Computer crashes after HDMI/Aux cable is connected

Q: Computer crashes after HDMI/Aux cable is connected

I recently found out that every time i plug in a HDMI or Auxiliary cable, my computer crash. I tried changing the cable to see if that was the problem and it wasn't. I just don't know where to look to start fixing the problem. I've considered that maybe the connector is faulty, but i'm looking for option before going to that.

I use HDMI to connect my TV for movies
I use the auxiliary Cable to connect a speaker.
on different occasion.

A: Computer crashes after HDMI/Aux cable is connected

Did you try shutting the computer down, plugging in the cable then starting back up? I've crashed a computer when plugging in a USB Thumb/Flash drive, turned out it was caused by static electricity that I'd built up walking across a carpeted room, now have anti-static touch pads on my desks to touch before anything else.

I have an Acer Aspire laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

I regularly connect it to my TV monitor via HDMI cable and fall asleep watching movies (played on VLC or Windows Media Player).

I set the computer to go to sleep after 1 hour.

Multimedia Settings are set to "Allow computer to sleep" under "When Sharing Media" in the Power Management section.

Screensaver is disabled.

I have overrided my audio driver, since powercfg command suggested it may be a conflict.

If I am playing a movie without the HDMI cable plugged in, the computer goes into sleep mode right on schedule. It is only when I have the HDMI cable plugged into my TV monitor, that it refuses to enter sleep mode.

What could be causing this problem? Makes no sense to me.

I just installed a gigabyte hd4350 in my hp a1520n desktop bc it has an hdmi output. picture looks good, sound works, however when the hdmi cable is connected to the my samsung lcd tv, i get no sound through my computer speakers even when im not using the tv as a monitor or when the tv is turned off. i get sound through the tv though. when i unplug the hdmi cable from the tv, i get sound on the computer.

is there a fix for this? i have onboard sound enabled in the bios.

i have windows xp 32bit. in the sound and audio device properties, under the audio tab, default device, i see both realtek hd audio output and ati hd audio rear ouput when the hdmi cable is connected. when its not connected, just realtek hd audio is available.

i know i cannot have sound coming through the tv and computer speakers at the same time. is it possible for the sound to be switched back to the computer speakers when the tv is off WITHOUT having to unplug the hdmi cable that goes to the tv?

Hello, I just bought an HDMI cable to connect from my HP Pavilion x360 onto my TV. Unfortunately, I only get video on my TV but no audio. The audio only comes from my Pavilion x360. I am aware of right clicking the volume icon and clicking on "playback devices" to set defult the HDMI cable or TV. Unfortunaly, this is not visible even after enabling the disconnected and disabled devices. Please, anyone help so I can get the audio on my TV as well? I've let a screenshot. As a reminder, my HDMI is connected on both sides, and I have both disconnected and disabled devices visible. Thank you!

I know this is one that has been floating around the forums for a while but I have not been able to find anything that works in my situation. When I connect my laptop to my TV (Panasonic Viera Plasma) via an HDMI cable, I can get the video to show on the TV fine but there is no audio on the TV; it comes out of the laptop. As the title says, I've tried connecting my TV to my computer with an HDMI cable, and the video part works, but no sound plays. When I checked the list of playback devices, the TV appeared (as shown below), but it apparently cannot play sound.

I don't think I know anything beyond what I've posted, but if anyone could help me out with this, I would appreciate it.

Also, as a side note - I am completely unable to interact with any of these objects - I cannot set something as a default device; there is no response when I do it, and disabling the audio device only works until current sources of sound (like videos) are restarted.

If you highlight the LG TV you should be able to set it as default. If not, it sounds lik a permission issue (like non-admin account).

Hey guys. I have connected my PC to my HDTV (Sansui), and I cannot find an option in the TV for 1:1 Pixel Mapping. I need this because my TV is overscanning my laptops display and the taskbar and other images are cut off the screen. It is also quite blurry. I have the TV's manual here:

I could not find an option in the manual, but maybe you guys could.

Connected to a normal TV and HDMI to DVI cable to my lcd monitor at the same time it gave me an option at startup to switch to my HDMI source, but when I did all I saw was black on the LCD screen.

