deleted my MBR(error) reinstalled windows. can i return to my previous

Q: deleted my MBR(error) reinstalled windows. can i return to my previous

A few days ago i set up a virtual pc with my primary win7 and ubuntu as the other. After a few days i decided to remove ubuntu. Unknowingly i deleted my mbr which im sure you all know i couldnt run windows. I got my hands on my Win7 disk to reinstall thinking it would give me all of my information back but instead i basically got a whole new computer with all of my my old settings in a file called windows.old. Is there anyway i can restore my old settings i.e old user name and all of my documents? I want to bring cybertron (My old windows set up) to Earth (the brand new installed settings)<---for allmy transformers darkside of the moon fans lol. Thank you for any advice.

A: deleted my MBR(error) reinstalled windows. can i return to my previous

Yes, you can boot into another os (preferably winpe) and make another folder Move your new windows folders into that.

Then open windows.old and move all the folders out of there back onto the root of the drive.

Like the link below- note, you don't need to do steps 5 and 6 as you are going from win7 to win7.

How to restore a Windows 7-based computer to a previous Windows installation by using the Windows.old folder

I'm running 64-bit Vista Ultimate with 2 raids across 3 wd velociraptors in an Intel Matrix with a 4th standalone bootable drive. This 4th drive was recently re-introduced to my setup.

I had forgotten that this 4th bootable drive was built with my BIOS set to RAID, not IDE. So when I tried to boot off it with my BIOS set to IDE I got BSODed on bootup. Of course repairs did nothing, and still not realizing the problem, I re-installed a new instance of Vista, preserving the old instance in c:/windows.old.

Now I want this drive to again function as a standalone next to my RAID drives, but the new instance of VISTA built while set to IDE of course won't with the BIOS set to RAID.

Is it possible to get my original RAID instance of windows functioning again so that I don't have to put a 3rd instance on? I'm trying to avoid wiping out this drive.

A:Return to previous windows install

Perhaps a better way to explain:

If I install Vista on a standalone drive with the bios set to IDE it won't boot when the bios is set to RAID (ICH9R, Intel Storage Matrix). Likewise, if I install Vista on a standalone drive while the bios is set to RAID it won't boot while the bios is set to IDE. Changing the bios back to the appropriate setting allows the drive to boot fine in both cases.

I have such a standalone drive that had Vista originally installed with the bios set to RAID. Then it mistakenly had a 2nd instance installed with the bios set to IDE, which is the current instance of windows.

I want the drive to functional as a bootable standalone next to other drives that are in a RAID. How can I revert my drive back to the C:\windows.old instance so that I don't have to install a 3rd instance with the bios again set to RAID? Or is it possible to rebuild the current instance so that it can function through the onboard ICH9R raid controller?

my computer was ****ed. nothing worked, and everything broke whenever it was touched, so i decided to reformat. i reinstalled windows on the same partition as it was on before, and everything worked fine, but now i have two sets of users, a new one which is fine and an old one that i can't access and is taking up my whole hard drive. how do i delete all the old **** on my computer?

A:reinstalled windows, nothing deleted

From the sounds of it you may have installed over your last version of XP without formatting. You may want to Reinstall Windows XP and do a full format on the drive.

I have a workbook which I've designed to score submitted educational (veterinary) quizzes. Each worksheet holds a different quiz. When the quiz has been entered I want to copy person's name, details, score etc onto a new line on a "record" sheet. This works fine with the following code:

Sub DNut1()
' DNut1 Macro
Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0).Select
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks _
:=False, Transpose:=False
End Sub

What I want to do is to insert a bit of code which takes you back to the previous page so the quiz can be retaken with a different name. I know I could do this by inserting the worksheet name but this would mean having a different macro for each quiz (worksheet). Is there any way of going back to the previous page regardless of its name?
I'm not really very familiar with VB code - I usually just search for it on the internet but have been unable to find this

A:Return to previous Excel worksheet

Welcome to the board.

No need to select C2:H2 -- Range("C2:H2").Copy will do.

"I could do this by inserting the worksheet name but this would mean having a different macro for each quiz (worksheet)"

So assign the worksheet name to a variable before leaving it. Example:

PrevSheet = ActiveSheet.Name

But you may not need to leave "PrevSheet" in the first place. Try:

x = Sheets("Record").Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
Range("C2:H2").Copy Sheets("Record").Range("A" & x + 1)

instead. HTH

I recently installed a program and when using it I found that it happened to delete many of my photos from my documents. I don't know why either. They have been deleted and aren't in the recycle bin either. I have tried a system restore, but they were deleted out of my documents so that didn't work, then I also downloaded a program called Recover Files, that did bring a few back but the rest of them were brought back as either uncompatible items or for some reason pictures of maps.

Is there anyway that I can get my photos back?

A:Is there anyway to return my deleted photos?

only by trying different recovery programs like that you have tried.
The more you use your PC though, the less chance you have of recovery.
There are many programs geared up to do this, some better or more successful than others. Most have a trial version to give an indication of whether files are recoverable or not.
Some are devoted to file recovery of photo's from flash media.

