800 G2 Desktop Mini 35W - Mouse / Keyboard not working after...

Q: 800 G2 Desktop Mini 35W - Mouse / Keyboard not working after...

I have imaged an 800 G1 DM via SCCM with drivers - the keyboard and mouse work fine when I boot into Windows 7 for the first time. However when I image any 800 G2 with the same image and the 800 G2 drivers the keyboard and mouse do not respond in any port. Both machines have only USB 3 ports and I can see the driver files for USB3 and the KB / mouse when I connect the HDD to another machine. They do not work in safe mode either. The KB/mouse do work in the BIOS and during the initial SCCM imaging process. What could be causing this and how can I fix it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,Mark

When trying to deploy OS from Windows Deployment Services we are unable to kick off the build as this model doesnt recognise the USB keyboard and mouse. We have seen a similar issue on the EliteDesk 800 G2 SFF but as that model has a PS2 option we can use this as a workaround until the build process completes and injects the correct USB drivers. These mini models don't have any PS2 connections so that option is gone! All other USB ports are USB3 and refuse to work which leaves us unable to kick off the imaging process and install the drivers. Is there a workaround for this issue?

A:HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Mini - USB keyboard & mouse not working ...

I'd assume you already found the excellent info from Paul about there being a way to roll in USB3 drivers to a W7Pro installer build via a method from Intel.  Here is that source thread, if you did not find it:  Link The "restore" builds that HP includes on the original drive or via DVD generally have important drivers custom added in by HP, before they provide that "image" to load from.  I would contact HP directly to see if there is an option to purchase a W7Pro version for your specific model.  There has been the option to officially downgrade from W8 to W7.  This user's forum is not the official conduit for such requests.  A nice feature of such builds is that the HP OEM COA is included, and once you create a finalized build to your specific needs you can capture that image and clone it to other of your same-type workstations and that COA will work on them also.  I'd personally want the 64-bit version, if available.  Of course, check to make sure that all the workstations you clone onto have the legal right to use that COA.

I have a three year old inspron desktop running updated windows 8  Suddenly NONE of the input devices are working.  I've tried several different wireless mice, and I've tried both a wired and wireless keyboard.  NOTHING.  I've tried unhooking all, rebooting, then hooking them back up... still nothing.  Tried rebooting with them installed.  Tried switching USB ports.  ARRRGGGHHH.  Since I have no keyboard I can't do safe start (don't even know if that works with windows8 ).
I do have a "repair disk" that I created when the compter was new.... tried rebooting with it in the drive.... didn't do anything other than restart the computer with the same non-functioning input devices.
I hear my external harddrive working... so it must be doing something... so I guess its not all USB devices that are down.
I did install new logitech software last week, but it worked fine for several days, just quit working when it woke from sleep.  I'd love to uninstall it, or do a system restore, but I can't do that since the mouse is not working.
Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Input devices (mouse and Keyboard) not working on Inspiron Desktop

If you reboot and immediately press F2, can you get into BIOS setup?
Try turning PC off, and unplugging. Disconnect everything, including the power cable from rear of PC.
Then press/hold power button for ~30 sec.  Reconnect mouse, monitor and keyboard, and then connect power cable to rear of PC and try to boot
See if that helps.

XP is unresponsive for about 1/2 second every 2-3 seconds. During this time, Mouse clicks and keyboard modifiers (ie. shift/ctrl) are lost and mouse movements and keyboard letter/numbers are delayed for 1/2 second or more.

I can occasionally catch the system without these mini-freezes on every 3rd or 4th reboot (nothing changes between reboots).

In watching the CPU Usage History, I see a frequent pattern of spikes from 1-2% up to 35-75% usage. Pagefile usage doesn't seem to be moving much.

The Processes list sorted by CPU usage seems to have taskmgr.exe bumping up frequently, as well as explorer & iexplore.exe.

I'm running Dell 8200 laptop, 2.4GHz P4M, 1GB RAM, XP SP1.

I've run AdAware, SpyBot, as well as System Mechanic 5 in attempts to clean up anything errant.

I have an HijackThis log if you think it may help any.

Has anyone else ever run into this?

