Solved: Netgear Router DG834G

Q: Solved: Netgear Router DG834G

I've been trying for days to log into my router to try to enable encryption, http://192.168.0.1

Each time I get ''log in failed'' System Authentication Failed. Please contact your system administrator for the correct information

I've tried everything suggested on the page below, nothing works.

http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101210.asp

My Internet connection through the Router is fine, no problems, 48.0Mpbs at the moment.

I had previously phoned the support line twice because the encryption code they gave me didn't work, all it did was stop me from connecting to the internet, no joy there , they just talked me through exactly what's on the troubleshooting page above, suggested it was a problem with the wireless card.

I'ts since then I can't connect to the Router.

I've spoken to IBM support, ( lovely people logged the call and phoned me back, cheapest support call ever )
we've tested everything and they assure me it's a problem with the Router, only now I can't get in to change anything.

I've mailed Netgear Support twice, once Saturday then again Tuesday, no reply yet so I was hopeing someone here may have a few ideas.

It's a new IBM Thinkpad R51, running WXP Pro.

Hi,
I just connected a Netgear DG834G Router to my system and after a little difficulty with IP addresses etc. got it going. The only problem is I don't seem to be able to log into either my yahoo or hotmail account. I get to the account name and password screen and then it justs hangs. Any suggestions on possible router settings which might be giving me an issue? I've never set up any security settings for routers before so it could be something simple. Probably. Hopefully.
Many thanks,
eVIL R
After trying altering MTU values etc and setting firewall rules with no sucess, in the end I powered off my router for about a minute and rebooted my PC. Now I have no problem connecting. PC's - gotta love 'em. Thanks for the help anyway JonathanAnon.

A:Solved: Netgear DG834G router, fine except no yahoo or hotmail login possible

No yahoo or hotmail, eh?

Not sure about this, as you dont give a lot of details, but off the top of my head this sounds like SSL (Secure Socket Layer) may be blocked at the router. Can you get into another other secure sites, i.e. Paypal, ebay, amazon etc etc.

Oh yeah, if you find that this is the case (and you cant access ANY secure sites) open your router "Control Interface", probably through your Internet Browser, and configure the router to allow TCP traffic out on port 443 (SSL).

Let me know how you get on.

regards,
Jonathan

Can somebody please help me with configuring my Netgear DG834G wireless router?
I am connected to a LAN (via a HUB and cables, no wireless connections) which has 10 computers connected to it. My router is connected via Ethernet cable to my PC and my network cable runs from my router to the HUB. The wireless connections are disabled and secure, not possible to access my router via wireless connections.

I (have a internet account which I share with 2 other people) and I would like to give internet access via my router to 3 computers only (my computer and two others on the network), the rest must not be able to access my internet, although, The rest may be able to access my hard drive and shared folders.

How can I block all the computers from accessing my internet, except the 3 specific computers?
Although I want to block all the computers from accessing the internet I would still like to give them access to my hard drive/files on my computer.

My internet connection currently needs me to double-click a desktop icon to connect with a username and password. But the reason I need to block the other 7 computers is that somehow someone is gaining access to my router (by accident or maliciously) and using my bandwidth. It seems that in some way it is possible to access my internet account via the LAN and router without a username and password.

I'm fairly computer literate, but do not know much about Routers and wireless routers/connections.

Thanx for any and all help.

Hey all,

Not being a hardware type guy I'm having trouble finding any definitive info on this one.

Can anyone tell me for sure if the abovementioned router is capable of supporting ADSL2?

Can't find specs for it anywhere and even if I could it all reads like heiroglyphics to me.

Hi, Recently my Netgear stopped working, Stopped connecting to the internet. I woke up one day, And the internet light on the router was not on. I have tried 2 different Netgear Routers, The same Model but one is a V3 and the other is a V4, The same outcome, Both do not connect to the internet. I have a modem that was provided to me by my ISP, And that works fine and connects to the internet straight away. So I know for a fact I have not been disconected from the internet.

On the V3 Netgear DG834G, The Wireless Light comes on, The Power Light, And DSL, AND Internet Light, But it flashes orange first, Then goes green, But still no internet. On the V4, The internet light dosen't come on at all.

I've tried plugging my Router into my main phone line socket, And no luck there either.

Any help? Please.

Hello,

I have had this router for a few years and I have just moved it to the right place in the house, namely connected to the main phone socket... The desktop connected to the router via an ethernet cable is doing fine... Before I moved the router, my 2 wireless laptops were connecting fine as well... since I did this, they first showed limited connectivity, so I set the IP addresses up manually... they are now connecting to the network/router wirelessly, but I cannot connect to the internet; when I try to open Mozilla or Explorer, I get the message "server not found"... I tried everything, restarted the router, rebooted my laptops, but no luck... My operating system is Windows XP family on the desktop and Professional SP2 on the laptops ... any ideas would be welcome...
Thank you...

By "connecting" do you mean simply broadcasting on the same channel, or do you mean actually communicating with the router (confirmed by ping or accessing the configuration pages)?

Hello,
I have a broadband connection with Tiscali (UK) via a USB ADSL WAN adaptor modem. I have had over months now terrible problems with the connection dropping out. Sometimes it will stay up for a day, sometimes it's dropping every hour or so. Very annoying. What's more annoying is that it will not automatically reconnect. If you set it to redial automatically you get a no dial tone error message and you are forced to reboot to get the connection back up. If you leave it for more than an hour, then try to reconnect it usually will. This is not an automatically always on connection from the moment you turn your machine on, you have to manually open the connection. XP classes it as a dial up connection really with ADSL settings.

