Manually Add an Application that was Not Installed

Q: Manually Add an Application that was Not Installed

Greets Everyone.
Thank you for the incredibly helpful forum!!

I have a weird issue that has cropped up with my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I decided to upgrade the version of my Scite and there were no options for installing it. I simply unzipped the archive and copied it to a new folder in my Program Files (x86) folder. I then renamed my old winscite to bust the links, keeping it in case something went wrong, and created new desktop, startmenu, and taskbar links to the new version.

The application opens up just fine, and works just fine. But when I want to use it to open specific file types/extensions, I cannot use it. I tried right clicking on a file, say a PHP file, and then chose Open with.../Choose default program from the right click context menu in Windows Explorer, and of course, Scite is not listed in the recommended programs options. I expand "OTHER" and still do not see it, of course. So I clicked BROWSE, navigate to the new scite, and double click it. This is where the weird stuff starts. The browse dialog box closes, yet scite is not an option still. Nothing changes actually.

Scite is not listed as a default program, and I cannot add the new scite as one. I have no idea how I can tell Windows that I want to open the new scite with ANY file type.

Is there a registry modification I need to perform? How do I remove ALL options/recommended apps associated with a file type? Then maybe when I double click that file type, I can tell Windows where to find scite and it will work.

I have seen all sorts of things before, since Windows 3.1 but I have never seen this before.

Thank you for your time and hopefully your suggestions.

You have to double click on the .exe of that program.

So a couple of weeks ago or so I installed ie10 manually. All fine and good and works well. Today ofc ie 10 comes in windows update so I figure its an update or something and install it. When I reboot its again in windows update even though I installed it already. Also in 'Installed updates' 2 entrances show with ie10. I dont really foresee a huge problem with this but Im still wondering if you have any ideas on how to fix it?

A:Ie 10 installed manually, still shows up in WU and wont go away

Hi Conditioned, uninstall it then let WU replace it or try it manually again like this:- Attachment 259099

I bought an Asus N550LF-CM115H two months ago and replaced the HDD with as SSD in order to maximize performance.

The laptop has incredible start-up times, showing that the SSD is most definitely the drive on which the system is running, and can open programs pretty quickly. However the general performance of the computer is buggy. For example, while typing this, the letters are noticably coming up several split seconds after typing them. It has great trouble running web browers (I've tried Chrome, Firefox and Explorer) without eventually having a script fail or the browser become unresponsive.

It's usable, and occasionaly the performance is very good, but there is definitely something wrong somewhere. Any tests I can run to check where? Any ideas on what the problem might be? Any ideas on how I could go about fixing this?

Thanks a lot.

A:New laptop running on a manually-installed SSD is buggy

That could be anything and may have nothing to do with the SSD. For starters I would run a sfc /scannow

Co-worker wanted me to look at her computer to fix some problems. I found virus(es) had hijacked ie. I tried malwarebytes, etc. and switched to firefox and tried to run windows update but endless search yielded no updates.

I reinstalled the OS from original disk -- Vista Home Basic 32-bit.

I manually installed SP1. I then manually installed SP2. Tried updates again. Forever looking and no updates.

Could someone outline my next moves to be done to head towards a fix for this updating problem? I would appreciate it. I see that there posts with similar problems and I am not sure which ones I should try or do I need to do something else before I start manually downloading updates?

Thanks,
Don

I have several Type 1 fonts that I installed manually and now want to uninstall. When attempting to delete through the Control Panel route to Fonts, the error message is that the fonts are in use and cannot be deleted. No programs are open. When attempting to delete or change permissions through the CMD window, the error message is access denied. When attempting to change the read/write permissions on the Fonts folder, and clicking ignore on the many system fonts that Windows installs by default, I still cannot get access to these three fonts. Interestingly, this r/w permissions approached worked several days ago for several other Type 1 fonts that I installed manually.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

now i installed pc suite in 7 (primary OS) , can i use this same application in XP2?

if possible please, explain?

A:How can i use an application in Vmware that was already installed in original OS?

You are going to have to import the installation files onto the Virtual Machine and install them through that OS in order to get the application to work on it. You can mount a .ISO on your primary OS that can be accessed through the virtual machine. A Virtual Machine usually does not have the ability to directly access the hard drive files on the machine it is being run on.

This problem has been driving me up a wall for quite a long time now. I've tried every fix I've seen on the internet, but nothing permanently fixes the problem. In fact I have two different issues, but I believe them to be related.

I'm running WinXP SP2 and MS Office 2K3. I installed everything myself after getting a new hard drive for my laptop. The original one flat out died. Everything has been running very well for over a year and then out of the blue this problem started. I first noted it with MS-Excel but it also happens with MS-Outlook. I'll execute the application and I get the following error message:

"Microsoft Excel Has Not Been Installed For The Current User". Or "Microsoft Outlook Has Not Been Installed For The Current User".

