Hello kslim,

You should be able to use step 5 or step 7 in Option Two below to set the folder's attribute to hide.

I have a problem in retrieving files and folders that I hid. Folders and files are still hidden even after I clicked the radio button in front of show hidden files and folders in the view menu under folder option window. I suspect that this is due to the same virus which has infected already also causing drives to disolay "open with" window when double clicked it. I was opening my drives through Windows explorer instead. But I still need the double click option. Is there a way to remove this virus and to get my PC back to the original healthy state. Unfortunately I have not created a restore point recently. It would be a great help if somebody can supply a solution for this.

A:Problem in Hidden Folder option

If you have a virus, scan with your AV and remove it. Use another online scan, just to be sure, like TrendMicro. And since most bad guys are not viruses, you also need to scan with at least 2 anti-malware programs.

Free anti-malware scanners:
A-Squared
Spybot S&D
RunScanner
Ad-Aware 2007
SuperAntiSpyware
Spyware Eliminator
Emco Malware Destroyer
Spyware Doctor
Arovax Anti-spyware
Trend-Micro Rootkit Buster
F-Secure Blacklight
Bootzilla (Bootable anti-malware CD with many other tools.)
List of freeware security software

Hi, guys.

After my pc has been infected by the "bagle prague" (hldrrr/wintems/flec006/srosa) i got cleaned by a software called Regrun. But the malwares have left some problems on my pc. The main problem is : In Control Panel / Folder option / View, i canīt find the options related to "show hidden files". In this forum there is a solution already posted, but it didnīt solve my problem.
The member says to go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden]
and change the value into "group" My problem is : I do not have this last folder in the registry line ("hidden").
I mean, there is [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder] and in this folder ("folder") thereīs no "hidden" folder. So I canīt change the value of "hidden" īcause thereīs no "hidden". Help me please, thanks.

Hi,

I've created a batch file containing the xcopy command to copy the entire partitioned drive to a folder on an external hard drive. However, when it is executed it works fine but the destination folder, called Backup, becomes a hidden system folder. Does any one know why this is the happening. I'm performing the xcopy on my parents computer, which is on win7.
Code is as follows:

REM This copies the intire H drive (Laptop Parition) to G drive (Segatemega Drive)
xcopy H:\ G:\Backup /D /E /C /R /I /K /Y

Cheers

A:xcopy - destination folder becomes a hidden system folder - why?

Not my forte but I believe adding the attribute to remove hidden and system would work. Not sure about the syntax, but since you seem to have a handle on it, something like:

xcopy H:\ G:\Backup /D /E /C /R /I /K /Y
attrib -h -s G:\Backup

I am not sure if this is a virus, spyware or malware. My internet searches pull what I am looking for, but clicking on my findings takes me to the wrong place. I have tried google and yahoo searches.

I have a pretty good feeling it has to do with the contents of this folder...

C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

If I use CCleaner, McAfee virus scan, or Adaware they all freeze when they reach this folder. If I simply browse to the folder it causes Explorer.exe to crash, the pc freezes momentarily and then is seemingly back to normal. I have tried all of the above in safe mode with the same results. I also attempted to log in as another user and delete/edit/browse to the folder and I again get the same result.

My system restore also seems to be effected as anytime I try to fall back to a previous restore point it fails.

HELP

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to TSG....

To download HJTsetup.exe from SpyKiller To Download HijackThis go to the following at the File Repository
Click on the button for Download to the right of HijackThis Self Installer:

http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exe

Save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialog boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialog.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialog box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit Edit then Select All then click Edit and then click Copy doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet....
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply. DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
A security expert with a gold shield to the right of their name should take a look at your log - please be patient.

Apparently there are folders that I just can't see!

In searching for where my captured video files were, my search function aimed me at c:\documents and settings\all users\documents\my videos. When I looked in c:\documents and settings\all users, there is no 'documents' folder!

