Windows keeps freezing constantly after getting new harddrive

Q: Windows keeps freezing constantly after getting new harddrive

Hi all, hoping I can get some help with a problem I've had for some time now. My harddrive crashed about a year ago on my Lenovo. I was able to pull all my files with the Lenovo recovery and they sent me a new harddrive since it was still under warranty. I installed the harddrive and re-installed Windows. I've never installed any hardware before, so don't know if I messed anything up, but it seemed pretty straight forward.

Since then, my Windows will freeze randomly almost every single time I use the laptop. I mostly use it for general personal stuff - web browsing, Excel, photos, etc. It tends to happen more when using a web browser, but still happens when doing anything and everything else. I'll get anywhere from a few minutes to an hour of use before it freezes, with it averaging at about 15-20 minutes.

(Edited) I've tried to make sure my Windows updates are current, but there is one update that keeps failing to install - "WindowsUpdate_800B0100". Also, I believe I tried to make sure all my drivers were updated last time I tried to fix this, but haven't done so since. If that's something I should do, I'd appreciate help on the proper way to do that.

One other thing, I started getting this message at Windows startup:Run DLL
There was a problem starting
C:\Users\FLYINF~1\AppData\Local\Temp\pnetoc.dll

This specific module could not be found
Not sure if this is related or not, but I think this started popping up after I was first having the freezing issues, so it was freezing even before the Run DLL error.

I also ran the SFC scan according to the directions on here, and it did not find any issues.

I haven't filled in all my specs, but let me know if I should do that or if it doesn't matter. Thanks for any help!

For a good few months I've had Windows 7 Ultimate installed on my laptop, and for those few months I've had absolutely no problems whatsoever. However, recently my laptop has begun to freeze a number of times while in use. The freezes seem to happen when certain applications are in use, (Browsing in any internet browser, using instant messengers, ETC) I even think it's starting to suspect it's helping to produce I/O device errors as I've gotten a couple of those today, Once while extracting something from a rar and again while burning a DVD.

This has never happened before, and my computer hasn't undergone any significant changes to cause it either, so I'm pretty stumped. So, I'm here asking for help, on my first post no less.

I have an E-machines EL1358-53 desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit OS.

The system seems to freeze up (no blue screen, just not responding), mostly when Windows boots up, or working on files through the network. I have tried to restore to previous date, and also wiped out hard drive and re installed windows. I do not really know what to do at this point, nor do i want to spend the money out of my budget to buy a new desktop.

I know this info will not be enough for anyone to give me an appropriate response, so what else do I need to post on here to help anyone out with my problem?

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

I have had mu computer since November last year. Its a top of the range machine.

Windows 7 keeps freezing on me, and I have to force shutdown by pressing & holding the off button, as ctrl+alt+delete doesn't work (and nothing else does, either!).

There is nothing noteworthy in the application logs. There is no correlation between what I am doing on the machine and when the freezing occurs - it's totally random.

My boyfriend bought a computer at the same time as me (different brand) - and he is having the same exact problem. He is a computer tech guy, so he rebuilt his machine from scratch, but it is still happening regularly.

My machine cost a lot of money, and I'm scared it is going to get damaged because this keeps happening.

Please help!
Thanks

A:Windows 7 Freezing constantly...

You will need to provide more information about the specifications of the computer. Has it been freezing since you got it? If not, do you remember the last software or hardware change that was done? The problem could be simple, but in order to solve it, we'll need more information. Please update your system specifications (make, model, hard drive size, RAM amount etc) so that help may be had. Don't worry about the 'freezing' breaking something.
Something is already broken or at least not set up correctly. There are tons of people here who have answers to any question.

I'm not sure if the OS is the problem, as my parents computer runs windows 7 (same version I have) and never experianced the problem that I know of.

I've had my computer for about 2 weeks, (friend helped me build it). In that time it's frozen about 5 times, twice in one day, and 3 in the past 2 days. It's an ENTIRE computer freeze, nothing responds beyond the restart button/power button. Once it restarts it's fine, until it happens again.

Music/sound has been playing each time, short of one time, and when it freezes it loops the current noise with an area of about 0.5 ish seconds of the track, sometimes a little more by the sound of it. If I turn off the speakers/turn it out/up it reacts, so I know it's just because it froze that the sound is looping constantly usually creating a loud buzzer noise.

I've been having some graphics problems as well, but I ran a downgraded version update and it's still happening. (Not that it's related, just something I tried for another reason and the freezing continued). It doesn't look like it's triggered by anything specific since i've been doing different things each time it happened.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Things will be fine for a few seconds or minutes, but then Windows freezes. It'll freeze for a few seconds, sometimes ten to fifteen, and then it'll go back to normal. It doesn't matter what I am doing; the problem happens regardless. I can't save anything to disk to back up for a re-install of Windows or anything because the freezing screws up the saving. In addition, I cannot reboot or shut down the computer manually; the process hangs at the "Windows is shutting down" phase, and doesn't move along, no matter how long I wait. What can be causing this and, more importantly, what can fix this?

All help greatly appreciated.

A:Windows 7 constantly freezing/crashing

Do some basic trouble shooting. This could be happening because of bad RAM or an underpowered Power Supply Unit. Download the ISO image for Memtest in my signature and burn the disc to CD using IMGBurn also in my signature. Remove all but one stick of RAM and boot off of the newly created CD and run the tests on each stick of RAM separately. If you get any errors, that stick is bad and needs to be replaced.
Thank you for providing most of your specs. Can you take a look at the PSU sticker and post the Make, Model #, and Wattage?

My Desktop PC has been freezing constantly for the past few days. I have performed System restore back to 12/26/10 and the PC seems to work fine until after I download and install all of the latest windows updates, then it begins to freeze constantly and I have to keep shutting it down and turning it on.

I find this rather odd because my Laptop runs Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit and i'm not having any problems at all. Obviously this could be a driver specific problem, I just need to try to narrow down which updates are different between the 2 PCs.

