Solved: Correct setup of DIR-615 router configuration for RDC

Q: Solved: Correct setup of DIR-615 router configuration for RDC

I apologize if I posted this in the wrong section.

I have been trying to achieve a Remote Desktop Connection with my office PC (Host -- Win XP Pro service pack 3) with my wireless laptop (Client -- Win XP Home) at my house.

The RDC works at my office in the LAN, when I have my laptop connected in the office network. However, from my home's LAN, I cannot access the Host over the Internet (WAN).

I have tried to open port 3389 for the RDC in the PortForwarding section on my Office's D-Link DIR-615 router setup and did the same for my home's belkin 54G router at home, under Virtual Server, in that setup.

Has anyone had this type of problem with Microsoft Remote Desktop?

Given: I have an xp32 box that I would like to dedicate to use with my TV.

(My w7 laptop has crappy sound-out, but works, so I have the basic idea. I just plug vga-2-vga, and audio-out of the headphone jack, but the audio is dismal.)

What are the needed components beyond what I have? I want to have wireless remote capability, too, so I guess I need a USB gismo of some sort -- reccomendations? And I will be rolling pocket change if I have to buy anything substantial.

I have high-speed broadband (Comcast), the full range of in/out-puts on the TV; I also have an ATI x800 card/etc not currently installed in this machine --> (I just realized that card has a remote with it... hmmm, maybe all I need is to install the card and I'm done...? Could it possibly be that easy...?

So I have AT&T DSL. I bought a Netgear N300 ADSL2+ Modem/WiFi Router that is compatible with my service.

Previously with this Modem/Router it would constantly drop the wireless connection for the Wii I have that was used to stream Netflix.

So recently I bought a Linksys E2500 Router so I could be able to use the Wii, along with 3 other desktops, 1 laptop, and 3 phones.

My ideal setup would be this:
Set the ADSL2+ Modem/Router to be just a modem (I know how to set the option for this)Connect the Linksys Router to be what all the devices connect to wirelessly (this would serve as the DHCP server)
I have read that one of the Routers has to be set to "BRIDGED" mode, yet I don't know which device has to be Bridged

Hi there,
Recently my laptop broke so I am now currently borrowing a computer from my parents. I have installed a new ASUS PCE-N13 network adapter. My problem is this: The network adapter easily detects my wireless router (full strength) so I click connect and it asks me for my p/w. I type the p/w in and my computer instantly tells me it is wrong. I know full well the p/w is right because I live with 2 other people and they both have laptops which connect no problem.
Any help would be great and much appreciated as to why this is happening!

Hello, I'm an italian guy and I don't speak a good english.
That's my problem:
I've a pc with a "Raid 1" configuration (mirroring) with windows Xp Sp3 and two WD hard disks.
Two days ago, I noticed a red alarm message from my pc: "degraded raid".
After entering in windows xp, my computer recognized a second hard disk, the mirror one.
So I was able to see and modify my first hd (C:, the booting one) and his mirror (E: ), but this last one
had more data than the first one!

I tried to start up my computer with only one hard disk at a time (the other was phisically
disconnected) and windows started normally in both cases. So no hard disk was damaged.
So, I tried only E: hard disk (obviously recognized as C: ) and then C:. Then I attached E: so
my pc had both C: and E: hard disks, but the alert message remained (degraded raid).

Yesterday night I tried one last time to start only with E: and I had no problem. So I shutted down my pc and reattached C:.

This morning I started my computer and the raid configuration was ok (no red error message!), but
I've seen an error message before the windows xp screen: "NTLDR is missing".

What's the problem?
Probably my pc doesn't know from what hard disk start windows xp? Does it have problem to
recognize the boot hard disk?
What I've to do?
1) phisically disconnect one of my hard-disk alternatively? But in this case may I lost my data?
2) delete the raid array? But in thi... Read more

Ok quick question, i currently have 2 Dlink DSL 2640R's networked together and set up correctly, the Master router is assigning DCHP addresses and the secondary is forwarding to the relevant computer thats connected to it.

I have two PC's both connected to the secondary router, which are able to network together and use the master routers internet,

However, my girlfriend is buying a new laptop next week, and wants to be able to stream music from one of my PC's to her Laptop while connected to the Master router (so she isnt affected by any lags due to networking happening between my two pc's i regularly switch files between them, hence the second router)

so 2 questions:
Firstly, am i right in my above statement that if My 2 pc's are transferring via router number 2 router number 1 will serve her with no overlap between the 2?

and Secondly, DCHP is off on the 2nd router, and as far as i can see, the main router see's my pc's and the 2nd router is invisible, so am i right in thinking that her PC will be able to see both my PC's on the 2nd router? or will she just see router number 2? (i read somewhere that some routers see all clients connected to the 2nd router as one IP address and the 2nd router sorts it out when it gets there)

Hello,
I need you help to configure my system.
I want to use my 500 GB SATA WD HDD as Master(Win 7 installed) and 80 GB Samsung IDE HDD as Slave (windows xp installed) and LG IDE DVD writer.

For that I tried following different settings but none of them work.

1) SATA with no jumper + IDE disk with master jumper and IDE DVD writer as slave jumper

2) SATA with no jumper + IDE disk with Cable select jumper and DVD writer as cable select jumper

But in both the situations IDE disk and DVD writer did not detected in BIOS and pc boot with windows 7 SATA.

If I use any two then this combination does work
a) SATA with no jumper + IDE disk with no jumper = Work
b) SATA with no jumper + DVD Writer = Work
c) IDE disk with master jumper + DVD writer without jumper = work.

But I want to use all three hardwares together.

Information :
My motherboard (ASRock -Wolfdale1333-D667) does have only one IDE port.
I am using 80 pin IDE cable (newly bought )

Please help me to configure correctly.

