Hi,
can anyone give me a step by step description, how i can export my Emails and the Address book from Outlook Express 6 to another Computer which runs also Outlook Express 6?
I tried already to export the Address book but it only allows me to export it as a *.csv-File and after i put the data on my usb stick and try to import it on my new computer by File - Import - Addressbook, the program keeps asking me for a *.wab-File? (btw: i can only use the: "Text File (Comma Separated Values))" Option, when exporting the address book.

Export and Import from email messages doesn't work either.

Has anyone a really step-by-step description how to do this??

Thank you very much in advance for your help

A:Solved: Import & Export from Outlook Express 6 to Outlook Express 6

Hi wizzle2003

When you are ready to Import the .csv file on the destination computer,
In Outlook Express,
File > Import > Other Address Book
You should then be given the option to choose a Text File (Comma Separated Values)
Then Browse to the .csv file to complete the Import.
Enable Show Hidden Files and folders:

Open My Computer,
Tools > Folder Options > View tab,
under Hidden Files and Folders, verify Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected.
Remove the check mark for Hide Extensions for known file types.
To locate the directory where Outlook Express keeps it's message store:
Tools > Options > Maintenance tab > Store Folder
Note the location, then Cancel out of the window.

Navigate to that directory, copy all the .dbx files to a folder on the Desktop.
Copy those files to a folder on the Desktop of the destination computer.
If you are using a Flash drive to transfer the files, it may take a couple of transfers to complete.

Once all the .dbx files are on the Destination computer,
Open Outlook Express,
Tools > Import > Messages > Microsoft Outlook Express 6 > Next
Select: Import mail from an OE 6 store directory
Click: OK
Browse to the folder containing the .dbx files on the Desktop.
When you reach the Finish button,
You should see a "Congratulations Your data was successfully imported"

If there is more than one Identity in Outlook Express, switch to the other Identities in Outlook Express and repeat the steps above.

Folks I have read the MS tech notes on how to get Outlook 2003 [I have it via Office 2003 Professional, full install] to import from OE6. It fails under either option: import from "another program" or "Import Internet Mail....". Under the former it is pointed to the correct folder, but fails with Error: Cannot open,.. another program in use" but there's not... I tried copying the folder to a nice clean location on the C: and checked all the properties, nothing interfering, still won't open the folder.
Under the latter option it just doesn't do anything after directing it to the correct folder. Seems to accept the command, closes the window, but does not import anything. No error messages.

Umm.... do MS teams communicate with one another??

Closely related: If I could just get the FOLDERS I had setup it would be a great asset, or if i could just get the ADDRESS book it would help. Do you know how to import *.dbx folders into Outlook 2003? Or the old outlook Express address Book?

A:Outlook 2003 Will Not Import Outlook Express folders, mail, anything

They are written in two different formats that are uncompatible. The Oulook Express has a file sytem totally unique to it.

I had the same problem about 6 weeks ago going from XP to Win7.
I had to transfer address book to notepad and put it into Outlook one at a time. The old mail sits in the old PC.
I have heard you can transfer the OE mail files over to Windows mail or gmail etc. Then transfer files from the new mail server to Outlook.
File system is changed over with the mail transfer- I haven't tried it though.
Mike

I did a Google and found this. I didn't find this page six weeks ago.

I have tried to import my .WAB file from Microsoft Office Outlook 2002 to Outlook Express. I used File, Import from within Outlook Express. I select the .wab file to import, and I get a message in about 1/2 a second saying it has been done but no addresses are imported.
Do you have to have both programs open? Is there another way to import addresses into OE?

I am very frustrated! I renamed my OE6 store files for my Outlook Express emails as I have multiple identities. In addition, I create 2 additional folders in which I keep emails that I don't want to lose. Before the drive is reformated, these store folders containing only the 2 created folders are copied to a disk, (I usually copy all the folders, didn't this time). When I set up OE6 again, I create the 2 additional folders and then copy my saved emails back in, only this time it isn't working!!!! I create the additional folders during the set up of the identity, but when I copy and paste .dbx folders, they aren't being "read".

I have gotten myself confused as I have tried so many different ways to copy them back in where they belong that now I can't remember the order of the steps to accomplish this task. Could someone please help? I would be most appreciative.

The OS is Win XP Pro, SP3.