I went through the process of changing my folder options - I had already checked 'show hidden folders', but unchecked 'hide extentions for known file types' and clicked 'apply to all folders', but it still doesn't appear.

Am I missing something or is this normal for Windows XP?

A:Hidden Folder? Help

Hello Sophie,

What is it exactly that you're trying to do? The link you posted - www.spicerhallfield.co.uk/Montage_Vista.exe - is for a download, rather than being the name of a folder you'd expect to find on your computer.

However, to display hidden folders, go into your control panel and double-click on the Folder Options icon. (If using Vista, change the control panel view to Classic.)

In the Folder Options box, click on the View tab. Under Files and Folders is a subheading, called Hidden files and folders. Select "Show hidden files and folders," click "OK," and you should be good to go.

Alright so here's the prob...

First off I've got vista home premium, and there's this folder, named "!", in my user directory that I can't see, and I already chose to display hidden files and folders. The path is supposed to be C:\Users\myname\! and I have proven it exists because when I try and create a new folder named "!" in my user directory, it says that this folder already exists, and gives me the option to merge it.

Once I merge it, it dissapears. I've tried opening command prompt and typing "DEL C:\Users\myname\!\" and it asks me am I sure, and I put "Y" and hit enter. After hitting enter the blinking line goes down one space and I can't type anything or do anything further, I have to close command prompt.

I'm stumped
Thanx in advance for any help.

A:A TRULY hidden folder

The only mention I can find about a folder with an exclamation point is having to do with an ipod and/or itunes. Do you have either one?

Hi guys.
I recently installed the program my lockbox. For those unfamiliar with it, its a piece of free software that hides a selected folder on the user's computer and only displays it after a passowrd is input.

My problem is when I tried removing it, i had some problems and it didnt uninstall properly. The program locks the folder by default unless a password is entered. So even after the uninstall I still cant access the folder.

Any idea?

Have you tried deleting the Internet Explorer History? If that doesn't work, you could always try My Computer. Also you could try going into the folder that your hidden folder is in, click on Tools>>Folder Options, go to view and check "Show Hidden Files and Folders". This will allow you to see the folder and browse its contents. Just make sure you change the setting back otherwise the folder will be able to be seen.

Why not just search for crashdumps? the %localappdata% means C:\users|your user name\local\appdata\crashdumps. You will also have to check make all folders/files visible in cpanel

If you are looking for DMP files created when your computer crashed they wont be there.

About a week ago I was fooling around with the attrib command in the cmd prompt.

I went in and did something like attrib +s +h /s /d
in order to make the folder and all the subfolders and files hidden.

Recently, I went to unhide everything using something along the lines
attrib -s -h /s /d

everything becomes unhidden, except for one folder and all of its contents.

I get the error:

access denied - the folder

When I try changing the ownership of the previous folder that contains the hidden folder that won't unhide, I get the error:

"an error occurred while applying security information to"

I'd really like to either access this folder, or delete it. I tried in safe mode, and I still have no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi.
Hopefully you can help.
I am a regular user of Winmend Folder Hidden. Love it. Great piece of software.
Just the other day I had to recover the contents of a USB pen drive, that I could no longer access, as it was showing as 'RAW'.
I used recovery software (M3RawDriveRecovery) to recover the folders & files to my PC.
I took some time but I managed to recover the folders & files.
I had folders & files on the USB drive that were hidden, using Winmend Folder Hidden.
When I was using the recovery software I could see my Winmend hidden files seemingly being recovered.
What I am left with now (on my PC) is a folder, titled 'Winmend~Folder~Hidden'. If I click on that I just get a folder named '...'
When I look at the properties tab of the folder titled 'Winmend~Folder~Hidden' it shows me that there are 257 folders...which sounds correct, in terms of the amount I had hidden, using WinMend Folder Hidden.
So I am wondering if there is any way I could possibly recover these folders & files?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
David

We have two fairly new vista 64sp1 machines. We are using a monitor cal program that on one machine will write the color profile to the system32/spool/drivers/color directory without a problem. The program on the other machine will not. I can browse from the cal programs and on one machine I can see the spool directory and the other I can't. Though I can see most of the other folders in system32.

