I have recently uninstalled AOL 9.0 Optimized SE and installed AOL 9.0 Optimized VR. Now the trouble is that it can't find my modem. I do not have any of my access numbers to the internet either.

The problem is using america offline in the first place. You would think by now people would know NOT to use that inferior crapware. Get rid of it and you will be fine.

Hello allCan the following solution be optimized somehow or am I stock with this very slow working array formula?I have a sheet with the following data: A B C
1 111 2011 1
2 111 2012 1
3 111 2013 2
4 222 2015 1
5 222 2011 1
6 333 2014 1
7 333 2011 2
8 333 2012 3
9 444 2015 1
10 444 2012 1The first column is ID numbers, the second column is a year, the third column is a priority number, where 1 is first priority and so on. What I need is a solution that returns either the year 2011 or the year 2012, based on which priority number they have. 2011 is also first priority, so if 2011 and 2012 for a given ID number has the same priority, then 2011 has to be returned, but if 2012 has the highest priority, then that has to be returned. 2011 and 2012 will always be in the data set for all ID numbers, so no worries there.I then have those ID numbers (one of each ID number) in a separate list in the same sheet and in the column next to it, I have the following array formula to get the year I need for that particular ID number:{=INDEX(B:B;
IFERROR(MATCH(1;(I1=A:A)*(1=C:C)*(2011=B:B);0);
IFERROR(MATCH(1;(I1=A:A)*(2=C:C)*(2011=B:B);0);
IFERROR(MATCH(1;(I1=A:A)*(3=C:C)*(2011=B:B);0);
IFERROR(MATCH(1;(I1=A:A)*(1=C:C)*(2012=B:B);0);
IFERROR(MATCH(1;(I1=A:A)*(2=C:C)*(2012=B:B);0);
MATCH(1;(I1=A:A)*(3=C:C)*(2012=B:B);0)
))))))}It surely does what I want, but it is very very slow!Any suggestions on how to make this more efficient or maybe another approach? Thanks a lot in advance/Jacob

A:Can this approach be optimized?

Without even trying to understand what your doing, change your formula so you DO NOT use the entire columns.Do you really need to search all 1,048,576 rows?Just use the range of data required. MIKEhttp://www.skeptic.com/message edited by mmcconaghy

When I installed Crysis demo, I knew it wasnt going to run great. But when I clicked on optimized settings, it put everything in medium quality. It was slooow. Then I got Medieval War II and clicked on optimized settings and it set everything to high which makes the game very laggy. It seems like no matter what the game is, whenever the game optimizes itself, it always thinks that my computer can do better than it actually does.

My question is this. Is there something I have to change in the setting of my computer or do all games do that? Maybe graphics card settings? I know my computer is not a gamer rig but it can barely play RTS games even though I have recommended system requirements for all of them.

My Specs:

Pentium D 3.4 Ghz
2 GB Ram
250 GB HDD
ATI Radeon 2400 Pro PCIe with 256GB

Thanks

A:Optimized settings

Dang, if that system can't play games then very few can. You have the hardware, have you checked for updated drivers for the video card? That could help, but I can't imagine it would fix that extreme of a problem.
Have you checked to see if anything else was using the CPU while you are trying to play the game? Are you playing local or over the network? Sorry .... more questions that answers.

Hi,
This is not for Gaming but for Music creation but the same theme applies.

Is there any way to either set up Windows (7 in my case) so that I can instantly have the current drive, running only limited applications?
If I swap USER accounts I will lose administrative and personalised settings.
At the moment I open task manager and manually end processes each time I need to free up resources which is a pain.
If I could set up a preconfigured environment to run at the click of a mouse that would be great!!
Even better would be if, when I launch my Music Workstation it automatically launches this environment.

Any ideas?

Mike

A:Optimized 'template' ?

You can go to Start > Run > Type "Services.msc" and right-click properties on the services you want to halt. Under "Startup Type" change it from Automatic to Manual.
What this will do is not load that service until it is needed.
For example if you set Print Spooler to Manual the only time that service will start is when you open up a Word document and go to print. However once the service has started you'll need to stop it again.

There are programs like Tuneup Utilities which you can select services to be disabled and tuneup will automatically enable the service when needed and then disable it again.
This program is the safe option as it wont allow you to stop critical system services.
Tuneup also has the feature to add programs to the startup list on a Delayed Start to that your system has time to load first, then loads your music program.

I have searched a lot in the internet and i found these software were the most well-known software to optimized PC.
Tuneup Utilities
Window 7 Manager
Enhance my seven
Tweak 7
Glary Utilities free/pro

However i have tried tuneup but i see that sometimes it slow down my computer. So i don't know which soft is should used.
Any one have experienced about this problem? Can you give me the best software. Thanks a lot
My system info: Asus K56CM, Ram : 4gb, CPU i5 3317U, 1.7Ghz. Win 7 pro 64bit :

A:Which of these optimized software is the best ?

Welcome to the Seven Forums

Windows 7 does not need any optimizing software. You will do more harm than good with any of them, then you will be back here asking questions why your computer is not working right.
Do not use any of them.

