I have a Dell 1750 Inspiron laptop that I use "as a desktop" as every piece of hardware is connected to it.
It runs with Windows 7 Home Edition. It has a 4gb memory and a 450gb hard drive which is less than half used.
I have the screen saver set to Photos and usually have a cut-in time of 1 hour idle.
The screen saver cuts in exactly when it should and scrolls through my photos for as long as the laptop is left idle.
However, as soon as I touch the mouse/keyboard, instead of reverting to the "normal" screen the photos disappear, the blank screen fades for a few seconds and then a message appears in a box, saying that the Photos Screen Saver is not responding, and gives the options of either close the program or wait for the programme to respond. Waiting doesn't seem to work so I have to click on close the programme and then cancel the statement that Windows will try to find a solution, because it doesn't!
I have tried to vary the time before the screen saver kicks in, anything from 1 minute to several hours but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
Can anyone help please?
Have you checked the timing for when the HDD turns off or Sleep or Hibernation kicks in [I disable both of those and lengthen the time on the HDD to several hours], Control Panel, Power Options?
The reason I mentioned the HDD is the symptoms you mentioned seem to apply. The screen saver could be in memory and not affected by the HDD until it's asked for something.
Vista screen saver wont show photo titles there doesnt appear to be any options to include titles anywhere ...anyone have an idea how to get photo titles to show on a slideshow?
XP shows photo titles as slide show runs
OS Vista Home Premium 64 bit
If I remember correctly, the XP screensaver you are referring to doesn't do that (I don't have an XP machine up and running to verify). And for that matter, I don't think the Vista one works any differently (odds are, I'm seeing the same thing as you in my 32bit version of Home Premium, and the closest I see in the settings for that screensaver are 'tagging' options, which I'm pretty sure won't do what you're asking for ).
Are you sure you're not mistaking it for a third party screensaver perhaps? I know Google's Photo Screensaver lists details like that.
XP Service Pack 3
Screensaver is enabled and so is 'Display welcome screen when coming back from screensaver'.
This works most of the time, however on a regular basis the screensaver will resume to the following screen and just stay there forever.
The only thing to do is to press the power button, at which point a popup alerts that a user is logged in, do you still want to shut down.

Hello all, with vista, I use the Windows Photos Screen saver. However, in the settings if I use any other theme besides "classic", the screensaver will not close when I move the mouse or hit the keyboard, it just sticks there. The system isnt frozen, I can can ctrtl-alt-delete out of it and everything is fine. It is just kind of annoying. Anyone experienced this?
I have a photoscreensaver error that reads as follows:
Photoscreensaver.scr Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point DwmHintDxUpdate could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll
It comes on when the screensaver starts, I have go no screen saver organised, the screen just goes black, then when I move the mouse the black screen goes and the above is in a box. It is possibly related to a rolling wallpaper I am using from my photos folder.
Has anybody got any ideas? Ultimate 64bit RTM
Do any other screen savers work?
My system Froze up and went to a black screen; upon reboot it wouldn't get past the BIOS load screen. I reset the CMOS and now everything works fine except an issue with the photo screen saver. The other screen savers work, but the photo screen saver will not. When I try to go into settings with the photos screen saver selected it looks like it loads something but nothing pops up, and then the screen saver window becomes unusable. It doesn't freeze but it acts like there is a second dialog box open and it's waiting for you to finish with that dialog box (if you know what I mean). I can't preview with photos selected either, but it doesn't become unusable.
I would be more concerned with what caused the major crash than little problem with the photo ss.
For that you can try running
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
If you can find a c:\windows\minidump folder and zip the contents of it and attach it to your next post that would be great.
If there's nothing in there or the folder doesn't exist nevermind, I'm just curious what caused the hard reset.
i was wondering does anyone know of a good screensaver program, which is free and doesnt involve and trial periods?
im looking one that you can use your own pictures from a file, like family pictures
thanks to anyone that helps
I'm pretty sure that there is slideshow screensaver built into windows.
This one works too.
Is there something built into Windows 7 that will do a screen saver of a library of photos, yet use *both* displays to show multiple photos? There are a couple in there, but they only seem to work on the primary display. Is there a way to enable multiple displays for these?
I have a nice 3rd party app I purchased in the XP days that does this, but was wondering if there was a way to get 7 to do it natively.
Hy there... I attemped to develope a pice of software that exposes pictures on the second display.... it is not the best but i think it might be useful to you.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfGfbCMHw7M
Note: it displays only on the right monitor arrangement like so ( 1-->2 )
and not ( 2<--1) or( 1 )
( 2 )

