This is the laptop Toshiba running vista. Both computers running Norton.
I turned off firewall on laptop but still does not let me have use of internet. I know it is just a matter of changing the properties but do not know what boxes need to be checked or unchecked. It might help that you know the laptop usually uses wireless broadband from verizon through USB access device.

I have been using wireless internet on my laptop at work without any problems, until a few days ago. Now when I try to get online, I get a message saying connected with limited access and at the bottom of my screen where the status of the internet comes up, it has a caution sign, that says limited activity. I cannot get on line, but it says that I have an excellent signal. Please help.

You seem to have a good wireless connection there, let's expand that a little and add some pings.

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 74.125.45.100

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address)

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

Hello,

I am having difficulties with establishing an internet connection on my pc(laptop).
I have IPTV. The TV works fine, but in the right hand side of the screen there appears a message:"Limited Access or no connectivity...".

My laptop has windows 7. Wheter I try to connect via wireless, or ethernet cable, I get the message: "Limited Access or no connectivity...". Both, Tv and Laptop are connected to Internet through a HG658 Huawei Router( 2 of the 4 lan ports are pre-configured by the ISP to work with TV's; the other 2 are for connecting computers.)

I am asking you, if the problem might be related with the router, or with my ISP.

I must mention that I, for some unknown reason, cannot access the router's default IP adrress("The page cannot be displayed" - in IE9. ")
My IP is static. Setting the DHCP mode to off(disabled) could somehow be causing these problems?

Please help me find the source of this headache...(I am now posting from a neighbour's computer).
Thanks in advance.

A:Router Limited Access or No connectivity

It sounds as if your router is bad and you should give your ISP a call for a tech visit.

2)Reconfigure router configuration.
3)Connect to other wifi aside from my home wifi.
And that's all. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry for my bad English as English not my native tongue.

A:No Internet Access / Limited Connectivity-Windows 8

Suggest that you uninstall all preinstalled bloatware and any type of trial anti virus software, then visit Windows update Center.

Be sure to use WPA2 security with AES encryption.

Or Contact Acer for help.

Hello, I am currently having serious issues connecting my windows 8 desktop to wireless internet. It runs fine when hardwired in and I have tried to reinstall drivers I have run programs ensuring me they are all up to date. The computer is a HP Pavilion m8430f. The router is a Verizon router and I believe the company that makes it is actiontec m142wr. Any information on how to try and solve this would be very helpful. Thank you.

Try shutting down your computer, then power down your modem/router wait 30 seconds and turn it back on.

wait about 5 minutes and turn on your computer let it do its magic then see what the connectivity looks like..

I have recently bought a new computer that came with Vista installed. I've been installing all my old USB attachments so I can get everything up and running, but I've hit a road block with my wireless access point.

It is not a brand name AP, just one I bought off of Ebay from Hong Kong, but it worked very well on XP. It comes with the ZDwlan utility for managing the network, which worked fine on XP.

My first problem was getting the program and the right driver installed in Vista. I was able to do this with help from other sites around the web. But no one has covered what I need to do now that the hardware is working in order to get Vista to recognize the connection!

I can use the ZDwlan utility to set up the access point and windows detects that there is a wireless connection, but it is not identifying the SSID. It just shows "unidentified connection" No Default Gateway or DNS servers are listed under Details in Network and Sharing for t he wireless. I turned off Vista's wireless configuration system because it was blocking the ZDwlan program.

All I want to do is get Vista to recognize the wireless connection I'm trying to set up and share the internet from my cable modem connected to the computer via USB with the wireless device/program so I can connect my game consoles, etc over wireless. My Nintendo D... Read more

Hey everyone~ I'm Rosely and around 3 or 4 months ago a purchased a Windows 8 32bit Asus Vivobook (S400CA-DH51T). Everything seems to work great other than, every once in a while, (sometimes many times a day, sometimes once a day, sometimes even less than that) my internet connection will switch to "Limited" and i'm not able to visit any sites by their DNS addresses. I can access Google when this happens by putting in http://64.15.120.233/ and the error i receive when i try to visit a webpage is something along the lines of "DNS Look-up Failed" so it appears to be a problem with the DNS. Disconnecting from wifi and reconnecting usually fixes the problem, if that information helps. I haven't used the computer anywhere else enough to know if it happens on different connections than my home network, so i only know that it happens here.

Any help I can get is much appreciated~<3

Dear users I recently upgraded from vista home to vista ultimate and my pc is connecting to the wireless access point but I have limited connectivity is there a solution here that will fix this. I read all kinds of solutions that says install vista sp2 service pack that still has not resolved the issue. I have also tried to disable the DHCP broadcast flag using fix it for me in Microsoft support but that does not work either. The strange thing is my pc connects wirelessly no problem in other business locations but will not connect to my home router. Before I upgraded to ultimate the pc was connecting fine.

