Hi,
1. I cannot find a solution for a problem accessing Microsoft forums websites from Windows 10 - IE11 and Edge browsers:
in EDGE - Hmm, we can't reach this page.   IE11 this page can't be displayed.
For about a year it worked at least from Edge. Now both cannot access Microsoft forums. All the other sites are accessible.
I am using a corporate proxy. The same sites are accessible from Windows 7 with IE11.
First I blamed our IE GPO with multiple settings. So for a test I placed my machine in Blocked OU (no IE GPO, proxy is set from different GPO).
Everything what I tried didn't help. The question: why just Microsoft forums (no other sites) are not accessible.
Did couple of tests from Windows 7 IE11 machines. The same Microsoft forums are perfectly accessible (all GPOs are applied).
Suddenly, found that one corporate Web App does the same : "This  page can't be displayed". On other Windows 7 it does work.
I am out of ideas now... cannot blame anymore our GPO or proxy...
Any advice?
Thanks

1. I can access http://www.qmiles.com. On this page you need to enter member number and pin code.
2. Enter any member No and pin code and login
3. Box indicates 'you are about to view pages over a secure connection'. Click OK
4. Requested page does not display. Status bar first indicates 'Opening page https://secure.qmiles.com/FrontPage.jsp', then changes to 'Connecting to 213.130.112.202', and finally 'Done', and displays a page saying 'Page cannot be displayed'

I use windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 and Tiscali broadband. This same problem exists at 4 Tiscali broadband site I have checked in this area, but works OK at an AOL site, and also at 1 Tiscali broadband site a few miles away.
Can you suggest what I should do to be able to view the login page?
This is not a security or firewall problem, as the problem is present even when antivirus and firewall are turned off. As the site is accessible from another site, it does not appear to be a security problem. I can access the secure bank sites.

A:cannot reach a particular web page

I can get to first link but second IP comes as unavailable. Perhaps the page is generated uniquely based on input you provide when logged in and cookies you have on your machine. If you have a bad cookie or temp internet file the page cannot be generated. Try emptying temp internet files and deleting cookies.

Hello
This post is in regards to a website that I'm attempting to access. Within the email there is a highlighted link "Store" where I access a link to purchase my photos.. Clicking on this link Message reads Cannot reach this page, Refresh or Search. Clicking on Refresh nothing happens, click on Search brings up all the connecting websites but each one I try to open they all show the same. Cannot reach this page. This website is the only one that shows that. All others such as My Bank , Kaiser etc all open without incident. I do not understand this .I tried everything I even sent an email to this company about this issue The email could not be sent either , Up until today I have had no problems with this company/website. What happened, and Why? I have Windows 10 Microsoft Edge

A:Cannot Reach this page

1) Right click the link, click on Copy Link, and paste it in the address bar. Does it look like a valid website link?
2) If so, search for, and open, on your computer
iexplore.exe
and paste that link there and try it, does it work?

I've set Google as my search provider in Edge. If I open a new tab and type where it says: Search or enter web address, I get:

Hmm, we can?t reach this page.

Try this
?Make sure you?ve got the right URL: http://windows%207%20iso%20download
?Refresh the page
?Search for what you want

If I click on the last option, a search opens in Bing.

This is driving me crazy!

A:Edge: Hmm, we cant reach this page?

Does Google look ok as the default search provider in advanced options?

I just tried

Went to Google home page
brought up settings\advanced
clicked the drop down for search box and selected add new
it showed me google was available and I clicked add as default

are these the same steps you took?

That is when using Edge.  Similar type of messages happen when trying to get to the same page in Chrome and in Internet Explorer.  I changed the website name, giving a fake one instead of the real one.

My guess is that something is wrong at the website's end and not at my end since I can reach all other sites; just not one particular one.  Any good way to check on this?  Any other way of testing the vaidness or health of the website?

I have had this issue so much more often the past week with Edge than my entire time using Windows 10. Is anyone else seeing a increase in this? I cant tell if its a wifi problem (all my other devices using wifi are fine) or a problem caused by a recent update or what, but its so aggravating.

Any tricks or suggestions before I just ditch the Edge browser and rely only on Chrome?

A:Hmmm...cant reach this page

Well after installing Chrome I am also having internet problems. So it's not the Edge browser. Must be a driver. Can someone point me in the right direction to see if my drivers are up to date?

We have 2 wired pc, and a laptop. The PCs are Acer3100+, 1.8ghz, 1G ram, connected via ethernet to a wildblue modem. I have just installed a Belkin wireless router, model F5D 6231-4, that I bought on ebay. Both pcs will go online, a little slower than before, but my big concern is that when I run a cmd, ipconfig/all, my IP address dosen't match what they say. Belkin says it should be 192.168.1, and I get 70.41.xx.xxx, in this range. They said to configure router, but when I enter that page address, I get the notice of a network error. I don't know enough about this to know if this is a security issue or not! If I manually enter the numbers that Belkin should be , I get the correct address in an ipconfig, but I cannot get to the page, or get online. What have I done wrong!!!!