In addition, I have a non MS Office Application named PowerTerm Pro. When I execute it, I get the following error message which according to its header is being generated my MS Office:

"The Operating System Is Not Presently Configured To Run This Application".

I'm guessing there are errors in the registry but I may be wrong. Does anyone know of a fix for either of these two issues?

Thanks in advance.

Steve

A:MS application Has Not Been Installed For The Current User

Sounds like it could be a permissions issue. Try this and see if it works.

1. Log on to the computer by using an Administrator user account.
2. Start Microsoft Windows Explorer.
3. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
4. Click the View tab.
5. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
6. Click to clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.
7. Open the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data\
8. If you are running Office 2003, right-click Opa11.dat, and then click Properties. If you are running Office XP, right-click Data.dat, and then click Properties.
9. Click the Security tab.
10. Click Advanced.
11. Click the Permissions tab.
12. Click to select Everyone in the Permission entries list, and then click Edit.
13. Click to select the Full Control check box.
14. Click OK three times.
If these steps do not resolve this issue, delete the Opa11.dat file or the Data.dat file from the following folder, and then restart an Office 2003 program or an Office XP program
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data

Hey everyone! I'm making a batch file for a computer repair company I'm with and I'm trying to automate as much stuff as possible and speed things up. As of this moment, I got all the major components of a batch file that retrieves information about the computer (Manufacturer, Model #, Serial #, etc.) then it opens up our site and logs that information in the site's database for the user's later review. Now, our site is programmed for netscape based browsers (Opera, FireFox, Chrome) and has some serious issues with Internet Explorer. So what I'm trying to find out is how do I make a batch file detect if a netscape based browser is installed and then open the site up in that browser? Any alternatives to this would be nice, we're trying not to completely redesign the website but will if it has to be done.

A:Batch File to Detect if Application Installed

I can think of 2 quick solutions, and neither are 100% reliable really.
One would be to check for the existence of the folder in program files, using an IF EXIST c:\program files\opera\nul............ and assuming it will be there. However it has problems if the user installed to a non standard location and you'll have to watch out for 32/64 bits versions which go to different folders.
Another way would be to check for the existence of the registry key un HKLM\Software\Opera, using REG QUERY command (check the actual key created beforehand, I'm just inventing here, but the idea is that). This also fails when the user is using the portable installations of browsers, which are registry-free.

In the long run, the only sure method would be to fix the site to make it work in IE. It's really common that non-IE browsers run the sites as they should, yet IE has problems frequently due to being standards-incompatible. While it's more work, I would ask a web developer to do the fix and workaround those IE bugs to make the site work properly everywhere. It's a very common problem unfortunately.

I don't think that could be done unless you have a setup folder as if it was a downloaded program like an executable or a zip.

My XP system crashed when loading an update, I could not get a restore point so re-installed XP from disc. I lost all other programs, including MSoffice. I have found the short cuts to POWERPNT and MSPUB but when I try to access them I get the message, "MICROSOFT POWERPOINT HAS NOT BEEN INSTALLED FOR THE CURRENT USER. PLEASE RUN SET UP TO INSTALL THE APPLICATION".
In USER ACCOUNT I am COMPUTER ADMINISTRATER and the GUEST ACCOUNT is OFF.
I do not have the discs for MSO.
Hope somebody can help, I am only just computer literate, what you might call a silversurfa.

A:has not been installed for current user. Please run set up to install the application

You really need to reinstall, of course.

But you may be able to access those programs. Instead of using the shortcuts, find the programs in the Program Files folder. Try starting the executable for each separately. If the program runs, delete your current shortcuts and make new ones. This way, you will be bypassing the installer's check of the program's integrity and it just might work.

I just installed this 1gig Kingston HyperX ram KHX3200 into my custom computer running windows XP SP2 with all the updates. I pulled out my existing 512 to make sure both memory chips were the same and they would go in the right slots. Existing slot was dusty, so i cleaned it with a clean cloth. Installed existing ram and new ram in correct places, then booted up only to receive the following error:

Explorer.exe - Application Error
Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate application.
Then all I can do is look at my desktop background and use the task manager.

The BIOS recognizes the amount of ram i have installed (even when i swap one out) but windows does not start properly. I have never had any virus problems on this comp.

Is there something I can do without reinstalling windows XP or repairing it? The only solutions I've found online for these application errors involve destructive solutions, which I'm not ready to undergo.

Please help.

Even after a PC recovery my PC says that I have service packs two or sp2 update ,but while trying to installing most any applications, exe's , ATI catalyliist  display control I will get a prompt message that I need to update my service packs & XP updates too  I know that Microsoft ended XP  support, but I noticed they still have most all kinds of  XP related applications that should work with my older programs that I'm trying to run once more ? I believe during my PC crash recovery that during Recovery that I was installed some shortcut like hotfix service packs or instead of a Standalone updates which are to be better to have ? I have check for 1.0 ,2.0 ,3.5 Net Framework folders which I do have, but I notice that when I went to Amdmistrive tools I though I remember seeing a listing of Net Framework 1.0 & 1.1 install or repair select option.  Which seems to give myself another clue that my PC is not updated to SP2 as found on my PC performance user tag now ?

