Multiple audio devices 1 jack

Q: Multiple audio devices 1 jack

I've googled this endlessly with no result and I'm guessing it isn't possible but I may as well ask.

My laptop has one audio/mic port. I'm cheap and had a splitter laying around, my headphones, and a set of ear buds with a mic on it I combined to use as a headset.

This works fine, however, since the sound output is being split to both my ear buds and headphones, it doesn't sound as good and some things are faint, which isn't good for gaming.

Is there a way to manage my audio devices so that my ear buds is mic only and no sound, and my headphones get all the sound? I've found no options in Windows, just playback (speakers) and recording (mic). I assume because it's only one jack it isn't, but it can't hurt to ask.

I have three audio devices on my pc (ATI HDMI, Via HD onboard and steelseries usb soundcard) and through all devices I only get audio out of the left channel. I have tried two pairs on headphones and my tv speakers all with the same results. I have looked at all the balancing end everything is set to even on both channels.

Windows 7 X64 ultimate
M4A78 PRO Mobo Via HD audio
Steel Series Usb SoundCard

A:Audio Only out of one channel (multiple headsets and audio devices)

As you have three devices, each one separately generates the sound. The only thing common would be the sound itself, such as a wav or mp3 file.

When you use the PC's sound chip (VIA HD) that is one hardware device and the wired on the motherboard output jacks. If you use a USB connected sound device then you are using that device to generate the sound and that device's physical jacks. If you use the ATI HDMI, most video cards have their own built in audio chip (unless this is an old video card that uses S/PDIF connection to the motherboard) and thus again everything separate for audio generation and connection.

One comment, if you have both the Via on board audio and the usb connected sound card enabled at the same time there can be conflicts and sound problems. Not the balance problem you have but there can be problems. If you want to use the VIA then physically disconnect the USB. If you want to use the USB, disable the on-board audio in the BIOS.

My system has a sound card and two USB audio devices. I can click the speaker -> options -> propertied -> mixer device and select 1 device and reboot and play via that device. However I would like to have all audio devices work at the same time. Is there a way to do this? If not, is there a way to switch without rebooting? (Windows 2000).

hi, i'm relatively new here, so i'm not really sure how to do this but alot of my games are having problems i.e. ? has cause in invalid page fault in unknown. I am led to believe it is a soundcard problem, i use an onboard sound card with the VIA VT1612A 2-channel audio Codec and i look in multimedia properties under audio devices, i had two different ones, Audio for via Ac'97 Enhanced Audio Controller(WDM), and Audio for Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM), i was told by a friend to uninstall the drivers and then reinstall to fix this, i did, now on top of those two devices i have a second Audio for Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM). I also have three MIDI for WDM-based Device. ANd Mixer for VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller (WDM), along with two Mixer for Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM),this may be normal, but like i said i'm relatively new at this and it doesn't really look normal, so can someone please help me? Thank You

A:need help, multiple audio devices

Look at the back of your computer. Do you have onboard sound AND a seperate PCI sound card? If so then you need to disable the onboard sound in the BIOS setup and use only the PCI sound card.

Now go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall ALL VIA AC97, AC97, Vinyl audio drivers and anything else that looks like it goes to sound drivers.

Then go to Device Manager and uninstall/remove all remaining VIA/Vinyl/AC97 devices listed under the Multimedia heading. Reboot only after all are removed.

Then download the latest VIA Vinyl drivers. When you first run the new driver setup program it will look to see if there are still drivers installed, if it finds any then it give you the option to uninstall them. Do that and reboot.

Then run the VIA installation again and install the drivers, and reboot.

At any point Windows may redetect the sound card and want to reinstall the drivers - let it. Do NOT click Cancel on the Found New Hardware Wizard. If all goes well prior to install the latest driver the sound card should be detected as a PCI Multimedia Device and that means all the drivers will have been removed.

Here's the latest drivers: http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/Vinyl_AudioCode_v600a_M.zip
They are in a ZIP file, once extracted you need to run the SETUP.EXE file to install the drivers.

Hi, I recently purchased a HP Pavilion dv6974 Laptop, it came installed with Vista 64-bit. It works fine and all, just one thing I want to figure out.

The laptop has built-in speakers, a built-in mic, 2 headphone jacks and 1 microphone jack. I plugged my headset into one of the headphone jacks, my headset microphone into the microphone jack, and my external speakers into the second headphone jack.

What I wish to do is to set it up in a way that I can play music through my speakers, and Ventrilo through my headset.

The way I did this before on my desktop was that there was this option in the Realtek Audio Manager called "enable playback multi-stream" that separated the two audio jacks on the computer (one in the back, and one in the front). Then I was able to choose a different audio driver for Ventrilo, and use the default one for music. This was on XP, and I only had one sound card btw.

And now for Vista, I've tried looking through the Audio Device Manager and the Realtek Audio Manager but couldn't find anything that would help much, except in the Realtek Audio Manager there's this "tie up all input jacks something something, etc" that sounded like it was what I was looking for, but all it did was mess up my microphone.