Is anyone else having any issues with any Windows Updates that were released this week?

A:Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit Freezing Constantly, Possibly Due to Win Update

Welcome
Go back with sytem restore to before the updates. Install one or two at a time, test. Be sure there is not problem. When you find the problem download, dont install unless its an important update.
You should always install one or ltwo. Many had problems with installaing many and automatically install.

Hi all,

I think I followed everything correctly to get you the requested logs and am in great hopes you can help me.

A little background, as requested. First off, my computer could be considered a "dinosaur" in computer terminology, but I rarely do anything other than check email, browse the web and do the occasional work from home.

It has been running fine for years. Never really noticed any lags or extreme slowness, I'm assuming it's due to my not doing a lot of "space consuming" things.

The only thing I want to mention is that anything "Tor" related such as the "Tor Browser" or Bitcoins, they are to do with an anonymous browser that I have on my computer and have had installed for weeks with no issues at all. I need them when doing work at home to ensure anonymity.

I also constantly run and keep updated Microsoft Security Essentials, just FYI

Hello! This problem of mine has to do with Windows Live Messenger [msn]

Since I've installed windows 7 and tried msn ive had this problem. Starting from login, the program is totally unresponsive for about 2 minutes and than all of a sudden it unfreezes and everything pops up and works. But, in intervals of around 10 seconds the program always freezes for about 5 seconds than unfreezes. So if im typing a message to someone the words will stop appearing as I type until 5 seconds or so pass, than what ever I typed during the freeze will instantly show. These freezes happen in chat windows, main window, and even as I browse for pictures/files to send. Opening the emoticons window causes msn to freeze totally for about 1 minute.

Is there a fix for this? I read somewhere that it may have to do with windows firewall and securities? I have the firewall off, but through experience it seems that windows firewall filters certain things regardless unless you find the specific exception...

A:Windows Live Messenger constantly freezing

Apparently this is a common issue.

It can be caused by:
Firewall(s) blocking access to port 1900
Overclocking

Hey guys!

So, I've just re installed 7 Ultimate x64 on my desktop because my prior installation had been giving me grief.

My issue is that it is now intermittently freezing.

I assume the issue is related to drivers because I've tested my memory via memtest, and I ran DFT on my (brand new) HD.

My specs are as follows,

ASUS P5n-D
BFG GTX260 Core216
Intel Core2Quad q8400
8GB OCZ DDR2 PC6400 800Mhz
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM
TX850 Modular PSU

I've downloaded the latest drivers for my motherboard and video card from the respective manufacturers websites. (ASUS, Nvidia)

ASUS website only lists the chip set and audio driver for my board.

Any ideas? The issue is extremely intermittent. I can go 35 minutes without freezing sometimes, and sometimes its immediately after booting up.

Have had a home built PC now for a bout a year, i have my OS running from dual SSDs in a RAID configuration (for fast access of databases), recently i noticed my machine began crashing a few times more than i had been used to, but recently it has really started to increase in frequency. When i turn the power off to my machine and reboot, what often happens is the system freezes again just before i reach the password login screen (freezes at the screen with the windows logo). I have checked the event viewer, heres what i found after the last crash today...

I keep my machine clean from viruses and malwhare using Avira free antivirus, Malware bites and SuperAntiSpyware, not sure if these are the best / most reliable or if that is even a contributory factor.

Any advice on this problem would be most welcome tyvm :~)

A:Windows 7 constantly freezing / kernal power error 41

Well just a though. Kernal power error 41 is telling you as far as Windows 7 is concerned it wasn't shut down correctly. You have programs hanging which can cause a improper shut down. Programs hanging could be for many reasons and one is running SSD's in Raid (?). The small amount of speed increase you get by using SSD's in Raid would only show up when moving very large foldes/files. My understanding using Raid you will loose Trim.

Two days ago, windows explorer would crash about every 15 minutes or so. Then yesterday I woke up to my computer saying "Your computer could not be automatically repaired." and I was stuck in an automatic repair loop. I did a system refresh and was able to get into the computer again. But after about 5 minutes windows explorer crashed and wouldn't reopen so I restarted. Then I got a screen that said to search "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT" so I did what that said to do to fix it, but now my computer only boots into "Checking Disk: 0%" or "Repairing Disk Errors" and neither make any progress after hours. I am able to boot in a preview mode of Ubuntu from a thumb drive but I can't access my main hard drive because windows is in hibernation. I have files on my computer that are irreplaceable such as family pictures and activation keys for different products.

If you are running =only= Ubuntu then you should be able to access any part of any drive on your machine using numerous utilities available. For example, you could copy your target drive to another destination drive with, say, "dd" then work with the copy. Google has lots of hits for such type of recovery.

I'm not familiar with the "preview mode of Ubuntu" however you for SURE can boot Ubuntu (or some lesser Linux) standalone from a thumb drive and then access your hard drive either raw or even mounted as a FAT32 or NTFS disk.

[if you are getting disk errors or memory errors I for SURE would not want to be using Windows that actually USES that disk; you want to preserve the state as it is NOW and fix from there. Maybe "memtest" would be a good place to start - available online and works standalone and will not touch your disk(s) - just does a thorough check of memory]

I am having one heck of a time with our Dell laptop. It is used mostly by my husband for reading and I occasionally use it to check email and Facebook. I've wanted to add some memory to it for awhile now but recently we have encounter a really annoying problem. It takes FOREVER and I do mean, FOREVER to get the laptop to start up. I've checked the start-up folder, I've run Avast on full scan and Malwarebytes and STILL can't seem to fix the problem. As far as I know, the computer is updated and we don't use Internet Explorer. The husband uses Mozilla and I use Google Chrome. I am at a loss.
It will also freeze up, take forever to close down and sometimes, just refuse to do anything. I haven't gotten any error messages, no warnings, I recently defragged it too. It can take a maddening long time to even get the browser of choice to open up.
It is getting so frustrating that I am ready to just toss it against the wall! I plan on giving my husband this laptop for his full time use (since all he does is read on the internet) and getting myself something more versatile. However, I wouldn't give this laptop to our puppy right now in the state it is in. I realize this was never a speedy machine, but this is ridiculous. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I have also run Ccleaner too.

