So basically - as the subject says -
Having a brand new Dell XPS 15 9550
with most recent Dell Wireless 1830 802.11ac drivers
cmd command "netsh wlan show drivers"
shows that current driver does not support hosted network,
meaning, that i am unable, for example, to share my ethernet internet connection Over wifi to other devices - i am unable to make my laptop a hotspot.
Which is ridiculous in 2016 and for a laptop of this level and is basically a prerequisite to be Windows 10 approved.
So my question is DELL, what the ***? When do we get normal drivers?
Anybody has the same issue - knows the workaround? Thanks.
I could not have expected that 2000$ laptop would not be able to do that. this is soul crushing.

A:Dell XPS 15 9550 - Dell Wireless 1830 802.11ac - Hosted network supported : No - cannot share Ethernet connection over WiFi

Hi,
I have a TP-Link WDR 3600 Wireless Dual Gigabite Router (also known as the N600).  I recently changed the settings on the router so that it was broadcasting 2 networks, one at 2.4 GHz and one at 5.0 GHz. They have different SSIDs so that I can tell them apart. Everything seemed to be fine, and I could detect both networks on my laptop (this was perhaps 3-4 days ago).
Today, I was doing work in a part of the house which is furthest from the router. Since I was connected to the 5.0GHz network, I thought it's probably because the 5.0GHz band doesn't have as wide of a range, so I tried to switch to the 2.4GHz network only it doesn't show up on the list of available networks.
The strange thing is my phone and ipad can see both networks just fine and my laptop could too, originally. Now, it's just my laptop that can't seem to see it. I tried googling about it, but everyone else seems to have the opposite problem than mine (ie, their laptop can see the 2.4 GHz network but not the 5.0 one).
I've tried

moving my laptop closer to the router but it still doesn't see the 2.4 GHz network
disconnecting and then "forgetting" the 5.0 GHz network
rebooting the router and my laptop
disabling and enabling the driver for the network adapter ; all, no dice.

Since I'll probably have to do more work in the room that's farthest from the router, I really need to be able to connect to the 2.4 GHz network (I want my laptop to be connected to both... Read more

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with Windows Vista OS. I have a Dell 926 printer interfaced to it via USB. Printer driver is installed and the printer does communicate at times with the computer and does a good job printing. However, intermittently when trying to print a document I'll get a message on the computer that says that communication has been lost and print job failed.

I've checked all connections to make sure they are solid and no debris that might cause this.
That has not corrected the problem.
The other thing that happens is that the document I want to print will stay in the print queue/spooler and if I shut the computer and printer down and restart both it will print the job. And it may continue to print jobs but it's just a matter of time.

Needless to say this is frustrating. I can print several jobs in a row with no problem and then I'll get this "communication has been lost between printer and computer". And I have to go thru the procedure above to get the last job printed.

My wife doesn't understand how this works and will try to print the same job several times with the commo problem and then complains when it won't print.....and then they all print when the above procedure is followed.

Any ideas what is going on??? Any fixes??

So over the past 2-3 weeks I kept noticing that my battery kept dying even though I would shut it down (yes window > shutdown) the computer with a full battery. The next evening I would power up and see that the battery was at 20% from full charge. This is a BRAND NEW as in <2 months XPS 9550. I checked my event log and WHAT THE H@#$??? It is absolutely filled with Dell Foundation Service and Dell Product Registration events all saying  " Power event Handled Successfully by the service." Clearly it is not.. The stupid things run every 10 seconds. So when I think I am powering down my computer, it is being blocked by these services and actually just going to sleep... but it actually isn't sleeping. Its waking up every 10 seconds. Can anyone PLEASE help me determine the issue. Apparently according to update service everything is up to date.

The short version of my question is exactly what the topic says-- Can I install a Dell-provided OEM version of Vista on a non-Dell computer?

But, here's the wordier version giving context, if anyone's interested.

About 10 months ago, I guess, I got a Dell Vostro that came with Windows Vista Home Basic. However, I had no interest in Vista (because I already had a Windows machine) and the very first thing I did was install Ubuntu on it. I still have the Vista reinstall disk, though, which, to my memory, hasn't been used.

Now I'm planning on getting a barebones system and upgrading what I see fit. For the time being, I'm going to use the Windows 7 RC, but I'd like to get the uber-great upgrade deal that they're having to pre-order either the Business or Home Premium version upgrade. So, to do that, I'd need an XP installation or a Vista installation. Is there any reason, legal or software-related, that I wouldn't be able to install Vista using that disk that came with the Vostro?

I heard somewhere that sometimes if you try, it'll say something like "This is not a Dell computer, you evil, evil person" and refuse to install, so I wanted to make sure before I pre-ordered the upgrade. I don't want to get the upgrade and have nothing to upgrade, of course.