To add more to this confusion, there is actually another audio device in the Audio Device Manager, but it's the Digital Audio Receiver, and I don't really know what that does.

I've asked about this problem elsewhere, and some peopl... Read more

I'm not entirely sure if this is a Windows Sound issue or a hardware issue, so I'm asking this question both here and in a Windows Community Forum. Is it possible to output audio to multiple devices (i. e., can one assign more than one "Default Device")?  For example, can I output to the USB-S/P-Dif device connected to my stereo and the bluetooth device driving my outdoor speakers simultaneously? I have an Envy dv7-7255dx, with the IDT Hi-Def audio codec, running 64-bit Windows 10 Home. Thanks!

Hi guys. I have my TV connected via HDMI through my video card to my computer and also run sound through my computers speakers with the onboard sound. Normally I just change the audio device before opening a program depending on whether I want it on the TV speakers or computer speakers. The problem is that sporadically when I select the device for the TV speakers it doesn't provide any sound and no combination of turning the TV on and off, changing the audio device back and forth etc will let give sound on the TV speakers (but when i change to the computer speakers it works fine). I can't seem to reproduce the problem either, it just happens sporadically and the only solution is to restart the computer.

I have vista 32 bit ultimate. Any suggestions?

Hello,

I'll try to explain this as simply as possible... Currently, I have speakers, headphones and the headphone microphone plugged in. I'd like to record my Skype conversations using stereo mix, but stereo mix only picks up what goes through my speakers and not what goes through my headset. I've tried tinkering with the settings and haven't been able to get stereo mix to record what goes through my headset instead of my speakers.
How do I get stereo mix to record headphone audio instead of speaker audio?

For the past few hours, I've also been trying to get Audacity to record both stereo mix and my microphone. From what I've read, Audacity can't record two inputs at the same time, so is there a way to combine stereo mix and my microphone?

I'm using the latest Realtek HD drivers, if that helps any.

Thanks for your time.

You might want to check out VAC(Virtual Audio Cable). It is not a "free" program, so depending on you needs, it might help. here is a link to info about it:Virtual Audio Cable - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
and here is a link to download VAC:
Virtual Audio Cable - CNET Download.com

I used it myself to share music I was listening to over video chats. The program can be used in a number of ways. I no longer use, since I currently have a laptop with Stereo Mix, and that meets my needs just fine. Hope this helps.

Hi, I very much want to know the answer to this problem. My setup is simple. I am working with my Mobo's onboard sound card (Mobo is Asus M3A32-MVP Wi-Fi) and here's the thing. I see multiple devices in both Vista and Seven (have a dual boot) - I see the front headphone jack, the SPDIF, the rear audio port (it's 5.1 surround) and also an HDMI. I've just recently bought two bluetooth headphones and I have paired them and see them in the audio devices panel too.

Now this is what I want to do. I want to hear the audio on all the devices simultaneously. If I turn on the audio system (connected to the SPDIF) then I should hear the audio there. If I connect multiple Bluetooth headphones, I should hear the audio from my comp on any and all of them.

So, why can't I do this? Apparently this was the default behaviour for Windows in XP. That is, any audio played was available on all connected devices. Now, here in Vista and Seven we have a major downgrade in that we have to select a SINGLE audio output device as the "default" device and when a device is selected as such, the audio stream is SOLELY passed into it. THIS IS SO VERY WRONG! It is so illogical to do something like this in today's world of changing and evolving multi-media environments. I mean, what if my Mom wants to hear my music from the kitchen at the same time that I'm listening to it as I work on my desktop. She should be able to simply plugin and start listening to what I'm hearing! This is RIDICULOUS!

Mine looks like this

Can any l502x owners confirm (re driver install) if they did follow these instructions

Well my jack is broken since a few months so no joy for me... I hate it now when I can't listen to my music on my 14 speakers in my room. (NO KIDDING LOL) And today I was thinking about... HDMI... Audio?! Yes, but - I don't want to cut my only one hdmi cable which my parents use. So, I thought maybe my USB 2.0 port can emit audio, I have some spare USB cables lying to throw out, could I make it possible to connect a 3.5mm jack with the USB to the white and green cables? (USB pinout and wiring @ pinouts.ru) I don't care if it will be mono sound or stereo, I just want sound in my speakers again
Also I don't know If I had to post this in the Hardware & Devices section but I personally think this question fits better here.

P.S.: I think I'll need some software.. if yes: I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits SP1 on a Acer Aspire 5742G Intel i3 370m 2.4ghz , 4 gb ddr3 ram, ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5470 512 M GDDR3, 2 free usb ports on the right side, 1 for the mouse on the left, HDMI Ethernet and VGA on the left side (+ power source adapter which also was broken but I've fixed it).

Edit2:
Btw, I don't want to(Well.... Can't) spent any $$$ on any adaptors now...

Edit3:
Well else I will have to get the screwdriver, openup the laptop and connect some wires to the laptop speaker... But that's the last thing I want to do. If nothing else will help.

Hi

I've been stuggling with this for a few hours now and am at the end of my wits..

