Q: IE, Firefox + Chrome: how do I control the header and footer that gets printed?

IE, Firefox + Chrome: how do I control the header and footer that gets printed?

IE and Firefox, I can control
Problem: how do I make it a permanent setting?
I have to set it *every* time I print

Chrome: my favourites browser, but I just can't see where I can set the options about printing the header and footer?

The options and settings for Chrome seem to be very limited?

Thanks

Hi Folks,

I am starting to get a few headaches from this issue hoping that someone can assist.

I am creating an invoice which I am getting data from an external source, all works fine no problem.

However, I need the header to be visible on any additional pages.

If an invoice is generated and generates 2 or more pages, the footer is displayed on the last page, and the others pages have a message along the lines of 'To be continued'.. etc.

Please let me know if this doesn't make sense..!

Many Thanks

Could some clever person please make my life easy and tell me the solution to this scenario? I have just set up a template which consists of a letterhead and a footer, the footer obviously to appear on however many pages the letters will total. The footer includes the page numbers.

Now...as I type the letters I want to be able to include throughout the letter header (consisting only of patient's name) but NOT have it appear on the first page. When I tell Word "Different First Page" whilst in the header itself, the footer is also affected this way.

So...how to have same header appear on all pages EXCEPT the first but to have same footer appear on all pages?

Many thanks for your help.

Julie

A:Header/footer conflict

Generally, when you do the diff first page thing, it wipes the header/footer off of page 1. So, just copy your footer from page 2 into page 1. That's all.

A:Word Header & Footer

Hi Linda24

If You go into Word 2003, it is in View and header and Footer. You can then drag the box into your Toolbar. you will most likely find that your friend has a template to default or something if they have the header and footer toolbar come up when they open word. As it should only open when you have selected the header and Footer command under the View Menu.

Hope thats helpful?

Hi, I hope someone will be able to help me.

When adding a footer to Excel spreadsheets, there is the option to add the file path, file name or sheet name so that it is easy to find the document again. These are found in Header and Footer Elements at the top of the sheet in Design tab.

Is there something similar in Word 2007? When I click on Footer in the Design tab I just get a list of different styles but nothing that puts in the file path automatically.

Thanks

Hi all, thanks in anticipation:

I have Office 2003. Tonight I opened a web-based Office document and it seems to have screwed up Normal.dot.

I always like to view all Word docs with Header/Footer view ON. All of a sudden, every single document opens without any header/footer visible, even though I often DO have a header actually there. The default page layout has not changed: it is Print Layout. So it should show up. But the header keeps unticking itself from the VIEW column on the toolbar.

I have tried opening Normal.dot and pressing view header/footer, it appears, then I add some text and delete it and press SAVE ALL. But when I reboot Word it still won't bloody open up the document properly. The header/footer just goes missing.

Please help! I know it's pedantic, but I live with Word, sadly.

A:always view header/footer

Perhaps try deleting the normal.dot document. Close word first, delete the file, then re-open word. Word should re-create the normal.dot document.

Using Word 2007 on my PC:
I have separated my document into section page breaks, and created sequential page numbers in the header for each section (starting over for each section at number 1). At the same time, I would like my footer to total the number of pages of the document as a whole (aka- link it to each previous section). However, when I tried to do this, it kept changing the header also, so that the header would be linked to the previous section's page number sequence also- can I stop it from doing this? Can I have difference number sequences in the footer than I do in the header?
Thanks.

When I open Header & Footer toolbar and click "insert auto text", the drop-down box is empty; ie things like filename, filepath, author etc have disappeared.

A while ago I created autotext entries on the main autotext toolbar and these are still there. When I did this I deleted the default entries like "yours sincerely" etc. I did not fiddle with the header and footer autotext entries though, so can't understand where these have got to.

Any suggestions, please? (Using WINME/ Office 2000)

A:header/footer first page query

Are we talking about Microsoft Word here, WordPerfect or ..

On the chance that its Word you are referring to, locate your "normal.dot" template.

Where it is stored depends on the version of Word and your operating system. There will be one occurrence of the file for each user logging on the PC.

Its marked as a system file, so enable the viewing of these files before you go looking. It will be there. This is assuming Windows OS. If its a Mac, cant help you.

Open it in Word, and make all the selections you want as a default. Save it, and from then on every new document will inherit those options.

Recently our Office Suite was upgraded from 2000 to 2003.

