2wire router - can't connect to verizon dsl

Q: 2wire router - can't connect to verizon dsl

I have a 2wire router that I had set up so I could use my laptop anywhere without being on a line. That was with ATT service. Now I've moved and have Verizon DSL. I thought I would just plug in the 2wire router but no, it won't work. My Belkin card says it's connected. The router says all green lights, but the internet won't connect.

However, when I put their crummy little lanyard router on (one line, ethernet cable, etc.) it works fine.

I tried running the ethernet cable through the 2Wire - NO CIGAR.

So, I'm stuck sitting in this seat with a 2 foot line to get on the internet. Verizon wants me to buy their (same) router before they will help me trouble shoot. That is so wrong! HELP?

I have a 2wire router that I purchased when I had ATT service. I now have Verizon DSL and I can't get it to work. Verizon tells me it's because I don't ahve their router but 2wire says there's no reason that it shouldn't work. When I plug it in, I get green lights on ethernet and internet but my DSL light flashes red. Last night it started flashing green and then going to solid red and the flashing green again. Can anybody help? I really don't want to buy another router if I can use the one I have. Thanks.

I can connect without any problems on my desktop PC and my other laptop, but it's been nothing but trouble with this one.

First I go and try to connect to the network:

On the laptop that I have no problems with, this usually comes up:

Instead, it goes straight to this, and it doesn't even let me try to type in the password:

I'm very new to wireless networks, so I couldn't possibly know what's wrong. I've tried several things, but nothing has worked up to this point.

When quickly reading the user manual, Seagate says to install software for it. There may be a way around that, but who knows. The user manual will provide all information you need. I have the 768 Kbps broadband (PPPoE).

The modem is Westell Wirespeed C90-36R516.

I bought a Linksys Wireless-G SRX200 router. Configured the TCP/IP to DHCP for Windows XP to obtain IP address automatically. Set the DSL PPoE username and password. Set the router password. Setup complete.

I am unable to connect to Verizon, just times out. I have to reconnect the ethernet directly to my laptop to gain connectivity.

How do I get my verizon usb mobile modem to work with my wireless router? My router is a Belkin N150. Thanks in advance

A:Verizon USB Modem to Connect to Belkin Router

Moving your thread to the networking forum, and I have edited the title for better results.
Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc Right click the devmgmt icon in the search results and Run As Administrator. In the Device Manager, under Network Adapters, is your Verizon Modem listed? or does it have a Yellow flag next to it? If the later, then you need to install the driver for it. If there are no flags and it is listed. Are you using the Verizon software to manage the wireless connection or the Windows software? Either way, you should have a Wireless icon in your system tray by the clock. Here you double click it to Show Available Wireless Networks. Does your Belkin Router show up? Can you try and connect to it? Do you have a wireless passphrase you need to type in?
Download the Wifi Inspector to test your wireless adapter and your routers signal.

I don't know if this is possible, but this is what I want to do:
Have the dsl modem router and linksys voip connected together.
I want the voip router to assign dhcp and the dsl modem router to
be used to get internet access but not assign dhcp (I think)

This is why I want it:

I have 8 wireless linksys cam's configured through the voip router.
Setting the cam's to the modem router didn't work well because of
AT&T's firewall cannot be disabled, only modified to open ports. It's frustrating as when I opened the ports for the cam's, a consistant "an unknown error has occured". So I opted to just set up the cams on the linksys router as the cams are also linksys as well. Thus, figuring they would communicate better anyway.

This is my problem:

When I connect the dsl modem router to the
WAN port on the linksys router, the dsl modem assigns it
a fixed LAN ip. What I want is the linksys router to pull a WAN ip so I can log into my cam's remotely from my laptop at home.
No matter what I do, disable dhcp on linksys router, set linksys router on the dsl modem router to DMZ, set linksys router to bridge mode.....
nothing seems to work.

All I want to do is configure the linksys router so that when I go to my internet explorer on my laptop and type in "99.xxx.xxx.xx:1024 to connect to the cam's. But when I go to linksys router config. pages to see the status, the internet ip is 192.168.1.64 which is a LAN address assi... Read more

I have been trying to find a way to connect, forward the signal, recieve the signal from my Verizon Fios wireless router up to my WGT624 V3 Netgear router.

Is there a way that I can modify my wirless port on my Netgear to recieve a signal wirelessly from my Verizon Wireless router?

