IE closes one some web pages

Q: IE closes one some web pages

I get an error message whenever I open certain web pages, and Internet Explorer closes. I get the standard option to report the problem to Microsoft, which I have done repeatedly. (Does this really do ANY good?)

When I have this problem, it's always the same sites over and over again that close. Your site is one of them, so I am trying to do all this from my work computer. Therefore, I don't have my browser version or other stuff like that right now. I am running XP. There are also a handful of sites that close only every once in awhile.

My hijackthis log is below. I use Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster and SpyBot Search and Destroy pretty regularly, but if you spot anything malicious, tell me how to get rid of it, too. I keep getting stupid popup ads, even though I have the newest security patch of XP that is supposed to prevent that. And they always come from the same site, which is not on my "allowed" list. But I digress.

Hi,

I have Acrobat Reader7.0.
When I am on a web page & try to open their PDF file, I keep getting an IE window:
"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem & needs to close...."
Send report/close.
Which when I hit close IE closes all pages.
I don't have a problem opening my own saved PDF file.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have this problem: Some pages close automatically (before the page gets loaded) when I try to open them. I tried using firefox to open these pages, but the same thing happens. I would click a link, and it would be loading. However, before it finishes loading (new page is still white) the browser/window closes by itself. Currently, if i type the word "sponsor" and press enter to either look up the definition or search the word up, the browser closes. It also happens on certain forum threads and when I'm try to login on a certain website. Can anyone help me get rid of this problem?

Heres some things you can try

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

This could also be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite)
Download / Install / Update / and Run:
Adaware SE check for any updates before running it.
Get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. You can download it at this SITE
To run this tool, install to the hard drive, then open Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection.

Download and install Spybot S&D . Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

We are running Windows XP.When I start up my account on my computer, I get an error saying Google Installer encountered a problem and had to close. If we go into firefox, and type in a page, the browser often reroutes to another page, such as hxxp://www.physicos.com/search.phpWhen i start up firefox i get a message that asks if i want to make it my default browser. it always was and this is something the bug changed. even if i click yes it asks next time i start firefox.Eventually the browser freezes and the mouse moves around but we can't click anything and have to shut down the computer. I typed most of this from safe mode.If we try to use Internet Explorer (not our usual practice) it simply shuts down after you surf off the homepage. My husband has seen some popups on his account, and the bug installed a bunch of dirty icons on our desktop....THANK YOU TO WHOMEVER HELPS. When searching for answers to my problem, I ran across this thread on this forum from 5/18/05: Multiple issues - Homepage hijack, popups, IE browser closes, blue screen. A moderator went through quite a bit of instructions to fix that problem.

I was wondering if those instructions would work in most cases of similar problems, like mine.

An example of what's happening is Internet Explorer 6 and Netscape 8, both close when I enter my password on ebay and hit ok. I can sign in with Firefox 1.0.4, but when I try to download Turbo Lister, FF closes.

All three close when I try to reach www.marine-atlantic.ca. It starts to load, then BAM! It's gone.

When trying to access Panda to do a scan, all three close when I hit the scan button.

There are numerous other sites that do the same thing. A lot close when I try to enter password protected sites (that I am registered with).

A Trend Micro Housecall scan found nothing.

Ditto for McAfee, MS Ativiru, AdAware SE and Spybot.

Hey Guys,

I'm using the latest version of Firefox, I've encountered a problem which I can't take anymore. When surfing the net for example: start from my home page (page 1), click on to this site (page 2), then I'll click a sub forum (page 3). Once I click back on the browser it goes from (page 3) to (page 1) skipping (page 2). This happens around 50-60% of the time. Or if I have 2 windows open and again if I click back on one browser it will terminate both windows.

This is becoming very annoying, and making it very hard to surf.

I've ran my anti-virus program (AVG), many spyware and adware programs and everything comes back clean. I tried a different browser "Opera" and it also skips pages back as well.

I've searched for info regarding this on google and came up with nothing.

Any help would be great!!
Thanks,
Anthony

A:Browser skips or closes pages when using the back button

This could be quite normal operation (depending on the web pages you are viewing)

ie Some sites will ONLY allow you to go back to the Main Page when clicking on the Back button (usually to do with Javascripting)

As a good measure, default all settings in Internet Security and any web browser.
But again I think it may be Normal.

