Just wondered if anyone can sort a problem i have which is strange, yesterday i bought a brand new
NETGEAR DGND3700 Wireless ADSL Router-N600, Dual Band router/modem
when i installed it all it wont detect my internet ( i'm on plusnet fibre ) if that's any help, when i launch my browser and go inside the router by network genie it wont detect the internet, it keep's saying there's no dsl cable plugged into the adsl port (which it is) everything is connected up properly, ive followed all the instruction's as well, does anyone know what it could be?

A:Solved: Netgear N600 router/modem wont detect my internet???

Default font size is much less unpleasant on the eyes.

I've never heard of an ADSL modem or modem/router used with fiber optic. You really have some device that "translates" between the fiber and 2-wire phone cable? Why would you even want to do that?

Hi,

I just got my Netgear router WGR614 v6. I was able to initally access http://192.168.0.1 to finish setup. Setup was successful but then whenever I started my IE, intead of loading my homepage, it will only load the Netgear login page while displaying my default homepage's address. But it has no problem connection to any other website.

So I restarted my laptop and reset my modem and router. After that,
I can no longer connect to http://192.168.0.1. The IE only displays this Dell page: http://www.google.com/hws/dell-usuk-rel/afe?hl=en&channel=us&s=http://192.168.0.1/
stating "Sorry, we couldn't find http://192.168.0.1/. "

I'd like to know How can I connect to http://192.168.0.1/ again because as soon as I unplug the cable from my router to the laptop, I lose internet connection.

Please help. Thanks much in advance!

I've just purchased a Netgear N150 usb wireless adapter to use with my DGN1000 wireless ADSL2+ modem router,
I can access the router's web-based interface wirelessly and wireless networks are visible from the Control Panels Manage Wireless Networks but I can't connect to the internet even though my wired connection works, I have no SP installed on my x64 bit OS.

My ISP's technical support couldn't help, the problem doesn't appear to be the signal strength or the wireless network mode which I have configured as 802.11g or 802.11b, do I need to tweak my routers wireless settings in some way or this is an OS issue?

A:Can connect wirelessly to Netgear router but not to the Internet

Are you saying you don't have SP2 installed? If not, you should install SP1 and then SP2 before trying to troubleshoot the problem you described.

A:dgn2000 netgear router will not connect to internet

That's an ADSL modem/wireless router combination unit, right? Is this your initial attempt to set it up, or was it working previously?

By reset to you mean a simple restart or do you mean a reset to factory default settings?

I have a WGR614 v6 Netgear router. The router was working fine then wouldn't connect to the internet. When it was working properly, only the number 4 was lit. Now numbers 1-4 are lit and it does not reset when I hold down the reset button. Please help!

A:Netgear router won't reset or connect to internet

If you hold the reset button for 15 seconds with power on and it doesn't recovery, I suspect it has simply died. I'm guessing you don't have devices connected to all four ports, right?

After months of paying $55 a month for Comcast cable, I've decided to give cheaper Qwest DSL a try. My cable setup is D-Link DCM-202 cable modem -> Vonage VT1005V voice terminal -> Netgear MR814v2 wireless router. With cable service my Vonage worked fine as did the wireless router/internet for my laptop.

I just replaced the cable service with Qwest DSL (with GT701 DSL modem). DSL works fine if I connect my laptop directly to the DSL modem. When I add the Vonage modem and the wireless router, I can't get to internet anymore (wireless). Vonage still works fine and I can access the wireless router from my laptop, but can't get to internet.

Any help would be appriciated.

Hello,

I have had this router for a few years and I have just moved it to the right place in the house, namely connected to the main phone socket... The desktop connected to the router via an ethernet cable is doing fine... Before I moved the router, my 2 wireless laptops were connecting fine as well... since I did this, they first showed limited connectivity, so I set the IP addresses up manually... they are now connecting to the network/router wirelessly, but I cannot connect to the internet; when I try to open Mozilla or Explorer, I get the message "server not found"... I tried everything, restarted the router, rebooted my laptops, but no luck... My operating system is Windows XP family on the desktop and Professional SP2 on the laptops ... any ideas would be welcome...
Thank you...

By "connecting" do you mean simply broadcasting on the same channel, or do you mean actually communicating with the router (confirmed by ping or accessing the configuration pages)?

Not my week so far yet another problem. Been trying all day to connect to the internet with the above router. Happened accross a screen saying Firewall settings.
It says for the inbound services "BLOCK always" is this my problem?
I have tried to amend this to " ALLOW always" to which the outbound services are already set.
My next problem is it is asking for the inbound services to be adjusted so I have setthe service parameter to ALL, action ALLOW always but now is the problem it wants an address putting into the 4 boxes for the Send to LAN Server parameter
I have tried various setting but to no avail. Exactly where can I get this information from?

Sorry if it's not overly clear but I'm a heathen when it comes to this sort of thing.
Thanks

I have just recently had installed a sky satellite along with the sky+hd service. The sky+hd box is connected to a phone extension line via a filter. All other extensions have filters installed. I have a digital phone connected to the same extension as sky via a second filter. Both filters go into a splitter. Since this has been done I can no longer connect to AOL. I can sometimes connect to the internet via IE but cannot load any web pages apart from those with very few graphics - and loading is excruciatingly slow. If I disconnect the sky+hd box everything is fine. If I leave the sky+hd box connected, switched on but don't switch the Panasonic TV on everything is still fine. The TV is connected to the sky+hd box via an HDMI cable. I am on a BT line, more than 5 miles from the exchange, and according to BT my max available speed is 256k!! I have run broadband speed checker and it gives me download speeds of 464k and upload of 213k. My router is a netgear dg834g and I am running windows vista (SP1 I think).
Any ideas out there? Could it be a bandwidth problem?
thx

A:[SOLVED] aol broadband won't connect, netgear dg834 router, sky+ hd

I don't seem to have 'edit' option yet - maybe because I just joined forum yesterday - so will reply to my own post.
Solution - use TWO filters between extension socket and Sky+HD box. Found this solution on another forum and it works. Apparently using a better quality filter at the main BT socket also works ie. one of those which replaces the faceplate and filters all extensions.