Two months ago bought a Dell 8900 from Best Buy. After 20 days, it would not start, same with the next 8900 replacement... only fewer days. The first gameware as a replacement did not start at all. The Alienware Aurora worked beautifully for 3 days and then would not start. In the 8900's,,, got the blinking amber lights on the start button. Tech is coming to replace motherboard. What the heck is happening? Could it be the monitor... or the external hard drive or what? Come on Dell,,, what's up? I have a Dell XP Laptop as a back up using the same external hard ddrive.

Was given a Dell Optiplex 360 that I found out after getting a nasty virus had a bootleg XP OS
I also did not have any disks with it. I had older disks for a Dell 4600 that I used to wipeout the hard drive and install the new OS. Everything works fine except that I can not load any of the drivers from the second disk, (it was a 3 disk series)
thus at least at this point not able to connect with my cable internet. Cable people told me I needed the drivers.Any suggestions or can it just not be done.
Thanks, Al

A:Loading Older Dell OS To Newer Dell Computer

You will have to go to the dell website look under support and then drivers and downloads for your model of computer. If you use the service tag number on the computer it will make sure you get the correct ones you need. For future reference so you wont have this hassle again burn all of the drivers to a cd so you will be all set the next time.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530, XP PRO, SP3, about a year and a half old. Almost since I first got it, every few months or so, when I boot up it hangs on the Dell screen. When I turn it off and reboot, it is fine. I use Rebit to back up everything on an ongoing basis and have an extended warranty from Dell. Is there anything I can do about this, or should do? Thanks for your help.

A:Dell computer occasionally stuck on Dell screen

I would run a memory tester

Download the prebuilt ISO, burn it to CD as an Image, boot from that CD and run the memory test for a couple of hours or overnight to stress test the memory.

Hey,
I have a internet connection through a cable modem.
The modem is a Scientific Atlanta webstar 2100 and also using a wireless router that's a Linksys WRT54GS.
I connect it to my computer and everything. The wireless works fine (i'm using a laptop to create this post). However, it is not a secure network so I wanted to add a password. The problem is that the host computer that is connected to the router has no internet connection. When I open internet explorer or try to find a connection through the troubleshoot, it says it can't find one. Can anybody figure out why this would happen and how to fix it? I think I have the modem's drivers and stuff updated to the host computer and stuff.
Therefore, I have no wait getting to the ip address and/or setting up a secure network.

Please help me,
Thanks

A:Wireless connection works, but Host computer's connection doesn't

Recently the onboard S.M.A.R.T. system in my Dell Inspiron 530s began telling me that my HDD was overheating, and a few odd behaviors seemed to confirm that.

I cleaned the inside--especially the CPU fan and heatsink--with compressed air and also replaced the power supply with no improvement.

So I bought the EverCool Cool Wheel HDD cooler and attached it to the hard drive, but now I can't find a connection for the 4-pin molex connector.

I know these slim-line computers are tough to add on to or upgrade, but I am considering a 4-pin-to-SATA converter to plug the cooler into the hard drive. Would this work? Or is there a better way?

Thanks!

A:No 4-pin connection in Dell 530s

The Dell manual indicates connector P4 is a 4 pin molex connector. If P4 is being used you could purchase a SATA to 4 pin molex adapter which would work.

My laptop which is 10 months old (DELL) was working fine yesterday. Today I have no wireless connection. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with my provider and everything is ok on their end. I might add that I have a desktop within inches of the router. ALso have another laptop in the kitchen my wife uses. This lap and the desktop worked fine.

I then spent 45 minutes getting bounced around at Dell (whew!) They determined that my internal wireless card was ok since I had a green "WIFI" lite glowing on my keepboard. They then proceeded to spend an enourmous amount of time trying to sell me a software support contract for $239 so that they could diagnose over the phone. I am really stressing our over this. Too old (65) for this s---!

Does anyone know why my new (less than one year) laptop would suddenly not recognize my internet server. I ran the repair function and nothing happened. What can they do over the phone for $239 that I couldn't do with some help from the nice folks at Tech SUpport?

Thanks!

A:Dell and no WIFI connection

Are you connecting through a wireless router or directly through the modem? If it's wireless router than right click on the 'Network' icon (bottom right hand corner with the little monitor) , then 'Network and Sharing Center' then 'manage Wireless Networks' and from there DELETE the network you used to connect to (as in whatever the name of your network is/was).
After that you can either restart the PC or right click on the 'Network' icon again and Windows will show you all the available wireless networks again including the one you once connected to.Then proceed with the setup of wireless connection as if though it was your first time.Fill in the WEP/WPA password/paraphrase and see if this works. Also you could reset your wireless router but i don't mean just unplug it from the wall for 1 minute. There should be a RESET button (which is really really tiny) in the back of the router (most likely). This will COMPLETELY reset your router's settings to the point you're gonna have to run the installation wizard/CD all over again but hopefully this will take care of your problem.

