How to stop Firefox changing date on Bookmarks.html

Q: How to stop Firefox changing date on Bookmarks.html

Firefox changes the date on Bookmarks.html every time it is run, even when changes aren't made to the bookmarks file. I can simply open Firefox and then immediately close it without using it at all and the date on the Bookmarks file is changed.

Is there a way to stop this and have the time stamp changed only when the file is modfified?

I maintain part of a web site that has a monthly calendar on it. At the moment I have it set up in a frame, so that when you go to it you see a navigation bar (with the months of the year in it) on the left, and an instruction page (click on the month you want to see) in the target (main) frame.
What I'd like to do is have it come up with the current month in the target frame, and not have to use the instruction page.
I know I can do it manually by changing the HTML coding that calls the page, but I'd like to do it automatically. Is there some HTML/Java/Java Script coding that can read the date & change my code accordingly?

I'm assuming that there's a clock somewhere that the code can read & extract the month from that result (I'll need help on that too)

The URL is http://www.afgec220.org/Frame.html

Netscape is changing the time stamp on its bookmarks file every time Netscape is run, even when the user makes no changes to the bookmarks. To be clear, no changes are made to the bookmarks file, yet the time stamp is always equal to the exact time Netscape was last closed.

Is there a way to get Netscape to leave as is the time stamp on its bookmarks file when no changes are made by the user?

I have a tab delimited .txt file. One of the fields has 5-2056 in it. When I open the file in Excel, it gets changed to May-56. How can I stop this? I can't edit the data, and I can't format the cell (it's not an actual cell/spreadsheet).

A:Solved: Excel, stop changing to date

If you want the 5-2056 kept as is, then do the following.
Select all the cells with data in
Click on Data, Text to Columns
Delimited, NEXT
Select the delimiters you want to apply e.g.TABS, NEXT
The 5-2056 should now be shown in its own columnand the heading should say general. If so just click on Finish
It should now be in its own columns and the 5-2056 will appear just as that.

hope that works foryou.

Come back if you need more clarity.

Import/export bookmarks, cant get my HTML saved bookmarks back into Chrome!!!!!

I used to use Internet explorer, then Firefox, and now Chrome as my default browser.

I had to do a updated computer rebuild, and before doing so, i saved my bookmarks as a HTML file, on an external hard drive. After I set up the new computer, and dragged this HTML file of my (over 1200 bookmarks) onto my new desktop.

I went to BOOKMARKS,BOOKMARK MANAGER, THEN "IMPORT FROM ANOTHER BROWSER",abut all the only choices are for, ANOTHER BROWSER, NOT from any file on the computer.

I first tried to import this file into internet Explorer, but that interface seems to also have changed, and it seems whenever I click on the "IE' logo on the task bar, something like YAHOO, or MSN, pops up instead......what happened to the original internet explorer and all of its tools? (YES, I can see the tools or setting, or Internet options on the right of each of these sites, but HOW CAN I GET MY FAV BOOKMARKS HTML FILE BACK INTO CHROME AGAIN???????????? Any Help?

Hi I'm kind of confused,
Chrome is much like but not exactly the same as Google toolbar,
Simply signing in would make Google or Chrome bookmarks available,
That is what Google does,
It stores everything on it's servers,
So the basic question is are you signed into Chrome ?
Cheers.

I am a PC user. I am new to Windows Vista this year and was opening some old documents that I had transfered onto my new laptop when I noticed that every time I open a document, the "date modified" automatically updates and changes the file properties. I do not want this to occur. Is there any way I can change this setting? I only want the date modified to change when I actually make a modification to the document. Thank you.

A:How to stop "date modified" from automatically changing

What program do you use to open the documents?
I don't think anything in Vista or word will do this automatically, unless you do indeed modify the doc.
Have you perhaps been using one of the numerous "Tuning" programs?