Seen this in other threads but I'm hoping to get an answer to a specific question below:

"How to remove Application Error Reporting from list of components to install during VS 2010 setup"

If you're wondering why?

I'm installing VS 2010 Ultimate 64 bit on Win7 enterprise 64bit and it fails at installing Application Error Reporting. I've tried to troubleshoot this, but I'd like to try by passing application error reporting to see if I can continue, as I already have it installed and enabled. My MSI log files give error 1603, which is very common and people say it's a corrupted installer, but I have my doubts. Any help is appreciated.

A:VS 2010 Ultimate - Application Error Reporting to Be Installed

This is unfamiliar territory for me, but, if you are using the ISO, try using the web install (bootstrapper) the difference is the ISO contains everything for every scenario, where as the Bootstrapper is a small lightweight download and determines what it needs to install and downloads those things from the internet, I have read. You may give that a try.

I have an XP emulator under System 7 pro. I uninstalled a Microsoft Fortran compiler and it said, "could not find install log", so it did not do the uninstall but lost the association of .for files. When I click on properties of the Visual Fortran it points to "C:\Program Files\DevStudio\SharedIDE\Bin\MSDEV.EXE" . When I click on a .for file and tell to open with the following program, brows, and put in the above path without quotes it says, "not a valid path". Also Visual Fortran doesn't show up in the uninstall files. I've turned on hidden files. It just points to a nonexistent directory. Any help? Mod Edit: Removed email addy, protection from spambots.

Greetings

Well... first off, it would have been nice to know which application you tried to install. Even if it's "Farmer's Weekly Nude Farm Animal Calander Screen saver" it is useful to us to know that kind of information.

But, even flying blind, I have an idea what you can do:

1) Boot up
2) Press F8 to get to the boot menu
3) Select the Last Known Good option
4) If you get into Win2K, uninstall the program.

Hi!

I would like to ask if there is a much favored application (preferably free) for acquiring the current installed drivers in Windows XP SP3 to be reinstalled again after a full format then fresh reinstall of Windows XP.

I am helping a friend to have a full format and reinstall of Windows XP but problem is that since his laptop is relatively old and he lost his drivers CD. His laptop model is MSI Megabook VR320.

I prefer that he does a full format then fresh install rather than a reinstall so that he can also free some space that other applications had bloated the system partition (there are no games that eat up the partition by the way).

Thank you in advance

PS: Just also adding that what we are planning for his computer is a dual boot of Windows XP and Linux Mint XFCE.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash Player. I have went to Adobe site to do a test, it says it is installed and working. Here is the problem. I have been to two different site for employement to fill out the companies online application, however I am getting messages that keep telling me to install an updated browser( I use IE8) Which I have installed several times and/or my flash plugin needs to be installed. Okay so here I have installed a browser update to IE8 and have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe flash player which according to Adobe has installed successfully and working. I have also contacted the companies where I have experience the problems they say it's my computer not them.

A:Flash Player Plugins is installed and working? But won't work for business application

Is this the test you ran to check your version of Adobe Flash?; http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html If not, run this and see if it confirms your version as 10.0.22.87 Alternatively, you could try the test at this site (which is optimized for IE) to see if it confirms that you have the various plugins etc; http://www.b2knet.com/

Assuming the tests are positive, there is one more thing you could do, which is to try installing a 'standalone' version of Flash; http://www.softwarepatch.com/internet/flash.html

If none of this helps, you may be a victim of an IE 8 problem which I can't help with, but someone else here may be able to. Depending on whether you use XP or Vista, it may be possible to revert to IE 7 (or better still, use Firefox or Opera). Wait and see what others advise.

When installing applications they appear to install correctly. An icon is created on the desktop and I can access the program.

In control panel under programs and features... the application is not showing up. I cannot uninstall the programs, because they aren't showing in programs and features to uninstall.

Yes, workarounds can be used to delete the program, but there is something wrong. The programs are not installing properly.

I ran sfc/ scannow as admin no problems indicated
After a couple hours messing with this:

Thought I should add this... When I right click on the installer/setup exe file and select to run as administrator the installer works and does show up in programs and features... Also, I can delete the program as well from programs and features.

I have never had to do this before even though I am admin...(in name mostly) unless I am willing to allow more vulnerability to my system by turning on all the time. Still having to run as admin does seem a bit much for installing programs. The worst part...the installer will run, installs the program, yet leaves off the ability to uninstall or change in the programs and features page of control panel

There's a really strange problem on my Windows 7 64 bit edition.
I added a program to apply fix on ACT ,finished and saved as a .sdb extension file.

