Event 1030 & 1058, repeating. Guidance?

Q: Event 1030 & 1058, repeating. Guidance?

These event just started appearing a day or two ago, but they continue to repeat every 5 minutes:

Event 1030:
Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects. Check the event log for possible messages previously logged by the policy engine that describes the reason for this.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Event 1058:
Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO CN={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=bbpi-pdc,DC=billsblue,DC=com. The file must be present at the location <\\bbpi-pdc.billsblue.com\sysvol\bbpi-pdc.billsblue.com\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\gpt.ini>. (Windows cannot find the network path. Verify that the network path is correct and the destination computer is not busy or turned off. If Windows still cannot find the network path, contact your network administrator. ). Group Policy processing aborted.
They occur exactly every five minutes, and always in this order. I searched for the gpt.ini file it's looking for and found it.

I don't really have any group policies in place, just basic users and computers. Nothing fancy. And I'm afraid I don't quite understand AD enough to just 'experiment' until I make these error go away.

Any ideas and/or guidance would be welcome.... thanks

A: Event 1030 & 1058, repeating. Guidance?

One possibility:
As per Microsoft: "This behavior may occur if the following conditions are true: your Windows XP-based computer is a member of a domain, and the Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS) client is turned off (disabled). To resolve this issue, turn on (enable) the DFS client". See M314494 to find out how to do this. Also check M810907 for a hotfix.

Hi, I hope someone out there can shed a little light on this situation as it's doing my nut in!

We have a network with 3 Windows 2003 servers and workstations all with XP. When the users log in a script runs which maps network drives and pushes printer connections etc. Also we have several group policies set which restrict pupils and staff in certain ways. Nothing drastic though. Just 'Cant see certain Control Pannel Items etc'.

Now all was working perfectly until a couple of weeks ago 2 staff members came to me and said "I can't get on the interenet or e-mail". I had a look and when they logged in on their normal computer it seemed to log in fine but then receieved a couple of "Cannot perform this action due to restrictions on effect on this computer" messages. This message also appears when they try to click on the Internet for example. On closer inspection it has run the scripts ok because I have the shared drives and printers. But the virus scanner which is sophos in our case hasn't loaded (it comes down from the server), also there is no All Programs in the start menu, or shut down.

If I log off and check the event viewer I have event 1030 there which refers to an error with group policy.

Now the most annoying problem is it appears completly random with it's timing. Usually a shut down and restart of the computer fixes it. Moving to another computer can also fix it. It dosent always do it on the same computers, other... Read more

I am running a Vista x 64 client with a SBS2003 server. There are now real critical issues, but there are some logon and logoff anomalies.

I consistently receive events 1030 and 40961 at Logon. I will post details in subsequent entries.

Also, Logoff usually takes a very long time (like more than 15 minutes).

System event broker stopped working on my windows 8.1 64 bit laptop. Going to services it says that it's startup is "automatic", but trying to start it gives me this message:

Code:
Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Task scheduler is dependant upon system events broker, and since it stopped working I havn't been able to install ANY drivers (Error: Invalid data) and my networked folders stopped working.

How do I enable / start System Events Broker?

Does anyone know what this event means?:

Registration of the DNS record '_gc._tcp.Default-First-Site-Name._sites.mydomain.com. 600 IN SRV 0 100 3268 GMSERVER1.mydomain.com.' failed with the following error:

I've altered the domain name for security....
I've been getting this event very frequently (see attached screen capture). I looked in to Microsoft's KB. It says that the most common cause for this error is a circular reference in the TCP/IP or DNS settings. I not a real ace when it comes to DNS settings, but I checked out everything I can think of, and can find no reference to an internal IP.

The network is running just fine, but I'm sure this event is evil and must be destroyed (or at least ignored).

Mike

A:Odd repeating event in W2K server...

Depending on the configuration and services running on a particular computer, different components perform dynamic DNS updates. There is no centralized way (such as a tool or registry keys) to manage the dynamic DNS update behavior of all components. This article describes each component and how to modify that particular component's behavior.

Which is causing the problem, I recommend you Disable Windows 2000 Dynamic DNS registrations, see:

I am getting regular Event ID 1002 DHCP Client errors- "The IP address lease 192.168.1.111 for the Network Card with network address..."

Weird thing it happens at close to the same time each day 24 hours apart. Almost to the second. I have a scheduled task to run at midnight in an effort to fix this. The task time does not align with the error.

Here are the actions of the scheduled task each day at midnight. I did not do anything to run this as administrator -

@echo off

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
netsh dump
nbtstat -R
netsh int ip reset reset.log
netsh winsock reset

It was something I found on the internet I thought to try to fix this recurring issue. No luck.

Can someone offer something else?

