Mini web page STUCK on desktop...remove??

Q: Mini web page STUCK on desktop...remove??

I was in a webpage and chose FILE-SAVE AS to save the link to a file in My Documents. I ended up with a 2"X3" 'mini-webpage' that is STUCK on my desktop.

I went to the My Documents file and removed the actual link.

The 'mini-webpage' remains on my desktop. I cannot move it, hide it or otherwize affect its existance. However, all the links within the 'mini-webpage' work.

Any suggestions re: removal of this pesky problem?

A: Mini web page STUCK on desktop...remove??

It depends quite a bit on what operating system you use.

Hi Everyone,

I had a virus that deleted all my desktop icons & start menu shortcuts which was pretending to be an anti-virus program that said I had loads of viruses and I had to pay to get them removed (paying the program). I followed steps from different websites to remove the virus in safe mode (rkill Mbam and a few others) then when I rebooted normally, the computer loaded up and seemed to work for about 10 seconds, then all the pop ups kicked back in and all my desktop icons disappeared again. I shut it down & now when I load it up I can still get into safe mode no problem but loading up normally, it gets stuck on the 'loading windows' screen...(the icon keeps flashing but it never goes past that page)

I have this laptop for about five months.

At first everything was working fine. But suddenly a problem appeared with the loading of the screen battery, no matter how long I charge it, it stays stuck at 80 percent. So I can only get 40% overall battery now...

Since one of the main reasons I bought this laptop was its long battery life, this is a big problem for me...

If anyone could suggest any fixes for this, it would be much appreciated!

I have found myself in a rather unusual situation here. I have a good, working laptop and a good, working SSD. They just hate each other.

I have a HP Mini 210-1000. Yesterday I replaced the stock HDD(Seagate Momentus 320GB) of this laptop with a SSD(Corsair Nova 60GB) and replaced the 1GB RAM with a 2 GB DDR2 RAM.

Now I started installing a 32bit Windows 7 Ultimate from a pen drive. It went smoothly. It restarted a few times. Finally got stuck on "Setup is preparing your computer for first use" screen. Stayed there for an hour and then I shut it down.

Then I tried installing 64 bit ultimate, 32 and 64 bit home basic with same results.

Then I updated the bios to the latest version.

I popped in a regular hdd with windows on it and it booted up fine.

Popped in a different samsung ssd with windows on it and it booted up fine.

I ran the setup in repair mode several times but to no avail.

Then I put the said Corsair SSD in a different laptop. It booted fine. I created user accounts and stuff and tried putting it back in the Mini. That didnt work either. I got the windows animation followed by a blank screen with a mouse pointer in the center. Nothing else.

It's midnight here and I am at my wit's end here.
Can anyone help?

A:I am stuck in installing win7 on HP Mini, weird SSD problem.

Why are you trying to install a bunch of different versions of Win7, when they are all the exact same OS's with some expensive features that can be unlocked? Which version do you own, which is printed on the COA sticker on bottom of laptop? That's the one you need.

Where did you get the ISO file and how it is it burned to disk? Refer to step 1 in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 for how to confirm and correctly burn the media.

Then work through the steps to Windows 7 Installation Failure - Overcome. Any chance it has an EFI BIOS?

I have a hp mini 110-3000 running winxp. After google update on 2/5/15 browser starting freezing and when I updated java it said a file using java needed to be closed first (file listed; iqs.exe which internet search said was worm but avg didn't find) Virus program up to date, ran full scan, tried running disk clean up, it said windows restore and Roxio data recovery were both running and to stop Roxio which I did since I never installed it. Browser still freezing up so tried using windows restore to restore it back to a restore point two weeks back to resolve the malware problem as advised on help site. I clicked the restore date, computer screen said was backing up files, shut down, then looked like it was restarting but after winxp black screen it flashed a blue error screen and went to a black startup options screen. Have tried every option and they all come right back to the startup options screen. Tried F8 and ran the primary hard drive self test both quick and full passed 100%. Hard disk passed SMART passed start-up test. Memory test passed 100%. Everything I try just stops at the startup screen. I don't have any disks as the computer was purchased at a pawn shop a couple years ago. Factory restore is not an option unless I can recover my data first. How can I undo the restore process that caused this since even restore and last good configuration looped back to the black options page? If I create a boot usb drive to start it would that cause more problems?

