Hi, I wish to replace my internal 54 mb mini pci wireless card with a faster 108 mb one, however when I asked hp support what specs I need, they claimed I cannot, I can only use a faster external adapter type. Anyone one know if theres a way around this? Will my bios not support another card?More replies
Hey I bought a satellite mini three weeks ago and up until today it worked sufficiently.. I had been charging it all day. And would occasionally switch it on to check the second battery was charging. Note unfortunately it won't switch on at all. Anybody else have this problem or know where I can send it to get it repaired?
I've found that sometimes you have to hold the power button for well over 5 seconds to power it on. I hold it down until you see the screen back light come on faintly. A quick press shows the charge status.
I have the following big problem with my Satellite Click Mini L9W-B - this happened already two times.
I suspect that this may be connected to some Windows 8.1 setting. It also may be it is BIOS related.
PROBLEM: if I leave the laptop in a sleep mode (by just closing the lid), then If I do not use it for some time (>10 hours) then after that I could not switch the laptop on - it simply does not respond to any keys including the power on button. It does not matter whether I connect the power or disconnect it, I still can not power on the laptop, also it does not matter whether I try it with or without the keyboard attached. BUT: the battery on back on the screen is warm ,so obviously the laptop has not been switched off completely and something (i.e. windows sleep mode or bios or something else) is preventing me to power it on.
The solution I have so far is to leave the laptop for a very long time disconnected (to drain the battery completely - it will not be warm any more!) and then connect the power and then it will be able to switch on. Alternatively, opening the screen cover and manually disconnecting the battery and then connecting it again also work. After that the laptop can be switched on and works fine.
Obviously it is not very good because to wait very long (several days!) or to open the cover is not really a good option when you need the laptop!
Can you help?
May be it is something to do with some power-saving features of Windows?
There is a quick workaround instead of waiting for the battery to drain...
Hold down power button for around 20-30 seconds. That should hardware turn off the power completely allowing you to turn it on again.
Update the bios to the latest version and apply all windows updates after that, that may solve the sleep bug issue
I had to update my bluetooth drivers (Intel) before I could finally get sound to come out of my new UE Mini Boom speakers.
But I still have a problem. If I am watching a Youtube video in a web browser (doesn't seem to matter which) and then switch to a video in VLC or Win Media Player, the sound from the new source doesn't play on the speakers. I have to power the speaker off and then back on and then it will pick up the new audio.
When I had a USB speaker the source-audio switched without any problem. Are there any settings that I can update, or should I just accept that a bluetooth speaker was a terrible idea for Win7?
Youtube uses the Adobe Flash Player. VLC/WMP or whatever media player does not and thus different audio source. One thing to check, that may or may not make a difference, is if you have Stereo Mix set as the default recording device. This can affect sound playback. Stereo Mix is found in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound panel, Recording section.3 more replies
Im about to purchase this
Netgear GS105 Prosafe 5 Port Gigabit Mini-Switch
But before i do, i would like to ask some questions about this item.
First, the reason im going to buy this, is that i have a ps3 in a room 50 feet away from the room with the computer and the modem and router. I can only recieve about 25 to 40% signal from my router to my ps3 and the games lag online. I was wondering if i get this gigabit mini-switch, will i loose any speed to my computer or ps3. I plan on running a cat6 line to the ps3 in the other room. I have comcast high speed internet. And another question is , can i run my computer and the ps3 at the same time with this item without any problems?

My hp pavilion recently updated itself to Windows 10. Since the update i have been unable to switch it on whether plugged in to a power source or not. While plugged in to a power source it sometimes illuminates the orange charge light, sometimes it flashes when i press the power button and sometimes it does nothing at all. This pavilion is only 6 months old and used infrequently.

Good afternoon, I have a mini desktop Pavillion 300-240 and im considering buying the Monitor portátil USB HP EliteDisplay S140u (G8R65AA) to use as a portable monitor. I have 3 questions: 1) eventhough its considered an empresarial product there isnt any problem in using it residencialy right? 2) i see the connection of the monitor is only by USB, but i have the DP port in the mini desktop free. Is there an HP cable to connect this monitor USB through the DP port without wasting any of the usb ports? 3) my preference would be for a portable monitor for the mini desktop that when disconnected worked as a tablet. Is there such a product in HPs portfolio? ThanksHugo SilvaMore replies

Ok so I just recently got a Dell optiplex GX 755 PC that has-
*Intel core 2 quad processor 2.4 GHz
*320GB hard drive (kinda small i know, i'm looking to upgrade that as well)
I'm posting this here to see if anyone knows mainly what graphics card i could get that would make my PC gaming friendly. It doesn't have to be the most amazing stellar quality card out there since iv had (some) people tell me that you cant upgrade these PCs much. But just some good quality advice on the subject and maybe a recommendation on what card brand to get as well as the specs for it. Also a recommendation for a video card would be greatly appreciated as well. Sorry for my ignorance on on the subject, i am new to the PC world. I ended up having to get this computer in a pinch because I am a small time graphics design artist and my laptop died, and I had orders coming in. I'm not looking for a quick fix to the problem so even if anyone has a solution that may take a bit or quite a few steps to get underway, the help is still greatly welcomed! I am hoping if its at all possible to make a good situation out of this and maybe build this PC to fit my needs. Thank you to anyone who can help!

