Q: Solved: HELP - Mini Web page stuck in the corner of my desktop

A while back I opened a link in OUtlook. For whatever reason - that site is now permanently a part of my desktop. I can't get rid of it and I've tried everything I can think of. It sits in the corner of the screen behind my icons. It is not just a shortcut -

I have Windows XP Home Version 2002. Service Pack 2

I was in a webpage and chose FILE-SAVE AS to save the link to a file in My Documents. I ended up with a 2"X3" 'mini-webpage' that is STUCK on my desktop.

I went to the My Documents file and removed the actual link.

The 'mini-webpage' remains on my desktop. I cannot move it, hide it or otherwize affect its existance. However, all the links within the 'mini-webpage' work.

Any suggestions re: removal of this pesky problem?

A:Mini web page STUCK on desktop...remove??

It depends quite a bit on what operating system you use.

A:Solved: Mini webpage stuck on my desktop!!!

Right click on the desktop, click Properties \ Desktop \ Customize Desktop \ Web. Do you have a web page set for the desktop? If so delete it and uncheck the box on the bottom “ Lock Desktop Items” Click OK, Apply and OK.

Since I renewed my subscription to Norton Antivirus on 1/20/2009, I have sometimes gotten a small box in the lower right hand corner of my screen saying "Norton Antivirus is currently performing background tasks." I have no clue what has caused that little box to popup. but there is an "x" in the upper right hand corner of the box and when I click on it, the box would disappear. That is until today! Now that box appears to be stuck in the lower right hand corner of my screen. Clicking on the "x" does not make it go away and I can't even move it to another location on my screen. It is not only annoying, but for some programs there are things that I need to be able to see and click on in that corner, but the Norton box keeps me from being able to do that.

I hope someone has an idea of how I can get rid of this...other than removing Norton all together and switching to McAfee!

A:Solved: Norton Antivirus - box stuck in corner of screen

Which version of Norton Antivirus do you have? If you have any other version of Norton Antivirus other then the 2009 version you are eligible to a free upgrade to the 2009 version. You caa download it here: http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/kbload.jsp?docurl=step_lun_update&selected_nav=1&pvid=

Even if you do have the 2009 version it may have not installed correctly or removed the old version correctly. In that case go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall all entries related to Norton Antivirus, Symantec, LiveUpdate and LiveReg. and reboot as needed. Then run the Symantec Removal Tool from here to cleanup the left overs: http://www.symantec.com/norton/supp...2&seg=hho&ct=us&lg=en&docurl=20080828154508EN

Then reinstall the downloaded version of Norton Antivirus 2009 from the link I gave above.

Here is a funny situation.

http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/2158/18001791.gif
I have no idea how it got there. But there is no place to drag it.
I tried changing the resolutions to no avail.

Anyone with a trick to move it around?

A:Solved: Window stuck in the corner of the screen without any option to move it?

I may be way off here ...

It looks to me that little window is a "sub window" of the Cubase 5 window and you are not showing the top of that window. If you scroll the Cubase 5 window up there is still no way to move the little window?

This may sound confusing but let me try to explain what happened. I have 2 computers and an A/B switch. The personal computer (Windows Vista) is never on the internet. I was using the personal computer with a wireless mouse and keyboard. I wanted to backspace and the keyboard wouldn't work. I switched to my internet computer (Windows 7) and the keyboard wouldn't work there either. However, the mouse did work on both computers.I thought maybe the batteries were dead in the keyboard and replaced them. No effect. The lights on the wireless base were flashing and it wouldn't synch. I replaced the mouse and keyboard with a wired set with no effect. I think I then rebooted the machine and the mouse got stuck in the upper right hand corner. The cursor would move erratically when I tried to move the mouse but would always end up in the corner. I can't get the mouse to move so I can get to the computer settings or anything. I went back to the wireless as it is now synched but the cursor is in the same pattern. I rebooted the computer in safe mode with no improvement. This just happened in the middle of using my slide-to-digital copier which I've been using for hundreds of slides with no problems like this. Now both computers are messed up by either keyboard and mouse. Whatever happened affects both the internet and non-internet machines alike. Help!!

A:Cursor stuck in upper right corner

Update: When I connected the mouse and keyboard directly into the computer they worked OK. So I guess there must be something wrong with the A/B switch?

I'm having a problem where the mouse cursor jumps to the left and usually gets stuck in either the upper-left or lower-left corner of the screen (most often lower-left). This usually happens one to three times a day. Sometimes it happens soon after a reboot, but at other times I can use the computer normally for several hours or a full day without the problem showing up. The only way to get it working properly again is to reboot.

