unknown devices connected to DSL router

Q: unknown devices connected to DSL router

Hi

I have a THOMSON TG585 v7 DSL router and when I browsed devices connected i found 2 unknown devices and apart from my 2 pcs, a switch and a media player I have nothing else wired and the wireless option is disabled.

A: unknown devices connected to DSL router

Obvious question #1: do you learn anything by clicking on the unknown devices?

Obvious question #2: do the unknown devices correspond to the switch and media player (check the MAC addresses)?

Hi,
In the past 3 days I've noticed that I periodically get randomly redirected via link bucks when browsing the internet. It was odd when it happened on my nexus 7 tablet but also has started happened on the 2 laptops that are connected to my router.
There's no specific pattern, time or website but it is certainly happening on websites that wouldn't use link bucks (Facebook/university e-mail). I have security software installed on all devices (lookout on nexus 7, MSE on windows 7 laptops).
Any advice anyone could offer would be appreciated, its getting annoying now!
Thanks!
P.s. - at the same time my nexus 7 stopped connecting to Google now with a connection error, but only when connected to my network, on other networks it works fine

Welcome aboard  Try resetting your router.... Turn the computer off.On your router, you'll find a pinhole marked "Reset".Keep pushing the hole, using a pencil, or a paperclip until all lights briefly come off and on.NOTE. Simple router disconnecting from a power source will NOT do.Restart computer and check for redirections.NOTE. You may need to re-check your router security settings, as described HERE

-Here is my setup so far. I have a vista machine with 2 lan cards, one from motherboard, one on pci. The lan from motherboard is connected to the WAN port on my router. I have alltel wireless internet that uses ICS through that. The lan card on my pci bus is connected to a LAN port on the same router. When i am not using ics i disable the lan on my motherboard and vice versa. I am using the second LAN on my pci bus that is connected to one of the LAN ports on my router so my computer can use MCE and DIRECTV2PC. I have another line connected to a LAN port on the same router going to a switch which is connected to my 360 and my directv receiver.
-Here is the problem. Say im using DIRECTV2PC and the xbox gets turned on, what happens is i lose connection to my directv and my computer only sees the xbox and vice versa. I am confused on why that is, it should see both at the same time and not lose connection to any one of them right?

A:I lose connection to some devices on my switch connected to my router.

whoa man never heard of that kind of set up before. try connecting your internet to the WAN port on the router and connecting the rest of your stuff to the inputs on the router. its a little less complicated this way.
sounds like your computer is controlling your internet and getting confused... hope this info is usefull.

I'm thinking of buying a wireless router for my son who has a laptop but he ALWAYS downloads huge files (games or whatever he does) when he uses my computer so is there a way to limit the bandwidth he gets when he connects to the router through his laptop?

A:Is it possible to limit the connection speed of devices connected to a router?

Look for a wireless router with traffic shaping and QoS. From my search, a Billion 7400 has traffic shaping. Also, the Actiontec MI424WR has it as well. Here's the shot from the Actiontec configuration pages.

I have tried to research this and am not finding the information I need to answer the above question so hope a networking expert can help.

I recently for the first time went over my monthly data cap for broadband and looking it to it a bit more it looks like a lot of the programs my kids are using are hogging the bandwidth. I don't really want to pay for more bandwidth (as I already pay way above average as I live in a small rural village) but I don't want to restrict too much what my kids are doing.

The solution to me seems to be to see if I can monitor and if possible control to some extent the data on each of the IP connected to the router if that is at all possible.

I have looked at my router settings and unfortunately they do not permit anything more than traffic monitoring and there are no custom firmwares to allows additional features of any use.

Is there any software that I could use to do this?

Can anybody help at all with any advice about whether this can be done?

A:Can i monitor and control multiple router connected devices data???

It is almost impossible to restrict the total usage of bandwidth. To my knowledge there are no setting for that in normal routers/gateways.

This is my first post and glad to be here among experts. I will list my issue, please tell me what information you need to be of assistance.

I have a net gear WNR2000vs with the latest firmfware to date. I have two wired devices connected: 1. my pc 2. xbox, and also one wireless device connected 1. my cell phone via wi fi.

