Moving a large block of OE 6 emails to a different folder.. How To?

Q: Moving a large block of OE 6 emails to a different folder.. How To?

I use OE 6 on an XP Pro platform, and I need to move a large block of business emails from one OE folder to another. There are roughly 8,000 emails in this folder, and I need to move half to a new folder so they will compact properly.

Is there a FAST WAY to "Select" or highlight 4,000 out of 8,000 emails? It would take hours to hold down the Ctrl key and individually click all 4,000. Using Edit>Select All will not accomplish what I need. In a regular Windows folder, one can hold the Ctrl key and drag the cursor beside a long list of files to select them. Is there any way to do something similar inside an OE folder? Thanks.

When I receive a new email it naturally goes straight to my inbox but after about 5 minuites it gets sent to my deleted folder. I have looked through almost all of the settings but cannot find any thing to sort this problem. This happens to every single new message I get. I have another hotmail account but all new messages stay in my inbox. If it helps I use Mozilla Firefox.

I will shortly need to move a large number (20,000) very large (20-30Mb) image files and associated tiny xmp sidecar files from one hard drive to another.

MS file explorer will make a meal of this so any suggestions for alternatives please? I have several folders each containing many thousands of files as above so moving a folder en-bloc is an option rather than file by file?

A:moving large number of large files to new drive

Simply drag and drop the folder(s).

Might want to do a copy first, verify that everything did indeed get copied, and then delete the originals.

I have a client that has to regularly move emails from his inbox to a PST on his company shared drive. Moving files under 100kbs seem fine but this client needs to regularly move emails upwards of 5Mbs in size to his PST on the share. When he does move these files his outlook gets hung up to the point of completely freezing everything on his computer just to move the email. It can take upwards of 10-20 minutes to move one file.

The troubleshooting I have performed:
-I tried setting his network adapter to 100 Mbs Full Duplex, didn't appear to do anything
-Speed test his connection, he is running about 1.2-1.5 Mb down and 1.5+ Upload, so no issue there.
-I tested moving a 15Mb file to his shared drive, this seemed to be uploading fine, after a minute or 2 it was nearly half done, so this leads me to believe the issue is more pertaining to outlook.
-I then killed his outlook profile, recreated him a new one and remapped the PSTs.
-Had him test moving files again, and the same issue is still occurring.
-The client also reports this was not always an issue and had recently started happening.

At this point I am stuck and would like any advise anyone may have to offer for a solution.

My girlfriend is using a Satellite Toshiba (a pretty old one, it seems) and she has a large black flashing box after any text whenever she is typing anything instead of the usual text select bar. I'm usually good at fixing her little computer problems, but I haven't seen this before. It looks like the box you'd find in a DOS program that is about the width/height of a capital courier new character. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there, I have a failing hard drive that I'm trying to recover data off of, only problem is I guess there are bad sectors or corrupt files because every now and again I get a 'can not read source file from disk' and have to skip the file. Which is fine. However; this does mean that I can't just leave it and come back later because any files that can't be read are going to interrupt the process. I'm wondering if there's a program that can simply automate this for me. I'm trying teracopy as I type this but it's been stuck on the same file for the past ten minutes and I'm not sure if it will skip the file after so long or not and the skip button its self hasn't allowed me to skip the file. I'm trying to copy about 300GB of saved data so it would be really nice if I didn't have to monitor the movement of it.

I am trying to move files greater than 4GB from my internal 300GB hd to an external USB 1TB hd. Attempts to copy yield an error that there is not enough disk space, use disk cleaner. Clearly that is not the case. Apparently there is a size limit Xp has for file copy / move.

I tried a utility named 4th split but that did not work (it would only create a 1024 kb file). I used to have a utility 1 to x, but cannot find that.

Any suggestions?

A:[SOLVED] Moving Large Files

Hi, welcome to TSF

32-bit XP is limited to 4gb filesize. Try creating a split file with WinZip or WinRar. You can set the split size to whatever you want or choose the number of splits required and it will calculate the filesizes for you.

This must be a chore for you guys. :-)

I am running Windows on an MSI 7360 Motherboard under the latset BIOS (1.A0) I have 2 Western Digital HDDS. (250Gbyte)

Everything runs fine for weeks on end. I can play some pretty intensive games (Far Cry 2, Civ 5 etc) no problems.
However, as soon as I try and transfer a large file from one HDD to another (either between the two HDD's above or to and from an external Maxtor drive I have) I get a BSOD.

Generally it is a 0x124, but there are some others mixed in.