I'm trying to read the e-mails from my old Windows 98 computer on my current Windows XP computer but I haven't been able to figure out how to successfully do this. The e-mail client on the Windows 98 machine was Outlook Express 6 and the one on my current XP computer is Outlook 2002.

I followed the instructions listed on the Microsoft support site (Article ID: 270670) for backing up the data from Outlook Express which left me with a folder of .dbx files (Inbox.dbx, Drafts.dbx etc) which I then burned onto a CD and transferred over to my XP computer. My problem is that now that I've done that I'm not sure how to get Outlook 2002 to import that folder of .dbx files or recognize it. I googled it but didn't find any helpful results other than links to expensive conversion programs. So could anyone here offer any help on the matter? Thanks in advance.

A:How do I import messages from Outlook Express 6 into Outlook 2002?

Update: I realized that Outlook can't open the .dbx files and that Outlook Express has to export them to Outlook. However, when I tried this it only exported the messages in my "Sent" folder and none of the messages in any of the other folders, including Inbox.dbx which is about 500MB in size so I know the messages are in there. Any advice on what to do next?

Hey Folks

I am trying to import OE5 .dbx files from a Win2k machine to a completely different machine (Win2003) with OE6. Everytime I try to import the DBX files I get an error message stating:

"No messges can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open..."

The thing is I have even tried copying the DBX files from the old machine to the new machine and importing them from a directory on the new machine. I stil get the same message!

Another strange thing is the impor facility on OE6 does not provic an option import OE5 files, only OE4 & OE6.

I've already imported my mail accounts and address book, just not my messages.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thx in advance.

Just going through the frustrating task of switching to new Win7 machines from old XP machines.

I have several thousand important (business) e-mails on my old XP machine under Outlook Express 6. Six different accounts, each with their own inbox. Four are POP3, 2 are IMAP. The new machine has Office 2010 with Outlook, and I have set up all 6 accounts and they are sending and receiving fine.

I have read several articles on how to move (or export/import) all my old e-mails into Outlook, but they all seem to be written as if I have both Outlook Express and Outlook on both machines - not the case. Some say to install Outlook temporarily on the old machine and make the conversion there - is this really necessary? Where would I get just Outlook 2010? Download a trial version?

The articles all seem to make reference to a PST file. I have located the store files on the Outlook Express (old) machine, and they are all in a .dbx format. Additionally, there are literally dozens of these dbx files, many for old folders that I no longer have on the old machine, even some old e-mail accounts that have been closed for years..

Can someone walk me though how to move (export/import) my e-mails from my old XP machine, with Outlook Express 6.xxx only, onto my new machine, with Outlook 2010 only? Can I migrate individual folders, or do I have to move everything (all 6 accounts plus the sent items folder) at ... Read more

Hi,

I know this topic has come up before but the thread seems to be closed and I do not see the resolution. I am trying to move my messages from Outlook Express 6 to Outlook 2010. They are on different computers. I already copied the entire OE6 directory onto the new computer and tried to use the import function in Outlook. Is this the best way to maintain the integrity of the folder structure?

Hello,
The title would make it sound like a simple problem, but I can't figure it out for the life of me. Here is the situation. Last week a thunder storm blew through and sent a electrical spike through my protection and rendered my motherboard useless. My computer guy salvaged my data for all users from the drive. Once the motherboard was replaced, he had to repair the OS,(Vista). He then plopped the data into a folder on the drive. Now I just need to reload my programs and all that stuff. My question is this: I see the folder with all of my contacts in it. How do I get those contacts back in Outlook 2007? I tried the import wizard, but it seems that there is no option for importing that format. I looked at the properties of one of the contacts and it is listed as a .contact format. What is that? Any help would be appricated.

I just imported a large PST file (exported from my old computerís Outlook 2003 Inbox folder) into Outlook 2010. I ran the Inbox Repair Tool on it before importing it to make sure it was error-free. But now over 6,000 reminders are demanding my attention. Oddly, only some of them are actual old calendar items -- some are Contacts, and many are simple filenames (e.g., C:\\WINDOWS\Desktop\etc.).

I canít get the reminders to go away. No matter what I do (Dismiss All, Dismiss individually, close dialog box), Outlook hangs up for a minute or more (Not Responding). When I do regain control, it's only for a short time before it stops responding again, and eventually the reminders dialog pops back up and I'm right back where I started.

