Boken Internet Connection - Verizon support gave up! Help!

Q: Boken Internet Connection - Verizon support gave up! Help!

Hi folks!
My internet connection is broken (gasp...I'm on dial-up!) and there seem to be weird things about it. As I mentioned in the subject, I called Verizon support twice...and they gave up. So, I'll try hard to describe issues (I'm not that good at this), and if all else fails, maybe you could suggest a resource that can help. I was going to call Geek Squad until I read the reviews here.

Okay...everything was fine until we had a local blackout for a few hours. I don't know if it's related. Then the internet connection was gone.

I have a Dell desktop running Vista home preium...brand new computer. It's a westfell modem, and right now I don't have it connected to the router.

They had me do the typical turning off the moden, resetting, etc. Checked all the connections. When the had me do the DOS stuff a couple things happened. The address was wrong, and they tried to have me do a config/release. It said it had to be elevated, and they gave up at that point. I asked if I just needed to go into an administrator mode, and she didn't understand.

I realize you'll probably need the config/all stuff. If you do, could you tell me how I copy it from DOS?

Finally, I am fine about calling for help. If you don't suggest Geek Squad, who do you suggest?

Thanks!!!!

Kathryn

hello
I have had verizon dsl for almost a year now and all of a sudden for the past 3 or so months, it has started to disconnect every so often. At first it was just every once in awhile, now it is constantly going off. It is driving me crazy and verizon has been no help. All they did was send me another modem and that didn't help at all. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have windows XP

Did you try the Verizon Online Support Center?

You can open up a chat with tech support. They did a good job of solving a couple problems that I had.

Hello, I'm using a Pantech UML290 4G Anywhere Wireless Modem via Verizon. Currently I'm trying to Enable ICS On the 290 to supply Internet over a home network ( 2 Computers Both Running W7 ) with no success.

I have the home network Running though a Netgear N300

I've tried Bridging connections to no avail, Entering both Connection Data Manually, Clearing out the windows 7 Default Gateway 0,0,0,0., Clearing ARP Cache (WINSOCK / IPv4 / IPV6) and a few other things I had up my sleeve or found on the net. At this moment I have ICS On but when I Enable or Disable ICS it forces my home network to "unidentified network".

The Default Gateway b4 seemed to keep getting reset to 0,0,0,0. Thus why I removed The Default Gateway 0,0,0,0 from the equation. It seemed to work and my Gateway setting was not disappearing after a restart. ( I do have Internet on the host computer but not on the home network but both do work and are accessible) up until I Enable or Disable ICS and it goes back to " unidentified network".

So at the moment I have Internet on the Host Computer and a home Network Setup. I can Restart the Computer and They are both still accessible. ICS is on but not functioning across the home network. The 290 is set to Obtain everything automatically, the Network Connection is manually set :

Subnet: 255,255,255,0

I have a hp psc 1350 v printer, trying to install on this machine; printer was installed on this machine in nov.2003 and worked fine until 2 weeks ago. at that time , printer quit working and in the control panel, printer icon showed up like a hidden file. tried to reinstall printer several times with no success. contacted hp support, spent several hours, spanning 4 days ,installing and uninstalling software, trying to install this printer. changed usb cables and same problem.other usb devises are recognised instantly. Hp support sent me a new printer, tried to install, same problem...no printer. so, tried to install printer on 2 other pcs and no problem, worked great (one machine has the exact same mother board as the problem pc).Hp says its a chip problems, problem started when i did a windows recommended driver update for via chip. CAN YOU HELP?

Here are my specs:

Operating System Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 (build 2600)
System Model = ECS = P4VXASD2+ = 1.0 (motherboard)
Main Circuit Board Board: ECS P4VXASD2+ 1.0
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 07.00T 04/02/01
Processor 2.00 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache
256 Megabytes Installed Memory
Did have 768, took out 512

Thanks in advance, Jim Green

A:HP Tech support gave up on this one

Uninstall the printer, through ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, then go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager and remove any left over HP/printer entries - look under HP, USB, all the categories. If HP gave you a seperate uninstaller to use then run that, they usually have one and if you look through your CD you might be able to find it hidden somewhere. Then unplug the printer and all other USB devices - except USB a mouse and Keyboard if yours happen to be USB.

Now still in Device Manager remove all USB hubs and then all USB Controllers.

Now go here: http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=403 and download and install the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers and reboot as request. Then reboot again after the USB controllers are reinstalled.

Now download the latest printer drivers from HP's website for your model if you haven't done so yet and start the installation. Do not plug in the printer until prompt to do so or until the installation is totally complete. When plugging in the printer use a USB connector that is not near the one you used before - they are usually in pairs of two.

If that Fails you can do a System Restore from Programs - Accessories - System to a date before the problems started and hope it works and doesn't recur.

XP runs better with more RAM - if there's nothing wrong with it then add it back in.

Hello all,
I'm hoping someone can help me. This is my first post. I have been fighting my internet speeds for several weeks now, and Verizon wireless has not been any help. I have a HP Pavillion running XP Media Center. I use a wireless usb modem like you would on a laptop, only I use it on a desktop, so it never moves. I have great cellular signal with it, but my speeds stink up the place. I test at speedtest.net. I have run spybot S&D to try to clean up any spyware (didn't find much), I have run Windows Definder. I have done all the normal disk clean up, scan disk, ect. Here is my HijackThis file:

I have a Verizon Mobile Broadband USB760 Card which is connected to a Windows 7 Laptop. The mobile broadband device is shared with the local area connection on Internet Connection Sharing tab under properties of the mobile broadband device. The Ethernet cable is going to the WAN port of a Netgear WNR2000 wireless router. I have set the basic setting screen of the router webpage to the same ip addresses, dns servers, subnet masks, and gateway of the laptop. The ip address of the local area connection of the laptop is 169.254.25.143 and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0. These settings are automatically acquired from the TCP/IP version 4 protocol. The WAN IP address for the router is 169.254.25.144 and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0. The DNS server and the gateway setting of the router are both set to 169.254.25.143.

