Solved: Some web pages close immediately after loading

Q: Solved: Some web pages close immediately after loading

This post is in connection with the AOL and IE problems post but I want to have a separate post for my Hijack This log.

The problem is that IE is generating errors when certain pages load (seems to be no pattern to the type of page - that is: secure, lots of images, lots of links etc). This problem translates to the AOL browser as well since it seems to use the IE program (somehow) to access the Internet. With AOL, the page loads then immediately closes.

I restored my version of IE back to 5.0 then reinstalled SP 6.0 to see if that would help, no dice. I'm using a Win98 OS with AOL 7.0

As a side note; this forum will not load in AOL or IE under the current circumstances (Using the Mozilla browser as I post)

Help would certainly be appreciated

I have winxp with internet explorer 8. I downloaded firefox 3.6 and as always, loved it. It worked perfectly. Then I upgraded to 4.0 and added one of the very few themes yet created for 4.0. When it closed and reopened the page loaded minus the filler that the theme would have had-the entire top menu was unreadable and blended together with only the desktop underneath the window showing instead. I tried to uninstall and reinstall my first version and it repeats the same thing. Then I tried seamonkey and again the same thing even with seamonkey. I am now using the only one that seems to work on my pc-internet explorer. I miss firefox a lot and wish I could resolve this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. My pc is an Asus eee900 and is 512 RAM.

A:firefox only loading parts of pages at startup; unable to close

Go to C:\Program files\Mozilla Firefox and delete. Your add-ons, themes plug-ins, etc. were not removed when you uninstalled Firefox. Now download the latest version.

On this windows XP Pro laptop when I start the system it goes to the select profile screen. When I select the User it starts to load the profile and then immediately displays "saving settings" and then logs off. I have tried to start in all three safe modes but it still does the same logoff. I have booted to an XP Disk command prompt and ran chkdsk c: /r. Upon completion the system continues to load and reboot.

I have searched the net and not found any answers.

Has anyone else experienced this?

LOL Sounds like a Practical joke someone told me about. They setup a BAT file to run at startup that shutdown the machine. I would look for that. I hope it is that simple though. :P

Okay, here I am again. I've already posted regarding this problem, but I thought I had it fixed when I restored my computer to factory settings. No such luck, the problem has returned. This time I will be more specific about what is going on. I can not access any microsoft web pages, I can not update, I can't access my hotmail account, can't use messenger (kids are going crazy without it). I have had norton installed and ran a scan, no problems detected. Now i uninstalled it. Please let me know what to do now. I personally think it has something to do with Messenger not being compatible with Vista, so for now I've uninstalled Messenger also. What are some good free virus and spyware programs that I can run? Here is my current Hijack log.

I know people on here are busy and I guess my problem wasn't bad enough for someone to help and I understand, There are so many issues to address on here, some just have to figure them out by them self. After doing some research about this problem uninstalling Adobe 8.1 so that the update could install (8.1.2), I found if you go to Microsoft Windows Install Cleanup and install it, you can delete the old adobe version. Worked like a charm. After downloading MWIC you have to got to Start>All Programs>Windows Install Cleanup. Hope this helps someone out there. I find this forum to be a great help even if you don't get a reply from one of the Pro's. I try to find a thread that is similar to mine and go for broke. So far I have been lucky and haven't destroyed my PC by trying things suggested in these threads. Thanks, I really find this forum helpful. Joe

I have just started to use Mozilla Firefox as my web browser, and cannot understand why, when I close the program, but open it again later, my last web pages are still showing. In other words, If I want to get information on something, I go to that website, and after I close it down I cannot get rid of it, as it is still there when I go to Firefox for something else! I hope that I have explained this OK and would appreciate any help. Thanks.

A:Solved: Web pages do not close after viewing in Mozilla Firefox

Tools - Options - General tab - you have three choices for "When Firefox starts." If yours is set to "Show my windows and tabs from last time" you want to change that.

Windows 7, 64 Dell XPS 8000 system. All browsers (Firefox, IE7, Opera) exhibit same behavior, which is when starting from the home page and browse to another page or tab, the page will stay open for a few seconds and then close and the browser displays the home page. Also, when trying to open Outlook 2007 from Outlook Today, I cannot open the inbox. The only way to do so is "open in new window". This is also true when trying to open folders. Anti-virus scans result in zero infections; Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi!