I was able to go into Display settings and switch it to HDMI manually but when it swaps to my lcd monitor its nothing but black again!

Do HDMI to DVI cables work for PS3s? My lcd monitor does not have a HDMI plug in. Only VGA and DVI

I'm hoping theres a trick to get this working or at the very least an adapter that wouldn't degrade the quality as much.

Hey guys, I'm actually new here, so I am not sure if this is in the right forum page, but I need help. I have had a problem with my HDTV and laptop for a few months and finally decided to start a thread for help. The problem is that the HDTV is blurry and fuzzy when connected to my laptop via HDMI. However, I realize this is an overscanning issue, because in the AMD Catalyst Control Center, whenever I set the scaling for overscanning to 0%, the fuzzy text and screen is fixed, but the edges around the screen like the taskbar are cutoff the edge of the screen. I do not think my TV has an option for "Just Scan", but maybe you guys can find something I can't. Here is the manual:

Hi

I have connect my laptop using an HDMI cable to my TV. And from my tv I have connected my two HiFi speakers. When the TV is on an AV channel I have sound coming from the TV and HiFi speakers but when I switch it to the HDMI source channel, sound only comes from the TV and not HiFi speakers.

This is frustrating because I want to watch movies on my TV through my laptop and get the feel of some surround sound through the HiFi speakers but it is not working!!!!

Please Help!

Thanks

A:No sound to HiFi speakers when HDMI Cable Connected

The problem is not your PC but your TV and how it handles HDMI audio. There is nothing we can do for this, it is strictly an issue with your TV and how it routes audio internally (or to external devices).

Issue:

Windows 10 plays Mp3 Files just fine. Connect an HDMI cable to the video output port, and then windows 10 suddenly wont play those files. An error message pops us inside windows media player and Grove that this file type is not supported. Also no sound is played through the HDMI Cable to my TV, and no sound is played when i click the volume bar on the bottom right side.

More detail:

I work for an integration company. We just installed a couple of conference rooms for a company in which we have an HDMI cable running from the table through the floor in the walls and to the TV. From there it breaks out into the Amplifier and plays audio in the room. Normally i bring my Mac book pro for testing but i purchased this Windows 10 computer as a test device. However, With the computer and the HDMI cable i am getting video to the TV. When i enter my TV menu and arrow around the menu option my sound works on the built in speakers in the room. So i can confirm that the cabling is all correct. This is the identical setup that we always use. I have also plugged my Iphone into the cabling behind the TV and played music which worked perfectly fine.

Okay, so over the holidays I received a brand new Hisense television and I was watching movies and tv shows on my laptop on the big screen through an HDMI cable for a few weeks. Before that I was doing the same thing with the big screen in our living room for months. I got up one day and wanted to plug it in but I kept getting a message saying no signal. I had had it plugged in the night before and it worked just fine. Yes, I checked to make sure it was on the right setting, HDMI 1. I also tried plugging it in the other HDMI slots on the tv and it didn't work in those either. It is doing the same thing to our tv in the living room and it just doesn't make any sense. The only thing I can think of is that my computer has some kind of driver that just needs to be updated or something but I have no idea which one. HELP PLEASE!

Hello,

My laptop's screen goes black when I connect it to the TV via a HDMI cable, however this is completely new as it used to work fine. I can still watch things on my TV but I have to look at the TV screen where text comes up quite small and it makes it hard to do stuff, so I was wondering if anyone would know why my laptop's decided to start doing this, and how I can get it back to both screens working at once? The volume and everything else works ok, it's just a bit annoying is all!

I have Windows Vista Home Edition, not sure of the details, but I got it just when Vista first came out.

Thanks!

I believe this is an issue with the change in resolution that is likely occurring when you connect the HDMI cable. If you can set the HDMI output to the same as the screen, then the icons should stay where you left them.
I had the same issue with icon location changes when another user signed into the PC and then signed in. My icons rearranged. After a lot of trial and error I found that if I set the resolution, scaling, etc. options in both profiles to the default values, the issue vanished. I don't think Windows 10 knows how to deal with resolution changes and desktop icon locations very well, although I vaguely recall experiencing this issue with prior Windows versions. I could not remember how I solved it then, but the resolution/scaling/etc. work around is acceptable.