I'm a very avid gamer and I've been trying how to configure my system solely for gaming and I was looking for some help with that such as which services I can stop/disable (so they don't run on startup) and etc. I'm not sure exactly what information I'll need to provide for someone to help me with this so yeah.

A:Optimized for gaming

It all depends on whether the gaming includes internet usage or not?

Plus you can create a batch file to stop the services before running the game and another one to start the services when you have finished with the game...this works out pretty well.

DELL Inspirion 531s Windows Vista Home Premium SP #2

Recentlly uploaded AOL 9.0 SE on Vista, and everything seemed to go fine, but whenever I sign off, I keep getting a message saying do not turn off machine its installing updates. Okay, i've seen this message when I was using XP periodocally, but the process went through quickly and no problems. But with Vista, it seems to be everytime I sign off I'm getting this updating message, and it literally takes about an hour for the update to go through. I've uninstalled, and re-installed the software, but when I sign off its the same problem all over again. Being a long time AOL customer this is very strange, so my question is should I be using a higher Version of AOL with Vista?

A:Problems with AOL 9.0 SE Optimized on Vista

The problem you are having may not be an actual problem or even with your AOHELL software. I have to say this or else I could not go on, GET RID OF AOHELL PLEASE.

Ok now we can move on

Log into your computer as administrator and run windows updates. On Vista it can be found under START > All Programs > Windows Update. Do not worry how long it will take as this is relative to each computer and what it needs. Just install the important/crital updates leaving the optional ones alone for now. Wait until Windows downloads and installs all of them and you may have to restart your computer once or twice.

BTW: Uninstall that software completely from your system. Then create a restore point if you dare to install it again Here are a couple of places for reference.

If HP does not provide XP drivers (have you looked?) for that machine the probability that you can find adequate ones somewhere is low. Rather than buying XP and going through all the hassles of (maybe) finding drivers you would be better off upgrading the machine if it is underpowered and stick with Windows 7. What Windows 7 version do you have? How much memory?

What does "Load Optimized Defaults" do in BIOS? I am curious, I have a problem and this might be one of my options.

Thanks

It loads the default settings...which are supposed to provide the best chance of booting.But...if the system was set up via a network install, then it may make the boot order one that produces an error...as the system tries to boot from a network connection, rather than the hard drive or optical drive.I would suggest to always check what the boot options are...after using/loading the optimized defaults. If the first option is not the hard drive, then I would change it (assuming that I have already installed Windows on a hard drive).More InfoLouis

How can I revert back to IE8 that is NOT optimized for msn and bing? I don't use either, I use google. Also, this IE8 is giving my weird issues, for example: when trying to type a post on a forum or on facebook it limits the number of characters I can type in the text field. Once I reach a certain number of lines it just won't display beyond it and I cannot type anymore. I know it's this computer (if not the version of IE8 on this computer) because I don't have that problem on my laptop.

I'd like to try installing the previous un-optimized version of IE8, unless anyone has any other suggestions?

Hi,
I have been using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit for an year now, and recently noticed that the "Currently Allocated" virtual memoy is 3063 Mb, while the "Recommended" VM is 4594 Mb. I have 3 Gb physical memory installed. Even after I check the "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" option, the VM remains 3063 Mb. What should be the optimal VM setting in Win'7 for me to derive the best performance from my PC ? Please advise.

A:Virtual Memory - optimized settings

Quote:
How Big Should I Make the Paging File?

Perhaps one of the most commonly asked questions related to virtual memory is, how big should I make the paging file? There’s no end of ridiculous advice out on the web and in the newsstand magazines that cover Windows, and even Microsoft has published misleading recommendations. Almost all the suggestions are based on multiplying RAM size by some factor, with common values being 1.2, 1.5 and 2. Now that you understand the role that the paging file plays in defining a system’s commit limit and how processes contribute to the commit charge, you’re well positioned to see how useless such formulas truly are.

Since the commit limit sets an upper bound on how much private and pagefile-backed virtual memory can be allocated concurrently by running processes, the only way to reasonably size the paging file is to know the maximum total commit charge for the programs you like to have running at the same time. If the commit limit is smaller than that number, your programs won’t be able to allocate the virtual memory they want and will fail to run properly.

So how do you know how much commit charge your workloads require? You might have noticed in the screenshots that Windows tracks that number and Process Explorer shows it: Peak Commit Charge. To optimally size your paging file you should start all the applications you run at the same time, load typical data sets, and then note the commit charge peak (or... Read more

Perhaps as part of the process of installing the new browser, IE8 was set to the current security or privacy settings and they are too high. I would think it would work with the defaults on the normal IE8 so first try to reset IE (tools/internet options/advanced/reset.) If that doesn't fix it, try lowering the security level or accepting more cookies under privacy. Perhaps the "helpful insrtuctions" will provide a clue as to how to change them.

Windows Explorer seems to automatically choose the display settings based on the content. When I open a folder that mostly contains mp3 files for example, the Columns display:
Name

Title

Album
How can this "template" be changed to always include additional columns, such as "Duration"?