I had a couple of guests over and they were having problems getting online (actually they were on for a day but one laptop dropped) the problem was with the guest laptop itself. While troubleshooting we opened the router as an access point. It gave us a new address for configuration but did not get it all down. It is a Belkin Wireless G router and the previous config address was 192.168.2.1 the new one was 192.168. then 2 0r 1 follwoed by three number sequence I believe starting with 2 (I tried 245 and 254). When I right click on my wireless connection icon and go to properties none of the address work some now start with 70. Is the a way to find the address and if not how do I reset my router?

hello guys,

good day! please i need your help on what to do's regarding wrh54g client configuration. i been setting up today the point of access for its secured network mode with WPA shared key on XP-SP3. tried successfully on a client with windows7 lappy, but then my problem was that my boss want me to set it on a manual mode. i mean, he wanted it that everytime he disconnect the wireless and decide to connect again later he likes to input again the password. but as ive see it everytime i tried to reconnect, the password is automatically inputted already and ready to connect. not unless u click the wpa box and the password will be deleted. boss wanted this kind of setup for security purposes. i hope u can help me on this matter. my other options also were not successful.

all comment and help will be highly appreciated.

A:[SOLVED] please help on WRH54G router client configuration..

Let me say this much. If that were the case with my wireless network, I would be entering my 64 character passkey every time I connected to my wireless network. I could just copy and paste it from a text file, but then what is the point of doing that over just letting the computer save it for me? If your boss wants to make sure his wireless security is strong, his efforts are much better spent doing what I have done by going to the website linked below, copying the "64 random hexadecimal characters (0-9 and A-F)", while using either WPA, or WPA2. The kind of authentication I think he is getting at, is something a radius server would be better at providing, provided your computers were part of a domain.

https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm

In Windows 7, I know it is possible to have it not remember your passkey provided that you do not check the checkbox during the connection setup. My memory is a little off with XP. Does it provide something similar?

I have tried all sorts of combinations of 192.168.x.x, but nothing has worked. Is there a way to figure out the address the Linksys router's configuration page? ...or is there a reason I am unable to access it?

I want devices connected to the router to be able to connect to the modem.

My ISP modem says:
Local IP address 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
DHCP Server: Enabled
Connection mode: DHCP
Starting IP address: 192.168.1.10
Ending IP address: 192.168.1.128
Connected devices: Eth-Switch LAN (2) 192.168.1.12 Netgear WNDR4000 Router

My Router says:
Router Information

DHCP: On

Internet Port

connection DHCP
IP subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Attached devices: 10.0.0.4 HP computer
Use Router as a DHCP Server:yes
Starting IP address: 10.0.0.2
Ending IP address: 10.0.0.254

So how would I modify the settings so the HP computer (10.0.0.4) could see the modem (192.168.1.1)?

Get the wireless router to recognize the Laserjet and assign it an IP address though DCHP.
The laser jet was originally configured on a physical Net Gear Route, thus it has RJ45 ehternet connection. When I connect the laser jet, Dell PC and the Dynex Wireless Router. The wireless network works fine as far as a laptop accessing the network, BUT the router does not recognize the laserjet and does not assign it an ip address. The laser jet had an static address with its old configuration. How do I get the router's DHCP to recognize the laserjet and assigne it an IP address? Let's see if I can explain this.

Ok, so I've installed RealVNC servers on both of my home computers, an XP SP3 Desktop and a Vista SP1 Laptop (that may as well be a desktop as it never moves). I've figured out how to access each of these computers from the other one over the LAN using their individual IP adresses . RealVNC informs me though, that because these computers are behind a NAT router, in order to access them over the internet I will have to point the VNC viewer at my router and forward port 5900 to my computer. I set this up for my laptop by telling my D-Link DIR-625, under the Port Forwarding tab, that the program is RealVNC, the port I need forwarded is 5900 and the IP for my Laptop is xxx.xxx.x.xxx. It worked. I can now access my laptop from anywhere on the net. My problem is that when I try to do the same thing for my desktop I tell the router that the program is RealVNC the port is 5900 and the IP is xxx.xxx.x.xxx and the router tells me that the program name RealVNC has already been used.

I would be much obliged if someone could tell me how I can set up my wireless router so that I have the option of choosing which one of my computers I can control remotely.

Thank you in advance.

I can put in trendnet's ip add. and bring it up but neither firefox, IE, or opera browsers work. I followed JohnWill's guide to making 2 routers get along without fighting over who assigns and IP and who has the connection. I finally got it all working... Here's the current setup:
Router 1 - ISP Provided with internet connection, bad wireless
Router 2 - Netgear, good wireless but a WAN port, not built in modem so is used as a secondary.

Router 1 - 192.168.1.254 - DHCP range 192.168.1.64:192.168.1.253
Router 2 - 192.168.1.1

I got the Linksys Wireless-G (Model WRT54G) Router for Christmas, but I'm having problems with setup. There's a CD with it, and I followed the directions exactly.

(Here are the directions)

1. Unplug your modem's power
2. Unplug the network cable that is currently plugged into your computer.
3. Plug that cable into the "internet" port on your router.
4. Plug the power back into your modem
5. Plug the other network cable into the ethernet port on the computer
6. Plug the other end of that cable into one of the four ports labelled 1,2,3 or 4 on the back of your router.
7. Plug the power adapter into the router, and then plug its' other end into the wall socket.

OK, now here's my problem. The final instruction says that the leds on the front of the router should be on (or at least a few of them) but none are. All cable are connected, all directions have been followed exactly. So... anyone got any ideas why this isn't working?

Thanks in advance.

btw, I am only connected to the web now because I plugged my modem in directly to start over.

I had some good replies to a previous thread (you know who you are!), so the next step looms.

Current set up is a router/modem. connected to a second router from which I run the main computer and a NAS box. Pretty simple, really.

I have 2 routers (~router 2 and router 3) that may be converted to switches (old but still useful) if needed.