A:Xp Mini-freezes Every 2-3 Seconds, Mouse/keyboard/sound interrupted

What have you got running for Anti-Virus?
Is there a software firewall running (AKA 'Personal Firewall") besides/instead of the Windows Firewall?
I assume you're running XPSP2. If you're not... you should be IMHO.

What's the net usage like? Is there lots of unbidden outgoing traffic?

Yes I know this problem has been raised before and I have looked at and implemented as many of the solutions as I can find including ones from MSOFT
I use my PC as a media centre so going in and out of Hibernation is the norm. So far the only solution that always works is to unplug and replug the dongle.

To summarise what I have tried,
I've switched all the save power options off,
done all the suggestions in USB mouse unresponsive after hibernate mode
Tried using DEVCON to restart the hubs, tried using Devcon to restart the actual Keyboard and mouse,
I've even tried rebooting after a resume from hibernate but even that only works sometimes.

Some of the Devcon restarts etc require a reboot anyway so I'm not totally happy with that as a solution.

If there is no valid solution does anyone know a way to make the computer do a restart rather than a resume when it's coming back from hibernate as I suspect the USB hubs need a complete flush out.

The Msoft sites suggest that the problem doesn't go away with Windows 8, does anyone know if 8 does fix this as I have a licence. 10's not an option as there is no Media Centre available.

Any help will be appreciated

Hello, everyone; My Mini 110-1100 keyboard is acting strangely. Most of the time, certain keys will not register as being pressed. Space bar, the left shift key, t, y, [, ], z, x, c, v, and m all do not work when this happens. Sometimes (rarely) all keys will work from boot. In addition, when it's not working properly. after using it for a few hours or so, the keyboard will randomly work. I'm assuming it is a software problem as opposed to a hardware issue because of this. I am running XP Service Pack 3, with all available updates. I have also tried reinstalling both the keyboard and touchpad driver. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be appreciated. Thank you! -Don

Hello mpmckee,

First run Antivirus, Malware, and Spyware scans. Remove anything the programs find.

Note: if you need some suggestions on which tools to use, let me know.

Afterwards, test functionally of mouse and keyboard.

If no change, run System Restore, choose a Restore point before the issue started.

Again test behavior of mouse and keyboard.

If the issue has been resolved, go ahead and reinstall windows Updates.

I have 3 questions: 1) eventhough its considered an empresarial product there isnt any problem in using it residencialy right? 2) i see the connection of the monitor is only by USB, but i have the DP port in the mini desktop free. Is there an HP cable to connect this monitor USB through the DP port without wasting any of the usb ports? 3) my preference would be for a portable monitor for the mini desktop that when disconnected worked as a tablet. Is there such a product in HPs portfolio? ThanksHugo Silva

Hello, I have been having a ton of trouble using my new Logitech USB Desktop Mic. The sound quality is great, but it picks up EVERYTHING within like 5 feet of it, extremely notably my mouse and keyboard. I have tried using a sponge as kind of a filter, but it only cut off the high end, and the sounds were just slightly bassier. It is plug-n-play so there isn't any more customization that can be used other than what I can do in the control panel. I am wondering if there are any tricks to make it stop, or will I need a quieter mouse and keyboard? I have looked at silent mice, but none of them had good reviews, and plus I am in the process of getting my replacement Razer Naga for the THIRD time. Any help is greatly appreciated, Arethor.

I am planning on building a PC for my own use in the near future. It will probably be a few weeks before I start ordering the pieces and I will be purchasing an OS as well- either Win7 or Win8.
To anyone running Windows 8.1 on a desktop sans touch-screen, how is it? Is everything as straight forward as Windows 7 or XP ? if you had a choice between Win 7 or Win 8 would you stick with Win 8?

A:Windows 8.1 for desktop PC using mouse & keyboard

At this point I'd go with 8 if I had no need for the features removed from 7 (desktop games, XP mode, gadgets).  I have no use for the Modern/Metro mode junk, but if you install the free app, Classic Shell (from, you can give 8 the look and feel of 7 with the classic Start button and menu with everything where you're used to it.  I keep installing the big updates to Windows 8 in hopes MS will start listening to its customers and add the Start menu back, but so far they've only just given little bits and pieces around the edge.  At least the Classic Shell folks are there to come to our rescue!  There's a similar app called Start8 that goes for $5 if you'd prefer; it has a 30 day free trial.
Good luck.