If I type "regedit" into my start->run box, it immediately opens and closes. The same happens when I type "cmd". I researched the internet and was told this is probably caused by malware. So I bought, downloaded, installed, and scanned my system with Norton Internet Security 2009. The problem still occurred. So I downloaded ccleaner and cleaned everything including the registry. The problem still occurred. So I downloaded Trend Micro HijackThis, but have not done anything with it other than a system scan.

I followed the post at the top of the forum for the steps I should take and did them all except Kaspersky is going to take me a long time so it's currently running now. Can someone please help me?

edit: I solved the problem by downloading emco malware destroyer

I have found that some programs have begin to exhibit this behavior when I try to open them: The program appears to open momentarily and then closes immediately. In some cases, there is a variant behavior, the program opens and immediately displays an introductory dialog box asking me to make a choice. Once I make that choice, both the dialog box and the program itself terminate. Many other programs on the same computer do not exhibit this behavior, but run properly.

So far, I have identified this behavior in 4 separate programs:
Microsoft Publisher (from Microsoft Office 2000) (the variant behavior- opens a dialog then closes when a choice has been made)
Version 6 of the Delphi programming language (closes immediately after opening)
Screenhunter -- a screen capture utility (closes immediately after opening)
Open office (displays a dialog asking which office product is desired but closes as soon as one is chosen).

Until recently, I have used all of these products for years on this same system without difficulty.

After experiencing this problem and not finding a solution, I re-imaged my main hard drive with an image that was created over a month ago -- before the problem surfaced. After re-imaging, I tested each of these programs and the problem was no longer there. This was a few days ago. But the problem has now occurred again.

This happened to me with Firefox on my Mom's laptop. The story goes that she was using McAfee that was free from Comcast, and then she upgraded to Norton because that was being offered for free by Comcast to replace McAfee. So, I helped her install it and then Firefox would do exactly like you're describing: it would open and then close.

After fighting with it for a while, I finally figured out how to make an exception or something like that for Firefox in Norton and then it finally worked. I don't remember the steps I took so I can't describe how to do what I did - nor do I clearly remember it, but I do know that I had to tell Norton to allow Firefox or something like that. So, I believe that you have to do the same with these programs.

I apologize that I can't remember the specifics.

Hello,

We have a 2 year old Dell PC. It has been a great system for our needs up until now. It has windows XP Home addition.

Recently, programs that are designed to get onto the internet will not remain open. You open them and they close after one second of being open. IE does this, and we tried installing netzero which worked for about two days and then it started doing the same thing. The norton anti-virus software is doing the same thing. And last night, one of my photo editing programs did it. Opened for a split second and then shut down.

I tried installing AOL and it will not complete the install. I tried installing Walmart online. It will not complete the install. I did this to try to get the thing online to download XP updates and fixes in case something was missing.

I finally last night downloaded AVG anti-virus software on this computer and loaded it onto a CD. When I ran the software it did find a trojan named: Trojan horse dropper.Generic.RA in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\. It is now located in the virus vault and says that it is not healable, that the source is the Backup copy and that the Status is infected. I don't know what this means for sure. I am assuming that this means it did some damage and though it is removed was not deleted from the vault. Perhaps one of you can correct me if I am wrong.

For a while now, when we start the computer we have been getting this warning, though I am not sure if these problems are related.

Please help. I am running windows 98 SE. Regedit and msconfig close immediately after opening. There is something I was gonna delete to see if it was the problem, but it is running and I cant find a way to shut it down. It is called winupd.exe. Also, I set my homepage to what I want it to be, but when you restart the computer, it goes back to a page that says "Search for...". Seems I have lots of problems here. I have run Hijackthis and here is the log. Please help. Im spending way too much time trying to figure this out with NO luck.

I just formatted my computer to Windows XP SP3 and my problems are that some of my programs close a few seconds right after I open them and the same programs that close by themselves also corrupt themselves after a few hours.

For example, I open my program called CCleaner. When I open it, it works fine but it just crashes in like 0.5-3 seconds after I open the program. Eventually, the program's executable corrupts itself and the program stops working.

I have a fix for this where I change the file name of the program's EXE to something random like fxasf.exe then it works fine and doesn't corrupt itself but it's becoming a problem because this happens to other programs where I can't change the file name otherwise they'd stop working.

This may be related to this problem: Whenever I redownload the programs that corrupt themselves, the download freezes right before it finishes, this only happens to the programs with the 2 problems.