A:hp mini, winxp, tried using win restore, it stopped at startup options black page

Something has gone wrong with the restore process. You'll need a Windows XP installation CD to repair the process.

I built this computer a little over a year ago so i dunno why this is happening now...

When i open counter-strike and start playing, things seem fine, but then after 10 - 20 minutes of playing the game just freezes. Sometimes i get a BSOD, but sometimes i can just alt+F4 out and restart the game.

I almost always get a page fault in non-paged area and it gives me n4_disp.dll

Ive read the sticky and ran memtest+
I couldnt get past 70% after running the test twice for some reason...

here are 2 screenshots:

My system specs are:

2 x 512 PQI ram DDR400
250GB SATAII hd
NVIDIA Geforce 7600 GT
My mobo is an ASRock dual but i forgot which one...
i have a 400W FSP PSU...

anything else ive forgotten?

THANKS A LOT GUYS!!!!

I'd like to build one of these, small enough to fit in a small-ish suitcase. I want a gaming machine, so I'd like it to be able to have these specs: A quad-core cpu, up to 4 GB memory, a 1 GB PCI-E video card, at least a 500 watt power supply, dvd player, 500 GB hard drive.

Anyone with any experience with something like this? I've built several of my own desktops, but never a mini, so this is new to me.

Thanks,
Harold

A:Mini-Desktop

I found the "GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard" on Newegg, it has excellent reviews and seems to have what I need. I've found some excellent mini-cases, but the largest ps is 350 watts. Is this a regular-sized ps, so I could just put in my own 500 watt?

Thanks,
Harold

Dremel (or other fine rotary tool) & a drill bit. This might be your only option if the screws are stripped, and it may not be sound advice, but it should do the trick.

There is, of course, a chance you could drill into the motherboard and ruin the computer. Your choice; your risk.

Ok. I've always maintained that the secret to the Internet is humbling one's self and asking for help from those who have been there or are there.
Well here i am. Bought a Sony Vaio VGN- SZ330P 2nd hand that already had Windows 7 "upgraded". Encountered BSOD when playing "big media". Usually when trying to watch something on Media Player Classic. But also when trying to set up Itunes or doing something that requires a lot of... computing?

I uploaded a bunch of attachments - i think it's what someone would want to see in order to help me

ok Here's the system info and minidump i think you requested. Excellent tip by the way with the "send to zipped folder" advice. i have tried to solve this problem for a couple weeks always thinking it was a missing or outdated driver. it's suggested that i need a new graphics card but i don't do any online gaming and rarely watch movies on my VAIO. The screen looks awesome and the computer runs great except for this problem.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP
We could also use some system information, which you can get easily by running msinfo32.
To do that go to start>run>type msinfo32>enter

When it is finished running go to file>save>name it and upload to us here.
You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).

I have a very small Asus desktop PC that only uses about 30 watts of electricity. It's supply voltage is 24VDC which it receives from a 24VDC power supply on the piece of equipment it is installed in. I want to add a battery to it so that when this machine is shutdown and power is removed abruptly from the PC it can shutdown gently. I am having no luck finding an off the shelf UPS so I was hoping to add a battery pack (LIKE THIS: http://www.bixmart.com/BiXPower-BP160--19V-12V-Rechargeable-Battery-Power-Bank-Pack_p_109.html) and trick the PC into thinking its a laptop. Does anyone know how this might be accomplished?

Hello. I have an HP Stream Mini Desktop 200-010 that will not power on again after it turned itself off while it was idle.  No power light, no fan movement, no beep codes. Things I already tried: 1. I replaced the original AC power adapter with a new one. It still does not power on so we can probably rule out a defective AC adapter brick and cable. 2. Held down the power button with the AC cable and other cables unplugged from the computer to discharge the power as stated on the HP support page. It did not fix it. 3. Opened the computer up and checked all the cables inside. This is not quite like a traditional desktop PC, so the only cables I saw in there were to connect the WLAN/Bluetooth card to the antenna on the top and a small cable for the speaker for beep codes. 4. Tried 3different power outlets around the house so a faulty power outlet shouldn't be the case. Is there any other troubleshooting I can try to fix this problem? It is already outside of the 1 year warranty. Normally I would know what to do to fix a problem if it could actually power on but I feel so helpless when it can't even power on to give me beep codes or anything to work with. Thank you in advance!