The harddrive usage on my pc is constantly at 100% and it's causing the pc to be really slow. Surely this is not normal right? I can't find a solution anywhere... If someone can help me that would be amazing! Specs: i5-4670K, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD, GTX780

A:Harddrive usage constantly at 100%

That happened to my hard drive a few months before I finally decided to replace it - it started to fail but I managed to extend its life over several months.
There can be at least three causes for constant high disk activity, however:
1. Your file system is highly fragmented - action: defragment your hard drive. You can check the fragmentation status of your PC using the Windows defrag utility.
2. Your system is actively copying files, such as when installing an application or when something is heavily being downloaded. Action - check if your system is downloading something... or just simply restart your PC.
3. Your hard drive is starting to fail. You can check this with Command Prompt* - Action: if bad sectors are detected, backup all your files and replace the hard drive as soon as you can.
*- Type chkdsk for a quick scan or chkdsk /r for a full scan and attempt recovery of bad sectors. The second option will take a lot more time (several hours) and will require you to restart your PC before being able to run a full disk scan.

A:Harddrive led keeps flashing constantly

Hi mohandj and welcome to TSF,

It seems something is accessing your harddrive and I'm guessing that you could not find out what by using the Task Manager. Try using Process Explorer, it gives you a lot more info than Task Manager.

You can download it at this link:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896653.aspx

Hope this will help,

Hello! my old computer's HD is Running constantly. i cant get it to stop work. is it a hardware problem or software? and how can i solve it? thanks for your help

A:My Harddrive is running constantly

There's quite a few things that can have that effect. Let's start simple and work up.

How old is the hard drive?

I would check the overall space of the hard drive, good practice to have at least 20% free. The HD may also be fragmented, you can check the status of both of these from the disk defragment application. If the HD space is lower then 20%, you may want to delete temporary files from Disk cleanup.

Next I would check the RAM and Virtual memory amount, it depends on what system your running, but a good baseline is anywhere from 2gb to 4gb of ram, and 1.5x your current ram amount = virtual memory. You can confirm these from the Task Manager, under the Performance tab.

If those come up clean and fine, you may want to do a quick virus scan. I personally recommend Malwarebytes, you can find the most current version from their website at Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

Hello Rafster,Please avoid installing/uninstalling or updating any programs and attempting any unsupervised fixes or scans. This can make helping you impossible.I see Viewpoint installed. I'm having a truely annoying issue. I cannot figure out why.
All of a sudden, maybe every 10-30 minutes, the harddrive LED will go on constant light, and the computer will come to a halt.
It doesn't exactly freeze. I can still move the mouse, and do some minor tasks.

I'm running windows 7 Ulti x64 on it. It is my media center, hooked up to the TV through HDMI.
CPU is Intel I3-2100T and the motherboard is a Intel Desktop Board DH67CF.
It is running a WD Green disc.

It has been running, without any issues, for about three months now. Then a few days ago, all of a sudden, it started doing this.

No new updates were put on, or any new software.
I got home from work, and it wouldn't start. It locked up at "Starting Windows".
So I put the Windows CD in, and went into repair. It fixed some "Disc errors" and it was able to run again, but now with this stupid issue.

I have been unable to isolate what is going on. No CPU or mem usage looks strange or spikes when it happens. I have watched resource manager, but have not been able to see what is using the disc.

I hope you guys have some ideas.
Thanks.

A:Periodic error: Programs freeze and harddrive LED is constantly on

Run the system file checker to see if anything crops up.

SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot

You may also want to run a full anti-virus check, for which Malwarebytes is highly recommended.

Just recently I took out my external hard drive out of its enclosure case. When I put it back in, the drive seems to be "lagging" really bad, and sometimes freezing up the computer.

The only thing I keep on the drive is music files.

Are there some type of tools that may help me find out whats wrong? Hopefully this drive isnt dying. Ive got over 5 years of data!

A:External Harddrive Freezing Up

Well after 5 Years of data, it could actually be full (above 90%) and horribly fragmented.
First off check how much space is available in percentage.

The other point is, that you may not have plugged the wires back in properly, you will need to undo it again, and re-confirm (by unplugging/replugging internal data cables)

Also after 5 years the drive may just be comming to the end of its life expectancy, and therefore grabbing (buying) a new drive, and backing everything up to it, would be most important, (As Mr. Burns says, "post haste")

Time to update to a bigger drive, and backup to it, I feel.

Hey guys, I've had this problem for aslong as i can remember,
When im playing a game, or just running windows My computer will freeze out of no where. And when it does freeze , if i had anysound at the time, it repeats like the last 0.03 secs of audio, over and over at like 1000 mph.

At first i thought it might have been my onboard audio, So i went and bought a Soundblaster live, and disabled my onboard,
But that didnt help.

Im running windows 2000 pro, 256 sd Ram,1 Maxtor 10 gig, and Another Maxtor 60 gig (os is on the 10 gig, has 5 gigs free space) 1.0 amd athlon, Im unaware of my motherboard, it came with onboard sis7018 sound, and a sis 900 lan card if that helps atall. A geforce 5900 fx, and a 550w Powersupply.

Now as for my hard drive problems, When i try to defrag my 60 gig, about 4% threw it it gives me a blue screen of death saying "bad memory dump" or somthing like that.

I've tryed to run norton disk doctor , but it says i have to schedual a scan after next reboot, so i do, and it goes threw the windows scan . about 80% way threw the surface scan , i hear a "grrr , click click click click" from my harddrive , ,That lasts for awhile, about 2 hours, then it finnaaly passes, and the scan disk finishes. I went back to try the defrag again, and the same thing happends.