Hi,
When I connect the HDMI cable to the TV, I see nothing on the screen and my laptop starts to blink until it causes an error to the graphics card and sometimes the computer crashes, checked several HDMI cables and that's not the problem. Any suggestions what causes this?
Thanks for the help.

A:Connecting HDMI cable to TV crashes laptop

Sounds like a resulution issue, go into controll panel, and make sure under display that you select hdmi only, this will use your tv as main screen, dont split it, most laptops have a shortcut key that when pressed auto switches the screen, this avoids errors and crashes, the main reason for crashes on dual screens i found was the resolution differance, the pc cant decide on which to follow, the crashes(this was way back on old screens). So set laptop resolution to full, make sure it set not to split the screen, but to use the tv as hdmi only. Obviously upgrade your grafix drivers, and see if it helps. Have a look on your laptop for a key that alows screen switching, its usually second function keys on the "F" keys, on my laptop its secondfunction F5, this makes things allot easier.

Hope it helps

Hi,

I have been using my Satellite Pro R50 (Windows 8.1 64bit) for about a year now and there is an problem I am struggling to solve.

Whenever I plug a HDMI cable into the laptop the machine freezes with a black screen. Removing the cable doesn't return the laptop to its prior state and it will not accept any commands from the keyboard. I'm therefore forced to hard reset the machine.

On this forum (and some others) the first suggestion is often to download the latest Intel drivers, which I have done from this site:

http://www.toshiba.co.uk/innovation/...jsp?service=UK

so I am reasonably confident that my machine is up-to-date in that regard.

I'm sure this problem has been encountered before, I just haven't managed to find a solution yet.

Any ideas?

So here's the story. I've been running Vista Home Premium for a couple months now. It has run fine, aside from the fact that I need a RAM upgrade - so its a little slow. Other than that - no problems - all is well.

I went to visit my parents out of town this weekend - gone from Friday evening until Monday night. I got in Monday night and went straight to the computer. I noticed that the computer was acting a bit buggy, but nothing in particular. Nothing strange enough for me to think "hmm... I should do some tests to see whats going on". So I just rebooted.

After reboot, the computer will boot up, seemingly fully into Vista, and before I can do anything, BSOD pops up, doesnt stay long enough for me to read anything and then the computer reboots. Repeat this paragraph infinitely, and you might understand what Im going through.

I tried a Restore, no go. I tried uninstalling a few programs that I had installed in the past month (even though it worked fine when I left Friday), no go. I tried disconnecting all extra hardware in my PC (firewire card, wireless card [which I never use], extra HDD, optical drive... I guess thats it, still no go. I then disconnected every cable from the back of my PC except the monitor cable and keyboard... Voila! Vista booted, ran fine... I rebooted and started adding back the hardware one at a time, rebooting between each one. Vista booted fine every time... Hi Mixpix405, and welcome to TSF

Lets disable automatic restart on BSOD

1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System
2. Go to Advanced
3. Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
4. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"

This is the XP version instuctions, but you should be able to find a similar solution. I am at work at the mo, so i will check on my Vista system when I get home, otherwise, I am sure you can work it out.

Then restart with the network cable attached and note down the error code. Although it might seem to be related to the network card, it would help to get a better idea of exactly the error we are dealing with. Others will post here too, so in the meantime try that and we can go from there.

Hi Zack1, Try this to see if it helps.  Download the Chipset driver and Graphics driver on the links below and save the installers to your Desktop. Chipset Graphics Driver Next, in Device Manager, open Display Adapters, right click on the Intel graphics chip and select Properties.  Click the Driver tab and then select uninstall.  When done, do the same for the for the Intel High Definition Audio Codec found under Sound Video and Game Controllers. Now return to the Desktop and install the Chipset driver and then the Graphics driver.  When complete, reboot the PC and see if this has helped.  Check in Device Manager that both the Intel Graphics and the Intel Hi Definition Audio codec have reinstalled successfully and whether you now see the HDMI Audio option under playback devices ( found in Control Panel, Sound ) as shown as the top option on the screenshot below ( ignore the fact that it's ATI, i just mean the TV icon option ). http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w146/rproffitt2000/?action=view&current=7Speakers.png&newest=1 If it shows up correctly, try the HDMI connection and see if it now functions properly. Best wishes, DP-K

Hello, this looks like a great forum, I'm hoping someone can give me some advice.