While the cursor is trapped in the corner, if I attempt to move it, it moves erratically to the right (but never up or down) and immediately jumps back to the left. While I'm attempting to move the cursor, context menus open, and if there's a file or shortcut near the corner to the right of the stuck cursor, it may get activated.

Sometimes, the cursor just jumps to the left but remains functional. I also occasionally get context menus spuriously appearing while moving the mouse as if I had right clicked something.

I've removed and replaced the drivers for the mouse and the display. In the case of the mouse, I also replaced i8042prt.sys and mouclass.sys with copies from another machine running the same version of XP. All drivers are the latest versions available. I also tried using the mouse as if it were a MS mouse with none of the Kensington drivers and software installed using only the basic mouse drivers supplied with XP. The mouse is connected via the PS/2 port. I ordered an adapter so I can try it on a USB port, but I have... Read more

Hi @saabrina, Welcome to HP Forums! I have read your post and wanted to help. I understand that the cursor is stuck on the top left corner. Did you use the touch pad or an external mouse? Was the screen a black screen? Or the laptop could start up normally, but when you used an application, the cursor could not move on the screen? Also, please provide the prodcut number of your laptop.HP Notebook PCs - How Do I Find My Model Number, Serial Number or Product Number? Looking forward to your reply!

Hi all,
I'm running a Dell Inspiron 8200, XP Pro, 512 mb ram and an 37.2 gb hd with 8 gb free space on it.
Now my problem is that I can't seem to change my page file size. It is currently at 767mb even though "custom size" is selected and I have chosen 1024 mb for the initial size and maximum size.
I have tried wiping the page file entirely ("no page file" option) and have set it to 0 and 0 for initial and maximum. Of course I reboot after each change.
Nothing seems to work. Am I missing something stupidly obvious?
Hope someone can shed some light for me.
Regards, Foo

I have windows 8. I updated to 8.1. So far so good. That is until this morning. I don't know if this is in fact a Windows 8.1 issue or if anyone has ever experienced this before. I turned on the computer. I got the 'Hi' message followed by the next message of windows getting my apps updated. I then had a blank blue screen with a 'start' in the top left hand corner and an arrow in a box pointing to the next page. On the next page I had APPS on the top left hand corner and a blank box. I typed in 'desk top' even tho' that is not an 'app' as such. It took me to a blank black page with a bin in the top left hand corner. It looked liked my machine had been completely wiped. This has never happened before and I tried to Google it but the answers given did not have any correlation to what happened to me...any clues anyone?" Sorry guys, I just reread my post....I forgot to say that my computer has been functioning as normal all day .. What I did was to turn it off and back on again and it worked as normal. The thing is, I don't now trust it and want to know what? why and is it something I need to address.

Hi

A couple of weeks ago approximately I started getting an ad pop up in the bottom right corner of my desktop. It's not clickable, it doesn't direct anywhere, it just stays a few seconds then disappears. I couldn't pinpoint exactly when it started or what software or event it might have come with.

I ran Kaspersky Pure full scan but it found nothing, I also ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware full scan and it detected nothing. Then I ran Kaspersky's TDSSKiller and it only detected "Akamai" as being suspicious.

I run windows7 ultimate 64bit.

If someone could advise me and possibly help me determine if my machine if infected or not I'd be very grateful.

Thanks

Hi,

Up until a few weeks ago everything seemed fine with pc. All of a sudden I couldnt get to desktop easily. Inactive desktop. I didnt realize all I had to do was change screen in Themes. I googled and found out I should vreate new logon name. So I did and this helped BUT if I shut my pc down or restart, I have ot go inot Safe Mode first, change configuration in Msconfig and restart in Normal Mode. Otherwise I have the same problem.
Plus eveything freezes, very long delays. So everytime I shut down I have to go to Safe Mode first. This apparently disables all my Services in Computer Management, so I have to reset them every time. If I dont go into Safe Mode first, it takes 25 minutes to get to my desktop, and when I do, I can get online and dont seem to be affected whne surfing, my start button and other menu options take 5 minutes to open, each!
McAfee reporst no problems. Spybot Search and Destroy reports clean and so does Lavasoft Adaware.
Here is my logfile from HJT. I hope someoine can figure this out. Thank you in advance.
Note: I installed XDrive Desktop AFTER the problem.

