Connection Problem - Multiple Devices over Wireless

Q: Connection Problem - Multiple Devices over Wireless

Good Afternoon,

The small office where I work has 1 wired desktop, 1 desktop connected over wireless, 2 laptops connected over wireless and two iphones that are always connected to the internet. Until about 12:45 pm EST the wireless internet was working fine, at that time the wireless went down. However, the wired desktop has had no trouble connecting to the internet. Please help, we need to be up and running and our IT guy has disappeared off the face of the earth! Thank you!

The router is a Cisco WRVS4400N. It is one MacBook Pro, a Toshiba Laptop and a Dell desktop that is connected by D-Link DWA-131. Its a Comcast X-Finity 56 MBPS connection. (we're really close to an airbase).

A: Connection Problem - Multiple Devices over Wireless

Reset or power cycle the router. Can you still detect the wireless network? If so, can you connect to it? If so, can you communicate with the router via wireless?

Hello, two days ago suddenly my Internet wireless connection stopped working. No Internet at all. After some research, it turned out that it was (and still is) working on one device (the iMac I am typing this message on), but has completely shut down for the other devices, for example iPads, a laptop, etc.

So far, I have unplugged the power of the wireless router, turned it back on after giving it a rest, pressed the WBS button, but there has been no progress. The connectivity is obviously up and running based on the one device. What actions should I take? Thank you in advance.

A:Wireless Connection Stopped Working for Multiple Devices

Make model of the router. If you plug laptop in via a cable can you connect, can devices see the router and what happens when you try and connect ie error message note if you have done a factory reset the password for wireless will go back to default or wireless could be disabled. Can you login to the router and confirm the wireless is active

Hi guys,

Our ISP has recently changed our router from Prolink H6300G to Prolink H5004N.
Our Prolink H5004N is wired to the phone line.
All devices connect to the internet via WLAN.
No devices are attached to the router via LAN.

The unusual problem is, some wireless devices connect to the internet just fine, others connect intermittently.
Below are the list of devices:

ASUS Notebook PCs x 2 (connect)
MSI Notebook PC (connect)
Apple iPad2 (connect)
LG LED SmartTV (connect)
Sony PlayStation 3 Slim (connect)
RedFox Netbook (intermittent)
Samsung Tablet PC (intermittent)
Sony XPERIA Smartphones x 3 (intermittent)

It is not that the red devices could not connect, they do so, but a very irregular and on/off internet connection.

I am stumped by the variety of devices that constantly connect and those that do not.

Does changing from G to N may in any way cause this?

A:Unusual Wireless Internet Problem with Multiple Devices

All devices you listed are connected WIRELESS to the same Prolink H5004N?

Try to move these devices closer to the wireless Access Point (built in router). Just for a test
RedFox Netbook (intermittent)
Samsung Tablet PC (intermittent)
Sony XPERIA Smartphones x 3 (intermittent)

Does that fix anything?

Two days ago, I lost the internet wireless connection on my laptop. I thought it was a problem with my laptop and asked a question about that here
(http://forums.techguy.org/networking/891776-help-laptop-cant-connect-internet.html)

However, I just read something on the GeekSquad site about a woman who had trouble making more than one wireless connection. And now I wonder if that's the problem I'm having. We have four computers, three of which use (or try to use) wireless connections.

Here are some facts:
My laptop has Windows XP. It has been working fine since I got it about 3 years ago, no problems connecting.

My son's desktop is 6 months old and used to able to connect at least wirelessly. Then it quit. We tried cable, but that didn't work either. We took it in to get repaired and it was supposed to be fixed with both cable and wireless access. Cable worked; wireless didn't. He has Vista on his computer.

My son got a laptop for Christmas. His wireless worked perfectly, no problems, although we didn't set it up for our secure network until a several days ago. His laptop has Windows 7.

Then as I said, my laptop quit being able to access the internet. I couldn't get it to connect at all, but now it will connect with a cable.

We used to have two desktops that connected to our router, but that was quite a while ago. My laptop would also connect then. All three of those computers had Windows XP. We had a linksys router then. Now we have ... Read more

Hi,
Just got my new Acer laptop going.
Then I wanted to connect to my router with another laptop (running Win XP) but didn't get connected.
When I turned off the internet connection of the new laptop running Win 8, restarted my router then it was possible to get a connection. Also with another laptop running Linux, same problem because Win 8 was on the net.
So why does Win 8 prevent the other two laptops from logging on?
There is also an Ipod in the house, the three machines, (laptops running Win XP, Linux and Ipod) used to work together just fine, but the new laptop seems to hijack for some reason the wireless router?
How can I get this problem solved?
Yes, everything is DHCP.
Could this have anything to do with the IPv6 protocol from Win 8 maybe. or not?

Thanks, Cloggie

Hey guys, awesome site and thanks for the help in advance.

I have kind of a strange situation with my wireless. I have a modem and wireless router on my top floor, and I am trying to get internet access to my xbox 360 without buying the wireless adapter if at all possible.

Two things I want to know about, Internet Connection Sharing and multiple routers. I am not sure if the multiple routers is a possibility, but I know Internet Connection Sharing used to work, and no longer does now. So,

Internet-> Modem-> Wireless Router-> Laptop (Vista)
1.) I have a laptop connected to my wireless, and plug it into the xbox with a network cable. When I first got it, this worked perfectly after I simply enabled Sharing in the connection settings. After I reset the modem and router for some other stuff, it stopped working. ICS is still enabled in settings, and my xbox fails finding an IP address for some reason.

