Q: can't get wireless turned

I can not get the wireless button to turn on a IBM thinkpad R40. I have tried the fn f5 button like it says but it does not work. The ibm access button does not work either which shows how to turn it on. I can not even get on line using the lan line.

Hi Jadewoman

On the left hand side of this laptop there is a wireless switch. This will turn it back on!

See page 27 of the owner's manual including a picture of the switch.

I have a pc desktop, pc laptop, and a Macbook. ATT DSL is my IPS, and the router is a D-link DI-624 v. C, and it has the most recent firmware.

I can be on my Mac for hours, and when I turn on my desktop PC, the Mac gets kicked off the wireless network within minutes.

Is it the router?

Don't think it's the Macbook, as I have no problems at hotspots.

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-CS110D and recently just shut down my computer to let some Windows updates install. After turning my computer back on my wireless stopped working. My wireless switch is turned on and its green... its able to turn on the bluetooth but not the wireless. I've tried diagnosing the problem but my laptop just says that the wireless is not turned on.

I've looked around online and it seems like there's a problem with the updates. I've tried the suggestion here:

http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-28820-wireless-switch-problem

where it says to delete the third party LAN in the registry but I do not see any third party (or I just don't know what they look like)

Another suggestion I found was a system recovery but I'm iffy to do a full system recovery.. does anybody have any detailed instructions to just recover my wireless adaptor driver or any other suggestions?

Thanks.

I have a problem with two of my personal laptops, but not mine or my husband's work laptops. I have a Dell laptop and he has a Toshiba. Mine has Windows XP and his has Vista. So when we are trying to connect to the wireless router sometimes on my computer the internet says wireless turned off, turn back on to connect. But it's not off, at least I didn't turn it off and I can't turn it back on. I just have to sit there for like 15 minutes and hope it turns back on. For his Toshiba we just have to plug it in to the router directly because it never turns back on by itself.
Any ideas? Maybe an update I missed?

A:Wireless Says Turned Off, But it's Not

When the connection says it is in the wrong state, have you tried toggling it on and off to see if it will correct itself?

I have a dell laptop w XP that was having wireless connection trouble - it would connect to the neighbors wireless but not ours ( was ok the previous week) Tried to get help from AT & T and was instructed to turn off the Intel Proset wireless because it could be conflicting with the Wireless Zero configuration. Now I have no wireless at all since it won't turn back on with fn+f2 which is what was instructed to use to turn it off. Help! Daughter needs desperately for an online class.

A:Wireless got turned off

not sure about dell as loads of options but try to get into bios usually press delete button repeatedly on start up, but you should get flash ups on your screen saying someting like press f10 to enter bios, anyhow once in bios check the internal wirless adapter in turned on, if it is re boot, try turning windows wirless config off, start run, type services.msc scroll down to wirless config and doulble click to disable it, try downloading aprograme called bet stumbler and use that if possible, you may need to download it to another comp save installer and transfer it to dell on a usb stick for example

ive got a toshiba satellite p755-s5320 windows 7 home premium 64 bit. laptop has ran fine for a while and then out of nowhere i cant use my wifi anymore. i dont know if someone deleted some drivers or other software maybe while i was at work..no clue. normally i would boot up and connect to the internet automatically but now it says "not connected. no connections are available" btw all the other tech in the house is working and connecting fine. my xbox, phone, and other laptops all connect fine so i have internet i just cant connect to it from my toshiba. windows network diagnostics says the problem found is "Wireless capability is turned off". my fn keys i dont believe are working because they wont turn on my wifi switch and the hot key thats lit which is supposed to toggle my wifi switch isnt working either. if i touch the hotkey it just flashes slow one time but nothing happens. actually there for a little while when i would touch my wifi hotkey to try to turn on my wifi it would launch "windows media player" lol. i did a system restore and set my laptop to back before it messed up and that didnt fix it. im not very tech savy but i think somebody deleted some software maybe some drivers or somehow reassigned my keys on my keyboard and hot keys. but either way if im missing software i dont know how to check and i cant reinstall windows because i dont have the disc anymore. also i cant still connect to the internet... I am having issues with my wireless on my Asus laptop with Windows 7. About half a month ago, I was trying to help a friend with his internet problems, and was going through the steps myself. I instructed him to disabled, then reenable the wireless adapter in the network and sharing center. I did so myself, and noticed my wireless did not work after that. I ran diagnostics for it, and it told me that my wireless switch is turned off, which I checked and it is turned on. I tried switching it off then on again, but it still didn't work. I then did a system restore to get it to work again (which it did). Then, this morning, I was having trouble connecting to the internet, so, thinking it wouldn't do it again, I disabled and reenabled the wireless adapter, and now its doing the same thing. I tried doing a system restore, but it comes up with an error about the memory and cancels it. I would like to fix the wireless problem without having to do a system restore anyway. Please help.
Thanks, GPolice

A:Wireless Capability is Turned Off

Nevermind, I fixed it. What I did was disallowed Windows to disable the adapter for powersaving, and I uninstalled the driver. I restarted it and let it install the driver and it worked.