Hi, every now and then in Windows 8, an application disappears into the top left hand corner of the screen when they maximise back from being minimised to the bottom task bar. There appears to be no way to recover the application, even if I stop it in task manager and start it again. If I click on the icon in the bottom task bar, the application just zooms up into the corner, and then when I click it again, it zooms down to the task bar. Yes I do have a second screen, but it's set to duplicate the first. The only thing I can do is restart my PC. Very frustrating when you have stuff you want to save, etc.

Hi all, yesterday right above where the time is on my desk top is a partial page like what you get when you try to open an internet page and you get the message "This program cannot be displayed" when a page on the internet is not opening properly. I then did a system restore to a couple days previously. When windows started to come back up it said one of my disks needed scanning and I let it scan. Then when windows came back I had a message that the restore could not be done properly. The problem was still there so I decided to undo the restore. This time I had a message that my hard disk had a problem and windows was attempting to repair. It finally restarted and everything seemed to be ok + the partial page was gone.I put my computer to sleep last night and this morning everything seemed ok. Then my Avira Free antivirus popped up asking if I would vote on the new upgrade or something and i clicked yes. Then the partial page was there again after that. Thinking back that is exactly what happened yesterday. I just ran Malwarebytes and it reported everything ok.I just finished a scan with Avira and I have attached the log. It said no virus but 1 hidden object found.I haven't restarted yet because I wanted to post this first in case i have a problem restarting.I would appreciate any help please.

Today, for the first time, when I started my computer, the icons on the desktop (I use the old-style desktop) had shifted such that there was nothing in the top left corner. And I cannot drag anything up there anymore - there's this blank spot where I always used to keep my "My Documents" user profile folder. I turned off the option to be able to point up there and switch apps, and it didn't help. I have googled like mad and can't find anyone reporting this weird issue. Has it happened to anybody else?

Ok so there's a really old thread about this already. But it didn't solve my problem. When I boot vista, a little white square appears in the upper left corner. It's not my wallpaper. On the old thread they have resolved the problem as being an ATI GPU Driver problem, and the update fixed it. But here's my problem, I don't have an ATI GPU.

When I right click the little white sqaure I can open up its properties, and in the properties it has a name of some website. Shortly after I even read it a "close program" window comes up. I click on close and the sqaure dissapears until the next time I boot.

Leaving the white square on just messes with whatever programs Im running. For example: If im watching a movie in full-screen, it will randomly just exit out of full screen. It doesnt do that once the white sqaure is off.

Well thanx for hearing out my problem, any help would be great.

Hello. I have a Yahoo! webpage stuck on my desktop. It takes up about 3/4 of the page and it cannot be moved or deleted. There is no browser bar and no "x" to close out the page. I've checked my display settings under the web tab but that didn't do anything. Any suggestions would be helpful!

I have the feeling this would have happened in Vista too: After messing around some with sharing settings (the end describes how) everything appears to be working fine, except that the icon of any files on my desktop now get a tiny lock in their lower-left corner. I rarely save and never launch anything from my desktop but you can understand why it would be a little unsettling. To your knowledge, why is this occurring, and what can I do to turn it off? What I was doing: I accidentally changed the icon to my "links" special folder and could not find it again in its default icons palate. To restore it I granted the Guest account access to my user folder when I attempted to enter it from there, and replaced my original links folder with a copy of Guest's (I did this from Guest because I didn't want some kind of dependence conflict while the original links folder was being deleted). There were serious problems when I tried to finally remove Guest's permission from Guest, but was later successful by trying again from my user account. Thanks a lot!Dave

I often connect via RDP to my desktop. The problem now is that there is a set of redirected drives from my laptop that I normally use to connect. I cannot get rid of them and they are slowing access to "My Computer" to a crawl. I have tried disabling the drive redirection on the laptop and reconnected but they still persist. I tried deleted them from the registry, but it only deleted the names of the drives, not they just show up as "system folder".

Ok seriously WTF? I have no known snapping settings applied anywhere that I can think of?
This has been p!$$ing me off to no end! I don't have a crowded desktop, I actually like a neat minimalistic type desktop to tell the truth, however I quite frequently unzip files or copy them to desktop for a short period of time. If I find that a project or piece of work or a certain group of files are being accessed more regularly I tend to leave them at their location on my home drive and right click and symlink their folder to the desktop. I am not sure if this is best practice or not, but to me it seems logical and it sure beats the hell out of having everything dumped on the desktop like most average/mild Windows users do. Anyway that's not what I am here about, I am here about the issue that is annoying....the reason I find this so annoying is because unlike a fair amount of Windows users I still like to use Windows Gadgets. What ever, shoot me, I don't care for you opinion for why they are not good so save it.
My point is that I like to have a constant eye on resources so I have translucent sidebar (not quite as intrusive as the traditional vista one I might add) and on there is a CPU & RAM gadget, the good ol indexing gadget, sticky notes (yes vista ones - not that they get used a hell of a lot), file shreddder and small HTC style flip clock with local weather and that's it. The annoying part is that each and every single time I copy any file to desktop it ends up underneat... Read more

A:[annoyance]Any file copied to desktop snaps to top right hand corner??