The problem that I am having is that a week ago it worked perfectly but now it does not work at all. I have not changed any settings on the router or the laptop. I have also checked to make sure the device was still shared with the local area connection. What I have noticed is that only www.google.com will load. Attempting to load another website will just say waiting for www.?.com. The ? is any websites that I attempt to load like live.com, xbox.com, yahoo.com, or facebook.com. Also, any webpage will load on the laptop which the mobile broadband device is connected to. So, I do not know if it is the Internet Connection Sharing service or the settings of the router.

I got a pop up that was loud and wouldn't let me close it saying, "your computer has been infected call Microsoft" and I did because I turned it off and it was still yelling st me when I turned it back on. I gave the tech remote access and he said I had a tiny something trojan virus. Well I didn't fall for paying, got off the phone, held power button down and turned computer off. Am able to use it fine now with no more warning but am I safe after giving the remote access? I was on the phone for about 30 mins while he was going around to different areas in my computer telling me what all of the "problems" were.

Well, I recently introduced a bad disc to my PC and I am trying to get rid of its leavings. Verizon DSL comes with a CD that pursuades you to install software that will help your computer.

In trying to remove all of this, when I get to the help and support uninstaller, it just hangs or freezes. I can manually get rid of all the software, but the prgram stays in my add/remove programs list. I think I need to use regedit to do this, but im not familiar enough with it to find the key I need to delete.

/rant
Ive contacted verizon, they dont have a way to uninstall it. They send me to Microsoft to fix Verizons buggy software.. Microsoft wants money.

Verizon also doesnt have an updated version for me to download to fix the uninstaller, nor do they have an old version for me to manually download.

Also, the tech support guys say my line for DSL tests out to around 7Mb/sec but verizon wont even give me a 3Mb/sec upgrade speed. Any ideas?

/rant

Thanks for all your help.

Hello

I have a brand new Acer V5 123 which came with windows 8

the internet connection here is slow and cuts out once every hour, A manual reconnect is required to get back online

I have managed, somehow to download the 1.4 GB of required updates and am now trying to install the 3.6GB needed to upgrade to 8.1

this is impossible using the official windows apps store based installer which seems to me in this context to be the worst piece of software I have ever come across it has no details on progress apart from a tiny little grey/green line, no BPS, are displayed and when the connection drops the screen still shows it "downloading" complete with tick

this morning for example when I went to reconnect the download which was who knows, 7% complete (no percentage shown either) it just disappeared When I reloaded the app it started from the beginning..... again agghhhh

I have been using free download manager to get big files, it is brilliant and picks up wherever this flaky internet left it.... it would take some time but would eventually download the upgrade

is it possible to get the web page address and download the windows 8.1 from 8 upgrade this way

I live in hope and thanks in advance for any suggestions

Elizabeth

Welcome to Eight Forums.

Download the Windows 8.1 ISO image file.
Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help

In Windows 8, mount the Windows 8.1 ISO image file by right-clicking the ISO image file and choosing Mount. If you don?t see Mount command from the context menu, go to Open with -> Windows Explorer instead.

Run the setup (setup.exe) file (see screenshot below).

All, I'd really like to be able to purchase a wireless cellular card for my X220T that is capable of connecting with Verizon 4G LTE at 4G LTE speeds.   This is particular of interest since Verizon is strongly looking into Family Data Share Plans where testing is to begin either 2nd Quarter or 3rd Quarter this year. http://www.electronista.com/articles/12/02/28/verizon.to.bring.out.shared.data.plans.in.summer/ I contacted Sierra Wireless  about their AirPrime cards and they say that Lenovo has to flash the cards with some stuff before they can actually work on the Lenovo laptops.   So, I'd really like to be able to have one of the 4G AirPrime cards ready when Family Data Plans are made available.  I can turn my phone into a wireless hotspot.  However, that drains the battery really really fast (about 1% a minute).  The integrated solution is therefore the more ideal solution even when considering a card vs a usb stick.  I'm guessing the card would draw less power.  Plus you don't have to worry about carrying around a usb stick you may lose. This card should be tested to work with both Windows 7 and Windows 8.  And there should be a way to toggle power to the card on/off just like with bluetooth and wifi.  This list of AirPrime cards Sierra Wireless makes are here: http://www.sierrawireless.com/productsandservices/AirPrime/Wireless_Modules/High-speed.aspx I think the one that is neede... Recently I have set up 2 PCs trying to connect to internet sharing a single broadband, using Win98SE's ICS.

After setting up host PC and client PC, I could not get the client PC to go to the internet.

I suspect it is the DSL Modem/Bridge which does not support NAT, hence does not allow internet connection sharing. I checked my DSL modem, it is a Prolink Hurricane 9000/B, the manual says it is in Bridge mode, no router mode.

The funny thing is I am able to connect to Internet using this DSL modem, but my client PC can't.

Pls help. In dire straits. Any other solution? Such as using a 5 port switch?

Rgds
Simon

A:DSL Modem/Bridge does not support Internet Connection Sharing?

If you are using Windows ICS then your modem doesn't have to support anything. It is the computer you are running ICS on that does the routing.

What exactly did you do trying to get the connection sharing going?

You will save yourself from a lot of headaches by getting a router. Either a small box from a store or any old junk PC with some firewall on it.

My Verizon wireless ( cellular air-card 4G hotspot ) modem / router ( jet pack 890l ) constantly times out or only partially loads pages while browsing the internet. Or I get an error that the "server not found" This had happened ever since I got a new PC with Windows 7. I have reset the modem, reseated the SIM card, checked for new soft ware and firmware (none at this time). I have updated my network adapter driver. Checked for a hidden Microsoft mini adapter, none there. Checked Microsoft's support forums for compatibility issues. Nothing has helped. What else can I do?