Things I've tried to no avail:

Running Outlook with both the /CleanReminders and /ResetFolders command line switches.
Running the Inbox Repair Tool on the merged PST. Errors were found and repaired, but it didnít fix the reminder problem.

This problem has rendered Outlook virtually unusable, and Iím stumped. Anyone have any suggestions?

First, I tried to get Outlook 2010 to see my .dbx folders from Outlook Express, it wouldn't.

I then migrated my OE mail to WLM. I then tried to both export my mail to Outlook 2010 and Import from Outlook 2010. When importing, Outlook only saw the welcome mail message but didnt see anything else.

I should add that I copied my old (2007 Outlook.pst) file into Outlook 2010's store directory. I am not sure if this is why I am unable to import my mail.

Any ideas?

A:Outlook 2010: Unable to import mail from WLM

I just got done getting my e-mail from WLM to Outlook 2010.

There are a couple of tricks:You need to have Outlook set as your default mail client
Outlook needs to be the 32-bit version. The 64-bit version will not work
Make sure Outlook is not running
Open WLM. Menu item: File -> Export Messages
Select output to Exchange format. This will generate the PST file and follow the directions as they are presented
Close WLM
Open Outlook. Your entire email account will appear as a folder under your default account in Outlook. Time to move things around.

A:Thunderbird to Outlook 2010 - email import?

What's slow about it? Thunderbird is a pretty basic, simple e-mail editor. If it opens slowly or doesn't respond, I suspect you have other problems.

Also, there's no way to natively import e-mails from Thunderbird into Outlook, so you'd have to hunt for a 3rd party tool.

I am trying to leave Microsoft Office behind on this latest computer I built. I have installed my old hard drive in order to transfer the data to my new hard drive. Now I am having trouble importing settings and messages to either Thunderbird or Outlook Express on my C drive from Outlook 2003 which is on the F Drive.

Thunderbird doesn't allow me to look for it and says it can't find Outlook when I try to import directly so I am trying to import into Outlook Express and figure if I want to use Thunderbird, I can import from Express since they are both on the C drive. However, when I try to do it with Express using the standard "File - Import - messages - Microsoft Outlook" method I get this message.

"Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client.

MAPI is not installed on this computer or an error occurred while initializing it."

I am assuming that without Outlook being installed on the C drive the MAPI isn't either. Or, perhaps it's because I am using <Microsoft Windows Professional XP 64

I exported the messages as csv files and other settings as .pst but can't seem to import them either? Any suggestions on how i might get this done? I would prefer to get everything into Thunderbird but, at this point will settle for Outlook Express. My last choice would be to install outlook 2003 on this new drive as that means I need to install the entire suite. Thank you.

I need to recover old emails and address book entries from a (previous) version of OE.
I removed the OS HD (Win98 - OE ver.= not sure) from the old machine and set it aside. Note that I didn't know to export any files at this time. I never use OE and I'm doing this for a friend. I installed the new HD along with new MB/Mem/CPU etc. and installed XP Home without having the old HD in the system. Got the hardware installed and working then reinstalled the old HD. I ran OE from the fresh XP install thinking I could just get the old OE info (email, addy book) from the old HD. I can't seem to find anything! I ran the OE .exe from the old HD and it still just runs the new installed version. I'm hoping that the data is still there intact and retrievable somewhere.

I've just done a full re-installation of Windows ME on my PC, to overcome deteriorating performance. I backed up data and restored it OK. However, I backed up the Outlook Express 6.0 messages by doing an Outlook Express export into several files, and copying those files back onto the new PC (I suspect now that I should have simply copied the files themselves in Explorer, rather than exporting them).

I have tried to import the messages from these exported files into my now empty Outlook folders. I chose to import from an OE6 Identity, and selected the folder where the files are; the files are all named after the Outlook folders, and have type DBX. The import function shows me the files listed as folders. I select one of them, and the import claims to be successful, but no messages are imported.

I have also tried simply replacing the new empty files with the backed up DBX files, but although Outlook allows me to view these folders, it shows them as empty.

Does anyone know how I can rescue the messages from the exported files? All I have is the exported files.