Before this round of trouble I discovered a problem with one of my graphics cards when they were in SLI with Blue screens and other nasty little things occuring when running Windows; I removed my secondary graphics card from the system to see if I could get a more stable OS, which I did.

I decided to test to see if the other graphics card running on it's own would lead to a stable system, however I was getting zeros on the VGA BIOS bootup screen and other problems before I even reached Windows Vista.

I did sucessfully boot into Vista and enter my password (using the keyboard) and move the mouse around, however once I had logged into my profile Vista began asking me if I wanted to install the drivers for the keyboard and mouse, I selected to update from the Internet and when Vista did not find any drivers for either device it disabled them.
Eventually I got both the keyboard and mouse functioning again by reinstalling Intellipoint pro and the Logitech setpoint.

While using the second graphics card I noted some distortions such as zeros appearing on the VGA BIOS screen during boot up, so I decided to switch out the graphics cards again, again this caused Vista to forget about my keyboard and mouse, I am however able to get onto Vista a combination of a cheap usb mouse I had laying around and the Vista on screen keyboard.

The fix I used previously (reinstalling of Intellipoint and Setpoint) has not works,I have also attempted to manually install the drivers through dev... Read more

My computer (Product No. H5P41AA) crashed suddenly the other day.  I tried to get as much information as I could when it went down, but everything happened so fast that all I could write were "Imminent Failure,"  "File:  hiberfil.sys," and "Error Code:  0xc0000411." I don't recall making any changes to the system within at least a week of its demise,  but I can tell you this machine has had an odd sleep/hibernation pattern since the day I brought it home.  If I didn't use it for about 10 minutes, it would turn itself off.  After another 10 minutes or so, it would turn itself back on, and this behavior would continue as long as I didn't shut down the system.  Since I had a habit of accessing the computer multiple times during the day, this didn't particularly bother me, so I never investigated it further. Also, there was a strange situation in the defragmentation/optimization area, where Drives C and D were listed along with another drive that was something like 23% fragmented, but, try as I might, there was no way I could do anything with that third drive.  Googling the issue provided me with a consensus opinion that the best thing to do was to leave it alone, which is what I did. Measures I've taken to solve my problem have included, verifying that the monitor, cable, mouse and keyboard all work by trying them on my Windows Vista machine, which I had to resurrect in order to file this report and look for solutions t... The mouse seems to work in the password screen and for about 30secs after the comp is loaded..then it dies...

Is there any possible fixes for this =D?

I have an e-machines 420 which initially seemed to have a power issue i.e. it wouldn't power on. After checking all power connectors internally the machine would boot. BUT the ps2 mouse and keyboard would not respond, and the capslock light would flash repeatedly. Also tried USB mouse and keyboard on all usb ports with the exact same result.

After a lot of research, it appeared it could be either the motherboard, so a new Asrock P4i65g was purchased and installed - but the problem remained. So more research, and a new power supply was installed ... but hte problem still remains.

Please help - this is my retired parents pc, we've spent £80 already and who knows how many hours trying to resove this problem.

I am having problems with a PS/2 keyboard and mouse not working. I can get them to work through a USB to PS/2 adapter but it doesn't work until Windows (XP) boots, so I can't get into the BIOS and I can't boot from CD.
It seems the PS/2 ports are fried, but using USB is only OK once Windows is up and running.
If I clear CMOS I can access the BIOS once but after changing to 'boot from CD' and 'save and exit' the keyboard stops working and I can't 'press any key to boot from CD'. Once the Windows screen comes up the mouse/keyboard works again. The motherboard is Abit KV-85 and I want to reinstall Windows after a bad virus attack.
Is there something in BIOS I have missed that will enable this USB mouse/keyboard to work?