Everything has been working fine for several weeks up until yesterday afternoon. I'm on WinXP SP3, using a wireless network card to connect to her internet and she lives next door. Yesterday afternoon it disconnected throughout the night and the morning, it wouldn't connect at all. I moved my PC closer towards her house, which helped out a little. It was disconnecting every few minutes. I tried ipconfig /release /renew and it's working better, but disconnecting less often then not (once every 3-5 minutes). The web browser works fine, but whenever I play my online games it completely disconnects.

okay, i have a room upstairs in the house. The house is wired for verizon fios cable tv and fios internet. In my room I already have a tv and get fios digital cable, just fine. I am getting a desktop soon. My question is , ""does the internet and the cable tv service come into my room through the same coax or will i need a new line run into my room to get a wired hookup of my own"". I dont want to go wireless, because I am having a lot of probs with my laptop now. Im trying to avoid running an ethernet from the downstairs router. Help!!!!!!!! please and thanyou.

A:verizon fios connection

You will need to run a wire from the router, the cable only brings the TV. It's true that there is encapsulated IP data on the wire as well, but it's strictly for the router.

I have Verizon DSL 1.5 MPBS Down and 400 Kbps up(something like that I dont remember exact speeds) with an Actiontec GT704WG wireless gateway.
While I almost always connect with these speeds, I lose connection all of the time, mainly while I'm playing Xbox Live.
Actually, almost always when im playing Xbox Live. Ill connect to a game, then 2 minutes into the game, the router is restarting. Ill wait for it to reboot, then it repeats. It doesnt lose connection nearly as much when I'm just browsing the web.

I have always been please with Verizon's service and reliability until the past couple of months. I have tried everything I know to do, rebooting the gateway, returning gateway to default settings, etc...

what is wrong with my connection?

My Verizon GT704-WG modem/router loses its connection to DSL at least once a week. A power cycle fixes it, but when it drops in the middle of a huge HD upload or a CoD match it is extremely aggrivating.

My network is setup like this. GT704-WG with non-Verizon firmware in Bridge mode to a Belkin F5D7230-4 v1444 running DD-WRT v24-sp2 (09/30/09) micro - build 13000M VINT Eko Firmware. Wirelessly connected to a Mac, a PC, an iPhone and a Kubuntu Server.

When the DSL goes down the DSL light on the router goes out and slowly flashes. Accessing the web portal for the modem, the status says disconnected and clicking Connect does nothing. A 15 second power cycle fixes the problem and the internet is back.
Any help would be great.

First time poster here, so thanks in advance for the help!

Let me first start out by saying that I am using Verizon's DSL "Power" package and have had it since late May. The phone line I use for internet access is used exclusively for internet access, meaning there are no other telephones connected to any lines that utilize that telephone number. What I am about to describe is my first problem in this time period.

Currently, I am on my work computer, as I am without internet access at home.

Now, my problem...

Last night I tried signing on to AOL IM and was unable to connect. It brought up red text at the top saying something to the effect of "unable to establish a connection" and gave me options to change my settings.

So, then, I tried pulling up a bookmarked web page using Mozilla Firefox. Automatically, my window resized itself and a Verizon page (https://activate.verizon.net/launch/welcome) loaded. It gave me options to "activate my account", "configure an additional PC or reinstall software", or "reconnect to the internet because i reset or replaced my modem".

Keep in mind that, just an hour and a half prior to this, I successfully used my wireless connection, and about an hour before that I successfully used the DSL on my desktop computer. I didn't touch the modem, didn't restart the computer, didn't uninstall any software, etc. And, all of the appropriate green lights were lit up on my gateway m... Read more

The fact that it went to activation seems to indicate that Verizon thinks you have a new modem. I'd call them and ask what is going on.

Hello,

I hope I am within the correct group. The church I belong to and am responsible for the computers and network is having a problem I am unable to diag. We have DSL with Verizon it has worked fine up until about 2 months ago. The problem is this.....When we either recieve a telephone call or place a telephone call we lost connectivity when the phone is usually hung up. Today I called in and was told that the internet went down when I was on the phone. I have already contacted Verizon who informed me that the line is good. Their answer was to send a new wireless dsl modem. I connected this modem and the same problem occurs.
Let me take a moment to explain our network.

I have 2 primary lines that come into the church. One is our main phone number the other is our DSL number.
XXXX = Main number
xxx1 = DSL, Phone, Fax machine
We also have a Partner phone system integrated into this mix.
I have a wirless router (netgear) which I turned off the dhcp and activated it as a wap.
The dsl modem that verizon sent us I also deactivated the wireless portion of that router to make it only wired.
The dsl modem is connected to a 24 port switch.
The phones are connected through the partner system and the dsl line does have a filter. I know the filter is good I just replaced it last week.

I am not sure if the dsl is able to work with the 3 functions dsl, phone & fax.

Speaking to verizon is absolutley useless and I don't have the magic number for the knowledgable helpdesk I h... Read more

Hello,

I have been having a recurring problem with my Verizon DSL. Every night for the last 3 or so weeks I cannot connect to websites. What's odd is the fact that the Westell website and all tests with tech support show that I have a full strong signal 864/160.
Tne service works great during the day, but at about 8pm I simply cannot load up even simplest pages. it lasts until 8am or so.

I had opened multiple tickets, replaced the modem, had a tech at the house put in a new home run line from the DSL jack to the splitter in the garage, had the CO put me on a different server.

The problem repeats itself every night.
Any thoughts?
I am 100% certain at this point that the problem lies outside the house, within the CO maybe. I'm quite a long distance from the CO. However, I never had these issue before. Could they have all of a sudden started some kind of a nightly process that is causing this.

P.S. Weather is not a issue.

thanks in advance!

A:A recurring Verizon DSL connection problem

On-site work force (oswf) performing local maintenance ordinarily do not report outages to tech support when working with small portions of the network.

Having a strong signal does not confirm that your DSL was addressed.

Provisioning means routing data to your DSL is correct for both uplink & downlink sides.

So at the times when you experience the problem, check out the DSL diagnostic results (browser access to DSL modem). IF results are all OK, then have tech support use remote access to your computer. This should detect provisioning problems.

MY office just signed up for Verizon ADSL service and I'm having a strange problem with DNS.

Some machines on the LAN can get out to the internet just fine. Other machines can not get out to see web pages. The reason I believe it's a DNS problem is I can ping all sites using the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx notation but I can not ping any sites when I use www.yahoo.com. I know it's not the machines because when I set up the machines to access the old dsl connection it connects just fine. We are using a linksys cable/dsl router to connect to the outside world for the new connection. I've tried clearing out the DNS cache with no success.