Help! I am using a Seagate Central 4TB NAS drive attached to my router via Ethernet. It has been working fine so far for all kinds of file activities. But whenever I modify a file in one of its folders, the creation date for the file also updates and is
changed to the same time as the new modified date.
Maybe relevant details:
I can move/copy folders to the drive and they maintain their created dates.
It happens for both a private user share on the NAS and for the Public share on it.
It happens for at least image files and text files.
I am able to edit files across two computers on the network just fine, the create date stays the same.
This happens from a new Windows 10 machine and Vista machine both.
I notice sometimes the date created seems to stay same until I access the file the next time.
I can't update the NAS firmware because of error.

If it could be a permissions problem, I have been unable to change it from:
Everyone: Special Permissions only
nobody (Unix Group\nobody): Special Permissions only
nogroup (Unix Group\nogroup): Special Permissions only
(Those were there automatically, they are not something I manually put there. I get "Access is denied" whenever try to add permissions or change ownership.)

I have Googled many phrases of this problem far and wide and come up with nothing. I really need to save the original create date because that's how I sort them in programs like Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa. Does anyone know what's goin... Read more

Hey everyone. Why is Firefox 3.6.10 removing the bookmarks from my bookmarks toolbar whenever I add the bookmark to a folder under the bookmarks menu? Note: I am not moving them, I am going to the website and bookmarking them all over again so as to put them in a folder. However, when I do this, the bookmark gets removed from the toolbar and put in the folder. I really don't like this. I want to be able to have my bookmarks in two different places: both on the toolbar and in the folder.

A:Why does Firefox remove the bookmarks from my bookmarks toolbar?

Probably a Firefox feature to help you avoid duplicates.

After you have it once just copy it to where you want it. I just tested this with 3.5.13 copying from Bookmarks toolbar to another folder.

My windows xp prof. crashed . I installed the system hard drive into an external enclosure and couldnt find my customized bookmarks file. The only file I found is the default one located at \Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile\bookmarks.html, which is obviously useless.

Can I still recover my own bookmarks.html? How to do this ? Thanks.

A:where is the customized, not the default, bookmarks.html?

\Documents and Settings\*USERNAME*\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ak8zyh4h.default\

Under Profiles the folder may be named differently, but that should allow you to find it. I think copying those files over to the same place on the new hard drive would do the trick. (Just the files named "bookmark"?) There's one that's a .bak, one's .html, and another is .html.sbsd.

Hope that helps.

I have added some bookmarks earlier (have already many bookmarks) but I just can't find them and was wondering if it Is it possible to search for the bookmarks based on the date it has been added to the browser?
Just like opening windows explorer and you can search base on dates, file size or the name.

thanks in advance

A:Possible to search bookmarks based on date?

You did not say which browser but for firefox go to Bookmarks > Organize Bookmards.  In the Bookmarks Window select Views > Show Columns. Check Added for the date added.

Edit: I don't think you can search by date though. You can only sort by date by clicking on the Date Added heading.

I'm trying to create a HTML email.

In Outlook 2003 I could create a webpage in Dreamweaver, save it as HTML, open it in IE, then 'send page by email' - easy enough. Now, loads of the HTML doesn't work any more because Microsoft have disabled loads of HTML functionality for Outlook 2007.

I can get around most of it, but what I can't do is to create anchor points within documents - it keeps trying to link to the original file on my C: drive. Apparently Microsoft are using Word's HTML rendering, so I've also tried to do it through that and use their 'bookmarks' thing, but still no joy.

Any ideas?

You need to "host" the picture somewhere. I use http://photobucket.com/. It's free and quite easy to use.Sign up, log-in, click on the "browse" button. Find your image and then click "submit". Your picture will upload and you will see it right there. There will be 3 links under your picture. Copy and paste the "Image" link to the body of your message text, to have the picture show up here. BTW If you ever delete the pic. from your photo hosting site. It will no longer show in your post.