Alright, started getting the 1001 BugCheck crash with Event 41 Kernel-Power BSOD a few times not long ago, widely spaced out incidents (it will lock up, make a very weird repetitive noise through my stereo speakers and will also get black and white bars across the screen before the blue screen turns up and asks for restart option choice). And Event 4 k57nd60a has been ongoing for as long as I can remember.

Any ideas?

Memory exception but we need to examine the DMP files to find out why.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP
We could also use some system information, which you can get easily by running msinfo32.
To do that go to start>run>type msinfo32>enter

When it is finished running go to file>save>name it and upload to us here.
You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb ... Read more

Greetings,  I was wondering what to look for if I wanted to upgrade my 320-1030  in terms of a motherboard and CPU? I was contemplating upgrading the CPU to an A8-3820 on the existing board, but I now am wondering if it is possible to move to a faster CPU (which I am assuming would require a new motherboard  if that is possible).

Hi nmorrisonaz,

Not sure If any malware can do that.

But please do this. Click here to download Hijack This. Run Hijackthis.
Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

*Note: When you download Hijack This Do Not download it to a temp folder or to the desktop. Create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This and put it in that folder.

Hello, I've been saving up for some time now and I would like to build a good gamin computer. I know I have the right money to build a solid performing one, one that can run games on high quality too. The only problem is, I don't know which parts to buy. I do know how to build it however. I would like some help selecting parts from you. One final point, I will want it for doing other stuff, not demanding just practical uses like searching and making documents etc. Thanks so much!

You need to provide a little more info;
1 Do you want amd or intel?
2 Do you have any parts you are going to reuse ie case, keyboard/mouse, optical drive, etc?
3 Are you including the cost of windows for your new build?

Hello All;

System Software:
Windows XP SP3
Norton360 Antivirus
Webroot Spysweeper 5.5

First, Security Center and Windows Update is disabled and when I try to enable it I get a error 1058.

"Could not start the Security Center or Windows Update service on Local Computer Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated w/ it."

When I attempt to manually restart the services, the error appears again. Ran both spyware and virus scan with nothing found. I have attached a copy of my hjt file for review. Again, any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

A:Please help, error 1058

Hello Amy, Welcome to TSF!

I suggest you try this workaround for Windows Update issues...

How to Repair the Windows Update Files.

1. Go Start > Run.
2. In the box type REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL > Enter.
3. A message saying, "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded" will appear > OK.
4. Now it is necessary to repeat these steps for each of the following files commands:
Hit Enter after each line

REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL

Once finished; since the temporary folder of Windows Update may be corrupted, please carry out the following steps to rename the folder:

1. Go Start > Run > in the box type cmd > Enter.

Type the following command in the open panel.

net stop WuAuServ

(Please Note: the computer may need to be rebooted before the net stop command will work.)

2. Go Start > Run > type in the box %windir% > Enter.
3. In the opened folder, rename the folder ( by Right clicking) SoftwareDistribution to Sdold.
4. Go Start > Run > type in cmd > Enter. In the open command pane, please type:

net start WuAuServ

Once that?s done, Go Start > All Programs > Windows Updates and see if it will allow the downloading/installation of Windows Updates.

Post back with the results.

Kind Regards,

I had some spyware and used spyware doctor to clean the system and it is now clean according to spyware doctor. The issue is the red security sheild is in the sys tray and tells me auto update is off when I know it is on as I have it set to let me know of any updates. I went into services.msc and tried to turn on the auto update service but it keeps going back to disable. The 2 times it took it and when I went to start the service it gave me the error 1058. Also, I went to restore my system back a few days and it would not let me go back to any of my restore dates. Below is hijack log. This is the first time I have used hijackthis so I hope I have copied what you may need. Thanks for any help fixing my problem.

So I want to upgrade my RAM on the 320-1030. The specs page says "Two 200-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM sockets".It also says "Supports DDR3 SO-DIMMs" and specifically "PC3 10600 (1333 MHz)" and "PC3 12800 (1600 MHz)". Yet more HP contradictions (lies?)1) The parts page lists the item pre-installed is 572293-D88, a 204-pin item. See here, here, here, here, and here.2) Using the automated systems for major RAM sellers all indicate 204-pin RAM will work on the 320-1030. Crucial.comNewegg.com What gives?!?

Hi: I do not believe there is any such thing as a 200 Pin DDR3 SODIMM, so HP's reference to that is incorrect. A DDR2 SODIMM memory module is 200 pin, and a DDR3 SODIMM is 204 pin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SO-DIMM Paul

Of course when I google "DDR3 SO-DIMM (200-Pin) PC3-10600 i get all types of hits for HP Touchsmarts,  when I remove the (200-pin) from the search criteria i get all types of 204-pin RAM Sticks.