For example. I downloaded the client for Lord of the Rings online onto one drive and installed it from the client download onto the other drive.
I got a BSOD.
So I thought I would install it on the same drive the download was on - again I got BSOD.
Sometimes when I am downloading large updates (generally 1 gig plus) at some point I will get a crash.

I downloaded Seagate HDD tester and ran the long test through DOS on both drives (3 hours in total) NO errors reported. I ran Memtest86 for 6 hours sold , 4 hours generic then individually on each stick of RAM with no errors reported.

I reformatted the HDD's and re-installed Windows 7 - but the errors continued when I tested.

I'm beginning to think it's my motherboard - a dry joint problem. I don't want it to be that as that's major work (I might as well get new CPU and memory if I replace mobo)

Here is the last "Who Crashed" dump. I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to have a ... Read more

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 running XP. I also have a Seagate 250 gig external hard drive where I keep music, photo, and movie files. Lately, I began to get delayed write errors when copying/moving files from the c drive to my external (g) drive. I looked online for some fixes, went into the properties of both drives, and disabled the cache (whatever that means!). Now, I'm not getting the delayed write errors, but the moving/copying of large files is taking much longer that it was before. Copying a 1 gig folder will now take up to 5 minutes, when before any of these issues started, it used to take a few seconds. I did a chkdsk of the external drive and the issue continues. Any ideas what could be going on? Thank you all in advance for your replies.

If you Copy, you aren't moving anything. Cut will move it though. w7 will auto defrag your drive at any rate.

I've been using the RTM version of Windows 7 Enterprise through my companies gold partnership msdn program. So far I'm really impressed, a great improvement on VISTA.

However a problem I used to get with VISTA, which was solveable, now haunts windows 7. That is Vista used to spend a lot of time trying to preview AVI files, stoping you from renaming, moving or deleting them. The fix I had with vista:-

ECHO Un-Registering shmedia.dll...
REM Remove Media (e.g. AVI) preview, type and hit enter
regsvr32 /u %windir%\system32\shmedia.dll

However this doesn't work with Windows 7. I don't want to disable all previews, just the video files, mainly AVI. Any ideas?

Also on the new Windows 7 toolbar, I don't like how much extra space the notification icons take up (e.g. the ones near the clock), there all really spaced out. Anyway this can be changed? On vista and XP if I have a double height taskbar, you get three rows of notification icons. Now you just get two, even with the new larger windows 7 taskbar. I've hidden just about as many as I can, but still takes up 1/3 of my task bar.

A:Windows 7 Problem moving / deleting large AVI's

I don't have a solution for your problem, but I'd just like to remark Windows 7 has quite a few glitches when it comes to video and multimedia. Among the other ones I've noticed, thumbnails previews are EXTREMELY inconsistent. Some work, some don't. That is with videos playable by WMP. And even with the same codec, some work some don't. Also there's still things to be ironed out with MOV files support.

I am using Outlook Express 6 with XP Pro S/P2, & often receive U-tube attatchments from trusted friends without any problems. However, when I re-send them from a saved file, to other people, just some of them get only part, or plain gobbledegook, and it has happened to people using O/Exp. as well as Firefox. Just last night I tried to send one in a compressed .war format plus a .wmv format and when it was taking ages to up-load, I hit the stop button to, hopefully, do just that. Now I have received a reply from my friend (Who also uses O/Exp. ) saying that he has received 12 corrupted copies and is naturally, not happy.

You know how UAC (user account Control) asks for permission when executing certain programs or when renaming or modding certain files in certain directories?

Well i wish i could have it govern over many other folders and files because i tend to accidentally move my hand when double-clicking and may move or rename things by mistake. even for simple files like music and movies and pictures

Also, is there a way to put a password on giving such permissions. For me a simple warning of the UAC popping up would be enough because it gives me a chance to change my mind if i made a mistake. However it would be good to raise the security level even higher for totally blocking family or friends from moving stuff around, yet allowing them to use those files. I just dont want, say, my children to screw up their "Cartoons" folder that has all their cartoon avi's in it. or other things, yet i still want them to watch them.

A:Governing files & Can UAC Block/Warn Before File Moving/Renaming?

I remember finding options to make some of the changes you speak of. You can type UAC in the start-menu search bar to find the regular UAC settings to up it to always notify. The easiest way to make those changes is to use gpedit.exe, but its not available in Home Premium. I'll keep looking around for you. Would you mind telling me exactly what version of 7 you have?

