Hardened UNC Paths - Copy/Paste Issue

Q: Hardened UNC Paths - Copy/Paste Issue

We enabled hardened UNC paths in our environment and have ran into a weird issue. We are no longer able to copy and paste within the same share. There is no error, when you click "paste" nothing happens. We have a department
that uses a custom application and that application makes a copy of a template before editing the newly created copy. This process is now completely broken. We only see it when copying/pasting from the same share. If you copy/paste locally
or another share, it is fine. I've been searching and cannot find any info on this issue. As soon as we disable the unc path hardening, it works again. Anybody have any ideas?

Whenever we copy and paste a formatted text which has number and bulletins in it, the paste functionality losses the formatting of text and re-orders the numbers are 1,2,3 and 1,2,3 instead of 1,2,3,4,5,6. The editor is developed using ExtJs and the copy

When IE7 launched MS had changed something to stop the user copy/pasting in urls in this format.

Now this was fixable by a reg file and worked in IE7+IE8 in XP+Vista 32+64.

I cannot however get it to work in Windows 7 (64bit unsure on 32bit).

I use my desktop computer and my laptop interchangeably to go to the same web page and copy of paste it to MS Word 2007. Both computers are Windows 7 64-bit. When I use my desktop WIndows 7 Professional, I can copy and paste the entire web page with all formatting into word. When I use my laptop Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate, I copy of paste the same web page to the same MS Word 2007 program, it paste as text without the formatting (bold and regular text in particular which I need). Any way of using copy and paste to retain formattinig?

Check to see that your copy/paste settings in your word program on your laptop are the same as on the desktop.

For reasons of stability and to be able to access 8GB of RAM, I am using windows 2003 server Enterprise as my desktop OS. Copy and Paste do not work or work intermittently. Right click copy doesnt work, nor Edit -> Copy. I am certain there is some crazy setting in Server to disable copy/Paste or something to do with the mouse resolution. I have check the IE security settings and copy and past are enable. This happens if trying to copy text or files. I have seen this error mentioned elsewhere in post since 2003 and no one seems to have a fix for it. Anyone have an epiphany??? Anyone?

Hello All,

Having a strange issue with copy/paste that I've never encountered before.

The Setup: Two different systems both running Windows XP sp3. Both systems were built around the same time and had the OS installed simultaneously. However, when I attempt copy files off of a DVD to the hard drive, they behave differently.

Scenario: DVD containing multiple directories (directory1, directory2, etc etc) with various excel spreadsheets. What I'm trying to do is copy files from multiple directories at once onto my local HD. What I typically do is open up a search window and do my search. The search brings up the files I want, each is in a different folder on the DVD. I then select the files it found and drag them onto my HD. Here is where the problem comes in.

One system will do as it is supposed to do and only copy the files I have selected onto my HD (for example, 6 excel files from multiple directories) The other system however, copies over ALL the contents of the DVD onto my HD. This is a very odd problem that I've never seen before but I'm guessing has something to do with the way XP is setup to copy over multiple files from a DVD/CD to the HD. One other note, if I copy over each file one by one from the system in question, it works. But like I said, when I try to do more than one file it just simply copies over ALL the contents of the folder as opposed to just the files I've selected.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

This is the first time I encountered a issue like this.

I have a CD that contains a bunch of files. I created a New Folder on my desktop to copy all the contents on that CD to the new folder. When I highlight all and press Ctrl + C then Ctrl + V to copy to the new folder the transfer bar appears showing the status of the transfer.

The strange thing is after it's done copying to the new folder the new folder is empty!?!

Then I tried to copy the contents of the CD again, this time it worked.

Very weird, has anyone encountered this problem before?