I've got two audio devices that I would like to link to my PC at once.
I've got one plug connected to the back panel, and one to the front. But one always cuts off the other. In my sound devices, the system registers them both as: "speakers, VIA High Definition Audio, Standard device"

Is there any way that I can connect them both at once, and still have both of them outputting audio?

I hope the internet will save the day!

Many thanks in advance!

If you use realtek,

Otherwise You're pretty much screwed, only other way is to use Virtual audio cable, but you'd have to set it up every time you booted (and it costs 20$)

A:how do I switch micro jack to a audio jack

Some, but not all, have the capability to reallocate jacks. If you have RealTek, the RealTek HD Audio Manager that is located in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound Panel is where its located (but not on all RealTek's). If you have some other on-board audio check to see if there is a simi;ar Audio Manager and the options.

If there is no jack reassignment available for your PC/motherboard you can use the rear Speaker jack for headphones. Some also have a "Line Out" and you can also use that for the headphones.

Hello my dear fellow windows 7 users!

A few days ago, one half of the jack of my external speakers got stuck in the female jack of my PC laptop.
I am using Realtek HD audio, and I wanted to ask whether it is possible for me to somehow disable the jack and have my audio played through my normal inbuilt laptop speakers, seeing as I will be needing audio from my computer as soon as possible.

Here is a snapshot of my audio devices - and as you can see the speakers and headphones are under one device so I can't switch between the two..

A:Audio jack stuck in PC input jack...?

There is a contact switch inside that audio port that switches the built in speakers off when a jack is inserted.
This is a physical switch so the issue is hardware. I doubt there will be any software solution for it.

So your mission is to remove that broken jack. If you are uncomfortable taking a laptop apart you might consider taking it to a repair shop.

A:Audio jack stuck in PC input jack...?

You will need to get the broken piece out. Sometimes a strong magnet will dislodge it. Some RealTek's have a control panel that will allow you to reassign jacks, but I don't know if that will even do you any good.

If you have one it will be located in Start/Control Panel/Hardware and Sound.

Hi!

I have two USB audio devices that I cannot seem to properly install drivers for.
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 & KORG MicroKONTROL

I am in communication with both product tech support teams but so far they have not offered a successful solution. As the same issue is occurring with multiple devices I thought it might be an OS issue.
I run Win 7 Home Premium x64

The problem is as follows:

The product drivers install correctly without error. However, instead of showing up in the Device Manager in either USB Controllers or Sound Controllers they both show in Other Devices with a yellow exclamation mark.
I have tried the following fix from this site (USB Driver - General Fix for Problems) and this actually enabled me to access a portable HDD that wasn't working, but it didn't fix the issue for my 2 audio devices.
I have also tried right clicking on the devices in Other Devices, selecting Driver Update. I then find the correct drivers listed but when I hit install I get the following error message on both:
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. One of the installers for this device cannot perform the installation at this time."

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Could it be the two devices are competing with each other and the driver installer gets confused? Details on the devices and the needs to use two of the same type probably would be helpful.

A:audio problem when earphone/head phone is connected to 3.5mm audio jack

Test by switching between the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If it still does not work correctly when the native driver is installed, then the hardware in the headphone jack has failed.
But if the same problem is there with the native driver then you should install a different version of the Realtek driver. I might be able to direct you to one but would need to know which operating system you are using.

Hello BleepingComputer

I just upgraded my computer a few days ago, and I am having problems with the Front Jack Audio/Headphone.

Normally, I set my Headphone to run simultaneous with my Speaker with Realtek HD audi/Stereo Nix (Disable Front Jack Detection and vice versa), and I could change the volume on both devices separately.
But since I changed the motherboard, when I have realtek installed, it doesn't have the Headphone setting in Sound/Playback.
The headphone work perfectly, but its linked to the Speaker's volume, which is really annoying.
Also, the Realtek layout changed from the last one I got, and doesn't have the "Disable Front Jack Detection" option.
(Picture: http://i903.photobucket.com/albums/ac232/notyellowasian11/Untitled-1_zps2242cdba.jpg)

So far, I have tired..
Installing an older version of Realtek driver;
Changing the audio setting in the BIOs (HD or AC97)
Changing the audio connector on the MOBO (Hd or AC97)
Tried multiple compinations with Realtek HD audio manager settings.
Cleaned every plugs/jacks related on that.

So far, I couldn't been able to get the Headphone tag at all when Realtek is installed.

Thanks !

I'm pretty certain that there is a cable that you have to connect from your sound card to your gfx card...

Sound over HDMI from GPU

If you have a Radeon HD 4xxx series or newer it should be setting up your HDMI by itself, though you may need a driver from the website. http://ati.amd.com

Also, check to make sure that when you're hooking up to your TV via HDMI that your sound options have HDMI/S-PDIF as default...

In your sound control, located in the control panel, be sure that the hdmi device is set as the default. The hdmi device choice will be there if you're plugged up to your hdtv.