I've picked up some piece of malware I believe that has turned off my wireless adapter. The physical switch is turned on and Fn+f2 does not work to get it turned on. I have scanned with: Malwarebytes, Avast Antivirus, Spybot, and was running Online Armor firewall a the time of infection. Spybot did find several and all were removed. I was downloading things I should not have, and I know better. It is a fairly recent install of windows. I have release and renewed IP and flushed the DNS. Ethernet LAN connection had worked previous, now it is doing exactly what the wireless is. Wireless drivers are up to date. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello, a few months ago my laptop started randomly turning off its capability, however last week it turned off completely. It occasionally turns but not for too long. The wifi button does nothing, no matter how much or how I press it, it stays orange. At the mobility center the function to turn on wifi is greyed out. I tried checking BIOS, everything is fine there, I tried checking WLAN AutoConfig at services.msc, everything is fine, and ofcourse I tried different drivers and stuff to no help. The interesting thing is that I had mini usb wireless adapter and it made wifi work, however I accidentally broke it and am unable to buy a new one at the moment.
P.S. I should also mention that I tried to lower the roaming sensitivity, make it that the laptop does not turn off the adapter on power saving mode, checked whether radio is enabled, troubleshoot the problem as admin, with no help. The driver is Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter. I pretty much tried everything out that I can find but nothing helped, hopefully someone will be able to help me. The laptop is HP ProBook 4540s. If you need more info I can gladly provide it.

Ok on my Dell D530 Laptop I got home last night to find my laptop I use for work has no interner connection.

1. Checked my other laptop- It has a connection (not the Router or service its self)
2. Restarted Cable Modem and Router, just in case.
3. Re set the NIC adapter of the D530.
4. Windows Diag was no help.
5. Did everything I could think off.
6. Back-ed everything up, and re-imaged it.

With a fresh factory. It's still saying "wireless capability is turned off". There is no physical switch to "turn on or off"

I looked in "services" and re-started things I thought were help but nothing.

Anyone have any ideas that would help. Next move is calling Dell.

Thanks, Ryan

Hello,

I'm using Lenovo Z570 laptop. (Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter)

Problem:- Can't switch on wifi. The on/off switch is grayed out. While troubleshooting, it says, " wireless capability is turned off".

Solutions Tried:- Re-installed drivers provided by lenovo's website.
Re-installed drivers by windows update.
Reset settings in Bios to default values.
Yes the physical switch is on and the indicator light is glowing.
Fn+ F5 just toggles on/off airplane mode.
Disabled the option so that power management doesn't switches off wifi to save battery.
Other numerous solutions on internet.

The wifi worked flawlessly in windows 7. I even used it as a hotspot (via cmd method).

Someone save me..... Life without wifi seems Dull. :'(

A:Wireless capability is turned off

Try doing a full uninstall of the device and driver in Device manager. Then reboot and see if Windows 8 will find the device on its own. If it does, then you should be able to go into the desktop, open device manager and see the device listed as functioning.

If you have lost your wireless connection (Wi-Fi) and pressing the wireles button on your laptop doesn't fix it, do this: Download and install HP Connection Manager. After 8 hours of screwing with this I am so happy to report my Wi-Fi has been turned back on.  The antenna button did not work.  It only turned the Bluetooth on and off.  My wireless connection had a red X on it and the troubleshooter told me straight up that my "Wireless capability is turned off", but gave me no way to turn it back on.  In Windows Mobility Center the Wireless Network clearly showed it was off, but the button to turn it on was greyed out.  I updated the BIOS and wireles drivers, but that did nothing.  Then I downloaded and installed HP Connection Manager and rebooted.  I opened up HP CM and there was a button that showed the wireless was off.  I pushed it and the wireless turned on.  That easy.  Or rather, after hours and hours of pain, it turned on.  My next step would have been to go through the BIOS to see if somehow from there the Wi-Fi had been disabled, but I did not need to go that far. Good luck people.  Hopefully this thread will save you some time.