However,
when I clicked "Install" on that sdb,it showed a dialog "The database 'xxx' was successfully installed" but "Installed Databases" field wasn't showed in ACT,so installation is failed.

Plus, when I clicked "Close" a database which was just generated and tried to open the saved database file again,

It show up a dialog instead. Same problem occurred in ACT 64 bit.

I've tried any version of ACT from 5.6, 6.0 ,6.1 and 10.1; All of them have same problem.

STOP: c oooo 145 {application error. The application failed to initialize properly (0x 0000005). Click OK to terminate application. The above message is what I receive, when I run "error check". It was advised from the Microsoft website that I ran ERROR CHECK, along with "disk cleanup" & "defrag" analysis, to see if the machine needs to be defragged.I went along with the advised procedures by Microsoft, because it was said that the computer would run faster. I've been doing the ones that worked, defrag analysis, disk clean up & CC Cleaner. Along with those maintenance tasks, I update all the definitions on the malware software. With the aforementioned error message problem with the lap top, I also have a problem with Adobe Reader (listed in another topic), that I can't uninstall it, without getting a 'Error 1402' message. Then the one last problem is the cursor jumping around at random times, when I am typing to either the forum or in a Word document. I mention these other issues because I am not sure they're not related. This is a DELL Inspiron 1520, Centrino (2007). I have another laptop, a 5150 Inspiron, with a P4 chip, and it absolutely has no issues. It hasn't even caught a virus. I don't use it as much now, but in the past I took it everywhere. What steps are you taking to run the check?

That error seems to indicate a hard drive problem, which is why it was suggested to run chkdsk /r.

Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter. Type Y in new screen and hit Enter. Reboot the system. The command should execute, before booting into XP.

Re-installing the application may fix this problem.' So I click 'OK' and all that shows up is my wallpaper. No icons on the desktop no toolbar on the bottom no start menu no nothing just my picture. I really don't have a clue what to do at all. A:'This application has failed to start because WININET.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem

Hello frankp747,From what I read, the "Wininet.dll" error can be caused by software, hardware, or malware. Why were you performing a system restore? Have you tried to access Safe Mode?As the computer is booting, tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the "Advanced Boot Options" Menu.Use your arrow keys to move to "Last Known Good Configuration" then press the <Enter> key. Reboot the computer. If that doesn't work, try "Safe Mode."If Safe Mode loads then try to do a System Restore using a point before your troubles began. Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools," "System Restore."

Sorry guys I'm new here and I don't know much about computers so I decided to post this question here in General Chat.Well this is the problem:the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application. (it pops up twice)I've researched this topic on Google and I have noticed a lot of other people have had the same problem but I think this is a special case.See, whenever I turn on my laptop on everything goes well and even gives me the option of selecting F2 to to configure things on the computer. But when I get to the main page where I'm supposed to log in this message pops up:the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application. So then I try to click Ctrl, Alt, and Del to open up the task menu but nothing happens. I noticed the keys are not unresponsive because when I click Caps Lock the little light flashes on.So please can somebody help me out with this huge problem, or is my laptop over and done with?EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forumWe'll just assume XP-MG

I have seen several postings on this topic, but it seems that every one is a little different, so I am posting my dilemma. I am sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place.
As of about 10 days ago, several programs will not open. Instead, I get the error window that states "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the application." As far as I can tell, this error message affects these programs: Ultraplayer, Windows Media Player, Sound Recorder, Logitech Setpoint, Quicktime Player, Real One Message Center, and Total Recorder.

My computer is a desktop, HP Pavilion a1020n. Windows XP Home Ed., SP 3. Windows updates are current. Run Avast antivirus software and usually have Windows Firewall turned on.

Here's what I've tried:
Tried to uninstall and reinstall several programs. Uninstall usually won't happen. Have tried new installs over the old, but it doesn't "take."
10 days ago - went back to a restore point. Did no good.
Have run Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy several times, including today (May 2). Today Ad-Aware found and removed a few items from the families of Cookies, Win32 Trojan Spy, and Win32 Tr\.\per Delf. Spybot found nothing today.
Have run CCleaner to clean up registry.
Ran Hijack This and saved the log. I can post it if it is needed.

I've considered reformatting the hard drive, but really don't want to resort to that.

I don't kno... Read more

Hi There

I have been given a friends computer to fix. The way he described it, it sounded like it was full of Malware etc, however I haven't been able to start it up as I get the following message appearing when I power it up.

userinit.exe - Application Error The Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click ok...

This message appears twice, I then get the wallpaper of the computer up, but nothing else, no icons or task bar. I have tried a wee trip to safe mode but don't get anywhere from that either, just the same message.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Cheers

Colin

A user is getting a popup warning upon login (see event log entry below).