I have now tried to reproduce this behavior in all possible ways I can think of but am unable to do so.

Whether Desktop context menu > View > Auto arrange icons is enabled or disabled, the shortcuts on desktop will be created starting from top left when I use both of these options:Context menu > Create Shortcut

Context Menu > Send to > Desktop

Context menu > New > Shortcut will create the shortcut where the pointer was located when context menu was opened if Auto arrange is disabled, top left if enabled.
Right click a file > Drag & Drop to desktop creates the shortcut where the pointer is released ("dropped") when Auto arrange is disabled, top left if enabled.

I am totally unable to find a way to get shortcuts automatically created at right.

Are you using some third party desktop replacement or other tools which might change the Windows default behavior?

I have this laptop for about five months.

At first everything was working fine. But suddenly a problem appeared with the loading of the screen battery, no matter how long I charge it, it stays stuck at 80 percent. So I can only get 40% overall battery now...

Since one of the main reasons I bought this laptop was its long battery life, this is a big problem for me...

If anyone could suggest any fixes for this, it would be much appreciated!

I have found myself in a rather unusual situation here. I have a good, working laptop and a good, working SSD. They just hate each other.

I have a HP Mini 210-1000. Yesterday I replaced the stock HDD(Seagate Momentus 320GB) of this laptop with a SSD(Corsair Nova 60GB) and replaced the 1GB RAM with a 2 GB DDR2 RAM.

Now I started installing a 32bit Windows 7 Ultimate from a pen drive. It went smoothly. It restarted a few times. Finally got stuck on "Setup is preparing your computer for first use" screen. Stayed there for an hour and then I shut it down.

Then I tried installing 64 bit ultimate, 32 and 64 bit home basic with same results.

Then I updated the bios to the latest version.

I popped in a regular hdd with windows on it and it booted up fine.

Popped in a different samsung ssd with windows on it and it booted up fine.

I ran the setup in repair mode several times but to no avail.

Then I put the said Corsair SSD in a different laptop. It booted fine. I created user accounts and stuff and tried putting it back in the Mini. That didnt work either. I got the windows animation followed by a blank screen with a mouse pointer in the center. Nothing else.

It's midnight here and I am at my wit's end here.
Can anyone help?

A:I am stuck in installing win7 on HP Mini, weird SSD problem.

Why are you trying to install a bunch of different versions of Win7, when they are all the exact same OS's with some expensive features that can be unlocked? Which version do you own, which is printed on the COA sticker on bottom of laptop? That's the one you need.

Where did you get the ISO file and how it is it burned to disk? Refer to step 1 in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 for how to confirm and correctly burn the media.

Then work through the steps to Windows 7 Installation Failure - Overcome. Any chance it has an EFI BIOS?

You hover over the "Show desktop" object in the bottom right corner and it temporary displays the desktop with an affect simulating looking through glass.

This effect seems locked inside of my skinned objects even after a reboot or by changing themes. Where objects should be solid and gradient, they have this effect over them. I highlighted the most obvious examples in the included attachment.

Any ideas?

A:[SOLVED] Show desktop 'glass effect' stuck in all themes

It honestly looks normal to me.

You can adjust the transparency of this, perhaps you did that when making a theme?

OK my little brother was dumb enough to click on what looked like a cancel button on this ad that popped up that said "WARNING SPWARE DETECTED ON YOUR COMPUTER" and then it installed many things and basically screwed up my comp. I think it installed stuff like internet optimizer and wintools. Before I couldnt delete wintools and this TBPS thing from my startup but now i could by uninstalling them. The desktop background was just a blue screen with a black box in the middle that said the same things it said on the ad. After I scanned with spybot and trend micro I managed to clean up my computer a little bit. The taskmanager wasnt working before but now I fixed it but i now have a black desktop background on my computer. When i open the display properties and go to desktop, i cant click on the background box at all so i cant change my background. Also there was this thing that trend micro couldnt delete called 'thun32.dll' because it was still in use. Everything seems to be working ok (i think) besides the fact my desktop is a black screen i cant change. I may be a little vague with my problem so please bear with my nub explaining.

