Devices sees Router but will not connect

Q: Devices sees Router but will not connect

Hi everyone. Ive been having a problem with my Netgear WGT624v3 router. Its broadcasting the WIFI signal ok. My devices pick it up but cannot connect. If i go and unplug the router and then plug it back in all the devices connect. They will stay connected for several hours but then the connection will drop. They can still see the router and they try to connect but i have to unplug it and then plug it back in, then they all connect again. Its happened with my phone, my laptop and my Kindle Fire. Any ideas guys? Thanks.

A: Devices sees Router but will not connect

can we see the following form one of the wireless pc when connected and working and the repeat ALL the tests when it disconnects

ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Ping Tests
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

Start> Run {search bar in Vista/W7}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

Type the following command
Ping {plus the number thats shown against the default gateway shown in above ipconfig /all}
Post back the results
rightclick in the box
select all
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Post back the results
rightclick in the box
select all
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
post back results
rightclick in the box
select all
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste
For your information only
these tests will check various stages of the connection, the first ping test, ping default gateway checks to see if you still have a connection to the router the next two
Ping & Ping tests the connection to internet , one by name and one by number which checks that the dns is workingClick to expand...

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Direct link to the program is here

{If the above link does not work heres another link,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

A user guide is available here

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.
Full details are here

For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better.

Multi layered problem here. Win XP. ISP had service problems in our area. Once restored, my system went haywire. All devices work fine independently but won't talk to each other. My laptop reports that it's connected to my wireless but there's no internet connection. I've deleted profiles and rebuilt, no luck. Uninstalled and disabled adapter. I've released/renewed IP config. When I repair the connection, the error message reads that it can't complete the operation because it cannot connect to the wireless network. At the same time the status reads connected with excellent signal strength. But I can jump on my neighbor's unsecured connection and surf away. PC is ethernet connected to router and no problem.

Had to reset my router in the process. D-Link WBR2310. But can't load config page once internet connection was restored. Page not found errors. When the Motorola modem wouldn't connect, I could access config page. So it's set to factory default, unsecured. This is eating away at me.

All has worked perfect for years so this sudden disruption is puzzling and perplexing. HELP!!

My wireless devices are having a hard time connecting though my router. They see the router and can connect to it but cannot get on the internet. When I go into my router and check Wireless Status to see connected devices the window is empty. Usually if I reboot my router some of my devices will connect but if I leave them idle for any amount of time the connection is dropped. Suggestions. I have Dell 530 desktop running Vist Home Premium and the router is Dlink Dir 615. The desktop has no issues connecting to the internet as it is connected through LAN port

A:Devices can see router but cannot connect

Please show for the Dell 530 and, if any of the other devices are running Windows, the following ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I have a D-Link DIR-652 router, and I can see that it is broadcasting but I cannot connect through my laptop, tablet, or phone. Sometimes it will let me connect but other times it says it is unable to. I can connect when I plug into the router through a cable. I'm doing that now, and I did an ipconfig/all in case it's helpful to see that:

Basically, what's happened is that after transferring my old PC's data onto my new one, and putting that one in place of my old one, therefore hooking up my modem to it, my wireless devices have been having trouble connecting to the router. Everything's hooked up fine, and it was working perfectly before, but now my devices such as my laptop and Droid Pro can SEE the router (As in connect to it and say that they are getting excellent signal strength), but when I try to open my browser, it asks as if I'm not connected to anything at all. The PC that's wired to the modem through the router works fine, however.

Just recently my Lenovo laptop w/Windows 8.1 will not connect to my Vizio wireless router but it was fine a few months ago. This laptop will connect to my AT&T modem/router.
All my other wifi devices connect to both routers. The only one that does not is the Lenovo laptop with Windows 8.1. I suspect the last windows update screw up my connection. My laptop will connect to Vizio router wired. Every time Microsoft updates I get problems. Vizio router is xwr100. Any suggestions?

Please help me

A:Formatted PC with Windows disc, no devices and cannot connect to router

what you need are the drivers for your PC.
If it is from Dell,HP or similar go on their support page and get drivers for your PC there.
If this is self built PC, than you will need to know what are the components inside, especially network card and than download the drivers.
I suppose you will download drivers on your laptop.Put the drivers on an USB key or CD and then install them on your desktop. usually once the chipset and network card is installed, the rest you can download directly on this PC. Do not forget to install anti-virus software and do the updates.

Evening all !
This is is driving me bonkers !
I recently changed the wireless access password on my BT Infinity router and disconnected every device - including 4 phones, 2 iPads a laptop and an aging Vista PC.
I've changed all the passwords on all the devices and they all connect again to the hub under the new password - except the PC !
The PC connects via a Belkin USB adapter.
The wireless network appears - highlight, click connect - says getting information from BTHub, eventually asks for the password - enter my new password - and immediately get Windows cannot connect.
Things I've tried :
Rebooted BTHub
Rebooted PC (several times)
Control Panel > Network and sharing centre > Manage Wireless Networks  and deleted network profiles.
Deleted the USB adapter and reinstalled.
The Belkin device is working OK as I can connect to an non-secure BT Hotspot on the PC and it's blue light flashes (as normal) when communicating with the BTHub.
Any advice greatly appreciated - this is the Old machine I've dedicated to the kids for You Tube etc. - they ain't happy !!!!!!!!!
Many thanks
Blue Sierra

A:Changed wireless router password for security - all devices connect except PC !