Just abruptly, my internet connecton failed. I have been using the router for about 3 years.
When I go thru the set up process thru 192.168.0.1 and hit the test button, it indicates I am "connected to the server" but it wont go any further than that. No "negotiation" after that. Netgear says my password is wrong. That's not correct.
Earthlink seems to think it's a bad router. I've tried the factory reset and that didn't work

A few days ago my ISP connection dropped out for a few hours. After the modem/router restart I discovered that all wired devices and some wireless devices can connect but a few of the wireless devices are unable to connect and cannot ping the router. As soon as I plug them in with a wired connection they work. The router is a Netgear N900 with the latest firmware upgrade. Both he 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz connections are set to use wpa2 aes authentication. Even when the ping shows a general failure, the router logs show an access denied message for the Mac address that attempted the ping. When I switch to security none connections work fine. There is also a Sony Bravia tv on the network that was connecting fine before the restart but now will only connect when the network security is set to none. None of the router settings changed. None of the pc settings changed.

The network setup is pretty simple.

Adsl2 modem accesses the Internet successfully.
This then feeds into the wan connection of the netgear n900.

The wireless connection sees the router, full strength -5 bars, and asks for the password. After I give it twice, it just sits there and does not connnect.

Tried running update driver, but latest one on sony website is the one I have - from 2005

Running XP Home ed, Service pack 2, up to date.

I have not installed SP3 because of possible conflicts with the AMD cpu chipset, and last time I did it crashed the entire system.

Hi All

Recently purchased an Amilo Li1718 running Vista Premium. On trying to connect wirelessly to my Netgear WGT624 v3 I can see all the details of my wireless network (signal strength etc.), if I drop the channel number from 13 to 11, and disable WEP, but cannot connect at all no matter what I try.

I have no problems connecting with a different (DELL) laptop running XP and a Belkin wireless adapter, and I can do the same (connect) with the Amilo. However, I'm at a loss to find a reason and resolution to the lack of connection using the Atheros WLAN AR5007EG device which comes with the Amilo - I don't think it's faulty as it "sees" the wireless network, and others, OK

I've updated the Amilo WLAN driver, tried a few registry tweaks etc. etc. etc. but have had no luck at all.

Can anyone offer any advice on how I might be able to get the Amilo to connect to the WGT624? I've posted on other forums (Amilo, Fujitsu-Siemens who make the Amilo) but no luck at all. And this lack of connection problem with Vista to a wireless network seems to be problematic from what I've seen on the web (anyone confirm?).

I can't provide anymore details about the Amilo setup as I'm at work, but could post back later if someone is kind enough to answer this query. Apologies if I've missed something obvious, but I've been trying to connect for 1 week and have had no luck at all.

Hi Josh,

Are you able to connect to the Modem, bypassing the router?

You may try a System restore, and restore it to a point were you were able to connect to the internet.

If that didn't work please post an ipconfig /all output for review.

All the computer in the house can connect to the router, but the router wont connect to the internet. Ive tryed a few things, restoring to factory defaults, updating firmware and resseting but none work. I think ive found the problem. When i log into the router the first thing that comes up in the connection wizard, i tryed to use it, it didnt detect what type of internet i have. All the fields that is is trying to connect with are blank. Its basically asking me for:

Mac Address
Host Name
Primary DNS
Secendary DNS

The Mac Adress i can get but how do i get the rest?. Also could there be anything else that could be wrong with the router

A:Router wont connect to the internet

The following procedure should get you a connection with any broadband modem that is configured to use DHCP for the router connection, such as cable modems, and many DSL modems. If you require PPPoE configuration for the DSL modem, that will have to be configured to match the ISP requirements.

Note that the wireless encryption and channel selection will have to be done after the basic wired connection is established, the first step is to get wired connections working.

Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous command output!

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

HI-

I read some of the previous posts but none addressed my issue. I am on a Time -Warner cable modem (motorola surfboard modem). Direct connect to my XP Lenovo - no problem, things work great (connect to the internet, etc.). I have been running on a Linksys WRV54G- no problem, things work great. I try to install my new WNDR3700 (with the Netgear install program) and it auto discovers the computer but it can't connect to the internet and won't let me proceed. I have rebooted all the pieces numerous time and still no connection. I noticed the Linksys was configured as a gateway and when I configure it as a router (one of the parameters on advanced networking tab) it doesn't connect. What gives? I tried looking into FAQ's , etc. and can't get off the ground- PC direct works, Linksys works but Netgear doesn't. Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

Can someone PLLLLLLLLLLEAAAASE help with this.

I have a Linksys Wireless G WRT45G router that every couple of months will stop accessing the internet.

I am about to drive my car over it.

I have a Netcomm DB5 modem connected to the router. This works fine without the router.

I have;
Enable TCP/IP - Obtain IP Address automatically
Updated firmware
Set the IP address to 192.168.2.1 and the modem to 192.168.1.1
Reset router and modem
Powered on and off and on and off and on...

Not too sure about the DNS server settings - these were provided by ISP
DNS Server Primary 203.12.160.35
Secondary 203.12.160.36
Other
PPPoE ADSL2+ Static IP
Also have WAN IP Address

Has previously worked without entering all this garbage - so not too sure. Selected DHCP - Automatically configured on router and worked.
But now.. nothing!

Hi everybody, I have a sony vaio laptop with some pretty basic connection problems. I am trying to connect with wireless in friend's house, entered wep key, recognised and connected but limited activity, unable to use the internet. When trying to repair the network It seems to get stuck when renewing the IP address. It is currently showing a 169. ip address. If i run ipconfig/release it changes to all zeros, ipconfig/renew does nothing. I was previously using aol to connect to the internet and norton. Both are now uninstalled. I would like to use IE to surf and I have panda software to install for security. I have two other laptops which both connect no problem at the same time. Any ideas on how to fix???

Thanks in advance!!

