missing "my pictures" folder in users, folder renamed itself

Q: missing "my pictures" folder in users, folder renamed itself

I have such a mess going I am making another post to avoid confusion ( mostly in me ) I will try to explain.

I have a ssd for the os and then a hd for "D" storage,

Lets say my user name is "Harry" and I wanted to move some user/harry folders to the "D" drive,
I wanted to place the moved user folders into a folder of their own so I made in "D" a folder lets say I called "Dobby".

What I now thought I did was go to harry down to "my pictures" right click it then clicked properties,
then clicked location then clicked move, I then found "D" and found the "Dobby" folder in "D" clicked on "Dobby" and then select folder, I then click it to move and all files,

Now I have a two part problem.
"Dobby" folder is gone from "D" replaced with a second folder called "my pictures".
"my pictures" folder is gone from the user/harry folders list, how do I get it back?
Next problem,
When I go into "D" I have two "my pictures" folders one empty and when I click properties on it and look at the sharing tab it's name is "my pictures".

When I click properties on the other folder named "my pictures" in "D" and go to the shared tab it's name is "Dobby"?

So how do I get "my pictures" folder back in the list on user/harry?
Why did the "dobby" folder rename itself as "my pictures" in "D" ?
Why didn't the "my pictures" folder end up in "dobby" folder like I tried to do?

Please help me fix this mess,
Many thanks!

A: missing "my pictures" folder in users, folder renamed itself

dobby folder on D drive contains a hidden file disktop.ini. Thats why it behaves as "my prictures". Please listen carefully and do just what i tell you!

folder is gone from the user/harry folders list. =>You mean C:\users\Harry doesn't have folder "my pictures" anymore?

Im looking for a way to re-create two folders, 1 my pictures, 2 my video. ive tried TweakUI, but that can only move a path. I tried repair (not Repair console) with XP SP2 CD, and ended up with a chose OS screen (which i found out can be avoided with msconfig.) but still regedit has a big whole where my pictues and my video should be. Ive both a SATA and an IDE drive, IDE is used as storage and SATA is partitioned and computer management say Extended partition, with boot on it and system is on the IDE one.
Before it got messed up i had my documents on the ohter partition, which is how i want it.
I would greatfull of some help and a detailed fix, i will fomat but even that is hard as that is part of how it all become so mixed up.

Vince, Tweak UI has that ability under the Repair section. Just use the drop down arrow button and choose My Videos and My Pictures one at a time, click the Repair Now button, click Apply/OK.

I have a problem with one of my vista accounts' picture folder. When saving to "my pictures", I went back to my "user" folder to find the pictures folder... but the picture I saved was actually saved to what appears to be a 'false' recycle bin; Only, this 'recycle bin' does not behave like the actual recycle bin, since I can browse and even open photos from within it, and it also does not have the "restore" option... When I try to change the name of the "recycle bin" folder to "pictures" (from the properties window) it says that there is already a folder with the name 'pictures', but then refers to the same 'recycle bin' with my photos. How could this have happened? How do we get the folder to return to the normal "pictures" appearance? It's as if part of the software thinks that it's the pictures folder, and part thinks it's (somehow??) the recycle bin (based on its appearance). Thank you.

A:Pictures folder appears to be "recycle bin" but still behaves like "pictures" folder.

Hello Jsprong, and welcome to Vista Forums.

This should be able to help restore this folder for you.
Backup anything that you do not want to lose in these two folders to another location.Use OPTION THREE in this tutorial to make sure that the "Pictures" folder is set to it's default location of "C:\Users\(user-name)\Pictures".Delete both folders.Restart the computer to apply. It may take a couple of restarts before the Pictures folder is back in it's default location. If for some reason the icon is not correct for it, then you can use this tutorial to fix it.Hope this helps,

When I reinstalled Windows recently I decided to move my user data folders to my D drive since C drive is a new SSD - I did this by using the location tab in the properties dialog.

Now, when I click the start menu and click on my username to open my home folder, it displays all my data folders, EXCEPT My Music, My Videos and My Pictures. (of course, if I navigate to C:\users\...... only Appdata is there since everything was moved to D:\users\......) So I go to where the folders are stored, on D drive, and they are all there, but when I go to properties for these three folders, the "location" tab is not there.

Furthermore, I remember the default save location for MS Paint is the pictures folder, however now its default location is My Documents. Same thing applies to Windows Live Movie Maker (default should be Videos but it's defaulting to Documents). I think this is related to the problem I described above.