After a few hours with it, though I am still setting it up... I don't see what ALL the hate is about. Some hate, sure... but it is certainly not as bad as Vista was since its actually a bit faster than Win 7 and can use Win 7 drivers so hardware compatibility isn't that big a deal. The hate is really all about the UI and of course the writing on the wall about where the OS is going.

The main problem I see is that it is really 2 OSes cobbled into one. And MS did not do a good job explaining the differences.

The start menu is replaced by the tiles interface and Windows RT OS UI (ie. the tablet OS, ie. the Xbox360 UI)

However there is a desktop tile. Hit that and you are basically back in Win7 OS land, minus the start menu. In its place is an icon that takes you back to tiles. You can right click it and get a very handy menu though. I think you can even default Win8 to logging right into the desktop tile somehow so you never have to see the tiles if you don't want to. If anyone knows how to do this, I would be glad to know.

The other big stumbling block is understanding the difference between Apps (capital A apps) and desktop applications aka legacy apps.

Starting with the desktop, its the same Win7 desktop we all know and love. It is traditional multitasking and multi-threaded and does its thing with desktop programs, services, steams games, etc. but there are also capital A Apps. I think of them like the old widgets. A:My Mini Win 8 Review as a desktop user

Rich, ( are you a drummer? )

The issue that thinking people have is not to do with the UI itself.

It is more about the direction MS is moving with win8 - taking away control and choice from the user and pushing them way MS wants them to go.

To someone who only clicks/jabs at the screen and does basic things like browsing, emailing, going on twitbook, etc - they won't notice.

Therefore it is easy for MS to lead them where MS wants them to go - and that is not a good place.

I have imaged an 800 G1 DM via SCCM with drivers - the keyboard and mouse work fine when I boot into Windows 7 for the first time. However when I image any 800 G2 with the same image and the 800 G2 drivers the keyboard and mouse do not respond in any port. Both machines have only USB 3 ports and I can see the driver files for USB3 and the KB / mouse when I connect the HDD to another machine. They do not work in safe mode either. The KB/mouse do work in the BIOS and during the initial SCCM imaging process. What could be causing this and how can I fix it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,Mark

I have a ProDesk 400 G2 Desktop Mini with an i7-6700T which I am trying to get to work with Intel AMT. But I?m not completely sure if this works since there?s a Realtek NIC and not an Intel one.According to the manual there should be an option to configure Intel AMT in the BIOS, but it?s not there. Also there?s no ?Press <ctrl-p> to configure to enter MEBx setup? or similar after BIOS post. The BIOS shows the following information: System BIOS:          N23 Ver. 02.09 08/07/2016ME Firmware Version:  11.0.0.1205 I can?t seem to find information about what the hardware requirements for Intel AMT are, besides vPro. The PCU supports vPro, but I?m starting to think that the Realtek NIC isn?t compatible. Can someone please enlighten me?

....well kind of. I've been looking through threads to see if I can come up with an answer to my question but no luck. I'll try as best I can to describe what's happening to me.

Ok, using IE7 in Vista and I generally use Google. Since december 2008 certain random websites will not load at all. Sometimes I get a new tab and a blank page. Sometimes I get an Internet Connection message that says I have lost my connection, but this is not the case. Most often I do a search (for a favourite subject) and get my search list; when I click on a link the page blinks and stays on the search list page. I can't go to that site. SOMETIMES even the searches don't take place and I'm just stuck at Google or Ask or whatever.

I have completed all of the usual fixes, emptying out my cache etc but this seems to make no difference. Although something that I was unable to search for just after Christmas is now accessible to me, and new inaccessible searches happen when I search for something more than once.

Also have Firefox and Safari but the same thing happens in each browser and with different search engines.

I'm stumped. And please be aware that any answers you may give will have to be tailored to my non-techie brain please, Answers for Dummies if you will

My son is using an old computer of mine with windows xp. At the moment we can't get past the 'welcome' page. If I click on the user name or administrator it says 'saving your settings'...and then 'logging off' or 'closing your network connections' and we just go round in circles and never get beyond the welcom page. I've tried starting in safe mode and it's exactly the same. I have no idea what to do next and would be grateful for any advice. Thanks very much.