Before I updated the firmware:
I would hard wire my 360 and pc to the router together. My 360 online play would work fine for about 10 minutes then my connection on my 360 and pc would drop. My network status would say 'resolving issue'.

After updated the firmware:
I now have my 360 and pc hard wired to the router together. These two seems to work fine together. When I try to connect a wireless device my connection drops. My pc resolves the issue and regains connection, but if I try to navigate a webpage or download anything from the wireless device then it starts the whole dropping connection thing again.

I'm not sure what information you guys would like but here's some basics. Thanks!

Okay I live in the dorms in college.(well actually they are not the dorms but overflow apartments because the dorms were full, not sure if it matters but thought i should add) I brought my wireless netgear router with me to school to plug my Ps3 into and to download certain things the school blocks on the regular wireless internet.

So I plug my router into the jack in the room and then run wireless to my laptop and wired to my Ps3. I set up the router and it determined the internet connection is DHCP . I set the router to obtain I.P. and DNS addresses dynamically and it won't work. then i set it to use static addresses. ( the address that it picked up dynamically ) It then works for awhile, sometimes a few hours and sometimes less than an hour. To get it to work again all I have to do is set it back to dynamic wait a couple minutes and move it back to static. When I lose connection my playstation says its a DNS error.

my roommate plugs his laptop directly into the jack on the wall because he doesn't have a wireless card and he hasn't said anything about losing his connection. But once i plugged him into the router he loses his connection just like me.

I am sure i am forgetting something important if anymore info is needed I will add. Please help it is really getting annoying changing the setting on the router

Hi,

I'm sure this question has been asked multiple times because I myself have read countless posts trying to figure out my problem and solve it, but nothing has seemed to work for me. I have an HP G60-230US laptop and a Linksys router. It says my laptop is connected to linksys but it has a limited connection. It will not connect to the Internet and I can't open the Internet at all. I got an error saying that it was unable to communicate with the Primary DNS Server but I'm pretty clueless as to how to go about fixing this.

Thanks in advance!

How many USB devices can I have connected?

OK: sounds like a dumb question.
Everyone shopuld know that you can have upto 128 devices all conncted by USB - right...?

I use USB extension wires: these seem to cause problems.

If I want to extend the lenght... should I simply connect several USB hubs?

Are USB extentions known to cause problems?

If I have 5 USB hubs connected all of of each other: will I have problems when I connect a device to the last one?

Thanks.

A:How many USB devices can I have connected?

I think the main two considerations are power and traffic.

Clearly, power hungry devices will require at least some powered USB hubs.

The more traffic (e.g., networking means lots of traffic), the more likelihood for clashes and slowdowns.

I'm pretty sure there are maximum recommended distances for USB, but I do not have such info handy.

Hi there

I see BELARC advisor manages to do a security audit of USB devices attached to a computer. Since this must obviously be stored on Windows somewhere does anybody have any idea how to extract this information easily.

I could then run a script every so often as say a nightly job for audit purposes.

Any help here

I have Linksys wireless router, and I've been using that for awhile, no problems with it.

I had a 50 foot CAT5 cable sitting around and as well, an old D-Link DI-604 wired router, so I decided to turn the router, into a switch so can I hardwire my Desktop and PS3.

I have the Port 2 Linksys router outputting the internet to the WAN D-Link wired router using the 50 foot cable, and then using Port 1 and 2 to my Desktop and PS3, respectively.

Everything on the Desktop and PS3 side seems to be great, i've noticed web pages loading times decrease.

Except that the computer which is hardwired to my Linksys wireless router, is awfully snail slow.

Is it because the D-Link router is a Router and not a switch, that this problem is happening?

Edit - I've been reading that this is more complicated then a simple plug and go. I have to disable the DHCP and everything, everytime I try to log into my D-Link router, it'll get into the routers main page, but nothing will load after I try to click 'LAN' or 'WAN' or 'DHCP'

Edit 2 - Alright, so I have changed my 2nd router to disable the DHCP and changed the IP to be different from my 1st router, and everything seems good except for one thing. When I plug in my PS3 to either Port 3 or Port 4, the whole network is crippled, and nothing connects. Very interesting. I'm going to replace the CAT6 cable from my PS3 to my router-switch with a crossover cable, i've got a feeling it's ... Read more

OK this is complicated so bear with me!

