Solved: Netgear Router Troubles

Q: Solved: Netgear Router Troubles

I am not exactly computer savvy and when I was setting up my wireless router I used the CD that came with it. I have Windows Vista and a Netgear WGR614 v8 wireless router. When I installed it it wasnt working properly so I used the Vista tutorial and was able to finally access it on line. I thought I had set it up correctly and installed it as a secure network but even though I wrote my passcode down, it keeps telling me access denied. How do I uninstall it so I can start over again? Any help would be appreciated!

I have a laptop, its a generic brand, but it uses windows 2003. It is setup with a wireless router from netgear (ID Number: MR814v2) which is connected to a Arris Ethernet modem. Now, this set up has worked for two years... but recently, netgear is comming up with an error message that says my IP adress cannot be renewed..... However, the Netgear router works with a different laptop....

A:Netgear Router troubles...

Then the issue is with your system and not the router. Call Netgear - Good company and should help you with a reconnect. Jazz

Hope I'm posting this in the right place.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

My father recently changed ISPs, giving us a higher download cap but we are experiencing some problems.

The package came with the standard cheap wired router and he set up the new connection without issues.

However, after transferring to the old wireless router (A Netgear DG834GT) the connection drops out sporadically for lengthy periods.

The phone line is fine, but neither wired nor wireless computers attached to the wireless router can access the internet.

Connecting a computer through the wired router works but this is of course only a short term solution. My father claims that the internet drops out even through the wired router but I haven't experienced this myself.

We have inputted the new username and password into the old wireless router correctly, and an email has been sent to the new ISP, but I suspect that a response on this forum will be faster.

I suspect that it is an issue with the router, but I can't think of anything.

Thanks

The PCs all work on cable and wireless OK - you just get dropouts, on both wireless & cable - correct

make sure all the settings in the router are as required by the ISP - compare old router an new router

it may be a DNS issue

post an ipconfig /all when its working and then repeat whe disconnected and save and post here when connected again.

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all

So I have AT&T DSL. I bought a Netgear N300 ADSL2+ Modem/WiFi Router that is compatible with my service.

Previously with this Modem/Router it would constantly drop the wireless connection for the Wii I have that was used to stream Netflix.

So recently I bought a Linksys E2500 Router so I could be able to use the Wii, along with 3 other desktops, 1 laptop, and 3 phones.

My ideal setup would be this:
Set the ADSL2+ Modem/Router to be just a modem (I know how to set the option for this)Connect the Linksys Router to be what all the devices connect to wirelessly (this would serve as the DHCP server)
I have read that one of the Routers has to be set to "BRIDGED" mode, yet I don't know which device has to be Bridged

I am using one of these with a new black linksys wireless router, (N class) and although it does see the internet, it is very slow and the signal is weak. My wife's laptop has one of those wireless plug in cards and when she sits right next to me, her signal is GREAT. Is there anything I can do to boost the signal of my desktop pc's wireless pci card to pickup the signal batter? The router is one of the newest Linksys, (all black and rather space age looking,) and I believe it broadcasts a signal for about 4 houses away in this neighborhood I am staying in, but yet my pc always gets a "Low" or "Very Low" signal. My card is a NETGEAR WPN311 Rangemax. Any ideas? Thank you!

Heres my dilemna, I have installed a netgear wireless router for me (Win2000) and a usb wireless nic card for another pc in the house, to share my internet connection. The router seems to be configured correctly, i have a cable internet connection so my router is configured for dhcp to get ip's from the cable connection my pc runs flawlessly, i also have inplace the necessary wireless security. But my issue is the other (Win98) wireless workstation, it can see my SSID on the network and my connection is reading at 65% but it doesnt seem to see the router i have the worstation configured for dhcp from the router but for some reason they dont see eachother I dont understand why? if i run ipcofig on the win98 pc i get a apipa address instead of a dhcp ip address that my router should be pushing out just like it does for my pc??? I think im missing a major step here but i cant see it...

Hi All,

I recently put in a Netgear firewall, configured it, its running no problem. Then I setup a new Netgear N600 wireless router, configured it, gave it a static IP, connected to it, works like a charm. Thing is, when I try to access the web gui I receive nothing.. Is the Netgear firewall taking priority or something? I went directly connected to the netgear wifi router and double checked to make sure that there was no settings restricting administration from wifi users, etc.. Anyone have a similar setup ?

Thanks All

A:Netgear FVS318G FW & Netgear N600 wifi router Can't access webgui

You sure been busy! Have "seen" you all over this place.

Is the FVS318G router connected to the N600 router's WAN port or a LAN port?

If WAN have you changed one of the routers so that they don't both use the same LAN subnet (I didn't check each one, but they probably both default to the same).

If LAN have you disabled the N600's Dhcp server?

Should be easy!....
But I cannot get my NEW Netgear N600 router to communicate with a NEW Netgear WN 3000 RP extender.

The instructions say to press the WPS button on the extender then the WPS button on the router. No WPS button exists on the router!

The instructions also I can use any wireless network manager utility to set this up. Can't find where this is in Windows 7.

The I pad has found the NETGEAR_EXT address but won't connect. And the light on the extender does no indicate teh router is communicating with it.

Thought this process would be a simple plug and play, but...frustration!