Hello RDONSTEELE, and welcome to Vista Forums.
Double check to see if you have the C:\Windows\System32\PhotoScreensaver.scr file.
If you don't have it, I'll upload a clean copy for you.
Anyone know any good programs for making screensavers from photos (i.e., using JPEGS saved on the puter). Something with lots of options and cool effects. I would prefer a program I could try first before buying.

New Gateway Laptop
Like mentioned above the Clock Time is always off upon startup by a few hours and although all settings for the screen saver seem to be appropriate, the screen saver fails to activate by timer. Have yet to see it.
Would there be anything that may be conflicting with those settings?
The screensaver is based on either mouse movement or HD idle time...make sure that nothing is needing to run while you are waiting for the screensaver (antivirus, etc)
If it's a new Gateway that you have, I would contact their support on your time issue. It could be a bad install, could be an issue with your bios clock, or other issues.
had this issue once before when i installed a wireless mouse, do not recall the exact fix, but i have goggled and check all program conflict possibilities..none exist that i can find.
the posts that i can find here are quite dated.
This is a Gearhead optical wireless nano mouse model mp2600BLU their support claims it is plug and play no additioanl driver is needed.
The problem seems to have started after i replaced the batteries in it.

Just recently, within the last couple days, my screen saver has decided not to work. It has always worked without any problem before, and im not sure why it decided to stop.
I've checked everything that i know with my knowledge, but it seems fine.
A couple possibilities are that when i did a google search on this problem, i found a post saying something about editing the screen saver file in C:\WINDOWS, but i notice that i dont have that file.
I dont know if the file was always never there, or maybe it was deleted somehow.
Another possibility is that there is a program running in the background, but i dont think that is the case because its the same programs running when it worked before.
Thanks in Advance
Well it might be a dumb suggestion, but if you don't have the "screensaver file" (whatever THAT is) where it's supposed to be, maybe that's why it's not working.
So then MAKE one, maybe.
Post a link to the site that talks about the screensaver file and maybe we can make you one to fix it. Or something.
Have you gone to the XP setting from Desktop>Properties ? It has a timer on it so it starts after a certain amount of inactivity. Did this change ?
Can you do the "Preview" ?
This is a new one for me. My friends monitor doesn't wake up when its in screen saver mode. Have ran AdAware and Spybot. I have also looked for anything funny in the properties to adjust the screen saver and power settings. I have found nothing unusual there. My friend was running an aquarium screen saver. But when changed to a windows screen saver, it did the samething again after a while. She has to shut down the PC at the power button to get her desktop back.

