When the WiFi button (F12) is pressed the LED show red and a message on-screen briefly says "Flight Mode ON" and the network connection icon in the notification area shows a red X. - this is expected - however When I press F12 the on screen message does breifly display "Flight Mode OFF", but the LED stays orange and WiFi is disbaled. If I click the network icon in the notification area the panel that appears says Flight Mode OFF, WiFi (OFF). I simply cannot re-enable the WiFi with the F12 key. If I go to Computer->Properties->Device Manager, select the Wireless Adapter I can switch the WiFi back on by going to the Advanced tab and selecting Radio->Enable. If I do this the let then goes white and WiFi is OK. So what is going on - why can't I simply toggle the WiFi off and on with the F12 key. Why to I have to resort to the device manager to switch it back on again?
Solved my own problem - if it help others ....the WiFi Driver update dated 25/09/12 caused the problem in my case.Right click on 'Computer' select 'Advanced' and open Device manager. Locate the WiFi Adapter and choose the 'Roll back driver option' to restore the previous driver - worked for me. You think someone would test drivers better than this !!!9 more replies

Are you able to power up into safe mode? Keep tapping f8 key after post and select safemode and hit enter.
I'm posting the HJL of another PC of mine which seems pretty full of malicious things. I've done a couple of online virus scans and it took away most of bad things.
The only weird thing is that when I switch off the pc, it turns on again.... what could it be?

my pc switches off right after i switch it on. it only shows the first screen the screen that usually says press f1 for boot menu and such, and then it switches off. it hasn't reached the part where it shows microsoft xp and the loading thing while booting up. some times the shutdown time is shorter where it doesn't even show the first screen. it shuts off for about 1 or 2 seconds right after i switch it on.
i tried using a different power supply but problem is still the same.
hope to get some useful solutions from You.
and oh this is my first post. hello to all.
what are you running

I have a wireless router connected to my modem, and ALL PC's connect to that for internet.
I also have a gigabit switch I use to transfer data in between several of the machines. I do it quite often and I don't want it eating up the wifi bandwidth.
I have done it before, but it has been a long time and I cannot remember how I forced internet traffic over the wifi and local traffic through the switch
Is the only way to do it to specifically tell Windows to use the IP address of the LAN connection? I know it will work that way, forcing local traffic directly to that IP, but I seem to remember there being an easier way to do this.
I have a HP Pavilion dv7-3079wmI dissasembled it to clean the mother board fan and when I put it back togather again it would shut off every five minutes when logging in to windows 7. During memory tests such as memtest86 or Dos scan the laptop will switch off after scanning to 5% or even up to 15%. If I boot to safe mode it will be on for several hours. All research thus far indicates either bad memory or heat sink thermal paste. For the memory test i removed both memory cards and tried them individually in each slot. Doing this did not make any difference. Any help in diagnosing the problem will be much appreciated.More replies
I bought my hp Pavilion notebook in India. Now I live in the UK. For the last month or so, I've problems with my laptop. Whenever the laptop is on battery, it discharges very quickly. It randomly shuts off (not shut down, just shuts off with a gut wrenching clink of the hard disk) anytime below 50% charge. no notification of low battery or going into hibernation. It may happen in the middle of typing a sentence, or browsing. I ran diagnostics. HP battery check software first showed a "weak battery" result. I was about to order a new battery, when I ran the software again, which now says "primary battery OK". It is very confusing, as even if we agree that the battery has developed a problem, I can't understand why the system is not detecting low battery or putting the computer to hibernate, as per the settings. I've checked drivers - updated. The laptop is just one year and 3-4 months old. Should I replace the battery? Or is it a software error from the new windows 10 upgrade?Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!More replies
Hi, I have a Gateway NV52L15 notebook and I am having problems with my WiFi access. I have Windows 8. My wireless networks are not showing up. When I troubleshoot the network adapter, I get a messAge that reads that my wireless capability is turned off. When I go to the Gateway Device fast lane, my WiFi is on. But when I look in networks it as shows WiFi off and I am unable to turn it on that way. When I go to wireless devices in pc settings, the toggle button for the wire device is grey, therefore I am unable to switch it on- It used to work.
Also, while in the Gateway Device fast lane, when I press the F3 key the airplane mode goes on...the WiFi goes off...by comes right back on. Please help...
Dear Acer support,I have this problem already for a while. One minute the network adapter works perfectly (Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless Network Adapter). The other minute the laptop can get stuck because of network adapter issues. When the network adapter stops functioning I have no idea how to turn it back again. Sometimes restarting the computer works, sometimes a network reset works and sometimes nothing at all (which is my situation now). The error I get from the adapter is:"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12). If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on the system."I really want to fix this issue but don't know how to continue from here. Hope I can find a solution from this forumRafiMore replies