Was the driver downloaded from the Belkin site? Right click the adapter in Device Manager and select Properties. Under the Details tab select Hardware IDs in the dropdown box. Copy and paste the first line in your next post. There may be a later driver available, especially if an intel chipset is used.
What is the model number of the Belkin? Did you change the encryption type on the router? i.e. from WPA to WPA2? TPIK to AES?

I have 2 laptops, an ipad, and 2 smart phones using a dlink router. All devices connect to the router beautifully but will not access the Internet.
Both laptops will access the internet when hardwired to the modem via Ethernet cable.
Rebooted the modem, rest the router, still no connection.
Reset router and one laptop can access the Internet. The other one can't.
ipad and 2 smart phones will not access the Internet even after the reboot of both the modem and router.

It would seem that one laptop at a time can access the Internet through the router with a lot of rebooting and resetting of the router.

I spent a long while on the phone with my Internet Provider and they were no help.
Any suggestions sure would be appreciated.

This is a new problem as all devices have formerly worked great.

As it says on the tin really! I am an absolute non technically minded person so have no idea how to even start trying to fix this problem. A few weeks ago our router quite happily let multiple devices attach wirelessly to the internet at once but in the last couple of weeks it has started only allowing one device at a time to connect to the internet. If say my partners work laptop is connected then our home laptop/iPad can see the wireless router but it will not allow them to connect to the internet anymore. Can anyone help me to try and sort this please...I can use my computer for basic things but am in no way technically minded so please be very clear and simple with any help you are able to give.

I have an ABIT BD7 Raid motherboard, I Pentium 4 CPU and Windiows 98 operating system. Everything is working fine. Its just that when I boot up, my Bios when scanning for devices says it sees no Hard drive, CDROM or anything. When checking my MoBo manual it says that if I had an old harddrive that was already formatted, this would happen. I need to fdisk to get the MoBo to see the Harddrive and CDROM. My question is, if everything is working fine, should I fix this or just ignore it? And if it can be fixed can I do a fdisk without loosing anything on my hard drive, or in general messing up my computer which is working fine now for several months?

I have a Western Digital MyBook (external drive that connects via Firewire) and an iPhone. Up until about a day or so ago, both were working just fine. I could see both devices in explorer and connect to them without any problems.

Now, I'm no longer able to see them in Explorer. My PC still "sees" the devices on some level because the iPhone will connect and sync with iTunes. (I just can't get to the iPhone as an USB drive from explorer.)

The HD is still listed in the device manager. However it is listed as "This device is not configured correctly." I've tried uninstalling, disabling, reinstalling drivers, different ports and have had no luck getting my machine to see either device. I've rebooted with them plugged in/unplugged, drivers/no drivers, and even tried different ports. I even tried system restore.

I've also verified that there is nothing wrong with the HD or the iPhone. Both connect flawlessly on my husband's Vista (non 64bit of course) machine. I also have thumb drive that connects (and shows up in explorer with no problems).

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks

Good day all,
I have bumped into a bit of a problem that I have issues resolving. I am trying to connect to a network using usb wifi adapter. I get 5 bars of signal which is max on the scale but it will not connect.
Network is WPA2 personal / AES, settings are correct as well as password. The connection worked for a bit and then I was dropped off. I have tried reseting IP, i have tried changing USB port connection on the laptop I have restarted the laptop...
The thing that baffles me is that when I take my laptop out and go to where I can get signal with the built-in wifi adapter I get connected without a problem...
Any suggestions will be most appreciated... Thanks in advance

Have a Vizio tv that can see the wireless - NetGear router. The internet service is through HughesNet. Laptop, iPhone, and iPad have no issues connecting to wireless.

A:Vizio TV sees wireless but won't connect

do you have wireless security enabled on the router - if so I would log into the router and remove the security and se if the TV can connect with no security
if not then with no security enabled
post back the TV netwrok settings

IP address
subnet mask
default gateway

is it set to manual or automatic detect/dhcp

from the laptop
post back a ipconfig /all

we can then try to manually set up the connection

once working - we can then try and put the wireless security back on again

ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

I am having trouble connecting to a particular wireless network with my pc laptop. I can see the router and have very good signal strength, and while the laptop says it is connected, when I try to load any webpages I get a time out error that says the website cannot be found. I followed some instructions I found for using the terminal prompt to get a new IP address, but that didn't help (assuming I did it right.) With the terminal prompt, I was able to ping and had a response right back.

I am able to use this laptop elsewhere to connect to wireless networks all the time--this is the first trouble I've had.