A:Can't reach Belkin configuration page..is this a problem???

the Belkin default address is 192.168.2.1

you're apparently wired like
modem---(wan)belkin-router(LAN)---yourPCs

the WAN side address will be set by your ISP, not belkin and might well be
70.41.xx.xxx, but none of your PCs will see this using IPCONFIG /ALL --
they will see the LAN side addresses. IPCONFIG will show the DHCP address
given to that specific machine. the LAN side address of the belkin should be
the default above, and thus your PC addresses will default to something like
192.168.2.x.

use one PC to access the router config using your browser http://192.168.2.1/
IF NECESSARY, you can change the default router address and the range of IP
addresses that will be assigned to your PCs.

you should absolutely change the admin password

Hello everyone.
I am currently experiencing an error everytime I use my Microsoft Edge. Whenever I try to go to a site, I always end up with this error. The weird thing is, this issue only happens on certain websites (such as Facebook and Yahoo currently) and sometimes with Google. It likes to disconnect me often and I really don't want to have to deal with this issue anymore.

My internet works fine as my laptop (which I'm currently on) and phone can connect to it without issue. I don't know why it doesn't work on my desktop especially since its internet is Ethernet.

I tested this on other browsers to see if it was only on Edge but it turns out that chrome and firefox experience the same issue with different sites as well. For all three, I haven't been able to go on Facebook and Yahoo, and sometimes Google.

I know the problem is from my end because clearly, the sites are up. Is there any way to solve this or has anyone else found a solution to this?

I'm running Windows 10.

I've tried the following:
- ipconfig / flush
- ipconfig / reset
- ipconfig / release
- ipconfig / renew
- clearing caches and browsing history
- a full scan for malware using malwarebytes and windows defender, already removed/quarantined all threats, did this multiple times to ensure there were none left
- reinstallation of chrome and firefox and a reset of edge
- ipv4 - changing preferred and alternate dns address to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4 respectively
- checked to see if a proxy was ... Read more

Hi. Welcome to TSF.

You mentioned threats were found by Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. Were they actually malware or just PUPs? A broken Internet connection is one of the common after-effects of a malware infection, and post-infection repairs need to be done, assuming all of the infections have been cleared. I advice seeking a clean bill of health from the virus removal section, and after they declare your system free from infections, come back here and we will advice further if the problem isn't cured.

I hope somebody has a cheap solution for me. I have a Canon Pixma MP530 printer - excellent machine. But it has no network support or slot for a card. Now it has to move 10meters away from the PC, so the USB connection is beyond limits.
Is there a way I can get around this without spending a lot of money?
Any suggestions much appreciated.

A USB repeater should work for you if you can run a physical line to the printer. It looks and works as shown on the following page, http://www.usbgear.com/USB_Repeater_Cable/

I'm using wireless on my laptop. My desktop computer which is upstairs uses the same internet but it's connected to the modem, it can load the site as usual, yet I get this error when I try to load it from this laptop: Error 118 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT). When I ping the website I get 100% loss from the packets sent along with "general failure". I've tried different browsers, checked my firewall, turned off antivirus etc but still can't go on to the site like I used to. I'm having trouble very similar to the guy who started this thread:

http://forums.techguy.org/showthread.php?t=220791

I would just follow the advice given in that one, except I saw that some of the advice was based upon the specifics of his problem. So I think maybe I should post some of the same info he did and see what everyone has to say. In the next couple of posts I will put the information he was asked to post.

In addition to not being able to connect to symantec.com, I'm having some other problems as well. I have gone for quite some time without updating my virus definitions, because it just wouldn't work. Recently I found a way to get new virus definitions (in Norton AV) via a server at my college. Once I did and ran an scan, Norton found 1133 instances of viruses on my machine. As soon as I saw some of the names that came up, I headed for Symantec.com to download any fixes they might have had. That's when I noticed the connection problem. Additionally, if I leave my computer sitting for a while (30 minutes or so) when I come back nothing works. I have what appears to be a normal desktop sitting there, but when I click the start menu I discover it's [empty]. None of my quicklaunch buttons work either. I suspect this might be the effects of a different virus than the one that's blocking me from connecting to symantec.com. So the gist is: I'm going to need help in the process of cleaning all these buggers of my computer, so this thr... Read more

Hello friends at TSG,

I can't reach the website: http://www.allaboutjazz.com

My browsers just time out ( IE8 & Firefox 3.6.8 ). The only way I have found to fix this problem is to use custom network settings with Selective Ack disabled. There is no blocking in place that I'm aware of (browser, firewall, etc.) Tracert is successful. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hello. Recently, my Windows 8 has been working fine, but when I woke up this morning, I was not able to access the Internet. It has been int he same spot for the last few days and Internet was perfect, but this morning, it would not connect to any. Basically, it won't even list any. I know I'm not too far away and I'm sure it's still working because:

1) My father and sister are using it.

2) I've gone to two different houses with different internet, nothing changed.
I've been trying to fix it since 7 this morning and I feel like I'm going to just burst into tears of frustration. My audio is also not working, but I care more of getting the Internet working. And my computer will not allow me to turn on Windows Security Center.
I hope someone can fix this, and if they do, I will be seriously grateful. Thanks much, sincerely, Heather.

Let's see if there are any remnants left over messing with your HOSTS file or other settings. Some types of malware will disable MBAM and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it.Before saving any of your security programs, rename them first. For example, before you save Malwarebytes', rename it to something like MBblah.exe and then click on Save and save it to your desktop. Same thing after you install it. Before running it, rename the main executable file first

Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.