Hello. For a while now, my headphones that I usually plug into the audio jack are not working at all. I have tried several headphones, but it makes no difference. The only way audio will come out is through a usb headphone, usb adapter, or through the speakers (and also come out of the headphones at the same time) . I've downloaded and redownloaded my audio devices and I'm completely frustrated at this point. I've noticed that my speakers are set to go through the audio jack as well, and thought disabling them would stop this problem. But I was wrong. Nothing. I'm slowly getting more and more annoyed as the days go on without an answer. Please, I just need an answer. I need my headphones to work again. I've been having way too many problems lately, but this is by far the worst. The weirdest thing is, for about a few days it was magically fixed after an update, but reverted!? I don't understand, and I can't stand it anymore. Thank you.

Alright here's my situation:

I have a Core2Duo PC running Vista Home Premium 32 bit, hooked up to my TV using a HDMI cable. This has been working fine for 2 years now. Yesterday I decided to add some more RAM to this PC (4 GB instead of the standard 2 GB to be exact). I know 32 bit will only read 3 GB but I was thinking of upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit later.

Anyway I booted up the computer, worked fine of course, even watched a movie or two without problems. Then this morning I booted up the PC and I suddenly noticed the volume icon saying that there were no audio devices detected! I checked under Hardware and there are no audio devices whatsoever! So my HDMI cable is still giving me picture but no sound! Seeing as I'm using onboard audio I immediately booted into the BIOS and although I couldn't find a specific option that said onboard audio I did see something audio related being "HDA" (I assume HD audio) on automatic, the other option was ACRealtek97 or something. However it was enabled so no luck there.

Does anyone know how all of a sudden my HDMI cable isn't providing audio anymore? I even checked my Nvidia card which also stated that HDMI audio was enabled.

I hope anyone can help me, thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have just installed the audio driver for my motherboard, restarted the computer and it seems that driver doesn't do anything at all. I have the speaker icon in the tray bar with a red 'x' on it, and it says: "No Audio Output Device is installed". Why is that? I tried the driver that's on the motherboard CD and also the one from Realtek's website, and while they are different versions, the problem is identical.

Please advise.

Hello,

I'm gonna try and lay out my problem very simply, and then tell you what I have tried/done.

PROBLEM: When I plug in Headphones, I can not hear anything, and in the playback devices, nothing is shown to be plugged in. This goes the same for my other audio device which is a bose sound dock (for ipod but I connect using a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable)

Okay, so here goes. When I first build the system and installed windows, i wasn't thinking much of the sound as i was installing updates and video card drivers and what-not. I did, at some point, connect the bose to the computer using the 3.5mm jack on the front panel of the computer. It worked fine, I heard the little sounds the computer makes when logging on. Since then I have had troubles with my network card and ran windows update and various other things.

Now no sound works at all. When I realized this I tried:
-Changing the actual front panel cable that is connected to the mobo from hd audio to ac 97 (and changing the setting in the bios)
-Searched for many hours online trying many different solutions such as:
-updating drivers
-rolling back drivers

Other things i've tried:
-system restore
-update bios
-install audio drivers from mobo disc

I have moved past being extremely frustrated and I now just dont know what else to do.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback what so ever :)

Our ISP recently updated their hard ware to work with the Sprint network. Note: our ISP is not Sprint, but the local phone company.

Our Hardware:
Internet: DSL 10.0 (highest speed available)
Modem: Comtrend (ISP provides)
Router: Belkin N
Computer: 10 yr old Dell running XP - service pac3 - wired connection
Kindle Fire (first edition, no HD, etc) - wireless connection
Xbox 360 - wireless connection

Issues:
Xbox - went from constantly bumped from Xbox Live game by losing internet connection to not being able to enter a game at all
Kindle - went from occasional "network error' message during online tasks to having to restart download (multiple times) or refresh page for most any or all online tasks
Computer - have to click refresh to get most any page to load after the home page

What we've tried so far:
I have recently cleared the cache on both the computer and Kindle. XBox's new security measures have been met.

My questions:
Do any or all of these issues seem to be related?
Is there a piece of equipment or something we may be missing to make all of these things work? I am a networking novice.
Who should I call to get these issues corrected, my ISP or a tech service? Note: if I start with the ISP and they do not find an issue I have to pay for the call.

A:Multiple issues over multiple devices

First. You should try to NOT use a wireless connection for any type of gaming: PC, Mac, Console, etc. If you can hard wire the xbox you'll be waaay better off than using wireless.

Now... Yes, the issues could be related - there maybe an issue with the Belkin N router. I'd try to first reset the Belkin router to default settings, check on manufacturer website for instructions how, most routers you can press a "reset" button w/ a paperclip or ball point pen. Reconfigure the Belkin router, recreate the wireless network and see how everything works. If you are still having issues, humor me and connect the Dell directly to the DSL modem, bypassing Belkin router. See if you still have connection issues, if you do then it could be the DSL modem that is the problem and call your ISP to replace. If you don't have same issues then it's most likely an issue with the Belkin router. Replace it. Don't buy the dirt cheapest router at the store, but you most likely don't need the most expensive one either. Find a good middle ground router, ask sales associate to assist you accordingly.