This is a problem that I have been having and been trying to get resolved for a month or so.

The system that I have is a home computer, windows xp sp#3 home version IP static, 192.168.230.2 with a subnet automatically set to 255.255.255.0. The second computer that I use is a laptop, windows 2000 pro, sp#4, static ip is also 192.168.230.30 with a subnet set as well as the first computer. I do not have a problem using the crossover cable and transfereing files that way, but now I have a router in the line and wanted to send the information wireless to the computer A through the router. The router has been changed from itís original ip of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.230.70 with the same subnet as the 2 computers.

I can use the command from the computer A and ping the computer A and the router to rule out telecommunication error from one side. When I ping the laptop, nothing. I get timed out. When I do the same on the laptop, I can ping just only the laptop. Then I tried to ping the router, I get timed out as well. Is there anything that I am missing?

I have also shared both drives on both computers as well and the permissions have been set.

The router is a netgear wrg614 that is using dhcp server address within the ip range. Also there is no DSL internet on this rounter, I am trying to use it as a file sharing device between 2 computers.

On the two computers, I have installed the file sharing within the properties of the network connections and they are both on the same networ... Read more

If the router is using WEP or WPA encryption you will have to enter the paraphrase into each device. The numbers on the back are either WPS password and the MAC address.

Go to the manufacture of your router website and look for "Support" or documents to show you how to do this.

Ok, so far Tech Support Guy users have been soooo helpful with all my problems and patient with my amateur-ness
Let's hope you can understand me with this inquiry, and I can understand what I need to do...
I have a Netgear Wireless-N 150 Router WNR1000v2 that my daughter hooked up for me a few months back. Then the ISP provider was "switched" and I'm told that my brother was at my home re-installing the same router. I was out of the country and now that I'm home, we've "switched" ISP's again, and apparently the router needs to be re-installed again...?
I'm not understanding "why" it needs to be re-installed each time... I would've guessed that "once" would be enough (thus being the initial installation) followed by maybe "reconfigured" or something [at most] whenever we switch services... Wouldn't that make sense?
However, if re-installation is necessary, so be it, but that isn't my problem... the original CD seems to be missing (along with a bunch of other CD's) which I'm almost sure my brother "took" because he took alot of things that he won't return... [long story short, my brother has addiction problems and is causing problems in the family].
Anyway, is there a way I can "accomplish" setting up this router "without" the original CD?
There are some icons my desktop that apparently were downloaded during this whole installation, such ... Read more

A:Solved: Help setting up a Netgear router pls

The only value of the CD is the user manual, which you already have online, so no loss there.

Chapter 1 of the manual is probably sufficient for your task. If you can connect your computers to the router by ethernet and by wireless then the only thing you probably have to do is (re)configure the WAN settings--how it connects to your modem.

If you post your modem brand and model we can probably help with the WAN configuration if you don't have the information from your ISP. If you are posting via a connection to your modem you could post the following to give us some more hints ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I recently replaced my old router with the Netgear WPN824 RangeMax router. I have 4 systems on it (3 PC, 1 Mac). All have an internet connection. When all 4 systems are running Windows operating systems (3x Vista, 1x XP; my wife has Vista on her Mac for some PC MMO gaming), there's no issue. However, when she boots back to her Mac OS, download rates drop to 14-30Kbps.

I've spoken to the people at Netgear, who said they had absolutely no idea what was going on.

edit: I forgot to add I have 2 desktops (1 mac, 1 pc running vista) direct wired to the router and 2 laptops (both pc's, 1 xp, 1 vista) connected via wireless.

I have a Paradyne DSL modem connected to a Netgear WGR614 wireless router. This set-up has been working great for over a year.

A couple of weeks ago, my DSL (or so I thought) quit working while I was using it. No big deal, I just let it be, thinking it would be up the next day. Next day, same thing, so I started the normal troubleshooting. Everything looked like it should, so I connected directly to the DSL modem and everything worked fine. I decided my Netgear had bit the dust, even though everything looked good. I tried another router and had the same results, so I purchased a new Netgear because I wasn't sure of the configurations for the second router. Same thing.

In order to connect the modem directly to the computer, I have to enter the IP, Gateway and DNS numbers in my PC, so I know my numbers are still valid. Any ideas as to why my DSL will no longer work through a router? I can access the routers internal configuration from my pc, so I know the connection between those two are good. When I set the Netgear back to factory defaults, it was able to detect what type of connection I have, so I assume the connection between the modem and the Netgear is good. I tried disabling my firewall temporarily. I am at a loss as to what to try next. I know several people who have the exact set-up at their homes and are working fine.

The troubleshooting was performed on my wired Windows XP Home desktop; however, I also tried wireless with my Windows XP Professional laptop.

I've been trying for days to log into my router to try to enable encryption, http://192.168.0.1

Each time I get ''log in failed'' System Authentication Failed. Please contact your system administrator for the correct information

I've tried everything suggested on the page below, nothing works.

http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101210.asp

My Internet connection through the Router is fine, no problems, 48.0Mpbs at the moment.

I had previously phoned the support line twice because the encryption code they gave me didn't work, all it did was stop me from connecting to the internet, no joy there , they just talked me through exactly what's on the troubleshooting page above, suggested it was a problem with the wireless card.

I'ts since then I can't connect to the Router.