If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. Then double-click on it to run..Another work around is by not using the mouse to install it, Just use the arrow keys, tab, and enter keys. ~ Courtesy of boopmePlease download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. For the last 4 or 5 days I've not been able to connect to several sites including: Microsoft.com, windows update (and several other MS related sites,) iwon.com and connections to a number of sites have slowed to a crawl.

This is occurring on two computers
1. XP Pro SP2
2. 2k Pro SP4

I have a third computer running 2000 Server with no problems connecting to any site.

The XP SP2 upgrade was over a month ago and I've had no problems related to that other than my computer slowing down a bit.

What really throws me is this occurring on two different computers using different O/S's. I've checked the IE security settings tab and the advanced tab on all three machines (they are all set to default)

Note: I've been running MS Antispyware on these two machines for several weeks with no problems. I also run Spybot on the 2k machine.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Problem begins here - i can ping from PC to laptop and receive response, connect to it and see shared folders/printers. But when i try to ping from laptop to PC, all i get is - Request timed out. Any other connections is impossible from laptop to PC impossible also. Although in Connection Status window, i can see how my PC receive pinging's packets. Both computers firewalls are off.

For some reason, I am unable to reach Ann Coulter - Official Home Page on my computer. It's been several weeks since I was last able to visit the site. The problem happens in every browser I have, including recent or current versions of Firefox, IE, Opera and Chrome. I can reach any other website I try to get to just fine. I never used to have any trouble reaching that website until about a month ago. No one else uses this computer and I live alone.

It appears that I've blocked that one site but I'm darned if I can figure out how.

Here's what I've tried so far:
1. Run Avast Free Antivirus with the latest version of the program and definitions. Results: no threats found with either the quick scan or the full scan.

Since yesterday, I have been unable to reach IMDb using either Firefox 2.0.0.14 or IE 7. I am also unable to reach Bleeping Computer. I am able to reach IMDb via their numeric IP address and am also able to go to the site using its DNS on my cell phone's browser. Bleeping Computer cannot be reached from either the computer or phone.

I checked my Hosts file and neither site is listed there.

My ISP is XO/Concentric dialup.

Thank you.

Have you tried them today? Both are working....

For the record, last night I could not reach Google for almost 10 minutes....

Howdy! For quite awhile now, I haven't been able to reach any sourceforge pages - and there are many. There doesn't appear to be a problem at their site, at least nothing shows up through a search - Googling only turns up user problems with settings etc.. My WinME, while hateful and all the rest, has never shown a problem accessing a website - just any sourceforge product page. It's the same story with our other WinXP PC as well. What a mystery! Firefox is my browser, I modified settings to "Autodetect proxy settings" after a forum recommendation, but no joy. If this is a firewall issue, it's odd that this is the only group of sites that I can't reach. Any suggestions for browser settings or info about sourceforge?

Hey guys, I have a bad case of the Blue screen of death. At first I was only receiving the registry error(0x00000051) when I attempted to boot safe mode. I eventually fixed that using a program called safekeyrepair or something like that. But now I get the bsod when trying to enter safe mode or normal windows. So I decided screw it I'll try to use the directory recovery mode and just repair or reinstall. But that mode produces the same bsod. So then I tried using my windows xp cd from another computer and when that loads it says it can't find a hard drive, which is bs because I've run a hdd diagnostics program and it spent an hour scanning a hard drive I'm sure of it. The error I received from the diagnostics scan was Error code 0000: Read verification failed. That's about all I can think of, can anyone help?! Thanks for looking!

A:BSOD can't reach windows at all

Sounds like a failure of the file system or the drive itself, IMO.

The Read Verification Failed...pretty much says the drive cannot be read by the diagnostic.

Hey guys, how are ya?
I have searched the site and the web but I can't seem to find a solution that matches mine
I did try 'tracert' in cmd and there doesn't seem to be a problem of getting an ip address to the site I'm trying to reach to.
I also went to the site from another computer and it works...
Is there any way?
I heard something about proxies but do not know a thing about it =)

I recently got a new job and therefor my ISP changed from Cybercity to Fullrate (this is in Denmark).

With cybercity i just took my LAN cable from the non-wireless router, also known as ZyXEL Prestige 2602R-61 that the ISP provided and everything worked.

Now I have fullrate - it is exactly the same router (ZyXEL Prestige 2602R-61) - but when i plug in the WRT54GC i cannot acces the internet.

i researched a little and found a guide on their forum saying that:
"If you wish to connect your own wireless router together with the ZyXEL standard router, then there are multiple ways to do this.
The easiest way to do this is to configure your wireless router as an "access point"

1.
Connect a cable from your computer to your wireless router.

2.
Log into your wireless router (see the manual for your model for more information on this), and set its LAN IP-address to 192.168.1.2."
this i did and now i can no longer reach the wrt54gc ... not on 192.168.1.2 or the good old 192.168.1.1

i tried resetting, but it seem like it died or something ... i need to reach it somehow ... what do i do?

EDIT: Still dont understand what happened, but all of a sudden - after 2 and a half hour ... it chose to show itself again ...

A:Linksys WRT54GC out of reach

If all you did was change the LAN address of the secondary router you have two Dhcp servers running on your network and you will have, at best, random problems. Here's the full nine yards.