i have just freshly formateed and re-installed Windows 7 on my pc inorder to find whymy sleep and screen saver/timeouts are not working.
i havve tried to trouble shoot it, and come up with nothing. it is currently a bare bones system, with windows, MoBo Drivers and latest windows updates. that it. and it still wont work.
command prompt gives this
C:\Windows\system32>powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
Intel(R) 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
HID Keyboard Device
it is currently installing some updates, but that shouldnt effect the screen saver comming on.
any other sugestions on what i can try to find out what is stopping it from working?
i have also just tried a different KB and Mouse. still wont enter screen saver. but if i click preview, it works there, so there is nothing on that side stopping it. task manager shows system idle process at 99% and im not to sure what to look for in process monitor to see what could be causing it.1 more replies
The screen saver and power settings will not engage. I set to turn off monitors in 1 minute and even if i leave for a hour they are still on. Same with screen saver.
I came across powercfg and ran
and it showed
[DRIVER] Realtek High Definition Audio (HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0889&SUBSYS
An audio stream is currently in use.
Okay, so even though I don't have any audio playing, it seems like the Realtek driver is causing the system to basically reset the timer. I tried to disable it by invoking the powercfg device disable wake argument and i get a permissions issue.
powercfg -DEVICEDISABLEWAKE "Realtek High Definition Audio"
You do not have permission to enable or disable device wake.
The issue is that I have ran CMD as administrator and am logged in as an administrator. I am running the latest version of Realtek driver for Windows 7, why would this happen? suggestions on getting this resolved?
uninstalled realtek drivers to just run windows drivers. didnt fix it.

I am aware of the Screen Saver setup and modify capabilities in the Personalization menu. I am also aware that there is a Preview button there also.
There is a program in the Windows system files that you can put on the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen. You can then click this Icon and manually start the Screen Saver.
I however (in my infinite stupidity) have forgotten the name of this program and where it is located. Can someone please tell me what its name is and where it is located?

I am running a dual screen setup now, just doing some trial and error to see what I like. I want to have the Windows Live Photo Gallery run on both screen earthier simontaneously or back and forth. Currently all I can get it to do is run the screen saver on the primary monitor and the secondary is black. Any suggestions or programs I can get to runs a screensaver photos dual?
As far as I know, you can’t really do this with the Windows screensavers, sorry.
I did an upgrade from Win 7 , and Screen Saver / Turn off display after 5 mins was working under Win 7 64 bit
As my title suggest Screen Saver / Lock screen Slideshow / Turn off display after 5 mins are not working under Win 10
The Lock screen Slideshow is there when Win 10 starts but only shows ONE image, never moves to another.
THINGS I've done so far to get any of these working ...Screen Saver / Lock screen Slideshow / Turn off display after 5 mins
I’ve turned off all the Wake on lan functions
Tried different folder/ images for the lockscreen Slideshow ,window spotlight and picture
Tried to set new power options , was able to get SLEEP to show up in "Start" as it was not there before, but once click , the display DID turn off, but wouldn’t turn back on with mouse movement keyboard presses, had to do a hard reboot. Win 10 started without issue and the SLEEP mode was no longer aviable via the power "start" menu.
Anyone have a clue how to get all of these working. Really would like my display to turn off after 5 mins , and the Screen saver to work , the Lockscreen I'm not fussed about
A friend of mine had viruses/spyware on his computer that, along with other things, changed his welcome screen to the classic windows logon. Well, I cleaned the system for him but the welcome screen is not back. I check in the user accounts in the control panel and the check boxes are set in the "uses windows welcome screen" and "fast user switching". The system shows clean from malwarebytes, kapersky, bitdefender and mcaffee but still no welcome screen on startup. Just the classic prompt for username and password.
Any ideas on what to look for next? Is there aservice needed for the welcome screen or perhaps a file that is missing that it needs?
Thanks for the help!!
Nevermind guys. I figured it out. The logonui.exe file was renamed to logonui.exe.manifest
In case this was done buy one of the antivirus programs because it was infected, I deleted it and copied over the logonui file from the service pack directory. All is workning now.

Hibernation in it self saves everything thats in RAM at the time the system is put into that mode. It should not lock the PC as that wasn't the state it was in before it hibernated. perhaps lock the PC before you push the hibernate button!