The other clue is I can see the spool directory with WINDOWS explorer on both machines. But with INTERNET explorer 7 I can only see the spool directory on the good machine. I can also see the spool directory with programs like Thunderbird on one machine, but not the other. But programs like notepad are ok on both.

The spool folder permissions appear to be the same on both and I have tried unhiding folders and even superhidden folders with no luck. I have also tried running the program as admin and compatibility modes. I have spent two days trying to fix this and if anyone has an idea how to fix this it would be great.

Thanks,
Ed

A:Another hidden folder puzzle, I think.

Let me rephrase this. Why on both machines would I be able to use explorer, notepad etc., and see the system32\spool folder,
But when I use Internet Explorer, Thunderbird and my calibration program to open a file and browse to the system32 directory the spool folder is missing only on one machine?

Both have Vista64 sp1 with all the updates?

Thanks

Hello:  I wanted to delete every fragment of AVG TuneUp, and thought I had done so, both with manual means and via the tool they claim removes everything.  I ran a scan recently to check if all my stuff was up to date, and voila, a component of AVG is still there.  Furthermore, I ran a FRST scan to see where it's located and it's in a hidden folder (not cool). Tried to research how to unhide it and nothing works.  I don't want to venture into FRST fixlist territory or the registry because I don't know what I'm doing.  Thanks for any guidance.   Windows 8.1 by the way.

is there any program or something like that what shows you what folders and when they have been created EVEN if they are hided ?

I found a good hiding solution, it's like this -
I go to Start --> Run (Alt + R) --> type CMD --> then a Command Prompt opens and it has a line like this "C:\Documents and Settings\Matt.MATT-C197669C00>" and then I got to C:\Documents and Settings\Matt.MATT-C197669C00 and there I create a folder named "asjad", then in command Prompt I type in "attrib asjad +s +h" and then my folder disappears and if I go to search and type "asjad" into search it doesn't find that folder. If I go back to command Prompt and type in "attrib asjad -s -h" then my folder appears again. Then I go to search and type "asjad" into search and it finds it.
!!And my question with that is, Is there a program or something that finds that folder ? It would be great if it would show the date when this folder is created, but if it doesn't it would be good too if it would show latest first or something like that !

Now my next question is - Can I search a hidden pictures or pictures in hidden folders or anything ?
Can I, I really need to find some of my brothers pictures and delete them .

PLEASE HELP !!
Thank you !

A:Hidden Files And Folder

You have to change a couple of things, this is what I do:

a. Put check mark in Display contents of system folders.

b. Remove Do not show..., elect Show hidden files/folders.

c. Remove check from Hide extensions for known file types.

I then can see all files and file extensions, thus making myself able to clearly have some idea of whether I have the right path or not.

I just downloaded and unzipped Tor (a browser that preserves anonymity) on my Win7 Pro x64 system. During the unzipping process I told the self-extractor to create a Tor folder in my Program Files (x86) directory and extract everything into it. When it finished I opened Windows Explorer to navigate to the directory, but couldn't find it (see NoTor.jpg attachment). I re-ran the extractor and it shows the directory, and everything previously extracted (YesTor.jpg). I have show hidden files and folders checked in Control Panel | Folder Options. I realize there's a lock on the Tor folder, but I thought that had to do with access control, not visibility.

I'm asking here rather than at Tor as I'd like to learn the Windows principle involved rather than just solve this immediate problem.

Thanks.

A:Exposing a hidden folder

The padlock is related to ownership and permissions.

In this particular case, the folder Tor is owned by the system, hence the padlock overlay.

Have a look at this WSF thread on a similar issue to yours.

