WDS - image capture upload - There is not enough space on the disk

Q: WDS - image capture upload - There is not enough space on the disk

I have passed all the steps of the image capture wizard of the WDS Server 2008 R2...
In the middle of the process of the uploading the image captured it tells me "There is not enough space on the disk".
I canceled the process and I can see the xyz.wim file created in the local machine, but no in the WDS server (E:\RemoteInstall).
Obviously I have sufficient space on both, local machine where I am capturing the image and on the WDS server.
Also, both disk drives are NTFS without quota allocation.
Anyone has an idea of how to solve it¿?
I have read some information in Internet, but with no succesful.
Thanks in advanced.

A: WDS - image capture upload - There is not enough space on the disk

You have to create an small (10GB) partition in the client machine, and then in the wizard you need to specify that you want to create the .wim there.
It works like a charm.
Good luck!

I took a job where the previous person is suspected of A LOT of things.

I was able to put aside her computer after copying what files I might need to do the job, and use a different computer. Her computer sits virtually unchanged from the day she was escorted out.

Now I am being pressed to put it back into commission. I don't know if anything on it will be useful for evidence at some date as we investigate what she was doing. Maybe, maybe not.

What's the best way to capture the image, store it and be able to access it again?

I may end up just pulling the drive and stashing it, but I'm wondering what software is best for it.

Thanks

my factory image d is low, i have tried disk defrag, disk clean up.
i don't have another program taking up space on factory image.
plz help with this problem

A:Factory Image D, Low disk Space

Welcome
The factory image partition is used to recover your Operating System in case of a major problem, with no other options. In essence it is used to reinstall the Operating System. Nothing else should be in that partition except the image of your Operating System. Due to errors, files may have been written to the drive inadvertently. I suggest that you go into the drive and delete everything that is not pertient to the actual reinstallation of the Operating System. You will be able to tell what is unnecessary by the dates that are shown. Any current dates can be deleted. Do not write to this partition, in the future. You can use another partition or DVDs or CDs to write files

I wish you luck.

(per WHS)
D: is your recovery partition with little free space. Nothing should be written on it. It can, however, happen, that e.g. file backup writes data on it if you did not change the target volume. D: is the default volume for file backup. I suggest you go into "Computer", double click on D: and delete all files that are not part of the recovery partition. If you don't know which is which, take a snip and post the picture here. Then we can help you sort it out.
A volume must always have at least 10% of free space, else you get a "low space" condition. It then also turns red in "Computer".
Once this is fixed, you must make sure that D: stays clean - e.g. assign another media for file backup. That can be an external disk, a USB stick of suffic... Read more

Unfortunately, I'm having this problem once again. The other day I prematurely marked this thread SOLVED, so now I need to reopen it.

Using Microsoft Digital Image Pro 7.0, I had been editing and saving changes to my vacation photos for the past few days without any problems. Today I was in the process of editing/saving a few more pictures when all of a sudden I got the following error message:

Not enough disk space to complete this action. Free up disk space by deleting unnecessary files, and then try again.

I've done the following: (1) ran Disk Cleanup and removed unnecessary files; (2) removed a large program from my HD; (3) ran System Restore to a safe point in time; and (4) finally, uninstalled and reinstalled Digital Image Pro. After each of these four actions I tried again to use Digital Image Pro to make and save changes. However, I received the same error message every time. What must I do in order to "free up disk space" and have the program work properly? I may be wrong, but this doesn't sound like a "disk space" problem to me.

Earlier I had wondered if the fact that a program CD was inserted in my CD drive at the time had anything to do with my receiving the error message about not having enough disk space. I've since learned that the inserted CD is not the cause of my problem.

For some reason I am able to use Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 to edit/save photos, but not Digital Image Pro.

As thread title says, I am low on discspace on factory Image D:, atleast that is what the annoying popup windows says every 5 minutes.. I have been looking around other threads about setting the recovery settings to different specs but none have worked. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SP1, mind you that I just reinstalled Windows 7 again since the SP1 update did not work the first time. I did not have this problem before the reinstallment. How do I fix this issue? Since I have read it is crucial to have it 10-15% left on it for recovery of the system.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

There are many reasons why more disk space is being used but not apparent including system volume info, page files, hidden files not shown in folder views, etc.

Get the following error message or a variation of it whenever I log on to my computer or open virtually any application.

"WScript.exe - Bad Image
The application or DLL C:\WINNT\System32\mcenspc.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

Also, shortly after I started getting that error message, I started getting messages re: low disk space, which came out of nowhere.

Any advice?

A:Norton Ghost image disk space

If you do a clone, it's the size of the original partition. If you create an image file, it's a compressed image of the active part of the disk, and for that disk should be in the 20 gig size range. How big is the image file?