NOTE- the network is designed to be wired, but I will also be using a wifi component for those bits n pieces that need it (ipad, phone, couple of quadcopters, cameras,TVs).
Everything is 4 port out .

The plan is to amalgamate everything- I have included a layout as attachment.
Now the questions

1. For the layout do I need to convert any or all of my routers to switches, or will it work as is- bearing in mind that there is likely to be only 1 or maybe 2 items on at the same time, although a possibility of 3 or 4.

2. as a home network, will everything "see" everything else if its on a different router? (mainly anything plugged into router 2 or 3, which is connected to the main hub, being able to use printer/ NAS boxes which are in router 1)?

3. A bit more complicated. I would like to incorporate my other 3D printer into the network, but it only has a USB connector. Is there any way to do this, or do I need to keep it on the local computer? This is just because I end up using the main computer for modelling and slicing (its a lot quicker) then copying to mem stick and taking it to the printer computer (little lappy that does ... I hate resorting to having to make my own post, but I've scoured everything I can trying to find relevant help and have found nothing that has helped... so here goes.

I'm running Vista 32bit.

I'm attempting to hookup Optimum Online internet to a Linksys WRT54G v5. The internet works fine when the Scientific Atlanta DPX2203 modem alone, but when I properly hook up the router, cycle, the usual I cannot for the life of me get the internet to route. The internet light remains blinking, and the Cisco Systems remains orange... I've made sure MAC cloning is taking place, and tried a dozen other things that were probably stupid, and just can't figure out what else I can do. I've updated the firmware. I can get the DHCP to assign an IP address and all... the only strange thing I've noticed is that despite all clearing and resetting DNS and whatnot, the connection-specific DNS suffix is hsd1.ma.comcast.net... I used comcast internet in MA before moving to NY and using OOL.... is the router holding onto this? Windows reports inability to connect to DNS servers, and that can mean a lot of things, but this seemed relevant...

Can anyone help?

Type the following command:

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.

First of all, I just wanted to say thank you for any time you spend with this issue. I appreciate that there is at least a place to go when the manufacturers support system will not recognize the existence of the owner of their product.

The issue:

I have a SMC Barricade WBR14s-N2 router. I am having trouble setting the router up with WPA-PSK encryption. Actually, my problem is that it kicks me off the connection whenever I try to save changes in the set up wizard. Since it kicks me off, I don't believe any settings are being saved properly. In addition, when I have tried to save the changes, the WLAN disappears on the router and I have to use the reset button to "bring it back to life." Very frustrating.

I have an older laptop (Dell Inspiron 2650) with a Linksys Wireless Notebook adaptor, for which I just downloaded the driver for. According to my research, it supports WPA encryption. I am running Windows XP and have downloaded the hotfix driver that enables WPA and WPA2.

I must say that I have successfully configured the router as an unsecured network, but I have been unsuccessful at trying to establish a secured network.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use Cox internet provider and a motorola modem, both of which worked fine with the other router before, so I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with them. I made sure to check and double check my wire connections and everything looks fine there too. I also run Windows 7, which the new router is apparently compatible with, and have deactivated all of my firewalls for this process. I'm able to connect to the network that was setup, but am not able to access the internet through that connection. I've tried this from 2 different laptops and a desktop, using both wireless and ethernet cables, and still nothing. Outside of the installation wizard I've tried fooling with the network settings in the control panel to configure the new device and receive errors varying from "There's a problem with the domain name server configuration" to "unable to write wireless settings to wireless g-router device."

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, as I'd really rather not sit through a call to tech support, but I only have limited access to the internet for the time being. Thanks!

Hi,

I am having trouble setting up a Belkin N1 Wireless Router Modem. I am currently subscribe to Be broadband and have been using the generic wireless router they supply. When plugging in the Belkin router it will do everything apart from connect to the internet. The orange internet symbol flashes on the right side. I have opened up the router setting via my browser but I wouldn't even know where to begin. I understand that switching to a new router from the generic router broadband companies supply can be a pain. Any help about how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I just bought a Powerlink Boost-N wireless router. In an effort to set up the wireless I logged into the web based setup screens by typing the default IP address into a browser. I started the set up process and got logged out of the web site and have not been able to log back in with any IP address. I now do not have internet or network access with a wired connection through the router. I tried to reset the router by holding in the reset button to return to factory defaults. Is there a default way to get back to setup? I have a email into technical support from the manufacturer.

Well I guess this is a little bit tricky. I just bought a new router ( its my first one its a Linksys WRT54GC wireless-G broadband router). So, I folow all the steps one by one, connect the router to the modem, connect the pc to the router, plug the router. I ran the Cd. Set my connection in DHCP, put WEP 128 it security enter my password I click save settings a then it says : Unable to find internet connection, check your Internet settings then it send me in the step were I choose my connection type (PPPoE, DHCP etc..)
Thanks for your support

A:Solved: Router setup troubles

First, you don't need the CD.
You followed all of the steps correctly...until you came to step 4. After you connect the modem to the router and the router to your computer, you have to get a connection from the modem to the router. That depends on the broadband type. The router is configured for a cable modem out of the box. You have to configure it for DSL, since that is what you are using (the point-to-point over Ethernet (PPoE) is what gave you away. That requires you to make the changes your ISP requires (including a password, if necessary)). Once your router has an IP address (hint: it will not begin with 192), you can proceed to securing your wireless connectivity (which, by the way, is disabled by default).

In any case, don't proceed further until your router gets an IP address from the modem.

Courtney sends....

I am going to install a wireless network within my home so that i can share our ADSL internet connection with my Brother who is in his bedroom directly above me. I have found some hardware, but as i am inexperienced i am not too sure if this would do the job?
Please could you check out the links and see if this will work, and/or do i need any additional hardware?
Here are 2 products i have found... would this setup be enough? and would it work...?