What browser are you using? Firefox or IE? and what version?

You might wanna try optimizing your browser like deleting the cookies, temp files, history, cache, restore default settings.

check add-ons and disable all unnecessary add-ons you have that might slow down or might cause some problems with IE.

I have 3 questions: 1) eventhough its considered an empresarial product there isnt any problem in using it residencialy right? 2) i see the connection of the monitor is only by USB, but i have the DP port in the mini desktop free. Is there an HP cable to connect this monitor USB through the DP port without wasting any of the usb ports? 3) my preference would be for a portable monitor for the mini desktop that when disconnected worked as a tablet. Is there such a product in HPs portfolio? ThanksHugo Silva

Can someone confirm or deny that the EliteDesk 705 G1 desktop mini supports NVMe M.2 drives?  I've seen mention that the 800 G1 systems support NVMe drives, but not the 705 series. The quickspecs for this DM says that the M.2 is PCIe X4, but not whether the BIOS supports NVMe. (The 705 G2 DM specs clearly indicate this. I wish the 705 G1 DM specs were a little clearer.)

Power down PC...while it off remove USB wifi adapter....power on PC. When PC has finished booting up, search in the uninstall programs list for any software related Netgear and uninstall it. Reboot and start the process again.

According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.

Hello:

First of all, thank you for your time in reading this post.

Question one: I have an HP Mini Netbook and was fortunate to have welcomed the Anti-virus Action infection, what a lovely experience. I have removed viruses before so I had Malwarebytes Anti-Malware on my desktop. Once the infection was confirmed, I rebooted in Safe Mode with Networking then ran Anti-Malware. The scan resulted in a few various infections which I removed. Then, it rebooted and I then ran another scan. Mid-scan, the computer shut down then rebooted. However, Windows is entirely unable to boot. It boots up then arrives to the screen where only options are enter F9 (boot device order) or F10 (BIOS). And if I do not select one of these two only options quickly it moves on to a blank black screen with a blinking "_" in the top upper left-hand corner, and there it stays. The hard drive must have been compromised or registry files damaged, you would know better than I based on the info I've given.

Trouble-shooting: I am able to hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and this reboots but just arrives to the same point. I can go into F9 or F10 but am unsure what actions to perform or configuration adjustments to help correct. Windows never boots.

My thoughts: some quick research online leads me to believe that I will need to reinstall Windows XP. So having a netbook I would need to get a CD drive connectable via USB, and I should purchase a Windows XP OS install disc, then take it from there.... Read more

Create a folder on your hard drive for Hijackthis, like My Documents\HJT
Click on this link http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe and save the file into the folder you have created.
Unzip the file to the folder.
Scan your machine, then click on Save Log.

Please follow these steps in order to clean your computer of Malware which can include Viruses, Trojans, Worms, Spyware, Hijackers and Dialers.

Step 1:
Download Spybot and Adaware from the following locations and install them. You should run both programs and clean up what it finds. This is to gaurantee that you find the most malware you can installed on your computer.

A:Getting stuck at HP Registration page

My only question is, why would anyone want to "register" the purchase with HP?

It is not a compulsory step, it just gives them the opportunity to include you on a multitude of email lists trying to sell you everything.

I never register anything, it is entirely voluntary.

If the PC works OK otherwise it is more likely that the problem is with the HP website.

Hi,

Whenever I open Internet Explorer, it goes to en.V9.com as the homepage , my homepage has always been Yahoo.com.
I uninstalled everything that I installed on 6/1/13 (from the Programs and Features in my Control Panel). The Homepage in the Internet Options has been change to yahoo , then it still did not work. Changed it to google---still did not work, still goes back to V9. I also disabled this from Tools>Manage add-ons.
I have McAfee with real-time scanning, which I also did a full scan yesterday and this morning, it says no threat detected (or something like that)
When I restarted my computer, it still goes back to this V9 as my homepage.

Please, please help.

Hi, I have a kiosk PC that is looking pretty good however I have two outstanding issues.