I have a 5 GB hard drive with 1 GB free space and a 1 GB flash drive. Utilizing Acronis True Image, I am unable to clone the entire hard drive because of limited free space. Using maximum compression, what individual files should I save to enable me to restore my computer after a crash? Would saving the entire Windows Folder or specific Windows files suffice?

It is understood that all individual programs could not be part of this restore. Program data is currently stored on floppy disks so this is not a problem.

I gave Acronis True Image Home version a free trial. After I decided it was not something I wanted I did a add/remove of the program.
My hard drive is 144 gbs. Acronis put some stuff in a reserved area that is not accessable to me and my HD shows 84gbs total.

How can I get that space back to use? I made an assumption that using add/remove would put things back like they were. Obviously I was wrong.

Would downloading the free trial version again allow me to get at that space? Or is there a simpler way.
Thanks

A:How do I get back disk space that Acronis True Image reserved.

You should be able to reverse the secure zone settings by using the trial version of the program.

Have you looked in your Disk Management console to see if you're able to delete the reserved partition there? This would only solve part of the problem as you will then need another program to merge or resize the free space into your existing partition.

I'd probably go with the first option as Acronis should do all the hard work for you with a few clicks

Hi and welcome

We could use a screen shot of the drive D partition but probably your backups are stored there and you can delete the oldest to free up some space. Make sure you have another before you delete it. That partition is tiny bTW 9 gigs is way too small to be effective.

I' ve put several photos on my MSN space, I've still got room to spare off the 30 MB that's provided.

A few days ago I noticed they had changed the layout - and since then whenever I press "add photo" (or whatever its called - mine is in Danish) nothing happens. I know from my freinds that a new window should open which allows you to browse your system files - either that or a downloader for "MS photo tool" or something like that.

I've tried while turning off Norton Internet Security and to my knowledge there's no other secret popup stopper running in the background somewhere.

I've tried searching the net for a solution but came across nothing and it really bugs me because I have a stack of new photos for my friends to see from the latest kegger.

I am currently running the latest version of Itunes. I currently have loaded on the Ipod 4811 tunes in 31.8 GB. I realize the low number of plays is likely as a result of my selected bit rates which are usually larger than 128. What concerns me is that Itunes advises that I have 5.23 gigs free (the approximate 3 gigs outstanding likely used by the operating system) but I am unable to load any more music or whatever into the remaining 5.23 gigs. Hopefully I am explaining my predicament correctly and one of your experts or viewers may have some insight as to what is going on.

Okay, I am sure that what I wish to do is possible. I just don't have the faintest clue as to how to go about it. I watch DVD's on my PC. (a Dell, with window XP home edition and the Inter-Actual Dvd player). What I would love to be able to do is to pause the DVD playback and capture the screen image as a graphic file. So I can make them my background or things like that.

A friend who knows PCs told me that it is just NOT possible on my machine because Microsoft has designed the operating system not to allow this. However, I found a company that offers a program that is supposed to be able to do what I want. (Herculesoft, the DVDgo Pro). But before I drop $50 on this...

Can I do what I want on my PC? and what do I need to do to be able to do so?

thanks for any advise. I'm about ready to pull my hair out over this.

What would be my best option.

Alright, I have some sort of conflict, that is not listed in device manager, between a HP-PSC500 parallel port printer and a Kodak USB digital Camera. The printer and scanner works fine useing the HP software. The camera won't transfer pictures at all. No errors in device manager, but under the "scanners and cameras" applet, the properties of both the scanner and the camera shows as unavailable or disconnected. It's not a USB problem as all other USB stuff works fine, it's not a IRQ problem, It's not a twain problem, It's some kinda image capture problem.

Anyway, I'd like to delete and reinstall all files and registry settings related to video capture. Also, I'd like to try to find any unused capture drivers installed on the machine and delete them. Is there any way to do this without reinstalling? This machine is used for audio production and has 200+gigs of critical stuff on it. Fixing all the midi apps and sound stuff is a pain on installation.

Thank god this isn't my machine.

Essentially you cannot do this with the software/programs these companies provide. They are designed to upload and download while storing on the hdd. In order to get copies into the cloud and off of your hdd then you should use the websites of dropbox, google drive, etc.. and sign in there, following with what you want uploaded. Hey!

I've You tube this and they all do it the same way. However, it just hasn't worked for me.

This is the basic instructions:

First of all, put the image file (eg. test.jpg) in the root of the Flash drive. Then create a text file there and rename it desktop.ini to the root of the flash drive. Make sure it's not a .txt file.