A:Limited connectivity to wireless access point

OK,

Delete the troublesome wireless connection & create a new one to the same location on your new windows system.

I would always advise upgrading Windows the system to the latest version service packs etc. (NOT Microsoft recommended drivers for third party devices though, OK for MS devices).

If this is still a problem post back.

Hi, I've been away camping for a couple of weeks and now that I'm back my desktop computer no longer connects to the internet. As I state in the title, however; the signal strength says it's "very good".

I've tried removing the connection and re-adding it, I've tried moving the wireless USB/removing and potential disturbances, but to no avail.

Any help would be much appreciated!

A:Signal strength: Very good, Access: Limited connectivity

Turn off the Modem
Turn off the Router
Turn off the PC
Turn off all network gear

Do this for 30 seconds.

Then slowly turn on the modem (DSL or Cable)
Then the router
Any switches
Then the PC
Then the rest of your network.

Hi all,
I have an Acer Aspire 3680 with atheros wireless lan on a vista operating system.
Recently I moved and thus switched my internet carrier from a linksys wireless router on comcast to a verizon fios wireless router.
Ever since this switch, I have been unable to access the internet wirelessly for any more than 3-4 minutes before the signal turns off.
It is always on "local only" access or "limited connectivity".

I have numerous wireless devices running on my network, however my laptop is the only hardware that is having problems with my new network.

Can anyone tell me what is going on and how I can fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Hello guys, I am using a Dell Inspiron 1545,with Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit OS.I was using the hotel wi-fi network in which I am residing in currently .Everything was hunky dory for a week , when all of a sudden I could not connect to the wi-fi network in my hotel,I keep getting either a Limited connectivity message with a yellow triangle on the wi-fi icon or a Local only access. I searched everywhere and tried all possible things like :

- Changed the Dhcp flag in the windows registry as directed on the microsoft site.
- reset the wincsock using " netsf winsock reset".
- Disabled Ipv6 for the network in the "Properties tab".

Its highly pissing off as my friend staying in the same hotel with a HP laptop running Vista Home Premium is able to connect to the same wi-fi network without any issues.

Can anyone please help me out with this , its really irritating !

Thanks in advance.

A:Windows Vista Local Access only or Limited Connectivity

Guys call it my lucky charm or whatever , the day I posted my query on this forum , I was myself able to figure out the solution.

I just changed the registry setting field DhcpIPAddress to an IP Address that was from a Spool of IP addresses that was functioning correctly. I checked my friends IP on his laptop that was able to connect to the same network and set the IP Address in the DhcpIPAddress field to the next IP (my friends IP + 1) . After that I also reset my winsock settings with the command. "netsh winsock reset" to run this command , you need to open command prompt in the administrator mode. But I am not sure whether this contributed to solving the problem. I guess changing the DhcpIPAddress field was enough.

Do the above, and restart your machine, hopefully it should work fine.

Let me know if you need anyone needs help. All the best !!!!

Hello,

Recently I have been experiencing recurring internet connectivity issues. Roughly every 30 minutes, my laptop will report limited connectivity to my home's wireless network and I will lose internet access. Disconnecting and reconnecting to the wireless network will allow me to temporarily regain internet access (up until my computer inevitably loses its internet connection again due to the limited connectivity issue). This issue appeared suddenly, but I suspect it might be due to a virus of some kind (as I have neither installed any software recently nor have I tampered with my computer's internet settings). I also believe the wireless network is fully functional as I am able to access internet at all times using other computers and wifi devices (even when my laptop is reporting limited connectivity). I ran a Norton 360 Full System Scan and a Malwarebytes Anti-malware scan but to no avail.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Recurring Limited Access Wireless Connectivity Issue

Try to set static IP and check if the issues exists after. Try also disabling power managment of Wifi card in Device manager, I doubt that is the issue but can't  do no harm.

I have had this problem for years (4 years to be exact). So how do I fix that:Basically it says:"State of the connectionLimited or no connectivityYou might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources. This problem happens because the network did not attribute an address to the computer."

A:This connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources.

Can you still access internet?
It appears that your ISP is not running a DHCP server. DHCP allows you to request an IP address and DNS server addresses automatically. So, you may have to manually set the IP address and DNS server addresses.

Hi folks,

Been having a problem for a while with an acer aspire 5612 laptop in that whilst I can connect to our wireless network, I can't connect to the internet. It says I've got local only access. I've tried to follow the steps on previous threads about this, but to no avail. I'm using Vista, have re-installed Kaspersky anti-virus 2010, uninstalled Norton Internet security and set windows firewall to be the firewall.