In my brothers PC i would have this :

Also, would this be as simple as connecting the hardware and following instructions? or does it need to be done by a professional?

Well i finally bought the hardware to make a small network at home, my sons pc to be exact.

So i goes and buys a netgear rp114 router which was recommended to my by a mate.

I have a 1mb cable modem connection and both pc's are running windows xp pro, and have more or less the same hardware specs. ( xp2100)

Well i sent the son up into the loft to wire up the cat 5 cable, connected the router to the cable modem (wan) then connected the 2 pc's to slots 1 and 2 at the back of the modem.

Switched everything on all lights are on everything seems ok.
So i tried to connect to the internet with my pc, but no connection

So my question can anyone give me a link to a site with a step by step guide to setting up both pc,s so as to share internet connection.

Hi all,

About my internet setup, I receive internet from my ISP via the LAN cable. The IP is static, provided by the ISP. To use the internet, I have to login to their server using a username and password.

Earlier, I did not have a router. So, to see if the ISP server was up, I could just ping the IP of the ISP server from my computer using the command prompt, and it would show whether it was up.

However, since I got a router, I find that I cannot ping the ISP server from the computer directly as before. To ping the ISP server, I have to open the router administration page using the browser, then use its diagnostics feature to ping the ISP server. It shows only a few pings, and is not like the continuous ping that can be seen when you run ping from the command prompt. So, it's difficult to see the pings, and also diagnose. Also, sometimes the router pages do not open and get stuck, even after being refreshed.

Is there any way, or any setting, by which I can ping the ISP server from the command prompt on the computer? Do I have to make changes in firewall settings of computer, or any settings in the router?

Why can't I ping the ISP server directly from the computer?

I am using Windows 8. The firewall of Windows 8 is on, and the hardware firewall on the router is off.

If any more information is required, do let me know

I'm trying to use UltraVNC to set up my office to work from home. I need to set up 8 computers, so I need 8 ports open to access the internet (in case more than one person tries to connect at one time.) I don't use Remote Desktop because half of the computers here are running WinXP Home (don't ask me why, I don't know). I'm working with our "network guy" who set up everything, but he's not really getting back to me. Because of the way the connections are I can't physically go and LOOK at how our setup is, I had to figure it out. This is my idea of what it looks like.

WAN IP – 75.144.XXX.XX
Comcast Modem/Router
LAN IP – I don’t know
|
|
WAN IP – 10.1.10.xx
Linksys Router
LAN IP – 192.168.1.1
|
|
LAN IP – 192.168.1.192-199
Computers in the office

I came up with that because I can log into the Linksys router. However, when I go to my computer's actual external IP address I get a "Comcast Business Gateway" login. Hence, my idea of how things are set up.
If that’s the case, then ports 5900 – 5907, 5800 should be forwarded from the Comcast one to 10.1.10.XX, right? On the Linksys router I already forwarded them all to the right computers which now have static IP addresses. I'm trying to work with our network guy, but he's really unresponsive. I don't think this is a difficult problem, or am I wrong? I guess I just want some input to help me figure this out so I can stop stressing out about it... Read more

First off, let me apologize for mis spellings, this laptop needs a new kayboard badly.

What im doing is setting up a 2nd wireless router to extend wireless network to other half of house and Garage.

My main wireless router is a WRT54G... Nice base model, used for DNS/DHCP and my main network config.

2nd router (in diff room) is a Truemobile 2350 (Piece of junk sold to my parents by dell when they bought a laptop)

Anyways, they are both setup, and both run off different networks. main is 192.168.1.X (x being maker for each machines specific address) and the trumobile runs on 192.168.2.X...

The issue is, each will provide me Internet, but when im on the truemobile, I cannot see shared stuff on my network.

Heres a little "diagram" of how its all connected.

Gateway (actiontec DSL)--WRT54G--Cisco Catalyst(forgot wat series)----Tuemobile.

Any ideas? (This is sad since I majored as a Cisco CCNA for two years :'( )

Hi All
I'm hoping someone out there will be able to help me because I am stuck and confused.

I purchased a new laptop and a Belkin N Router.
I am wanting to plug the router into my wired PC which has Virgin Cable broadband and then use my laptop to wireless access it.

I have read the instructions on how to plug in the various leads and know which goes where and how to boot each one for set up, but that's it!! The problem is...

In the the back of my Vigrin Modem, I have always had a blue ethernet lead and a USB lead that both connect into the back of my PC. Now..I understand from various sources, that I should not need both to connect and only need the ethernet....is this correct?

If so...I have tried unplugging the USB and kept only the blue ethernet in, the router lights up wonderfully and all correctly after that, but my internet connection drops and a message comes up saying it has failed to get connecton or connection is limited. The only way it will work with full connection is with USB lead in...but if I put this is, the router will not work and flashes an orange error light (modem light) instead of a blue.

I have looked in the internet connections and the Lan connection is a USB one..so if thats the problem..how do I change that and get an connection through my ethernet only, for my router to work?

Does anyone know what I need to do to correct this or what I might be doing wrong??

Hi,

I have just bought a D-link dl-614+ wireless router to try to connect my PS3 to the internet. I have just come off the phone to D-Link support team, and I hate them, they are totally useless. The problem is in the initial setup. The manual tells me to open IE, and type in 192.168.0.1, which i did... it asked me for a user name, and password, which i entered according to the manual: username - admin, password : (blank). When i pressed enter, it just popped up again, asking for username and password, as if i had got it wrong. D-link told me to reset the router, which i did, and now when i type the url 192.168.0.1, it comes up as a google search for that number. All the support line told me to do was to 'contact microsoft' - helpful eh? Please can anyone help, because i would really appreciate it. Tar,

I am new to DSL and wireless. Running win 98se on laptop. Just switched to a new dsl service using a d-link router from dial up. Problem is the performance is so inconsistant. Sometimes slower than dial up and many sites stop loading with a few items still not loaded. Attachments download and then stop and then re-start.