My Neighbor did it once with another wireless router, but he can not remember how he did it. I am thinking it had something to do with the Firmware.

If anyone can help me with this that would be great.

I'm basically trying to push the wireless signal from my Verizon router in my basement, up to my wireless Netgear router which is recieving the signal on the main level so that I can plug my wired (non wireless) laptop into the ethernet port which is receiving wireless signal from the Verizon router in the basement in order to gain access to the internet.

Can this be done with the equipment listed above and or some additional firmware and configuration?

Thank you for all your assistance on this in advance.

Just got off the phone with Verizon. They had me push the reset button and I was able to connect to the internet again. I mentioned how slow it takes for pages to load. She said if I have two firewalls running that can happen, then eventually it blocks your internet connection. I have the free Avira and am only using the Windows Firewall. She said the Verizon router has a firewall but it's a low security. So I went on the internet was able to get on some sites, but then others wouldn't connect again, said there is no internet connection. All the lights on the router are on. So far it's still working, but this is what happened before when I lost my connection completely.

I have Windows XP, tried it both on IE 8 and Firefox. The router is an Actiontec MI42WR. The problem was with both my desktop and laptop wired connections.

I have a 2wire 2701hg-b router and recently it's been resetting itself about every 10-20 minutes. Everything will be working normally and then I'll hear a click from the router and it will go from all green to just one green back to all green. After the lights come back on the internet resumes working.

I had to replace the original power supply because it wasn't getting any power at all. The power supply I have been using for the last 6 months or so has either 4.5v or 6v. Since I bought it I've been using it at 4.5v. The thing is, the 2wire 2701hg-b is supposed to use a 5.1v 2a power adapter.

My question was, is it safe for me to use the 6v setting on the power supply from now on? I've switched it to 6v for the past hour and the router hasn't reset itself once. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks in advance

I was wondering if any one knows a good wireless extender for a 2wire gateway router?

A:2wire router extener

Truthfully, I have little use for range extenders, they are frequently hard to configure and problematic in operation. They'll also reduce the total wireless bandwidth available, something that is normally highly undesirable.

I'd be looking at running a wire to a remote location and using a WAP, and/or using hi-gain antennas and the like.
Hawking Tech has a number of products that will help you increase your wireless range. The root page is Hawking Hi-Gain™ WiFi Range Extending Products.

Some of the more interesting products are this Hawking [HSB2] Hi-Gain WiFi Signal Booster, which can be used on either end of a wireless connection to boost the signal power.

Another way to increase your signal strength is by the use of hi-gain antennas. You can choose from omni-directional or directional models, here are a some examples.

Hawking [HAI7SIP] Hi-Gain 7dBi Omni-Directional Antenna

Hawking [HAI15SC] Hi-Gain 15dBi Corner Antenna

[HAO14SD] Outdoor Hi-Gain 14dBi Directional Antenna Kit

For 802.11n applications, this ZyXEL ANT1106 6db omni-directional antenna can be used.

For really long range outdoor applications, this 24dB parabolic WiFi Antenna may be a good choice.

If you have a wireless adapter that doesn't have provisions for an external antenna, one adapter that I've had good luck with is a Rosewill RNX-G1 USB Wireless Adapter. It's feature is that is has a removable antenna and will accommodate replacement antennas.

This is just a... Read more

Thank you for your help.

A:2wire wireless router problems

Many of the ISP supplied modem/router models are customized for the specific ISP. If you got the 2WIRE from AT&T, chances are good that it won't work for Time Warner.

You mention "cable DSL", what is that. I thought Time Warner offered standard cable service. If that's what you have, the DSL modem is totally incompatible with that service. Does your "cable DSL" connect with the coax cable that also feeds the TV's? If so, you need a DOCSIS modem, not a DSL modem.

I've been reading a bit online and I've seen a few guides to disable the router function of the 2wire router/modem. So yea, I'm wondering if someone here knows of a more recent guide or a guide that has been known to work this year at least.

Hello,
I have AT&T 2Wire DSL modem and I was told by AT &T tech that I would have to buy a router if I wanted wireless connection. Well, I brought a D-Link router and that was a nightmare. Everything was connected, but the connection would drop.
Now I was told by a computer tech that I didn't need a router and that the 2wire is a wireless router. He was going to charge me $96.00 per hour to connect my two pc's using the 2Wire modem. Not! How do you configure the 2Wire to perform as router to have wireless connection?
Thanks

A:How to get a 2Wire to work as wireless router

I will be assuming that you have not changed any default settings for your 2Wire gateway. To connect wirelessly through your 2Wire, you will just need your WEP password. It can be found at the bottom of your gateway itself. It should have 10 digits. To go to your gateway homepage if you want to change some settings, just open any browser and type in "home" and press enter.