I bought my Pavilion dv6 laptop from HP in 2012 without the Blu-Ray option? Can I switch out the dvd for blu-ray now? If so, how do I go about it?
I will be needing the exact model number to find precisely the correct part but it is a piece of cake. Flip the laptop onto its back and there is a single screw either accessible directly on the bottom or inside the service bay. Remove the screw and the DVD drive slides out and you can purchase a Blu-Ray reader and DVD burner combo drive on eBay or amazon.com and slide that into its place, replace the screw and you are ready to go. You will need a Media Player which allows Blu-Ray playback if you want to watch movies. The price of all optical drives has come way down in the last couple years. 2 years ago a Blu-Ray drive would have cost over $100US but now it is likely to be $50 or under. You can also rebuild your drive module using a generic Blu-Ray drive and swap over the mounting hardware and faceplate but there is just not much to be saved that way any more as the price of the full drives with all hardware and plastics has come so far down. I will say that if you have a standard resolution laptop screen like 1366 x 768, the difference between a movie on a DVD and a Blu-Ray is hard to tell. Blu-Ray is noticeably superior at full HD 1920 x 1080. Tutorial on finding exact model number: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c000331081 more replies
When the WiFi button (F12) is pressed the LED show red and a message on-screen briefly says "Flight Mode ON" and the network connection icon in the notification area shows a red X. - this is expected - however When I press F12 the on screen message does breifly display "Flight Mode OFF", but the LED stays orange and WiFi is disbaled. If I click the network icon in the notification area the panel that appears says Flight Mode OFF, WiFi (OFF). I simply cannot re-enable the WiFi with the F12 key. If I go to Computer->Properties->Device Manager, select the Wireless Adapter I can switch the WiFi back on by going to the Advanced tab and selecting Radio->Enable. If I do this the let then goes white and WiFi is OK. So what is going on - why can't I simply toggle the WiFi off and on with the F12 key. Why to I have to resort to the device manager to switch it back on again?
Solved my own problem - if it help others ....the WiFi Driver update dated 25/09/12 caused the problem in my case.Right click on 'Computer' select 'Advanced' and open Device manager. Locate the WiFi Adapter and choose the 'Roll back driver option' to restore the previous driver - worked for me. You think someone would test drivers better than this !!!9 more replies

I just reinstalled my computer with windows 7 64bit and I have HP pavilion dv7 6050ec with two graphic cards : mobility radeon HD 6770M and a generic Intel HD Graphics Family. Since I reinstalled the computer, I no longer have to option to chose what graphic card I want to use. Before this reinstallation I could just right click on the desktop and there was a option that said Switch Graphical units, but now there is nothing like that. And I have the latest drivers for both graphic cards and latest Catalyst Control Center and Direct X installed. And in device manager all drivers are installed correctly. So I have no idea what to do.
Have you looked in BIOS to disable the onboard video? I don't know where that option came from, I confess that I've never seen it. Otherwise, you could try and disable the onboard video in the device manager.3 more replies