I had a macro (that you helped with) working well in the old version to upon save take a field from a worksheet 'lists' and write that field into the header and footer, and then update the last saved timestamp....

Now it will not write to the header and footer at all, and will not update the time stamp for last saved.

Here is the code from the worksheet 'lists':
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Excel.Range)
If Target.Column = 1 Or 2 Then
On Error Resume Next

Application.DisplayAlerts = False
'ActiveSheet.protect UserInterfaceOnly:=True
Range("A2").Select
Selection.TextToColumns Destination:=Worksheets("lists").Range("A3"), DataType:=xlDelimited, _
TextQualifier:=xlDoubleQuote, ConsecutiveDelimiter:=False, Tab:=False, _
Semicolon:=False, Comma:=False, Space:=False, Other:=True, OtherChar _
:="*", FieldInfo:=Array(Array(1, 1), Array(2, 1))
Application.DisplayAlerts = True
End If

End Sub
(The 'lists' code as far as I know is only there to set the values to be used in the header, the workbook code is the one that takes those values and writes them to the header/footer)

Here is the workbook code:

Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal SaveAsUI As Boolean, cancel As Boolean)

Dim filename, rdims, name, fs As String
Worksheets("lists").Range("A6").Value = fs

Call SetSaveLoc

Just wanted to comment on the now-closed thread about viewing Headers and Footers in Word 2007. I recently moved to using 2007 so all my previous docs are in 2003. I was editing a doc that needed a change in the header. Thinks: rolleyes:because 2007 is "intuitive") this will be on the insert or view menus. Couldn't find any mention of H&Fs. Looked up help and it says open insert ribbon and select H&Fs. NO - IT'S NOT THERE!! I read your thread about revealing the blank space - but that's not the answer either. So I could see it on print preview - but nowhere else.
What I found was that using Office Button/ Word Options (at the foot) and then Advanced; there is - right at the very end of the advanced options - a section which says "Lay Out this document as if created in.." and I selected Word 2003. This immediately revealed the H&Fs as per Word 2003 and I was able to edit them. Moreover .. when I reverted to viewing as 2007 layout it was still there AND the H&F menu section had appeared on the Insert Ribbon AND it has continued to appear on re-starting Word. So it must have been a "first-time" problem on switching over to 2007.
(But why does it have to be so complicated ???)

If you click on “File” “Open” and open a file from a network share the footer and headers are missing and at the bottom of the document Word add a bunch of stuff. Please see below.

But if you click on File then select the same document from the recently open list, it will open and look normal with the footer and header.

I have a large number of Word files and would like to add a footer or header to each showing the filename. I know how to do it by opening each file one at a time but this will be quite time consuming and I was wondering if there was a way to do a batch of files at once? A:Inserting Header/footer In Multiple Word Files

I can't think of a way of doing this to previously saved files but if you edit the normal.dot file to have this on then it will do this for all new documents.

The only other way would be to use a VB script to add it on opening of a file. This would mean coding it and then opening every file. The only advantage to this is hat you would not need to do manually for every file.

I have managed to lose the drop down menu that displays when one selects Header/Footer from the "View" option on the Word toolbar.

What I did was accidentally drag it over the toolbar and released the mouse button which resulted in the drop down menu not displaying when I select Header/Footer from the "View" option.

What does happen when I select Header/Footer is the header and footer in the document currently open displays the header/footer boxes.
I can edit what exists in the open document but there is no way to create new headers/footers or use the options normally available on the Header/Footer drop down menu.

I've searched on just about every word and phrase I can think of in Word Help, but alas it's not being very helpful. Perhaps someone here can help me out.

Many thanks!

A:Retrieving Word Header/Footer Drop Down Menu

The toolbar should have embedded itself in the main toolbar in that case. You should be able to grab the left hand end of it and undock it.

If that does not work for some reason, I think toolbar settings are held in "normal.dot", so with Word closed, search for and rename any "normal.dot" files to "normal.old". Then restart Word.

You will need to enable hidden files and folders under Search or you will not find the file(s). There must be at least one.

Normal.dot is the default template, and when Word does nor find the file when it runs, it creates a new one with all standard defaults.

I do not wish to count the front page and contents pages of my document so I would usually de-select the "Link to previous" button, but in Word 2007, the "Link to previous" button never seems to be highlighted (active) for clicking..

Therefore it is forcing all my pages to share the same header and footer as the page above...

Am I doing something wrong here?