After renewing the winsock settings and restarting, I noticed that I had no default gateway on the wifi settings, and thought that might be the reason behind this all not working, so I manually set the ip and dns ipv4 settings for that wireless network (copying them from the LAN settings that worked). But that hasn't fixed the problem, hence posting here.

Here's the ipconfig/all with a LAN connection that works and a wireless connection that doesn't.

Your wireless NIC has DHCP enabled but it's not getting an IP address from your Netgear router. The IP address you have, 169.254.38.27, is from a ranger called APIPA. You cannot surf the Web with an APIPA address. You also have no default gateway defined (which should be your router's IP address), and I'm not sure why there's all the IPv6 stuff in there.

It looks like you need to configure your Netgear router with a) a unique IP address (try 192.168.1.1) an... Read more

I'm trying to fix my girlfriend's Windows 7 laptop after she had a virus/malware infection. I'm pretty sure we've successfully cleared the virus (an updated/full scan with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware in safe mode comes up clean). However, we have had no Internet access since the infection. The wireless router/connection itself is fine (I connect to it daily with my laptop, as I am to write this post) but her laptop won't connect to it, we can't browse any web pages.

I may have made the problem worse in trying to resolve it. I stupidly followed the advice on a forum for some registry edits for Windows XP--deleting WinSock and WinSock2 from the registry and then restarting the computer in hopes they'd re-register themselves. Unfortunately, WinSock2 re-appeared but WinSock did not. I'm wondering if this has created a new problem (or compounded the problems we were already having).

In diagnostics, we currently get the following report: "Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I just ran an ipconfig in the command prompt and got the following results:

A computer running Vista Home Premium (Service Pack 1) says IPv4 Connectivity: Local and IPv6 Connectivity: Limited whether I use a wireless connection or a Ethernet cable. It appears to be connected and has Excellent signal strength when I use wireless, but I cant ping anything. In Device Manager Microsoft 6to4 Adapter had a Code 10 - This device cannot start error. I disabled it thinking that it might be the problem. It didn't solve anything but I left it disabled. The other drivers seem happy. I also read that the Internet Protocol Version 6 isn't used so I unchecked it in the connection properties.

Hello, I have been having a problem recently with my desktop's wireless connections. I know the hardwire connections worked without a problem while I was living on campus but while I am at home on winter break I have to rely on a wireless setup. The machine's specs are listed next to my profile name, and I am using a Linksys wireless-N receiver and router. What happens is once I log on and the machine boots up it automatically connects to my secured and encrypted connection with full signal strength and pretty good speed. It is capable of full internet connectivity and web browsing, but it often fails after a while.

I have had this problem for a couple weeks, ever since I moved out of my dorm. My brother uses the same USB receiver and we tried switching out the adapters with the same result so I am also fairly certain the adapter is not the cause here. Typically, if I only browse the web the connection has no problems, but if I try to connect to Steam or use Himachi to connect to a LAN with some friends the signal changes from high strength to limited connectivity and displays the yellow triangle/exclamation point icon on the task tray. Once this occurs I am unable to connect to the internet whatsoever, though the signal strength from my router is still very strong. Hello,

I am not certain what is relevant information, but this is an acer R7-571 with Windows 8.1. Though I can find networks when out and about, say at Starbucks or something, I cannot connect to them. It comes back with the response that the "connection is limited". This happens at friends' houses as well, using their password to join the network it always says connection limited and then I cannot get on the web.

I have tried all of the fixes that I could find thus far, but have had no success. I know, this is vague, I don't recall what I was doing, but through searching you can find some "solutions" but unfortunately they have not worked for me.

Currently I am trying to access a VPN using CiscoAnyconnect and this does not work either, is this connected to my other issue? The failure with the VPN is that "The VPN connection failed due to unsuccessful domain name resolution".

Thanks for any help, Terry

Welcome,
To use VPN you must be known by the server you are trying to reach. I've used VPN to connect from home to my work network. I needed the information from our IT department to reach our servers and they had to grant me access so that the domain would allow me to play.
Have you done any configuration to your network card as far as DNS servers or any of the other parameters available?

I live in an apartment and my room is right next to where the router is located with only a wall getting in between the adapter and router, so I don't think that's an issue either. Oh, and the... Hey, i have a windows 7 laptop that ive just recently purchased. The wireless Connectivity was working fine last week, now suddenly it just wont work. I believe that its due to a program i recently installed that goes by the name of Connectify. I have uninstalled it yet still whenever i try connecting to any router wirelessly, the PC displays limited or no connectivity. On the other hand When i connect my laptop to a router via an Ethernet cable everything is fine. In case you are wondering, im currently using a 3g usb wireless stick to surf the internet, but i dont want to use it as i already have a router to use. Here are all my info:

I use a wireless router to connect my laptop to the internet. occasionally I cannot connect - i get a message that says I have "limited or no connectivity". To resolve this, I have to turn off the router, wait a few seconds, then turn back on. I can connect after that. What can I do to avoid this?

