My Wireless Connection is Turned OFF!!!

Q: My Wireless Connection is Turned OFF!!!

I have a Compaq Laptop, Presario F500, and i've had it for approximately over 2 years... When i first got it of course everything worked and was fine. First and foremost, my problem is that my laptop will not register any wireless connections, and despite the wireless switch being turned on, instead of the color BLUE showing, indicating the laptop can connect wirelessly, (not a word lol) the actual color that is showing is AMBER despite my constant battles with it. Therefore, i cannot connect wirelessly to the internet. And my computer runs slow even though i've done a disk cleanup and a disk defrag. I have an external hard drive and i've taken almost everything off and put it on that, but that seemed to not do anything really. I called Microsoft to help and they knew the problem and how to fix it immediately!!! but at the end of saying all of that, they way talking about charging me $139.99.... I said < no thanks > . lol i previously had Norton Antivirus and all that good stuff. (Symantec and whatnot) but i took that off because of the subscription being expired, thinking that was part of the problem. And i installed McAfee. Idk if i should've did that or not but i did. but I'm looking for some more help and if anybody can find it in their heart to try and help me... Because i've been having this problem for over a year and have been trying to fix it myself. And i KNOW it's possible, but i just need some guidance is all... So if you know what to do, can u please contact me so we can figure this thing out?!?!? i'm willing to explain in further detail if what i described doesn't suffice. I greatly appreciate ALL (but accurate) IMPUT!!!!! THANK YOU!!!

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-CS110D and recently just shut down my computer to let some Windows updates install. After turning my computer back on my wireless stopped working. My wireless switch is turned on and its green... its able to turn on the bluetooth but not the wireless. I've tried diagnosing the problem but my laptop just says that the wireless is not turned on.

I've looked around online and it seems like there's a problem with the updates. I've tried the suggestion here:

http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-28820-wireless-switch-problem

where it says to delete the third party LAN in the registry but I do not see any third party (or I just don't know what they look like)

Another suggestion I found was a system recovery but I'm iffy to do a full system recovery.. does anybody have any detailed instructions to just recover my wireless adaptor driver or any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Happy New Year to one and all.

The problem I have is as follows.

In our household, we have 4 machines connecting wirelessly to our Belkin Modem Router until recently (couple of months).

2 machines are on Vista and have no problems whatsoever when turning on and then connecting with the router and accessing E-Mail & Internet.

The other 2 machines have a problem. When the users turn their machines off and then turn back on and try to access E-Mail and Internet they can't. So I invariably do a repair or down the router and manage to get them using the E-Mail & Internet. Things work fine then until they switch off their machines.

Both machines are running on XP Pro SP3 and both machines run fine once the connection is repaired.
First machine spec
Intel Dual core, 4gb memory, 320 gb HD and connecting to the router via a Belkin USB wireless adaptor
Second machine spec
P4, 1gb memory, 40gb HD and connecting to the router via a Belkin USB wireless adaptor

The 2 machines that work great as I say are on Vista, one connecting to the router via a Belkin USB wireless adaptor and the other (Laptop) has an internal wireless card.

This is a recent situation, and I have been working with Belkin (who have been great, so please no comments there ), to try and see what the problem is.

2 days ago we changed the Preferred and Alternate DNS Server properties for the Internet Protocal (TCP/IP) (Properties, General tab), as Belkin thought that it might help stabalise the issue. H... Read more

Ive got a wireless router.
Into that router I have 2 normal LAN cables connected.
1.- LAN-cable goes to a printer
2.- LAN-cable goes to a stationary PC
In addition I have a laptop that connects "wirelessly" to the same router mentioned above.

Every time I turn the stationary PC or/and printer ON the laptop "looses" temporarily the connection to the internet.
So in short words the wireless connection interrupts each time a system connected by cable is turned ON.

The wireless interruption lasts some seconds, and then the laptop re-establishes the wireless connection automatically.
I'm wondering if it's possible to avoid these interruptions, cause their really annoying. Is this hardware related? Is there a setting that can to be changed in order fix this issue?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

A:Wireless connection interrupts each time LAN-connected system is turned ON

Sounds like a faulty router to me. That is not normal behavior. If it has error logs you might want to review it/them.

I have a pc desktop, pc laptop, and a Macbook. ATT DSL is my IPS, and the router is a D-link DI-624 v. C, and it has the most recent firmware.

I can be on my Mac for hours, and when I turn on my desktop PC, the Mac gets kicked off the wireless network within minutes.

Is it the router?

Don't think it's the Macbook, as I have no problems at hotspots.

I have a problem with two of my personal laptops, but not mine or my husband's work laptops. I have a Dell laptop and he has a Toshiba. Mine has Windows XP and his has Vista. So when we are trying to connect to the wireless router sometimes on my computer the internet says wireless turned off, turn back on to connect. But it's not off, at least I didn't turn it off and I can't turn it back on. I just have to sit there for like 15 minutes and hope it turns back on. For his Toshiba we just have to plug it in to the router directly because it never turns back on by itself.
Any ideas? Maybe an update I missed?

I have a dell laptop w XP that was having wireless connection trouble - it would connect to the neighbors wireless but not ours ( was ok the previous week) Tried to get help from AT & T and was instructed to turn off the Intel Proset wireless because it could be conflicting with the Wireless Zero configuration. Now I have no wireless at all since it won't turn back on with fn+f2 which is what was instructed to use to turn it off. Help! Daughter needs desperately for an online class.