This started last friday and another Tech ran chkdsk and the user was able to print a few times before they left at end of day, not able to print today. I ran the chkdsk but no luck.

The print spooler service will not start, when forced the popup shows.

I have removed and replaced spoolsv.exe with no luck.

I went through the prompts of ending it...then 20 mins or so later windows finely loaded but the start menu was gone....at first the whole desktop was just the blue screen but my patients in letting it load I finely had icons but still no start menu...I found that someone had removed nortan...so there is no anti-virus on it....well I tried to load AVG on a CD that I burned off my PC and load it...along with Spy-bot, ad-aware SE, and a few other programs to see if I could get some of the tried but true to repair any virus, malware and such off. Well to no avail did any of the programs load...so I had noticed that when I tried going into user accounts to see if this account had admin. privileges the user accounts never loaded. Doing some investigating I found on Microsoft that I could make another account with admin privileges and that it should load....NOPE....I got the account created but when I tried to log into it no windows just a blank screen...Ctrl.Alt.Delete. brings up the task manager on network I see that it says that the INTERNET is run... A:Services.exe - Application Error. The Application Failed To Initialize (0xc0000005).

Well...it seems to me (I may be misreading) but that system belonged to a unnamed 3d party, which had the operating license.

If I had found such system, the first thing I would have done is wipe it clean (because I don't like using someone else's data which they've decided to trash) and to give myself a good start at seeing if the system worked properly.

Then I would have done a clean install.

That's the only way that I know how to go from a series of unknowns...to a known good, working system.

Worst case scenario: The system is highly infected.

Best case scenario: The system has O/S or malware problems or a combination thereof.

Hello..

I am trying to help fix my brothers computer.

It seems to have had a number of infections over the past year or so. He has Norton AntiVirus.

Currently, Norton does not report any infections, however, I ran a scan with Spyware Doctor and it reported a lot of infections:
Trojan-Downloader.Ruins
Application.PopCap
Application.Keystroke Spy
Adware.Search_Toolbar
Trojan-Downloader.Popuper
Downloader.PopCap

There were more. I have saved the scan results, and attached them to this post.

I followed steps listed 1 through 5 in the IMPORTANT - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help.

I also ran a number of other scans, including:
Super Antispyware
AVG Antispyware
Eset Online Scan

Those scans did not show any problems.

I was going to ask EA this, but their support contact form doesn't seem to work.

I used to play the Sims 2 on my pc. The pc was slightly underqualified, but besides slow gameplay it seemed to work fine. I had all the expansions save for University installed.

All of a sudden when I was playing it seemed to freeze, and a popup saying 'This application has crashed, application will not terminate' popped up. This happened around the time that I upgraded my pc with additional RAM and when I installed Free Time. I didn't know if it was the problem of either those things.

I still kept playing, but after a while I could only play for about 5 minutes before it popped up again. Then, I decided to play with an older lot that I created before the installation of Freetime. Strangely, I was able to play in that lot for hours and I never got that popup. The popup only came up during the actual game play, so not during CAS, or building etc.

I recently bought a new laptop. It's a special gaming laptop and it has really good specs, so I decided to buy it, mainly because I play the SIms 2 a lot. (See DXDiag). I installed all the expansion (including university), so now I have all the expansions+stuff packs on this laptop. I also copied all the custom content from my computer to my laptop. The installation went fine, and in the beginning everything seemed to run smoothly.

That was mostly due to the fact that I was building a lot more and creating families than acutal... Read more

Basically, when I switch on my laptop, both bttray.exe and GrooveMonitor display the exact same error(bar the application name in the title) - I have also tried to install AVG Free which comes up with the same error when trying to start.

The error is:

BTTray.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc150004). Click OK to terminate the application.

I am running Microsoft? Windows Vista? Ultimate 6.0.6001.1.1252.44.1033.18.3066.1940

I haven't tried anything to correct this as I wouldn't know where to start.
Any help anyone can provide would be highly appreciated,

Thank you in advance,

Joe

I've had an ongoing problem with application errors that say the following:

<app name.exe> - Application Error
The instruction at "0x036...." referenced memory at "0x00000ba0". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

I've run HJT before and others couldn't find anything. I've significantly cleaned up my PC, currently uninstalled about 4-5 different spyware/adware programs (at the instruction of a MS tech support person who's trying to help me integrate SP2 back into my c:/ with no luck ). But, someone on the XP forum suggested I run HJT again and copy the log so here it is. If anyone has any other ideas I'm open to listening. I get this error message when exiting out of almost every application or browser I have. Can't seem to figure this one out. Thanks!

OK, this is admittedly a strange one...