Post back, Hope this helps!!

Hi, On my HP pavilion notebook the end of the headphones is stuck in that jack, currently I have a tool coming to repair that. Is there a way I can disable my audio jack. Headphones is not coming up in playback devices. The only thing that is is. Speakers/HP. I tried installing realtek software it will not install. It says it is installing the headphones than I switch it to the speakers as the default but then it switches back to the Speakers/HP. Will someone please help?

A:Need To Disable Audio Jack (B&O Audio)

The audio jack implies speakers or headphones can be plugged in to that jack.

If the notebook has an HDMI port, then a TV can be plugged into that and you'll have a different option to output audio to.

Hi there,

first i'll give ye the spiel about my laptop audio setup

I spilled a pint of vodka and blackcurrant all over the keyboard a few years ago, all this has damaged is how my speakers work (despite the wireless card and under the keyboard being covered in sticky sugar crystals)

(a) the two embedded speakers emit faint crackling when music is played at max volume.
(b)the embedded subwoofer works fine
(c) the headphone socket only works when a jack is inserted halfway in a very particular manner (giving audio to one desktop speaker only)

I've been using cheap "Trust SP 2750p" stereo usb speakers for the last few months (not interested in spending money on a proper external soundcard setup)

My question is: Can I configure windows or some application to allow audio playback through the usb speakers and the laptop speakers simultaneously? The internal subwoofer is pretty powerful and should sound quite nice combined with the usb speakers at reasonable volumes.

I've tried googling this but to no avail

Realtek AC97 soundcard, Acer 2003 wlmi,

TL;DR version:

Is there a windows xp config or software available that'll allow me to play audio through my usb speakers and internal laptop speakers simultaneously?

many many thanks if you can help me out
will

Look for audio drivers on the motherboard CD delivered to when after purchasing your system. If you can't find it or don't have mobo CD around, navigate to manufacturer website and download driver for audio device from there.

my computer's sound has stopped. I have searched through lots of websites looking for help.
I first noticed this problem when I tried to open iTunes and it came up with the message 'iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/video playback may not operate properly'. I also cannot listen to music or things online either.
I have looked at my computer's device manager and can't find any catergory such as 'sound, video and game controllers', which one site suggested to try and check the sound card. I have also tried to update quicktime but that did nothing. I have also tried looking at 'sound' and under both the playback and recording columns it says that there are no audio devices installed. THis appears to be the common phrase along a problem with the audio configuration.
This has not ever happened to my computer before and I have had it for about 3 years now. It is a toshiba laptop with windows 7 home premium.
Please help guys, I am really frustrated.

A:Audio configuration no audio output devices?

If its not being detected at all in the Device Manager, it will not show up anywhere else.

When you boot up your PC, enter the BIOS (could be called "Setup") and check to see if the sound is disabled. If it is disabled in the BIOS it will not show up in Windows. If its showing as enabled in the BIOS, do a BIOS reset (to factory setup) and see if that makes a difference.

If its not disabled in the BIOS there is a chance the hardware has failed.

Now I am having trouble with the microphone part of the headset. It is plugged in properly to the back of the computer in the correct jack, but for some reason under "Recording" it is giving me the message of "No Audio Devices Are Installed."

I have no clue what to do and was wondering if anyone out there could be of assistance to me?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

I just plugged in my old headset which IS a USB headset and it recognizes it but I am unable to speak, I dont know if its because the mic doesnt work anymore or if its another problem.

My new mic is NOT a USB headset, it has two different plugs, 1 for the headphones and 1 for the microphone jack in my computer. So is it because of that feature that my computer is unable to recognize the new microphone?

I had a problem with my headphone for a week.
I thought it wasn't because of the audio-jack.
I thought it was my old headphone.
Bought a new headphone today.
And the reason turned out to be the audiojack
There is still sound but it's really distorted, unless I twist and turn the plug in the audio entrance (the right way). The perfect sound only lasts a couple of seconds. VERY ANNOYING!
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Very glad if someone knows.

Hello.

I am searching for a way to play the audio from my pc to my speakers and my stereo set.

my stereo has a USB connection, my speaker set uses a mini-jack.

When I plug both in, only 1 plays the actual audio.
I googled around and it seems that that's just the way how windows 7 is programmed.
I download virtual audio cable to try and fix it, but I didn't know my way around it, started fiddling and failed.

My question is, can I forward the sound to the stereo-set and still have the same sound playing from the speakers?

Also, since it's actually a 2.0 and a 2.1 set, would it be possible (by using specific software) to make it a 4.1 set and so make it behave as such?

I hope it's understandable what I wrote, if it isn't, tell me and I'll try to explain myself better.

EDIT: since it's a problem in the software of windows 7, I put it in this section, is that okay?

E2: Also, my pc sometimes just freezes up and plays sound at 1/10 of the speed, cracks and then after 10 seconds just revives and goes along as if nothing happened.