I have a Compaq Laptop, Presario F500, and i've had it for approximately over 2 years... When i first got it of course everything worked and was fine. First and foremost, my problem is that my laptop will not register any wireless connections, and despite the wireless switch being turned on, instead of the color BLUE showing, indicating the laptop can connect wirelessly, (not a word lol) the actual color that is showing is AMBER despite my constant battles with it. Therefore, i cannot connect wirelessly to the internet. And my computer runs slow even though i've done a disk cleanup and a disk defrag. I have an external hard drive and i've taken almost everything off and put it on that, but that seemed to not do anything really. I called Microsoft to help and they knew the problem and how to fix it immediately!!! but at the end of saying all of that, they way talking about charging me $139.99.... I said < no thanks > . lol i previously had Norton Antivirus and all that good stuff. (Symantec and whatnot) but i took that off because of the subscription being expired, thinking that was part of the problem. And i installed McAfee. Idk if i should've did that or not but i did. but I'm looking for some more help and if anybody can find it in their heart to try and help me... Because i've been having this problem for over a year and have been trying to fix it myself. And i KNOW it's possible, but i just need some guidance is all... So if you k... Read more

Three weeks ago my computer was infected with the google redirect virus and Microsoft Security Essentials could not be reinstalled or opened. Virus removal programs did not manage to remove it until Microsoft support told me to first run rkill. Then they gave a series of virusscanners and fixes to be run and the computer seemed to be itself. I changed from Firefox to Chrome in the hope that browser would be saver. Unfortunately, a week ago, my computer acted strange again, this time by turning the battery loading indicator of and more inconveniently, the wireless lan. By using the on/off wireless lan button, the wireless lan did not work. I restarted in safe mode with networking and that worked. So I turned off most of the start-up processes and the wireless lan runs until the computer has been to sleep. After that only a restart helps the wireless lan to be turned on. I have run several anti-virus programs and in the beginning two trojans were found (sorry, I do not know which because I happily thought that would solve the problem) but did not bring a solution. Microsoft Security Essentials keeps on running this time so Microsoft support does not give help by email this time. I have reset the router to fabric installation but still the problem stays.

Just bought a Gateway MX6453. I have DSL at home, with a wireless modem. In order to get online, each time the laptop has been closed, I need to start Wireless Zero Configuration. Under properties, it is set for startup type=automatic.

Then I have to go to Open Network Connections, Properties, Wireless Networks, and check "use windows to configure my wireless settings". It is always unchecked when the computer is restarted.

How do I set this up so it really is automatic? On the old laptop, it connects automatically when the card is in and you turn the laptop on.

Tried one office yesterday that has a secure network, you need to type in a key each day. Even after going through all of the above, my laptop couldn't even see the network, although the laptop 2 feet away was online fine.

Is there some firewall or something resetting these settings? I thought I uninstalled all the McAffee stuff that came with the laptop, just using Windows firewall and AVGfree antivirus.

New laptop also has bluetooth, is that what is causing this issue?

Thanks!

A:New laptop, wireless needs to be turned on each time?

The wireless capability is always automatically turned off when I restart/shutdown my notebook. I'd like it to be turned on without pressing Fn+F12 everytime I turn on my notebook because I'm using external keyboard&mouse. The driver is broadcom wireless downloaded from HP, its date is January 31, 2016 This problem  won't occur on Windows 10, only Windows 7 has this problem.

OK bear with me here, I'm on this forum on behalf of a friend. his comp stats are the ones i've listed for my profile. I'm listing step by step everything that happened to the point where he is now - a seeming reset on his settings and loss of personal information stashed on the comp.

He was trying to set up a wirelness connection in a pub and tried to change network connections to create a wireless setting,
the problems started before he'd turned on his network card and actually connected.

after he'd restarted, the loading screen loaded a different backaround, all desktop settings were windows default, his personal folder was moved to the documents and settings. everything that had previously been in his personal folder was moved into doc and settings all the files were there. this is the first major change.
he'd opened the wireless options, had some options that werent part of the pub network - and didn't connect. it said limited to no connectivity. at this point he got a warning that said this isnt a safe connection and continued anyway. noticed the firewall was down at this point. he doesnt remember if he did or not leave it off. he didnt connect to any successful networks.
he then got the pub network password, and was able to connect, was on for about 15 minutes give or take, the low battery caused him to leave.
He closed the top of the monitor on the saving settings screen before it had saved fully. back at the flat, the power ligh... Read more