A:Wireless got turned off

not sure about dell as loads of options but try to get into bios usually press delete button repeatedly on start up, but you should get flash ups on your screen saying someting like press f10 to enter bios, anyhow once in bios check the internal wirless adapter in turned on, if it is re boot, try turning windows wirless config off, start run, type services.msc scroll down to wirless config and doulble click to disable it, try downloading aprograme called bet stumbler and use that if possible, you may need to download it to another comp save installer and transfer it to dell on a usb stick for example

Hi everyone, I am currently having an issue with my network. Basically, every time my main PC is shut off, the wireless will drop it's internet connection. Devices will still connect to the wireless, but there will be no internet connection.

This had happened before, about 5 months ago, and I had fixed it by unchecking the TCP/IPv6 in my network adapter but now the same issue has come up. My main PC is wired direct to the router, which is a D-link DIR-655. As long as my PC is on, then the internet will work fine. If it is off, then at some point the connection will get dropped and not come back on until my PC is turned on again. Any help on this issue would be great.

A:No internet connection when main PC is turned off.

Control Panel/network sharing, right click on the network connections and choose properties, then sharing - maybe something there will help.

Welcome!

There is often a switch on the side, bottom, or front of the laptop that turns the card on or off.

Also go into Device Manager, find your card, and make sure it is enabled from the right-click menu.

I have a Dell XPS M1530 with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I lost my wireless capability all of a sudden with the previous install of Home Premium. Yes, the wireless switch is turned on. The machine has Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN Network Adapter and Marvell Yukon 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller. I have it hard-wired to my router with an Ethernet Cable. It's working fine.

Are there any suggestions as to how I can get my wireless capability back?

I am having issues with my wireless on my Asus laptop with Windows 7. About half a month ago, I was trying to help a friend with his internet problems, and was going through the steps myself. I instructed him to disabled, then reenable the wireless adapter in the network and sharing center. I did so myself, and noticed my wireless did not work after that. I ran diagnostics for it, and it told me that my wireless switch is turned off, which I checked and it is turned on. I tried switching it off then on again, but it still didn't work. I then did a system restore to get it to work again (which it did). Then, this morning, I was having trouble connecting to the internet, so, thinking it wouldn't do it again, I disabled and reenabled the wireless adapter, and now its doing the same thing. I tried doing a system restore, but it comes up with an error about the memory and cancels it. I would like to fix the wireless problem without having to do a system restore anyway. Please help.
Thanks, GPolice

Nevermind, I fixed it. What I did was disallowed Windows to disable the adapter for powersaving, and I uninstalled the driver. I restarted it and let it install the driver and it worked.

Hello,

I'm using Lenovo Z570 laptop. (Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter)

Problem:- Can't switch on wifi. The on/off switch is grayed out. While troubleshooting, it says, " wireless capability is turned off".

Solutions Tried:- Re-installed drivers provided by lenovo's website.
Re-installed drivers by windows update.
Reset settings in Bios to default values.
Yes the physical switch is on and the indicator light is glowing.
Fn+ F5 just toggles on/off airplane mode.
Disabled the option so that power management doesn't switches off wifi to save battery.
Other numerous solutions on internet.

The wifi worked flawlessly in windows 7. I even used it as a hotspot (via cmd method).

Someone save me..... Life without wifi seems Dull. :'(

A:Wireless capability is turned off

Try doing a full uninstall of the device and driver in Device manager. Then reboot and see if Windows 8 will find the device on its own. If it does, then you should be able to go into the desktop, open device manager and see the device listed as functioning.

Three weeks ago my computer was infected with the google redirect virus and Microsoft Security Essentials could not be reinstalled or opened. Virus removal programs did not manage to remove it until Microsoft support told me to first run rkill. Then they gave a series of virusscanners and fixes to be run and the computer seemed to be itself. I changed from Firefox to Chrome in the hope that browser would be saver. Unfortunately, a week ago, my computer acted strange again, this time by turning the battery loading indicator of and more inconveniently, the wireless lan. By using the on/off wireless lan button, the wireless lan did not work. I restarted in safe mode with networking and that worked. So I turned off most of the start-up processes and the wireless lan runs until the computer has been to sleep. After that only a restart helps the wireless lan to be turned on. I have run several anti-virus programs and in the beginning two trojans were found (sorry, I do not know which because I happily thought that would solve the problem) but did not bring a solution. Microsoft Security Essentials keeps on running this time so Microsoft support does not give help by email this time. I have reset the router to fabric installation but still the problem stays.

Ok on my Dell D530 Laptop I got home last night to find my laptop I use for work has no interner connection.

1. Checked my other laptop- It has a connection (not the Router or service its self)
2. Restarted Cable Modem and Router, just in case.
3. Re set the NIC adapter of the D530.
4. Windows Diag was no help.
5. Did everything I could think off.
6. Back-ed everything up, and re-imaged it.

With a fresh factory. It's still saying "wireless capability is turned off". There is no physical switch to "turn on or off"

I looked in "services" and re-started things I thought were help but nothing.

Anyone have any ideas that would help. Next move is calling Dell.

Thanks, Ryan

Hello, a few months ago my laptop started randomly turning off its capability, however last week it turned off completely. It occasionally turns but not for too long. The wifi button does nothing, no matter how much or how I press it, it stays orange. At the mobility center the function to turn on wifi is greyed out. I tried checking BIOS, everything is fine there, I tried checking WLAN AutoConfig at services.msc, everything is fine, and ofcourse I tried different drivers and stuff to no help. The interesting thing is that I had mini usb wireless adapter and it made wifi work, however I accidentally broke it and am unable to buy a new one at the moment.
P.S. I should also mention that I tried to lower the roaming sensitivity, make it that the laptop does not turn off the adapter on power saving mode, checked whether radio is enabled, troubleshoot the problem as admin, with no help. The driver is Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter. I pretty much tried everything out that I can find but nothing helped, hopefully someone will be able to help me. The laptop is HP ProBook 4540s. If you need more info I can gladly provide it.