So earlier today I noticed there was some issue with a lot of pages load pages loading up for me. FOR EXAMPLE.... A lot of pictures (not all)
Appear distorted like so:

In an attempt to work this out myself, I updated my java and adobe flash shockwave to it's newest settings. But yeah.... this is where I'm at. Any help would be awesome.
I don't think this is a graphic card issue, as this is actually happening on all my computers.

I'm using the most current up to date firefox.

Hi,

I appear to be having trouble with my firefox browser.

My operating system is Windows 8.1. I have an Acer Aspire V3-772G which I bought some 18 months ago.

System details:

Processor: Intel® Core i7-4202MQ 2.2GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
Installed Memory (RAM) 16.00 GB DDR3 L Memory
System  type: 64-bit Operating, x64- based processor

A few days ago my firefox browser, which for no apparent reason at all, just seemed to slow to a stupendously very slow loading of pages. I had recently just been working on an issue in which I posted a thread regarding whether there was a possible virus/malware after google chrome terminated with the following message from Hitman Pro Alert:

Attack Intercepted
'Google Chrome 49' has been terminated to prevent execution of malicious code. Please check your computer for malware and software updates

As it happened, it appeared to be because of a conflict somewhere in the Google Chrome, Trusteer Rapport and Hitman Pro Alert combination, and so the only way was to change the settings on Hitman Pro Alert as advised and shown in my thread:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/611273/possible-virus-or-malaware/

However, there was no malware or virus detected by my own Avast or Malwareware bytes tools, and the tools used as instructed in the thread also showed my system to have none. Also, google chrome works fine, and my computer has not slowed in any way. My fir... Read more

For the last few days I have been getting some odd behavior when I try to access my accounts on several websites. When I access the legitimate website and try to log in, I am redirected to a phishing page which asks for account information, including credit card numbers, ATM Pin, etc.

There was one other post I found here that had what appeats to be the same problem, but I have not been able to successfully remove the issue myself from following the help you provided to him. (http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/736876-solved-ebay-paypal-fake-web.html)

Using OTScanIT and modifying slightly the fix script provided to the other user I was able to briefly get my Ebay account working again, but when I tried to access my bank account (Wells Fargo) I am now being redirected to the fake page again. I'm not sure what information it would be helpful to include here to help analyze what is going on. I recall having had this same problem once on another computer which is no longer experiencing the issue, but don't know what exactly I did to resolve it other than installing Avast and running a full clean (which I cannot do here, as this is a work computer that will not allow me to replace the existing virus scanning software). I do have limited installation capabilities on this machine, and have installed HijackThis and OTScanIT as well as Malwarebytes to aid in resolving this.

Please let me know what if anything I can do to fix this situation, including... Read more

Hi guys ( and girls )

I have an Acer Asspire 5332 running Vista.

A month or so ago the CD/DVD rom stopped working. Device Manager states it is unable to start and updating driver/uninstalling device etc does nothing either, other than recognise the drive as "standard cd rom" whereas it is actually a dvd rewriter. Acer tech support say that windows should pick up the driver automatically and cannot understand what the problem is. They do not provde a driver for the cd/dvd unit.

Then, in the last 2 weeks, certain web pages have failed to open, namely Hotmail and Facebook. All I get is a blank page with no error message Also videos on all sites intermittently work and don't work, saying I need to install Javascript which I already have! I have done all the usual checks and fixes ( internet options / javascript uninstall reinstall etc, as well as un-installing internet explorer itself.

Using another browser ( Safari ) opens up all pages including Hotmail and Facebook fine, but I still get the issue with the videos.

Does this sound like a virus? I have run Avast scan, and Malwarebytes and CC Cleaner. I am posting a "Hijack this log" for any braniancs to look over. Not sure if it is one problem, or several but doing my head in !!!

thanks in advance,
Rob

I suppose the title says it all, my computer has some sort of infection where every search in google in both firefox and internet explorer redirect the searches to random pages. Additionally, typing in certain addresses simply won't load where I know the page should work, such as certain links on microsoft.com. Furthermore, I have enabled Automatic Updates and it tells me that it is not enabled even though it clearly is in the settings and going to the update page through internet explorer simply does not work. I have read through various other forums here at bleepingcomputer.com and followed their instructions but nothing has fixed the problem so I figured I'd post as well and start fresh. A huge thanks in advance to whomever is able to help me out. So, where do I begin?