Then open the desktop.ini file in notepad and enter the following content:

Code:

[ExtShellFolderViews]
{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}={BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}
[{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}]
IconArea_Image=test.jpg

Step 2: Refresh your flash drive.
I'm running Windows 10. Does the USB have to be blank for it to work or is there simply another way??

I have recently joined a community forum. I have read the directions on how to post an image, but I don't understand the directions. I have dealt with uploading at other sites, but it was a much easier process.
Can someone help me understand what I should do to accomplish uploading an image using their way of doing it? I would really like to get this on ASAP, before the snowstorm hits tomorrow! (it's a funny snow related pic)

This is what the site directions say in their FAQ:

How do I add an image to my message?

In order to add an image to your message or your signature, you must have the image already available on a web server. This can be an image on your own personal web page, for example. To place an image within a message, simply use the following Markup Tag:

[image]http://www.url_to_image.com/image_name.gif[/image]

For example, if you have an image called cateye.gif and its available from your own website at http://www.mywebsite.com/pics, then you would use the following image markup:

[image]http://www.mywebsite.com/pics/cateye.gif[/image]

You can do the same for your signature. Click the option found on any page. Then, under the Main Configuration heading, click on "Personal Information, email, password...". Look for the Signature box, and enter your desired information, including any images/markup as above.

Note: To keep the forums loading quickly for everyone, it is recommended that you do not exceed 35k for your image size.

Also did chckdsk /f which give me 0 errors, tried to search in hidden and OS files, but there arent any big files, diskcleanup with system files cleaned about 1 gb.
Then I downloaded winDirStat which shoved me that I only have 43Gb of data on my c: drive. I don't have any ideas what could be done to increase free disk space. Please help

A:Windows show low disk space, win dir stat shows different space

In My Computer, click the Tools menu then on Folder Options then click the View tab and tick "Show hidden files and folders" then untick "Hide protected system files and folders", click Apply and OK.

Then, go into c:\ windows and delete all the files in blue which statr with a $ symbol. They are only folders that once contained Windows Updates you no longer need to keep. Then scroll down to the Software Distribution folder and to Download. Empty that folder.

Look in Control Panel>Power options and make sure Hibernation is turned off then in System, adjust the size of System Restore so it takes up only 4% of the disk space.

Restart the computer and see hwo much space you freed up.

Am I the only one to notice and complain over this in W8.1.

This morning a new Adobe Flash update has appeared, KB3079777. The update is sized at 17.9mb. Nothing is running on the PC, its idle and with no disk activity. Free space is 55.4GB. I apply the update and free space immediately falls to 54.9gb. This behaviour is consistent with every such patch applied. Now over time, that space will return which suggests that something else is going on here. But what ?

A:Free disk space & space used by a single Flash Update.

Looks like it is just me then. Today brought a 4.6Mb W8.1>W10 computability update. My free space changed from 55.2Gb to 54.7Gb.

Sounds about right. Ho hum....

Would appreciate any advice. Please keep it simple as I am not an expert. Instructions in the Lexmark booklet say to go to "Finder" to find Lexmark printer but it is not in my Finder app and I don't know how to get it there. Thanks, Steve

I am starting a data entry service business this month, and am looking for image capture and indexing software that I might consider using. I am also looking for software that can digitize x-ray films.

Perhaps someone has some experience in this area that they will share with me?

I am also looking for disabled veterans who could work in our Roswell, Georgia location now, and perhaps later we will use some home workers.

I'm attempting to follow this guide to capture a Windows 7 image:

http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles-tutorials/windows-7/Deploying-Windows-7-Part10.html

I have a test PC with Windows 7 installed on it waiting to be captured.

I've installed the MDT 2013 Update 2 and Windows ADK for Windows 10 to my technician PC.  Unlike this guide, however, I have no tree under 'Deployment Shares'.  So I have no option to import an OS.

This seems to be a stumbling block to actually capture an image.  Is there something I'm missing?  Is there something that needs to be configured that I don't know about?  I'm still learning this whole process so it's entirely possible there's
something glaringly obvious I don't see.

Hi- Single Site, single domain. I have WDS running on Windows Server 2012 Standard. Have been using WDS for quite a while now without issue. Created a new image from scratch, applied all updates, installed apps.
Ran sysprep (successful) and rebooted to initiate an image capture. Selected the volume, selected the WDS server, and storage group. Ran Net Use to map a network drive to copy the image file to. Capture started and gets to 28% and then stalls. Left it overnight
and still at 28%. Tried it twice with the same results.

What's going on here? Where should I look to find info on what the cause might be?