First time poster as well so please be gentle!

I have Telewest Cable Broadband working with a Linksys wireless G (wrt54g) router. It works a treat and i have the "improved" antennae from Linksys to boost the signal a bit as well.

I recently signed up with Vonage for a VoIP provider and the router they provide is wired (the Linksys rt41p2 router) and im trying to get this connected to my wireless network with a seperate Gateway or wireless hub. Im pretty sure this will work if i put the access point in infrasturcture mode (im thinking the linksys WAP54G access point) and conenct the VoIP router to the Access point (with DHCP disabled so its technically a switch) and then it can pick up the signal from the router over a wireless network.

The router seems to support this as it has a VoIP over wireless option in the setup of the latest BIOS flash.

What i need to know is if anyone here has a setup like this and any problems they have with this type of setup! Any help wopuld be much appreciated.

I want devices connected to the router to be able to connect to the modem.

My ISP modem says:
Local IP address 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
DHCP Server: Enabled
Connection mode: DHCP
Starting IP address: 192.168.1.10
Ending IP address: 192.168.1.128
Connected devices: Eth-Switch LAN (2) 192.168.1.12 Netgear WNDR4000 Router

My Router says:
Router Information
IP address 10.0.0.1
DHCP: On

Internet Port
IP address: 192.168.1.12
connection DHCP
IP subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway IP address: 192.168.1.1
RIP Direction: Both
RIP Version: Diabled
Attached devices: 10.0.0.4 HP computer
Use Router as a DHCP Server:yes
Starting IP address: 10.0.0.2
Ending IP address: 10.0.0.254

So how would I modify the settings so the HP computer (10.0.0.4) could see the modem (192.168.1.1)?

Answer for dummies please!

what happens if the HP does ping 192.168.1.1 ?

Hi, I hope someone else has had this problem and can help.

I bought a new MP3/4 for my son. Manual states it's configured for WMP 11.
Tried to synch to load music but WMP says 'connect device'. MP3 already connected but WMP only sees the cd/dvd drive.

Tried 2 other MP3's with the same result, nothing.

Checked MP3 with another computer and it worked fine.

I'm sure there's a simple solution, I really don't want to reinstall Vist, but there seems no way to reinstall WMP on its own.

Does anyone use the devices in uTorrent? I do not uTorrent remote access enabled, and nothing is showing up on the paired device section in the preferences menu. I personally do not use an S3, but I have a family member that does and it connects to the same wifi network. Is it showing up only because it works on the same wifi? Or should I be concerned?

Hi AnthonyY From my experience with uTorrent, if you ever had a device connected to your computer or on the same WiFi network as you that used uTorrent in the past on it, it would be detected by your desktop application of uTorrent and show under "Devices". If you right-click on it, you'll have the option to "Remove device" if you want to get rid of it.

Well if your router is acting as a DHCP server, giving out IP addresses, like most home routers do. You should be able to go into your router configuration (usually through a browser window) and see who has IP addresses leased out.

Hi everybody,

Got a bit of a strange issue that I couldn't find any answers for online or here, but if it has already been asked, then a link would be great! Thanks in advance

Here's the issue:

The USB device (mouse, HDD, whatever) works fine. I disconnect it for whatever reason, but when I do, the device can still be seen as connected (i.e. HDD file folder structure shows up, but when I click into a folder, it says that's empty when it in fact it isn't, Logitech mouse still shows up in button programming software, Logitech Gaming Software). Then when I try to connect the USB device, I cannot use the device. Power through the USB ports still works it seems, at least when I use it to charge my phone anyways.

I have updated all of my USB drivers to the newest edition available on my manufacturer's website (http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/N56VM/#support).

Here are my specs
Asus R501V (AU/NZ equivalent to worldwide N56VM)

8GB RAM
64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

Anybody have any suggestions?