Thank you

I have a USB flash drive that has a folder full of names and email addresses

I have a "New folder", a sub-folder under Main Identity's contacts, and that is where I want to copy the contents of the folders' .vcf files from the flash drive. So far I haven't been able to do this

How do I import the .vcf files from the folder that is on the flash drive

That's not bad at all, actually.
Select all the rows.
Copy.
Paste into Word (believe it or not)
Select all that you just paste, and NOTHING extra.
Hit Table-Convert-TExt to table.
Use a hyphen as the delimiter (might have to type under "Other")
Make sure it shows 3 columns will be used.
Hit Ok.
Copy the table. (Table-Select table, copy)
Paste into Excel.

I can't swear it'll work. I don't use OE, but I do believe it'll take a CSV file--check first.

Hi
I have a disk on which someone backed up her outlook express. Unfortunately she didn't export her address book as comma separated values. There are no *.wab files either. There is a WAB.exe file but that only seems to open the addresses of whatever computer I use. There is a whole list of DLL files they are
9xmig.dll
Csapi3t1.dll
Msoe.dll
Msoeres.dll
Oeimport.dll
Oemiglib.dll
wabfind.dll
Wabimp.dll
and the following applications
Msimn
Msoe.txt
Oemig50
Setup50
WAB.exe
Wabmig

As far as I've managed to find out wab.exe just runs the address book but doesn't contain data. She says someone at another company managed to open both her mail and addresses from this cd. It is not rewritable and there is no other copy of her mail/address book anywhere as it's been deleted.
Therefore it must be possible.
Any idea which of these files has the info I need?
I'm nervous of dll files

I have switched from one laptop to another, and in the process to bring over my OE files, I copied from all the .dbx files from my old laptop to the new in the relevant Identity directory (as the identity was the same). But on the new laptop, OE will not start with those files. I get a long error message that has the code (0x8007000E, 5) at the end.

Any ideas? I do not want to lose all my old emails and folders!

Please help...!!

A:Outlook Express 6 Import Fails

Hi jackf

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

If you copied all the .dbx files to the directory where Outlook Express keeps the .dbx files, close Outlook Express.

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to that directory.

Check all the files for the Read-Only attribute and remove it, Outlook Express does not like Read-Only files.

Then locate the Folders.dbx file and Right click send it to the desktop.

Open Outlook Express, it may take a minute as it will be recreating the Folders.dbx file which should include the new .dbx files.

Let us know what happens.

Hi:

A client's Outlook Express address book was exported from a Windows 2K Pro machine and saved on a CD-RW disc as a .csv file. I am unable to import it to the client's new XP Pro machine.

I have sucessfully imported the file to two other 2K Pro and two XP Pro machines.

After loading the CD-RW disc and clicking on File, Import, Other Address Book, and then highlighting Text File (Comma Separated Values), I click on Import and the system hangs with no further action.

Thanks, any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Some CD drives have problems reading CD-RW disks. Try copying the csv file to the harddrive and importing from there.

Thank you

I would like to know how I can import my old emails. I have the same accounts/identities set up addresses/passwords, but I don't have any of the old emails that I used to have before I did a restore. When I set up again, Outlook Express tried to import, but came up with can't import from MAPI client. I don't know what that means. I have XP. Thanks...

Hi Liz

What type of restore did you do?
A System Restore?

In Outlook Express,
File > Import > Messages > Microsoft Outlook Express 6 > Next

You should see a list of Identities where you can Import messages from.

My hard drive recently crashed and I installed a new one. Fortunately, I had backed up my data so did not lose anything. However, I am having trouble importing my email files into the new Outlook. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and Outlook 2010 on both the old and new hard drives.

I imported several archive folders with no problem. However, the main account folder will not import. When I try, I get an error message ?The Outlook data file (.pst) is already in use in the current profile.? I have dozens of critical work emails in folders that I can?t access. How do I import all the folders into Outlook on my new hard drive?

I'm fed up with web mail and want to move to Outlook as my only mail source. The problem is, if I use Outlook, I won't be able to get all of the emails that I've organized into folders in Yahoo mail without taking every single one out of the folders and letting it sync. Outlook is able to sync the folders just fine with "Outlook Online." Is there a way that I can make Yahoo Mail do this?

A:Import existing yahoo folders into Outlook 2010?

Actually isn't too complex but depending on the number of Webmail folders you have it may take time - but only once!