puke: I am not too familiar with working with sd cards in fact this is my first one. I was trying to sync my windows media player music list onto the card and it had almost finished and got to the last song when it just stopped and said no device was found and the computer did not even recognize that the card reader was plugged in anymore. so after I pulled it out and then reinserted the card reader it now tells me that the card is not formatted andif I try to format it I am told that windows was unable to complete the format. Not sure what I am doing wrong. If anyone has any info I can use I would appreciate it. Thanks
the same techniques should apply:
I bought this 2GB mini sd card just before christmass for my PDA phone ppc-6700. the problem is any time the storage capacity on it reach the level of about 120MB it will hang and freeze my phone. i use software called SP tasck manager from binarys.com because i was not able to format it by using the windows xp on my laptop, but still the same thing. keep in mind that when i go to storage setting on my phone it will show me the right space left on it.
Then i use it with the usb card reader on my laptop, format it FAT32 and loaded until it reach the same level and error from windows saying something like delay in wrinting...
What can be done i can only used now as 100MB card not 2GB.
There is a chance its a fake card. Its not uncommon to find great deals online while looking to buy cards that big (I know because I looked for 2gb regular sd and a 2gb micro) and it turns out a lot of them are fakes, and instead of being full capacity they are only 128megs or so. Which would line up about right with what you are seeing. Somehow they are even able to make them incorrectly report their size to Windows. - Read that somewhere a while back, but can't seem to find any information on google.
Where'd you get the card?
I have installed a DW700 mini GPS card I bought off ebay in my Latitude E6410.
Systems is: E6410, 500gb hdd, i5 CPU, 8GB ram, Win 10.
I have the card installed in the Dell On PCIe slot (by removing the top blank half of the card to make it fit a half space slot. I have re-routed the spare WLAN antenna to the location for the GPS receiver.
I have the driver installed WD700 CP210x Uart bridge and it shows up as COM3 which I have since switched to COM5 (I use a USB to RS232 to program radios that I have set up for COM3)
I am not getting a NMEI string from the unit.
It shows up under ports in device mannager, and also shows up as connected to one of the USB hubs (so the PCIe slot must have USB support).
No matter what I do I cannot get the thing to send NMEI data over COM5. I have tried various GPS specific apps that look for NMEI data on COM ports, and have also tried getting the data my using various terminals & hyperterminal applications to no avail.
I am thinking this is just another USB driver issue, I have had USB RS232 drivers not work in the past. Is there an alternative driver I can use? Perhaps a prolific variant?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
I have a sprint boradband usb card but inside is a mini pci card.
there have been people who have been able to install this card into their laptops.
i tried and it has failed.
so here is what i did.
1. i opened the u720 usb modem
2. took out the mini card
3. opened the mini pci bay on my laptop
4. took out the wifi card
5. installed my sprint card and hooked up the factory antenna (yeas i know, different frequencies, but i'm told that just lowers the signal a bit)
6. tried to boot. power light came on and fan and such for a bout 5 seconds and unit turned off. tried several times and it did not boot.
7. put wifi card back in and unit booted fine.
so, i believe that the problem is that the bios did not recognize the device which is why it would not boot? i have all of the current drivers and firmware installed.
is there some thing i need to do to tell the bios to accept my sprint card? something i need to do somewhere else?
any help would be great!

I'd recommend you connect to the internet directly with an ethernet cable, then see if device manager can find the driver for you. Also, if you can get online that way, update everything in Windows Update, since that might also find the right driver for you.3 more replies

Hello everyone. I'm using Windows XP 32 bit. I've been having trouble with reading the Mini SD Card on my phone, a Nokia 7310. I am using an SD Card adapter to put it into to my laptop. The mini SD card is a Sandisk 1GB card and the adapter is an A-DATA. When I put it into my laptop, it makes a noise exactly like the one it makes when a USB device is connected, showing it's atleast detected it. However, after that, there is no more. The "stop device" doesn't show up in the system tray, and there is nothing in "My Computer".
I have put it in once before. I successfully added music to the card, and got pictures off the card. I "safely" removed the card, and put it back into my phone. Everything went, for once, like clockwork (technology for me never seems to function like it's meant to on the tin).
So in summary, it's detecting the card because it makes the noise, and it's worked before, so I kinda doubt it's a hardware problem. I suspect it's in software. The only thing I've changed since then is the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" option (I asked it to show them). All answers appeciated! Thanks in advance.
Hello again, problem solved! Sorry about that. I remembered that I'd put on a password lock on my card on my phone. I got rid of the password, lo and behold, it works. Thanks anyway!

Hi, welcome to TechSpot
Since nobody has answered this thread, i will give a generic how-to-guide...
i have no experience with a fujitsu, but if it's like most laptops, there will be an access panel on the bottom of the case. it's usually a just 1 screw then it pulls up and out which will give you access to your mini PCI card.
mini-PCI cards lock in similar to laptop RAM sticks, there will be 2 locking tabs toward the top of the card, release them both at the same time and the card should "pop" up, then simply pull it out. it will be the opposite procedure to instal the new one
hope this helps... good luck
I'm setting up a Thinkpad 2647(T22 or 23?) with win98se for a technophobic neighbour.
Trying to set up a new dial up account, (the owner doesn't have broadband) the screen asks me to install a new modem.
Device manager doesn't show any icon for a modem in its window, but does show query marks against all the pci entries including the PCI serial controller.
Properties for these all show "No driver installed for this device", and Resources show "...do not match any known configuration".
I've run Everest (ver 1.51), and that tells me there is an AT&T/lucent winmodem present in the PCI devices list.
I've re-seated the mini pci card which is a combo modem/LAN(?) card but no change.
Am I on the right track in trying to locate the problem, or looking in the wrong direction ?
Is it a software problem of not having the pci drivers installed, or have I got a duff card ?
I've been into the bios settings, and the first thing I noticed was a mac address of the lan card, but no mention of a modem.
Went to config/network, where it showed lots of lan entries - "wake up on lan" etc but still no mention of modem anywhere I can see.
Am I looking in the wrong place ?
Do I need to go down all the .dll entries in Everest to see if there are drivers missing ?
If I identify the combo card, find the drivers on the net somewhere(?) then download them to this pc, where do I file them on the problem machine ?