We are having a problem with documents with hyperlinks to other documents which occurs only after Windows XP Service Pack 2 is applied. Removing SP2 cures the problem, and the problem seems to involve only hyperlinks between Word documents when both the source and the target documents are on a local file system or a CIFS network attached filesystem.

The specific problem is with opening hyperlinks which use SMB/CIFS like file access to a local or network file system with a bookmark. After SP2 is installed, the parsing routine which passes the bookmark to the program which is opening the target document (e.g., MS Word) leaves the "#" character on the front of the string passed as the bookmark text.

With the "#" on the front, the string is never found, so the target document opens at the top, instead of where you expected.

As an example, if I was looking for "System integration test", the hyperlink would look something like "./testplan.doc#System integration test". The link should open document testplan.doc, and then perform a search for "System integration test". Instead, the search string passed to the program which has opened the document (Word, in this case) is "#Systen integration test".

Oddly enough, this only seems to occur if you are trying to jumpo between documents which are being pulled from a local file system, or one on a Windows server through file sharing. If you have the same file system available... Read more

I can not seem to add New Bookmarks to firefox. All my existing bookmarks are still there and work fine, however when I go to bookmark this page, I just get a blank edit this bookmark dialog box.

I've tried manually enter bookmarks by just pasting the url and giving it a name. This does add it, however when you click on it, nothing happens, and when I go to the properties, it opens a glitched properties window, where only the top of the window appears.

I see people on the firefox forums were directly to this link:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_..._places.sqlite

I'm not sure what steps I should try first so that I don't lose all my bookmarks. I can make a backup, but I guess it will just be glitched like how it is now, so I'm not sure what to do, to save my book marks.

Mozilla (Firefox) is strange the way they upgrade. It is recommended that an older version be removed before the newer version is installed. (Normally, most upgrades take care of that for you).

Assuming that Firefox was installed before you upgraded to XP, I wonder if it would help if you un-installed Firefox and then re-installed it.

What version of Firefox are you running? In version 11, there are several ways to access your bookmarks. Personally, I prefer to add a bookmarks toolbar to the toolbar area of Firefox and add folders for different bookmark categories:

Another way is to add a bookmarks button to your toolbar. This opens up your bookmarks in a sidebar:

Hi- I am in need of finding where my Bookmarks are located in the Firefox file folder. I'm hoping to be able to export them to IE7 which is my only working browser. Firefox (1.5) will no longer open. It stopped working after it was attempting to install some FF upgrade software (? application). While doing so the system locked up which it is prone to do several times a day-another post elsewhere, later. I am tempted to go ahead and install FF2.0 but fear that if V.1.5 is corrupted, I'll lose my hundreds of bookmarks for ever. Only a few are resident in IE7. Any suggestions will be deeply appreciated.

I use FF all the time both on my desktop and my laptop.
I keep my bookmarks up to date by keeping an updated Json file on my desktop and a backup on an external drive.

I updated last week when I got the newest version of FF. My json file is also up to date.

I don't brows much on the laptop but decided to update the FF. When I downloaded the latest ff I tried to import the json file but when I looked at the bookmarks.. they were the old set. I tried repeatedly to delete the old ones and did it manually... I uninstalled ff and reinstalled it but every time I try to get my new json file imported, it always loads the old set.

I searched for ff and mozilla files to delete any but didn't find any. I even dumped my cookies and cache but somehow I still have and old set of bookmarks turning up.
How do I get rid of this hidden file?

H.

I tried to find my bookmarks file for Firefox on my hard drive. Mozilla help directed me to %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ which had a bookmarks file but it showed it was last updated in June. I have added bookmarks since then why aren't they shown here?

A:Bookmarks in firefox

C:\Documents and Settings\User name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\???????.default is the folder that has your bookmarks.
You should have a bookmarks.html file and a bookmarks.BAK File (a backup file)
Then a bookmarkbackups folder with 5 bookmarks.html files in it. These are backup of the last 5 days or last 5 days that you started firefox in that profile.