Is it possible to edit the Optimized Folder Templates to add or remove columns?

I am very interested to know if anybody knows the answer to this. Thanks

A:Optimized folder templates - editing

Yes, Antonimo, it is easy to add new columns or remove the ones that are already there. You right-click on any column header, choose "More" and then you have a near infinite list of possible columns. You can move them up or down the list, thus changing which column is shown first and so on.

Once you have achieved the set-up you want, you can go to Folder Options -> View and apply the chosen set-up to all folders of the same type. To choose the type, you click on the folder icon, then Properties -> Customize, but that you should do prior to choosing columns.

Hope that helps.

hello forum,

all of a sudden my external HDD (USB) is no longer performance optimized.
usually the properties window of the device has a tab "policies" where you can choose between "quick removal" and "better performance".

after recent system changes (BIOS update, windows updates, formatting the external HDD) i observed very poor performance.
i then noticed the following:
1) the device no longer shows up in systray / notification area for safe removal
2) the properties dialog no longer has the policies tab!

so it looks like the operating system has permanently activated the "quick removal" (write caching disabled) now and won't allow me to change it to "better performance" (write caching enabled, systray icon for safe removal).
but why?
and how to change it back?

a) windows 7 is still showing proper behaviour for other removalbe devices (e.g. USB thumbs driver). it seems to be specific to my external HDD.

b) the external HDD is formatted with NTFS.

c) this is a dual boot system (win7 x64, win xp x86). my external HDD doesn't show those symptoms when booting into windows xp. so i can rule out the bios update as root cause. it seems to be specific to win7.

d) my system has 12 GB of RAM. so the full memory is visible to win7 x64, but only 2.5 GB is visible to winxp x86.

A:Optimized HD unit DST control Error

Hi, Is the error code actually:    RU7Q3F-72683G-MFPV61-61T503 If so, it does confirm a failure of the optimized disk self test which basically means that some areas of the HDD occupied by the operating system are un-readable - this may well mean that the drive is failing and will need to be replaced. If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here. If you live in the US, contact HP Here. If you are in another part of the world, start Here. If you are out of warranty and as long as the previous installation of Windows 10 had activated Ok after the upgrade from 8.1, you can try performing a clean installation as detailed in the guide on the following link.  Note: At the activation screen, select 'I don't have a Product key' - Windows will activate automatically once the installation has completed. http://www.howtogeek.com/224342/how-to-clean-install-windows-10/ If you still get the same error after a clean install, then the HDD will need to be replaced. Regards, DP-K

I play Dayz a lot. Amazing game, but terrible performance. I sometimes have to deal with ten frames per second. I rarely ever get over thirty frames. I have added in startup parameters in Dayz Commander to help the game perform better, I have tweaked my settings and tried several things to boost FPS.
Is there anyone else that falls victim to this as well? Can someone give me some suggestions on how to increase my performance? And I am already planning on getting an EVGA Gtx 680 2gb for the standalone, but I don't know how much of a performance boost that will be on the mod as it is.
Also, I run Core Temp and TechPowerUp GPU-Z constantly and I monitor the loads and temps on my second monitor. I notice that I rarely ever get over a forty percent GPU load. When I enter big cities with lots of action going on my GPU load goes straight to zero and that's when I get the worst FPS. My processor hits a little over fifty percent load but it varies between cores. It doesn't seem like I am using the most out of my hardware. This is frustrating. I think Dayz has to be the worst optimized game I have ever played. I can play newer better graphics games maxed out and get over sixty frames.

I purchased my laptop computer about 1 1/2 years ago. A few months ago it was running slow so I upgraded the internet explorer (the version that is optimized for Bing and MSN) and now I keep getting these messages that IE is not responding. I talked to Toshiba and the guy said it might be a virus, but since my 1 year warranty had expired, he could only help me if I agreed to a \$35 fee. That was out. So I did a system restore with the disks from Toshiba to restore my computer to the out of the box condition. I am still getting these messages and it is getting frustrating, because whenever I try to read my emails in either gmail or aol, it won't load and when I click on it again I get an error message that IE (not responding) I have also noticed that I get a message about a tab being recovered. I don't have a clue as to what is going on and I really need help. I have anti-virus software and I always update the windows and the Norton 360 software. I am getting somewhat frustrated since I have online businesses that I need to check on (some daily), but it seems as though I am spending half my day trying to get the pages to load and refreshing pages and all that. I am on skype so if this is something that needs a step by step instruction, please send me a note and give me a good time to connect with you on skype. My skype name is in my profile. Thanks for your time....

Hi  My laptop does not fail but it keeps on hangging up. So i ran diagnostics test and it failed the Hard drive optimize DST check. Does this mean that my hard drive is not working properly and i need to replace it or this is  an operating system problem.  Regards

A:Hard Drive Optimized DST test failure

That means the hard drive needs replacement. Is the laptop still in warranty?