You should be able to use the driver at www.lenovo.com support and download site. Just enter the full type number without the dashes, examin the listed modem for that unit, then download the driver that fits the description in the Thinkpad Matrix for that model.
The modem will not show up until you run the install of that download.

Hi guys thanks for looking.
I recently bought a dell true mobile 1150 wireless series mini pci card for my laptop along with a pair of antennae to install in my inspiron. It didn't come with any drivers but I managed to download the latest driver and client manager from the dell website. The installation seemed to be fine but I can't seem to detect any wireless networks on it. I shut down the computer last night and when I woke up this morning it was working fine but after I rebooted again It wasn't able to my wireless connection.
I have verified that the radio is turned on and power management seems fine what else could be the cause?
edit: the firewall on my computer is also disabled
also i've just upgraded the firmware of my netgear fvm 318 router but still no luck
I purchased a mini SD card that has a file system loaded on it that prevents any format, I can not clear the card for reformating. it may have been in a pda at some point but the guy says it should be new. I tried to insert in my pda and all kind of strange stuff happens to the functionablity of the pda. I can add information but nerver remove any of it. I did try to format and the bar graft completed format to a RAW state but now it will not allow it to be reformatted in fat, the file stuctures are still there and viewable. one file has like wing ding letters so I assume it maybe a propriatary OS or information.
I would like to reformat this card please...HELP
Try Bc wipe first then format it. http://www.jetico.com/

Per the title, upgrading the home router, and I am seeking an upgrade from my internal Intel Centrino N-2200 to an AC compatible card. The last thread posted on this topic is about a year old (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/any-wireless-AC-PCI-express-cards-approv...), so I thought I would repost with the latest BIOS revision. I have reviewed the equipment list here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd024705 but the bullet points titled "PCIe Half Mini Card", "Wireless WAN upgradable on selected models", "PCI Express Mini Card" are a bit ambiguous. Are there any AC whitelisted wireless cards? How would I be able to determine if my WAN Adapter is upgradable? Thanks.More replies
I have a new Samsung EVO micro SDXC UHS-I 128 gig card. I planned on using this card to store flac files on for my Ibasso DX90 Digital audio player. I have used other cards in my player and have had absolutely no issues. The player doesn't require any specific software to install files. Drag and drop into the sd card and they should play. The card doesn't need to be in the player to load files. I usually use a card reader for this.
This is what happens:
The card is always visible as a drive letter.
I create a folder for each artist as I load the files.
Load an album into the folder and it appears to be there.
Create another folder...load the album...appears to be there.
Go back to the first folder I created and the files in that folder have disappeared, although I know their there as the capacity on the card has been reduced.
I have just installed a new mini card on my laptop to increase it's download capacity.
The problem I seem to be having is that my link speed seems to be intermitently jumping from my new speed to my old speed, and it also seems to be very unstable.
Is there anyway I can stop it from going back to my old link speed and stay on the new link speed?
Not sure if it is relavent but when I am not using the web it seems to be stuck on 72mbps, but when I use the internet it seemt to increase to over 100mbps.
Is this the way mini wifi cards work on laptops, are they normaly working at 72mbps and somehow when you need bandwidth they use more than one channel to get more bandwidth.
i got an Inspiron 15R 5537 and want to change the WiFi mini card that operates only in the 2.4 Ghz band with another that operates in dual band 2.4 and 5.0 Ghz. Is this possible? What parts are compatible with my device and where do i get them from? Below is my configuration:
555-BBCB : Dell Wireless 1705 802.11b/g/n with Bluetooth v4.0

I've just installled this adpter in my laptop. I found out that if the SSID of my Access Point is hidden or not broadcasting I'm not able to connect manually. If the SSID is broadcasted the adapter works fine. I've checked to make sure it has the lastest drivers as far as I can see it does. I'm not finding much for support for this product though. Can somebody please help me out?

I've got a Thinkpad 600E that I'd like to install a Wi-Fi card of some kind in. Can anyone suggest a specific make/model of card that would be compatible with the 600E that's running Windows 98SE.
And is my best bet to just swap out my PCI Mini modem and replace that with the Wi-Fi card? My guess is that installation would have to be the simplest, but are there other options (equipment).
If you have an alternate suggestion, can you provide hint(s) as to the ins and outs of the installation. I'm pretty capable, but can't express to having huge practical experience with the Thinkpad. General directions would be beneficial for whatever is proposed.
I always feel goofy answering my own postings, but I guess if others benefit from the answer - who cares?
First, I've come to realize that a PCI card isn't going to work, since the 600E does not have such a slot . That leaves PCMCIA (PC Card) or a USB adapter. Personally, I've taken a long hard look at either the D-Link Air DWL-650 or the WPC54G card, as both will work with Win98 on both 600E and 600X systems.
i have a toshiba Satellite a10 laptop. psa10c035wm. i have update the driver of the wireless lan mini card to vers. 7.82.0550 as i was unable to access the wireless card with the earlier version. i am still unable to have this card access the internet. it was working before, however when i changed my modem to rogers cisco it says unable to connect. Hi, im having problems with my mini pci wireless card in MSI U130 notebook, it keeps dropping the signal and then when i try to reconect it cant find any networks at all. To get it to reconnect i have to restart but this dose not always work, disable the raido in settings, or unistall driver, or reinstall windows.
so this is what ive tried already
updated the drivers using the MIS Live update tool
Unchecked the box that says "allow computer to turn off device"
Deleted drivers and reinstalled
Deleted windows 7 and reinstalled fresh copy (works for a few days then starts to drop again)
Reinstalled windows 7 and only used the windows 7 driver Not updated it