When using Microsoft Word downloading text and pictures from the web: -
If I wish to download (say) a letter containing images or the text I have been directed to for downloading, I copy the text and pictures, but when I want to paste into word the first image is picked up on the clipboard but when I then try to copy the file to an MSword document, the text is copied perfectly but then the first image from the original is copied into every image space right down to the end of the document. All other images from the original, are ignored and the 'final' document in Msoft word has a perfect copy of the text with a string of image copies - all the same throughout the copied document.

How can this be corrected please?

With my Windows 7 Pro 32bit laptop(fully updated) I have issues with copy and paste. When I copy text from a file/document and then paste it into another file/document I have one of three things happen. One it will copy the text correctly, though if I press enter to go to a new line its as if the clipboard was emptied because I cannot paste again, two it will not paste anything as if I didn't copy before, or three it will paste a screenshot of what is currently on my screen into the document.

If it does copy and paste correctly then when I open a new file or folder, the clipboard will empty so I can't paste the same thing into two different documents unless both documents were open when I fist copied the text. This issue also occurs whe trying to copy/cut files and move them to a new/different directory(if the paste location is not already open then the clipboard appears to empty). I do not have this issue at all with my Windows7 Home premium 64bit install on my other machine.

Any help as to how to resove this would be appreciated.

I'm not sure why this is happening, but what happens if you copy and paste to Notepad first, then copy and paste the text from there to another file/document.

I know this sounds like the long way around, but see if it works.

I have a very strange copy and paste issue.
If I select text, press CTRL+C and then go into word (and some other text editors) and press CTRL+V it just pastes a black oval. If I press CTRL+C twice then CRTL+V then it pastes the text. If I press CTRL+V three times its an oval again.

Sounds like Ctrl+C is being intercepted by some program and not being passed to Windows unless it's pressed twice in a row.

Try it ins Safe Mode, see if it still happens.

Hello! ^__^ I did a search and I cannot find anything that is quite the same problem I'm having, so if I have overlooked it please direct me and disregard my query.

First off, I'll list my computer specs and any USB hardware attached:

Vista 64bit Home Premium SP1
NVIDIA 9800GT
DVD+-RW DL with Labelfish
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 Quad Core
6 GB DDR2 Dual-Channel RAM
15-in-1 Media Card Reader with Smart Copy
Microsoft LifeChat LX 3000 USB Headset
Microsoft USB Webcam

*Norton Internet Security 2008
*Running the System Adminstrator Account.
*All Windows Updates are current and up-to-date.

Problem: When using Vista Explorer, dragging and dropping--as well as using the Edit menu to copy and Paste--for files or folders I would receive a system ding sound and then nothing would happen. The files would not copy, cut, paste, or move. Deleting files was not an issue and seemed to be the only thing that would work.

I did a Startup Repair with my OEM disk which only partially fixed the problem. I am now able to drag and drop files and folders, but I am still unable to use the Edit function of Copy and Paste, right click Copy and Paste, or keyboard shortcuts CTRL C and CTRL V (receive the system ding sound and nothing happens).

I have tried it in numerous folders within the C-drive as well as removable devices such an external HDD or a USB flashdrive.

I hope that is enough information for someone to help. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I'm new to this list and hope that someone can assist. There is an issue that we have with MS Outlook 2000 that should be able to be resolved. I have a personal address book distribution list with several hundred names on it. What I want to do is import (copy/paste) these names into an already existing global address distribution list. Right now, it appears there is no way to do this. When I right click to paste the names, the cut/copy/paste functions are all inactive. It seems the only way to add all of these hundreds of names is to insert them individually, which is quite a pain and quite time consuming. Does anyone know if there is a fix or patch available fpr MS Outlook 2000 to resolve this issue? There's just got to be. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

I remote desktop from my laptop to my desktop about half the day, and within the last couple months my clipboard functionality has broke. The clipboard will stop syncing, and when I stop/start rdpclip on the desktop, it fixes it sometimes, but sometimes it doesn't and I have to disconnect/reconnect from remote desktop. I recently reinstalled the desktop from win xp to win 7 (and changed ip), and the issue is still happening, so I thought it must be something on my laptop.

