Solved: Xbox 360 not connecting to NetGear WGR614 v5 router

Q: Solved: Xbox 360 not connecting to NetGear WGR614 v5 router

As of last friday, I had a xbox 360 that worked fine with this router. But, my Xbox crashed, so I bought a used one. When I plug it in to my router with an ethernet cable, the light shows on the port for a little while then resets. This creates a disruption, and the xbox wont connect. It fails the very first network test. I tried different cables, that didnt work. However, if i plug the same ethernet cord into my laptop from the same port on the router, the laptop still gets internet and the connection does not drop.
Also, I plugged the xbox directly into the modem and THIS worked. So, its not a faulty ethernet port on the xbox. I tried port forwarding the ports that are recommended to open on the router and i tried resetting the router and modem multiple times.
Nothing changed on the router between xboxes, and I know I have at least covered all the basics. A friend told me I may be able to try turning off Mac Address Filtering, but I dont know how to do this on my NetGear wgr614 v5 router.
Anybody have any ideas whats going on? The weirdest part is how it will connect, and the light is lit up on the port the xbox is plugged into, but then when i run a test the lighht goes out and the test fails. Its like the router is kicking the xbox off or keeps resetting that connection.

Thanks in advance for any help!

You said that you reformatted the laptop, so obviously you had to then install a fresh copy of WIndows. Did you then install the proper chipset drivers from your Drivers CD or from the laptop manufacturer's web site? And make sure that you have the latest driver for the wireless adapter? If not, please do so now.

Can you connect the laptop successfully by ethernet?

If you are still having problems connect (or try to connect) by both ethernet and wireless and show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

If anyone can help us figure this problem out, it would be greatly appreciated!

We recently update switched over our cable internet (provided by Comcast) over to DHCP...we got an e-mail from Comast saying that we had to. After switching the internet over, our Router stopped working.

The cable modem works perfectly fine when hooked directly to the cable outlet, but we have tried everything we could think of (including formatting hard drives on two computes, and reloading Windows XP on both!) to try and solve the problem.

Does anyone know what can be done to update the Netgear WGR614 v6 router to work with DHCP? We found directions on a forum that the poster said worked great, but we are unable to ping the Router Admin at http://192.168.1.1. If we could access that site, I'm sure the directions we got would work. Is there any reason why we cannot access "http://192.168.1.1"?

Thanks!

I have a Wireless Router (Netgear WGR614 V7) and I am facing problems with it while connecting to the Cable Modem.

My Setup: I have Broadband Internet from Cox Communications. I use a Motorola SB5120 Cable Modem. I then connect my Netgear Router to the Modem to get wireless internet.

Problem: When I connect the Netgear Router to the Modem, the router works for 6-8 hours without any interruption. But thereafter it starts dropping the Internet signal very frequently (every 3-5 minutes). The wireless connection is dropped as well as if there are any wired connections using the router. If I power off the router for 2-3 hours it is ready to work for another 6-8 hours. If I go through the normal power cycle suggested for routers (power off the modem, power off the router, wait for 30 seconds, power on the modem, when all the 4 LEDs on modem are Green power on the router) the router drops signal every 3-5 minutes.

I have tried hardwiring (using an ethernet cable) my laptop directly to the cable Modem and I get very good quality internet signal (Approx 15000 KBps Download and 500 KPBS Upload Speed). I don't experience any drops in the internet signal. So the problem should not be related to my cable company or the cable modem.

Looking for any help if I can get on what can be done with my router!

Hi all,

Recently I purchased the above mentioned router, cos I have just got a new laptop that is WI-FI enabled so I thought that I would try wireless, but with no joy !!!!!!!!

I'm connected via cable to a modem then to the router. When I turned on the router it ran the quick test no problem. The internet light is illuminated and blinking occasionally, so I presume that there is a connection there. The Wireless icon remains unlit nothing from that (don't know if there should be), but I am unable to connect to the net the laptop says there are networks available, but I don't know if it has picked up someone else's router.

P.S the internet runs fine on my PC.

The laptop is running Vista as an O/S, which I do not really know much about.

A really dumb question "do I need to install the netgear software first"

Sorry for being thick.

Hello,

I own a Windows 8 PC, LG Optimus 2X, Sony Xperia U, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, Xiaomi MI3. All of these are connected to my Router via WiFi and they work like a charm.

I recently purchased G-Box Midnight MX2 (All The Way From US - India). THE PROBLEM: Does Not Connect Over WiFi But Works Perfectly Over Ethernet Cable!

The device (currently connected to my TV and I am using an Ethernet Cable connected to my Router) recognizes my router name. But when I enter the password, it says connecting for 1-2 seconds and nothing happens. When the Ethernet Cable was already connected and when I tried to connect via WiFi, the device prompted a message that it cannot connect to the Router via Cable and WiFi at the same time. So, I've tried all the ways possible by removing the Ethernet Cable.

What I've Done:

Tried All Security Options On Router: None, WPS, Security Key Blah Blah Blah.

My router works fine as a secure network with my laptop running Windows XP.

but, I just bought new laptop with Windows 7, and new laptop will not connect. I've tried everything!

On the Netgear site, it appears that only v7 and v8 have new 'firmware' to run with Windows 7. Does anyone know?? Would I screw up my router if I download one of those to a v5 router?

Should I just buy a new router??

Any help appreciated. BTW, if I do have to buy a new router, what brand should I buy? My WGR614 is 54 MBPS.