Hey guys, been awhile since I was here..anyway.

My sister is trying to write a paper here with MS Word XP, and when trying to add in a Header, the Header is displaying on all pages, as opposed to just the front page.

I've searched around in options and tried to erase the 2nd page header with no luck. The way I've been putting on the header is through View > Header and Footer.

My question is this: How do I isolate that one header on the front page and keep it so that is the only header in the entire document?

Thanks for the help.

A:Simple: Inputting Header/Footer into Word, displays on all pages.

Go to File>Page Setup and click the Layout tab. Check the box "Different first page." This makes the first page header different from the rest of that section.

You can also do what you want by inserting a Next Page section break somewhere on your first page, then unselecting "Same as Previous" for the second-page header.

When I print any webpage in IE10 in Windows 7, the footer contains a file path like file:///C:/Users/username/AppData/Local/Temp/Low/80S1TSTK.htm instead of the URL of the webpage I am printing. In the Page Setup settings of Print Preview I have chosen to print the URL in the footer. This started happening after I reinstalled Windows when my computer got infected.

I have tried the following but I still have the problem.

In my registry I went to the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\PageSetup and made sure the footer value is &u&b&d.

When above action did not fix it, I reset Internet Explorer ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737). The problem remains. It is still there after IE automatically updated to IE11.

Any help will be appreciated.

A:Footer of printed webpage shows local drive path instead of the webpage url

Look at the page setup in your printer options. Footer should be &u&b&d. If it is, some IE add-on you're using has created the problem.

Once the correct record number is entered in the parameter text box, the report is previewed and the user click on the print button to print the same.

Is there any method to find out the record i am going to print now was already printed before? A kind of record keeping for the printed records.

I keep getting a BSOD that I originally thought was down to Shockwave flash player trying to run twice, once in the browser and once from the computer. Disabled one, but I keep getting the BSOD. I've updated all drivers I can think of as being relevant, but no luck.
Hardware is around two years old, and this only happens when watching videos or playing flash games.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
Matt

Hi

I am using Window 7 Home Basic with Sony Vaio eh26. Everything was working fine.. But in last 15-20 days chrome has started showing unexpected behavior. Whenever I start Chrome it freezes the System. I can access websites in chrome browser, but the System freezes. I have to open up task manager and end the process. I found one solution, however. If I start Firefox or IE prior to launching Chrome then it works just fine. After Chrome is launched even if I close Firefox/IE it works fine..

What may the problem? It is driving me mad.. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it twice, disabled many extensions and I don't even have many extensions. Please help me if anyone knows the solution.

Thanks!

The OS is Win 8 Single Language (6.2.9200 Build 9200) x64.

Since the past few days, every time I start Firefox using Sandboxie, and then save a file from the net to the hard disk, this problem occurs wherein as soon as Sandboxie is supposed to give the Recover Files dialog box, everything vanishes and I get this screen with a sad smiley : ( and the messsage that your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart, and it collects some info, and also says the problem is Bad_Pool_Header. This happens just about every time I try to save a file to My Documents from within Sandboxed Firefox, so I started saving it to another drive like E:\. For some reason, Sandboxie has never given me the Recover Files dialog box when I save to another drive. Later, I go to the Sandboxie folder in C:\ and manually recover the file. However, this morning I got a BSOD even when saving a file to E:\.

I'm attaching the .zip file as mentioned in the BSOD Posting Instructions.

Some other info:

When I first searched for BSOD related info, I had come across another site:

How to Analyze a BSOD Crash Dump

I've also followed the instructions given there, and am attaching a text file as instructed there; might be of help.

Also, after the computer restarts from the BSOD, it gives this message where it shows the paths where the error files are located:

C:\Windows\Minidump\xxxx.dmp
C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\Temp\xxxx-sysdata.xml
C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP

So according to the dump file, the WinFLAdrv.sys caused the crash. This driver is related to the software titled "Folder Lock" from New Softwares. Kindly remove this driver and see if the problem still persists or not. Furthermore, the driver used by this software is very old.

I have 4 browsers on my computer: Internet Explorer 8, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera. I am trying to listen to some MP3 files on a website, and all of the browsers, except for IE 8, told me to download the Realplayer Plugin. So I did, and when I tried to listen to the MP3 file, Realplayer will automatically enable this "Autoupdate Helper" thing and check for updates. So I let it check for updates, but then it'll say "There are no updates..." and just stop there. The file won't play! I click play again, and the same thing happens.