I would:
In Outlook create identical folders you have in Webmail.
Set Outlook to REMOVE FROM IMAP SERVER otherwise you must manually DELETE the emails after Download (steps 6 & 7 below).
In Webmail, make sure your Inbox is empty.
Open a Webmail folder and SELECT ALL emails in the folder.
Under Actions, select Move Inbox then click Apply - the emails move to your Inbox.
In Outlook, initiate Send/Receive.
Once received, select all and move to the desired folder.
Repeat.

Put Contacts in the Search or Run box and it should take you to the Contacts Folder in C:\Users\YOUR_NAMZE\Contacts. I usually use Windows Address Book on WinXP to Export the contacts to a .csv/Comma Separated Value file which can be use for importing into a number of E-Mail programs and some Webmail and can also be opened in a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel, Corel/WordPerfect Quattro Pro, Lotus 1-2-3, LibreOffice, OpenOffice, etc.

I am in the process of making a permanent transition from XP to Vista. One of the motivating factors is that my XP installation is messed up and Vista is working fine.

When trying to import the Outlook Express settings into Vista's "Windows Mail", Mail cannot "see" the OE account on the other partition.

I was able to successully copy all the .DBX files to the Vista Desktop and import them into Mail, but still cannot find a way to get the Message Rules and Accounts into Mail, either by importing them from Vista or exporting them from XP.

When I try to export the information, XP gives me some odd error message that I can't remember right now, but it involves one of the Services not working. I tried to fix it but could not.

And when I try to import the information, Mail cannot see the account. I get "No other e-mail accounts could be found" but the message appears so quickly I can tell it's not really looking. I cannot browse Mail to find them either.

I did some research and learned that these settings are saved in specific places of the Registry, and one option is to boot back to XP (shudder) and try to export these registry settings. But then I wonder what would happen if/when I imported them to Vista.

Should I try this ? Or is there a better way ?

Another idea was I was wondering if it is possible to get RegEdit to open a Registry on another partition; another non-booted O/S's Registry.

Anyways, that's as much as my ... Read more

Well just last night someone phoned me and asked for my brothers new phone number and then realized I hadn't set up an address book in W7. Upon doing a search of the forums I don't see much positive feelings.... about new address books and email clients.

I imported my old address book from my old hdd and upon inspection it only imports the name, email address and phone number. No other information. No street address, etc.

So now looking further into this, I see it looks like a problem, I used Outlook Express for years and thought I was going to just use webmail instead. It has been nothing but a headache so far making the switch. The only part about changing to W7 that has been difficult has been the change of email systems. I have yahoo mail but I didn't do a sync before I upgraded so my contacts there are outdated.

I used to have my address book syncing with my Blackberry under Windows XP so maybe I will try that route, since my phone addresses are up-to-date. Perhaps I can get all my addresses and numbers that way.

Wish me luck!

Hi ~

I recently had to wipe my computer and reinstall Windows XP Media....before I did this, I had gone into Outlook Express and (without doing much research), opted to back up all the messages and contacts which saved them as .pst files.

After my reinstall, I went into OE, expecting to simply click on Import and get everything back the way it was. That has proven to be like slamming my head against a brick wall!

No matter what I do I can't figure out how I can get OE to let me choose these files to import.

Does anyone know what I can do to get these files back to where they belong?

Thanks so much!

Here is the situation XP Home on both Stepmom's hard drive was failing and I had an unused Dell sitting around. So I connected the old drive as a secondary drive on the Dell so I could transfer all her user data to the new one. Now she had never exported anything for backup purposes. I was able to restore all her emails from the .dbx files. Then loaded OE on the new system, went to import the address book, navigated to the location on the old drive, and selected her.wab file. So after I did the window popped saying import was successful but when I looked for the address book listing there is nothing there. I know I selected the right .wab because the file size was triple the amount used by the default address book. I have tried to get her on a better email program like Thunderbird but is set on using OE.
Any help greatly appreciated

Not clear what you did...but the emails need to be imported...and the WAB needs to be imported as a separate item.

Note that you can find the location of stored emails by going to the Message store and noting the path. This can be changed, if you like.

On the SKYPE panel at Import contacts from Outlook it only shows the "Stinking Facebook junk" - however in all the software blurb in the documentation Outlook 2010 support Instant messaging -- just sign in to your IM program when you pop up the contact.

Hello,
I'm without any success hardly trying to modify (as begginer I'm still unable to create) some macro's I found in this forum in order to send data from Excel sheet into a specific public (or not if it's too heavy) calendar in Office 2010.
Import would take place with a push of a button and duplicates should not be allowed...