I am facing an issue on my HP ProBook 640 G1 which is a 32 bit operating system with OS Windows 7 professional with service pack 1. Last windows update was in Aug 2015.
The issue I am facing is since day 1 when I started using this laptop - which was on 17-Oct-2014.
Whenever I copy text and move b/w windows and if I do not land on the correct window in the first go I lose the coped text and I have to redo the copy. So to give an example:
I have 5 windows open MS word, notepad, google chrome, IE explorer and Firefox. If I want to select text from chrome and want to paste it in notepad then:
1. I will select (highlight) the text in chrome and hit ctrl + c
2. use alt+tab to navigate b/w my open windows. So if I accidentally landed on Firefox and then navigate again using alt+tab to go to notepad and hit ctrl + V then nothing happens. the copied text is lost and i do not get anything in my notepad.
3. I have to go back to chrome where the text will still be highlighted and hit ctrl+c and come back to notepad (in one go) and hit ctrl + v and this time the text is copied.
I work in a support team and generally have minimum of 10 windows open and moving b/w applications to check stuff. This issue of copy and paste slows me down.
This happens every time and doesn't matter if I am using mouse to copy and paste and to navigate or use key board short-cuts.

I've actually never noticed this problem until recently I've started to work with both architectures (x86 & x64) due to programming reasons.

I've noticed that whenever I use a program that is x86 the Copy/Paste functionality doesn't works I mean, nothing works, CTRL +C / CTRL +V does nothing and the right click feature doesn't helps neither... whenever I copy something is like the CTRL +C would act as a clipboard "resetter" and CTRL + V pastes a null character AKA nothingness.

now whenever I use a x64 of that same program, it works everything just fine!

What could be the issue here?

Hi all,

I am having a formatting problem with PowerPoint 2007.

I have changed my Slide Master to how I want it, but I wanted to be 100% sure that if later down the line I want to amend, for arguments sake, the font colour, that it would amed everything. So, I created a document using the template I have. I then copied some text from another PowerPoint file (copied the text only, not the text box).

1. How can I paste this text so that it keeps the text format of the new document, not the text format of the old document I copied it from?

2. Any text that I have copied and pasted into the new document will not change if I go and amend the Slide Master. Why is this so, and is there a way around this?

I have been sat trying to sort this out for what seems like an age (ok, maybe all morning!), and I can't figure it out myself!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:PowerPoint 2007 - Slide Master (Copy/Paste) Issue

Hello Glenn -

Regarding your "paste" format issue - common but easy to solve.

The cause is the Office default setting for the PASTE function. However, there are other PASTE options if you invoke the correct function.

I do this by using a custom Quick Access Toolbar in all Office programs. There I add the custom buttons I use or need the most or those that offer greater functionality. The PASTE function is one of those (as is the FIND function). As an example of a custom toolbar, here is my Word 2010 Quick Access Toolbar. Note I place it below the ribbon then collapse the ribbon.

My Word 2010 Quick Access Toolbar

To use the expanded PASTE functionality, copy the desired text from your source (PPT, text, HTML, whatever), select the insertion point in the target PowerPoint slide, then click the drop down arrow on the PASTE button. Scroll down and select Unformatted Text, then click the OK button. The clipboard content is pasted using the target location formatting.

Here are the steps when using PowerPoint 2007 (note that 2010 has an additional PASTE function in the Toolbar Commands list).

1. Open PowerPoint and click the Office orb (upper left corner).
2. In the dialog window that opens, click the PowerPoint Options button (near the button center).

3. The PowerPoint Options window opens.
4. Click on Customize in the left side column.

I have been using Microsoft Office Excel (2007) and the copy paste, copy Special paste functions have worked fined. Recently Copy paste does not work every time, the cell that I am copying from does not highlight and when selecting paste, nothing is pasted. When selecting Special Paset, I don't get all the options for copying All, Formulas, Values etc, I only get the option to Paste as Unicode Text or Text.