I have a Gateway Profile 3 that we used for several years and recently gave to my mother-in-law as her first computer.

It worked ok for her for awhile, but suddenly stopped working. When it's turned on, you can hear the fan start up and the HD light comes on briefly. I think it starts to spin, but it's hard to hear over the fan. The main power light never comes on, and the computer will just freeze at a blank screen, no POST, no beeps, nothing. The HD light will go off and that's it.

I opened it up and disconnected the HD and I/O connectors for the keyboard/mouse and it POSTed with an error.

Reconnected the HD and it POSTed with the same error.

Reconnected the I/O cable and it didn't POST, it was blank like I described above.

I bought a new cable, and tried that, but it still doesn't work. I'm afraid that it might be something wrong with the connections at either end, but I don't know how to check that or if there's really anyway to fix it if that's the problem.

Thanks for any suggestions you might have!

So some months ago I bought the parts for my comp and put it together and it worked just like I'd hoped.

Now lately I've been having more and more problems, first when I booted my comp it would power down giving me a message that the SB was overheated (even though my comp hadn't been turned on since last night.

So I thought it was just a fault in the thing that would show the temperature, since nothing I've done before has made anything in my computer warm at all, not even playing or anything.

Now this morning I wanted to turn on my computer and it turns on for less than a second (all fans running, harddrive and power supply running) everything seems to have power as usual, all the LED's lighting up when I power up my computer.

So I have spend all morning trying to figure out what it might be, and I can now get my computer to power up, but that is if I take the CPU's power cable out, as soon as I plug it back in the computer shuts down.

I'm running with:
Intel Core i7 920 2.66 GHz
6 GB Corsair 1333 MHz RAM
1 TB harddrive
Nvidia GeForce 295 GTX

I'm using an Antec 1200 case with 6 build-in fans
using a Zalman CPU fan cooler for the CPU

What I have tried so far is to take out most plugs and plug them in again, changed the heatsink paste on the CPU and nothing of it works exept for when I unplug the CPU power cable.

I really need all the help I can get.

I have a computer here that will not boot if the ethernet cable is connected. It will stall out on the bios splash screen. If you disconnect the cable and try again, it will boot fine and you can then attach the cable and have networking. It will then lock up ramdomly and you have to repeat the whole thing.
The cable looked strained, so I replaced it to no avail. Tried reinstalling the drivers for the on board LAN adapter and that didn't work either. Added a network PCI card, disabled the on board and all is fine.
Maybe someone could shed some light as to how an faulty Ethernet adapter would actually stop the POST when the cable is plugged in? Shouldn't it just skip it?

thanks,
Spline

This is a crosspost from the Microsoft Windows forum. I hope I won't get into trouble for it but I really need help.

There is a LOT going on here so I may forget something, but here goes.
O/S - Windows 2000 sp4
Problem: Whenever the Network cable is plugged in, the machine reboots (this does not occur when in Safe-Mode with Networking Support).

Causes: Upon examination, I suspected a virus. Opened in safe mode with networking, re-installed Symantec Anti-Virus which was crippled and updated virus definitions. System scan revealed 124 virus-infected files, some of which it could not quarantine.

Ran Spybot with latest definitions. It stalled about 3/4 of the way and program locked up.

Ran Ad-Aware with latest updates . . . nothing.

Checking system error log, I see two errors each time the reboot occurs.

They are:
Service Control Manager
The WebSeach Toolbar support NT service service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.

Service Control Manager
The Client IP-IPX service failed to start due to the following error:

Below, I am posting the H/J log. Any help here would be deeply appreciated.

Those error messages are likely due to the fact that a couple of malware services are trying to load without their files on the system. Some security app may have removed the files already.