A:Wireless Vaio wont connect to the internet/router???

First thing to try (fixes the issue 90% of the time) - power cycle the router, then try connecting again. If that still fails, disable your security software (temporarily) to rule that out. Finally, can you connect to other wireless routers? Also, double check you've entered the WEP key correctly.

Maybe you just don't give the router enough time to boot up? Most likely your computer gets its IP address and DNS servers from the router. This means that the router has to complete it's boot procedures before your computer asks for that data.

The lightshow showing diagnostics and boot procedure is a good indicator to see whether the thing has done it's stuff or not. It shouldn't takemore than a minute to boot though unless it's some heavyweight corporate class router.

This is something you should try first, if it doesn't help, ask again.

Hi - I'm currently experiencing a problem with my wireless connection.
I can connect fine to my wireless router and the WPA key I enter is accepted, but the router wont allow me onto the internet. I set up my dads Laptop to the router and that works fine on the same software, but mine refuses to. It connects fine through a wired connection though and allows me onto the internet, so there must be something wrong with the wireless connection my side? Any help would be appreciated! I have looked at other posts on the forum but none have been usefull to me

There are two things I would like you try / verify. First: when you are using the wifi connection, did you leave the wired connection plugged in? If so, please unplug and try again.
Second: I see that you have a himachi adapter installed. Do you use Logmein VPN software? Can you uninstall it and see if that helps?

Hi - my first post so please be kind. I have searched for a previous answer, but similar ones all seem more complex problems than mine!

I am running XP on my PC and connecting to the Internet with a Netgear 54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Modem Router DG834G v3.

Most of the time it is fine (and it also runs a second PC upstairs through the wireless network OK).

Then about once or twice a day, the Internet light goes from green to orange, flashing on and off for about 10 seconds, then off altogether for a few seconds, then flashing orange again and so on. At this point if I click on the Internet connection symbol in the bottom right hand corner of the screen (task tray?) it tells me I am connected, but with no speed, and I can't access any websites.

If I try the connection diagnostics in XP, it tells me to check the wires, turn the modem off and on again, but when that doesn't work just tells me to contact my ISP.

Each time this has happened I have tried re-booting the PC, and tried turning the power to the router/modem off for a few minutes and back on, no luck, and then eventually, for no apparent reason, the link seems to recover itself and I am back online. (This morning it took about 30 minutes)

We get our Internet through overhead telephone wires (no cable out here in the sticks) and the best speed I ever show on teh connection status screen is 2.5Mbps, but often much less.

I suppose my real question is this: Is the problem likley to bewith my Router/modem? Or is ... Read more

Hi All

I have a Netgear Router at home, and both my Laptop and Tablet connect to it via WiFi. Now on both the Laptop and Tablet, Internet has recently become VERY slow. I contacted my ISP and they said everything on their side is fine, so it has to be on my side...

What can cause this? I've checked for Malware but the fact that both the tablet and Laptop has slow internet points to the router. I also flushed my DNS on my laptop and booted into safemode with networking, internet still ridiculously slow...

Note, both the laptop and tablet travel with me and did connect to other networks sometimes

Any Suggestions?

Thank You

On the laptop what download reading do you get with Speedtest.net with an ethernet connection and with a wireless connection?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Hi,
I am running windows 7, 64 bit and have been having an issue with my Linksys E1500 router recently that has my ISP, myself and the few people I have talked to stumped.

My router will respond to pings from my laptop both wirelessly and when connected via ethernet cable, and will respond to pings from my ISP, but it won't allow my laptop to connect to the internet. I have rest and reconfigured the router a bunch of times, leaving the MAC address alone, cloning it to my laptop's ethernet port, and cloning it to my wireless cards MAC addresses, respectively. None of that allows it to connect.
Linksys (Cisco) has been useless in helping both via their site and when contacted, encouraging me to pay $40 to talk to someone who MAY be able to help.

Anyone have any ideas why the router is doing this and what I can do to fix it?

Note: The router worked fine for about 4 months, then one morning, couldn't connect to the internet through it. Have to connect directly from the modem via ethernet cable.

Thanks for any insight.

A:Linksys router will respond to pings but wont connect to internet?

Hello gann17 and welcome to the forums!

That's a rather comprehensive list of troubleshooting steps you've performed there. Kudos to you, for the effort you've undertaken before posting here.

I'm the furthest thing from being a Networking Guru;I'm still learning quite a bit daily from the hang ups of my own networking devices, so bear with me here.

I've just two questions for you, with regards to your router and its connectivity.

Have you tried using any other internet devices (laptops, desktops, tablets etc.) with that router to connect to the Internet?

You've also mentioned that you tried to reset and reconfigure the router 'a bunch of times'; did those steps include flashing a newer or older version of the firmware for your router?

Thanks.

Ok here's my story....

Ive had the same internet provider throughout all of this

I bought a belkin n750 wireless n+ router about a year or so ago. It came with a installation disk. I remember when I first hooked it up I had a hard time getting it to connect to the web but it finally did for no apparent reason. Its worked fine ever since up till the last couple days. 3 days ago I started getting lag spikes. everything would be fine then I would get a huge lag spike for about 5 seconds. then it would be fine for 2 minutes then another spike repeat ad nauseam. It made gaming impossible and would cause me to be disconnected from Skype or anything else like that. So I tried just plugging in straight from the modem to the PC and I had zero lag when I did that. So I unplugged the router and hit the reset button. Plugged router back in and it wont connect to the internet anymore. Rebooted everything same problem. Unplugged router 5 more times then for absolutely no apparent reason it connected but I still had the lag spikes and disconnect issues. So I went back to directly connecting the modem to the PC and connection had no lag again. Now I cannot get the router to connect again. Of course I have no clue where the instillation disk is anymore and I cant find anywhere to download the software that came on it. I don't know why after 12 months without a problem my router has started causing lag and now I cannot even get it to connect anymore.

