the problem:

let me first start by saying that i know that EVERY device mentioned above is able to connect to the WIFI. they just dont :s.
Ie: jst yesterday i was on my PC, on wifi on my iphone.

since my roomate moved in, the above mentioned devices won't connect anymore. his do though :s.

i tried powering off and on both modem and router, nothing. the same devices will connect only none of the others.
i would like for all my devices to connect, all the time, without the need to reboot.

About a year ago, my wireless router would randomly not allow any wireless devices to connect to the network. A wired cable worked fine, but not wireless. So we had to unplug the router, and then it would work fine.

You could see the device, but not connect. We moved our wireless phone a little farther away from the router thinking it was interfering, but still no luck. It didn't matter if it was an iPod, our BluRay player, or a laptop. Sometime days would go by with no problem, and some days we would restart the router three or four times.

So we replaced the router, only to have the same problem. We called tech support, but they were no help. So we changed from a local ISP to Comcast, replaced the router for a third time (Cisco Wireless N), and we are still having the same problem. Any ideas?

I'm trying to use a router to establish a wireless connection with a machine running XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2. I've connected successfully in the past with other machines (including now, as I write this), so it doesn't seem to be the router or the modem that's the problem. What's more, it's not XP, since there's another machine that can connect fine.

So, I'm stumped. I've contacted both my ISP and the manufacturer of the router, but not much help there.

Any thoughts? The machine sees the wireless connection fine, will attempt to connect and will actually say that it was successful in connection -- but there's no access to the internet and the status is actually limited or no connectivity.

Hello Guys,

I am having trouble with my wireless connection. It was working fine till a couple of days back and then started acting up. Let me explain the problem in detail.

System connects to the router. It shows full signal. After 10-15 seconds the wireless gets disconnected. After that the behaviour is quite varied. Sometimes the router itself is not recongnized. Sometimes the router is recognized but the system doesnt connect. If I force it to then it again says cannot connect to a hidden network. After a while maybe 4-5 mins later it recongnizes and tries connecting again sometimes it succeeds sometimes it doesnt.

My System Specifications are given below.

1. Samsung Ultrabook Series S - Model NP530U3C-A01UK
2. Processsor - Intel COre 5-3317U CPU @1.70 Ghz
3. Windows 7 Hope Premium - 64 Bit OS
4. Wireless Network Adaptor - Intel Centrino Advaced N-6235
5. ROuter - Thomson
6. 6GB RAM

A Little bit about my Home network
There are 5 devices connected usually. My Wife's PC which is a Dell Inspiron and runs on Windows 7 Home premium, My Ipad, 2 of our Smart Phones and My PC. Every other device currently works fine except mine. So looks like the problem is with my system rather than the router or network provider.

Remedies I have tried and failed
1. Updated the Network Driver by downloading and installing it from Intel Website
2. From the ROuter side manually changed the channel to see if that has an effect
3. FLushed my DNS, tried to release and ren... Read more

A:Connecting to Wireless Router keeps connecting and disconnecting

I hate to say it, but since you have done everything I would have done, its possible the wireless adapter is broken/not functioning correctly. Is the product still under warranty? Especially since you stated that other devices connect just fine.
So its probably not the router.
The only other thing I can think of to try would be to buy another wireless router and test it with that.
If you have no problems, something is amiss.
You could also set your router back to factory defaults and try again.

Hello,

I have an 8 port "wired" router from Linksys that I have been using in conjunction to a wireless access point which had been plugged into one of the open ports on the wired router. Lately I have been having connection issues with the WAP so I decided it may be time to upgrade. Not thinking about it, I picked up a new Linksys E1000 wiress router (as opposed to a WAP) and, after a lengthy support call with Linksys, got that up and running.

So I have operability for both wired and wireless devices, however I have noticed a substantial slow down on my wired devices. I also just upped the plan with my ISP to increase my bandwidth which I see on the wired PCs but not on the wireless which seem less. Would a WAP be faster than a wireless router by nature?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

A:Slow wireless after connecting Linkys wirless router to Linksys wired router

Have you made sure you have the latest firmware for the wireless router? If you updated the firmware be sure to reset it to factory default settings and reconfigure it.