I've spoken to IBM support, ( lovely people logged the call and phoned me back, cheapest support call ever )
we've tested everything and they assure me it's a problem with the Router, only now I can't get in to change anything.

I've mailed Netgear Support twice, once Saturday then again Tuesday, no reply yet so I was hopeing someone here may have a few ideas.

Would it be worthwhile to upgrade a Netgear MR814 router to a newer Super G or better. When currently using this router it says it will take me 13 hours to download a 46MB file, watching it transfer at a rate of approx. 1.54 KB/sec. Worked with RR tech support and they say the modem is transferring at correct speed so problem must be with wireless router which I have had for approx. 5-6 years. Problem began when I switched to digital phone and they brought me a new modem.

A:Solved: Netgear WNR2000v2 Router

Maybe not. I don't know how you or anyone else would have a firmware release before the initial release but this confusing FAQ seems to say something about your issue:

10. Why is the Enable Traffic Meter checkbox grayed-out and unable to setup the traffic meter?

Please note that the firmware version before v1.0.0.34 (initial release) only supports Traffic Meter for WAN types on PPPoE or PPTP mode. Traffic Meter for WAN type with DHCP or Static IP mode will be supported on future FW release. Click to expand...

My advice is to update to the latest firmware, if there is a newer version than what you have, and then reset to factory default settings and reconfigure. If still no good all I can suggest is to call or email Netgear.

As a small background - i moved into my first apartment with 4 other guys and since I brought the routers I'm the one trying to fix them. The router we initially set our place up with was the same one i used in my dorm last year. All year long it was iffy with Windows computers, kicking people off randomly, not letting them connect (myself included) yet my friends mac computers literally never had an issue once. After moving into this apartment I have not been able to connect to this router at all and have been using my upstairs neighbors' the entire semester. We thought it could possibly be because we have 5 laptops, 3 Xbox's and 5 smart phones attempting to access it (rarely all at once its usually probably 5 items total when were all home). So i made a trip home and grabbed a spare router my dad had laying around so we could run two routers. That's where i ran into some problems, well more problems i guess.

The original router : Netgear WNR1000
Second Router: Netgear WNDR3300
Modem: Arris TM822

Laptop: HP dv6t Windows 7

So i tried plugging the second router in through one of the LAN ports on the original router to set up another network but it did not work. I'm new here and need help. I've spent probably six hours with various tech support people over the last 24 hours and am frustrated.

Bought and installed a new Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR 3400. Modem is actually an ActionTec Gateway GT701 which I have made a bridge to the router (also recently updated firmware too). I can get online wirelessly with several computers and the ethernet connection on the XP works fine too. The MAIN problem is that my wireless signal isn't any stronger than before on the old ActionTec.

One of the reasons we got this is because the wireless signal didn't reach to the master bedroom (using iPad or iTouch). Now it will sometimes show one bar, but is quick to drop it.

I'm so frustrated and don't know what else to try. The router is placed up high in the office and does have to go through a block wall. But I read lots of reviews where the Netgear boasts strong and far reaching signals.

Anything else I can do? Thanks for your help.

I never had a router before, so the cable modem had been connected directly to my old PC, a windows 98SE hp pavillion. I got the wireless connection working great. Laptop, PS3 are now online. The problem is basically, when I connect the router to the old PC, the PC doesn't connect to the internet. If I connect directly again though it does connect to the internet so the problem is not the wires/cables. Is there some sort of preliminary step I was supposed to take? Any ideas?

Since the desktop has wol via cable, I can access the desktop anytime with my laptop using static IP. Now the wife went and got 2wire modem with wifi capability and is using it on her laptop. I am wondering if I can change the settings within the 2 wire to setup static ip for INTRANET use and be able to get INTERNET access as well. The other problem is that I am still wanting to use the netgear router for the desktop as a wol so that I can access that computer as well for files. Is this non-impossible? Both support dual band/gigabit.

Anyone using either of these? Your thoughts?

My personal choice would be the D-Link, but I suspect both will be similar. I haven't used either of them, so I base my opinion on my experience with other products from the two companies.

Well i finally bought the hardware to make a small network at home, my sons pc to be exact.

So i goes and buys a netgear rp114 router which was recommended to my by a mate.

I have a 1mb cable modem connection and both pc's are running windows xp pro, and have more or less the same hardware specs. ( xp2100)

Well i sent the son up into the loft to wire up the cat 5 cable, connected the router to the cable modem (wan) then connected the 2 pc's to slots 1 and 2 at the back of the modem.

Switched everything on all lights are on everything seems ok.
So i tried to connect to the internet with my pc, but no connection

So my question can anyone give me a link to a site with a step by step guide to setting up both pc,s so as to share internet connection.

Hi, I am an absolute computer beginner (I use my computer for word processing, email, and internet), so please bear with me; I read a lot of other posts to determine what I would need to say here, sorry if i leave anything out.