When I send an email less than about 250 kb, it goes off without a hitch. However, when I send an email with a bigger attachment it stays in my outbox and appears to be continually resent on a loop, with recipients getting numerous copies of the email. I have Bit Defender for virus protection - is there something wrong with its configuration, as it seems to be scanning the outgoing emails slower than it takes to send them? I have set Bitdefender not to scan outgoing emails, however.

A:Sent emails with large attachments repeating

Sounds like you have a 'mail block'.

I have been the 'recipient' of this. All I got was the same email constantly. I resolved it by deleting it directly at my ISP. ie. I logged onto my ISP and looked at mail on there rather then 'OE' and deleted the large file.

This may be the problem. I think the limit of email attachment in OE (if that's what your using) is 10MB. If you need to send larger files you might want to try msn messenger, you can send huge files over that.

I hope this helps

I need some info to pass on to a friend without seeming too grouchy. I think it's cos she really just does not understand and I don't know how to explain it to her.
The problem is.

I use Outlook Express as it's what I've had ever since I had a computer. I have Gmail also but the express address is the one all my old friends already have.
So then, I have this one close friend of many years who from time to time insists on sending some things, photos mainly, that are too large for my screen. Yeah I can see them but only by scrolling from side to side and up and down, which is a pain.

I can't open her docs either if sent as attachments and finally got her to stop sending those. But not photos.
The latest photo is 1.53MB. That doesn't seem large but it sure fills the entire screen.

OK I know I can forward them to gmail and open there and see what she's sent, or even just give her that address.
Fine. No problem there. But it bothers me that I can't find a way to instruct her on the proper way to send photos via emails.
She claims nobody else has ever said anything. Maybe so. Maybe they don't want to offend.

Hi there

If you have Loads (and I mean Loads) of small files - e-books, excel data. word docs, emails etc etc then File explorer runs REALLY slow on even fast devices

I gave up moving this lot after about 4 hours. (W10 machine).

Switched to Linux system -- did it in 45 mins similar hardware to W10 machine - both Real machines --not VM's and direct transfer (not via LAN).

What gives !!!!!

I know it's only a 1 time move but similar hardware with identical HDD should not have a HUGE difference in the move --note in fact Linux actually has hard a harder job since the file system was NTFS which isn't a native Linux file system either. Source system external HDD on USB 3 device,, target systm larger HDD device on USB3 device -- no hubs - USB 3 transfer working OK on both W10 and Linux so reasonable comparison.

IMO the NTFS file system has serious problems if you start messing around with this type of data. !!!! Perhaps Ms need to look at a better file system for Mass storage devices. 5 and 6 TB HDD's are quite common now even for consumer sector and not expensive either.

I know this is an exceptional job but it does show that something in File explorer isn't very efficient once you start manipulating large volumes of data - especially in small files. (Approx 290 TB of data consisting of 128,000 files in 55,000 odd directories)

I'm usually quite happy with Windows - but there is definitely a problem here. Fortunately it was a 1 off job though !!!!.... Read more

I know this was covered in a few threads I tried this out but I seem to be lost -

What version of which email client is this for? Because I am not seeing this option -

2) Then down below where your rule shows the blue letters, click on them. When the box comes up, choose options. You will see 2 radio buttons:

Message contains the words below
Message does not contain the words below

Choose Message does not contain the words below..

When I click on the blue letters it just gives me the choice to add more letters there is no Options selection in there at all. I tried both Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003 hooked up to an exchange server and a pop server both and neither had the options choice.

Any thoughts?

In the last week or so I've been hit with a ton of BS scam emails. 1 type of email is just a name "Joe" with no subject line & no body of the email. It has an (pdf) attachment like "payment.pdf" or "schedule.pdf". I figure they are just junk emails & I delete them. The problem is (1) I get several everyday now. (2) I run a small biz & don't want to accidentailly delete an important message or file someone is sending me. (I know they should say who they are when they send it, but you'd be surprised how many people will send you a file you asked for w/o any extra info) So I can't filter emails based on the fact they have a pdf attachment. The other scam I'm getting is a ton of "Greetingcard" type emails. I've figured out how to filter/delete most of them, but they still are annoying. I hope mozilla will figure out how to stop these type of emails from being sent. They usually do a good job of fixing these issues. What I'm asking is: Does anyone have any suggestions about how to stop those .pdf & greeting card emails from reaching my mailbox?

A:How Do I Block/trash Emails Sending Me Scam .pdf Attachments!?