Thanx

Hi everyone,

I don't know if I'm in the right section but I been trying to deploy an image to a new model pc which I captured the image from an older model pc used Windows AIK added the chipset drivers offline and did a commit and now I'm trying to deploy this updated image to this new model pc and it doesn't boot into Windows Vista but it will work on the same model pc, althought if I sysprep the image again it will work on the new model, why is that, it's almost seems like the chipset drivers did get installed but then if I sysprep it works. The reason why I'm doing this is because a client has alot of applications and configurations which I want to avoid building her pc from scratch and just capture the image and the chipset drivers offline commit it and then being able to deploy it to this new model pc. It's odd because I'm sure I have done this in the past and for a reason or another it doesn't work.

Thank you for your help.

Mark

A:capture image to re-deploy to a new model pc.

The most common reason for an image to fail after Sysprep has been run is the installation of security software. Many security and anti-malware applications will protect the system files which Sysprep interacts with and the resulting image will fail, you may wish to disable or remove the anti-virus software before running Sysprep.

However, where your image will boot properly on the reference system, I would look first at other drivers beyond the chipset driver which are necessary for boot. Most specifically, I would look at the storage driver, especially if you are receiving a 0x0000007B error on boot. There are instructions available for preparing an existing image for migration to a new storage mode included in this Microsoft Support article.

Hi
I am having trouble with Lab 4 for the 70-680. I have run sysprep on my Win 7 machine and created a WinPE boot disk but I can't boot WinPE boot image. I think it's 4.3 under Create WinPE Boot Image in the lab where you have to boot the image you created. I can't burn the image to a CD - I think I may have done an error before I did the sysprep where it shuts down your machine. I think I didn't point it to the hard disk in command prompt - I followed all the commands in the Labs word for word.
If anyone can help then I would greatly appreciate it.

I think I have figured out why I'm losing my internet connection so much, but I cant figure out how to fix it or why its actually happening.

Here is a good example, I go to a site like Gameshark or Gamespot and either while the main page is loading or if I click on a game I want to learn about while the images on the page load my internet connection gets lost.

Has this problem happend to anyone else? While your computer loads images the connection suddenly is lost?

Anyways any help is great, I've been dealing with this problem for months now and I'm about to shoot my computer.

If you dont know the answer to the question do you know a # that might or a website that could help?

Please download HijackThis. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Post the whole log file here. Do not fix anything since most of them listed there are harmless (some are system required). This program will help us determine if there is any spyware/malware on your computer.

I'm operating off a peer-to-peer network where other computers are not having this issue; however, tech support from the SQL server site insists it's a firewall/AV issue.
I'm unable to upload an image to a proprietary ASP. I get the error message "SMUC exception, message = Object reference not set to an instance of an object".
My workstation is not running Windows Firewall (and when I attempt to, it cuts me off from the network). I have AVG 8.0 running. Another computer on the same network has no problem uploading images, although it's running AVG 7. However, my home computer has no problem, and I'm running AVG 8 there. I'm running no other anti-malware apps.
My guess is that I have a compatibility issue with one of my other apps, such as Quickbooks. However, tech support insists that the problem is my AV or firewall!
I ran comparison Hijack This files on the workstation that had no problems and mine, and the only differences I can find are my UPS software, KBD, a java console and QB.
Anyone have any ideas?

I have a computer that has their "c: drive" almost full (221 gb drive). Every time it boots a message comes up saying "Windows created a temporary paging file on your computer because of a problem that occurred with your paging file configuration when you started your computer. The total paging file size for all disk drives may be somewhat larger than the size you specified." So first I tried adjusting the Virtual Memory BUT, I only have a drive C and a previous drive that is no longer there. So I am not for sure what drive to set my virtual memory to because there is not enough space on C drive with it being almost completely full and the one drive is non-existent. I am sure its a easy fix and im missing a step but i appreciate the help guys   Thanks!

A:Low Disk Space "Temporary File Space Error"

I would type Run in the search box. Start it and then in the Run box type %temp%. This will open up the temp folder for the current user. These files are safe to delete. Log in to every other user and use the same command. Once those are deleted, use Ccleaner to clear all the browser cache then set the Paging file to 1.5 times the RAM on the system.

Setting up a new box, Vista sadly to say. Installed MS Office XP Pro and get the following error when closing MS Word ONLY. Excel saves without any errors.

The disk is full. Free some space on this drive, or save the document on another disk. Try one of the following:
*Close any unneeded documents, programs, and windows.
*Save the document on another disk.

I've moved the file location and same error. I cleaned up the drive including removing all restore point except the last one.

Now this thing has a 250 gig drive but it is also used for security in a mini mart with 8 cameras. There are about 145 Gigs of video from the security cameras on this box. At this time I am just setting it up, no cameras are connected, and the security program hasn't been set up yet. I just moved the files from the old drive to this one. BTW the old drive crashed.