Also, when I click on the Pictures library (or the videos, or music library) it says there is no folder included, so I had to manually include the right folder from the D drive.

The attached screenshot sums it all up. Of course, when I saved it, I just saved it in the default directory for Paint, which happened to be... MY DOCUMENTS.

A:"My Pictures/Videos/Music" missing from home folder

Hello Marcus,

See if you may be able to use OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to restore those user folders back to their default location on C. User Folders - Restore Default Location
Afterwards, you could use what's recommended in the yellow Tip box at the top of the tutorial above, or try moving them back to D to see how they work afterwards. User Folders - Change Default Location

I use the word missing because it seems like this stuff still exists somewhere on my PC, I just can't see or find it...

I was trying to do a bit of cleaning with a malware cleaner...I noticed a lot of stuff it was finding as in a folder I didn't recognize, so I deleted it. Bad idea. I'm kind of embarrassed I did that, you'd think using Windows since 98 would have made me a little smarter but I guess not.

It seems like I somehow deleted the "Users" folder under the "This PC" dropdown on the left of Windows Explorer.

This has caused all my files to disappear from my Desktop, Documents folder, Downloads folder, Music folder, etc...

However, they seem to still be on my computer somewhere, as when I, say, open Excel and try to open recent files, or open my Media Player to play music, I can. In those applications, I can even see the paths to the files. However, that path doesn't seem to exist when I try to find it in Windows Explorer - and I can't find them via searching the C drive either!

My mind is boggled on this one...any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Accidentally Deleted "Users" Folder...everything missing

Which malware cleaner did you use?
Did you delete it using that program? If so, it may be in a vault of that program. Allowing you to restore what you deleted; unless you opted to completely delete without placing files in the vault.

If you know the name of a document, song or picture, go to start screen and start typing the name until it is displayed.
Right click it & choose 'Open File Location'

This has caused all my files to disappear from my Desktop, Documents folder, Downloads folder, Music folder, etc...

Sometimes we forget things we know so well when things aren't working right. Have you tried right clicking your desktop, View and Show desktop icons ?

I hope you have had it working long before now. Good luck.

Although in the past I've opened this particular folder several times, it has now mysteriously disappeared from the Windows Explorer file list. I've Googled this problem and many suggestions have been to ensure that the option, "Show hidden files, folders" in File Options is checked. I've done this but the problem still persists.

Can someone please advise how to correct this?

Thank you.

Ok, just when I thought I saw it all..

Trying to create a new user on my Windows 7 laptop. The process works, but when I try to log in I get the "User profile can't be loaded" error.

Back to the other account and I see that the C:\Users\Default is missing and the data can't be copied from it to build the new user profile.

Any tips on restoring this would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking I can grap the folder off my desktop PC but I thought I'd check here first.

Cheers.

Hello,

I don't know why you want to, but you have to fiddle quite a bit with the permissions.

Navigate to the folder (Default User) and right click on it and select Properties.Under the Security tab, click Advanced.Under the Owner tab, click Edit.Click "Other Users and Groups".Click Advanced.Click "Find Now".Scroll down and double click on Everyone.Click OK THREE times.Click on the Permissions tab.Under type Deny, single click on it and click Remove.Click OK.Click Edit (now on the standard file Property window under the Security tab).Click Add.Click Advanced.Click "Find Now".Scroll down and double click on Everyone.Click OK.Single click on Everyone and then tick the "Full Control" box under Allow.Click OK TWO times.
This will get you in, but I don't know why you want to. Don't fiddle with anything in there.

Hello guys,

I have a rather strange problem. Lately I've been seing that I have a double refference of my "Downloads" folder in my user folder. You can see that effect on my attached picture:

They appear double though and lead to the same location (when right clicking and going to the position tab). When you open them of course they are one and the same. When you delete them... well... they both are deleted! (carefull there). I even tried to reallocate one of them and erase the other, but they both are moved. It looks as if one is the ghost of the other!

It's not a big problem of course but It pisses me off! Isn't there a way to make the downloads folder link single again? I guess I should look somewhere in the registry but don't know where to look. Any help would be hot.