Can someone help me get rid of the source of this problem please?

Hi,

My husband's computer is having major issues. A few days ago, his hard drive failed and he put in a new hard drive. Ever since putting in the new hard drive and reinstalling Windows XP, when he opens certain programs, they open and then immediately close. It happens to Internet Explorer when you go to certain websites. It won't let you install many spyware programs, the install opens and then immediately shuts down. It won't run AIM, this is the first program that we noticed it on.

Could it be a virus or just a problem with Windows XP? We have wiped the disk clean and reinstalled XP several times?

Thanks in advance for the help!

-Rebecca

Could it be a virus or just a problem with Windows XP?Could be malware related or it could be the result of some other issue. What type of anti-virus are you using and when was the last time you ran a scan? Have you tried doing a scan in "SAFE MODE"? What anti-malware programs are you trying to install?Have you tried performing any online Virus scans? Here are a few to choose from:Trend Micro Housecall <- Use "Autoclean" and manually delete what it can't clean.Panda ActiveScan <- Accept default settings. (does not remove adware/spyware but will autoclean for viruses & worms.)F-Secure Online Scanner <- Be sure to follow the directions on the F-Secure page for proper Installation.BitDefender Online Virus and Malware Scan <- Add a check by "Autoclean".eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner. <- "Cure" whatever is found, manually delete what it can't cure.Be sure to read the eTrust Antivirus Scanner Help Guide before scanning.[Watch the Address bar in IE. I recently cleaned a laptop with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware because of a Scareware program that had been installed.

After the cleaning and thorough scanning of MBAM and AVG 9.0, the browsers on the machine will not open. IE8 opens a browser page for less than a second before closing down, and Firefox only shows a crash report. Safe Mode Firefox does not open either.

After reading through the posting directions, I believe the reports you are looking for are below:

Yes, definitely. And while I'm at it, I hope you bought your PC or Office software someplace reputable.

Go to Technet at http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp?fr=0&sd=tech&ln=en-us

Choose Office 2000 from the dropdown as the product.
Type "immediately closes" in the keywords.

You'll get a few choices to choose from.

Hi,

Since three days both internet browsers installed on my PC won't start (IE and Chrome). Or rather close immediately after I start them. (I am entering this thread from my office PC)
I didn't install any programs in between when they worked and stopped working (did copy files from a CD-ROM).

Some things I tried:
- logging in as my wife (we have got two users installed) - same problem
- clearing the user settings of Chrome (i.e. deleting the folder). After doing this the browser works for about 30 secs. and then the same problem occurs (either using it to browse or not using it gives the same result)
- scanned the PC for viruses (Windows anti-virus) and malware (Spybot) ? nothing found
- start IE with extensions off
- I also installed HijackThis. Couldn?t find anything that looked fishy, but did not have an expert look at it
- Using either WLAN or LAN doesn?t make a difference (tried it just in case ? never know ?)

Both programs are the latest version.

Any ideas?

Best regards,
Roy

A:Internet browsers (IE & Chrome) close immediately after opening ???

Hi,

Tried some more:
- de-installed Google Chrome
- de-installed Java
- de-installed IE Google toobar add-in
Didn't work yet
- run a registry cleaner

After restart IE works again. Typing this message from there.

Seems problem is solved although I have no idea what caused it. Didn't like Chrome anyway though because it crashed on me several times a day. Installed it because IE was becoming very slow. But that's another story.

So for now: problem solved.

It does not appear on any of the 7 virus scanners that I have run since then. But...Now I can open IE, but whenever I click on any link or bookmark, the application automatically closes. A:Ie And Other Apps Randomly Close/crash Immediately After Being Opened

Hello;

The cause of your problems is most probably because you are having several Security suits installed.
This really doesn't make any sense, because they are incompatible, can cause these problems you are dealing with, and won't help you protect you in a better way, on the contrary.
It causes also a serious system slowdown and can cause BSODs as well.
It's like you are building your own Security Center.

This is what you have installed:

Kaspersky Antivirus
Escan/MicroWorld AntiVirus
Norton Internet Security
Antivir

You may only install ONE of above. So uninstall all the rest and only keep the one you purchased or you prefer.
Reboot after uninstalling.

Then post a new hijackthislog.

Hello, to anyone out there who might have a possible fix for me.

I have Office 2000 Pro. and every time I go to start up Office I get in for 2 sec. then booted out.