Hello

I've had a problem with my bluetooth keyboard and mouse for quite some time now. The problem is that they disconnect and then won't reconnect. This usually happens after the computer has been inactive for about an hour or so, but it varies. Occasionally they have disconnected while I've been using them, but this is a rare occurence.

The problem comes when I try to use the mouse after it has been idle for a while. Usually clicking the left mouse button brings it out of sleep mode and the light comes on at the bottom, but in the occasions where it does not work nothing happens. The computer for some reason still considers it to be connected; I have a program called BluetoothView which shows the last time connected, and this is continuously updated even when I can no longer use the mouse.

I'm running Windows XP SP2. My bluetooth adapter, as well as the keyboard and mouse, are all manufactured by Belkin.

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance!

I was also worried that someone was using my wifi a while ago, I found out who the culprit was by looking at the list of reserved IP addresses. Most routers have this facility. Usually the lease time is a couple of days so you can see everyone whose connected in the last two days. You can then either block that mac address or change your password. I blocked it and found out it was my flatmates new phone! Oops!

Good luck!

Hi, I'm using the HP Cloud Recovery Download Tool to obtain Windows 7 for a new notebook that comes with Windows 10 pre-installed. When I get to the 'USB Preparation Page' to select a USB drive it shows "No USB devices connected" even though there is a USB drive connected and recognised by Windows. I've tried this with two USB drives, one 160GB and one 2TB, with neither being recognised. The drives have some data on them but I assume that they do not need to be formatted beforehand as it looks like that happens as part of this recovery process. I've tried restarting etc but have had no joy so far and would be grateful for any tips that may help.

Hello,

I would like to know if a Wi-fi interface, 802.11, when for example is connected to a router is listening also to the messages coming from others routers and equipments. Is it listening to every coming messages and then discard it? is the collision mechanism then affected also by equipments not included in the WLAN?

Thanks.

A:Is it a 802.11 interface listening also to not connected devices?

Is it listening to every coming messages and then discard it?Click to expand...

Yes; it has to look at the header to see if the message is meant for it.

is the collision mechanism then affected also by equipments not included in the WLAN?Click to expand...

Not sure just what you mean by the question. If you are asking whether wireless interference (signals on the same or close channel) can look like valid messages and thus cause a real message to look like a collision I think that the answer is 'yes.'

I'm wondering if there is a way to show the connected devices as icons on the desktop as is done in OS X. If you aren't sure of what I'm talking about, it's when I plug my phone, external hard drive, DVD, etc into the computer and instead of always going into My Computer to view what's connected, it shows up as an icon on the desktop. Is this possible, or is this just a feature I have to live without unless I cross over to the dark side and use OS X?

A:Is it possible to have desktop icons for connected devices

Hello xanpolak, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You should be able to right click on the device in the "Computer" window, then click on Create shortcut to have a shortcut created on your desktop for a desktop icon.

Hope this helps,

I have Vista Home Premium SP1.

When I connect some devices like an iPhone or a Digital Camera, it doesn't show up as a drive in Explorer.

When I open Device Management, the errant device appears under "Portable Devices", with an error icon, and shows the following message in its properties:

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

Other devices like an external hard disk don't show any errors and also show up as drive letters.

Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Helix (not sure of the exact model number but it's an i7 with 8GB ram and 128 GB SSD). After I upgraded to 8.1, I was able to pair the laptop to my bluetooth speakers and my phone (Motorola Razr Maxx) but almost instantaneously after connecting both my speakers and phone would drop and say not connected.

Nothing I did would resolve the problem, and I have gone through more or less every thread on this board relating to bluetooth issues. I've tried reinstalling the drivers, I've set the bluetooth support services to start automatically but the only thing to get bluetooth working again was to roll back to Windows 8.

So my question is this:

I kind of miss some of the features of 8.1 and I'd like to get those back, but not at the cost of bluetooth functionality. Is there any way to get the bluetooth working in 8.1, or any way to get the features of 8.1 in 8?

Some extra information; I'm running Windows 8 64 bit Pro as of right now and bluetooth is working fine; I have a broadcom bluetooth radio that came preinstalled in my laptop, specific model number is BCM20702A0;While I was using 8.1 there were no issues in Device Manager regarding drivers, at least not with the exclamation marks nor any unidentified devices.

