I bought a brand "new" Lenovo G70-80 from BestBuy a couple of weeks ago. I never noticed until last night but the battery is not charging even though the adapter is plugged in. Anyone else have the same issue and if so, were you able to get a replacement for your adapter and/or battery?

One day while using my laptop, the battery of my laptop was about to drain completely so I plugged it in. But the battery was not charging. I changed the plug point thinking there was some problem with the socket but still it did not worked. I removed the battery, reinserted it and tried to charge again but the problem still presisted. Then I removed my battery and plugged in the laptop. The laptop was working fine. Keeping the laptop plugged in (laptop shut down) and reinserted the battery. The battery charged for a while then the power button and power light (in the front on the edge of the body) started blinking. Therefore, I removed my battery. So now I charge my battery by first plugging in the laptop (battery removed) and then reinserting the battery. The blinking poblem also occurs very often.  Also when the battery is attached to the laptop and I try to charge it the laptop does not powers up. Model: Lenovo B40

hello, I have a lenovo g50-45 laptop. It's a great laptop but recently I have been having a lot of trouble with the battery. Afew days ago, I started noticing that while the computer is plugged in to power, the battery always stays at 0%. It says that it is "charging" but it remains always at 0%. The Lenovo Energy Maneger says that "the battery is weak and needs to be replaced". I tried to do a "gauge reset" but it did not do anything. Under my laptop, the region under the power connection is very how while the battery is very cold.  I am not sure what's going on. Can anyone help? It is unique because it says that the laptop is 'charging' yet the battery always stays at 0% and does not actually charge. I suspect its the "Lenovo Energy Manager" that is preventing the battery from charging because it thinks that the battery needs to be replaced. I tried uninstalling the "Lenovo Energy Manager" but I am not sure how to do it. It does not show up in the list of programs in control panel. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Hi...

I am having a problem with my laptop computer. I figured out that my laptop, when being charged or using the Power Outlet, runs at 100% CPU at times, and slows me down when running and working on some open applications. At first I thought I had tons of spyware or even a virus, and even posted a Hijackthis file here. Nothing was found.
I figured out that my cpu runs at 100% when using the power outlet, or when my computer is chargnig. When I unplug the powercord and use the battery life, everything runs GREAT!!!!! my cpu drops to a normal 4-8% usage with multiple applications running. WEIRD huh? Can anyone relate to this ?? Is this and indication that my battery is going bad???? Can someone help me with this or suggest what is going on? I am running windows XP home edition, and have a compac presario 1500 series. Recently my T410 laptop has had issues with charging the battery, the battery is plugged in and not charging.I have attempted updating the firmware for the battery, it failes half way through as the battery cannot be not identified. The lenovo power mannager does not resolve the issue either as it cannot detect the battery. Any advice on diagnostics or resolutions would be greatly appreciated, as after contacting lenovo support, they simply told me to replace the battery. Which I am happy to do but only as a last resort.

The thinkpad hasn't been used for nearly a year and two months since i purchased it from my friend. Lenovo Power Manager recongnized the battery for a few seconds then says:  Could not detect battery, please reinsert battery or recharge the battery. I applied double sided tape to the thinkpad battery so it wouldn't wobble. Still the same problem. Battery was purchased 2014-06-04.It is an aftermarket battery.

Okay, so my keyboard dock works fine. I restarted it once (paperclip method) after dying on me, but afterwards nothing was really wrong with it. Now, the tablet's battery is acting funny. At first, I thought it was just my keyboard dock not charging my tablet, so I detatched the keyboard, and the tablet completely shut off. I plugged the AC adapter into the tablet, and it came back to life, but it would not charge at all. The keyboard dock would be at 100%, but the tablet itself would only be at 8%. I have installed the Lenovo Dependency Package thing and the firmware update, but it didn't change anything. Now, even though it says (plugged in, charging) on my tablet, it's not really charging. So, whenever I unplug the tablet or detatch the tablet from the keyboard dock, the system completely turns off because it's only at 8%. Please help me! Thank you!  EDIT: Okay, so I unplugged the AC adapter while the keyboard dock was on and then Battery #1, the tablet battery, drained down to 0%, and its status is now Plugged in, not charging, while Battery #2 is plugged in, charging. I also got a pop up notification saying there's an error in battery #1, see replacement options. I clicked it, but it was a dead browser link. Also, when I go to the Support app, it says under messages that my battery is not valid... but I don't know how that happened. I've only had my Helix for about 2 months now.

Hi,I have a Lenovo Z50-70 running Windows 8.1. The laptop is relatively new, bought in Jan. 2015.Some time ago, the original battery suddenly started to have a problem where it would say 45% available, plugged in, not charging. No matter what fixes I tried (after looking through a lot of articles, posts, comments, etc.), nothing made the battery start charging again. It always stays at 45%. Also the battery light/indicator on the front of the laptop is always blinking white. So I got a new battery, put it in hoping that it would work and charge up to 100%, but the new battery is having exactly the same problem as the original old one! It will only charge up to 45%, then it says plugged in not charging. The battery light is again always blinking white. What do I do? How can this be fixed? What's going on?Appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

A:Lenovo Z50-70 battery plugged in not charging, won't charge no matter what I do

Sounds like it may be either the charger or the charging port at fault here.  However, I have a couple of questions...1. Does the battery charge increase at all if you leave the machine turned off and plugged in, or does it still report 45%?2. Does it power on when only on battery power?3. Was the new battery a new, genuine Lenovo part? There seem to be a lot of people reporting similar issues with this model unfortunately.