A:Sharing a Verizon ADSL Connection

Is each workstation configurated with Obtain an IP Adress automatically and Enabed DNS? Delete any DNS Server Search Order entries. The Linksys cable/dsl router act as a DHCP host and it should provide the DNS as well.

i have XPC computer in my 18 wheeler and use Verizon broadband PCMCIA card to access internet. i am trying to share connection using Linksys WAP. I have run network wizard for 'my computer directly accesses the internet and other computers connect through it'. I can access the network but not access the internet. I don't see the Vz software even trying to uplink when I try accessing internet from wifi connected device. Am I beating a dead horse? Does Verizon prevent sharing somehow?

Another option for me might be accessing wifi connection on the road and sharing the resulting connection (via LAN eternet cable). Can that be done? My main goal is to update my Tivo box over the internet.

A:can I share my verizon broadband (aircard) connection? so far have not been able to

Not quite sure if I understand you correctly, but if you install a router, you should have no problems with sharing.

I wasted an hour with some Verizon customer service rep because my old Toshiba Satelite laptop with XP Home would not connect with my new MiFi4510L hotspot. It would not even ask for the password.

Fortunately, I kept messing around and resolved it by going to 192.168.1.1 from my phone and going thru the setup wizard to change from the WPA2 Personal/PSK default to WPA Personal/PSK. Then I went to the Advanced Settings of the wireless connections of my computer and changed the properties of the MiFi device so that the Network Authentication is WPA-PSK, the Data Encryption is TKIP, and the Network Key is my password. When I tried to connect again, it worked.

However, I don't know if I picked the best option. My choices for Network Authentication are Open, Shared, WPA and WPA-PSK. Data Encryption for the WPA's can be TKIP or AES.

Should I change what I selected?

A:Verizon hotspot (MiFi4510L) connection issues

Best is WPA2-PSK AES. But a lot of older devices will not support that, so WPA-PSK TKIP is a good practical choice. It is also secure, as it has not yet been broken unless the passphrase is guessable or a dictionary word.

hey everyone,
so i just upgraded from dial-up to verizon dsl a couple days ago. i received the westell 6100 modem (it might be a router too?) and it's been working fine. today i bought a zyxel p-330w router in hopes of sharing my dsl connection but so far it has not been working . i'm pretty sure all the cables are hooked up correctly... phone line to westell, westell to zyxel, zyxel out to desktop. i have windows ME for the desktop. i've been looking for answers and there are a few ideas:
-the westell might also possibly be a router, so the westell and zyxel are conflicting each other. one interesting thing i've noticed is that the zyxel tells me to go to 192.168.1.1 to configure it, but i think westell uses something in the 192.168.1.* range to access the internet (i had to put the latter ip range in my "trusted zone" of my firewall for the internet to work, even without the zyxel)
-i should have the "automatically detect setting" in LAN settings in internet options checked for the router to work, but i have not done this yet becuase the internet has been working without it being checked and i dont want to screw anything up so that i get 0 internet.
-for the tcp/ip properties i do have it to "obtain an IP address automatically"

any help is appreciated.

Have a Toshiba Satellite P305 laptop running Vista. Connection to the Internet is through my Verizon air card (USB modem). I've had this for a number of years.

A month or two ago, I started noticing that my mouse was acting poorly and the speakers sounded all distroted, would crackle, stutter & skip - with music or websites, everywhere. So I just spent $50 bucks on a pair of external speakers, thinking it must be the speakers. But it still happened even through the new speakers.

After much more testing last night, I finally saw that as soon as I would bring up the Verizon Access Manager program in order to connect to the Internet, that the mouse would slow way down and track very poorly and that the music I was listening to, would suddenly become all distorted, stutter and skip.

The minute I completely log off the Verizon connection, all goes back to normal and is fine.

Have called Verizon, but they don't seem to have a clue. They had me Uninstall the Verizon Access program and resinstall it, but that has not fixed it.

Could someone please help me to figure out what to do next in order to solve this? It seems to be a software conflict or?? What should I check next in order to fix this?
THANKS!

I'm just having such a difficult time learning about networking so wanted to ask.

I've bought Pepwave AP 200 to connect to citi-wifi service, but it was too weak for my needs. So, I ended up re-ordering Verizon DSL. I kept my modem, which is Westell 6100 (E90-610015-06, Rev. E) .

I spoke to techsupport at Verizon, and was told that I should buy a router if I want to use laptop wireless. Is there any way I can make these two work so I don't have to have ethernet cable connected all the time?? The Pepwave AP200 has only one LAN port, so the techsupport said it looks impossible. From what I know, it is not a "classic router," but I am not really sure. These links shows what the configuration screen looks like:

http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/myin...ess/pepwave_surf/pepwave_surf_setup_upper.jpg

http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/myin...ess/pepwave_surf/pepwave_surf_setup_lower.jpg

Is it possible?

A:Solved: Wiress connection with Verizon DSL (Westell 6100) and Pepwave signal booster?

I have a feeling that this unit is somewhat specialized. It appears that it's WAN port is the wireless, and there doesn't seem to be a way to change that.

I'd bite the bullet and pick up a standard wireless router, they're actually pretty cheap if you shop around.

Do not install the unwanted software, or make sure it is not running. If this is Windows XP also make sure WZC is not running. Then use the Netgear utility.

I was thinking about switching seeing thats its wireless and just uses a usb stick, no wires. Right now i am using hard wired internet at 10meg. I would like to keep the same speed would i be better off just going with a wireless router or going the Verizon route?

A:Anybody use Verizon Home Internet?

Yea, I've a friend with Verizon and it's ok, but consider this:

any wired connection to a modem and/or router is better than WiFi
any WiFi will be less secure and bandwidth will suffer
Use a PC-WiFi connection to YOUR router only when there is no other choice.

The FiOS connection is great,
the DSL choice is S L O W in comparison
and a WiFi only connection (eg satellite) is even worse.

Hello. My topic is horrible but its hard to describe this problem in a tiny sentence, so here we go!