I receive this on all programs, I been trying to repair Outlook first, If i interact with the menu options I can keep the program open, as soon as I deselect it closes. I have done a detect and repair to no avail, I have uninstalled and reinstalled, actually that is when all my office programs became troublesome. I tried all the SR's, and I know people are able to get the program to work fine when you go into /safe but alas I can not. Heck I tried most switches with Outlook, and nothing has worked. Maybe a full uninstall/reinstall is in order....However I hate to do it because I love to trouble shot, and would really want to fix this by means of help, I am sure I am not the only one out there who had this problem. Or knows why it happened.

Hope to get some help
Thanks In Advance

You can read my earlier thread about some web pages not loading for details on the problem.

The solution was a setting in my D-Link router. My ISP had made a change and that negatively impacted customers using a D-Link router. By changing the MTU field from1500 to 1492 the problem was solved.

My thanks to the people here who read my original post and gave my problem some thought.

Hello,
I've been having trouble loading certain websites on my laptop and two other computers in the house since last weekend. These websites include msn.co.uk, aqa.org.uk, not being able to purchase music from iTunes, school websites, bank website and a few others among these.
I have had confirmation that these websites work for other people, so I don't think it's the websites that are the problem.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Norton internet Security on my laptop yesterday, but the problem still remains. This Security is on all three computers. Cache, cookies, history has been cleared also.
Pinging these websites results in a 'timed out'. Other websites seem to work fine, but there are quite a few that will not load. I should mention that all computers use IE.
If anybody could help figure out and solve the problem, it would be much appreciated. I haven't the greatest IT skills, so please take it easy. Any questions just ask and I'll respond asap. Thanks very much in advance.

Hello everyone, im fairly new to this, so please bear with me.

Recently, ive been having trouble with my computer. It started one morning when i went to go check my email. My main browser is google chrome exe so naturally i go to click it. Which is when all this starts -_-. i double click on it, but the program doesnt open. I try to open it by left clicking and running as an admin but still no luck. I soon realize that this is the case for ALL of my programs except Internet explorer, which i find strange considering the similarities with the other browsers. Anyway, ive read previous similar problems on here, and i download Hijackthis. I have a log folder that i can post if needed. Also i see something when i try to open the program quicky enough but i cant make out what it is before it closes. There is also a suspicious search engine called searchqu.com406 that comes up as soon as i start internet explorer Keep in mind this doesnt happen in safe mode, and evrything works fine, just like the computer was regularly before. Ive tried multiple Malwarebytes scans, stinger, (which is still scanning after 25 mins) and AVG (which begins to scan, but then a command prompt comes up and stops it) all to no avail. Any help would greatly be appreciated Please and Thank You

I have done a system restore with no change. I have run AVG scans, Windows Defender and nothing is found.

One day also, my Gadgets disappeard (not the sidebar, just the Gadgets) and the option to Restore Gadgets is grayed out. In general it is acting wonky. Any help? Thanks.

I am using Windows xp & IE 8. Web pages either are very slow to load or don't load at all. I did not have this problem 2 days ago, and can't think of anything unusual that I may have done to cause this. Any help will be appreciated. TIA!
I am using AVG 9.0 Internet Security and Trend micro Housecall. All scans come up clean. I'm using a linksys router that I've reset to no avail.

A:Solved: pages loading slow and not at all.

Hi,
I have a dual core laptop with 2 GB RAM. I share my internet connection with another computer thru a router. There is a huge delay when the pages are loaded on my web browsers. I tried IE7, firefox, netscape, opera and a few other browsers. My connection is not slow at all (download speeds are usually around 500 kbps). Once i click on a link, or type an address, it takes a long time to open, and in the status bar, it shows "Looking up <web address>" for a long time before it changes to "connecting". I even compared it with the other computer on the same network, and its really quick.

What could the problem be?

PS: oh yeah, i use windows firewall, same as the computer i compared it with.

A:[SOLVED] Pages loading very slow

Please do not run any registry cleaners as they can damage your computer.

What webpages does this happen on? Have you tried to update Adobe Flash? What browser are you using?

You really don't need two anti virus programs running. One is fine.