Now i've had these freezes before my 60 gig, And i've formatted and clean installed recently as well. So im really kinda stummped, unless im re-introducing the... Read more

Hey guys. I have a laptop with 2 external drives. I had saved my info and reformatted them both to try to get them to stop freezing. One of them did and the other got a lil worse. If sitting alone for about 30 min's, it will stop working (freeze). I have to unplug it and replug it to get it to work again. If I transfer a large file from the harddrive, it will freeze. If I transfer too many small files, it will freeze. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening? Thanks !!!

For the past two months my laptop has been freezing inexplicably most often when browsing the internet, the weird part is that it'll freeze the first time but when i restart it it acts stable.I tried system restore, cleaning the registry, AV scans and spyware scans (With multiple programs), updated all drivers, defraged the hard drive

The only two things that u can think of is my Zone Alarm Firewall interfering with AVG (I heard this happens sometimes) or the numerous errors in the events viewer listed below:

it looks like you have avg and microsoft security essentials both running- I would un install mse and see if that fixes the problem as they may may (or may not?) play well together. This is unlikely but the update error 0x80070070 is about your hdd being full- is it? Here is an article on that- http://blogs.technet.com/sus/archive/2008/...0x80070070.aspx

I updated a compaq laptop computer from ME to XP. I added 256 ram on the laptop since it only had 56.

It was working fine and I returned it to the owner and they said whenever they were using AOL it was freezing.

I started working with it and it was freezing so muchand it keep checking the disks for errors and correcting the problems. I decided to reformat and reinstall. That is completed but now when I go to windows update it freezes. I've tried typing it in, going thru explorer and trying to go to www.microsoft.com and then a link from there but as soon as it gets to the windows update address it freezes.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

OK I know MSN freezes on all computers every now and again but mine has been playing up a lot lately.

In the past it has frozen during conversations etc...But in the past few days it shuts down immediately upon opening it (each time).

It says 'Not Responding'.

I've tried closing it while frozen using Task Manager however this does not work - (I've left it 5mins+ to close - nothing happens!)

I've tried Shutting Down or Restarting the computer. Each time it takes about 1-2mins to respond and then it says 'Logging out' and then 'Shutting Down'.
However it stays on the 'Shutting Down' screen for ages. I've left it on one for 2hrs.

Each time I end up having to just manually shutting down the laptop by cutting the power...

Anyone know how to resolve this?

Thanks a million!

I installed driver version 362.00 and everything worked great. I played Dark Souls 3 for about an hour with 65% fan speed, after a 10 min break I played CS GO then the problem started to happen. Screen tear is present and my game freezes then recovers. The audio will also freeze in that frame. I uninstalled my nvidia drivers with DDU and clean installed the latest driver but the problem still persist.

Alright, I'm at my wits end with this machine. I've re-installed XP at least five times, I've tried different RAM, and I've even tried another hard drive. All it does is freeze, right after the install, so I know it's not any software that's causing it. Common sense tells me it's the RAM, but I've replaced that.

Any help appreciated.

I have a 1.60 GHz pentium with 256 MB of ram, running XP Pro 2002 Service Pack 2. I would say this system is 4 or 5 years old now.

I took my computer in for service the first part of June, had the hard drive wiped clean and a clean install of the XP Pro. Last week it just started going haywire. The screen would go black and it would freeze (mouse and keyboard--no Ctl-Alt-Del). I took it in to the shop last Thursday, and they removed an internet filtering program that I had downloaded. That helped quite a bit, but it still freezes on me. Sometimes I can work for 4 hours, sometimes 5 minutes before it freezes. I could not even work on it today, it froze constantly. I also replaced the mouse because the driver was old and the problem seemed possibly to be mouse related. That also did not help the problem--in fact, I think the old mouse worked better. I have run Scan Disk several times, Spybot, AVG, and CCleaner. No viruses detected. The whole system seems to be running slower than usual, too. I do notice some graphics involvement when it freezes--the mouse will be cut in half or there will be a little vertical line.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My hard drive was replaced 3 weeks ago. I installed OS and the bear minimum software. I then installed all patches/updates to OS and office that were available through windows update. ever since day 1 - this computer will not stop freezing up... it is constant. I have already posted here and had computer hijacked - I have ad-aware and run it daily. the puter even freezes on start -up on occassion - rarely runs for more than 1/2 hour at a time.... always will freeze when it isn't used for several minutes... all power settings have been shut off - no screen saver/powering down monitor/or hibernation .... I feel like it could be a driver... I already uninstalled Nvidia Gforce3 ... so windows is using a generic video driver - hardware settings shows nvidia being disabled. I don't know what else to do . Here is an updated hijack log. Any advice?

Hi

I really hope someone can help me with this after installing windows 8 and using it for the past 3 weeks now I have found that my pc is freezing and not closing down properly and this gets worse with each day. I am unable for some reason to go back to windows 7 using the factory restore tool!!. But I will say I do like using windows 8 but these crashes are now beginning to get on my nerves due to them happening constantly all day.

I have uploaded a zip file with my events log and hoping that if I can get these fixed I will be happy to stay with windows 8. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hey ya, welcome.

Please run the tool in the top thread on the Crash subforum in the manner it asks, then attach the zip here that it makes. We'll see what's up.

My Dell Vostro 1400 Laptop recently quit working. Its only 4 months old.
I turned it on and it came to a screen saying,

"Windows dould not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
"\windows\system32\config\system"
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair"

I inserted the setup disc and booted from it, when I got the the Repair option it says,"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue."

So I took the computer down to the local computer store and they put in a new 130 GB harddrive, ran the setup disk again and it displayed the same missing HDD message.