I used a freeware "ABC Lock" to hide a folder on my machine (Windows XP).It did hide it, however I was shocked to see that even after unhiding, I couldnot get the folder back.

I know the folder exists on my machine, because the unused disk space has not changed. But there is no way, to get back my folder. I even uninstalled "ABC Lock", but still the folder remains hidden.

I tried using a recovery software, but it couldnot find the folder (perhaps because it is not deleted in the first place, its simply hidden).

The fact that I know that the folder is there on my machine, but I can't see it is making me crazy. Someone, please help ... the folder has a lot of critical information, I will be in a mess if I don't get it back.

PS : I wonder why they distribute such freewares without testing it thoroughly in the first place.I see a similar problem faced by a user in one of the earlier threads (with the title "Help!!! My 'My Documents' Folder is Gone"), so it proves that this software is known to create such mess.

A:how to exposure a hidden folder

If the program is not responding, try uninstalling then re-installing.
Without knowing what program it is, can't give much more than that.

The forum rules won't allow us to give too much help; most of these programs require a password, and trying to bypass that is against the rules.
That said, some of the simple ones just move the folder into the System Volume Information folder, in a cryptically named folder. A search for a file you know to be in that folder can often find it. You'll need to add your user account on the Security tab for the System Volume Information folder to gain access to it. (Right click | Properties | Security)

Hello All,
I am working on a windows 2k machine. It was hacked a few weeks ago. The machine has since been cleaned of the programs. Here is the problem The HD is showing 4.3GB of disk space free, and is showing 73.2GB being used.
When I show hidden files and then look at the properties of the different folders I am only seeing about 6.4GB of disk space being used.
Is there a utility to show all hidden files? I have gone into tools/folder options/view/show hidden files, but I do not believe that the computer is showing me all of the hidden files. Does anyone know how I can search this hd for these hidden files?
I believe that while the machine was hacked it was serving music, and movies, but I can not find any trace of those. This is a critical machine, and I can not just do a format, and then install everything from scratch.
Any help or hints would be appreciated.

A:Really hidden folder/files

This app will at least help you track down what folders are the largest:

http://www.hushpage.com/FoSi/fosi.html

This XP reg tweak shows superhidden files in XP--don't know if it will work in 2k:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
"SuperHidden"=dword:00000001
"ShowSuperHidden"=dword:00000001

Hello alilabaf, welcome to Seven forums.

Where did you find these folders/files?
What folder were they contained in?

Just to help us out a little.

Normally you should'nt delete hidden folders (Hence why they are hidden) and also i doubt very much you could stop these from being created.

But we do need a bit more info as to where you came accross the said folders/files.

Hello,

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit), Service Pack 1 .

I have noticed that there's a hidden folder called C:\ProgramData and that it contains various folders corresponding to the softwares installed on my system but not as many as there are in C:\Program Files. Could anyone please tell me what purpose this C:\ProgramData folder serves?

Also, I have seen that there are some folders within C:\ProgramData corresponding to softwares that are no longer on my system. Is it safe to delete these folders?

Thanks.

A:What's The C:\programdata Hidden Folder?

From what I could gather from Microsoft's site and other websites, the folder C:\ProgramData contains part of the Operating System. It is not recommended that you change the location of the folder let alone deleting it! That probably explains why the folder is hidden from view.ProgramData:"... By changing the default location of the user profile directories or program data folders to a volume other than the System volume, you will not be able to service your Windows installation. Any updates, fixes, or service packs will fail to be applied to the installation. Microsoft does not recommend that you change the location of the user profile directories or program data folders.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949977

Hello Cowboy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you didn't move the "My Pictures" folder's default location, you could open a elevated command prompt, then copy and paste the command below and press enter to unhide your "My Pictures" folder.

attrib +r -s -h %USERPROFILE%\Pictures /S /D

In my newsreader program, I can select a posting and "save as" and the 'downloads' or 'attachments' sub-folder within my newsreader program folder are there. When I go to file explorer in the same program folder they are absent. When I do CMD and go that the newsreader program folder they are not there. Not sure what's going on.