I would do a search on bookmarks and see what other bookmarks files show up.

I am copying My Favorite Placesfrom AOL into Firefox Bookmarks. I have been able to do many without any trouble. Now I am trying to add more. and the files won't go into the folders. I drag them but the folders will not accept them.

I have tried creating the folders both before and after I attempt to send files over. As a result of this my list is getting way too long. I would appreciate your help.

First of all, I'm running windows 7 pro 64bit, with the latest version of firefox installed.

This has got me stumped. In xp I had a program set to regularly backup my firefox profiles folder. The most important file in this folder was (and still is) bookmarks.html.

Since I moved to windows 7 I've had the following small problem (to save anybody wasting time telling me things I already know, I am aware of exporting bookmarks from the bookmarks menu, and I also know about mozbackup, but I like the mozilla profile backup to run along with all my other automated backups).

I have googled all over the place about this, and I know that bookmarks.html is meant to be in

C:\Users\ME\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\"random_numbered_folder".default, but it is not.

There is an out of date bookmarks html folder in there (the entries are not what I currently have in firefox bookmarks). It's obviously not where firefox is getting the bookmarks from, as I shut down firefox, moved the file to desktop so that there was no bookmarks.html in the profiles folder, and restarted firefox.

When I restarted firefox all my bookmarks were there exactly as they should be.

I've searched the C drive to death but I cannot find out where the current bookmarks.html is.

Can anyone shed some light on this.

Many thanks for any replies.

Upon the requirement to restore my hard drive, I backed up all files/folders to reinstall upon completion of the restoration. I have a folder for my "favorites" or "bookmarks" for web browsing and want to import them to Firefox. The import option imports them from another browser but I cannot find a bookmark folder in Firefox or find a method to easily move them from my folder. Can anyone provide assistance with moving them to Firefox?

Thank you

A:Firefox Bookmarks

Firefox does not use a folder for bookmarks, it uses a SQLite database file places.sqlite.You should backup/restore from Firefox menu : Bookmarks -> Organize Boormarks ->Import/Export bookmarks. You can also use Mozilla Backup tool for creating backup of all Firefox settings.

You can get the bookmarks from your old Firefox profile folder. This is a hidden file, so you'll have to set windows to show hidden files:How to see hidden files in Windows Then navigate to:C:\ Documents and Settings \ user name \ Application Data \ Mozilla \ Firefox \ Profiles \ default.7dp \ Bookmark.htmlEither copy, or move that file, to the same location on your new harddrive, replacing the one that's there.

Firefox did an update yesterday for me and now I notice when I hit 'Bookmarks' the first option is 'Show All Bookmarks' while the second is 'Bookmark this page'. Has anyone noticed this?? They've gone and swapped them around.. Why would anyone want 'Show All Bookmarks' as their first option?? Are some people out there having trouble locating a page they bookmarked only a week ago?? Also when I hit 'Tools' what shows up right down the bottom is a tab dedictaed to Adblock plus (an addon) instead of 'Options' which has now been pushed up one. Again... Why?? Too hard for some to find their addons and configure Adblock from there?? Stick it right where Options used to be so THEY-CANT-MISS-IT?! I dont mind Firefox updates addressing security issues (they have to for their own sake) but leave my tabs alone!!

Windows XP keep advancing the date by one day on me. I don't see any option for automatically syncing the time with a server in the Date and Time control panel (I have all of my computers connected to an Active Directory domain). I've changed the date in the BIOS, but once Windows loads the date just changes again. I've installed all of the system updates and I've done a virus scan and nothing comes up.

I am very new to javascript. I mean, I'm at the Javascript for Dummies state

I occasionally come across scripts online and save them, to play with in my html editor.

I just found one which puts a button on a page, showing the time.

When clicked, a box comes up that says how many "miliseconds" have gone by since May 25, 2003, (maybe the date the page was made) and how many milsecs the person has spent (so far) on the page.