So 2 or so years ago one of my computers pooped out on me. If I am remembering correctly at first i got the google re-direct virus but eventually my mouse and keyboard stopped working entirely. They we're wireless, I gave them new batteries and still nothing. I even tried borrowing from my parents to see if it was just the wireless itself thru usb and still nothing. I remember downloading Norton Antivirus (yes, illegally-gasp, and a dumb move I know) just before it all happened (mouse/keyboard issues) so I'm not sure if thats what caused it and I honestly don't remember what all I did at that point to try and fix it. I'm guessing I d/l Norton to try and get rid of the virus but I think it made things worse and maybe it had a virus too? I think I tried setting the date back after the google issue...? At any rate my parents got me a new computer so I just stopped worrying about it but I'd like to get old pictures and videos off of my old one and tried again today to no avail. I tried with my new keyboard and mouse which are usb and nothing. It immediately takes me to the blue screen chkdsk thing and runs through the 5 steps. B/c the keyboard doesn't work I can't just bypass it but it never fully finishes the 5 steps. It gets to the 5th and doesn't get past 0 percent even after waiting 3 hours. Any idea what is wrong and how I could fix it? A lil help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This would mean there is a problem with the HDD if it can't finish Check Disk. You can remove the HDD from the computer and attach it internally to a desktop computer, Via a USB Adapter or put it in USB Enclosure. If you can access the drive, be sure to do a thorough Anti-Virus scan on the drive before copying any files to the new computer or you will infect that computer too.

Ok, so the obvious question is are you plugging in the front or back of your PC?
Have you tried both (as the back usb are directly off your motherboard where as the front are attached to your case)?
Ooooh, only just realised you didnt state if they ARE usb or ps2 connections, this makes a BIG difference?!?

I have dual boot for XP x64 and W10. I tried installing chipset drivers for MSI P35 Platinum and the USB ports stopped working. I tried PS2/USB adapter but not sure if it has ever worked.
I also tried safe mode, debug mode and other possible start up options. Everything works in BIOS and also when I boot W10, but in XP keyboard and mouse are not responding. What options do I have?
I tried searching for PS2 mouse, but could find any in two local stores. Just 20 different USB or wireless mices.
Now I am thinking about ordering PS2 mouse, but if the PS2 ports are not working either, what to do?

Hello Don, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Do you have another keyboard and/or mouse that you could use until you get the other's drivers installed for?

What brand and model number is the mouse and keyboard, and how are they connected?

What brand and model is your PC?

Hope this helps for now,

And I know why....I was not supposed to Unplug it and Plug it in when the PC was on . But unfortunately I got this info only after doing it. So both keyboard and mouse are not working, I tried it on another PC. I got a spare Keyboard which is also of PS2 and thats not working with the PC. So this means the PS2 ports on my mobo are also gone.

I bought my USB keyboard from office and its woking fine now. I tried to connect the USB Keyboard using a PS2 adapter without any luck. So its almost certain that PS2 is gone.

Is there any workaround to bring it back to life .

A:PS2 Keyboard and Mouse Not Working Any More...

Hi mate!

Why bother doing it after all? You can just get a new cheap usb mouse/keyboard set...Even good ones come out really cheap nowdays.

Anyway if you want to use your old PS2 devices you can get a PS2 to USB adapter (If I got you right you already used the opposite, a USB to PS2 in order to check the ports...), they are really cheap and you will be able to use your old devices.

If the ports and/or controller are fried, unfortunately there is not much you can do. But just to make sure enter your BIOS and check if they are enabled in there. You never know with electronics...

The keyboard and mouse on my computer is not responding when XP loads. No keystroke will be processed, including stste canges like caps lock.

The keyboard will work when booting, and both devices will work when I boot linux on the same computer, so I believe it to be a software problem.

I can load "nt recovery console", but I do not know what drive or service I must reenable to get them working again.

Anyone else know?

I'm running a HP Pavilion m7571a.

did you try another keyboard or mouse to see if the problem is with them. Also are they the ones that came with your hp? What about your clock in the bios, it is correct.

Hi! I have a windows 10 desktop. This morning a storm was passing through and it affected my computer when a power outage occured in my house.I turned it back on, and at first the keyboards and mouse lit up for a short while before turning off. My computer states that it need to restart and repair itself, and then dives into its automatic repairing. When my computer restarts, the keyboard and mouse light up again before returning back to its dormant state and never returning. Now my computer is stuck on this screen talking about "Choose you keyboard layout," and I can't do anything because my mouse and keyboard is not working.
Please do give me some help. I have work to do and this computer is all I have

Hey everyone,

I've tried a few forums and received no help so I'm hoping I've found my place..