Thanks
David

I used xcopy to copy a huge number of files to a folder on an external hard drive. When I was done, the folder was nowhere to be found on the hard drive, even though I have "view hidden folders" enabled. I could, however, see that the disk space was being consumed. I went into DOS and could cd into the directory and see everything (even though it didn't show up in the directory listing there either). This was on Win XP. I plugged the external drive into a Vista machine and the folder is visible, but its semi-transparent, as hidden folders are. How to I make it into a regular folder?? What might I have done wrong?

EDIT: I finally spotted the "hidden" checkbox in properties under Vista, but it's grayed out... ??

EDIT2: Okay, googling around about grayed out hidden checkboxes lead to the attrib -s -h <file/folder> command, which fixed my issue. The remaining question is, why in the world did this happen?

I already tried enabling 'Show hidden folders' from the folder options but it is still hidden.

This isn't as easy as it sounds. I checked "Show Hidden Files" And I unchecked both "Hide blah system files etc."

So I go to my second hard drive D... And I see the Recycler folder. I click on it, and it shows me four recycling bins with really long names and weird letters and numbers that nobody in the world understands.

I click on each one of the recycling bins held in the "Recycler" Folder, and they are empty. But I want to retrieve files from them that I know are there.

How do I know they are there? My McAfee scanned for viruses, and I was watching and reading the scanned folders and files with my hyper speed vision. I noticed it said:
Scanning: D:\Recycler\...\BlahFolder\Blah.jpg etc etc etc

While in each recycling bin, I once more went to Tools > Folder Options > View. And verified the settings there.

I'm sure microsoft has reasons for keeping their own deleted files from the public. And I know about some rmdir/s commands to delete directories and remove them for good. But I want to possibly recover them. It wasn't important before because I put it out of my mind that the files were lost forever. But there are some important family pictures that I believe are only in those files which I thought I lost.

Thank you for your help.

I don't know of a free method of retrieving those files, by Norton Utilities has a toll that allows to recover previsously deleted data(what you need to clear) and to Empty Norton Protected Files.

I had been altering some of the properties of a folder relating to access (by right-clicking on the folder under sharing and security tabs) after which I found the folder had disappeared. Not only was it not visible, the program it contained, SQL Server Express, no longer could be started, and connections to the databases iit contained no longer worked.

I've looked for it as Administrator and Owner, and checked for hidden folders. I also checked the Recycle bin to see if the folder was accidentally deleted.

Does anyone have any suggestions on recapturing it?

(Including how to Find these type of files with Search tool)
Because XP will not always show you hidden files and folders by default, Go to Start > Search>Files and Folders>> and under "More advanced search options".
Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Next click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Ok, I tried to move my personal folders to another drive & got things screwed up. By following some of the advice here I was able to get things back to the default.

I only have one problem. Under C:\Users\Carrie I can't see the Documents folder. I can see all the other personal folders, but not the Documents folder. At the top of the tree, under my name, Carrie, I can see the Documents folder. If I unhide files & System files I can see the Documents folder under C:\Users\Carrie.

I have compared the Documents folder properties with the other personal folder properties to see if I could see a difference. The only difference is on the Document folder the hidden attribute has a check by it but it is grayed out. You can't change it. I thing this might be the problem, but I don't know how to fix it.

This is an interesting conundrum. And by 'interesting' I mean "I wish this was hypothetical or happening to someone else."

A folder has disappeared from an external hard drive, as confirmed by plugging it into another computer and checking, searching for several filenames it should contain on all possible drives (with hidden files shown), and searches with Recuva and testdisk of deleted files. There is no discrepancy between the size of the remaining folders and the reported size of the folder that contained it along with the remaining folders.

The drive in question is a 2TB WD Mybook external that may be showing its age- another folder had a cyclic redundancy check error, and the folder in question developed one several weeks later. I'm making plans to move my data off and have already duplicated the most important files on it.