At my wits end here. Initially figured that I had TDSS or a TDL4 variant, ran TDSSkiller which detected and removed it, then combofix, on reboot am still infected. Ran malwarebytes, superantispyware, the microsoft malicious software removal tool as well to no avail. Ran a MBR checker and determined that the MBR was infected, so I used an XP cd, booted into the recovery console, wrote a new mbr, immediately booted into safe mode and ran combofix again; still infected when xp loaded up. I couldn't attach a DDS log as it keeps closing, so I have attached a hijack this log instead.

Other behavior I've noticed:

*Malware creates a random .exe file in either \WINDOWS, or \Documents and Settings with a gold & red colored shield icon, with a random filename such as 'svcproxyutil.exe' or 'xmlcheckapp'
*Creates files starting from FY1.tmp all the way up to FY7.tmp
*On delete of the suspicious randomly named .exe the file is immediately re-created by explorer.exe or services.exe (I checked this using the old sysinternals filemon tool)
*Process Explorer is also closed immediately when opened unless I rename the .exe, in which case it will run.

I'll cut to the point. I got a virus from a file I downloaded from Kazaa Lite. AVG Anti-Virus Resident Shield did not stop the virus from infecting my system, which upset me a great deal. So, enough chatter. Let's get to diagnosing and resolving.
Symptoms

- Task manager and registry editor close immediately (less than one second) after they are opened
- Task manager and registry editor both open just fine in Safe Mode
- Task manager works fine when I copy taskmgr.exe to taskmgr.com and run the .com file. Same goes for regedit.exe and the regedit.com clone
- Experiencing the following problems as reported on the Symantec Security Response report on W32.Spybot.Worm:

Creates and shares a folder on the KaZaA file-sharing network, by adding the following registry value:

"dir0"="012345:<configurable path>"

to the registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\KAZAA\LocalContent

Copies itself to the configured path as filenames designed to trick other users into downloading and executing the worm.

Methods Proven Ineffective to Resolve Problem

- Found and deleted all files created in the aforementioned generated Kazaa share folder, with the help of AVG Anti-Virus
- Deleted generated Kazaa share folder (C:\WINNT\system32\shellext)
- Ran partial scans on suspected directories using Trend Micro Housecall
- Ran full scan using Panda Software ActiveScan. NOTE: This scan did detect and remove a virus, but did not resolve the prob... Read more

Hello, when I sign on to my computer, then click my user, it won't load. There is just a black screen with the cursor. I've tried using ctrl+shift+escape and typing explorer.exe, but the task manager immediately has an error and closes. I think the problem with this is that all the files with an .exe close within a few seconds after opening.

I CAN use the computer with the administrative user. I can access my files and transfer them over to my admin account. The problem with this is that all my preferences and settings from my user are gone.

Does anyone have an idea on how I might fix this my corrupt user account?
Thanks,
Brad

Hi folks,

having problems with IE and firefox.

It seems that over the past couple of days Windows has had a lot of updates and Firefox has been upgraded also, and since the 17th of Dec '09 I haven't been able to connect to some websites (example being www.uk.msn.com), but others appear to be fine. It's the same problem with the same websites/webpages for both IE and Firefox. But, the weirdest thing though is that the aol browser (which I normally never use as I hate it) appears to be able to connect fine to these sites ( ???? )

My comp is a Dell pc using XP, i have Avast as my antivirus software, and I'm using Windows firewall

I have an account with Aol to connect via broadband to the web

IE is currently version 8.0.6001
Firefox is currently version 3.5.6

Things I have done,
I've checked for spywear & malwear with no unusual results
I've scanned for viruses again with no results
I've cleared cache, cookies and histories for all the browsers
I've done "system restore" to a time before the problems started
I've repaired my broadband connections with the web

I've just tried in IE
'Internet Options' -> 'Connections' -> 'LAN Settings' -> to uncheck the proxy server option but it was already unchecked

I have also done TRACERT in the command window to www.uk.msn.com and these are the results

Guys,

Very, very slow page loading last night and today. Also had some issues with MSN Search/Alta Vista. Do all these search engines share data? Graphics don't come up on Yahoo at all. All AV/malware removal software has been scanned/updated. Temp files cleaned up and defragged drive last night. Sure that it's Yahoo. Are they preparing their Beta-Mail change over? Other pages with graphics (Google, sites I frequent, come up great.)