Even a simple line like: Dim olApp As Outlook.Application gives an error ...Maybe I'm getting tired...

And how should I modify those lines in order to select a specific Calendar (using Folder(Calendar name) in place of GetDefaultFolder in the lines mentioned here under?
Set olNS = OL.GetNamespace("MAPI")
Set olFolder = olNS.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderCalendar)

If someone would be kind enought to give me a help, here are some details about my Excel sheet:
Column A "Company", Column D "Date soon", Column G "Date Late"
Column A is fully completed, but columns D and G have some lines without any date...

I decided to backup (copy) all my folders with messages in Outlook Express 6. I did a Google search and found numerous sites which gave specific instructions for doing this. All, including Microsoft, were basically the same. I exported to my desktop assuming everything would be in one folder, but rather every folder was displayed separately. I created a New Folder and dragged them all into it. I then opened OE6 and found there were no messages at all there. I then followed the suggested procedure for importing back to OE6 and the messages returned. I then deleted the New Folder I had created on the desktop and re-opened OE6. All messages were gone again. I was able to recover most of them (not all) by restoring from the Recycle Bin. I have attempted several times to recover all the messages and restore OE6 to the exact state it was in before I started this process, but could not. I picked a date prior to beginning this and did a System Restore, but it still left all the icons (folders) with messages on the desktop. Every time I would attempt to import these back to OE6, I would loose more messages. I have tried everything I can find information on but with no success. Basically you export the Thunderbird data as a CSV file, import it to OE and map the data to the headers (ie tell OE what the entries in the address book mean).

Though I didn't need it in the end, I started by making a backup of my data first using MozBackup.

How do I import my old Outlook express address book with groups into a new installation of Outlook Express?

I got a new computer and would like to import my address book from the old computer. I saved the old address book but when I try to import it into the new computer it loses all of the folders and groups and puts everything into the main contacts list.

Note that it is OE to OE not OE to Outlook.

If I knew where the main address book is stored I could probably just rename the old address book the same as the main book and overwrite it.

Can anybody help me?

A:How do I import my outlook express address book with groups

On your old computer open OE and click on File, Export, Address Book. Choose Text file (comma seperated values) and press Export. Enter the place you want to save the address list, for example a floppy in your floppy drive, which would be :

a:\address.csv

Press next and put a checkmark in each box and then press finsih.

It will create the floopy on your floppy. Put that floppy in the new machine, and this time after opening OE, click on File, then Import, then Other Address Book, and select text file(comma seperated values) and press import. Specify the file a:\address.csv and press next.

Put a check in each box and press finish. You should now have all your addresses imported.

I?m in the process of building up a new desktop system in parallel with my current desktop system, which is still being actively used until the new system is ready. I?m upgrading the new system to Windows 7 Professional x64 from the Windows 7 Home Premium x64 currently installed on the old active desktop system. Other than that change, I?m re-installing and re-activating all the software from the old system onto the new system.
My question concerns Outlook 2010. Since Microsoft took away their simple email client, Windows Mail, I?ve been forced to use Outlook 2010 for my personal home use. Over time, by hiding this function and re-arranging that, I?ve been able to simplify the Outlook GUI to a tolerable level for my personal home use. Of course, when I re-installed Office Professional 2010 Plus with Outlook on the new system, all the useless (for me) bells and whistles are back and I have to also set up my email accounts all over again.
I know how to export and import all my email and Address Book data, but is there any relatively simple way to export from the old system and import to the new system all the GUI and email account settings so Outlook will look and act exactly the same on the new system at first use without any tinkering?

Windows Mail came with Vista after Microsoft discontinued Outlook Express. On Win7 and Win8/8.1 I've had better success with Windows Live Mail, part of Windows Essentials, than with Outlook for most folks. An issue with one yesterday on Win8.1 and its Mail was that for ease it worked best to have a Microsoft account such as Hotmail.com or Outlook.com so I removed that tile and setup Windows Live Mail to use with his local ISP account. Now if you are confused by names, join the crowd, Microsoft seems to love confusing us like they did with Works and Works Suite.

Please select another folder or try closing applications that may have files open.Click to expand...

Read-only and hidden attributes have been removed from the containing folder and its contents as well as every other folder in the path..