If you have lost your wireless connection (Wi-Fi) and pressing the wireles button on your laptop doesn't fix it, do this: Download and install HP Connection Manager. After 8 hours of screwing with this I am so happy to report my Wi-Fi has been turned back on.  The antenna button did not work.  It only turned the Bluetooth on and off.  My wireless connection had a red X on it and the troubleshooter told me straight up that my "Wireless capability is turned off", but gave me no way to turn it back on.  In Windows Mobility Center the Wireless Network clearly showed it was off, but the button to turn it on was greyed out.  I updated the BIOS and wireles drivers, but that did nothing.  Then I downloaded and installed HP Connection Manager and rebooted.  I opened up HP CM and there was a button that showed the wireless was off.  I pushed it and the wireless turned on.  That easy.  Or rather, after hours and hours of pain, it turned on.  My next step would have been to go through the BIOS to see if somehow from there the Wi-Fi had been disabled, but I did not need to go that far. Good luck people.  Hopefully this thread will save you some time.

I've picked up some piece of malware I believe that has turned off my wireless adapter. The physical switch is turned on and Fn+f2 does not work to get it turned on. I have scanned with: Malwarebytes, Avast Antivirus, Spybot, and was running Online Armor firewall a the time of infection. Spybot did find several and all were removed. I was downloading things I should not have, and I know better. It is a fairly recent install of windows. I have release and renewed IP and flushed the DNS. Ethernet LAN connection had worked previous, now it is doing exactly what the wireless is. Wireless drivers are up to date. Any help would be appreciated!

A few months ago, I came to this forum for some troubleshooting related to BSOD's. As it turned out, they were caused by my wireless network drivers, so I updated them and the problem stopped.

However, since then, a new problem has occurred. Whenever my computer restarts, Windows seems to disable my wireless connectivity (That is it can't detect other wireless networks in range). Even after going through the troubleshooter to turn it back on, the problem still persists if I turn my computer off, and it's really annoying to have to do this every time this happens. I am assuming it has something to do with the drivers as that is when the problem started, but I can't seem to figure out how to make Windows save these settings.

My current system is a Thinkpad T400 with Windows 7 Professional x64, and my Wireless Card is an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN, with driver version 13.1.1.1. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello! I got a problem that really driving me crazy!!!!!
I can't establish any wi-fi connections, despite fact that I`am in wi-fi area. Problem appear about 6 month ago, without a reason (I do not changed hardware or any other crucial software). I have Asus N53SM notebook, which have option to manually switch on/off wireless adapter. So, if it is manually turned off there is a picture of wi-fi antenna with red cross on it, but if it is turned on, but there are no available connections it shows icon of signal strength with red cross on it. So, no matter what I do and how many wi-fi connections are there, icon shows that wi-fi adapter is not turned on at all (picture of wi-fi antenna with red cross on it)!!!!!
My PC recently returned from repair service, which said that problem is in my OS and used drivers, despite fact that I tried several versions of Windows 7 (and even Windows 8), no matter which OS I use problem stays. Every time when I tried to reinstall Windows I used original driver CD which came with PC, so drivers work well, because earlier, more than a year it worked without any problem.
After all drivers are set, in device manager section "other devices" --> "Network controller" there is "!" which says that, not all drivers were installed successfully. I dunno how could it happen, if driver CD is original. It is quite possible that Windows Update could get needed updates, but I do not have access to the wi-fi and Internet. And why... Read more

A:Wireless network adapter is turned on, but PC say`s it is not

Well; at this point what i would do is go into the device manager section of the system section of the control panel and remove any wireless adapters listed in the system section. Then reboot and let windows hopefully re-detect and reinstall the adapter(s). Also, one other thing to try is to power cycle your network equipment. Unplug the power cords to both the router and modem; wait about a minute or so; then plug the modem back in first and let that fully boot; then plug the router back in and let that fully boot. Try both of these things and see what happens. If neither of these solve your issue; post back and we can take it from there.

OK bear with me here, I'm on this forum on behalf of a friend. his comp stats are the ones i've listed for my profile. I'm listing step by step everything that happened to the point where he is now - a seeming reset on his settings and loss of personal information stashed on the comp.

He was trying to set up a wirelness connection in a pub and tried to change network connections to create a wireless setting,
the problems started before he'd turned on his network card and actually connected.

after he'd restarted, the loading screen loaded a different backaround, all desktop settings were windows default, his personal folder was moved to the documents and settings. everything that had previously been in his personal folder was moved into doc and settings all the files were there. this is the first major change.
he'd opened the wireless options, had some options that werent part of the pub network - and didn't connect. it said limited to no connectivity. at this point he got a warning that said this isnt a safe connection and continued anyway. noticed the firewall was down at this point. he doesnt remember if he did or not leave it off. he didnt connect to any successful networks.
he then got the pub network password, and was able to connect, was on for about 15 minutes give or take, the low battery caused him to leave.
He closed the top of the monitor on the saving settings screen before it had saved fully. back at the flat, the power ligh... Read more

Just bought a Gateway MX6453. I have DSL at home, with a wireless modem. In order to get online, each time the laptop has been closed, I need to start Wireless Zero Configuration. Under properties, it is set for startup type=automatic.

Then I have to go to Open Network Connections, Properties, Wireless Networks, and check "use windows to configure my wireless settings". It is always unchecked when the computer is restarted.