I have just installed angry birds from the Chrome store. It works great the first time I go to play it. Then, when I close it out and I think it only happens when I restart my computer for the first time afterwards, it stops loading anymore. Now, when I go to Angry Birds to play it, it starts to load the page, but then it just goes to a white box and nothing happens. I can hear the music playing in the background as if it's running, but I can't see anything on the screen. If I run Angry Birds in incognito mode, it works, but it will not save my progress this way which is unsatisfactory. Also, if I uninstall and reinstall Chrome, it will work again, until I shut my computer off again. There are also other webpages I have found that have this same behavior that aren't games. For example, the mlb website Phillies Schedule | phillies.com: Schedule does the exact same thing where it starts to load, and then just goes to a white screen. Anybody know why this is happening and how to fix it?

Suddenly today I'm having a problem loading web pages. All was normal yesterday. When opening my default FireFox browser to my home page or loading a bookmarked page, the browser hangs and will not load the page. Either the page takes an extended time to load, or it will not load at all unless I click the "stop" and "refresh" buttons in the address window. This problem is especially evident when trying to load a page with graphics.

For instance, when trying to load various pages from "Wikimedia Commons", the text for any particular page appears but thumbnails will not. Some websites load almost normally, and some will load only partially or not at all, and only after having to click the "stop" and "refresh" buttons.

Once a web page is finally loaded, the animation on the page tab continues to display the "loading" icon, (a spinning circle). Only by clicking the "stop" button does it finish.

This behavior is also evident while using the Google Chrome browser I also have installed, so this is happening in more than one browser.

My default Browser in FireFox 14.0, and my OS is Win Vista Home Premium SP2. I have multiple add on's for FireFox, among them Abine's Do Not Track Plus 2.2.1. All windows updates are current. I connect to cable internet through ethernet.

Any ideas as to what's going on? Any settings I can check or adjust, possible problem with ISP? Network settings? Test I can ... Read more

Hi all,

Please forgive a dumb newbie if this question has been asked (and solved). I have googled the problem but have not found a solution. So here I am.

My problem is simple. I am running a 2.7 GHz Pentium 4 PC with 400 MB RAM using Windows XP, IE7 and Norton AntiVirus 2007 and am on a broadband net connection. All web pages load fast EXCEPT my two favourite forum sites. One site takes 40 secs to load each forum page (although the home page loads fast) and the other site (including the home page) takes 20 secs to load each forum page (or edit post page, or quote page etc etc). This problem has only occurred in the past few months. I previously had no troubles with the forum pages loading. I suspected IE7 and "undid" it but that didn't help.

I have checked these forum page load speeds at a friend's place. He uses the same ISP, and has basically an identical PC to me, yet has absolutely no problems with the two forums that I'm struggling with. I checked every single setting in his IE7 Internet Options and they are identical to mine.

I have tried using Firefox as my browser and I have even tried turning off my the antivirus software in case it was causing the hassle. I always clear my cache, delete cookies and browsing history. Nothing has made the slightest improvement.

It is extremely frustrating when a snappy interchange is occurring on these forums and I am 20 to 40 seconds behind everyone. In the end, I just don't bother.

A few days ago my firefox browser, which for no apparent reason at all, just seemed to slow to a stupendously very slow loading of pages. I had recently just been working on an issue in which I posted a thread regarding whether there was a possible virus/malware after google chrome terminated with the following message from Hitman Pro Alert:

I recently downloaded numerous IE updates and I believe my problems started there.

I've run numerous software programs:

Spysweeper by Webroot

System Mechanic

Pest Patrol

AdAware

Spyware Doctor
All of which haven't solved the problem. I've even run a dllfix that has produced no results as well.

I have WindowXP home edition. I can go to certain websites and they will instantly load no problems, other sites just do not load correctly. I have broadband and it is acting like dial-up to the tee.

It seems that the frequently viewed sites have less trouble than lets say a site I pull up through a news site or other.

My computer is normally lightning speed when moving through the internet. No pop-up problems or the like.

I've tried looking up a thread on here close to the problems I am having but to no avail I haven't found anything similar to my exact situation. On my system mechanic I picked up and disabled a hotkeycommand process along with a Igfxtray program.

If I hit control/alt/delete keys all at once, I am running 30 processes.

I've been hedging on posting this question for a few days......I normally can fix problems on my computer before I ask for help.......but.......as you see, count the number of posts I have under my name. I've had problems in the past but this one seems to be going under the radar of all my software programs to fix it.

Thanks in advance, I'll run any software/post results/logs if you need them.... Read more

In internet explorer 6 and Opera, the very same pages load HELLA fast.