I tried the settings on automatic and it does not work. The xbox has an option to input custom settings like IP, subnet mask, gateway, DNS 1/2, and MAC stuff.

What could be stopping the ICS from working like it did before? What settings should I input and what steps should I go through?

2.) I have an extra old wireless router laying around... Can you connect a wireless router to the internet through wireless internet? Or can I share the connection from laptop->2nd router->xbox?
ICS sounds like the easiest option because it used to work with the same setup I have... Read more

A:Wireless Problem... Internet connection sharing or multiple routers possible?

Forget ICS and just bridge the two network connections on the remote box that is connected to the XBOX. It's much simpler and it will eliminate the NAT layer of ICS from interfering with the XBOX connection.

I can connect to the Internet with my wireless router just fine, but only certain websites will load normally.  So far, these include Google, Gmail, Youtube, Facebook, and Wikipedia.  Most other websites just show that they are loading forever and nothing ever comes up.  I've already tried power cycling/resetting everything.

As an example of what it says when I ping a website that doesn't work:

"C:\WINDOWS\system32>ping www.reddit.com

Pinging www.reddit.com [198.41.209.137] with 32 bytes of data:

Ping statistics for 198.41.209.137:

I also can't connect to Skype.  Itunes doesn't respond upon launch, but only while I'm connected.  It works normally while offline.

My phone has the same Internet problems while using wi-fi, but not while using data.
My Xbox One can connect to the Internet, but not to Xbox Live.  When I test its network connection, it says "DNS isn't resolving Xbox server names"

What's also strange is that my roommate isn't having these problems on his computer and phone even though we use the same wireless router.

This is my first post and glad to be here among experts. I will list my issue, please tell me what information you need to be of assistance.

I have a net gear WNR2000vs with the latest firmfware to date. I have two wired devices connected: 1. my pc 2. xbox, and also one wireless device connected 1. my cell phone via wi fi.

Before I updated the firmware:
I would hard wire my 360 and pc to the router together. My 360 online play would work fine for about 10 minutes then my connection on my 360 and pc would drop. My network status would say 'resolving issue'.

After updated the firmware:
I now have my 360 and pc hard wired to the router together. These two seems to work fine together. When I try to connect a wireless device my connection drops. My pc resolves the issue and regains connection, but if I try to navigate a webpage or download anything from the wireless device then it starts the whole dropping connection thing again.

I'm not sure what information you guys would like but here's some basics. Thanks!

I have 7 devices connected to my Netgear Router 600/3700v2 and the devices keep disappearing. I believe I have found the solution. Connect to your Netgear Router (you will see BASIC and ADVANCED options) and select the ADVANCED settings. Click the tab below ADVANCED SETTINGS and in the drop down menu select UPnP. You will see on the top of the screen ADVERTISEMENT TIME TO LIVE - this setting DEFAULTS TO "4" which is okay for "normal" home use (well, it didn't work for me). This setting is what controls your attached devices. If you keep losing them, try increasing the settings until they remain visible. I tried 5 first - no go. Then I tried 8 and I haven't lost the devices since. Hope this works for you!

Last week or so, we had a storm, and devices got unplugged. Internet service was out briefly. Wireless internet came back shortly after, but my desktop and our PS4 both can't connect to the internet via ethernet, and I can't figure out why. I've done the usual stuff: power cycle, tried out other ethernet cords, etc. Comcast has said that it's not on their end, and our wireless signal is fine, so we're clearly getting signal through the modem and out through the router. My desktop is plugged into a different modem, but also won't connect to the one attached to the router. A hard reset of the modem didn't help, whether through the button or through the configuration settings. My desktop is claiming that there's no ethernet cable plugged in, though there definitely is. I'd suspect a broken port if the PS4 weren't having the same issue. I've tried a few things on the desktop, including installing the most recent drivers for the network adapter, rolling back the driver, disabling/renabling, and just deleting it and let it reinstall one on restart, and trying to reset the IP stack. I'm posting links to screenshots of some of the command prompt commands I've tried, and the results. They vary a little bit, I've gone into the registry to enable some permissions after access was denied. Any ideas you can send my way are greatly appreciated.

All of a sudden my Laptop and TIVO stopped connecting to the internet through my Linksys router. The network will appear on my Laptop, but it refused to connect (even when sitting next to the router). My TIVO and Laptop did connect when I tested them on another network. The router worked fine when I tested it at a friend's house. I also tried to power cycle the router and cable modem (Motorola), but it does not work. I can get internet by connecting directly to the router or modem. The setup has not changed. It tried everything I could find on this forum. The only thing I haven't done is call the ISP. Any thoughts on what to try next? I can supply more information when I get home.

I've noticed a steep drop in my Wireless performance for some time. Some days I can't get it to function at all. In Chrome, it will attempt to connect to a site, but the screen just stays blank. I have tested and experience the same issue in other browsers. I have also checked other devices and another laptop also running Windows 7 and have not had any issues with connection speed. I now believe it's either some sort of malware, or something's wrong with my network settings. I've run multiple scans including eset, ant-malware, anti-rootkit, etc. etc. and haven't found anything. Help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a 20FB running Win 10 with a Logitech K810 Bluetooth keyboard that I've been using with a corded mouse without any problems. I recently purchased M557 Bluetooth mouse and now, intermittently, but consistently, my keyboard stokes are inaccurate, with multiple repeating letters and extra spaces. If I turn my mouse off, the keyboard again works fine. Disconnecting and reconnecting both devices did not solve this problem. The Lenovo System Update utlility indicates that the device driver is up to date. The Lenovo supplied device driver version is 18.1.1546.2762. Nonetheless, I was able to solve this problem by updating the device driver from Window?s Device Manager to Intel?s latest driver, version 19.0.1621.3340.

