error message when opening emails

Q: error message when opening emails

Hello,

I'm trying to setup an email for a coworker and we're having trouble. Sending and receiving seem to work OK but then when we try to open emails by double-clicking on them, we get an error message along the lines of "Can't open the email. Contents can't be accessed. Need to open email online." (this isn't verbatim; I don't have the error message in front of me at the moment).

He's using Outlook 2002. The mail service is with Telus (Calgary, Alberta). The incoming mail server is imap.telus.net (I read somewhere that IMAP mail servers can have problems like this).

Logging onto the server online can be done, and works, but he'd much rather use Outlook as the online webmail is a "pain in the ***" (his words).

Can anybody help please?

A: error message when opening emails

Hi gib88,

From within Outlook click on the Tools menu > choose Send/Receive > Send/Receive Settings, and then Define Send/Receive Groups.
Choose the Edit button.
Click on your IMAP account in the left pane, and then under the Receive Mail Items section choose “Download complete items including attachments”.
You can alternately choose - Use custom behavior defined below - and choose only your Inbox - or the exact folders you want to download the full items to.

If you have a large amount of items in your Inbox - you may want to create sub folders - and customize Outlook to download specific folders.
That may save you from getting file corruption - and / or making Outlook slow to open.

Hope that works for you.

Hi All,

I hope I could find some assistance here.
We are running an exchange 2003 server, with windows 7 machines (not ideal I know).

That aside, I am getting a scripting error when opening emails from a single user. This error ONLY appears on one users computer.
So to clarify, this issue only pops up on one users computer, and only occurs when opening an email (even in preview) from another single user.

I have so far:
- Run a repair of office 2010 on the computer that displays the scripting error.
- Removed email signature from the senders computer, in case of problematic fonts (Even though to other users on the domain, this error does not occur when opening emails from this same sender.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and would be more than happy to provide more details as needed.

Thanks in advance all!!
Chris

Hi, I am getting this error when trying to sendand rec emails:

Sending' reported error (0x8004010F) : Outlook data file cannot be accessed.
I had changed the name of the folder where my pst files are but i then went and redirected them (i have 6 different pst files) to the new location and i can open up microsoft outlook OK and look at the data files fine and see all the emails etc so there is nothing wrong with the actual data files. I also went in and tested each email account and they appearto be all OK also, ie: they will send a test message and come up with NO errors.

So why will my emailsnot send and rec and please give me directions on how to fix this problem.

Hi guys, Something of a problem with my system. I'm running 98SE, IE6, McAfee VirusScan, AVG Free, Win Patrol amongst others.Until yesterday, all was fine. I was happy. Then I tried to download my emails from www.orange.co.uk. Impossible. Immediately I received the following message;Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop.orangehome.co.uk', Server: 'pop.orangehome.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0FContacted my ISP and checked connections, size of waiting emails, refreshed internet account, etc. All to no avail. They recommended I uninstall IE6, then reinstall it.I've tried this by going to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>Uninstall Internet Explorer 6However, when I switch on again IE6 is still on my machine. Can anyone help me get the thing off my PC?? Many thanks, in advance.CarolPS Forgot to say that I'm on net & downloading emails almost daily.

A:Error Message When Attempting To Download Emails Using Oe

You cannot uninstall IE as it is a part of the Windows operating system; I am not sure how IE would cause problems with another application. Apparently, you are getting this error message when attempting to use OExpress to connect and use the POP3 process.
Are you sure they didn't recommend reinstalling OE?

Well, just a simple quesion. My outlook sometimes shows that there are 4-5 unread email in inbox, in fact there is not email at all. If I check all (CTRL+A) and mark as read, it works meaning there is not unread email in inbox. It is bit weird because when I check via webmail, there is not unread email.
Thanks.

A:Outlook error: Unread emails message

In the navigation pane (the box on the left) click the plus sign next to Search Folders and the submenu should drop down. Select the Unread Mail folder. Does anything show up in there? So you're saying you have absolutely no mail in your inbox, read or unread?

Also, the webmail is separate than you outlook. What might have been read in outlook might not have using your webmail. And vise versa.

I am receiving multiple emails in Outlook Express, dial up, each message appearing day after day, both spam and legitimate. My inbox is always so full I rarely can completely download without getting the error message 0x800CCCoF. The messages are usually six to ten at a time. Deleting a message usually results in up to 12 identical messages in my deleted folder, so my deleted folder becomes extremely large as a result..

I often get this error message 0x800CCCoF while receiving mail. My ISP has given up and says they cannot help me.