A:Bluetooth devices would not stay connected in 8.1

Okay, the problem seems to have automagically fixed itself. All I did was revert back to windows 8, like I said in the previous post, and after updating to 8.1 again the problem does not exist anymore. I have no explanation for what's different or why it worked but I'm not going to question it.

Namely my Computer (the one I am currently on) and my PS3. Here is the setup for both:

Windows XP (Yes, it's ancient) has some sort of Netgear USB drive that detects a network (or something like that) and that is connected to my Linksys router, which is connected to a computer in my Dad's room and an Arris Modem with Time Warner Cable as the provider. In order to repair the connection after it drops me (usually it doesn't say it drops me, but my internet won't open or display any pages) I right click the icon at the bottom right and click repair. That will do it until the next time it messes up, which is usually about a half hour or an hour or so. Already Power Cycled everything and I have tried resetting the router numerous times. Anything else you wish to know advise me of what you wish to know and how I can go about obtaining the desired information.

The PS3 is connected wirelessly and has flawless online while I am signed on. Randomly though, it will sign me out of the PSN (Playstation Network) and I will have to sign back in. This prevents me from doing serious online matches, as I will get booted out the moment I get signed out of the PSN. I am assuming it has to do with the network connection in general, because my computer disconnects usually at the same time.

Any insight on this matter would be appreciated. I love learning new things about computer, as one day I wish to be a tech guru of some sorts, so feel free to teach me other things as well... Read more

Hi Folks,
This is my first post and I hope you can help me.
I have recently had my ADSL main socket moved which has resulted in me using a Netgear FS608 v3 Switch to link my PS3, Vista x64 and XP PC's to the router. I also have 3 Laptops connected to the Linksys Wireless router. All machines can connect to the internet. The printer is connected via USB to the Vista x64 PC and I can print from a Laptop only if I try to "add a printer" it doesn't find one but it does print whats in the queue!
The main problem is I can't see any of my device when I look at the network, any help would be most welcome.

Though the phone is charging but not showing up in File Browser under devices. The same thing happens to my GPS when I am trying to connect it in order to update it. This is getting very frustrating. The only thing that shows up is my Flash Drive. It didn't always do this but now I can't plug in any devices to try and update them or add things to them. Please help!

Hi Freakstormer3
Thanks for writing to  us.
When did the issue start? Have you made any hardware or software changes lately?
Please update the USB drivers from support.euro.dell.com-enter tag#-submit-drivers and downloads--chose the operating system and install the chipset drivers.
Does it happens with all USB port?
Let us know how it goes.
If all the devices are disconnecting randomly still , please format the machine post backing up the data. If  still the same, then its a hardware failure.

I have updated all of my USB drivers to the newest edition available on my manufacturer's website (N56VM - Notebooks & Ultrabooks - ASUS).

Here are my specs
Asus R501V (AU/NZ equivalent to worldwide N56VM)
i7 3610QM
8GB RAM
64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

Anybody have any suggestions?

when i was trying to use just the modem, windows window bubble came up and said i have little or no activity, and i tried repairing it. windows tried to renew my IP address but that failed so there was nothing else i could think of doing.

what can i do so i can just connect throught the modem?!

I believe this problem may be to do with a card reader on your PC.

Make sure that you install the correct device drivers from your PC manufacturer's website or the disk that came with your PC (probably under removable media or chipset).

I hope this helps, if you have any questions please ask.

You'll need to identify the motherboard manufacturer and model, if you don't know it you can use a program like SIW to find out: http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html
Once you do that you can go to the manufacturer's website and download the correct drivers.

It started happening back in around November, my sister and my computer would start freezing occasionally, slurring the audio into a robotic sound, eventually to come to.

It gradually got worse, and I assumed it was a graphics card problem since it would freeze ONLY SOMETIMES and say that the graphics driver stopped working and has recovered. It usually didn't say that, though.

Lately though, I noticed that when it would freeze sometimes the internet would go out for some connected devices, such as the Xbox 360. The only computer that was NEVER affected by this is the one connected directly by Ethernet to the Netgear router, (every other device is WiFi.)