From that and the other stuff you've tried and described I think that the card or motherboard is intermittently defective. If it's the motherboard there's nothing you can do. If it's the card you could replace it with the exact same model or one that you know is supposed to work in that model laptop.
My advice is to keep the USB adapter in your pocket or laptop case and use it when needed.
On my gateway laptop, my internet connection will work for about 5 or 10 mins. Then out of the blue, my computer will lock up for about a min and my Orinoco mini PCI card goes dead. When I mouse over the icon, I get "wireless network card not operational".
Usually after about 2 mins, my laptop functions again, but without and internet connection. I can still see all the wireless networks available.
Any ideas? Thanks!
First, see if there is a firmware upgrade for the network card... or gateway drivers changes.
The Orinoco chipset is used in a great number of laptops. Many came with the older drivers or firmware. You can usually download drivers from the Orinoco site if not from the Gateway site. You Uncompress them to a folder on your leaptop, then Go to into the control panel, Select System, Under the hardware tab click the device manager button, Right-click on the ORiNOCO mini PCI Card under the network adapters, select Update Drivers from the context menu. Next, select Install from list or specific location. Now select Don't Search. I will select the driver to install. Click Have Disk. Navigate to the folder where you uncompressed your drivers, then select WLAGSALL.INF
Click Open and ignore warnings.
When the drivers are completed, reboot.
If this doesn't work, you may have a failed unit.

I would like to upgrade the wireless card (Broadcom 802.11 g) to an N card, dual band if possible. My question is; what is the right card and part number? I believe the HP Mini 5103 card will work in the 2102, but I am not certain of this capability. Does anyone know the best wireless adapter card to swap out? Thanks in advance for any help!
Hi, Have you heard WiFi whitelist in BIOS ? I don't know the model/product of your HP Mini 2102 but I believe this series came out around 2010. The chance to upgrade wifi card for machines which were built before mid 2014 is from very, very, very slim to none. Regards.2 more replies
I have a Toshiba TE2100 laptop with wirless card built-in. The laptop also have at the left side a switch that allows to turn ON or OFF the wireless function. The computer also have a front red light that should flash when the wireless is activated. My computer is attached to a wireless network based on a wireless router LINKSYS 802.11g WUSB54G. The computer runs under Windos XP professional SP3
The problem is as follow:
When I start using Internet I would expect the wireless adapater (Mini PCI card built in ) worked just identifying my network and I would be able to search through internet, but unfortunately nothing happen: the front red light is not flashing when the wireless switch in the left is turned ON
Woking around with possible solutions:
I went to device manager and the device is hidden, so I have to use the view option to reach it, then I tried to update the driver, and the driver wizard just says that the device is working properly. Once I update the driver, it says windows did not find a better driver that the one installed.
Should I do something else? Do I missing something in order to activate the wireles card?.
Thank you in advance. Any help it will be graetly appreciated

Just moved to W7 from XP. I have everything working - except my USB Mini SD Card reader.
I have a Cyclo DS card and have been accessing the card - no problem through XP. The card is formatted as a FAT32 (as required).
When I put it in with W7 - it tells me that I have to format it first.
The obvious solution is to copy everything using an XP installation and then format.
I just wanna know why doesn't it work?
I'm having the same problem. Bought a new Gateway desktop from Tiger direct and as it was refurbished i thought it was possibly a setting - but haven't found anything that in any way will affect it.
If this is Window's 7 problem I would love to see a solution. It's embarassing to have this wonderful computer that should be able to read any disk format and have to go to the front desk to get a card reader any time I need to download pics and the agent hasn't brought a cable.
Hi, I am having a problem with my dell wireless lan minicard which is intergrated into my dell inspiron laptop.
I have been searching the internet and i have found some information on increasing the power output of the card. I am wanting to increase the power output of the card, not the router for various issues.
I found some information regarding hacking into the HAL, some part of the firmware in network cards that can contain the power output information.
If someone can provide me with a guide on doing that it will be appreciated.
Also, if anyone knows any third party software, or firmware that can increase the power output of my dell wireless mini card it will be appreciated.
Please don't reply with information regarding the router as i have been searching the internet all day to increase the power output of my wireless card and found most of the information regarding the router which i dont want.