I just switched routers from a Linksys WRT54G to a Netgear WGR614. The Netgear worked properly on my other router before I upgraded it to a Buffalo router. When I hooked the Netgear router up to my cable modem and plugged in the three computers needed to be hooked up to it only one of the computers showed up on the router. What I mean is that while wired into the router only one of the lights indicating a connection lit up. The other two computers do not even make the lights on the front of the router light up. The one computer that shows a connection on the router does have internet access. When I tried to hook the Linksys back up it failed to connect to the internet even though the lights on the front of it did light up indicating a wired connection with all of the computers. I need the Netgear working because I have to give the Linksys back so troubleshooting the Linksys isn't really an option. I tried renewing connections and resetting up the Netgear router but to no avail. I even tried to connect the Netgear back up to the original modem it was connected to before I moved it upstairs to the modem I want it connected to now but I could not get an internet connection working with the original modem either, although the lights for both computers downstairs did light up on the front of the router. Sorry if this is a little difficult to follow. I can try to make certain aspects more clear if necessary. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

A:Solved: Netgear WGR614 problem

If an ethernet LED does not light it indicates a problem with the port or the cable, or possibly the port (NIC) at the other end of the cable.

I don't understand the talk about multiple modems or "The Netgear worked properly on my other router before I upgraded it to a Buffalo router."

You don't need any disk to setup a router, and it'll only add confusion.

Start, Run, CMD

IPCONFIG

Take the default gateway IP address and put it in the IE address bar. This will connect you to the router's web based setup screens.

What I want to do is run the three wired machines and DSL into the Linksys BEFW11S4 Router. SInce the Linksys is only wireless B, I want to run a port out to the Netgear (so I can have Wireless G access)

The reason I want to use the Linksys for wired is because it does a much better job of forwarding ports and such (the Netgear simply refuses to do it)

Any ideas on either hooking it up this way or getting the Netgear to forward ports?

Thanks,

Joe

A:Solved: Connect Linksys BEFW11S4 to Netgear WGR614

Connecting two SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

Ok i have struggled with this for a week now. What i'm trying to do is share my USB 3G modem to my Xbox.

Tried setting up an ad hoc network using stock Vista settings and also tried using a program called Connectify. Using stock vista settings the ad hoc simply will not work. Using Connectify the ad hoc network works but only for a couple of hours, then the USB modem tries to connect to my ad hoc network which then disables the Internet connection on the USB modem. Its a baffling problem but most likely something to do with the USB modem which just gets stuck trying to connect to a wep secured ad hoc network, the usb modem cannot be connected to mobile and wifi so it simply shuts the connection down .So ad hoc simply does not work.

So instead i'm trying to share my internet connection through my Netgear router. I read around the net that in order to do this DHCP needs to be disabled on the router. So i disabled it. Now the xbox will not connect to the netgear router, it cannot get an ip address because DHCP is turned off. I looked around the net and all the information is conflicting. No matter what i cannot get an ip number from the router to the xbox. DHCP needs to be off for ICS to function, but i get no further than "cannot get ip address". The xbox is connected to the netgear, it sees the netgear fine, but will not get an ip.

How can i get my xbox to get an ip from the router with DHCP turned off ?

I have been trying to find a way to connect, forward the signal, recieve the signal from my Verizon Fios wireless router up to my WGT624 V3 Netgear router.

Is there a way that I can modify my wirless port on my Netgear to recieve a signal wirelessly from my Verizon Wireless router?

My Neighbor did it once with another wireless router, but he can not remember how he did it. I am thinking it had something to do with the Firmware.

If anyone can help me with this that would be great.

I'm basically trying to push the wireless signal from my Verizon router in my basement, up to my wireless Netgear router which is recieving the signal on the main level so that I can plug my wired (non wireless) laptop into the ethernet port which is receiving wireless signal from the Verizon router in the basement in order to gain access to the internet.

Can this be done with the equipment listed above and or some additional firmware and configuration?

Thank you for all your assistance on this in advance.

Ok. I just connected a Netgear WGR614v9 router and have been attempting to connect my son's Xbox to XBox Live through a wireless adapter.

I keep getting an MTU failure saying that I need to set the router to a MTU of at least 1364.

The router's factory default is 1500.

The Xbox is not the problem as I can leach off the neighbor's wireless network and connect just fine but the quality of the connection is very crappy.

I have read that I need to set-up Port Forwarding and Port Triggering and disable any firewalls. I've done as much as I can to no avail.

Port Triggering is giving me errors currently. I need to enter the outbound port number and I have no clue what it is or how to find it. The only assistance I've found from Microsoft is:

Firewall ports for Xbox LIVE and Windows Vista Certified Devices
Most broadband routers use Network Address Translation (NAT). Windows Internet Connection Sharing also uses NAT.

For most networking hardware that uses NAT, forwarding a network port from one network node to another network node (usually known as port forwarding or tunneling) is not required for your Xbox console to connect to Xbox LIVE. This is especially true if you use an Xbox LIVE - certified device. Port forwarding should only be necessary if you use a proxy server or a true firewall device instead of, or in addition to, NAT. Sometimes, you may have to configure port settings on a non-Xbox LIVE-certified router or gateway.