What speeds do you get with a test such as speedtest.net with a connection to the wired router? With an ethernet connection to the wireless router? With a wireless connection?

I have been trying to find a way to connect, forward the signal, recieve the signal from my Verizon Fios wireless router up to my WGT624 V3 Netgear router.

Is there a way that I can modify my wirless port on my Netgear to recieve a signal wirelessly from my Verizon Wireless router?

My Neighbor did it once with another wireless router, but he can not remember how he did it. I am thinking it had something to do with the Firmware.

If anyone can help me with this that would be great.

I'm basically trying to push the wireless signal from my Verizon router in my basement, up to my wireless Netgear router which is recieving the signal on the main level so that I can plug my wired (non wireless) laptop into the ethernet port which is receiving wireless signal from the Verizon router in the basement in order to gain access to the internet.

Can this be done with the equipment listed above and or some additional firmware and configuration?

Thank you for all your assistance on this in advance.

I have Qwest/CenturyLink DSL, and recently replaced the Actiontec M1000 modem which crapped out after 5 years of service. Replaced it with a Netgear DM111PSP v2 router/modem. Now I cannot get either of my two routers, the Linksys WRT54G or WRT160N V2 to broadcast wireless internet. I've spent the most time on the WRT160N. It will broadcast a wireless signal, but devices that attempt to connect to the internet time out while "obtaining IP address". BTW, I just happen to have two wireless routers on hand, I only need one to work.

I can get internet through the hard wire connection. I have the Netgear modem hooked up to the "internet" port of the WRT160N router, and the computer is connected to one of the four ethernet ports on the back of the router. I can access both router and modem setup pages using this setup. The Netgear modem is set up for DHCP server, PPPoA encapsulation, and gets its DNS address dynamically from the ISP. The WRT160N is also set up for automatic DHCP configuration. These are the settings given by running each set up wizard, and this has set me up for some DHCP conflicts.

I think that setting up a dual modem/router in transparent bridging mode (PPPoE) in theory turns off the DHCP, allowing the WRT160N to handle DHCP, but I have no luck even getting my hard-wired internet connection to work if I switch from PPPoA to PPPoE mode. Even if I cut the WRT160N out of the loop and connect the computer direct to the DM111PSP. No internet,... Read more

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together
From a John Will Post

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

I am a novice when it comes to networking so please help me out...
I am connecting Netgear wireless router (wgr614 v5) to an already placed router on the network (Nortel Networks Router). I am having trouble with wireless router because the Nortel router is DHCP disabled. Please if someone could help me, I would greatly appreciate. Please, explain step by step how to configure the wireless router to work with Nortel router.

P.S. The Nortel router cannot be DHCP enabled...I have DSL coming to Nortel router. So, Nortel is the primary router. Nortel router can't be removed because it is required by my company that I use it to connect to their network over the internet.

I recently got qwest DSL and I configured my Wireless to work and accept my wireless MAC Address, but when I plug it into the WAN slot in the Linksys router it doesn't work. I went to linksys site and did their configuration which is changing the router LAN IP to 192.168.0.1, then power cycling, but this doesn't help. I cannot access the internet still. Both the modem/router and the router are operating DHCP, but if I disable the modem/router, I cannot access the wireless function, and if I disable the DHCP on my Linksys router, I cannot obtain an IP from the modem router via the linksys router.

This is frustrating lol.

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Can't access internet.
Scoured Zonet site/forums.
No driver updates.
No errata on installation or any pertinent info.

Looked up Qwest specifications for Router set up... nothing helpful there.

I recently tried to install a USB printer and the installation failed becuse the software driver was not recognised.

I gave up on the printer and am now having the same problem with a USB scanner.

The scanner appears in device manager under "other devices" and has a yellow question mark. The driver is apprently not installed and Windows XP Home cannot find the driver anywhere not even on the manufacturers installation disc.