I am using a Dell 5150 laptop with XP SP2, and have tried IE 6 and Firefox. It is a Linksys router. (sudden thought: I connect at home to another router named "linksys"...could this be the problem?) I brought my mac laptop (OSX 10.4) in to see if it could connect to the problem network, but got the same thing: strong signal, immediate connection, good ping, but no websites.

Any ideas?

My Netgear MA311 802.11b PCI card sees the network of my Linksys WRT53G router, and the signal strength is high. However, when I try to connect to it, it says it's detecting the network type, then I get the error that's attached. It works fine with the cable plugged in, and I was able to connect to someone else's wireless network. The router works wirelessly with my laptop. It seems like there's something wrong with the combination of this router and this wireless card. I'm guessing that it's just a setting I need to change on the router, but I have no idea what to look for. Any ideas on where I should start?

I've entered the password and attempted to logon to ours, but it appears to time out and give up.

A:Solved: Wireless Card in PC- sees network but won't connect

You need to use ONLY the HEX key option with WEP, the passcode doesn't always work across equipment brands. First off, try disabling encryption to get connected, then add in the encryption as a separate step.

I've read lots of posts & tutorials. The answer is probably out there someplace, but after a week of getting nowhere, I ask for help.

I have a home LAN set up as a WORKGROUP. In the wrkgrp is a W2K computer, a printer (have to go through the W2K system to get to it), and my laptop, with Win7.

The W2K computer sees and can access the Win7 shared files & folders.
The Win7 computer access's the internet through my LAN and router.

It discovers the W2K system and shows it as part of the LAN but when I try to access the W2K computer, authentication fails.

From the Win7 network directory, I click on the W2k computer.
I get a popup that asks for the Network password: enter the user name on the machine I am trying to access, enter the user password.

For information, the popup also indicates that the Win7 laptop is a member of a domain (the laptop's name).

I put in the username and pwd for the account on the W2K computer, but it won't connect. The popup returns, telling me what I entered was wrong. It tells me that the \\(domain name)\(user name) password failed.

I tried mapping to a drive on the W2K computer with its UNC, but get the same popup and the same failure.

I thought maybe the "network password" request meant enter the network name & password that I gave to the LAN in the router, but using those didn't let it authenticate, either.

I turned off the setting requring password authentication for connecting to other machines.

A:Win7 sees LAN but won't connect--asks for network password

If the workgroups are set to be the same on all systems, then you should use the same username and password. If you aren't willing to do that, you should try mapping by replacing the domain name with the remote computer name. So if you are on a Windows 7 computer, you can connect to the older computer by using the \\oldcomputername\usernameonoldcomputer and see if that works.

The easiest way to network computers on a home non-domain network has always been to use the same workgroup names, and set the same username and password combo on all machines. I've never had a problem doing this since the current network stack config was used in Win 2000 all the way up to Server 2008 R2 boxes.

I have been unable to connect to anything on my wired network, for about the last week. I don't remember making any changes however, I just became unable to connect.

I having done a little troubleshooting.

1. I can connect to the shares of my Windows Home Server if I use the IP address. The name does not resolve.

2. Flushed DNS and restarting DNS server. Flushing DNS works on one client, to allow browsing by the name & restarting DNS works on the other. However neither works after a restart.

3. Only my Wifi clients are experiencing this issue. My wired clients, desktops, PS3, Xbox 360, and Boxee can connect perfectly.

This issue is not limited to my server. I can't connect to shares on my desktop, nor print to my wired printer.

Some network background:

I have DSL through CenturyLink and have a Linksys E2000 router.

Sent a test page from one laptop to the printer at 6:36pm, it finally printed at 6:48pm....

Hi all,

I've recently upgraded to w10 but weirdly now windows only sees 8GB. When I had w8 it saw all 12GB of ram but now only 8GB.

I've checked CPUZ and it can see the 12GB fine but windows still only sees 8GB (and not '8GB usable', it actually only sees 8GB).

I've already looked to see if I should update motherboard BIOS but it's an Asus Rampage Extreme III and the last BIOS was released in 2011 (I have that one installed).

Does anyone have any idea what I should do?

Thanks for your time!

no, that will not work as it is only a 'wire connector' and not a signal converter.

here's how; do not put anything into the RJ11 slot on the ADSL WiFi router.

connect an ethernet cable from a LAN slot on the router connected to the phone line
TO another lan slot on the WiFi router. This will cause the WiFi router to act very much
link a switch. Just be sure the DHCP service (on this device) is disabled and only the primary router has DHCP active.

You will still need to setup the WiFi configuration (but do so ONLY with a wired connection to it).

I was trying to make my sister-in-law's wireless connection secure (they've had wireless set up for awhile unsecured), and all seemed to go well until magically, it didn't. It allowed me to set up a password -WPA2/Personal, it was fine, other devices (ipod Touch and another laptop) connected to the network by putting in the right key. HOWEVER, the original laptop, now wants no part of connecting to this network. It finds the network, but doesn't even let me get to a stage at which I need to enter the WPA key. It automatically says it can't connect, and is very useless when I hit "Diagnose the problem". I am only marginally less clueless than the people that asked for my help, so please don't get too technical on me. I have spent hours trying to figure out what the problem is, and though I know it's obviously something with the computer's setting, I don't know what that is.