First.Disable encryption on the router. If you can connect, then re-enable and re-enter the password on the router and then try to connect.
And.May we see:
Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I have a couple of issues that I do not know if they are related or connected. I have a Dell inpsrion 1525. I have a wireless air card through Verizon which I connect to have a wireless connection in my house with a Cradlepoint router.

A couple of weeks ago I had a virus on my computer. I had it taken care of. During this time, I also had internet issues where I was using EXTREME amounts of data. I also changed from my original air card and updated to an LG 4 G card even though 4G is not available in my area yet. It was cheaper plan with more data.
Here is what I know:
1. I can use the aircard with my Dell if I connect it to the computer.
2. I have updated all the firmware on the router to make the air card work with the router
3. I am getting a signal that I can get on the wireless network and I use it with my other devices (An iPad and an Acer notebook, and my Droid X) but when I have the wireless through the router, it will not pick up my Dell.
4. My computer shows it is connected to the wireless but will not access the internet though IE, Chrome or Firefox
Here is what I have tried:

1. Erased the automatic connections to all wireless networks
2. Used the VZ access manager (software from Verizon) to connect to my home network (It shows as being available)

It appears to me it must be a setting on the Dell. I just do not know what next to try.

Thanks for any help anyone can give

would you post the results of xirrus

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
Then run the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Ok, so i've been searching for a few days to fix this problem, idk im missing a small detail or i totally de-railed trying to fix this.

I recently picked up a used Dell E310 Desktop from work. I reformatted it and tried connecting it to the internet but it could not because of an Ethernet Controller Error. Now i did some research online and this is what i found and did.

Downloaded/Installed these 5 drivers, with a reboot in between each driver.
1 - Intel Chipset
2 - Sigmatel STAC 92xx C-Major HD Audio
3 - Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection
4 - Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family
5 - Conexant D850 56K V.92 Data Fax Modem

Still had the problem with the Ethernet Controller (Yellow "?" in device manager)

I saw that a member here, "flavallee" posted to install this driver.
- vt6105m_driver_v30via

So I did, and the ethernet controller (yellow "?" in device manager) did go away...
But now my tollbar shows "LAN" and "LAN2" and both say that there's a cable unplugged.

Can someone please help? lol, thank you for your time.

Hello EVeryone,
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 and the Dell Wireless router. I have very frustrating, intermittent problems connecting through the wireless connection. Sometimes I can get on for hours at a time. Other times, I can't stay connected for more than a few minutes. And this is when using the laptop in the same position. So at first I thought it could be an obstruction (reflective surface or other interference) but why does it connect fine some days and not other days? When it disconnects, sometimes I can get back on by right-clicking on the icon in the system tray and using the Repair function. But this does not always work.

Is my problem the fact that I saved money by buying the Dell router instead of a good one like a Lynksys?

Thank you,
Greg McComish

My Dell Latitude 610 laptop used to have a windows XP operating system, but the computer went bad. I took it a neighborhood tech guy and he replaced the hard drive and installed windows 7 ultimate. When I got the computer back, I was able to get wireless connectivity, but I had problems with pop ups indicating that the Windows Operating system was not genuine. I took it back to the tech guy and he said he needed to conduct a"crack", whatever that means. So he did his thing. I brought the computer back home and could not get any wireless connectivity. Called the tech guy. He said it had nothing to do with the operating system and supported his point by saying that he was able to get wireless connectivity at his home.

I have tried everything I could. I took a screen shot that shows that my Wireless Network Connection is enabled in the window. However, there is a small window in the lower right hand corner that shows "No connections are available"

Also, I received some troubleshooting messages about a problem with the driver.

Please advise. I need your help.

Thanks,
jc

There could be many issues causing your problem, but the easiest first thing to check is to make sure that it is not an Ethernet cable problem. Please swap in a known good Ethernet cable and see if that solves your problem.

I just bought a new Dell computer with Windows 7, and when I connect to the internet and open the browser it just says the webpage is unavailable. This means I cannot enter the password and therefore, I cannot connect to the internet.

One of the errors I get is "Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (dns server) is not responding.

Any help with how I can manually enter the connections password, or any other fix for this?

I have connected my old Dell printer AIO 924 to my new Dell XPS 8500. I can't seem to figure out how to scan. I had no trouble with my old computer, but can't scan since connecting to my new XPS 8500. Can anyone help me please? Do I have to get A new driver? If so, where do I get it? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Can anyone suggest a way to get a dell 770 printer to work on a non dell win98 system?

My friend was given the printer from his friends, but it's a dell and it's pretty muh brand new so he doesn't want to throw it away. It's also better than his current printer

Anyway, he uses the dell install disk but once it begins and runs the setup app it gives a message akin to pirating. Saying something like -this computer does not support dell , or something like - this computer is not a dell.