I've done everything Tiscali has suggested, all the obvious stuff (RJ11 cabling all the way to the modem instead of phone extension cable part of the way etc. etc.), but this is doing my head in now. Good and proper.

So, I've acquired a Netgear DG834G V2 router in the hope that I can get an always-on connection and if this doesn't solve the problem completely, at least if the connection drops out for whatever reason, when the connection comes back it will be resume automatically, so if I'm downloading or whatever it will just carry on.

But I've hit an immediate problem. I've already been using it as my network hub without any problems for a few weeks. But when I tried to go to http://192.168.0.1 as mentioned... Read more

So does that mean you have the IP of the "machine" (your PC??) manually set to 192.16.8.0.1? You need to change that (on the PC) to either be any IP addr, other than 192.168.0.1, in the same subnet or set the PC to automatically get IP from the router.
The DG834G factory setting should be DHCP server by default.

I have connected two pc's via the above router but cant view any web pages etc. It is a refurbished product so Netgear wont give me any phone support - what a load of c**p. The two pc's win2k and xp respectively.

I have checked with my ISP (Demon UK) and i am pinging (whatever that means) their server. i have enabled the connection icon in the task bar am can confirm packs are being sent and received.

My first query is - is the router faulty, the green adsl light disappears regularly is this a sign of a fault with the router. My adsl line is perfect with my previous speedtouch modem and never loses its connection. Do i need to remove the speedtouch program from my computers?

Thanks

I've just recently obtained this router, after my last suddenly broke, and it works just fine except when I try to connect to Xbox Live.
I have my Xbox 360 connected to my laptop via ethernet cable and have the laptop's wireless connection shared. This setup worked fine with my previous router.
I followed this guide to try and configure the router: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netgear/DG834G/Xbox_Live_360.htm
And still no joy.
I've also noticed that when I plug the ethernet cable into the laptop (when the Xbox is on), or turn on the Xbox whilst the cable is connected, the laptop loses its connection to the internet yet retains its connection to the router.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all,

Im trying to host a game of Borderlands for friends and I am using the router in the title.

I have setup port forwarding correctly, that I do know but people can not connect. I have also tried pinging the ports via a port checker and checking my router logs. The log shows the ping and says it matches the corresponding rule that I have setup for port forwarding, however it doesn't work when ingame.

My PC knowledge in general is fairly good (I think) but networking knowledge is pretty poor.

Router is setup as DHCP server as I have 4 laptops, desktop and a Wii in the house, my desktop (where I am hosting) has a static IP on the router network and I have a fixed IP from my ISP.

Any thoughts on what I am missing or doing wrong?

Thanks

Hi all,
Have a read and hope you can help.

This problem is driving me crazy!!!

Have a Netgear DG834Gv2 & Netgear WG311v2 .

Running W2k. When it is connected via ethernet it picks up a DHCP ip no problems but when i try and connect via the wireless it cannot get a DHCP IP. It ends up with the standad 169.x.x.x IP. It is how ever picking up the signal and is locked into that and has about a 70% signal strengh. That is not the problem. I have WEP security setup and using a paraphase. That is all ok but it just the DHCP pickup problem.

The interesting thing is that I have another machine running XP that picks up the DCHP ip no prob but the win2k mackine. Same settings and all.

The Win2k machine has had all patches and updates. It is basically a fresh install of win2k.

There has to be something that im missing or doing wrong.

Any help would be greatly apreciated. I know i can setup a static but thats not the way I want to go. I want to fix this problem.

I could install XP but thats a last resort.
Thanks in advance

setting the country and security level etc seems a bit flaky in this router, keeps losing settings, even after apply...sometimes the password option window doesnt appear.....I eventually got the settings to stick, logged out ( maybe this is the magic bit ) then logged in again and the settings remained....not sure what the tick box Set as WAP actually does !!

anyway, the security must be the same for WAP and router, my Virging superhubac hadSecurity Mode
WPA Auto

WPA2-PSK[AES]

WPA-PSK[TKIP]

WPA/WPA2 Enterprise

Disable

whereas
the DG834G V3 has
not sure what i can chose as the same as the WPA PSK (TKIP) appears not to be selectable on the virgin hub...
any ideas please ?

A:Netgear DG834G as a WAP

strangely enough my virgin hub seems to rvert to WPA auto each time the hub is turnd off and on again.....set hub to WPA PS and it worked fine, even managed to connect another WAP from the first WAP ( daisy chained ) and workd fine...
the only strange thing is that if i then remove the WAP devices and plug directly into my laptop ( as I did when setting them up ) I am unable to communicate with them....using their new IP adresses I assigned.....I can log out and in ok, until they are connected to the system, once removed I cant connect with either of them.....cant think why.....not an issue, just reset to default and then make changes SSID etc.....

Making changes to the wireless settings on this router is difficult, often the WPA password box is missing, then it forgets the settings, seem to need to log out and in several times, before it remembers them...odd behaviour

Have you looked in the settings on your router at home? Make sure it is set to allow connections? Do you have WEP encryption enabled? If so, is your laptop set up to send the proper authorization key?

Your manual should tell you how to access the router settings with your web browser.

I have a Netgear DG834G wireless ADSL router which I use to connect to the internet on a desktop PC about 20 feet away.

It has been running perfectly for nearly a year but has suddenly stopped being able to pick up a signal. It can sometimes 'see' the router and connects and then the signal goes again. I have no new electrical equipment causing it problems and none of my neighbours have any wireless kit.