My wife's pc with windows xp is doing the same thing which makes me suspect the router settings. I have used my browser IE to look at the DI-524 router settings and changed the MTU to 1452 from the default which the help desk at my ISP suggested I try. He mentioned to check firewalls in the router, but they do not seem to be enabled to me.

At the D-link site they show a download for the DI-524 version C which I have, but don't know if I should sort this first before downloading the update.

Some sites load quickly, some slowly and only part load, some sites seem to just jam up. Something needs tweaking or more.......help appreciated...thanks.

Hello Everyone,

I just wanna ask for some help regarding configuration of a vpn firewall router that is connected to a 4g modem/router combo.
I am new in setting up a vpn and not so much familiar with others things or what setup is necessary, kindly help the poor guy please???

This is what I need:
- I need to connect the VPN FIREWALL router and use its features at the same time connected to the internet ( the VPN FIREWALL will act as the security for the whole network and the 4G modem/router will be the one supplying the internet)
- Need to establish a VPN connection later after the configuration.
- The server and other lan pc's must be accessible outside the local network when connected to VPN (web server, local pc's shared folder and files, etc)

Here's some details that i hope might help:
- I am using a Quanta 1K5 4G LTE modem/router combo
- I am using a Dynamic public IP address,( but this is not a problem because i am using s DDNS)
- My VPN FIREWALL brand/model is Micronet SP881 B VPN FIREWALL router
- Right now i am already connected to the internet using the vpn firewall physical connection is:
4G modem/router-->hub-->VPN firewall router-->PC
my connection is 4G(LAN)-->VPN (WAN) set the connection type to Dynamic IP
-The remote connection and remote access (web server, ftp,RDP) is working fine on the 4G modem/router alone.

I attached some screenshots of the VPN firewall router

from your post, just a little confused,
are the router and modem separate?
[and it IS a wired router, not wireless, right?]
just curiosity, what model router?
.
did you try to just 'reset' everything?
turn everything, modem, router, computers, off,
let set for few minutes,
then power on, one thing at a time,
power on the modem first, if separate,
power on the router, let lights stabilise,
push the reset button on the router,
[usually just push a little recessed button on the back / bottom with a paper clip],
let lights stabilise,
power on a pc,
renew the ip configurations settings,
reboot,
check internet access,
do same to other pc,

Howdy ... I just purchase this older Linksys Wireless Router. I have a wired router hooked up so I can have internet access to my computer in a different room. However the ethernet cable are splitting and the small wires are exposed. So I figure I should get a wireless set up.

I read the instruction and followed the prompts on the given software. I hooked it up as instructed but I have no internet access. I tried to install the software, from the disk provided, but it freezes up showing pictures of what file to go to, but there is no next or back buttons and it just sits there.

I know absolutely nothing about wireless hook up and I just wanted something to give internet access to my second rig without wires. My friend told me this should be plug and play ... but it's not. What am I doing wrong??? I'm trying to hook it up to the rigs in my sig. Thanks for reading my post.

Sorry but I'm a total noob when it comes to this, so here it goes...

I'm using Windows XP. I am typing this through someone's connection, due to the fact that I'm having problems connecting to my Belkin Wireless G Router. I did have access to the main modem page, of 192.168.40.1. I previously had it had the default of 192.168.2.1, but my brother changed it to 40. Nonetheless, 192.168.40.1 used to work, but now it does not.

My brother wanted to connect to a Counter-Strike Source server so he thought by messing around with this main page of the router and by forwarding some ports that he could fix it himself. Not realizing he's a moron, he was able to connect to the Counter-Strike Source server, for about 30 minutes, but suddenly he lost connection to the internet.
It all happened when he turned DHCP server off, changed the lease time from Forever to Half Hour.

http://www.voipmechanic.com/configuringabelkinrouter_files/image006.jpg

After 30 minutes he said the internet connection just went down.

Basically, the IP is somehow lost and I cannot access the internet...and I can't access the Belkin Cable/DSL Gateway Router Setup Utility Page via 192.168.40.2 (which I normally use to go to it)

Hello-

My sympathies on the dullard in your midst.
Why don't you reset the router to factory state? You can either do this in the router settings, or by inserting a paperclip into the little hole on the back of the router for about 10 seconds or so. Then reset up your network the way you had it.

I haven’t had an easy time trying to set my Ativa Wireless G Router up with my verizon DSL Westell 2200 modem.

I followed the Ativa setup wizard the other day and could only get to step 3-Checking the Routers connections. It would stop and say something about not being able to communicate with “the router” I think. I thought it might have been because I have more than one network card in this computer. Anyway it sort of worked regardless. I was able to connect with my laptop and later type in the address for the router and set some of the security stuff up. I was nervous about not knowing anything about the other settings so I looked on Verizon’s site for networking tutorials. I looked at the Linksys one and one of the steps was to get into the westell and change the PPPoe setting to Bridge. I tried that but screwed something up and lost my internet completely. I had to call up and reset my modem. Now the internet is back on but they wouldn’t give me any help with the wireless router. In the mean time the Ativa setup cd got thrown out and I don’t know what to do.

I guess long story short is, is there any way someone can walk me through setting this up without the setup wizard.
Thanks for any advise you can offer.

i can setup my d-link 604 wired router with no probs...but after i have done that then i need to do something in the windows control panel under the network connections icon. i have no clue what to do there to complete the final step in networking my 2 machines. some nfo: 2 new machines with ethernet cards. one is xp home and the other is xp pro. all i want to do is make those 2 machines use the same cable connection...i dont want ics or print/file sharing. i have been told to set up the router then power cycle the devices and magically the 2 machines will begin working. but i refuse to fall into that lame trap. i do format approx every 3-4 months so i will need to know how to do this so i can recover from that activity. each machine has a network connection from its previous service - do i delete this - do i create a new one -must i disable/delete/leave alone original connection icon ??? these are the many questions that i have and i have googled this and can not find any nfo as to what to do, on the windows side, after the router is setup. help, i have been trying to figure this out for approx 2 months and my hardware will be obsolete before i get it, so i appeal for help, mahalo and aloha.