HI Michael, If you go to the Control Panel, and select the "Network and Sharing Center" item, in the bottom left of the screen there should be a "HP Wireless Assistant" link in the "See Also" section. Click that, and it will allow you to enable the wireless adaptor. That may achieve what you need to do. Regards,John9 more replies
My hp pavilion recently updated itself to Windows 10. Since the update i have been unable to switch it on whether plugged in to a power source or not. While plugged in to a power source it sometimes illuminates the orange charge light, sometimes it flashes when i press the power button and sometimes it does nothing at all. This pavilion is only 6 months old and used infrequently.
Ttaylor2711 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Since this is a relatively new machine, instead of struggling for hours to fix it yourself, why not just let HP fix it -- for free!! While this PC is still under warranty, you should contact HP Customer Support directly to have them put you in touch with HP Technical Support to see what they can do about diagnosing and repairing your machine remotely.I did this recently and the HP Tech was able to remotely access my PC from the Internet and do the needed repairs. If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================1 more replies

Hi, I wish to replace my internal 54 mb mini pci wireless card with a faster 108 mb one, however when I asked hp support what specs I need, they claimed I cannot, I can only use a faster external adapter type. Anyone one know if theres a way around this? Will my bios not support another card?
I bought my Pavilion dv6 laptop from HP in 2012 without the Blu-Ray option? Can I switch out the dvd for blu-ray now? If so, how do I go about it?
I will be needing the exact model number to find precisely the correct part but it is a piece of cake. Flip the laptop onto its back and there is a single screw either accessible directly on the bottom or inside the service bay. Remove the screw and the DVD drive slides out and you can purchase a Blu-Ray reader and DVD burner combo drive on eBay or amazon.com and slide that into its place, replace the screw and you are ready to go. You will need a Media Player which allows Blu-Ray playback if you want to watch movies. The price of all optical drives has come way down in the last couple years. 2 years ago a Blu-Ray drive would have cost over $100US but now it is likely to be $50 or under. You can also rebuild your drive module using a generic Blu-Ray drive and swap over the mounting hardware and faceplate but there is just not much to be saved that way any more as the price of the full drives with all hardware and plastics has come so far down. I will say that if you have a standard resolution laptop screen like 1366 x 768, the difference between a movie on a DVD and a Blu-Ray is hard to tell. Blu-Ray is noticeably superior at full HD 1920 x 1080. Tutorial on finding exact model number: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c000331081 more replies
Today when I switched on my computer it began to start up (barely staying on for five seconds) before switching off and repeating the whole process. It does stay on long enough for me to push either esc or f10 and go into computer set up. However i am not too sure what to configure and how and as soon as i exit out of it, my laptop starts the whole on/off process again.
I am not too sure about the specs of my laptop, only that it is an Hp and has windows xp.
Please, what can i do? I would be forever grateful if someone knows how I can fix this..
If you can post the model of the HP laptop, we can learn more for you.
You should find the model information on a sticker on the bottom of the machine.
It sounds like ESC or f10 will take you to the BIOS configuration utility.
Have you tried f8? You may need to press repeatedly, or press and hold.
This will take you to the option to boot to Safe Mode.
If this is successful, let us know. If not, let us know.
Next... you obviously have internet access from another computer.
There are two utilities you should download and run.
These utilities will check for errors in 1) your memory and 2) your drive.
Since they run outside of windows, trying to run them will give us a good idea if it is a hardware issue, or if it is a problem with your OS. (the f8 question may leave this an open question, but this will help get a definite answer, in addition to trying to isolate hardware faults)
To Test Memory... Using Memtest Please follow this guide...
Please note that (unless you start getting errors reported) you will need to let this run a long time.
A good way of doing this is to let it run over night. In each 'pass" there are a series of eight memory tests that are run, each more complicated than the previous. We used to advise letting it run a minimum of 7 passes, unless you start getting errors. We now advise at least 10 full passes. If you have errors reported, you may want to re-run the test with only one stick of ram installed, checked each stick unt... Read more