I have researched this and Googled up many sites that deal with the problem when this message appears, including Microsoft's official approach to this problem. None of the solutions I have found work for me and as far as I have researched, no one has ever reported a successful solution.

A:Windows Live Mail cannot import Outlook Express messages

Solved.

I went back to the source machine, deleted folders.dbx, reran Outlook Express so as to recreate folders.dbx, copied the newly-created folders.dbx to the destination machine and import went smoothly except it reported it could not import some of the mails in InBox; but, that isn't a problem.

My guess is that folders.dbx got corrupted in the transfer of the Outlook Express Mail containing folder to the destination machine.

I decided to back up my old e-mails into an external new HD. I found the inbox.mbx folder and renamed it to move it to a new folder. But then I discovered in panic that the whole folder had dissapeared from my OutLook Express client and when I tried to import it back to OE there was this warning :the "folder could not be found or was in use by other application". Something I read trying to solve this problem by myself, was that if you donīt copy, move or rename in the proper manner, the whole folder could get corrupted. Now this problem is beyond my power and I will indeed appreciate your help to get my inbox folder back to OutLook Express, before I do something else wrong. I know where the folders are but I guess I have a problem with the renaming that I am unable to solve. Please Help.

Hello all:

I am having problems importing a customer's address book from Outlook Express (XP) to Windows Live Mail (7). The addresses are being (mostly) split into each individual entry: some are just physical addresses, some email addresses, some phone numbers.

I searched on your forum here and did not find the answer to the problem (indeed, I didn't see anyone else having it!) so I thought I'd ask to see if you've heard of anything like this. I would appreciate greatly any response and I apologize if this is something that has already been posted.

Thanks,
Jacob

Edit: I've found that not only are some emails being split from their contact information, but there are 3 contact entries for every phone or phone/email contact. Help?

The first part says the problem is with importing the address book but the Edit part says emails are being split. Is the problem with address book or emails?

I am migrating from an XP SP3 desktop to a Windows 7 64 bit machine. I use Outlook Express extensively on the XP machine, but have loaded Live Mail on the W7 one as the recommended solution.

I have experimented with the Import function in Live Mail using the .dbx files produced by OE held under 'Identities' but find that the Account field for each email (visible in Live Mail when the Account column is enabled) is not being populated in Live Mail. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug? I note that any new emails I receive do populate the Account field, and I am confident that the Account information is present in the .dbx files.

I would like to find a workaround for this problem - any ideas folks?

Many thanks

I suppose you could call it a bug. It seems to happen whenever you do an import using the "import/export" "wizards". Not just with OE>WLM but also WLM>WLM. (Same with Vista's built-in WM.) It's been too long for me to remember what happened when I last did OE>OE. Keep in mind that wherever an import/export is involved (even with contacts), some fields are lost.

How do I find the Outlook Express address book which is on my old hard drive that was running Windows XP. Best Buy took the hard drive out and mounted it into an external hard drive case which I have plugged into the new desktop USB port. The new Dell XPS420 quad core processor is running Windows Vista Premium Home Edition. How do I then import this Outlook Express address book once it is located on the old hard drive.

A:Import Outlook Express address book on external hard drive into new desktop

Search for .wa files; see the 1st page of this article for some help and info: http://www.insideoe.com/files/wab.htm

I'm guessing that searching for "import Outlook Express address" in Vista's Help and Support Center will turn up a useful article or two. I'm not on Vista at the moment, so I'll let you check that out.

Or check out this article: http://www.vista4beginners.com/Migrate-from-Outlook-Express-to-Windows-Mail

Skip the part about exporting in your XP system; when you get to the Windows Mail import select "Windows Address Book File (Outlook Express contacts)."

I inadvertently hit the Outlook Express icon on my desktop. All my emails in my Windows Live inbox were then exported into Outlook Express and the emails no longer appear in my Windows Live inbox. Supposedly, I can import the emails back into Windows Live using the File menu in Windows Live. However, I cannot find the Windows Live file menu. Supposedly, I can hit my Alt M key and make the full menu appear in Windows Live. However, hitting the Alt M key on my keyboard has no effect on Windows Live.

To sum up.