I have a Logitech G11 keyboard and a Logitech G5 mouse. Both are USB. They worked fine up until about 3 weeks ago. Both the mouse and keyboard work perfectly fine during BIOS. I can run the setup commands and all that jazz fine. However, once windows boots (I'm running on Windows 7 Home) neither work. The lights on both aren't on and there is no response.

I've thought about the possibility of it being the USB ports but it is not, the keyboard and mouse work fine in other PCs, it detects my external harddrive when I plug it in, and USB keyboards and mice are equally unresponsive once windows is booted. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

PS, if it is a driver problem, how am I supposed to get new drivers without a working mouse or keyboard? This is an aggravating problem because I've replaced every piece of hardware inside my case in the last 6 months except my video card, and some small problem like this always seems to keep my machine from working at all.

My desktop PC has been playing up lately and refuses to hibernate however I only mention that in passing in case it has anything to do with my bigger problem which is that neither the keyboard or mouse will work although they both work if I plug them into the USB port on my laptop which I am now using. I have tried three different mice on the desktop including a PS/2 mouse but none seem to work either in Windows or prior to Windows being installed and hence I cannot boot into the BIOS page or attempt to fix this problem by booting to a Windows recovery disc (press any key to boot to CD) and I am stuck at the Windows log into accounts page with no hope of getting any further. For the record I can access files on the computer from this laptop which is on the same network so there doesn't seem to be anything else wrong with the desktop PC. Any suggestions gratefully appreciated as I am running out of ideas and patience!!

I have an HP desktop computer that i recently recived. The ps/2 mouse and keyboard are not working. I have uninstalled the mouse and keyboard drivers and restarted the computer. Once the computer loads up the mouse will work long enough to click on start and control panel. Then it will stop working.

I downloaded the drivers from the MB website and it will not let me install the drivers due to the drivers xp has is newer than those that i downloaded.

I uninstalled SP 3 to see if that was the problem and it still did not work. I reinstalled SP 2 and that did not help the problem either. I still cannot load the drivers from the manufactors website. When i try to uninstal the device and reboot windows the new driver is automaticly installed. The onoy other option i have not tried is formating the HDD and reinstalling windows. However that is not an option due to no money.

Any help would be awsome.

I have a USB mouse and keyboard, and I have them in my PS/2 ports because my Windows 7 does not see them in the USB-ports.

I bought a wireless Mouse and Keyboard, and they can not be seen by my computer, and they can not be in the ps/2 port.
I have no idea why not, but it would be no problem if my computer could see USB-input devices.

I bought a Wacom Bamboo tablet a few months ago, and it also won't work on my windows 7.

They all work on my other HDD, so it is not a broken USB port.
All my other USB-devices (Stick, DVD-burner, USB chargers, External HDD, Etc.)
do work.
The only things that do not work are input devices like my mouse, keyboard and pen tablet.

I hope someone can help me.

A:USB Mouse and Keyboard not working

I don't if this will fix your problem. When I went to a wireless mouse and keyboard, they wouldn't work also. I found the problem to be is that the usb receiver on my tower wasn't able to pick up the signal. To fix the problem I plugged the receiver in a usb extension cord. This lets the mouse and keyboard to transmit the signal to the usb receiver. No obstructions between the computer and mouse/keyboard. Hope this solves your problem.

A:HELP! Keyboard and Mouse Not Working!

What type of keyboard/mouse have you tried? Have they all bene USB or have you tried a regular PS/2 keyb/mouse?

Next question has to be can you get into the BIOS setup? This normally involves repeatedly hitting either del, F1, F12 or Ctrl-S as soon as your computer is turned on - if it isn't one of those keys then it should be listed somewhere on the POST screen (the first or second screen that comes up when your computer starts - it normally tells you about how mach RAM and what drives are in your computer). If you can get in there, the keyboard is still working, but you're having a driver problem in Windows.

If you either can't get into the BIOS using those keys or can't see what key to use on the startup screen, try overloading the keyboard buffer. As soon as your computer is turned on, hit as many keys on your keyboard as possible. I'm talking about mashing the keys for all you're worth. If it's working, then you should hear the computer's internal speaker start to beep warnings at you. Again, this is a sign your keyboard itself is working but you have driver problems in Windows.

If you've found the keyboard to be working, try starting Windows in Safe Mode - do this by hitting F8 whilst the computer is starting up. If done correctly, you should get a mune saying how you want to start up - you're looking for the Safe Mode option. Let us know if they're working in there.