The scanner is on the task bar with a red cross through it.

All this was also true for the printer.

Is this a USB driver problem and how to correct it?

On "The Screensavers" last night they mentioned that when tou connect ide devices put both hard drives on the same cable because the two devices will run only at the speed of the slower drive. Is this so ? I assume that this just means when they are in use! What speed are we then talking about with two hard drives teh Uma 33/66 etc?

A:connecting IDE devices

It 's the maximum transfer speed of the bus of the HD. If you have a newer HD with a greater transfer rate connected on the bus with an older slower drive, the new drive will only transfer data at the slower rate as the computer cannot autoswitch the transfer rate dependent upon which drive it's attempting to access on the same bus (channel). Moving the new drive to another bus (channel) should allow for the drive to operate at it's nominal transfer rate. Of course this is also dependent upon the MB manufacturer and BIOS.

Hello!
I've been having this problem for about a week now and can't seem to solve it. I installed Avast recently and I think it's the culprit. Anytime my laptop turns on, my wi-fi disconnects from every other device in the house. The laptop then refused to connect too. It's showing up but just unable to connect.
I also noticed in my Device Manager that I have 6 WAN Miniports that I never noticed before, would they have anything to do with it?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Rosie

I was looking at getting a wireless router (either a D-Link 615 or a Netgear Rangemax WNR1000) and I'm not exactly sure how to set it up. I have a BEC Technologies 7402 TM (NOT GTM) adsl wired modem/router that my telephone company gave me when I switched to DSL. There are 4 LAN ports on the back of the modem/router, a line port that my telephone cable is connected to, and a console port that I don't use. 2 of the LAN ports are being used. One is connected to my cable box, the other has an ethernet cord that runs halfway around my house, through a wall and into a wall jack that my desktop computer is connected to. I only want to use the wireless router to connect to my Wii and one laptop, I would like to keep my desktop connection wired. I had previously tried to connect to xbox live by connecting my xbox to one of the LAN ports but I could never get it to work, so now I just switch the ethernet cords between my xbox and computer in the wall jack whenever I want to use one or the other. Will I be able to connect a wireless router to one of the LAN ports and receive a signal or will I have to connect the wireless router to the wall jack that my desktop is hooked to, and run the connection through the router? I've never setup a wireless network before so I'm a little new to this subject.

I have a sagem 3304 wifi modem router provided by the telecoms company. it has a limited wifi range and in my experience of wifi it also has frequent dropouts/connection problems. we connect the desktop pc to it by ethernet and that's just fine.

we also were given (by a 3rd party) a belkin n1 wireless router (the model without modem) and would like to try it out to be the wifi router. The idea is to connect it by ethernet to the sagem and place it in a more central part of the property. I reckon about 15m of ethernet cable. we would disable the wifi on the sagem. had we been given the belkin model with internal modem, this would not be an issue and we would not need to use the sagem at all - that is not meant to sound ungrateful!!

can anyone see any pitfalls with this? or if it is do-able, any recommendations re:configs?

I have found another post loosely related to using 2 routers however it doesn't really address this specifically:
http://forums.techguy.org/networking/715999-using-2-routers-same-time.html

A:Connecting a wireless router to a modem router via ethernet?

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

This procedure bypasses the routing function (NAT layer) and configures the router as a switch (or wireless access point for wireless routers).

My wife's sister has Comcast Cable. They installed a Modem/Router that the wireless part seems to have died. Can a wireless router be connected via ethernet cable to the cable modem/ router?

A:Connecting Wireless router to Cable Modem/Router

Yes, adding a wifi router to one of the ports will set it as a node on the dhcp server{modem} and if there is a conflict in ip address, usually will change it to a 10.0.0.1

Hi all! I have problems when i try to transfer files between my PC and other devices (mobile phones, PC's) via bluetooth.

I can send files normally but i cannot receive them. When I try to receive, the connection just fails. Do you have any idea what might be the problem and how to solve it? Could it be something to do with serial ports? At the moment I am using different serial ports for sending and receiving (COM23 and COM24). How can I change the serial ports so that they would the same for sending and receiving..?
Or has it anything to do with serial ports?