Internet Explorer is the only browser smart enough to open the MP3 files on the web page using Quicktime (the website actually tells you to use Quicktime to open the files) but it doesn't load the Youtube videos that are embedded on the site. There's a X on the top left corner of the section where the video is suppose to be.

Now I'm stuck! I want to view all the contents on one page with one browser! But none of the browsers will actually work properly!

So the main problem is:

1. The MP3 files won't load in Chrome, Firefox, and Opera using Quicktime.

Chrome is the only browser I use frequently, and the others are basically backup. IS THERE ANY SOLUTION TO THIS!?!?!?

Thanks everyone!

Has anyone figured out chrome cookie control?

Seems like I can't get the browser to act the same way twice.
I'm trying Vanilla Cookie Manager out of desperation.

Seems like the only way I can avoid tracking cookies and still be logged on to some sites when I navigate there is to set all to Allow Local Data. Then go around and log in to a bunch of sites I use most. Then set cookies to Session Only. Then set LastPass to AutoLogin for the sites where the cookie doesn't work.

I can't seem to get any consistent behavior. It's really frustrating they haven't done anything about this stuff in 20 years!

A:chrome cookie control

Seems like Vanilla Cookie Manager does nothing good for me. I used it yesterday and today I was manually cleaning out about 40 tracking cookies. Back to my old method of using the built in Chromium white list.

Quite often when I'm typing the "t" key, a new tab opens. The "n" key also opens a new tab. The "i" key will change the font to italics. The "h" key opens history. This doesn't happen all the time, but once it starts, I'll get a new tab several times in a row, and then it's fine again. Nothing has spilled on the keyboard. I've tried the fix that I found on the google chrome website but that didn't help. The control key has been cleaned and the problem continues. Is the only fix a new keyboard?

A:sporadic control key in google chrome

Try a different keyboard and see if the problem persists. If it does not, it was the original keyboard. A key can "press itself" without being dirty/touched/cracked. Damage can cause that to happen, especially involving water. If it seems to be the original keyboard use a different one while the original dries out.

I've been trying to rid my computer of a nasty malware infection and I have finally turned to professional help.  Unwanted programs tilted: RelayRise, SystemEnterprise, SegmentAssister seemed to have dumped immovable crap everywhere which results in crazy pop-ups and extension modifications in Chrome amongst other things.  Please help!  Thanks!

A:Malware: AntiAdBlocker on Chrome, multiple files in Control Panel,ProgramFiles

In many cases these issues are the result of unwanted toolbars, add-ons/plug-ins, and browser extensions which come bundled with other free software (often without the knowledge or consent of the user). They can be the source of various issues and problems to include adware, pop-up ads, browser hijacking which may change your home page/search engine/search settings, and cause user profile corruption. As such they are generally classified as Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs) and many of them can be removed from within its program group Uninstall shortcut in Start Menu > All Programs or by using Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs) in Control Panel, so always check there first. With most adware/junkware it is strongly recommended to deal with it like a legitimate program and uninstall from Programs and Features or Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. In most cases, using the uninstaller of the adware not only removes it more effectively, but it also restores many changed configuration settings.Alternatively, you can use a third-party utility like Revo Uninstaller Free or Portable and follow these instructions for using it. Revo will do a more thorough job of searching for and removing related registry entries, files and folders. After uninstallation, then you can run specialized tools like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, AdwCleaner and JRT (Junkware Removal Tool) to fix any remaining entries they may find. These tools typically search for and remove related registry ... Read more

Someone asked me the other day, if Firefox was more secure than Google Chrome, and I honestly didn't know. So, I thought I'd ask you all about it. Is Firefox more secure than Google Chrome or are they about the same? I'd love to hear some thoughts on this, as I'm considering switching to Firefox for this reason.

A:Firefox or Chrome?