I just reinstalled my computer with windows 7 64bit and I have HP pavilion dv7 6050ec with two graphic cards : mobility radeon HD 6770M and a generic Intel HD Graphics Family. Since I reinstalled the computer, I no longer have to option to chose what graphic card I want to use. Before this reinstallation I could just right click on the desktop and there was a option that said Switch Graphical units, but now there is nothing like that. And I have the latest drivers for both graphic cards and latest Catalyst Control Center and Direct X installed. And in device manager all drivers are installed correctly. So I have no idea what to do.
Have you looked in BIOS to disable the onboard video? I don't know where that option came from, I confess that I've never seen it. Otherwise, you could try and disable the onboard video in the device manager.3 more replies

I have 11 computers connected by cables to two 8 port Linksys switches then to the router. Some time ago I lost connection to six of the computers. Today a staff member purchased a Netgear 16 port switch thinking one of the switches was bad. The two switches were connected to one another with a crossover cable. We connected the computers to the Netgear switch using the cables from the Linksys switches (eliminating the two switches) and now none of the computers have internet. The ports are numbered 1-16. The instructions say nothing other than turn the switch on and plug in the cables. We use a local DSL provider. Most machines use XP, a few 2000.

Could anyone explain the difference between domain (controller)switches and full fabric switches? (or direct me to a page/site which would do the job)
Depends on what context you're talking about. Your statement is a bit "Apples and Gorillas" The two really aren't related to each other.
I have a laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad) that is mounted in a docking station. In my house I have wifi, the docking station is connected to the router via hard LAN.
I have prioritized my connections to give preference to LAN over wifi (as I obviously prefer the fastest connection).
The Network sharing center now tells me I am connected to both LAN and Wifi, but the system tray tells me Wifi. How do I know through which I am now connected and how to I prioritize LAN? Please don't tell me to manually enable / disable ;-)
Thanks a lot!
Try ipconfig and see what your lan ip is
and then try
and if it goes threw you lan card ip first you will know it's working the way you want
I was playing a game on my laptop and decided to switch from wifi to ethernet. I plugged in the ethernet and turned off the wifi switch to ensure it switched over, but later when I tried to turn wifi back on, I see the wifi on/off switch is grayed out.
I went to my device manager to check for wifi network adapter driver updates, but everything seemed pretty up to date.
Any recommendations on how to fix this? Or at the least another method of turning the wifi on, like through command prompt or something?
So to fix this what I did was hit the airplane mode key on my keyboard. The wifi switch in the pic I posted would stop being grayed out for about 5 seconds, and I had to switch it on in that time.
I'll note that flipping the airplane mode switch right above the wifi switch didn't do this, so I don't have a clue how it worked out.
how do you tell xp which program you want it to manage your wireless network? a friend has installed d-links software and it has taken over managing the wireless connection. I would like to undo it and make it use windows built in wireless managment software
If you goto Add/Remove programs and remove the DLink program it will probably revert to the original windows xp wifi manager.2 more replies