How do I set this up so it really is automatic? On the old laptop, it connects automatically when the card is in and you turn the laptop on.

Tried one office yesterday that has a secure network, you need to type in a key each day. Even after going through all of the above, my laptop couldn't even see the network, although the laptop 2 feet away was online fine.

Is there some firewall or something resetting these settings? I thought I uninstalled all the McAffee stuff that came with the laptop, just using Windows firewall and AVGfree antivirus.

New laptop also has bluetooth, is that what is causing this issue?

Thanks!

I'm using an Acer Aspire 5710 laptop (see my computer specs for more information) and I had it set up nicely and it was all working fine... But I lent it to someone and now I've got it back the wireless doesn't work. I'm using the Acer eNet management and it says there are no wireless networks. I can connect to my network using the same model of laptop, so it's not that.

When I use windows to diagnose the problem it says my wireless card has been disabled and there should be a switch on the outside to enable it (which there isn't) or a function key combination (which I can't find). The wireless card is built in to the laptop.

I would be extremely grateful for any help.

Hello,

I am having quite a large problem with my TalkTalk connection. Whenever i turn off my computer, internet access stops for the entire network, anyone who is conencted, however, local access is still possible.

I am also having a problem with the wireless in my laptop also. Whereas every computer on my network is able to access the router wirelessly, my computer (the one that seems to chut down internet access) won't do that, i send packets, but none are received.

How can i fix these two problems, thanks in advance.

EDIT: Also, when i look at my router settings on 192.168.1.1 when the internet access is offline the IP, Primary and secondary DNS come up as 0.0.0.0, while when it is connectedi get proper addresses.

has this always been the case ?

can we see an ipconfig /all

ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Good day,

Due to my coming posting to a place without a wifi connection for my tablet, I decided to turn my laptop into a wifi hotspot.

I googled and found this post:

How to turn your Windows 7 laptop into a wireless hotspot | News | TechRadar

I thought, "Hey, that's cool". So I did everything mentioned there to the letter. It worked, my laptop was able to create its own hotspot, which was well cool. I connected my tablet to the new wifi connection. It did work, but I had no internet connection. So I assume that whatever I did, it disconnected my wireless adapter to created the hotspot. So I thought, that's fine, I'll just use a network cable.

Now here's the real problem.
1) I disconnected the connection, but my wireless network on my laptop told me that I had no internet connection.
2) I checked my tablet and reconnected the tablet to my home wireless network. It worked fine. I'm posting this using my tablet on home wireless.
3) No issue with my laptop nor the hardware, because prior to following the tutorial, my wireless network works just fine.
4) I tried disabling the device in Network & Sharing. No difference.
5) I stopped hostednetwork. No difference.
6) I disallowed hostednetwork. No difference.
7) As a last ditched effort, I turned on the system restore and reverted back to an earlier point. That finally work. My laptop finally has an internet connection again.

So my question is, what actually happened here and if I encounter th... Read more

A:No internet connection after I turned my laptop into wifi hotspot

To my knowledge the WiFi adapter work as either a connection point to a WiFi router/Wireless access point or AS a wireless Access Point, WiFi Hot Spot, but not both. So you would need to connect the notebook to a router (internet connection) with a Ethernet cable. Then the computer will take the internet from the Cable and send it out to connected devices.

The issue seems to be with my wifi hardware chip. Eventualy I had to take the laptop to Service Center. The guy tried everything that I did again. Finally the problem is resolved, he plugged out the wifi hardware chip, cleand its both ends a little bit using a eraser, and inserted again and voila, it got detected. He said it could be the issue of carbon lodged on chip's connecting ends. Since then I have faced same issue several times, and All I do is open my laptop, plug out WiFi chip from motherboard, clean it a little and plug it again. And It starts working like a charm.May be it is loose or I don't know what is the exact problem. But it still has a problem with Antenna, I recieve very low signal from my wifi, even I am within decent range of wifi router.

Hello all,
I've used the internal wireless (1397 mini-card) for a couple of years now...All of a sudden the WIFI LED is not lit up above my keyboard....Win 7 reports no problem with the card and the driver appears to be ok...Others have told me to try the FN + F2 key to turn the wireless switch back on, but this combo doesn't change anything...In fact, on my laptop that combo controls whether the AC adapter charges the battery or not while plugged in.
I booted into my XP dual boot real quick...ON this OS the wireless is controlled by the dell application and the dell software says the wireless radio switch is disabled? Everything is enabled in the BIOS under the wireless section...It must be a different key combo to turn my wireless on/off?
I plugged in my wireless dongle from another machine and everything works great...

A:Latitude E5500 Wireless Switch turned off?

Okay everyone,
I just solved my own problem....I can't believe I did not know where this switch was and what it does....As soon as I posted I found a site that has the right information for this laptop....On the E5500 the FN key has nothing to do with the wireless switch on/off.I literally burned through 50 sites with everyone saying "just hold down FN and press F2"...I don't know why everybody has the wrong info about this laptop.
There is a toggle switch on the front of the laptop(just on the underside of the keyboard plane)...It's about where your left wrist sits when you are typing on the keypad...It has a wireless Access point symbol on the switch...It looks similar to this:::::

Here is a picture from the site:::

In this diagram, the number 7 is exactly where the toggle switch is to turn wireless radio on/off. Maybe this post was a little overkill, but I was about to tear my hair out trying to figure out why my darn wireless wasn't working. I hope this helps anyone who reads it.