I am becoming more and more concerned about my laptop's battery each and every passing day. When I check the bottom right of my computer screen to check if my computer battery is completely charged, it says "0% available (plugged in, not charging)". I have had to buy two new batteries because of the same thing and they also read "0% available (plugged in, not charging)". When I unplug my laptop from the power source, it turns off automatically. I cannot even bother calling Dell to check this issue for me because I bought this computer off the street for $35.

My question in general is how do I get this problem fixed and how do I keep an eye on how my laptop computer charges correctly (or not)???

HP g6-1b60us Notebook PCHere is the situation and symptoms. Battery not charging. Battery icon indicates battery being charged, but it sits at 5%. Have bought a replacement HP battery and that battery will not charge also (it sits at 50%, which I assume is the initial charge it came with). Run the HP Support Assistant and both batteries fail the test saying that cell 4 is bad (cells 1 to 3 have charge, but cell 4 has a 0 reading, even in the new battery). (Is there a problem accessing/charging cell 4?)When the battery is installed and the AC adaptor is unplugged, and the laptop is turned off, the battery charge LED shows a white LED (red/amber indicates that it is charging the battery); now the only time the LED goes out is when the battery is physically removed. Before the problem began, the battery charge LED would be off when the battery was installed and the charger was not being used. Now the battery charge LED goes off only when the battery is physically removed. What I have tried:Cleaned the contacts.Bought a new HP battery.Tried the complete discharge method of turning the laptop off, removing the power cord and battery and holding the power on key for over 30 seconds.Have done safe restarts.Reset to HP recommended settings.Suggestions/recommendations?

Battery Issue - Lenovo V570 (Laptop) - Battery Model L09S6Y02

First off I for the most part do not use the battery. It is normally detached from the laptop. I only attach it to periodically charge it and test prior existing charges' performance.

O.K. here is the problem. I attach battery attachment, computer does not make it to the window screen more often than not. When it does, it freezes at the please wait loading screen.

I rarely use the battery at all, but I want all my equipment up and functional. It's life should still be good for I periodically recharge it. I think since I've had the laptop I've only recharged it a total of 6 or 7 times and that's been a year or so.

I, for the moment at least have the battery working power adapter attached. What did I do? I uninstalled Avast (freeware version) ?

I learned from prior experience that running two of any system utility software can cause problems, but it normally restricts itself to what it is protecting. Then I remembered: "If you remove the possible whatever is left however in probable must be the truth."

Next phase of testing is test the battery on it's own.

I have noticed lately that my battery for my laptop is always charging and is now hot to the touch. I have an Averatec 3260 series laptop. I purchased it three years ago and I have never had a problem with my battery until now. I hardly ever use the battery except for brief moments, so it never fully discharges and then recharges. I have calibrated it twice within the three years. Why would it constantly be charging now? My computer says that it is on 100% power and the battery isn't charging, but it still is getting that charge.

Hi, I got my laptop for over 5 yrs and we had a problem with power supply. When the lead was connected the power indication light was flickering and we needed to fiddle with the end of the lead connected to the laptop to have steady power . Now it just does nothing. I bought new power lead but the laptop is just dead. No light and no life what so ever. Question is: is it gone gone or should I try to buy new battery (the old one didnt hold any power at all). Help please

A:Laptop battery not charging

You don't need a battery to operate most laptops. You can and shoudl fact take out the battery and see if it works with just AC.

Otherwise you may have a damage jack in the laptop, they commonly break especially if the power cable required fiddling around with. It's also possible the new power adapter is faulty or that the previous one damaged the motherboard.

Dear Sir,
I use a Laptop with Windows 7 system. What is the right way of charging the battery?
1) Should I always keep the battery constantly charged from the mains while I operate the computer so that the charge level always remains at 100% OR
2) I should charge only intermittently i.e., I should use the laptop without charging the battery for some length of time and charge only when the battery charge level falls below say 30% or when the reminder pops up for charging the battery?
I normally use the computer for around 4 to 5 hours every day and often at one go.
Thanking You