A:Limited or No Connectivity

First stop would be to upgrade the firmware on the router. Many times these kinds of issues are addressed in firmware upgrades.

I have a dell laptop that is on a network with a netgear router that is hooked up to a modem which is connected to my parents computer. I was surfing the internet with no problems. Then I got off came back a little while later and now I have no internet. I use Intel ProSet Wireless to connect to the netgear router network that I have set up. It says that I am connected to the network but then I get a little pop up that says I have limited or no connectivity. I have restarted both computers, I unplugged everything and plugged it back in, I have set up the the network again.... nothing seems to work. I ran a diagnostic tool that ran tests to make sure that the wireless adapter is working correctly. All the test come back normal except for the ping test. It says "No Response: default gateway, DHCP server". I am perplexed. What is going on?

I am always called upon to fix friends computers. I usually bring them to my house and hook them up to my dsl modem. The problem is that they dont work right away. It says limited or no connectivity on the task bar. After maybe an hour or so it will begin to work correctly. Is there something I can do to speed up this process or am I doing something wrong? It also does this when i hook my computer back up. Takes an hour then starts to work. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi friends,

I usually connected to the internet using Wi-Fi connection till a week back. Now when i connect to the network, i get an error message as limited or no connectivity. When i click on details it shows that the network did not assign a network address to the computer. This is a shared wireless network in my flat which has been provided by the owner so i do not have any information about the router. I have two laptops, one is running Windows XP and other Windows 7. The problem i am facing is only on the one with XP.

I have tried resetting these things but it did not work:
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log
I have also downloaded a tool lspfix.zip but it does not show any problem in my machine.
I get the following result for ipconfig /all:

Recently (about 4 days ago) I networked my girlfriend's and my computer together to a wireless router (linksys wireless 2.4 ghz router). It worked okay for a few days but today it seemed to stop working for my computer. Her computer still connects fine (which is how I'm typing this) but my computer is giving me the limited or no connectivity sign. When I go to repair it says that it's having trouble finding an ip address. I've tried redoing the network wizard, I've reconnected the power to both the modem and the router, I've reset my winsockets, checked the ethernet cords, release/renewed my IPaddress. my ip config is

Windows IP config

Host name-D1XQ2W31

Connection DNS server :

Autoconfig enabled - yes
Autoconfig IP Address - 169.254.244.155
Subnet mask- 255.255.00.00

Also if I manual configure my ip address it says the connection is good but it still wont let me connect to the internet. Any and all help is much appreciated

Thanks ahead of time for looking.

My internet connection up on until now has been working fine, until all of a sudden it is unable to connect

I am unsure whether this has anything to do with it, but by accident I dropped my laptop on the floor whilst falling asleep, and the next morning found it had limited connectivity to my network

I have tried many different networks, and my current network works with other laptops but not mine

I am unable to ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew but it says "The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation"

If you need any information ask me, Thanks in advance

Hi,

Please can someone help me to get back my internet connection? I have a belkin wireless router, it's not a direct connection to my cable modem.
This morning when I turned my PC on I had the 'limited or no connectivity' message, since then I have tried the following:

All windows options i.e repair connection, reset routers/modems etc.....
Tried different RJ45 cable
Reinstalled the network adapter

I am currently on a laptop conected wirelessly to my router, so I am assuming the problem is localised to my PC and the router.....I also noticed there is a connection (100Mbps) so I am sure it's my internet settings which have scrambled. I am out of ideas so does anyone know what the problem could be? is there a way of resetting the network connection?

I am currently using Vista Ultimate 64bit edition.

Thanks

Phil

Perhaps you can tell us something about the system? Here's one thing to try, assuming it's XP-SP2.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

I have an asus eeepc 1005ha running win 7 starter. Recently I was updating zone alarm and my system froze. After restarting I I can only get limited connectivity with no internet. I can connect no problems with my phone. I can't connect with a wired connection either, network diagnostic says "the wireless network adapter is experiencing problems" I'm at a loss as to what to do, I'd rather not have to format and start over.

I don't know if its relevant bit I can't get internet by tethering my phone either.

it maybe a zonealarm issues - see below

try this also

Safemode with networking
with a cable connected from PC to router
check the cable - see if there is a light on the router accosiated with the cable port used , also check if you have a green/yellow light on the PC LAN port
- try safemode with networking
as the PC starts keep tapping F8 - a menu appears - choose
safemode with networking - see if that works

Hello All. I have been having a problem lately with my Linksys WRT54G router. When I try to connect to it, I get the error "Limited or No Connectivity". I have tried using the installation disc and followed all of the steps to no avail. I have also tried resetting the router, unpluging the cable modem, resetting my pc...and so far nothing has worked. Right now, I am connected to the internet by using an ethernet cable directly from my cable modem to the pc.
I have tried repairing the connection also, and that did not work. Ive tried releasing and renewing the ips and all that and it didn't work either. I simply don't know what to do. Please help if you can.