Log On Screen Saver - Enable or Disable
Hello ZMan, and welcome to Seven Forums.
You will not be able to have a slideshow with the logon screen saver. As in the tutorial, it can only be a blank black screen if enabled. Anything else, and you get that message in the NOTE box at the top of the tutorial.
This is what someone else wrote in another topic: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/741250-windows-warning-message-win32-adware.html
"I booted my computer up today, and saw my background wasn't available anymore. Then I see the message, "Warning! Spyware detected on your computer! Install an antivirus or spyware remover to clean your computer". It says that Win32/Adware.Virtumonde and Win32/PrivacyRemover.M64 are on my computer."
I had the exact same problem but i followed the instructions that someone posted in that topic, these were the instructions posted by "drdrew1469":
"I just got through fixing this (I hope). What it did here was change the background and set the screensaver to the sysinternals bluescreen screensaver (which you may be seeing) while at the same time setting policies in the registry to disable the two aforementioned tabs in the Display properties window.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System \NoDispBackgroundPage and [same]\NoDispScrSvrPage (they are both set to 1. Delete both entries.
Then check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run for any funky alphanumeric filenames (I'm pretty sure it's just a random string anyway so posting the string probably won't help you much). Delete these keys and the associated file(s). (Doesn't hurt to check msconfig either, but I found nothing there)."

I have set up my Win 7 Pro 64-bit screen saver to bring up the password logon screen upon activation of the mouse/keyboard/whatever.
Late last week, whenever I moved the mouse or clicked the keyboard, the screensaver would go directly to the desktop, bypassing the logon screen. I went to the screensaver utility and unchecked and rechecked the 'On resume, display the logon screen' box, selecting 'Apply and OK' each time.
This would work for maybe two or three times and then go back to returning to the desktop.
I've run MalwareBytes, IOBit, and Norton and all come up virus/rootkit free.
There are a few seconds of "grace" time, meaning when the screensaver launches you have a few seconds to "wake it" and go back to your desktop without locking it.
I guess I can assume you're not talking about that, right?
Hello everyone, would you mind helping me with this minor issue I've been having while playing halo, its been doing it since I've installed it, if you can't help, that's understandable to. Whenever I minimize my game of halo, I can't bring it back up for some reason. It'll show in the upper left hand corner Halo, but it wont come up, I wait forever, and it never comes up, so I end up, closing it out, and ending the game. At first I tried to get used to it, but sometimes my screen will minimize because of updates, and other stuff, and its really annoying because I can't bring back up my game of halo. I tried reinstalling it, but it would still do the same thing, if you can figure out something to fix this, that would be great!
John, does this happen when you alt-tab as well? Or just when the game minimizes itself to install updates?4 more replies
When I leave my computer on and walk away from it, the screensaver comes on, then after a few minutes the screensaver disappears and the screen goes black and it stays that way. I move the mouse, hit alt/ctrl/del on my keyboard and cannot get it to "wake up". I end up having to power down and restart every time. Been this way for months now...figured it was time to ask and see if anyone had any tips for me. I have winXP.

I have a very strange problem, I'm stumped and would appreciate any help.
On my new HP6910 laptop, when my XP Pro SP3 (system default XP) Screen Saver comes on, the screen has a partial heavily corrupted copy of the bottom taskbar at the top of the screen (!) and when I ctrl-alt-delete and enter my password the taskbar at the bottom is missing all of its text but otherwise looks reasonable. The Oulook, Word, and other started tasks in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen have their icons, just no text, even if there is a group of them and you hover the mouse over the group and they expand. Most of them still work, but Windows Desktop Search (WDS) doesn't work and I have to close them and restart them. This seemed to start a few days after I installed WDS, added a DVI monitor to the docking station and the same day I installed Activesync 4.5. I've reinstalled WDS and removed my wallpaper but this didn't help, I'm about to reinstall Activesync but it takes a few hours to sync for the first time so I thought I would see if anybody had any other ideas before doing this.
All help is greatly appreciated!