I have used an old (probably a 16-bit) application as my time synchronizer this I've used for quite some time. Its name is TimeRC, and is a great synchronizer as it tracks moon phases along with the time (from selectable, multiple potential time servers). After a fatal software crash a couple of weeks ago, I'm in the process of recovery. Attempts to manually launch the EXE, result in a launch-time error stating that the ap is not compatible with my Windows 7 Pro (SP1). Note that I'm running on the same level of Windows that I was using prior to the crash/re-install. I have inhibited compatibility checking (Group Policy adjustment) only to incur the Win32 error.

I've been through the litany of utilities (registry) to correct this situation, and I KNOW that this ap runs just fine on Windows 7 (from pre-crash days). I am at my wits end trying to avoid this situation. I suspect that there is a registry setting difference (now versus pre-crash) about which I'm ignorant, so I'm open to any, and all suggestions.

To use an alternative time synchronizer is not an option...I'm anal about how my system looks, feels, and performs!! I've even tried running in XP mode (virtual machine) to no palatable result. Note that I don't have access to the program's source code, otherwise I could recompile!

There's got to be something that I'm missing.

Color me frustrated,
Randy Reist (Lairbear)

cmd.exe application error - application was unable to start correctly (0x0000142). Click ok to close the application

Anyone know why it happened?

I got this error when I tried to restart to install an update. However, in windows update, it showed I had nothing to update. There was the little yellow shield by the shut down button to indicate it was installing an update when I would shutdown.

I rebooted fine, and CMD works fine. Is it possible windows thought it had to install something, and the installer had already installed the update (I went onto windows update earlier myself to install the windows and silverlight updates) and it bugged because maybe it had to use cmd to execute the update or something?

A:cmd.exe application error - application was unable to start correctly

It seems to be happening again, but only when I shutdown when explorer is open. I tried and tested his multiple times. It has only happened after the new silverlight update and kb 30247777 (sorry if the number is wrong) update.

What is causing this?

When I start up my comp, everything is fine until I reach the XP welcome screen. At this point the 'userinit.exe - user application error' message box appears twice. after clicking ok, windows continues to load but when it gets to the desktop nothing shows up. I can make desktop show up by going into WTM and going to file>new task(run)..., but as soon it loads i get multiple message boxes of 'rundll32.exe - application error'. I get similar messages when I try to run notepad, system restore, and when I double click on the icon to safely remove hardware.

I don't want to reformat my comp again, I've tried running sfc /scannow and its done nothing, tried reinstalling XP but for some reason its missing a file. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, all,
In looking at my error logs, there have been occasional errors with Word. But just recently, they have become quite a pattern. I'm not a techie and don't know if this error entry tells us details to center in on exactly what the problem is. But I am copying it below for your perusal. I am running Home Vista & Office Home & Student 2007. After I installed an update to my HP OfficeJet All-in-One I started getting frequent messages that Word had failed & Microsoft was searching for solutions to the problem. It always repairs & Word returns for continued use, but something is clearly wrong. I saw a discussion on Bleeping Computer that lead me to think that Office & my HP printer might be conflicting. But so far as I am aware the updates for both the Office & HP are the newest versions. I think Microsoft is completely updated. Can you help me correct whatever this is all about ? I am very unclear about what is happening & don't know what to do.
Thanks, dreamcatcherco

A:Application Error--faulting Application Winword.exe

Microsoft Word crashed because of this module: hpz3r4x6.dllThe references that I was able to find for this file suggest that its:1) an OEM driver file, and2) a Unified UI/Render plug-inWhich doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot to me, but I've got a guess or two about.Since the filename starts with HP and you've recently installed an HP OfficeJet...did you install it from the drivers on the disk, or did you download the drivers from HP? If you installed from the disk, did the disk (or the setup program) specify that the drivers were compatible with Windows Vista? Often printers will be marked with a "Works with Windows Vista" sticker - but won't have the Vista drivers on the installation CD/DVD.I would suggest uninstalling the drivers and software for the HP printer, then reboot and test to see if the error has been corrected. If it has, then try getting the Vista drivers from this link: http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/suppor...Display=driversand see if that helps.

I'm really in need of a motherboard upgrade, but until then....

I'm running XP Sp3; I have an An ASUS P4S333. this mainboard came out just before USB2.0. As luck would have it, today I'm in need of USB 2.0 (or better..LOL)

I need to change the IRQ assigned to a specialize audio audio card. It must sit on it's own, and currently it's sharing 16. I cannot unselect "Use Automatuc Setting" in Devmgmt to allow me to do this. I am logged in as administrator.

I have spent most of the morning moving cards around to try and resolve this, to no avail. I have also tried within the BIOS to force IRQ's to specific PCI slots, again with no success. The best I've been able to do is get the audio card off of IRQ18 to IRQ 16. In both scenarios, the IRQ is shared with something else. I have 6 PCI slots and 1 AGP slot. At the moment, after shuffling the PCIcard deck, AGP is occupied as are PCI 1,2,4, and 6. 1 and 5 are paired, as are 2 and 6.