My boss spent about 2 hours going through his inbox and deleting what he didn't need and keeping what he did to free up some space. He did this on Wednesday Aug 1, 2007. Yesterday, he brought in his laptop and sync'd it to the network because i was doing updates on his machine. When it sync'd his email, all of the messages he had previously deleted came back into the inbox. (on both machines)

Is there a way for me to get his inbox back to the way it was on Wednesday? I thought maybe I could do a backup of it now and then restore it to the back to Wednesday and then just inport the messages from the last two days back in. I don't know if that would work though. Any thoughts? He really doesn't want to have to go through them all again.

Thank you in advance for any help.

In my registry I've noticed porn related entries in:

HKEY CURRENT USER\software\microsoft\windows\current version\internet settings\zonemap\domains\

I'm on XP home SP2 and all updates are current. I run 2 anti virus programs, use SpyBot, Adaware, SpywareBlaster & CW Shredder. I've checked for virus's and run Housecall. Whenever I see anything suspicious I delete with a vengence and my security settings are properly set.

I've shutdown the System Restore, deleted everything suspect in the registry manually, run every antispyware, antivirus program I can think of (regularly too). I shut down and restart the PC and everything I've deleted returns.
I never find much of anything to report after running all tests, except mru's and an occasional tracker. My PC works fine, my connection is fast and I experience absolutely no problems I'm aware of.

Obviously there's something I'm missing or not doing as I don't visit suspect sites. A helping hand here would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Willo.

A:desktop background return to previous background after changed it.

Hello Nirzan and welcome to Seven Forums.

Make sure you're following the steps in Option Two of this article, particularly Step 7, "save changes".

Desktop Background - Change

If the problem still isn't fixed, your computer may have damaged or corrupt system files. Sometimes files get damaged because of malware so run a full scan using your preferred anti-virus suite. Since no anti-virus is 100% effective 100% of the time, it's always a good idea to run some additional on-demand scans. These are free and recommended. The more scans you run (one at a time!) the greater the probability your computer is not infected.

ESET Online Scanner

If your computer comes back clean I'd next run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot your computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Please post back if anything helped or not.

Using Windows Home Premium 7 and when emails come into my Inbox something very weird happens. If I'm having an ongoing conversation with one person unless I delete their message once read and replied to, their next email is blocked until I actually delete their original email. For example, Ebay wrote to tell me one of my items was expiring soon - I actually had 7 expiring at exactly the same time but I only had one email come in for the first item. Only when I deleted that did the next Ebay email pop up to tell me the second item was due etc. etc. Never used to happen, only within the last few days have I noticed this odd thing. Help?

Hello guys! I've been having this problem for a while now, and I'm hoping one of you knows a solution.

I recently did a clean install of Windows 10 (64 bit) on my laptop, and since then multiple games can't be run, giving the following error:
"The application has failed to start (0xc000007b)"
I've been searching for a solution online, and have tried everything I found. I reinstalled DirectX, .NET, graphic card drivers, the game itself (currently having issues with NBA 2K15), ran sfc /scannow, put files into System32 and SYSWOW64 manually, reinstalled my Visual C++ redistributables (both x86 and x64), and NOTHING works.
I only didn't do Windows reinstall. But, a month ago I upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10, keeping all the files and settings, and then all my games ran perfectly. It was also 64-bit. And now with clean install, they don't work.

So, if anyone knows of something I haven't tried, I would appreciate it very much. I really want to avoid doing another Windows reinstallation, or going back to Windows 7, because I really like Windows 10, it runs smooth and fast, and I say again, I had no problems with 10 back when I did an upgrade instead of clean install.

Thanks in advance!

Hello all. I am debugging a windows xp sp3 32bit machine and every time I shut the machine off windows logs a 0x00000050 error and does a core dump. I know my drive is aging and using smartmontools and it reports that the reallocated sector count is not 0 so i do have some bad sectors on the hard drive.

Researching what the error code means I came across a page on msdn that said the error code is PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. It came with 4 possibilities of what the issue could be. 1 Faulty hardware which other than the hard drive issue I do not have this issue Ive run memcheck86+ for over a day with no error, I have stress tested the cpu with mprime for a day, and i use smartmontools to check the hard drive. 2. Faulty system service. While that might be the issue I have not changed any service status in a rather long time and I am running a barebones install with almost every superfluous service disabled and only 15 services running. 3. Anti virus issue. I use an anti virus as I do not use this OS everyday but I periodically run clamav on the partition in linux. 4. Corrupt File System. It suggested I run Chkdsk /f /r and I did not find any errors with the filesystem so I am assuming it is not corrupt.

A:Could an aging drive cause windows to return a 0x00000050 error

Usual causes: Defective hardware (particularly memory - but not just RAM), Faulty system service, Antivirus, Device driver, NTFS corruption, BIOS

So yes, a driver may cause this issue.

Im Lost now.. I've read many threads similar to my problem, or exactly like my problem. Ive tried it all, and done at least 12 Different installs. heres the info:

Bought it brand new, was unaware of making the restoration disks until it was too late.
I had a virus, so I did "clean all" in diskpart, at the cmd prompt. So i can start fresh. I have a retail version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, which was the original OS. went through the installation process fine, until the reboot where its supposed to go through the second step of the installation. on reboot i get a "bcd\boot" error. Ive tried repairing the MBR, the Boot record, ive tried using align=1024, ive tried using paragon, and acronis to fix the boot record. Ive tried using boot managers. Ive tried installing windows vista, ive tried windows 7 ultimate 64 and 32 bit versions.. the only OS i can get to install is XP.. Im at a loss, ive tried EVERY single thing all the threads here suggested doing..