I am having a very wierd issue with vista's screen saver. So basically when I leave the comp idle it goes into screen saver then turns off the monitor after 15 mins. Sometimes, more often than not, I come back and move the mouse and hit a few keys on the keyboard and nothing. The monitor wont come out of standby I try turning it off and back on, and nothing. It is probably running at startup. Go to start > run and type in msconfig and enter. Go to the startup tab and uncheck the item for it listed there.
While the Windows 7 desktop background pictures fill the screen, the screen saver photos do not.
Is there a way to have the latter fill the screen as well?
Welcome Rambling One,
Are your pictures big enough to fill the screen? I can get mine to fill the screen but the pictures I'm using are also Wallpaper size.
Hi, first post here by a rather happy Lenovo Yoga 13 + Windows 8 user.
As the topic says, is it possible to have the lockscreen turn on automatically after a few minutes?
As it is now I can only get to the lock screen after waking up the computer from the screen saver. I would like to have it configured so that the traditional screen saver is bypassed and it goes straight to the lock screen and stays there forever until I swipe it up.
I think the lockscreen is a very beautiful feature and it's great to see all these small notifications. It would be wonderful to just be able to glance at my computer and seeing these notifications without actually having to touch it.
I feel it's kind of useless to only see the lock screen while you're actually logging in, because then you'll see your notifications anyway on your start screen.
The easiest way is to right click your account icon on top right of Start Screen and Lock it.
Don't know of a way to auto lock.
Screen saver works on each profile.
Screen saver will Not activate at lock screen or login screen.
Have used gpedit.msc to enable screen saver and to set screen saver time out.
have resorted to sleeping my monitor after 5min.
I would like to use the screen saver instead.
Slowly but surly I am getting the system up and running...now we are in the fine tuning stage...
I now have the screen saver working, but there is one slight catch, after the screen saver has been on for a while and I move the mouse, the screen clears and what is left behind is the log on logo and I have to click on that to get back to the primary screen,
How do not have to go to the log off screen and just continue with my screen/window that I was on before the screen saver kicked in.
There is a checkbox in the screensaver settings that needs to be unchecked, see image below.

I'm looking for a software that allows me to see a picture (jpg, etc...) in full screen but at the same time that I can have at half screen able to for example use Word 2013 at the same time
When I use Windows Photo Viewer the only way to see a picture full screen is playing the slide show and then pressing pause so that the pic does not change, but when I have it at half screen the rest of the screen is black I cannot have my screen with another program to write on there.
which pic software may allow that?
I'm not looking for advanced photo programs because I don't want to edit the pic just to see it in full screen.
To start, there is a difference between the Maximize/Restore button in the middle of the 3 at top right corner of windows and the feature of Full Screen gained by toggling the F11 key on most computers. Using Full Screen allows viewing but not toolbars, Taskbar, etc. One way of getting part of what you want is to have two windows/programs open and right-click the Taskbar to choose how the windows are displayed. Clicking in the middle of the image windows to get the focus on it then pressing F11 should show the image plus it wouldn't affect the other program. It probably would work better if using a 23" or larger monitor or using 2 monitors, splitting the tasks between them.9 more replies

When I'm connected to the Internet, I get the black screen with the Windows XP logo flitting about if I've been innactive for 2 mins. Can I correct it?
Only when connected to the internet?
Right click empty desktop.
Properties>Screensaver - Check what you have it set to.
Power schemes>always on.
Turn off monitor>never.
Turn off hard disks>never.
I need help ASAP. My computer was having many issues today, so I did a system restore. When it was done, it downloaded updates, I only restored it back to yesterday. Now, when I log into my account, the screen stays black and all I see is the pointer. What can I do to solve this? The PC is shut down right now.
Usually, system restore is used to resolve problems like this. You might want to consider doing a clean install and see if that has any affect. Hopefully your data is saved on an external or flash drive. There's also additional options that you can find here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Resolving-stop-blue-screen-errors-in-Windows-7