When the folder developed the CRC error mentioned in the previous paragraph, I ran scandisk. It was after running that utility that I found it had disappeared, so that is the most likely reason. However, the other folder remained (with error unfixed, eventually resolved by using testdisk to copy the folder to another drive.)

Hello hello.

Sooo, I stupidly made this folder hidden:
C:\Documents and Settings\User (me.)

Then, a whole bunch of shortcuts on my desktop disappeared, same with programs on my start menu... and I can only launch certain programs through the "run..." box. Which all makes sense.

But I can't make it unhidden? I went into Documents and Settings, then to Tools > Folder Options > View, and checked "show hidden files and folders." Then I clicked apply, and ok. But still couldn't see it. Then when I went back to the view options it was back to "do not show hidden files and folders" being checked.

Obviously I just want to do this so I can go to properties and stop it being hidden. But I can't find it!

I'm able to change this setting in other folders just fine.

Can anyone help me out?

A:Can't make hidden folder unhidden?

Try going tools>folder options>view tab>tick "show hiden files and folders" and untick "hide protected operating system files (recommended)" then hit apply and ok. Then to double check that it took go back in and make sure they are still as above.

If so then try and unhide the folder. If not and you've made your documents private, depending on the version of windows XP you have you might have to take ownership of the folder.

Hope this helps.

If you hide a folder make sure you just hide the folder and not the contents with it. Actualy W7 will ask you this question when applying the hidden attrib, if you want to change these settings for just the folder or also the files and sub folders in it. Choose only this folder and the contents will stay visible, also when viewed as a shared folder on an other computer.

I cannot see windows/system or windows/system32 folders and getting all sort
of weird failures on my XP. I notice in the past threads that the problem was solved for someone but I cannot workout how.

I have checked through explorer and ensured that no files are hidden. So it is not a straightforward mistake.

I can see the contents of these folders with DOS commands. attrib -H
c:\windows\system32 command doesn't work as it refuses to recognise
c:\windows\system32 as a file.

I booted in 'safe mode' and can see that system exeutes a number a of
commands from system32 folder successfully. However, when I sign in through
my administrator account, I still cannot still see these folders. Looking at
the 'security' property of windows directory shows nothing strange.

Can someone please tell me a way round to getting my system32 and system
folder back/visible again.

Regards
Rajeev

My first post, so welcome everyone.

I had a virus, which I deleted with Spybot S&D and Eset Nod32 antivirus (it may not have been removed completely). For now the infected PC is not connected to the internet.

I found the virus and started scan by looking into msconfig. I saw two objects:

element: _scott_-{97BAE4-4CF2-5FFC-B9DB 1D 1D324E}
localisation: C:\Users\Mikaka\AppData\Roaming\_scott_css.exe

element: _scott_vrc
localisation: C:\Program Files\_scott_svchost.exe

The program files folder is hidden by the virus, you go to C: and it is not there. What can I do about it?? Its not hidden through the standard windows hidden files (I have showing of hidden files enabled, and I still cannot see it).

I tried combofix but it doesn't work for OS higher then XP, how can I restore my Program Files folder?? Help
The Program Files is still there (programs that are installed there are working, and you can find things there through search in start menu, but you cannot see the folder itself).

Infected computer:
Intel Core2Duo E4500 2.20GHz @ 2.20GHz
3 GB GoodRAM 800
Gigabyte GA-P35-S3
NVIDIA Geforce 8600 GTS 256 MB
Sound Blaster X-FI Gamer

Hey Tech Support Guys,

I need to uninstall SP2 on my Windows XP Pro Dell Inspiron 700m machine. Problem is, "Windows XP Service Pack 2" does not appear in the "Add/Remove Program" area, AND the entire hidden folder containing the uninstallation EXE file, $NtServicePackUninstall$, is missing in my Windows folder.