I have Qwest/CenturyLink DSL, and recently replaced the Actiontec M1000 modem which crapped out after 5 years of service. Replaced it with a Netgear DM111PSP v2 router/modem. Now I cannot get either of my two routers, the Linksys WRT54G or WRT160N V2 to broadcast wireless internet. I've spent the most time on the WRT160N. It will broadcast a wireless signal, but devices that attempt to connect to the internet time out while "obtaining IP address". BTW, I just happen to have two wireless routers on hand, I only need one to work.

I can get internet through the hard wire connection. I have the Netgear modem hooked up to the "internet" port of the WRT160N router, and the computer is connected to one of the four ethernet ports on the back of the router. I can access both router and modem setup pages using this setup. The Netgear modem is set up for DHCP server, PPPoA encapsulation, and gets its DNS address dynamically from the ISP. The WRT160N is also set up for automatic DHCP configuration. These are the settings given by running each set up wizard, and this has set me up for some DHCP conflicts.

I think that setting up a dual modem/router in transparent bridging mode (PPPoE) in theory turns off the DHCP, allowing the WRT160N to handle DHCP, but I have no luck even getting my hard-wired internet connection to work if I switch from PPPoA to PPPoE mode. Even if I cut the WRT160N out of the loop and connect the computer direct to the DM111PSP. No internet,... Read more

Hey all-

My grandmother's WGR-614 router is really driving me nuts. She has a 768 K DSL service, and normally gets 720-740 on a speed test. Lately, she's been getting 80-90 Kilobits (10-11 KB/sec downloads) after the router is left on for a while. I e-mail Netgear and they say to set the MTU to 1400 and disable the SPI firewall. I always thought with a DSL connection it should be at 1492. I won't be there for a few more days, but does anyone think this will actually work or if not, what might?

Thanks,
Joe

A:Netgear WGR614 v7

When I hear something like "after the router is left on for a while" I think heat is building up and causing a problem. So, my suggestion is to have her feel how warm the router is soon after it is turned on and again when it slows. Also, in case I'm on the right track, make sure it gets ventilation.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try a different MTU, but shouldn't that specification be coming from her ISP rather than her router's manufacturer?

hey and welcome
For a really quick test if you turn off wep can the laptop connect? then re-enable either wep or a different secure mode your netgear supports and try it again. that way you can narrow down whether its wep or connectivity.

hope you get it

Hello everyone. I have been an avid computer user for many years and I know hardware like the back of my hand, but networking is something that I lack knowledge about. So, I figured I'd ask this question here.

I'm not sure if this is an issue with my ISP or my router, but AOL Instant Messenger continually disconnects and reconnects every half hour or so. I have a Netgear WGR614 with all the latest firmware updates and have enabled port forwarding for the required AIM ports. Still, the problem continues. This happens on numerous PC's (there are four being used in the house) and all are using Windows XP Pro w/SP2. It isn't SP2's fault, since it happened with SP1 as well.

If anyone can provide any help I'd be most appreciative. Thanks.

A:Netgear WGR614, AIM disconnecting

Hey,
I have had the same problem with my WGR614v4 router as well. I have been to lots of forums on this topic but no one has any good solutions. Netgear has no idea either even. I have had some success though when I reserved the address too the three computer I have on my network. The AIM disconnects are less frequent but they still happen about every hour or so. I thought the disconnects had something to do with leasing the IP addresses but the lease on the IPs are for three day periods which would rule that out. I am still look for a solution but this problem has been reported with other non-netgear routers.

I have a Netgear WGR614 v.3 and it is hooked to a Westell, from Bellsouth.net. Everything was fine until a friend of mine starting accessing my wifi from her house. The house is about 100 yards a way, +/-. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but I have to unplug and replug the router about 4 times a day. Any advise?

I bought a Netgear WGR614 wirless router and the disc says "this driver is not compatible with your OS...click exit to close this setup" I went to their website and they are "working on it" they have some 64 bit drivers for certain products. Just in case you have 64 bit Vista...don't buy one of these. I just can't believe how long 64 bit OSs have been out and these companies can't catch up. Is it that hard to code these things?

Anyway does anybody know anything different from what I said there? Am I missing something. I don't dare install the 32 bit and hope for the best.

I follow the directions to the T and the software says it can't connect properly. However both computers I wanted to connect are working great. No problems. Should I just go with it? Am I going to run into problems? Thanks.

Last Thursday my internet was acting up so I turned off and on my Netgear wgr614 router (which I have of course done many times before) only this time when I plugged it back in the internet wasn't working through it. THing is my phone line (same as ISP and running through a splitter) is still working. Since then I have tried:

-Powering on and off
-Resetting to factory settings
-Plugging in phone lines seperately, switching with the other phone line etc...
-trying different routers (another netgear and a Cisco model)
-Putting in different settings into IP on the internet.

Eventually I rang my ISP (Eircom) who, after talking to numerous employees and being told numerous excuses, and have now set up an engineer to come out on this TUesday.

Long story short: have I done anything stupid? Or not done anything standard to fix this? I presume it is a service provider issue but if it is my fault I have to pay a hefty amount!

The thing that bugs me is that the internet died the moment I turned off the router...coincidence???

I sort of crashed in another post about this but thought I would repeat it here.

I have internet access through my WAP (second router as a switch) via a wired connection. When attempting to access the network via a wireless connection on a Vista Machine I am presented with a logon pop up. It wants account name, password, and domain. None of these are configurable in the Netgear wireless router admin login screen so what am I doing wrong? That could be a hint for me -perhaps this is not a netgear issue but a new connection issue with Vista? Hmmm.