No conflicts in device manager and all the drivers are up to date
i hope someone has a solution because my son has to use it in school
in network connections the icon is activated and when i switch on/off it tells me there are no connections available
Some manufacturers (Toshiba is one) actually put an "on-off" switch somewhere on the lappy and eschew using a FN procedure. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful, but it's hard to find a trustworthy website where I can DL a manual to make sure.3 more replies
My PC's card reader is able to read SD cards. I'm just wondering if it is also able to read mini SD cards. Thanks.
Provided you have an adapter, I see no reason why not. The Mini SD to SD adapters are commonly available.
Without the adapter, the card would not be able to be extracted I suspect.
Hi, Just installed a PCI (e x1) Wireless card and Windows Vista (64bit, all latest updates) will not detect it. I have tried it in 2 PCIe x1 slots (my mobo has 2 of these) and I get the same problem in both. I have the latest drivers for the device.
Interestingly, when the power is off and I plug the card in a light shows on the card. As soon as I turn my PC on, the light goes out and doesn't come back.
The wireless card is an ABIT WLP-01 card.
Is this a problem with the mobo/bios or with vista? I'm out of ideas so I'm hoping someone out there can shed some light.
Thanks for reading.

Hi! My AR5BXB63 wireless card in My MSI VR630 just failed. I'm thinking of purchasing a different mode, one which supports wireless n mode, like this.
My question is, that will this work in my laptop? I think it will, becasuse as far as I know, PCIE is a universal interface and it should support anything I plug into it whith the same interface. Though it is mentioned on the ebay page that it will only work with certain chipsets. Who is right then? Also, there is a wifi enable/disable button on my notebook, will that work? Or is that button the reason why this wireless card won't work with any chipset?
Thanks in advance.
PCI-e IS universal, it will work with every MB, but your OS has to have drivers for it. Either built in, on the manufacturers website, or on windows update (I have Win 8 and it had no drivers for mine, so I had to use my power line adapter to supply internet to my computer for windows update to get the driver). So what I am saying is as long as you have a wired internet connection to use as an alternative then you should be fine.
My Insprion E1505 laptop worked flawlessly right out of the box - the Dell (Broadcom) 1390 mini card connected immediately after entering password and has not had a single problem until tonight - it's almost as dead as a doornail. I have a WEstel Versalink router from Bell South and Ewido security sutie and NOD32 antivirus - all else on my computer is completely normal. I have sonic wall and use it to remote into my work computer, but haven't had any problems. No viruses detected on Ewido or NOD32.
I downloaded most current driver from dell site and installed to no avail. Upon startup tonight, it didn't even "see" my wireless network initially. I click View Avail networks and after two refresh tries, it did finally see it. I rebooted several times with the same result always. When I did finally get lucky and it did see my Westel router and connect, the speed on the very first initial connection the very first time i open an internet explorer box is perfectly normal. That is the only way i'm able to post this. Whenever you open another box in addition the very first IExplorere box opened or whenever you shut the inital box and open a new one, the speed slowly fades and dies at about 24mbps. This is nauseatingly familiar with all the troubles we had with the Intel 2200 card a year ago - we completely gave up on it and NEVEr got it to work once for man the 5-10 clicks before the connection just died.
Anyone have any thoughts at all? I posted a Hij... Read more
Do you know that the router works fine with another wireless PC?
If you don't know and can't find another PC to test it, and keep it on all the time, unplug it for an hour or so.
If your signal is encrypted, try w/o encryption to see if that makes any difference.
Make sure you know your important settings, reset the router to factory default settings, reconfigure as needed.
Try your laptop with a friend's router or a free public hotspot.
You are using either the adapter's utility or Windows' WZC to manage the connection. Make sure the other one is not running, as they conflict and result in various problems. Try using the other one instead.
Download NetStumbler and see if you can glean anything from it--does it say your signal is strong and remains constant; any noise; any other networks; etc.?

This is strange. You dxdiag is showing that your video device is the Intel on-board graphics card and not the Nvidia card. It is also loading the drivers the Intel video drivers. This could be causing a conflict with your Nvidia drivers. I would check out device manager/BIOS and try to figure out what's going on.