E3: Also, at startup I sometimes see a glimpse of the command prompt (cmd.exe) could this be a bad sign or am I just paranoid?

Greets!

A:Multiple sound output through USB and mini-jack (on windows 7)

The audio source on your computer will only play on one output at a time. You could plug a Y jack into the headphones port and send that signal to 2 inputs, but it won't go to USB

I have a strange problem with my PC's front audio jacks:
I use my computer with a television through HDMI, in order to get sound through the TV. The TV's headphone jack is difficult to get to and plug something into, and my computer has an audio jack on the front (which has never worked until now)
I got it working today by playing around with the settings in Realtek HD Audio manager; however, whenever I plug my earphones into the PC, they are not switched to and audio continues to play out of the TV. To make use of the audio jack I have to switch it to the default device, and then audio will play through my earphones.

This may sound lazy but I don't want to have to go through that every time I want to use my earphones. Consider that I will most likely be in the middle of a game, so it would be a pain to quit out, change the default device and start said game up again - especially if it's a multiplayer game.

I shall point out now that the only way I could get the front audio jack to work in the first place was to disable auto detection in Audio Manager.

So, what I'm asking is, is there any way to make it switch to the audio jack when I plug in my earphones?

Hello out there!

I have a HP desktop system with the standard audio jacks on the rear.

Evidentally the audio out jack is defective. It only works after I spray some contact cleaner into it, and only then for a day or so. Then is goes back to scratchy/intermittent sound, or none at all until I spray more contact cleaner into it.

I already replaced the male part of the jack itself, and that didn't help anything. So, I took the HP covers off hoping I could access the female jack end for some more in-depth cleaning. But, I found all of the jacks are covered by a single metallic box which appears to be mated to a circuit board.

Any thoughts on how I can fix this?

I was thinking of sticking a very small amount of aluminum foil in the port to make better contact, but I'm afraid that might cause even more problems, and I may not be able to get the foil back out.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I play on a gaming PC so always I use the headset I have to play with others. Before I would have to twist the two plugs (headphones+mic) a bit in order for me to get the message "You have plugged in a headset". Now after switching Power supplies I don't get that message whatsoever. It seems as if those jacks as well as the ones on the back don't work and do not respond. I can't set my headset sound device as my default because it says my headset isn't plugged in. I've tried this for multiple headsets and speakers and have gotten the same results. The USB Jack is fine just those small circle hole jacks that you are supposed to plug in for headsets and speakers. Same Jack like the one on the iPhone. Sorry, I don't know much about computers so it's a bit hard to explain but please help.

The audio jack on my Acer laptop isn't working properly. When I plug in my headphones the sound is working but the laptop speakers are working at the same time and Realtek nor Windows aren't sensing that any headphones are plugged in.

This is what Realtek Audio Manager looks like with or without my headphones plugged in.

And this is what Sound in Control Panel looks like.

A:Audio jack problem

It sounds like a hardware issue - when you plug the phones in, the plug should deflect a contact in the socket, either breaking the connection to the speakers, or tripping a circuit which does that electronically. If you can access the works of the socket, you may be able to fix it by bending the contact (slightly!) so it works, else replace the socket.
Hope this helps

Well this is a real simple question, but I want something that you can plug speakers into, to make it have like 2 ends coming off it (if that makes sense). What I want to do for instance, is have the same set of speakers plugged into two different computers. The computers are about 2 feet apart so it doesn't have to be real long either. I want this because I have a 2.1 sound set up on my better computer that I use mostly for games, but it goes noticeably slower while running iTunes and then sometimes the music skips. I don't plan on playing a sound from both computers at the same time either. What I'm asking is, what are these called, or can someone give me a link? I couldn't find anything on newegg, but i think that might be because I don't know what they are called. Thanks for the help!

A:Audio Jack Splitter

It's called a "Y" splitter, and you can get them at Radio shack (I've purchased them there before to use my headphones and speakers on 1 soundcard without having to unplug the headphones to use the speakers). Here's a little diagram...hope it helps. It should be exactly what you need, so you can take it down to the local computer store and show them what you want to do. You'll have to buy some more speaker wire (Female to Male) to run between the Y splitter and the computer(s).On the flip side, you might get out of it cheaper if you just buy a new 2.1 set of speakers ($15 HERE from Walmart).Hope this helps...if not then let us know!

As you have a desktop (that's what you list) you can remove the connector at the motherboard for the front panel headphone/mic jacks. Unless HP has a proprietary connection, there will be a connector for the "HD Audio" (Or on older systems AC97).

If its not marked on the motherboard, check the HP documentation to find it.

That will get the speakers working again, until you can get a new front panel assembly for the case.

Audio jack is not working in my laptop Dell Inspiron15 series 3521.
When i plug my earphones in the audio jack of my laptop and play music then audio is played in speakers not in earphones.

A:Audio Jack Not working

You didn't say which Windows version and bit version is running in that Dell laptop.

What's the exact "service tag' number and/or "express service code" number on it?

Have you checked its volume control and sound properties settings?