I tried the copy paste function in Word, this works but does not copy the format, only text is copied. I have restarted the computer, but this does not change anything. These functions have always worked in the past, this has only become an issue after I installed Firefox on my computer. I don't know if the two are related or just a coincident.

Before I re install MS Office, I would like to see if this can be resolved

G'day everyone

Under Windows XP I used a program called Piky Basket which had a right-click feature that allowed me to copy the full paths of selected files to the clipboard. This feature worked on multiple files, even in search results from e.g. Windows' own search utility and e.g. Voidtools' Everything. I want to be able to do the same in Windows 7.

Sadly, Piky Basket does not work on my system (Win7, 64), and the version of Piky Basket that does work on my system doesn't have this feature anymore.

The built-in "Copy as path" in Windows does work on multiple files, but only if those files are all in the same folder (which is not the case in search results). The same applies to SendTo Toys -- can only copy multiple paths if they're all in the same folder.

Dengdun's OpenXX works fine on search results, but copies a maximum of 15 paths (why???).

Jarle Aase's CopyPath copies only one path at a time... and this applies to many of the nameless similar utilities floating about the web.

Ninotech Path Copy insists on installing the 32 bit version of it (even if I remove the previous version), and does not add anything to the context menu that I can see.

Any ideas about how I can copy full paths of files to the clipboard, even in search results?

Thanks
Samuel

A:transfer data through windows 7 by copy and paste perfect copy?

There is no reason why using copy and paste won't give you a perfect copy and in my view it's more reliable than using the Windows backup utility.

One program I've found invaluable is Microsoft's SyncToy, which you can download here: Download: SyncToy 2.1 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

It will sync files between folders of the same name on two separate drives or partitions ( I always use the Echo procedure).

You might also want to consider using Windows 7's Robocopy function.

I just purchased a pre-owned Lenovo T420 laptop with Windows 7, but amazingly, over these many years, I've never had to back up my OS before because someone (my tech guy mostly) had always done it for me. Anyhow, while I do intend to make a full system backup copy, which I have no doubt will include the Windows 7 OS, I would also like to create a backup (disk) copy of my OS only since no install disks came with the computer. I can load the Windows 7 OS onto an 80Mb CD, but the entire hard disk backup will take many gigabytes and I intend to use a 32 Gb flash drive for that purpose.

My first and essential question is, can I create a Windows 7 Pro "restore" disk by just copying and pasting the entire "Windows" file on my hard drive to a CD or Flash drive...or is there more to it than that?

When I started to create a backup copy of the entire disk using the Windows backup program, I took particular notice to the
fact that (after I selected the custom selection option rather than the automatic selection for which files to copy) that the Windows file was no longer listed on the "C" drive menu provided in the backup program. It is certainly listed on my "C" drive when I bring it up directly, so can anyone explain to me quickly what that's all about?

Hello,

I've been having this problem for a while and I can really use some help now. When I try to copy & paste any files, folders, pictures, etc.. it will not work. Copy & paste to different folder or different screen, etc. An error message box will pop up saying - windows explorer has stop working then it disappears and a 2nd message box will pop up saying - windows explorer is restarting. Then shuts down the folder that's open. However I can " Cut and Paste or Drag a file to a different location" It just won't copy and paste.

Files that I'm trying to copy and paste are not anything special. It's all words, excel, power point, pictures, even folders etc...

It just won't copy and paste but again I can cut and paste.

Any ideas?

Thank you so much.

A:Windows 7 will not copy & paste but it'll cut & paste

Hello and welcome to Seven Forums.

Go to your Start menu and type CMD, you will see at the top of the window CMD.exe.
Right click on it and left click Run as Administrator.
In the window that will open type the following and hit enter.
sfc /scannow

Let the system run and it will find any problems and repair them.
Re-boot and do it all again for either 3 times or until no issues are found.