Direct me to a solution please.

Thank you

Hello smart people!!!

I am a newbie in how to use a router...

I have an unwired network, with its own modem. I bought a router which came with the power adaptor, NO CD OR MANUAL, as it is a 2nd hand one.... I have no idea how to connect it... it shows a name that it is not usually in my wireless networks, but it shows that it is a secure network, which i am thinking it has a ...password??? should I contact the person who owned before and ask for the password, or do I have to install something in the laptop ??

do I have to download any drivers or software??? ( it is the first time i use it)
Please , any help would be appreciated!!!!

thanks in advance

Make and model of the Modem - this sounds like its already a wireless router based on

You would connect your Modem (If a straight MODEM and NOTE a router ) to the internet port
however
I would suggest as its 2nd Hand you do a full factory reset and reset upthe router

You need to log into the router and then you will find a wireless section and the pasword will be there

If the router is still set to default login - connect to the router by a cable and in Internet explorer type
http://www.routerlogin.net
in the address bar

When prompted, enter admin for the router user name and password for the router password,

Then look at the wireless settings for the Secruity/encryption settings

I have spent all day trying to get this to work and I cannot for the life of me find a solution!

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. I have a Virgin Media SuperHub, which is both a wireless modem and 4-port router in one unit.

I have my Xbox 360 connected to the hub via Ethernet cable, and connects to Xbox Live perfectly fine.

My computer is connected to the hub as well, and connects to the internet perfectly.

I have a HomeGroup set up in my network connections, and I am very sure both devices are connected to the same network.

However my computer does not recognise the Xbox being connected to the network, and my Xbox does not show the PC as on the network.

So they are both connected by cannot find each other.

I have spent hours fiddling around with network settings, my SuperHub is set to allow other devices to connect through it. My HomeGroup has all sharing options turned on, I have disabled my firewall, I have gone through countless forums stating that Windows 7 has alot of network sharing options automatically disabled as default, therefore I have manually run the system settings and enabled all recommended processes etc. I have restarted my Xbox and PC a million times, but they still won't find each other.

Has anyone got any idea of why this may be? Or any ideas I may not have tried?

Surely it should not be this difficult to do something which both devices are designed to do as standard.

Any help would be much appreciated!

A:Need info on connecting XBox through router

I am not using the wireless option because my son's xBox does not have wireless access capability. What I did was this: (1) I got an ethernet cable that is long enough to connect from the router to the xBox. (2) connect the ethernet cable to the router and the xBox. My son turned on the xBox and voila he had internet connection. Try it and see if it works. And you have to buy that xBox Live package which gives you access to xBox Live (you have to enter your credit card number and they will charge you every year).

Greetings, My Laptop will not connect to my Netgear Router anymore today. It was working earlier (that's what mum said), and then it wouldn't connect anymore. All I get is the 6 bars that is grey with a yellow sun over it and under the Network Connections it say's its "Attempting to authenticate". I don't know what happen however last night the power went out for a couple of seconds so I don't know if that played a part or not but you can't rule out anything yet. Oh and I did a hard reset on the router and modem. I even went as far as to try advice I found on google but nothing worked. I tried deleting/uninstalling the wireless card under device manager and waited for it to restart but that didn't work. I even tried a system restore and that too didn't work. I also did the whole ipconfig /release, /renew, /flushdns and nothing worked. Before some people ask this question I will answer it: I did connect ethernet cable and it did work just fine. So I'm thinking its more of the wireless card that is messing up or something like that because I can connect using the Ethernet port. I am at a lost of what I can do now. Thanks for the help to all those who reply.

A:Wireless connection not connecting to Router (Netgear)

I did another test in which I used a USB Wireless adapter (54Mbps), and It didn't want to connect. So I'm now pretty sure its a Router problem but I don't see how that could be because I did a hard reset and I did backup recovery before I did a reset so I can restore it.

I currently own a Netgear DG834PN and a Huawei SmartAX MT882. I use the Huawei modem with an ethernet link to my PC to access the internet with Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

I want to supply this internet connection to my computer downstairs (running Windows XP Home Edition SP2) via wireless. I already own a wireless USB adapter for the computer downstairs.

I have previously used the Netgear modem/router to access the internet on my Vista computer and wirelessly on my XP computer. However, I found that my Netgear ADSL connection to the internet is not very fast (by the ethernet link.)

My question is: how can I setup the Huawei modem to the Netgear modem/router so that the Huawei draws the internet directly from the ADSL line and supplies it to the Netgear which, in turn, supplies the internet wirelessy downstairs? I have heard of a bridge mode available of Vista, but I'm not sure whether to take advantage of it.