I would tend to beleive that HP's telephone support technicians in what sounds like india don't know and they're looking it up in their data-bases.  I believe the HP databases to be incorrect.  The best option is to remove a stick and see exactly what the label on the Memory Stick says, and then buy bigger sticks of the same RAM as in the computer.  I have 3 sticks to try,   DDR3 - 1066 MHz,  DDR3 - 1333MHz  & DDR3-1600MHz.  i think it's the

Hello my name is Aliy.
I'm here because my HP notebook's automatic updates are turned off. I tried to turn it back on but it won?t come on. I went the Microsoft website to see what the problem was and I kept on getting this error 1058: (The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.)
so I did what the instruction told me to do but nothing has worked so I decide to look up what error 1058 mean and I saw a lot of topics on this issue and what the people wrote was the exact same thing that was going on with my machine even with Trojan Virus (because it kept popping up).
I would appreciate it if someone can help me fix this problem. I usually don?t ask for help but I think I need it this time.
Thanks

Hi,Your system is severly infected. Problem with these infections nowadays is, it causes a lot of damage. Even if we clean the malware off your system, I can't guarantee that your system will be clean afterwards, because these infections/bundles leave a lot of leftovers behind that most scanners won't even recognise and logs won't show. Also, I can't promise you we can repair all the damage it caused... Even after cleaning the malware, you can still get errors afterwards because of the damage. Solving these is not always possible since it will be searching for a needle in a haystack to find the right cause and solution. So, we can try to clean this up and do what we can, but keep in mind that we can't solve ALL problems this malware already caused. In light of this it would be wise for you to back up any files and folders that you don't want to lose before we start. Reason I am telling this is because when a system is so terribly infected and we try to clean this up manually, the damage that is already present may interfere with our removal attempts. Please uninstall MediaBar 2.0 via software > add & remove programs. Then, * Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofixPost the log from ComboFix in your next reply.

I am totally obsessed with downloading music, but awhile ago I attemped to download an upgrade to the basic Kazaa system. Once I had fully downloaded the upgrade I went to click on Kazaa and a message popped up saying," You have uninstalled a part of Kazaa needed to run and to close and reinstall." (I believe it was called error 1030, I'm not positive though) Anyway, I uninstalled Kazaa and reinstalled several times and the same message keeps appearing.I checked to make sure I had all the needed componets to run Kazaa aswell. I can't figure out what to do. I tried other music sources but I can't find one I like as much as Kazaa. If you know what I should do please HELP!!

A:Kazaa Error 1030, any adivse?

What I would do is:

1. Use a spyware scanner to delete all the spyware that comes with the Kazaa download
2. uninstall Kazaa using the JV16 power tool
3. Do a file search for Kazaa and delete all of the files that are found.
4. Backup the registry
5. Use Jv16 power tool to clean the registry.
6. If you want to and are brave enough, do a manual search for useless Kazaa keys in the registry (be sure to have a backup if you do this)
Reinstall the latest Kazzaa with all of its Spyware. (Perhaps you might want to try Kazaa Lite)

In device manager I have the error "code 10 this device cannot start" I have tried almost everything so far. Reinstalled drivers multiple times, with multiple versions. Hello, we have recently purchased several HP Elitebook 1030 G1 notebooks. These come with Windows 10 out of the box, and no discs at all. HP seem to offer a Windows 7 recovery disc via drivers & downloads but this only seems to be for drivers and applications post-Windows 7 install. We still use Windows 7 (Enterprise x64) deploying via SCCM. As the laptop doesn't have a LAN port HP support suggested getting an HP USB-C to Ethernet adapter, but this doesn't seem to help with PXE boot. So moving onwards, I then attempted to do a manual install of Windows 7 x64 via USB. Initially it didn't even boot without turning off secure boot and turning on legacy boot. As the laptop has an M.2 ssd it is not even found by the setup process. I have now gone through adding sata and usb3 drivers via dism to boot+install wim's and also an MS hotfix for NVMe support (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2990941). Unfortunately after all this it is still not able to see the hard drive. Unless I am going blind I cannot see any information about this on HP Support. Has anyone done this on this model notebook or similar (ie M.2 ssd)? Thanks

Hi,

I am currently working on cleaning up a relative's laptop of malware. One of the things I noticed when I ran Spybot S&D was that it noted that Windows Security Center (along with Windows Firewall) is turned off. Registry settings for this service seem fine, and the service is set to Automatic start-up in services.msc , but something is stopping it from starting, and whenever I try to start it, I get an error 1058. (I have successfully restored Windows Firewall but I am not sure if it will be disabled once more.) A HiJackThis scan seemed to come up clean, and I have cleaned up infections found by Avast! and am running a SUPERAntiSpyware scan right now.