Hi people, i've just registered to this forum to ask you about this, Since i've made a registry defrag with TuneUp Utilities (which probably has gone wrong), when i reset the computer, and I logon to my user, it shows a black screen, then back at the logon screen. If I do it again, the user doesn't show up anymore!
It happened three times already, i had to make new users, and i'm sick of it. Any ideas of what could it be?
Yet another case of registry defraggers causing harm. In the future, you know now to stay far away from them.
I suggest a system restore to get to a point before TuneUp utilities. If that doesn't work, it will be time for a repair install.
I have Win7 Ultimate x64 installed on an brand new HP Pavilion s5-1205z Slimline desktop.
When I am reading an email or document the screen will just suddenly flash to a black screen for a second. Sometimes it does this several times in a row, and other times just once or twice. It is random and does not matter what program I am in, if I am browsing, playing a video on-line, or typing. I have installed Java and done as much troubleshooting as I can and can't find anything that relates to that kind of behavior at all in the Help Files or FAQ's.
Any suggestions of where I might look to see if I need to check or uncheck something, and what, would be very much appreciated.
Combining the info that you posted here with the info in this thread - I gotta wonder if someone is able to remote into your computer. If you are not too far along in setting up your computer, you might want to consider a clean install without all of the bloatware.
Unless you have a specific need for Java - uninstall it. If you need it, then it might be worth the security risk of having it installed. If you don't need it - then why risk having it installed?
I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro. Everytime or almost everytime I click on an app or go to the desktop and try to get on IE 10 (desktop version), my screen flashes and goes black for a few seconds then returns me to the screen with the space needle, then I click on it and it signs me back in. When I try to use Google Chrome, the websites freeze up on me. I don't want to have to reinstall/reformat as I paid $40 for this for one, and secondly, I don't want to have to repurchase Office 2010 as my licenses ran out. Please help. I ran every update that comes up and restart, but this doesn't change this issue. I'm hoping there will be a patch or service pack or some update that will fix this. Any ideas why it does this and any way to fix it without reformatting?
I had the same problem at first. Then one day the listing of all my apps disappeared. I did a refresh and lost a lot of programs but the files were still there. Then I noticed that the problem with the apps had fixed itself and they worked. My feeling is that the initial install wasn't complete and the refresh completed the install. Recently, after loading my Epson printer's CD, the apps once again disappeared. Had to do a system restore. Now I am having trouble with my screen just being black and not coming on at all...even after a reboot. Win8 has a lot of problems.2 more replies
My friend has two drives in his computer.........one is the boot drive with windows 7 as the OS and the other is the one he stores all his photographs on and other data.
How can the screen saver for windows 7 use photographs direct from the storage hard drive? or will he have to copy all his photographs onto his boot drive to facilitate this.
Thanking you in anticipation of your help.
RIGHT click an empty spot on the desktop.Choose Personalize.Choose Screensaver.Click the drop down arrow under Screensaver, select Photo Gallery.A preview will be shown in the box. Since this will be from the default setting, pictures on the C drive, he will need to click Settings/Browse in order to choose the storage drive pictures folder. After he does that, click Save.If he does not want to use all the photos, he can create a folder and copy the photos he does want to use to that folder. He can then navigate to that folder using the method I described.5 more replies

Normally when my computer is idle for about 10 minutes the screen saver will come on and then shortly after the screen saver with stop and and the screen will go dark, like it should, and the computer will go to sleep. But since last night that has not been happening. the screen saver does not come on and after maybe 20 minutes or so, the screen goes dark and the computer goes to sleep.
Try a system restore to before the problem started. If that doesn't help, you might try this fix from kellys-korner. Scroll down to line 51, ScreenSaver Disable/Enable. Instructions to run VBS Files at top of web page.
How can I find my screen saver, I want to install a new installation of xp on my computer. But, I want to save the screen saver.
Files for your screen saver could be all over the place there is a place that part of the screen saver is or might be located but the best way to get your screen saver if you do not have the original file is the manufacturer's site that made the screen saver.
The one way you can start to find it would be to do a search for scr this is the extension for the screen saver but when you find it do a right click on it then properties and look for the web site address for the file.
I wish you good luck.
I have recently started to use a new download program (EMUSIC), which then sends the download to the share file, when this proceedure ends I find that my screen saver has been switched off, is this a serious mal function? ( I also use another download program KAZALITE which does not cause any problem)
I have my new laptop set to go to screen saver after 1 minute of inactivity and password protected (you know, to keep people out of it when I walk away). I am noticing that it will start to go into screen saver, and then stop. I went to lunch and came back an hour later and no screen saver. Any thoughts??