A:Ethernet connection works, Wireless does not. Wireless works for other devices.

Depending on the computer, there are two things I'd suggest you check on:

1.  Some computers (like my told Toshiba), has a slide switch on it, that physically turns off the Wi-Fi.
2.  My newer computer has a key combo that does that.  In this case Fn+F12.

I have two PC's connecting to the Internet via my Dlink router and thence via a Motorola Adaptor.

The name of the router is "Dlink" which - at this time - has no security (to come later).

The iPads and two other iPhone5's continually connect to an unknown wireless connection called Dlink8a4b, which I have never heard of!

I have turned the router OFF numerous times, pulled it's plug out, pressed the reset button likewise and also the discovery button!

When I go to the Devices x General x Networking etc. and tap on this latter WiFi connection, I do not get the prompt to "Forget This Network". There are NO details at all on this connection - IP address etc - and there seems no way to get rid of it. It is locked and requires a password!

I have been all over the PC's Network and Sharing Centre but it says the Dlink is working fine so where has this other wretched one come from and how can I get it vanish and my Dlink reappear as it has been doing happily for years!!!!!

I have tried turning off the devices, resetting the Network Settings and most everything I can think of but no matter what I try this rogue wireless connection continues to be there all the time - driving me nuts!

Any help appreciated!

from a wireless PC can you run an xirrus screen shot

whats the exact model of the dlink router - have you logged into the router itself and looked to see what the wireless is called under SSID

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

I consider myself an advanced user, but this one I've never seen, nor can I find info out for...

I haven't been able to plug a video camera or external hard drive into my computer via FireWire. I then tried a different cable, nothing. I then tried a different device and cable, nothing. I then tried a different computer with two devices, nothing.

My USB2.0 works fine with each device and computer. I also took the new computer into CompUSA and they tried their firewire device and all worked. I bought a new firewire cable, but I have the same luck with each device.

How can 2 external hardrives, and one sony camera not work, after working for a year. What happened? What do I need to do?

There are multiple websites that I cannot connect to, facebook, rottentomatoes, youtube, to name a few. Others seem perfectly fine. A few seem okay, but seem to be running slowly.

This is the case for both my computer (on which I am running Windows 7), which is connected directly to the router, *and* mobile devices which are connected wirelessly.

On my computer I have tried using several different browsers to no avail, but when I used the TOR browser to proxy, I was able to access them.

I apologize if this has been asked, but I haven't been able to find anything this specific.

Thank you.

Our ISP recently updated their hard ware to work with the Sprint network. Note: our ISP is not Sprint, but the local phone company.

Our Hardware:
Internet: DSL 10.0 (highest speed available)
Modem: Comtrend (ISP provides)
Router: Belkin N
Computer: 10 yr old Dell running XP - service pac3 - wired connection
Kindle Fire (first edition, no HD, etc) - wireless connection
Xbox 360 - wireless connection

Issues:
Xbox - went from constantly bumped from Xbox Live game by losing internet connection to not being able to enter a game at all
Kindle - went from occasional "network error' message during online tasks to having to restart download (multiple times) or refresh page for most any or all online tasks
Computer - have to click refresh to get most any page to load after the home page

What we've tried so far:
I have recently cleared the cache on both the computer and Kindle. XBox's new security measures have been met.

My questions:
Do any or all of these issues seem to be related?
Is there a piece of equipment or something we may be missing to make all of these things work? I am a networking novice.
Who should I call to get these issues corrected, my ISP or a tech service? Note: if I start with the ISP and they do not find an issue I have to pay for the call.

A:Multiple issues over multiple devices

First. You should try to NOT use a wireless connection for any type of gaming: PC, Mac, Console, etc. If you can hard wire the xbox you'll be waaay better off than using wireless.

Now... Yes, the issues could be related - there maybe an issue with the Belkin N router. I'd try to first reset the Belkin router to default settings, check on manufacturer website for instructions how, most routers you can press a "reset" button w/ a paperclip or ball point pen. Reconfigure the Belkin router, recreate the wireless network and see how everything works. If you are still having issues, humor me and connect the Dell directly to the DSL modem, bypassing Belkin router. See if you still have connection issues, if you do then it could be the DSL modem that is the problem and call your ISP to replace. If you don't have same issues then it's most likely an issue with the Belkin router. Replace it. Don't buy the dirt cheapest router at the store, but you most likely don't need the most expensive one either. Find a good middle ground router, ask sales associate to assist you accordingly.

Post back, Hope this helps!!

Lately there have been some issues where when one laptop is connected to the Internet, another one won't connect, and vice versa. Today, the desktop and 2 of the laptops were connected, but when we tried to connect 2 of the other ones, it connected to the router but both got messages that the Internet has limited or no connection.

Is it possible that there is some sort of conflict between the computers? Or perhaps a setting in the router that needs to be changed? We're using a Linksys router with WEP enabled.

Appreciate any comments, as I can't seem to find the solution. Thanks!