When I click on "restore favorite links" I get a new folder called "Downloads" except the target is "My Pictures" (you can see the picture icon in the downloads folder)

I've looked inside my "Dropbox" folder for the "Downloads" folder but its not there

Is there a settinng for "restore favorite links" so I get the downloads folder and not the picture folder?

ps. the "Downloads" folder under my user name in the "Users" folder does not appear in my "Favorites" when I click on "restore favorite links" and instead "My Pictures" shows up there buts its named "Downloads"

Hello r cam, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could use OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to restore the default folders and their default locations.User Folders - Restore Default Location
You might consider this below instead to be able to access the files from your libraries with the files actually located where you like. This way you will not have to worry about any potential issues, as you found out the hard way, that could happen when moving user folder locations. Create a new folder at any location you want.
Move any files you want into the new folder.
Include the new folder into a library of your choice.
If you like, you can also set the new folder to be the default "save" to location for the library as well.
Hope this helps,

Okay, here's the rundown as best as I can remember it...

Several years ago (around 10, if I'm approximating), I purchased a slew of components and built my first computer from scratch. Since that time I have run through four power supplies. It seems as though some other component is causing these power supply failures. This is not the purpose of this post, however (but some back story).

Now, I am not the most technically savvy person in the world, and after the second failure, I took the computer to a "professional". While I don't know what he did in its entirety, I did notice a change that confused me. However, as I had decided to be an end user from this point forward and not a techie person, I didn't question it. The change... I could access the user account "Documents" folder from the "My Computer" window but not from within the "Documents and Settings" folder under the root directory.

In other words, if I were to double-click the "My Computer" icon, I would be given the usual options of hard disk drives and CD drives as well as the "Shared Documents" folder and the "_Username_ Documents" folder for the user logged in. (That would by Ahr Neely's Documents for the Ahr Neely user, and as there was only every one user created on the computer it was the only documents folder that should have existed.)

However, if I were to, from the "My Computer" window, open the C:\ d... Read more

Yea, I've had this problem too when making folders. For seemingly no reason at all they just lose their customize tab.

If you really want it back, just make another folder named "Program Files" in another directory, then move all the files into it (Make sure you get hidden ones too) and then delete the old program files folder and move the new one into the old directory on the C drive or wherever you had it before.

Make sure the old folder is empty though and that you don't miss anything!

I have made a screenshot of the failure:

Hi,

I have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons...

This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct. Any help much appreciated.

This could be one for the books,

Last night when I went to look at the Pictures folder in My Documents there was a folder of pictures and six other pictures in my folder that no one, not me, nor anyone else downloaded to the computer. All of them are JPG files and we have friends who have e-mailed pictures to us.

However, in my fifteen years of computer experience I know that I would personally have to download those photos to mu computer in order for them to be viewed. A family member has posted unrelated pictures on E-bay. We are trying to think and there were no e-mails opened, no photos looked at, nothing between the time that this happened, (Last Night.) Because a family friend who is into photography sent nature pictures through E-Mail, I just assumed it was from him and said, "Oh, I put those pictures that you downloaded last night in a folder, and the other computer user in my family said, "What pictures?"

I don't use Photo Sharing of any kind, My Avast Anti-Virus log shows now threats. All of the pictures are OLD. BUT here is the interesting thing, of the photo specs of them so far that I can see, they were taken by a person who has the SAME type of camera that we use on this computer. BUT we just got the camera last year and no one else has used it. The dates on those pictures go back from 2000-2003.

There is no evidence of anyone using any photo sharing application software. The computer runs as well as as ever. Any ideas?

Or perhaps the person who did email you mistakenly included some pictures, maybe even by forwarding an olld email from the picture taker.

Hello,

I have a folder I named "Latest Pictures" in my extra (non-OS) SSD drive. Confusingly, in some places it is just called "Pictures". I cannot recall its history, so it may have begun as that name. Since it is on a drive that was empty when I got the PC I am assuming it is not a system folder. (I don't actually have a "Pictures" folder on my C:\ drive either.)

Folder shows correct name on left pane of Windows Explorer, however, if I look at Properties for one of its sub-folders the path is like, "D:\Pictures". Similarly, in Adobe Lightroom, the folder is simply called "Pictures". I thought of reinstalling it until I noticed that Windows has the anomaly.

(Note that this folder is not part of a library but I suspect it once was.)

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

It sounds like the pictures folder from your C was once moved to that D drive. Look into Properties > Location tab whether you can move it back to default.