Am running Windows XP home, dial up. Can someone please help me? Bill

A:Receiving multiple emails, also error message

0x800CCC0F is a connection dropped error message. There are things I do not know about your computer specs and also I have no idea what modem you have.

For the connection problem I would suggest that you find out what the make and model of your modem is and get a new updated modem driver for it..

For all of the emails you get and you say they seem to replicate themselves I think your computer is infected and would suggest running HijackThis right away or as soon as you can download it.

To download HJTsetup.exe To Download HijackThis go to the following: http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item5
Filename = 1137518044HJTsetup.exe
Save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialog boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialog.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialog box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit Edit then Select All then click Edit and then click Copy doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet....
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in... Read more

I had to restore my system yesterday and ever since then, my email is not working properly. When I first open the app, it pulls the email from the server and I can read them. However, any subsequent attempts for it to go out and retrieve email result in the following error message:

"Some errors occurred while processing the requested tasks. Please review the list of errors below for more details." -- but there is nothing in the details box.

If I close the Windows Mail app and re-open it, it will retrieve the email. But I have to keep closing and re-opening it for it to work.

I did try to upgrade to Windows Live but that brought on a whole slew of other issues so I gave up on that.

I am using Windows Vista Home Basic, 32-bit on a Toshiba Satellite laptop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

After lots of problem I have just had my Windows7 professionally reinstalled and am now in the process of installing my software. The Microsoft Office software is Ms Office with Frontpage. My list of programs confirms that this is the installed program and Frontpage can indeed be opened. When I try to open Excel, Word, Powerpoint etc I get a message that says"the feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the 'MS Office XP Professional with FrontPage' disk and click OK". When I do this nothing happens. I then click "Cancel" and Excel opens OK. It is not much more than a nuisance but how can I get rid of these error message?

I use a program called Juice to download Podcasts and today when I went to open it I got the message Error Occured See the Log File Crogram Files\Juice\Juiceexe.log

I'm guessing that it is a hidden file because when I went to Crogram Files\Juice there was no exe.log

How do I get to that file?

I just wanted to add that I figured out how to see the hidden files but that exe.log still doesn't show.

This has started happening the last couple weeks. When I click on my email I get this:
Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server: '127.0.0.1', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 5100, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90
Now this doesn't always happen, sometimes it connects, and opens right up. Then I can send, recieve and log off. Then maybe a couple hours later I click on and get this same message, I 'X' the message off and click on the send recieve button. Then I either get the same error message, or it may decide to open up, and then I get my mail. Or I may get the error 3 times before I finally get thru. This just started 2 weeks ago, and being this fickle is starting to annoy me. It's a two year old HP with 2 G of RAM and Vista. I can still go to Google online and go right to my email with no problem. Anybody else getting this?

It seemed to be playing up while I was installing because it would just keep repeating the same questions and not get to the actual installation. I closed down and once I rebooted, I received this message:
File/i386/biosinfo.inf could not be found. The error code is 18. Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.
I did that and had to reboot again. This time I got a message saying:

Hi, I am running Windows XP Home Edition V2002 SP3 on an ASUS Eee PC.

When I go into Windows Explorer I get a message "A program on your computer has corrupted your default search provider setting for internet explorer. Internet Explorer has reset this setting to your original search provider Google (www.google.com). Internet Explorer will now open search settings where you can change this setting or install more search providers".

Search settings screen opens, and confirms Google as the default search provider so I don't change anything here, just take the clause open and it continues into Explorer login. However EVERY time I go into Explorer I get the above sequence of messages/actions, so the re-setting is not taking effect permanently.

Can anyone advise how to overcome this please?

Thanks

Not sure if this is the correct forum or not, but when I try to open some .jpeg files, I sometimes (key word "sometimes") get the following error message:

"Microsoft Internet Explorer

I have to click on the "OK" approx. 10 consecutive times before the error message goes away and then seems nothing is affected. Strange thing is that I can try to re-open the same file and it may open or I may get the same error message again. I'm using an older program to view photos and pics (MGI Photosuite III) but I like it, it's easy and has everything I need. First and foremost about this, have you scanned your computer for Any sort of malware before / after doing this download as it may be infected, Just a thought

Secondly, what type of program are you trying to download, if its a simple program such as an AV , or a free game or something like that, from a trusted site, it should not be giving you an error such as that

if its an older exe file maybe it just won't work with your xp, Just a couple of thoughts to toss out there

Talking about missing .dll files and my programs in taskbar would give me an error message as they loaded up on start up. Every time I try to open a Microsoft Office Standard 2010 document I get the message "Please Wait While Windows Configures Microsoft Office Standard" and it then displays a progress bar as it goes through its machinations. This never used to happen. It started when I foolishly tried to install an outdated program, Microsoft Front Page. I have long since um-installed Front Page, but nevertheless this annoying error message and progress bar still appears every time. Is there any way to repair this?