Anyone with advice it would re... Read more

My internet works fine with the wire from modem directly connected into the laptop but when the wire from modem is connected to the router, I am not able to access the internet.
I tried to make my laptop (Running windows 7 64 bit os) as the router and i can easily access net on my other devices.

I thought there is a problem with my router. So I took my router to my cousins place who has the same ISP provider. And to my surprise ,my router worked perfectly there.
I cannot understand what i can do to fix my problem.
My ISP just provides me the wire , the modem is installed somewhere out. I just get the wire from the modem.

My ISP gives dynamic ip addresses. I have to login in the site portal.beamtele.com every time i connect the wire to my ethernet port of the laptop.
I took the router to my friends place sharing the same ISP with the same package. My router worked fine there.
i brought his Belkin router to my home to check. And at my place, it didnt work.

Hey all,
I've been having some problems connecting to the internet with my Netgear wireless router(WGR614V16). Ok so I got a Linksys(befcmu10)
Cable modem. I can connect my 2 computers fine with no router, but when I hook up the netgear all I get is a 192 address with internet icon in the network connections folder. I goto 192.168.1.1 page and it brings me to a setup wizard without having to enter the admin admin.
It try's to detect the internet but can't and shows me a picture on how to set it up. I go back into the Network connections folder and the internet icon has disappeared.
I've tried just about everything I can think of reseting the router unplug modem first router second and turn back on in that order. Restarting the computers, inputing manuel IP addresses for both computers. I still can't get onto the internet with the netgear router.
If anyone can help me with this problem would be awsome.

Hi,

Last night while playing Eve Online my PC crashed. It totally locked up and I had no option but to reset via the power switch.

When it rebooted and I logged back onto my account my firewall (Comodo Internet Security) detected a new network, which was strange, and now I can't connect to my router, I have a wired connection for my desktop. There are no new connections showing in 'My Network Connections' in Windows, just one that I had previously.

The network icon (taskbar) is showing 'limited or no connectivity' and its not obtaining an IP from the router, its all still setup for DHCP. I tried turning the firewall off and that made no difference, I have tried renewing the IP to no avail and I have tried disabling / enabling the network adaptor.

Control panel shows no problems with the hardware, its all installed, working and no issues apparent problems.

If I access the router from the laptop nothing is amiss there apart from the desktop not showing in the 'connected devices list'.

I didn't have much time to investigate last night as it was getting late so will be going back to it when I get home today. I thought I would post on here incase anyone could give me any ideas or possible courses of action.

The router itself is fine as I can connect OK with my laptop (wireless).

I cant remember the exact adaptor type apart from it being an NVidia adaptor on a Asus P5NE-SLI motherboard.

We recently connected the Netgear WNR2000 to our modem. All wireless devices connect just fine, except for our Roku XD. It says there is an activation error. I've reset the box, unplugged, changed the channel via wireless settings. What's next??? I'm quite frustrated and would like to get this to work. The message I get is "activation issue. There was a problem connecting to the Roku server". Argh!! It was working fine with the other wireless modem/router (versalink 327W), but it kept going off (as in the signal would drop and we would have to turn it off/on to get it to work) and connected the netgear router to it today. So now the wireless signal is fine and all other devices connect, but the Roku won't work.

Ok, let me start by saying that I am not that experienced with networking lingo so any responses should be as simple as possible. Pretend you are speaking to a 2nd grader.

I have searched a many of pages but have not found a solution to my problem. I recently purchased and successfully installed a NetGear N600 dual band router (WNDR3400). My desktop has no connection issues. My iPod Touch has no issues connecting to the wireless network. However, my phone (HTC Aria), my work computer (Dell Latitude D630 Win XP) and my brand new HP Slate 500 (Win 7 Pro) cannot connect to the network. The network is discoverable by all the devices but the 3 cannot connect. I removed all security and still was not able to connect. I reinstalled the router and still not able to connect. I restarted the router and still not able to connect. The Dell did previously connect to unsecured networks in my neighborhood but does not seem to like my newly set-up network. I am most surprised that the Slate is unable to connect to the wireless network. I would think something brand new would like that would not have an issue. If I cannot get my wireless router working properly and my other computers able to connect to it, it makes them all pretty useless. I'd appreciate any help anyone may be able to provide me.

Thanks in advance for your time and help!!

update the firmware on your modem, router, and wireless adaptor (if any) and
update the NIC driver.

Then monitor for reliability.

Actually they are breaking the ISP agreement in most countries.
The agreement will state that the broadband can only be used in one premises , this is so that people cannot provide neighbours with wifi ....

so as this is also against our rules - closing post

Hello.

I own two routers - D-Link DSL-504 (ADSL, not wireless) and D-Link DIR-635 (wireless).

The set-up used to be like this:
- Internet (ADSL) cable pluged in DSL-504 router
- PC connected to DSL-504 via Ethernet port
- DIR-635 connected to DSL-504 (Ethernet port to 'Internet' port) - DSL-504 works as a 'modem'
- Laptop wirelessly connected to DIR-635

Everything has worked (note: it wasn't me who set this up).

Unfortunatelly I have reseted the DIR-635 (wireless router) because of some troubles. Now the wireless router doesn't connect to the Internet. I can connect either computer via cable with the first router and it works like a dream. Computers can also see the DIR-365 router when connected to it via cable, but it does not see the Internet.

I've switched the setup on and off several times. Cables work. Computers work, they can see Internet from other sources.

I guess I need to configure the wireless router in some certain way, but I really have no idea, how.

I'd be grateful for your help.

A:Solved: Router cannot connect to Internet (via another router used as a modem)

Probably IP Address conflict as both D-Links would usually use 192.168.0.1 for default internal (LAN) IP.

You would need to change the LAN IP address of the DIR-615 to another subnet such as 192.168.2.1 for a modem LAN port to router WAN (Internet) port connection unless the DIR-615 can be set as an access point. Will need to check the User Manual to see. Will pull up a PDF and check.