Also - if you could post a picture of the Properties of the picture Library, that would help understand what's going on. Example below:

I own a system running windows 7 enterprise and have an administrator account on it.

I would like to setup a "standard user" (not admin) account for a new user.

I plan to create a folder for the user inside of which the user will be allowed to create his own subfolders and files. I plan to right click on that folder and "send it to
the desktop".

When the user double clicks that desktop icon, he'll be running windows explorer and I don't want him to be able to see or do anything using windows explorer outside of his
"home" folder other than creating or accessing items under it.

I plan to have that user's home folder be directly under the c: drive.

Questions:

Is there a better place for it (inside of "my documents", etc) or is under the c: drive as good a place as any for these purposes?

If I put the user's "home" folder under the c: drive, what should the permissions be for which users and which groups on the c: drive toplevel itself and on the user's
"home" folder so the user can do what he wants in or under his home folder, can run a few applications located in "Program Files" such as Firefox (one of the desktop icons I will be installing) and in another folder under the c: drive where I will place a few .exe files he can also run, but NOT be able to read, write, execute or in any way modify the contents of any other folders anywhere under the c: drive?

1. Click start menu
2. Click My Computer/Computer
3. Open C: (or whatever drive your users folder is in)
4. Open the Users folder
5. Right click your administrator user folder
6. Click Properties
7. Click the Security tab
8. Click Edit
9. (You don't want username John to open this folder ever) Click Add
10. Type in John (or the username you do not want to access the folder) and hit Enter
11. Under the Deny column, put a check in Full Control.

PROBLEM: "unknown Users" are listed in Properties/Security of a folder.

I have Windows 7, 64-bit.

The Properties/Security box of my "C:\Users\[my name]" folder lists two Users called
"Account Unknown (S-1-5-21-879640176-2077098734-2292519611-1001)"
and, "Home Users", in addition to the legitimate Users "SYSTEM", "Administrators", and "[my name]".

After deleting the computer's Limited Acct, the 2 Users are still listed.

"S-1-5-21-879640176-2077098734-2292519611-1001" is not found by the Yahoo Search Engine. The Windows folder-specific search engine for "C:" and for "Users" searches essentially indefinitely. That for the folder named after myself finds nothing.

Especially regarding "S-...", is this caused by malware ? Would deleting either or both of these Users cause harm ?

Thanks.

A:"unknown Users" are listed in Properties/Security of a folder.

Account Unknown can come from a previous installation or from an account that previously existed but has since been deleted. And you will not find anything within the search engines about the long string of numbers because it is unique on most computers. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Security_Identifier

Hi,

I recently upgraded windows 7 onto both my laptop and desktop PC's. Initially, when I viewed the network tab in explorer, it used to bring up a list of my computers, of which I could then pick one, expand the list and see the corresponsing drives attached.

Today, I (stupidly) set up a homegroup. deciding i didn't really need it, i then deleted it! however, now when i expand the computers under the network tab, i cannot see the drives anymore. i can only see a folder labelled "Users".

Does anyone have any idea how i can get it to revert to what it used to show?

Start> Run> type: regedit and hit OK. Navigate to:

Click on Advanced folder in the left pane and look for Hidden in the right panel. Set the value to 1 to show and 2 to hide.
If not there, create DWORD value with Value name: Hidden and set the value as above.

When I look at my Public folder on Windows Vista using the Windows Explorer utility, the files there show up only in Pictures view. I.e., most annoyingly, there is no column showing when the files were modified. There is only a "Date Taken" column, which applies only to photos.

Is it possible to change the view, and if so, how? The files I'm talking about are not in any of the prenamed folders in the Public folder (Public Pictures, Public Videos, etc.); they are just in the folder.

Thanks!

Am not sure what has gone wrong, but the last modified date shows 1/04/2012, but i havint touched those folders on that day. I used picasa to pull out all teh pics on the system and it matchs the ones present on the folder. I am really concerned that i mite hav lost everything, and i dont hav back of all the pictures. Can a recovery restore all of it ? I am sure I did not delete them.

Any help will be appreciated

Thanks.

A:Unable to find pictures in "my picture" folder

Depends on what actually happened to them. If they were deleted, and as you have been using the PC for months without noticing, they have likely already been overwritten. You can try data recovery software and see what is found.

In any case, this should be an eye opener that you should have at LEAST one copy of any important data. Preferably multiple copies, with a copy kept offsite. For example, if the PC and copies are stored in a single location, and that location is destroyed...all of the data is gone.