JohnWill's procedure for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

I called charter to see if they could help me out and they had me do all this things and they checked my modem connection and everything and said everything was fine. When i tried to ping myself it came back with no reply. When i try to renew my ip address it tells me it cannot be completed. The charter people mentioned it might be my network card that is unable to connect to my modem, but i just dont know anymore. I use a windows xp.

So recently my external harddrive was dropped and died. I had Steam installed on it, but since it's dead, I wanted to reinstall in onto my normal drive. Well, when I went to try, it gave me an error because it couldn't find it in H drive. And I can't uninstall it, because the add and remove programs wizard gives me an error because it can't locate it. What do I do?

A:Solved: Uninstalling from something I can't reach.

Sounds like you have no option except to manually delete any folders/files associated with the program from your C:\ drive (there shouldn't be much if the prog was installed on the external drive) and edit the registry. Tricky business if you are not experienced with such things.

If you should be tempteted to do so, be very sure to do a backup of your registry before doing anything. You can learn about backing up the registry here.

Good Luck... Raybro

Hello guys.

I've recently ordered the Zalman FS-C77 Fatal1ty CPU Cooler for my motherboard (check specs, I do not remember the name ). It's supported with the 1156, I have the i5 2400k, I've heard CPU Coolers with the 1156 support, also fits in the 1155. In the box, follows a little extra box for the Clip Supporter for socket 1156/775. It showed how I could install the Clip for my type of socket. No problems there.
It did only show how I install the clip, not how I install the "rest", as in the CPU Cooler. So I just thought, as this little extra tutorial would work for 1156/755, I'd just continue on the actual manual where it explains how to install for 775. Why? Because the extra tutorial show for 1156 (mine), and for 775 (is also on the main manual). Can you follow?
So I continued on the main manual, and it said I should put the S-grips on the Cooler. Cool, no problem. I should also put "bolts", which are screws, down in the grips. So we're having two grips, and two screws in the grip holes - on the cooler. I said I should screw the screws (bolts) in the Clip Support, as I installed earlier.

The problem is that the Bolts could not reach the Clip Support. I attached some pictures of the manuals.

I have been fighting to get my daughter's laptop running ALL day! I couldn't get AVG to download the latest updates, then after reading about deleting 7.5 and reinstalling 7.0 and then uninstallling 7.0 and reinstalling 7.5 it worked for others. So after than didn't work, I downloaded avast and ran that. It came up with a file win32.ctx that was a worm. I had to move it to the chest. I finally got AVG to run correctly after fiddling with it for HOURS. I still can't get it to download the latest update, but now that could be because I have lost internet access on that computer.

Whenever I try to open a page with Mozilla Firefox it opens a "you have chosen to open" page with this same file name "redir.dll". I have clicked "ok" and I have clicked "cancel". It still will not let me on the internet. I'm glad my other computer still has access the internet. I even tried to open an Internet Explorer page, but it won't let me connect either. The address bar has this address: http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&pver=6&ar=msnhome.

First, what is this "redir.dll" file and how can I get the Mozilla to reach the internet?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

However, when I try to reach it today, I am unable to do so, and instead a capital 'H' appears in the pane where the forum ought to appear.

Um, yeah, just like the title says, I have Windows RC build 7100 installed and have the latest audio drivers, and it all works mighty fine, except when I want to lower the volume, the volume bar reaches 0%, yet sounds still come out. At late nights looking at videos or racing on simulators with formula 1 cars can be quite annoying to others, since even at 0%, the sound can be a little loud. It's not like it doesn't lower or anything, when the bar says it's at 30% it is significantly higher than 0%, and same goes for 50% and 100%, which means the sound actually graduates, just that when it hits 0%, it doesn't go away, and since I use a keyboard to control the sound step, it usually steps by 2% each time. So it's not a case of just saying "Just press mute" because with Vista, I had exactly the same rig and in those late nights the 1% volume worked perfect (I could hear, and my brother and parents wouldn't be bothered). With Windows 7, it feels like the potentiometer got stuck somehow... heheh i know sound cards don't have potes per se, but you get my point... How in the heck would I go about solving this?
Thanks in advance
Aphis

This is a driver issue. If you use the Windows volume control directly in SysTray, do you have the same result? If, yes, likely the audio driver. If only with the keyboard, the keyboard driver.

My antique keyboard presents a similar problem.

My Prescott 2.8E is currently overclocked to 3.4ghz with a FSB of 243. The CPU voltage on the Abit IS7 is 1.6625 V. The DDR voltage is 2.6V on my 2x512mb PC3200 setup. (1x512mb is a no-name Legacy brand and the other 1x512mb is a Mushkin value brand).

Through the BIOS, the 2x512mb DDR400 is running at 2.5-3-3-7 with a 5:4 ratio speed of 194.7mhz (194.7mhz x 2 = 389.4mhz effective).

I've tried to reach a stable 3.5ghz (FSB=250mhz) but running 3Dmark05 causes WinXP to BSOD. I've tried increasing the CPU voltage to 1.7125 V but it's doesn't help. I've tried loosening the memory timings to 3-3-3-8 but oddly, this caused a failure of WinXP to load (whereas booting the system with 2.5-3-3-7 at least got me to a stable Desktop).

What do you think is holding me back? BTW, the CPU is being watercooled by the Koolance CPU-200G and with AC in my room, the temp is around 46 to 47 C.