We recently got a laptop (with Vista).
I also purchased a Linksys wireless router model WRT110.

We seem to be having problems making the router to operate..
We currently have a desktop (windows XP). Our modem is a Westell 6100 and we have Verizon DSL.

My question -- will the wireless router we bought work with everything else we have?
Is there a set of instructions we can easily follow to install it? (we followed the instructions on the CD that came with the router but it's not working)

Is there a better router that will work with the modem that we have?

I want to set my computer to the lowest priority so that I can download freely while other people play their online games.
The classification queue is of precedence 8, so it should be lowest and I'm connected using wifi

The only setting I'm concerned about is class interface and ether type.

Other options in class interface are: LAN, WAN, ENET1- 4, pp0/atm0(routed)
Other options in ether type are: IP, ARP, IPv6, PPPoE_DESC, PPPoE_SES, 8865, 8866, 8021Q

A:Is my router's qos setting correct?

Really cannot say yes or no. If you tighten QOS too much, you end up having more issues, than leaving it.

The biggest issue is that most people go with what they can afford, then everyone else wants to use your service for free.

What speed are you paying for, for Download & Upload. Also who is your provider?

It comes a time when you get bored by the usual computer set up (Primary HDD for OS and Backup HDD for all your media).......

Currently I have some unused hard drives lying around so I decided to have some fun.......unfortunately, I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT SETTING UP RAID CONFIGURATIONS......so please start from the basics

1. What hardware do I need?
2. How do I set it up?
3. How do I test?
4. .....Just random but is it worth it? Pros and Cons

Feel free to recommend hardware, I might do some shopping!
Thnx in advance.

A:What do you need to setup a RAID configuration?

1. You need a motherboard with RAID capability or add-on RAID controller
2. I suggest you Google for types of RAID Arrays, and Data redundancy
3. The RAID controller will do this for you. You will have to reload the operating system if you change or add a RAID array drive if you don't use an array with data redundancy.

I have a stripped RAID array with no data redundancy. This is for maximum data access speed. It is made up of 3 500GB drives, giving me 1.36TB single drive. You think it would be 1.5TB, but because of "overhead" the total usable space is 1.36TB. I have a 4th 500GB drive for back up that's not part of the RAID array

hi,

i am going to configure my dream machine. it may not be the top of the line, but that much i can afford.

OS: Win XP Prof 32 bit

PROCESSOR: Core i7 i920 D0 2.66GHz

MOTHERBOARD: MSI X58 Pro

GRAPHICS CARD: Palit GTX260 896MB GDDR3 SONIC or Sapphire HD4850 512MB GDDR3 (which one is better?)

RAM: Corsair TR3X3G-1333 C9 3GB Kit ( can i go for 4 GB ? )

PSU: Corsair TX 650 (is it sufficient? )

HARD DRIVE: Two Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB hard drives in RAID 1

CABINET: NZXT Guardian 921

is my configuration is all right? my goals are playing games, to learn 3ds max, photoshop.

i want to know does win xp support 4GB RAM? some people are saying that it can support max 3 GB ! is it true?

can anyone guide me how to set up RAID 1?
i was going through tutorials & mobo manual downloaded from MSI website. they are saying i have to put RAID drivers in a floppy from where i should install. but nowadays cabinets do not have a floppy drive & i'm in no mood buying so. so what should i do?
should i configure hard drives in bios to RAID before installing windows? or i can do that later on?
lots of question. don't know whether i picked up right forum category.
many many thanks to all of you. i can proceed whenever i will get green signal from you all.

"Setup cannot set the required windows XP configuration. This indicates an internal information setup error. Contact your system administrator."

Then when i press F3 to quit setup, the comp restarts and there are just 2 options on screen to choose..
1. Microsoft windows XP
2. Microsoft windows XP profesisonal Setup

the problem is, the setup is always selected..and i CANNOT move up to select the microsoft windows xp option to start windows normally. when i press arrow key the num lock lights up and thats it...after the 5 sec countdown the setup is chosen and it asks me to put the XP CD in the drive.

i tried setting the first boot device to CD-ROM ..but i dont get the R(repair) option..it always has only 2 options...F3 to quit and Enter to continue setup (which doesnt complete and i get the above error).

so, what on earth can be wrong here? how do i get rid of these messages and start windows normally. I don't know if this is possible, but this is what I want to do:
Have the dsl modem router and linksys voip connected together.
I want the voip router to assign dhcp and the dsl modem router to
be used to get internet access but not assign dhcp (I think)

This is why I want it:

I have 8 wireless linksys cam's configured through the voip router.
Setting the cam's to the modem router didn't work well because of
AT&T's firewall cannot be disabled, only modified to open ports. It's frustrating as when I opened the ports for the cam's, a consistant "an unknown error has occured". So I opted to just set up the cams on the linksys router as the cams are also linksys as well. Thus, figuring they would communicate better anyway.

This is my problem:

When I connect the dsl modem router to the
WAN port on the linksys router, the dsl modem assigns it
a fixed LAN ip. What I want is the linksys router to pull a WAN ip so I can log into my cam's remotely from my laptop at home.
No matter what I do, disable dhcp on linksys router, set linksys router on the dsl modem router to DMZ, set linksys router to bridge mode.....
nothing seems to work.