Another option would be to set up using the following method by John Will.
Connecting two soho routers in a network
Tutorial from Johnwill from the Networking Forum

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

I dont know what happened!!We have the netgear WGR614 54 MBPS router(yeah i know its cheap)..with the 54 MBPS usb adapter and wireless PC card...and in our previous house all three worked together in harmony. We have all dell computers...one dell laptop and one dell desktop, both with windows XP...and just moved and brought a new dell desktop computer that has Windows XP, same as the old computer. We installed the netgear router software to the new computer, but unlike before, we can only get my dell laptop and the new dell desktop (thats connected to the router)to get online. the slightly older dell desktop that has the USB adapter attached cannot pick up the signal from the router at all. We tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software...but no luck. I dont understand it because the piece was working just fine up until the day we moved. Could it be a problem with switching from Verizon dsl to Comcast broadband...or maybe a new problem with the computer??Please help.

The easiest way is to run the CD that should have come with the Router, if you havent got it then you will have to configure it manually.

Full instructions can be found on the netgear website here.

Help me please! First of all, I'm not very good with computers and all of the terminology. I have Virgin Media connected and recently bought a Virgin Media Netgear Router - WGR614. I have tried and tried to connect this and configure the router to my laptop but it just won't work! It did come up on my list of available network connections at one stage but could not 'acquire the network address'. Now I can't even get it up on my available network list.

I have reset the router many times, disconnected and connected everything. I'm thinking maybe I have to do something else on my pc to allow the wireless connection? I have used wifi before on this pc and have had no problems at all.

Virgin Media will not help at all since I already have an internet connection so I don't know what to do. Can anyone help me?

Recently switched to DSL from Cable. Ironically, the problem was present even when I had cable, but now I must solve it once and for all.

I was able to get my DSL connection working (Westell 6100 modem) and imy desktop is wired to my router (Netgear WGT624 V3). However, for some reason, my laptop is unable to connect wirelessly. This was also happening when I had cable as well.

I know it is not the laptop, since I bring it to work and other places, and it connects fine. I checked to make sure my security settings match those of the network, and they do. I even tried resetting the router, taking off encryption, and none of those have worked. By the way, the name of my network is listed when I "View Available Networks". It's just that when I try to connect, it doesn't connect. I am using an Intel program to control the wireless adapter, instead of the Windows-based one. I even switched it off and tried the Windows default one, but that still doesn't work.

I really don't know what to do. Any suggestions? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I recently switched internet service providers from AT&T to Time Warner and ever since I have been unable to connect to my Netgear router with my computer's wifi. However, I have successfully connected my TV wirelessly to said router. One other note, my computer's wifi seems to recognize that the netgear router is there but it just refuses to connect me to the internet. Please help me rectify the issue, much appreciated!

Hello,
I have a broadband connection with Tiscali (UK) via a USB ADSL WAN adaptor modem. I have had over months now terrible problems with the connection dropping out. Sometimes it will stay up for a day, sometimes it's dropping every hour or so. Very annoying. What's more annoying is that it will not automatically reconnect. If you set it to redial automatically you get a no dial tone error message and you are forced to reboot to get the connection back up. If you leave it for more than an hour, then try to reconnect it usually will. This is not an automatically always on connection from the moment you turn your machine on, you have to manually open the connection. XP classes it as a dial up connection really with ADSL settings.

I've done everything Tiscali has suggested, all the obvious stuff (RJ11 cabling all the way to the modem instead of phone extension cable part of the way etc. etc.), but this is doing my head in now. Good and proper.

So, I've acquired a Netgear DG834G V2 router in the hope that I can get an always-on connection and if this doesn't solve the problem completely, at least if the connection drops out for whatever reason, when the connection comes back it will be resume automatically, so if I'm downloading or whatever it will just carry on.

But I've hit an immediate problem. I've already been using it as my network hub without any problems for a few weeks. But when I tried to go to http://192.168.0.1 as mentioned... Read more

So does that mean you have the IP of the "machine" (your PC??) manually set to 192.16.8.0.1? You need to change that (on the PC) to either be any IP addr, other than 192.168.0.1, in the same subnet or set the PC to automatically get IP from the router.
The DG834G factory setting should be DHCP server by default.

Hi everyone!

I've come across a problem connecting my laptop to my Netgear R6300 router. It all started out of the blue, yesterday. For some reason my laptop refuses to connect to the router. It sees the SSID, but when you try to connect it will error out stating windows can not connect to.

I tried power cycling the modem, router, laptop. No dice there.
Tried resetting the router. Nope.
Tried using a restore point to go back to before I updated recent windows updates. Didnt work.
Tried uninstalling the wireless card through the device manager, rebooting, reinstalling. Didn't work.

I'm currently on my desktop, which is wired. No issues there. Also my tablet and cellphones connect to the router without any problems. It's only the laptop. This lead me to believe possibly a faulty wireless card inside (which would suck). So I setup my cellphone as a hotspot. Sure enough, the laptop connected just fine!

Something is getting in the way of the laptop and router not playing nice with each other.

Running Win 7 64bit
Norton Antivirus

Any other ideas?

It sounds like you covered most of the obvious problems here.

Did you try deleting the old wireless connection profile then create a new one with the current SSID, password etc. You can do this through the Network and Sharing Center, then left side go to "Manage Wireless Connections" Sometimes the profiles get corrupted and need to be redo... Read more

Our current Technicolor Modem/Router does not have the wifi range to reach my laptop at my apartment at the house's backyard I recently bought from CompUSA a NetGear NR2000 v3 router which has a repeater function. But so far the results have been less than stellar so the question is do this router only works as a repeater of the same model and brand of router or is it even possible for it to work with a modem/router combo unit such as the Technicolor?

A:Is it possible to connect as a repeater a Netgear 2000 v3 router to a DSL modem?

If it has a Repeater mode it should work regardless of the brand of the other WAP or wireless router (unless the manual says that it doesn't). But can be much tougher to get working. Do you have it positioned at a place where the laptop gets a strong signal?

Is your problem with getting the Netgear to connect/repeat? Or its signal strength is too low when you try to use the laptop at the desired location? Or ... ?