When I go to the Network and Sharing Center, rather than being a three-way "map", it's two - the computer, then the internet. There is nothing (ie, router) in between. I have no idea how to get that step back in there.

I have connected the router to the laptop directly, and an internet connection does come up, so it isn't an ISP issue. The wireless does work with the devices mentioned above, as well as my own laptop, just not the central laptop.

I understand it may be a TCP/IP issue (or something like that), but I don't kn... Read more

I have a lenovo u160 running windows 7, a couple of days ago it seemed my computer was infected with something, giving a series of security warnings I had not seen before (not av security suite). It slowed the computer down for a few minutes.

After closing these messages, there seemed to be no problem, but then my computer was no longer connect to the internet. It connects to our router/wireless network, but not to the internet.

I tried resetting and unplugging the router and the modem, but still no luck. We have two other computers on the same network that are connecting to both the network and the internet.

I tried running rkill and malwarebytes twice and no malicious items were detected.

I restored the computer to an earlier point (2-3 days earlier)

On the toolbar in the bottom right of the taskbar, it shows a 5 white signal bars, with a "!" inside a yellow triangle.
If I click on the network button it states it is "connected" to the network. It describes the connection as "excellent" (4-5/5 bars).

Above the display of the available networks, it states

"currently connected to:
Unidentified network
No Internet access"

I am not computer savvy and have not run into this problem before. Thanks for your time and help.

I own two routers - D-Link DSL-504 (ADSL, not wireless) and D-Link DIR-635 (wireless).

The set-up used to be like this:
- Internet (ADSL) cable pluged in DSL-504 router
- PC connected to DSL-504 via Ethernet port
- DIR-635 connected to DSL-504 (Ethernet port to 'Internet' port) - DSL-504 works as a 'modem'
- Laptop wirelessly connected to DIR-635

Everything has worked (note: it wasn't me who set this up).

Unfortunatelly I have reseted the DIR-635 (wireless router) because of some troubles. Now the wireless router doesn't connect to the Internet. I can connect either computer via cable with the first router and it works like a dream. Computers can also see the DIR-365 router when connected to it via cable, but it does not see the Internet.

I've switched the setup on and off several times. Cables work. Computers work, they can see Internet from other sources.

I guess I need to configure the wireless router in some certain way, but I really have no idea, how.

I'd be grateful for your help.

A:Solved: Router cannot connect to Internet (via another router used as a modem)

Probably IP Address conflict as both D-Links would usually use for default internal (LAN) IP.

You would need to change the LAN IP address of the DIR-615 to another subnet such as for a modem LAN port to router WAN (Internet) port connection unless the DIR-615 can be set as an access point. Will need to check the User Manual to see. Will pull up a PDF and check.

Another option would be to set up using the following method by John Will.
Connecting two soho routers in a network
Tutorial from Johnwill from the Networking Forum

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address, for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Hey all,

I'm trying to connect my wireless router to my wired router.

Ideally I want the following: internet--> A --> 3 PCs + B -->itouch+ps3 +laptops

A: Gnet External ADSL modem with 4-port switch bb0055 (note: this is a modem/wired router)
B: Trendnet Wireless router tew-639gr

All 3 PCs have internet, so i'm sure my wired router is working properly. Using an ethernet cable, I've connected a Lan port in my Wireless router to a Lan port in my Wired router. My itouch, ps3, and laptops can connect to my wireless but I'm not getting any internet. I've also been able to access my wireless settings and change a couple of things.

From what I've read online, In B, I need to turn off the LAN DHCP and change my LAN IP Address. I've tried a couple of things but it still isn't working. Also what should I set my WAN settings to in my wireless router?

I am a professional designer with a digital press (canon imagePress C1)
What i want to do is connect the printer to a router and then some how connect that router to the main router where the internet comes in Wirelessly.

I cant plug a computer into the printer. The computers are upstairs and the printer is downstairs. There is also no way of connecting the printer to the main router(A)

My general basic idea is connect the printer to a router(B) via small ethernet cable.

Then me being optimistic Router(B) wirelessly sees router(A) so then I can print to it wirelessly from upstairs.

I hope this makes sense?!?!?!?

A:Solved: Connect wireless router and wired router

This should be pretty easy. Just connect the D-Link router's WAN port to one of the Linksys router's LAN ports. The computers connected to the D-Link router will be isolated from the Linksys connected computers by the D-Link router's NAT firewall.

I have My PC (Win7) with Netgear WGR614v7 connected by Wired LAN to Topfield 7100 Pvr and Laptop (XP Pro). My main concern is the Topfield Pvr which must download programs from IceTV Interactive for Recording. After setting it up as DHCP (reccommended by both Ice TV and Topfield) and Pinging both ways to prove connection, I logged into the Router to check Network Status. The Topfield was displayed in the Attached Devices Page of the Router. Satisfied that all was setup OK, I logged out of the Router. Later in the day, I again logged into the Router to again check the Status of the Network. I am of the belief, that once Devices are Setup, Remain Connected. Remain ON and are available for Communication (proven by Pinging), they should at all times be visible in the Attached Devices Page of the Router.
As I am not familiar with how the Router maintains its contact with Devices, I am at a loss to understand if my belief is correct or what may be the cause of my apparrent problem.
Any advice will be most helpful. I do not particularly want to buy a new Router.