A:Hard Drive Optimized failed DST Check

Jenna, welcome to the forum. I believe that the hard drive has failed.  Here is the Troubleshooting section for the hard drive.  I suggest following the guide on testing it.  If it shows that it has failed, your only option is to replace it.  Here is a guide to help you replace it.  You should assure that the new hard drive is the same size or larger than the existing one. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

As the title says, windows 8.1 reserved partition will not optimize on SSD. Even if you try to run it manually. Have the latest firmware update for the SSD and Trim in enabled. Has anybody else come across this. Have googled it and there's no resolution that I could find. Image attached.

A:System reserved partition windows 8.1 ssd not optimized

There's absolutely no reason to optimize that part.

So after a reformat of my computer, anytime I shut the computer off and cut off electrical power from either the PSU or the UPS my system will not load directly to windows, BIOS will come up saying that it has detected changes and offers to load optimized results or enter BIOS, going into BIOS I am able to see that all my custom settings have been overriden and I have to start all over.

I am thinking this is electrical, but find it strange that it happened after I reformatted and cleaned my computer.

The motherboard is an F2A85X-UP4

A:Motherboard trying to load optimized results occasionally

It likely that your CMOS battery (button cell) on your motherboard needs replacing. It's what maintains the BIOS settings when the PC is off.

Hi everyone

I'm experiencing several problems with an optimized win7 installation, though that i've been working on this through months.

I've already solved most of them, but there are some that i can't solve, and the system itself doesn't help (The error messages don't match with the actual causes, the troubleshooter doesn't work, etc)

My main problem now is starting some services, such as Windows Event Log and WLAN autoconfig.

All their dependencies are satisfied, all the associated files and dll's are working and registered, but i still get the same message error:
It doesn't specify what is the path that it can't find, but all paths associated to that service on the registry are working, i've checked it many times.

I can't update the system again, but the system was updated in october, and all updates were ok, there were no problems.

I have a single user, and there are no permission issues anymore, all the system and service profiles are also functional, and all drivers are updated and working.

I've also cleaned the registry and scanned for issues, none have been found.

The only other problem i have now is with the Windows Update system, once CBS Manifest is corrupted, and i just can't find a way to correct it (all given solutions on internet fail with me, nothing can correct this, but all files associated to CBS Manifest are ok, i don't know why it says it's corrupted)

So, do anyone know what can i do?

Here are some other screenshots to help:

I have an Intel 865 and and Intel 955 based computers (the motherboards are themselves Intel) that are set up on a gigabit ethernet network. They are using the motherboard-based gigabit ethernet adapters. Are there any settings that I can make to the network adapters to optimize them for speed ? I need to transfer large .ts files between them. I was thinking things like enabling jumbo frames, etc.

Right now I am showing transfer rates of around 18-24 MB per second per my Vice Versa file transfer utility.

Thanks for any thoughts.

A:Network adapter optimized for file transfer speed

Jumbo Frames is pretty much the only thing you can set in the NIC configuration. Mind you, you need to enable it on all adapters connected to the network.

I assume you are copying files over Windows shares? You can apply some Windows tweaks to make SMB go faster, but it is just _slow_. You may have better luck using dedicated transfer protocols with no filesystem overhead like FTP. (Or iSCSI of course *g*)

Also, are you sure it is not your hard drives that are the bottleneck? 20MB/s could easily be the limit for a badly fragmented drive.

A:Hard Drive Short DST Check : WARNING and Optimized DST Check...

Yes you need to replace the hard drive. Since you have upgraded to Windows 10 it is very easy to get recovery media directly from the Microsoft Media Creation Tool. For most people, the problem is not physically swapping out the hard drive, but restoring the operating system since they do not have recovery disks. Post back if you want a service manual and/or video showing the replacement, purchase options for a new hard drive and step-by-step for restoring Windows 10. We would need the full model...g6-????

Hi,
This issue could be caused if Defragment take operation on SSD. And as we know SSD cannot be defragged.

To check if your SSD has been defragmented, please run following powershell command:

Get-EventLog -LogName Application -Source "microsoft-windows-defrag" | sort timegenerated -desc | fl timegenerated, message
Judging by the drive letter, you can easily see if your SSD drive gets defragmented. The SSD volume below has been correctly re-trimmed first, but then erroneously defragged.
You can try following steps to avoid defragmentation of your SSD:
Exclude SSD from automatic maintenance
Open the disk optimizer (dfrgui):

Press "Change Settings".
Press "Choose" and remove checkboxes from SSD volumes.
In addition, I will document it and confirm with product team if it is by design.
Keep post.Kate Li

Hi!I recently had to wipe my system and reinstall windows 10 on my Thinkpad L450. After the reinstall of windows, I had lost all of my Lenovo programs. Is there any way that I can get that power plan back?So far, I've tried to reinstall the Lenovo settings app, but it hasn't brought the power plan.I'm really hoping for an answer because the power plan gave me about 3 more hours of usage than the standard widnows power saver plan. Thank you in advance!Kind Regards,Jes

Hiya.