Thanks!

Dear techguy or chic,

I am having issues with an older secondary computer used once in a blue moon mostly by visiting nieces and nephews (I know - total mistake). I realized I had an issue a few days ago when I turned it on. According to my logs the initial infection occurred on 11/25. Prior to learning this I made a poor knee jerk reaction to download a registry cleaner program and this just added to my headaches. Registry fix did allow me to boot the computer without going through the backdoor of "last safe restart" but the onslaught of pop-up ads was insane hence I knew I was dealing with something more than just an old and abused PC.

Steps Iíve taken in the course of trying to figure out what was going on 1) scandisk, 2) disk cleanup, 3) disk defrag, 4) backed up all files and deleted unnecessary files, 5) downloaded hijack and malware as directed by your site in other threads 6) ran virus scan with updated files, 7) shut down restore points (all were wiped by virus anyway) rebooted and redid all of the above as suggested by MacAfee 8) rebooted and scanned again.

PC was disconnected from the web unless I needed an update.

Each scan/fix appears to be the one that kills the little bugger but within 20 minutes to three hours of being connected to the Internet the little devil is back. Can I really kill this thing or is it like a bad Freddy Kruger series?

Any help is welcomed but if it would be wiser to just buy a new hard drive let me know as I am afraid of... Read more

Having popups for internet security programs (usually opening in Firefox, although IE6 is mainly used for browsing), inability to start Task Manager, at times, Automatic Updates will not allow "Start" and receive "Error 1058" when attempting to start.

We're running Windows XP SP2. We tried vundu.org, but nothing showed up there. Then went to HijackThis, and here is our log: (Any and all help is greatly appreciated. )

So I must have downloaded something that wasn't good for this computer because it is not running like Anyways I'll get right to it. I was infected with a virus, I have ran Spybot S&D, AVG 8.0, Windows Defender, and SmitFraud. At one point in time I had a blue back ground that said "Warning: Spyware Threat has been detected on your PC." I was able to get that screen to go away, however it will not let me turn on my automatic updates. I keep getting a "Error 1058, The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."

Thanks a ton for any help!!

Hi,

Please guide me how I can get a driver for my brother printer HL -1030 for Windows 7. I called Brother office in Canada and they say this printer is not compatible with Windows 7. Is there any other printer driver I can download and get my printer working.

Thanks in advance.

Wonderdollar

A:Brother HL-1030 printer driver for Windows 7

You should be able to use the XP drivers and install them in compatibilty mode.

Here's a link to the XP Home/Pro 32-Bit Drivers
Brother Solutions Center: HL-1030: Downloads: Others

To run the installer in compatibility mode:

Right Click Installer > Properties > Compatibility > Select the OS you want. (In this case, XP)

I noticed my wireless 1030 is acting strange after getting BSOD(not the cause of Wireless but it was solved)and now I'm experiencing some problems, here are the issue. I'm worried if it is the NIC card

1.like it takes a while to connect to a certain webpage then whenI looked up on Event viewer it stated in the lines of Google too long to respond DNS

2. sometimes the wireless would switch off by itself and when I try to reconnect to my home router it says "Cannot find my router* yet I can see it shows my wireless router is available then when I look up event viewer it states " NETBIOS over TCPIP has entered Stop state".

I would have to click on

*Troubleshoot Problems which then would let me reconnect back in the router*

3. I have been getting this new event viewer error 5060:
The description for Event ID 5060 from source NETwNs64 cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

A:I'm having wireless Issues with the Intel 1030,Turning off by itself

It almost sounds like a nic driver issue. Have you updated it recently? Try to update, or roll-back if update did not work.
Replacing your nic should not be to hard depending on your device. Usually the nic is the easiest of the add-on boards to get to. But, I really don't think it's the nic. Were you changing, installing, updating anything with your hardware, operating system when this happened? If driver update/rollback doesn't work, try a system restore if feasible.

The video card in my Pavilion h8-1030 died and I need to find a replacement. If possible, I'd like to upgrade the card at the same time to the best possible card that would work on this system, within on total $350 budget. Being overly optimistic and with a big dose of wishful thinking I had actually ordered a MSO GeForce GTX 970 , but before it arrived I read that it will not work as teh BIOS version cannot be upgraded to version 8. So I am sending that card back as soon as it arrives. I am unable to buy a whole new computer at this time, so I'm going to have to settle for a new GPU (and PSU if needed). I don't game but I do use Adobe CC 2015 applications, mostly photoshop adn lightroom but ocasionally also premiere and in-design. Before failing the old card was struggling with certian photoshop functions and video editing was slow and frustrating. This is why I would like to upgrade the GPU. Motherboard H-RS880-uATX (Aloe)Processor AMD Phenom II X6 1090TMemory 10 GBBIOS, American Megatrends Inc. 6.12 Is there a list of compatible GPUs? Thank you ever so much for your help.