I recently purchased a new Thinkpad laptop. It failed to connect to my Belkin wireless router (limited or no connectivity message) even after I typed in the correct network key. When I turned off WEP protein through my old Dell, the new one can be connected. I then re-enact the protection through the new one using the same key. Now it can be connected under the encryption but the old one is left out. Any suggestions? Thanks.

hi

i have one main HD (IDE) and my OS on it

i added 2 new SATA dvices one HD and one DVD Burner everything work fine

but i dont understand why it apears on my removal dvices (just like it does when i conect USB dvice)

i think its because the new technology SATA uses (unlike IDE i can plug unplag it when the Pc is on) therefore it is shown as removal dvice

maybe its normal thing i dont realy know i see it only on my Pc

anyway i would like to fix it , if there any way to

here is the pic:

A:Sata devices problem apears on removal devices

I'm not sure that is a normal happening.. I have a sata harddrive myself and it does not show up in the remove devices. Only thing i can think of is make sure your drivers are completely up to date.

I use w10 on 3 devices, a mid range gaming PC, linx7 tablet, and lumia640. On the whole the experience is pretty good, syncing works well, reminders, alarms, contacts etc. This was one of the reasons I opted for android early, using chrome on a PC gave a similar, yet skimmed down, one OS feel.
I've not had one BSOD since updating the 'rig', my mobile works great, and the tablet is amazing for ?49! I was talking to my father in law who uses all 3 main OSs every day, and we both agree that windows just feels more 'grown up' than iOS or android. He wants a win10 phone next to replace his android (he'll have to keep the company iPhone4).
So like I said, does anyone else have a similar experience?

A:Who else uses w10 across multiple devices?

yeah i have no probs with my Lumia 920, HP work laptop and 2 of table computers at home.

just pisses me off to have the same background on each computer and i seem not to be able to find a setting to keep that sync out

I want to use the audio simultaneously from my ati 4550 HDMI, Sony blue-tooth speaker via usb BT dongle, 3.5mm jacks on my mobo, and also from a spdif and digital coax linked to the mobo via on board header to expansion bracket with ports.

I know this all may sound like overkill, however I don't have the funds for high end switches / replicators, etc. So manually changing them has been a hassle.

I have done some reading and I know se7en doesn't let you. I did this with xp x64.

Anyone know of a "work-around" or hack to enable all devices at once?

From what I see, you can only have one "Default" Playback device so I doubt that what you want to do can be accomplished.

My laptop connects to our home wireless network. Since last night, however, while it will connect to the network with an "excellent" connection at 54 mbps, it will NOT connect to the Internet in any browser or Internet program such as AOL/Yahoo Messenger. An additional laptop I have accesses the Internet wireless without any issue.

Router: Belkin N+ Wireless Router
Operating Sys.: XP Professional

I tried the following steps:

Unplug/reset modem and router
Setup wireless network again
Repaired wireless connection
ipconfig /release - ipconfig /renew
I successfully pinged yahoo.com and google.com
Tested Internet connection with wired connection (works fine)

This problem is driving me completely nuts.

I have a linsky router model WRTP54G.

One of my computers on a Dlink wireless card. Not sure of the model number. Now I have no remote problems with wired connections. The problem I am encountering is wireless based.

At one point and time I had my wireless connection set up where it only allowed mac filtering, using a 26 WEP key, and I had the broadcast hidden. The name of my SSID was 3 names, for example "bad news bears". Now for some reason, the connection will not show up! Even if I broadcast the name it will not show up unless I remove the mac filtering. Then with the wep enabled if it does connect, it will only render a 0.0.0.0. IP address. Going further if I repair, I end up with the usual 169. Only if I broadcast and drop both connections can I connect. Then sometimes it still will not show the broadcast unless I disable the connection and renable it.

Can anyone enlighten me or give me some good tips?

A:Wireless connection problem.... please help

"... give me some good tips?"

Take note of any important WAN settings, reset your router to factory default settings; login to the router, set a password for login, configure the WAN and assign your desired SSID and channel to the wireless.

Uninstall your wireless adapter, and reinstall it.

Try to connect, and tell us what happens.

After you get a connection, enable WPA-PSK encryption for security; if a device will not support it even after a firmware or driver update, then use WEP with a hex key.

If you then want to make your network difficult to use, you can use those other methods you described.

Hi All,

I recently moved, and now have a cable internet connection. The only way for me to connect to the internet is via my wireless router (the cable company set it up this way). I have a MacBook with a wireless connection. It connects to my Wireless Router (Belkin) with no problems.

My PC, however, will only connect to the internet if my MacBook is physically plugged into the router. My PC does have a wireless card installed (Belkin too). If I unplug the cable from the MacBook, then I can't connect. My PC is able to see the Wireless router if the cable is unplugged from the MacBook, but can't connect to the internet.

What the heck is ging on?

Hi. I have a problem with my wireless internet connection - it keeps dropping. My technical knowledge is not great so was wondering if someone might be able to suggest a solution. I have a new Netgear 54mbps wireless ADSL2+ modem router (DG834G) plugged into my main phone socket in my sitting room and a new Netgear USB wireless adaptor (WG111) plugged into my desktop in a bedroom. My broadband connection worked fine before I went wireless a few days ago. Now it drops every so often, normally after about 10 minutes online. Then I have to unplug the USB adaptor, wait a while, and try again. Usually it works eventually. My signal strength is always described as excellent or very good and the distance between modem and desktop computer is not large. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks

I have an Asus A43S laptop and ever since I bought it, the wireless was working fine. Then my wireless modem didn't work properly (can connect to internet via ethernet but gives a really weak wireless signal to the point that even if I connect, there will be no internet). So I bought a new D-Link Modem and the wireless works fine on my android phone but suddenly it doesn't work on my laptop. It can detect the wireless network but everytime I try to connect it says 'Unable to connect'. I don't know how to fix this. Please help.