Did it work as expected with Vista? Maybe there is a Packard Bell WLAN utility you need to download from their web site? If no Windows 7 one maybe a Vista one that will still work.
Is the switch a toggle or slide switch?
So the wifi switch on my computer is broken off, although i am unsure how it happened. The places I have taken it to with questions have only told me expensive solutions for it such as having to replace the entire motherboard (which seems strange to me just because of one switch) anyways, I have wireless internet in my house, but cannot use it on my laptop so for anything that involves internet connection the laptop is useless. I also bought one of those netgear wireless usb adaptors and am still not able to get internet.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
I may be wrong but the wifi switch should not affect an external USB adapter. What were the issues you were having when you installed the Netgear Wireless USB? Did you disable the internal wifi adapter (either in Windows or BIOS) prior to installing?
My pavilion dv2418nr wireless switch light stays orange, will not go to blue, will not recognize any surrounding neighborhood connections. What make/model is the computer?
If it is a slide switch and you broke off the part that sticks outside the case, you might be able to use a toothpick or other small stiff object to reach through the slot and slide it to the ON position.

Hello I just bought a brand new computer 3 days ago. Haven't been using it that long. It's an HP Envy 810qe or something like that. The first day I played on it 77 windows updates were downloaded.
The computer has built in Bluetooth which I love but I noticed it was always-on and was wondering if there was an on/off switch. I searched Google and seen there is an on/off switch in PC Settings, PC Devices, Bluetooth. Unfortunately I do not have this. Also under PC Settings and Network I do not have an on/off switch for the wifi. I also don't have anything in PC Settings called Wireless. I talked with HP support (since I just bought this computer) their only option was to do a System Restore or Recovery. I talked to Microsoft support and their only option was to pay for a premium membership so they could use their 'advanced tools' to scan my system and find out the problem. (which is my long history of dealing with computers and support their answer would have probably been the same which was System Restore or Recovery, at which who even knows if this is going to fix the problem)
So now I come to this community my first time here (wave) asking for assistance. I temporarily disabled my Bluetooth in Device Manager because I don't know if it's safe to have it constantly on if I'm not using it. I've seen on here there are other people who have had the same problem but I didn't see a definite solution on the couple threads I read. Also just before disabling my Bluetooth I ran HP s... Hi summerbear. I can try something that works on my MSI laptop (a great brand BTW), and I think most of todays' laptops.
Usualy there's an allin1 manager to all of the options you mentioned, and it is accessible through the start line in windows (at the bottom). Most of the time you don't see all the icons of programs running, and there's a little upward arrow in far right side of the start line, that if clicked reveals sound, storage, and allin1 managers installed in your system. In my laptop this manager program that includes control over volume, wi-fi, and bluetooth, is called SCM. I'm not sure that HP's has the exact same program but there's supposed to be some type of allin1. If you don't find any try typing "Bluetooth" in windows search (through the start button), and shutting down wi-fi is also possible by clicking the network bars in the far right, thus accessing the list of nearby wi-fi networks, choosing the one you're connected to, and clicking "disconnect".
Hope I helped, goodluck.
I was using Windows 7 Home Basic preinstalled with the laptop since 2011. The laptop was working fine. After upgrading to Windows 10 the WiFi and Bluetooth is not working. Tried help from Microsoft remotely. According to them the drivers are not working and there is no updated drivers available for Windows 10 on HP website. The driver installed presently is "Broadcom 4313GN 802.11b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter".Please help and advise whether to stick with Windows 10 or to roll back to Windows 7 as I have an option to purchase a removable device to use WiFi and Bluetooth.I love the lightness of the new operating system. Hello @Banti2?, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I read your post about the Windows 10 upgrade, and wanted to assist you!You can use the Go back to an earlier build option, in your System Settings: HP Notebook PCs - Upgrading to Windows 10Once you are back to your original Operating System, check to see if you are experiencing the same issue. If not, then you may consider holding off on the Windows 10 upgrade for a few weeks, until drivers can be updated. However, if you are able to get the WiFi and Bluetooth to work, using an external device, then you can continue to use Windows 10. Keep in mind, that the rollback option is only good for the first 28 days, after installing Windows 10. Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.Regards!2 more replies