I have SBC Yahoo DSl and am using the modem Speedstream 5100(not 5100b). I am currently having trouble successfully connecting my modem to the router and having connectivity to any computer on the network. I have read countless forums and guides about reconfiguring your modem or router to Bridge mode or something like that. All usually say something about connecting directly to your modem and typing "192.168.0.1" or .254.254. I've tried them all and none of them will ever connect to anything(nothing shows up).

I have also read that it is difficult to connect a router to a Speedstream 5100. Please someone help me!!! this is so frustrating!!

Switch off all the devices modem, router and computers also unplug their power cables.
Wait at least 30 seconds.
Plug the power cords back in, but don’t switch them on.
First turn on the modem and then wait for a few minutes for it to settle and all the lights to become stable.
Next switch on the router (if a seperate device ) and then wait for a few minutes for it to settle and all the lights to become stable.
Now turn on your computer, You should now be able to access the Internet.

Hi there,

It's my first time on this forum so would be delighted if anyone could help me PLEASE! I have just bought a brand new Sony Vaio laptop VPCEH2. I have tried to connect wirelessly to my Netgear router (DG934G). The router and broadband is supplied by Sky. The laptop is running Windows 7. The router is sending a wireless sending fine to our desktop and two smartphones but the Vaio is unable to connect.

The Vaio finds the signal which is says is excellent but does not connect. Using an ethernet cable the internet connection is fine. I have been on the phone to Sky for nearly 2 hours across two nights and they have given up. We have tried setting up a new router password, disconnecting and reconnecting, establishing a connection in the Network and Sharing Cente using WPA security with no joy. I asked them if the router needed a firmware upgrade for Windows 7 and they were adamant that it did not - the firmware version is currently V2.02.44. I have checked the Windows 7 compatibility listings for Netgear routers but couldn't find the DG934G (or the DG834GT - which I believe is a newer version), listed.

The funny thing is that when Sky did help me to create a wireless connection in the sharing centre is did work for around 30 seconds where I was able to access around 5/6 webpages. The browser then stopped working and the connection was lost (with yellow warning triangle across the signal to bottom right of screen).

I click and it can't connect. Now I am reading a bit on netgear's site that they may not be compatible with 8.1? I can't even find AC 1450 in the list to cross reference Is there another name for this router than AC 1450, is that Costco's branding?

Hello

I recently got the newest NETGEAR router device, the NETGEAR Nighthawk X8 AC5300 Smart WiFi Router, and I am unable to connect to the 5GHz WiFi it provides on its Tri-band WiFi. I am currently only on its 2.4GHz WIFI, which I assume is lesser than the 5G. I am able to connect to the 5GHz on my smart phone, so I know it exists from the router. I am running a windows 8.1 currently on a desktop on an HP Envy 700-213 Desktop PC.

Edit: My computer supports 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n radio types - which supports 5GHz WiFi
My adapter is a Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter

Any ideas for why I am unable to connect to this WiFi?

A:Unable to connect to 5GHz Wifi on NETGEAR Tri-Band Router

The most likely explanation is that the wifi adapter in your HP Envy 700-213 doesn't support the 5Ghz band.

If you really want to connect at 5Ghz you will need to get a new wifi adapter for your computer.

Thanks,

I just bought a new laptop, and was going to set it up to my home wireless network(which already has 2 laptops connected through wireless and one desktop through a cable) but every time that I try to connect to the router it asks for additional log on information(Username, Password, Logon Domain) which are not configured for the router, and there are no passwords(that I'm aware of, since I never set them up) for the home network. I've gone into the router and set it to allow my new computers wireless card to access the router, but it continues to frustrate me.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Any ideas ?

One of the security modes you can setup on your router is "WPA-PSK (TKIP) + WPA2-PSK (AES)". It provides compatibility with devices using TKIP or AES, so should work with your card reader..

Hi guys

Have often browsed this fount of knowledge without actually posting but now I am stumped and really need help...

I have recently moved house and had new broadband installed complete with new Netgear N300 router. Now I am unable to connect to the internet even though my desktop says it can see the wireless network (though it does say it is unidentified). The network connection diagram in Vista suggests the problem is between the internet and the router but I know this is not the case as I have successfully connected other devices via the wireless network. I know the router is N and the card is G but the router should still work with the older card, right?

I have tried to download the latest drivers from Belkin for a version 8 F5D7000 but for some reason they wont install (when I click on the install file it thinks for a second then does nothing). No idea why this is the case.

Could it be anything to do with the fact that the card, being older, is WEP and my router has no option for WEP, only WPA onwards? If so, would the latest driver from Belkin in effect 'upgrade' my card to allow it to carry same encryption as the router?

If I can't solve then I'll no doubt end up buying a new PCI card but I didn't want to have to bother right at this moment.

Any help would be fantastic!

Cheers

Matt

So I have AT&T DSL. I bought a Netgear N300 ADSL2+ Modem/WiFi Router that is compatible with my service.

Previously with this Modem/Router it would constantly drop the wireless connection for the Wii I have that was used to stream Netflix.

So recently I bought a Linksys E2500 Router so I could be able to use the Wii, along with 3 other desktops, 1 laptop, and 3 phones.

My ideal setup would be this:
Set the ADSL2+ Modem/Router to be just a modem (I know how to set the option for this)Connect the Linksys Router to be what all the devices connect to wirelessly (this would serve as the DHCP server)
I have read that one of the Routers has to be set to "BRIDGED" mode, yet I don't know which device has to be Bridged

Hi, I'm likely missing something obvious and hope one of you can point it out to me.

I have a wireless router (dir-655) that plugs into a wired router (604 I believe) to my cable modem.
Never had a problem for years, until today where I notice that on one of my wireless" PC's... I had connection to my network, but NOT the internet.