I tried changing the date to midnight June 7, 2003 (today) to see if it would change the amount of milisecs, but can't figure if it did. Since the number is changing anyway, and I don't know how to deal with milliseconds.

I don't know if I can post the script here, (below)without it trying to read it. Maybe it has to be inside html, and I'll take off the top and bottom. (script language, etc)

I think # is put before a line that is read and not included in the script, but I would have to go down them all on this.

Anyway, this isn't a big deal, just something I came across and wondered about changing. Just changing the date from May 25, 2003 to today's doesn't seem to change the reading.

Just trying to learn- and have to start somewhere..... javascripts don't seem quite as scary to me as they used to.

Thanks,

I recently installed Windows 8 Pro on my Acer Aspire 5515 notebook. I set the time and date on the desktop clock, and every time I log in, the time and date are wrong and I have to reset them again. I have a dual boot setup with Windows 8 on one partition, and Ubuntu 12.10 on the other.

It doesn't appear to be an issue with the hardware of my computer, because the time and day stay set in Ubuntu. Some time ago, I was running a boot time diagnostic, and I got a warning the the was not timer connected to the apic...but that's all I could read before the message disappeared, I researched what I could and learned that this could and learned this had something to do with a physical component of my processor or related to my processor, but was unable to find out any more. As far as I know, this is the only hardware problem I have, and I thought this might be the cause of my erratic time/date.

Any thoughts?

A:Time and date keep changing

The bios time and windows time are set properly. If I, say turn off my computer and retrun to windows later, the bios time will still be correct, as will the time in Ubuntu 12,10 on a separate partition, but Windows clock time will have changed.

The CMOS battery in my computer is fine.

A:XP Clock Changing but not Date

That's usually an indication that your CMOS battery is dying. Your CMOS battery is a quarter-sized battery (like an oversized watch battery) located on your motherboard, usually towards the bottom. Among other things, it drives your system clock when you have your computer turned off. Take it out and go to Wal-Mart jewelry counter or Radio Shack and they'll get you a replacement which is usually only a few bucks. Let me know if that helps.

Next time you are at the sore like Wal-Mart or the such purchase a new CMOS battery for the computer it is located on the motherboard and looks like a quarter in a little black holder - some of the holders may be different colors but most are black just write down the number on the back of the battery and get one the same number.

A:Firefox and its corrupted Bookmarks!

Firefox keeps backups of your bookmarks automatically. Please follow the steps in the following MozillaZine knowledge base:Restoring bookmarks in Firefox 3Starting in Firefox 3, you can replace your current bookmarks with a bookmark backup file using the "Restore" feature of the Bookmarks Manager ("Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Restore..."). You can select one of the dated backups that Firefox automatically creates or you can use the "Choose File..." option to select your own backup file. (If you see the error, Unable to process the backup file, read this article.)The automatic bookmark backups that Firefox creates are stored in the bookmarkbackups folder, located in the Firefox profile folder. You can also create your own bookmark backups using the "Import and Backup -> Backup..." feature. All bookmark backup files are stored in in JSON format. Any bookmarks saved in HTML format (such as exported bookmarks) must be imported (see above) rather than restored. [8]Note: You can also restore your bookmarks by exiting Firefox and removing the places.sqlite file from the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild the Places database from the latest JSON backup or, if no JSON file is found, from a bookmarks.html file, as detailed here; however, you will lose your browsing history. Source - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarksHope that helps,

Just want to make sure it is normal...

the last hour I was organizing all my bookmarks on Firefox 5 into folders and sub- folders.

I had to do a lot of copying and pasting, and I noticed firefox was not responding everytime I copied or pasted.

for example I was copying and pasting folder with thousands of bookmarks(2000-12K)
And it wasn't fast! I am quite disappointed with the performance.