Sometimes even, my sister and mine would freeze simultaneously. It was a sort of rare occurrence, though.

I very lately started to notice that it would freeze when trying to load internet components with larger amounts of data, such as server console logs, Flash videos, and Soundcloud players. What threw me off is that it would sometimes freeze in programs like FL Studio or Windows Media Player... It's possible I guess that the programs were unrelated and what caused the freeze is SOMETHING sending/receiving corrupt packets.

I also noticed that sometimes my WiFi adapter stops functioning, although it says it works fine. I have to reset the adapter to get it to work.

I have done many virus scans since it's started and it doesn't fix anything. I've updated every type of driver, tried going low on ... Read more

Hi,

I am creating Wifi Hotspot in Windows 8.1 using the following command:

Code:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=MyHotspot key=mywifikey

Then I start the hosted network. After starting the hostednetwork, I enable Internet Connection Sharing on my Huawei E397bu-502 device (4G LTE USB Dongle) in Network Connections. I can successfully connected my Android KitKat device to the hotspot and have internet connectivity on my Android.

But the problem is that the Android Phone disconnects randomly. Then I need to run

Code:
netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

Code:
netsh wlan start hostednetwork

After this I can again connect my Android to hotspot. But the process of disconnection continues.

Same happens if I share my Huawei-E397 internet connection via USB to my Android. There are no logs available so i have no idea where is the problem.

This is a real PITA to do every single time I start the emulator, is there not an option to have specified USB devices remain connected to the emulator at all times?

Yesterday I had someone take a look at my computer to see why it was making a buzzing noise. It was dirty, and then it was cleaned. However, now the computer sometimes shuts off if something is plugged or unplugged, such as a mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc. What's wrong and how would it be fixed?

A:My computer shuts off when devices are connected/unconnected.

You need to post your system component specs. Motherboard; EXACT make, model and revision (if applicable). Processor; EXACT make, model and stepping. Memory; EXACT make and model. Graphics Card (if installed); EXACT make and model. Power Supply; EXACT make and model. Provide links to the components.

If the machine is a mass produced machine such as Dell, Gateway, HP, etc. post the EXACT make and model as there may be known problems with certain makes and models.

No one can diagnose a problem without knowing the EXACT components you used in the build or the EXACT make and model of a mass produced machine.

Hello,

I have moved into a new apartment and my laptop connects to the wi-fi network but there is no internet access. The apartment is on a school if that makes a difference, I'm not using a home router. My Mac, tablet, phone etc all connect to the same network without any issues. The connection to the network works fine via an ethernet cable but I no longer have access to the port to connect this way.

I have tried going to cmd prompt to type:
"ipconfig/release" and then "ipconfig/renew" to no avail.

I have also tried the following commands with no resolution to the problem:
ipconfig/flushdns
nbtstat -R
nbtstat -RR
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset

I have uninstalled my third-party firewall and tried selective start-up and no dice there either. I have also made sure that the IP and DNS address are obtained automatically.

Anything I can post here so someone can identify the problem please?

I have an dell dimension 2400 pc i had deleted some files with adware and now my usb's do not work. I bought a belkin pci card and installed it have usb's but under unknown in device manager it has all yellow? with yellow! and gives me a code 1 on it when clicking on properties. please i want to either recover my dell usb files or use my belkin usbs so i can get my web cam up and running...

A:yellow ? with ! in unknown devices help

Adaware will put the deleted files in quarantine if you did not delete the files in quarantine you can restore them.

You could also try a restore point,,,,,,,,, start>programs>accesories>system tools> system restore. Choose a restore point to before the time the problem started.

Another option would be if your dell came with a driver cd you could reload the usb drivers off of it

As far as the usb card, did you load the drivers that came with the card on a cd?

Hi Users ,

On a Sony Vaio SVT1312b4E Notebook I have two unknown devices that are missing drivers and I haven't a clue what they are . The laptop is working fine on build 14279 .
I don't use the SD card reader so it might be that but not sure . I just like to see no exclamation marks in device manager . I have clicked on "search for updated drivers " but cant find any .