I have a Cable internet connection (by timewarner/roadrunner)

I'm PRETTY sure it was never like this before. Any ideas?

I've attached screenshots of both browsers on the same page of the "Posting Help" section of this website to compare.

I have tried uninstalling firefox and reinstalling it. Then I uninstalled it and reuninstalled firefox beta. I've restarted my computer multiple times.

I hope there's a easy fix rather than restoring to the point before I used all those computer cleaner softwares, because it took a couple of hours to do all that cleaning.

(To Chrome fans, I know Chrome is a good browser, but I use both Chrome and Firefox and would like to have Firefox fixed )

Thanks!

Edit: Oh, one more thing. When I go to gmail on standard mode, it NEVER loads. The red bar isn't even red. I have to switch to html. I have no problem with this on Chrome.

A:[SOLVED] Pages not loading correctly after computer cleanup

See if the "Cleaners" you used are reversible. If not, try a System Restore. I see you're a first time poster here. Most of our staff firmly recommends not using Registry Cleaners. Vista usually doesn't need cleaning up. The built in (Start>All Programs>Accessories>Disc Cleanup) will do the job.

I don't know if I should put this under Firefox or Other browser problems!
I used firefox up until recently when it wouldn't load web pages. I don't get a 404 or missing page or anything, it just stays blank. I've tried all of my bookmarks and nothing will come up.
I told a friend about it and he suggested I download Opera, but it's giving me the same problem.

Internet explorer is the only browser that will work, now, but it's as slow as it was before. I can't even open new windows when I click links, they refuse to load, argh..

Does anyone know how to fix my Firefox?

Hi newbie here so go easy on me

My mum has a realtively newly built PC (about 2 weeks old), and has XP Professional installed along with Norton Antivirus 2003.

She is using dial-up internet with an external modem, and although her default homepage (bbc) loads straight away after that browsing becomes progressively slower and slower. Some pages do not load up at all after a while and she is forced to turn off her connection and try again. She cannot access any secure sites at all (for her internet banking and buying things). She has cleared her cache to no avail.

I have been told to see if a firewall is blocking secure ports 443, 84 and/or 8443. I'm not sure how to check that? I'm not even sure she has a firewall installed at all?

Should she try Mozilla Firefox? Should I install Norton?

I've checked her dialup internet provided (lineone/tiscali) and there appears to be no problems?

Help :grinthumb

I'm pretty sure this is a virus, question is how do I fix it?

XP loads normally, briefly goes to desktop then goes to blue startup screen, where I'm forced to shut down/restart.

I've tried Last Known Good configuration, that doesn't work.

I've also scanned the hard drive for viruses from my other partition. It picked up a few but this hasn't fixed the problem.

Is my best bet a re-install?

I updated to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 yesterday. I have a HP Pavillion laptop and it was compatible for the upgrade. Since I have upgraded, everytime I log in it freezes immediately. I have left it for hours and it still won't unfreeze. I can't do anything on it and need it asap for schoolwork.

A:Crashes immediately upon loading desktop screen

You have the option to revert back to 8.1 within 30 days.
There still seems to be some issues coming out for those taking it up.
It might be best to try W10 in a month when bugs are ironed out.

Hello, I hope someone can help me with my problem.

What's really annoying is that web pages aren't always loading fully and properly. Often images will be in the wrong place, will be of the wrong size, or will not load at all. This especially seems to affect the Google and BBC websites - but that may simply be because I frequent those sites. Sometimes when I click links it takes me to random images from the preceding page... all sort of weird things! It generally affects sites I've visited in the past, but isn't affecting this forum, maybe because this is my first time here?

I have run the latest versions of AVG 7.5, Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware. I use IE7 and Firefox 2.0, but have tried reverting to the previous versions to see if this fixes the problem, which it does not. I have also deleted all cached files, updated my Windows fully and have run both the TrendMicro and Kaspersky online scans. I have no idea what to do. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

When I start the computer up, it says, "Windows could not be started successfully" and gives me the options of starting in safe mode, with last known good configurations, and normally. Each one I try brings me to the loading screen for XP pro, then reboots it's self an instant later. I'm rarely stumped here, but some help would be nice. I just need a general idea of what my problem is.