Hello! I got a problem that really driving me crazy!!!!!
I can't establish any wi-fi connections, despite fact that I`am in wi-fi area. Problem appear about 6 month ago, without a reason (I do not changed hardware or any other crucial software). I have Asus N53SM notebook, which have option to manually switch on/off wireless adapter. So, if it is manually turned off there is a picture of wi-fi antenna with red cross on it, but if it is turned on, but there are no available connections it shows icon of signal strength with red cross on it. So, no matter what I do and how many wi-fi connections are there, icon shows that wi-fi adapter is not turned on at all (picture of wi-fi antenna with red cross on it)!!!!!
My PC recently returned from repair service, which said that problem is in my OS and used drivers, despite fact that I tried several versions of Windows 7 (and even Windows 8), no matter which OS I use problem stays. Every time when I tried to reinstall Windows I used original driver CD which came with PC, so drivers work well, because earlier, more than a year it worked without any problem.
After all drivers are set, in device manager section "other devices" --> "Network controller" there is "!" which says that, not all drivers were installed successfully. I dunno how could it happen, if driver CD is original. It is quite possible that Windows Update could get needed updates, but I do not have access to the wi-fi and Internet. And why... Read more

A:Wireless network adapter is turned on, but PC say`s it is not

Well; at this point what i would do is go into the device manager section of the system section of the control panel and remove any wireless adapters listed in the system section. Then reboot and let windows hopefully re-detect and reinstall the adapter(s). Also, one other thing to try is to power cycle your network equipment. Unplug the power cords to both the router and modem; wait about a minute or so; then plug the modem back in first and let that fully boot; then plug the router back in and let that fully boot. Try both of these things and see what happens. If neither of these solve your issue; post back and we can take it from there.

A few months ago, I came to this forum for some troubleshooting related to BSOD's. As it turned out, they were caused by my wireless network drivers, so I updated them and the problem stopped.

However, since then, a new problem has occurred. Whenever my computer restarts, Windows seems to disable my wireless connectivity (That is it can't detect other wireless networks in range). Even after going through the troubleshooter to turn it back on, the problem still persists if I turn my computer off, and it's really annoying to have to do this every time this happens. I am assuming it has something to do with the drivers as that is when the problem started, but I can't seem to figure out how to make Windows save these settings.

My current system is a Thinkpad T400 with Windows 7 Professional x64, and my Wireless Card is an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN, with driver version 13.1.1.1. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm using an Acer Aspire 5710 laptop (see my computer specs for more information) and I had it set up nicely and it was all working fine... But I lent it to someone and now I've got it back the wireless doesn't work. I'm using the Acer eNet management and it says there are no wireless networks. I can connect to my network using the same model of laptop, so it's not that.

When I use windows to diagnose the problem it says my wireless card has been disabled and there should be a switch on the outside to enable it (which there isn't) or a function key combination (which I can't find). The wireless card is built in to the laptop.

I would be extremely grateful for any help.

Hello all,
I've used the internal wireless (1397 mini-card) for a couple of years now...All of a sudden the WIFI LED is not lit up above my keyboard....Win 7 reports no problem with the card and the driver appears to be ok...Others have told me to try the FN + F2 key to turn the wireless switch back on, but this combo doesn't change anything...In fact, on my laptop that combo controls whether the AC adapter charges the battery or not while plugged in.
I booted into my XP dual boot real quick...ON this OS the wireless is controlled by the dell application and the dell software says the wireless radio switch is disabled? Everything is enabled in the BIOS under the wireless section...It must be a different key combo to turn my wireless on/off?
I plugged in my wireless dongle from another machine and everything works great...
Any ideas?

A:Latitude E5500 Wireless Switch turned off?

Okay everyone,
I just solved my own problem....I can't believe I did not know where this switch was and what it does....As soon as I posted I found a site that has the right information for this laptop....On the E5500 the FN key has nothing to do with the wireless switch on/off.I literally burned through 50 sites with everyone saying "just hold down FN and press F2"...I don't know why everybody has the wrong info about this laptop.
There is a toggle switch on the front of the laptop(just on the underside of the keyboard plane)...It's about where your left wrist sits when you are typing on the keypad...It has a wireless Access point symbol on the switch...It looks similar to this:::::

Here is a picture from the site:::

In this diagram, the number 7 is exactly where the toggle switch is to turn wireless radio on/off. Maybe this post was a little overkill, but I was about to tear my hair out trying to figure out why my darn wireless wasn't working. I hope this helps anyone who reads it.

Happy New Year to one and all.

The problem I have is as follows.

In our household, we have 4 machines connecting wirelessly to our Belkin Modem Router until recently (couple of months).

2 machines are on Vista and have no problems whatsoever when turning on and then connecting with the router and accessing E-Mail & Internet.

The other 2 machines have a problem. When the users turn their machines off and then turn back on and try to access E-Mail and Internet they can't. So I invariably do a repair or down the router and manage to get them using the E-Mail & Internet. Things work fine then until they switch off their machines.