I am trying to build a setup to read a lot of smart cards.

I have a dedicated USB controller card with 4 USB port which each should be able to run up to the 128 USB devices.

On 1 powered USB hub with 10 ports I have connected 6 USB smart card readers and 3 other powered USB
hubs with each 10 USB smart card readers so a total of 36 smart card readers.

This connected gives a total of 42 USB devices (36 readers, 4 hubs, 1 mice, 1 keyboard).

We have checked the power setup and the powered USBs is providing fine.

It runs without any problems at all on any of the USB controller ports.

Connecting one more USB device of any kind results in it not loading. A reboot with the unit connected gives a random USB unit failing but the removing any other will bring that one up.

So it seems like somewhere theres a blocker at 42 USB devices any who know if there is such a thing in windows?

Hello Everyone,
My roommate and I recently installed WiFi in our apartment, but since the beginning 3 devices have consistently been able to connect and 2 have consistently not been able to connect.
-My Lenovo Thinkpad
-Roommate's HP 2000 Notebook PC
-Roommate's HP Compaq desktop
Not Connecting:
-My HP Pavillion laptop
-My Dell Precision desktop
All devices are running versions of Windows.
On the HP Pavillion laptop (Windows 7), when I enter the password to connect to Wifi, I just get the message, "Could not connect to [network name]." This message seems to pop up too quickly, as if the computer didn't really have to think before rejecting the attempt. It seems like it took even less time than when you simply enter a wrong WiFi password on any given computer, which leads me to think that the HP didn't really try to establish the connection.
On the Dell Precision desktop (Windows 10), the problem is stranger: I have apparently connected to the network, but I still have no internet access; so when I look at the network in the queue, it says "Secured, no internet."
Also, I repeat that the problem is consistent, not sporadic. All devices consistently either work or don't.
1. Signal strength: Definitely not--it is strong throughout the apartment.
2. Versions of Windows: Probably not. My non-connecting laptop and desktop ... Read more

What happened ? :
Nothing obvious. Everything functions as before. Therefore, I know the new ram "works". But to what extent? Replacment ram IS recognized as TWO GB by BIOS but ONLY recognized as ONE GB by XP
I suppose the fact that we now know that bios
recognizes the replaced ram, does not in itself mean in itself that XP OS actually 'manages' this extra ram (which it does not recognize in the first place)

Does it make sense 'to assume' that this newly added ram is nevertheless operative, and does makes a difference, and can help w sw like resource-hungry Photoshop v 7 which I also installed

In the below cited vid?o, an American technicien, who replaced ram on an Asus netbook (not my mod?le); demonstrated by screen display that the newly installed ram was bios-recognized but he mentioned something about a "kernel" needing modif, because if I understood him correctly, the OS didn't recognize the extra ram. He spoke so quickly. Where can this kernel lodge?

Bit of an odd problem here, hoping someone could offer solutions until I have access to the router settings.
So, I just moved into the 3rd floor of a house here in Boston. I have a desktop, and so I have always used ethernet cables. Unfortunately, the router is on the second floor of the home here, and it's impossible for me to run a cable, so I went out and purchased a wireless adapter (netgear n300). The adapter is great, not a problem. The problem is, when scanning for networks, I can see his router, which is using WEP. I connect, but it refuses to acquire an ip. I can connect to other networks fine, just not the one I need. The man who lives downstairs won't be home for a few hours, so I won't have access to the router until then. I have tried to get to the router from my desktop, but don't seem to be working, so I have no idea what the default ip could be. Are there any other possible explanations for why this could be happening? Also, what should I do in the router settings when I get access later on tonight?

Any help is severely appreciated!

My iphone 4 is a few years old now and has for some time struggled to consistently connect and stay connected to the wifi, my asus had some problems but they were hardware related and I fixed them a couple of months ago. The acer netbook had been connecting to the wifi fine since my mum was given it when a few months ago it suddenly wouldnt connect and no matter what I did to the settings of the laptop or router it could not be solved, as my mum is not heavily reliant on technology we got her a long ethernet cable as a short-term fix. A few weeks later I wanted to use the internet functions of my samsung tv so I took the cable from the netbook as my mum wasnt there at the time. When my mum returned she complained about me having taken the cable but then found her netbook was working over the wifi again, since then it has stopped working with the wifi again. My vaio and ps3 have never suffered problems before and my 5 has only began to struggle since being water damaged.

About 3 days ago I was in my kitchen where the wifi barely reaches and therefore paid no attention when my vaio lost connection and wouldnt regain it. It... Read more

With the iphone I would try to forget the wifi network under your settings and then trying to reconnect it. They have weird issues like this often and that usualy fixes the issues. I have also have seen issues in the past with how my wireless routers have been configured. I have seen issues with mixed mode configurations and such. Can you send me any information on how your wireless router is configured?