I'm sorry if this thread has already been sorted but I can't find an answer to my particular problem.
I changed my keyboard and loaded the keyboard driver and since then the keyboard or mouse will not work.
I switch on the pc it boots ok but as I said KB or mouse will not work.
I shut down via power switch to force the pc to ask "start normally, safe mode etc" at this point I can use the keyboard, I then select any of the above, allow the PC to boot, and same problem.
I have tried to "Repair" with Vista disk but I have a Reminder program that is "ontop" so cannot get access to the Repair window because --- thats right KB and mouse will not work.
Can you give me any help please on how to access the control panel, as I feel sure that if I remove the KB driver all will be ok.
I have connected the KB for which I loaded the driver no go. Replaced KB with a no frills one, no go.
I was using a wireless mouse originally and have changed that also to a basic one.
Please help

Hello Still Learning, welcome.

Ok so a quick recap; you updated your driver, now neither kb nor mouse work. You tried a different kb and mouse and same problem. Reinstall of Vista did nothing.

If you boot in safe mode does the kb or mouse work? Even if just the mouse, you can fix it.

Hi cbspon,See if any of these things will help you further:Go into the BIOS by hitting the Del key during bootup. Click down to PnP/PCI and hit enter. Then check if the "Resources controlled by" is set to Auto. If not, set it to Auto. Then "Esc" back to the previous menu and select "User Password". See if it is set or disabled or requires an entry. Are you using a ps/2 mouse/keyboard or usb? Does the alternative work?If the above doesn't help, you may wish to replace or refresh the CMOS battery. This step can involve losing all your settings, so you may wish to read more about this step before taking it. For laptops this is not as straightforward as for towers and desktops. Hi there,

I have a relatively new Dell computer that was, up until recently networked wih 4 other computers. My roommate who did the networking did something to the computer so that he could control everything from his laptop (when the password screen popped up, he had to use his wireless keyboard from his laptop to enter it into the Dell).

Here is my problem - my roommate moved out (and very far away) and when I go to turn on my Dell computer now, the password screen pops up, but the mouse and keyboard that is plugged in do not work. I've tried a USB keyboard and a PS2 keyboard and neither work.

I know the password, but is there anything I can do to enable my keyboard and mouse?

Only thing I can think of is to check the BIOS settings and I'm not even sure which settings you'd look for. Even though your roommate has moved, are you still in contact? Given the small amount of information you're probably able to post (i.e. if you're not able to log into your PC you can't very well tell us what the settings are) your roommate would probably be the best to give you advice.

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 that was not used for a year or so. I am trying to use it again. The mouse does not work at all and only the enter key and a few F keys work.

A:Keyboard and mouse not working

Hi Catsmith,
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
Please reseat the cables for the mouse and keyboard and check the status. If it is still not working, try this keyboard and mouse on another system. Also let us know if you are using a USB or PS/2 keyboard and mouse.

I have an Inspiron E1505 laptop. I was trying to reinstall drivers for my CD drive that was not working properly. I believe I accidentally uninstalled keyboard and mouse drivers. I remember deleting 'upper and lower filters' from the registery. Now when I turn on my laptop, the desktop appears but the mouse and keyboard will not work. I tried plugging in an USB mouse, I get a message that says new hardware found but the mouse still doesn't work. If I need to download drivers, how will I get them to work if the I can't access the mouse or keyboard? BTW - I can't locate my XP CD. I can use the keyboard in F2 mode but not in safe mode. Thanks in advance, Jay

While trying to correct a CD/DVDRW drive fault, I have deleted Upper/lower filters in the registry editor which means now there is absolutely no response from the keyboard/mouse. Because of this I cant obviously perform a system restore and I have repeatedly tried restoring to a good configuration point with no results.
My OS is Windows XP home edition and the computer itself is an Acer Aspire T120E.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I have a 3D building model which I have spent a fortnight creating which is due soon for a college project and I cant access it! oops! lol

A:Keyboard/Mouse not working in OS

Oops! - sounds like you deleted the wrong filter references!