Hi all,

Please let me know which one takes long time. Cut+Copy+Paste or Copy+Paste?

A:copy paste vs cut paste

The only difference between cut+paste and copy+paste is that copy duplicates the file in a new location and stops, cut duplicates the file then deletes the original. So cut has one more operation which will take a little longer, but not significantly.

One exception is if you move (cut+paste) a file to a different location on the same drive partition, the file doesn't actually have to be copied, it can be left where it is and just the file directory changed so it shows in a different folder. This is much faster than copying the entire file. So moving within the same drive letter, copy+paste takes longer than cut+paste.

I guess this may be a tiny bit off the subject here, but I am attempting this in windows 7.

I have a program file manager tool called 'Directory Opus' that is capable of calling windows external programs and passing them the current directory the file manager is sitting on.

So far so good.

Now I want to call a cygwin (linux/unix emulator for windows) terminal with that file manager.

Checking properties on the cygwin Icon I got the path: C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico -

So it is a path to a command and an argument to that command.

Actually I guess it is 2 arguments to a command since I think '-' in that position means to feed anything on STDIN to the command. At least that would be true in unix shell programming.

So using the Directory opus setup I pass this call:
'@async:C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico - <and here add {s}>'

So the call ends up:
'@async:C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico - {s}'

That call does just what it is supposed to. It passed the current file absolute address however cygwin terminal does not understand the windows path notation. If I were passing it: C:\subdir\blah\ It would just say 'No such file' Cygwin terminal wants to see /cygdrive/c/subdir/blah Or at least I think that is what is happing.

So to cut to the chase.... I'd like to put a little wrapper to Cygwin terminal in there with the code necessary to convert 'C:\subdir\blah\' to '/cygdrive/c/subdir/blah/'

But, I do not know how ... Read more

Hey! I'm a newbie aswell. I use winXP, and not win2000, but I think it is probably very similar in structure. You can speed up or slow down the speed of the mouse, I think, in the control panel. Just click on the mouse icon, and when the properties box opens, find mouse-click speed, and adjust it to your requirements.

Hi Roxiisco,

Strange post, this - It must be where you're trying to copy from. What I recommend is that you open-up a new Wordpad/Notepad document, type some text in there and then select it so that is shows with a layer over it. Once you have this, right-click and attempt to Copy.

I just registered for an account at on a certain website. It is a website for me to check particular financial transactions with this particular company. The specifics aren't important but there was something that happened that has me completely baffled.

When I entered my email address I had to enter it twice for confirmation and instead of actually typing it in again I did a copy and paste, as I have done many times before with other registrations on other websites. However, this particular website somehow knew that I had pasted the data into the field and generated an error message that said copy and paste not allowed.

How can they tell when data has been pasted rather than actually typed?

Thanks...Randy

I just moved back to Windows from being on a Mac for several years. The only thing I truly miss is the way that the "apple" key worked. You could switch between open programs and do copy, cut, paste, etc commands with it. It was nice to be able to do everything with one key.

My question is would there be a way to assign the alt key to do the same functions as the ctrl key? I'd still like to be able to use it for alt+tab function, but being able to do copy and paste with it as well would be awesome.

Thanks!

Loss of normal Windows functions...may indicate malware or corrupt system files.

Such may also indicate a need to run chkdsk /r and defrag the system.

Running sfc /scannow or a repair install are normal attempts to overcome missing/corrupt system files.

I tend to start with the easiest attempts first...chkdsk /r and defrag.

Elimination of malware is an ongoing system maintenance security procedure, taking place at all times.

OK Here is my situation...

Hard drive crashed and had to get back up and running ASAP so I took computer to Best Buy for Geek Squad to repair same. I did not have System Disks but they managed to reinstall my OS (Windows 7 64 bit) along with all of my drivers - the computer is a Dell Inspiron.