I'm not sure exactly what happened, but about a week when my roomate and I tried to use our internet, it asked us to go ahead and re-activate our internet. We were confused, I tried messing with it and activating it once again but no go(it's been active for over 3 months). So we call Verizon and get it all taken care of, but since we've called I've had nothing but problems. My roommate hasn't mentioned anything but shes wired, and I'm wireless.

So let me explain the problem. Basically the connection generally doesn't disconnect, it'll stay with a great signal. What will happen though, is the internet will pause. I use mozilla, in the bottom left hand corner it will just say "Looking up www.xxxxx.com" I just tried it right now in fact, it will sit for a few seconds and end sup with "Problem loading page". A lot of the times it'll sit there for seconds or even a minute. But I could try it 5 seconds later and it might work, it seems so off and on. BUT, windows doesn't really tell me that it disconnects from the wireless connection. I'm just so confused/frustrated.

I'm good with computers, okay with wireless and network connections. As of now, I've made sure my IP is obtain automatically. I changed the channel in which the connection is on, as we have a few int he area. There are 3 on channel 6... Read more

Hi we've had a Verizon T1 Internet Circuit installed in our US office and although I've asked the Verizon rep to confirm what kind of presentation it will be at the demarc I get the feeling he doesn't know what he's talking about. He is saying that it will be a RJ45/RJ48 Ethernet presentation from their line box on the wall. Is this normal?

I was expecting some kind of serial link.

A:Verizon T1 Internet Circuit - What to expect?

Yes. That's normal. The T1 cards Cisco, Juniper, Brocade, etc, use a RJ48 (which is really the same plug as RJ45 but with different voltage and pinouts.) I have three Cisco routers in my lab which have T1 cards in them all interconnected with a custom crossover cable I made.

If you don't have a WAN interface on your router/firewall which can accept the RJ48 handoff, you will need to request a modem from them which will convert the T1 handoff into a standard Fast Ethernet connection.

Hi,
Dell Dimension 4400
Windows XP Home
768MB RAM

Verizon DSL

Problem:
I just installed Verizon DSL a month ago and this has occurred about 5 or 6 times....latest was this afternoon.
(I leave my computer running all the time). An hour ago I went to the computer, and wanted to update, (as an example) my Ad-aware....I open Ad-aware, click on "Check for Updates Now" and it freezes, clicking "X" does nothing, even using Task Manager does not close it. Now the same happens with any other Program (Spybot, SpywareGuard, SpywareBlaster, etc)...they simply cannot connect to their servers. This is basically the problem.

Also, I was not able to get IE, Firefox or the MSN Browsers to connect during this time....so, generally speaking, I could not connect to the Internet or Program Servers.

I just got off the phone with Verizon and they say everything looks ok from their end, so they could not come up with a solution except to say that maybe I have "too many Programs running" (does that make sense?), I never had this problem with dialup (that's why I mentioned Verizon in the thread title).

Temporary Fix:
When this happens, I cannot Restart by going to Start>Turn Off Computer>Restart. I get as far as "Restart" then nothing happens. However, if I do a power down using the POWER OFF button on the tower and totally shut off the computer, everything returns to normal upon restarting and the Programs are able to connect.

I cannot uninstall it because I get the message that the VISS needs to shutdown first. I cannot shutdown VISS for whatever reason, (don't even have a shutdown button) and after attempting to exit VISS I get a message saying I must restart my computer to install VISS. My computer most of the time then freezes up. How do I shutdown VISS and uninstall it? I've been searching the internet an Verizon website for several hours now and have had no luck.

Good afternoon all.

I'm in a little quandry right now. I have an issue with my new custom-built machine (see spec below), where it freezes right after logon only on cold boots. On warm boots it works fine. Long story short, I ran cCleaner and Verizon's Internet Security Suite stopped working. So, I uninstalled it and ran cCleaner twice again. I cold-booted the machine and .... no problem.

I'm wondering if I should use AVG rather than the Verizon product. I had gone with Verizon originally because the prior version was lean, mean and never had any problems. The current version 6.03 ... has become more Norton/McAffee-like, meaning: slow, and probably causing all manner of problems. Note that I do have the Verizon product on an AMD-based laptop and it functions fine.

Right now, I'm using nothing, but I don't want to do that for two long. Thanks much.

Here is the hardware Spec:

XFX 790i mobo
4 GB OCZ DDR3 (tested with MS's RAM diagnostics and no errors).
Intel Core2 Duo E8400 3.0 Ghz Processor
CoolIT Eliminator CPU cooler
Two Palit 1-GB NVIDIA 9600 video cards with SLI enabled
Two Seagage 750 GB SATA Drives
One LiteOn DVD Burner (IDE)
One Artec CD Burner (IDE)
ONe Ultra Card Reader with USB Hub and Firewire
CH Pro Flight Sim Yoke and Rudder Pedals

Software:

XP Pro SP 2 with all latest hot fixes
MSIE 7.0
FireFox (latest Version)
MS Office Enterprise 2007 latest Service Packs and fixes

A:Avg Vs. Verizon Internet Security Suite (radialpoint)

Update to this. I nosed around the site and saw some excellent freeware applications. For now, I'm running AVG free, Comodo, Spybot Search and Destroy and Hitware Lite for my antivirus, firewall, anti-spyware, and anti-pop-up solution. I'm taking a bit of a performance hit -- mostly from Spybot -- but my cold boot this morning did not immediately lockup. It did lock after 10 minutes though. AVG found and isolated a virus on my external disk, so for now I'm running a scan against my machine to see anything else is found.

What's interesting is that this free software found a virus. Meanwhile software that I've been paying for on a subscription and that is updated every three hours could not. And the computer was locking on cold boots at login every time the paid program initiated.

I am trying to remove my Verizon Internet Security Suite. I go to control panel, add/remove programs, click on VISS/remove and I always get a pop up window that says "VISS has experienced a problem and needs to shut down. We are sorry..." I am unable to do anything else. No matter what I do I always get the same pop up window and that's as far as I get. Any suggestions on how to remove this program would be greatly appreciated!

Hello all,
I'm hoping someone can help me.