Will buying the Geil Ultra PC4000 DDR500 ram help me to reach a stable 3.5ghz or have I already reached the limit of my CPU overclock? I don't want to invest around $150 on the Geil PC4000 and find out that I still can't overclock to 3.5ghz.

All help/advice/feedback is greatly appreciated!

Hello. Here's my problem:

I got home from work one day and my wife tells me the computer "just stop working". Confused I ask her how? Unable to tell me, I decided to turn on the computer. Unfortunately, nothing happened. Since I believed the prob was the power supply, as the fan was not turning, I bought a new one and tried again. Still nothing happened. So I decided to try a new motherboard, Biostar M7VIG 400. Still no luck. So I tried a new CPU, AMD Athlon XP 2400+. Now the PC has power, the keyboard lights up, the DVD and DVD-r drives respond, and the CPU fan runs but it does not continue to POST. Everything stops there, the fan continues to run, an amber light on the case stays lit but nothing happens. I've tried disconnecting everything, hard drive (which is empty but that's another story), DV, DVD-r but no luck. And this is where I ask for your help. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi, I hope I have posted this in the right forum, apologies if I haven't. Here is the problem I'm having.

I bought a HP ENVY 17t just over a month ago. For the first week, 10 days, everything was fine, I have a good internet connection with TWC and the wireless modem/router I got was perfect.

Then I started to notice that I could not access some of my usual websites. I would type in the URL press enter then wait, and wait..... as opposed to just a day or so previously when I reached tte site instantly. Some of the sites would eventually, after a minute or so, some longer, appear, but then not completely, the graphics (pictures) were missing, links on the side of the pages were not there.

Initially I had thought that it was a problem with my internet connection so I called TWC. They checked at their end and then checked the modem/router, and pronounced that there was no problem with the internet connection. And sure enough, when I tried to download files from the office, I had no problems at all. I could access the servers and download large files without a problem, as fast as I did before the problem started.

I then called TP-Link. My Modem router is a TP-Link Archer CR700. I thought that there might be some kind of intermittent problem. They too checked everything with the modem, had me run some tests, and while the modem worked perfectly, I still could not access an ever increasing number of websites.

Hello all! I have 4 Windows XP pc''s on a home route network. 3 of them run wireless on a Linksys router and 1 is hardwired to the router. One of the wireless pc''s will not access the internet. When it did work, it usually got a low signal, based on where it is in the house. When this issue started, I moved it to where the signal is excellent. I've reset the router and modem, turned the PC off and rebooted. Nothing helps.

When it fails to connect to a website (google, msn, yahoo, etc), it tells me to run the connection diagnostics. The Diagnostics report tells me to contact my ISP (locally owned cable co). I called them thi sevening and they told me that if 3 pc''s work fine, then it''s a problem on my pc, not the IP signal.

Currently the problem computer is connected to my network at 11mbps and excellent strength. Help????

My problem is similar to kathybrj's on 1/6. Running W98 on the problem desktop, an IBM Aptiva 4 yrs old. The symptoms are the same whether I use dial-up or go through the router / cable modem. That is, while I appear to be connected to the net, E-mail, browser nor AIM will work. I can ping the router but not the net. Also have access to the other computers on the network, share files, etc.

The problem is (unfortunately) of my own doing. While installing a new wireless network to accommodate a new wireless notebook, and hopefully include a remote desktop wirelessly to the network, I thought I had a conflict with Intel's Anypoint Home Network. I un-installed the software and when it re-booted, the wizard started re-installing because I had not removed the Intel card. I canceled the wizard in mid-stream and I am sure that is when my problems started.

I have replaced the winsock file from my recovery disk and removed and re-installed the TCP/IP entries on the Network Configuration window to no avail. What other files should I try to replace from the recovery disk? I'm 99% sure there is a missing or corrupted file(s) but if I am open to other possibilities. Tks Bob

Thanks to a prior post by dtugg which referred to this urlossible winsock2 corruption? See here: http://support.sunlitsurf.com/winsock2/winsock2_98.htm

I took the steps to reset the Winsock2 key on W98 and my problem went away. Thanks for a great forum! Now I can get back to setting up the network ... I may be back.

Friends,Yesterday I spent two hours on the phone with a dear friend who helped me to network both of my PC-compatible desktop computers.Things went well this morning. Each computer could see the other's drives. Jolly. ;-)Then I received a chance both to upgrade QuickTime Player and to install iTunes. Big mistake. In retrospect, I wonder whether the Windows firewall was turned off so that we could network these machines. I simply can't remember what we did. That leaves SOME chance that the computer was hacked and that the invitation to upgrade QuickTime and to get iTunes was from a hacker.Anyway, after the restart following those DLs and installations, the VISTA HOME PREMIUM machine could not connect to the LAN and thence to the Web. So, I am using the other desktop -- also a 64-bit machine but running x64 Windows XP Professional Special Edition -- to write this.Because the problem VISTA machine (an HP IQ505) is currently running Malwarebytes Full scan, after having had Spybot and Ad-Aware Full scans just done on it, I can not now recreate the exact messages I get when trying to bring up the firewall again. The gist of it is that the firewall has lost its settings, I am given the opportunity to bring it back manually, but that does not work either.Even using the HP Advisor | PC Dashboard | Security | !Critical | Firewall Protection (Enable Firewall hotlink) does not work; the window displaying that hotlink simply blips a bit periodically after I click on &qu...