Is there a way to wipe all the TOSHIBA stuff from the bios, so the computer thinks its a generic comp? im guessing toshiba ID #s not matching the retail version of windows arent matching??

I dont know what im missing, ive done it all. minus calling toshiba to have them fix it. i dont want to take that step. Ive run diagnostics on all my hardware, nothing is damaged.

Here is what happened. My dad gave me his laptop 4 years ago, I have been using it as my main pc since then. He did not give me any windows disk or install disks, but I do have its windows product key, its on the bottom of the laptop. I tried to download the ISO from windows but it said that product key was not supported so I just used the 7 upgrade disk I have for my old PC that I now use as a DVR / server. HD formated, reinstall complete, now it wants a valid product key. So I put the one from the laptop in, it says its not a valid product key.

I have a valid product keys for both machines, why won't this work? More importantly, how can I get it to work? Please help, I need this machine.

A:Reinstalled windows 7 formatted HD, input product key, error

Double-check the product key. Many times an "8" is mistaken for "B" or vice versa. Same way with letter "O" and number "0".

However if the DVR/Server OS is still active, that product key has been used for that copy of Windows and can't be used again and that copy of Windows is tied to that product key only. The Product Key on the PC is for a "OEM" version. If you can find an OEM version, exact same version as was originally installed you should be able to use that and the Product Key from the laptop sticker.

I don't remember getting a warning message about the deletion or any pop ups. Wondering if any of you have seen this oddity?
My working theory is to blame MS ... haha - my guess being that a general update of Live Essentials/Live-Mail caused the non-permanetly-deleted messages to be 'unmarked' as deleted

At any rate the symptom is simple: suddenly "out of the blue on a fresh restart of Windows 7 PC, when executing Live Mail, around 800 previously-deleted messages all find their way back to the Inbox.

Hi! I had Windows 8.1 Pro x64 on an old hard drive (250GB). I installed a new hard drive (500GB) and did a clean install of Windows 10 on the new hard drive (using my Win8 CD key).

It worked fine for two weeks. I never booted into Win8 again, but every time I booted, it gave me the option of Windows 10 vs Windows 8. Always picked Windows 10.

Then, last night, I wanted to use that old hard drive with Win8 for storage. I formatted it via Windows and secure erased it (via gparted on a live USB--this did require disabling secure boot, but I re-enabled it after secure erasing). After rebooting, Windows 10 won't boot: "no bootable devices detected".

The hard drive with Win10 is still recognized in the BIOS, no problem. But, even in the BIOS, it's not seen as a UEFI bootable device.

What I've tried so far:

1. Startup Repair (using the Win10 USB live installer tool thing) -- "Startup repair couldn't repair your PC." Log file is blank, sadly.
2. bootsect /nt60 C: /mbr -> it works successfully, saying "successfully updated NTFS filesystem bootcode" and "bootcode was successfully updated on all targeted volumes", but I still can't boot.
3. bootrec /fixmbr -> completes successfully, still can't boot.
4. bootrec /rebuild bcd -> finds the Win10 install, I select it, and then it says, "the requested system device cannot be found."

I ran diskpart and here's what I'm looking at:

Hi folks,

Ok, so either when I first built my computer, or when I first installed my new video card--don't remember which at the moment, since the two events were not all that far apart--I started experiencing the dreaded "infinite loop error." I did some research on the web and found a number of suggestions on how to fix it, so I tried a couple of those things, and it seemed to work. I was fine for months, with maybe the occasional lockup once a month at worst.

But now it has returned...I think. I say I think, because when I had it the first time, whenever it would happen, I would get the BSOD with the "infinite loop error" message, and the computer would reboot. One of the things I read about when trying to fix it the first time was how to turn off the automatic-reboot-error-message thing, which...for some reason I can't recall, was suggested as a good thing. So I did that, and now I can't remember--or find again--how I turned it off in order to turn it back on and check to be certain it *is* the infinite loop error. All I know is that the computer has started locking up again the way it did with that...a full screen freeze where I can't use keyboard or mouse, can't ctrl-alt-del anything, can't really do anything at all except hit the reset button. Since that is what was happening before with the ILE, I am assuming that is what it is again.

at long last, i'm hoping i've finally fixed my problem with this. i'm running xp with 1g ram and a radeon ati 9800pro video card that has always gone into the infinite loop error at least once each time i play a game. 2 things i did last week, and i haven't locked up since. 1) went into BIOS and saw that my agp arpeture was set to 64, so i changed that to 128. 2) in BIOS i upped the video card voltage from 1.5v to 1.6v... i've read several people saying that this is the true voltage of the card. one of those things (or possibly both) fixed my problem, so far at least. keeping my fingers crossed!