If you use thunderbird, go to View, Message source, or {CTRL - U}, and you will be able to see the original email address the junque came from, it looks something like this:From - Fri Jul 20 12:57:04 2007X-Account-Key: account2X-UIDL: <[email protected]>X-Mozilla-Status: 0001X-Mozilla-Status2: 00000000X-Mozilla-Keys: Return-Path: <[email protected]>Received: from ([])then you can use the thunderbird junk mail filters to delete that email.

I'm posting here for a my next door neighbor. He is having a difficult time sending emails larger than 3MB. They seem to get stuck in the Outbox. He has been through multiple conversations with his ISP (Verizon FIOS) and with Microsoft. No one, so far, has given any definitive help. Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't. I've spent a few hours now trying to figure out the problem but no success. I actually gave him this computer about a month ago and I never had this problem with it.

Any of you Guru's help would be greatly appreciated.

He's running Windows XP PRo SP2 3.2 GHz w/ 1 GB memory. The email client is Outlook 2003 SP1.

I am using Windows Live Mail to send to my Verizon and msn accounts. I can receive mail consistently. I can send small mails consistently. If I try to send a larger gets stuck in the outbox and all subsequent mails stack up behind it.

Right now, there is a 900kB mail in my outbox. If I try to send to my Verizon account, I get a message:

A:Outlook sending multiple copies of large emails

Did the emails actually come from your system? You'll have to go through the headers to determine the actual source.
Or do they just have your email address in the From and/or Reply to fields? Not much you can do in this case, except file a complaint with the ISP the email was sent from.

Check whether the external drive is formatted NTFS or FAT32. If the drive is FAT32, then the maximum allowed size for files is 4GB. You'll either need to convert the drive to NTFS, or split the AVI file into smaller chunks that fit within the FAT32 4GB boundary.

Is there a way to move/copy files from one folder to another...or one drive to another...without having the destination file's properties updated to the current date and time ?

A:Can you keep file dates from changing when moving folder to folder

If you move within folders on the same drive the date and time are preserved. If you move from one drive to another the create date changes.

My Zone alarm and Vista didnt seem to like each other and so Zone alarm wouldn't uninstall even using Revo. I was advised to back up all my files and then do a factory restore, which I did onto an external hard disc.
I tried to use the Wizard to move the files back onto my machine but was told by the wizard that as backup had not been set up on my machine it could not do a transfer. I presume because I had reverted to a factory settings reinstall.
I can see my windows mail folder on my external hard drive. I have been able to copy and paste all my contacts and that is working well
My question to the panel is what is then the easiest way to move the messages folder back onto my machine? Can I move the whole folder and all its contents or can I go into the folder and just pull back the In and out box.
When I look into say the In box on my external backup all I see is a winmail.fol extension. What should I be looking for and doing Guys? this is driving me nuts!

A:moving backed up emails back into Vista

The email messages will be in files with the .eml extension.

If you locate those, then create folders in Windows Mail and
highlight the .eml files and drag them to the folders you just
created. It is not a good practice to store emails in the
default folders.

I am working in a small office with three computers. They all have outlook 2013 and are connected to the same email address using POP (we are changing to IMAP soon, not sure if any of that is important). There are many folders created to categorise the many emails we send and receive. Just today on only one of the computers approximately 200 of the sent emails from the various folders have been moved back into the sent folder. As far as we know no one has touched anything.

These are not duplicates.

Why did this happen (and why only to one computer)?

Is there any way of reversing it without manually putting them into the folders again?

Many Thanks

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Check the rules configured within Outlook to make sure they are still there. Also, was Outlook closed when the emails were sent? This would make it so any local rules were not running at that time.

Hello there,
I am new to this site, however I already have a question. My computer was hit by a storm and we had to take the hard drive out. I am now on a different PC, I have the hard drive in a box that is plugged into this pc through a USB port. I need to set up email onto this pc, but would like to retrieve all of my emails that were stored in various files in my outlook express folder on my hard drive from the old pc. How can I set up the new outlook express and import the files from the old hard drive?

A:Moving saved emails from a hard drive onto a new pc

Ideally you'd have a copy of your email on the account server which you could just download again and go from there but...

You want the emails to show up in OE6 just like they were in the old PC I take it? Its a bit difficult with OE6, especially if you didn't have a chance to save the emails to a file prior to moving. In your account on the old drive there will be a number of .dbx files, one for each folder you had in each traditional email account (inbox.dbx will be one). You'll need to search for and retreive those files from the old drive.