We have a gateway desktop with windows xp, which is connected to a cable modem, and the modem to a wireless router, netgear wgr614v6. an ibm laptop running xp connects to the wireless network and has never had any problems. we got a new laptop, gateway, with vista on it and it will not connect to any wireless network. i ahve already called gateway tech support, reinstalled the drivers, gone through all their suggestions, and they say the problem is with my router. the laptop finds my wireless network but says it cannot connect, no matter how close it is to the router. the network is not password protected, encrypted, and i even tried turning off all firewalls. i have logged in to the router and tried changing the channels and other settings to see if that would work and nothing does. i have power cycled the router and modem every time i made a change to see if that would help and it does not. the laptop consistenly sees the network but says it can't connect.

netgear has a site with info on upgrading your router for vista but next to my model router is a link for a complete reinstall of the router; we dont have vista on this desktop and there is no one file specified to upgrade the router for vista in the download.

Hello,

I have a Netgear Wireless N-300 Router and I'm able to get on the internet on my computer that is hardwired into the router, but the wireless feature does not seem to work. I cannot get wifi on my iPhone, my netbook my iPad, or my laptop. All devices tell me i'm connected to the router, but I am not able to update any pages or connect to the internet. it's very frustrating, as Netgear will only help you if you spend $40/month on tech support and I've done all the firmware updates and have tried everything I can think of. Has anyone else had this problem? All of the lights on the router tell me everything seems to be working fine. And my phone tells me that I have a strong wireless connection, but nothing works. Very frustrated!!!

Thanks in advance for any help offered. PLEASE HELP!!

Thanks

Hello everyone,

I just bought my parents a Netgear WGR614v10 wireless router for Christmas. I'm trying to set up a wireless network and make a wired connection from the router to their Dell Dimension 2400 desktop running Windows XP SP3. Internet access is provided by NetZero using a 2Wire DSL modem. Without the router connected, the wired Internet connection with the Dell desktop works fine.

I went through the procedure correctly to set up the wireless router but there is no Internet access. So I plugged the router directly to the desktop NIC and tried a "ping" command to 192.168.1.1. I received four "Destination host unreachable" responses.

An "ipconfig /all" shows (with direct Ethernet connection between NIC and router port 1):

Well I guess this is a little bit tricky. I just bought a new router ( its my first one its a Linksys WRT54GC wireless-G broadband router). So, I folow all the steps one by one, connect the router to the modem, connect the pc to the router, plug the router. I ran the Cd. Set my connection in DHCP, put WEP 128 it security enter my password I click save settings a then it says : Unable to find internet connection, check your Internet settings then it send me in the step were I choose my connection type (PPPoE, DHCP etc..)
Thanks for your support

A:Solved: Router setup troubles

First, you don't need the CD.
You followed all of the steps correctly...until you came to step 4. After you connect the modem to the router and the router to your computer, you have to get a connection from the modem to the router. That depends on the broadband type. The router is configured for a cable modem out of the box. You have to configure it for DSL, since that is what you are using (the point-to-point over Ethernet (PPoE) is what gave you away. That requires you to make the changes your ISP requires (including a password, if necessary)). Once your router has an IP address (hint: it will not begin with 192), you can proceed to securing your wireless connectivity (which, by the way, is disabled by default).

In any case, don't proceed further until your router gets an IP address from the modem.

A friend of mine is trying to set up a wireless router at his home, so that his girlfriend can access the Internet from her laptop. It's acting rather strangely.

If he plugs the net straight into his computer from his modem, then he can connect just fine, but once the router comes into the picture there's a problem. The router seems to be sending out IP addresses to both machines, but there's no internet access for either computer. I've power cycled the modem and reset and power cycled the router and still nothing. I've gone to 192.168.2.1 and checked the router settings, even set everything back to the factory defaults as my friend said it worked fine straight out of the box at his last place of residence. I can ping the router from both computers. I can ping loopback on both computers, so I know there are go network card problems. I cannot ping any websites, nor can I access any from Firefox or IE.

I don't understand why the router would be pushing out IP addresses, but not allowing access to the net at all. Can you guys suggest anything else that I might try to help him get connected? What am I over looking?

Thanks.

I have a netgear WGT624 v3 Wireless G router. I run linux, and recently I started noticing that anytime I tried to download a large file (like a deb file which is similar to a setup.exe in some ways) would be corrupted. Running md5sum would confirm that each download attempt would be corrupted differently every time.

I ruled out the laptop by bypassing the router and going strait to the cable modem and with that connection I had zero errors. Otherwise, connecting to the router wirelessly causes problems (and this has been confirmed via a laptop, a PC and an iPhone which has also experienced download problems with installing apps).

The router is currently running the latest available firmware and it's been running this version for at least a year with no issues up until a couple days ago.

I've attempted to reset the router to it's factory defaults and work my way back up to a wireless WPA2 connection from scratch, but it didn't solve anything. Even disabling encryption entirely still produces the same problem. Some downloads just locks up for minutes before resuming and ultimately to no good end as the download is still corrupt.

So, does this sound like a hardware problem? Think it might be possible to fix it somehow? Perhaps blowing dust out of it maybe? Probably worth a shot but I've never heard of anyone doing that before.

Any other suggestions? Would it be worthwhile to attempt to reinstall the firmware? Or even revert to an older version to s... Read more

A:Solved: Cannot get new Netgear DSL Modem/Router connected to Wireless

yes, the pin number should be written on the label on the router

otherwise connect to the router by a cable and then you would need to loginto the router configuration pages and goto the wireless section where you can read the pin code

do you have the exact model N600 is generic for a few netgear models- again it will be written on the label on the router itself

Hi All

I have a Netgear Router at home, and both my Laptop and Tablet connect to it via WiFi. Now on both the Laptop and Tablet, Internet has recently become VERY slow. I contacted my ISP and they said everything on their side is fine, so it has to be on my side...