Just got finished building that computer, installed WinXP Pro Corp, and the motherboard (Shuttle AN35N Ultra) has integrated LAN/Ethernet cable connector. So I decide to run the cable to my room. So I connect a cable into the last open router slot, run the cable along the wall, plug it in into a coupler, plug another ethernet cable into the coupler, then into my room and into the motherboard's integrated Ethernet slot.
I open IE and it doesn't connect. I restarted and it doesn't connect. What can I do to get this motherboard to detect my Ethernet cable?

I have a TV that I've been connecting to my PC (Windows 7) via HDMI as a second monitor. Ever since I first plugged it in it's worked fine although the resolution has looked a little weird.

The weirdness got to me, so I pulled up the screen resolution settings on my computer and tried setting different resolutions. I hit "Apply" to test one and both screens began flickering and then I got a blue screen.

Now whenever I plug the TV back in to the PC, the monitor flickers, I see a warning message in the bottom right pop up (something about a driver being successfully restarted or something - sorry, hard to read while the screen is flickering), and it crashes.

I'd be totally fine getting it back to how it was before I meddled, but I just want it working again. Any thoughts? I can provide further info about the TV and such if necessary, but I'm inclined to believe this is a more generic issue.

Thank you so much!

Hello quick question so i'm clear and to see what you would suggest.

I have a new upgrade LG 55 inch 4k TV connected to my PC via HDMI to GTX970 I've read this TV supports audio also via the same HDMI cable plugged in to my video card. I'm a huge gamer.

Right now I have a X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card connected to a 4.1 Logitech setup w/sub. I've been using this for years and it works great for surround sound when available and EAX is always a plus SO whats my benefit to 86 the 4.1 and just go HDMI?

In that case I lose the 4 speaker setup correct and just use audio from the TV?? I can't see the advantage for this unless i'm missing something big. I don't use SPDIF output or the Dolby digital or DTS encoder from the card I assume all that you need a receiver.

Can I use HDMI output for audio and STILL use my 4.1 speakers? I don't want to invest in a receiver or anything like that at this point. What would you do if you were me? i'm at work now but I read if I go into the sound properties/playback devices I can choose HDMI output? I'm curious to see how that works.

thx!

A:HDMI cable for audio or keep my 4.1 w/soundcard? need help w/HDMI

Windows only allows one default audio playback device. e.g. HDMI or Speakers (your sound card). HDMI audio is generated on a sound chip in the Video card. You don't have all the options you do with a Sound card.

I have an HP Pavilion Elite HPE machine, Windows 7, Radeon HD 5700 Series graphics card, connected to an Acer monitor and HDTV. Here's details on my setup: My Equipment | Building a Home Theater With Your Office PC

My problem is that even though my HDMI cable's plugged into my Radeon graphics card, sometimes the PC only recognizes the Acer monitor and not the receiver (that's connected to the HDMI cable and my HDTV). So I end up having to plug and unplug the HDMI cable several times (sometimes 10+) before it recognizes the HDTV/receiver connection.

Is there any setting that would favor the card/PC recognizing the HDMI cable more frequently? I've heard it's a handshake issue, and that maybe using a different type of cable would help. But wondering if there's a setting I could use to help before switching out cables.

Thanks for any help!

The computer won't boot - the cpu fan moved a second when I plugged in the power, and the stopped. If I disconnect the auxillary power cable, the CPU fan just can start, but of course it won't post. If I also disconnect the cpu fan, the power supply fan starts and I can see keyboard lights turned on for a second.

I measured the power on auxillary cable and it is ok: 2 12v and 2 GND. I am pretty sure that the power supply is good: I put on another power supply there and it is the same thing.

I have absolutely no idea about it...can anyone please tell me what it is (in brief) and also will it improve my graphic visuals in my monitor??

A:What is an HDMI cable and do I need one?

HDMI stands for high definition media interface, basically it's a 2 in one cable that carries the display signal as well as a sound signal. If you use a HDMI cable to connect your laptop to your tv for example, you'll be able to use the TV as another monitor, and you'll also be able to play music through your tv speakers.
With computer monitors, unless they have built in speakers that you plan to use, there's no real advantage of using a HDMI cable to connect from your computer, a standard DVI or VGA connection is just as good (Though go with DVI (White) over VGA (Blue) if possible there)

Because I am an ignoraums, I bought a HDMI to DVI cable for my new Digital TV to connect to my Dell pc.