I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit and my bluetooth device is Generic Bluetooth Radio manifactured by Cambridge Silicon Radio Ltd.

I would like to connect a variety of wireless devices in my house to my work VPN while allowing other devices in the house access to my home network as normal.

I was hoping to find a wireless ADSL router that allows me to associate a LAN port to a VPN connection, then connect a wireless access point to that port. I could then run two wireless networks in my house, one that would connect to my work VPN and the other that would not.

Is there such a router?

If not, is there some other way of doing what I need?

Hey

I got an ISP that has assigned me a static IP address that is obtained via DHCP. For the connection to work properly, a MAC address of the computer connected to the Internet must be entered into the ISP's system.

I wanted to make a wireless network, so I asked my ISP for permission. They said I could only use my router as an access point and that I had to turn off the DHCP server. I am not allowed to plug in the RJ45 into the WAN port.

Now, in the 'access point' mode, can I somehow connect 2 devices to the Internet using the Wi-Fi? It seems that only the device that has its MAC address entered into the ISP's system can connect to the Internet.

If the above is not an option, what if I used the WAN port and entered the router's MAC address into the ISP's system? Is there a way for them to tell I'm breaking the rules?

In short, how do I connect multiple devices to the Internet and don't get busted?

Thanks for your help in advance and sorry for the newbie question.

Hi I have a very strange problem.Only our Apple devices will connect to our wifi.First let me explain our internet connection.
We have and pay for Internet through RCN cable However my husbands workplace gave him a juniper ssg5 router to connect to our modem so he can work from home a few days a week. He has a Cisco IP phone and laptop running windows 7 configured to connect directly to work via VPN. They also provided a second wireless net WPA for our family to use.

Here's the problem. As of yesterday none of our devices running Windows or Android will connect to the WPA network..Our Apple iPads and iPhone have no problem. We have two HP laptops one running Vista one running 8 and two Lg android phones. The problem seems to have started when I installed Firefox on my laptop running Vista then downloaded and started to install the Firefox app to my android phone.. Could that be the problem.? Then why would it effect my daughters phone and laptop also?

Oh btw hubby is Ocd about his network so although his juniper has two ports we should be able to use I don't see that happening until Friday after work he said he would call tech support then
Thanks for any insight you can give me

It has a 3.2gb hdd, and I have 2 formatted 10gig hard drives (from xbox) that I would like to connect.
I am having problems when connecting more than 2 IDE drives to the system.
it appears to work fine when I have 2 IDE drives on, like one harddrive as the primary master and the cd rom as secondary slave.
when i connect more than 2 drives is when i have problems, usually it gets stuck on the Hewlett Packard screen at startup
I have tried using the cable select combinations on the jumpers as well as the normal settings.

this pc is a mini tower case and it is veery tight to get around... i cannot remove the cd rom drive out of its bay because i can only access screws on one side of it.. the other is on the mobo side. It is attached to the secondary master, and im presuming that the jumper is set to master.

The IDE cable on the secondary IDE port thingy is a normal kind, it is marked CPU board, Slave, Master on the connectors.
Whereas the IDE cable on the Primary IDE port thingy just has CPU Board and Master. It does not have a slave connector.

I have changed the primary ide cable to the normal type, wif slave and master plugs.

Maybe the primary ide port only can handle 1 drive?? but in bios it says:

Hello customers and insiders,

can anyone help me, please ? - or are the problems causes of not perfect programmed BIOS ?

I put on the USB-Ports (I tried all 3 Ports) after correct installation of the newest drivers for the devices and for BIOS and chipset.
I tried MAGIX encoder per USB and PINNACLE encoder for USB - both had signal-request-problems and both couldn't shut down the system after connection with the USB and shut down with it the USB-current for device.

I tried this on different WinXP installiations (multiple Boot) - but on every System the same.