I have even brought the router to the PC and put it besides my PC but now when I scan it doesn't even find the router in range. I have tried resetting the router and reinstalling the drivers for the card but to no avail.

I am convinced the router is faulty.

Any ideas please?

Hi there - first time poster. I've looked around on the forums but have yet to find anyone with the exact problem I've been experiencing so any help would be appreciated.

I am attempting to set up a wireless network including two laptops (Wireless) and a PC (DSL) using AOL silver and a Netgear DG834G router.

Having followed both the Netgear and AOL startup guides and connecting the network up as recommended, I am finding that the DSL connection to the PC works fine, and that the laptops both recognise a good/excellent connection from around the house, recieving 54mbps.

However my problem arises that no internet applications work on the laptops such as internet explorer, firefox, or messenger; it is as though there is no connection despite the wireless applications recognising the connection as described above.

Plugging the laptops into the router via DSL results in them working fine and recognising the connection and working as normal; it is just when I attempt wireless.

Another problem is that once the laptops are "connected" to the network, the PC stops connecting to the internet in the normal manner, instead, bringing up the 'page unrecognised' screen (i'm sure you know the one!)

I appreciate that I have probably left out several vital details so please request any more information you require.

Many thanks

You have to power cycle the modem when switching the device connected to it. When having problems like now, unplug modem and router, wait at least 10 minutes, power up modem and then after a minute power up the router.

If still no go, look in router status or logs for any hints. Then it's probably time to discuss with your ISP's tech support.

A:Solved: Can I share bandwidth between users on DG834G Router?

You would need a more advanced (and more expensive) router that had specific Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities to limit and balance Internet traffic between connected computers.

Make sure that you are using at least WEP (WPA is better) encryption for the wireless access to the router. That will prevent anyone nearby from accidentally borrowing some of your bandwidth.

Hi,

I am stumped. Netgear modem arrived today and I am trying to install in place of the Frontier phone company supplied Siemens SE567 so I can stop paying rental.

I can see the router and can ping it OK, but I cannot get it to connect to the internet. It has set itself with the correct auto DNS and IP address for the LAN port.

I did a search for similar problems and found NETSH reset options but JW had said it was for XP and I am running w2K pro. I don't want to try the reset options with w2K until I am sure that is the issue as the Siemens is running fine.

I have been using the Siemens (in fact using it now) with DHCP.

I have tried setting the Netgear to Virtual Circuit 0/35 to duplicate the Siemens but still no go.

Any suggestions??

Thanks

Hi one and all,

I am trying to update the firmware on my Netgear DG834G wireless ADSL Modem / Router and having some problems. The router was originally supplied by Virgin when I was using them as an ISP several years ago (which may well be a contributing factor in the problem).

The firmware is well out of date so I thought I would update it to take advantage of any improvements, however it fails to update everytime I try. I have tried the reset utility provided by Netgear (can't remember exactly what it was called now as I am at work) and that wouldn't even see the router when I tried to run it.

I am trying to do it via my Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 laptop which has a wired connection to the router (all other machines in the house are wireless). It can acess the internet fine, access the router setup information and change it all OK, just won't update the firmware.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to do some form of hard reset with the latest firmware version.

Thanks

A:Updating firmware on Netgear DG834G

Your DG834G may really be a Virgin specific Netgear model "dg834gsp" and can not be updated with standard DG834G firmware.

Hi All,

This is driving me crazy at the minute, so I thought I would throw it out to the experts to try and get my sanity back! Here goes...

I have Sky BB (dlink router) and I have been successfully using 4 comtrend homeplugs to share my connection to a spiderbox, sky HD box and HP officejet network printer. I recently had my electricity supplier changing a meter and after he went I found that 2 of the homeplugs had fried - I know they're temperamental so I took it on the chin.

Anyway I have now decided to go a different route and I purchased a Vonets wifi bridge, which works well. My question is this - I have an old Netgear DG834G router and I would like to use this as a network switch so that I can plug my bridge into one of the ethernet ports and draw off from 2 of the other 3 ports to feed my printer and Sky HD box.

I plugged the vonets into port 1 and then a cable to both my printer and my sky box and nothing - then I went into my netgears homepage and disabled DHCP, and hey presto I got a connection on my sky box. I assumed that was that until I tried to print and the printer was not available. I have tried loads of things since - static IP on the printer (I usually have it static anyway as my work laptop doesn't like it otherwise), manually configuring the network on my sky box, changing some of the settings in my netgear router but I cannot get it working. I tried changing the IP adresses on both my printer and sky box to the same as the vonets, ... Read more

When I then click next I get a screen that tells me it can’t find the cable or router. I have been on to netgear tech support and gone through everything with then and surprise surprise they say it’s my computer that is faulty. However, I can still get it connected using the wired Thomson speed touch 330. So it defo works.

When I plug the Ethernet into the netgear it say acquiring connection and then says there is no connectivity -is this related.

Any tips or advice on how to solve this would be massively appreciated

My ISP is TalkTalk

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Make and model of the broadband modem.
Make and model of the router.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make/model of your computer.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc.

Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

Does your ADSL connection require a user name/password login? Did you configure that in the DB834G? Can you make a wired connection to the DG834G?

Try this to get a wired connection, then work on the wireless.

Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the router and the computer.
Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi guys, Noob here,

right im trying to set up a wireless network in my home, using a Netgear dg834g and a Dell Inspiron 6400 with integrated card(Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Net) and i am struggling to get even a very low signal, even when the laptop is literally sitting side by side with the router/modem. I am using WEP, and i have changed from channel 11(DEFAULT?) to channel 9 just in case, and still know joy. The router came from the isp(tiscali) and i followed all the instructions on the installation cd. The router works brilliantly with the ethernet cable, but thats not why i upgraded, any thoughts?