I reformatted my pc, but it was having a bit of a problem, so I selected "Load Optimized Defaults" in my XP Pro Bios, and now it's still having the same problem. I need to reformat, but because "Load Optimized Defaults" is loading, the bios doesn't come up, it just goes straight to windows.
How can I take "Load Optimized Defaults" off so I can reformat again?
I need to get back into my Bios settings.
(The problem is to do with my pc, don't need to solve it, just need to know how to reformat cause my Bios won't come up, so it won't load from CD.)

Do you press keys to make the BIOS setup appear? Optimized defaults can cause problems if some hardware is not up to the additional stress that is put on it by trying to run faster.

I have this internet connection connected to my pc, i have another NIC installed for routing this internet to other computers. I have TP-LINK Wireless router and all I want to do is connect the internet to my PC first then connect router to my PC via another NIC so that the router can route that internet!
Any help is highly appreciated; i have been trying hard but really end up in dead-end everytime
I connected my router's WAN port via 2nd NIC and set the router to static mode (don't know what i have to do here)

I now have an ethernet network using the Linksys router that I received when I signed up for Vonage (which I recommend and like very much). I would like to make my network wireless, but I would rather not have to spend the big bucks for the Vonage wireless telephone router, since they give no rebate to existing customers--bummer! So, my question is: Linksys' website doesn't recommend using a router to a router, and they do recommend an access point. How does that work? I don't know what an access point is and I would like advice on the best and most economical way to maintain my Vonage service and start a wireless network.
Thanks.

A:Access point to router OR router to router?

You can use a wireless router as an access point. You just don't use the Wan port of the Wireless router. You connect it to one of the lan switch ports.

The easiest way is to run the CD that should have come with the Router, if you havent got it then you will have to configure it manually.

Full instructions can be found on the netgear website here.

Hello,

Short story even shorter, there was a semi-power outage this morning (lights were very dim but power wasn't totally off), and when the power came back on my router stopped working. Here's what I know:

-The WLAN LED is no longer lit so there's no wireless. That orange CiscoSystems button is no longer glowing orange either if that means much.

-For some odd reason a wired connection through any of the ethernet ports on the router no longer works either, though the LED's still light up when connected, along with the internet LED.

-The modem works fine, I'm connected to the internet directly from the modem right now.

-I've tried to reset the router, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

-I've tried to access the router config settings, and the page doesn't load.

-I've tried to look up the routers ip address through the command prompt but when I enter the command "ipconfig" when I'm wired through the router I always get the response something along the lines of "media disconnected". When I try the command when connected directly to the modem the default gateway ip address comes up as '68.43.36.1'. This doesn't work either.
I've been searching the web for solutions for hours and I can't find one. This is actually the first time I've ever had to post a thread asking for help and I've experienced a slew of computer problems over the years, lol.

Hello,

I have an 8 port "wired" router from Linksys that I have been using in conjunction to a wireless access point which had been plugged into one of the open ports on the wired router. Lately I have been having connection issues with the WAP so I decided it may be time to upgrade. Not thinking about it, I picked up a new Linksys E1000 wiress router (as opposed to a WAP) and, after a lengthy support call with Linksys, got that up and running.

So I have operability for both wired and wireless devices, however I have noticed a substantial slow down on my wired devices. I also just upped the plan with my ISP to increase my bandwidth which I see on the wired PCs but not on the wireless which seem less. Would a WAP be faster than a wireless router by nature?

Have you made sure you have the latest firmware for the wireless router? If you updated the firmware be sure to reset it to factory default settings and reconfigure it.

What speeds do you get with a test such as speedtest.net with a connection to the wired router? With an ethernet connection to the wireless router? With a wireless connection?

I have tried numerous times to set up the router with this modem and have even tried the bridge mode, but then I don't get internet access through the Belkin router....have no idea what I am doing wrong . I am running Windows XP....and my brother, who I want on the same network, is running Windows Vista...which I really hate. I had my XP connected, but could not get the Vista connected....then I completely messed it up and just am at my wits end....can someone please walk me through this? Hope this isn't confusing but, my internet provider (my cable company) came in to set up a wireless modem/router when we upped our internet speed today. We have three desktop computers which are hard wired to our existing Linksys router which we have been using previously. Would it be in our best interest to turn off the wireless function of that router (it's hooked up to the new modem/wireless router so the hardwired computers can function since the new unit has no ports to plug in the desktop computers into). Our wireless devices are all 'connected' to the new modem/router (using its passphrase and SSID). Can the wireless capabilities of each interfere with each other? They are sitting right next to each other.

A:Solved: Internet provider wireless modem/router and my hard wired router

It's confusing to me, but can make two comments ...

a. If you are not using the wireless network of a router it's best to disable or turn off the wireless--saves electricity and should extend the life of the router.

b. Two wireless networks whose channel numbers are less than five from each other can interfere. In North America if possible use channels 1, 6 and 11 to guarantee non interference.

Hi everyone !

Last night I set up a home network for a friends house using a NETGEAR DG834G wireless router. The desktop is connected to the net through the ethernet cable no probs, and my laptop connects to the router wirelesly no problem in every room in the house.