Hello all. This is my first topic. I used the forum's hardware detecting too with success. Great software. And great community either. As I've see there are lots of people here with both high windows technical skill and will to help.

My issue: no audio in the front jack. I plug phones on it and I got no sound from any software or media at all.

Back jack is working fine.

I've seen many people posting here about this same issue but I could not find a solution regarding my system's specs.

Any help would be welcome.

A:No audio in the fron jack

You list "High Definition Audio Device" as the sound card which suggests all you have is the generic, basic function, Windows installed sound drivers instead of the correct motherboard vendor's sound drivers. If this is the case, the first thing to do is install the correct Biostar provided sound drivers.

Second, has the front panel mic jack ever worked? Can you plug in a mic to the rear Pink mic jack and will it work there? Is the front panel connection to the motherboard plugged in and correct? If the front panel connection has an HD Audio plug that should be used over the older AC 97 connection, as the HD Audio (with correct sound driver) has sensing that the AC97 does not have.

A:Audio jack problem

Hello. sorry for the delay in replying but some problems with the Dell forum prevented me from seeing your post until now.
On the Inspiron 3521 model, there were some headphone jack problems related to one specific version of the Realtek audio driver. However the issue did not affect the Windows native audio driver, so if you have already tested the jack with the native driver then it could be a hardware problem.
To test, switch between the Realtek and the native driver.
If the headphone jack does not work while you are using the native driver then it is almost certainly a hardware failure, especially if you have tried different sets of ... Read more

I use w10 on 3 devices, a mid range gaming PC, linx7 tablet, and lumia640. On the whole the experience is pretty good, syncing works well, reminders, alarms, contacts etc. This was one of the reasons I opted for android early, using chrome on a PC gave a similar, yet skimmed down, one OS feel.
I've not had one BSOD since updating the 'rig', my mobile works great, and the tablet is amazing for ?49! I was talking to my father in law who uses all 3 main OSs every day, and we both agree that windows just feels more 'grown up' than iOS or android. He wants a win10 phone next to replace his android (he'll have to keep the company iPhone4).
So like I said, does anyone else have a similar experience?

A:Who else uses w10 across multiple devices?

yeah i have no probs with my Lumia 920, HP work laptop and 2 of table computers at home.

just pisses me off to have the same background on each computer and i seem not to be able to find a setting to keep that sync out

I want to use the audio simultaneously from my ati 4550 HDMI, Sony blue-tooth speaker via usb BT dongle, 3.5mm jacks on my mobo, and also from a spdif and digital coax linked to the mobo via on board header to expansion bracket with ports.

I know this all may sound like overkill, however I don't have the funds for high end switches / replicators, etc. So manually changing them has been a hassle.

I have done some reading and I know se7en doesn't let you. I did this with xp x64.

Anyone know of a "work-around" or hack to enable all devices at once?

From what I see, you can only have one "Default" Playback device so I doubt that what you want to do can be accomplished.

Hello, Last month I built my own computer. I am having a problem with my Front I/O audio jacks.

- Headset is Beats by Dr. Dre Solo HD

- I have went into BIOS and enabled my Front I/O

- My front I/O is properly connected to my Motherboard

- My driver is Realtek HD R267 (Newest driver)

I have looked up this problem for quite some time but can't find a way to fix it. People have said to go into Realtek Audio HD Manager and click on the folder next to analog and untick disable front detection. I don't have this folder.

Any help is appreciated i'm 16, this is my first computer build myself. If you need anymore details just ask me below.

Thank you.

Hey I've been having a hard time separating channels on my onboard sound card ever since putting on Windows 7. This is a computer that is built inside my car. I am using RCA to 3.5'' to connect the speakers to the computer. I have front speakers in the green, rear speakers in the blue jack, and subwoofer in the pink. This always worked perfectly on the Windows XP Realtek Driver, but I can't figure out how to get it to work with the Windows 7 Realtek driver, it only lets me do audio out on the Green port. I really don't want to use Windows XP, so if you guys could help me out that would be great!

Have you been into your audio/soundcard properties and set it up in 5.1 speaker arrangement. sounds to me like it is still on the default, 2.1 two speaker setup just on your green output port

My computer is a Dell Dimension 2400. The output audio jack in the rear will intermittently cause a loud hum when I connect to my stereo, which goes away when you wiggle the connector in the jack. Headphones connected to the same jack are fine. I just invested in a new Monster cable. Strangely, I also just noticed that the hum will also be affected if I jiggle the power strip. I am comfortable soldering surface mounted parts. How can I fix this? Can I get a replacement part?

Thanks!