I am doing some experiment on using web-based platform to call functions provided by OCX file (FaceServerSdk.ocx) (I am using PHP COM object)
I have registered the OCX file using regsrv32

I have created a simple php file to create COM object and tried to use its functions, however, from "netstat", it only run for few second then terminated. (No error showing on php web page)

Hello all, I have a friends computer that i would really like to help her fix. Heres the problem, It started when they were online and the computer crashed. What site she was on is undetermenad howver what i do know is that the computer will not load xp. It is a Dell Demension 3000 computer and after turning on it loads the splash screen then go's to a black screen with an error message saying "Sorry for the inconvenience Microsoft can not load at this time" blah blah blah right. Well it wont run in safe mode or anything. If i just let it run the count down till start, it trys to load Xp but then loops back to the splah screen and will go on and on if i let it. Sometimes the Blue screen of death comes up but vanishs just as fast as it appears. Used F2 to see if boot up order was incorrect but everything there is up to snuff. Resset to defaults did not work. Tried using my Dell tools CD to run diagnostits test (as i also own a Dell) but just says this pc does not support dell???? Finally pressed F12 got into the IDE boot drive diagnostics and it says:

Primary IDE
Drive 0: Maxtor 6Y080L0 - Fail. Return Code: 7
Drive 1: No IDE device
Secondary IDE
Drive 0: HL-DT-ST GCE-8487B-Diagnostics not supported

I recently, & needlessly, as it turns out (but excellent experience) replaced the mobo in this system.

Wut led me to what turned out to b needless......was, in the 5 months since getting this system, I had around 5 instances of sudden blue stopscreen, always the same, referring to some Pooler error, telling me I might wanna boot into Safe Mode and asking if I recently installed new software or hardware.

I originally Googled this and came to feel it owed to some ram issue. I then tried to run memtest. That hung. I then started testing my then two sticks....failed to seat them properly and came to my mobo was fried. Which again, it was not.

Pls ignore the fried (not) part, it is not relevant here except for history of the blue screen.

Now, only an hour earlier, while trying to post on this site, I had two episodes of this disgusting, maybe within 10 mins of each other. This was first time since replacing my mobo needlessly.

Both times earlier, I powered off and booted anew. NOTE: I can not find any association between these sudden events and ANYTHING. That is part of wut upsets me.

I do not like this at all. Not once in either of my two other systems running XP have I had one blue screen.

I just went to MS site and started playing some two hour tutorial from some MS guy about blue screens in NT. I could not stand it, OK? 7 mins was all I could take.

Can anyone supply any info on this upsetting thingy? Sorry I did ot make note of the code data on these screens. I k... Read more

I had some kind of virus on my pc yesterday that wouldn't allow a system restore or to run windows so I tried to clean reinstall windows 7 using the Dell reinstallation DVD.

However, I think by mistake I reinstalled to the recovery drive/partition which now only has 762 MB free of 14.6 GB. Strangley, after the reinstall the recovery drive was (C) and the OS was (D).

I tried to correct the issue by clean reinstalling again, this time choosing to reinstall to the OS. Now, the OS is (C) and the recovery is (D) but the recovery still has a red 'bar' beneath it stating only 762 MB is free of 14.6 GB (the OS has 259 GB free of 283 GB).

When I turn on the computer it now goes to windows boot manager with two Windows 7 options (I think this is because I've reinstalled it twice, once to the recovery partition and once to the OS? Is this right?) and asks me to choose. It then takes ages to load the windows configurations before bringing me to the screen to enter my password. One other issue is the built-in speakers now don't work, but headphones do, the error message states 'the peripheral does not appear to be plugged in. Check the connection. Proceed to next step to finish', then 'The speaker, headset or headphone is unplugged' - there's nothing to plug though, they're internal!

It would be great if anyone knew how to fix this (especially the issue with Windows 7 being reinstalled to the recovery drive, I can live without the built-in speakers if need be).

Confirm you have overwritten your Recovery partition by attempting to run Dell Recovery: Dell Restoring Your Computer?s Software to the Factory Settings

If so, you no longer have any need for it or for any OEM/tools partitions since you have chosen to clean reinstall with the DVD which applies only a pristine copy of the OS without any of the preinstalled factory bloatware in the Recovery image.

Now start over with the Reinstallation DVD (a valuable asset no longer included by makers) and follow these steps to get a perfect reinstall: Reinstalling Windows 7

I have an table that I am updating from a temporary table in vb. But some of the records are duplicates and I update certain fields and some are new records that I must append/add to the the table.
How would I code for this?
At present I read the temp table in a loop and use the key to read the permanent table.
Set dblead = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset(sql2 & dbxcel!Gift)
where sql2 is
sql2 = "SELECT gift, hometel, worktel, cell, race " & _
"From Lead " & _
" Where = "
This comes up with an error :3021 runtime error - no current record
which is correct as the record needs to be appended instead of edited.
How do I cater/code around this?
when I had it just appending to the database - I got the error about duplicate keys which was also correct; but of course also stopped the processing.

My Firefox just crashed, and while I have the restore sessions options selected, it only saved/restored one of several windows. Is there anyway to load the session prior to the last one? (The SessionSaver extension used to have this option, presumably for this very reason.)