I've tried the detect and repair in MS Word and no help. I have uninstalled MS Office and reinstalled and no help and even went into Properties and set the user up on quota with no limits and still no help.

So now I am at a loss and have no idea what to try next. Really don't want to delete the security files because it took 6 hours to transfer them to this computer and unless all else fails this isn't a option I want to use.

Now on the old box, which had XP Pro this, was not a problem so on Vista it should not be either but then Vista is a MS Software so this is understandable. Actually, the old box had a 15... Read more

Hi

We just placed a new Dell Dimension. It has a 40 Gig hard drive.

User keeps getting this message:

DISK FREE SPACE HAS DROPPED BELOW THE MINIMUM THRESHOLD. FREE UP SPACE ON YOUR HARD DISK DRIVE BY:

1. BACKING UP YOUR DATA TO A TAPE BACKUP, ZIP OR NETWORK DRIVE
2. DELETE UNUSED FILES

IF YOU ARE UNSURE WHICH FILES ARE SAFE TO MOVE OR DELETE, CONTACT YOUR HELP DESK OR CONSULT YOUR SOFTWARE MANUALS.

This machine has over 30 gigs of free space. It's impossible that there is a disk space issue.

Any ideas what could be causing this? Some sort of mis-communication or setting?

Thanks

A:Disk Space Error - 30 Gigs free space

It should be a configuration setting. I'd call Dell if you just got this machine. Their "english" is a little suspect though. It sounds like some hokey Dell software reminding you to back up your drive. When does the message appear? After it boots?

Since the most recent update of the Sprout Workspace I have been unable to capture any images or use the document capture. I was able to roll back the updates two days ago and the system worked fine. When I started the computer the next day the update went in again automatically and now rolling back to the old Workspace is no longer an option when I look at the recovery points.  When I try to capture an image I get the following error message: "Request to capture Moment failed with new HPPC_RESULT value as [1.0.d.a0088888] (HPPC_ERROR_EMPTY) If I hit OK and close Sprout and then wait a little the light above flashes the way it should to take an image about 30 seconds to a minute after I tried to actually get an image leading me to believe there is some kind of excessive delay in image capture which is the reason there is no moment captured when the system is looking for it. I believe you have a big problem with your most recent update that is causing. I use this Sprout computer with my students and I need the capability to scan with this ASAP. Right not it is just another computer rather than the all in one device it was bought to be, and that is disappointing.

Hello everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has run into a issue where you create a image of a machine after doing the ctrl+shift+F3 command and installed all your software and tweaks and then when I run sysprep and upload it to FOG (our imaging solution) all seems fine.

When I download it to another machine it gets to the basic setup screen asking country,etc...and it reboots....then when I go back to the reference machine it does the same thing now.

What is sysprep doing to the machine that causes this to happen???

Yes the machine is a Dell Optiplex 990 and is not on the compatibility chart, however it does not error out when I load it normally, just when I am trying to image it and using sysprep.

Any help would be grateful on this. I have been scratching my head over this for 2 days now and even though it is the beginning of summer here at our district I would like to get it done soon.

Hello. I have an issue.

I want to capture an Linux OS custom image or a fresh one and want to use WDS to complete the job. Could it be done?

I know I can use WDS from server to deploy WIN 7 or anyother Win OS to other systems. But can I use the same service to deploy Linux OS to other new systems and how can I go around in capturing the Linux OS image.

I don't want to use any third party application to capture and deploy both WIN and Linux images. I can use SysPrep to capture Windows image, but how do I go about capturing Linux image?

Is there an in-built app for Linux to capture an image like SysPrep (for WIN)???

Many years ago I had a webcam and bought software that allowed me to automatically capture an image every so often and upload it to a website. Now I have Microsoft Studio webcam and it does not come with any software that I can set up to automatically capture images and upload them to the website.

I know there is software out there that can do this and I have been searching the Internet to find it. So far I have had to restore my system three times. It seems that the software I find comes with a bunch of crap software that even if you tell it NOT to install, the crap software gets installed too. I figure that any software that comes with crap is crap by association; I don't even bother looking at the webcam software, I go straight to restore and get rid of everything.

I am hoping that someone here can provide me with a link to good webcam software. I might even consider buying another webcam if it came with the software.

A:Need webcam software to capture image and post to website

You can use reputable software like virtualdub (Welcome to virtualdub.org! - virtualdub.org), vlc (https://www.videolan.org/vlc/) or even ffmpeg (FFmpeg) to capture snapshots from your webcam. This can be done via command line.