hi,

Ok, this is a strange one... I was working when my system seemed to go a bit crazy, bunch of windows opened up and told me that my virus protection was not working etc.. I closed them all and ran a quick scan with Symtec to see if I had somehow picked up a virus. Decided to reboot. When I restarted the computer I had this strange circle going on. It goes thru a normal bootup, and when it is loading the tray, it starts going in a circle. Starts loading up programs and then restarts and then restarts etc. Most of the time, after 3 or 4 times it ends with just the wall paper visable. Now, at this point the computer seems ok, I can run most any program by starting them in Task Manager ( applications, new task etc...). In fact that is how I signed up for this forum and wrote the note. BUT I cannot get the desktop back. The only way is to run Windows Explorer, via task manager, then you get it back, but it does the circle thing continously. IF you can get a program started during the part of the circle where icons etc are visable, then it will run. SO, I tried doing a restore, went back one day and ran the restore. Seemed to run normally. BUT the symptoms are the same ( now it was close to midnight, so I should have gone back farther). NOW, when I tried to go and do another restore, to go back farther, the restore program runs normally, except it will not let me choose a day. Shows many possible days and the help runs etc.. the buttons "push" but nothing happens.

Now, I understand that there is a strong likelihood this can't be done Ė firing .exe or .bat files from within an html page is obviously something that is typically frowned-upon, and for good reason (viruses and other malware would love this kind of functionality). That said, Iím trying to find a solution to a problemÖ

Iíve created a webpage for my companyís intranet which displays the status (i.e. in-use/not-in-use) of four server PCs which staff members can log onto remotely should they need a little more oomph than their desktop machines can provide.

Iíve now been asked to include a link/button on the page to allow users to directly remote log onto servers which are not in-use from the ďserver-statusĒ web page. It seems a little lazy to me as itís really not that hard to click START and type mstsc, but who am I to complain?

Iíve therefore been trying to get my html code to launch C:\WINDOWS\system32\mstsc.exe upon the click of a button, but having searched the web, Iíve not managed to find anything that works. (I did find lots of references to some javascript code which purportedly does this, but it didnít seem to work for me.)

Iíve also tried creating a .bat file which launches mstsc Ė double-clicking on the file itself fires-up the remote desktop client nicely, but I cannot get it to launch from my webpage Ė understandably IE appears just as jittery about launching .bat files as it is launching .exe files!

As mentioned earlier, I suspect that thi... Read more

A:Solved: Launch remote desktop from intranet page

I've come-up with a fix - simply included a link that takes the user to a network folder containing batch files that automatically connect to the relevant server PC when you double-click on them.

I can only access my main computer running windows 7 64 bit in safe mode + networking - normal access gets stuck on welcome screen after entering password just prior to loading desktop. In safe mode looking at icon notification (show hidden icons) I saw windows update stating 'is downloading updates (71% complete) (whatever I have done 71% remains constant) running windows update troubleshooter finds problems I get two lines of results both saying 'Repair Windows update components Not fixed. I Have tried previous good configuration, system restore, (to 2 days ago prior to a windows update installation) and disabling windows update service. none of these have made any difference still stuck on welcome screen if I do normal start up. Also nothing happens when I try to run windows update from Start and All Programs, no error message just nothing I've run out of ideas please help.

A:Solved: stuck windows welcome page. Windows update problem?

Seems fixed - not sure what the root cause was - but in case someone finds themselves in a similar position, this is what worked for me. Plugged in a wired keyboard and mouse booted into safe mode, disabled all services apart from microsoft and intel ones. Stopped all programs loading on startup including anti-virus. I then restarted and booted as normal (ie not safe mode) I could now run windows update, so I did. Had a little trouble restarting the anti virus service but did a repair from the add/remove program in control panel followed by an update. Enabled all the services and programs I had stopped restarted and everything now seems ok. Not yet checked with the windows update troubleshooter not sure if I want to do that or not.........

I have an iMac ALU 8,1 from 2007

And my problem is that I am about to buy a cable to connect a secondary monitor, and I do not know wich one I need.
I don't know wich port I have and I can't really tell the difference.
I searched the net a bit but couldn't seem to find this info.

I looked at the tech specs of the new iMacs on apple.com and they have Mini DisplayPort, but that's the new revision.
What about mine and how do I tell the difference?