Everything is running good except one of the programs I use on a normal basis. It is an HTML Editor called Coffee Cup and I noticed I had lost the ability to copy and paste in it (which is vital)

The copy function appears to be working but it will not paste (nothing happens) At first it seemed to only affect this program but then I noticed that it also was happening on another program when I was re-installing it yesterday and I tried to copy and paste my registration license key and nothing would happen.

The weird thing is I can copy and paste fine in notepad and word - thats how I confirmed the copy function is working because when it would not paste in the Coffee Cup Program I opened up word and did a paste and it worked.

Tried some trouble shotting.... contacted Coffee Cup Programmers (They are stumped) - did a re-install of the coffee cup program (didnt work). Then I tried to trouble shoot and see what was causing the problem. I noticed that whenever I opened my Firefox browser window the problem happened. I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop. When I am using Internet Explorer (and possibly other applications), I am unable to select/copy/paste a small amount of text. I can do it using Ctl C only if I select the "Select All" option, but cannot if just trying to highlight a line or 2. This is what happens: when I try to select a line, a plus sign with a dotted-line box highlights the area (similar to creating a text box), then, a window comes up that says "Clip, Print, or Use Standard Selection". Doing the clip puts it in a clip book, but when I try to retreive it, it will not work. Doing Ctl C will not copy it. Do I have an option set incorrectly on my computer? Or, am I just being clueless since I'm used to a Mac. Please help if you can.

I cannot copy from a Word or Excel document to either Word, Excel or to the body of Mail. The copy part works but the paste option is still grayed out. Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V is not working either. Can someone please help.

A:Copy and paste

What you can paste depends on the type and format of what is copied, and if that data type is acceptable to where you want to paste it. Do a test where you only copy/paste plain text and see it that works. In Notepad for example.

You can also try Ctrl+Shift+V as paste method for copied text. That will skip any formatting and only paste plain text.

In Word/Excel try the Paste Special tool to maybe get a hint if any other paste methods is possible. Or view the Clipboard(from the Home tab) and verify that what you copy is really copied to the Clipboard.

Left click mouse, highlight area that you want to copy, and then right click and hit copy. Go to the new file, right click and hit paste. If this does not work let us know.

A good deal of the time when I try to copy and paste to MS Word from the internet I get an error message from MS advising that Word needs to close. Their answer to my problem is to buy a new Word package. I can paste to notebook then copy and paste to Word but thatís a lot of extra work and sometimes the document doesnít format the same. Is there another solution?

A:not able to copy and paste help me out

Windows 8 supports cut and paste using ctrl + c to copy and ctrl + v to paste. Alternatively you can select and right click with your mouse or touch pad.

Hi,

Yesterday I got hit with some sort of virus, ironically, whilst doing an update using Sunbelt Vipre Antivirus, which I think may be the sasser worm or blaster or something. I'm not really a technical person so I don't know. But for whatever reason all of my "human interface devices" or whatever they're called (printer, scanner, speakers, etc.), internet connections, and copy/paste and I'm sure a whole bunch of other things have been disconnected or malfunction. I was thinking about trying to back up my data on an external hard drive and then wipe the computer's memory, but I can't copy/paste anything, so I tried it with a CD and that didn't work either.

So then I searched around online and found this site, but when I check services.msc and try to restart clipbook/network DDE DSDM/DDE, when I right click on these things, they're all grayed out, so I can't restart any of them!

Any idea what to do? This matter has become critical now!!!

Hey,

Does anyone know of an app that can be used for cleaning the desktop? I would to be able to highlight the files I want to place into a folder (Desktop Archive) and in one click have the files move into the folder off of the desktop. Can this be done with the desktop cleanup wizard? Forgive me is this is a simple question.

Thanks,

Jeffrey Kevin Pry

Have you tried 'send to' --> in the dropdown menu? You can also use the 'drag and drop' method too.