Thanks for any and all replies!

Hi Guys,

This pop-up window started to appear when pressing the button 'New FAX'. Second line goes on to say: Specified procedure could not be found.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to even start to look at where or why this problem is suddenly occurring? This seems to have started after a critical update but I can't be certain. I couldn't roll back to an earlier restore point as it only saves the last two or three (on every boot-up?) so there wasn't one earlier enough to try.

Thanks.

It was working totally fine, but now everything I want to open or everytime i want to open a program or file an error message comes up saying," this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set associations file." It shows up for every thing i try opening.Im not very good with computers I mean knowledge wise so i have no idea what this is and what to do about it. Also a few days ago I noticed a mysterious account that just decided to show up on my login screen. I thought one of my family members made it but then i asked and they all said it wasnt theirs. It was a limited account. I deleted it. I wonder if it has anything to do with my issue. Please help me and respond asap. Thank you very very much.

I'm trying to set up a second email profile on a PC which already has a profile set up. The new profile needs to be password protected, ie. anyone who logs on to the PC using the default profile should not have access to the second mail profile without an additional password (if that makes sense).
Both profiles use exchange accounts. I've selected the 'Prompt for a profile to be used' option. However when I select the second profile I get the following error message:

Unable to open your default e-mail folders. You do not have permission to log on.

I'm assuming that this is because it is trying to use the Windows logon username and password to access the second profile. Is there any way to get Outlook to prompt for a password when accessing the new mail profile?

I am running windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Whenever I try open outlook or anything in office 2003 I receive the following error message: please wait while windows configures microsoft office single image 2003.

The above error message is an identical message sent to this Forum by "drumstik59" but was for Office 2010 instead of Office 2003.

This was solved by the reply given by "Irene" which is :-

"..paste the following commands one at a time and press ENTER.

reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0 \Access\Options /vNoReReg/tREG_DWORD/d 1 "

As I have the same error message with MS Office 2003 but have "\11.0\" in the script instead of "\14.0\" would this solution also apply to Office 2003 ?

A:Receiving error message when opening office 2003

Well, version 11.0 applies to Microsoft Office 2003, so it's certainly worth a try.

When I attempt to open an Excel file using Excel 2003, the following error message occurs:

"this file is not in a recognizable format" etc...

Why does this occur, and how can I open the file successfully?

A:Solved: Excel 2003 - error message when opening file

Check the file extension. Am sure it has an extension ".xlsx" which means that the file was created using microsoft office 2007 excel or higher. This is why your computer does not recognize the extension of the file. the 2003 version of excel can only open files with the extension ".xls". The solution to this is to get microsoft office 2007 or higher version and install it or got the following link and download Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack and install it. it will enable you to open the file without having to install the office 2007 which may not be fit for your machine specifications.

Hello,

As mentioned in the title, I've recently encountered problems while opening the folder in which I download files to. What's different from what I've experienced in the past, is that this error doesn't pop up for any other drive/folder but this specific part of the directory. So I'm wondering is it possible to cut the files to a new folder and delete/avoid this folder? Or are my problems greater than something as simple as this?

Background info:
While attempting to upgrade the expansion for WoW: Burning Crusade, I wasn't able to more or less for the fact that my original drive that came with the computer (dell 2001) is starting to fall apart. ie. corrupt file packets I believe it was. This folder is in the same hard drive, so it just possible that the hard drive is going to randomly do this until it completely malfunctions? Or have I downloaded malware of some sort that was never detected? I've run ad-aware, S&D, Anti-Trojan, Symantec AV multiples times making sure to do updates before each scan, but nothing has come up.

If you could please give me some ideas as to how to fix this problem, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Hi,
I've been having a problem since upgrading to XP a few months ago. About 75% of the times that I open up "my pictures" in "my documents" (where I store lots of my digital photos) I get the error message where it asks you if you want to send an error report. Whether I choose to or not, or even if I simply shut the message, "my pictures" closes and I therefore cannot access the folder. The other 25% of the time it opens fine.

As I say, it's just photos and short videos stored in here, all taken by my own digital camera. Virus and other problem checkers haven't detected anything, and there's no reason to suspect these files are infected with anything.