Ok so I have a Netgear router with 1 computer connected to it wirelessly (this one), one connected by a cable, and a connected PS2 game system. I get full connection to the internet on the wireless connection and the PS2 but I am getting Limited or No Connectivity. It worked fine yesterday but today it isn't. The only thing that was changed was some of the things that startup with the computer. I used Spybot Search and Destroy to deactivate some things in order to hopefully increase the computer's performance. Nothing I disabled strikes me as important to the connectivity of the computer. I just disabled things like Microsoft Works, AIM6, quicktime, and other things I knew wouldn't affect the computer and only slow it. But, it's the only reason I can come up with as to why this happened.

When looking at the support on the connection I go to details under where it gives me the message "Limited or no connectivity You might not be able to access... This problem occured because the network did not assign a network address to the computer" and it shows that it has a physical address, ip address, and subnet mask. The DNS server is blank as is the default gateway and WINS server.

Please help. I'll be pleased to give you any other information that will help.

I bought an old IBM Think Pad laptop and i cant seem to connect to my wireless router. I have another laptop which connected with no problem just simply typed the wireless password in and all work fine and the same for my iphone.

First problem was when I got asked for the wireless password it came up with a message say " The network password needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network comfiguration".

I got told by a friend just to try typing in the first 5 digits if the wireless password which I thought had worked but when I clicked on internet explorer it just came up saying cannot display the webpage.

I then went back to the Network Connections Page and under Wireless Network Connections it says "Limited or no connection"

I tried talking to my ISP which is Talktalk and they were no help at all.

Also i noticed that the local area connection says network cable unplugged. I dont know if this has anything to do with the problem?

I dont have much knowledge about computers so any help at all would be great.

Is your wireless router also configured to use WEP encryption, or is it WPA/WPA2? If the laptop is very old it may not support WPA.WPA2.

Mkay, after searching through what feels like 100 tutorials I just can't figure out WTF is wrong with my laptop.

I turned it on and I could not connect to the PUBLIC WIFI network that I usually connect to when I'm out. Then I tried connecting to other networks and they all just had a little piece of garbage icon on the wireless symbol.

A yellow alert sign.

I restarted my computer about 10 times, went into my device manager, used windows troubleshooting, uninstalled and rolled back my Intel Centro Wireless(M)2230 wireless driver. Nothing will work. I can`t really take a screenshot of my ip config /all, but is there any other way of fixing it???? PLEASE HELP!

Click Start > All Programs > Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator. Windows 8 users press [Windows Key] + [X] and select Command Prompt (Admin).
At the command prompt type: netsh winsock reset catalog and press [Enter].
Next type: netsh int ip reset reset.log and press [Enter].
Restart your PC for the changes to take effect.

I recently built this new computer about 1 month ago and when I tried the internet for the first time after being built it was "plug and Play." all i did was plug in the ethernet cable and I got the internet. Now it is not working.

I set up my computer at the new place and it isn't working. Like I said, both of my roomates computers are working and the cable that I am using is working (checked on other computer). However I get Limited or no connectivity. I have no clue where to start. It seems that their aren't any packets being sent to the router and when I try and change anything in the properties of the connection the window crashes and does not respond.?

Your network doesn't have any DHCP server because you haven't specified a default gateway as such you are getting an APIPA 169.254 IP which is the your network assigning its own IP you need to go into your settings and configure the default gateway eg 192.168.3.1 < the same gateway your router uses- (I apologise if this is something you have already done without success)

Lets start with the setup

My computer connects directly to the intermet. Sisters connects "Trys to" via a Wired connection to my computer.

It works ok most of the time... But the last two/Three times the modem has been reset*virgin problems in our area*, the net doesn't come back on her computer
I thought it might be something to do with the IP address's as it gets stuck on the Unable to retrieve the IPaddresses lol, The Connection between computers, and my computer to Net are all set to "Obtain an IP/DNS address Automatically"

Also, the Connection between the Two computers comes up as "Unidentified network"

Any help at all would be great, also, I tried Ding'n her computer from mine, Nothing got thru, Didnt do mine because when i did the /IPconfig thing, it came up with like 7+ connections, and i only have 2 active network things on my computer "Modem and the cable to other computer" so i was nervous about which is which etc lol,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop, and I have Windows XP. I haven't been able to connect to my wireless for the last few days. I was getting a "Limited or No Connectivity" message and now I am getting a message that windows could not connect to any of the preferred networks and that it will continue to try to connect. Just a note I do have another laptop MacBook and it's connected and working fine.
I tried ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew - didn't work.
I just tried ipconfig /all and this what I got:

The problem is I cannot connect to the internet and keep getting Limited or No Connectivity. I know the ethernet cable is good as I can connect using netbook with ethernet cable and the netbook can also connect to internet using wifi as well as cell phone so router works fine.