A:what Video Card upgrades are possible for Pavilion h8-1030?

Hi, The version 6 BIOS in your PC is not compatible with many of the newer graphics cards.  You will need to use an older legacy graphics card in your PC.  The processor and memory in your PC are more than sufficient for most use. I suggest that you look for a NVIDIA GTX 660 for around $226 new on Amazon. You can find the GTX 660 on eBAY for a lot less.  You will also need to replace the power supply. The Corsair CX650m should be around $55 after rebate.

Hello, i have an HP Touchsmart 520-1030, and i wish to upgrade it with i3-3225 processor that i own. Tried to replace it with mine i3-2120, but pc just does not boot. Any way to upgrade bios to support ivy bridge processors? For now i have latest bios 7.12. I see the only difference between models that support ivy and not, is MB name Lavaca3SB[supports ivy] and LavacaSB[does not]. Is it the same mb and i can install Lavaca3SB's bios to mine LavacaSB board or this will not work that way?

First up, hello everyone.

I have XP computers connected to a SBS2003R2 domain that is posting 1030 Userenv errors in the eventlog. I've not checked them all but three of them definitely are, so we can presume they all are.

Through Userenv.log, I've wiggled it down to two variants of:

USERENV(314.480) 21:50:37:892 ProcessGPO: CheckFilterAcess failed for <CN={C94DA5DA-A892-44ED-B77D-618A143ED5CC},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=[domainname],DC=local>. Filter not found

Followed by many of the following that correlate with the eventlog errors:

USERENV(318.868) 09:47:24:929 ProcessGPOs: GetGPOInfo failed.

My question is - whereto from here? OUs, GPO and the such is on the edge of my knowledge. It seems that if I can find what GPO is failing, I'm there.

A:Eventlog 1030 and userenv GetGPOInfo failed

I would suggest since you are apparently having troubles with a Small Business Server that you ask to have this post moved to the Networking forum here at TSG. You will get a better response there. You can do this by clicking the little triangle at the top right corner of the window and ask a moderator to please move this thread to that forum

hi!

hello, first off i have scanned with adaware pro se, spybot, and h2, also mcafee antivirus and a couple of online scanners--this is what remains

i have some pesky files burrowed into my pooter, i am pretty sure the files in the temp folder are bad....but when i search for the executable, all i can find are prefetch files....i think the prefetch files are generating the temp files...

i have used msconfig to stop some files from statring, and that has stopped an error screen that displayed this message at start up everytime:

rundll egdhtml-1030 dll error

i reactivated them in msconfig for this logfile...

also- whenever i turn on the computer, it frezzes up after booting to windows, i found that killing all the rundll32.exe files make it able to run again!!!!!!

so they must be bad, too...

here is my log, thank you very much for any help!!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Hi,I'm new in this forum and this is my first post. I hope you can help me.I have a very stubborn problem going on for weeks now.Trust me I've been in many many forums and in Microsoft Knowledge Base and read about many solutions but nothing seems to work. I have done also a windows repair installation to no avail either. The spooler won't start giving me error 1058.However, this is what seems to differ from similar posts for what I can tell or at least I haven't encountered any post mentioning it:In Services, if I double click the print spooler service to access the properties, it gives me another error before opening the properties box and it says:Configuration Manager: "The specified device ID is not a valid device ID" Then the properties box opens ok. But in the Logon tab the hardware profiles listing is missing The repair installation fixed some other problems I had such as not being able to boot in safe mode and the system restore not working. This is ok now but the spooler error hasn't gone away. My machine is clean of viruses and malware, I'm using ESET Smart Security and Spybot SD.There are no printers installed including pdf generators and to the best of my ablity I removed all traces from the registry using different advice from many other forums.Your expert help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you!

A:Spooler Error 1058 - Tried Many Forums With No Success ...

Sometimes this works. Uninstall the printer port then reinstall. (Even if its USB) When reinstalling make sure to let windows connect to the internet for the best possible driver update. Also insure that you have the lastest board drivers for your MB.

Hi,

I have a very stubborn problem going on for weeks now.
Trust me I've been in many many forums and in Microsoft Knowledge Base and read about many solutions but nothing seems to work. I have done also a windows repair installation to no avail either.
The spooler won't start giving me error 1058.
This is what seems to differ from similar posts for what I can tell or at least I haven't encountered any post mentioning it:
In Services, if I double click the print spooler service to access the properties, it gives me another error before opening the properties box and it says:
Configuration Manager: "The specified device ID is not a valid device ID" Then the properties box opens ok. Then in the Logon tab the Hadware profiles listing is missing ...