For VLC, the command line should look like :

Code:
vlc --dshow-vdev="Monitor Webcam" --dshow-size=640x480 -V dummy --intf=dummy --dummy-quiet --video-filter=scene --no-audio --scene-path=D:\temp --scene-format=jpeg --scene-prefix=snap --scene-replace --run-time=1 --scene-ratio=24 "dshow://" vlc://quit

This captures 1 second and saves it as jpg images on D:\temp
More help on command line options : http://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_command-line_help

For Virtualdub (much easier) :

Code:
vdub /capture /capdevice Monitor Webcam /capfile D:\temp\video.avi /capstart 2s /x

Same as above but saves it as an avi video file.

For ffpmeg :

Code:
ffmpeg -f dshow -i video="Monitor Webcam" -c copy raw.avi \-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -t 1 -crf 25 D:\temp\video.mp4

This saves as a mp4 video file (h264 format)

Code:
ffmpeg -f dshow -i video="Monitor Webcam" -t 1 ?r 25 D:\temp\image%d.jpg

This saves as jpeg images.
More info here : http://sonnati.wordpress.com/2011/08...ing-?-part-ii/

Replace Monitor Webcam with the correct name for your webcam as seen by direct show. This can be done via ffmpeg too :

Code:
ffmpeg -list_devices true -f dshow -i dummy

Hello,

I have frequently received the "Low Disk Space" error, even after deleting several files on my PC. I went to Settings-System-Storage, and in my "Other" folder it says there's 648GB of space being taken up, but when I click on it, none of the subfolders show that any of them have that many GBs in them. Thank you for the help!

I have configured a stand alone windows 2012 Std. OS with WDS, set up all the necessary items
loaded both the boot.wim and image.wim into wds server.
the system deploys the standatrd win7 Pro image without issue.
The problem comes when I try to use the image capture wizard.
The client laptop boots to pxe without issue I get the screen that  lets me choose  what I want to load
when I choose the capture image item it loads as normal,(as the deploy does except that all that happens is I get a black screen with a white arrow cursor. the screen never turns blue like you would expect and the image capture wizard never appears.
I have followed all of the steps on the WDS set up page for creating a image capture boot file however as I said it never appears.
Can someone assist?

Hi all,

This is my first time ever posting here, mainly because I've almost never run into an issue I couldn't solve on my own or via documentation on the web. I run a web hosting service and also an image hosting service, and have been hosting/building sites since 1996. Before that I spent a few years as a systems integrator (fancy term for tech who builds computers from scratch) for a big computer company.

I have a customer on my image hosting service (I didn't post the URL because I don't want anyone to percieve this as spam) who has been with me almost 2 years. She has always used WindowsXP / AOL and has never had a problem.

Last week her PC crashed and she got a new laptop. Now she cannot upload photos to the service - it gives her an "Upload Failed: possible reason- File type not supported." error. (that error normally only happens when a user tries to upload something other than a .gif, .jpg, or .png. which are the only acceptable file formats on the image server).

I had her email a .jpg file that she was trying to upload, I logged in to her account, and it uploaded perfectly for me. Also, no other customers of my service are having this problem.

So now I know one thing for sure - the problem is on her end and something to do with her new system.

Then it occurred to me that AOL's proprietary image compression feature tends to turn any image into .art or .bmp. So I'm going to call her and suggest that she disable AOL's... Read more

I'm trying to use True Image 11 to image the system partition of my laptop. When I get to the place where it asks me to select the partition to image, there are two: the main NTFS system partition and a small recovery partition. Should I select both or just the system partition? I have heard that the recovery partition must be in a certain place on the HD to be usable. If so, and if I needed to restore the image , the recovery partition might not be restored to the same place and would therefore be unusable. Any advice on how to proceed here? Thanks.

A:Using Acronis True Image to image disk with hidden recovery partition

you should image it to the recovery partition, although it may not be a good idea to have it on the same HDD
I myself use an external drive which is probably the safest

Hi peeps and thanks in advance for any help you can give me! My laptop is doing my head in thanks to its new-found ability to chew up free disk space on my C:/ drive. Not sure if this problem has been on-going for a few weeks or something, but it's come to a head now!! A few bits of info that might be handy: Vista Home Premium 32bit, laptop is about three years old, 160GB HDD partitioned into a C: and a D: (both with approx 70GB total space according to Properties).
The story goes like this:

1) Got low disk space warning pop up (something like 300MB left!) - thought that this was entirely plausible since my wife keeps taking videos of our little baby on her camera and saving them on the lappy!
2) Decided to move some User folders from the C: to the D: and in the process moved about 5GB which then freed up several gig of space on the C: drive. Then I noticed that this was consistently dropping and the HDD light was flickering all the time, even when the laptop was not in use.
3) Updated and ran all the following programs: AVG 2011 Free, CCleaner, CWShredder, Malwarbytes - and nothing untoward reported.
4) Booted into safe mode and ran the programs again and still nothing reported.
5) Accessed VSS records via a command prompt and this was set to UNBOUNDED maximum capacity and showing as 16GB in use on disk, so revised this down to 12GB (a cautious approach, I admit!) and freed up a bit more space but this again is slowly being reduced.
6) Ran WinDirStat and this is showing ... Read more

I've had my Acer Aspire 5310 laptop for a few months now with Windows Vista. I have an 80GB hard drive, partitioned into two drives as default.