I am using Windows 2000, and I have a number of ham radio programs that use the sound to demodulate digital data (e.g., RTTY). These worked perfectly for years, but then I was unwise and tried out additional programs, that I did not keep track of. I suddenly discovered that my old programs (MMTTY, Logger) no longer receive sound. The sound comes through the speakers, and the Windows mixer works to vary the intensity and mute the different channels, but the software does not see the sounds, and the software displays show no sound. This is true for all the programs that I used to use.

I expect that there is a key dll or other file that was changed, but I cannot determine which one.

I have looked at the running processes, and I think that I can account for every one, and these do not affect sound.

I would appreciate guidance in tracking down the problem.

Hi all, I got weird problem. One day both of my browser (IE7 and Firefox 2.011) can't reach internet. I am using winXP. Other computer connected to the same router works just fine.

I can't even go to my router login page with that computer (IE said address not valid while firefox displays some error that I don't understand). I can ping the router, I can ping other computer in network, I can share files to/from other computer, my network can see this computer and this computer can see other network just fine. I even can ping www[dot]yahoo[dot]com (sorry I am not allowed to post links yet, my first post) which proves nothing is really wrong and that it should see internet just fine. Try to change port in the router but same thing happen. Internet just crawl and sometime does not work at all.

I have run anti spyware and anti rootkit both say negative. I also run antivirus and it seems OK. Antivirus update seems run just fine. It just weird that it happen to both browser at the same time.

Any idea? Thanks in advance!

GPU (GeForce 8600M GS) - 66C

Unfortunately, yes. Laptops are frequently 62 to 69 degrees. See them every day in our shops. Some do run a degree or three higher with linux for some reason.

Hi,

I've got two machines on the network here that can't reach eachother.
One is an XP Pro machine, and the other is our W2K Exchange server, and they can't even ping eachother!
Both machines can ping everybody else, and everybody else can ping both machines. Everything is working fine on both machines except for going between the two.
I took the XP Pro and gave it a different, static ip address, but no luck.
Rebooting and doing the same did nothing also.
I moved the XP Pro onto a completely different switch, but no luck.
The names for eachother are resolving beautifully on both machins, but still nothing's happening between them.
Even machines from a different subnet can reach them with no problem.
Has anybody come across this before? Any ideas of what might be causing this?
I'm going to try uninstalling and reinstalling TCP/IP on the XP machine, but I don't have high hopes for it.

Any thoughts period would be welcome.

Thank ye's...

After reboot, I can connect to the Internet through EarthLink Total Access. But I can't get to my Start Page--Internet Explorer 6. A screen comes up saying, "The page cannot be displayed . . ." To get to IE6, I must go into Control Panel, double-click on Internet Options, click the Connections tab, click the Settings button, uncheck the proxy server boxes, and check "Automatically detect settings."

Whenever I reconnect to EarthLink, I find that "proxy" has been reset. A geek thinks that a virus or rootkit is causing this problem and suggests that I try running ComboFix.

I have printed out about 50 pages of instructions including "Preparation Guide . . ." and "How to use ComboFix."

Please advise! Should I start following some of these instructions?

A:Can't reach my browser IE6 after restart.

First, Download rkill.com to your desktop.Double-click on the rkill.com in order to automatically attempt to stop any processes associated with Rogue programs. Please be patient while the program looks for various malware programs and ends them. When it has finished, the black window will automatically close and you can continue with the next step. If you get a message that rkill is an infection, do not be concerned. This message is just a fake warning given by these Rogue programs when it terminates programs that may potentially remove it. If you run into these infections warnings that close Rkill, a trick is to leave the warning on the screen and then run Rkill again. By not closing the warning, this typically will allow you to bypass the malware trying to protect itself so that rkill can terminate these Rogue Programs. So, please try running Rkill until malware is no longer running. You will then be able to proceed with the rest of the instructions.Check your Proxy settings in Internet Explorer to make sure malware did not alter them. If so, that can affect your ability to browse or download tools required for disinfection: * Open Internet Explorer > click Tools > Internet Options > Connections tab. * Click the LAN Settings... button and uncheck Use a proxy server for your LAN or change the settings to the proxy you normally use if you previously reconfigured it. * Remove any unknown addresses from the Address box. 80 is the default Port so it does not have ... Hi there,

This has been my first PC build, which was a pretty daunting task for myself. I will list my specs below that SysInfo retrieved.

The title basically explains it, every now and again, the PC will not show the ASUS Bios logo. It will not get past this black screen stage until I hold in the power button to turn the PC off and then boot it back up again. My keyboard and mouse have LED's in them, so I know if the LED's light up, it will boot normally. If they don't light up, I know I'm going to have an issue.

Being a ASUS P8Z77V-Pro motherboard, red LED's light up one at a time to (assumingly) test each component for errors. Whenever the computer has decided to do it's weird not-reaching-POST thing, the DRAM_LED is lit solid red, and will not move on to any component no matter how long you wait. I don't know if I have faulty RAM, a faulty motherboard (which I'm quite frankly dreading, and I mean honestly dreading, I've got too much pressure on myself at the moment), or some issue.

I'm not an expert, but I'm fairly clued up on technical jargon. I do not believe I've made any mistakes whilst building this PC, but I hope someone can help me here.

Many Thanks,

I have placed his IP address in the excluded (allowed) sites in my firewall settings. I can't figure out what else may be preventing my connection. Any help?