Yes it does ask for password and the router settings are set to allow any IP addresses to connect to it. Even my phone can connect to it. I don't know how to identify the broadcasting signal though. And I think it's a problem with my wireles adapter. I've tried the troubleshoot but no luck. My wireless adapter is Atheros AR9002WB-1NG. It says the driver is up tp date.

I've just put in a new wireless router because my old one just stopped working. I can connect perfectly with my desktop but I can't do anything with my laptops trying to connect tirelessly.

The router is a cisco linksys WRT110
My laptop is a Compaq Presario V2000 running XP.

It came with "Linksys EasyLink Advisor", a program to setup connections. I click add device and once I've gone through the options it comes up telling me to put a removable media device in the computer. I do this and it gives me a program to load onto my laptop. All is looking good until I actually run it on my laptop. The program opens and asks if I would like to be added to the network, I click OK and nothing changes. It says I'm added but I can't connect to the network and nothing changes on the easylink advisor.

When I try to select the network on my laptop it attempts a connection and then says "Windows is unabled to connect to the slected netowrk. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again." I get this message whether I'm 2 feet or 10 metres away. It doesn't ask me for the WEP key. When I disable WEP and try to connect it will get as far as "waiting for the network" and then just stop without connecting.

A:Wireless Connection Problem

Don't use LELA. Period. If you have it on your laptop, remove it.

Then, delete your stored wireless profiles and try to connect to your router using the built-in network discovery manager (hint hint: "View Wireless Networks" on XP), and enter your WEP/WPA keys, if you have one.

I started a new thread for you here, as tacked onto a month old abandoned threat would not help you.

Disable encryption and MAC Address filtering on the router and try to connect. If unsuccessful please show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

two things - check that the antenna is tightly connected to the device - mine loosens up (on its own!) every couple weeks and i have to re-tighten at the router and on the nic card. other thing is to check for interfering devices - usually cordless (not cellular) phones' base units too close. Other devices can interfere too, but cordless phones are most common.

Hi, my wife's laptop is giving some "can't find server" messages. Running XP with all the service packs and using Firefox browser on a wireless connection from a Linksys router on a cable modem. When she's connected to Netflix everything is fine. But if she tries to do anything useful it keep kicking her off the web pages or gmail and saying "can't find page" every half hour or so. Range is only 12 feet to the router, shouldn't be a range problem.

does anything else work on the router
whats the make and model of the router
what the status of all the lights on the router

lets see the following

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

I have no idea what you mean by "a vista updater." If it "updated" your wireless driver that is the likely problem. Make sure you have the latest driver from Vaio's web site.

I am trying to connect a laptop to my home network using USR's router and PCMCIA card. The laptop has a built in ethernet card and hooks up with a cable and works just fine. No problem at all. If I install the pcmcia in the laptop it will hook up via the wireless connection and I can get on the internet but cannot see the computers on the network.

USR robotics just says call Microsoft and get them to fix it since it is not their problem. Sure Bill Gates will get on the phone and fix it for me. I believe that sure I do... don't you.

Anyway does any one have any idea on what is wrong and how to fix the problem. I don't have a clue. The router is a USR8054 wireless router and the PCMCIA card is a USR 5410.

Thanks

It' say the singal, and status is connected, but if I go into command promt, I can't ping any sites, example. ping yahoo.com -t and I can't load any programs that uses internet connect like, AIM and IE doesn't load pages. I've had a wireless network for a while now and its worked perfectly with 128bit WEP encryption. Yesterday I installed SP2 and it continued to work fine, now it just won't work at all with encryption and the wireless router is working because when i disable WEP encryption then the computer will connect. But when I enable it, it won't.

I uninstalled Service Pack 2, but it still won't work.

I can't configure anything because when I click "View Available Wireless Networks" I get a completly greyed out box with no wireless networks included, the connect and advanced buttons are also disabled with only the cancel button functioning.

Has anyone any solutions?

Thanks and Regards,

If the computer connects without encryption in the router, I'd remove and regenerate the configuration in the PC. I've found that at times I have to enter the encryption key several times before it "takes", and there's no rational reason that should be the case.

Hi all,
I got a wireless router today, and am having real problems. Any help would be appreciated, as I'm really way out of my depth here.

I have a dell PC running Windows XP. The PC does NOT have a wireless connection. (my duaghter wants a laptop for Xmas, and my son wants wireless access for his Wii, so I'm trying to sort this out ready).
Previously, I was connectiong to broadband using a Speedtouch USB connection to Eicon Diva 2.02.

I've plugged the router box into the broadband wall socket, and to set it up, I've got the PC attached to the router using the Ethernet LAN connection.
The install CD said the router was installed okay. I can access the internet now - it's showing as connected by 'Lan or high speed internet' - 'local connection Intel Pro/100 VE network'.

I can't see any options for wireless connection. (i know I can't connect using this pc, but was going to try to go wireless with the Wii to check it)

I can't see any options for wireless connection, and during the set-up didn't get any options to name my wireless connection or password etc, which I thought I should have.

Is this because I haven't got a modem connected to the router ? The set-up diagrams show it going straight into the broadband wall connection.