Can anyone offer advice. I did a search on google and dells' site and here.
I couldn't quite find anything that might lead me to an answer..?

Thanks

I have replaced the internet cable to the router (Network router) but I am still getting the message that internet connection not found. I ran a test and it tells me to check modem connections. All the other computers on the network are running fine. Is this a hardware issue? Any suggestions, thanks

A:need help with wireless network connection on Dell laptop... HELP

and welcome to the Forum

I moved your thread to the Networking Forum . .

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL and press enter.

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

then please Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download... Read more

Yeah, I have a problem with this laptop and whenever I try to connect it to the internet, I get a "Network Cable unplugged" for 2 seconds than a connection for 2 seconds and then it repeats this same thing over and over and over. It is driving me MAD and I can't get on the internet with the laptop.

First of all I asked my computer tech friend and he doesn't know what to do. I asked his computer tech teacher and he doesn't know. I tried calling Dell and they gave me bull**** about, "You need to replace the mobo and it's going to cost 100s of dollars."

So, if anyone can help me I would appreciate it.

Also I did install the correct drivers so that eliminates that question.

Hey Nelly,

i'm on my way out for today, but i can tell you this, check out for the inspiron 8000 specifications maybe on the manual if you have it or else, in the internet. I guess 8000s use 3com network cards(not completely sure), so what you need for get that card running is the driver software. If it is a common 3com you can find it here http://www.network-drivers.com/companies/294.htm or else, if it is not a 3com card check out the list at www.network-drivers.com for the right card brand you have.

I have a Dell XPS 1210 laptop purchased in July for my daughter for college. Since she started to use it, there has been intermittent internet access problems. The computer has Windows Vista installed and I have a Linksys wireless network at home. At her college, there is wireless connectivity as well.
I have been on the phone Dell tech support for hours with no resolution. Yesterday they reinstalled all of the main system drivers, thinking that there was a corrupt file.
Again the connectivity is spotty to non-existent. I had heard that Dell and Microsoft both try to control the connection to the internet, and that some sort of conflict may be the root of the problem. Does anyone have an idea as to what the problem may be?

Hello-
I'm a novice and this is my first post here so I would appreciate any help I can get. I am unable to connect to the internet wirelessly any more. I can connect fine when my computer is connected to a cable and I can use the wireless signal fine with another computer. It used to work perfectly but stopped one day. Currently I'm using a Dell Latititude D610 with Windows XP using the factory installed wireless card.
I've tried removing the wireless card and replacing it.
Also I've read that using the function and F2 key will get wireless utility to open but nothing happens when I do that.
When I open device manager under network adapters all it shows is Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller. I think this device is for my cable modem and not my wireless card but not 100% sure.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for all your help!

I am running a Dell PC, with Vista.

The issue is that I have suddenly lost wireless connection. I switched the PC on yesterday, and it started running a lot of script before a message about corrupted files showed up. When the start page opened, a WLAN message popped up, and when I tried to connect to the internet, no networks showed up.

I tried running a system restore, but couldn't go back to the point where things worked. I then reinstalled Vista, but that hasn't made any difference. When I try to connect to the net, I now get a message saying "this computer does not have a wireless network configured". Wireless networks also still don't show up.

It may be due to my installing new antivirus software earlier this week, and not deleting the existing package.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you

I have a Dell Latitude D610 that I can get to connect to a wireless connection. It is running Windows 7 Pro. I have looked in device manager and there are no (?) or (!) anywhere there. I have another laptop that I have set up successfully on this connection. The Dell does find the connection that I want to use, but when I try to connect the following message appears: Your capability of your network adapter does not match the settings of this network" or something close to that. I have had a friend bring their laptop and they are able to connect just as easily as my second laptop. The only one that seems to have a problem is the Dell. I have even went into the router and changed the security to WEP instead of a WPA. This seems to work for a short time, but my first laptop (a thinkpad) will stop connecting after a short time. The Dell will only connect with a WEP setting. This is frustrating I just want both of my laptops to connect to my wireless connection at the same time.

Are you connecting via a wire or wirelessly via a wifi adapter?

Click on Start and then Run.

Type the following command in the Open: text box, and then hit the Enter key or click on the OK button.

devmgmt.msc

Expand the network adapters item and see if anything is displayed and if you see any red X or exclamation points.

If you're using a wired connection do you see any activity where the network cable plugs into the back of the PC? You may have a green or yellow light flashing.