Oh wow, better stand back! The flack is going to fly!   That question will get a lot of responses from dedicated users.
Ok, I will start off. I have been using FireFox for years, so to be honest I am not that well acquainted with Chrome. I used it for a while but was not impressed and could not customize it as I wanted so I switched to FF and never looked back.
Firefox big attraction is its use of Add-ons. There are literally dozens to choose from, are free, and you can customize FF depending on what you want. So it can be locked down quite well for privacy and security. I won't go into all the different security features that it has, but in general add-ons can prevent virus infections through Java and Active X (which is a major source of infected websites and "drive-by" virus intrusions), tracking cookies that track you wherever you go and can be traced by businesses for marketing purposes, the infamous NID and PREF cookies that are on most computers (without the user's knowledge) that Google uses to track you individually and that the NSA uses for the same purpose including hacking in to a computer that has them, as well as useful tools.
It is easy to learn, takes minimal resources, and is supported by Mozilla organization which is not a big business that wants to throw ads at you but a dedicated organization of geeks.
I have put FF on  dozens of client's computers, installed security add-ons and they love it. In a nutshell those are my reasons, and in 15 years of... Read more

Why don't you just install them all configure them and then use as you would normally and then decide which one serves your surfing style the best. Frankly they're all down to personal preference. I prefer Firefox because of it's customization abilities. So it's really up to what you want in your browser and what you do online the most.

Usually caused download managers, add-ons, third party applications, antivirus programs that have browser add-ons, or scan as you search - free avast works 100% for me. Sometimes monitoring programs that enhanced internet speed. Check all your programs if they are suspect take them out of startup - type "msconfig.exe" in search select startup and deselect - disable all your add-ons that you think might be the problem - basically see if you can get the browsers to work then use the process of elimination. I know firefox works ok with IE8 - not sure if the 3 would work in harmony.

Maybe they just want to reduce the number of IE users. If someone is using Firefox, then they either:

A. Know enough about computers to know better then rely on what comes preinstalled with the OS
B. Have someone else who falls into option A, and they blindly followed advice given by said person

It's much easier to fight for market share if there is a relatively equal distribution. Firefox is proven as far as a Browser, while Chrome is still love it or hate it (I love both). Browser wars again?

How many times does this topic come up on the internet.
I have a question to - why is it that everyone these days is in such a
hurry that they can't wait an extra couple of seconds for their page/ mail
etc etc to load. Really? If your gonna compare one browser to another I think
the idea would be to look at what security features each offers - now that
is something I would be willing to spend some time looking at.

To answer your question - I dont know

This isn't a personal shot at your question, this is just me over

about a millisecond difference in computing power and or the

Hi. I use Windows Vista and I have an issue. I downloaded a program which obviously had some trash attached to it and this now turns my Chrome and Firefox home pages to Yahoo. All searches I run, even through Google, redirect to search results on Yahoo.

Whenever I open Chrome or Firefox I get a yahoo search page regardless of what my home pages are set to or what my default search engine is (it's google and I deleted all other search engines from that list).
I've checked add ins and disabled or deleted any that could be suspicious.
I've uninstalled a couple of programs that installed as part of me trying to install some free scanning software - which is obviously where this problem has come from.
I've tried two system restores (from two different restore points from over a week ago), both ran to the point of rebooting only to tell me it hadn't completed due to an unspecified error.
I've come across some program called "Spigot" on lots of searches across the net but I don't have that or any traces of it's name on my computer that I can tell.
Any help you can give would be much appreciated. I'm ran Malwarebytes and quarantined a load of stuff and that hasn't made any difference. I'm currently running ESET on line scanner. Please can you let me know what I should run next and it what order and what logs you need to see? Randomly, two weeks ago, between morning email check and again in the afternoon, Firefox and Chrome, and all other internet "connections (poker programs, window media player, etc)" stopped working, except for IE. There seems to be no clear explanation. I have tried everything that I could find on the internet: uninstalling firefox and reinstalling, changing proxys, making exceptions on the firewall, and sweeping for malware etc...but there is nothing. here are some more specifics that MAY help you help me...

Firefox:
The "tabs" continue to read "New Tab." If I type in an address and hit enter, it will think for a second, literally, and then do nothing. No error, no message. The address bar continues to read "go to a website" and the tab reads "New Tab," but there is no movement. It seems to "try" to connect for a moment, but then nothing. It doesn't get stuck, it just stops trying.

Chrome:
Chrome is a little different, it gives an error message; Error 137.

Safari:
Safari declares it can't connect to the internet, as does an online poker program, and other programs that use the internet.

BUT IE WORKS FINE! I am going out of my mind, and I will try anything, but please help. I am operating on Vista, and happy to give more info as needed...thanks!

I am saddened to have to say this but after so many years of being a FireFox advocate the latest version 4 release has vaulted me to Google Chrome.

The version 4 interface and the number of crashes I have encountered make FF no longer a viable solution for me.