The repair installation fixed some other problems I had such as not being able to boot in safe mode and the system restore not working. This is ok now but the spooler error hasn't gone away. My machine is clean of viruses and malware, I'm using ESET Smart Security and Spybot SD.
There are no printers installed including pdf generators and to the best of my ablity I removed all traces from the registry using different advice from many other forums.

Your expert help would be greatly appreciated.

A:The Automatic Update is not started. Error 1058

Hello DJSweeting, Welcome to TSF!

Hey all. First time here but having a problem with my XP SP2.

Security center is disabled and when I try to enable it I get an error...

"Could not start the Security Center service on Local Computer
Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated w/ it."

Occasionally I'll get this "Generic Process for win32" error crashing on svchost.exe which seems to turn off a bunch of processes including windows audio, windows management, windows time, etc. I can re-enable the audio and it works fine. Systems runs fine otherwise.

Also, I can't re-enable Windows Firewall/Internet connection sharing...Both, security and this, go to the path of
svchost.exe -knetsvcs. It gives me the same error as above.

Any suggestions?

After recovering this system, I went to the HP site to download drivers for it.  The message I received is that there are no drivers for this model running that OS.  I am confused since the original OS on this system was 7.

@BocaRay?, welcome to the forum. Here are the Software and Drivers Downloads for the computer for Win 7.  If you haven't done so, you should run HP and Windows Updates, also.  You should use HP Support Assistant to check for HP updates.  The latest version of HPSA is here. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

I have a relatively new (few months) laptop of my own running Win7 x64 with an "Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030" wireless network adapter. For some reason, I have serious problems connecting to most wireless networks. On my home network there are rarely problems, but when I attempt to any other network (college, or public hotspot, or neighbor's open wireless) there are often issues.

By "issues" I mean: when I first attempt to connect to the network in question, I'm usually able to connect to the first few sites I try to access, but usually after a second or a minute or a few minutes of normal connectivity, I'm suddenly unable to access anything. The browser's response is that DNS lookup has failed; when I record an IP address (via ping-command prompt) and type it in manually after this point, the browser's response is that "##.##..." is taking too long to respond, etc..." No other program is able to connect either. I have tried setting different DNS servers but it has had no visible effect. At this point, the only thing I can do to reconnect is to either wait a long time for the connection to reestablish itself (which can take an hour or more and isn't guaranteed) or to go to Device Manager and disable and reenable the wireless adapter, which then *sometimes* allows me to reconnect for a few seconds or a minute or an hour before connectivity breaks again. When the connection fails, Windows displays the computer ... Read more

A:Unreliable connectivity - Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030

I had the same issue too. My GF's laptop has a 1030 wireless NIC and it had all sorts of issues connecting to the APs in my house. It would work fine with her Linksys wireless router and my Sprint MiFi. But had connectivity/performance problems when connecting to either of my Netgear APs (WG102 and WNDAP350) along with my PC W 620 wireless controller with AP 105 and AP 125 access points. Updating the drivers helped the problem somewhat, but we were still experiencing dropped packets or extremely high latency when connected. Upon a suggestion from one of my coworkers, I tried adjusting the performance/power settings in Windows and that seemed to have fixed the problem. The laptop has been running fine ever since.

I used a copy of windows 7 professional to wipe the system because I was giving it away. I have the operating system up but can not access the network card to access the internet. I've downloaded the drivers on the software page but get the message that the file is not compatible with the system. I see the recovery disk I can order, but was hoping to find an image of the recovery disk that I can download and burn to a disk myself. Overnight ordering still has a statement about it taking 2 days to process first. Is there another area online that I can get the recovery disk downloaded? Serial number: 3CR2160C7B Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I'm having a strange problem. Intel released new drivers to update from version 15.11 to 16.11. I downloaded them from Intel website, ran install, success. When I go into Device Manager to check on the driver version, I see it is still 15.11. I have tried a number of things, including deleting the drivers from the Device Manager and running the install again. However, in this case Windows 8 automatically installs even older drivers, version 14, dated 2011. I'd like to try the new drivers because it takes very long for the net to comeback after I wake up my laptop. Version 15.11 was installed by Windows Update, those drivers are dated January 2014.

Hello,

I sent my computer in for repairs a while back and now the wireless card won't work. It can't find any signals unless I plug in the one from my desktop. I went to computer/properties/device manager and saw that the wireless card (Intel (R) Centrino (R) Wireless-N 1030) has a yellow "!" next to it. The properties tab says, "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)".

I have tried searching for new drivers automatically but it says they are up to date. I downloaded the latest drivers directly from Intel and tried to manually update them but it said that the drivers are up to date again. This problem occurs whenever I update my computer. I did a system restore and it worked fine for about a month, but once it updated it did the same thing again. There is no restore point to go to this time, so I'm stuck.