A couple of suggestions for configuring this motherboard would be greatly appreciated.

I do a lot of work on customer machines at a computer shop, and one of the most frustrating issues I run into is when I run SFC on a computer and it reports that it found errors and was unable to fix them.

Originally I intended to write a program to automatically pull the [SR] reported files from the installation media and replace the broken ones on the system, however, when I run the command from the tutorial:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

After an unsuccessful SFC attempt, even when it reports files that could not be fixed, I never turn up anything, anyone know why I don't get the [SR] tags in my CBS.log?

A:How to Manually Do SFC's Job?

Hello Virucyde, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could use OPTION THREE in the tutorial below to get a sfcdetails.txt file with the [SR] details. If you like, upload this file here afterwards, and I'll be happy to take a look at it to see what could not be fixed.

Reading and searching for information about defragmenting has only caused me more confusion. I have been reading a lot about Win 7 automatic defrag etc. My old Vista PC has also an option where you set up a schedule for automatic defragmenting, so I don't see how Win 7 is different in that aspect...

I have built this gaming PC just a month ago. I have looked at the defrag schedule for both my boot drive and other drive and twice I have seen the boot drive say 4% defrag. Other times, it always shows as 0%.

- What does the above mean?
- I have the defrag set to a monthly schedule for 1st day of the month at midnight. Will I have to leave my PC fully powered on for this to take effect?
- Some people say defragging is not necessary for modern hard drives any more. So is it or is it not?
- I do have about 50GB of data on the boot drive (Velociraptor) and 500 GB of pictures, movies, music, games on the other drive. Is it necessary to defrag them?
- Should I do this manually because my computer is not always on during the "scheduled" defrag time?

Thank you.

A:Should I defrag manually or not

Windows 7 is a way more efficient running OS than the old XP or Vista.
I have Perfect Disk 12.5 and every time I'm curious to how defraged my drives are and analyze them they are @ 1% defraged but I still defrag every so often just for chits and giggles cause the system doesn't need to be defraged I just do it cause I started the program and may as well use it.
Having scheduled defrags is not neccessary IMO on a win7 machine

So GMAbooster is supposed to be a program that can speed up your graphics for better performance, but i have a Toshiba Satallite c655-s5132 that has a Intel GMA x4500 but GMAbooster hasn't released one for that yet (but yet the show it on the download page) they say they plan to release it but i don't know when and how long its been sence the said they planned on releasing it.

So my question is:

Can you do the samething the GMAbooster does but manually?
I mean i play this one game Combat Arms, the computer i use it just about good to play on Combat arms but when the room is full (16 players max) the game slows down and it hard to play, or when i get a gun fight with one person it slows down abit but enough to affect my skills.

A:Can i manually do what the GMAbooster does?

The short answer? Yes. Anything that software can do to your computer you should be able to do manually. However, if your device is under warranty, using that software, or doing anything it can do manually would almost certainly void it.

I'm not an expert on this sort of thing though, so for actually accomplishing it you would have to ask someone else. I'm sorry if my answer is a bit less than helpful, but I don't want to provide any in-accurate information and potentially cause you to harm your computer.

New to this forum so bear with me, I'm just desperate for help! I bought a laptop off of craigslist today because I was in desperate need of one seeing as my desktop has died. Only thing is I had no idea XP was no longer supported with many things. Is there a way to update it? It's in pretty good shape, just old. I tried to update the biois on the dell website but apparently the battery doesn't hold a charge well and it keeps telling me to charge it (It's on the charger but still not working.)The specs aren't so great from what I understand, Not fun going from my alienware to this, but I'm broke and can't afford anything else. A:How to manually update my XP?

If you just run Windows update as normal you will get all the updates that are available for XP.  Not being in support just means that Microsoft will not be making any more updates, existing ones will still download. As far as making it better, I can't really think of anything unfortunately.  It's certainly not worth the cost of a more modern OS and that CPU will be a major limitation despite any upgrades you try.Of course, you can always create a thread on this forum about why your desktop "died" - We may be able to help you get that up and running again.

I have just completed a recovery on an HP desktop. Started checking for updates and as we all know that takes a really long time (24+ hours). In my system properties it says 7 Home Premium and SP1. In the installed updates screen it says there are 12 updates only that date back to 6-7-2011.

How can I know that SP1 is actually installed?

If it is not actually installed, would it be best to manually download and install? Would this help with the time it takes to search for updates?

A:Manually install SP1?

Go to Control Panel/System

Look under "Windows Edition" at that location. If SP1 is installed, it should say "Service Pack 1".

It's downloadable as an ISO.

The 64 bit English version is named windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe

It's 903 MB in size. I'd guess you can find it and download it with a Google search. That's what I'd try to do if I knew it was not already installed.

If by "recovery", you mean some sort of restore to factory condition using an HP partition or menus and applications, I'd assume you have SP1 if the machine shipped with SP1.