I have an Alienware Sentia M3450 which is about 2 years old now and for the past couple of months, I have been completely tethered to an outlet as my battery will not charge. I called the tech support and of course i was told that my battery was dead, but that is not the case as i have tried a brand new battery with the same results. When the computer is on, the taskbar icon shows that it is charging constantly, but when the ac cable is unplugged, it continues to tell me that its charging. The problem with this is that if the ac cable is somehow jarred loose but not to the point of falling out of the socket, it does not tell me and unless i notice it quickly, the very small amount of battery power left depletes quickly and the computer shuts off, with no low battery warning or anything of the sort. I was thinking perhaps the problem lies in charging circuitry, but if someone has a better theory, I'm all ears. If it is found that the circuit board is the issue, where might i find that part? Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I have an Acer Aspire 5534-1096, and the battery will not charge, no matter what I try. If I plug the charger in without the battery inserted, the laptop will run perfectly fine. But, as the battery will not charge and is now dead, if I insert the battery with the AC adapter plugged in the laptop will power on for a few seconds, then will just die. I have tried replacing the battery; the issue persists. I know that the AC adapter works because the laptop will run solely off of it, and it will charge the battery of another laptop perfectly fine. I've tried reinstalling the BIOS with the latest version and holding the power button to release excess power. Nothing seems to fix it.
Do you think this could be a motherboard problem? I have removed the keyboard and shell, and there seems to be a cable in front of the DC power jack which says "TO I/O". Could it be an issue with that cable? I'm all ears, so if any of you has a suggestion that might work, that would be greatly appreciated. I'll post this with a picture of the I/O cable in front of the DC connector.
Thanks!

A:Laptop Battery not Charging

Hi johamanee24 and welcome to TSG.

Hard to tell exactly which cable you mean. The silver coloured cable comes from the screen, the red and black (and possibly white, can't see for sure) wires with the black sleeve with 125C on it carry the power from the DC socket to the motherboard and it looks like they connect underneath it. Not sure if the I/O label applies to those wires or not.

The trouble is the laptop wouldn't power on (without the battery in) if those wires were not connecting properly.

There's a lot of similar stuff on the 'Net about this but fitting a new battery is the recommended solution.
Was the 2nd battery you tried new ?

I bought a HP pavilion dv6 laptop! I just want to know is it bad if I leave my laptop charger connected all day even if its fully charged?

A:Charging laptop BATTERY!

Hello rnavagamuwa and welcome to Seven Forums.

You may get different opinions on this, but no. You shouldn't have any problems leaving the laptop plugged in to the AC power. Some people leave the AC adapter plugged in all the time when using the laptop at home. Others just remove the battery and run off of AC power. Still others (and this is what I do) will remove the AC adapter every so often and run on battery power only. When the low battery alert appears I plug the AC adapter back in and let the battery recharge.

Every modern battery has a limited number of charge/recharge cycles so eventually, every battery will lose its ability to hold a charge. This is usually a gradual process and you'll notice that instead of having 3 hours of battery time it's now 2 hours, and then 1 hour, etc.

Why do I leave the AC adapter plugged in? One primary reason. I live in an area that experiences frequent power outages. If the main power goes out I still have the laptop battery available so my laptop doesn't just shut down. The same thing could be accomplished with a backup Universal Power Supply.

Hello all. I have been experiencing this problem since I got this laptop from a friend about four years ago. It is a Dell Inspiron e1505. I have run XP, 7, 8, and Ubuntu all at different times, and each OS has always been unable to detect or charge the battery. I have tried several different cables, and at one point, I got a new battery, probably two years ago. It worked for a few months, and then stopped working after about 3 months. I am currently running the latest version of Ubuntu on the laptop. Any ideas on how I can get the battery to charge?

Is there any other way that i can charge the battery or fix the reciver/

Thanks

A:Charging a battery without laptop

Hi lightmas, and welcome to TSG.

You will probably not be able to find any kind of device that will charge the battery outside of the laptop. The laptop has specialized electronics between the charger input jack and the battery. The electronics limits the voltage and current to the battery to prevent fire and other hazards. Any kind of external charging hardware would need to be matched to that particular model of battery.

Depending on the exact nature of the failure of the power input jack (charger reciver?), a repair may be as simple as some careful re-soldering of the jack to the printed circuit board in the computer. More serious damage may require replacing the jack or the entire motherboard.

I don't know If I'm posting to the right thread, but whatever. As you can tell by the subject, my laptop is plugged in to a wall outlet, but it isn't charging, nor is the battery depleting when I use it. This problem only appeared some days ago. Below is a list of everything I have tried doing to fix this problem, as well as other information.  The wall outlet works fine, I plugged my phone into it and it started charging. The computer doesn't recharge to a certain percentage, it just sustains the battery percentage it has while it's plugged in. Uninstalling and Reinstalling Micorsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and Microsoft AC Adapter via the Device Manager did nothing, nor did installing new drivers for them. Resetting the BIOS didn't help. I checked to see if the battery was secure, so I removed it and made sure it was completely plugged in to the computer. It didn't help. Shutting down the computer, unplugging everything, and holding down the power button for 40 seconds didn't work. I can't and have never been able to turn on the computer without the battery, even if it's plugged in. The LED next to the charging port does blink three times when I try to turn on the computer without the battery while its plugged in, and it doesn't blink when it isn't plugged in, so it can't be a problem with the cord. I checked if the physical connection between the charging port and the rest of the computer was secure, and it is... It went from being able to charge a battery fully (100%), to not being able to charge beyond 98%, then 66%, then 30%, and now finally it says "0% availability (plugged in, charging)", but it never increases in charge.