Both machines are running on XP Pro SP3 and both machines run fine once the connection is repaired.

Intel Dual core, 4gb memory, 320 gb HD and connecting to the router via a Belkin USB wireless adaptor
Second machine spec

The 2 machines that work great as I say are on Vista, one connecting to the router via a Belkin USB wireless adaptor and the other (Laptop) has an internal wireless card.

This is a recent situation, and I have been working with Belkin (who have been great, so please no comments there ), to try and see what the problem is.

2 days ago we changed the Preferred and Alternate DNS Server properties for the Internet Protocal (TCP/IP) (Properties, General tab), as Belkin thought that it might help stabalise the issue. H... Read more

The issue seems to be with my wifi hardware chip. Eventualy I had to take the laptop to Service Center. The guy tried everything that I did again. Finally the problem is resolved, he plugged out the wifi hardware chip, cleand its both ends a little bit using a eraser, and inserted again and voila, it got detected. He said it could be the issue of carbon lodged on chip's connecting ends. Since then I have faced same issue several times, and All I do is open my laptop, plug out WiFi chip from motherboard, clean it a little and plug it again. And It starts working like a charm.May be it is loose or I don't know what is the exact problem. But it still has a problem with Antenna, I recieve very low signal from my wifi, even I am within decent range of wifi router.

Hi everyone, I just bought a cheap simple printer for the wife and i already wish i hadn't got a HP. I am running the printer wirelessly from a d-link g604t router and need to unplug the router and turn off the printer in order to regain internet access. tried the diagnostics and it says the dns server name is wrong. contacted HP and they tell me new drivers are coming next month but i can't wait that long.... any ideas at all?????

regards KevO

A:Internet dies when wireless printer is turned on

Find the network configuration page for the printer. Change the dns to be 10.1.1.1. That your router's default address according to http://imagelibrary.gotalk.com.au/pd...SetupGuide.pdf

It should work then. Let us know how it goes.

It's probably a good idea to make sure the Bonjour service is not resident and active on any machine across your network. Follow this page to do that.

http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/...sresponderexe/

Should you require further help, please tell us the type of connection you have from your isp (cable, dsl) and how do you get internet access to your router (cable modem?, dsl modem?, lan cable connected to wall in apartment?) I would have you change the dns address of your g604t to the default address of this cable or dsl modem.

One step at a time. Either I or someone else will be able to help you fix this.

Hello All,

In the last two weeks I have been experiencing something very strange with my Windows 10 Pro. When my laptop resumes from sleep the Wireless is turned off in Windows. I don't believe it was an update because I have defer updates enabled. Unfortunately, I just noticed System Restore was turned off.

1) I have checked the power settings in Device Manager and the device is NOT checked to use power management)
2) I have updated to the latest wireless driver available.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I believe this issue has something specifically to do with Sleep because when I reboot or shutdown/power-on the Wireless is enabled and working fine. It only seems to be when Windows goes into sleep mode.

I've been having this problem off and on, sometimes it cures itself randomly for weeks at a time but its getting really bad now. Whenever my wireless card is switched on, the computer seems a bit slower, mouse doesn't move smoothly, and most annoyingly, the audio is horribly distorted and crackly. Obviously this is quite rage inducing. Wireless card has newest drivers, Windows is fully updated.

CPU usage isn't rising so I have no idea whats causing it

sounds a bit odd for a wireless card to slow down the computer....have you tried booting into safe mode with networking and see if that slows down the computer. i'm just thinking it the wireless card and somthing else is working together for this problem.

Hello all. I don't even know from where to start. If someone's able to help me, I'll be grateful.

The problem is like this: I own a Toshiba Equium L40-10U :

-Processor : Intel(r) Celeron(r) M CPU 520 @1.6 GHZ
-Memory : 1GB of RAM
-Qualcomm Atheros AR5007EG Wireless.
It came with a 32 bit Windows Vista Home Premium, and I recently updated it to a 32 bit Windows 7 Ultimate.

When I was running on Vista, the wireless kept turning on and off, without me disabling it. I thought it was a driver issue, so I updated the drivers, again, it was working fine, but the problem appeared again.
I then upgraded my operating system to 7 Ultimate, Windows Update updated my wireless driver, and it worked for a couple of hours, and while I was on the internet reading something, I saw this pop-up on my screen: "Wireless Lan OFF". Since then I cannot seem to "activate " my wireless.

Should I mention that there is no actual switch to turn the wireless on or off, is just a hotkey combination: Fn and number 8.
And now when I press that, it just gives me a popup: "Wireless Lan OFF". It doesn't matter how many times I press it , it still says that is off.