Problem is my friends laptop which is a Compaq Presario (I forget model) cannot find the router. Instead it finds all the neighbour's routers ?!?!? even with the laptop sitting next to the router there is no detection. It is about one year old and running XP. On the Windows network setup it says the wireless chip on the Compaq is a Broadcom 802.116/g

I use Intel PROSet/Wireless to connect to it using my laptop, but my friends laptop has something called HP Wireless Assistant, which has basically no options other than telling you that the wireless technology is turned on.

I have turned off firewalls etc but it will not find the NETGEAR router ?

Any help greatly appreciated.

So here is my case:

SETUP:

Verizon's Westell 6100:
Modem/Router, provides 1 incoming address (provided by VZ) and provides 1 internal address (192.168.1.1).

Netgear Wireless Router WGT624 v4:
Wireless Router, accepts 192.168.1.1 and provides 10.0.0.X wired and wirelessly.

Problem:
Although Verizon's Router indicates that it is on Bridge mode, the damn thing isnt. I thought the main concept of bridging was to become practically invisible and automatically reroute all traffic to the next device, which is what I want.
I want to ultimately use the Netgear device to set all my rules and settings, instead, I have to do it on both.
For instance, Xbox Live is not working 100% properly. I can only play video games without being able to join specific games, or perform any in-game video/voice chat.

I have tried NATing the device. No luck.
I have also tried setting the Netgear device as a Wireless Base Station. Either way, I just would like to have my network ignore 1 device, and have the second one invisibly reroute all the access.

Thanks to all!

A:Netgear Wireless Router and Westell Modem + Router = Routed Bridge failure

Well, since the "modem" is supplying a private IP address, it's obvious that it's not in bridge mode, that can only happen with a NAT layer, aka a router.

Try this solution to configure it for bridge mode, direct from Verizon: http://www22.verizon.com/residentialhelp/highspeed/networking/setup/questionsthree/123756.htm

I have been trying to find a way to connect, forward the signal, recieve the signal from my Verizon Fios wireless router up to my WGT624 V3 Netgear router.

Is there a way that I can modify my wirless port on my Netgear to recieve a signal wirelessly from my Verizon Wireless router?

My Neighbor did it once with another wireless router, but he can not remember how he did it. I am thinking it had something to do with the Firmware.

If anyone can help me with this that would be great.

I'm basically trying to push the wireless signal from my Verizon router in my basement, up to my wireless Netgear router which is recieving the signal on the main level so that I can plug my wired (non wireless) laptop into the ethernet port which is receiving wireless signal from the Verizon router in the basement in order to gain access to the internet.

Can this be done with the equipment listed above and or some additional firmware and configuration?

Here's my problem... I have a wireless router (1st router, Linksys speed booster), which is connected directly to the internet. From one of it's LAN port, a 50 ft ethernet cable is connected to the 2nd router's WAN port (Vonage 2 phone plug router, Linksys). From the 2nd router's LAN port, a network printer is connected. Now here's the problem, because my laptop connects wirelessly to the 1st router for internet access, how do I print and see any devices connected to the 2nd router? I can't seem to connect to the printer in anyway through this setup. There has to be a way. I can not eliminate the 2nd router because it's my vonage device phone. It requires internet. I also can't relocate the printer because it needs the vonage device for fax. Let me simplify the current setup through a series of descriptive connections.

INTERNET---->>>-------(WAN)-1stRouter-(LAN)------>>>--------(WAN)-2ndRouter-(LAN)------>>>--------(PORT)NetworkPrinter.

Can somebody help me?

A:How 2 setup a netwrk prnter that cnnects 2 a router which is cnnected 2 anther router

If you put the VoIP router first, you can connect the second router as follows. The problem is that you have the NAT layer of the second router between you and the printer.

Connecting two SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

This procedure bypasses the routing function (NAT layer) and configures the router as a switch (or wireless access point for wireless routers).

Just switched over to AT&T DSL from Road Runner Cable Modem.

While I had the cable modem, I used a Linksys WRT54G wireless router that had my PC and laptops connected to it.

Since I switched to AT&T DSL, I have been using AT&T's all-in-one device, the Westell DSL modem/wireless router/firewall.

I've noticed that uPnP doesn't work as well on the Westell as it did on the Linksys. I also had to change some settings to get my VPN to connect to my company's network.

Which is better? Should I put the Westell in bridged mode, and reconnect my Linksys? Or keep it the way I have it running it though the all-in-one device?

A:Westell DSL modem/router/firewall VS. Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router

I'd put the Westell in bridged mode, which will then emulate your old configuration, which apparently worked properly.

no, that will not work as it is only a 'wire connector' and not a signal converter.

here's how; do not put anything into the RJ11 slot on the ADSL WiFi router.

connect an ethernet cable from a LAN slot on the router connected to the phone line
TO another lan slot on the WiFi router. This will cause the WiFi router to act very much
link a switch. Just be sure the DHCP service (on this device) is disabled and only the primary router has DHCP active.

You will still need to setup the WiFi configuration (but do so ONLY with a wired connection to it).