I DO have the following folders:

$NtServicePackUninstallIDNMitigationAPIs$
$NtServicePackUninstallNLSDownlevelMapping$

and they each contain a folder called "spuninst", which in both cases contain four files:

spuninst.exe
spuninst.inf
spuninst.txt
updspapi.dll

I'm assuming on XP machines where the $NtServicePackUninstall$ folder is not missing, it contains these same four files, only they're targeted to remove the entire service pack rather than just one component of it like the above two folders seem like they'd do.

Is there anywhere I can download the missing folder and the files it contains?

If not, could I perhaps reinstall SP2 overtop of my current installation, in the hopes that it would regenerate the missing $NtServicePackUninstall$ folder? Or is reinstalling SP2 overtop an existing installation just a recipe for disaster?

Sigh. Windows.

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I'm not sure if it belongs elsewhere.

I have a file on my computer I am trying to delete, but I am told it needs Administrator privilege. I tried changing it's Ownership, but then I am told I only have permission to view & nothing else.

I have tried this using the Standard account & Admin. account, but neither helps. So I am trying to delete the file in Safe Mode, but the file is in a Hidden folder (ProgramData). How do I navigate to this Hidden folder while in Safe Mode?

A:Hidden folder in Safe Mode

controlPanel >>files/folders>>folder view >> Hide/show hidden folders,(apply>OK)
works in normal mode too.

hi ,

I am facing a strange problem in my windows 7 PC now. Yesterday I made one folder hidden in my F:/ drive. Today I want to un-hide it. I went to "Folder and Search Options" >> View Tab and then "Show hidden files and folders". Then I applied and OK the changes. Still I don't see my hidden file. The F:/ drive shows that I have 7GB of data in it. But it shows a folder of 98MB only.

Please help. I am stuck up here.

A:How to show my hidden folder again after I hide it?

Try opening Windows Explorer as an administraitor, or use another file explorer such as WinRAR, which is unaffected by Windows Explorer settings such as hidden files. If you still do not see any files, then prehaps your memory device has been corrupted and you have multiple 'bad sectors' on your device (assuming its flash-memory based)

A:How can I unhide one hidden folder on my computer?

Hi Thedafthatter What you're asking is really easy. Simply right-click on the folder and select Properties. From there, uncheck the Hidden box. Also, I don't know how unhiding the folder will make Minecraft back up your saves more often. Mind explaining how is it supposed to do that exactly?

Hi,
Am not sure whether this the right place to ask this question:

I am using XP SP2. When I plug in my pendrive and run AVG, I can see the names of 2 folders being scanned. However, when I open the pendrive to delete those folders, I cannot see those folders. I have the "show hidden files" and "show system files' option on. So, although I KNOW that those folders exist,
I cannot delete them. Any suggestions?

A:Hidden / invisible folder or files

When in widows explorer you can choose to "view" hidden files and folders. While in windows explorer, click on TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS>VIEW and you'll see quite a few entries there. You need to select SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS and that should show you any hidden files/folders. I need to caution you though, you need to MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DELETING!! You could damage your system by deleting something you shouldn't, so be careful and if you have any questions about what to do, please post back here and someone will be able to help.

Windows XP service pack 2.
I have a churches computer that was infected with "INFOSTEALER", "TROJAN.VB.jy" and "DOWNLOADER.CRYPTIC.f" that I volunteered to try to fix.

I searched the threads and followed the instructions listed to remove them and was successful. Thankyou for the help.
But still have the issue of not being able to change the "FOLDER OPTIONS"/ "VIEW"/ "HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS" selection has both "DO NOT SHOW---" and "SHOW HIDDEN----" selected. If I select either one it will stay only as long as I do not close the Folder Options box. As soon as it is closed it will again default back to both hide and show.

I cannot find any threads with this issue except the mention in the one thread about "INFOSTEALER" that I used to get me this far. What did I miss?