All I want to do is configure the linksys router so that when I go to my internet explorer on my laptop and type in "99.xxx.xxx.xx:1024 to connect to the cam's. But when I go to linksys router config. pages to see the status, the internet ip is 192.168.1.64 which is a LAN address assi... Read more

Here's my problem... I have a wireless router (1st router, Linksys speed booster), which is connected directly to the internet. From one of it's LAN port, a 50 ft ethernet cable is connected to the 2nd router's WAN port (Vonage 2 phone plug router, Linksys). From the 2nd router's LAN port, a network printer is connected. Now here's the problem, because my laptop connects wirelessly to the 1st router for internet access, how do I print and see any devices connected to the 2nd router? I can't seem to connect to the printer in anyway through this setup. There has to be a way. I can not eliminate the 2nd router because it's my vonage device phone. It requires internet. I also can't relocate the printer because it needs the vonage device for fax. Let me simplify the current setup through a series of descriptive connections.

INTERNET---->>>-------(WAN)-1stRouter-(LAN)------>>>--------(WAN)-2ndRouter-(LAN)------>>>--------(PORT)NetworkPrinter.

Can somebody help me?

A:How 2 setup a netwrk prnter that cnnects 2 a router which is cnnected 2 anther router

If you put the VoIP router first, you can connect the second router as follows. The problem is that you have the NAT layer of the second router between you and the printer.

Connecting two SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

This procedure bypasses the routing function (NAT layer) and configures the router as a switch (or wireless access point for wireless routers).

Hey everyone,

I came to you because what Im experiencing using my current installation of Windows XP is completely out of my league, and Id really appreciate your help on this once since its something thats been bothering me for a year.
Windows XP:s (in finnish) 32bit home versions are really hard to come by, so Im planning on running this one until its unbootable.
On the same computer Ive installed Windows XP 64bit professional (English) to bypass some of these problems, but I feel like they are getting worse.
I only recently realized what the problem MIGHT be.
At first, I experienced problems running games (black screens and so on), and deducted that the problem was with my graphics card drivers (I had been fiddling around with them earlier), but was unable to install ANY of the drivers (including older versions or even trying to run it straight of the install discs).
At some point I tried to update my XP, but it starts hanging on the "Detecting OS" -part, before showing updates that would be relevant to me.
I thought this problem was completely unrelated, and tried to search for an answer but never found one.
After this I started having problems installing anything. At some point I thought it was a problem with windows installer, and used the lovely "Dial a Solution" to fix it. It appears theres nothing wrong with that either.

As you can see, there are no speaker setup configuration options. There isn't "setero" or "5.1" or anything... How do I force Windows 7 to use Stereo Speakers?

I've uninstalled my realtek drivers and let windows 7 install the drivers, yet I still get no options for audio channels. There is also only the green jack plugged into the computer.

If I use the realtek audio drivers, when I go into those settings and try to set it to stereo, when I quit and open it backup, it automatically sets it to 8CH.

Thank you for any help.

Hi Guys,

I have been racking my brain with this issue for about 5 Hours now and am no further forward.

First my network Setup:

Sky Broadband UK 14.5Mb (ADSL2, not fibre)
Sky Hub SR102 with Wifi turned OFF
D-Link DIR655 A5

So the issue is:

When I connect to my wifi a few times per day I get the message on Windows 7 saying No Internet Access with the exclamation mark.

I have done ipconfig /all and the connection looks fine from there. I have tried nslookup during try this period and it does not resolve. Both on Google DNS and Sky's DNS.

Also if I try to connect to the router (192.168.1.1) or the Hub (192.168.0.1) niether appears to respond which to me indicates a loss of signal but surely in that case I should be recieving the message with the astericks on my wifi instead?

Please help, I'm at the end of my tether with this one?

http://192.168.1.1 usually works better with the http part. Although I have the DIR-655 and it's gateway IP is http://192.168.0.1

Perhaps if you can explain which one you were using for the gateway.

The IP will change when you set only one to be the gateway with DHCP being turned off for the other devices.

I am desperate, any help will be truly appreciated!

I have read through MANY discussions that get close to what I am experiencing, but nothing that seems to be exactly my issue.

I am the original owner with ALL original info and CD's that came with the machine, but the extremely rude individual at our local Dell store laughed at me and told me to "just buy a new one" He maintained that I would save money as compared to the charges I would incur if I had them fix it.

Here is the issue:

I have NEVER had any passwords whatsoever on any portion of the system, and have formatted and started from scratch several times in the past with no issues whatsoever. In attempting my most recent reinstall of Windows XP Pro, it came to my attention that somehow my boot order had changed and was no longer booting from the CD Rom drive first. Perplexing, but no biggie, knew just how to remedy that issue....or so I thought. Upon entering setup to update the boot order I learned that my "Configuration setup - Disabled" It is showing that there is now, for the very first time ever, an administrator password on the machine that I have never set, and I am not even allowed access to try to crack it.
After getting the proverbial F-You from Dell I took matters into my own hands and started asking around. I was given a file to burn to a CD, told to remove my hard drive, and hit F12 when starting up to enter the Boot Menu to choose the CD Rom Drive and run the prog... Read more

Since you are unable to boot, it will be difficult to help you.
Wait until you are rested, and relaxed, then take a look at your BIOS and setup, using F2 and F12.
There you will find ways to change the setup.
You may have damaged a ribbon cable to the hard drive, or it may not be properly connected, or the drive is worn out.
The reason the store laughed at your computer is the memory is expensive and inadequate when maxed out... But the 8200 itself is a decent computer for everyday work.
Take some time with a strong light to clean out the dust and dirt, then trace down all your computer cables so you can get the right cable to the correct spot.
Disconnect everything but the memory, the hard drive, and the power supply as a start so you don't have so many things to figger out... Then once it is working, we can help with the improvements.

All of the connections have IP Address based upon the 192.168.0.xxx. All of the computers on this router, except for one of the printers and the data storage server, are DHCP assigned IP addresses.

We have a D-Link Wireless router attached through the Linksys Router with an assigned IP Address of 192.168.10.1 that we use for wireless access/hard wire access in the office for anyone that comes in and needs to have access to the internet or our data storage and printers.