First time post here,

So, I recently switched from ATT, to Charter Cable, but don't have a router.

I have one desktop (lets call it Desktop A) connected to the Cable Modem, on this desktop I also have a WiFi Dongle that I have connected to my 2Wire 2701HG-B Gateway. I have the 2Wire, by itself, connected to a different computer in a different room (Desktop B).

My question is, what steps do I need to take (if possible) to ICS the Hardwired Ethernet connection from the desktop, through the Workgroup created by the 2Wire to my other desktop down the hall?

So far, I have enabled the Sharing tab on the Ethernet connection connected to the cable Modem, and have it aimed at the WiFi network created by the 2Wire.

I am able to access all the files of Desktop A, on Desktop B via regular media and public folder sharing, what extra steps are needed to send ICS from the host, and receive ICS at client end? If the 2Wire is the problem which changes do I need to make, via DHCP, etc.

and yes, I do realize a router could allow me to bypass this awful configuration, but I can't get one for about another week ;p

Then I connect a Netgear wireless router to one of the LAN ports on the first router (it's upstairs in a separate house) and I should then disable DHCP and give the netgear an IP of 10.0.0.254 right? Well, once I change the IP of the Netgear, it reboots and I am not able to connect to the router using 10.0.0.254 and I have to hard reset it.

Am I missing a step here?

I got a 2wire residential gateway for U-verse and it works fine but I can't get my Brother HL-2170W to connect to it wirelessly (WPA-PSK). I tried configuring the printer from Firefox and also used Brother's wizard but neither worked. When I print status pages the printer says it's connected to the router but the router doesn't show it and it doesn't have an IP address. I've left it sit for several minutes but still nothing.

This was working with my Linksys router yesterday, why would the 2wire not work

Instead, it goes straight to this, and it doesn't even let me try to type in the password:
I'm very new to wireless networks, so I couldn't possibly know what's wrong. I've tried several things, but nothing has worked up to this point.

Hello. I am experiencing a problem with my AT&T 2Wire gateway connecting to my laptop. The wired connection works fine on my XP desktop and the wireless works fine with our family's cell phone, tablets, game systems, media streamer, and a Windows 8 laptop (or at least I haven't noticed it with the Windows 8 laptop). But it seems whenever I am using the Windows 7 laptop, the wireless connection will go in & out.

There is a pattern of blinking lights whenever the connection drops. The "ethernet" and the "wireless" light always are on; the "DSL" light turns red and blinks, the "Internet" light also goes out. After maintaining that pattern for 20-30 seconds, the DSL light will go back to a solid green and the Internet light will start blinking. After maintaining that for maybe another 20-30 seconds, the Internet light will go back to solid green.

While the connection is dropped, I get a variety of pages that show that my connection is not working properly. I have attached screenshots of what comes up on the browser if I click on something while the connection is dropped. Once the connection is restored, if I re-visit the page I was trying to access while the connection is dropped, a page will display (paraphrasing here) "Resolution was successful. Please restart your browser...."

Thanks in advance for any help. This can be very frustrating at times.

Hi everyone, I have a 2wire 2701HGV-W Gateway but have been having problems with my connection lately.
I was wondering if I can use the standard modem that came from Telstra, and plug it into the 2701, as my computer is in a different room to the phone line so I need something to send out the wireless signal.
Are there any changes I should make on the 2wire to make sure that they don't conflict?
Cheers,
Luke.

I current have Windows 7 and my wireless router is provided with bellsouth/att. However, my Westel router was replaced with 2WIRE. it does not accurately show my mac addresses. my Ethernet and wireless connections are all listed as one device and once I enable mace filtering, I am booted off the internet and unable to log on. Also, I received an email that i tried to delete but it opened anyway and my browser shut down immediately, could this have been sent to gain access through my computer through a surveillance program like spectorsoft pro.

Malwarbytes continues to scan my computer but i keep getting Broken-OpenCommand and I got HijackDisplayProperties. what is this. I have a bran new dell computer and Mcafee Internet Security Suites. Please advise as to what I should do. Thanks, I am new to all of this, do I need to have the someone come in a scan, fix, repair. Or should I reset to factory delivery.