PC 1 (wireless)
192.168.0.104
Win7 64bit
can ping 192.168.0.2 (wireless router)
can ping other PC/Laptops 192.168.0.1xx
cannot ping 192.168.0.1 (wired router)
... hence no internet

Laptop (wireless)
192.168.0.101
Win7 32bit
can ping 192.168.0.2 (wireless router)
can ping other PC/Laptops 192.168.0.1xx
can ping 192.168.0.1 (wired router)
... hence working internet via same wireless/wired setup as for PC above.

So I figure the problem is not router based, but on my PC.. and this suddenly appeared last night. No updates or new installs that I can think of, maybe a Windows update I didn't even notice.
Internet works from all wired PC's, and my other wireless laptop.

I tried disabling the windows firewall on the PC... didn't change anything.
I tried upgrading the wireless router firmware in case that might help, didn't change anything.

Any thoughts on what I am missing here?
Thanks,

Our internet connection recently went out during a storm an when trying to get it working again, I've run into some problems. As of now I am able to run the ethernet wire from the cable modem to the computer and connect to the internet without problems. However, when I try to connect the modem through the router (a D-link DI-254) to the computer, the internet doesn't work. The computer says it's connected but websites will not load at all. I have tried resetting the router and have also went to the http://192.168.0.1 address and ran the setup wizard, but I still can't get it to work. Again, when the router is bypassed, the internet connection works as it should. My main concern is getting the connection wired through the router so the wireless internet as well as the connection on the desktop will function properly.

Also, when the connection is re-routed through the router, the wireless network I established can be found but when I connect a laptop to the network, pages will not load. I have tried everything I can think of, so hopefully someone else has some input.

Thank you

Hi,
I can connect with no problems through my ordinary internet cable but not when I instead connect it to the router and I put a cable between the router and computer. I can access the router settings by going to 192.168.1.1 but I don't know what to change. It's a Linksys WRT54GL and I'm on a windows vista. I've tried stuff like reseting the router and doing ipconfig /flushdns but no success.

I have scoured the web for the past week and cannot find a solution to my problem. I can connect to my Netgear wireless router from my room PC but cannot connect to the internet. I can't use Messenger nor any other web based programs. When I open internet explorer, even though the icon in the tray says the computer is connected to the internet, 56mbps, signal good etc., i still get the "Cannot display webpage. You may not be connected to the internet, there may be a typing error, or the webpage may be experiencing technical difficulties." I have tried release/renew in cmd. I have tried disabling and then enabling windows zero configuration in services.msc. I have opted to use windows wireless software instead of the netgear software that came with the router, and I have tried connecting to my neighbour's open wireless connection (and this shows me that it's definately a computer problem and not a router problem) and thus far nothing has even come close to working. Every other wireless device in my house can connect to the router and internet. I've used an Ipod touch to connect and a friend's laptop. I also have a computer connected to the router through an ethernet cable. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm at my whits end with this.

Compact Wireless - G USB Adapter

I have been successfully been using this combination to connect my older laptop to the internet wirelessly. However yesterday it stopped working. I installed the drivers for the USB adapter and when I did the software told me it could see the router, but not the internet.

Next I hard wired everything Cable Modem>Router>Laptop and still could not get internet access. The "internet" light on the front of the router is flashing very fast and constantly. I reset the router by pressing the button on the back as instructions suggested, but still no internet.

I did connect the Cable Modem directly to the laptop and everything worked fine as indicated by this message.

Any suggestions or has the router gone belly up?

Dear Experts,

Need your help on an issue I ma facing since I have moved to cable internet.

Originally, I had a DSL service and my netgear router was working properly.

Very recently, I moved my internet to cable internet and phone services to Vonage. So I had a new Cable Modem and Vonage Device, but the same wireless router.

After configuring these devices as required in the installatio guide, my vonage is working and internet when connected directly to the modem and to the Vonage device is working fine as well.

However, as soon as I bring netgear wireless router into the loop, the problem begins. I cannot anymore connect either wired or wireless through the router except when connecting via VPN.

When I connect to my office network using VPN through the same wireless router it connects and everything works fine. But when outside of VPN, the internet doesnt work through the router.

I have set and reset my router configurations multiple times, but the same issue. The IP and other settings are chosen by default by the router and there is nothing out of the ordinary as far as setup is concerned.

I am thinking of buying a new router to resolve this but wanted to run this issue by this group of experts.

Please let me know what information can I provide you for your analysis and reference.

Thanks,
SJ

Its been working great for about 3 weeks now, but yesterday when I tried to get on, it said the router had "no internet access" and I haven't been able to get it to work since.

I have restarted the router, the modem, and my computer several times and reset the router to factory settings to no avail. I thought it might be a problem with comcast (maybe the storms knocked something out) but the modem is working fine; TV and phones still work and all of the lights on the modem box (power, DS, US, Online, ect.) are still on. I called comcast and they said they have registered no issues in the area.

Right now I'm connected to the internet through the modem. I have absolutely no idea what the issue is. I've tried everything I can think of so I'm hoping somebody can help me out. Hopefully I don't need to buy a new router.

Here's everything I can think of that might help solve this:

-Router: Belkin N750 db Wireless N+ Router, Model: F9K1103V1
-Serial#: 121138GG109403
-Purchase date: ~1/5/2012

I think I have a problem with my router. I used to have a Belkin N1 and that worked fine until it broke. So temporarily I'm having to use a Pluscom one I found lying around, but the problem is that I can connect my laptop to the router, but I cannot connect the router to the Internet. I'm using Windows Vista and I have WiFi built into my Sony laptop. The signal strength is consistently on Excellent. In the "Network and Sharing Centre", it clearly shows that my computer is connected to the router, but the connections between the router and the Internet is broken (shown with a red X between the two icons). If I try to connect to someone else's network, I can connect to their router and the Internet, so I'm assuming I'm going wrong with my router somewhere. Anyone have any ideas about what I could do to resolve this issue? Any help would be much appreciated.

We got a new ISP today and now I'm trying to get the router to work but it's not working with me. The modem works when hooking the computer up directly through the ethernet cable but when I try the wireless router it's no bueno. It's running through a Static IP address.