Hi guys,

I'm having problems connecting to the internet, due to a bogus verizon account page. The computer is connected to the internet via wireless adapter. I can communicate with the router, but the "noaccess.verizon.net" seems to be blocking any internet connection. There is another computer in the house plugged directly into the router, which is connecting to the internet just fine.

The fake page insists that there is a problem with the account (there isn't) and asks for log-in info (I didnt enter anything)

I have found other posts regarding this problem, but no definitive answers...

thanks for any help!

A:my computer won't uninstall verizon internet security suite

Dear swami22,
You seem to have recognized three probs.
1) Uninstalling the security suite. Download Revo uninstaller(it's free) and use it judiciously.
2)unable to open some sites. Kindly run a scan for spyware, Malware and Viruses. Let us know what A-V you have.
3)Unable to download. Check whether you are the administrator. A simple trick: If you need to quickly tell if the person currently logged onto a PC is a local administrator of the windows server, right click on the START button. If you see "Open All Users" rather than just "Open," the account is in the local Administrators group.
Best wishes.

I have verizon Fios internet service. Here's a screen shot of my cellphone, using wifi and a screenshot of my computer using ethernet cable and actiontec powerline network adapters.
How can I change the ethernet speed to match the wifi speed?

A:verizon Fios: wifi and ethernet, 2 different internet speeds

FIOS is the best Internet service available in the US and you are lucky to have it. The discrepancy between wired & wireless throughput is legendary and there are lots of comments about it. In general the cause is obscure in most cases - wireless throughput is subject to all sorts of issues that are not present with a wired connection. In general you should not expect wireless speeds to match wired speeds - there are just too many variables in play with wireless. For instance, a fish tank can suck up wireless signals like a sponge, as can a steel beam or a large flatscreen TV.

My operating system is Microsoft Windows XP Home.

Getting my internet service installed by Verizon has been a hassle. I thought I was in the process of activating my account yesterday, but something went wrong. I apparently cleared everything up with Verizon, but as a result of the partial activation process I went through, I downloaded Verizon Internet Security Suite (VISS). But halfway through downloading it, there was an error, and so I don't think it was completely downloaded.

Now that I must go through the whole activation process again next week, I have been trying to remove everything I downloaded. But when I tried using "Add or Remove Programs" to remove Verizon Internet Security Suite (hereafter VISS), I was informed that I had to reboot first. Well, I rebooted my computer, and tried again. But again I was told I had to reboot first. So I tried deleting the entire Verizon folder on my hard drive, but it wouldn't let me, saying: "Cannot delete AVCntxtR.dll: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently is use."

Furthermore, I cannot open "My Computer" on my desktop, nor can I click on "My Network Places" in the Start menu. When I do, I receive this message: "Cannot start this program, because the required component 'C:\Program Files\Verizon\Verizon Internet Security Suite\Resources\zk_en_US\CLB_Rsrc.dll' is missing. We have three 64 bit Window 7 machines on an Ethernet wireless/wired router (ASUS WL-520GC). Worked great? one of the three computers hosts a USB printer and shares with no problems (via a HomeGroup).

We had a broadband power line modem on the same Ethernet network connection and all three computers had sharing of the WAN internet? then we lost our internet connection capability when our supplier went bust!

We are now using a Verizon Wireless USB 720 broadband modem on the same computer that hosts the printer. That computer has internet connection and works fine. We cannot get the remaining two computers to see the internet.

Bridging the Verizon USB ?Home? network and the Ethernet ?Public? network doesn?t seem to work because we can?t set the local area network to ?Home.?

Any suggestions?

A:Internet sharing a Verizon Wireless USB modem and an Ethernet network

If I was going to use a Verizon USB modem on a network, I would use a router that you plug the modem into. Check out http://www.cradlepoint.com/ or do a Google search. I remember seeing routers for USB modems (cell service) for as low as $35, but most users recommend Cradlepoint routers.

If you are still on the Verizon 30 trial, you should check out http://www.millenicom.com/, Millenicom has no contract and much higher usage caps, even unlimited using Verizon and Sprint service.

Hi, I'm writing on the behalf of my brother, who's (desktop) PC is in the room as I write this on my laptop. We usually share our internet connection (I am still using it), but he is no longer able to connect.

In the past, he has gotten a "A network cable has been unplugged" message several times in seemingly random intervals, restarting his PC would usually fix this.

However yesterday he got a message: "This connection has limited or no connectivity" and his game (AlienSwarm at the time (through steam)) stalled out and he decided to restart the PC yet again, only this time after the reboot, he not only wasn't reconnected to the internet, he also couldn't find the Local Area Connection icon(s) in his Network Connections window, the only thing there is a "1394 Connection" which we have no clue about.

I'm gonna add my skype here if any helpful people need more info on this :P Feel free to add jaan.stern

Also I put this in the XP forum, because I wouldn't know which Network support subforum to use!
Thanks!

I have had this HP stream for quite some time, but it has never been the main laptop that I used, or any of my family, for that matter. Now that I am using it more often, it has come to my attention that it is always limited. There are entire days that go by without connecting to the internet, and when it did, at one point, I downloaded HP assistant, and that did not help with updates. Even when I run internet diagnostics, it says that there is no problem, although clearly, there is. There are breif moments where I can connect to the interent, and seek help, which does not help. Just got off the phone with Verizon. They had me push the reset button and I was able to connect to the internet again. I mentioned how slow it takes for pages to load. She said if I have two firewalls running that can happen, then eventually it blocks your internet connection. I have the free Avira and am only using the Windows Firewall. She said the Verizon router has a firewall but it's a low security. So I went on the internet was able to get on some sites, but then others wouldn't connect again, said there is no internet connection. All the lights on the router are on. So far it's still working, but this is what happened before when I lost my connection completely.

I have Windows XP, tried it both on IE 8 and Firefox. The router is an Actiontec MI42WR. The problem was with both my desktop and laptop wired connections.