A:2wire router Windows 7 will not enable mac filtering

Well, mac filtering is a painful way of achieving a useless affect. I tried to use it to allow only the computers I know onto the internet (the purpose), but every time, it just booted them all off the network. From what I've read, it's pretty useless. Doing things like mac filtering, not broadcasting SSID, etc...only serve to make it more difficult for you to connect to the internet. The signal is transmitted in many more ways than that. Somebody with the right tools can still find your network even if you do things like that (mac filter, hide SSID, etc.) The best way to stay secure is to use WPA2 encryption with a long password (random, non-dictionary based ASCII characters, like !*?R#PZPwv^)Sounds like that email may have infected your PC somehow. You can either hack in out in the "Am I Infected? What do I do?" sub-forum (NOT in this topic!!), or you can do the simple thing and just reset to factory settings (my recommendation). But yeah, forget about the mac filtering. Just use a strong WPA2 password, and reset to factory settings to get rid of any malware you might have picked up. If you had had it longer, I would say to try and fight it. But with one fresh from the factory, you might as well just reset it to factory settings. Good luck!

OK, here's the situation. I have a Dell E1505 laptop with Windows Vista that I use as my main computer. I am connected to the internet with a 2wire2701HG-T router/modem. I just bought a Acer Aspire One D250 with Windows 7 Starter and connected it wirelessly to the network. Now, however, when the Dell is connected to the modem by ethernet, my preferred connection for security, speed, and battery issues, the internet connection on the Acer slows down to nothing and soon disconnects. After a bit, it reconnects, but is still very slow, only to disconnect again. However, when I connect the Dell by wireless, everything works normally. Is this a modem problem, or is it an issue with one of the computers? I must admit, my networking skills don't go beyond being able to set up a network name and password.

I own an AT&T 3801 HGV 2wire modem. I pay for AT&T's fastest speed of 24mbps, yet for some odd reason, it only pulls about 12 via wifi. I decided to buy a Netgear N600 router to help me out. However, the router's settings are saying, "To avoid conflict with your ISP, your router's IP address has been updated. You must now update the IP addresses in your router's configuration settings for each relevant service, such as port forwarding and IP address reservation."

Being a pretty big novice at networking that I am, I called Netgear on the problem. They said they wouldn't help me unless I payed them $69.99 for 6 months of their expert support. So, then I called AT&T and was told they won't help me unless I payed $15.00 a month for a year, and $10.00 a month for every month after if I cancelled.

Like I said, I'm pretty green when it comes to networking, but I really need the help! I plug everything I have that uses ethernet into the 2wire modem/router, but I use the Netgear only for wireless. I want to get what I'm paying for. Thanks!

I just changed my D-link router for a 2wire router.
We have 3 PC connected to the router (all with wire), and they all work fine. However, I cannot share the printer (Samsung CLX-3160) anymore. It was working fine with the D-link router, but when we switched to 2wire, it stopped. We are using a hardwire connection (not wireless). The error message (from each computer) is: "Network Printer status is not available". The light on the 2wire router for the wire going to the printer is OK (green) so, the cable is not an issue. It must be just an address issue, but I cannot fix it.

Hi guys,

I have AT&T Uverse which came with a 2Wire unit (all in one - modem, router/wireless router)

It supports both WEP and WPA, so for security I put it on WPA.

Now here is my dilemma... I have a wireless device that only works on WEP. I don't want to downgrade my entire network to insecure WEP just so I can use this one device.

So what I'm trying to do is get a 2nd wireless router that I just bought working on the network (Linksys WRT160n) , both wired and wireless (it's in my living room so I'd like it to provide Internet to the PC there as well as wireless WEP)

I've had some success but not everything is working yet.
Here's what I've done so far...