This is my first question to Techspot.
Can anyone advise me which Mini PCI wireless card would be compatible for my Toshiba 1410-303 laptop? I've got a hunch that I shouldn't just rush out and get the latest card. I have a Dell X200 with this wireless card installed. I can connect to none secured internet with it but not to secured internet where a password is required to gain access. When I try to connect I get the message that the network is unavailable. The computer can "see" the network or hotspot but can't access it. I spent about 4 hrs with it last night and tried everything I could think of from manually adding the hotspot to automatic detection to no avail. Other that trashing the computer do you have any suggestions as to how or why this is happening? Thanks in advance for your help!
Have you tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling?
guys this one has me stumped cold. Dell Inspiron laptop, very clean software wise, had original mini-card [internal] which could not detect any wifi networks - known good wifi AP's. All the windows checked showed the device working properly but I finally replaced it with one of the better "n" cards out there. Same thing all over again. Put it right next to a working AP, cannot detect a thing. Antennae is hooked up properly.
If I plug a good WIFI stick into USB, it works immediately, no drama.
I have no idea what is preventing this from detecting anything. What should I be looking for?
It appears that the 'Wireless Card' is currently 'Disabled'; please check its status in 'BIOS' and 'enable' it if needed. To access 'BIOS' you may follow the steps listed below:
- Power off the laptop > Power it back on and at 'Dell splash screen', repeatedly tap 'F 2 key' (BIOS screen should appear) > Usually 'Dell Inspiron' laptops have a 'category' named 'Advanced' > Ensure that WLAN is enabled > 'Save Settings' and 'Exit'
(Note: BIOS setup may vary based on different laptop models)
If the wireless card still does not detect any networks in 'Windows', try tapping <Function><F2> or only <F2> if the previous key combination does not work. This is the 'radio control' for the 'Wireless Card' installed in the system.
Hope this helps. Do reply with the finding; would be glad to assist.
Well recently i been having a massive downturn in wireless speed, at the regular my speed would be 54mbps but now it would fluctuate down to 1.0mbps which i must say is extremely frustrating for skype calls and gaming. I tried the dell website to see if i could update my card and through windows update however dell doesn't support my laptop anymore. I don't get whats wrong i tried dns changes, messing with the adapter settings but nothing would work. I tried a different wireless adapter and it worked fine. So could it be that the adapter is failing or do i need a new driver for that particular hardware.

I'm going bananas! Here's the scoop. I have a desktop & Dell 1520 laptop running thru a Netgear 2000 router/modem. The problem is with the laptop. I've set up the router wireless with wpa-psk security with the ethernet cable & everything works fine when I disconnect the cable. When I shut down for a night, laptop & router both off, then turn everything on the next day it connects wirelessly & all is fine. Here's the problem. If I leave everything on & let the laptop go into standby & then hit the switch to bring it out of standby, sometimes it connects OK & other time NO!!! When it disconnects & I attempt to re-connect the process with the card utility it assumes it is set for WEP, WHICH IT IS NOT!! & is asking for the appropriate password of either exactly 8 or 13 letters. Incidently the passphrase has 12 letters in it, but it's set for wpa-psk not wep! I've rechecked the router settings & thats what they are so it must be with the adapter.
I figure it's got to be a setting somewhere on the adapter but I haven't a clue.Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help will be appreciated.
The problem is that network connections don't always work after Standby/Sleep/Hibernate. Make sure you have the latest correct driver for the adapter. There's not much else you can do except try another adapter.
When I have that issue my workaround is to switch the wireless off (if integrated) or disconnect before Standby or Hibernation.
My motherboard got a port called Mini PCIE. It looks similar to the standard PCIE port but is much smaller (I guess that's why it's called mini ) AND it appears to be tilted 90 degrees to the right if I'm right. So I would have to place the card vertically. Space seems to be limited. Of course I could be wrong on that.
Board type is MSI AM1i
Photo is below. The port in question is just next to the two SATA data ports. (actually on the left, in the second pictures)
I'd like to install a Wifi card there. Please tell me. How and where? Where am I supposed to place the antennas? Do you know any good cards? I didn't buy the card yet, only the motherboard
Thanks a lot
^^ The mini PCIE port is just above (again, next to the white-blue capacitors and left to the sata ports), and lies vertically in the picture with a number tag written to it