See below. Thanks

I just clean installed W7 on a Compaq F767NR laptop formerly running Vista SP1.
All went well and the laptop is up and running.
The laptop has a Quanta 30EA motherboard - Chipset nForce 560 Rev A2

In Device Manager there were 5 unknown devices listed.
1. PCI Bus 2, Device 5, Function 1 - Base System Device
2. PCI Bus 2, Device 5, Function 2 - Base System Device
3. PCI Bus 2, Device 5, Function 3 - Base System Device
4. Coprocessor, PCI Bus 0, Device 1, Function 3
5. Other Devices - MS ACPI Compatible Device

Windows Update had 2 drivers in Important Updates
HP Quick Launch Keys - installed, solved #5 above.
Ricoh Picture Card Controller Driver - installed, solved #3 above.

I then installed Vista chipset drivers v2.5A from HP for this laptop in compatibility mode. (SP37711.exe)
Solved #4 above.

That leaves me with #1 and #2 to go. Windows can't find drivers for these devices. The Hardware Ids are:
#1 is PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&Subsys_30EA103C&Rev 12
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&Subsys_30EA103C
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&CC_088000

Alright, one of my users is on a Dell Optiplex using Windows 2000.
We cannot add a printer, at all...
I can open the printers folder, and in there is the icon for 'Add Printer', but when I double-click on it, absolutely nothing happens, nada, zip, zero...
I went through and made sure that all the latest hotfixes, patches, and service packs are installed, but still nothing...
Upon going into Device Manager, I noticed that the printer was listed as 'Unknown Device', hmm...
But then I looked at everything else, (NIC, display adapter, sound card, and all that good stuff), and EVERYTHING is listed as an unknown device
The wierd thing is, is that everything else works fine despite being 'unknown'.
So I've been searching ALL over the web to see if anyone knows anything about what's going on here, but no luck.
Hopefully you fine people, who have been so helpful in the past, can come up with something.
So does anyone know if these two issues are related?
Even if they're not, does anyone know how to fix either one?
I would rather not reinstall 2000, but if it comes down to it...

Thanks

A:How do I make an unknown devices known

It should be using the windows default HID driver. If it isn't I can't tell you why that has happened.
You may want to check windows update to see if any optional updates are outstanding.

There is no driver specifically for this device though. None was ever made.

You may also want to try disabling selective suspend.

Hello, this is my first time posting here. I have a hp pavillion 1000 running vistaI have searched everywhere for a solution to this problem, and see many viruses and trojans that sound similar to my problem, but nothing matches it exactly (and no solutions seem to work).I believe the virus came in via a pen drive, though it has infected all of my other usb drives, including my 500 gig hard disk that contains all of my data. The hard disks inside my laptop seem unaffected. For the affected drives, directories at their root levels have been replaced by executables. If I double click these, it still launches into the directories allowing me to access my files. However, it spawns a new windows explorer. Inside the subdirectories, everything appears to be normal and the directories are just simple directories. Only at the root level are they executables. It is also impossible to "show hidden files" in folder options.Up until four nights ago, my computer had been up for over 30 days with no trouble. Now, it cannot last more than a day before all of the memory is claimed. Error boxes pop up from time to time stating "server has stopped working" or "svchost has stopped working".I would gladly just re-install at this point, except that my primary external drive would likely still be infected. I have removed everything from all of my pen drives and reformatted them but it does not solve the problem. When I create a new directory on them, within seconds a n... Read more

Hi, For the past 2 weeks my internet has been playing up. Heres the problem. whenever In our home we have more than one computer on and connected to the network the latency recieved spikes into the thousands. Internet browsing speed is not affected as much its just in game lag that gets hit hard. What I noticed was once all pcs were turned off and my individual pc is the only device that was on and connected to the network the lag went away and the problem seized to exist.