The users can still right click on applications on the taskbar and receive a context menu even though I've disabled the context menu in the group policy editor.
User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Start Menu and Taskbar/Remove access to the context menus for the taskbar - Enabled

And I can't figure out how to remove the "show desktop" icon in the systems notification tray.

Thanks in advance for any help
Megan Armstrong.

A:Windows 7 Restricted User - Remove Right click on taskbar icons; Remove show desktop icon

Hello Megan,

Hope you're doing fine.

Disabling context menu from application on the taskbar
Please note the task bar context menu for any application for windows 7 is sub-divided into two sections :

   a. Jumplist(to access recently opened files)
   b. Creating a new instance of the application, Pin/Unpin, Close window

We can only disable the Jump List of the Taskbar context menu but not the "new instance creation, Pin/Unpin, close window"

Please follow the steps below to disable jump list:
1. Right-click on the Taskbar and then select Properties.
2. Click on the Start Menu tab and uncheck "Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar".
3. Click OK.

Disabling Show Desktop from the system tray
Regarding the requirement of disabling the "Show Desktop" button alltogether from the System tray, this is by design.

There are no ways to remove it. All we can do is to disable aero peek at Taskbar properties by right clicking and uncheck the option "Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop".
There's a third party software which addresses this sopecific purpose but I'm not pretty sure if this works perfectly for Windows 7 SP1 as well. Please refer to the link below.

(If you do not see the above screen, choose to start normally ... and then immediately press the F8 key, and hopefully you will see the screen shown in the above image.)Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to select "Disable automatic restart on system failure" and press the <ENTER> key.Your system will attempt to start normally, but when it crashes, it will not re-start: Instead, you will see a BSOD with error message.
Record the error message details, and post in this thread.

Hi,

So my laptop is fairly new bought in Feb but rarely used. I was using it often during the summer time and had no problems. One day, I received an error message (blue screen of death). Wasn't sure why. So I restarted my laptop to find that I could not login. Everything seemed fine, the wallpaper and the mouse icon were there but the area where you type in your password and the name of the user where missing. Is there a fix? Feedback would be greatly appreciated

A:Laptop stuck in startup page

I would start with startup repair which can typically be found in the alternate boot menu (also called Safe Mode menu).

Start the laptop from being powered off and as soon as you see something on the screen start pressing F8 repeatedly until you get to a black and white menu.

One option on that menu should be the option to repair your computer. Once you access the repair options, try the startup repair or try to restore to a recovery point that is prior to the issue you're having.

Hi I dont know much about computers but this issue has happened before. The problem is right now is that whenever I turn on the computer, it loads past the black page but then gets stuck on the Windows XP page start up. It does not go any further than that. I've tried restarting it several times, but it's not doing much. This has just started this morning and it was working fine for many days and the day before. Right now I am using somebody's else's computer. Can someone please help? Thanks very much in advanced.

A:windows stuck on start-up page

To get into the Windows XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" . Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.
Open up My Computer and right click on your C Drive and choose properties/ tools/ Error checking. Run the Windows XP error checker.

Hello again. Sorry, I described my problem incorrectly. I am stuck on the safe mode page. The computer will not progress to any page. If you tab to open in Safe mode with command prompt, it runs through the list, stops at windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys and it stays there. The CD can not be accessed. I put the original operating CD in, nothing. I put a SWIPE DRIVE in the cd, nothing. The computer was turned off,I booted up and discovered I could not progress beyond the safe mode page, stuck. This is a Gateway with Vista.

Hi Guys,

Please, please help me with the below.

I am having problems with my loaptop. Here is a recap of what's happened.

While I was deleting some of the large files on the hard drive, all of a sudden the computer switched off. When I switched it back on it would not go any further that the Windows XP logo (with flag). After experimenting a few things I am now getting a blue screen with a message: Physical Memory Dump, Blue screen of death.

Basically, it's kind of turning from that blue screen to Windows XP logo.

I have already tried safe mode, safe mode with the last config. and any other option that you'd see on that page before it goes to Windows XP logo.

And i can't seem to get any futher than that. What do I need to do to get my laptop back to how it was?

I am quite frustrated now and would really appreciate any help you can provide me with.

Many thanks in advance!