Hi everyone, I just bought a cheap simple printer for the wife and i already wish i hadn't got a HP. It is a photosmart c4580, I have got the software and drivers installed ok but when the printer is on the internet drops out. I am running the printer wirelessly from a d-link g604t router and need to unplug the router and turn off the printer in order to regain internet access. tried the diagnostics and it says the dns server name is wrong. contacted HP and they tell me new drivers are coming next month but i can't wait that long.... any ideas at all?????

regards KevO

A:Internet dies when wireless printer is turned on

Find the network configuration page for the printer. Change the dns to be 10.1.1.1. That your router's default address according to http://imagelibrary.gotalk.com.au/pd...SetupGuide.pdf

It should work then. Let us know how it goes.

It's probably a good idea to make sure the Bonjour service is not resident and active on any machine across your network. Follow this page to do that.

http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/...sresponderexe/

Should you require further help, please tell us the type of connection you have from your isp (cable, dsl) and how do you get internet access to your router (cable modem?, dsl modem?, lan cable connected to wall in apartment?) I would have you change the dns address of your g604t to the default address of this cable or dsl modem.

One step at a time. Either I or someone else will be able to help you fix this.

However I went on holiday for a few days, and so I turned all the plugs off at the wall(something I never do) and since I got home im getting speed of around 20-25mb. I called the engineer out but he wasnt able to do anything because when he connected it to his laptop, he was getting speeds of 47mb. He said he didnt know why i was getting such a slow speed through my desktop, just said it must have something to do with my computer. Anyone with any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks

A:Internet Connection Speed has changed since i turned my computer off at wall

What web browser are you using? Also are you connected wired or wireless? If wireless does the speed improve when directly connected? A few things to try is resetting your web browser or trying a diffrent one. Removing any installed toolbars.

Hi...

I've set up my internet-connected laptop (Acer Aspire One with Windows 7 Starter) as wifi hotspot. The hotspot works to the extent that it lets another computer connect, but it does not provide (pass through) the internet access I have (via 3G USB modem).

While searching the net for useful information I came across the recent thread
No internet connection after I turned my laptop into wifi hotspot

Following up on the two tutorials mentioned in that thread,
Windows 7 Tip of the Week: Use Wireless Hosted Networking to Share An Internet Connection Wirelessly | FAQ/Tip content from Paul Thurrott's SuperSite for Windows
and
Windows 7 Hotspot: Share Wifi With Your Laptop
I noticed that on my laptop the important Share tab is missing that can be seen in the first image in the first tutorial and also in the first image in the section "Changing Adapter Settings" in the secodn tutorial.

The network adapters I can see on my laptop are

Local Area connection
(unplugged)

3G Internet
USB modem

Wireless connection
Atheros AR5B95

Wireless Connection 2
Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

Many thanks in advance for suggestions and probing questions

A:internet connection not shared by my laptop turned wifi hotspot

If the sharing tab is missing then it means that the driver isn't up to date. About the only way to fix that is to look for a more recent version of the wireless driver. Just updating or reinstalling the driver might be enough although some adaptors simply can't support this feature as per Paul Thurrott's page on this.

It all started with google redirect. I wish I would have found this forum sooner rather than later. With that said, I had already DLed MbAM and removed half a dozen various infections just to be left without a WiFi internet connection. I had also run a few of the tools such as the GMER and Combofix before landing on this site. So i appologize in advance if this could cause more headache. I did however manage to save all the original logs if need-be.

The computer itself is actually running much faster however, without the internet connection I can't tell if the redirect was cured.

I do not have a restore Windows CD (Netbook). I do have an empty pendrive, a clean computer, and internet access to boot. Also, I'm including the most pertinant MBAM log ... so here we go...

An update...

After further poking, I found that this system had a partition which contained the original windows image. Since there was no valuable data on this computer I decided to go ahead with the recovery. I have regained my internet connection...and some sanity. However, I am thinking this may not be the end of the infection... or is it?

Hello Everyone. I am trying to help my mom with DSL modem w/Wireless problem. The modem was setup by connecting it to a desktop via an ethernet cable. After the initial (basic) setup was complete, the desktop connected to the internet and worked great using the ethernet connection.

However, when I go back in the modem setup and turn on the wireless everything stops working. I no longer have internet connection on the desktop and can no longer access the DSL modem setup via ethernet connecton. The wireless light on the modem is solid green, as are all the other lights, but the wireless network is not available either. The only way I can get back in is to power cycle the modem.

I have setup many wireless networks in the past with absolutely no problems but usually have separate cable/dsl modem and wireless router, never setup a combo unit. This one has me stumped. My desired setup is to connect the desktop with an ethernet cable and my laptops via wireless.

DSL Modem: Actiontec GT701-wg
DSL Provider: Qwest
Desktop OS: Win XP Media
Laptop OS: Win XP Pro

Any suggestions??? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Off-hand, it sounds like the router may be broken. There's no reason I can see that simply enabling the wireless connection should kill all the functionality.

My brother in law has a weird situation.
He has a Linksys wireless router installed.
He only uses the router for use with lap top for the wireless convenience around the house.
The desktop PC is Ethernet wired;.

When both laptop and PC are shut off, and then he, in another room turns on the laptop, the Desktop PC start up all by itself.

Has anyone heard of this?

Is there a setting on either of these PC or router that need adjustment?

I will sincerely appreciate assistance with this ghostly matter.
Thanks

Hello All,

In the last two weeks I have been experiencing something very strange with my Windows 10 Pro. When my laptop resumes from sleep the Wireless is turned off in Windows. I don't believe it was an update because I have defer updates enabled. Unfortunately, I just noticed System Restore was turned off.