I run an Ethernet cable to my modem for my Windows 10 PC. But unfortunately I have a lot of drop outs where the internet just stops (something I am taking up with my provider) and I have a pocket wifi to use as a back up.
My PC can find the wifi and connect but the only way I can get it to connect is by pulling out the blue Ethernet cable from the actual pc. (When I say connect, I mean it is "connected" already but not in use, the small box appears for the ethernet cable rather than the wifi icon)
I would like to know if there is a way to either run the wifi simultaneously with the Ethernet cable plugged in or if there is a way to "turn off" the Ethernet connection from my pc when it goes down, so that I dont have to keep unplugging it.
I am not very technically minded and am worried if I go into advanced network settings etc that I might not be able to get the Ethernet working again once it is plugged in and back up and running.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
You can have both plugged in and still work. Each NIC is assigned a metric and the NIC with the lowest metric will be used. If in your are the wired NIC is still seen as available but in fact it's having problems the computer will still try and use it unless you unplug the cable. If your computer supports a feature called LAN/WLAN switching that may work in your case that may work or may suffer from the same problem in which the wired NIC is still detected as connected and it won't switch. If you are only having an issue with the wired connection why not just stay on wireless?8 more replies
The title basically spells it out. I would like to know if leaving my WiFi switch on my laptop on all the time is a bad idea? Would I see any performance hit because my system is constantly looking for a WiFi signal?
I leave my switch on all the time and have never seen any performance hit. It would be mighty inconvenient to keep it switched off, then switch it on everytime I need to use the internet.
And your system is not constantly looking for a wifi signal. Once you've connected to your home network, it would stay connected to that.
I have a Toshiba satellite L350D 01M laptop. My warranty period is over and I wanted to clean out the fans etc... and I have taken apart many laptops in the past but man it was hard to get all the connectors from the keyboard etc hooked up without unplugging another one because of the lack of wiggle room, how the guys at Toshiba put them together i will never know anyway i finally managed to get them all hooked up and the case back together but the wifi radio switch next to the SD slot was not aligned properly and rather than go through the nightmare of hooking it all back up again i forced the switch a little too much well actually a lot too much as i busted the dang thing right off.
so now i can't switch on the wifi which ain't that bad for home 'cause i have a wired modem but when i am out and about i need the wifi capability. someone suggested bridging the two connections i can see inside (a guy at staples) but that if it did work each time i shut it down i would have to bridge it again, well I tried that and I did something wrong as the whole system shut off like a lightening bolt and i thought i fried the motherboard as i couldn't get it to turn on, but i unhooked the battery unplugged and held down the power button for ten seconds then i plugged it back in minus the battery and luckily it worked, there is no way i am going to try that again and if i don't have to (i can't afford it anyway) is there anyway i can bypass the hardwire switch... I have a Humax Freesat recorder and a Panasonic Blu-Ray player. Both of which have services that need internet access, but neither are WIFI enabled & are the wrong side of the room to be connected via cabled ethernet.
I believe that what I need is to wireless access point? I'd like one with a built in switch as well, as most seem to only come with only one port. The one I found has four, which would be useful as I could replace the poor wireless Xbox 360 dongle.
The one I was looking at was http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004JV42A0/sr=1-1/qid=1325091993/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1325091993&sr=1-1&seller=. This seems very cheap.
Can anyone tell me if this will do what I want & whether there is anything better without spending a fortune?
Many thanks in advance