Does anyone know what could be causing this and how to get around it? Thanks

Recently I have been having trouble opening emails that contain the attachment .PPS. I have IE 7 installed and use Incredimail. I just started to have problems. When I open the email, the windows installer pops up and then it asks for my 25 digit code for Microsoft office. When I enter the code, it tells me it is incorrect. I have searched my files and reinstalled office but keep getting this problem. Is there something in IE7 that may be blocking me from opening these emails? or am I missing something here. There are times I get a box to browse for the file HQ_002 but I cannot find that either. So what ,if anything can I do to correct this problem?
Thanks in advance.
Anna

I have a Sony Vaio laptop (using Windows 7) which has recently developed an odd fault. When I click on a specific email in order to delete it, the email below it will also be deleted at the same time. Also, when clicking on an email to open it, it will often keep opening it without actually displaying it on the screen, rather it just minimises them at the bottom. I have searched through the computer settings to see if I might have accidentally changed something to cause these problems but have found nothing. Can you help me sort this out, as it is time-consuming and frustrating to deal with! Thanks.

Hi everyone,
I notice that in my emails the more I click on"report phishing",the more of those darn messages seem to flood my inbox and spam.As a novice and from being here at BC from the very start of my computer journey I do know not to EVER open any unfamiliar attachments,as a matter of fact I don't even open attachments that come from someone I do know, for fear they may have inadverdently sent me something that they are unaware that has something malicious bundled on to it(I may be a bit paranoid?)
So,my question is...by simply opening an unfamiliar email or one from an advertisor, can this cause any problems or is it a way they can infect you? Thanks to Quietman I believe I have more than sufficient antispyware, antimalware and firewall protection.I use Windows XP and have hotmail as well as gmail.
Thanks for any information you may have for me,it is greatly appreciated

A:Is there danger in just opening emails?

99% of e mails are safe, the danger lies in attachments. Don't open when you don't know from where it came. Think this way, if I didn't have email I wouldn't be getting this anyway, so I really don't need to see it.
Other danger lies in downloading programs or music or etc.

Hope you can help. When I receive a new email, it`s only displaying who the sender is and when I go to highlight the details, they won`t appear when I click on this:

I recently downloaded windows 10. Will this have been the cause? I was able to click on the blue display word before and the full email would appear, but now isn`t? It`s a Synacor email account not my Outlook one.

A:emails not fully opening?

It`s okay, I managed to solve this. When I open my Synacor email account, there is an additional icon at the top of the page. When I click on it, a drop down box appears and states that the email content is blocked. So I just had to click un-block the content to view it. Silly me....this Windows 10 is giving me plenty to do!

Everyday for the last couple days, Outlook will suddenly open a new message with a To: address filled in for some website (looks like a consumer site), but no body and just stays open and doesn't send. I know it's been compromised, but Avira, Ad-Aware, Spyware Doctor and RegCure don't fix it. Also, no matter how many times I run these programs, they always find something new to get rid of, several times a day, like something their not catching is reinstalling bad stuff. Any help please?

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I do not know if this is the right forum I need to be using. If not, can you direct me to the right forum that would be great. Here is my problem.

I have an aol free account that I use for my emails. I can get to the page where it tells you that you have new mail. When I try and open the mail it comes up with page error. Since I do not pay for aol I can not talk to a live person.

This is the error message I get:

Aol can not open message. Error on page

Line: 316

char: 2

error: Object doesn't support this property or method.

code: 0

url: http://webmail.aol.com?24126/aim.en-...ssagelist.aspx

I don't know if it is my computer or Aol problem. I had asked my husband to transfer those emails to my yahoo account while he was at work and he got the samething. Page error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Nancy

Hello and Welcome to TSF

IMO, if your husband got the same error, then it would be 1 of 2 things, your using the wrong username/password, or it is on AOL's end.
Are you both using the same IE version ?

I have XP prof with outlook exp 6. I get frequent emails from friends containing attachments that I can't open. EML is a common one. I guess this is because of a security setting but I find it frustrating not being able to look at them. Granted they are always jokes, but they are usually funny.

How do I do this?

Hi' All,
I am asking this question for a friend. She has I.E.7 & O.E. 6. SP2 running XP Home.
My friend can't open emails in O.E. I tried to help as I thought she may have a currupt inbox so I deleted that by finding the store folder and looking for the inbox where it said. I deleted it and rebooted but didn't fix the problem. The inbox came back.
Before that I tried the maintenance tab under tools, and was going to compact her folders but they were not listed, only her newsgroups.
I've been searching google and came accross something about .dll files so I followed those instructions to see if she had them.
Run: regsvr32 urlmon.dll that was okay
regsvr32 mshtml.dll module not found
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll tha was okay
regsvr32 browseui.dll module not found
regsvr32 msjava.dll that was okay

Could you please tell me if I should install those 2 .dll's into the registry, would that fix her problem, if so do I go to edit and new in the registry and type those 2 entries into registry, or should I try something else, floundering here as at a lost to help her.
Many thanks,
Josey.