Whe printing multiple copies from Word 2003, (SP-3) Service Pack 3, all pages come out of the printer blank. This happens on my Canon Imageclass MF5550 printer but not on my HP 8100 inkjet. Printing from email, wordpad and notepad work. I reinstalled Word and the Canon printer driver to no avail. I called Canon tech support and they had me print from Wordpad and since it worked they said it's not their problem.

Hi newbie here so go easy on me

My mum has a realtively newly built PC (about 2 weeks old), and has XP Professional installed along with Norton Antivirus 2003.

She is using dial-up internet with an external modem, and although her default homepage (bbc) loads straight away after that browsing becomes progressively slower and slower. Some pages do not load up at all after a while and she is forced to turn off her connection and try again. She cannot access any secure sites at all (for her internet banking and buying things). She has cleared her cache to no avail.

I have been told to see if a firewall is blocking secure ports 443, 84 and/or 8443. I'm not sure how to check that? I'm not even sure she has a firewall installed at all?

Should she try Mozilla Firefox? Should I install Norton?

I've checked her dialup internet provided (lineone/tiscali) and there appears to be no problems?

Help :grinthumb

I can not open files like gmail, without first deleting all the cookies and temp files, EVERYTIME. I tried following a link to aol, and I get a blank screen with the "done" on the bottom.
I went into a web based program that stores data and then generates things like adoption reports and I can access the report OR print it, it just stops and goes no further.

I am crippled by this, I am on gmail DAILY, please tell me what else to do, somebody told me to delete host files or search for them ??????? IDK

Ok forewarned this is a high level problem.

So I had a problem with IE where it wasnt storing pages in history, I closed all my IE windows, and using ccleaner wiped the history file (I assume was corrupt) and that fixed that problem, but I made a new one, info as follows.

I normally on IE my first IE window has about 15 or so tabs loaded, which I use as reference points, for whatever reason I didnt bookmark these tabs but simply they were always loaded in the firs tIE windows after reboots etc. so basically on reboots I would close this IE windows last, and on the first IE window after reboot I would select "reopen last browsing session" from the menu to recover these tabs understood so far? What I did with ccleaner wiped this session, and those pages had hugely important info to me in them.

I have no system restore point to get it back.

I do have a norton recovery image 10 days old.

Now the new problem.

Norton recovery images are made with the system running, almost certianly I had IE open at the time. So there is no me importing IE files, starting IE and simply selecting "reopen last browsing session" as when norton did its image IE was running. So this leaves what?

The crash recovery data, when IE is running it stores data on whats currently open incase it crashes and so can recover.

In the image I have mounted there is the following folder. (Q drive)

Q:\Users\Chris\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery

Inside it is various dat... Read more

A:importing IE9 recovery pages to get loaded pages back

Ok I have done it, here is how.

IE prepends its recovery files with 'RecoveryStore.'

and each session file is named like this '{9AC84612-1C85-11E3-AF5A-001B213DE643}.dat'
So a recovery file is like this 'RecoveryStore.{7ACE6B97-256F-11E3-96B2-001B213DE643}.dat'

When IE is running it has a registry key matching the name at 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery\Active'
The key is without the prepend and file extension so such as '{7ACE6B97-256F-11E3-96B2-001B213DE643}'

If IE closes down successful the key is deleted from the registry.
If it crashes the key still exists, so on startup IE checks for the key and loads the associated .dat file to recover tabs.

So I have them recovered luckily.

How can I convert my cgi pages into html pages. Can I use some server side script.

Thanks for your Time.