Also, where can I get theese kind of cables really cheap? b/c it's freakin expensive from apple.

I have always had a facilty sign above clock on bottom right corner which enabled me to change/view the clarity/size of page details from 100% to 150% to 200% etc. This has suddenly disappeared and I do not know why??? Also at the same time my desk top icons were always displayed on a white background until 2 days ago when this changed unannounced to black and then the next day this had now become blue!!!!

I have a hp mini 110-3000 running winxp. After google update on 2/5/15 browser starting freezing and when I updated java it said a file using java needed to be closed first (file listed; iqs.exe which internet search said was worm but avg didn't find) Virus program up to date, ran full scan, tried running disk clean up, it said windows restore and Roxio data recovery were both running and to stop Roxio which I did since I never installed it. Browser still freezing up so tried using windows restore to restore it back to a restore point two weeks back to resolve the malware problem as advised on help site. I clicked the restore date, computer screen said was backing up files, shut down, then looked like it was restarting but after winxp black screen it flashed a blue error screen and went to a black startup options screen. Have tried every option and they all come right back to the startup options screen. Tried F8 and ran the primary hard drive self test both quick and full passed 100%. Hard disk passed SMART passed start-up test. Memory test passed 100%. Everything I try just stops at the startup screen. I don't have any disks as the computer was purchased at a pawn shop a couple years ago. Factory restore is not an option unless I can recover my data first. How can I undo the restore process that caused this since even restore and last good configuration looped back to the black options page? If I create a boot usb drive to start it would that cause more problems?

A:hp mini, winxp, tried using win restore, it stopped at startup options black page

Something has gone wrong with the restore process. You'll need a Windows XP installation CD to repair the process.

I built this computer a little over a year ago so i dunno why this is happening now...

When i open counter-strike and start playing, things seem fine, but then after 10 - 20 minutes of playing the game just freezes. Sometimes i get a BSOD, but sometimes i can just alt+F4 out and restart the game.

I almost always get a page fault in non-paged area and it gives me n4_disp.dll

Ive read the sticky and ran memtest+
I couldnt get past 70% after running the test twice for some reason...

here are 2 screenshots:

i have a 400W FSP PSU...

I'd like to build one of these, small enough to fit in a small-ish suitcase. I want a gaming machine, so I'd like it to be able to have these specs: A quad-core cpu, up to 4 GB memory, a 1 GB PCI-E video card, at least a 500 watt power supply, dvd player, 500 GB hard drive.

Anyone with any experience with something like this? I've built several of my own desktops, but never a mini, so this is new to me.

Thanks,
Harold

I found the "GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard" on Newegg, it has excellent reviews and seems to have what I need. I've found some excellent mini-cases, but the largest ps is 350 watts. Is this a regular-sized ps, so I could just put in my own 500 watt?

ok Here's the system info and minidump i think you requested. Excellent tip by the way with the "send to zipped folder" advice. i have tried to solve this problem for a couple weeks always thinking it was a missing or outdated driver. it's suggested that i need a new graphics card but i don't do any online gaming and rarely watch movies on my VAIO. The screen looks awesome and the computer runs great except for this problem.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP
We could also use some system information, which you can get easily by running msinfo32.
To do that go to start>run>type msinfo32>enter

When it is finished running go to file>save>name it and upload to us here.
You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).

A:Laptop 1545 won't start up past the Dell welcome page- Black screen with "_" blinking in top Left corner F8 won't work at all to restore or safe mode.

Hi Emilie2011,
Welcome to the Community, it could be an issue with the harddrive. I suggest you can start by running the Hardware diagnostics.
To run diagnostics press and hold down the "Fn" key (on the lower left hand bottom of the keyboard) and turn on the system,it should ideally bring up screen showing Pre-Boot System Assessment.
Another way to run the diagnostics go to F12 screen, scroll down using the "up" and "down" arrow key, choose diagnostics and press Enter.
If the diagnostics shows any error code/message please post it back.
Since your system is getting stuck on black screen with blinking cursor, you can also try to release flea power.
To release flea power disconnect the charger and remove the battery, press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds, reconnect the battery and charger.Turn on the system and see if it boots to Windows.
Hope this helps,
Thank You
Roshan.

After a few hours with it, though I am still setting it up... I don't see what ALL the hate is about. Some hate, sure... but it is certainly not as bad as Vista was since its actually a bit faster than Win 7 and can use Win 7 drivers so hardware compatibility isn't that big a deal. The hate is really all about the UI and of course the writing on the wall about where the OS is going.