Hi there, I am really hoping someone from this forum can help me out. This I hear is one the best places to obtain help. I just about tried everything I can, and its just not working. Here is my issue...

Somehow, my "Pictures" folder, the whole thing, not just the contents got moved to the Music section. I guess I accidently dragged it there or something. I noticed it, wondered it something was wrong. So, I clicked on the start orb and clicked on my pictures. It was still there. So, I deleted the folder that was in my music section and now the whole pictures folder is gone. I tried the "shell:mypictures, but here's the thing... it seems it creating the folder on my DESKTOP. I do NOT want it there. When I delete the folder from my desktop, this is the message it gives me:

I am kinda freaking out right now. I don't know what to do. I really hope one of you can help me!

Hello Everyone,

I have an issue with Sharing a Folder on a Windows SBS 2011 Domain.

On my Windows 7 Client Computer I want to Share one particular folder, but not with "Everybody". Instead I just want to share the Folder with one colleague - Brendon.

Toward this end I enabled Sharing on the folder and gave Brendon permission to access the share as follows:

As you can see above I have given Brendon complete access to the Share!

Additionally in the Security Settings I gave Brendon complete access - like so;

As can be seen Brendon has "Full control" under the Security Tab.

Given the above settings I expected that Brendon would be able to access the Shared folder (which is located on my workstation).

However when attempting to look at the Share from Brendon's computer we were met with the following message:

Because I couldn't specifically give Brendon access I chose to apply the "Everyone" group to both the Share & Security tabs -
Now Brendon can access the Shared Folder but so can everybody else, which isn't the desired outcome.

I don't understand why this is happening, because the "Everyone" group contains Domain Users, and Brendon is also a Domain User.

It says "The following things need your attention before you can continue to the installation". It goes on to say "Change the folder or file name of C:\users on drive C:"

It gives me an option called "Open" which takes me to this C:\ drive. However, I cannot change the name of C:\users. Not even with administrative permission. What do I need to do?? Please explain thoroughly because I am not great with this stuff.

When I logged on yesterday morning it was fine... some 15 folders and over 6000 pictures. When I logged back on yesterday afternoon everything was gone. I've tried looking in the Recycle Bin, searching by individual folder and file name but to no avail. Everything seems to be gone. This morning I ran Spybot and it identified and removed something called "PurityScan." Would this have deleted my PICTURES folder? Is there any way they can be recovered? Dell xps, windows xp
recenlty logged into windows under my username. no desktop icons, could access limited start menu functions via drop down menu. restarted, same thing. Under my pictures (I have about 200GB of digital family pictures etc), there was NOTHING. Not a single file. I didn't panic as a have an external hard drive and online digital picture backup. started system restore to restore computer from 1 week earlier.
successful. Icons back digital pictures back......however, now when I click on the MY PICTURES folder it opens with all the pictures there but it is like there is a hazy cloudy onlay over them. You can still make out what the pictures are but very difficult to see easily. I can click on a specific folder and look at them in film strip view but the filmstrip pictures are cloudy as well until I click on an individual picture. then it pops up clear as a bell. Just very frustrating that I can't look at the pictures clearly until clicking on them individually.
I did another system restore to go back even earlier and still the same problem.

Any suggestions or setting changes would be very much appreciated.

thanks,

Within my, "My Pictures" folder I have a great many sub folders containing thousands of pictures. In all but a couple of folders is the option to view as a filmstrip (which I prefer).
However there is a folder (within "My Pictures") that I'm using now that doesn't have that option!
Does anyone know why, not all folders in "MY PICTURES", has the option for filmstrip?

A:Filmstrip issue within "My Pictures" folder

You can set folders to store diffrent kinds of files in diffrent manners e.g for music, photos, documents and videos.

If you right click the folder you want to filmstrip it should bring up a window with three tabs, click the tab which says customize, click the folder template bit which should be near the top of the window and change it from documents to either 'pictures' or 'photo album'.

Also if you want all the folders in the pictures folder to be the same click the 'apply template to all sub folders'

That should have sorted it but pm me or reply if not.

Sometimes leaving it open (which I think is dangerous) only allows the CD to be viewed on the original machine.

My problem is that "My Pictures" folder is displaying the name of another user (example: "Celia's Pictures" instead of "My Pictures") even though this user (Celia) does not exists in my computer.