I'm desperate! Two weeks ago, as I passed by my computer on my way out the door, I noticed that it had rebooted itself (or so I thought) and it was on the windows xp startup page. I didn't think anything of it. When I returned home from work, 8 hours later, it was still on the same screen. I turned the power off and restarted it. A screen came up that gave me the options of starting in safe mode......and finally to starting windows normally. I chose normally and it froze on the windows xp startup screen again. It would do nothing, the progress bar would continue to scroll, but it did nothing other than that for fifteen minutes. I turned the power off and restarted it again. I chose safe mode this time and a screen came up with a bunch of different messages on it, but it stops at this one: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)and something agp440.sys and it stays on that screen forever.
I am at a different computer right now. Previously, before I had any problems out of my computer, I took my old hard drive out of a different computer that I had and installed it into this one(the one i am having problems out of) and it worked fine for about a week. I also added a cdwriter to my computer and it worked fine. Just out of the blue it started doing this. I don't know what to do and I don't know how to fix it.
I do not have the original cd to boot from, but i have downloaded the six winxp setup boot disks, and my computer wont even acknowledge the a: drive.

Hello,

*My Satellite P200-1EE is stuck on the Windows Vista progress bar since yesterday morning* and i'm unable to reach my desktop.

I tried several solutions using the F8 button on startup.

1/ Safe mode

2/ Startup repair. "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically".

3/ System restore. "No restore point".

4/ Windows complete PC restore. "No restore point".

5/ Windows memory diagnostic tool. It says there are no memory issues.

So, I'm only left with the "command prompt" and "Restoring the complete Windows operating system" options.

But I'm not too sure about the latter option. That's where I need your advice.

*If I go for complete Windows restore, will the whole hard drive be erased or just the partition where I have windows (i.e. "C:")?* I have several years of family photos on another partition (D or E) that I would rather not loose.

Clearly, *I don't care loosing the data or software on C: but not the personal stuff on D or E.*
Could you advise me on the best option?

Thanks,

Paul

A:Satellite P200-1EE - Vista stuck on Welcome page

> If I go for complete Windows restore, will the whole hard drive be erased or just the partition where I have windows (i.e. "C:")? I have several years of family photos on another partition (D or E) that I would rather not loose.

It depends on the disk you would use? If you would use the Toshiba recovery disk, then the whole HDD would be formatted including all the partitions on the HDD.
If you would use the Microsoft Windows Vista disk, you could choose what partition has been formatted and where the Vista should be installed.

> Clearly, I don't care loosing the data or software on C: but not the personal stuff on D or E.
>Could you advise me on the best option?

If you don?t want to lose the data stored on D partition and if you don?t have an Microsoft Vista disk, to install the Visa OS then I would recommend, removing the HDD from the notebook. Then attach this 2.5? SATA HDD to an USB-SATA controller and attach this HDD to another computer.
Usually you should be able to get access to the D partition and would be able to move all the data to another computer.

My pc was working fine after the updates that i did the otherday and it got powered off manually from my friend today and I went to turn it on today and it comes to the loading bar and doesnt show the vista icon its a black page with the green bars loading with microsoft corp underneath them. I left it there for hours and it wont go past that. I cant even put it in safe mode because it goes to load for it and says please wait but doesnt change.

I would like to get htis figured out before the holidays if possible any help would be great.

A:Stuck on loading page with no vista icon

Try downloading the 7 repair disc.

Download Windows 7 System Recovery Discs — The NeoSmart Files

Boot it and when you get to the screen saying "Install Now" - don't click that - click underneath where it says "Repair My Computer"
It will scan for installations - then click Next , select System Restore.

Select a restore point before the update.

Hope it helps.

Welcome to TSF.

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. The result.txt file will open up in Notepad. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. We do not need the original hijackthis.log (unless we ask for it). Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Hi all,
I'm running a Dell Inspiron 8200, XP Pro, 512 mb ram and an 37.2 gb hd with 8 gb free space on it.
Now my problem is that I can't seem to change my page file size. It is currently at 767mb even though "custom size" is selected and I have chosen 1024 mb for the initial size and maximum size.
I have tried wiping the page file entirely ("no page file" option) and have set it to 0 and 0 for initial and maximum. Of course I reboot after each change.
Nothing seems to work. Am I missing something stupidly obvious?
Hope someone can shed some light for me.