I do not need a "to DVI" cable. I need a cable that will connect from the HDMI to my old fashioned big ole crt that has the pins and screws into the back of my cpu.

What do I need? JUst tell me what to shop for. exactly.
this is wat i bought http://www.eforcity.com/pothhdmid5m1.html

the connector for the tv is fine, the connector for the crt is not. I think I have a sixteen pin or a nineteen pin. I don't need any software do I? I have WMV and Quicktime and Realplayer. do any/all of them function with this kind of hookup?

A:HDMI cable

When you refer to the "Connector for the CRT" do you mean the connector that is on your old CRT monitor or are you referring to the video output connector on the computer?

If you are talking about the connector on the computer, its it trapezoid shaped with exactly three rows of round openings with exactly five openings (contacts) per row? If so, it is a typical VGA connector. The bad news is that VGA is analog video only and the HDMI connector on your TV only takes serial digital video. There is no simple and inexpensive way to convert from one to the other. If the TV does not have any kind of analog computer video input, you may need at least get a new video controller card that has an HDMI output for your computer.

EDIT: I just reread your post and am now not 100 clear now on what you want to do. Your old fashioned CRT monitor with VGA input will not work with the HDMI output of your computer. If your computer has a DVI output, exactly which of the connector configurations does it have as shown in the following link:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:DVI_Connector_Types.svg

Note: There are people selling fairly inexpensive cables on eBay and on-line stores that have a VGA plug on one end and an HDMI plug on the other. I have no idea what kind of hardware they were designed for but I am 99.999% sure it will not work for your computer's VGA output.

I am looking for a cable that takes component, and stereo audio in on one side, and ends up as a single HDMI connector on the other side, so I can connect my PC to the TV's HDMI port.

At the moment, I use three seperate composite cables, move my PC speakers around as that's what the sound comes out of, and it's a whole lot of hassle and a whole big mess of cables that barely reach.

I've looked all over for a cable that does this, it sounds like something people need, and I can't understand why I can't find it. The closest I have found is this PS3 cable. However the connector on it is some special one for a PS3, not a HDMI one. Or else, it would be absolutely ideal:

I live in the UK, if anyone knows of somewhere that sells what I'm looking for, it would be much appreciated, thanks

So i beg you please to help me, i have tried everything possible, been trying for the last 7 hours and i even downloaded Ultramon but it doenst work either.

I only want them to work in same time, what can i do?

A:HDMI trouble when VGA connected

A lot of laptops do not have the ability to go to more than two monitors (Edit: this is including laptop as monitor). You can probably have both work if you close your laptop lid, otherwise, only the laptop and VGA or laptop and HDMI will work. (Edit: if you close laptop lid, the two monitors VGA and HDMI will work but only with laptop monitor closed)

I think there is a piece of hardware you can purchase that can turn a USB port into and external display adapter, but I don't know if it was GFX card specific or if your card needs or supports a particular piece.

My laptop suffers from this as well. I tried it and confirmed it after seeing issue on this forum a few weeks ago.

the VGA doesn't transfer data signals through digital technology, it uses analog, that's why the picture appears correct on the VGA, the HDMi though uses a technology called HDCP handshaking, the PC needs to handshake the display for it to show the images being encrypted from the desktop, if that handshake doesn't take place then the image will appear scrambled.

I went to plug my Hdmi cable into the motherboards (asrock z77 1155) Hdmi port and it would not fit. There is nthing bent either on the cord or the port. The port looks good nothing broken looking about it at all.

I thought Hdmi cables were all the same size. Is it possible that the port was just made wrong? or is there a slightly smaller Hdmi chord? cause it wasn't off by a big scale it was just enough that it would not go in.

A:HDMI cable wouldn't fit

Sounds like you have a Display Port - looks just like HDMI but not compatible. Check your mobo documentation.