Until now I've never noticed that the numbers didn't add up. I know when you buy and 80GB hard drive, it should actually show up as less due to bits and bytes and what not (80GB=74GB roughly) but I found something fishy in Disk Management. There is a drive showing up with no letter assigned to it which is nearly 10GB in size and after doing the math it accounts for the 10GB i lack after adding my two 32GB hard drives together.

So I have 2 x 32GB drives plus this weird drive which is 10.

I have attached the screenshot of disk management.

If anyone knows what is going on here I would very much appreciate it!

Cheers, Darren (newbie)

A:Problem with Vista Disk Management/Being robbed of hard disk space!

has this just recently appeared? This is a longshot, but if you have Kaspersky lap installed then that could be the problem. It autologs roughly 10 gigs of data without your permission, it is easy to get rid of, but annoying none the less.
However this doesn't seem to likely as what seems to have happened here is that you have accidently split one of your hard drives into two. Either that or a program like deamon tools has created a virtual drive. Do you use either deamon tools or alcohol 120?

I recently had problems with BSOD. I was able to fix the underlying cause, but this got me nervous. So I am thinking of starting a program of periodically creating system images of my laptop - both the C & D drives - so that I could restore my system in the event of hardware failure. Make sense?

I have some questions to make sure that I understand the underlying System Image & Repair disk process, & also when I would use a Windows 7 ISO image.

(1) Am I correct that when I restore from a system image of both C & D drives, that both drives are **totally** recreated?

(2) Will I still have a legal copy of Windows 7 when I restore using the system image?

(3) Should I make sure that I have a repair disk before I restore from system image? If so, why?

(4) Is it necessary to periodically recreate a repair disk? Or once a repair disk is created, it is good for any future repair that may be needed?

(5) There are sites where one can download a Windows 7 ISO image.
    (i) Am I correct that restoring from this image just installs Windows 7 and no other programs?
(ii) Will I still have a legal copy of Windows 7 when I restore using a Windows 7 ISO image?
(iii) When would I restore using a Windows 7 ISO image rather than restoring from a System Image?
(iv) What is the recommended site to download a Windows 7 ISO image?

Users have (at least) two ways to go to overcome those unforeseen problems that occur.

a.  Make clones of the hard drive reflecting the O/S.

b.  Use backup software which creates a file which can be restored, item for item.

I have done both at some time...right now, I prefer making a clone of my O/S (dual-boot) partitions...while backing up data files on extra hard drives I have lying around.  User preference determines whether a user backs up...or creates a cloned image.

You might take a look at Macrium Reflect, a program that seems to do each pretty well.

Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download - http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx

Those ISO files of Windows 7...are covered by this pronouncement here at BC:  Recommending ISOs of Windows Recovery Discs or pre-made ISOs of WinPE-BartPE - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic382841.html .

In addition to being illegal...those .iso files...or any file NOT obtained from a legal, authorized source...are subject to reflect code, errors, malware...or something else that the user has not bargained for, IMO.  If I were a malware misanthrope...that would be my favorite vector...giving an unknowing public something "for free" that they have no desire to legitimately obtain.

im using one called "Piriform Defraggler"....and before that i used the default one that came with the os...and it said that it was 0% defragmented..but when i analyzed it with the other program..it said it was like 64% fragmented......

Hello Members!I have a Windows 8 OS backup on a Pen-drive & mine is a branded PC from HP~ AIO make.Is it possible to format the entire Hard-drive to reclaim the Space used by Recovery Image desk (D:)? Can someone please help guide me on how to format an entire Hard-drive (both C: & D:) in context to an HP Desktop environment?Help will be sincerely appreciated.Thank you.

A:Is it possible to recover the Hard-disk space utilised by Recovery Disk(D:)?

Yes. But not-recommended.The recovery partition  is the only way you have to repair your system in the event of a failure. The computer makers now want you to use that recover if ever a major failure makes your computer unusable. If you need more storage for your photos and videos, consider these methods:A. Use DVD discs to store photos and videos.B. Use a cloud service to save your most important information. C. Purchase in economic external hard drive for extra storage. It would be a b ad idea to format our hard drive unless there was something urgent.