I have a THOMSON TG585 v7 DSL router and when I browsed devices connected i found 2 unknown devices and apart from my 2 pcs, a switch and a media player I have nothing else wired and the wireless option is disabled.

A:unknown devices connected to DSL router

Obvious question #1: do you learn anything by clicking on the unknown devices?

Obvious question #2: do the unknown devices correspond to the switch and media player (check the MAC addresses)?

A friend currently has a Belkin wireless G router and uses a D-Link DGL-3420 gaming adapter to connect her XBox 360 to her wireless network. This configuration works fine but she did have an issue where the connection was lost and the troubleshooting tool on the Xbox 360 recommended using an 802.11a connection to avoid possible interference problems. Apparently, the wireless Xbox 360 controller she uses broadcasts at 2.4GHz, just like 802.11g.

So, I'm looking at replacing her Belkin router with one that supports 802.11a. I see 802.11n wireless routers should support 802.11a/b/g devices but I was wondering if anyone here had any "real world" experience with connecting to a 802.11n wireless router using 802.11a.

Did it work for you? Have any problems?

A:Anyone have experience with 802.11a devices and a 802.11n wireless router?

I've connected to my ZyXEL N router using an 802.11a adapter, worked just fine. That's a sample of one.

I have a Cisco Linksys E1200 router. Three computers are wired to it while my laptop connects to it wirelessly. When I look at the network topology (Network and Sharing Center->See full map), it shows that my laptop is connected to E1200 (this one has the same name as the router but different icon. The icon has an antenna. Thus, I think it is some kind of wireless device) which is connected to a switch, then a hub, then to the E1200.

Why are there three devices between the wireless router and my laptop?

A:Why so many devices between my laptop and the wireless router?

Just a quick guess....

Is one of the "wired" computers set to use Internet Connection Sharing? My dad (80 y.o. and still buying the latest hardware) did that once in the XP days and had an issue similar to yours. He never lost connectivity, but took the long way to get there. Found the issue doing a traceroute.

I know it's not the devices because if I keep turning my router off and on it will work eventually but when reset then something else can't connect.

In my home there are two desktops (the main one is hooked up to the router) four tablets, two laptops, two Roku boxes, and three phones that are all connected to my Belkin Router. All of a sudden the only device that will connect to the Router is the main desktop (I'm hoping it won't conk out on me too). On all the devices you can see the network but it won't connect. I want to say that this occurred after I renewed and reinstalled my Norton Security program on the computer but I'm not 100% sure that it started after that, maybe 85% sure.

What could be the reason for this and how do I fix it? The tablets, laptops, and phones all connect just fine to the internet outside of the home so I know it isn't the devices.

Oh I am a complete tech novice so please give very detailed directions as I have no idea about IP address, DNS or anything else to do with computers. I basically know turn it on and use it no back of the house stuff. Sorry.

A:Devices won't connect to the internet

so no devices will connect to your router with wireless - is that correct ?

whats the exact model of the belkin and how old is it
have you switched OFF and left off for 15 mins
then turned back on

does it have any lights on the front - if so is there one for wireless and is it on ?

USB: you're supposed to be able to connect 100+ devices.

Erm... from my experience, when you connect multiple devices altogether, connected via different hubs: some will just stop working and not respond.

I've found that when this happens, if you randomly plug things in and out then you can get the one you want to work... or just do a reboot or something.

What am I missing? I'm sure I must be doing something wrong.

Is the secret to use powered USB hubs?

I have just purchased a used Dell Inspiron 1525. Unfortunately I haven't been able to use it. Everytime I try and connect a usb device, it asks to check for the device's software but it won't install any devices without the internet being connected. Every time I plug one in, an dail up internet connection page pops up and as soon as I close it, it says that the computer was unable to install device. However I use a usb modem for my internet, so it isn't able to unpack and install on the laptop. Its not just the modem that won't install, its all USB sticks. If I let the internet connection page stay up it will just spend lots of time trying to install the device but won't and as soon as I close the internet connection box it instantly says device installation fail. Its running on Vista Home Premium.
The person I bought it off said she had a hard time getting all of her documents and files off without wiping vista too, so I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it.
I really have no idea at all in how to fix this. Any help would be very much appreciated!!

I can't connect to the internet on my laptop for some reason - right now I am on safe mode and the internet is working, however it does sometimes lose the connection on safe mode too. All other devices, such as other laptops, phones and kindles can connect to the internet with ease, so I am so confused! I have run different anti virus checks and they have all found nothing. I'm not sure if this is worth saying - but my laptops battery needs to be replaced so maybe that has something to do with it?

I've recently upgraded my laptop from vista home premium to windows 7 ultimate and ever since I haven't been able to connect any usb devices. So I checked in device manager and all the usb ports have yellow exclamation points on them and according to device manager this is the problem 'Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)'. I've searched the internet and tried deleting the upper and lower filter registry files, but that doesn't seem to work, any other ideas?