I can connect a laptop wirelessly or wired to this router. The computers can browse the internet and see any computers on the network, but cannot connect to any. Specifically the data storage server. I am not too concerned with the laptops connecting to the desktops connected to the Linksys router, but I need them to connect to the data server especially and have the ability to print to at least one of our printers.

Any suggestions? I know that it's probably something really simple that I am missing or doing wrong, but I just can't put my finger on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Ok, this isn't about any problems or anything, I just want to get your suggestions. My brain hurts from other things and just isn't functioning right now.

I currently have two 40GB HDs (let's call them disk0 and disk1) and one 80GB (disk2). The 80 gigger is hooked up to my Promise Ultra133 TX2 controller.

Partitions at present:
Disk0:
14.65GB- C:, basically just OS, MS crap, and programs that didn't allow me to specify install path.
22.62GB - E:, program installations
Disk1:
Nothing at this time - empty
Disk2:
25.72GB - D:, data files, pics, downloaded files, etc
48.83GB - F:, backups

The end result of whatever I do will most likely NOT be what is listed above.

Now, I have had these drives/partitions in numerous different configurations, none of which I've been happy with.
What I really wanted to do was setup RAID1 (ASUS P4C800-Deluxe has onboard raid.). For this, I will need to use the two 40s (and, yes, I know I would have to destroy what is currently on Disk0). Here's my dilemma... what about the Disk2?
The most important thing for me is my Data (I think) so it would make sense to include this in the raid. But not having my OS and Programs as part of the raid doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me personally because I'd have to reload it all if the drive were to crash and that's kinda the point of having a raid1 to begin with - not having to do that.
40GB is obviously not large enough to use for everything (OS, Data, and... Read more

Since many of us use Comodo IS, i decided to create this thread to share our skills of CIS, indeed some of us don't have the knowledge to tighten CIS by themselves without hampering their system. I hope this thread will help.

Note: Only People used to CIS and having their configuration running for a long time without issues should post their configuration settings here.

This thread is for HELPING beginners with CIS, not showing off the most secure settings while the system is totally non-responsive.

You will display ONLY your settings/tweaks.
Your config post should inform (in your opinion) which kind of users your config is oriented.

For example "Paranoid Mode" is obviously not made for CIS beginners

Feel free to use the template below i made for myself.

UMBRA CIS' SETTINGS (30/11/2015)

Targeted CIS Users: advanced/expert skilled users, Paranoid users.
Reason: HIPS activated on Paranoid, Auto-Sandbox rule customized, FW on custom, Trusted vendor List customized
Advices: Use Training Mode for some days is recommended.

My setting are for the moment what i recalled from those i did from previous versions, they are a good compromise between security and usability, not much popups except for the firewall (i liketo know what is going out).

i could tighten this more but i will test various possibility in long term , so this settings will be surely modified.

WARNING ! Comodo is no joke. Improperly configuring Comodo Internet Security can result in a "Black Screen"\Unbootable System!

The CIS configuration below should only be attempted by someone who thoroughly understands the basics of how Comodo Internet Security functions. It is NOT intended for the new user\beginner nor uninformed\inexperienced experimentation!

To learn how Comodo Internet Security works, start out with the configuration that is installed by default.

Afterwards, the vast majority of typical users can switch to and be very well protected by Proactive Security configuration with default settings.

I learned by reading the User's Manual, a lot of online research, lots and lots of practice with CIS, and participating at MalwareTIps. It took a lot of time and effort. It is quite worthwhile.

When I started with Comodo I knew absolutely nothing. If I can do it... you can do it...

Hello all.

Today I turned on my computer and my antivirus, "avast", was not working. The recommended actions for it was to repair it, or to make sure your system is updated. I tried repairing, no luck. So I went to the windows update page through the start menu, and installed the " .net framework 3.5" update. After it was completed, my system restarted by itself. When it booted back up, I got a black screen saying "setup is checking system harware configuration", this message is up for 1-2 seconds. Then the message is gone, and I'm left with a black screen and a headache. I waited for some time, but nothing happened. I rebooted again and the same thing happened, so I decided to reboot from my Windows XP cd, and reinstall windows, but the same thing happened, except there was a "press any key to boot from cd" message. I pressed a key, but it took me to the same black screen and "setup is checking hardware configuration" message. This process was repeated at least 10 times. I tried to take out some of my RAM, 2 out of the 3, but the same thing happened.

So what could it be, corrupted HDD, RAM, is from microsoft?

Any ideas?
Thanks a loooot guys.

I am attempting to set up servers for various games on my PC. The only problem is the my system connects to the internet through a (wireless) router and others (non-LAN) cannot connect to me. I have read many articles on opening router ports and configuration settings but it is all too confusing for me to figure out and i dont want to screw up my low-latency connection! Does anyone know how to make this work?

Go here
and find your router and it has good instructions to set up port forwarding. They might even have the game you use listed.

I am trying to configure my router so that it will play Asheron's Call. I went onto portforward.com and my router is Linksys WRT54Gv6. I go to the default IP address for configuration and when it asks for my password/username, none of the ones that were given (i.e. blank or admin) work in any combination. I was wondering if anyone would know how to find out this information for this model/version or if there is another way to port forward the ranges 9000-9001, 9004-9005, and 9012-9013? Thank you!

I currently use a router with my isp connection through the cable provider in my area .The problem I am experiencing is when the computer is plugged DIRECTLY into the cable modem provided by my isp, bandwidth(via speed test) is at expected speeds .
(cable modem is a thompson dhg574)

HOWEVER once the router(dlink DLR-645) is plugged in to the cable modem the bandwidth essentially cuts in half (@7mbps)or more of the 20mbps service I subscribe to.

I know that the router can be successfully configured because it was set up in the past but I no longer have the information to do it anymore.