After much fruitless searching for an answer , I started messing around in my Firefox profile. In the end, with Firefox still open, I made a backup of my original profile, then closed Firefox, and in the new default profile I deleted the file "sessionstore.js" then renamed "sessionstore.bak" >>> "sessionstore.js" and restarted. A:Solved: Error Else statement with no previous If

I'm not sure what language you're using, but are you sure the syntax of your if statements is correct? Maybe different in the language you are using, but usually there is no semicolon between if and the opening bracket. Try this:

if (charge > 0) {//1
charge = charge -3;
if (charge < -4) { //2
weight+= 3*1.0079;
else {//3
charge = charge -1;
if (charge < -4) {//4
weight+= 3*1.0079;

I removed a total of 3 semicolons from your code (corresponding to your 3 if statements).

I recently received some CAM software to evaluate for work. There is one program disk and two documentation disks. I ran the install of the application and it went fine. When it asked to install the documentation, I let it start, but then stopped it before it completed (bed time). When I tried to load the documentation the next day, setup would start but then I get an error that says I must uninstall the previous version first. It gives the name of the current version as the title to uninstall in the 'add & remove programs' panel. When I go to the 'add & remove programs' panel the documentation program the message refers to is not there, only the base application.
I have tried removing and reinstalling the base application and it makes no difference. I know this is kind of a vague description of a problem, but if anybody has any ideas how to get around this so I can load the help documentaion it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

For some reason, when I try to open the Firefox browser I cannot access it due to the error code as seen in screenshot. The only reason I can think of is that whilst downloading AVG free for Vista, there was an error in installation. I have uninstalled whatever bits of AVG that I could find. I have also uninstalled any new downloads but that does not seem to be the issue. Re-booting does not fix it. The OS is running pretty slowly.Re-booting takes ages. I don't know if this is of any relevance, but in Task Manager, I have noticed that there are 88 processes running, CPU Usage is low 4% - 7% , and the Physical Memory is at 48% Is this memory high or average. Is any of this relevant.???Is there a program that I could run to look at the diagnostics or whatever that might shed some light??Could really do with some help. Thanks all

I've seen issues about this throughout Google and on these forums, but I would much rather have someone help me step to step to figure out what the problem is with these random freezes(causing my computer to shutdown-freeze).
The freezes/random shutdowns only usually occur when I am away from my computer and it enters screensaver/sleep mode etc. My power light stays on, but computer is frozen (causing me to hard reboot it holding the power switch). I also notice when my computer is frozen, my hardware light (orange) is completely off.
Sometimes my hardware light isn't a steady orange, sometimes it will come on and sometimes it will be off.
I believe it's a dust build up issue in my fan/heat sink as I noticed here:
This is the error that caused it, but unsure how to fix it as it doesn't have a specific reason for what happened.

Here's the problem. It's a long one.

I'm currently in Germany, if that means anything. Earlier today, my internet was acting funny. I could use the internet fine on my iPhone, but my computer not. It would say I was connected, but when I opened up Firefox, nothing would load. It wouldn't even give me an error screen, the screen would just stay plain white, no matter what website I typed in. I tried restarting my computer, power cycling the router/modem, all that fun stuff. Nothing worked. I figured it was an ISP problem, so I took a nap. (four hours later) I wake up, and the problem is STILL there, so I open up PC Tools Registry Mechanic and run a general privacy clean. It starts off running smoothly, but then it hits the Firefox files. It takes an hour to delete 4,000 files from the firefox cache. The first thing that popped in my head was "VIRUS," so I ran a virus scan with PC Tools Spyware Doctor (which is an antivirus). Nothing came up. Here's another strange thing. The files that were being deleted from my firefox cache were in a folder called "nnv2dgxf.default." I googled this file name, literally nothing came up. I did a system search and found these folders and manually deleted them both. Magically, my internet starts working again. Everything is fine and dandy for about an hour, then the REAL problem happens. Firefox will not open. Every time I try to open it, an error pops up telling me that a previous instance of the pr... Hi all,

Whenever I try to install a new version of a program over its previous version I get an error message mid installation saying:

"An error occurred while trying to rename a file in the destination directory:

Move file failed; code 183

Cannot create a file when that file already exists."

When I get it it asks me to either retry, abort or ignore in the installation. The only way I can install the program is by uninstalling the current program, delete the files it left behind in my program file, and then run the installer of the new version of the program. I have a feeling its a registry problem but I'm not sure since I do clean my registry quite a bit with Advanced System Care Pro 3.

Any ideas how to fix this issue? Any help is greatly appreciated.

We recently try to deploy a GPO on our network to show previous logons during user logon. The setting is located in Computer Configuration| Policies | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Windows Logon Options | Display information about previous logons during user logon = Enabled. Our domain level is set to Windows Server 2008. I verified that it is Windows Server 2008 on Domain and Trust.

Here is the article about this setting

Active Directory Domain Services: Last Interactive Logon

But after we deploy the setting, we are no longer able to login to any of our windows 7 machines. All of them got an error message said : ?Security policies on this computer are set to display information about the last interactive logon. Windows could not retrieve this information. Please contact your network administrator for assistance.?

The setting worked on windows server 2008. I was able to login to DC and revise the setting, so we can log back in the windows 7 machines.

Anyone has experience this issue before? I looked up all of the web and only thing they said is to make sure the domain functional level must be set to Windows Server 2008, which it is.