A:Cannot connect any usb devices in windows 7

Hi, go to start search and type devmgmt.msc press enter. Device manager will open, navigate to Universal serial bus controllers, right click on all you see and for each one select "uninstall" if prompted (you should not be) DO not select to uninstall the drivers. Reboot windows will reinstall all devices.

A little advice to those that might read this "upper and lower class filters" if you right click on say USB root hub and select properties then the "details tab" you can expand the "device description" this will show if filters are installed plus heaps of other useful info.

Hi all

A friend of mine currently has a wired network connected to the internet via a router. He has gone out and bought a wireless router already and he wants to connect a couple of machine and a laptop to the wireless router. I know he woulod have been better with a AP (access Point) but what i would like to know is if it is possible to connect his new wireless router to the wired one somehow. Any advice is greatly appreaciated...Cheers

A:Can i connect a Wireless Router to a wired router

Very simple:

Connecting two SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

Please forgive me if this isn't the right area of the forum I should ask this. I'm not really tech savvy when it comes to router stuff, so I'm also going to explain this as best as I can, so sorry if I'm not as thorough as I possibly can be.

I just got Verizon Fios and I'm wondering if I can connect it to my old router. Basically I'm trying to do this because my office is at one area in the house(where the Fios modem is) and on the other side is my media PC and game consoles.

Now I have enough cable to go from point A to point B, but it's only one cable and I have several things I'd like to hook up.

Hopefully someone here can help me because,I don't want to go buy a ton of ethernet cord and I'm not looking to spend any more money buying a wireless bridge.

My old router is a D-Link WBR-2310.

A:Can I Connect my old router with with my new Fios modem/router?

I disabled DHCP in my d-link router and I'm now able to connect to the internet on my PC. I plugged a cable that was in a LAN port on my fios modem/router into a LAN port on my D-Link router then plugged my PC into the D-Link modem.

My only problem is that when I plug in my Xbox 360, It won't connect(It will though if I just plug it right into my Fios modem/router).

Yesterday afternoon, my internet appeared to have gone down. I attempted to fix it in the usual way (turn it off and on) but to no avail. I assumed it must be on the ISPs end and continued on with my day.

The internet was still not working this morning, so I checked to see if it might be the router that is causing the issue. Lo and behold, I can access the internet through the modem. Great, router is bust.

Reconfigured it, I updated the firmware, and then did a series of ping tests.

Ping test to google through the ethernet was successful. Ping test to router IP address through the router was successful. Ping test to google through router was unsuccessful.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be? Just to reiterate, this is an issue across all devices (Mac, PC, iPhone/iPad, Android, PS3, etc... )

A:Router spontaneously stops working across all devices

Hopefully, you know and can still log into the router.
find the WAN side, specifically Router Status or that display that

IP Address (the public address, not 192.x.y.z)
Default Gateway (your connection to the ISP)
DHCP Server (will not be one of your lan addresses)
Subnet Mask

DNS Server
Lease Obtained
Lease Expires
if any of the first three are missing, then the modem did not feed the information to the router
OR the router did not save it.

disconnect the modem->router
power off both
wait one minute
power on the modem
connect the router (but still powered off)
when the modem is fully sync'd with the ISP
power on the router
from your computer

ping (a ping by address)
nslookup (a dns request that should resolve to an address)

Hey guys,

Just a quick one I'm sure most could answer, I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to Wifi, and my router is kicking devices off when we have more than 4, picking and choosing which devices it will allow Wifi too. My Router is a D-Link: DSL-2780, I'm with Talk-Talk in the UK.

So I have a TP-LINK TL-WR841ND 300Mbps router and the basic problem is, that it repeatedly drops the internet connection and also the devices connected to it. But the my main computer, which is wired to the router has never had any problem, even at the time, when the wireless doesn't work. I use many os like win7, ios 5.1.1 on iPad 3rd, a samsung smart tv and a samsung smartphone with android. But as I mentioned it only happens with wireless, never with the wired computer. When the problem occurs there is no device, which can connect to the internet and to the router, except the wired one.

I've tried all of the encryptions and security methods, at the moment I use WPA2-PSK with AES (also tried with TKIP and automatic mode, and with disabled security too), but neither have helped me. Then I contacted the reseller and they gave me a new one, and said it could have had some special problem. The new one, which I'm using now, got the same problem.

Have any ideas why this problem occurs repeatedly? Or if you need more information about my devices, router or settings, please write me. Thanks in advance!

Wired devices work fine

A:Dual band router devices work on 5 ghz but not 2.4

If you have a Windows PC with the problem ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with a screen shot see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows Vista or latter I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Identify your network if it is not obvious.

I have 2 wireless PCs and a BlackBerry that connect to my dlink router. I am finding that my BlackBerry is constantly getting kicked off the network, and I always have to reconnect before I can use the internet. (It still says that it's connected though) I was told that a dual channel router would fix this.

So my question is, will 3 devices work without a problem on a dual channel router? Or is my BlackBerry still going to be "booted off"?

A:How many devices can a dual channel router handle?