What can cause this? I've checked for Malware but the fact that both the tablet and Laptop has slow internet points to the router. I also flushed my DNS on my laptop and booted into safemode with networking, internet still ridiculously slow...

Note, both the laptop and tablet travel with me and did connect to other networks sometimes

Any Suggestions?

Thank You

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

How I fixed my connection problem.

With Netgear DG834GT and TalkTalk, my connection stayed up for Half Hour to an hour before it fell over. Only a router restart would get the internet up again. Also, when the internet went down, the ' i ' light went out. Also had a similar problem with the TalkTalk supplied router.

Was previously with SKY and had the same problem with their supplied DG834GT router.

Complained to TalkTalk constantly, finally sent their engineer, who did not find the problem within the first half hour as the connection is always up, but engineer said he would say the connection dropped while he was there so that a BT Engineer could come out.

BT Engineer came out twice and could not find problem as well. On the second visit, engineer got exchange to test from exchange to the DG834GT and all was OK. Gave TalkTalk an update that the problem still exists. However after the BT engineer finished his testing, noticed the ' i ' light on the router stayed up even when the connection went down.

Tried the TalkTalk wired router again and noticed this time the connection stayed up, but same problem with the DG834GT.

SUMMARY

I borrowed my brothers DG834GT which he is using on UKONLINE at his home and works without problem. Suprisingly, this identical router worked fine on my connection on TalkTalk and UKonline. However, my original router worked fine on his UKONLINE service, but did not work well on my TALKTALK connection. When I was with SKY, I d... Read more

Has this issue just started? Or has it never worked? How many other devices do you have on the BT line. ie. No of phones? Fax's. Is this device connect to the master BT connection? Filters are installed on other connected equipment? If possible. Disconnect eveything possible to reduce possible causes. I have same Router and have no problem. So, at least we know that the router does work with talktalk. Are you able to login to the admin pannel on the router? If so can you provide the firmware version Under >Maintenance>Router Status.

We have always had the cable modem and Netgear router near each other (with computers nearby as well.) Now we want to set up our computers in another room. We want to leave the modem where it is, and relocate the router near our computers, which are not wireless. Doing it this way means there will be only one cable running room to room. Will this compromise our internet speed? I am assuming the 50 ft line from modem-to-router will not affect the speed.

I have just recently had installed a sky satellite along with the sky+hd service. The sky+hd box is connected to a phone extension line via a filter. All other extensions have filters installed. I have a digital phone connected to the same extension as sky via a second filter. Both filters go into a splitter. Since this has been done I can no longer connect to AOL. I can sometimes connect to the internet via IE but cannot load any web pages apart from those with very few graphics - and loading is excruciatingly slow. If I disconnect the sky+hd box everything is fine. If I leave the sky+hd box connected, switched on but don't switch the Panasonic TV on everything is still fine. The TV is connected to the sky+hd box via an HDMI cable. I am on a BT line, more than 5 miles from the exchange, and according to BT my max available speed is 256k!! I have run broadband speed checker and it gives me download speeds of 464k and upload of 213k. My router is a netgear dg834g and I am running windows vista (SP1 I think).
Any ideas out there? Could it be a bandwidth problem?
thx

I don't seem to have 'edit' option yet - maybe because I just joined forum yesterday - so will reply to my own post.
Solution - use TWO filters between extension socket and Sky+HD box. Found this solution on another forum and it works. Apparently using a better quality filter at the main BT socket also works ie. one of those which replaces the faceplate and filters all extensions.

Hi - my first post so please be kind. I have searched for a previous answer, but similar ones all seem more complex problems than mine!

I am running XP on my PC and connecting to the Internet with a Netgear 54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Modem Router DG834G v3.

Most of the time it is fine (and it also runs a second PC upstairs through the wireless network OK).

Then about once or twice a day, the Internet light goes from green to orange, flashing on and off for about 10 seconds, then off altogether for a few seconds, then flashing orange again and so on. At this point if I click on the Internet connection symbol in the bottom right hand corner of the screen (task tray?) it tells me I am connected, but with no speed, and I can't access any websites.

If I try the connection diagnostics in XP, it tells me to check the wires, turn the modem off and on again, but when that doesn't work just tells me to contact my ISP.

Each time this has happened I have tried re-booting the PC, and tried turning the power to the router/modem off for a few minutes and back on, no luck, and then eventually, for no apparent reason, the link seems to recover itself and I am back online. (This morning it took about 30 minutes)

We get our Internet through overhead telephone wires (no cable out here in the sticks) and the best speed I ever show on teh connection status screen is 2.5Mbps, but often much less.