Hi All,

I have been trying (without any luck) to disable the internet in my house between certain times of the day using the schedule feature in my router.

The model is a Netgear DG834G, and if I'm reading the manual correctly, all I need to do is untick the all day box under "time of day" and enter start and finish times using the 24h our clock. So in my case I want it to block the internet at 23.00 and come back on at 10.00 in the morning.

I have been trying different times of day etc but it never seems to work. I'm not bothered about just blocking certain IPs, I just want it to block everyone.

Does anyone know how to do this, or where there is a step by step guide which would show me the way to do this?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Any help gratetfully received in advance

problem

This netgear product (Wireless modem router with adaptor )was purchased by family as a present. They noted the outside of the box which quoted both Windows and Mac compatible. The buyer knew we have a dual OS Mac and Windows household. However the ideal scenario would be for the PC to be hard wired and the Mac to run off the usb adaptor but examining the kit it is clear there is no Mac driver for the usb adaptor. Upon further investigation it would seem there is not a driver for the adaptor and netgear do not intend to support the adaptor for use on Mac. They direct to a third party supplier who wishes to charge for the driver software and only supports cards not usb connections.
Apart from the obviously mis-leading pack details; certainly a bad show on netgears' part, I am left considering if any else knows the whereabouts of a driver that will run this adaptor on the mac.
System is OS 10.4

thank you

You mean that a USB wireless adapter was bundled with the router?

The exact model of the said adapter would help. "dg834g" is a plain router and doesn't really give any clues.

Hello there!

I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a few tips with the following problem: I have set up a Netgear DG834G Wireless modem/router with firewall to connect to our ISP (wanadoo) (ADSL 1mb). I am currently connected by a hardline, and my flatmates connect to it using wireless cards, so two other computers are connected. We would like to set up a network whereby we can share files, and would eventually be interested in creating a LAN if that is possible with the router, to play games.

Initially though sharing files would be great, we are all running on XP home and therefore have tried using the set up a home network wizard. the hardlined computer builds a bridge successfully and allows me to use the internet. however, if we attempt to do it with one of the wireless laptops, then xp reports that the bridge has been built successfully, however the laptop is then unable to access the internet (says internet Not Available when trying to use explorer) I cannot for the life of me figure out why that happens, and would much appreciate it if someone could say how to build a semi wireless home network for file sharing with the netgear router.

I tried when using the wizard to use the same choices for both of the computers.

CHeers people!

Hi there,

I need to buy a new wireless router as my old one keeps heating up and dropping it's connection and requires reboots to get it working again for a few hours.

I was thinking of buying the NETGEAR DG834G wireless ADSL2+ router but I need to know if it is possible to set it up by using a wireless adapter rather than using a LAN connection. I managed to do this with my old Linksys WAG54 and need to know if I will be able to do it before I purchase this one.

Thank you for reading.

Ps: Should I buy some netgear USB receivers? Or should my old Linksys ones work??

Hi everyone... afraid I'm vexed again. This time a CD supplied on a second hand router was bent out of shape and I can't install the Netgear DG834G router without it. I can access the router home page and cofigure the thing, and even set up a USB adapter to talk to the router, but I think I need the basic installation of whatever is meant to be on the "resource CD (version 2.0)".

Does anyone have this? Any alternatives? I'd be glad for any tips, or if anyone is so kind as to yousendit an image file of their own CD

The pc has xp home sp2 and kerio personal firewall. I tried stopping the firewall, firefox, explorer 7 and k meleon, but after the admin login (which goes through), I always get a blank page, unless I insert the wrong or no password and I get a "system authentication failed" page that displays correctly. Could anybody point me in the right direction or suggest a network diagnostic tool that could help? Thank in advance

I've been using my DG834G wireless router more or less trouble free for a while. But I've recently moved house and now my signal is pretty poor - losing it from time to time.
So I've bought Netgear WPN802 Rangemax - but can I get it to work????

My usual set up is to pick up the IP address dynamically, but the instructions state that I have to have a static address of 192.168.0.210. Now I can get to the configuration page of my router and change the option and hardcode the IP address in , and I've also changed the settings in my wireless connections on the Control panel.
But once I do that that, I'm
a) unable to even connect to the internet.
b) can't access the configuration page for the new Access Point. It's telling me the address is 192.168.0.231 - but I just can't get to it to change any settings. It's telling me the site has moved????

I tried changing my settings to pick up IP address dynamically, and hey presto, can get on the net again, but still no luck with configuring my WPN802 - still can't access the configuration page.

Am I missing some option somewhere. to set a static IP address, am I doing the correct thing?
Also a couple of basic questions...should I disconnect my USB Adaptor during the process? what about the actual Router?
All the reviews I read for this product raved about the ease of installation, so I'm feeling extremely stupid.
Can anybody help please?
thanks, Jan

I have just had to replace my Draytek 2600 ADSL router with a Netgear WG834G wifi router.

I have the router set up fine, Wifi disabled for now as I have no need for it, and I have got all my settings transferred from the Draytek to the Netgear (port forwarding to Apache, IMAP, FTP, other services etc on a RH-FC3 Server)

Now I have one major problem, any time I try to use a service on the LAN using my internet domain name for the LAN be it FTP. Webserver or whatever I get a connection refused. Anyone outside of my LAN has no trouble connecting to my services.