Anyone have any Ideas of what could be wrong???
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

I am having a lot of dfficulty with my computer. Since a few weeks now, the computer will randomly begin to freeze. Sometimes right away after start, or when left inactive, other times it will work for hours then suddenly freeze up. I am not sure what the problem is. Last month I had trouble with my Ipod and had to reformat it, which led me to reinstall Itunes. Ever since then the computer has been crashing and I will have to restart everything.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I hope I'm this posting in the right section.

Anyway my problems is that my PC freezes at random moments (while gaming, browsing, or even just browsing) , sometimes just temporarly, but keeps those 30 sec-1min freezes throughout, other times it stops responding completely , and while i can move the mouse , i can't do a thing but restart it.
And when it restarts , it hangs on the welcoming icon and doesn't do a thing, and only gives me a choice to go thru an endless loop of system repair that does nothing. Then i have to turn the power off ad then pray it will start ok next time.

Thing is , that problem has a way of disappearing after the PC isn't being used for a few days, but it comes back after 2-3 weeks. That's why the technical service where i brought it 2 times (it has still a 1,5 year warranty) haven't found a problem with it.

I tried re-installing the OS and cleaning it, like they suggested but the problem persists, so i guess it's hardware related?

I guess somebody will know what to do or encountered this kind of problem before. I hope i explained the problem alright.

Thanks in advance.

Since this seems like a hardware concern, run some hardware checks. If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Run all but the advanced tests with SeaTools for HDDs.SeaTools for Windows
SeaTools for DOS
If you have an SSD, make sure the following are up to date:SSD firmware
BIOS Version
Chipset Drivers
Hard disk controller drivers/SATA drivers
If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, make sure the drivers are up to date from the Intel site or Marvell site and not from your motherboard/vendor support site.

Monitor temperatures during the following tests. Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures. Real Temp is a good CPU temperature monitor.
Speccy - System Information - Free Download will monitor all hardware temperatures.
HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools can be inaccurate for CPU temperatures, but is a good program for GPU temperature monitoring.
Use FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net to test the graphics card GPU. Let it run until the GPU temperatures even out or until the GPU temperatures reach a dangerous level (you can find the max temperature for your card on either the nVidia or AMD sites; if you are not sure, ask us). The goal is to get a steady temperature, find out if the GPU is overheating, or to see if there are any artifacts present in the test itself: look for strange pixelated patterns on the screen or ... I'm not sure if I'm in the right place. Probably get bumped.

So whenever I visit TSN.ca or any other Bell media website, the video I choose to watch freezes. Whenever I visit these websites on my smart phone or anyone's computer but my own, it works perfectly fine.

I have tried turning off all my plugins concerning advertsing (ghostery, ABP) and still the same issues. I have updated java and flash and was unable to fix it. Other websites carrying videos including Youtube have not been affected by this issue.

I do not believe this is a network issue, nor a hardware issue since other websites work fine. This website used to work perfectly for me as well. Something has changed and I need to find out what.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Good Day,

For about the past two weeks, i have been encountering some problems with my PC which include ...

- PC freezing during use (which requires a restart because not even CTRL+ALT+DELETE works)

- About every other day while booting up a message stating "Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device."

- And finally the BSOD about three times during the past two weeks

I'm not sure of the cause, but i thought i'd start by considering it a virus/malware/spyware issue ....

I downloaded dds.scr and tried running it but i get a message stating "This tool does not support your operating system" ....

I run Windows Vista Ultimate, 64-bit, Service Pack 1

Hello. A few days ago, I got a brand new Acer Iconia W500 tablet running Windows 7 Home (32-bit), which is frequently freezing on me. In the process of configuring the computer for optimal use, I uninstalled several of the Acer junk programs that the machine came with and downloaded & installed Java, Malware Bytes Anti-Malware, and Ad-Aware, as well as attempting to run Windows Update. This is when the tablet started freezing up. I uninstalled Ad-Aware to free up resources, but that did not improve anything.

Anytime I try to open more that one tab or window in Internet Explorer (8), it is guaranteed to become non-responsive and can only be closed via the task manager, after which IE will continue to freeze until the computer is restarted. It should be noted that when IE is frozen and the processes are listed, there is always one more iexplore.exe process than is actually running (if opening a second tab made it lock up, there will be three IE processes listed). Windows Explorer also occasionally becomes non-responsive. When restarting or shutting down the tablet after a lock-up, it will usually freeze while shutting down, requiring a hard restart.

Windows Update initially claimed it downloaded 58 updates successfully, but when I chose to install them, it made no progress. Now when I try to run WU, it says that it’s checking for updates, indefinitely.

The computer runs fine when I start it in Safe Mode (w/ Networking), so it seems like something ... Read more

I've had my laptop for about 2 years now and never had any trouble with it, but for the past week it freezes straight as a I log on and won't go back to working again. After running virus scans in safe mode (it usually freezes half way through them) and leaving it off for 24 hours it worked fine again for about 2 hours then the same thing happened again. Tried to run the scans again but nothing happened. A week ago (just before this all started) I connected my new iPhone 5 to the laptop and it froze it then, so I went to system restore back to the date this happened, then it crashed during that, now the thing doesn't even recognise its on charge and won't switch back on at all?

Hello. I am having a very difficult time using my laptop. Dell Inspiron 6400.
About 1 mos ago my computer started to freeze up whenever I opened Mozilla, or up to the tool bar to change any options. The freezing would last about 30 seconds, after which things ran normal

I deleted Mozilla and started to use explorer, the problem surfaced there as well. I finally did a "dell restore" that solved the problem for a few days, but then the problems started again.

I have run memory check and the full dell diagnostics and everything comes up okay.

Now every time I open explorer up, my computer freezes for aprox 30 seconds. Also when the computer first loads up, it also freezes for aprox 30 seconds.

I did spybot, adaware, ccleaner and the trendmicro virus scan.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Been having problems with my keyboard freezing, at first I found that taking the battery out, holding esc for 30 seconds then setting the bios to saved defaults worked as a temporary fix, but as time has went on it has gotten worse, every time I manage to get the keyboard working again as soon as I play anything with sound ie YouTube or iTunes it freezes again and won't work until I do the bios reset, but if I don't play anything with sound it works fine.