Is the RAM also being clocked at 1333? That's what I've seen in the past few motherboards I've used. Setting the BIOS to use the XMP or manual settings were required to get higher frequencies.

For my own system, I set the frequency, timings, and voltage manually to the manufacturer's recommended values. (Sometimes, I've had to back off the timings a little when using four DIMMs on a dual-channel system.)

I have a Toshiba laptop running Win 7 32bit. It was current on updates until July 2015. Then WU went crazy hijacked my cpu & kept trying to download Win 10. I know alot of people were having similar problems. Anyway its been worked on remotely by 2 different techs and I've spent most of the last 4 weekends researching and trying different fixes and nothing has helped. I think WU is completely screwed up now.

I just want to find and install the updates that I need from last July until now. I've tried MS catalog also the download pages at MS website but I can't seem to get the information I need. I read about a program called Belarc that among other things can tell what updates a system is missing. Has anyone used it for that purpose? Are there better programs? I really don't want to go thru 120+ pages of downloads at MS and try to pick out all the ones that I need. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Does Microsoft host a site in which I can manually download and update my windows 7?

Everytime I click on their update site I get this! But I dont want to use my control panel!

A:Manually Update?

If you know of an update you wish to install you can search by KB number for the manual installation file...

Or you can setup a WSUS server and manage them all centrally

I basically want to install another nic in my machine.

Here's the problem. When i installed the new nic, it starting messing with other hardware. (mouse wouldnt respond)

So Im thinking its an irq conflict. and sure enough, it was being shared with my video card. I dont know why my mouse was affected.

Anyways, i see that irq#9 is free.

Is there any way i can manually assign irq 9 to the new nic?

Im running windows 98se, with 256 ram.

I also have a geforce 256, soundblaster live, and a d-link nic presently installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Jolt

Have you done a registry search?

Go to Start > Run, and type:

regedit

Look under Edit for the Find entry. Enter a search term that is specific to that program, like the program's name, or even the manufacturer if that is the only program you have from that company. Remove the entries that refer specifically to that program. Be careful not to remove entried that are not specific to that program. If the name has the word "system" in it, for example, you obviously should not delete all entries containing that word.

Use F3 to continue the search after each find.

Is the program still in Add/Remove?
Have you deleted the folder from Program Files?

Another thing you could try is a safe registry cleaner:

Regcleaner 4.3.0.780

Tools > Registry Cleanup > Do Them All. And then remove all the found entries.

First off, I'm plugged into a battery backup power supply. (I don't know if that's related or not.)

Also, I think my Windows Update may have something to do with it as well. The last couple times it's happened the yellow Windows Update icon popped up in my taskbar. I put off downloading the update because I didn't want to restart my PC. I woke up this morning and my PC was restarted without me doing so.

I seriously doubt it's a heat problem. My temps are moderate.

Is it possible that it's actually something that I can change by going into my Control panel and changing settings?

Is there any sort of program that can let me take a bunch of files on a drive and move them to wherever i like? like how a defragment program works, except i chose where to put the files, and the program defrags the files and places the pieces where I chose

A:Manually defragment possible?

Hello bxsciencer,

There's no such thing as 'manual defragmentation'. Even if you move fragmented files manually from one hard drive to another, your PC still won't become defragmented. I highly recommend you use Windows' Disk Defragmenter or similar programs.

I have IObit Advanced System Care. It's a great security program, but it doesn't seem to want to quarantine files that it/I think are a virus.
it's a rundll32.exe type. Don't know much about computers but I seem to see those alot.
I've identified the files but since they attempt to run, relentlessly, on startup, I cannot move them or delete them. If I shut down the process they automatically run again.
Without installing yet another one of the million antivirus softwear programs, is there any way to manually keep these programs from automatically starting up? or to shut them down long enough to delete/quarantine them?

Here's the hijackthis in case I've mistaken these processes for something else... The highlighted ones are the suspected culprits:
--Platform: Windows Vista (WinNT 6.0)--
C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\IAAnotif.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched.exe

hi peoples

i have installed my media centre for the 3rd time in a month. Due to various issues. (1 being sleep) Now i have installed the same drivers as the first build for HDMI audio and video, which i had perfect dvd playback and tv on, however i am faced with errors about video drivers not properly installed.

Last time it was the HDMI driver which i have installed and reinstalled 3 times. It seems every time i follow the exact same process at rebuilding vista 64 i get a different result.

Is there a way you can reset media centre so it checks the drivers all over again. I am interested in resetting audio and video if possible

A:Vista x64 media centre video drivers not installed or installed incorrectly

Hi, audiophile, and welcome to the forums.

It would help to know your Graphics card and setup - I have installed Vista Ultimate x64 twice - once for testing, and then a format and reinstall as I changed the partition setup - since then (2 months now) I have not had a single issue with WiMP / WMC.