I find Chrome to be much, much faster and the development of plugins especially Firebug and download manager support have erased any objections I have had in the past that have prevented me from making the switch.

I recall having the same reaction to IE5 when FF first arrived on the scene but, alas it is no longer the case.

Goodbye old friend you served me well for many years.

A:Goodbye FireFox, Hello Chrome

i love chrome too - i actually use a chinese modified version, chromeplus - can't really recommend it right now, as the new build is a bit buggy...

anyway, can't you keep on using the old version of firefox?

chrome brought around quite a bit of buzz mainly because it's blazing fast however i'm still sticking with firefox because i need the addons, i love the chrome skin though, and i stumbled across this great addon that does an almost perfect job of replicating the chrome look, there are a few glitches they need to iron out (maximizing covers the task bar), but for the most part,it works for me.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/8790

you could also try this theme which looks less like the real thing but does not have any issues with maximizing the browser:

I was fine a week ago. Haven't done anything except maybe an automatic upgrade on my machine. Can anyone help?

Yesterday, while I was browsing the internet with Firefox using Windows Vista Home Basic, I got a message saying "Internet Explorer has stopped working." with 2 options (either to "Search Online for a Solution and Restart the Program" or just "Close the Program").

I thought it was kind of odd at the time (since IE wasn't even open), but I just clicked "Close the Program." Less than an hour later, it happened again, so I clicked to "Search for a Solution," but as always, that didn't really accomplish anything.

Not long after the first two error messages, there was a pop-up in IE (even though I still didn't open it), and over the next few hours, I saw a steady flow of error messages and pop-ups (maybe one every 15-30 minutes). One time, I noticed that there was an IP address at the start of a url, but then it redirected to one of the normal pop-ups before I could copy/paste it. The next time it came up, I was faster, and a got the IP address (85.12.43.105) before it redirected.

I promptly google searched the IP address and found only 4 results, only 1 of which had to deal with viruses - this site. I've linked the specific thread below:

http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/801529-firefox-got-hijacked.html

His situation described mine almost perfectly, except that it was IE for me and Firefox for him. The redirecting url, the pop-up sites (most of which appeared to be related to whatev... Read more

A:IE and Firefox were hacked (but not Chrome?)

Update: The AVG finished about about an hour after I created this thread, and it turns out it found 12 viruses, then it did its auto-cleaning and placement of stuff in the virus vault. After restarting my computer, I was able to update Windows Defender, and it dealt with 1 more thing (which apparently AVG didn't deal with?). Since then, I've done some browsing of the internet on Firefox, and I have received no pop-ups or error messages, so I'm supposing the virus is either gone or unable to do anything now.

I can't say this same simple solution will work for the person with the similar problem, but I'd say it's worth a shot. Sorry for bothering you with a simple virus that even AVG could handle (with a little bit of help from Windows Defender at the end).

I suppose I'll mark this solved. Hopefully the problems never come back.

Five days ago and I just noticed...

Quote:
The Web Of Trust (WOT) add-on was removed silently by the popular web browsers Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox soon after it was reported on German media that the add-on ?Web Of Trust? collects and sells the browsing history of users to third-parties, without even bothering to anonymize the user data.

Mozilla spokesman said,?Mozilla removes browser extensions when we find that extensions violate our guidelines for add-ons. We received complaints about ?Web of Trust?, which are related to how transparent the add-on works.?
WOT is one of the most trusted and popular add-ons used by millions of users worldwide to check the safety ratings of the websites. German news site recently reported that the add-on is malicious and can remotely execute the arbitrary commands on any web page browsed by the users including privileged browser pages.

Ok, so my daughter started having trouble with my spare laptop while she was using it.  I just recently sat down and took a look at it and the problems were many.

First, it was really slow starting up and then when I tried to use Chrome it did a lot of spitting and sputtering then it Chrome finally decided the only thing it was going to do is switch to the "Aw Snap" page and not load anything.

So I installed Firefox and it worked fine for about a half an hour then it too started spitting and sputtering and telling me that "a scripted has stopped working...".

Download 4 All is on this laptop and I can't get it off.  Didn't know if that was what might have been causing the problem.  But I did a virus scan using my Avast Anti-virus.  Found nothing.  So I went to eset and did an online free scan.  Still nothing.

Then I ran a Malwarebytes scan (trial full version) and it found something called Whitesmoke.  Malwarebytes Quarentined it so I figured that would do it.  Nope.  And I can't seem to find the log of what Malwarebytes did.