Thus the laptop works when plugged into the charger, but will not switch on when attached only to the battery.

I have restarted the computer multiple times - first shutting the machine down, then unplugging it, removing the battery, holding the start button down for one minute, then reattaching the battery, plugging the charger back in and restarting the machine.

I have installed updates for "Batteries" (ie. Microsoft AC Adapter, Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, and Microsoft Composite Battery) in Device Manager.
I have also uninstalled the Microsoft ACPI Complaint Control Method Battery and shutdown and restarted the laptop repeatedly.

Just now I called Toshiba support and updated BIOS from 1.50 to 1.70, then restarted the computer, but again the battery will not charge.

I bought a new battery which showed that it was fully charged when when I attached it to my laptop, but when the charge depleted to 0%, I got the same message as with the other battery: "0% availability (plugged in, charging)".

I am really stumped. How else can I attempt to increase the battery charging capability of my laptop?

A:My laptop is plugged in, but battery is not charging

In my opinion old battery was definitely defective.
Is your new battery original Toshiba battery or some third part product?

When you start notebook without battery and put it in place when Windows is loaded does the problem persists?

Hey guys,
I have an Acer Aspire 5741-6073, and it would not charge past 40%, even with the power cord plugged in for several hours. I reported the issue to acer, they asked me to drain the battery then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any remaining charge. Then while the laptop is off leave it plugged in and charging for a couple of hours.

I did this, but t did not work, so I sent the laptop back to Acer. They claimed they fixed the issue, but my laptop only charges to 50-59% now. I am positive the meter is not reading properly, because it lasts 2-3 hours when starting on 40-50%. Is there a way to fix this issue? or to recalibrate the battery?

Thanks,
JKDManoj

A:Laptop Battery not charging past x %

Hi! JKDManoj, welcome to 7F

So far I have found this, the last set of numbers don't match, but here is the information on charging it, notice where I underlined it:

Quote:
The dell Aspire 5741G-334G50Mn battery packs isn't charging. What's the deal? New dell Aspire 5741G-334G50Mn battery packs is shipped in a discharged condition and must charged before use. We generally recommend an overnight charge (approximately twelve hours). Refer to the user's manual for charging instructions. Rechargeable dell laptop batteries should be cycled - fully charged and then fully discharged - two to four times initially to allow them to reach their full capacity. (Note: it is normal for a dell Aspire 5741G-334G50Mn battery packs to become warm to the touch during charging and discharging).

New dell laptop batteries are hard for the device to charge; they have never been fully charged and are therefore "unformed". Sometimes the device's charger will stop charging a new dell Aspire 5741G-334G50Mn battery packs before it is fully charged.

If this happens, remove the battery from the device and then reinsert it. The charge cycle should begin again. This may happen several times during the first battery charge. Don't worry; it's perfectly normal.

Dell Inspiron 1525. Has windows 7 Professional, SP1, 2gb ram, 64 bit OS, Intel Celeron 550 @2Ghz.

I've inherited this mess of a machine that I've finally cleaned up completely including bad windows files and such, using loads of software and help from majorgeeks. Machine at least now runs and recognizes key strokes, prior it didn't do much and using the software was anguishing.

Problem is the software the charity uses only works on laptops prior to windows 10. They can't afford a new laptop, nor the newer version of the software and hence this is the only laptop available. It does work but no battery, causing me difficulty.

Issue is the battery shows 1% all the time. It's not charging. I've been able to get it to show charging but it never actually charges and sooner or later it goes back to not charging. The Dell bios needs an update but the bios update requires 10% battery life and even using /forcestart in the dos prompt it fails.

I got a new power chord and a battery and to no avail.

I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Ran laptop down. Tried to update bios without luck due to 10% battery life error. Bios defaults all exist.

I ran some Dell battery dx http://www.dell.com/support/Article/us/en/19/266588/EN#Issue5 and it showed battery was fine. I ran from startup the Dell Dx and it doesn't show the battery even connected (out where you check bios), funny is even when I disconnected power cord, it still doesn't recog... Read more

As per the thread title, the battery is recognised as being present, but is not charging, and when the power is disconnected, will not run on battery power. I have come to the conclusion that it is most likely a hardware issue, see below.
Comptuer is the one in my 'System Specs', just on 2 years old, out of warranty period.
I have checked the battery connections and visually all is in order.
I have searched, and applied what appears to be a common fix for this, but did not change the situation;
>Disconnect AC
>Shutdown
>Remove battery
>Connect AC
>Startup
>In Device Manager, Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall >Shutdown
>Disconnect AC
>Insert battery
>Connect AC
>Startup
It runs normally using the power cord, so I am thinking that it is an issue with either the battery or something more sinister, within the computer/motherboard, as it was fine one moment, but not the next.

Prior to this the battery would last approx. 2 hours, and HW moniter showed it had around 30% wear, now shows 56% wear.

I have never had a battery suddenly die like this, but am thinking it is a distinct possiblity given the symptoms. Should I bite the bullet and order a new battery and hope that this is the fix? or is there likely a solution I have not come across?