Hi, I'm Antonio. About a month ago, while I was doing work, I tried to access Ubuntu from my jump drive to look at a certain application (don't remember what). Couldn't get the wifi working in Ubuntu (as had happened in the past), so I gave up. When I got back to Windows 8, the wi-fi was not working in Windows, either! It's still not working. Despite the wifi switch being clearly in the "on" position, it doesn't think the wifi is on. Toggling the switch with the Device manager open shows the Bluetooth drivers popping in and out, so the switch is physically working, at any rate. The wifi drivers stay put, and Device Manager thinks they're working fine.
Sony Vaio S series laptop (VPCSB11FX). Windows 8, 64-bit. I've tried:
-Deleting and re-installing drivers.
-Deleting and re-enabling.
-Doing a system refresh.
If I go back into Ubuntu (as I'm doing now), I can fire off an "rfkill unblock all" command, and the wifi works. Hardware swtich and all. How do I get Windows to think my switch is on, and that my hardware is working?
I have experienced several sudden blue screen crashes, with apparently no advice. After several different conditions trials I reckoned it occures when the WiFi switch is on. So, it should be associated either to Bluetooth or Wlan.
Any suggestion how to go deeper? apparently I have last drivers (Windows 7 64)
Have you already checked the BIOS if you have installed the newest version? If not check this on Toshiba website and make a BIOS update. Maybe it helps?
But I had a similar problem last year and the solution was exchanging the WLAN card.
I think your Tecra S11 should be still under warranty and in such cases the repair would be for free. :)
I have a pesky little brother who keeps switching off the WiFi switch on my laptop when I leave home without some downloads on. He does so that he can hog up all the bandwidth for himself.
Is there any way I could disable the WiFi switch so that my WiFi stays on at all times? I have a Lenovo Y560.
If he can't turn off the WiFi what will stop him from just powering the system down?
There may be a way to catch the key using AutoHotkey. You would have to have a script running that echos the vk key codes as each key is pressed. Once you know the code for the WiFi key you can just intercept it with a one line script.
But he could still just close the program running the script or hold down the power button.
whenever i switch users, the internet connection gets disconnected on the previous users. Is there anyway i could set it so when i switch users, the previous user is still connected. like connected on aim. and switch users and ill still be on aim.

Hi guys, I have a strange problem with one Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E145 notebooks. At first I was not able to start in windows the wireless but after multiple uninstall/install/update of the drivers I managed to do it. Still Windows shows WiFi on but in the same time off and I can't see any WLAN networks. I am working in an organization and i am IT support engineer. comimg to issue...we do have multiple SSIDs in our organization and this is happening to some of the users who are using HR(for example) SSID. wifi profile is missing everytime, when user switch from home wifi or another network. this is happening only for one SSID(HR) among 6 SSIDs. where, it(HR) uses the EAP-FAST module. And user can access internet only through this particular SSID(HR) and remaing SSIDs are used by other important users. when user comes to us with this issue, we are adding it manually in Network sharing and Center>Manage wireless>Add . when user connects this SSID(HR), it takes windows login ID and password as credentials. there is no issue with other SSIDs.
i Bought a dell precision m4800 it came it windows 8 i updated it and now my wifi switch is not working it does'nt turmn off and now i can't turn the bluetooth on as well, it says that you need to turn on the wireless hardware but it is already on
Have you checked first of all that the wireless switch is enabled on the right hand side? Also go in to the BIOS (F2 on startup) and check that the Wireless Switch is set to "ALL" and the Wireless Device Enable is set to "ALL"
If it is still not turning on, I'd suggest updating the Wireless Driver. Follow this link [View:]
and choose Network and download the latest driver for your WLAN card. If you know the Service Tag enter that and it will list the drivers for your particular configuration. Let me know if the issue is resolved or if you are still having issues.
How can I fix this? When the side switch is in the "Off" position, my laptop is in Airplane mode and refuses to leave. When the switch is in the "On" position, I am told that the internet access is disabled due to the switch being turned off. I have tried disabling the switch in bios and this did not work. I do not know any potential solutions.More replies

Hey - my hardware wifi switch keeps breaking, thinking it's in the off position. I can temporarily fix it by opening up the laptop and jigger the connections, but this takes a full hour every time i do it, and it only seems to last a month or so, then it breaks again and i have to open up the computer again. Is it possible to simply disable the hardware switch?
Welcome to the forum.