My ISP is Orange
the router is a Siemens Gigaset SE572 WLAN dsl
I'm running Windows XP, and have service pack Xp3

I seem to have stumped my local computer shop & hope that I can get help here. Here is the problem !!!!
I have two computers in my home. One is hardwired & one is wireless. While I was on the internet one day, I got disconnected, then reconnected about every 30 seconds. I have been going through the same wireless router for three years with no changes. I did a few tests to try to figure out the problem. If I bypass the router & hardwire to the cable modem, everything works just fine. If I run back through the router, I can not get on the internet on either computer. I've been having wireless connection issues on my other computer (Windows XP).
It was fine until we had to get a new router and now it can't connect.
It's saying something about a configuration mismatch, but I don't quite understand how to go about fixing this issue.
None of the other computers have had this problem.
Can someone offer any solutions?

Hi all,

I have a hp slimline s5113 computer connected by wire to a Linksys wrt54g router. I have a brother MFC-255CW wireless capable printer. I have Norton Internet Security.

That was just the introduction to help hopefully with the answer to my questions.

Now yesterday i Hard Reset my Linksys router because i did not know the password to get on to the linksys website for control over the router. After i did that my computer wont acknowledge my printer. I have tried the Wizard and typing in the ip from the printer and it still will not see my Printer.

I know my wireless works because my TV, Xbox and Blu-ray player all work and are all wireless. Im thinking it has something to do with me Resetting the router. So if anyone could give me some insight on how to get my printer back up on the network i would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Update:::

Got the Printer to work by going through the printer and connecting it to the router. Though it still wont see scanner.

Any suggestions on that?

The ssid is broadcasting on the tablet, but I recieve an error message after 15 seconds stating that disbled secured with wpa/wpa2 psk I have reset the router 3 times and still it doesnot connect with the tablet. Is it a windows 7 problem or a router(belkin f5d7230-4-wirelss g) problem? I never had any problems before with a connection issue. Any assistance will be appreciated. deanie44

Hi there,

Have you tried moving your Tablet closer to the router then apply the network security again with the correct pass-phrase? It is important that you type the correct pass-phrase.
I wonder if your Tablet is not hand-shaking with your network's security. Do a test and change it to WPA or WEP, it's not a very safe network security but we need to find out if the issue is the encryption level.

Hello,
I have an acer aspire laptop running windows xp home edition and a Baudtech router. Another laptop here connects fine to the router through wireless connection but the acer laptop have the following problem. Also the acer laptop connects fine to another wireless network.

The router assigns ip addreses on the range 192.168.1.x but when i connect from the acer laptop the ip address assigned to it is 192.168.2.100 and gateway 192.168.2.1. The result is that although windows show that the connection have been established succesfully, the laptop has no connection either to the internet or the LAN including the router.
Any ideas about the problem and any solutions appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

pc: the problem is propably related to the wireless network card because the computer connects correctly with ethernet cable with the same router.

What is the router ip address?

Also, click START, RUN, type "CMD" <enter>

In command prompt, type "ipconfig /all" and post the results.

Has this always been happening or did it occur recently after any discernible event(s)?

Hi all

I have a wireless connection set up on my laptop. Whenit searches for the woreless network the laptop finds the network and connects. I get the message telling me the signal is excellent.

However when I try to open the internet I get the network connection error.

Any ideas?

When I connect using an ethernet cable to my router, there is no connection problems and the net opens without problem.

I'm using Dell Latitude D610, a Belkin G+ Mimo router and an Intel Pro wireless 2200BG card.

Thanks

A:Wireless connection problem

the router needs to be config'd for the wireless access.
Your wired config is fine, so only access the wireless portion.
Set a new SSID to anything other that the default.
Enable the wireless (which sounds like it is already)
Disable encryption (for now)
Set a channel number, say #3
Disable remote configuration management
(ie only your wired system will be allowed to make router changes)
save the configuration

Also set a new ADMIN password and save again.

Your wireless should then see YOUR NEW SSID; click connect

If you'r running correctly at this point, you can then go back to enable encryption

On bootup the computer usually recognizes my router and even connects wirelessly, but this consistantly only lasts for a few seconds before the connection is lost.

I'm running on Windows XP SP3 and have an Intel Pro wireless 2200BG wireless card.

So you have tried changing wireless channels in your routers wireless set up page? Channel overlap is the number one reason for slow wireless, drop outs or rogue disconnections. Free software like Xirrus can help you see the wireless channels being used in your area so you can pick a better channel. Wi-Fi Inspector | Xirrus

You should also make sure to use WPA2 security with AES encryption.

Hmm, everywhere I look people seem to be having wireless connection problems...

Anyway, here is mine: I have a D-Link G604T router which is connected via cable to one desktop PC, and wirelessly to my laptop via a D-Link DWL-G650+. I have setup the router fine - the PC is connected perfectly. I also think that I have setup the laptop OK as well, as I can intermittently recieve internet access. The problem is though it is intermittent - I have run ping tests and always two of the four tests are timed out. This is similar to the internet connection, sometimes it works fine, sometimes it times out. Doing an ipconfig /all reveals:

Phys Add: 00-0D-88-F1-2D-B9
DHCP En: No
IP Add: 192.168.1.3
Sub Mask: 255.255.255.0
Def Gate: 192.168.1.1
DNS Serv: 192.168.1.1

From what I have seen on websites and forums this is all OK. I have tried disconnecting my wireless mouse to see if that made a difference but it didn't. I'm starting to get quite annoyed now, and have reverted back to only connecting one computer at a time - which is quite annoying. Any ideas what could be causing the problem?