A:How to convert cgi pages into html pages

cgi is the script behind the scenes and the html is the result. If you don't want any of the functionality the scripts provide just cut them from the page. If it is active content HTML alom will not cut it and you will have to use something server side like ASP, PHP, ColdFusion, etc in place of the cgi

Hello

A friend of mine has this problem. Has a low speed broadband connection with Bigpond (Telstra) - uses IE and Firefox. the problem is he cannot move from the home pages that loads to any other website either via a link or typing a search or address.

If you change the home page and re-open the browser it will go to that website, even when it would not before if you tried to move to it from the previous home page?

Modem as been reset and re-configured. 2 browsers have been tried. Calls to technicians only resulted in advising there is a problem with the modem? (if the modem can ping a remote pc and see a homepage that has not been cached surely the modem is ok?)

Any ideas welcome...

There are twenty or thirty sites I visit regularly.

Recently I've been having some problems. Some sites I can visit like normal, but some sites I can't. I get "cannot find server" errors.

I cannot visit 9/10 websites on the internet because of this.

I have run Search & Destroy, Spyware Doctor, HouseCall, HijackThis, and the virus scanner on pcpitstop.com. I've run some of those in Safe Mode as well.

I cannot ping a website with cmd, but if someone else gives me the ip for a site url I can't visit, and i put the ip in the address bar, it will work like normal.

I've tried using IE and FireFox. I'm currently running FireFox (on XP) because I'm concerned about the security of IE during this problem.

I've done a system restore to before the problem but it didn't help.

There are three computers in my house, two of them are affected, one isn't. So I don't think this is an ISP issue, but I could be mistaken.

Is anyone out there familiar with this problem?

Keep in mind that any links or such you provide me I will most likely not be able to follow, because the page likely won't load. If you suggest I download something please provide a direct link to the zip/exe file.

Thanks in advance.

Hi me again hoggin the threads lol. I notice quite often than when I'm looking at a page, any page it goes freeze, off and back on again, but within a split second, it seems to be happening more often also. It is more annoying than anything, but when I'm downloading stuff from soulseek it causes me to lose connection and whatever is downloading, it then goes back to something 74 in line, so it is a right pain. I'm wondering if the modem might have something to do with it as sometimes as well as the rdy & the sync lights being on continuous, all the others sometimes are flickering on and off like christmas tree lights especially the usb light. It might not even be connected to the screen problem but I've no idea what to do to stop my page freezing and going even if it is in a micro second, though last night everything just froze for about 2 minutes, which was really doing my head in. I'm running XP and NTL Broadband 1mg.
Cheers,
John

Scanning a physical document for digital storage requires scanning of the document, which is considerably quicker if two sides are scanned together.

Is there some freeware program (if possible running on Windows) to deskew and separate the two pages automatically for the whole created file (pdf, djvu, tiff...), creating an ordered document with a single scanned page per page (or at least a file with the odd pages and a file with the even pages). It is somehow more complicated than using a script of Autohotkey, since not all scanned pages are exactly located at the same position, and therefore the parameters of a page to be splitted do not necessarily apply to all other pages.

Thanks in advance for the information.

This problem actually was happening in internet explorer 6 and 7. I am not sure when the problem came about because most of the time I use Firefox with out a problem. I need micro$hit for testing and it runs on it's own pc. I all so have some programs that will only run well on windows, like skype and helpzilla. I won't let it near my Ubuntu Linux. The only software in have installed and uninstaled was Bitdefender as I could never get it to scan and their tech support sucks. I have installed AVG. and uninstalled it but Internet explorer 8 still opens and closes right away. I am using windoz XP home edition with SP3. I have tried to remove and reinstsall IE several times. I have deleted any registry keys I could find and have deleted IE from the HHD. This will remain important to me until the rest of the world discovers Linux. Thanks
I forgot to say IE8 dose the same thing in safe mode. I have tried uninstalling in safe mode, you can' install it fully in safe mode

Lately we have had several times (mostly when logging in) that we connect to the internet, then click on Internet Explorer and it opens a page like it's going to go to our "home page" and then the page closes - without ever having gone anywhere. I thought it was specific to the URL we had designated as our home page - USATODAY which we've had for years - but it has totally shut down on my when I've been in Yahoo too. It doesn't happen all the time so I'm stumped as to what is happening. I deleted all cookies in case there was a corrupted cookie associated with USATODAY, but that didn't seem to make a difference. And like I said, I had it happen after I'd been on the net a while and working with Yahoo. I use Windows XP on a Gateway computer that we just installed a new hard drive the end of November - it came with nothing loaded on it - I did it all. It has happened before and after a full Virus Scan so I'm not infected with anything that I know of. Any insights into what's happening?