I've had a good share of problems with my computer since I bought it; most have been related to the PC freezing and automatically restarting or to blue screen errors. Some of these problems could be related, but I don't think any of them are due to spyware, malware, virus etc. I've already run fulls scans on Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, SUPERAntiSpyware and Avast without any issues.

I am close to causing myself harm in frustration. I have just taken delivery of a Samsung laptop (running Vista not XP) which had a trial version of Office 2007 preinstalled. I don't like Office 2007 so I purchased (seperately) a copy of Office professional 2003. I have installed it and all programs are working, except for Outlook. On start up, I get this message:

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or wrong version. This could have been caused by installing other messaging software. Please reinstall Outlook.
I know this issue came up on another question on this forum -
and the proposed solution was successful for him. In fact, looking around the internet it seems as though renaming the rogue dll (mapi32 or MSmapi32) seems to be the accepted solution for everyone. But, for me, it just doesn't work. One thing I haven't done is uninstall the trial version of Office 2007, mainly because I have tried and the remove program function in Control Panel doesn't work when it comes to office 2007 - obviously a conspiracy to keep it installed. Maybe it wouldn't make any difference anyway but I thought I'd mention it.
Any ideas anyone? Failing a fix I'll have to just use Windows mail/contacts/calendar instead of Outlook but having paid for it I'd rather try and use it!
Thanks very much in hopeful anticipation.....

Hello Windows 10 experts,
Windows 10 has been a frustrating problem and huge annoyance for me! I won't go into all of the crashes and problems. There is nothing in this operating system that I find of value!

I would rather return to Windows 7. How can I do that without losing my stored files?

Thanks for your assistance

A:How do I return to Windows 7

Hello Scoots,

If you upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7, haven't deleted the Windows.old folder, and it hasn't been longer than 31 days since you upgraded to Windows 10, then you can use the method in the tutorial below to go back to Windows 7 without losing files in your user folders.

Windows 10 - Go Back to Previous Windows

If the above is not an option, then I'm afraid that you may need to clean install Windows 7 unless you have a system image of Windows 7 that you can restore.

I have Windows 8.1 on two laptops.

My older Toshiba laptop is having the Windows 8 "know issue" with 100% disk usage. I upgraded it to Windows 8 from Vista a year or two ago. I've tried all the supposed solutions, don't have a virus and have lost patience with trying to fix the problem.

This older laptop is connected to my ScanSnap scanner. I use it primarily for scanning my personal files etc. to Google Drive.

I can't wait for Windows 9 to MAYBE fix this disk usage issue and am looking at loading Linux on it instead to do the scanning.

What do I need to do to insure I do NOT loose the ability to upgrade to Windows 9 on this old laptop if I load Linux on it?

Hi guys.
After win8 -> win10 update I noticed that alt tab previews sometimes have different size, especially when there are few opened apps they become extremely huge which makes it hard to orientate between them quickly and I spent some time to glance the app I need. Alt tab on win 8 was perfect for me, previews were of fixed size, icons were bigger it was easy to choose the app I need.
Now in windows 10 I see those preview depend not only on number of opened apps, but of screen resolution too. For example, when I use monitor with laptop 1680x1050 or 1920x1080 the preview are really huge but when I use laptop screen which is 1366x768 the previews are quite ok. Previously i used AltTabTuner app but now it doesn't make any affect on alt tab preview.

So my question is: can I configure windows to use previews of fixed size when I press alt-tab?

I'm posting a few screenshots so you may better understand what I'm talking about

the third screen is closest to what I'd be glad to achieve.

A:windows 10 / return alt tab previews of fixed size (windows 8 style)

Hi @quadroval, welcome to!

I think it's the 'nature of the beast'! There's probably a way to accomplish what you want but I wouldn't know where to start.

For a different twist, you could use the old XP style switcher by pressing and holding right Alt, press and release left Alt then Tab to switch; they're a fixed size!

Ok So i got this icon on my tool bar, and it gives me a balloon telling me that my windows automatic updater is off, and to click on it to fix the problem. Now it takes me to the Windows Security system and I press the "Turn on Auto. Updates", it sits for a bit and does nothing. I have restarted my computer several times (for non related reasons) and I still have the same 'problem'Now, if i go into the The system app in Control Panel it says its on. Now. Not sure if they discontinued updates for windows all ready or if its a virus (which im guessing it is)If some has had the same problem let me know.Or even better if you've had the same problem and FIXED or know what is causing it, POST . I have avast, just in case.

A:Windows Update off, and never to return on?

First try Dial-A-Fix: When you open it check the boxes that say Fix Windows Update. Once those options are selected then hit go and let dial a fix run. After that is done reboot the computer. Now see if you can turn on automatic updates. If that doesn't work, there'ss a good chance that you have an infection.I would then post here: Am I Infected? you problem and what you have tried so farGood luck

I have installed Windows 10 on my HP Stream 7 a few times now (and reverted to 8.1 a few times too!) but when HP recently released some Windows 10-specific drivers for the Stream 7, I decided to give it another go.