Thanks for your time

A:Connecting Netgear Router and Huawei Modem

I bought a new E-System Notebook which runs on Windows Vista. My broadband provider is Orange via a Thomson SpeedTouch 330 USB modem. I have also bought a Netgear WGT624v3 Wireless Router but am having problems connecting it to Orange. The instructions all say 'before you start, open your Broadband connection' but, as I have to unplug the cable from the back of my modem (as it has a USB connection) to connect to the router (it has an inbuilt modem), this seems to interrupt the connection. I follow all the instructions - connect the ethernet cable to my notebook, turn on the router and then try to establish the connection. As I use a user name and password for my broadband connection, I go into http://routerlogin.net/basicsetting.htm and enter my user name and password. I set it up to obtain the IP and DNS addresses automatically but to no avail. I canít establish a connection. Can anyone help please and tell me where I'm going wrong? All,

I recently switched to Verizon Fios and the Actionetec router that comes with their system is not compatible with my XBOX 360 wireless adapter. Seeing as my wife is irritated with the ethernet cable running around the house connecting my 360 to the router, I brought back out my old netgear WGR614 v6. I hooked this router up to the Actiontec router that came with Fios and then proceeded to try and login to the netgear router using 192.168.1.1. I am able to do so, and the router is able to find my DHCP and so forth. However, while I am setting up the netgear router, and the router is trying to access the net, I always get the same error Page failure to load and the installation process goes no further.

I have tried powering down Modem, Router and Computer, then switch on Modem, after about a minute switch on router abd then finally boot up computer and still nothing.

Can someone please help me out?

Network configuration:
Ericsson DRG (Digital Residential Gateway), has only Ethernet port
2 laptops connected via wireless b/g
1 Netgear WGR614 wireless router

I recently took this router, but have problem with port forwarding.
Whatever I try to change it's perfectly working on one laptop and won't work on another.

After ipconfig /release /renew I believe it's open for few seconds (uTorrent remains green until I try to check weather the port is open)
+UPnP is ON
+Adresses are static, out of the router's DHCP range (other option is that addresses are reserved by the router, but in the range, works the same)
+Firewall is OFF
+WMM is OFF
+New firmware
+Same programs use different ports on different machines.
-In ipconfig /all on both computers it says "DHCP Enable... No"
Except for the port forwarding, other standard functions (http, e-mail, usenet) work normally on the problematic laptop. Laptop at which everything works normally is similar to another one.
Router tends to "forget" some ports forwarded, or doesn't show it, but upon trying to make the same port forwards proves it is still there in the router (tried resetting few times and doing it from the scratch).
Both are running fully updated Vista 32bit SP1.
How to solve this one?
Can I somehow find with Microsoft Network Monitor 3.2 where is the problem? Or by any other method.
Please help with this one (I'm breaking my head for a full week now).
Thank you all in advance,

I am letting those who are having trouble connecting to Netgear n600 Routers Dual Band Gigabit Router, with their Vizio Smart TV with built in Wi Fi.

I went through a very exasperating day today, trying to resolve this problem.

It took these tech's about 3 hours to resolve my problem. Be prepared to be patient and have them repeat questions over and over, you will not be able to tell what they are saying, they speak fast, do not listen when you tell them to slow down. It was a session of repeating each question and what I needed to to at least 2 or 3 times. My experience was one very unsatisfactory. The only thing is it does work now.

You can get it done by calling support for Netgear, they connect to customer service in India which is a third party company with a completely different name. I paid $39.99 to give them remote access to my PC to be able to connect. It was so difficult to understand what they are explaining with very thick accents from India. The price I had was because my Router was within a 90 warranty period for the software itself, but not any tv support options. They did a remote scan of my system and did in fact connect the Vizio. I could not tell what they were doing to get it going. I would of let anyone know if I knew how they did it. They did mention doing a firmware update and at one point wanted me to connect my laptop directly to the router. I have a setup with two Comcast modems, to acommodate both Internet and telephone service. The Comcast cable goes into a signal splitter. Then one cable goes into a larger modem (Arris Model TM502G), which has 8 lights (power/ds/us/online/link/telephone 1/telephone 2/battery). There is an available, currently-unused ethernet connection on the back. The other cable line goes to a smaller modem (Cisco DPC3000) which has 5 lights (a blinking link/online/us/de/power). An ethernet connection in the back goes to my computer, providing Internet service.

I purchased a Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Gigayte Router (WNDR 3700). Can anyone explain to me how I can hook it up with this setup?

Thanks.

The ethernet cable from the Cisco DPC3000 (which is currently going to your PC), connect from the Cisco into the WAN port of the Router. You then connect a cable from the Router/switch (ie: LAN port) to your PC.

I don't have any necessary information because this is the first time I've ever had an issue with my son's xbox and have no idea how to start problem solving this. What I can do is give you what I do know, the symptoms and see if anyone reading this is able to point us in the right direction.

I am running a Windows 7 HP Pavillion G Series laptop, as well as a Emachines (unsure what model) Windows 7 desktop on a dsl ISP. In the last week, we experienced some degradation of service, what I thought initially was an ISP issue but became suspicious after three days as being an 'in house' issue.

I rebooted our home router no luck. Ran all the scans and malwares to be sure I hadn't picked something up along the way. Nothing showed up. Finally got the ISP to run some very basic tests and it was initially determined that the power cord had an issue (modem powercord) so I drove two hours round trip to get it replaced by the weekend so we weren't without internet.

Came home, plugged it in and still no browsing. In trying the connections, my husband decided to just unplug my son's xbox hard line for ease in trying some other things and immediately we had a strong connection and browsing on both the desktop and the laptop. I had him replug the xbox back in and wham, no browsing. Nothing odd has happened to his xbox, no downloads, no damaging lightening, etc. I mean, obviously something has happened, but nothing I'm capable of ascertaining.