The main problem I see is that it is really 2 OSes cobbled into one. And MS did not do a good job explaining the differences.

The start menu is replaced by the tiles interface and Windows RT OS UI (ie. the tablet OS, ie. the Xbox360 UI)

However there is a desktop tile. Hit that and you are basically back in Win7 OS land, minus the start menu. In its place is an icon that takes you back to tiles. You can right click it and get a very handy menu though. I think you can even default Win8 to logging right into the desktop tile somehow so you never have to see the tiles if you don't want to. If anyone knows how to do this, I would be glad to know.

The other big stumbling block is understanding the difference between Apps (capital A apps) and desktop applications aka legacy apps.

Starting with the desktop, its the same Win7 desktop we all know and love. It is traditional multitasking and multi-threaded and does its thing with desktop programs, services, steams games, etc. but there are also capital A Apps. I think of them like the old widgets. They also run and you can ... Read more

A:My Mini Win 8 Review as a desktop user

Rich, ( are you a drummer? )

The issue that thinking people have is not to do with the UI itself.

It is more about the direction MS is moving with win8 - taking away control and choice from the user and pushing them way MS wants them to go.

To someone who only clicks/jabs at the screen and does basic things like browsing, emailing, going on twitbook, etc - they won't notice.

Therefore it is easy for MS to lead them where MS wants them to go - and that is not a good place.

I have a very small Asus desktop PC that only uses about 30 watts of electricity. It's supply voltage is 24VDC which it receives from a 24VDC power supply on the piece of equipment it is installed in. I want to add a battery to it so that when this machine is shutdown and power is removed abruptly from the PC it can shutdown gently. I am having no luck finding an off the shelf UPS so I was hoping to add a battery pack (LIKE THIS: http://www.bixmart.com/BiXPower-BP160--19V-12V-Rechargeable-Battery-Power-Bank-Pack_p_109.html) and trick the PC into thinking its a laptop. Hello. I have an HP Stream Mini Desktop 200-010 that will not power on again after it turned itself off while it was idle. No power light, no fan movement, no beep codes. Things I already tried: 1. I replaced the original AC power adapter with a new one. It still does not power on so we can probably rule out a defective AC adapter brick and cable. 2. Held down the power button with the AC cable and other cables unplugged from the computer to discharge the power as stated on the HP support page. It did not fix it. 3. Opened the computer up and checked all the cables inside. This is not quite like a traditional desktop PC, so the only cables I saw in there were to connect the WLAN/Bluetooth card to the antenna on the top and a small cable for the speaker for beep codes. 4. Tried 3different power outlets around the house so a faulty power outlet shouldn't be the case. Is there any other troubleshooting I can try to fix this problem? It is already outside of the 1 year warranty. Normally I would know what to do to fix a problem if it could actually power on but I feel so helpless when it can't even power on to give me beep codes or anything to work with. Thank you in advance!

....well kind of. I've been looking through threads to see if I can come up with an answer to my question but no luck. I'll try as best I can to describe what's happening to me.

Ok, using IE7 in Vista and I generally use Google. Since december 2008 certain random websites will not load at all. Sometimes I get a new tab and a blank page. Sometimes I get an Internet Connection message that says I have lost my connection, but this is not the case. Most often I do a search (for a favourite subject) and get my search list; when I click on a link the page blinks and stays on the search list page. I can't go to that site. SOMETIMES even the searches don't take place and I'm just stuck at Google or Ask or whatever.

I have completed all of the usual fixes, emptying out my cache etc but this seems to make no difference. Although something that I was unable to search for just after Christmas is now accessible to me, and new inaccessible searches happen when I search for something more than once.

Also have Firefox and Safari but the same thing happens in each browser and with different search engines.

I'm stumped. And please be aware that any answers you may give will have to be tailored to my non-techie brain please, Answers for Dummies if you will

You might wanna try optimizing your browser like deleting the cookies, temp files, history, cache, restore default settings.

check add-ons and disable all unnecessary add-ons you have that might slow down or might cause some problems with IE.

Is there an HP cable to connect this monitor USB through the DP port without wasting any of the usb ports? 3) my preference would be for a portable monitor for the mini desktop that when disconnected worked as a tablet. Is there such a product in HPs portfolio? ThanksHugo Silva

Can someone confirm or deny that the EliteDesk 705 G1 desktop mini supports NVMe M.2 drives? I've seen mention that the 800 G1 systems support NVMe drives, but not the 705 series. The quickspecs for this DM says that the M.2 is PCIe X4, but not whether the BIOS supports NVMe. (The 705 G2 DM specs clearly indicate this. I wish the 705 G1 DM specs were a little clearer.)