My Dell AIO 940 printer lost the connection to the computer, and now I get a popup "Communication not available." There is no error number. I had this problem once before, and the problem is that when you right click the Printer-Properties, there is a block to check under the Ports tab that says "enable bidirectional support." The check mark will not stay when you hit the "apply" button at the bottom, so the bidirectional support is not enabled, and the printer will not communicate. I remember a fix I came across one time that made some changes in the registry to make the bidirectional support permanent. I thought I had saved the instructions, but cannot find them. Does this sound familiar to anyone, and can anyone help? Calls to Dell are fruitless- they only say the printer is fine, and it is a software problem. That is correct, but, if I cannot use my printer, I will probably buy one from someone else next time!! Thanks!!

Here are my ADSL Land Line State

SNR Margin US/DS = 23.5 / 44.9
Line Attenuation US/DS = 5.0 / 11.0
Power US/DS = 5.3 / 16.3

*these are constant

a quick help is appriciated as i have to tell them before the end of day. as my billing month starts tomorrow.

The key issue with DSL/ADSL speeds is the length of the line from the Telco CO. The longer the copper run, the lower speed it'll support. What does the ISP tell you about the upgrade?

OK. I'm trying to switch from wireless to a faster(?) ethernet cable based internet access.
I use a Dell Optiplex 755, 32 bit OS, Windows 7. I'm the utilizing Comcast high speed internet supplier, a LinkSys E4200 wireless router, a LinkSys WUMC710 (wireless-ac universal media connector; with promises faster connections/speeds) with ethernet cable OUT to the ONLY ethernet port/card supplied [Network Connector (RJ-45)] on the rear of the small form factor tower. when I run the PC with USB wireless (Linksys AE2500) it works fine, but, I hope for an improvement with the LinkSys WUMC710 inserted in the chain.
the Network Adapter (found in Device Manager) is the Intel(R) 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection. This DOES NOT work with the ethernet cable connection (error 651, WAN Miniport problem). even when I uninstall this driver, it reinstalls upon Windows 7 restart, which is contrary to some of the suggested fix posts I've found in on-line forums dealing with these types of issues.

I'm thinking it may be a missing driver for the ethernet port/Network Connector (RJ-45), but, I am neither a hardware, nor IT tech. therefor I have no idea what driver I would SPECIFCICALLY require ofr this port(?), nor can I discern the particular ethernet card that came factory installed on this machine. I have consulted the Dell site and, lo & behold, they don't endorse using Windows 7 on the Optiplex 755, so the only driver updates/downloads are listed for endorsed OS's XP & Vista. so n... Well I've fiddled around and searched to no avail ...

I have some form of conflict between my main wireless network and a LAN I use for file
transfer and streaming.

The attached PDF file illustrates the setup. Basically, the wireless network is fine by
itself. Music streams from the Asus EeePC to the various Squeezeboxes and internet
connectivity is enabled on all PCs and the iPad.

The LAN works well by itself, allowing me to use FreeFileSync to quickly and relaible
transfer / backup music between the Acer dekstop and Asus netbook server PCs, and to
stream music from the Asus EeePC (which is the music server running Logitech Media
Server) to the Squeezebox 2.

However, the two networks can't co-exist without the Acer and/or Asus losing internet
connectivity when their respective LAN connections are made to the Buffalo router they
share with the Squeezebox 2.

The notification area shows:-

Currently connected to:

BuffaloLocalNet
No internet access

SqueezeNet
Internet access

Wireless Network Connection:

SqueezeNet Connected

DD-WRT

I have attached the ipconfig /all output in the out.txt file and diagram of the network in Network.pdf.

I suspect this is a simple clash of parameters somewhere, or incompatible IP addresses but I'm not good enough to resolve it.

Thanks.

I run Windows 98, otherwise I'd have installed WMP 9 by now. I'm not getting any sound from WMP 7.1, and it won't play any CDs through it. I've uninstalled it because I'm disgusted with it and with the lack of help or knowledge/request for $$ from Microsoft's employees over the phone. They only refer you to vague article numbers on their site.

Real Player works just fine, in fact much better now that I installed cable modem. I just always liked WMP better.

Last night my registries got all messed up because I tried to watch a video through Quick Time (the worst!!), and I was in deep doo-doo for a few hours until I reinstalled Windows just to get my ethernet card recognized again...Quick Time totally & completely threw back all of my settings to old settings. But that's a different story. However, if anyone's had THAT particular problem, I'd love to hear about it, so I don't feel like the Lone Ranger over here.

Anyway...WMP 7.1. What's up with that? It acts as if I don't have a sound card or something by the error messages it gives. Nothing's muted, everything seems to be on the up-and-up, and, as I said, Real Player is working 100%.

I have the old-fashioned Windows Media Player in there now. Any advice or comments would certainly be helpful, and please -- layperson over here!

Thanks to all.

P.S. Much snow over here!

This PC is about 2 Years old, I can do media, browsing, photoshop, gaming (some high-end game like Crysis can run on lowest setting without lag). I use x32 for the past 2 year, from XP then 7 till now. A week ago I tried Win 7 x64, I just wanna test my ram, since its 4gb, I thought x64 will use all the 4gb I have rather than 3.25gb on x32, but nah, it don't work at all, still the same 3.25gb on x64, maybe my mobo dint support. Well doesn't matter....

Problems

After that I switch back to x32 (Clean Install). Then I just do as usual, driver, windows update, install my usual application, games, etc....then when I run some games...this happens...

Are you sure that is your motherboard? Google search doesn't give any real results... Please tell me the proper name of your motherboard so that I may help you fix your issue. Also, remove Tuneup Utilities, it really slows down your computer, trust me. Running CCleaner once a week is sufficient, along with defragging.