I was attempting to port foreward for my PS3, but was having no luck. Long story short, I tried changing the router's IP to see if it would work. Here's where the problem began. I changed it from 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.1.1, which I believe may have made it conflict with my modem. Now I'm stuck not being able to access the internet through the router at all or access the router's configuration to change it back. When I try to access it, I just get a "Page not Found". The computer connected directly to the router is running Windows XP. The Router is a Linksys WRT54GS v. 4.

I've tried disconnecting the internet from the Router to see if it would stop the conflicting problem (if that is indeed the problem), but it didn't work. I've tried setting up many different static IP adresses for the computer connected to the router directly, but it didn't work. I've tried nearly everything, but I just can't get it working.

I'm posting this through a computer connected through a switch to my modem.

I don't know if this is possible, but this is what I want to do:
Have the dsl modem router and linksys voip connected together.
I want the voip router to assign dhcp and the dsl modem router to
be used to get internet access but not assign dhcp (I think)

This is why I want it:

I have 8 wireless linksys cam's configured through the voip router.
Setting the cam's to the modem router didn't work well because of
AT&T's firewall cannot be disabled, only modified to open ports. It's frustrating as when I opened the ports for the cam's, a consistant "an unknown error has occured". So I opted to just set up the cams on the linksys router as the cams are also linksys as well. Thus, figuring they would communicate better anyway.

This is my problem:

When I connect the dsl modem router to the
WAN port on the linksys router, the dsl modem assigns it
a fixed LAN ip. What I want is the linksys router to pull a WAN ip so I can log into my cam's remotely from my laptop at home.
No matter what I do, disable dhcp on linksys router, set linksys router on the dsl modem router to DMZ, set linksys router to bridge mode.....
nothing seems to work.

All I want to do is configure the linksys router so that when I go to my internet explorer on my laptop and type in "99.xxx.xxx.xx:1024 to connect to the cam's. But when I go to linksys router config. pages to see the status, the internet ip is 192.168.1.64 which is a LAN address assi... Read more

I have Qwest/CenturyLink DSL, and recently replaced the Actiontec M1000 modem which crapped out after 5 years of service. Replaced it with a Netgear DM111PSP v2 router/modem. Now I cannot get either of my two routers, the Linksys WRT54G or WRT160N V2 to broadcast wireless internet. I've spent the most time on the WRT160N. It will broadcast a wireless signal, but devices that attempt to connect to the internet time out while "obtaining IP address". BTW, I just happen to have two wireless routers on hand, I only need one to work.

I can get internet through the hard wire connection. I have the Netgear modem hooked up to the "internet" port of the WRT160N router, and the computer is connected to one of the four ethernet ports on the back of the router. I can access both router and modem setup pages using this setup. The Netgear modem is set up for DHCP server, PPPoA encapsulation, and gets its DNS address dynamically from the ISP. The WRT160N is also set up for automatic DHCP configuration. These are the settings given by running each set up wizard, and this has set me up for some DHCP conflicts.

I think that setting up a dual modem/router in transparent bridging mode (PPPoE) in theory turns off the DHCP, allowing the WRT160N to handle DHCP, but I have no luck even getting my hard-wired internet connection to work if I switch from PPPoA to PPPoE mode. Even if I cut the WRT160N out of the loop and connect the computer direct to the DM111PSP. No internet,... Read more

I was trying to make my sister-in-law's wireless connection secure (they've had wireless set up for awhile unsecured), and all seemed to go well until magically, it didn't. It allowed me to set up a password -WPA2/Personal, it was fine, other devices (ipod Touch and another laptop) connected to the network by putting in the right key. HOWEVER, the original laptop, now wants no part of connecting to this network. It finds the network, but doesn't even let me get to a stage at which I need to enter the WPA key. It automatically says it can't connect, and is very useless when I hit "Diagnose the problem". I am only marginally less clueless than the people that asked for my help, so please don't get too technical on me. I have spent hours trying to figure out what the problem is, and though I know it's obviously something with the computer's setting, I don't know what that is.

When I go to the Network and Sharing Center, rather than being a three-way "map", it's two - the computer, then the internet. There is nothing (ie, router) in between. I have no idea how to get that step back in there.

I have connected the router to the laptop directly, and an internet connection does come up, so it isn't an ISP issue. The wireless does work with the devices mentioned above, as well as my own laptop, just not the central laptop.

Greetings!

I have subscribed to DSL and Teleco Video (cable) through my phone company. They provided the Westell Modem (Model #D90-740010-06). It has 4 ports but 3 goto the televisions for cable and the other is going to my personal computer.

I have a Compusa SKU:333628 wireless router I want to connect so i can also use my laptop.

my ISP will not assist since the connection works with model/personal computer with hardwired.

I thought I could just run a cable from one of the ports on the DSL/Router to the WAN port on my Wireless Router, however this did not work. So I ran a cable from one of the ports on the DSL/router to a regular ethernet port on the wireless routher (not the WAN) and I could hardwire both the desktop pc and wireless and connect to internet however the wireless would never work, my pc says wireless is connect but when I open IE or firefox it does not connect.