1) I have checked the power settings in Device Manager and the device is NOT checked to use power management)
2) I have updated to the latest wireless driver available.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I believe this issue has something specifically to do with Sleep because when I reboot or shutdown/power-on the Wireless is enabled and working fine. It only seems to be when Windows goes into sleep mode.

A:Wireless turned off after lid closed or sleep (Not Power Management)

It is common behavior for any devices to be powered down if you close the lid to place into sleep mode.

I've been having this problem off and on, sometimes it cures itself randomly for weeks at a time but its getting really bad now. Whenever my wireless card is switched on, the computer seems a bit slower, mouse doesn't move smoothly, and most annoyingly, the audio is horribly distorted and crackly. Obviously this is quite rage inducing. Wireless card has newest drivers, Windows is fully updated.

CPU usage isn't rising so I have no idea whats causing it

A:Entire system slowing down when wireless card is turned on

sounds a bit odd for a wireless card to slow down the computer....have you tried booting into safe mode with networking and see if that slows down the computer. i'm just thinking it the wireless card and somthing else is working together for this problem.

Hello all. I don't even know from where to start. If someone's able to help me, I'll be grateful.

The problem is like this: I own a Toshiba Equium L40-10U :

-Processor : Intel(r) Celeron(r) M CPU 520 @1.6 GHZ
-Memory : 1GB of RAM
-Qualcomm Atheros AR5007EG Wireless.
It came with a 32 bit Windows Vista Home Premium, and I recently updated it to a 32 bit Windows 7 Ultimate.

When I was running on Vista, the wireless kept turning on and off, without me disabling it. I thought it was a driver issue, so I updated the drivers, again, it was working fine, but the problem appeared again.
I then upgraded my operating system to 7 Ultimate, Windows Update updated my wireless driver, and it worked for a couple of hours, and while I was on the internet reading something, I saw this pop-up on my screen: "Wireless Lan OFF". Since then I cannot seem to "activate " my wireless.

Should I mention that there is no actual switch to turn the wireless on or off, is just a hotkey combination: Fn and number 8.
And now when I press that, it just gives me a popup: "Wireless Lan OFF". It doesn't matter how many times I press it , it still says that is off.

I'll attach a print screen to see exactly the pop-up message(see first attachment)

In the device manager, the wireless adapter is there and functioning properly (see second attachment)

Things that I already tried:

-Uninstall wireless adapter, download & install latest wireless driver... Read more

I just loaded Window 7 over Vista on Fujitsu Siemens, Amilo Li2727 and the wireless capability seems to be lost now. The function key which used to work no longer does,
the diagnostic says the root problem is that the radio switch is turned off but I cant find it or directions to it! I've seen other threads with this problem but no solution! Can anybody help?
Thanks!!

A:Lost wireless cpaability, windows 7 over vista(radio turned off)

Hi -

Please see this Amilo Li 2727 product guide from Fujitsu --> http://ts.fujitsu.com/Resources/22/1250859061.pdf

Under "Hot Keys", it mentions that pressing the Fn - F1 keys turns the WLAN on/off.

If the keys do not work, you may need driver updates from Fujitsu --> http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/com/su...downloads.html

Also, run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor --> http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...e-advisor.aspx

My services were offered by my father to a guy to install a dual boot on his system. I have done this procedure before so I felt fairly comfortable doing it on a system belonging to a business. However, mid dual boot procedure I start recieving BootMGR Missing Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to reboot. Immediatly I hit google; however, all given solutions prove to be negative in fixing.
The gentalman was supposed to have backed up his system for me, the words out of his mouth are "I'm doing as we speak". Vista came preinstalled so I have no Vista Home Premium x64 disks. So, I call up the guy and he says somethings came up and he couldn't make them but what ever I do make sure I get vista working again, don't lose his stuff.
Now it's forget the dual boot just get vista back, but this damn BootMGR won't stop popping up. I'm at a loss of things to do.

Hi guys,

I have an acer aspire one KAV60 mini laptop, It was dropped and the LCD panel was broken. I used it with an external VGA monitor while the ebay LCD purchased arrived home. I didnt use the laptop for 1 month.

Today the LCD panel arrived, I changed it right away. But as soon I connected the flex cable LCD panel when On with a white light like if the LED Backlight was connected directly.

Laptop was turned off when this happens. If I turn the laptop On, then the LCD panel goes black (Led light turns off) HD powers on, vent powers on, power led is on, if I plug the AC adapter then charge led is on; but no Bios logo at all. Like if the BIOS operations where dead at all.

LCD was used but in good shape as quoted by the seller on ebay. Now, if the screen was in "short circuit" when purchased could this mess up the whole laptop? Could a defective LCD panel cause the motherboard to die?

Or could the motherboard die just becaus it cans, and that to be the reason why the LCD panel goes on white light? What do you think can be wrong now with my laptop?

Thanks in advance.

A:Acer KAV60: LCD is white when turned off, no image when turned on

It could be a defective inverter or LCD panel. I would try a new inverter first

This has happened before, and I ran Microsoft's Sound problems wizard and it always said that an option had been clicked off and that it had restored it. This time when I ran the wizard it says it detects no problems. I am sure it is the software, as it happens a lot with MS updates. Will downloading a new driver help? Hi folks, would greatly appreciate any help and advice on the following problem that's been happening over the last few months...

I have a Dell Dimension 9200 running Windows XP and use a Buffalo WBMR-G54 Wireless Router to connect to the internet. I also connect wirelessly with a Dell Latitude laptop and an iPhone.

What's been happening on the desktop computer is a loss of connection for 30 seconds at a time or so with the message 'Local Area Connection (a network cable is unplugged)'.