1. I opened a Web browser.
2. Accessed the router (http://192.168.1.1)
3. Logged in the router (User Name = admin and Password = password
4. Wrote down all settings that you entered when previously configuring. (Usually this includes information such as ISP configuration and wireless security settings.)
5. Downloaded the file from the North America.
6. In the web browser of http://192.168.1.1 > Under Maintenance > click Router Upgrade.
7. Clicked Browse and locate the firmware upgrade file and selected the file I just downloaded.
8. Clicked Upload.
9. Waited for the router to reboot.
10. Under Maintenance, click Settings Backup, then click Erase.

Then this is where I started to have problems, the remaining steps I need to follow are:
11. Wait one minute for the router to reboot.
12. Manually enter the configuration information you wrote down in Step 4. Use the Smartwizard, or manually configure as shown in the box below.
If the router has problems, repeat the whole procedure, Steps 1-12.

I've just recently obtained this router, after my last suddenly broke, and it works just fine except when I try to connect to Xbox Live.
I have my Xbox 360 connected to my laptop via ethernet cable and have the laptop's wireless connection shared. This setup worked fine with my previous router.
I followed this guide to try and configure the router: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netgear/DG834G/Xbox_Live_360.htm
And still no joy.
I've also noticed that when I plug the ethernet cable into the laptop (when the Xbox is on), or turn on the Xbox whilst the cable is connected, the laptop loses its connection to the internet yet retains its connection to the router.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The problem is that no matter what we have tried we can't get the NAT off moderate. We have the Netgear set to open NAT, we have UPNP enabled. We set up a static IP on the Xbox, assigned the static IP to the xbox in the router, forwarded ports 53, 80, 88 & 3074, opened the DMZ to the xbox IP, rebooted the router and modem and yet the xbox still reports it can't do full function because of moderate NAT. The problem is that my son can't communicate with his best friend who lives about a mile from us, can't chat with him or play with him. He can chat and play with many others, but not his friend. The only thing that seems to work so far is letting him plug directly into the modem. Everything works great then, but no one else can access the internet. There are 5 of us and someone is usually in need of the internet for email or homework or something so the direct modem connection only works if no one else needs the net. I have spent about 30 - 40 hours of research on this and have tried all suggestions and getting frustrated. I know there must be gamers here who can solve this. Thanks in advance.

DSL modem is Comtrend CT-5071T if that helps.

I've been researching this for the past 3 hours and trying all different kinds of crap to try and get this to work.. Absolutely NOTHING has worked and I'm about to kick something.. Anyway.. How do I do this? I know it said port forwarding but I have no clue what that means? I have absolutely zero experience with Wireless Routers so don't expect me to understand much.. Lol. I do know how to log in and edit the settings and everything though.

I have a Netgear WPN824N Wireless Router which is connected to my Windstream Speedstream 4200 Broadband Router. The connection to my Xbox 360 is a wired one. There are also other devices using the connection simultaneously. My brothers Xbox 360 Kinect is using wireless as well as this Dell Inspiron Laptop.

Things I've tried:

I also changed the NAT to Open under WAN Setup on the Router but this hasn't done anything.
I tried forwarding the ports from my default gateway that did nothing.
I changed the Wired connection port to a static one and forwarded those, nothing.
I tried forwarding the Router inner IP address, nothing.
Tried forwarding the Xbox inner IP, nothing.
Tried changing the Xbox connection settings to its own IP and set the gateway to my wired connection static IP. Then forwarded the new wired connections static IP, nothing happened.

NOTE: When I first installed it the NAT was open and when I just had my Windstream Router it was always open. It wasn't until (not sure exactly) I logged into the R... Read more

So I have AT&T DSL. I bought a Netgear N300 ADSL2+ Modem/WiFi Router that is compatible with my service.

Previously with this Modem/Router it would constantly drop the wireless connection for the Wii I have that was used to stream Netflix.

So recently I bought a Linksys E2500 Router so I could be able to use the Wii, along with 3 other desktops, 1 laptop, and 3 phones.

My ideal setup would be this:
Set the ADSL2+ Modem/Router to be just a modem (I know how to set the option for this)Connect the Linksys Router to be what all the devices connect to wirelessly (this would serve as the DHCP server)
I have read that one of the Routers has to be set to "BRIDGED" mode, yet I don't know which device has to be Bridged

Dear Everybody,

I have been trying to connect to internet Wirelessly without success so far

As it stands now Netgear is installed and running very well on my laptop (IBM ThinkPad R40, Window XP) using an external Belkin USB Ethernet Adapter connected to WGR614 wireless router which in turn is connected to my D-link modem DSL 500B. I am also using a Network adapters Dual-Band Wi-Fi Wireless Mini PCI Adapter (PHILIPS COMPONENTS). When I checked my network connections everything is connected and working (LAN, 1394 Net Adapter and Wireless Network connection). As a result it is working and have access to internet .

But what I have not worked out yet is how to connect to internet directly without using my Belking USB Ethernet Adapter. When I disconnect my Ethernet adapter from my router I still have my router light flashing green (Wireless & internet) which make me believe the wireless adapter is still talking to the router but for some reasons I cannot access to internet anylonger and get the following message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I was told that my pb. lied with my window setup but I have no clue

I have ran a Network diagnostic and have look below about it please.

My son is trying to connect his xbox to our home network so he can play online, and we are having problems. Our network is wired. I have DSL. The connection setup is as follows

From the DSL modem connected to a wireless router (Trendnet)( I use the wireless for my laptop) from the router connected to a 16 port switch. All computers are plugged into the switch.