The 2Wire device operates on 192.168.1.x. Within its config under Broadband -> Link Configuration , there is a section "Supplementary Network", that I enabled, and set the following:

Router Address 192.168.2.1
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Auto Firewall Open [x]
Next, on my new wireless router in my living (Linksys WRT160n) which is connected via Ethernet via a hub to the 2Wire, I configured it to have an IP: 192.168.2.1

This is connected via Ethernet to a PC I have in my living room as well.
I have some limited success:

- the PC in the living room connected via Ethernet to the new Linksys router has Internet and can browse sites, etc

- this PC connected to the Linksys is also able to ping a machine in my 192.168.1.x network

- from a machine on my 192.168.1.x n... Read more

I took my old Compaq computer to my former computer class and we learned the hard drive was still good but were not able to do a system restore from the back up disk as it just hung at a certain point so we formated the hard drive and reinstalled the xp operating system and also installed Acronis backup. We then did all the updates and installed Internet Explorer 8. All worked well until I tired to install the 2Wire software. It kept indicating that installation was not sucessful and I needed to have Internet Explorer 5 or later. Well, duh! So after many attempts without success I attempted to uninstall IE 8 but in the process it didn't remove all or something. I then tired to install a copy of IE 5 from a disk but it kept failing because the curent IE needed to be removed first. How do I remove IE 8 completely so I can install an earlier, less buggy version? This is the computer that crashed back in May of 09.

So I recently got this Linksys wireless-g router WRT54GS2. And my other PC has an external 2Wire 802.11g USB Wireless Lan card. Well the way the software that came with the router works was it has me basically allow each device that connects to it. Well I can get the 2wire card to get an actually really good connection to the routers network, but when I go to allow it on the router it does not show up as a device that's connected to the router.

I do know a little of what I'm doing. I named the network something odd like smurfs and so I know the card is in fact connecting to it. But for some reason I cannot get the router to see the 2wire card. Is it possible these aren't compatible with eachother?

Any help or tips would be great. I didn't think it would give me this much trouble.

A:2Wire Lan Card + Linksys Wireless Router compatible?

They certainly should be compatible.

Have you removed all the stored wireless network profiles and searched for the network? Have you tried removing all encryption from the router to see if it connects that way?

Previously I had DSL modem connected to WRT54GR, and desktop hard wired to it. Also have a Dell laptop with wireless card connecting to router wirelessly. Desktop has no wireless card. (Computer room is on 2nd floor)

ISP provider has upgraded the modem to 2wire wireless router/modem. We did tests within the house and I have 6 Mb availability where line enters the house (basement), but only 4Mb
because of older wiring in the house.

It was suggested that for max speed I could put the 2wire in basement, and connect to it wirelessly. Not a problem for the Dell.

My question: Is there a way to have the WRT54GR on 2nd floor and connect my Desktop to it hardwired, and communicate with the 2 wire wireless modem/router? Can this set up be used instead of putting a wireless card in my desktop?

Recently, I had AT&T U-Verse installed for both TV and internet. It's been running fine and I've really had no problems, except two.

I got a laptop a few weeks ago and naturally tried to connect wirelessly to my router/modem (the 3800HGV-B from 2WIRE), but to my dismay the provided default network key did not work. This was not a big deal, really, because I found a work-around by plugging a cheap N router in as an access point, and that worked fine. But today, I needed to forward some ports on the router to host a game server. This was the first time I had ever tried this. I went to the router's configuration page, change some settings, typed in the System Password for the router, and my login failed.

The default Network Key and System Password are printed on the unit, and since I hadn't changed them, those are the ones I used.

Any suggestions?

A client of mine has a very large house and wants to extend the range of his wireless signal. He is able to get signal everywhere except the kitchen.

Which range extender or access point is the best one to pair up with 2Wire's modem/wireless router?

If there is not a reliable one, then I could just use Linksys products.

I could hook up a WRT54G to the 2wire and have that be a hard connection, and then get a WAP54G to act as a repeater. Or, should I get two WAP54G's and not get the WRT54G and set it up the same way I just described? And would I set up the 2Wire as a bridge? Is that possible? Links as to how?

A:router linksys wrt54gs and 2wire homeportal 1800hw

Well, you have two routers, and if you're connecting the Linksys to the 1800HW, you don't configure a secondary router to PPPoE. You might want to try this configuration.

Connecting two SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

Can anyone help out here because AT&T is definately not. I have a Minolta QMS2200 printer (network ready) and I am trying to get it to work with my network. AT&T supplied me with a 2701HG-B 2Wire wireless router modem for the DSL service.

I follow the instructions in the printer manual for setting a IP Address in the printer (I set it to 192.168.001.032). I connect it to one of the ports on the back of the router. I set up a new printer on my computer as recommended in several posts (set it up as a local printer with an IP address, the one above). I can not print to it or even see it on the network.