I am seeking advice here to solve a problem with internet connection on my laptop.
The laptop (Thinkpad X61 running 32 bit Vista) seems to be ok to connect to my router, which is connected to a cable modem. Internet is also connected on the base level (more details below). However Internet Explorer (or firefox, opera) cannot find any web page, and Mozilla Thunderbird email program cannot connect to email server.
I am decently ok with computers, so I have run some checks myself. This is not a problem of router or cable modem, as my other computers can access internet through the same router and modem. Also, the laptop gets an IP address from the router and can connect to shared resources on other computers within the same network.
The laptop also finds outside addresses and get a response when I run ping command, e.g. ping www.google.com or ping www.yahoo.com, suggesting that the connection to DNS server is fine at the base level.
I was suspecting that windows firewall, my Symantec antivirus or VPN is creating the problem. But the problem persists after I disabled firewall and the antivirus software and deleted VPN connection.
One important thing to mention is that this problem starts when after a software install, which I removed afterwards. I tried to run netsh reset by "netsh winsock reset catalog", "netsh int ipv4 reset myreset.log" and "netsh int ipv6 reset myreset.log" and restart. Still does not work.
Really desperate for a solution. Any ... Read more

Cannot connect to home wireless network with Toshiba Satellite laptop running Vista with SP2. Other family wireless devices working fine and good internet connection using ethernet cable from my laptop to router.

Problem just started today after trying public free wireless in airport early today. Would not connect and got a security certificate warning on another free internet network. So, did not use. Internet worked fine tethered to my phone.

I have an internal wireless g card and a usb plug-in wireless n adapter. Neither one works now. In network status section of control panel shows good network connection but red X before internet connection icon.

I ran a Norton scan and Malwarebytes scan in safe mode with no issues. Also tried to connect wireless in safe mode with no success.

Lastly I did system restore to a few days ago when wireless connection was working fine. No success there either.

Hi there, im new to the forums and i've got a problem that's been a real pain for me lately.
I've got a wireless connection in my house going through a Linksys WRT54GC router and also a wired connection with Cisco gateway (only 1 laptop uses it). About 1 month ago some strange things began to happen with the wireless connection, my PC seems not to be able to connect unless I reinstall the protocols and it's really annoying to do that every time I run my PC. Also, the wired connection stopped working (probably because of cable being broken) but it requires a router restart 90% of the time when I want to connect the laptop (that used to connect through cable) to the wireless network. The 2nd laptop has an issue mentioned in the title, the LAN works but it can't connect to the Internet through the router. Ipconfig /all shows that DHCP isn't working, there's no default gateway and DNS seems to be wrong. Could that all be related to router not being updated for a long time? I tried reinstalling drivers, unistalling and installing back network card and doing most of the things mentioned in similar threads but nothing seems to work. I know it all looks very silly but I can't do anything about it, at least now - I don't have access to any router settings and can't update it.
Every bit of help is appreciated. I can paste all the information needed from all computers.
Operating systems are: Windows 7 on PC and the 1st laptop, 2nd laptop... Read more

Sony VAIO laptop running Windows Vista Business, Intel Centrino Duo, 1 gb RAM. Was recently traveling. Used hotel wireless. Now having trouble with home office wireless connectivity. Will conntect to home office Linksys N router. Will send via wireless to printers on network. Yet will not connect to internet via wireless. WILL CONNECT to intenet if connected to the router via a cable. Have tried release and reset IP address, reset TCP/IP stack, and reset winsock. Have done re-install of the Linksys software (deleted the connection and followed the add new computer steps in the Linksys program.) In past had a HP laptop running Windows XP that had same problem, but simple IP address release and reset would fix that one. Thanks to anyone who has the fix to this one! Icarus50

Hi,
I have windows 7 Pro installed. I have a DSL connection that requires a username and password. I have read the tutorials for setting up ICS in windows 7, but it is not working for me. In my 'change adapter settings' page, I have 3 connections: LAN, Wireless and M 1 (this is the dial-up for the username and password). Here's what I have done:

I have enabled ICS for M 1, and created an ad-hoc wireless connection called 'M network'. I basically want to share my wired connection with my iPhone. Everything is ok as far as connecting my iPhone to M network, but when I try to use the internet, all i get is a 'connecting' message on my phone, and it doesnt go any further. I have used this network before to connect 'air mouse' on my phone that lets me use my phone as a touchpad. It still works fine that way, but I cant use internet.

I have even tried enabling the ICS on LAN instead, but got the same results.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hi,

Hoping someone can help.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows XP with a wireless connection to a broadband router.

Several weeks ago my laptop started dropping the internet connection randomly (I'm alos unabel to access email when this happens).

My wireless network icon in my toolbar shows the connection as 'Excellent' but for some reason both Internet and Email is not available. The only way to fix the problem has been to restart my laptop which is very frustrating.

I've noticed that this also happens randomly when I'm at home (using different wireless broadband modem) so I think the issue is my laptop not the 2 x routers/modems.

I'm running NOD32 for security as well (but have been for 4 years now with no problems till now).

Please help.

Hello everyone,
I have an internet connection problem and was wondering if anyone here can help.
I cannot connect to the internet even though all the green lights on the modem are solid and steady. I have a laptop connects (ethernet cable) to the modem (which connect to the ISP). I ask my ISP support to verify my IP address and my modem mac address and they check out good. (I have an XP OS, IE, firefox, and opera web browsers, and a cable modem connection to the ISP - all three browsers cannot connect to the internet.) I can ping the yahoo and google websites and my loopback address, but cannot access these websites via my browsers. I look in the TCP/IP protocol properties and they're all set to automatically obtain the address. I also tried to manually configure the ip address, the sub mask, the dns servers, and the default gateway (first in the general tab, then in the alternate configuration tab) to the ones I found the network connections detail. I tried the ping, ipconfig, and netstat commands to try figuring out the problem but no luck.
Has anyone comes across this problem?

Any help and advices are much appreciated.
Thx in advance.

But I have a Belkin N router, in the room above I have a desktop with a Belkin N stick.

I also have a 100mbps connection

The Windows Network and sharing centre says I have a 150.00 Mbps connection, signal stregnth low, status connected.

Any reason why the signal is low?

After attempting to configure Firefox 13 to run like all the other versions of firefox that I have used I gave up and reinstalled 12.

When I'd open a page and IE and it'd work better than Firefox, its time to go back. I'd have just used IE but would have to learn all over again. Just easier to use 12. Though with no Updates. So I will probably be peaking at IE to get a handle on it.

A:Gave up on Firefox 13

Well I will bite. What are you trying to get Firefox 13.0.1 to do that it won't do?
I have had it for about a week and still works the same as before when I had 12.