I get full signal from the router but I don't get any internet through it. My IPv4 is "Local" and my IPv6 is "Limited." Disabled the IPv6 but it didn't really change anything. I looked through a few other threads with similar problems but none of them really fixed my problems.

1) Tried the Winsock reset
2) Tried disabling the security
3) Made sure the cables weren't faulty
4) Factory reset on router
5) Firmware upgrade on the router
6) Ipconfig /renew
7) Tried automatically finding the IP address/DNS and my own set IP address/DNS's

Here's my ipconfig and pings:

Hi,
I've got a terribly frustrating problem with my internet. I'll give the basic background first, the system that is having technical problems runs vista 32, and my ethernet cord that runs to it is working properly (i tested it with other computers).
My router is qwest's actiontec GT701WG, i also have another router that's a leviton gateway (which connects my other computers to the internet).
If you need more specs, just let me know.
The problem is this: I've have a connection of 4 computers running through the leviton gateway, which connects to my qwest router, which connects me to the internet. For a few years now, this connection has worked great, no problems like this before. But just today, one of my computers couldn't connect to the internet, or to any of the routers. It's LAN line was receiving a ton of packets, but it says it wasn't sending a single one. My first thought was that it was just a small glitch so i restarted everything. Unplugged all the cords to my routers as well, still nothing. Then i thought the problem was my ethernet adapter, so i tried an ethernet to usb adapter, and that adapter didn't work either. So finally, i plugged this computer through the usb line of the actiontec router, and it still wouldn't connect to the router (i use this usb line for one of my other computers in my house so i know it works).
I don't see how it could be a hardware problem, and i can't imagine what kind of so... Read more

default gateway- 192.168.10.1

i have upgraded the firmware for the router to v1.8, disabled ipv6, turned off all firewalls, unplugged and reset both router and modem, and restarted computer with everything hooked up and turned on.

I have been trying to connect my Dlink wbr 2310 wireless router to the internet.

First off it worked earlier today when i had verizon as my ISP. now that i got Comcast which has a different modem it doesn't want to work. I can connect to the router (192.168.0.1) but when i try to go to a website it said "server not found". so right now the only way i can get on the internet is if i connect the computer directly to the new comcast modem. once done i want the computer to be connected to the internet wirelessly. Does any one know any way to get the wireless router to work again?

i have been working on it for 3 hours now, here is what i have done. cycled the router with modem many times, check computer network setting, checked router's firewall and wireless settings, and have disabled the firewalls on the computer.

Dlink router works
Comcast modem works
Computer connects to Comcast modem
Computer connects to Dlink (wireless)
Computer window vista

I wanted to put a password on my router.

When I tried to login, I tried various generic usernames and passwords, but it would not accept any of them. The label on my router (Netgear WPN824 v2) says the default username is "admin" and the default password is "password." I do not recall ever giving it a password. Anyway, they did not work.

I figured I had to start all over, so I reset the router with a paper clip and I went to 192.168.1.1 and it would not let me on without a password.

I put in the installation CD, but it will not run. I even tried to install it on a laptop I have, but it would not run on that either.

And now? My router won't access the internet at all.

Am I missing something really obvious here? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

When I got my mom a new computer (without wireless capability), I took her d-link dir-615 router (which was working perfectly with her wavecable box) to use so I could connect my laptop wirelessly. I was previously using a linksys router connected to a qwest cable modem for my desktop and xbox. I can't get the dlink router to connect to the internet through the modem. A:Solved: router won't connect to internet through modem

Here is my issue: My modem CAN connect to the Internet but my router CANNOT. I've called my ISP (Brighthouse) and went through a whole process of bypassing the router, restarting the modem for 2 minutes, and restarting the router for 30 seconds. Then I even got a little help from the router's maker (Linksys) by switching the IP address of the router, they said this could be the issue if my modem had the same IP address. I switched it to 192.168.2.1, but still no luck.

I'm drawing a blank on this. I think I have tried everything, even buying a new router. Any help would be far-passed appreciated because I do not know what to do now.

The new router is a Linksys E1000. I haven't got the specs of my modem yet, I'll update this post or reply later with them. If I need to post anymore info please specify what and how, thanks.

Have recently purchased a new computer with Windows 7 and an Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network card and a netgear router.

I am able to connect to the router and the strength of the signal is 'excellent' however I am not able to connect to the internet and get 'no internet access' as a message.

I can cinnect to both the router and internet with a desktop computer and a different lap top and can connect to the internet on my new computer when wired directly into the router.

I have tried disconnecting and connecting etc.

Many thanks

Hi all.
I am trying to connect my laptop via LAN to the router(ADSL line),but I have no internet.
I can see my router's interface by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar,and I can see the LAN icon that says "connected"
I can see that the router is normally connected to the internet, and I do have internet on my other laptop.

I have disabled windows firewall.
I disabled and reenabled the lan connection, nothing happened.
I turned on and off the router, nothing.
I can reach the router's interface, but no internet:no browsing with either browser, and no updates possible for spyware doctor I just installed.

Keep in mind:
I did connect wirelessly to the internet with the laptop in a friend's house few days ago.

Any ideas?

I have recently been having a strange issue with my computer. For some reason, i can no longer access the the internet through my wireless router. I have tried the network diagnostic tool in Windows 7, and it claimed that my drivers needed to be updated. I updated the drivers, and still no connectivity. I have tried pinging my router/gateway IP and i recieve "transmit failed. General failure" message. I have retried pinging it using a different ethernet cable and i still have the same error message. My roommate who i share internet with, is able to connect to my network and the internet with no problem. Also, i used to be able to acess the internet using my phone as a hotspot. That no longer works either. The only changes to my system that have happened prior to this problem occurring is that i removed several viruses from my computer, and ran a program to clean my registry. I think there may be a chance that a virus somehow interfered with my network settings. Any suggestions?

A:Solved: Can't Ping Router, or Connect to Internet.

"General failure" is often caused by a misconfigured or corrupted firewall. But viruses and the "program to clean my registry" also have to be considered serious suspects.

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.