AT&T says that they only support DHCP and do not support static IP addresses and that is why the printer will not work and want to sell me static IP address for $70 per month for 5!!!! Or I need to get a network printer that supports DHCP.

Has anyone been successful in installing a network printer on the 2701HG-B?

For about a year now, I've been fighting with my home internet connection. After much observing and poking around, I've narrowed the phenomenon to an awfully specific situation: that closing a browser instance on my Windows 7 Pro 64bit computer somehow causes the router to throw a DSL retrain error. Now, that's much too specific to get anything meaningful off an Internet search - hence why I'm here.

I'd like to know if this is even plausible, and if so, what is going on such that I can fix it. Also, I'm considering upgrading another computer from Vista to Win7, but I don't want to add another computer that hates our router unless I have to.

Technical details on the equipment, plus how and what I've narrowed things down to.

Other devices both Mac and PC are still connecting through my router so I'm pretty sure it's in the DELL. Out of warrantee of course.

I can see networks in the "connect to a network" box but when I try to connect to them, it brings up a box that says unable to connect to network. Most of the time the wireless status icon shows 5 unlit bars with an orange dot over them.

The only suggestion from trouble shooter is reset the router by turning it off and on. No go there.

I can connect with ethernet cable with no problem.

I've tried the "flush.bat" and other suggestions in other forums with no success.

it says it's working.

Welcome to the forum djbeede.

You appear to be connected both wired and wirelessly here, valid IP for both connections, the ipconfig/all would show me more than just ipconfig. You should unplug the Ethernet when testing the wireless as an Ethernet connection will override a wireless connection most every time.

Do you have any type of third party anti virus software installed on this system?

Have you tried resetting the router using the actual reset button on the side of the router?

What's up guys

Hey, I have a cable connection with time warner cable, and I needed a router to connect multiple pcs now that i have more than 1 computer at home.

I managed to dig up an old DSL Modem/Router (Actiontec GT704-WG), it's an all in one device it has the modem and router in one device.

So i was wondering, is it possible to connect the cable modem to the dsl router through some kind of special cable, or through the USB connection? Thanks.

Let me know if you need more info regarding my setup, as i don't know what info you may need.

A:Verizon DSLmodem/router

No. You cannot use a modem/router as a router only.

Please tell us the brand and model of your modem. Sometimes people have a modem/router w/o knowing it.

Hi;
I have a Verizon FIOS router m/n MI424WR which has been acting up lately.
Beginning about 3 months ago, it began to exhibit the following symptoms:
No connectivity from any connected computer on wired LAN. I am not sure if wireless devices had connectivity, but I do not believe so.
The problem was always resolved by power cycling the router for about 30 seconds, but it would recur usually after 2-5 days.

Eventually I contacted Verizon using live chat, and after they did some checking, had me reset the router to default.
This seemed to solve the problem for about 6 weeks, but this week it started happening again. Exactly the same issue.

Today though, I decided to check the IP address of my computer while it was not able to connect to the router. I found that the subnet had been changed from its normal 255.255.255.0, to 255.255.0.0.
The computer's IP address had changed as well, from 192.168.1.x to 192.254.208.105.
Of course, I could not access the router, as the subnet had been changed.

Also of note, I have a second router being used only as a switch to connect more PC's to the LAN. This second router is set to an ip address of 192.168.1.2 and is registered as STATIC with the main (Verizon) router. DHCP has been turned off on the second router, and there is no WAN connection, so all it is doing is acting as a switch.

I went on live chat with Verizon again this morning, and tried to convince them that I need a new router, but the agent would not issue an order... Read more

A:Problem with Verizon router

You need the admin id + password to alter the settings.

I found that the subnet had been changed from its normal 255.255.255.0, to 255.255.0.0. The computer's IP address had changed as well, from 192.168.1.x to 192.254.208.105.Click to expand...

That 254 moves your router from the Private, non-routable Class C into a Public Class C - -
Not good for you (security & privacy) and a sure sign of being hacked

1) login and immediately change the default password to something you know (hint: same as your pc login?)

2) disable remote administration; usually by disabling port 8080

3) investigate your MTU settings; see this discussion.

4) look for a firmware update for that make/model

I am working with Verizon's Westell router. (http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Westell/A90-750015-07/Cisco_WVC210.htm)

I have installed and setup dynamic dns with Cisco's WVC210 cameras utilizing a linksys/cisco router. Essentially, the setup requires me to assign a static IP and a specific port for each camera.