So, I did an Emisoft Antimalware scan.  It found the following:

I've used FF since its initial beta but lately its become useless. I can't view videos from Wall Street Journal, certain sites lock up FF completely, YouTube buffers endlessly and I can't use KeyPass because the quickkey wanders all over the screen.

I began using Chrome just for these particular "features" but finally just stayed with Chrome. I'm not happy using Chrome, what with all the issues of Google privacy, but I don't browse or email anything controversial in the least. At least I hope that's the case.

Anyone else have similar problems?

Thanks,
Burt

A:Abandoned Firefox for Chrome

You might try disabling/uninstalling add-ons that you don't use, and even uninstalling/reinstalling firefox itself. I used firefox exclusively until IE9 came out and have stuck to it. It comes preinstalled and is just as good as any other browser despite claims to the contrary. I don't like installing needless things, but would prefer firefox to chrome, cause chrome is just ugly.

Several days ago, my computer froze and had several issues with drivers that I was able to fix in safe mode (with networking). I thought everything was fine, until I tried to use IE (ver. 9) and Firefox because a website I needed wasn't compatible with chrome. Anyway, no page would load, and it wouldn't even get to a point where it stopped loading. However, in safe mode, both firefox and IE work fine. Ran anti-malware and avast, no luck. I have posted my hijackthis file in this OP. Is it a proxy thing? Is it from my previous troubles? HELP.

I have enjoyed Firefox for some time now but tried out Google Chrome on a whim. I really liked it once I started figuring out how to arrange my bookmarks across the top of any page.
I found that it was almost what I was looking for, not quite, but almost.

Then I found SpeedDial in FireFox Add-ons and WOW! After half an hour of setting all my bookmarks up I started getting that deflated feeling again. It was close, just not close enough.

THE SOLUTION, Fast Dial for FireFox. It pops up as my home page, is fully customizable, has the option to create folders so I was able to create a link to a second and a third page of bookmarks, I was able to find logos/icons for more than half of my sites bookmarked and plain, yet attractive file icons for the rest. They let you change layout, page background color or image, size, bookmark background color or image or icon and you can assign icons from one thing to something unrelated without any problems. NOW WHEN I GET ONLINE ALL OF MY FAVORITES ARE AT MY FINGERTIPS IN A SLEEK FORMAT AND WITHOUT ALL THE CLUTTER OF A "MSN" HOMEPAGE OR THE BLINDING WHITE OF A "GOOGLE" HOME PAGE.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WILL DO IF THIS IS EVER DUMPED AS AN ADD-ON. CHECK IT OUT AND SEE FOR YOURSELF.

Humbly submitted by the easily pleased!

I can open firefox and chrome, but i scan open internet explorer. I did some research and i think i have some sort of virus. What should i do? What information do you need from me to fix this problem?Heres a new post about the same problem, except with the logs:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic466465.htmlEdit: Moved topic from Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs to the more appropriate forum, due to the absence of any malware logs included in the topic. ~ Animal

A:IE works, but not firefox or Chrome

Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the logs you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another Malware Removal Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Java won't run in IE9 but will run in Firefox and Chrome. When I go to Verify Java Version at Java.com in Firefox and Chrome they return Version 7 Update 9 but the test never returns a result in IE9. I uninstalled and reinstalled Java, Java add-ons are enabled. Security settings look ok.
Some sites return "An add-on for this website failed to run". Same sites in Firefox and Chrome work fine. Java games don't work in IE9 but same games play in Firefox and Chrome.
Any thought on where I can start looking?

Edit:
The site http://www.javatester.org/enabled.html says IE9 can't run Java while it says Firefox and Chrome can run Java.

A:java won't run in IE9, will run in Firefox and Chrome

Have you tried resetting IE9 Go tools in the upper right hand corner of your IE9 browser. Select internet options then the advanced tab down at the bottom click reset then reset again you should get a pop up box that will get three green check marks after that restart IE9 and test your Java. You will have to reset your home page if you do not use MSN as homepage,

1. I'm getting more crashes with Chrome than Firefox now, I think. Haven't counted, but that's how it seems.

2. Does Chrome screw up Firefox? I remember "Windows isn't done until Lotus won't run," i.e., Microsoft programming its OS so that competing office software would malfunction. My Firefox installation on one machine won't run Google Maps or Google Scholar at all; it just sits there. On the other machine (in a virtual machine), no problem.