I tried to use my folder option to view the hidden folders but it will automatically uncheck both show or do not show hidden folder and ended up hiding all files again.

I managed to show them back by using regedit by following some guides by setting the value of Hidden and ShowSuperHidden to 1.

May i know are there any method to clear of this problem and showing the hidden folder again by using the normal way. I find it troublesome because if I checked the folder options then the value of Hidden in regedit is reset to 0 again..

Earlier today I was trying to find some files in my Users folder which contained both the folders "Public" and "Home." I couldn't find the files I was looking for in either of those two folders. I right-clicked on the Home folder, and then clicked on Properties, thinking that the files I was looking for were hidden. I didn't realize that once I clicked on the "hidden" option that my home folder would be hidden; I brain farted and thought that function allowing me to view hidden files. I realized my mistake a few minutes later.

Now I can't see or find my Home folder. How can I unhide it? Thanks.

(my apologies if there is another forum area this question should have been posted to)

Hey! I had an external hard drive on which I had an hidden and unsearchable folder on it. Everything was working well. I was using 1 bat file to hide it, and one bat file to show it. However, a few days ago, I dropped it on the ground and it's dead(the head is literally destroyed ). Now that I'm trying to make another folder hidden and unsearchable on another external hard drive, it's not working! Here is what my bat files do:

hide.bat

Code:
@echo off
cd G:\Fichier\Test\config\fonts
attrib +s +h "Test Files" \*.* /S /D
attrib +s +h "Test Files"
EXIT
show.bat

Code:
@echo off
cd G:\Fichier\Test\config\fonts
attrib -s -h "Test Files" \*.* /S /D
attrib -s -h "Test Files"
EXIT
My folder "Test Files" is located at "G:\Fichier\Test\config\fonts\Test Files".

When I run the bat file, it hides it and everything but when I try to search for something, it still shows up! It shows up all of the files inside the folder I had just hidden. I went in the folder options and disabled the option to show hidden files and it still shows everything inside. From what I remember, last time I had it checked to "Show hidden files" on my other drive and I still couldn't see it or search for what was inside of it!

Thank you very much for any help! I appreciate it

The second attrib command is hiding the folder, but because the first attrib command in each of your batch files are suffering from incorrect parameter format, Hide/Show .bat is not hiding/'showing' everything inside the folder which is why you are able to search the items inside it.

Below is my fix for Hide.bat:

Code:
@echo off
cd /D G:\Fichier\Test\config\fonts
attrib +S +H +I "Test Files\*" /S /D
attrib +S +H +I "Test Files"
EXIT
You should changes to Show.bat accordingly.

be gentle now! *LOL* Want to temporarily hide a folder from prying eyes. The prying eyes aren't very computer literate so I don't need to worry about hacking. Windows Explorer >I went to folder properties> Attributes: changed to hidden, hit apply, and then when I restarted WinExplorer, it's still there! OK, now what???? I even rebooted and you can still see it!!???

I have been using ComboFix for several months with no problems. It has been a real life saver at times. The last view times I used it I noticed that it changed all of the users Documents and Settings to hidden and read only, which has not been to hard to fix, folder, attributes, uncheck hidden, uncheck read only, apply to all files and subfolders. The last time it used Combo Fix, it did this to the entire C: Drive. I first noticed the problem when I clicked on start, programs, and no programs where showing. Then I noticed that my hard drive capacity had almost no free space. I starting looking for stuff to delete, and found a new CombiFix folder at the root of C:. When I double-clicked on it, I saw the same thing you see when you click on My Computer, so I double-clicked on C:\ComboFix and found that it repeats over and over until it used up all the hard drive capacity.Edit: Moved topic from Introductions to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

I made the folder hidden using this command in the command prompt:

attrib +s +h "foldername"

This makes the folder hidden and not show up in search results, HOWEVER, if I search for the name of a file within that folder, it will appear in the search results. How do I make the folder AND its contents hidden and unsearchable.