Sounds like a virus or trojan to me, maybe winreboot or Closewin

I suggest you go to the malware board and post a hijackthis log.

I posted this once before, was asked to upgrade Hijack this and post it again. I didn't get a response to my repost, so I'm starting a fresh thread.

Please Help !!!I am having some problems with my internet browser and am not sure what to do about it. The problem goes as this...About 6 months ago, I started encountering a problem that everytime I have a webpage or multiple webpages open and a pop-up gets blocked, all webpages close. The same thing happens when I have multiple webpages open and close out of just one, they all close. I intially thought it was a problem with my pop-up blockers as I run 2 different ones, they are Pop-Up Stopper and CheckIt 86. I have tried turning both programs off but the problem still persist. I run Spybot S&D and Ad Aware SE quite frequently and can seem to find nothing wrong. Any help you can offer to this problem would be GREATLY appreciated. This is kind of getting out of hand and VERY frustrating !!! Thanks in advance for any help you can provide !!!Diggem(Moderator edit: thread moved to more appropriate forum. jgweed)

If I restart explorer it usually works at least for a while. Only thing new that has gone into the computer is

Do a System Restore? I am not a techie!!!

Hi imconfused -

Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Systen restore - There is a "calander" looking item -
Select a date marked in early April > Click on it > Click OK ,and it will ask to confirm the restore > Click OK -
Then sit back while the system shuts down and then restarts - On restart it will ask you to confirm the restore > Click OK - DONE -

The program that it says has the error, says it's BT Yahoo?. Wheter she says send or don't send, the internet closes down. Apart from contacting her service provider, what could the problem be. Hi, Would like to have you post a log from HijackThis, a program (very tiny) that we use to see what problems exist.
There are .zip form and .exe form, take your pick.

Download it here:

http://radiosplace.com/

Or here.
It's a direct download so be ready with the folder for it.

Basically, you create a new folder, the desktop is OK provided you make a folder, name it something like HJT, and download TO that folder, run hijackthis.exe from there. If there are users of the computer who might start HJT and use it, hide the program in a folder elsewhere!

Such as> C:\Program Files\thatfolderyoumade\hijackthis.exe

When it is done scanning> the Save log button will become available, save the log as hijackthis.txt which will open with Notepad. Go back to TSG, open your post, and copy and paste the entire logfile into a reply in your thread (here) and wait for advice.

Please do NOT use HJT yourself to remove anything, most of what it shows is good and needed by the system.

Hello, I have a few users who have had problems with MS Word closing on its own. They both use XP Pro (SP2) and they both use Office 2003 Pro. What basically happens is that the user will notice that the program will just close automatically when they multi-task with other programs: Outlook, Web, etc.

I tried looking on the Internet for a possible solution but I haven't seen anything really pertaining to this problem. Please provide me with a possible solution for troubleshooting this error. I haven't ruled out reloading the programs yet. Thank you much.

A:Word Closes Itself

Hmm. I want to clarify a few things. You say this happens when the users are multi-tasking.

Does Word 'close' when they are actually using Word or when they are using a different application?

Have the users received a message saying that Word must close? If not:

Have the users in question opened task manager to see if Word is still listed under Applications?

Hi All,

I need help here, Win 7 on Dell Vostro 64 bit os sp1.
-Anti Virus: Norton Security Suite 5.1.0.29

Ie 9 is where the issue started if opened it would close instantly. the 64 bit version is / was fine. Opening with no add ons had no change.

I uninstalled IE9 only to find the problem stayed, IE8 32 crashes and IE8 64 bit works fine... The no add on for IE8 has no change.

Running either as "Runas Admin" no change. Also resetting IE had no change. Logging in as Administrator and running it had no change.

Creating a new user and attempting to run it had no change.

One other issue that might be related I can not uninstall Java 6 update 25, it states the MSI is missing and I cant find a copy any where to remove or re install and remove.