Yet while my desktop is disconnected my other devices are using the wireless connection without a break so it doesn't look like there's anything wrong with my broadband provider.

The Network Connection properties are:
Intel(R) 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection
PCI bus 0, device 25, function 0
Link speed: 10Mbps/Full Duplex
Driver Version: 9.4.21.0

It seems to be happening much more frequently in the evenings than during the day, especially when using Skype.

Any pointers and help would be great, let me know if you need any more info.

Many thanks

hey,

Today i have a new problem with my adsl. The wireless was working at full 'advertised' speed last night, then today i noticed the wireless connection symbol in the task bar had changed from 54mbs to only 2 mbs, and a speedtest showed that it was a tenth of the speed it used to be.

Because i just installed my modem yesterday, i thought maybe this was just the isp limiting my connection until i register the modem or something. However, when i connect an ethernet cable between the modem and my computer, the connection works at full advertised speed. Does this rule out the possibility that my isp is limiting my signal, and suggest that the problem is with my wireless settings? Thanks for any help. The modem is a speedtouch 780.

Hi,
I have windows 7 Pro installed. I have a DSL connection that requires a username and password. I have read the tutorials for setting up ICS in windows 7, but it is not working for me. In my 'change adapter settings' page, I have 3 connections: LAN, Wireless and M 1 (this is the dial-up for the username and password). Here's what I have done:

I have enabled ICS for M 1, and created an ad-hoc wireless connection called 'M network'. I basically want to share my wired connection with my iPhone. Everything is ok as far as connecting my iPhone to M network, but when I try to use the internet, all i get is a 'connecting' message on my phone, and it doesnt go any further. I have used this network before to connect 'air mouse' on my phone that lets me use my phone as a touchpad. It still works fine that way, but I cant use internet.

I have even tried enabling the ICS on LAN instead, but got the same results.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hi,

Hoping someone can help.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows XP with a wireless connection to a broadband router.

Several weeks ago my laptop started dropping the internet connection randomly (I'm alos unabel to access email when this happens).

My wireless network icon in my toolbar shows the connection as 'Excellent' but for some reason both Internet and Email is not available. The only way to fix the problem has been to restart my laptop which is very frustrating.

I've noticed that this also happens randomly when I'm at home (using different wireless broadband modem) so I think the issue is my laptop not the 2 x routers/modems.

I'm running NOD32 for security as well (but have been for 4 years now with no problems till now).

Please help.

Cannot connect to home wireless network with Toshiba Satellite laptop running Vista with SP2. Other family wireless devices working fine and good internet connection using ethernet cable from my laptop to router.

Problem just started today after trying public free wireless in airport early today. Would not connect and got a security certificate warning on another free internet network. So, did not use. Internet worked fine tethered to my phone.

I have an internal wireless g card and a usb plug-in wireless n adapter. Neither one works now. In network status section of control panel shows good network connection but red X before internet connection icon.

I ran a Norton scan and Malwarebytes scan in safe mode with no issues. Also tried to connect wireless in safe mode with no success.

Lastly I did system restore to a few days ago when wireless connection was working fine. No success there either.

I connect it to my computer and everything. The wireless works fine (i'm using a laptop to create this post). However, it is not a secure network so I wanted to add a password. The problem is that the host computer that is connected to the router has no internet connection. When I open internet explorer or try to find a connection through the troubleshoot, it says it can't find one. Can anybody figure out why this would happen and how to fix it? I think I have the modem's drivers and stuff updated to the host computer and stuff.
Therefore, I have no wait getting to the ip address and/or setting up a secure network.

Hi there, im new to the forums and i've got a problem that's been a real pain for me lately.
I've got a wireless connection in my house going through a Linksys WRT54GC router and also a wired connection with Cisco gateway (only 1 laptop uses it). About 1 month ago some strange things began to happen with the wireless connection, my PC seems not to be able to connect unless I reinstall the protocols and it's really annoying to do that every time I run my PC. Also, the wired connection stopped working (probably because of cable being broken) but it requires a router restart 90% of the time when I want to connect the laptop (that used to connect through cable) to the wireless network. The 2nd laptop has an issue mentioned in the title, the LAN works but it can't connect to the Internet through the router. Ipconfig /all shows that DHCP isn't working, there's no default gateway and DNS seems to be wrong. Could that all be related to router not being updated for a long time? I tried reinstalling drivers, unistalling and installing back network card and doing most of the things mentioned in similar threads but nothing seems to work. I know it all looks very silly but I can't do anything about it, at least now - I don't have access to any router settings and can't update it.
Every bit of help is appreciated. I can paste all the information needed from all computers.

(Sorry, I just edited this because I realized the title said Wireless Router, it's actually a gateway. Can't fix it.)

I have a Netgear CGD24G Wireless Gateway and a Gateway MA8 laptop with after-market Windows 7 (Vista got a virus, went ahead and upgraded.)

Now, when I download 100 MB files on my Xbox 360 (Which is wired to the modem) it will be downloaded in a couple minutes, or less. The other computers in my house (There are plenty, and even more that come and go.) get a blazing internet connection, and most of them are wireless. Now this computer, which had an extremely quick connection as well all of a sudden dropped off, while the rest of the computers remain fast.

I've gone to Speedtest.net before and after this occurred and my speed before was around 12 mb/s, and one time around 4 AM was even upward of 25 mb/s, all of these tests were performed multiple times on different server locations.

I JUST did the speedtest, and it came back with .4 mb/s, and the UL speed was 2.0. I honestly can't remember what I averaged with it prior to the problem, but it was definitely higher as well.