Gateway 675XL 1mb ram. About 2 weeks ago, my screen saver quit working. Can't find any programs interfering with it, nor did I change anything. Now it will not come up at the allotted time. Any suggestions!
You may need to go to Control Panel and then Power Options and increase (or set to never) the settings to turn off monitor.
U might need to Run System Restore, which enables the system to go back to a date before U had a problem. Everyone forgets about the most popular fix. Is simply running System Restore, which seems to undo just about anything for most folks.
I use my pictures as a screen saver, but it won't ever turn off, I don't want it to sleep because it takes to long to boot up again, any other suggestions? I have Vista. I didn't have this problem with windows xp. I want into prefrences and just told it when to stop the screen saver.
I don't really understand what it is you want, I have my Pictures folder as the Screen Saver and it is set to activate after 10 mins of the computer being idle all other power savings are set to Never, whenever I want to use the computer again it's just a question of moving the mouse and the monitor is back to what it was either the desktop or if I left a program or forum open it would be back to that.28 more replies
Hi there. I had at one time tested the XP picture slideshow screen saver in Windows 7 (32 bit edition). I bought a new computer, which runs Windows 7 64 bit. Where do I copy the .scr file to make it work? Will the XP picture slide show run with not problem?
I do not like Windows 7 picture slide show. It is not flexible enough; doesn't allow any settings.
Sorry we're getting to this so late. I hope you've found a solution by now, but if not -- what specific settings did you want to modify in the Picture Slideshow? There might be a workaround.
Also, what level of success did you have running an XP Picture Slideshow in Windows 7 32-bit?

I have Windows XP. I noticed recently that my screen saver is not kicking in after the required time I have entered (30 minutes). I read something about a dialog box for SP1 or SP2 for Windows XP. Unless there is some window open or application running that I am not aware of, there is no dialog box running. Any suggestions. I've run a hijack log if it's needed.
I have seen a wireless Microsoft USB mouse cause this issue before.
Had me stumped for a long time too!
Do you have a wireless USB mouse? If so, unplug it and try a $5 standard PS/2 mouse. I bet it works then