First I tried ipconfig -flushdns then netsh winsock reset and then reboot. Viola, it was fixed. I could connect to the net fine. Next morning, same Limited or No Connectivity error msg. Tried same fix but no luck this time. Then I tried netsh int ip reset reset.log followed with netsh winsock resetcatalog then reboot. Worked again. Then it broke again and the second fix would not work again either. I went and got the wireless adapter off my daughters computer and installed it in the desktop and viola I can connect to net using it. But I want to use the cable to desktop which up to a couple of days ago worked fine. Help

Okay, I know we've all juggled this problem time and time again, but it's got me stumped this time.

I was in the process of fixing and cleaning a friend's machine of viruses and the XP Antivirus 2011 malware, which had disabled their computer and its connectivity.

I succesfully stripped the machine of all its malicious software and re-enabled the onboard NIC card, but I simply get Limited or No Connectivity. I've tried every trick I know of, and even some I'd researched, and I'm at the end of my rope so let's throw it to you guys and see if you've got an idea... Hello everybody,
This is the first time i'm attempting this kind of forum (forums at all).
I've encountered i problem of assigning a copmuter to a network.
I recived a message form Network Connections "Limited or No Connectivity".
The settings are on Auto mode. Gaining IP adress should be from the DHCP server but when i check the instant IP is out of IP Adress Pool, while DNS server IP is 192.168.41.1, for example it gives 169.254.99.1.
And If i give the IP adress manually the the copmuter doesn't want to see the server.

HOW CAN I SOLVE THIS PROBLEM
Thanks in advance.

illidian.

A:Limited or no Connectivity

Start from ground up..

I assume you are connecting to a LAN via a cable.

When you plug in the cable, do you get a link light on the NIC and the device at the other end? (BTW, how exactly is your network built?)

Is this a fresh Windows installation or just some random computer? Do you have the DHCP client service running?

Try running Winsockfix.

Do you have any software firewalls, VPN software, packet sniffers? Uninstall or disable those.

Boot a CD Linux like Knoppix and see if Linux manages to obtain an IP. This way you can see whether the issue is software- or hardware-related.

I have 2 wired computers on my network and a wireless.

Well this morning on one of my wired cpu's everytime I opened up a web page after few seconds another one would pop up for no reason.

So I ran spyware doctor, and it detected a shop at home spyware.

I rebooted th system in safe mode and removed the spyware, since then I get the message "little or no connectivity". I've unplugged and rebooted everything and still nothing works.

I installed network magic and it said it couldn't repair the problem...so if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

My configuration is that I have my wireless router hooked to my broadband router hooked to my cable. The other 2 computers work fine.

Then i restarted them both, and i start getting *Limited and no connectivity* Prior to that i was also messing with other things, like file sharing so i could acces files on the other computer. This did not work either, but im not seeking that right now. Here is a critical information peice. I ran

and this is what i got. I noticed that my ip was not 192.168.1.xx
Instead it was something like this ip...4.246.36.86
I try renewing my ip from the icon that tells me i have limited or no connectivity, but it said it could not renew the connection.

I have recently attracted the annoying message, Limited or no Connectivity, on my internet network connection. I heard it was a problem/bug with SP2, and I am looking for an answer.

My internet works, however, we are on a network, and it's the other PC which can't connect.

I have a Local Area Connection, which I use to connect to the internet.

I have a connection which is my network card, used to link the 2 PCs on the network. Sometimes, I am getting the message on my side to.

Usually, I go into network connections on the other machine, which is on the network, configure the network, and another connection icon will appear saying Local Area Connetion on John (my machine), which is normal. This then lets us both use the internet on the network.

I do not use a router, just a wire going from my PC to the other one.

I have tried everything. The Windows SP2 patch, another one which is something to do with clearing all the TCP/IP Stack, and that does nothing. I have also tried uninstalling SP2 but to no availl. I have ran these programs on both PC's, and have had no luck.

I don't seem to be getting the limited or no connectivity icon as much, since I reinstalled SP2, I just can't get the network icon to appear on the other machine, showing it has connected to my PC through the network, after configuring the home and networking wizard with Windows.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just installed driver for Intel® PRO 10/100Mbps built-in Ethernet and connected the cable to the modem, and after a long time of "aquiring network address", says limited or no connectivity. I tried renewing IP address and it says "windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action could not be completed: renewing your IP address"

Connection works on my laptop.