How do I make the File menu appear in Windows Live?
Once I get access to the File menu, how do I complete the import process from Outlook Express to Windows Live?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

I recently purchased a new computer that has Office 2010 installed. I would like to move the contents of my .pts file from my old computer which has Outlook 2007 to my new computer which has Outlook 2010. Before, when I wanted to transfer my .pts file from one computer to another I would just copy the file to a portable hard drive and then transfer the file to the other computer. However, Outlook 2010 is completely different animal. When I go to C:, Users, App Data, etc., new computer, it is completely different from my other computer that had Vista. My question is, how can I transfer my .pts file and/or my address book, calendar, contacts, etc. for my older Windows Vista computer that had Outlook 2007, to my new computer that has Windows 7 and Outlook 2010 installed? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

A:Solved: Moving Outlook Messages and Address Book From Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2010

Hello referee07;

Copy your .pst file from your old computer to the new one or your portable hard drive.

To launch the Outlook 2010 Export/Import wizard, first go to File menu, navigate to Open, and click Import.

In the Import And Export wizard, select Import from another program or file option and hit Next

Under File Type, select Outlook Data File(.pst) and hit Next

Now choose the file to import, select the options, and hit Next

Once done, finally select the folder to import from(if you want to import complete data don’t change any settings) and make sure Include subfolders is checked. You can either import the file to the current folder or choose the folder.

Hope this helps!

Dave

I am not able to copy and paste text from a website into a new Outlook 2010 email. COPY AND PASTE ARE GRAYED OUT. CTRL C works within the web page. However, CTRL V does NOT paste the copied browser text into my Outlook 2010 email.

Outlook Help did not provide any means of restoring Copy and Paste to Outlook 2010. I sure hope someone can assist for a simple but VITAL need, copy and paste.

I have Windows 7 Professional x64, both FIrefox 3.7 and IE 9 beta.

Your assistance will be very appreciated.

A:Outlook 2010 not listing copy or paste

Hi 53texman and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

Works for me.

In this example, I have selected all of your post above and used Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V to copy and paste.

Here, I have made a selection from my home page and used the right-click copy/paste function.

It could possibly depend on the webpage and what you are trying to copy. Whilst Ctrl + C would appear to work, it doesn't necessarily mean that it has actually copied anything if the source doesn't permit such copying. The fact that you stated that Copy and Paste were grayed out would imply that this is the case. Copy will be grayed out if the source does not permit copying, and likewise Paste will be grayed out if there is nothing stored in the buffer for copying.

What is the site you having this problem with?

It may depend on how Outlook and Exchange are configured for the organization.

You can do a Google for Outlook Shared Folder

Here are a couple links I found that might help you.

The version of OUTLOOK EXPRESS 5 on my Toshiba Satellite 2805-S301 laptop has become corrupted and I need to reinstall it.

Unfortunately, the recovery disk that came with my laptop does not include this software.

I've gotten super frustrated trying to find it on the Microsoft site. I get all sorts of updates and patches but the only OUTLOOK EXPRESS 5 that comes up when I search their free downloads is a MAC version.

Does anyone have an idea where I can get a copy of this software online?

Many thanks

A:Copy Mail Box in Outlook express 6

Relevant dbxClick to expand...

Close Outlook Express.
Go to the store folder - rename folders.dbx to folders.old
Open Outlook Express.

OE should create a new folders.dbx containing the additional dbx
files you copied.

Is there a way to copy the contents of Outlook Express to disc and load onto another computer, both computers having XP operating systems?

Would like to have email content accessable as well as email addresses and other address book information on both computers. Realize that the second computer would have to be occasionally updated if, in fact, the file is transferrable.

A:Copy Outlook Express to another computer

G'Day pzolbe,

If its only the address book that you want to transfer...then the answer is YES it can be done, and this is the way I have done it quite successfully in the past....

Go into My Computer and Right click on your "C" Drive > Explore > Documents and Settings > [your name] > Application Data > Microsoft > Address Book, right click > copy, minimise the window, and paste it to the Desktop.
You should now have a folder named Address Book there, and you can copy it onto a floppy disc and transfer the folder to the other computer.
The process is a bit long-winded, as you'll have to transfer each individual address file into the new address book, once its on the other computer.
I don't know of any faster method, and would welcome anyone else that can offer you a faster alternative .

Let us know how you get on.

Kind Regards,

Dave T.

I even have "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus." unchecked in the Security tab of the Options. Please help. Thanks.
I'm running under WindowsXP Home SP2 and I've turned off all Spyware software and software firewalls.