Anyway, it says that Windows Wireless Service is not running when I try to troubleshoot my wireless connection. It doesn't give me the option to try to connect or anything. I've tried downloading the latest drivers for Windows 7 32-bit on Dell's driver's page related to Wifi 5300 and LAN to no avail. Hi and welcome

two places you need to look
First device manager too make sure the sriver is installed and working. type device manager in search go to the network tab and make sure you device is listed. It should not have a yellow triangle on it

Second place is event viewer. type eventvwr in search and go to the windpws log>application tab. look for any error (it has red in teh left column) that related to the networking problem. If you fing onr note the event ID and source code and let us know what the are.

I recently followed a tutorial for setting up a VPN connection on Windows 10. I set it up so only a specific username and password could access it, and I port forwarded it and allowed the port through Windows Firewall. On a different network, I added the VPN connection, signed in, and it connected flawlessly. On my desktop which is hosting the VPN server, the account I created shows up as being connected. I tested the connection by accessing 192.168.1.1 on the remote computer, successfully accessing the control panel for my Netgear router, which is only accessible on the same network as the router. However, when I view the status of the connection on the host computer, it says "IPv4 Not Connected" and I cannot access shared folders on the remote computer (I tried mapping one of my shared folders to the remote computer, only to recieve the message that "Windows cannot access DESKTOP-LJ6M9J0"). This is providing me with a huge headache, as accessing my shared folders and files is my whole purpose for setting up the VPN server. If someone could assist me in this matter, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi,

I just reformatted an old Dell Inspiron 5100 with XP SP3.
All drivers are installed and there are no exclamation marks in the Driver Manager.

The network card is a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller.
When I connect my network cable to the machine it doesnt not detect the connection. I tried the same cable in another computer and it is working fine so I know that there is a connection, however, in this machines it does not detect it.

Any ideas on this issue or how to identify the problem?

A:Does not detect network connection in Dell Inspiron 5100

You've confirmed that the network adapter driver is installed and the network adapter is working properly, and you've confirmed that the CAT5 cable isn't bad, so neither of those is the problem.

Try resetting the cable modem and then restarting the computer.

Installed a Dell 3110cn on our Windows Server 2003 network. Everyday it was going offline. After taking a great deal of time installing this printer over and over, we then installed the printer on a PC and used the PC as a print server. Everyday, the printer goes offline and have to restart the PC in order for print jobs to print. Have to do this 2-3 times per day for our users. This is becoming a hassle and only happens with this Dell printer. I am wondering if the printer driver needs to be updated or if there is an idle problem. Hi All,
Gotta mention that this forum is great! I'm here often, but seldom sign in. I most often get any help I need without doing so & though I prefer it that way, I figured it was time to give something back (however trivial it may be).

I had a Dell MFP1600n laser printer given to me a while back (Praise the Lord) & it came at the right time as I was destitute then & couldn't afford cartridges for a Canon I960.

Here's the rub.

There was no problem connecting & using the printer with a wired connection to a Linksys WRT54GS & a wired XP Desktop & a wireless XP Desktop (both older 86X systems).

Though the 64 bit, wireless, Win7 laptop connected through the same router to the internet. As usual, it would not & still does not "see the XP machines". It also would not, through multiple configurations, connect to this printer.

At first I tried to update the driver, but Dell only had XP 32 bit available. After hours & days of wasted time with "Add printer", I resorted to using a flash drive for the few times I needed to print something from this infernal Win7 machine.

I finally wondered if my head was stuck in the "soon to be obsolete, XP mode".

Y'know, this isn't the first time Microsoft has Pi**ed me off & I understand that we are all "beta testing" a product that we have paid several hundred dollars for. I also understand the reason for security, but I don't want to spend 50% or better of my tim... Read more

The current situation is that I cant connect into the internet for some reason. I plugged in the ethernet cable and open IE, but it just shows page cannot be displayed. For my wireless, the bottom right corner shows that theres signal but it's always stuck in acquiring network address.

I tried going into safe mode with networking and checked the network settings. In cmd, the ip config shows that the ip address is 0.0.0.0. I tried going into network connection and changed the settings in the TCP/IP properties from obtain an IP address automatically to use the following IP address. I copied the information in cmd from my other laptop and filled it in, but it still doesn't work. Then I tried repair but it shows that there's a problem with registering DNS.

I scanned the computer with AVG and killed all the infections it detected. I'm wondering if you guys could tell me what else I could do to get my internet back and working again. Thanks for taking time reading this and I'll be grateful if you guys could help me.