Hi,

I have a windows 8.1 machine with a simple mirror (two disks). Due to the lack of sata ports I can't add more disks so naturally, I have to increase the size of my disks in the mirror. Can I remove one disk, replace it with a larger, sync up the mirror and
then repeat with the other disk? I can't see any option to remove a disk in control panel though

Thanks!

I'm not sure how I ended up like this, but using Computer Manager > Disk Manager, I ended up with my disk 0 as follows:

System Reserved
85MB NFTS
Healthy (System, Active, Primary partition)

16MB
Unallocated

System (C)
139.64 GB NTFS
Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)

In addition, I have four other hard disks, and they are correctly formatted and partitioned (one partition each -- which is what I want with disk 0).

Objective: reclaim the unallocated 16MB and add it to the healthy section; likewise, reclame the "System Reserved" and also add it to the healthy section.

I'm rebuilding the system and don't have much software, so I could reload Windows 7 (Professional), but I'd rather avoid reloading those 100 fixes!

What should I do?

A:Using Disk Manager, need to unshrink and reclaim Disk 0 space

Just extend System Reserved into the 16mb space which was shrunk from it: Partition or Volume - Extend.

The rest looks correct although it would be best to see a screenshot of your maximized Disk Mgmt map with listings.

Make sure none other than SysReserved are marked Active.

Hi,

I have received my laptop with a 250GB HDD partitioned into two primary partitions (well there is actually four with only 512MB called NVCACHE and another of 1GB as EISA Configuration). One of the partitions is a system, boot, page file ... partition containing the OS (Win Vista Home Premium and contains about 35GB space) and programs. The other is a partition for all the data (~198GB). I am now starting to run low on disk space on the OS partition (<3GB) and wanted to add some more space. I tried to use Disk Management but this did not work because there is no adjacent unallocated space on the same disk next to the OS partition. There is only space at the end of the data disk partition, which I cannot move to the OS partition (at least I do not know how).

Is there a way to increase the disk space for the OS partition? Both partitions have following set out:

Layout: Simple
Type: Basic
File System: NTFS (except for the small NVCAHE which is FAT32 and the EISA does not have any File system)
Status: Healthy

regards

Pete

Hey Guys,
I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what my problem is. Basically, we had an issue with the computer and so we force restarted it at one point about a month ago. After that, we started getting requests to run a check disk after every time the computer was rebooted. The check disks take 20+ hours for some reason on this computer, and we cannot afford to have it down that long since it is a work computer. We cancelled the disk check and afterwards we noticed that the hard drive was filling itself up. The computer has a 450gb hard drive and after a couple of hours it was telling us that there were only 2mb of space left (we have maybe 20gb of data on the computer total). This is the point in which I stepped in and ran a disk cleanup and deleted all of the old system restore points. It gave us about a gb of space so I left it alone (I didn't realize at this point what the problem was, just thought it was too much stuff on the comp). The next day the computer's user told me it was the same problem and I knew that she wasn't using all of the space that I had found so I checked it out again. Once again, it was giving me the low disk space error. I decided to download and install Windirstat to see what was taking up all the space. When I run Windirstat, it tells me that 430gb of the 450gb of space is "Unknown". After that, I shut it down and let it run the check disk completely over the course of a weekend. It ran for about a week after... Read more

A:Windows 7 No Disk Space after Disk Check Cancellation

Likely the file system was messed up by the forced restart, a rare but possible occurence.

So the unknown used space may be failed attempts to copy data over to repair the file system. This is why it's always advised to back up data before doing a Disk Check and of course data should always be backed up anyway against HD failure - which itself cannot be ruled out here.

I would test the HD with the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, followed by a Disk Check done from the Win7 disk or Repair CD's System Recovery Options Command Line which doesn't depend upon the OS on a potentially scrambled file system.

Last week i installed windows XP Pro on my desktop. It has a 250GB hard drive which has 1 partition (C drive only), NTFS offcourse. I did not format it while installing windows as it has lots of stuff in it. There’s over 50GB free and i’ve been removing a lot of stuff from the hard drive to make up some space but in windows i get an error message that i don’t have enough disk space, the disk cleanup utility runs cant free up space and i can not install or copy anything in the hard drive. I’ve noticed that when i deleted some file holding (or not) the shift key the free size goes lower although the files are being deleted from the hard disk.

Anyone has a solution for that beside moving my data to somewhere else and formatting it?

thanks

That doesn't work. Can someone explain to me in English (plain) how to correct this problem.

Do you have the D: drive selected in system restore? If your computer is saving restore points for D: this could cause it to use up disk space for no apparent reason.Look for a folder called "System Volume Information" at the root of D: I am assuming you don't use the D: drive to store any personal files or swap files...