Another method I tried was taking the battery out holding the power button for 30 seconds then the windows key and the letter b and resetting the bios to factory settings but even this has not worked. I'm totally stumped as to why this keeps happening as it is so out of the blue, I've also tried reinstalling the keyboard drivers but this did not work either. Would appreciate any help.

Edit: my problems are on a HP pavilion 15-e092sa

A:Opera; AIM is constantly freezing.

Hi,

I am not to familiar with Opera my self never really used it. But if it works for you and you like it then keep using it. As for the AIM problem. AIM uses a lot of ram the last time I checked. I might recommend that you try the program called Pidgin. This is a multi-protocol program that you can run aim in. See if that works any better for you.

Alright. This happened a long time ago, and I fixed it somehow. However, now it is happening again, and I cannot remember how I fixed it for the life of me. When a pop-up comes up, it freezes FireFox. The built in Pop-up blocker is on, but that's not the problem. I don't care for pop-ups, it's always fun to constantly click that X button every time one appears. But now, it will always freeze once I close out of it. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Goomba.

A:FireFox constantly freezing.

Did you try to reinstall Mozilla Firefox yet?

That might be an easy solution to your problem.

If that doesn't work you might try to get a new user account for mozilla firefox which resets all of the settings back to default.

1. Close Firefox completely (select File > Exit from the main menu of Firefox).
2. Select Start > Run... from the Windows Start menu (use the search box on Vista).
3. Enter firefox.exe -ProfileManager and press ok
4. Click Create Profile (Follow steps and once finished...)
5. Delete the default profile you have there, and start to use the other one (newly made) one.

Hope this helps!

This issue just started yesterday morning. I woke up yesterday morning to find the computers monitor (which went into hibernation) and the CPU still running (apparently soeone other than myself was on the computer and left it on overnight). I should also mention that the internet was still running as well (internet provided by my cable company)

Because the computer was unresponsive, I had to manually shut it down and turn it back own. It booted up like it normally should, but then 15 minutes after starting it up (and while I was on the internet), it froze. The mouse would not respond, ctrl-alt-delete wouldnt work either, so again I had to manually shut it down.

However, when I tryed to start the computer again, my monitor would display a message such as "No Input Signal" and 5 seconds later would go to sleep. So I was forced to manually shut it down again. I would get this same error message 5 or 6 times before the hp splash screen would come up and load like it normally should. However, the computer would only last between 5-15 minutes before freezing up again.

Once I manually shut it down for the 10th time and turned it back on again, I got an error message about some DLL's were corrupted or missing which prevented Windows XP from loading normally. So I did a PC recovery, and got XP to run again, but the computer is still freezing.

I'm worried that the constant freezing and me having to manually shut it down would be causing more problems. I actual... Read more

i've had my laptop for a year now and i've never had ANY problems with it whatsoever. well, i took my husband's external hard drive b/c mine is falling apart and i was freaking out i'd lose everything on it, so put it all on his for extra backup. well, that was DAYS ago, maybe 4-5. i'm not sure this has anything to do with it, but i wanted to mention that's the only new thing i've done, besides the usual.

at school on thursday, i brought the external in so my classmate could put a program (visual studio 2008) on it for me. his microsoft security essentials went off with about 4 worms/trojans. he said he cleaned it off, but now ever since then, my laptop keeps freezing! it doesn't matter what i do or load up, it'll freeze within 2 minutes.

essentials said it successfully deleted the worms, so i'm not sure that's it. it's just weird that after he hooked up the external to his laptop, it caused MINE to freeze, even though i don't have it hooked up to my laptop. i hooked it up when i got home from school and then took it off b/c it started freezing. while i was sitting there, though, he wanted to make sure none of it got onto his (he has windows 7), he ran his antivirus through and nothing came up, so he said he didn't get any of it.

i have no clue what to do and i'm sorry if it's in the wrong place. i'm not sure if i should just reinstall vista with the CD that came with my laptop, but i'... Read more

I have a Toshiba Satellite L305-S5919 with Windows Vista. It has been freezing about every 30 minutes-1 hour. It started last night after i got a blue screen saying it was shutting down to prevent any damage. This occured while i was playing World of Warcraft and listening to Itunes. Im currently in safe mode with networking. It's not freezing while in safe mode. I also use AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A:Computer freezing constantly.

It may be shutting down due to overheating. Most laptops are not designed to be gaming machines. You can try using compressed air to blow dust out of the vents and see if that helps.

I have had my laptop (Toshiba Satelite) for at least a year or two, quite a while now, and have had no problems with it at all until just a few days ago. It has started to freeze up and not respond to anything except mouse motions. It usually does this with anything other than Internet Explorer and does it especially if I run a program like Windows Defender, or Malwarebytes, which I installed today because of a reccomendation in another thread on here. It will let those open up and then freeze a couple minutes into the scan. It will freeze with IE open much later than with other things open. When it freezes, it will just let me move the mouse and that's it. It will not respond to any clicks, keystrokes, ctrl alt del, or anything other than holding the power button down until it turns off. It has done this every time I have restarted my computer today, which seems to be about at the 800 mark by now... It's confusing, it will freeze quicker with some programs and not as quickly with others, but when it does, the only way to get out of it is to forcibly shut it down. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi,

I have this laptop I sto- I mean borrowed from my brother and I have been having constant bother from it.

It began with the problems of two broken keys (G and H) and a problem with connecting to the internet...

So I sent it off.

When it came back from a computer repair company called "Tech Guys" (This is in England, by the buy) and it made things worse. It then started freezing on occasions and the date and time settings were broken.