The following link will take you to the manual for my wireless router:

and the following is the datasheet for the westell model/router

You have 2 routers - they are both trying to issue IP addresses so it is not surprising that there is a problem. If you can disable DHCP on the wireless router it might work as a wireless switch or hub. It is worth a try.

So I have AT&T DSL. I bought a Netgear N300 ADSL2+ Modem/WiFi Router that is compatible with my service.

Previously with this Modem/Router it would constantly drop the wireless connection for the Wii I have that was used to stream Netflix.

So recently I bought a Linksys E2500 Router so I could be able to use the Wii, along with 3 other desktops, 1 laptop, and 3 phones.

My ideal setup would be this:
Set the ADSL2+ Modem/Router to be just a modem (I know how to set the option for this)Connect the Linksys Router to be what all the devices connect to wirelessly (this would serve as the DHCP server)
I have read that one of the Routers has to be set to "BRIDGED" mode, yet I don't know which device has to be Bridged

Hi Vonage experts,

A long time ago, someone helped set up my computer network, and now I need to do something, but I don't know how. I know the solution must be extremely simple, but I just don't know what to do.

Basically, I have:

- a computer
- a Vonage modem
- an SMC wireless router
- a cable Internet modem

As I'm writing, I keep going back and forth to look at the set up, to make sure that I'm writing a really accurate description. The way the system is set up is:

1. An ethernet cable connects the cable modem to the Internet port of the Vonage modem

2. An ethernet cable connects the LAN port of the Vonage modem to the "LAN 3" port of the SMC wireless router

3. An ethernet cable connects the "LAN 4" port of the SMC wireless router to my computer

4. A phone cord connects the Phone 1 port of the Vonage modem to my telephone

Note 1: nothing goes to the WAN port of the SMC wireless router.
Note 2: the Vonage modem is set to DHCP
Note 3: the LAN configuration of my computer says "Obtain an IP address automatically" and also "Obtain DNS server address automatically".

I know how to access the Vonage configuration page, which is by going to 192.168.15.1 on my web browser. But that's not what I need.

What I need help with is: now I need to access the SMC wireless router's configuration page, but I am stuck, because:

I went to a small office that has a DSL connection. It seems to be going through a router of some kind because they all have IP adresses with the first 3 octets being the same number. I recently got qwest DSL and I configured my Wireless to work and accept my wireless MAC Address, but when I plug it into the WAN slot in the Linksys router it doesn't work. I know there is a buttload of bad stuff on my computer, but I need a quick fix for my problem now.

My router/modem work fine. They're connected to my computer and VOIP, and they work perfectly. The problem is the internet does not register this and thus doesn't work on other PCs. In other words, I can't get my laptop to recognize my router.

When I start up network connections, I get this message:

this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

The original message was "broadband error" or somethign like that so I did a week old system restore. No good. So I figure there's a problem on my computer.

Also, I tested the connection thoroughly, and I reset them, and junk, but still I got nothing.

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. [You will not need a cross-over cable if one of the "routers" is a computer.] Leave the WAN port unconnected!

This procedure bypasses the routing function (NA... Read more

We have internet connectivity with a Westel Wirespeed router/modem that works just great; however, when we connect the Linksys router (connected according to instructions), we have no connection to the internet and we cannot even ping the Westel router modem. I've done a dozen or more of these in the last six months so I know the wires are connected correctly.

After forty minutes of my fighting this thing on my own, I spent another two hours and ten minutes on the phone talking to some Indian whom I had to ask over and over to repeat what he was saying. Finally, I gave up and hung up on the guy who was begging me for the third time in his poor enunciations not to give up. I'd had enough.

Are there any pointers anyone here can give me? I tried another Linksys router today, hammering away at the problem, trying every experimental setting I could think of and I didn't get anywhere with it either.

Well, as the title says, I am experiencing difficultly in getting the NAT setting on my Xbox 360 to Open status. I've searched in many places on the internet, including these forums for an answer and I've yet to find one which solves my issues, so I decided it was time to finally ask for help.

What I'm working currently working with is the Embarq P600R ADSL modem/router combo (If there's a more specific name for it, I don't know it as I don't have the packaging - I'm simply going by what was printed on the modem itself) working through my Linksys WRT54GS router by way of the ethernet ports of both units. The WRT54GS is then hardwired to four different computers, and broadcasts to my Xbox 360 wirelessly via microsoft's network adapter specifically designed for the unit (compatability between the adapter and router isn't an issue, just trying to cover all my bases). Because of this, all of the LAN ports on my WRT54GS are currently being used, preventing me from attempting to simply make my WRT54GS act as only access point, since to my knowledge I would need to plug the modem/router into one of its LAN ports instead of the ethernet port.

Thus far I've tried enabling UPnP on both units, setting up a DMZ for my 360's IP on the WRT, and Forwarding Ports 88 (TCP/UDP) and 3074 (TCP/UDP) on the WRT, both individually and simultaneously.

I also had somewhat of a breakthrough when I switched the P600R to bridge mode, as it gave ... Read more