Anyone know what I should do?

Thanks

This card supports 802.11n. Obviously... it's right in the name, plus device manager>network adapters>Intel Centrino>Advanced tab clearly shows n enabled.

But can anyone take a second to tell me, if you know, why when I run the command netsh wlan show drivers, "radio types supported" shows only b and g, and NOT 802.11n ??? Confusing to me.

Hi, Your machine was built before second half of 2014 therefore the chance to upgrade wireless card is very slim to none. There is a list on pp 6 and 7 of the following manual:           http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03099448.pdf You can use USB wireless adapter, this will cost you one USB port       http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/c/technology/networking/wireless-usb-adapters     (Note: much cheaper from other countries). Regards.

Hello, Wireless functionality was lost on my HP Pavillion dv7t-6c00 laptop when I upgraded to Windows 10. Here's what I have in my laptop now: Manufacturer: Intel CorporationDescription: Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1030Driver version: 15.11.0.8 I've read some support threads on this topic and it seems that this wireless card is not supported by Intel in Windows 10. I've also read that one suggestion is to replace the wireless card with an Intel Advanced-N 6230 wireless card. I tried to replace the wireless card prior to upgrading to Windows 10 with an Intel Advanced-N 6230 wireless card but the wireless card I purchased seemed incompatible with the laptop, as it gave me a Halted screen when I started up the laptop.  So my frustration is I would gladly and easily replace the wireless card but I can't keep purchasing cards that are incompatible with the laptop. What are my options?  Is there a specific/guarenteed HP Laptop compatible part number that I can purchase?   Even better, is there a link to where I can purchase a card that will definitely work? Thank you ver much,Chris

We're in a trial period for Windows Live OneCare, and it has repeatedly found and "removed" two trojans, Vundo and another one, con-something. System Restore is not working...no restore points, nor can I create one. Windows Automatic Updates are disabled, and no matter what I do, they will not turn on, or they seem to turn on, only to turn off again moments later. When we try to turn them on, we often get an error message 1058, saying it's either disabled or it has nothing associated with it. I'm underwhelmed by OneCare. Is there a better trojan removing scanning program I should try? Ahem...a better one that's also free or at least has a free trial period? Thank you for any help you can offer!

Hi. This is my first post here so please be gentle.I believe my HP Laptop contracted the Vundo. When things started getting screwy today I ran a scan with Norton Internet Security 2009 which detected Trojan Vundo and supposedly removed it (not so much though). Right around that time My NIS 09 "advanced protection" was disabled and despite numerous attempts to "fix it", it told me it can't fix it.Also Windows Automatic Updates were disabled. I tried restarting it through advanced tools but get nothing but the 1058 error.I am now getting a "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" error which brings on a 1 minute timed countdown to restart my computer. I have to run "shutdown -a" to stop it from restarting.I ran Norton's FixVundo program which took 3 hours to tell me it couldn't find anything.I do not have Spybot installed.I installed/updated/full scanned using Ad-Aware 2008. I am working on a friends computer which originally had Windows XP SP2. The computer had many viruses and spyware on it which I finally removed. Everything seems to work fine now except for the Internet. Bringing up IE 7 and entering any website causes IE to hang. The status bar says "web site found. Waiting for reply...", but it never pulls up the website and eventually times out. The CPU utilization shoots up to 100% with IExplorer.exe taking up around 80% of it.

I uninstalled IE 7 and tried the same thing in IE 6. Same result.

I tried installing FireFox 2. When I click on the FireFox icon, the browser never appears. The CPU utilization shoots up to 100% with FireFox.exe taking up most of CPU.

I have tried booting from the original Windows XP CD and choosing the repair option. This did not help.

I tried sfc /scannow. After rebooting, there was no difference.

I also noticed that the computer was not receiving Automatic Updates. When I pulled up the services, the Automatic Updates server was disabled. I tried to enable it, but XP put it back to disabled.

I downloaded and installed the latest Windows Update client form Microsoft. That did not help.

I downloaded XP SP3 and installed it. That did not work.

A couple months ago I restored my computer to its factory settings due to an unresolved issue which I believe had been a virus in its memory. Since then my antivirus program was Norton Antivirus 2005. I was unsure as to why I could not have the most updated Norton, which I had before the reboot, but had planned on looking into that over christmas break.