All I can suggest you try now is a "Repair Install" using the Windows XP CD (borrow one if you don't have one, but it must be the same version with same service pack):

Yesterday I got on my computer everything is running fine. Today got on it for awhile and suddenly the USB keyboard and USB mouse lock up. I've tried restarting it and I can't get past the first screen. It says keyboard not present or something around those lines.

I plugged in a ps/2 keyboard and it works but my USB mouse will still not work. I've tried going into BIOS and making sure USB was enabled. Tried a system restore but for some reason it wont complete.

Went into safe mode and tried scanning it nothing came up but a couple tracking cookies.

Did a diagnostics through the f8 thing on start up.

Tested both the USB keyboard and mouse on another computer. They both work.

Also went into device manager and uninstalled all the USB stuff in there so it would reinstall on start up.

Nothing seems to work. Help would be appreciated!

Hello andrewww. Welcome to the Forum.

Sounds like your USB ports are bad.

Of course, questions that came to my mind: New computer? Old? How long has it been running the OS? How long have the devices worked? I assume this is a desktop.
If you fill out your SYSTEM SPECS under your forum profile a lot of these questions would be answered and you would get better answers.

Have you tested other USB devices, like thumb drives, external drives?
Have you tested all of the USB ports?

I am asking this for a relative because they can't use their computer.

They say that their mouse and keyboard have stopped working. They can only turn the computer off by pushing in the power button. They've had this computer for a few years now. It's a Dell Dimension 2400 (I think), WinXP, about 640-768MB RAM, 60 GB hard drive which is about full, and I think it's about 2GHz Celeron processor. It's also on an (unsecure) wireless network for the purpose of using a DSL connection.

They told me that when they turn on the computer it will go to the AOL screen and that's it. Their screensaver works, but the mouse and keyboard do not.

The mouse is a wireless Microsoft mouse and I think it's PS/2 but I'm not certain. I don't know what brand the keyboard is but it's not wireless is PS/2.
That's all the information I have at this time. Unfortunately they're not too computer savvy and if I didn't already know their computer specs, they never would've been able to provide that information.
Is there anything that I should check out when I go over there? I've never come across this kind of problem before so I'm not sure what to do, especially since I can't use the mouse or keyboard. My first guess would be to try another PS/2 mouse and/or keyboard with the computer turned off. Then if that doesn't work, maybe try a USB mouse or keyboard, which we don't have. If that doesn't work ma... Read more

Okay so this is my wifes computer, its an old, Dell dimension 2400.

Okay, so the problem started with the USB drives not working properly... they would not recognize any new hardware, but still recognized things that had already been installed, and would work them just fine.

she tried to use microsofts website to solve the problem, but to use the "fix it for me" option, she had to download and instal the .net framework 2 or higher, so she installed 4 because it was the newest.

after she restarted her computer, her computer no longer recognized her PS/2 keyboard or mouse.

however, on start up, it will recognize the keyboard, because you can hit F2, F8 and F12 to go to the different menus, and use the keyboard just fine.
I have no clue what the problem is... but does anyone have anyide of how to fix it? not much you can do when the keyboard and mouse don't work.

thanks :3

also, any sugestions on how to fix the USB problem after the keyboard/mouse problem would be appreciated ^.^

A:PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse not working.

dells are hell for this issue, press delete or watch for the quick flash up on post saying something like press f12 for boot up configurations or bios
anyhow get to bios eventually, look for usb and keyboard support make sure its enabled

after go to dells utility which all dells have usually press f10 on start up to access full range of tools , there are usb port checks available there

if you end up back at square one with no improvmnet, go to device manager start run type devmgmt.msc check no red Xs in there or yellows

if that is ok then possible reinstallation required and/or your mobo is faulty (very common on dells)

Okay you have probably read similar posts (well I was reading some before to get some ideas on my problem)

pretty much my usb mouse doesn't get any power(so no red laser light)
I've tried another USB mouse (in both ports ofcourse) and they didn't work.
I put a flash drive in it and it did respond.

soo I can't get my screen seems to work fine (though it stays on standby so I just see a black screen)

my Keyboard seems to get a little bit of power it works fine when you just turn it on, then after a little while you can't turn capslock on, numlock on/off

also at first when my comp/monitor is turned on I can turn my monitor on and off but then again after a while it won't let me turn it off again.