A:RE: My Dell Inspiron 3543 keeps losing WiFi connection

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
Since you have installed the drivers , was it from the Dell support site and the latest one available.
You can also try the following steps:
Enter Command to Fix No Wi-Fi in Windows 10
Important: Follow the steps below carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.
You can use command to fix this no wireless issue after Windows 10 install if it?s triggered by VPN software.
Step 1. Right click the Start button and select ?Command Prompt (Admin)? from the menu. This can launch Command Prompt as Admin.
Step 2. Type the following command and hit the Enter key:
reg delete HKCR\CLSID\{988248f3-a1ad-49bf-9170-676cbbc36ba3} /va /f
Step 3. Enter the command below into the Command Prompt and press Enter key once more:
netcfg -v -u dni_dne
Step 4. Restart the computer and check back with your Wi-Fi settings. You now should see a revived list of all the available networks within range.
Note: If you have the Cisco VPN client, Sonic Global client or other VPN software running on your computer and you are planning to upgrade to Windows 10, uninstall the VPN before proceeding.
Kindly let us know if the issue is fixed.
Thanks

I'm working on a Dell laptop for a friend Latitude D630 running Windows XP Pro SP2. Seems the only place he can connect to a wireless network is at his home. I now have the laptop trying to figure what the problem is. Here's what I found.

I was able to connect to the internet via a wireless at my place. First on another friend's wireless unsecured connection. I was also able to connect via my own connection a WEP secured connection. Connectivity lasted for about 30 minutes. I was suddenly disconnected with a message saying the there was no connectivity via my WEP connection. I then tried the unsecured connection and was able to connect to the net at least for a few minutes. Since that time I've had some trouble connecting. I've opened a command prompt and entered ipconfig / release, then ipconfig /renew. It works on the unsecured wireless connection, but not on the WEP network. Any ideas what could be happening.

Thanks in advance

Hi guys!

I am thrilled to be part of this forum now! I am experiencing a problem with my Dell laptop, its new and everything was working fine yesterday. I don't think its the router because i have another laptop (older model) that is connected right now! Anyway, what's happening is it's detecting the connection, and prompts a "connected" status then after 2 seconds it gets disconnected - then this happens in a continuous loop.

What i have done:

- Restart the router (given 60 secs interval to allow connections)
- Forget network and Reconnect
- Restart laptop
- Disabled and Renabled Wireless connections
- Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog
- Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
- Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log
- restart after these three commands from cmd
- joined this group and is hoping to get some results! )

Hope to hear from you guys soonest!

Thank you very much, in advance.

-Julian

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc
ipconfig /all

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.

I am having a lot of trouble getting my mini internal PCI Dell Truemobile working on my Dell Latitude D600.

I have it installed and it seems to be working in simple practice... shows that it connects and says that the connection is "excellent"

The two issues are these:

1) The signal saying I am connected to the wireless network will say it is and at full excellent strength and then will randomly every 30 seconds drop off and say it is not connected to the wireless network and then right away say it is connected again. Basically, it is acting like there is an intermitent signal.

2) Even when the card says that it is connected at full strength (excellent) if I click internet explorer or any other browser or any program that connects to the internet they don't connect/page cannot be displayed and it prompts me to try again or work offline, and when I hit try again I get the same result of the page not being able to be displayed.

I have had a wireless network without any problems for some time using Verizon DSL, my Linksys Router/Switch and a Linksys Wireless Network Card.

I really need to get this working so any help would be appreciated... is it a wireless setting? Being my own internal network setting?

I know a fair bit about computers but less about networking and most of the settings are basically the run of the mill default standards. PLEASE help!

with much appreciation,

Jon

Computers are 2 identical Dell Latitude D600 with XP Pro.

Dell #1 was given to me. It had never had ANY updates applied, had 56 Trojans and a bunch of other problems. I took it to the local library and used their WiFi connection to download Grisoft AVG, Ad-Aware and Microsoft Malware Removal to clean it up.

I then was given an identical used Dell #2. it was at the SP2 level, so I again went to the library and updated this one with 85 XP updates.

Then, as a learning experience, I restored XP Pro on Dell #1 from a Dell CD, P/N 1R594 and then installed SP2 on it. All went well.

I then tried to use WiFi on Dell #1. I tried to create a new connection, but when I clicked on finish nothing got created.

I looked at Dell #2 which has a working WiFi connection and noticed that when I click on All Programs I see an entry for
Dell Wireless, containing 2 items
Dell Wireless WLAN card Readme and
Dell Wireless WLAN card Utility

This entry does not appear on Dell #1 even though I used it on a Wireless network prior to the XP PRO CD restore today.

So, where did the wireless capability go from Dell #1 after a clean restore, and how can I get it back???

Hello,

So glad I found this forum! I have a Dell Studio 1737 laptop with Windows 7. I've never had a problem connecting with wireless network before now and I've owned this laptop since 2009.

I can see wireless network but it won't let me connect. Another laptop in our home can connect wirelessly so it's not the router.

The switch on the side of the computer is enabled.
The Device Manager says that Ethernet and Dell WLAN wireless card are all working properly and up to date.

I have no idea what to do now. Everything else on the computer is working fine except that when I tried System Restore, it failed for the last 2 restoration points and that has never happened before.

Please help!