Thanks in advance, Tim.

A:Laptop Battery - Plugged in, not charging.

Buying a new battery is an expensive way to test but it may be the only way unless you have a multi tester and can test your battery. Two hours seems like a very short time for a laptop to run on a full charge unless you are playing videos constantly.

I have had this issue with a MacBook Pro and it turned out to be a 4 pin connector under the keyboard that was faulty.

This one has had me confused for some time. I am nearly certain at this point that it is the motherboard that will need to be replaced, but I wanted to see if there was anybody here that has dealt with this issue that may offer a little insight on the situation.

Specs:

HP Pavillion DV4-1435dx
4 GB RAM
500 GB HDD
2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
Windows 7 x64

I started having several issues with this machine on boot, so I upgraded the BIOS, OS and RAM. This resolved most of the issues but now we come to the part of the story that has me stumped. The machine is having an unusual charging issue. If I were to remove AC power from the unit while the battery is plugged in, I will not be able to charge the battery again until I completely power the unit off, remove the battery, plug the AC adapter in, and replace the battery. The exception to this rule is if I power the unit completely off (or hibernate it) and remove the AC, I will be able to plug it back in anytime before I power that unit back on and it will function normally. I have since replaced both the AC adapter and the battery, but the issue persists. I have checked all of the advanced power options in the control panel. I have not altered the registry in any way as of yet because I believe this is a hardware issue.

If anybody has any insight into this issue, let me know. I would very much like to know at least what is causing it to justify buying a new mobo or any more parts for the machine.

Thanks,

Don

The power settings have no effect if Windows is not running.

Has the battery been calibrated so that it reads the correct percentage and the circuitry knows when to start charging?

How do you know when it is "working" or not?

I have a probook 4540s. I recently bought an aftermarket battery as my OEM battery was completely dead. But the problem with it is that, the battery only charges when the laptop is off. But while connected to outlet and on the battery does not take any charge. The laptop starts with only adapter or battery just fine. I checked by reducing processing power to see whether the battery takes any charge but nothing happens. It neither charges nor discharge. I used batteryBar software to see charging rate. Its flat zero all the time when the laptop is on. What can I do to overcome this issue.

Hello.

My laptop has suddenly stopped working properly. Its not the laptop so much as it is its ability to charge.

Sometimes it doesnt charge. I dont know exactly how, but if i move the laptop around sometimes it will work again. This means I have to try to manoeuvre the laptop carefully and then keep it perfectly still on a table or desk and then leave it, just to make it work.

So I dont know if its the battery or the cable that plugs into the laptop.

It wont be hard to figure out which one it is if I just buy a new battery, but Im trying to save myself some time and maybe money by figuring out which one it is first.

Is there anyway I can tell which one it is?

A:Laptop not charging. Battery or cable?

Hello, if you say that it does charge depending on how you 'maneuver' it, chances are that the problem is with your charging socket. You should have an indicator light that is on when the laptop is plugged into the ac outlet, so keep an eye for when it goes out. Another quick way to tell is to simply remove the battery, plug the laptop into the ac and try to start it, then while it's on, grab the plug near the socket and move it around. If the machine shuts off then you will know. There is a small chance that the plug at the end of the cable could be at fault but it is less likely. Loose / bad charging sockets are a common occurrence with Windows laptops.

Hi. I have a Compaq 1210US laptop running on Win XP. Once the battery is fully charged, the battery indicator light is supposed to turn off. What happens in my case is that the indicator light keeps flashing on and off slowly even after 12 hours of charging with the power off (still plugged in of course).

Under Power Options in Control Panel, the batter says it's 100% charged but also says it's still charging. Under Power Options, I've selected Never under every scheme, turned off hibernation and drained the battery completely, then fully recharged it several times but I still get the same issue.

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks.

I own a Toshiba Satellite P25 running Windows XP SP2.

I'm in a funny situation regarding my battery/battery charging that I've never heard about...I recently purchased a new battery because my old one wasn't holding a charge. The battery WILL charge but only when the laptop is powered off or in standby. When the power cord is inserted, the instant I power on, the charge light turns off. I've checked the power while in Windows and it reads "AC power, discharging" instead of "charging." On very rare occasions, the charge light on the laptop will remain on for a while after I turned off the computer but will eventually go out.

I've tried playing with the amount of plug I insert into the laptop, but it makes no difference. I'm suspecting it's a hardware problem with the actual port inside the laptop, like maybe it's loose? But that doesn't explain (IMO) why it only charges when the power is off. Or is it likely to be the power cord itself?

I'd love to hear what you pros think. Thanks in advance!

It's possible that the charger you are using doesn't provide enough amps to properly charge the device. Wonder if anyone's seen something like this... I just got a new battery for my Acer TravelMate 230, and it seems to be having a wee issue: the battery meter sits at 0% while it's plugged in, until after a couple hours it jumps to 75%, and won't go beyond there. If I unplug the power, it'll run for a good half hour with the meter at 75%, after which it drops to 0% again, although the laptop continues to run for a good hour-and-a-half or more.