The same reaction was, as I connected a special Cooler-PAD for Notebook with added USB-Ports.
The PAD cooled - but the USB-Ports didn't work for any devices (the devices I'm regular using with the
original Ports of the notebook, didn't work at the PAD, too). (directly worked devices: Mouse, web-cam, keyboard, hdd-usb)

what to do ? ...if anyone knows somethin' for help ...I will be very happy.

THANKS SO MUCH!!!! (Sorry for my not-perfekt English)

My home network consists of a Belkin F5D7231-4 wireless router connected to a Linksys BEFCMU10 cable modem. My desktop system and an HP Media Vault are connected to two of the four LAN ports on the Belkin wireless router via ethernet cables. I have 2 laptops connecting wirelessly. I have two printers connected via USB to the desktop system and shared across the network. All computers are sharing the internet, data storage, and printers without any problems.

My house is prewired for ethernet with wiring that terminates in a central in-wall location near my cable modem, but away from the Belkin wireless router, desktop, and Media Vault. I'd like to expand my network to include the in-wall wiring, and the easiest way (I think) is to add a new wired-only router near the cable modem and in-wall wiring termination point. To maintain wireless capability, I would convert my Belkin wireless router to a WAP (using the excellent tutorial you reference on your forum).

If I convert my Belkin wireless router to a WAP and connect it via a LAN port to the new wired (primary) router, will I still be able to utilize the other LAN ports on the Belkin WAP to connect my desktop and Media Vault? Will there be a performance hit for these devices vs. connecting them directly to the new wired router? Any other issues I can expect with this setup?

Thanks for your help.

A:Solved: Connecting Wired Devices to WAP

Yes, the remaining ports are just other connections on the four port switch that you have connected the primary router to. There will be no performance hit, other than the obvious limitations of maximum bandwidth of the 100mbit switch section. It would be the same issue if you connected them directly to the main router, just the switch would be in a different place.

Hi,

I'm having trouble connecting my wifi printer (Canon pixma mg3100) and my Lacie Network Space on Win8, while I haven't experienced any problems connecting these same devices to my Win7 computers.

The driver for the printer is, according to Canon, compatible with windows 8.

When I install the software on both my windows 7 laptops, it immediately recognize the network and after 5 minutes I can print wireless without any problems.

However when I try to install the same software on my win8 computer it keeps asking to first plugin a usb cable and do a lot of manual steps, like pressing several buttons on the printer, it's ridiculous! After a while the software succeeds in finding my Wifi but it keeps on saying 'unable to connect'

Same story for the Nas. (and problably for all network devices)

My win8 laptop is a brand new Dell Inspiron and I didn't change any network settings.

Am I missing something here?

Hello all,

I've been having some problems with my wi-fi since yesterday morning and I'm getting rather frustrated.

The setup I have is an ASUS RT-N66U in AP Mode, bridged to a Thomson TWG870ug, which is in bridge mode, and supplied by my cable provider, UPC Cablecom.

The Thomson router has always been pretty awful so we decided to get the N66U to extend the wi-fi range, which has worked well. Unfortunately, the other day, I started having problems with the internet (which I believe was my supplier's problem and not one on my end) and so I powered off the routers and powered them on again. That's where the wireless problems started.

My various devices could connect but there was absolutely no internet connection. So, after a day, I decided to just reset both routers. I set them up in bridge mode (I think I did exactly what I did during the initial set up months ago) and all seemed fixed. The internet connection was fine on both my desktop PC and my partner's Macbook. However, my iPhone refuses to connect to it. It just remains stuck on the connecting stage. The televisions I had connected to the wireless also cannot connect. My laptop can connect but it is 'limited'. I've had a look at the settings on both routers but I really don't know much about what they should look like so I've come to you looking for help.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Hi All:
I have a Linksys VPN Router at home set up to connect to an FTP site which is a server at my office. If I connect my laptop hardwired to the VPN router I can connect to the FTP no prob. If I try to connect using my wireless network router (Netgear) whose WAN side is connected to the LAN side of the VPN I can access the internet which proves that connection is OK but cannot access the FTP.