I suppose my real question is this: Is the problem likley to bewith my Router/modem? Or is ... Read more

As of last friday, I had a xbox 360 that worked fine with this router. But, my Xbox crashed, so I bought a used one. When I plug it in to my router with an ethernet cable, the light shows on the port for a little while then resets. This creates a disruption, and the xbox wont connect. It fails the very first network test. I tried different cables, that didnt work. However, if i plug the same ethernet cord into my laptop from the same port on the router, the laptop still gets internet and the connection does not drop.
Also, I plugged the xbox directly into the modem and THIS worked. So, its not a faulty ethernet port on the xbox. I tried port forwarding the ports that are recommended to open on the router and i tried resetting the router and modem multiple times.
Nothing changed on the router between xboxes, and I know I have at least covered all the basics. A friend told me I may be able to try turning off Mac Address Filtering, but I dont know how to do this on my NetGear wgr614 v5 router.
Anybody have any ideas whats going on? The weirdest part is how it will connect, and the light is lit up on the port the xbox is plugged into, but then when i run a test the lighht goes out and the test fails. Its like the router is kicking the xbox off or keeps resetting that connection.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I have 7 devices connected to my Netgear Router 600/3700v2 and the devices keep disappearing. I believe I have found the solution. Connect to your Netgear Router (you will see BASIC and ADVANCED options) and select the ADVANCED settings. Click the tab below ADVANCED SETTINGS and in the drop down menu select UPnP. You will see on the top of the screen ADVERTISEMENT TIME TO LIVE - this setting DEFAULTS TO "4" which is okay for "normal" home use (well, it didn't work for me). This setting is what controls your attached devices. If you keep losing them, try increasing the settings until they remain visible. I tried 5 first - no go. Then I tried 8 and I haven't lost the devices since. Hope this works for you!

I just tried updating the firmware on my Netgear WGT624 that I've owned for 1.5 years, it hosed it! According to their web site, the only thing that can be done is either hold the reset button for 30-60 seconds or if that doesn't work, you need to buy a NEW router.

Warranty is only good for one year, now I'm stuck with the cost of having to buy a new router because of owning it 1.5 years. I upgraded with THEIR upgrade, which hosed the router, now they want me to buy a new one. Good way to build those sales numbers I guess. THEIR "upgrade" hosed MY router and I have to pay? I'm not happy about that and I've questioned them on it. Netgear is now deleting my posts because I point out in no uncertain terms that this is...let's say, not right.

I had nothing but problems with the setup since I got it, they would not do anything to fix it. I was constantly losing my connection and having to reboot the router. It was not due to local interference (like a 2.4ghz phone), I believe it was because it would get so hot. Apparently this was a known issue, but Netgear already had our money, so Caveat Emptor seems to be their feeling on the matter.

Thought everyone should know what they'd be dealing with if they have a problem with their Netgear products.

Looks like Linksys is the way to go! DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR NETGEAR ROUTER, IT COULD BE THE LAST TIME YOU USE IT!

As soon as I plug them in with a wired connection they work. The router is a Netgear N900 with the latest firmware upgrade. Both he 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz connections are set to use wpa2 aes authentication. Even when the ping shows a general failure, the router logs show an access denied message for the Mac address that attempted the ping. When I switch to security none connections work fine. Does your adapter have the latest drivers?
Is this wifi?
Do other computers have this problem, or just this one?
What is your adapter?

Yep, please fill out specs first.

Hi,
I just connected a Netgear DG834G Router to my system and after a little difficulty with IP addresses etc. got it going. The only problem is I don't seem to be able to log into either my yahoo or hotmail account. I get to the account name and password screen and then it justs hangs. Any suggestions on possible router settings which might be giving me an issue? I've never set up any security settings for routers before so it could be something simple. Probably. Hopefully.
Many thanks,
eVIL R
After trying altering MTU values etc and setting firewall rules with no sucess, in the end I powered off my router for about a minute and rebooted my PC. Now I have no problem connecting. PC's - gotta love 'em. Thanks for the help anyway JonathanAnon.

A:Solved: Netgear DG834G router, fine except no yahoo or hotmail login possible

No yahoo or hotmail, eh?

Not sure about this, as you dont give a lot of details, but off the top of my head this sounds like SSL (Secure Socket Layer) may be blocked at the router. Can you get into another other secure sites, i.e. Paypal, ebay, amazon etc etc.

Oh yeah, if you find that this is the case (and you cant access ANY secure sites) open your router "Control Interface", probably through your Internet Browser, and configure the router to allow TCP traffic out on port 443 (SSL).

Let me know how you get on.

regards,
Jonathan

My internet works fine with the wire from modem directly connected into the laptop but when the wire from modem is connected to the router, I am not able to access the internet.
I tried to make my laptop (Running windows 7 64 bit os) as the router and i can easily access net on my other devices.

I thought there is a problem with my router. So I took my router to my cousins place who has the same ISP provider. And to my surprise ,my router worked perfectly there.
I cannot understand what i can do to fix my problem.
My ISP just provides me the wire , the modem is installed somewhere out. I just get the wire from the modem.

My ISP gives dynamic ip addresses. I have to login in the site portal.beamtele.com every time i connect the wire to my ethernet port of the laptop.
I took the router to my friends place sharing the same ISP with the same package. My router worked fine there.
i brought his Belkin router to my home to check. And at my place, it didnt work.

Having problems connecting to NetGear and Belkin wireless routers, that require WEP password.
The wireless connection sees the router, full strength -5 bars, and asks for the password. After I give it twice, it just sits there and does not connnect.

Tried running update driver, but latest one on sony website is the one I have - from 2005

Running XP Home ed, Service pack 2, up to date.