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to setup a Print Server remotely - and the challenge that I am facing is that the Print Server is on a different sub-net (by default) than the main network.

The main network consists of the I.P. addresses: 192.168.174.0 to 192.168.174.254

The Print Server has a default I.P. address of: 192.168.0.10

Fortunately the remote location is using a Netgear SRXN3205 which supports Lan Multi-Homing.

I have added the address 192.168.0.1 to the router (as shown below) -

I have remote access to a Windows 7 computer, and I have tried adding a Static Route to it in order to reach the Print Server -

I have tried both of the following -

route add 192.168.0.10 mask 255.255.255.255 192.168.0.1

(above uses the Routers LAN Multi-Homing feature)

route add 192.168.0.10 mask 255.255.255.255 192.168.174.254

(above uses the Routers standard I.P. address)

** Can't reach the print server either through ping or a web browser with either of the above commands ***

If anybody has any suggestions on how I can reach the config page of the Print Server (TP-Link TL-PS110U) they will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

I have registered a domain name from company x like 2 years ago and have bought hosting from ipage yesterday. I have requested a transfer of registrar from x to ipage too. I am in Turkey by the way. The problem is, people in ipage customer support, a friend in Egypt can access my website, while nobody in Turkey can access it, with different ISPs

When I use openDns or google dns, I can open ipage without problem but when I use my ISP's dns, I can not open ipage too. My guess is, ipage is in my ISP's blacklist but that can be bypassed by DNS change.

What is it that causes ipage to be opened by DNS change but my own website only through a proxy ?
In what way an ISP or government block a domain other than DNS ?

The domain in question is : www.breezeofanatolia.com

I was called in to help a friend try and sort their PC out as they were/are having problems connecting to the internet. I'm able to communicate with the router (which confirms he is connected to the internet) however is unable to reach any websites (comes back with a blank screen - not even an error message) - I thought it may have something to do with Zlob file and smitfraud (located by spybot) and and after searching for HJT, was led here.

Can anyone shed some light on this, or indeed give me any advice on how to proceed - I've run HJT and include the report below.

My Disk Usage and CPU columns of the task manager randomly jump up to 99% or even sometimes 100% which is unresponsive. This seems to happen more often when I run programs such as a malware scanner or League of Legends. My FPS in League stays around 1 when I do try to play and I'm assuming this is a related issue. I'm currently reading through other threads with similar issues but I thought I'd post my own for better results. Would it help if I included a screen shot of the task manager window?

Hello and Thank you so much for reading my problem.

I am unable to login to my desktop computer. When the computer is turned on the boot screen shows and the green bar shows that says Microsoft. When it is time for the logon screen where I would choose a user it remains blank and I can see the cursor as well as move it but nothing happens.
I have tried numerous things after searching for the problem online and none have worked. The computer sounds fine and is running but nothing happens. I can't boot using any version of safe mode or normal mode. I can get into the Recovery(I think is what it is called area), where you can choose to repair recover etc. Restore points keep giving me an error saying there is not enough memory but I know already there is and none of the restore points work. Wish I was smarter at fixing this.

Thank you so much for any help!

Any ideas on how to solve this mystery would be very greatly appreciated.

A:Solved: Email does not reach recipient

It may have more to do with the recipient's setup than yours. Possibly something in your mail or your ISP is flagged as spam and being removed. Are the ISP's different among these 3 locations?

Ask the recipient to add your address to their email program's address book to see if you can prevent it from being filtered.

Hello,

After using Capture One Pro version 4 RAW image workflow software from Phase One for a few weeks with no problems (and version 3 for a couple of years before that), suddenly the application has reverted from the Pro version which I paid for to the less capable Standard version.

Between my description of events and screenshots, Phase One support has determined that the application cannot reach the company's activation server to verify the status of my license code. My user account on their site says I have 2 free upgrades and 2 activations remaining. In the app, it says I have zero and zero.

I've tried deactivating and reactivating the software, but I get the error: Capture One was unable to deactivate the software on the server. This happens whether I try to connect from home or from my studio.

I'm running Vista Home Premium SP1.

Phase One support suggested creating a new Windows user account and trying it from there, but that didn't work. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, and completely disabling my firewall (AVG 8).

The last from Phase One support (in Asia, who can reply no more than once a day ):

The activation procedure is using the following:

activate.phaseone.com that has IP address 68.195.194.106
Mac uses port 80 (http)
PC is also port 80 but uses also SOAP commands besides http
Also every machine needs to be able to ping itself on 128.0.0.1

That is all that is needed to run activation procedure as... Read more

A:App can't reach license activation server

I'd be surprised if machines can ping themselves on 128.0.0.1, since the loopback address is 127.0.0.1!

I wonder what other misconceptions they have?

BTW, that IP address for activation is in NJ, not Asia.

I think I'd connected directly to my broadband modem, disable any firewalls, and run the activation. If that doesn't do it, you're pretty much out of luck.

Hi,

My friend has her internet connection going into her office which is a separate building at the end of her garden. She has a wireless modem router there which works fine in the office, but she cannot access it in her house, which is not all that far from the office (not sure of distance, I am rubbish at estimating things like that, it's a standard garden length really).