I have a toshiba satelite 655d running windows 7 home premium service pack 1

I was just sitting on youtube three days ago and all of a sudden it just froze,so i just let it sit there..then a blue screen popped up with this crazy sound and it did not give me a chance to read what it said..it fastly shut my whole computer down. I turned my laptop back on an it got to the windows screen and it just sat there and i could see the symbol loading but it just sat there forever and then it went to a black screen :(.

I have not backed up any of my files sadly i'v tried almost everything i went to system rapair it does not work i have no back up start up points and i have tons of important files that i cannot get rid of pictures, just everything that i need so i am trying to find a way to not restore it yet.

Only good thing is that i can get into safe mode i can see all of my files i tried to run my free virus scanner AVG but it doesn't find any viruses... so i downloaded the micrsoft saftey scanner and it found 5 viruses :( i let it do a full scan for 10 hours and then it just stopped right at the end so it was not able to get them off. So i have no idea what else to do... i just want my files back :( is there any suggestions? or anything i should do? please help and thanks for reading..

Hi Iv seen a post like this before on this forum here http://forums.techguy.org/showthread.php?t=252173

But I cant seem to get it to go away like the other guy did.

Let me give you a little background as to how I got this. I was on a site and a java type app poped up and started downloading files I dident catch it in time. Next thing I know I have 5 viruses and 294 ad programs and 12 reg entrys. The first thing I did was Run Norton 2003 it took care of the Viruses. Next I used Ad aware 6.0 plus, build 162 and also used Spybot - Search & Destroy and HijackThis. After all that mess the programs took away almost all the stuff. So next I went into safe mode and did it all again.

after that I shut down and started up again. I went on my web browser and it points to http://213.159.117.134/index.php. So i try and change it in the IE tools. But it wont let me. Next I tryed looking at the reg entrys and it put http://213.159.117.134/index.php in again as my home page and stuff. I tryed everything to fix this and I still get popups when I go on the web. So I guess I still have Ad problems?

Well heres some info that will help you help me.

1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose you language settings, and then click "next."
3. Click "repair your computer".

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

File: \windows\system32\config\system
Status: 0xc000014c
Info: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt.

It says a recent hardware or software change might be the cause but I haven't loaded any new software or hardware in over two weeks. The problem I have is that I do not have the windows installations disk as it came pre-installed on the laptop and the laptop doesn't have a disk drive at all.

I have a Lenovo X201 thinkpad with windows 7 home premium 64bit.

Any help given with fixing this problem will be greatly appriciated.

So I tried to reset my laptop so it would go back from Windows 10 to windows 8.1 because the brightness wouldn't change. It was in the middle of restoration when it was interrupted, I'm not entirely sure how but now I'm stuck on HP recovery manager and it says -'Restoration Incomplete'The restoration did not complete. Please select one of the following buttons-The buttons are - About, Save Log, Details and Retry. None of these buttons help as when I retry it sends me right back to the same page. I can only access the BIOS but I'm pretty sure you can't reset a computer from there. I've tried hard resetting also and I can't seem to get out of this continuos loop back to the same page.Any step by step help would be appreciated!!Thanks

So I was browsing a website, and I went to click on something, and I got this annoying url popup with a page that displays a blue screen, and a voice that tells me I have a virus and to call a telephone number, even though that isn't true. Well.. I figured hm, maybe if I sign out of windows and then sign back in that'll fix it, but nope it didn't. I wish there were more options when you right click on the Edge browser to launch it.

The only way to close it is to end task in task manager.

Hi peeps.

I need some help, I've read a lot of posts and not found any for my issue. Most are stuck with flickering cursor.

I don't know exactly what happened so I'll go through what I done leading up to the issue.
I processed a Windows update, I used spybot to remove some spyware which it didn't work so I selected run - msconfig - boot options - safe mode. So I could run a new scan on spybot.
So I rebooted and bios page loaded then the blue Windows 8 icon with the round dotted circle, the screen then goes black for 5 seconds. All that loads up is a grey screen with narrator options in the bottom left corner and the restart/shutdown option in the bottom right corner. I've tried all kinds and don't know what to do.