I sent it off again,

They replaced the motherboard because it was corrupted but then freezing became the terrible condition and I sent it off, again and again. But they didn't fix it. They didn't send me a new one either. Luckily we get unlimited fixes because we pay.

I want to fix it, could you guys kindly look into it?

Thanks.

Hi:

For the last few weeks my computer has been freezing up on me constantly and I've had to restart it to get things back to "normal".

I know that various things cause your computer to freeze and thought that maybe that the fact that I haven't done a defrag in a while could be the problem.  I defragged last night and unfortunately, that didn't resolve my problem.

I've did a full scan with Dr. Web Cureit(took around 12 hours) back in late August and a few things were found which I deleted.  Then about a week or so ago I did a full scan with Malwarebytes and it found a few things and I thought that was that. I don't know what else to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Vista laptop freezes all the time. Often, I am just browsing the internet (no other apps open), and the computer completely freezes. I can't move the mouse at all, and CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't do anything at all. The only solution is to do a hard reset of the computer.

Additionally, the laptop often fails to go into hibernate. The screen goes black but the various activity indicator lights stay on. I can't "wake up" the computer by pressing the power button, and moving the mouse of pressing other buttons doesn't do anything. Again, the only solution is a hard reset.

Often, when I start up the computer again, it freezes completely at the loading windows screen. I have to do a hard reset yet again, and then I have to run the "windows failed to start" utility and do a system restore before I can use the computer again.

Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this? It's driving me crazy!

P.S. I cannot install SP1 for some reason (Microsoft and Dell support are clueless about this, and the only way to do this seems to be completely reformatting), so I am running Vista Home Premium without the SP1 update. Not sure if that makes any difference for the freezing problem though.

I haven't been able to repeat the problem in safe mode.
I reinstalled Windows from the recovery partition a day or two ago, updated Windows, rebooted and the thing locked up immediately.

Hi Shadowraider and welcome to TSF

Sorry for the delay in getting to you, the forum has been really busy lately and all our helpers are volunteers

There is no set average for running processes as these will depend on the PC and the applications installed. They will constantly increase/decrease while the computer is running, as programs (including background processes) are opened/closed. e.g. I have 42 processes running with an open browser and notepad opened. The rest are system processes, anti-virus program, firewall, anti-spyware and a few programs I chose to run at startup. Some users will tweak the startups to get down to about 25 processes but that's usually not needed unless your computer is really slow to boot up or slow at opening programs or responding to user input.

I don't see any malware in your log but I will take a further look to make sure, however..........

I notice that you have more than one anti-virus programs on your machine (AVG & Symantec). That's not a good idea!!

This messes up the machine pretty badly. Alike firewalls, anti-virus programs have conflicts co-existing with each other & may produce undesirable results. Please uninstall ALL leaving only one of them.

ALL the antivirus programs must be removed via add/remove program.
For any program that doesn't have an add/remove entry, you will have to do this:re-install the program -> reboot -> uninstall## Do NOT proceed with the rest of the fix until you have resolved t... Read more

For a few weeks, my computer has been freezing a lot. I reinstalled drivers updated windows and software, tried everything, but is won't stop. No information related to the freezing is left in the event viewer, so I think it is a hardware problem.. My computer is less than 2 years old so a worn out hard drive is pretty much out of the question. The freezing usually, but not always occurs when the computer is working hard (serveral apps open at once, video editing, etc) and seems to occur more often when the computer has been on for a long time. The freezes usually happen every few minutes and it is driving me CRAZY! I want to pick up my computer and throw it at a brick wall because I can't get anything done! HELP! PLEASE! What is going on?! I think it could be a processor problem but I'm not good with hardware so I need help urgently! Thanks!

I got my new Yoga 900 in the mail about two days ago and ever since it's been randomly freezing - more frequently recently.  It froze once on the first day of use and I chalked it up to errors with Windows 10.  It froze once more before I updated Windows and today after updating Windows it froze four times in one day.  There's no error message or anything, it just freezes completely without a BSOD and the only way to use it again is to shut it off and turn it back on. Aside from uninstalling bloatware and updating Windows with windows update, I haven't made any modifications to the software or anything.  I haven't dropped it and it's always been put in a case when stowed in my backpack.  I've babied this thing every step of the way.  What's causing this?  I'm really disappointed in having these problems with a brand new $1300 laptop.  Is this common?

A:New Yoga 900 Constantly Freezing

Hi yogaflame, welcome to the forum.

If all of the "bloatware" you are referring to, includes the Lenovo Companion, and Settings, you probably didn't receive the updates provided by Lenovo.

    Still, if you go here:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/yoga-900-13isk?

... and compare your installed driver versions, to the Lenovo driver list, then update to the new, you should be all set.

Make note that there is a new BIOS, C6CN34WW, so if you're not on that revision, update the BIOS first.

Cheers

My dad has a computer with Windows XP on it which he runs his business off of and it is constantly freezing on him, let me get into more detail..

You will still be able to move the mouse around and you can maximize programs but once you do that you cant do anything more with them, and everything just eventually stops responding. The problem started out where the computer would freeze after being inactive for about 10 minutes, as long as he was at the computer doing something it would work fine but if he left it alone it would freeze.

Well we tried some things first to try and fix it, ran AVG but of course the computer froze during the scan. I tried to do a simple system restore, problem is the computer freezes during and it does not have time to finish it. So i went on to run a checkdisk (chkdsk /r) and had it run on startup, problem is the computer froze during the checkdisk aswell. After another day it starts freezing even when he is using it, first after about 10 minutes and now its down to 5 minutes tops. So since he has his older HDD in the computer still that he uses as extra disc space now I went ahead and booted off of that, its really bogged down like it was before he got his new computer but atleast it works. That one has a recovery console built into it so i booted off of that and ran chkdsk /r on his C drive (which ofcourse is the one we are trying to get fixed). Some problems found and repaired, great! Booted off of the drive it still freezes.