However, I am not happy with how Windows 10 shows blurry text in so many applications/dialogs/MMCs etc, and also how TINY the text is in some ModernUI apps - I have tried everything to fix these issues and have the same font settings as on Windows 8.1 (125%) but nothing changes. So I want to go back to 8.1 and today I clicked on the button to do so. But was told this:

Basically telling me that the files needed for Windows 8.1 restore have been deleted - except I haven't deleted them. There is still a Windows.old folder on the C:\ drive and I deliberately didn't remove the files in the eventuality of restoring 8.1.

So what are my options? Is there anything I can do to fix this restore option so it will revert to 8.1? My Stream 7 came with no recovery drive, and although there is a recovery partition, when I try and use it, it doesn't work (I think installing 10 made it redundant)

Any information on any of the above would be very much appreciated.

A:I want to return to 8.1 - but Windows 10 won't let me - HP Stream 7

Sorry, but you're most likely going to have to do a factory restore from HP Recovery Media. That's a set of DVDs and CD that can be used to restore your PC to its original factory settings. The linked thread from the HP Support Forums has more details:

Hello, a few months ago a friend said he could get me Windows 7 for free, and I believe it was just a torrent download with a verification crack... I need to know if there is any way of getting back to my old windows Vista which my system orriginally came from. I have the Dell Windows Vista installation disc, but do not know if there is any way of re-installing to get back to Vista, without having to reinstall all drivers and lose all my other info!! Please help in letting me know the best route to take, there are no systelm rollback dates that go before my friend istalled this.

I tried inserting the Dell disc then turning on my computer, but the Windows 7 didn't go into the "reformat/blackscreen mode" it just continued to boot up into Windows 7.

*edit*: I do not currently have my drivers and applications installation discs, so I dont know if there is another obtainable one (if I need to reformat entirely to Vista again) from dells site or what??

Thank you!!!

A:Return to Windows Vista? (Please Help)

If you have the Dell disk that says "Operating System" and "Windows Vista" on it - then you can get back to Vista easily.

Make sure you download the drivers from the Dell website before starting this.

Make sure you backup your stuff - as this will wipe everything off your hard drive.

Here's a link about how to reinstall Vista (from Dell):

Here's how to do it:
- put the Vista disk in the CD/DVD drive
- turn the system off, then restart it
- when you see the Dell logo on the screen, rapidly tap the F12 key
- select the CD/DVD drive when prompted - and press Enter
- follow the onscreen prompts to install Vista
- once that's done, install the drivers that you've downloaded (in this order: )

And that's all there is to it. Post back with any questions.

I've had both joys and frustrations using Windows 8. Many things feel like a throwback to ages gone by.

Microsoft boasts that Windows 8 has faster boot times. But this isn't the case if you use a multiple boot OS. Instead of the quick prompt style boot menu, you are presented with a graphical interface which takes considerable time to load, then you have to wait for the OS you choose to boot. The simple prompt may have been ugly old and DOS like but it was lighting fast compared to the new boot menu screen. Now you have to mouse over to the choice and choose the OS you want.

The new Metro start screen reminds me a lot of the days before Windows where we used a program called QEMM. For those who don't know, QEMM was a DOS based memory manager that allowed you to run multiple DOS applications on the same system. Once you loaded your DOS apps, you could tab between them but never see both at the same time. Much like Metro does now though much more limited.

Windows 8 is more square than a teenage Bill Gates. Yes this is faster but it feels like I am back to running the old Windows NT 4.0 interface. The rounded edges and 3D effects have been stripped from the OS giving Windows 8 a very 2 dimensional feel. Many of the fancy designs introduced in Vista have been tossed in the trash. Even tabs are so razor sharp you could shave with them. Perhaps this is an attempt to move away from the Candy Apple coated computing that the Macintosh systems introduced but ... Read more

A:Windows 8 - a return to the stone age?

You've noted pretty much what I've said about the Modern interface. Windows 8 appears fundamentally good, if only one didn't need third party programs to bring back the proper desktop (for those that want it).

That's right. One of the Mac faithful is considering a switch to Windows 8 when it comes out. Right now, I'm typing this up on my Macbook Air running OS Lion with an iPhone 4 in my pocket, but after looking at the new changes in Windows 8 I am considering switching back to Windows entirely next year as I find the Mac OS environment SUFFOCATING.

I was wondering about two critical features that the Mac have that I'm not sure that Windows 8 will have as well.

Will there be gestures/multiple full screen apps on Windows 8?

That's about the only two things that are convincing me to hold on to the Mac for now, but they are AMAZINGLY convenient for me. Not such a fan of Launchpad or Mission Control (rather buggy) but those things are critical to me.

Two-fingers back-and forward. Three-fingers to switch between full screens. And there is even compatibility for a whole host of customized gestures that I use extensively. For example, I've grown so dependent on the trackpad that I now use copy/paste/back/forward/bookmark/esc/tab switching/tab closing on it, to name the most important ones. I even have gestures to open applications for me, like Safari/Word for Mac/Mail/Notes/Documents/Downloads and gestures to duplicate the window snapping that I liked in Windows 7. And I honestly couldn't live without it now, even if I find the Mac environment severely limited in scope in terms of compatibility with many games/applications.

Also the full-screen applications would be... Read more

A:Mac User Considering Return to Windows

There are gestures I know that much, but how many and if they are configurable? I do not know. What we have now the Developer Preview is unfinished, feature complete API but not feature complete UI and the like. Some of the videos do show off swipping to switch between full screen applications.