Now this is not a problem for most services as I can simply change from using the domain name or the ISP assigned static IP address and connect to the LAN IP address of the server, but, for Webhost absolutely need to be able to access my webserver by domain name, as I am using Subdomains as welll as another domain name completely.

Is there any solution, (I haven't tried putting domains in the LMHOSTS list for my windows workstation pointing to the LAN address of the server yet.... hmmm :/) be it LAN based or a Netgear setup/workaround that I could carry out?

With the Draytek I had no problem at all with any of this, and I think it's only because I have more noise on my ADSL line that I cannot use the Draytek anymore - it works on other peoples ADSL lines but not mine :/

Many thanks....

So I have AT&T DSL. I bought a Netgear N300 ADSL2+ Modem/WiFi Router that is compatible with my service.

Previously with this Modem/Router it would constantly drop the wireless connection for the Wii I have that was used to stream Netflix.

So recently I bought a Linksys E2500 Router so I could be able to use the Wii, along with 3 other desktops, 1 laptop, and 3 phones.

My ideal setup would be this:
Set the ADSL2+ Modem/Router to be just a modem (I know how to set the option for this)Connect the Linksys Router to be what all the devices connect to wirelessly (this would serve as the DHCP server)
I have read that one of the Routers has to be set to "BRIDGED" mode, yet I don't know which device has to be Bridged

But my issue is the other (Win98) wireless workstation, it can see my SSID on the network and my connection is reading at 65% but it doesnt seem to see the router i have the worstation configured for dhcp from the router but for some reason they dont see eachother I dont understand why? if i run ipcofig on the win98 pc i get a apipa address instead of a dhcp ip address that my router should be pushing out just like it does for my pc??? Hi All,

I recently put in a Netgear firewall, configured it, its running no problem. Then I setup a new Netgear N600 wireless router, configured it, gave it a static IP, connected to it, works like a charm. Thing is, when I try to access the web gui I receive nothing.. Is the Netgear firewall taking priority or something? I went directly connected to the netgear wifi router and double checked to make sure that there was no settings restricting administration from wifi users, etc.. Anyone have a similar setup ?

Thanks All

You sure been busy! Have "seen" you all over this place.

Is the FVS318G router connected to the N600 router's WAN port or a LAN port?

If WAN have you changed one of the routers so that they don't both use the same LAN subnet (I didn't check each one, but they probably both default to the same).

If LAN have you disabled the N600's Dhcp server?

But I cannot get my NEW Netgear N600 router to communicate with a NEW Netgear WN 3000 RP extender.

The instructions say to press the WPS button on the extender then the WPS button on the router. No WPS button exists on the router!

The instructions also I can use any wireless network manager utility to set this up. Can't find where this is in Windows 7.

The I pad has found the NETGEAR_EXT address but won't connect. And the light on the extender does no indicate teh router is communicating with it.

This is a problem that I have been having and been trying to get resolved for a month or so.

The system that I have is a home computer, windows xp sp#3 home version IP static, 192.168.230.2 with a subnet automatically set to 255.255.255.0. The second computer that I use is a laptop, windows 2000 pro, sp#4, static ip is also 192.168.230.30 with a subnet set as well as the first computer. I do not have a problem using the crossover cable and transfereing files that way, but now I have a router in the line and wanted to send the information wireless to the computer A through the router. The router has been changed from it’s original ip of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.230.70 with the same subnet as the 2 computers.

I can use the command from the computer A and ping the computer A and the router to rule out telecommunication error from one side. When I ping the laptop, nothing. I get timed out. When I do the same on the laptop, I can ping just only the laptop. Then I tried to ping the router, I get timed out as well. Is there anything that I am missing?

I have also shared both drives on both computers as well and the permissions have been set.

The router is a netgear wrg614 that is using dhcp server address within the ip range. Also there is no DSL internet on this rounter, I am trying to use it as a file sharing device between 2 computers.

On the two computers, I have installed the file sharing within the properties of the network connections and they are both on the same networ... Read more

Go to the manufacture of your router website and look for "Support" or documents to show you how to do this.

I have a Paradyne DSL modem connected to a Netgear WGR614 wireless router. This set-up has been working great for over a year.

A couple of weeks ago, my DSL (or so I thought) quit working while I was using it. No big deal, I just let it be, thinking it would be up the next day. Next day, same thing, so I started the normal troubleshooting. Everything looked like it should, so I connected directly to the DSL modem and everything worked fine. I decided my Netgear had bit the dust, even though everything looked good. I tried another router and had the same results, so I purchased a new Netgear because I wasn't sure of the configurations for the second router. Same thing.

In order to connect the modem directly to the computer, I have to enter the IP, Gateway and DNS numbers in my PC, so I know my numbers are still valid. Any ideas as to why my DSL will no longer work through a router? I can access the routers internal configuration from my pc, so I know the connection between those two are good. When I set the Netgear back to factory defaults, it was able to detect what type of connection I have, so I assume the connection between the modem and the Netgear is good. I tried disabling my firewall temporarily. I am at a loss as to what to try next. I know several people who have the exact set-up at their homes and are working fine.

The troubleshooting was performed on my wired Windows XP Home desktop; however, I also tried wireless with my Windows XP Professional laptop.