I have not installed SP3 because of possible conflicts with the AMD cpu chipset, and last time I did it crashed the entire system.

Any help appreacated

Hi there,

I have a broadband connection with Virgin Media and I brought a Netgear Wireless G - Router WGR614 v9 which is connected up and works fine - or at least my vista desktop and iphone connects to it ok.

I have since brought a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook and I just can not connect wireless internet to the netbook. The netbook instead keeps connecting me to a BTOpenzone /BTFONE connection which one of the neighbours must have as its not mine, although even the BTOpenzone comes up low signal and even that doesn't give me an internet connection.

Also I tried login into my router login page so I can add a device using the MAC address like I had to do for my iPhone but I keep getting an error message MAC address invalid although i dont know if this is even required.

I have gone into the dell wireless wlan card utility thing and tried to remove the btopenzone signal but it keeps reattaching itself, i have also tried adding my netgear.

That comes up with connection status - authenticating and at the bottom client ipv6 address not availiable (dont know it that should read that)

I am going out of my mind now, been trying stuff for days - i dont know what else to do

Please help, many many thanks
Pretty please any advise is much appreciated. Thankyou for any help in advance

Just wondered if anyone can sort a problem i have which is strange, yesterday i bought a brand new
NETGEAR DGND3700 Wireless ADSL Router-N600, Dual Band router/modem
when i installed it all it wont detect my internet ( i'm on plusnet fibre ) if that's any help, when i launch my browser and go inside the router by network genie it wont detect the internet, it keep's saying there's no dsl cable plugged into the adsl port (which it is) everything is connected up properly, ive followed all the instruction's as well, does anyone know what it could be?

A:Solved: Netgear N600 router/modem wont detect my internet???

Default font size is much less unpleasant on the eyes.

I've never heard of an ADSL modem or modem/router used with fiber optic. You really have some device that "translates" between the fiber and 2-wire phone cable? Why would you even want to do that?

Hi All

Recently purchased an Amilo Li1718 running Vista Premium. On trying to connect wirelessly to my Netgear WGT624 v3 I can see all the details of my wireless network (signal strength etc.), if I drop the channel number from 13 to 11, and disable WEP, but cannot connect at all no matter what I try.

I have no problems connecting with a different (DELL) laptop running XP and a Belkin wireless adapter, and I can do the same (connect) with the Amilo. However, I'm at a loss to find a reason and resolution to the lack of connection using the Atheros WLAN AR5007EG device which comes with the Amilo - I don't think it's faulty as it "sees" the wireless network, and others, OK

I've updated the Amilo WLAN driver, tried a few registry tweaks etc. etc. etc. but have had no luck at all.

Can anyone offer any advice on how I might be able to get the Amilo to connect to the WGT624? I've posted on other forums (Amilo, Fujitsu-Siemens who make the Amilo) but no luck at all. And this lack of connection problem with Vista to a wireless network seems to be problematic from what I've seen on the web (anyone confirm?).

I can't provide anymore details about the Amilo setup as I'm at work, but could post back later if someone is kind enough to answer this query. Apologies if I've missed something obvious, but I've been trying to connect for 1 week and have had no luck at all.

Hi everyone !

Last night I set up a home network for a friends house using a NETGEAR DG834G wireless router. The desktop is connected to the net through the ethernet cable no probs, and my laptop connects to the router wirelesly no problem in every room in the house.

Problem is my friends laptop which is a Compaq Presario (I forget model) cannot find the router. Instead it finds all the neighbour's routers ?!?!? even with the laptop sitting next to the router there is no detection. It is about one year old and running XP. On the Windows network setup it says the wireless chip on the Compaq is a Broadcom 802.116/g

I use Intel PROSet/Wireless to connect to it using my laptop, but my friends laptop has something called HP Wireless Assistant, which has basically no options other than telling you that the wireless technology is turned on.

I have turned off firewalls etc but it will not find the NETGEAR router ?

Any help greatly appreciated.

So here is my case:

SETUP:

Verizon's Westell 6100:
Modem/Router, provides 1 incoming address (provided by VZ) and provides 1 internal address (192.168.1.1).

Netgear Wireless Router WGT624 v4:
Wireless Router, accepts 192.168.1.1 and provides 10.0.0.X wired and wirelessly.

Problem:
Although Verizon's Router indicates that it is on Bridge mode, the damn thing isnt. I thought the main concept of bridging was to become practically invisible and automatically reroute all traffic to the next device, which is what I want.
I want to ultimately use the Netgear device to set all my rules and settings, instead, I have to do it on both.
For instance, Xbox Live is not working 100% properly. I can only play video games without being able to join specific games, or perform any in-game video/voice chat.

I have tried NATing the device. No luck.
I have also tried setting the Netgear device as a Wireless Base Station. Either way, I just would like to have my network ignore 1 device, and have the second one invisibly reroute all the access.

Is that possible? Could you please help?

Thanks to all!

A:Netgear Wireless Router and Westell Modem + Router = Routed Bridge failure

Well, since the "modem" is supplying a private IP address, it's obvious that it's not in bridge mode, that can only happen with a NAT layer, aka a router.

Try this solution to configure it for bridge mode, direct from Verizon: http://www22.verizon.com/residentialhelp/highspeed/networking/setup/questionsthree/123756.htm

I have been trying to find a way to connect, forward the signal, recieve the signal from my Verizon Fios wireless router up to my WGT624 V3 Netgear router.