I know this is because the VPN FTP is looking for an address on my laptop which matches the VPN routers IP address. Problem is I can't figure out how to make the LAN side of the Wireless the same as the LAN side of the VPN. Inherently, I don't think this is possible as they are in effect 2 different networks.

So, my question is, Is there a way to do this? Can I make the wireless router more like an access point so I can make the hops necessary to use VPN through the wireless?

Thanks in advance!

Hey guys I'm a bit of a networking noob so I'm wondering if this setup I have will work in getting all my computers to share our home internet...

Basically my current setup in my basement this:

ethernet cable modem

Wired DLink Router---------->main desktop+2nd desktop
Pretty standard...But now we want a laptop and another desktop on our top floor because someone else moved in. LUCKILY before we finished the basement I had another ethernet cable going from the router to the Wii on the main floor. We don't play that anymore so I was wondering if it was possible to buy a wireless router for the main floor, connect it wired to the basement router, and than use it wirelessly so that it extends to the top floor? Meanwhile, the router in the basement still connects to the two computers? It'd look like this.

basement floor
modem
V
V
Wired router---------->main desktop+2nd desktop
V
V
Main floor/ground floor
wireless router
V
V
second floor
wirelessly connect to----->laptop+ 3rd desktop (will have to install pci card)
so yeah, does it work that way?

Hi all,

My Netopia Router from SBC just crapped out on me early last week. So I decided to buy a router from a local electronics store. I already had a SpeedStream Modem, but I have multiple PCs in the house, so I need to 'route' the connection to other PCs.

Anywho, I went to the store today and picked up a Linksys DSL/Cable Router (Wired) with 4 port switch (#BEFSR41). I hooked it up, followed the CD Wizard, and plugged in the 2 PCs on this level (I have 3 Levels in my house). The PCs on this level worked.

Now, I have a D-Link wireless router since there are wireless notebooks/PCs upstairs. Before I had the Linksys, I just plugged that router into my Netopia and it worked fine. Now when I plugged it into this new Linksys router, it doesn't work.

What am I doing wrong?

All PCs are running Win XP if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

I have noticed that when a program or something using sound is running, if I unplug my speaker device and then either plug it back in, or plug in a new audio playback device, the sound will stop working altogether and within a matter of about two minutes, the entire computer will become unresponsive to the point that I have to manually restart it via pressing the button. This problem did not occur in Windows 7 (previous version I had); so therefore, I know it is not a problem with the CPU.

Hello All,

I have a Plantronics USB Headset that I have used many many times on this Windows 7 Guest OS, for things like Cisco IP Communicator. This has worked just about everytime I have connected it to the Win7 VM, but every couple of weeks/months my Win7 VM suddenly
begins having all sorts of issues that just cannot seem to get fixed, including Windows Updates not installing and showing that I have never run Windows Updates before
(*i.e. history is blank), Updates failing to be configured after reboot, etc, etc... Windows Index options disappear including the index itself
(*usually the Rebuilding option does nothing but today it seemed to work...)... As well as a bunch of other stuff that almost makes the VM unusable, and it all seems to happen at once. I usually have to end up either restoring the VM to an earlier,
Backed-up image of the VM files, or attempting a "Non-Destructive" Re-Install of Win7... VERY FRUSTRATING!!!

But anyway, back to the problem at hand. My audio seems to be working ok at the moment. But, as soon as I connect my Plantronics USB Headset to the VM the speaker icon in the system tray gets a red "x" thrown over it and hovering the mouse over it,
it says "No Output Audio Device is Installed". If I unplug the Headset the "x" disappears from the speaker icon instantly and sound works fine again.

I have a dell optiplex, the primary HD is a Western Digital 160gb Sata I also have a LG DVD/RW combo drive set to master on the IDE channel.

I recently attempted to add a 2nd ide maxtor HD and for the life of me cannot get both ide devices to show in the bios.. I've tried setting the ide hd as both slave, master and cable select and the dvd drive the same to no avail, always one will show in bios but the other won't.. however both ide devices will show in windowsXP and work just fine.. being that I need my drives to be bootable I need them to show in the bios as well.