Everything started when I copied the "Celia's Pictures" folder from an external hard disk instead of copying the content of "Celia's Pictures" folder. After finishing the copy operation I realized that my "My Pictures" folder was renamed as "Celia's Pictures" too, so at time I had two folders with the same name (Celia's Pictures).

I copied all the content to the folder that used to be "My Pictures" folders (now named as "Celia's Pictures") and deleted the recently copied "Celia's Pictures" folder but my old "My Pictures" folder is still named as Celia's Pictures.

I have tried the following and nothing works:

(1) If I try to rename the folder by right clicking the folder and selecting the Rename option, it allows me to rename the folder as "My Pictures" but as soon as I press ENTER it is renamed again as "Celia's Pictures". No error is displayed.

(2) If I try to rename the folder by right clicking the folder and selecting the Properties option, it gives me the following error: "Can not rename My Pictures: The source and destination file names are the same".

I read somewhere, I don't remember where exactly, that it was possible to move the "Users" folder from the main drive SSD to a secondary drive HDD. The SSD would only be used for programs and the OS files, while the "Users" folder will be located the HDD and save some space in my SSD. If I can recall, the process went something like this:

1. Install the operating system, normal, with only 1 User, which automatically has Admin rights.
2. After login in, we would tweak with the Registry and some other places... (This part is what I dont remember)
3. After the system is set with all the changes, we would create a User with Admin rights.
4. We log off and sign in with the new user we created. A new "Users" folder is created in the HDD along with all the new user files, i.e, Documents, Pictures, Movies, AppData, etc.
5. The user that was created upon Installation of the OS is deleted along with the "Users" folder located in the SSD.

I need to know the complete process to avoid crashes and system damages. I will be installing Windows 8.1 Pro x64. There is a website that says that we should NOT move the Users folder published October 2013, while there is another website that explains the process only that this is dated March 2012 before Win 8.1.

Please advise, and let me know if the move is possible and how. Would this affect updates, Win App installations by other users?

Hello to all!

I'm new to this forum and obviously i'm not sure if this is the right place for starting and posting this thread.

Since i'm pritty desperate i'm going to explain the best i can what is really happening and how it all started:

since a few days ago i was noticing that a few files, specifically mp3 files are missing from my music collection. I managed to recover the missing ones and transfer the whole collection to a new drive without issues. Today i've found that some recently downloaded files, including several mp3's where missing again from the new HDD. I started to look around the internet abut the problem and what could be the reasons that causes my files to "vanish" from my HDD. As i was reading, i stoped at one thread in other's site forums that related to some "security" and "user privileges" issues in Win 7. I then tried to "fix" the problem but noticed that the files where still missing.

Next thing i tried was looking for the missing files in some AppData subfolder named something like "virtual backup" or something. That was the last time i saw the "user" folder and the last time y accessed my local drive. Turned out the folder just dissapeared from the screen after a short "access denied" dialog box (error). After that, all of my desktop icons dissapeared and my c: drive went like it's empty and can't be accessed, still i can see the drive lying there and every time i run a virus ... Read more

So, now I have a list of tagged galleries, along with the original pics in the picture folder at the top of the box.
I also seem to have gotten a group of pic files in the folders file towards the bottom of that box which are also dupes.
So now I have 3 sets of my pictures in different places in Windows Photo Gallery.

When I click onto my Local Disk, drive C in "My Computer", go to "Users" then "Matthew" all is fine.. But then in my start menu when I click the newly redirected Pictures folder that now is Matthew, it contains all the files is should, PLUS a copy of "Matthew" again.. Hello

I recently set up a new PC which has a new install of Windows 7.

I have entirely new hard drives, so I have been using a hard drive port to copy data from my old PC hard drives.

I dumped all my data in Storage (E: ) and was thinking about where to store all my pictures, etc. Obviously the default in Windows (C: ) Users [My name]

... and all the folders are in there, including My Documents, My Pictures, My Videos, My Music, etc.

I wanted to transfer all these root folders to E drive so as not to fill up C with files. I figured I would move the folders before copying all my old data into them.

I started with "My Pictures" folder. I moved by right clicking, selecting location, and trying to move to E.

However, this did not move the folder as anticipated, it simply moved the directory there along with some of the few recent pictures I had saved in the folder. Everything simply arrived in E with no actual folder.

Now the original folder has disappeared from C, and I cannot find a way to restore it.