Let's hope you can understand me with this inquiry, and I can understand what I need to do...
I have a Netgear Wireless-N 150 Router WNR1000v2 that my daughter hooked up for me a few months back. Then the ISP provider was "switched" and I'm told that my brother was at my home re-installing the same router. I was out of the country and now that I'm home, we've "switched" ISP's again, and apparently the router needs to be re-installed again...?
I'm not understanding "why" it needs to be re-installed each time... I would've guessed that "once" would be enough (thus being the initial installation) followed by maybe "reconfigured" or something [at most] whenever we switch services... Wouldn't that make sense?
However, if re-installation is necessary, so be it, but that isn't my problem... the original CD seems to be missing (along with a bunch of other CD's) which I'm almost sure my brother "took" because he took alot of things that he won't return... Anyway, is there a way I can "accomplish" setting up this router "without" the original CD?

A:Solved: Help setting up a Netgear router pls

The only value of the CD is the user manual, which you already have online, so no loss there.

Chapter 1 of the manual is probably sufficient for your task. If you can connect your computers to the router by ethernet and by wireless then the only thing you probably have to do is (re)configure the WAN settings--how it connects to your modem.

If you post your modem brand and model we can probably help with the WAN configuration if you don't have the information from your ISP. If you are posting via a connection to your modem you could post the following to give us some more hints ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I'm new here and need help. I've spent probably six hours with various tech support people over the last 24 hours and am frustrated.

Bought and installed a new Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR 3400. Modem is actually an ActionTec Gateway GT701 which I have made a bridge to the router (also recently updated firmware too). I can get online wirelessly with several computers and the ethernet connection on the XP works fine too. The MAIN problem is that my wireless signal isn't any stronger than before on the old ActionTec.

One of the reasons we got this is because the wireless signal didn't reach to the master bedroom (using iPad or iTouch). Now it will sometimes show one bar, but is quick to drop it.

I'm so frustrated and don't know what else to try. The router is placed up high in the office and does have to go through a block wall. But I read lots of reviews where the Netgear boasts strong and far reaching signals.

Anything else I can do? Thanks for your help.

I purchased a Netgear WNR2000v2 Router last week and have not been able to enable the traffic meter, it is grayed out. I would like to keep track of my bandwidth flow on 3 home computers and a laptop. Does it not support cable modem? Please advise.

A:Solved: Netgear WNR2000v2 Router

Maybe not. I don't know how you or anyone else would have a firmware release before the initial release but this confusing FAQ seems to say something about your issue:

10. Why is the Enable Traffic Meter checkbox grayed-out and unable to setup the traffic meter?

Please note that the firmware version before v1.0.0.34 (initial release) only supports Traffic Meter for WAN types on PPPoE or PPTP mode. Traffic Meter for WAN type with DHCP or Static IP mode will be supported on future FW release. Click to expand...

My advice is to update to the latest firmware, if there is a newer version than what you have, and then reset to factory default settings and reconfigure. If still no good all I can suggest is to call or email Netgear.

As a small background - i moved into my first apartment with 4 other guys and since I brought the routers I'm the one trying to fix them. The router we initially set our place up with was the same one i used in my dorm last year. All year long it was iffy with Windows computers, kicking people off randomly, not letting them connect (myself included) yet my friends mac computers literally never had an issue once. After moving into this apartment I have not been able to connect to this router at all and have been using my upstairs neighbors' the entire semester. We thought it could possibly be because we have 5 laptops, 3 Xbox's and 5 smart phones attempting to access it (rarely all at once its usually probably 5 items total when were all home). So i made a trip home and grabbed a spare router my dad had laying around so we could run two routers. That's where i ran into some problems, well more problems i guess.

I have a netgear router and recently i just purchased a iphone. for some reason my wifi connection does not work on my iphone. i have connected 2 desktop and 1 laptop through wifi with my netgear and it works fine. However, my wifi connects with my iphone but the webpage just doesnt load. Can it be my router blocking the connection through my phone? I know it is not my iphone so it have to be my netgear wifi. Is there is specific setting needed for my router in order for my iphone wifi to work?

I recently replaced my old router with the Netgear WPN824 RangeMax router. I have 4 systems on it (3 PC, 1 Mac). All have an internet connection. When all 4 systems are running Windows operating systems (3x Vista, 1x XP; my wife has Vista on her Mac for some PC MMO gaming), there's no issue. However, when she boots back to her Mac OS, download rates drop to 14-30Kbps.

I've spoken to the people at Netgear, who said they had absolutely no idea what was going on.

edit: I forgot to add I have 2 desktops (1 mac, 1 pc running vista) direct wired to the router and 2 laptops (both pc's, 1 xp, 1 vista) connected via wireless.

Would it be worthwhile to upgrade a Netgear MR814 router to a newer Super G or better. When currently using this router it says it will take me 13 hours to download a 46MB file, watching it transfer at a rate of approx. 1.54 KB/sec. Worked with RR tech support and they say the modem is transferring at correct speed so problem must be with wireless router which I have had for approx. 5-6 years. Problem began when I switched to digital phone and they brought me a new modem.

I am not exactly computer savvy and when I was setting up my wireless router I used the CD that came with it. I have Windows Vista and a Netgear WGR614 v8 wireless router. When I installed it it wasnt working properly so I used the Vista tutorial and was able to finally access it on line. I thought I had set it up correctly and installed it as a secure network but even though I wrote my passcode down, it keeps telling me access denied. How do I uninstall it so I can start over again? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, I am an absolute computer beginner (I use my computer for word processing, email, and internet), so please bear with me; I read a lot of other posts to determine what I would need to say here, sorry if i leave anything out.