Have you considered soldering a jumper across the switch?
I was using wifi on my laptop on day, and the next, my laptop said it wasn't connected to wifi. I tried to reconnect but it said "cannot connect to this network". My wifi still works on my roomate's laptop and on my phone. I have tried updating my computer, restarting it, performing a hard restart, using automatic troubleshooting, and updating/reinstalling the driver software. I hadn't installed any new programs onto my laptop before the problems started. I don't know what is causing this.
I have also disabled the Power Off option for the adapter and reset the TCP/IP settings.2 more replies

My HP pavilion won't stay connected to the wifi at my bosses house. It worked initially (for about a month) but now it doesn't even find the connection half the time let alone connect to it. If it does manage to connect it drops the signal after a couple of minutes iPads, Macs and iPhones all connect fine, there has never been an issue. It's just the HP. I had a Mac for three years and never had a problem - in fact I've resurrected it to post on here as I can't get on the internet on my HP! I have succesfully used a Hyper-V virtual switch connected to the wireless adapter in my laptop. All my VM's could access my LAN independently, and could get an ip address from the DHCP server. This means, AFAIK, that my wireless adapter can and does opererate in promiscuous mode.
This worked up to build 10586. Today, I upgraded to build 11102, and this setup no longer works. It appears that wifi adapters are simply not supported with Hyper-V virtual switches. Bummer.
When you try to configure a wifi adapter in a virtual switch, it is not simply grayed out, or otherwise made impossible, but it tries to go ahead and then gives an error message (see attachment)
This does not make sense. There is no other bridge or switch configured.
I found two work-arounds:
- configure the wired ethernet adapter to the virtual switch, and create a bridge connection between the wired and the wifi adapters. For me this does not work, because I get an other error trying to create the bridge connection, which I will report in an other thread.
- use ICS. This works, but has the huge disadvantage of having a NAT layer between the VM's and the rest of my network.
Has anyone experimented with this, too?
I am now at build 14257. I am still not able to create a virtual switch which connects to my wireless adapter.
I have an HP Zbook 14. I have had this laptop for almost a year and never had a problem connecting wireless.
The other day, my laptop froze up and was unresponsive. I rebooted it and noticed immediately a message about a hash mismatch, but the laptop continued to reboot. After coming up, I could no longer connect wireless, even though the light is on. Troubleshooting
efforts keeps saying to enable the wireless switch, which it is on.
I have done numerous tasks, disable then enable, press the wireless button on and off. Currently I am hardwired in and thought if I unplugged the Ethernet cable, it would pick up the wireless but it did not.
Any suggestions or advice?
I have a HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC (Model: G6U21UA#ABA )I spent already 10+ hours trying to fix this. After an automatic update the WIFI is off. Everything point to the hardware switch that is off but ... surprise surprise... this computer does not have either a hardware switch or F8/F10 key to turn it on. It has a button for the airplane mode (F12) but even when it is on the WI-FI option is still gray out and I cannot change it to on.I tried the HP Assistent, to manually download and install the drivers and BIOS from Intel and from HP : http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-15-p100-Notebook-PC-series/7234915/model...But so far nothing worked.