Normally some router default is opening of some ports like http, and ftp which may be made more secured , by portforwarding the ports to unused devices ip, in one"s pc. This is the solution given by leading av, and i do not know, how to know the ips of the unused devices on my computer.

I feel bad for starting a new thread on the subject, but I looked through a bunch of the other threads and I couldn't find a solution.

I am on a Dell Laptop (Latitude D600)
And I'm running Windows XP Ver 5.1 Service Pack 3
My ISP is Speedlink Cable
We are using an SMC modem/router SMC8014WN

My roommate can connect to wirelessly, and I can connect with a hard wire connection. I also can connect to the router (full speed), but I get limited or no connectivity to the internet.

I connect to the wireless via a 'NETGEAR WG111v2 54Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter' using the NETGEAR SMART WIZARD - Wireless Assistant WG111v2

When I run IPCONFIG /ALL the output is:

A:Can connect to wireless router BUT cannot connect to internet :(

Try putting static IP addresses in to your wireless network connection.
By the looks of it it seems your wireless connection cannot get an IP address automatically via DHCP.

Let me know if this works or you need help doing this.

I have a wireless network, through LinkSys an access point and switch.
The access point acts like the router, I have to laptops which need to connect to the internet, they can see the intranet, but when I ping the router the host is unreachable. The ip's are static, and have been setup manually. I can't understand how they can reach the local network but not the external. Any advice?

I've been able to connect my Windows 8.1 laptop to my phone for some time. But since yesterday I haven't been able to. The phone and laptop detect each other. But they don't connect. I tried to uninstall the bluetooth driver which automatically reinstalls at boot up on the laptop.. But that doesn't work. What should I do?

A:Laptop Can't Connect to Devices through Bluetooth - HELP

You'll need to look into the Bluetooth setting you have that somewhere different computers have different ways of accessing the Bluetooth setting.

Im having problems connecting my laptop (Win. 7) to my network. I am able to connect to my network with various different devices EXCEPT my laptop. There for I've concluded this is not a problem with my network itself. Its something to do with my laptop. I am able to "connect" to my network but says in have "Limited Access". My Ipv4 & Ipv6 say not connected. I've tried connecting via Ethernet cable, but no luck. I've tried everything from restarting my laptop and router to opening command prompt and refreshing. I was just able to connect to internet a few hours ago. Also, I noticed this problem first at a friends on a totally different WiFi network. That is when the problem started. I thought maybe there was something wrong with his network, but that's not the case.

Really need some help here.

I am experiencing a problem with my Windows 8.1 Laptop connecting to the local network through wireless. Here is what I have tested/know:

When I use the W8.1 laptop and try to connect via WiFi to my home router I can either never connect (90% of the time) or the connection is very slow and drops after a short time (10% of the time).Problem has been apparent for a month or so but seems to be getting worse. If I set up my 4G phone as a WiFi Access Point I can connect to internet via W8.1 Laptop without problem. If I connect the laptop via a cable to my home router there is also no problem. The problem seems worse when I am on battery power but also exists when plugged in (but I cannot confirm this, just something I have noticed).

There is an Android phone, iPhone, Nexus, Kindle and a Windows 7 laptop (on it now) in the house all able to connect fine via WiFi to my home router. The problem exists even if I disable all above devices (I can check my router and see no devices are connected via wireless).I have used a WiFi Scanner to confirm there is no other network using the same channel. On the W8.1 Laptop I have tried to forget the network and reAdd it. I have also run ipconfig /renew but nothing is able to get me back.I noticed that in available Network connections when I reboot the Laptop I sometimes see (listed along with my Wifi) a connection called 'Hidden Network' but I don't know what that is.The W8.1 laptop is an Acer Aspire V7 (64bit)The router is a Sky Hub

Tried to connect my sister's computer and then my phone. They both paired "successfully" but with the computer it said that I was unable to install drivers and on my phone it said "paired but not connected". Another odd thing is it's showing the computer as a desktop, but it's a laptop the same model as mine but her's is still windows vista.

I updated to Win 7 with a full/clean install so is there a driver that I should re-install or update?

A:Unable to connect to bluetooth devices

Depending on make and model of some mobile phones, phone manufacturer may not have or will not update the driver for those types of phones for windows 7. They want you to buy a new phone...same thing happened when vista rolled out and a lot of printers wouldn't work with the OS. You can call you mobile service provider and ask them about the compatibility issue.

OK, have a strange one, that I am hoping someone has seen before and can give me some advice.

Have a small network with a Cisco router coming from a TWC modem. A couple of switches and Wireless access points off of the router.

Problem just started on Friday, worked fine for over a year before.

Any IOS (iphone, Ipad, etc.) can connect to any of the WAPs, but nothing else (desktops, laptops, android phones, printers, etc.) can connect.
They say they connect to the network, but there is no internet access.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.. Chris

A:Only IOS Devices can connect to our wireless network

They say they connect to the networkClick to expand...

Please be more specific. They can successfully ping the router? Ping each other? Display the router's status or configuration pages?

These connections w/o internet access are both Wi-Fi and ethernet?