We need to run an HDMI cable through a 1/2 inch round conduit. Obviously the head of the HDMI cable will not fit through it. Is it possible to cut the head off and splice it back in after we run the cable through the conduit? Anyone have any experience cutting and splicing HDMI or adding new heads?

A:Splice HDMI cable.

Here is the pinout.
http://www.interfacebus.com/HDMI_Pinout_Bus.html
As to the possibility, that depends entirely on your skill level in unsplicing the cable, cutting, joining and then laying up the cable in such a manner that the signals do not deteriorate. Given the high sped digital signal, the cable core layup would be best to remain the same.

I would try it, by staggering the joints over several inches to avoid distortion of the cable lay, heatshrinking each and restoring the shielding wherever it existed. But I cannot speak for you, it's not a job for someone unused to "microsurgery" and soldering.

A:Solved: Hdmi cable to tv

Hello over40plus:

If I am understanding your problem correctly, you cannot get your video/audio to play to your TV from your Laptop.

First you need to make sure that your laptop has an HDMI slot in it. If you do not know if it does or not, please post the model of your laptop in a reply.

Second you need to make sure your TV has HDMI input as well (you say it's HDMI ready so I am assuming it does).

If both of these are YES -- Basically, you have to have an HDMI cable. Plug one end from the laptop and the other end into the TV.

After you have done this, make sure that your TV is set to the correct input (HDMI Input you just plugged into on the TV)

You should then see your monitor display on your TV.

If you do not, then you need to look on the Function Keys (F1, F2, F3, F4 etc..) and look for something that says "CRT/LCD" or a picture that resembles a monitor. Usually you have to hold another key in order to select this option, usually it's called "FN" and in a different color other than white (like a blue color)

If I have confused you yet, please post the model of your laptop and I can give you the exact directions to help, if I have yet to confuse you and you have the picture of your monitor on your TV now, good job!

If you want your audio to play from your TV and not your PC, you need to make sure that you have plugged your HDMI cable into a slot that says "HDMI" -- NOT "HDMI/DVI". If it says HDMI/DVI for the input, y... Read more

Hi, I have a new HP laptop, dv7-6175, about 2 months old and a new Rocketfish HDMI cable, about 1 month old. The cable just stopped working, won't stream Netflix to my Samsung HD tv. I hooked up the cable to my older laptop and it works- streams Netflix to my tv. It had been working previously on my new laptop, but then the picture on the laptop began to flicker off and come back on periodically when we were watching Netflix. Yesterday the computer shut down, and when it was re-booted no more streaming at all! I don't know if the cable is bad or if it's the port on the computer. I am able to do everything else on the computer, internet, etc. Thanks! Any help would be appreciated.

have you downloaded the latest video driver from the HP support site
if you goto desktop area and right click - personalise - display
you may have some control there for HDMI under advance setting - depends on the video adapter you have on the PC

Hello All,
My Sony laptop has a VGA slot. I want to connect it to the TV for viewings and sound. I found a Cable that connects from VGA and the other end is HDMI that i can connect to the TV. however I was told i need some sort of TV-BOX between otherwise it wont work?? what does that mean. isnt it enough from VGA to HDMI?? are all vga outlets come standard?? how can i make this work?

Thanks in advance

A:VGA slot to HDMI cable!!!

You can get the HDMI Video signal from an adapter, but you will not have HDMI digital audio. You will have to connect the audio separately from the PC to the TV.

Here is one external device that will take both the VGA video signal and the Analog audio from the PC and convert it to a composite HDMI digital video and audio to connect to a PC. FRYS.com*|*Atlona

Ok so I am thinking of purchasing a DVI to HDMI cable, the DVI connection will come from my graphics card and the HDMI connection will go into my 47" LCD.

At the moment I am using a DVI/VGA adaptor at the back of my graphics card and then using a VGA cable from that into my LCD TV.

So my question is if I were to use the DVI to HDMI cable instead would there be a whole lot of difference in picture quality? Or is it not worth bothering about?

Any information you guys can give or experience on this would be much appreciated!

Is the monitor not supporting the cable? Or is it a Wii U problem?