I am desperate. really really desperate, I don't know what to do anymore

I spent a lot of money on a new gaming pc and it has been a complete nightmare from the start. I have wireless network at home so I had to het a usb wifi adapter, the Netgear N300 WiFi USB Mini Adapter.

Its setup cannot complete because it is stuck eternally at "detecting adapter"

I sought online but it's only people reporting the problem and NOBODY giving a solution. pleas pleeeaaaase somebody help.

A:Netgear N300 WiFi USB Mini Adapter stuck detecting adapter

Power down PC...while it off remove USB wifi adapter....power on PC. When PC has finished booting up, search in the uninstall programs list for any software related Netgear and uninstall it. Reboot and start the process again.

According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.

When I open Email from a few friends, I cannot see the pictures they send..there is a little red X up in the right hand corner? Othes I can see....how do I view the ones that have the X in the corner?

A:Solved: Little red x in corner of pictures

Are they pictures from websites or personal pictures?

What's your Web browser?

What's your email client? If you're using Outlook Express 6, go to Tools, Options, Security, make sure to uncheck "Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail".

Assuming you're using IE7, open the Options, under the Programs tab, make sure IE7 is set as your default browser.

If the pictures are indeed from websites, in you IE7 Options, under the Advanced tab, make sure the option to "Show pictures" is checked.

I have suddenly started getting serious memory loss problems, with the Tablet PC showing warnings and closing down before I can achieve anything. The Page file is shown stuck at zero. I have not been able to change it in the configuration menu. I enter automatic or customised min / max but after a restart the Page file is still '0'.

How do I get the configuration tool working again?

A:Page file stuck at zero

You have to press the "set" button as well as putting in the min/max values before rebooting. I've forgotten to do that a few times...

Welcome to TSG!!
Create a folder on your hard drive for Hijackthis, like My Documents\HJT
Click on this link http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe and save the file into the folder you have created.
Unzip the file to the folder.
Scan your machine, then click on Save Log.

Post a copy back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.

Hi,

> Is it possible to download the recovery CD from somewhere or does any one have any other ideas?

Unfortunately, there is no link to download. You have to order it for money from Toshiba:

[Recovery disk|https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx]

Or get windows copy disk and make a custom instalaltion. All drivers and utility can be found here:

I used to (2 days ago) have www.google.com as my home page in IE.
Now, when I go to Tools/Options to change my home page - it's greyed out and keeps defaulting to MSN. I did have Symantec on my computer for anti virus but it was causing some Outlook problems so I've completely removed it.
I had Spybot on my computer (as of 20 minutes ago) but completely removed it in case it was the problem. I also have AVG (free edition) on my computer.
I'm not a techie and am not sure what to do - so frustrated.

Thanks in advance for help. This is a brand new computer and can't believe all the problems I've been having.

Hi,
I know that this discussion has been posted last year.... but I got this same problem right now :-( I think I got this installed when I downloaded a free scrabble game yesterday (6/1/13)
Whenever I open Internet Explorer, it goes to en.V9.com as the homepage , my homepage has always been Yahoo.com.
I uninstalled everything that I installed on 6/1/13 (from the Programs and Features in my Control Panel). The Homepage in the Internet Options has been change to yahoo , then it still did not work. Changed it to google---still did not work, still goes back to V9. I also disabled this from Tools>Manage add-ons.
I have McAfee with real-time scanning, which I also did a full scan yesterday and this morning, it says no threat detected (or something like that)
When I restarted my computer, it still goes back to this V9 as my homepage.

Please, please help.

Thank you so much in advance!

I've been trying to help my mother with her new HP DV9292EU laptop. She has gone through the registration process but when she gets to the HP registration screen, where she enters in her name, address, want to be on mailing list etc. page, she clicks the Next button and nothing happens.

Has anyone got a screenshot of what that page might look like? Any ideas on what the problem might be?

It is a brand new laptop.

Thanks,

Jon

A:Getting stuck at HP Registration page

My only question is, why would anyone want to "register" the purchase with HP?

It is not a compulsory step, it just gives them the opportunity to include you on a multitude of email lists trying to sell you everything.

I never register anything, it is entirely voluntary.

If the PC works OK otherwise it is more likely that the problem is with the HP website.

Well - first thing I would think is malware.

But before we go to that - what browser are you using? Have you tried another browser?