The retailer suggested giving it three full charge/discharge cycles... it's on the third charge cycle now, and still sitting at 0% after almost an hour on AC. This doesn't seem right at all. This is the first time I've actually had to buy a new battery for a laptop - is this common?

A:Acer laptop battery charging problem?

I betcha' this is a calibration issue...

I can't find where I read it, just the other day, but I'm sure someone here is familiar with the process.

There's also a possibility that it's a counterfeit battery, even coming from a retailer...

I have a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527 running Vista which has been passed back to me by a family member since it no longer booted. The battery was not only dead but was down to 2.2 Volts from the original (nominal) 10.8 Volts. The laptop will not power up from the AC adapter whether the battery is installed or not.

I replaced the battery, battery pack PA3465U-1BRS, pluged in the adapter and got the following results:

- laptop booted
- the blue AC power LED was lit
- the yellow battery indicator was lit
- the battery icon, displayed charging
- the percent charge of the battery was slowly going down.

I measured the voltage at the adapter while the laptop was running, it was 19.4 Volts. The device is marked 19V.

I've saved a few files and now replacement battery is at 0% capacity.

many thanks in advance,

Hi there!

I have an Asus laptop running Windows 7 that is about 4 years old. Recently it stopped charging and would just die. Tried a bunch of things (using a different charger/ using a different battery from the exact same brand/series of laptop etc) to no avail. I took it to a guy to fix and it turned out to be the motherboard - which had to be replaced (ouch ).
Anyway, while this did fix the initial problem it unfortunately caused another.

My laptop thinks it is constantly plugged in and charging even though it is running on battery and losing charge. Because of this issue, I no longer get the notifications that my battery is low and it has caught me out!
I spoke to the guy who fixed my laptop to begin with and he has no idea why it is doing this, and also informed me that it's not great for the laptop either (which I was worried about).

I have played around with the battery options/notifications in settings but this does not help at all. I use my laptop a lot for full screen things (gaming, movies etc) so I'm unable to keep an eye on the battery level.

I'd rather avoid having to pay out again, so does anyone know of perhaps a software program that I can download that would create a pop up on the screen when the battery reaches low levels? The Windows 7 one was great for that as it would pop up over whatever you had playing in full screen.

I've searched google and forums and I'm running out of ideas. I've checked some of the threads h... Read more

Hi everyone, In January I bought a Lenovo laptop. The 500S-14ISK Laptop (ideapad) - Machine Type 80Q3. After a few weeks, the battery was not being charged anymore, and while I only used the laptop while on AC, the battery slowly depleted. Thus, it became unusable. The issue was fixed through the shop where I bought the laptop (which is a hassle because I live in another country than where the shop is). But now after I have gotten it back for two weeks, the problem has returned. The battery started to be stuck at 95%. Hovering over the battery icon gives a statement that the battery is not charging. Any ideas on what I could do? As stated, going back to the shop and let them fix it is not an option at this point. Notes:- The battery still depletes slowly between shutting of and starting again. When I shut it down one day and boot it up the next, the battery is still stuck but at one percentage point lower. - The Lenovo Settings program that pops up when I click on the big battery icon in the bottom right corner gives an interesting statement (It's in Dutch so I will translate as well as possible). "The AC (adapter) can't fully support your computer and should be repaced immediately."- I tried updating and reinstalling battery drivers etc but this didn't work. Any help would be appreciated.

WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS VERY DANGEROUS!

The laptop has customized electronic circuits inside that take the charger input voltage and safely limit the voltage and current used to charge the battery. Defeating any of those safety limits may cause ...

1) A safety fuse inside the battery may blow to prevent further damage to the battery pack.

2) The battery pack may burst into flames, possibly with toxic fumes.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused. Not sure if Machine # 1 or Machine # 2 is having the icon issue. Whichever machine isn't showing the icon ... try rebuilding the icon cache.

A:My laptop is showing Plugged in Not charging even after new battery and charger

Does the computer power on with the AC adapter and without the battery? If no, does power indicator light on the AC Adapter lit up ? Do hear a series of beeps or see any lights on the system? By the way, what your Dell model number and version of windows? Example: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10

Hello guys,

I have laptop Asus UL30A for more than 2 years with windows 7 home edition. Everything worked fine, but suddenly on change occurred:

The battery charging stops exactly at 33%. It is stated that "33% available (plugged in, charging)", but it never exceeds this value. Since it is that "nice" value (exactly 1/3) I am convinced, that it is not hardware or battery error, but something with the operating system and drivers.

(I know that in windows 8 is software, which allows to not charge a battery fully in order to extend its lifetime, but I don't have such a software in my windows 7).

Does anybody have an advice for me, how can I charge my laptop fully please???

Thanks a lot in advance.

A:Battery charging stop at 33% on my Asus laptop with windows 7

Hi welcome to the forum
Do you know anyone that has the same laptop that you could try their battery. Sounds to me the battery is going bad. Two years on a battery is about the lifetime for it.

disable all alarms in power management in windows and let the battery completely discharges. after this procedure - completely charge the battery. if it will show 18% again - return the battery to store.