Hi, There is a Repair Tool for IE, if you have upgraded the version from that which was installed as part of Windows....
If you have XP you already have IE 6, but the repair may not be available from Add/Remove Programs, whatever Windows version you have, take a look there and see if
"Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and Internet Tools"
is there and click Remove for it....you will have 3 options, pick "Repair this version of IE" and run the repair tool. You may get a message that the problem could not be fixed. If so, run the Repair tool again, but pick "Restore to a previous version" and see what happens....you may just have to reinstall from a CD or by download from Windows Update site.

You cannot install lower versions over higher.
You might also have luck with System File Checker....for XP, you run a command line like this:

Start>Run, type in the space
sfc /SCANNOW
Hit Enter.

Which Internet Browser do you use?
If it's Internet Explorer 7 - Uninstall it in Control Panel...Add/Remove Programs and see if Internet Explorer 6 works without these problems. If so, then reinstall Internet Explorer 7 and try it again.

If it's Internet Explorer 6 - Uninstall Service Pack 2 and see how Internet Explorer works. Then reinstall Service Pack 2 and get all the Windows Updates that will be missing.

If this doesn't fix it, then we'll have to look at some of your other web settings.

At any rate, I have ran AVG 2011, SPYBOT S&D, Malwarebytes, Security Essentials (which will not update now)and Glarry Utilities, trying to get IE cleaned up. I even got a notice this morning that IE 7 was too old and to update to IE8, the link in the upper window was a legit MS web address, but near the completion of the upgrade a new window poped up showing the MS Fix it logo but the address was a UK address so I killed the process thinking it was a hijacker.Any ideas? So here is the problem. It all started one day when my free trial of Norton was running out. i uninstalled it and installed AVG free edition 2011. My internet worked fine for about 45 minutes afterwords and then i shut off my laptop. When i powered back on and tried getting online (using firefox 3.6) my home page (facebook) would load partially then stick at the loading phase. When i tried to go to new sites it would remain at the loading stage on facebook. This problem still occurs.

Solutions i have tried:
Running Norton Removal Tool - No fix
CMD prompt using Netsh something another to reset some things - No Fix
I cleared cookies and my cache - No Fix
i used malwarebytes, AVG, and Ad-Aware to search for virus ect. - No viruses and no fix
I tried using IE8- no fix same problem
I tested my network connection using ping command - ping would detect the IP of the site i tried but all requests timed out with 100% fail
I used ping command to test 127.0.0.1 - all requests passed and 0% loss
I used tracert- same effect as the ping requests time out.
I have turned windows firewall off, reset, and tried the browser - No Fix
Additional information:
*I have 2 laptops and the one i am on now works fine. So i know it is my computer Specifically.
*Downloads and program updates run as normal. only web page loading is affected

I am using Win HP 7, and use Google Chrome as my default browser. When I try to go to an already open tab, I can't access it - instead of switching to the tab, it closes it. The only way I can go to a site on a different tab than the one opened at startup is to open a new tab, then type in the address. Ex: I have my browser set to open my homepage, google on a separate tab, and another site on the third. Since I just opened the browser, I'm initially on my home page. But if I click the tab I wish to go to, instead of going to the already opened page, the tab closes. I cannot access the browser settings either. The only times this ever changes is if I restart the entire machine, however, that is no longer "fixing" it. I want to know why this is happening, and I think either my local or roaming profile may be corrupt - in the past one a few occasions I've booted my machine, and gotten a msg. before Windows starts that it cannot access my profile. On the few occaisions this has happened, I restarted my machine and it loaded a usable profile.
Thinking it may be something in the browser settings that is doing this, I tried to open them, but can't - it just clicks and does nothing. (In Chrome only.) I have tried uninstalling Chrome, restarting the machine, downloading and reinstalling the Chrome browser. While this fixes the problem in the short term, it always happens again. I can't open my bookmark manager to back up my bookmarks and do not want to lose them again.

I am using a Netgear DG834N modem/router that we moved onto our second phoneline (homeline) that was previously installed on our (now closed down) home office phoneline. We are using the same equipment, provider and provider plan but now we are having major connecting issues. About every second web page will not open. If you refresh, sometimes it will load other times you get the "IE cannot connect to.." This is becoming increasingly frustrating. We run both wireless and hardwired PCs and laptops and use IE, firefox and/or Safari. We run Kaspersky or bitdefender, windows 7 and XP. We can watch re-runs of Tv shows and you-tube no worries. It is the connecting in the first place. It has to be either the provider or the modem/router. Suggestions?