A:Rear Audio Jack Loud Hum

You might want to pwer the computer down and run a pipe cleaner with some isopropyl alchohol on
it to clean the contacts.
You also might be able to use a small jewlers screw driver to bend the contacts out slightly.
Be careful when doing this.
You are getting a buzz because the ground is not contacting properly.
I have a front port with the same problem.

hi there,
I is there a way to change a 3.5 jack to audio header so that i can plug it into my motherboard. i have googled it and would this be ok my motherboard is a asus sabertooth x79. the reason why i was wondering is there i was thinking about buying a built in speaker for my pc a i have a spear drive bay.
thanks

A:3.5 jack to audio header converter

I am assuming you want to install something like this into your drive bay? (or something similar?)
STW STW-9005 5.25" Drive Bay Desktop Computer Audio Stereo Speaker - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

Never seen a 3.5mm phono to a 10 pin AAFP motherboard header connection but one could easily be built. Easiest way would be to remove a front panel I/O connector from an old case. Connect the 10 pin AAFP side to your motherboard, then connect your drive bay speakers male 3.5mm connection to the female 3.5mm line out connection.

Just to note ? the motherboard AAFP audio connection is line level only. Good enough for low impedance headphones and connections to a powered, self-amplified speaker(s). But it may not have enough power to drive a speaker without amplification. In fact, trying this may even damage your motherboard. Make sure whatever drive bay speakers you are installing has a built in amplifier.

A:static from front audio jack??????

sogone209,
My first thought is to have you make and unmake the connection into that front plug many times and even hit it with air or better yet to use a little contact enhancer on the pin and make and unmake the connection. What happens is if the connections are barely being made then noise and interference can make it's ugly and noisy presence known.

Hello. I have been using my TurtleBeach EarForce P11 headset for a long time and just yesterday, they stopped working. After a long time of looking in to it and trying to find the problem, I found out what's wrong. Please see pictures below

The audio jack is meant to be recognized on my TurtleBeach headset, not the Realtek HD audio. I don't know how to change it so that the audio jack is recognized on my turtlebeach headset. I currently get no sound through my headphones because of this. The headphones are enabled and set as my default device. I have searched around for a while trying to look for a fix to the problem and so far, nothing works. Any help would be very greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm running a Dell U3415W monitor connected via HDMI, using the monitor speakers.  When I plug headphones into the top audio jack, a notification pops up informing me I have done so, but no sound comes from the headphones and the monitor speakers continue to play.  If I do the same thing using the rear audio output, the monitor speakers cut off and audio is routed to the headphones.  This worked on my XPS8300.  What am I doing wrong?

I am currently using an Asus laptop with windows 8.
The laptop only has 1 usb port and an audio combo jack.

I have bought several headsets with mics with either the combo audio cable or one with the 2 cables and used s connector to plug them in to the audio jack and the mic won't work. The headphones work fine and sound great but no matter what I do it will only pick up the mic that comes installed on the laptop.

This is not a problem if I use the usb port but that is no longer an option since the tracpad has stopped working.

I've tried several solutions I've seen posted on the forms and so far nothing has worked. Is this a lost cause for me?

Hello flukezoid and welcome to the Vista Forums

Could you provide some further information on the actual hardware involved,
is this a desktop or laptop
is it a "major Brand" or "hand built"

Quite often with home builds the actual physical connections are not made or the bios settings can be incorrect you may want to check the bios first to see that the correct options are set anyway as many systems have alternatives

When I plug in the headphones then the sound continues to come out of the speakers. When I check the sound devices it shows that the headphones are plugged in (the audio test works with the headophones) but the music will continue to play through the speakers. What's worng here and how do I fix it?

Thanks.

If you haven't changed any sound configuration, try a System Restore back to a date when it did work properly. This may fix the problem.

Hello, I recently bought a new PC and I've immediately run into an audio problem that I can't figure out. I'm getting no sound at all from the rear audio jack. I'm getting sound from the front jack, and the rear mic jack works. When I plug something into the rear jack, a message pops up acknowledging that there is something there. When I've checked the sound settings while plugged into the rear jack, the equaliser is moving, indicating that it IS receiving sound. But nothing is coming out when I plug headphones or speakers in. I can rule out a fault with the speakers and headphones, since they work just fine coming from the front. All of the drivers are up to date. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A:No sound from rear audio jack

Hi there @PrimoFigs, I hope you find your Support Forum experience a positive one! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are not getting sound from your speakers when plugged into the rear audio out ports. I am happy to give you a hand with this. Have you tried to connect another device to that port whether it is a different set of speakers or ear buds , headphones just to test if any of them work? Is anything plugged into the front port at the same time? If yes, then disconnect that device, and try the back port again, and let me know if there is a change. Also give this a try: HP Desktop PCs - No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 8). Please let me know whether any of hose suggestions work for you, and if one does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

I've seen lots of posts about audio jack issues but none with my system.  I have an AlienWare 15 with Windows 10.  It won't detect the 3.5mm audio jack.  I have the Creative Sound Blaster Recon3Di driver, states it is up to date.  Tried uninstalling it an rebooting but it seems to stay installed.  When I have headphones plugged in and try to detect disabled and disconnected devices it doesn't show anything.  I can get USB headphones to work but really just want to be able to plug into the headphone jack!
Thanks for any help,

Have a look at this link. IT should contain some information about sound quality and things: http://homerecording.com/index.html
I'd also just suggest giving it ago and seeing what the quality is like. Good luck.