We have had 2 technicians from our ISP come to our home and attempt to fix the problem but they stated that our connection is fine and the cables under the house are good. they also gave us a brand new netgear CG3100D-2 which was a last resort but that did not fix the problem too. I have done a speed test on speedtest.net while the problem was happening and the download speed is normal but the ping received shows normal on speed test but still spiking in game. Every game I play (LoL, Diablo 3 and various other online games) are all affected and im really not sure what to do to fix the problem

We currently have 2 laptops connected by WIFI and 2 pcs connected via Ethernet. Also a hole lot of mobile phones and consoles connected wirelessly to the network.

any help is appreciated

EDIT: Just playing now, My computer is the only pc connected to the network at the current time and ping still spikes

Hello,
this is my second post on this subject but im editing the title slightly ...

im in need of a command or program that'll allow me to view devices on my network that my windows 7 pc can see also ?

im basically having issues using 'wireless sync' via iTunes.

I have a main router where the internet comes in .. virgin broadband...

...and then a Belkin access point attached to the Virgin Router using one of the ports via lan ...

then all my wireless devices in the house are connected to the Belkin AP, not the Virgin router.

when i connect the devices to the virgin router wirelessly, my pc can see them ... all good !

but when i connect them to the Bel..AP, itunes doesnt see them

so im just wanting to see if my pc windows 7, actually sees devices connected wirelessly to the Bel..AP ...

many thanks in advance ...

We just got a Toshiba Protege R500-S5006X at work. There were no system disks in the box, and I've already blown-away the entire hard-drive to install one of our images on it. I've done a fresh install of Windows XP Professional with SP3 and have downloaded and installed every driver I can find on the Toshiba website (audio, bluetooth, lan, storage matrix, video, wifi, modem, chipset and the touchpad). Yet after all that, I *still* have two "Unknown Devices" in the Device Manager, and I'm damned if I can figure out what they are supposed to be.

Thanks in advance.

I reinstalled 98SE on my laptop recently to clean up some problems I was having, now there are 3 Unknown Devices in the device manager, and I get prompted to install drivers for them every time i reboot. Windows can't figure out what the devices are, and neither can I. I'm pretty sure one of them is my soundcard, but I don't know what to do with the other two files. Is there any free diagnostic programs that can tell me what these devices are? I'm going to try Belarc and see if that helps.

I clean installed an ASUS Laptop Model a2500h, Windows XP Home edition SP3.

There are two drivers that I can't seem to locate. The Hardware ID's are as follows.

ACPI\WEC0515
ACPI\WEC0517\4&19A7495A&O

I know ASUS often has utility programs that show up as drivers, for example I had the ACPI\ATK0100 which was listed as an UNKNOWN DEVICE, and I installed that utility fine.

I am just not sure about the other two. I was told on another forum that it could be something to do with the sound drivers, but I suspect it is one of ASUS' little utility programs.

Any help would be appreciated. Also if any additional info is required, let me know and I will post it.

You can go to asus's official website to download drivers, in most cases is a sound card problem.Or you can go to download a "My Drivers", to another similarly configured machine up a backup drive, then copy to your computer up.Good luck.

Hi all.

A couple days ago, I installed Windows 7 (through MSDNAA).

I have a problem with some devices. The situation can be seen here:

I tried updating driver software through windows and it said it was unable to find drivers

I have no idea what the "Unknown Device" may be. The "Multimedia Video controller" I'm guessing is my Nvidia graphics card? The Mass Storage Device I think is my Magicgate memory card slot, but I'm not sure.

I have an Nvidia 8400M GT graphics card and judging by what I've seen on the resolution window (and device manager), I'm currently running on my standard VGA graphics device, and not my Nvidia.

I manually searched for the drivers for my graphics card off the Nvidia site, but every time I try to install it, I get this messege

]I've already tried reformatting and reinstalling windows 7, now I'm running out of ideas. Can anybody please help?

I'm using a Sony Vaio TP3 computer. It's a "desktop" with laptop components and was initially running on Vista.

Thanks

As far as the card, make sure you got the right drivers from nvidia for either x32 or x64 for windows 7. also try windows update a few times, not everything comes up right away. do these and report back lol

Today I looked at my Bluetooth settings on my Surface Pro 3 and noticed there were two devices paired to my computer that I don't recognize. One was an LG keyboard phone, another is a computer. I removed both devices. I have never authorized these devices to connect and I am the only user of my computer.

Is this a cause for concern? What access could these devices gain in this way? I leave my Bluetooth on all the time, is that unwise?

Thanks for any advice.