We have a gateway desktop with windows xp, which is connected to a cable modem, and the modem to a wireless router, netgear wgr614v6. an ibm laptop running xp connects to the wireless network and has never had any problems. we got a new laptop, gateway, with vista on it and it will not connect to any wireless network. i ahve already called gateway tech support, reinstalled the drivers, gone through all their suggestions, and they say the problem is with my router. the laptop finds my wireless network but says it cannot connect, no matter how close it is to the router. the network is not password protected, encrypted, and i even tried turning off all firewalls. i have logged in to the router and tried changing the channels and other settings to see if that would work and nothing does. i have power cycled the router and modem every time i made a change to see if that would help and it does not. the laptop consistenly sees the network but says it can't connect.

netgear has a site with info on upgrading your router for vista but next to my model router is a link for a complete reinstall of the router; we dont have vista on this desktop and there is no one file specified to upgrade the router for vista in the download.

Hello,

I have a Netgear Wireless N-300 Router and I'm able to get on the internet on my computer that is hardwired into the router, but the wireless feature does not seem to work. I cannot get wifi on my iPhone, my netbook my iPad, or my laptop. All devices tell me i'm connected to the router, but I am not able to update any pages or connect to the internet. it's very frustrating, as Netgear will only help you if you spend $40/month on tech support and I've done all the firmware updates and have tried everything I can think of. Has anyone else had this problem? All of the lights on the router tell me everything seems to be working fine. And my phone tells me that I have a strong wireless connection, but nothing works. Very frustrated!!!

Thanks in advance for any help offered. PLEASE HELP!!

Thanks

You need to log on to the router, and load it through the web interface.

I've got a netgear router, the IP address for the router should be 192.168.0.1

Type that into a web browser's address bar.

I have a Netgear DGB834Gv3 router and a Netgear WG111v2 adapter. When first setup I was wireless for about a week. Then I tried to update my security settings and went for a WPS2 PSK setting with password. Since then I have not been able to get the two to communicate. The router seems to be sending signals as it appears in the Available Networks window, and the adapter seems to be flashing blue lights occasionally, but the adapter won't pick up the signals.

So i goes and buys a netgear rp114 router which was recommended to my by a mate.

I have a 1mb cable modem connection and both pc's are running windows xp pro, and have more or less the same hardware specs. ( xp2100)

Well i sent the son up into the loft to wire up the cat 5 cable, connected the router to the cable modem (wan) then connected the 2 pc's to slots 1 and 2 at the back of the modem.

Switched everything on all lights are on everything seems ok.
So i tried to connect to the internet with my pc, but no connection

So my question can anyone give me a link to a site with a step by step guide to setting up both pc,s so as to share internet connection.

Hello everyone,

I just bought my parents a Netgear WGR614v10 wireless router for Christmas. I'm trying to set up a wireless network and make a wired connection from the router to their Dell Dimension 2400 desktop running Windows XP SP3. Internet access is provided by NetZero using a 2Wire DSL modem. Without the router connected, the wired Internet connection with the Dell desktop works fine.

I went through the procedure correctly to set up the wireless router but there is no Internet access. So I plugged the router directly to the desktop NIC and tried a "ping" command to 192.168.1.1. I received four "Destination host unreachable" responses.

An "ipconfig /all" shows (with direct Ethernet connection between NIC and router port 1):

That IP means windows has assihgned the IP as it could not find the DHCP service from the router - lets see the services - see below - see if dhcp and other service are running
maybe a firewall blocking - has the machine ever had norton installed - if so use norton removal tool to remove - this often blocks access , and gives various strange results ie email and updates work but browsing wont - so would not surprise me that a modem works but router wont , as you get different IP range from modem

Here is the enviroment that I have: One desktop with wol capabilities attached via cable to netgear router. 2 laptops with wifi capabilities. At first I was using the netgear router as a point to point file sharing device that I can use as a INTRANET. Since the desktop has wol via cable, I can access the desktop anytime with my laptop using static IP. Now the wife went and got 2wire modem with wifi capability and is using it on her laptop. I am wondering if I can change the settings within the 2 wire to setup static ip for INTRANET use and be able to get INTERNET access as well. The other problem is that I am still wanting to use the netgear router for the desktop as a wol so that I can access that computer as well for files. Is this non-impossible? I have all of the keys and total information for both routers.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello all,

I have a Netgear wgr614v7 wireless router that has been working perfectly for a couple weeks now, but I have suddenly run into a problem. For some reason, I can now only connect one laptop at a time to the network. When I try to connect a second laptop, it says, "Windows was unable to connect to [network name]". When I try to connect with my Macbook, it says "network timed out". Before, I was able to connect all three without any problems.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Make sure the modem is connected to the router's WAN port.

Reset the router to factory default settings (and reconfigure it if the problem disappears).

As of last friday, I had a xbox 360 that worked fine with this router. But, my Xbox crashed, so I bought a used one. When I plug it in to my router with an ethernet cable, the light shows on the port for a little while then resets. This creates a disruption, and the xbox wont connect. It fails the very first network test. I tried different cables, that didnt work. However, if i plug the same ethernet cord into my laptop from the same port on the router, the laptop still gets internet and the connection does not drop.
Also, I plugged the xbox directly into the modem and THIS worked. So, its not a faulty ethernet port on the xbox. I tried port forwarding the ports that are recommended to open on the router and i tried resetting the router and modem multiple times.
Nothing changed on the router between xboxes, and I know I have at least covered all the basics. A friend told me I may be able to try turning off Mac Address Filtering, but I dont know how to do this on my NetGear wgr614 v5 router.
Anybody have any ideas whats going on? The weirdest part is how it will connect, and the light is lit up on the port the xbox is plugged into, but then when i run a test the lighht goes out and the test fails. Its like the router is kicking the xbox off or keeps resetting that connection.