I'll attach a print screen to see exactly the pop-up message(see first attachment)

In the device manager, the wireless adapter is there and functioning properly (see second attachment)

Hello Everyone. I am trying to help my mom with DSL modem w/Wireless problem. The modem was setup by connecting it to a desktop via an ethernet cable. After the initial (basic) setup was complete, the desktop connected to the internet and worked great using the ethernet connection.

However, when I go back in the modem setup and turn on the wireless everything stops working. I no longer have internet connection on the desktop and can no longer access the DSL modem setup via ethernet connecton. The wireless light on the modem is solid green, as are all the other lights, but the wireless network is not available either. The only way I can get back in is to power cycle the modem.

I have setup many wireless networks in the past with absolutely no problems but usually have separate cable/dsl modem and wireless router, never setup a combo unit. This one has me stumped. My desired setup is to connect the desktop with an ethernet cable and my laptops via wireless.

DSL Modem: Actiontec GT701-wg
DSL Provider: Qwest
Desktop OS: Win XP Media
Laptop OS: Win XP Pro

Any suggestions??? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Ive got a wireless router.
Into that router I have 2 normal LAN cables connected.
1.- LAN-cable goes to a printer
2.- LAN-cable goes to a stationary PC
In addition I have a laptop that connects "wirelessly" to the same router mentioned above.

Every time I turn the stationary PC or/and printer ON the laptop "looses" temporarily the connection to the internet.
So in short words the wireless connection interrupts each time a system connected by cable is turned ON.

The wireless interruption lasts some seconds, and then the laptop re-establishes the wireless connection automatically.
I'm wondering if it's possible to avoid these interruptions, cause their really annoying. Is this hardware related? Is there a setting that can to be changed in order fix this issue?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hi guys,

I have an acer aspire one KAV60 mini laptop, It was dropped and the LCD panel was broken. I used it with an external VGA monitor while the ebay LCD purchased arrived home. I didnt use the laptop for 1 month.

Today the LCD panel arrived, I changed it right away. But as soon I connected the flex cable LCD panel when On with a white light like if the LED Backlight was connected directly.

Laptop was turned off when this happens. If I turn the laptop On, then the LCD panel goes black (Led light turns off) HD powers on, vent powers on, power led is on, if I plug the AC adapter then charge led is on; but no Bios logo at all. Like if the BIOS operations where dead at all.

LCD was used but in good shape as quoted by the seller on ebay. Now, if the screen was in "short circuit" when purchased could this mess up the whole laptop? Could a defective LCD panel cause the motherboard to die?

Or could the motherboard die just becaus it cans, and that to be the reason why the LCD panel goes on white light? What do you think can be wrong now with my laptop?

Thanks in advance.

This time when I ran the wizard it says it detects no problems. I am sure it is the software, as it happens a lot with MS updates. Will downloading a new driver help? I was playing War of the roses earlier, and my pc decided to turn off for no reason. I thought, ok, I'll just turn it back on after dinner and continue playing. But when I pressed the on button, nothing happened. I tried a few more times and opened up my case. I unplugged the power cable then plugged it back in, and the CPU fan turned on for about a second, then went dead, and this happens everytime I unplug and replug. I'm pretty certain it's a PSU fault, but I just need someone to clarify this for me before I buy a new one. If it isn't a PSU problem then please tell me what else it could be and what I should do about it? By the way, I only built it a week ago, so my warranty is still valid, if that changes anything. Thanks in advance <3

I don't remember when this issue started, it just did one day. I bought this laptop 4 months ago and it is still under warranty.Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6560U CPU @ 2.20GHzGPU: Intel(R) Iris(TM) Graphics 540Resolution: 3840 x 2160Refresh Rate: 60 Whenever the computer display is turned off for whatever reason, it will refuse to turn back on unless I force shutdown by holding the power button. If I move the mouse or attempt to turn the display back on through other means, the display is given power (because the screen actually turns on, but is displaying essentially a color that's almost completely black, or a very, very dark grey).

I have a printer (with wireless capability) wired to desktop (Windows XP) and a wireless laptop (Windows 7). My question is, can the printer be connected wirelessly to the laptop as well as wired to the desktop, or does everything have to be wireless?
Another question: If I want to share files between the two computers, do they both have to be the same operating system? (one is Windows XP and the other is Windows 7)

A:Solved: Wireless Laptop/Wireless Desktop (via wireless adapter)/ printer

I would guess that the printer can be connected by ethernet and wireless, but I've never had one with both capabilities so I don't really know.