Hi everyone, this morning I began getting this warning when I opened outlook, I've never seen it before and can't work out why its started happening, I did get an update yesterday from Microsoft, I'm running XP, does anyone know what I should do about this warning?

A:Strange new pop up warning when opening my emails.

OK Its stopped doing it now, I just recieved another email and the warning didn't pop up, whereas it popped up on the previous three, but they were all from the same sender so I guess its only related to that senders emails somehow.

So I'm wondering if this is true or not, I use hotmail/outlook email, and alot of spam emails have images, and I've heard a sender can get your ip just by you opening their messages, is this true?

A:Opening emails with pictures gives the sender your IP?

If the pictures are accessed online (meaning you didn't dowload them as attachments) then definitely yes. But that's not the main problem...

When accessing online pictures in an email, it confirms to whoevers hosts the pictures that this specific email has been opened, this usually results in even more spam mails being sent to your email adress. Those kind of pictures can be hidden and as small as a pixel to prevent you noticing them.

You should check that your email reader has either disable images or disable html checked to prevent that.

I hate tabs! Since the great infection (all cleared up now thanks to the fine folks at Bleeping Computer) when I open a link from inside an email it appends itself, as a tab to an existing open web page.

What can I do, where can I go to get these links to open in a new window?

I might add that I can open up successive browsers and they all open in new windows.

A:Links from Emails opening in Tabs

You need to disable tabbed browsing in your web browser.http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows...asked-questionshttp://www.trishtech.com/internet/stop_tab..._in_firefox.php

i have a second older computer that is on its last legs becuase someone dropped the computer and the motherboard is cracked, however i can still get on the internet.

so before the computer goes completely dead, i 'for the fun of it'(get ready ), delibrately OPEN suspicious emails. Not the porno ones, but the suspicious ones like say from Vietnam,China, etc. that have no message content,ie you open them up and there is no message. Or the emails with no name or no message

i have the usually adaware, antivirus, sybot, hijack this, firewall, etc, running on the computer but never the less i wonder how things, viruses, etc could still get though to my computer. i keep no sensitive info on the computer and if i get a massive virus that cripples the computer. i just open suspecious emails on my yahoo(junk) email accounts too.
so my question is 'when one opens suspecious emails, what else besides hijack stuff ,adware,or virus stuff can get though.

PS i do not understand the term "script" although i have read the definition multiple times.

I have Office XP. I am getting emails from some people that have Outlook 2003. These emails come in Unicode and I cannot read them. It gives you an error saying that you need Outlook 2003 or higher to open them. Is there a way to view them in 2002? Or is there a really simple program or way to open them outside of Outlook?

I have resorted to using 2007 Beta (on my test box) to open them and save them as non-unicode. Any easier ideas? I have tried a few programs but just too much of a pain...

I am using a PC that I inherited from a work colleague.

I'm using OE6 and Windows XP.

The original problem was as follows;

when someone forwards an email as an attachment, when trying to open it it brought up an error message. I think along the lines of "couldnt open a temp Internet files/ folder?" Opening all other attachments was/is fine.

I poked around and changed EML in Config panel>Folder options from Windows Live to Outlook Express.

Now when I open an attached forward email all that happens is that my OE opens. I no longer get the error message.

Having quizzed my colleague he now tells me he did the following which caused the original problem...

He removed Windows Mail because attached forwarded emails were opening in WM not OE which he didnt want. Apparently when he did that it caused the error to start. So he re-installed WM and then (and this is the worrying bit) "did something with the OE program to make it open email"

Not sure what he means here but it's my suspicion that whatever he did means that although OE is now the default for EML when its being called up its not actually doing anything, just launching OE.

All other aspects of using OE are fine.

Any solutions please? It's driving me mad !!

Phil

My wife's PC running XP with Outlook 2000 has become very slow at opening and closing emails in the last couple of weeks. The email windows hang and break up on closing, like there is a memory issue or something else going on. All other programs run well---PC has 1.5 MG ram and runs Norton 2007 antivirus and superantisptware programs. Uninstalled and then reinstalled Norton and Superantipsyware to see if they caused it, but same problem. I have posted a hijack log in Security forum to see if that may be an issue. Just wondering if any thoughts in this Forum regarding what might be slowing things down. Are there any add-ins or similar things in Outlook 2000 that can be unchecked like in Outlook 2007?
Thanks.

See if this applies to your problem:

You may need to add the sender to your safe senders list.