How do I restore this folder, and how do I go about moving these foldes to the desired drive?

I've tried restoring defaults, unlinking the folder from E in the hope it would reappear in C, and making sure hidden folders are visible, but nothing has worked so far.

Thank you

I don't want to rename a user PROFILE, I want to be able to rename the Users folder (i.e. E:\Users) to Users.old and change every single link in the registry that points to it.

The reason I want to do this is because when I first installed Win 7 Ultimate I forgot to unplug my old Win 7 Pro HDD & also forgot to delete the factory made partition on the SSD, so when I had finished installing Windows 7 Ultimate (including moving my User Profiles to a 2Tb WD Black HDD), I found I couldn't boot into it because I had no "System Reserved" partition and therefore no boot files (as the Ultimate install just added an entry into the Professional bootloader).

I have a new SSD that's the same size as my current one and I can delete the partition off of it so it's completely unused and Windows can create its own partitions, however I want to be able to use the same 2Tb WD Black Drive for my User Profiles, I know how to do move the User Profiles to another HDD at install but I don't want to overwrite the old folders hence why I want to rename the old ones & toggle all the links to suit.

So, it told me to put in my windows CD and push "R" to repair it. So, I did, but that gives me a nice command line, and I don't exactly know what to do.

I tried restarted, and now without any error it just brings me to the blue windows XP screen before the computer goes to your desktop, but it just stays there without actually..going to my desktop and letting everything function. So, what do I do now? Is there any way to replace this file, or am I gonna have to re-format?

A:Computer does not boot up, A file in my windows folder is "Missing/corrupted"

hey there killaer

they only thing thing that comes to mind is (F8 ) and useing the (The Last Good Configuaration ) option

when you use thr repair dose it not tell you wich drive your software is on / profile ??

it should give you the option as in ( 1 c;/win) or something to that affect , maybe you need to slow down and read what the options are

i know this can be very frustrating but sometimes good things come to those that stop and smell the pc chips and stand back, look, read ,and reread

i have learned this lesson many times !!!!!

hope things work out

Hi - I've trawled all over the Web looking for an answer to this with no luck so hoping you guys can help.

When I open "Folder Options" on the "Tools" menu, then select the "View" tab, the "Advanced Settings" box is empty -

I haven't got a clue how this happened and haven't had / got any viruses (I ran a couple of scanners).

Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hello all,

I know this has been discussed a few times before, in tenforums.com and also in sevenforums.com, but I promise this is different from those times.

I've done a search and looked through quite a few different solutions, but I just can't seem to find an answer that helps me solve this problem:

So I just recently installed my SSD and I was in the process of changing the location of my Downloads folder from my new SSD drive, to my 1TB HHD, so as to save space. I then changed my mind and wanted to keep the Downloads folder on the SSD drive, so I went to change it back by going into the "Location" tab under Properties and moving it back to the SSD drive.

Bad idea, because now my Users folder has been renamed Downloads and I can't change the name of the folder anymore. I've tried solution #147545 from the sevenforums.com but that didn't work for me.

It's weird because when I look at the folder with a different User account logged in, it shows up like it should with my original user name. So it's only different when I'm logged in as the original user looking at the folder, because I see it as Downloads.

Now if I right-click and select properties, under the "Sharing" tab, it shows that it's perfectly fine and not named Downloads. Also under the "Security" tab, the Object name shows up perfectly fine as well and is not named Downloads.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you guys in advance.

For some reason, the "search" option is missing from the context menu of certain folders. For instance, I have 6 folders in the same parent folder. If I right-click certain ones, "search" (and all the usual items) shows on the context menu. On others folders, it's missing altogether. It may have something to do with the type of content in the folders. i.e. one folder has nothing but fonts in it and the right-click menu has all the usual options including search. A folder right beside it has nothing but icons in it, and "search" (along with several other usual items) is missing.

Hi All,

I was messing around with trying to move the default location for my User Folders. I was following Brink's guide: User Folders - Change Default Location. I had a secondary drive error (where the folders were to be relocated to), requiring a format. Prior to doing so, I changed all the folders back.

Now, my "Contacts" folder no longer has a "Location" tab in its properties, so I am unable to move it back. I went into regedit to the following location:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

and was able to find the "Contacts" folder. It was incorrectly named (some jumbled mess of what appeared to be random numbers and letters). I renamed it to "Contacts" and changed the Data to "%USERPROFILE%\Contacts".