Its Windows 8.1 professional. I5 touchscreen all in one. I've had it 2 months.
I don't have the disc to hand, the person I purchased it from does have it still.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Just a few hours ago, my daughter was playing a pc game, it froze, so she went to restart..she clicked Start and then on Restart. The computer restarted. Well, the computer keeps landing on that black screen saying Windows did not shut down properly. I have tried to restart the computer in all three Safe Modes, Last good configuration etc... it restarts and then comes back to that black page saying Windows has been shut down improperly. Windows will not load at all.

I tried searching for this topic already and I didn't see one that was like this, so I hope I am not asking a repeat question.

Thanks

oh and the operating system is Windows XP Professional

Hello all,

I am trying to put my old (but recently purchased) HDD in another computer. I have the computer's original Windows cd in the drive. The HDD in question is a WD Black 500gb.

I will try to give as much information, as concise as I can in order to facilitate accurate help from the forum.

The original computer the HDD was in is an Alienware 14. I want to put it in my old Alienware m14x. The HDD was configured RAID by default when I reinstalled windows on the 14 last week. I have put literally nothing on the HDD before putting it in the m14x. I also have an mSATA (Samsung 840 EVO) in my 14 that is the OS drive. The HDD was there for additional storage, but my girlfriend's laptop broke so I'm giving her my old m14x. I will be putting another SSD in my 14. The original (or should I say, the 3rd replacement) HDD in te m14x went bad, which is why I need to put my new HDD in it.

When I go into BIOS on the m14x, the new drive is recognized, but the text is black and I cannot select it in BIOS. The default configuration for the drive is AHCI. I suspect this is the problem. I have the CD-ROM at the top of my load order, followed by the HDD. When I exit BIOS with the Windows CD in the drive, I am stuck on the screen which only has a blinking DOS cursor in the upper left hand corner. I left the computer on this screen for an hour last night, so I'm pretty sure I've waited long enough for any loading to occur.

As I said, I suspect the drive configuration is the iss... Read more

A:Trying to install Windows 7, stuck on the blinking cursor page

You are re installing windows on the drive, you don`t have to re set anything on the drive itself, you are wiping it out.

But set the bios to defaults and try again.

You should be fine then.

If you don`t get the words "Press any key to boot from DVD" then your install dvd is no good.

Hi,

This is essentially minor?.but still a problem:

Little while back, reading a HJT thread??& celebrating the brilliance of
one of the amaazing experts theah, TetonBob?.who, ironically had helped ME not long ago with a false positive?. I realized that I had outdated JAVA?.making me vulnerable.

I printed out the meticulous instructions re dump previous JAVAS?..with zip file 4 new one waiting on desktop.

I did this. But could not get rid of 3 updates re version 1.5 in
Add/Remove (Pls C screenie one, ?Need 2 Kill these Please?)?.got installer error. I then used W Explorer, dumped JAVA, then used FIND & did individual files?.had 2 unlock some with Unlocker. Then cleaned up registry.

But the 3 updates still appear. I believe the files are not actually there, OK? I just found and ran 4 add/remove augmenting freewares??and not one shows these when I run it. (Pls C screenie 2, ?current Correct?)

How can I get rid of the entries for old JAVA in Add/Remove? Again, I kinda think they R gone?..but want them REALLY, REALLY gone.

Thank U,
Jill

hello there, any help or guidance anyone can offer with the following would be really helpful!!
I am restoring a machine that picked up above above infection,
discovered during a routine AVG scan.
i have run Rapid blaster, which said i was clear,
gone into safe mode and checked System files for 04 HKLM run winsock2.driver LCD.exe
and 04 HKCU runonce winsock2 driver LCD.exe, and they didn't seem to be present (first time in safe mode though so not 100% sure i was looking at right files)
Re-run AVG, ADaware, and HJT all said clear, but spybot s+d shows 2 registry changes that it thinks i should remove - WINDOWSSECURITYCENTRE.ANTIVIRUSDISABLENOTIFY, and WINDOWSSECURITYCENTRE.UPDATEDISABLENOTIFY.
i have'nt used spybot enough to know whether i should remove what potentially sounds like an important part of my security!! Particularly as i understand that LCD.exe has the ability to modify itself and switch off anti-virus programs!!
i have attached the last HJT logfile if this can be of any use to you
thanks vey much in advance for any help