Thanks

If you have not followed the instructions, see http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/remove_olderversions.xml .

IE 8 may be damaged, I would simply reinstall it, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie-8 and then reinstall the applicable critical updates.

Hi

I have a PC running Vista Ultimate and the monitor keeps going blank and the blue ON switch changes to an orange Off/Standby colour, all I have to do to switch it back on is push the sleep button on my keyboard twice, once does nothing that I can tell

This does not happen in any orderly fashion, sometimes it will do it 20 minutes after switching the PC on, sometimes it can take 2 to 10 hours, sometimes more, before it happens.

I have tried the monitor on another PC and it ran three days without issue, I then turned it off and put it back on this PC.

Things I have done to sort this out are.

1) I check that power management control panel is not set to sleep, hibernate or switch off, all being set to Never or off so it does not activate the function.

2) I ran extended Memtest in dos and Windows Memory Diagnostics for several hours and no RAM errors were found.

3) I tested the hard drive in Seatools for dos, extended test and no error were found.

4) I ran the FUR Graphics Card Stress test and no issues were found, I have a 512 Meg nVidia card 3 years old

Does anyone know what else I should do or give an idea of the problem hare.

Any help appreciated.

Regards

Daniel

A:Monitor closes

When you're monitor goes blank, does your system go to sleep? There was a problem in SP1 where, if you put your system to sleep using the keyboard, the system wouldn't wouldn't come out of sleep mode. There was a hotfix but it only applied to SP1. You couldn't have SP2 installed.

I had a very similar problem a few months ago and it turned out the monitor was going bad and, eventually it did. It was a monitor power supply issue and, rather than getting it fixed, I just bought a new monitor. When you connected the monitor to the other system, was it ever cycled on and off?

Well, i havent been able to play red alert 2 on my new computer, im wondering if its something to do with windows or my graphics card.. card is ATI Radeon 9200SE. It just opens, goes black and then closes.. i've tried running the program in 98 capability.

A:Red Alert 2, just closes. :(

Works fine for me. Make sure that you have the latest version of directx and all of the windows updates. Also be sure to download the latest drivers for your video card.

If that doesn't fix the problem I would recommend reinstalling the game.

If you still have difficulty you need to be more descriptive as to the speed, memory, make, model, operating system version, and the things that you have already tried to do to fix the problem.

~GICodeWarrior
PS. You shouldn't need any compatability mode options for Red Alert 2.

Please download HijackThis . This program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Double-click on the file you just downloaded. Click on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\PROGRAM FILES\HIJACKTHIS\ Run a scan and save the log file. Post the content of the log file here [using Copy-Paste] with your next reply. One of our forum analyst will then advise you after duly analysing your log. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless. Make sure to include the System information at the top of the log as well.

IE 8 closes when I go to certain websites. The ones I've noticed are my bank: https://www.usaa.com/inet/ent_logon/Logon and LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/ I have done various scans on my computer and disabled add-ons, Reset IE 8, etc. From looking at various forums about this issue, I believe it has something to do with the Restricted Zones. I downloaded and used Zoned Out from funkytoad.com to remove all sites from the list. There are some sites that continue to reappear. The next thing that was in the post I was using for advice said when the same thing happened to them, they had to go into the registry to get rid of those sites in the Restricted Zone. I'm not comfortable doing that on my own. I looked at some more forums about the Restricted Zone issue and think that maybe Registry cleanup program I started using recently may have contributed to the problem? I use Uniblue Registry Booster.

I have windows xp professional. Everytime I go to the bed bath and beyond website the webpage opens and then my brower closes automatically. If I have more than one brower window open, they all close. I disabled Norton Internet Security long enough to see if a setting on there may be blocking it but my browser still closed. I can't figure out what is blocking this particular website (one of my favorites). The last time I accessed this site was a few weeks ago and it opened fine. The only difference between now and then is that I got a popup error after turning on computer that said "Winfixer 2005 service currently unavailable." I ran Ad-Aware Personal SE and it still happend. So, I bought online the download for Spyware Detector to see if I could get rid of the popup. It didn't so I restored my computer to an earlier date and the popup didn't appear again. Then I downloaded Spyware Detector again and ran it and removed many items it recommended. But noticed that my mouse was acting erractic and jumping around. Next, I restored my computer again without Spyware Detector and that is where I am now. So, I can't load and keep open the bed bath and beyond website because it shuts down all my browsers. Don't know whether I should get my money back on Spyware Detector and try another spyware program or not.
Thanks for any help you can give me!