Then after you have set up OE6 on the new system with the account(s) properly configured and checked to leave a copy of the email on the server for the first run, run it the first time to place all the new .dbx files in the new account. Then close OE6 and manually replace the new .dbx files with the corresponding .dbx files you retrieved from the old drive. Set the leave a copy of the email on server checkbox to your preference and you should be good to go from then on.

So I recently graduated from university, and the email account I was using through the campus server will now have the word "alumni" added to the domain address. It will only have a 50 MB capacity, meaning it can keep all the email it has in it but cannot receive anything if it's over. I have many important emails I'd really like to keep, and so I asked our IT technicians for help. What they did was select a Rule (through Options on Microsoft Outlook Web Access) which is the following: Forward email -- "apply this rule after the message arrives with my name in the To or Cc box and forward it to [email protected]"

So far it's been great - but the only thing is, it only forwards any new mail that enters my box AFTER the rule was selected. Obvious I know, but I was also hoping the solution would somehow move past mail. Is there something that would enable me to move all of this (it's a lot), or would I have to do all of this manually?

I don't mind having to do it manually, but it would always be nice to have an easier option. Thanks in advance! Would appreciate any answers!

I've done this lotsa times, normally I move the location onto my D drive so I can back it up easier but this time it didn't work.
I also tried 'importing' them but that didn't work either, everything imported except my IN folder. I've been fiddling around with it and now have the laptop back to where it started with just it's original Personal folder, but now I have 2 Personal folders which are both empty.

I have both incoming and outgoing emails sent to multiple people. Most are filtered into one subfolder because they all apply to the same group project. Email can be incoming/outgoing from one or more of this list of people, so I set up rules for each person to filter into this one subfolder.

The rule says "move" to subfolder.
I want Outlook to move the email at the first rule.
Outlook applies all rules to that one email, not simply the first one.
I end up with five or six of the same email in that one subfolder.
For example, I could get email from Person X, Person Y, or Person Z. Or from Persons X & Y, Persons X & Z, or Person Y and someone not yet listed. Each email needs to be moved to the one subfolder once, not once for each person.

All instructions on how to make or apply rules imply or state that the rules are applied in a specific order. Why else would there be instructions on how to change the order in which they are applied?

I have placed my rules in order, rearranged the order, deleted and started over (over 100 rules) going very slowly and verifying every variable. "Move" still doesn't move until all possible rules are applied.

What setting do I need to set to get the *bleepin* software to move an email to a subfolder once and only once? Launch Windows Explorer. Select all the files/folder you want to compress (you can also use CTRL+click to add more files). Right-Click > Send To > Compressed Folder. The ZIP will be located in the folder you are workin in. There is a tutorial if you need more info : Zip a File or Folder - How To

Here are screenshots of how it's done with the built-in zip feature :

If you want more features though, I recommend 7-Zip. It's lightweight, has a LOT of options, usually has better compression on ZIP (or you can use the 7z format which compresses even more), and is open-source : 7-Zip. It will add a context menu accessible via Right-Click in Explorer.

Hello. New user here looking for some help. I was cutting and pasting 4 media folders from C:/media/movies to C:/media/TV shows
I cut them. Clicked my media folder link to open it in file explorer and the TV shows folder was missing.
It was just there 5 minutes prior because I was looking to see what files I had there already and what I needed to move over. This folder was pretty large...30ish shows with multiple seasons. I believe it's too large for the recycle bin, but I checked there anyway. I also ensured the view hidden folders option was checked. I can see all other hidden folders. Not sure how that would have happened anyway. Also, a search for file names produces nothing. This is the only drive on the PC. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't notice a big increase of free space as if it was deleted. All other folders in C:/media ate still intact.

A:large folder vanished

Just FYI - I no longer use "cut".  I always use "copy", then I go back and delete if it's not needed.
I've lost too many files that way
If you've cut and it hasn't appeared, try pasting again to see if it was just a glitch
Try GetDataBack Simple from here:
The free version will tell you if there's something left to recover - then they'll want money if you want to recover it.

I'm having trouble with a game all of a sudden and I'm not sure if it's hardware or software related, so I may try to reinstall the game (even though it has been working perfectly fine for 4 years until now ) and see if that helps.

The game... NASCAR Racing 2003 Season... takes up about 15 gigs on my hard drive. I will burn most of the files to a CD, but I'd like to copy the entire folder or subfolders somewhere else on my hard drive (ample space) to make it an easier transfer later on.

The folder is 15 Gb. Will Windows let me copy and paste something that big? How long will it take?

Or is there a certain reasonable limit for each copy and paste? Don't want to make my CPU and hard drive explode to make matters worse.