My computer's problem is that all the programs and everything that's running suddenly freezes (programs, mouse, music, etc.) from time to time. Especially when I'm watching videos, usually on fullscreen, or on particular websites such as Twitter or those that take a while to load, are sluggish when scrolling through or have a lot of content. After it freezes, I would have no choice but to restart the computer. I tried formatting my computer, and installing the system on a new hard drive with plenty of space. I also cleaned out the dust from the CPU to make sure it's not over-heating, used a few programs and cleaned out the registry, deleted unused files and programs but nothing seems to work, the computer still freezes pretty often. After I formatted the computer, it started freezing less often and the blue screen where Disk Checking occurs stopped appearing whenever I had to restart my computer. Which means it helped a little bit to format the computer, but did not solve my problem. Hope you can help!

Hi,

My USB mouse keeps freezing every few seconds. Regardless of what I'm doing, it will freeze every 10-15 seconds for a period of time of anywhere from half a second or so to ~10 seconds. I've tried this in multiple USB ports and I've gone through all of the settings to disable the powering down of the USB, etc. I've replugged the mouse and restarted my PC more times than I care to count over the last two days. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers automatically and manually a silly amount of times. This has also happened with two mice in two days, except one of them now isn't even being recognised by Windows anymore. I tried to system restore, but the furthest back I could restore to was about two hours after the problem started occurring.

Any help would be great, as this is unbelievably frustrating.

Thanks.

I recently had some help from this forum last week removing a virus. I'm not sure if that might of had anything to do with it or not.

Here's my comp's specs...

My computer has been acting really crappy lately.
Really slow
I can get on the internet but the links take forever or the no response
cpu is running at 100%
We get a microsoft no response and have to reboot or if you control alt delete it says that there is nothing it is working on even though you have click on a program. Programs freeze constantly and take forever to get to another excel sheet as an example.
I have norton internet sercurity, I have done iolo system mechanics 6
we have run our adware
I have run pc pit stop on the computer which said it found trojans. Are all my problems caused by these and can you suggest a product to take them off.
If it is not a trojan that is slowing down the computer what other suggestion do you have for me. I really don't understand what is making the cpu run a 100%
Thank you for your time and help

Hi there! New here, so I will try my best to describe what is going on. First off, I want to say that i am NOT at all computer saavy..I know the basics, so I apologize for the tons of questions I will probably end up asking..if you can help me , that is.
I am running Win XP Home, AMD Athlon XP Processor 1.67GHz, 256 MB RAM. If you need any other info, PLEASE let me know.
A few weeks ago, all of a sudden , my pc started running a bit sluggish, mouse was really lagging too. The pc started freezing up on me...the pointer would still move freely , but if I go to click on anything, nothing happens, it just sits. Also, the comp will just restart. I will be reading mail, on a message board , looking something up..and it will happen, so I'm not noticing and particular moment that it does this. The thing is , it is to the point now where i am lucky to get online! It will freeze before I can even connect now. There is also a box popping up saying this...
"rundll- error loading nview.dll- a dynamic link library initialization routine failed"
and also...
"the file 'VIAAGP1.SYS' ON VIA AGP FILTER DRIVER DISK IS NEEDED. TYPE THE PATH WHERE THE FILE IS LOCATED THEN CLICK OK." -
I have no clue what these mean, why they are coming up all of a sudden or what to do about them.
When it freezes up, the only way I can shut it down is to use the power button on the cpu. I am at my wit's end here !! If there is anybody with some advice that might help, I would greatly ... Read more

A:Freezing up and pc restarting constantly..

Hi,

Seems to me that you have you video drivers missing or something.

Quote:

rundll- error loading nview.dll- a dynamic link library initialization routine failed

Are you running multiple monitors? Anyway, try Start=>Run=>msconfig
Then go to the startup tab and search for a line called rundll32.exe nview.dll,nViewLoadHook or something similar. The Startup Item should be nview. Uncheck it.

VIAAGP1.SYS' ON VIA AGP FILTER DRIVER DISK IS NEEDED. TYPE THE PATH WHERE THE FILE IS LOCATED THEN CLICK OK

This one should be related to your drivers. Can you find out the name of your graphic card? Drivers page This is the page to download drivers for the graphics. Check if you see anything familar.

This computer is used by more than one person and my roomate didn't understand the warning message Avast gave when a bad file was dowloaded, and it was allowed on the computer and now the computer is infected. He doesn't know what the file was called or any information unfortunately. The symptoms are that Explorer constantly freezes for the most inane actions like opening a folder. I'm running Vista on a Hp Pavillon dv9417ca Notebook PC with 2 gigs of Ram, AMD Turion 64 X2 1.8 GHz processor, and a 160 gig harddrive that keeps changing size(Part of the infection).

I first cleaned out the temp files with ATFcleaner
Then I ran Malwarebytes and ran it again from Safe mode
I then ran Avast from a boot scan.
I finally ran Kaspersky online scanner.

Nothing was found by any of these.

I was going to try to use combofix but I read on the site that it can damage my system and since I'm ignorant of its function, I won't.

Any help would be more than appreciated.

OK, well, to start with, thank you to everyone who tries to help me out with my issue, means a lot!

OK, so the issue is, my computer (recently) has decided to be a prick and at random times after start up (could be before i log in, could be in 4-5 hours) it will freeze up, nothing on the screen will load, all sounds will stop, and mouse wont respond, the only way to un-freeze it is to manually reboot the computer, it happened after i put a new graphics card in it, (nVIDIA GeForce 5500) i successfully installed the drivers and the card, and had fun with my semi-improved graphics, then came the freezing, i tried everything, even removing the card, removing everything about nVIDIA that was added, and system restoring to a factory reset. still freezing, any help once again is GREATLY appreciated, right now the card is OUT of the computer.

Specs:
Compaq Prescario SR1426NX
Intel 4 Pros.
3 GB RAM

If you would like any other info, ask and i will be more then happy to get it for you

THANKS again!