Hi, I have an ACER aspire 5332 (Well its the wife's hence the problem, lol) She had a friend who offered to put windows 7 on this laptop for free so she did. After a few weeks or so the screen went black and notified us that the copy of windows was not genuine. Ive since found out that her friend has the same laptop and she paid for windows 7 on hers so she then used the same disc for my wives, which is why im guessing it says this one is not genuine. Do I?? 1. leave this copy on as windows 7 is great even without the updates which i now wont get or 2. Go back to the Vista that was previously installed, if so how?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and any help would be much appreciated.

First, this may be my first post on this website. I'm not entirely sure this is the correct forum to post this, so please let me know if it isn't.

Weird thing happened yesterday when I got on to my computer. I had left my computer on the night before (Thursday) with MS Office 2003 open (something I never usually do -- Thursday was a bad day for me)!

When I checked the computer it looked like Windows XP had reinstalled itself or something!

I should also mention that I have only one user account (an administrative account) on the computer, and I don't use the built-in System Administrator account, although it is available in Safe Mode.

The items listed below are all DIFFERENT than what I normally see on my computer.

1. My Desktop was totally rearranged; all the icons were placed on the left side of the screened and arranged in alphabetical order. All of the desktop icons I normally use were there, they were just rearranged.
2. A pop-up window appeared that said something like Setting Preferences and proceeded to set preferences for such things as Outlook Express (which I never use), etc.
3. Control Panel was no longer in Classic View.
4. The Taskbar was rearranged and the Quick Launch bar had disappeared.
5. The Start panel showed only IE, Outlook, MSN, Windows Media Player, Windows Messenger, Tour Windows XP, Files and Transfer Wizard. This is usually what the Start panel looks like with a new Windows XP installation but is nothing like what my Start panel... Read more

And it won't open any of my driver zip files, it errors out with a corrupted file error. I can't install any other unzip program because it errors out of that saying pretty much the same thing, I can't get online to activate windows or even update it because I can't install any drivers.

I'm running a Zotac 9300 motherboard with what has thus far been an otherwise useless driver. I did get the video drivers installed for it, apparently that setup wasn't corrupt. The only way I did that was just copying the drivers folder (Winxp32) completly onto my really big paperweight of a computer, but the setup only gives me a dos box for a half second and won't run...aside from the video driver that has its own independent install.

I'm not going to do anything more with this computer tonight as I'm about a half second away from tossing it over the balcony and watching the beautiful sparkles as it shatters on the ground, but any help for me for tomorrow would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and if needed the XP install disc is SP3. I'm pretty much doing everything from an external hard drive because I don't have the original drivers disc that came with the motherboard.

A:Reinstalled Windows

Since you just reinstalled Windows and it is not working correctly. I would boot off of the XP CD and wipe the drive and install Windows fresh again. If you refuse to do that, then go to Start/Run and type SFC /scannow put the XP CD in and it will copy any missing files that it needs.

First of all - welcome to BC !  Second - relax, you have come to the right place for help !
First of all, can you download and run 'Speccy' and 'MiniToolBox', both of which are free downloads from BC. This is the link to 'Speccy' -
and these two images show you how to get the URL which is all you need to paste, the URL is anonymised -
This is the link for MiniToolBox -
Select the boxes shown in the image below when you run MTB, It will then produce a report in text format. Open the file and copy / paste all the test into your next post -
What makes you think you need to re-install your operating system?  If your hard drive is getting full then the answer is to, first, clean out any temporary files, and then to move any data - work, photos, music, videos - that you don't immediately need to an external drive of some sort. Once you have moved them to the external storage you can safely delete them off your C:\ drive. One other small point - if your 'Recycle bin' is full, try emptying it. files are not actually deleted off the hard drive until you do this.
But post back with the information above.

My question is pretty much "Now what?"

The Internet is not working and I'm not sure how to go about that. I tried going to Asus website (my motherboard) I grabbed their driver detective program and ran the program on my desktop (the computer in discussion). But in order for the program to work, it needed to install another program (which it needed Internet to do) -- this is feeling overly complicated and confusing.

So.. now what?

How do I get internet working?
How do I go about getting sound on the computer?

I have a question about windows 8. I recently had to do a factory restore on a new Gateway desktop computer due to viruses. I had installed a extra hard drive just for data. When I did the re-install, windows asked me if I only wanted to format the hard drive with windows installed on it, instead it formatted both drives. I was wondering what type of format does windows 8 do? I lost a lot of important irreplaceable data, and why would it format both drives?, when I told it not too. I was thinking I should have unplugged the drive but I didn't.  I am very disappointed. I have tried two different data recovery programs which I have spend nearly $200.00 on and all they  do is show a bunch of windows folders that do not have anything in them resembling my data, and how can this be? This drive never had windows installed on it and I purchased it brand new.

A:Reinstalled windows 8

What have you tried to recover the data?
If you haven't written anything on the hdd you might be able to recover the data using Recuva.
Something you may want to consider in the future.  If you have a infection and have two hdds, one for the operating system and one for data, either one of the hdds or both could be infected.  You should post a topic in the the  Am I Infected? What Do I Do?forum.