Thanks,

I have a Dell 1390 Wlan in an Inspiron 1501 running Windows XP. A few weeks ago we upgraded our Internet DSL from 500 kbps to 3mbps. I'm achiving 3m with a hard connection, but still only 500k via WiFi. To see if it was the wlan card, I installed the software and used my husband's Netgear USB wireless adapter on my Inspiron. With it I get a 3m connection. Shouldn't the Dell 1390 be able to handle a 3m connection? Is there a setting somewhere I need to change?

A:Slow WiFi connection w/Dell 1390 WLAN

There should be no reason that your machine can't sustain a 3mbit connection.

Top suspect would be the wireless drivers, update them from the Dell support pages.

My roomates are not experiencing any wireless internet problems so I do not believe it is the modem/router, my wireless keeps disconnecting me constantly and I am not sure what is causing the problem.

Hi, I'm new to the forum for this exact problem, I'll have to start from a couple of months ago. I have had Att DSL service for years now and I play Call of Duty online of PS3. I decided that I wanted better speeds for my gaming, so I tried a new service called Excede by Wildblue. This is a satellite powered internet service, I didn't know that satellite internet was bad for gaming at the time. We were stuck with them for a couple of weeks but finally got rid of the service a couple hundred dollars later. I just now tried to reconnect our Att service today and I ran into the problem of no Default Gateway and no media server connection. I was also on the phone with an Att representative the whole time I was doing so. After hours of double-checking and failed attempts at troubleshooting, we finally gave up on the situation although I would really like my connection back TOMORROW! (A friend that I haven't played with in a while is getting to a connection tomorrow.) I then tried to take matters into my own hands, I did have a random anit-virus on my computer called K7TS (K7 Total Security) and I completely turned it off just in case of firewall encounters. Nothing has changed. However, I did get an internet connection eventually but not the way I'd prefer, it was a broadband connection which wouldn't work for my PS3 (My PS3 must be connected wirelessly due to ethernet port complications, I think it was struck by lightning.. Lol) The big mystery to me is, I think that I have to r... Read more

Hello techguy and welcome to Seven Forums.

When you were talking with AT&T did they have you reset the modem to its default settings and then let it reconfigure? Unless something happened to physically damage the modem a reset should have gotten internet connectivity.

I just inherited a nearly-new laptop that seems to have always had connectivity issues. We thought that the previous owner just had bad wireless, but our current router is brand new and works smoothly with all other computers in the household. It's a Dell Studio 1745 installed with a 64-bit Windows 7 OS. For wireless connection, there's both an Intel(R) Wifi Link 5100 AGN and an external Belkin Basic Wireless USB Adapter. I've been having connectivity issues. Both devices are able to see networks, and you can select to connect to them. But half the time the two of them stay in a cycle of "Identifying" and then disconnecting, or simply won't connect at all when enabled. The other half of the time, one device or another connects to the internet and functions slowly for a minute or two before becoming despondent again, even though the Belkin adapter worked fine on a previous Dell computer we had.

At one point the connecting devices would work for several hours at a time without a problem and reconnect easily when they became faulty (I just switched between one or the other) but now neither one is working for more than a minute or two at a time, and I'm posting this with an Ethernet cable plugged into the side of the laptop.

It's been suggested to me that the wifi card or some of the other internal hardware is "overheating," since earlier it seemed that if I disabled wireless for periods of time, the wifi connection would then ... Read more

I am using at linksys wrt110 router to connect to the internet. I had my dell desktop running XP ired into the router and everything was fine. when I use my laptop either wireless or wired into the second connection on the router, it takes about 5 to 10 minutes to establish a connection.

I had this same problem and I opened a thread but I could not do the recommendation that terrynet sugested because the laptop ws a work laptop and I did not have admin rights to do the netsh commands.
I have now replaced the desktop with a dell latitude e6400 laptop running windows 7 pro. I am having the same issue where it takes 5 minutes.

I did the three netsh commands
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog
Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

and I am still having the issue. I am not sure how long it is suppose to take to connect a laptop wirelessly to the net. maybe 5 minutes is what it takes.

terrynet also asked "What firewall or security suite is, or ever was, on the laptop's system?". ia m not sure how to find this. i can get to the "windows firewall' section in control panel, but I am not sure what you want to tell you.
I am including the ipconfig all stats

Try the PPPoE setup on the router

xDSL with PPPoE 1.

Connect the Ethernet port on the DSL modem to the Internet port on the router via an Ethernet cable.
2.

Connect any one of the four LAN port on the router to the Ethernet port on your computer via another Ethernet cable. (Connect to the router from your PC with a wireless network adapter.)
3.

Power on the router.
4.

Open your web browser and go to http://my.router, (or the default address http://192.168.2.1.)
5.

Click the Basic Settings tab on the top navigation bar.
6.