Cheers
Mark

Today I noticed that my windows updated , and then the connection went bonkers, on off on off a million times. I rebooted several times to have the same problem.
I turned off the router for a few minutes and it still stayed off with the network troubleshooter telling me there is no connection, when there is. what can I do when I checked the adapter and everything. Please advise as my uploads to my site are greatly compromised.

I had a problem like this in Windows 7, but got worse in Windows 10. We had to replace our router but I don't think you want to do that now. For now though, you can change your wireless settings to use a different channel. Do this by going into your router settings which are usually 192.168.1.254 in your browser settings and then look for the wireless channel setting under the Wifi or wireless tab.

Hi, and welcome to the TSG forum

is your router set to broadcast the ssid - if not then you just need to add it as a preferreed service
can you see it in the list of networks to connect to.
what channel have you set up on. and are both the same
"g" is supposed to be backward compatable - i have g and b all mixed up on my home network - with no problems

try this program
Free software to check signal strength of wireless is netstumbler 0.4.0 available for download from http://www.stumbler.net/

But I cant connect to my wireless. I cant see the network name in the wireless list and when I try to create my own wireless network, and type the network name and password, it says password had to be 40bits or 104bits kind of thing. I hope you all know this error message.
My password is 27 characters long and according to the message I get, I assume it cant be more than 26. I dont know why my computer isnt working. I was using the same wireless before the crash, and my other computer is working fine.
I can see all other wireless networks in the list that you normally see when you click on wireless.
Please help, how to fix it.....it was working fine few days ago.

This is my situation. I have a di-624m Wireless Super G mimo router. My brothers house is about 100feet away from my router but when I just use a wireless pci card in his machine it does not pick up the signal. I know I am not out of range because I can take my laptop over and I can get a signal from his kitchen but when I go to his office behind another wall the signal is lost. There is my wall then 2 more walls at my brothers place for the signal to go through.

So now my question - which type of product will give me the connection i want so i can share my dsl with my brother. A repeater, an antenna or a access point ??? Which is the best and honestly the least costly to make this connection work. And which one works the best and the easiest to setup.

Do you know if your wireless network is encrypted, if not, its an invitation to anyone driving by to come on in with their Pringle can or better yet, a 34.5 oz coffee can.

Do you know if the router has a limited number of IP addresses? What's the limit - there must be a limit.

It sounds like you have sufficient signal strength from what you said, so you probably do not need a range expander.

Do your laptops have a WiFi card and your desktop not? Ok, if you have one in your desktop, is it 802.11g or 802.11b? What cards are in your laptops? And what is the router's capability - 802.11b or 802.11g? Find out.

Hello ^^
I've recently bought a tenda wireless router, my internet requires to introduce my ip/dns/gateway/etc manually and doesn't require an username and password, the guide says to add a password and then connect, but when I try to connect a window pops up and says successfully submitted the changes or something like that and a new window pops up with the exact sam thing, to enter the password and submit. The wireless has two categories: adsl and dhcp, I'm sure it's not an adsl because mine don't require username or password.

Hey all,
(my first post here. yay!)
Okay I have kind of a weird problem with a laptop. This laptop is a 6 month old dell running Vista 32-bit. I forgot the exact model number. But anyway, the problem is that it can never connect wirelessly to this old Westell router(running Verizon DSL). On all other routers, including ones from Starbucks and friends' homes it can connect and surf fine, but it can never establish connection with this one at home. When Windows ask to indentify the problem, it spits back a "weak signal" error, even when the laptop is right next to the router! Other laptops however CAN connect to the Westell just fine. I'm pulling hairs trying to figure this one out! I even reinstalled the drivers and reset the router back to defaults. Does anyone know if I'm missing anything?

A:Wireless Connection Problem

If you can find out what the model number is for router and look for the info to get into settings. You might be able to reset the setting for the interference up or down. Sometimes some thing in your home might be causing interference. Not sure on the make. On mine (linksys) all of sudden might would not connect. I almost went to buy a new one. After a little research, I found out something in my house was stopping it. I got into mine and reset it to 11.

Not sure if you have that same option for your make. Here is a couple links to help out.... but it might not be your model... but great info.

Hi All,

I'm having a problem connecting a Mac wirelessly to an Orange Livebox (UK Internet provision). When I connect via ethernet cable internet works fine, but when I try wirelessly it states 'the selected AirPort network requires a password to join' (WPA Personal).

I've tried every password I can think of or been provided with WEP key etc, and personal log on passwords, but to no avail. I get a message stating 'The selected network uses an Access Control List to restrict access and this computer is not on the list.' I've tried looking in the Orange Livebox configuration settings for the Access Control List, but I can't find anything there.

Any advice appreciated.

A:Mac wireless connection problem

You might try the Livebox configuration and search for anything referring to MAC address blocking/filter. It sounds like this may be enabled. You would have to enter the wireless cards MAC address (12 figure, alpha/numeric) or you could disable MAC address blocking. In my linksysy router this is listed under Wireless, Wireless MAC Filter. If the Livebox is anything at all like my router, you should have SSID broadcast enable, WEP/WPA encrypt entered in wireless setup and wireless card MAC address entered in Livebox configuration (or not if you disable the MAC filtering). I have (1) Apple laptop with Airport wireless on my network along with (6) other PC/Laptops (3 hardwired/3-wireless). Hope this helps.