Thanks in advance for any help!

A:Solved: Cannot get new Netgear DSL Modem/Router connected to Wireless

yes, the pin number should be written on the label on the router

otherwise connect to the router by a cable and then you would need to loginto the router configuration pages and goto the wireless section where you can read the pin code

do you have the exact model N600 is generic for a few netgear models- again it will be written on the label on the router itself

How I fixed my connection problem.

With Netgear DG834GT and TalkTalk, my connection stayed up for Half Hour to an hour before it fell over. Only a router restart would get the internet up again. Also, when the internet went down, the ' i ' light went out. Also had a similar problem with the TalkTalk supplied router.

Was previously with SKY and had the same problem with their supplied DG834GT router.

Complained to TalkTalk constantly, finally sent their engineer, who did not find the problem within the first half hour as the connection is always up, but engineer said he would say the connection dropped while he was there so that a BT Engineer could come out.

BT Engineer came out twice and could not find problem as well. On the second visit, engineer got exchange to test from exchange to the DG834GT and all was OK. Gave TalkTalk an update that the problem still exists. However after the BT engineer finished his testing, noticed the ' i ' light on the router stayed up even when the connection went down.

Tried the TalkTalk wired router again and noticed this time the connection stayed up, but same problem with the DG834GT.

SUMMARY

I borrowed my brothers DG834GT which he is using on UKONLINE at his home and works without problem. Suprisingly, this identical router worked fine on my connection on TalkTalk and UKonline. However, my original router worked fine on his UKONLINE service, but did not work well on my TALKTALK connection. When I was with SKY, I d... Read more

Has this issue just started? Or has it never worked? How many other devices do you have on the BT line. ie. No of phones? Fax's. Is this device connect to the master BT connection? Filters are installed on other connected equipment? If possible. Disconnect eveything possible to reduce possible causes. I have same Router and have no problem. So, at least we know that the router does work with talktalk. Are you able to login to the admin pannel on the router? If so can you provide the firmware version Under >Maintenance>Router Status.

Hi All

I have a Netgear Router at home, and both my Laptop and Tablet connect to it via WiFi. Now on both the Laptop and Tablet, Internet has recently become VERY slow. I contacted my ISP and they said everything on their side is fine, so it has to be on my side...

What can cause this? I've checked for Malware but the fact that both the tablet and Laptop has slow internet points to the router. I also flushed my DNS on my laptop and booted into safemode with networking, internet still ridiculously slow...

Note, both the laptop and tablet travel with me and did connect to other networks sometimes

Any Suggestions?

Thank You

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

I have a netgear WGT624 v3 Wireless G router. I run linux, and recently I started noticing that anytime I tried to download a large file (like a deb file which is similar to a setup.exe in some ways) would be corrupted. Running md5sum would confirm that each download attempt would be corrupted differently every time.

I ruled out the laptop by bypassing the router and going strait to the cable modem and with that connection I had zero errors. Otherwise, connecting to the router wirelessly causes problems (and this has been confirmed via a laptop, a PC and an iPhone which has also experienced download problems with installing apps).

The router is currently running the latest available firmware and it's been running this version for at least a year with no issues up until a couple days ago.

I've attempted to reset the router to it's factory defaults and work my way back up to a wireless WPA2 connection from scratch, but it didn't solve anything. Even disabling encryption entirely still produces the same problem. Some downloads just locks up for minutes before resuming and ultimately to no good end as the download is still corrupt.

So, does this sound like a hardware problem? Think it might be possible to fix it somehow? Perhaps blowing dust out of it maybe? Probably worth a shot but I've never heard of anyone doing that before.

Any other suggestions? Would it be worthwhile to attempt to reinstall the firmware? Or even revert to an older version to s... Read more

Hi I would like to password protect my Netgear WGT624v3 wireless router but I can not access the Netgear settings page. I have always had a problem with this. The Netgear WGT624v3 wireless router is connecting to a Linksys BEFSR41v3 router. The wireless router will not work from my basement so I have it with me on the 3rd floor. When I try to access the settings page for the Netgear router using 192.168.1.1 it is sending me to the Linksys router settings page. Can anyone help me with this issue please? I have just recently had installed a sky satellite along with the sky+hd service. The sky+hd box is connected to a phone extension line via a filter. All other extensions have filters installed. I have a digital phone connected to the same extension as sky via a second filter. Both filters go into a splitter. Since this has been done I can no longer connect to AOL. I can sometimes connect to the internet via IE but cannot load any web pages apart from those with very few graphics - and loading is excruciatingly slow. If I disconnect the sky+hd box everything is fine. If I leave the sky+hd box connected, switched on but don't switch the Panasonic TV on everything is still fine. The TV is connected to the sky+hd box via an HDMI cable. I am on a BT line, more than 5 miles from the exchange, and according to BT my max available speed is 256k!! I have run broadband speed checker and it gives me download speeds of 464k and upload of 213k. My router is a netgear dg834g and I am running windows vista (SP1 I think).
Any ideas out there? Could it be a bandwidth problem?
thx

A:[SOLVED] aol broadband won't connect, netgear dg834 router, sky+ hd

I don't seem to have 'edit' option yet - maybe because I just joined forum yesterday - so will reply to my own post.
Solution - use TWO filters between extension socket and Sky+HD box. Found this solution on another forum and it works. Apparently using a better quality filter at the main BT socket also works ie. one of those which replaces the faceplate and filters all extensions.