The network works with no problems. When he connects to the cable in his room 50 to 55 ft away, via cat5e he cannot get a connection. He gets an error cannot connect to network DNS error.

He can bring his XBOX downstairs and plug into the same port on the switch and get a connection.

The cable to his room works fine on his computer.

What can I try to get this connected in his room short of moving the switch etc. to his room.

Thanks

Hi All,

I recently put in a Netgear firewall, configured it, its running no problem. Then I setup a new Netgear N600 wireless router, configured it, gave it a static IP, connected to it, works like a charm. Thing is, when I try to access the web gui I receive nothing.. Is the Netgear firewall taking priority or something? I went directly connected to the netgear wifi router and double checked to make sure that there was no settings restricting administration from wifi users, etc.. Anyone have a similar setup ?

Thanks All

A:Netgear FVS318G FW & Netgear N600 wifi router Can't access webgui

You sure been busy! Have "seen" you all over this place.

Is the FVS318G router connected to the N600 router's WAN port or a LAN port?

If WAN have you changed one of the routers so that they don't both use the same LAN subnet (I didn't check each one, but they probably both default to the same).

If LAN have you disabled the N600's Dhcp server?

Hello, I would like to share my wireless connection off my laptop with my xbox360 so I can go online without having to drag a cable through the whole house.

But when I try and change the network settings to allowing my wireless connection to be shared I get : "An error occured while ICS was being enabled. ICS cannot be enabled. A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP Adressing."

I tried playing around with it and changing the IPs that are given out by my D-Link router to 192.168.0.245 - 192.168.0.254, but had no luck.

Hello,

I have the original Xbox 360 model that doesn't have the built in wireless adapter. To connect to LIVE, I'd like to do what I usually do and connect the ethernet cord to my laptop and my Xbox and bridge the connections; however, this method seems to fail recently, and I'm not sure why. I've tried internet sharing connections, but this causes my connection to lag really badly, and I'd rather fix the bridge than try to share the internet between both devices.

The Xbox says I have an IP address Error preventing me from connecting to the network. I've tried troubleshooting on www.xbox.com and reinstalling the LAN/ethernet drivers to no avail. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit on a Dell Inspiron n5110. The Xbox and laptop are both setup to automatically assign IP and DNS addresses.

Here is the output for ipconfig in command prompt for the connections without the network bridge or ethernet cord connected:

The instructions say to press the WPS button on the extender then the WPS button on the router. No WPS button exists on the router!

The instructions also I can use any wireless network manager utility to set this up. Can't find where this is in Windows 7.

The I pad has found the NETGEAR_EXT address but won't connect. And the light on the extender does no indicate teh router is communicating with it.

This is a problem that I have been having and been trying to get resolved for a month or so.

The system that I have is a home computer, windows xp sp#3 home version IP static, 192.168.230.2 with a subnet automatically set to 255.255.255.0. The second computer that I use is a laptop, windows 2000 pro, sp#4, static ip is also 192.168.230.30 with a subnet set as well as the first computer. I do not have a problem using the crossover cable and transfereing files that way, but now I have a router in the line and wanted to send the information wireless to the computer A through the router. The router has been changed from itís original ip of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.230.70 with the same subnet as the 2 computers.

I can use the command from the computer A and ping the computer A and the router to rule out telecommunication error from one side. When I ping the laptop, nothing. I get timed out. When I do the same on the laptop, I can ping just only the laptop. Then I tried to ping the router, I get timed out as well. Is there anything that I am missing?

I have also shared both drives on both computers as well and the permissions have been set.

The router is a netgear wrg614 that is using dhcp server address within the ip range. Also there is no DSL internet on this rounter, I am trying to use it as a file sharing device between 2 computers.

If the router is using WEP or WPA encryption you will have to enter the paraphrase into each device. The numbers on the back are either WPS password and the MAC address.

Go to the manufacture of your router website and look for "Support" or documents to show you how to do this.

I'm trying to use a router to establish a wireless connection with a machine running XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2. I've connected successfully in the past with other machines (including now, as I write this), so it doesn't seem to be the router or the modem that's the problem. What's more, it's not XP, since there's another machine that can connect fine.

So, I'm stumped. I've contacted both my ISP and the manufacturer of the router, but not much help there.

Any thoughts? The machine sees the wireless connection fine, will attempt to connect and will actually say that it was successful in connection -- but there's no access to the internet and the status is actually limited or no connectivity.

I'm new here and need help. I've spent probably six hours with various tech support people over the last 24 hours and am frustrated.

Bought and installed a new Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR 3400. Modem is actually an ActionTec Gateway GT701 which I have made a bridge to the router (also recently updated firmware too). I can get online wirelessly with several computers and the ethernet connection on the XP works fine too. The MAIN problem is that my wireless signal isn't any stronger than before on the old ActionTec.

One of the reasons we got this is because the wireless signal didn't reach to the master bedroom (using iPad or iTouch). Now it will sometimes show one bar, but is quick to drop it.

I'm so frustrated and don't know what else to try. The router is placed up high in the office and does have to go through a block wall. But I read lots of reviews where the Netgear boasts strong and far reaching signals.

Anything else I can do? Thanks for your help.