Hello

I have a NetGear router that I use for my home network. It has 2 pc's hard wired to it, and my 2 sons each have a wireless laptop that also accesses the router. We have a cable modem for access to the internet. This has been in place for at least 2 years without a problem. 3 weeks ago both boys said that he couldn't get internet access from their bedrooms. I called Netgear support, they walked me thru resetting the router with the channel number, setting up 64 bit security, etc. Now one of the laptops (the newer of the 2, with an internal card) works everywhere, my older sons doesn't work from his bedroom. BUT from his bedroom his laptop can see the networks of my neighbors on either side of the house but not ours 2 floors below him. The laptop works OK in the basement where the router is, gets between 2 - 3 bars on the first floor of the house and disappears in his room.

I've tried all 3 channels for the router (1, 6, and 11), moved it around in the office, raised it higher off the desk, turned it, changed the direction of the antennae, nada. Any thoughts? Both wireless computers are Windows XP, not sure what SP.

TIA

Are you using any type of encryption (which you should)? If so, you may need to put an encryption key on your pc to allow access.

Also, FYI, WPA2 offers good encryption.

The computer with XP MCE OS has no problem connecting to MS IE7 wirelessly. On the computer with Windows Vista Ultimate OS, when I attempt to connect to Windows IE7 it prompts me for the WPA key, but after I enter it, it won't connect to IE7. Is it a compatibility issued between MS Vista and the Westell device. I have Verizon DSL and they have troubleshooted it, but can't fix the problem. I contacted Gateway and they tell me it is a compatibility issue. I have even tried disabling WPA and it still won't connect. Any assistance is greatly appreicated.

I have an hp laptop that was working just fine until the i had to changed the wireless network connection. the connection it was on was someone elses in the neighborhood and they put a lock on it(needs password). now i have another network connection with a password, but when i go to connect it just continuously says..."WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION.. one or more wireless connections are available" i click on the preferred network but again i get the same message. i have restored the computer and still the same thing. i have noticed down in the corner it says that the wireless network interface is disabled. But i am unable to get the Athenos Client Utility to open for any changes and the Broadcom wireless utility will not open either. i will be here for a few hoping that someone can help me out with this. i also have a sony vaio and desktop that had no issues adapting to the new network but this HP seems to have a problem connecting. PLEASE HELP.

Hi

I am using a compaq laptop which i have purchased in april 09 and have been using wireless internet with not a problem since. A few days ago my parents purchased a new desktop and A new netgear router/modem which has been set up perfectly. The new desktop is connected perfectly with 100% connection as well as my PS3 down stairs. But my laptop for some reason when i tried to connect to the (SSID) it doesn't allow me. I will take you though the steps i am taking.

desktop>toolbar>connections>connect to net work>clicking to connect on my SSID.

But then it comes up with. Getting information for Comos(my SSID)>Connecting to Comos>Windows could not connect to Comos>Troubleshoot>Low singnal fix (which it isn't its 100%) or view other available networks.

I have posted on the compaw forums page and had no response and i have contacted netgear.

I have tried a system restore to get back to my original settings but no luck

I beg please please give me some help/advise please.

A:wireless connection problem??

What kind of security is configured on the router? Do your security settings match on your notebook?

Hey guys. Well, I have been having this problem for a couple of months now... I was running Windows Vista - system 32. Anyway, my connection disconnects, and in a few seconds, it connects. My router is 100% fine because this doesn't seem to be happening on my other two laptops - I have one desktop, and two laptops.. the latter aren't mine. Anyway, the other week, I installed Windows 7 to see if the problem persists. It's still is the same, and it's getting annoying. My driver software updated, and all that shiz. I have a Belkin adapter - F5D7000.

Help?

You could try different versions of the driver, check power saving options to be sure they're not configured or replacing the card.

Hi,

I have a wireless vista laptop. I have recently installed software for a new wireless router at home ("BT HomeHub") which works fine. However, since installing the software to accompany the router, I've been unable to connect to any other networks via wireless. Ethernet works fine on any network.

I've uninstalled the software for the new router, but this has not solved the problem with other networks. I ran ipconfig & compared it to another computer on a friend's network & the only difference is that under the "Wireless adapter" section the Connection-specific DNS suffix is set to "home". His is not. (under ethernet adapter on my laptop, this field is blank)

I've gone into the properties of tcp/ipv4, looked at the advanced DNS settings & the box for "dns suffix for this connection" box is blank. If I enter "temp" into the box & run ipconfig again, "temp" appears where "home" was, but upon deleting "temp" & leaving the box blank, "home" appears again in ipconfig.

Any ideas if this is the problem & how to remove it if so? Much appreciated if so, as I'm tearing my hair out.

Well, for one thing, you don't need any software installed to access a router...

I don't think the DNS suffix has anything to do with this issue.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

I use windows Vista on my laptop, and I've had this problem for some time now..

My internet works fine, but if I download anything that is 3rd party download it will not connect. Say I go on google and find a small 100kb download that goes to my desktop. Then I open it to download from my computer? I think.. Like its a small download that redownloads and installs from my computer. Well.. it wont connect, and it will work for my other computer that isn't wireless. I do not know how to fix this. I have windows defendeer.. and I shut it off. Any suggestions?! this is driving me crazy!

A top suspect is a non-Windows firewall or security suite. What one do, or did, you have on the machine?