Not only that, but after I finished copying when I selected one of the bookmarks in the folder, it was not responsive for a few seconds.

copying, pasting, and selecting took between 10s to 1m!!! This is a lot of time to wait just to move bookmarks around!

I wonder whether there is a problem in my laptop or thousands of bookmarks are really that huge...?

It is mostly the number of bookmarks compounded by the minimum ram you have. There isnt much to be done except add ram or prune bookmarks.

Finally tried Firefox, LOVE it -

One question about bookmarks
(there's always SOMETHING isn't there ?

In Netscape I had been able to move bookmarks to a specific
location in the list, such as positioning frequently used bookmarks
near the top of the list.

In Netscape it was easy - just Manage Bookmarks,
click and hold and move - basically drag and drop

Is that possible in FireFox?
If so, how?

I can't seem to figure that one out.

FF doesn't seem to have this feature

Thanks for any info!!

A:Managing Bookmarks in Firefox

It`s very easy.

Just left click and hold down the mouse button and drag the entry to wherever you want it on the bookmarks list and let go of the mouse button.

I am a new user of Firefox 2.0, converted from IE6. For the most part its pretty cool but one issue I have is about organizing bookmarks. It wants to arrange them alphabetically, including subfolders. The way I prefer to organize them is to have subfolders at the top of the list directly under the main folder no matter what the name, and then alphabetically except for a couple links that I might move to the top of the list because I go there often.

In firefox however, I have to open the main folder and then scroll down to sometimes find a subfolder way down near the bottom depending on the name, and not all subfolders together of course. How can I change this?

I do like the feature of the bookmark toolbar for some of my frequent bookmark folders, but again, when I click on the toolbar button for that folder I still have to scroll way down to find the subfolder so it is a little annoying. IE would remember the order I created, except if I had to reload my favorites from a backup then everything got into alphabetical order.

Hello,

I use Firefox for my Browser.

I would like to backup all of my Bookmarks to an external hd so I don't lose them; my
HD is beginning to have problems, apparently.

How would I back them all up, please ?

Where is the file of them stored in W7 ?
Would just transferring the File be the easiest way ?

Thanks,
Bob

I set up Firefox Sync  Bookmarks on my PC where and how do I get my Bookmarks which are being synced and saved ?

A:Firefox Sync Bookmarks ?

I'm not quite certain what you mean by "how do *I* get" in this context.  These are not saved for direct user access, but for access by Firefox itself.

If you are using Firefox on another computer (or even a separate account on the same computer such that Firefox runs a completely separate instance of itself) and open Sync preferences to log in with the Firefox account you created, all of your Bookmarks, add-ons, etc., will be "instantly" (however long it takes, which isn't all that long) synchronized to the Firefox session you're using at that moment.

The one thing you need to remember is if you did log in to your Sync account on a computer that isn't yours and that you don't intend to use again that you have to go back to the Sync options screen at the end and disconnect.  Otherwise your sync account remains logged in for that instance of Firefox when whoever uses it next starts it up (because that information is saved in the user profile for that person) and if they start adding, deleting, etc., it will sync back, and most of us don't want that.

This is one reason that I generally only log in to my sync account on instances of Firefox that run under a dedicated Windows account for me on various machines.  I know that if I did this temporarily somewhere else I'd likely walk away without disconnecting the sync account and that could wreak havoc.

I just installed windows 7 on my laptop. I made a copy of the hard drive before I installed the new one. The usb drive has the whole old drive on it. I need to import or copy my bookmarks from the old drive to the new one in to fierfox. How do I so that?

A:Need help moving firefox bookmarks

on your flash drive go to your firefox folder ex) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe
u should be able to load your old firefox along with your old bookmarks if not right click it and run as admin when it opens go to tabs bookmarks>organize bookmarks>import and backup>export html and save it to your desktop, after that open your new firefox and repeat the same process except import html instead of export html and then go to the html file located on your desktop and select it, u should be done after that