A:limited or no connectivity.

Disable or remove the ethernet in Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager.
Then reinstall the driver once more, from Intel. Be sure you have the PRO and not one of the similar 10/100 Intel models... though many will work.
Be sure your cable is good. Those little plugs are very prone to failure with any pulling or bending.

I have a dsl connection where I am unable to connect due to 'limited connectivity' message. My service provider gave me a solution by modifying the Local Area Connection - TCP/IP settings. Instead of the default 'obtain IP address automatically' they gave me a specified IP address, subnet mask and default gateway to use. This works great but whenever I switch upon using my router I am unable to connect anymore. Any kind of input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Here is the solution the dsl provider gave me:

*Use the following IP Address

IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Btw, my router is Linksys Wireless G.

I am seeing a lot of people with this problem, but unfortunately their fixes haven't worked for me yet. I ask for your patience and assistance, as I'm an amateur at this.

I am running Windows XP with security pack 2 on a Compaq laptop. I have SBC internet service and a router (Linksys 802.11B).

I downloaded a patch (KB884020) to try to fix the "Limited or No Connectivity" problem, as well as a zip file called "SP2_connectivity_fix.ZIP" but that hasn't worked. On Add/Remove Programs, I cannot find a Windows hotfix called "Q815485" that some people say is causing the problem. If I can't find it, how can I remove it?

Someone suggested going into internet protocol under my wireless connection and resetting the IP Address and Subnet mask. How do I get there? Right clicking on the connection and going to "Properties" does not work -- it takes me to General and Wireless Networking tabs with no choices regarding IP addresses.

This is what came up when I pinged my router and reset my IP address (or tried to):

Ok
the past little while i have been getting this error on my LAC. and it has been absolutly sapping all the speed out of my internet. Downlaods now go like 5 kb/s instead of 70+. Internet pages take a long time to load and such. i tried winsock fix on it, that did nothing. I tried that patch 80707 or whatever the nbumbers are, and that did nothing.
I suspect it might have something to do with windows firewall, but when i turn it off it stays the same.
when i try to ipconfig/release, then ipconfig/renew it gives this error

Hey,

I noticed a few days ago on my wireless notebook that I wasnt able to get a connection, and just assumed an issue with comcast or something, but my wireless pc was running fine online, and the other pc directly hooked to the modem was fine as well. Then yesterday, I discovered both the wireless notebook and wireless pc were not making connection. The other pc was fine tho. This is what it says in network places:

Limited or No Connectivity

but it says I've been online for 1 day, and 11.0 mbps but there is a yellow exclamation point on the icon. It then says "more details" so I click that and it says this:

The network did not assign a network address to the computer so you may not be able to connect to the internet.

then it says "repair" and I clicked that but it just kept tyring and kept saying the same "Limited or no connectivity"

What is this?? How do I fix it? I tried rebooting the modem and the wireless router. Still, the pc that is hard wired to the router is running fine with no problems, it's just the 2 wireless ones.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Renee

Alright - Heres my situation - any help would be hugely appreciated.

We have our home internet hooked up through a Belkin Router.

We have 3 PCs connected to it through ethernet direct cabling, and 3 laptops that connect via a wireless connection (yes, it can easily handle more connection if needed).

All the ethernet connections work fine. The wireless connections have worked fine for 6 months. About 3 weeks ago one of the laptops got a limited connetivity message - I fixed that eventually by uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless adapter through the device manager. 2 weeks ago a second laptop had the same issue - which I have been unable to resolve, and now the 1st laptop has the same issue as well - Limited Connectivity. The laptops send packets but dont receive any.

The 3rd laptop (also connected wirelessly) has no problems at all (even my phone, which has wlan, works and the PS3 connects wirelessly no probs, but not 2 of the laptops). Its really annoying and confusing. Been trying for 2 weeks to fix it - have tried everything I could think of, friends could think of, and google could find for me.

Yes - all settings are identical on the laptops. And yes - I have tried the XP SP2 patch, the PCHell limited connectivity sollution, manually assigning ip addresses, single connections to the router. Even borrowed a friends usb wireless adapter to see if it was wireless network cards - but that worked on the pcs and laptop that was ok, failed on the other 2 limi... Read more

I am experiencing the dreaded 'limited' connectivity issue. Ihave a Dell Studio 1725 on which I installed Windows 8 a couple of monthsago. I use a Telstra Mobile WI-FI 4G Hotspot (aka a Sierra 760SHotspot) to connect to the internet This problem has happened a fewtimes in the couple of months that I have has Win 8 installed and Iresolve it by stopping and starting the connection but since a recent tripto Melbourne it has been continuous and nothing will fix it. Itstarted when I tried to connect to the internet in an apartment we were stayingat in the CBD where I was looking forward to seeing the 4G capability work, butalas, all I saw was the limitedconnectivity and no internet connection.