I have Windows XP Professional on a Dell Dimension (6 months old) computer. I've installed SP2 -- but my problem began before and continues after installed SP2. I use MS Word a lot. I open MS Word to use it and start to write something or paste something into a new document. Then, I may need to go to an email to check out some information or go to IE6 to check something. I find what I want and then click on the MS Word link on the task bar. I try to re-open MS Word but it immediately closes and I've some of what I've started composing although I may get some of it back when I go back to Start and click on MS Word to reopen it again (as long as I have "automatic save" every 1 minute turned on). This is so frustrating. I've tried repairing MS Word via the Control Panel's Add/Remove feature. I've run several different kinds of virus checks on my computer as well as SpyBot and other similar programs--I seem to have no problems with my computer but the problem persists nearly every time I wish to use MS Word (2003). It is so unstable I've thought of installing MS Word 2000 as it was always so stable and dependable. Do you have any suggestions that might help me.
Thank you very much. Jim

A:MS Word closes

Hi,
Try the fix for a lot of MS Word issues.

Search for and delete all copies of the MS Word template file

normal.dot

Restart MS Word which will recreate it.

Next

Carry out virus scans with fully up to date signature files or on line

http://www.sarc.com

or

http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/consumer/products/housecall_launch.php
Then download and install Spyware removal software.

Ad-Aware, Spywareblaster, Spybot & CWshredder. All easily and readily found with google.

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/10/17/10-17-150.shtml

Run each, update all of them and then run again, removing everything found.

It appears you have some sort of malware on your system that is blocking the Command Prompt and Registry Editor from opening.

My fiance is having a strange problem with IE6. It is closing intermittently with no error message. It does this while she's playing slingo, updating prices on Half.com or just surfing the web. She's running WinXP Pro SP2, Nav Corporate 7.61 latest Defs, Office XP, AMD XP 2600, 256mb Ram. She doesn't do much with the PC other than surf a little and play a few online games like Slingo.

I've tried using Spybot and Ad-Aware to remove any spy-ware but still no luck. My last effort was to apply Service Pack 2 for XP. There are no other issues with the PC so I would hate to reload it just for that.

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Make a folder on your hard drive, like My Documents\HJT
Download Hijackthis.
Unzip the file to the folder on your hard drive.

Double click on Hijackthis.exe then click on the "Scan" button, then click on "Save Log".

Copy and paste it back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.

I have Win XP SP2 and notice when I finish reading messages in the Inbox, click to close, there is another Inbox page with no messages on it, just the OE toolbar at the top, no files menus and appears very briefly, and then OE closes. I have other PCs and have tested to make sure I'm not crazy, that it's closing with a second Inbox blank page. It does not happen with any other folder from OE, just the Inbox. Other than that OE 6 works fine.

Any ideas are appreciated. I'm at a loss. Thanks.

I mentioned not so long back that the chrome browser was closing after being opened and then getting a report that Chrome did not close properly! So after many weeks of this, I decided to return to firefox, in spite of the so called spyware.

Just now, I opened Firefox to do a Google search for somewhere, and - it shut down. When I reopened it, it opened on the page that had crashed. Google search.

So, it either not just chrome, or its a google thing? Weird? Anybody else getting this?

When I go away from my computer, and leave it on deliberately, the monitor goes black and the green light blinks continuously. I don't want the computer to go off at all unless I turn it off, because I tape a radio program that is on for at least for one hour. I want the program to keep recording until I turn it off. How do I stop the computer from closing like this when I am not with it?

A:Computer closes down

The question is, is it actually turned off? It may just go into a power-saving mode.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Power Options. I would change the settings to:

Turn off monitor: After 20 Minutes
Turn off hard disks: Never
System standby: Never

The monitor being off should not affect the recording at all.