I once had a printer that worked OK connected to a network plus connected to another computer by USB. Even so, that may depend on the particular printer.

There may be two operating systems that cannot file share with each other but I don't know which ones that might be. Windows XP and 7 are fine sharing with each other (but not claiming that nobody has had any problems).

I recently bought a new setup, consisting of an Asus M4A87TD mobo, a Radeon HD6850 card, 4gb of DDR3 1600 RAM, and an AMD Athlon II X4 3.0ghz processor. I have everything connected correctly(at least I'm 90% sure I do), and when I turn it on, the fans all turn on but nothing happens, no display shows up or anything. Its not beeping, but my tower doesn't seem to have a PC speaker hookup, so that might have something to do with that. Any help would be appreciated.

I suppose I should also point out that I have a 750w psu

I'm quite sure all of my issues arise from a virus infection, as it has happened on 2 computers (desktop running W7 and laptop loaded with XP); they have both been exposed to the same updates recently, the only commonality between them. I first thought that my SSD on my desktop had gone bad as I had just managed to recover from a previous crash, so I tried a spare HDD I had. Neither HD will allow me to format it, I cannot reload an OS on either (I was attempting clean installs as I have no data loss issues to worry about), it keeps telling me that the disk is using RAW fs and cannot be accessed. I did manage to claim 93G from a 100G HDD and set it up as an active primary partition, but cannot convert the RAW fs back to NTFS; yes I have tried all of the command prompt tricks such as FORMAT, CONVERT, ACTIVE, and what have you with no luck at all. I have attempted booting from the install CD and doing repairs/formatting from there, again no luck. BIOS is up to date, the drives appear and show as healthy, I just cannot access or use them. Is there a means by which I can completely wipe these disks clean and start from scratch with them? All I want is the use of the drive, I am not concerned with recovering so much as a byte of data; these were used merely as system drives to load the OS on. I'm experiencing similar issues on my laptop loaded with XP, cannot format, cannot reinstall the OS, nothing. I have been Googling for 2 weeks now and all I find is ad after ad for crapware. T... If you are saying that you had to turn off WEP encryption on your wireless router in order for the DVD player to connect to the Internet, then you have a big security risk. Anyone within a few hundred feet of your location will have easy access to your wireless network. They could download things from the Internet that could get you accused of stealing copyrighted video and music or trafficking in kiddie porn. They would also have access to try to hack into any computers that may be connected to your network. FWiW, WEP protection will keep honest people off of your wireless connection and will stop a hacker who may have a casual interest in getting into it. WEP offers little protection from a hacker that wants to get in.

What is the exact model number (and any revision level) of the player?

EDIT: Shouldn't that be "break", not "brake" in your signature line?

the mouse didn't work, the graphics driver was gone, there was no sound. :hotbounce

So i managed to fix the graphics, the mouse half-works (it use to be USB but now only works in the circular ports). But i still havn't fixed the no sound business.

I have an Intel AC'97 Audio Controller - SigmaTel Codec. After trying loads of drivers named various 'AC97' & 'AC'97' but to no prevail. Standard System restore didn't do it, i check for viruses, none. I check Netstat just incase, nope.

I wondered if some annoying hacker decided to delete some windows file that regulates sound (if there is such one). And i wonder if theres a program to check it.

Either that or dust. It was bought Dec 2000, and i havn't opened it myself, but it's been opened. Might be dust since a lot of the components needed fixed all of a sudden.

Do you guys have any theories/suggestions? Thanks!

Windows firewall and malwarebytes turned on.

A:why are these turned off?

OVERKILL - You have one too many AV programs installed.

You can only use one AV at a time, get rid of Norton and just stick with AVG. Norton turns off Windows Firewall cos it takes over. Just use AVG and Windows own very good firewall.

Also this happens several times a day, its quite frequent. Whats weird it ALWAYS turns itself down to 24/100 (picture provided in the link below)

Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Back in 2003 we spent a month in Australia and New Zealand. I spent many hours creating a four CD VCD presentation of our entire trip. I have lost many of the pictures when I changed computers 4 times since then. I have 4 complete sets of 4 VCDs but when I tried to play them for my Grand Daughter the other day I got the message " Need a VCD 2.0 player and please turn on PBC to show photos. The presentation includes a musical background and my comentary on each photo. I downloaded two VCD players "X-VCD" and "Media Player Lite" I still get the same message. Can someone tell me if the PBC function is strictly hardware oriented or can this be compensated for with some software program?

I just installed Sonic MyDVD and when I opened the program it said that it noticed that DMA was turned off for the recording device it uses (my DVD RW). It said that in order for the program to run correctly that it should be turned on. I'm not sure I totally agree that not having it on will affect a recording, but just in case how would I check on that? I went to hardware and device manager under DVD but could find no reference to that.