Camera 1 is 192.168.1.18:1026 . This setup works internally. Now externally I have the router set up to send its IP to DYNDNS. Usually, to resolve the issue and have it work I just setup port forwarding within the router to send any 192.168.1.1:1026 request to go to the camera.

But I keep getting an error. I am almost positive that the issue is that im setting up the port forwarding option wrong within the Westell.

Within the router it allows me to select the port then the device that I want to forward to. But this doesn't work..can anyone help ?

A:Port Forwarding w/ Verizon's Router?

You have the routers cascaded (daisy chained) and are doing double port forwarding, right?

Now externally I have the router set up to send its IP to DYNDNS.Click to expand...

Which router? Be aware that router updates don't always work reliably. Have you checked to make sure your DynDNS name is getting set to the correct address?

I don't understand what you mean by "send any 192.168.1.1:1026 request to go to the camera." What is 192.168.1.1, and why/how is it specified in which router?

Okay... I LOVE computers. But I am a complete NOOB at networking!! I have a verizon router (FiOS), I am trying to host a ventrilo server for my friends and I off of my computer, which will also be connecting to that server. However I have no idea how to open/allow/forward/whatever i have to do to the ports. It uses port 3784. I want to set it up so I can connect to my server from the same pc it is running from, and have other people connect to it too.

(just figured out how to connect to my own, now I just need other people to be able to connect.)

I have a a win 2K pc connected to the internet via a westell modem provided by verizon. Everything works fine until, i tried to install the dlink 514 router.

I first un-installed all of the verizon software (as suggested by dlink). Then went through the steps of configuring the router

I can connect to the internet but the DNS does not seem to work.
i.e i can go to websites using the ip address but not the dns name. The router is able to get an ip address from verizon and is also able to get the ip for the dns server. The PC is assigned a private ip by the dlink router

Dlink advised to re-install tcp/ip on my SMC NIC. I dont think that is the problem.

Any suggestions ?
Thanks

So I am trying to setup a static IP address for my laptop(mainly for utorrent) and have run into a major problem. I have everything i need to do this but when i try to log into my Verizon MI424WR router i run into a problem with the password part. I know the username/password but when i try to enter the password something very strange and frustrating happens. If i type one letter, three astericks come up, and when entering more than one letter a different number of astericks come up. So by the time i enter just "password" im left with this "●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●" and then it wont work. I have never seen anything like this before. I saw an older thread where someone had this same problem but there was never an answer to it so im asking the question again in hopes to find an answer. This is extremely frustrating. Thanks for any help

Type the correct password (case probably matters); don't be confused by the random number of asterisks used to throw off anybody shoulder surfing for your password.

I was curious if there is a way to set-up a wireless router for use with Verizon DSL without having a desktop computer directly connected to make the connection to service.

For our Verizon DSL service, the system appears to require a computer directly connected to the modem to make the connection. However, we recently got rid of our desktop computer and were hoping to use laptops to travel around the house. Does one of them need to be connected by cable to make the connection, or is it possible to make the connection over wireless? I currently have a linksys wireless router.

Thanks!

A:Set up wireless router to verizon DSL w/o desk top

Typically you need to attach a PC via ethernet cable to a wireless router to configure the router to "make the connection to service." Also you need to attach a PC via cable to configure the wireless network (channel, encryption, etc.).

Except for these configuration episodes, you can go totally wireless with your PCs.

Of course, I don't know if your Verizon DSL service has some special restriction (and a way to enforce it) against the use of a router.

I just moved recently and had my FIOS come over with me to my new place. The tech left after installing the new stuff and router. I tried to hook up my old Actiontec MI424-wr to the COAX and it doesnt get WAN(internet). The light stays amber and the configuration page says there is no connection.
I noticed that there is only an entry for the computer connected to it and nothing else.

I guess my question is this: What would you normally need to do to get this actiontec router to use the coax? Thats how it was setup at my old place.....

This is more just for learning how this works than switching routers. I want to understand what needs to be configured...

I have been unable to connect to internet with verizon dsl for about a week now and today I called verizon and they ran ping tests to 3 different places and I am sending and recieving ok and in the control panel it says that my connection is connected, so the tech had me do some other tests and said that my internet explorer is not working right, is there someway to repair IE 7 like you could with win 98 or can you reinstall over top of the existing program. any help would be appriciated

You can uninstall IE7, and then reinstall it. But try the following first.