Hey guys thanks in advance for the help. I want to be able to charge my laptop batteries just from a variable DC charger but I dont have any schematics. Is there a general pinout for these battery charging contacts or is it different for each. If so I am primarily interested in older Thinkpads (A31 ... etc) as I have come into a bunch with faulty charger or motherboard charging issues. Thanks again. steve

When I plug in for charging battery then screen goes black? when I set the  power plan at HP reccommended)But  I set the power plan at high performance then this one is OK.Please advise me to resolve

A:laptop screen goes black when plug in for charging battery

Did you mean to say that it goes black for a second and then returns to normal? Your notebook sounds like one with switchable graphics.  My HP product loan Envy17-3002ea does that because I have the graphics power options set to automatically switch to the energy saving GPU when on battery.  If you don't want that to happen, just take the tick mark out of the box that say automatically switch. Then it will stay in high powered GPU all of the time, but will always use more battery power when on battery. This is a decision that only you can make.    regards, erico

I saw a warning about trying to replace my Sony Laptop battery...that it wouldn't work with Windows 7, but the battery sales person convinced me it would. Now I've spent all day trying to figure out a solution, and have found none.

The battery came with a driver disk which won't load cause it was for a 32 bit, mine is 64 bit.

I tried uninstalling the "Batteries > Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and reinstalling, but it gave me an error message saying it couldn't install.

I went to Microsoft and downloaded all the updates.

I tried this...but could not find "ISBmgr.exe" under the start up tab.

From either the Start menu or command prompt run MSCONFIG.exe
On Vista machines, Windows will prompt you for permission to continue
In the System Configuration window, click the "Startup" tab and find the item containing "ISBMgr.exe"
Uncheck the box for the "ISBMgr.exe"
Click "Ok" to save and accept the changes and restart the laptop
You may be prompted on restart that Windows is running in selective mode. Just uncheck the notification option on bottom right.
I followed a few other iterations of those above steps with battery in, battery out, and other pokie turn yourself around things and am now stuck.
The new battery does not charge even when everything is shut down and plugged in. Yet, my old battery charges fine. It just won't hold a charge for longer than 20 minutes. T... Read more

If NOT, I would take it back to where you got it, get your money and get a REALLY Sony battery.

Long story short - I spilt water over my laptop keyboard and uplugged both AC cable and battery. 3 to 4 days later i plugged it in again, placed the battery and it was charging and running on it without any problem for 2 hours. Then i decided that it's just fine so I plugged the AC cable and I haven't used it on battery for 20-30 days. Well, today I unplugged the AC cable and my laptop turned off.
I downloaded a diagnostic tool called BatteryMon and it says:
(Since I'm unable to post images which is sad - please copy and paste it into your browser adress tab)
img714.imageshack.us/img714/8543/18495763.jpg
So, can anyone please tell me what does it really mean ? I can see that it says it's 120% charged which is overcharging, isn't it ? I'm not really into electrics, so please help me - how am I supposed to get my laptop battery working if it isn't dead ?

A:Lenovo G560 battery charges but laptop won't run on it

The battery contacts could be corroded by the spilled water. It takes time for this corrosion to develop so that's why the time that the laptop worked. The water could have affected other internal circuits too over time. The laptop needs to be opened up and inspected

I've had my HP Envy laptop for about 3 months, and yesterday I noticed that when it was plugged in it wasn't charging (the battery icon says "plugged in, not charging"). I turned it off overnight, plugged in, and this morning the battery was fully charged. It only seems to not charge when it is turned on. I have tried removing the battery, turning on, deleting the ACPI-compliant control method battery, turning off, and turning back on again (as advised in other forum responses), but with no joy. At first I thought it could either be a battery issue, but the fact it fully charged overnight whilst off would lead me to believe it's not, and is probably a software / settings issue. Any ideas please, I've run out of google search ideas!!

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

For some time have received the error message regarding under power smart adaptor with newer replacement HP adaptor matching original.  Battery icon lists % charge & "not charging".  Battery tests good in HP Support Assistant battery check.  Power adaptor will power my older Pavillion laptop but not  the Envy with or without battery installed.  Battery charging LED does not light.  Have tried re-calibration by deleting Microsoft devices in Device Manager.  Envy will operate with and without battery while using Dell power adaptor. Computer repair shop says Smart adaptor produces 0 voltage (even though it powers Pavillion) and I need a new battery (even though diagnostic test indicates good). Help!!!

Over the last few weeks, I seem to be getting the BSOD frequently. Probably averaging at least once per day. Almost always, this occurs within 15 minutes of taking my laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad E530) off AC power and using battery power. Note that I'm usually watching a video and maybe have a few tabs open when this happens, so I'm not doing memory-intensive things and I don't think the laptop is being overheated or something. After the BSOD, I can usually reboot quickly and then get back and running smoothly, even if I just remain on battery power. Though it has happened where I got the BSOD consecutively.