A:Wii U not showing anything on HDMI - DVI cable

Hi @Keizem, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you have a question about support for a DVI-HDMI cable, with your display. I am happy to help with this. Looking at the Product Specifications, that display has a VGA and DVI-D input. You can always verify the display inputs, if you have a direct VGA -VGA or DVI-D - DVI-D connection to a device that outputs those.   Once you have verified the inputs on your display, it is just a matter of whether the cable you are using is good, and the output from your computer or device is also good. I hope that answers your question, and if it does, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

Hi All,

I'd like to hook-up my computer to TV. I used an HDMI 30 foot cable from my computer to the TV and it didn't work. Cable is fine. How far can usually go?

A$U$ CM#68-70-CA-3AA Desktop PC Intel Core i7 3770(3.40GHz) 16GB DDR3 2TB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce, GT630 2GB, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

I can only assume that there is not enough power in my GeForce630 to send data through to the TV at 30 feet.

Alternative solution?

Thanks, katy

A:How far will an HDMI cable go from Desktop to TV?

Hi Katy,

I'm using a 45ft cable connecting a blu ray player to a projector, no issues whatsoever. I tried it with my pc for gaming through the projector, again no issues.
Quality of cable, gauge, shielding and filtering have a big impact.
A high quality HDMI certified 30 foot cable can get expensive, I know mine did, and you have to buy it without knowing if it is going to work, so it is a bit of a gamble.
I would recommend an active HDMI signal booster, which will probably be cheaper than the new cable, and has very high chances of working with the cable you already have.
There are several options available on Newegg.

Hope this helps,

J

I think I lost the driver for my TV when I was messing with the resolution. It said there was something plugged into the VGA, there was nothing in my VGA slot neither on my computer nor my TV. I restarted my computer, and now none of my video games will open. When I try to open RIFT, it says "Insufficient video card" and I can't play any other high quality graphic games. Before I messed with the resolution and the VGA thing, it worked perfectly fine. I'd like to know if I could get the driver back for my TV. Thanks for any help I get.

A:HDMI Cable not working

Ron,

Are you using a discrete graphics card? Or the mother board graphics? Do you have a monitor attached to the VGA connector at the same time as the HDMI connection?

There may be a setting in your BIOS to enable the HDMI connection, but it doesn't say anything about it in the manual.

Hi, this is kind of a problem p, i currently do not have a monitor so I am using a tv for the time being. I am connecting my desktop to my tv with a hdmi cable and today when I went to go turn it on it came with no signal. I tried switching it off and on, plugging it out and back in but it still did not work. I needed up switching them around so the one that was in the tv was in the desktop and vice versa. Then I was like and I wasn't sure how that fixed it, I am new with desktops and so I'm not that experienced and always worried about everything. If someone can please explain it to me, I will be most grateful, thank you.

A:HDMI Cable Problem

Both ends are the same so it had to be a bad connection. All it takes is a bit of lint or dust on one of 19 pins to disrupt the signal. And the wires inside the cable are VERY small. If the cable gets moved a lot, that can break a wire.

Hi Fantazos, Welcome to Seven forums.

You mentioned that ATI does not see the HDMI cable. Can you let us know what card are you using? Because, Dell E521 itself does not have HDMI port.

Have you updated the drivers for the card you are using? Please update you complete system specs.

I'm a little confused here

I have two monitors, a Samsung S23B350 and a HP 2159m

I tried to connect a DVI-D to HDMI cable to both of my monitors but nothing displays. It doesn't matter what end is connected to the PC, both dont work. But in the long run the DVI end has to be connected to the PC if I want to duel screen because I only have 1 hdmi output.

HDMI-HDMI works fine though, on both monitors.

Is it because it is a DVI-D to HDMI cable? Should I just buy a DVI-D to DVI-D cable? or am I just doing something wrong?

My graphics card is a HD Radeon 6950 if that matters.

A:HDMI - DVI-D cable not working

The HP has DVI-D, HDMI, and VGA. Use a DVI-D cable for this monitor.

The Samsung has HDMI and VGA. Use an HDMI cable for this monitor.

What ports does the video card have? Have you enabled the second monitor in the AMD Catalyst Control Center?