Also I wanted to know a good program that lets me see how my video card is performing and if its being bottleknecked?
If you want to check if your video card is being bottlenecked, just open up resource manager and play any game you like.
Check how much strain is being put on the cpu and compare it to the gpu usage.
GPU-Z is my personal favorite gpu monitoring program. Get it from TechPowerUp.
If you have a core 2 duo running under 3.5 ghz it'll most likely be a bottleneck in modern games.
However, with a quad core with a clock rate of at least 2.5 or so then you should be fine.
Also, it really depends on the game.
Older games less cores doesn't really matter as much as the gpu. Newer games can become really demanding on both the cpu and gpu.
Hi out there to Vistax64. I am a recent XP to Vista user. I have a Vostro 200 mini tower (specs below) that has been running XP pro for the last few years - couldn't stand the GUI anymore lol - so I installed Vista HP and am very happy with the new interface and features. After tweaking some, the desktop appears from cold start in 30 seconds or so and almost everthing runs as snappy as it did before with XP. But the task manager is showing an average use in physical memory of 1.17 gigs, CPU usage is higher, and some, not all, internet pages scroll slowly e.g. Yahoo news pages, Hearts of Space etc. where as they were fine before. Everthing else on the internet, including this site, works well - though a few installs like Starry Night Enthusiast and a John Deere farm game are slower.
My question is this: Would installing a seperate video card give me better all-around performance or would another gig of ram do the trick? And what brand/type of video card do you folks recommend?
Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.3ghz
2 Gig of Kingston RAM
Intell G33 Express Chipset (on motherboard)
80 Gig WD SATA Hard Drive
Seasonic 350w PSU
Thanks for the opportunity to have my questions answered and I'm looking forward to cruising the site here!
Windows will allot 50% of your ram by default, for when you need them programs. Remember, rams fastr than hard drive, and why have all that ram and not use it.
For your power supply, a nvidia 430/440 or an ati/amd 6450, maybe get away with a 6550... Seasonics are quality.
The slowdown is probably because Vista is a bit more of a beast than xp, and graphics can be a bit more hefty.
I have a Micron Trans Port GX3 Laptop that I just had to reformat and install win xp again. Installed in this laptop is a Mini PCI Wireless Card bearing the BCM94306MPSG number.
I have been going nuts trying to find the driver for this beast. It will not install without the drivers. I had them but have somehow managed to lose them.
Can anyone help me here???? PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE
Download for XP from here....
Hi, new to the site today. Bit frustrated, my sister got a new laptop, the one Im using to post this, and connected straight away to my home wireless, and can also view surrounding connections, (neighbours) etc.
I cant. Its a problem with my mini-card it says "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device." However, I clicked to get updated drivers and it said I already had the advanced one?
I called technical support for Dell and because my warranty has expired they want £29 to pay for this solution.
If anyone can help I would very much appreciate it.
I am using a Dell Inspiron 1520. Windows Vista, trying to connect to home wireless and nothing out of the ordinary has happened for this to happen.

I'm trying to connect a Sony VAIO PCG-GRT100 laptop computer to my network with a mini-PCI Intel 2100 3A 'b' card.
I used to have a Linksys PCMCIA wireless card - and it worked perfectly, but I didn't like having a big thing sticking out of the side. So - I got a mini-PCI card out of a Dell laptop (that I upgraded from just 'b' to a 2200 'b' and 'g' card), and thought I would put it into the Sony.
I installed the drivers, slotted in the card, connected the AUX and MAIN antennae, booted up - the computer recognised the card just fine - shows up in the control panel, and SYSTEM folder, etc.
BUT - when I search for networks I get nothing - "No wireless networks found". The laptop is sitting 4 feet from the router (a Netgear WGR614 by the way), and my other laptop 'see' about 8 network access points normally (I'm in a block of apartments / flats).
So - it appears the 'hardware switch' is turned off on the adaptor. Windows Control Panel / HW can't turn it on - but since this isn't a Centrino laptop - there's no button or switch to turn it on.
WHat can I do - the mini-PCI card is covered in plastic - is there a manual switch I can throw if I strip it off?
Any suggestions would be welcome!
Did you install the correct driver and are you using the Intel Software to manage it.
Hi I was wondering if someone could give instructions on how to uninstall/reinstall my audio card driver. I'm using a HP Mini netbook (windows 7 starter). I use this Netbook mainly for browsing and watching netflix. I spend a lot of time in a motel . When I'm trying to watch a movie the Audio is faster than the video (The words are already spoken, but the characters haven't said them yet). Netflix support made this suggestion and HP tech support would not help unless I paid them. I downloaded "driver detective" and it said that my Audio was out of date. So , any help would be great thanks.
Welcome to the Seven Forums.
First of all please confirm that you have the latest audio driver on hand. If you don't then please download it from either the Driver Manufacturer's website or the MoBo Manufacturer's website. Had you filled up your complete System Specs, it would have been easy to point out from where to download the audio driver.
That said open the Device Manager (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System) and uninstall the present driver from there by opening the Properties Sheet of your audio driver and then the Driver Tab.
I'm considering buying a used Dell OptiPlex GX790 MT computer, and I'm wondering what the maximum video card length can be without having to remove the hard drive cage.
The hard drive cage isn't the only problem. The power supply is not standard.
So a short GTX750 TI non SC would be the max.
Has anyone found win 7 64 or Vista 64 drivers for this card later version than 184.108.40.206?

i have a Dell Vostro Mini Tower with the following specs:Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz
4GB RAMIntel(R) HD GraphicsI have ran a System Requirements check and it says I have 2048MB of Video RAM. i would like to upgrade this to 4GB if possible. would anyone be able to recommend a card that is compatible with my computer?I understand the wattage of my power supply matters also, would anyone know what this is?Thanks in advance
The 2GB you are referring to is how much system ram is being given to the onboard Intel GPU video to use. You cannot increase that to 4GB. But you can add a discrete PCIe x16 video card. The Vostro 470 has a 300w power supply. So that will limit you as to which video card you can use. The two video cards that we shipped on this model were =
YG17P Nvidia GeForce 640GT 1GB67V2J Nvidia GeForce 620GT 1GB
Or you could remove our power supply and install a higher wattage power supply and then get a better video card.