A:Solved: Netgear WNR2000v2 Router

Maybe not. I don't know how you or anyone else would have a firmware release before the initial release but this confusing FAQ seems to say something about your issue:

10. Why is the Enable Traffic Meter checkbox grayed-out and unable to setup the traffic meter?

Please note that the firmware version before v1.0.0.34 (initial release) only supports Traffic Meter for WAN types on PPPoE or PPTP mode. Traffic Meter for WAN type with DHCP or Static IP mode will be supported on future FW release. Click to expand...

My advice is to update to the latest firmware, if there is a newer version than what you have, and then reset to factory default settings and reconfigure. If still no good all I can suggest is to call or email Netgear.

Ok, so far Tech Support Guy users have been soooo helpful with all my problems and patient with my amateur-ness
Let's hope you can understand me with this inquiry, and I can understand what I need to do...
I have a Netgear Wireless-N 150 Router WNR1000v2 that my daughter hooked up for me a few months back. Then the ISP provider was "switched" and I'm told that my brother was at my home re-installing the same router. I was out of the country and now that I'm home, we've "switched" ISP's again, and apparently the router needs to be re-installed again...?
I'm not understanding "why" it needs to be re-installed each time... I would've guessed that "once" would be enough (thus being the initial installation) followed by maybe "reconfigured" or something [at most] whenever we switch services... Wouldn't that make sense?
However, if re-installation is necessary, so be it, but that isn't my problem... the original CD seems to be missing (along with a bunch of other CD's) which I'm almost sure my brother "took" because he took alot of things that he won't return... Anyway, is there a way I can "accomplish" setting up this router "without" the original CD?

A:Solved: Help setting up a Netgear router pls

The only value of the CD is the user manual, which you already have online, so no loss there.

Chapter 1 of the manual is probably sufficient for your task. If you can connect your computers to the router by ethernet and by wireless then the only thing you probably have to do is (re)configure the WAN settings--how it connects to your modem.

If you post your modem brand and model we can probably help with the WAN configuration if you don't have the information from your ISP. If you are posting via a connection to your modem you could post the following to give us some more hints ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

As a small background - i moved into my first apartment with 4 other guys and since I brought the routers I'm the one trying to fix them. The router we initially set our place up with was the same one i used in my dorm last year. All year long it was iffy with Windows computers, kicking people off randomly, not letting them connect (myself included) yet my friends mac computers literally never had an issue once. After moving into this apartment I have not been able to connect to this router at all and have been using my upstairs neighbors' the entire semester. We thought it could possibly be because we have 5 laptops, 3 Xbox's and 5 smart phones attempting to access it (rarely all at once its usually probably 5 items total when were all home). So i made a trip home and grabbed a spare router my dad had laying around so we could run two routers. That's where i ran into some problems, well more problems i guess.

Second Router: Netgear WNDR3300

I've been trying for days to log into my router to try to enable encryption, http://192.168.0.1

Each time I get ''log in failed'' System Authentication Failed. Please contact your system administrator for the correct information

I've tried everything suggested on the page below, nothing works.

http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101210.asp

My Internet connection through the Router is fine, no problems, 48.0Mpbs at the moment.

I had previously phoned the support line twice because the encryption code they gave me didn't work, all it did was stop me from connecting to the internet, no joy there , they just talked me through exactly what's on the troubleshooting page above, suggested it was a problem with the wireless card.

I'ts since then I can't connect to the Router.

I've spoken to IBM support, ( lovely people logged the call and phoned me back, cheapest support call ever )
we've tested everything and they assure me it's a problem with the Router, only now I can't get in to change anything.

I've mailed Netgear Support twice, once Saturday then again Tuesday, no reply yet so I was hopeing someone here may have a few ideas.

It's a new IBM Thinkpad R51, running WXP Pro.

The problem is that everytime I want to play on Xbox Live than I get a NAT warning and I cannot join some of my friends games. The wireless router is a Netgear WGR614 v7 and I would like to know how to open the NAT. I am a tech noob and therefore would prefer easy instructions, any advice would be greatly recieved.

Would it be worthwhile to upgrade a Netgear MR814 router to a newer Super G or better. When currently using this router it says it will take me 13 hours to download a 46MB file, watching it transfer at a rate of approx. 1.54 KB/sec. Worked with RR tech support and they say the modem is transferring at correct speed so problem must be with wireless router which I have had for approx. 5-6 years. Problem began when I switched to digital phone and they brought me a new modem.

I search the knowledge base at netgear.com and was unable to find the answer so here I am. I had my netgear WGR614v4 running for like a year, I upgraded the firmware to the latest release .v5_0_07 and my internet connection went to the dawgs, was lagging like crazy. So I attempt to revert back, but now the stupid connection wizard wouldn't allow me to access the router contril panel, and it doesn't see my broadband connection. I tried the reset button on the rear panel with no change. PLEASE I at my wits end here any help would be appreicated. Thanxs

Did you do the full factory reset, holding the button in for the required time? If that fails, I'd contact Netgear's tech support.

I just got a NetGear Range Max Wireless G Router off ebay and am trying to install. Aside from the router all I have is the adapter and some instructions to reset the username and password. How do I set it up? I already looked up the default username and password. Now I need to know what to do next. I am using my other Router from Cox at the moment so I can look this up. I tried plugging in the phone ethernet cable and the adapter cable to computer and router. Then I went to use internet and there was an error message saying something like cannot display page. I typed in website http://www.routerlogin.com and I kept getting error message. How can I reset the previous user name and password if I can't get internet connection? Everything turns on correctly including the router. Maybe there is a simple step that I have forgotten. Anyone got any ideas?