This started happening a little less than a week ago, and I've downloaded/changed nothing major with the computer, and have mainly used it for light browsing, and an occasional download.

Also, this is mainly just a hobby fix. I have a long enough cable to wire the computer straight to the gateway, so I really don't want to buy new hardware or anything of t... Read more

Wireless printers can be connected both by USB and wireless simultaneously. However, I have come across many that say they should but don't do so easily. Sometimes they have to be setup wireless first then USB and others vice versa..
In my opinion, it is probably the best option to add the printer to the desktop through the network. Then there should be no problems with setup. Hope that helps..

I bought a toshiba satellite m45-s2692 on April 2, 2006.
It has an intel pro wireless 2200bg adapter - driver v 9.0.1.9
I have it connected a netgear wgr614v5 router.
it has a problem maintaining a constant speed. I watched the network monitor on the notebook and it always shows a "connection excellent" however, the speed is not constant - it will vary from 1mbsp to 54 mbsp - but seldom does it maintain the 54 mbsp.

on 4/20/2006, I sent the machine to toshiba - they replaced the network adapter - or so they said, and wiped the hard drive and reinstalled the original software.
I rec'd the machine back and find that the problem has not changed - it still will not maintain a steady speed so viewing files on other pcs on the lan takes forever and page loads on the net can also occupy too much time.

I have an older toshiba satellite with a netgear wireless wg511t adapter.
I have watched the monitor on that one and it will show connection excellent and maintains a steady speed of 54 mbsp. these two machines can be sitting side by side or in separate rooms and still the old one will maintain it's connection and speed but the new will not maintain the speed.

I called toshiba up again, and they want to say it's my router. I explained to them that another toshiba on the same network does not faulter -- so how can it be the router?
they didn't want to, but they are "granting" me service to send the machine back to them again. I haven't... Read more

when i double click the icon in my systray of the the flashing monitor, which opens my wireless network connection status window, the number next to Speed fluctuates between 11.0 Mbps to 54.0 Mbps. I just updated my dlink wbr 2310 routers firmware to 1.03 from 1.02 because previously i was getting randomly disconnected. Its only been a couple days, but i havnt yet noticed that ive been randomly disconnected anymore, but now my connection speed fluctuates, where with the old firmware, i never once saw it change. what could be causing this change? as its screwing up my online gaming, causing me to lag when it drops way down. I never had a problem with the speed changing before, and cant find any setting that looks like it could be linked to such an event, though im no networking expert, so i may be missing something. what does anyone think of this problem? thanks.

google for a program called Network Stumbler. When it runs, you can see other
wifi systems near by and the real asset is the disclosure of all the channels in use.

pick a channel that is not used

monitor what activities you are performing when the connection rate changes;
it's likely that it only occurs when you're gaming. In that case, the stress of the
networked game is the actual cause of the rate change.

I have a Presario M2000 with Windows XP. I have been using a Linksys WRT54G wireless router for three years with no problems. Recently a relative, unable to find the Encryption Key, "reset" the router. It still works fine but it is now an unsecured connection.

I tried to secure the connection by running the Linksys installation CD four times. I called Linksys and was informed that my service contract, which I did not know I had, had expired. If I paid them $39.99 they would walk me through a new installation that I could make secure.

I tried to check out their website, linsysbycisco.com, but it seems not to exist!

I had no idea that I would not be able to change the security settings of the router after a certain amount of time! Is there anything I can do, short of paying them $39.99, to make the wireless router connection secure?

(I am a new member and posted this question twice as I titiled my first inquiry with my user name...sorry!!!! ....wont do it again!)

A:Solved: Reset wireless router now can't secure the wireless connection!

That is a pretty common Linksys router and you should just be able to download the router manual from Linksys's website and go into the Web Interface of the router to setup the Wireless encryption again.

I saw some people having trouble with extremely slow wireless connections using an Intel Centrino Wireless n-1030 card. The original thread is closed, so the problem may already be solved, but if anyone is still experiencing this problem, here is what worked for me:

This NIC is a dual band card (802.11 + bluetooth), and with some routers having the bluetooth enabled really slowed down the 802.11n connection (it didn't seem to happen with my netgear router, but when I switched to linksys, WHAMMO!).

Anyway, when I disabled the Bluetooth adapter in Device Manager the problem was completely solved (uhhhh except I need to use a dongle to make my bluetooth mouse work now... small price to pay IMO)

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience. Hope it can help someone.

I have a new dual band wireless-AC router (Linksys EA6300) and just installed an Intel AC 7260 wireless card in my laptop. The wireless network I am connected to indicates that it is a 802.11n connection, but in the Wireless Network Connection Status it only shows a connection speed of 54mb/s. The router is capable of 300mb/s in the 2.4ghz band and 867mb/s in the 5ghz band. Using inSSIDer to examine the networks, it shows that when I'm connected to the 5ghz network it has a max rate of 450mb/s.

I have tried everything I can think of and have searched and searched to no avail. If my router is an AC router, and my wireless card is an AC card, why is my connection speed limited to 54mb/s?

I also have another computer with a wireless-N card and the connection speed is also limited to 54mb/s on that computer too.

I've attached a screenshot showing the connection speed.

Have you tried checking the various setting in the network folder? Also, your router has a configuration web page doesnt it? a page you would go to; in order to change the router settings? If so, log into that page and check the router settings. Also; even though the router is new I believe you mentioned; there might be a firmware upgrade for the router that you should be able to easily check for. Im not familiar with the type of router you have. but you should be able to get into the settings fairly easily.