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

Hello,

I have no problems connecting to my email server when I am at my home and connected to the Verizon network through my verizon supplied router but anytime I am away from home and try to connect via a Wi-Fi connection I can't connect to the outgoing mail server. I can receive emails but cannot send.

I have done some troubleshooting and verified that the setup is correct per the Verizon site.

I can ping the outgoing mail server which tells me that I can see it but I am unable to connect to it for some reason.

Does anyone know if you can connect to the verizon outgoing mail server from a non-Verizon connection? I can receive email with no issues it is only sending. I am thinking that this is harder to pervent people from spamming through the Verizon mail server?

The following error is what I receive when trying to connect:

"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'verizon e-mail', Server: 'outgoing.verizon.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number 0x800CCC0F"

It is a major pain in the butt to not be able to send emails if I am not at home. Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated.

We had a client that had the CTB locker. We scanned and cleaned it with Combofix, Malwarebytes, JRT, ADW, Emisoft Emergency, and Rogue Killer. Deleted all temp files, etc.. 2 Days later it was back. System was down when we arrived. We connected a netbook to the Router and almost instantly Windows Defender (win 8.1 system) popped up saying it prevented unsolicited downloads to your computer. We reset the router to it's defaults (hold reset button in until it resets) and problem went away. Has this been reported before? I have seen infected routers a couple of times in the last coupe of years, but not recently and not any of the Crypto Locker variants.

Hey all. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Here is my issue. I use Bit Torrent to trade Grateful Dead concert recordings (all legit trading). I have Verizon DSL, a Westell 6100G Modem and a Linksys WRT 160N V2 Router. The Modem is located at 192.168.1.1 and the Router at 192.168.2.1. In the router setup page I have properly forwarded and triggered my ports. However, when I visit my torrent site, it tells me that I am firewalled or "NAT". I used to have the Linksys WRT54G Router and it was configured to PPPoE and everything worked fine. One day I did a firmware upgrade on the router and it would no longer connect to the internet. I switched ti to Automatic Configuration - DHCP and it connected, but performance was slow and this NAT issue began. I eventually got the new router and I have the same problem. If I set it to PPPoE, put in he username and password, I lose my internet connection. If set to Automatic Config - DHCP it works, but, again, "NAT".

Verizon told me that this newer modem self configures itself as PPPoE and there is no need to set the router to PPPoE but I can't seem to get these ports forwarded or get around this NAT issue. It is causing a significant loss of performance and while torrenting I can not connect to others, meaning I can not share what I have downloaded (the torrent client won;t upload).

I have been screwing with this for months and have spent endless hours on the phone with Verizon - Linksys says my router is ... Read more

What does one do when Verizon says to contact the router manufacturer, and the router manufacturer says to contact the DSL provider?!

Before trying to setup my daughter's desktop computer (Windows XP Home and a Netgear WG311 wireless card) as a wireless connection to the WGT624 using Verizon DSL (she has a phone jack in one room, but wants to use the computer in another room), I contacted Netgear support to see if this was feasible.

No problem they said, but that in order to do the initial setup on the router I should be connected to the router. Not a problem either, since I simply connected my laptop to the router and had easy access to the router setup. Don't know what I did the other day, but did in fact have her connected; as long as the computer remained on, she was connected. However, she called the other night to say that upon booting up her computer, she had no connectivity (though the connection between her Netgear WG311 card and the WGT624 router was excellent, according to the icon in her taskbar tray).

The challenge is know WHAT bits of information in the WGT624 setup need to be completed, and WHAT the values should be. I am currently connected at home to Comcast broadband and have a wireless network working just fine. I suspect there may be a field or two that need information for the DSL to function properly that I didn't have to provide for the Comcast setup.

dhcp on
remote admin port 8080

then i try http://myip:8080 and it wont connect.
why wont it connect? do i need to add another rule on the router to port forward?

A:router remote admin through verizon dsl modem

Hello,

Your LAN and WAN address are in the same IP Range. I think that this will cause problems with routing.

First backup your router and modem configs.

Change the modem IP address to 192.168.0.1 and change the routers WAN address to 192.168.0.254.

Change the Port forward rule on the modem as required for the new IP address and make sure that remote management is enabled on the router (port 8080). Another way to do it would be to create a DMZ to the router so that all port forwarding is done there.

Dave