Is there a way that I can modify my wirless port on my Netgear to recieve a signal wirelessly from my Verizon Wireless router?

My Neighbor did it once with another wireless router, but he can not remember how he did it. I am thinking it had something to do with the Firmware.

If anyone can help me with this that would be great.

I'm basically trying to push the wireless signal from my Verizon router in my basement, up to my wireless Netgear router which is recieving the signal on the main level so that I can plug my wired (non wireless) laptop into the ethernet port which is receiving wireless signal from the Verizon router in the basement in order to gain access to the internet.

Can this be done with the equipment listed above and or some additional firmware and configuration?

Thank you for all your assistance on this in advance.

The easiest way is to run the CD that should have come with the Router, if you havent got it then you will have to configure it manually.

Full instructions can be found on the netgear website here.

I have Qwest/CenturyLink DSL, and recently replaced the Actiontec M1000 modem which crapped out after 5 years of service. Replaced it with a Netgear DM111PSP v2 router/modem. Now I cannot get either of my two routers, the Linksys WRT54G or WRT160N V2 to broadcast wireless internet. I've spent the most time on the WRT160N. It will broadcast a wireless signal, but devices that attempt to connect to the internet time out while "obtaining IP address". BTW, I just happen to have two wireless routers on hand, I only need one to work.

I can get internet through the hard wire connection. I have the Netgear modem hooked up to the "internet" port of the WRT160N router, and the computer is connected to one of the four ethernet ports on the back of the router. I can access both router and modem setup pages using this setup. The Netgear modem is set up for DHCP server, PPPoA encapsulation, and gets its DNS address dynamically from the ISP. The WRT160N is also set up for automatic DHCP configuration. These are the settings given by running each set up wizard, and this has set me up for some DHCP conflicts.

I think that setting up a dual modem/router in transparent bridging mode (PPPoE) in theory turns off the DHCP, allowing the WRT160N to handle DHCP, but I have no luck even getting my hard-wired internet connection to work if I switch from PPPoA to PPPoE mode. Even if I cut the WRT160N out of the loop and connect the computer direct to the DM111PSP. No internet,... Read more

Hi,
I own a business that offers free Wi-Fi to customers. Originally I had the blue linksys wireless G router hooked up to the booster on the roof. At another location, I just got a Netgear wireless N router, and that worked way better than the linksys. So I got another Netgear router, and installed it in the first location- but I'd like to hook it up to the booster. The guy at Fry's said that the Netgear router will not hookup to the booster- I'd have to hook the Netgear to the linksys, disable something on the linksys, and then the linksys to the booster.
So, my question is, how do I do that?

Thank you very much!

After a series of computer and network failures, mostly due to electrical storms and electrical contractors, I decided to upgrade my old Netgear router to a new Netgear Wireless-N router.

I have used Network Magic to manage my networked computers and when I decided to upgrade NM, the new version didn't support my old router. So, it seemed like an all over upgrade/update was in order.

What should have been a simple process-- turn everything off, disconnect the old router, replace it with the new router, and go through the set up process (cable modem on, then router on, etc.) has turned into a mystery.

I used the Netgear startup wizard, followed step by step (more than once) and each time I got to the last part of the process, it stalled saying "No Router Found."
It was only after several unsuccessful attempts, that I decided to open my control panel and check things out. Network Connections showed my status as "connected," so I opened my browser and found that I am able to connect to the internet.

What I have not been able to do is to set up my network, network security, etc. I tried to initiate Network Magic for set up, with the same results-- "no router found."

Anyone know what I have going on here? Am I only connected through the LAN connection, perhaps?

The problem is that the laptop is not picking up a signal from the router, and the router configuration page has no option to "send" a signal for wireless connection. Hello!

I am quite inexperienced regarding networking and wireless networks. Here is my problem:

I have a notebook (Acer Aspire 5101AWLMi with wireless device: Atheros AR5005G Wireless Network Adapter) and a cable internet connection. I bought a Buffalo AirStation WHR-HP-G54 router hoping to get wireless internet connection.

I've put the installation CD in and followed every step in the easy step-by-step installation wizard and (successfully?) got to the point where the installation program opened my default browser (Mozilla Firefox) going for the 192.168.11.1 address. As far as I understand the program was at that time trying to determine the type of my internet connection (Auto detect). After several seconds a message was shown: "server is not detected" and lower: "DHCP Server or PPPoE Server not found". Needless to say my cable connection is working. I had my cable modem and router connected and also the router and my notebook (installation manual advised not using wireless connection during installation).

I've retried several times with no success. At that point I've decided to try out the AOSS function for which I was not sure if my hardware would support it. I've installed a client program from the official router CD and tried to connect with AOSS - unsuccessfully. then I uninstalled the client and left everything for the day. When I next turned on the computer my Atheros Wireless Network Adapter wasn't working any more! ... Read more

However after that my internet connection was cut off. The led lights are still present. However I can no longer detect the router. I can no longer access the configuration utility anymore, and when i unplug the router i get back my connection.

Is there anyway i can kinda do a hard reset ?

Have you tried leaving it unplugged for ten minutes? That will sometime reset routers.