It used to run indefinitely until I moved the mouse etc. Now runs for about 25 seconds then returns to a live screen.
Anyone know why this is happening?
Could be a number of things.... Mouse is over sensitive? Software 'waking' the machine?
Mine does it now and again, never really bothered me tbh.
Is it necessary to use a screen saver when you're going to be away for awhile or can you just use the power setting to shut off monitor after 20 minutes. Which is better? I heard that screen savers use a lot of resources. Thanks. Dori
Screen savers were developed to protect older CRT monitors from "burn in." They are unnecessary for modern monitors. Even for the older CRTs, a blank screen was fine, except that they did not have the power saving options we now have.
So, yes, using the power settings for the monitor to save power is best.
Can anybody tell me if its possible to make a screen saver from a cd? I have this Xmas scene and it plays so this is Xmas and would love to add it to my screen saver. If anybody knows how I can go about doing this please help me out. thank you
Did a quick freeware search, and came up with a few options, for Screensaver authoring programs.I haven't used any of these, so I can't vouch for their ease of use, or effectiveness. These use images to make a slideshow style screensaver:Your Own ScreenSaverPhoto SaverSaver ForgeThumbsPlus ScreensaverThese convert Flash into screensavers. You would have to convert you videos to Flash, to be able to use these:FlashForgeScreenSwiftInstantStormSwiff SaverThis one looks like you can use video (AVI, MPEG, ASF, ASX, WMV, WMX), images (BMP, JPEG, GIF, WMF, ICO), formatted text documents, sound files (WAV, MIDI, MP3, WMA), Macromedia Flash, simple text, and other multimedia files. This looks like it would be, your best option.MaxMedia Light EditionIf you find one that works, to your satisfaction, please, let us know about it.You can add it to the Freeware Replacements For Common Commercial Apps topic. There might be others looking for such a program, and your input could prove helpful, to them.3 more replies
How do you simply add a screen saver in 2K. There is no add on the sreensaver tab in the display utliity. The file I want to add has a .scr extension.
Copy it to the winnt\system32 folder. As long as it does not need any additional dll files, it should run. Select the screensaver in the normal manner.
When I am in Half Life and I step away... My skreen saver kickz in az it should. When I return to play, I move the mouz to WAKE UP my rig, but when I do, I get an MP3 song to play...
I think for the few timez I have noticed, it iz da SAME SONG...
I do NOT want to delete the song, nor stop screen saver...
I go to Task Manager and I do not see WinAmp Playing and evryteeng ELZE iz normal...
What kan I dooz???
I'm trying to put my personal photo's on my laptop as a slideshow. I've copied them in to "My Pictures" but when I go in to Control Panel>Display>Screen saver>My Picture Show says "no pictures found in C:/Documents & Settings/All Users/Documents/My Pictures/Etc/Etc." How can I get my pictures in to this path? I can't find the same path in my C: drive. I can only follow it to "other users" then instead of "Documents" it has "shared documents, shared pictures, etc." Thanks - Chuck
You should be able to put them in any folder. On the Screensaver tab select My Pictures Slideshow, then click the settings button and browse to the folder you put them in.
Ok i'm hoping this is an easy fix but i cant seem to get it. Every time i lock my computer then walk away i come back and the screen savor isn't on. I've tried setting it lower to see if it comes on and it never dose and also my monitor never shuts off either when locked and idle.
have you tried preview to see if it works that way
The screen saver is not working,
when we go to the screen saver setting - there is a message - "The screen saver can't run because it requires a newer video card or which require Direct 3D"
But it was working a day ago.
Here are some items to check:
What graphics card do you have?Do you have a wireless mouse or keyboard? If so make sure it has they have the latest drivers installed.Have the latest graphics driver installed for it.Refresh or update your WEI score.
Is it just that screen saver, or is it all screensavers including the default one from Vista?
Hope this helps for now,
I just had my dell computer fixed and now my screen saver will not come on.. it takes about fourty or fifty minutes before the screen saver comes on.. it just sits there with the walpaper showing.. can you help.. I have a dell demensions 8250 and am running windows xp home.. thank you .. Chortee1
O.K. try this. Go to control panel, display. Click on screensaver tab. See what the time is set for. You can change the amout of time before the screen saver will click on. Do not forget to click on the apply button or it will go back to the original setting.
Okay, sounds silly, but after multiple attempts to activate my screen saver on my new HP p6649c running Win7 with an ATI Radeon HD4200 graphics card, I can't activate it.
I've rebooted multiple times. I've reset the screen saver settings multiple times, clicked on "apply" and "OK" and no dice. I've set the options to my own pictures as well as the default screen saver images. I have also checked the power management settings but they appear normal. Nothing seems to affect it so the monitor just sits with my desktop on perpetually.
Are there some settings on the monitor itself I should modify?
I removed your other post. Do not post multiple threads for the same problem.
Next when you set a screensaver, are you using an account with admin priv?
What pw management have you selected ie balanced, high performance, or a custom one?
I can't get my computer to run a screen saver, went thru all the steps and hit apply but ti still won't come up......arrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhh!.........is this a vista problem???
See if information in this article helps.
The screen saver does not work when you use a Microsoft wireless pointing device on a Windows Vista-based computer