Hello guys, I want to update my computer to have a Bluetooth 4.0 connection, i've tryed some PCI-e boards but It was not compatible...Do you know any PCI-e board wifi and Bluetooth 4.0 that is compatible with Pavilion G6? Thank you
Need exact model and the big question is whether it is in the "whitelist" era. Generally anything with a 4th gen Intel Core or newer is past the whitelist and you can install any wireless or wifi-bluetooth card of the same form factor as long as you have at least 2 antennae which I believe the G6 models do.1 more replies
I have never connected to the Internet on this computer. I had downloaded a 2 second animation video from Tumblr on another computer, put it on a flashdrive, and put it on the laptop. Hi, for the past month or so I have been having trouble using wifi to browse the Internet on my HP Pavilion dv6 notebook PC. I can see all the available connections and even connect to them but once I am connected and try to use the Internet in any form it just doesn't load any web pages and comes up with the same error when I am not connected to any Internet at all. While I am connected to the wifi it fluctuates from saying I have Internet access to no Internet access but no matter what it says connection to the Internet is impossible. Up till now this hasn't really been a problem as I have been mainly using Ethernet cables which seems to work fine on my laptop. I know that for a fact it's not any of he wifi's that aren't working as other laptops around the house are working on it fine. I have had this laptop for about a year but about a month or so ago this problem came about and I haven't been able to solve it myself since.Any help on this problem would be much appreciated as I am changing all the Internet in my house to wifi so need to sort this out soon. I am trying to fix my brother-in-law's laptop hp pavilion dv6, windows 7 (64-bit). He is having problems connecting to the internet through the laptop wifi. It shows all the surrounding routers including his, but won't connect either way. He has a sprint wifi card that he uses to connect with no problems. Now, if that is working, than what is causing the laptop wifi not to work? I even looked on the hp website for any answers, and this is what I have read from other people using the same model:
1) Having the laptop plugged in the ac for most of the time might cause the motherboard to overheat and cause the wifi to not function. (My brother-in-laws does kinda have it plugged in most of the time, that I have seen.)
2) Might have to download the new version of the Bios, wireless assistant, and the wireless drivers off the hp website. Install software, reboot and just incase re-install the bios and that should fix the problem.
3) The motherboard might be the problem, might have to fix or buy a new motherboard. (Heh! Ahhhhh, I hope not, it's not even 6 months old.)
Well if anybody out there have any suggestions as to how this problem can be fixed, please feel free to throw them my way.

The laptop is only 2 weeks old, purchased with Windows 8.1 and upgraded to Windows 10. Wifi was working perfectly until 24 hours ago when it kept losing connection and went from 0 to 1 bar. Other wifi devices had normal signal strength. I tried again today, even comparing with a near identical laptop which is on a fresh install of Windows 10 and could show more wifi services than my own one with both placed side by side within a few metres of the router. I googled around and tried setting the power plan setting to max performance on battery. It made no difference. There was no difference on battery power or plugged in. I tried HP Support Assistance to restore the driver which was V17 before and still V17 after. I then tried HP Support Assistant and Windows Update to find any updates. There were none. I then came to the support pages for the device and saw updates dated 4th October 2015. Puzzled why HP Support Assistant hadn't found them, I used the hp support pages to check for updates. This downloaded a new version of HP Support Assistant and this successfully downloaded a number of updates, include Wireless driver updates (v18). I still only have 1 bar most of the time though it goes up and down a lot, peaking at 3 on battery power. I have reset the power plan settings to default and there is no difference. Still other devices around me have more signal strength than this.&n... Read more

I have to restart it and normally that works, although a lot of times I have to goto device manager and disbale.enable or uninstll the driver, and then scan hardware chnages to find the netwrk card again. I was really hoping this issue would go away with Win 10 upgrade, but it hasnt, its the same. I've checked on Windows update and I'm all upto date. Please someone help here, its so annoying, and making it unusable for my son, who doesnt know how to do the device manager bitthanks
Try going to the Power Management tab for you WiFi card in Device Manager and unchecking the box which says " Allow computer to turn off this device to save power". Reboot.