A:Block Applcation Access to a Folder

You could set up a work-around using App-Locker. Rights (Permissions) are basically user oriented, and I can't think of a way offhand to apply them to a specific application, but you can prevent users from using specific applications, and so achieve basically the same thing.

The only way I know of to be able to do what you are asking is by setting group policies. This is somewhat advanced, and usually done by IT tech's / admins, however if you Google "group policies Windows 7" you can find out a great deal about what it is, and if this is something you feel comfortable doing.

Couple of things worth noting:

1) Only works on Windows 7 Ultimate, Professional, or Enterprise to my knowledge. Will not work on Home Premium versions.

2) Must be admin.

Good Luck!

Anyone can tell me how to block some people to access a folder?

I have a folder in 2000 server that is shared with domain users. I don't want few people who are domain users to access that folder. Can I do this? Thanks.

A:How can I block people to access a folder?

Put all the users you want to access the folder in a Group and give only that group access to the folder.

i have windows mail and imap folders. i added a folder to keep all my surveys in. i have now deleted it and the emails in it about 4 times now. i figured out today how i am doing that. open folder, open email, delete email and the folder itself is still highlighted, so when the message "do you want to permently delete this" is displayed, i think its for the email, not the folder and say yes.....and the folder and all the emails inside get deleted. duhhhh. is there anyway i can block this folder from being deleted? like imap inbox cant be deleted. i know, i know read the messages before deleting things, would fix my problem.

Hi there. Trying to free up some space on my measly 32GB SSD. So far i've disabled hibernate which has saved me four gigs already which is great. And now i'm looking at windirsat here and i see that the program 'doubletwist' is using up nearly 2gig in the appdata folder, even though i have the actual program installed to a different HDD. So basically i'm wondering if i could move those files out of the appdata folder, but in a way that doubletwist will still read them, as otherwise it's just going to save more files in there.

Hope all that makes sense. thanks!

A:large appdata folder on ssd, can i save it somewhere else?

Hello hendoben

The only way I know of is to move the whole user folder which includes the AppData folder. Have a look at these tutorials - User Profile - Change Default Location
User Profiles - Create and Move During Windows 7 Installation

hi-i have just realised that my firefox folder is about 750mb in size.there are two files in it labelled-video.avi.ddp.they are both approx 350.oo mb in size it normal to have these files?can i safely delete them?

A:[SOLVED] large firefox folder

Which Firefox folder are they in? You normally have two. One in Program Files and one in Application Data. The second one is your profile and is the one that would be more likely to get large.

Are those files in the cache?

Last night, just before bed time, my wife informed me that she had seen, earlier in the day, a message indicating low disk space on our Windows 7 (Home Premium) Laptop. I took a look at the properties on C drive and it was down to about a half GB free space. This was on an 80 GB partition on which Windows is located. I ran Disk Cleanup and there is still only a bit less than 3 GB free space. I took a quick look at the properties of each folder at the root of C drive and found that the C:\Windows folder occupied about 48 GB. Isn't this way too much? Could this be related to Windows 10 to which we never upgraded? I'll look a little further this weekend to see if I can locate the bulk of the files, but I'm guessing I'm going to have to remove some Windows Updates or something, and if so, I'll likely need a little coaching on that.

I've heard that folders that contain more than 4GB's of data are prone to become corrupt or possibly crash the HD. With that in mind I have organized my music into one folder and then 4 subfolders each containing about 4GB's each. Any truth to this?
I have also heard that file size is an issue with .pst's which makes more sense.

A:Large Folder-Corrupt Potential?

No its not true at all

Looking at the properties of my C:/Users/Pauline folder, it shows a size of 198Gb, yet opening the folder and viewing the size of each file and sub-folder, they add up to no more than 2Gb (I keep all the libraries and user data files on a separate drive).
Another user, myself, as C:\Users\Malcolm shows a size of 9Gb. Even this is much much larger than the sum of the sub folders, but I could live with that.
Going to folder options and showing hidden and protected files shows nothing in the way of very large files.
Any ideas welcome, as my C: drive is almost full and I don'y know why!!

A:Windows 7 C:/User folder large

Your best bet would be to download an application like SpaceSniffer which would give you a graphical view of where the consumed space is going.

It's real easy to use. Just open the zipfile you download, drag the application to your desktop, and launch it.

I see your specs as Windows 7. You may want to right-click on the application and select 'Run as Administrator' which might give you a better view into folders that might otherwise be restricted.