So she needs a router that can provide more coverage. I had a quick look and saw a Netgear one with RangeMAX, but I don't know how much of this is marketing hype and whether it actually works in practice. If anyone could advise what is a good bit of kit and how far they can transmit.

Found some little aerials that you plug into the router on ebay, anyone know if these are any good or not?

Cheers!

Good day,

I have never used forums like this, but today's situation forced me.
There is some back story.

Recently I have bought a camera, I am shooting in RAW files which take up a lot of space. I have decided to find a backup solution to back up all my data together with the huge amount of data from the pictures I will take. I found crashplan. Automatically it wanted to backup my C disk (where the windows are) and D disk (where I store all of my university stuff, photos, etc). C drive in my case does not contain any important information to me, just the programs I use and windows. Knowing so, I tick off the C drive when backing up with crashplan and backed up only D. It took me about 10 days to back everything up. (a week ago approx). Since then It was running in the background.

Yesterday, before going to work i was using it, everything was smooth. Using Lightroom to retouch photos, browsing internet, usual stuff...

Today in the morning i switch the computer on. It took usual time to boost - less than 20 seconds. Went to the internet, checked my mobile service provider's website, shut the computer down for next 7 hours.

Opening it up again, trying to boost - it gets stuck on the windows flag screen. Takes more then 5 minutes - I hold the button and turn it off. Try to turn it on again - same thing, gets stuck on during the "flag screen". Researched it a bit, got advised to turn the computer on with a safe mode and restart it. Did that. Still got stuck. To use some features on the Nascar.com web site, you need to log in through https://secure.audience.nascar.com. Problem is, the site can't be reached or pinged. Increasing ping time generates nothing but timeout errors. Something in the computer is blocking it from reaching that web address, whether it's entered as a name or a numeric address. This problem happens with four different web browsers - IE8, Firefox 3, Chrome and Safari.

It's a Gateway laptop with Vista SP1. It happens with a LAN connection. WiFi and Ev-Do. The web address is available on one machine with an identical WiFi link but not with the Gateway laptop.

Here are some of the attempts to solve the problem that have failed:

Resetting TCP/IP stack.
Switching DNS server.
Removing Norton Internet Security 2008.
Shutting down Windows Defender.
Running the computer with no firewall.
Removing and reinstalling network adapters and reinstalling drivers.
Running Vista in safe mode with networking.
Removing all temporary files and history.
Adding the domain to the IE trusted sites list.

The secure.audience.nascar.com address and the nascar.com domain are not blocked in the Hosts list.

This error message is usually a sign of a poor internet connection.

What security software is installed?

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

The browser on my computer is being redirected to an ip address of 93.186.119.129 whenever I type in www.bing.com or www.google.com. I have added malwarebytes and it gives me a clean bill of health, but the problem persists.

I can browse to other sites ok, but I get the blocked Ip address info from Malware bytes. Llike www.msn.com, www.earthlink.net but it opens the sites . How do I stop the IP hijacking, other computers on my net work just fine.

I tried combo fix and have a log, but browsing still not working for Google or BING.

Hi guys, I tried to install tiny core linux to my Win 7 system, and I messed up booting, somehow. Now, all I get is ASUS startup screen and that's it. Can't get to Bios, can't boot, can't do nothing. I tried pulling out battery from motherboard, nothing happened. Can anyone please help me how to reset my bios? Also, I dont have a reset hole on the bottom of the laptop. Laptop is ASUS U52F

Decided to try Ubuntu Linux 6.06 (which is pretty cool BTW) after struggling a bit with 5.05. Unfortunately when 6.06 installed from Live CD, it did not create a boot loader to allow me back to my WXP. I have tried several recovery schemes including booting from a W98 floppy, but none successful (NTFS partition may have been corrupted.)

I can see /media/windows in file system in my file browser either from Live CD or normal 6.06 boot from hdd, but when I click on the folder, it is blank (i.e., no files or folders).

When I run
"sudo mount -t ntfs /dev/hda1 /media/windows" from shell within normal bootup, I get:

"mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda1,
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so"

If I click on 27.3GB Volume in "Computer" view from file browser, I get:

"Unable to mount the selected volume" and if I click on "show more details", it shows:

"error: device /dev/hada1 is not removeable
error: could not execute pmount"

I had backed up not long before the U install, but now cannot find my CD of the backup. Is there a way to reach the Windows partition from any combination of U Live CD, U 6.06 from normal boot, Windows boot floppy, Windows recover fdd or cd, or simply removing the hdd and plugging it into another windows computer?

I am prepared to remove the Windoze install from this computer and con... Read more

A:How to reach (corrupted?) WXP partition in linux?

It occurs to me later that booting with a W98 floppy would be fat32 and so may not be able to read NTFS. Is there a NTFS boot floppy or CD? Or am I just totally confused on this?

Good day,
I have never used forums like this, but today's situation forced me.
This time I waited for... Read more

In an effort to get rid of a persistent pop-up that showed whenever I started my PC, I purchased PC Tools Spyware Doctor. Immediately, I could no longer browse the Web. When I uninstalled Spyware Doctor, the problem went away. Tried reaching their tech support, but those web pages just loop through a series of FAQs and similar pre-formatted questions. It has no option to submit a new topic. Anyone know how I can reach these people to report their software breaks my computer?

A:Can't reach real person at PC Tools

I'm not a big fan of PC Tools, so I suggest you download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and run a full scan in safe mode.