A few days ago I was on Surfthechannel and Facebook when I became infected with what I believe is the Trojan.Vundo. Random pop ups would come up and I would be unable to enable my Windows Automatic Update. I ran Norton which found and removed some problems. I then ran Avast which found some other issues and supposedly dealt with them. While pop ups would not come up anymore, any time I used the internet the window would change colors (the way it does when another window is opening, please ask if I didn't explain that enough) though it would not minimize and I still wasn't able to enable the updates. I then downloaded Windows LiveOne Care which scanned my computer and told me I had Vundo. After this I uninstalled the other two antiviruses and installed the LiveOne Care trial which told me that it had removed Vundo. But now it keeps alerting me to the fact that the Windows updates is disabled but I still can not enable it.

The first thought, have you tried reinstalling the Sound Drivers? either from the motherboard vendor or if you have RealTek you can get the latest from RealTek and install that.

I am unable to download updates for my operating system (Windows XP home edition SP2). When my system boots up, the Windows Security alert has a red shield with an X through it in the quick launch area in the lower right hand corner. When I click that and try to set it to auto there, i get the message "Security Center cannot change your settings, go to Control Panel, click System and change it there". I have gone to control panel to change settings, but in system it already shows automatic updates enabled. So then i went to start key, run, services.msc, and tried to enable Automatic updates there, but that is when i get the message "error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it". Also when I shut down, a box comes up that says "explorer.exe" is not responding...sounds bad to me....I have done alot of reading on web sites and such which led me to try many things (i have spybot and avg 8.0, both i have run extensively) and it also led me here...My DDS.txt log isDDS (Version 1.1.0) - NTFSx86 Run by Michael Tarbell at 14:44:38.98 on Sun 01/04/2009Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_05Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.767.340 [GMT -5:00]AV: AVG Anti-Virus Free *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated)============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:\... Hi, all. I have been trying to figure out a serious of issues that my PC has been having. It's possible they were caused by poorly seated RAM, but the RAM seems to check out now. There is a whole slew of details on the case here: TechNet with a lot more information that will be of help, including posted evtx files. I have always gotten great help here, though, and am in dire need of a second opinion, so I thought I would check with this forum's experts. Here is the basic gist, although there is a ton more detail on the other link:Since building this machine, I've had frequent BSODs, often seemingly-related to middle of the night MSE updates, or possibly other windows updates. These always required a System Restore to recover from, as Windows was unbootable. Often it said the Restore failed, but it seemed to resolved the bootability issue at least.I have removed MSE and reseated some RAM that initially tested poorly, but which now seems to be passing MemTest no problem.I still have a series of issues that occur, and the one that was causing noticeable issues was SuperFetch causing sysmain.dll to fault (Event 1000, posted below) on every boot and periodically throughout the day. I have disabled SuperFetch, which stopped the issue from happening every boot, but it still happens occasionally, so it seems SuperFetch is but one trigger. The other most common error I have is Event 55 (posted below), possibly related to Windows Backup and/or System Restore, which seems ... Hi all,

i tried loading the eventvwr.msc file from system32 folder directly as well as from the administrator tools, but i get:

"event log service is unavailable. verify that the service is running."

so i try to start the event log service, from the services.msc program;
whenever i try to start windows event log from services i get the message:

"Windows could not start the windows event log service on local computer.
Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified."

how can i specify the path?
or
how can i resolve the problem?

any help would be appreciated please---thanks

A:HELP need to solve this problem asap - Unable to start event viewer/event log service

Fire up regedit and find this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog

With "Eventlog" highlighted on the left pane, you should be able to see a value called "ImagePath" on the right. ImagePath should be equal to this:

%SystemRoot%\System32\svchost.exe -k LocalServiceNetworkRestricted

If you can't see "ImagePath" in that location, or if it's not set to the text above, that's almost certainly your problem. If you're in the habit of using "registry cleaners", that might be the cause.

I was running 3DMark06 and got a BSOD code 124. After that every time I boot Event Viewer logs Error Codes ID 3012 and 3011. Attached are screenshots of both.

I googled this and found two different threads where someone suggested to rebuild the performance counters. Both responses were basically the same, below is one. Neither of the OP's came back and said if this worked for them.

Re: LoadPerf 3011, 3012
Hi-
I had the same problem with LoadPerf and here is what I found out:
All performance counter names and explain text are maintained in string tables managed by the performance counter subsystem (Perflib).

The current contents of the performance counter string tables are corrupted and cannot be displayed. To correct the problem, rebuild the string tables.

User Action
To rebuild the string tables, on the computer that displayed the message, at the command prompt, type Lodctr /r
The contents of the string tables are automatically rebuilt.

I hope this helps

Since this was from 2008 (XP?) and the other response was for Vista I wanted to see if the guru's at SevenForums thought that this was okay before I did this.

Here are the screenshoots of my two errors.

A:After BSOD Event Viewer Logs Event ID 3012 and 3011 every time I boot

Rebuilding the string tables as outlined in my first post fixed the problem.