After doing all this, the "Contacts" folder is displayed in My Computer and correctly pointing to C:Users\Me - but there is no location tab in its properties so I cannot move it again to a secondary drive.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to restore the "Location" tab?

Thanks!

I have a folder that is full of a lot of files including some big .avi, .mp3, .wav files.

Something has happened and I cannot open the folder.

The error message says "folder is not accessible/error performing inpage operation".

I would like to open the folder but I would settle for deleting it. I cannot delete it. The error message says "cannon delete: the folder is not empty".

When I go to props props says it has 0 bytes, 0 files, 0 everything.

When the file is selected (such as to check props) I can hear the drive grinding and it takes a minute of grinding for anything to happen.

I know the folder is still taking up space on my drive because if I go to My Computer and look at free space the space used is the same as before this problem started.

I am using Windows 2000 Professional, 5.0.2195 Service Pack 2 Build 2195.

I have a 42 Gig hard drive NTFS file system.

Need help to either delete this folder and its contents to free up space or open it and get the contents out.

Please help.

Good Morning and thank you in advance for your help,

I have somehow deleted the entire "etc" folder in the System32 folder of Windows.

I use a variety of antivirus software (including SpyBot, AdAware, CCleaner, Malware, etc.) on a regular basis. (Maybe I'm overdoing it?)

I haven't seen anything abnormal about Windows just yet, but I suspect trouble is just around the corner. I know the file contains a variety of drivers, etc.

Can you suggest anything? (I checked the recycle bin; nope, not there.)

Worried.

I'm hoping someone here has experience with the software Folder Lock and can help me, or they can figure out intuitively whats wrong from the error message I get.

After restarting my computer, when I try to open folder lock i get this message:

"There is already a ‘Locker’ folder inside the application path. Please move any other folder other than the ‘Locker’ folder to another location and then try again to access your secured files."

I navigated to the program files->folde Lock directory and there is no Locker folder there. I even moved every folder out except for the executable and that made no difference (a desperate move.) Final move was to upgrade to the most recent version of the software, but that didn't change the error message.

There are important files locked inside of folder lock, and i'm screwed at work if i can't figure out whats wrong!

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Prior to a few weeks back where I made added a function to the folder file type, it didn't matter if I doubled clicked on a file folder on either the left hand pane or the right hand pane of Windows Explorer, Folder View. Either way opened the folder and displayed in the contents in the right hand pane.

Since I made the change below however, if I click on a folder in the left hand "Folders" pane, it works as before and opens the folder and displayed in the contents in the right hand pane.

However, if I click on any folders in the right hand (files pane) a new windows explorer window opens a displays the "my documents".

This is driving me nuts. The same thing happens if you click on a shortcut to a folder. Instead of the folder opening, it opens a new window and displays "my documents".

This problems started when I added a new function to the folder file folder file type properties to print out the contents of a folder by calling a batch file that piped the content to a file.

In the file association for file folders in the advanced section I now have three functions
- the afore mentioned 'create file list'
- explore (the default), and
- find

For the folder file type I just have:
- explore and
- open

Any suggestions on how to put things back to the way Windows Explorer always worked before make clicking folders in the right hand pane open them up properly in the same window as per clicking them on the left hand pane?

My TrendMicro breaks all the time. I've Googled and it seems no one else has this problem. It worked fine last week, last night it wouldn't work; it get's stuck on the "Preparing" stage and never initiates a scan. I let it run overnight and it did nothing.

Thinking I could uninstall, then reinstall I just now used RegSeeker to find all Registry Entries with the text "Housecall" in them. The idea was to delete all references to the Housecall Installation (if you can call it that; it's an ActiveX application), and then reinstall. (Note: It also goes bad in the Java version two, both in IE7 and Mozilla)

The RegSeeker window shows several Registry Entries that have the address "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\CONFLICT.1\Housecall_ActiveX.dll", and I noticed the "conflict.1" which seemed odd so I tried to navigate there. I have system and hidden files show, and I am the Admin, so I should be seeing everything, but there is no "conflict.1" folder in the "Downloaded Program Files" folder.

But if I do a Windows (not command line DOS) search of the text "conflict.1", it shows the "housecall_activex.dll" file, but it's NOT in a "conflict.1" folder, it's in the "Downloaded Program Files" folder". I can't see any evidence of "conflict.1" 's existance except for the registry.