Here is the error report I receive from Windows when I reboot:

Can someone help me with this problem? So I just received my brand new Dell Inspiron 15 3000 and the battery is not charging. It says it's "Plugged In, Charging" but it never goes up and stays at 0%. At first I thought I just need to plug it in for several hours but it's been 5 hours now and still the battery stays at 0%. I tried running the BIOS Diagnostics just to see if there are problems and there's none. The battery status says everything is running normally and the Battery State says it's Idle. I tried draining the flea power several times, removing and reattaching the battery, but to no avail. I'm getting really frustrated and I'm really close to throwing this laptop back to Dell.
I read somewhere that I have to update the BIOS but it won't update unless the battery is charged at least 10%. Someone also suggested that Windows 8.1 is causing the problem. I haven't even started using this laptop and it's already giving me a *** ton of problems. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys! :)

Hey @EnigmaDimirti, Welcome to the forums. I'm here to help. I would strongly suggest Testing and Calibrating the Battery. Should that not solve the issue, I would suggest calling in for support to see about replacing the battery, as it should not be displaying "no battery is pluged in" when you run a battery check. Please use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp and create a case for your issue and contact HP. If you live outside the US/Canada, please click the link below to get the contact information for your region.http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html If this helps, please hit that Thumbs Up, and Accept as Solution. Cheers,TechSurge.

Over the last 2 days I have been having a problem as indicated in the title of this post. The fault has rectified itself 3 times, but again today, it is back to "battery plugged in, not charging." As I am running the laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium; 32 bit) on the adapter without problems, I assume that the adapter itself may not be faulty.
I also have a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop running Windows 7.  Can I safely use that adapter with the Vista laptop, without causing damage to the Vista ?  If it is safe to do so, and the battery on the Vista starts charging, then it would indicate that the Vista adapter/charger has some kind of fault.
Hoping someone can give me some guidance. Thanks.

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Battery plugged in not charging. Can I use adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop ?

If the adapter has the same plug and the same or higher power rating, you can swap them.
Check to see whether the 1545 recognizes the AC adapter or whether it shows unknown (F2 at powerup).  If it shows unknown with two different adapters, you have a bad power jack or a bad mainboard.

I have an older SL510 laptop, which has been working very well. But recently the battery power was continuing to diminish until recently, it stopped holding a charge altogether. At this stage, the orange battery indicator started to blink continuously at a rapid rate. I am still able to power up the laptop with my power cord connected. Purchased a new battery to replace the old and assumed light would go to green after charging. Unfortunately, after several hours connected to the charger, the battery light continues its constant orange blinking. Went through the process of uninstalling the ACPI file as noted in another post. Followed these steps:1. Disconnect AC2. Shut down3. Remove battery4. Connect AC5. Startup6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of Microsoft's ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, and select Uninstall (note that it is all right if you only have one).7. Shutdown8. Disconnect AC9. Insert battery10. Connect AC11. Restart your computerAfter completed this process, battery light continues to blink rapidly and battery doesn't seem to want to charge, or provide any indication that battery is inserted in computer. This happens whether I'm using either of the 2-power adapters I have for this laptop. What can I do to get this fixed??? Thank you in advance for any assistence provided!!!

I have just replaced my CMOS/BIOS battery today, as , I have faced some critical problem regarding regular BIOS date/time reset after system shutdown. But I want to know how do i recognize, that my new batter is totally ok or functional.

Battery Meter gadget shows that "battery Not charging"
Is it a gadget problem?

Is there any method available so that I can track that my new installed CMOS battery in PC is working fine?

Please help me.

A:Battery Meter shows CMOS battery not charging

The battery you have replaced is solely there to maintain the clock and other BIOS settings (if you have changed them from their defaults). It will not prevent you from booting your system if it is dead/missing; all it means is that you will have to enter the BIOS each time and make the correct settings and time. This battery is not rechargeable.

Do you still have to enter the correct time, or is the BIOS maintaining this now you've changed the battery?

Hi all,

Laptop is a 5 years old HP Pavilion DM4-2153ca.

Issue started a few months ago when laptop was shutting down at 63% battery, and when I plugged it it would charge until 9x% and then say "plugged in, not charging".
In the meantime I upgraded to Windows 10 and the issue wasn't solved.
I formatted and did a clean install of Windows 10 and still not solved.
HP advised I revert back to Windows 7 as this is the "original" OS for my somewhat old laptop.

So I just re-installed OEM Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 that came with the laptop, and the issue got worse, now it shuts down at 96%.

I also uninstalled and re-installed battery drivers, didn't work.
I tested the battery in the HP UEFI Support environment and it passed, so I can't calibrate it.

At this point I don't know what to do, and I don't think it's a battery related issue because it never fully discharges. The laptop just shuts down before! Help!!

A:Laptop shuts down at 96% battery and "Plugged in, not charging" issue

This is battery issue, nothing relates to windows &or battery drivers, if any.

If you leave the battery plugged in all the time, with the main power on.
Sooner or later, battery will not be able to charge properly, as you encountered now.

The percentage you see may not be real, hence it may force the laptop to shutdown without warning.
There is nothing you can do, unless either get a new battery, or use it as home with main power on.