Click the CABLE/xDSL ISP Settings tab on the left navigation bar.
7.

Check the Your ISP requires you to input username/password (PPPoE Settings) box.
8.

Enter the user name provided to you by your ISP in the User Name box.
9.

Enter your password in the Password and Retype Password boxes.
10.

If your ISP requires you to provide a MAC address, check the Your ISP requires you to input WAN Ethernet Mac box.
11.

Enter the address in the appropriate box.
12.

Click the Next button.
13.

Click the Save & Restart button.
14.

Note the status bar at the bottom of the screen.
15.

While the Wireless Broadband Router resets, the Power light on the front of the unit blinks.
16.

When your web browser returns to the main page of the Wireless Broadband, the device has successfully restarted with the new settings.

I am posting this but admittedly do not have all of the information I am sure will be needed with me right now. Our entire office runs on wireless connections (laptops, printers, desktops, etc) and we have little to no connectivity issues considering. However, we just purchased a new dell laptop. the laptop connected but within 5 seconds immediate loses the connection and reconnects, disconnects, etc.. This is continuous. All other devices, 2 other never-before connected laptops and a tablet have all sucessfully connected without issues...only this new dell laptop does it. The laptop connects and stays connected to all other wifi connections we have tried it with (other corporate wifi and home wifi's). Dell has replaced the wireless card to confirm there was not issue with that (which I was confident there wasn't). Our IT contact suggests buying a new $500 router, but that is a little hard for me to accept seeing that only 1 device is having difficulties (his other reason for this was his concern that he couldn't access something like the router's management tool, or something like that). I am confident this is something as simple as a software setting or something. New Laptop is running W7 OS...that's really all the facts I have available right now. Any ideas from anyone? From seeing other similar posts I am hopefull there is help out there for me

First thing I might try,if you can,is disable encryption on the router for a test.Any change ?

Is mac address filtering enabled on the router.

I purchased the 5510 with the high DPI touchscreen, running W10 and after some fiddling with it, including going to Windows 8.1 scaling and forcing the non high DPI aware applications to utilize that scaling too, I am really happy with the laptop itself.
The problem is connecting it to anything else.  I heard that not all HDMI cables would support 4K monitors, so I went to the local electronics retailer and tested it. HDMI worked fine with a 4K screen.  I thought surely it would be able to drive also a standard run of the mill 24in 1920x1200 screen as an external monitor, with different scaling factor.
Nothing at all.  Tried also using HDMI to a HDMI-DVID adapter and utilizing that port, same problem.
The monitor simply gets no signal.  The computer never recognizes the fact that it is connected.  It seems like a case of zero compatibility.  I tried going to other monitor appropriate resolutions, etc. it does not work at all.
While this is annoying by not being able to use an external monitor when I go home in the evening, or it means I need to buy a new high DPI monitor, what about connecting to a projector.  HDMI is the standard, and no projector runs 4K.  Why have a laptop that you cannot use for presentations?
I am not keen to go experimenting trying to purchase more dongles/adapters/ports for USB C without some idea why the built in HDMI has zero use as a connection to a projector or monitor.

My Dell AIO 940 printer lost the connection to the computer, and now I get a popup "Communication not available." There is no error number. I had this problem once before, and the problem is that when you right click the Printer-Properties, there is a block to check under the Ports tab that says "enable bidirectional support." The check mark will not stay when you hit the "apply" button at the bottom, so the bidirectional support is not enabled, and the printer will not communicate. I remember a fix I came across one time that made some changes in the registry to make the bidirectional support permanent. I thought I had saved the instructions, but cannot find them. Does this sound familiar to anyone, and can anyone help? Calls to Dell are fruitless- they only say the printer is fine, and it is a software problem. That is correct, but, if I cannot use my printer, I will probably buy one from someone else next time!! Thanks!!

how is the parallel port set in the bios? it should run in EPP (ECP being the fastest) mode at least and be compatable with windows.

Hi, I apologize if this post has been posted before but only thing I could find was a thread of someone who had a similar problem but solved it somehow, randomly.

This is an *ancient* laptop...but it's been working perfectly the past lengthy years. Just recently, however, the wireless network does not work. It detects them so it's not that part of the wireless but for some reason, it will not connect.

With the cable, I can access the internet fine but won't work for the wireless

I'm not a tech-oriented person at all so I will most likely need step by step instructions and my jargon won't be accurate at all. Again, I apologize (especially if this is in the wrong forum!)

Thank you

A:Dell Inspiron 600m: Detection but no connection to Wireless Networks

Hi

i had a similar problem with an advent laptop that was given to me to fix, i tried all sorts of things but couldnt get it to connect to my home network (which is secured with a WPA PSK key), the strange thing is it will connect to a non secure network without a problem.

So try and see if it will connect to a network that has the security turned off.