A few days later when I visited my son in outer Melbourne I experiencedthe same problem with the hotspot, however, my Dell Studio Notebook quitehappily connected to the internet via his hotspot which tells me that there isnothing wrong with the Notebook or drivers, thus I figured my Sierra wasplaying up. However, on returning home and returning my Sierra toits cradle I found that it is working without issue on a Dell Inspirion6400 and ‘no name’ Desktop both running Win 8 but not on my Dell Studio.

I have carried out the normal activities of switching all off andrestarting, resetting devices and have tried the following proposed solutions withoutsuccess:

Are you using a Router?
Are you just using cable modem connected to a PC?
Have you updated the firmware on the router?
Have you updated the drivers for the network card on your desktop or laptop?
Do a power on and off on the cable modem then on the router if you're using it.
If you just have the cable modem contact comcast has let them remote into your cable modem to see if their is a problem with it. If they find a problem you can, get one from them or save some money and go to one of the electronic stores and buy a cable modem. If you buy one on your own you have to tell comcast the mac address on the unit so they can join you to their network otherwise you won't be able to get onto the internet.

I'm assuming that's the ipconfig/all from when in a normal boot as you have no connection. Based on those results, you aren't even reaching the router. I would guess a program is blocking this. Possibly an antivirus (I have seen Norton, McAfee, and others do this). Try disabling any antivirus. Also, any firewalls you have (except windows firewall, that shouldn't be a problem).

Hi,I am having a problem of "Limited or No Connectivity".I am using windows xp SP2.My computer is connected to a 3COM router with cable (wired).I tried almost everything:?Removing and istalling the network card.?Replacing router and cable.I think that the network card is good because I can ping to localhost.I think that this is some maleware or virus because1.Windows takes more time to reboot than usually.2.It always open the system32 folder after reboot.I also posted under Networking:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/282443/limited-or-no-connectivity/Please help me.Thanks!!!

A couple of months ago my PC lost its network connection to my router with error message "Limited or No Connectivity". In an attempt to fix it I messed up my PC and ended up reformatting the disk and reinstalling XP. Before I had even finished rebuilding it the message was back.

I have tried looking on the internet and some people suggest disabling the error message as in their case the error is erroneous. However, in my case it is a real problem - no result from pinging the router or any other PC on my network. There are also suggestions that SP2 is the issue but I have tried without SP2 and I still get the problem. I have also tried Microsoft patch
KB884020.

The solutions to fixing this are usually to run Winsockxpfix 50% chance it will work. For the other 50%, I simply power down and give it 10 minutes then use WinsockXPfix. Trying to repair the connection (from the network settings) times out after several minutes and then shows an IP address of 169.254.*.* whereas my network uses 192.168.0.*.

Even when my PC has lost its connection, my son's PC can happily connect to the router as can either of laptops I bring home from the office. Son's PC uses wireless, my PC and both laptops are wired.

Kit as follows:

Shuttle SN41G2 (using onboard network connection)
Netgear DG834G (v1)
Windows XP Pro (Sp2)

All fully patched.

Any thoughts gratefully received - I am completely lost.

Today when the connection has gone I have tried two things: ping 127.0.0.1 - always worked and get a crossover cable in and connected to another PC then change the IP and subnet mask on the second PC (it is an office machine hence the need to change the subnet). When I do this the two PCs can see each other (ping and able to open a directory on the other machine).

My conclusion is that the problem lies with the router. I have seen one thread that suggests that there may be a compatability issue with the DHCP client Netgear routers and some hardware. This would fit with all PCs in the house working bar one. Am I just jumping to conclusions or is this reasonable?

Im going crazy here,I dont have full internet access on my networked computer. They are hooked together via ethernet cards and crossover cable,no hub.
It was working fine for probably a year then all of a sudden it wont load certain pages,i dont know what happened.
After countless hours of frigging around with the home network "wizard" it still does not work. I went as far as re formatting both computers and still the same problem.
They are shared, the networked computer does connect to the internet,i can download things(slower than before)and browse MOST sites but it will not connect to windows update or hotmail or a few others.
After i instlled sp2 on my main computer i now get the message on the internet connection icon down by the clock that says"limited or no connectivity" and when i go into my network connections and try to repair that connection it says it cant coz it says " windows cannot finnish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed..renewing your IP address."

I have had this problem for a while now and asked about it here before and didnt really get many suggestions.
Im a newbie when it comes to dns server and IP addresses so if some one could help me out in a simple step by step fashion.that would be appreciated.

any ideas?
Thanks