I've opened my comp up taken everything out then back in again but I have the same problem.

this all happened after my dad went to take the comp out of my room.

Anyone have any ideas on what the problem could possibly be?

Where do I find this USB viewable option as I am connected by USB?

I went to set up (F2 at boot) > and then searched around for anything that relates to USB and found that USB is enabled and on high speed. Hope that is not it and I am missing something, because I still have no mouse or keyboard.

Keyboard and mouse are the ones that came with the Dell XPS 7100 system.

I'll try different USB ports and report back...didn't make a difference.
What am I missing? (except for my mouse and

I have a microinnovations wireless keyboard/mouse. I've had the keyboard installed for several years and the mouse was uninstalled and replaced with something else. All of a sudden the keyboard stopped working. I uninstalled and reinstalled not realizing that the driver for the mouse was also reinstalled. I turned off my computer and now I have no mouse and no keyboard working. Is there any way I can get into my user account to uninstall the keyboard/mouse that don't work and put in another one?
Thanks for your help.

I've been trying to figure out how to get my mouse and keyboard working against once I reach my Win7Pro desktop. I uninstalled AMD Catalyst Center a few weeks ago since I don't game, but since then, my mouse and keyboard don't work at all when I reach my desktop.

I can get into my BIOS, but no attempts to recover or repair have worked. I've tried to reinstall Win7Pro and 8.1 and 10, but that has failed, too.

Booting straight from a flashdrive just doesn't happen. I have an Xi3 X7A computer module, and that company doesn't even reply to my requests for help. I just can't get anything going on my desktop where everything is intact, with a functioning mouse and keyboard.

We have several new Lenovo Thinkpad T450 laptops running Win 7, 64bit, 8gb ram, with the Lenovo Thinkpad Ultra Dock. Here's the scenario. I login to these T450's from another location using RDP from another Windows 7 pc\laptop. When finishned I disconnect the RDP session or logout. Now I'm back at the host laptop and the keyboard\mouse connected to the Ultra dock are non-responsive. So not locked out, they don't respond. The only way in is by restart of the laptop or occasionally I can unlpug and re-connect the keyboard and mouse. I've been hunting online and have had little luck. At first remote desktop didn't like to consistantly work so i found an artticle that had me update drives, network, vid card. Then another artilce that said to 'Do not play' audio during the RDP session. This helped so I can now consistantly RDP to the laptop. Still can't find information on why the keyboard become non-responsive. I'm not seeing drivers for the Ultra dock as I thought that could be the issue. Any assitance is appreciated. Thank you, Jim

A:Remote Desktop locks the keyboard\mouse after term...

We have multiple users complaining about this issue in our organization. We have T450s laptops running Windows 7 x64, 12 GB ram and with Lenovo Thinkpad Ultra Dock. It usually works to wait a few minutes (sometimes up to 10 min) before the keyboard and mouse that is attached to the dock starts working again. It would be great to get a solution to this problem. Thanks, Andri

Power supply light is on and solid. Fans are on. Monitor is on just not getting input from case. Wall outlets are fine. Cables are fine. Dust gone. I unplugged and replugged all the connections I could get to. We replaced the 2032 coin battery, but then when it didn't work we put the old one back, the way it was. We removed RAM to look at it and I assured it's back in place.

I just got my desktop 800 and after setting it up am not getting anything from the Keyboard or Mouse?
batteries are brand new, when plugging in the USB receiver it said the drivers installed properly?
cannot get either to do anything ie, move cursor, scroll, etc
I dont know what could be causing this? everything checks out?
seems from further google searching this is a very common problem and is due to faulty USB recievers.
Guess i will have to return the product for refund or exchange.

I think that my computer is infected with spyware and adware. I've scanned my computer and found that malware and spyware infected it as I downloaded some freeware two days ago. After that I installed a antispyware StopZilla to block these malwares and spywares.
When I turn on my computer, Windows XP is running but it shows only the empty desktop and no taskbar. I click mouse and keyboard but doesn't work at all. please, tell me what to do?

A:My desktop icons are disappeared and mouse and keyboard are frozen

The best thing to do is to format the partition on which you installed Windows and reinstall again.
And this time make sure you install a firewall (like Zone Alarm - and an antivirus program (I recomend NOD32 - Also, try to use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. You can get it at .

Good luck.