One of the first things I did after installing Windows 7, was to turn the UAC completely off to stop getting those annoying messages.
I have just read in this months PCPlus magazine that you should alter the default settings in UAC and slide the thing right to the top to give yourself more protection!
I'm not sure what's best now?
Have you turned yours off?

A:UAC. Have you turned your's off?

Yep. Turned it off as soon as I got 7 installed. MSE and Windows Firewall are pretty much all you need, unless you go to some really sketchy sites.

I've recently upgraded my internet provider to BT and received a BT Home Hub 3 as the new wireless router. Previous to this I was using a wireless Belkin G + MIMO ADSL router (model number F5D9630-4).

There are places in the house where the wireless signal is very poor. Connecting to the internet using either of these routers is difficult in these spots. However, since the Belkin is now spare, I've been thinking about trying to use it as a low cost repeater (i.e. free) to extend the wireless range in the house.

There are several good articles that I've found on this site which address the connection of two routers together (e.g. John Will's article on connecting two SOHO routers is a good example), but they rely on an ethernet connection between the two routers. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a way to establish a wireless link between the two routers to extend the range of the current wireless network.

Cheers everyone, and thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if this is in the right forum. Please advise. Here is my problem. I am running XP SP3, computer specs are in my profile. A few days ago, my computer was runnnig fine except that I freeze when accessing data from large folders. (problem stated in earlier thread, still not solved) Now the whole system has turned to mud. very, very slow. Boot times, program initializing, internet, seems to be everything. I recently upgraded to a pruchased version of Zone Alarm, (had to uninstall my AVG virus scan) and just befor had installed a newer version of an avanquest program, 'Fix-it utilities 9' which has a antivirus that I inadverdantly initialized although that program has some issues and I cant use it at all. I have attempted a restore from a earlier point when everything was fine but saw no improvement. I did a scan with my Zone Alarm product , found some old virus on my backup drive, removed them, still no help. scanned with Panda, (took almost 24 hours to scan with only some cookies found. Now I try to keep updated with microsoft but I cant install 'Framework. net .3' and have been trying for months but alas microsoft is no help. I will attach a HJT log if it helps. If someone has time I would greatly appreciate the help. I dont know where else to turn and you guys have always been so good with my problems. Here I am again! Thanks again in advance!

Sure. Reset the router to factory defaults, usually by holding down the reset for 10 seconds or more with power on. This will return it to being a normal router, and a wired computer will be able to connect to it again.

Recently whenever I turn my computer on in the morning (I always turn it off before bed), the power button flashes orange like it's in sleep mode or something. I can hear the hard drive working, almost as if it's turning on, but it just flashes orange for a while. I've never left it for all that long to see if it would go on by itself, usually if I hold down the button for a couple of seconds, then let go and repeat for a bit, the light starts flickering on then off quick, then does the normal longer flash, and then after a bit it turns on normally.
I have some dumb surge protector that turns on/off the other stuff plugged into it when the computer is turned on/off, the only thing I have plugged into that section is the printer (There's a couple of plugs that it always keeps on that I have other stuff plugged into), and one of the first times it happened, it turned on normally after the printer finished turning on (the surge protector still starts powering it when the computer is doing the flash thing), so I thought that might be messing it up, but I tried unplugging the printer and turning the computer on and it still did that. Now it continues flashing even after the printer finishes turning on. I don't know if it was just a coincidence the first time or what.

I went to the power options and checked to see if it was configured to hibernate when the button is pressed, but it was set to turn off, like it always has been. Just out of curiosity I set i... Read more

The first job is to disconnect completely that surge protector
also disconnect all external devices from the computer apart from monitor, keyboard and mouse - if not a laptop
You have not provided any details of the computer, so of course this aspect is guesswork
So you now have the computer connected direct to an AC supply

Please help me. When I turned on my pc a message appeared telling me that my computer is at risk because my anti virus is turned off. When I opened the icon for windows security center I found out that my anti virus is off. How do I turn on my anti virus? I'm using bit defender but now it is turned off so I have no active anti virus. When I clicked recommendations, it said to turn on my antivirus or find another antivirus. When I clicked ok, nothing happened it just remained turned off. How can I turn this on? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:antivirus turned off

Every AV program that I have seen...has a control console that can be activated by clicking on the program itself from Start/Programs.

Have you tried that?

The Windows Security Center does not control the initialization of the AV program, as I recall (I seldom visit the Security Center for anything). It only reflects the current status of the program.