I've tried 2 different IDE cables now one being a brand new asus cable..

I'm curious as to whether it could be a power issue?

My power supply is 500W +3.3V +5V +12V -5V -12V +5VS8
28.0A 35A 25A 0.5A 0.8A 2.5A

I'm running currently:

1 WD JS1600 160Gb SATA HD
1 Maxtor 7200rpm 120Gb IDE
1 LG DVD/CD/R/W COMBO

and most importantly, the energy hog PNY GEFORCE VERTA 9600GT

Other steps I've taken so far has been updating the bios, switching the cable and jumper settings to every possible combination, other then switching my Sata jumper settings which is OPT1 (I'm clueless on sata jumper settings).

The pc boots fine, although seems noticeably slower in boot and load times (although I had a virus or 2 recently that could be causing that) my main C:\ shows both in windows and bios, my dvd drive shows in both as well, my f:\ (ide hd) shows only in windows, even in disk management ... Read more

Hello Everyone o/ UPDATED SEE BELOW!!!

I have had a 27" ASUS monitor and 2 tv's (32" and 55") hooked up to my pc. Today I replaced the 32" tv with another 27" ASUS monitor. After the installation, there were MANY problems with my PC. Please read details below. I did not get to do much troubleshooting because I had to leave for work, I would like to get some ideas now and I will update this post after I get home tonight.

INSTALLATION: (how the monitor was installed)
-PC was left on (ooops)
-32" tv was turned off and unplugged from PC
-Monitor cables installed to PC in order: Power (wall), DVI.
-Monitor cables installed to monitor in order: Power, DVI, sound.
-Monitor cable installed to PC: Sound (used double headphone jack to share sound with other monitor ooops)
-Verified sound still worked on original monitor
-New Monitor did not work, restart>> See below for errors after restart.
-New Monitor works 4.0

I know I made some mistakes and this is not the proper way to install a monitor, I was in a hurry. I'm posting these steps to see if this could be the cause of my issues, not so you can bash me for being an idiot, so please don't, although I do deserve it.

ERRORS: What happened.
-First and most noticably, Windows was very different. It looked as if it was an old version of Windows. The normal circle start button was replaced with a grey, square button that said START. The taskbar was also grey and square, not blue as usual. D... Read more

Last week or so, we had a storm, and devices got unplugged. Internet service was out briefly. Wireless internet came back shortly after, but my desktop and our PS4 both can't connect to the internet via ethernet, and I can't figure out why. I've done the usual stuff: power cycle, tried out other ethernet cords, etc. Comcast has said that it's not on their end, and our wireless signal is fine, so we're clearly getting signal through the modem and out through the router. My desktop is plugged into a different modem, but also won't connect to the one attached to the router. A hard reset of the modem didn't help, whether through the button or through the configuration settings. My desktop is claiming that there's no ethernet cable plugged in, though there definitely is. I'd suspect a broken port if the PS4 weren't having the same issue. I've tried a few things on the desktop, including installing the most recent drivers for the network adapter, rolling back the driver, disabling/renabling, and just deleting it and let it reinstall one on restart, and trying to reset the IP stack. I'm posting links to screenshots of some of the command prompt commands I've tried, and the results. They vary a little bit, I've gone into the registry to enable some permissions after access was denied. Any ideas you can send my way are greatly appreciated.

This is my deal......

I have a Cable modem going into a Linksys router which goes to a Netgear switch and to a Belkin wireless router.

Everything works as far as internet sharing......my PC hooked up to the wireless router connects to the internet and the PC's coming from the Linksys router and switch connect to the internet so that all good.

Question 1: I want to share files etc between my PCs but the PC's on the Router and Switch can't see the PC hardwired to the Belkin Wireless router. They are all using the "Workgroup" name.

Question 2: Even the PC's which can see themselves when trying to share info. are being asked for a "User Name" and "Password." What "User name" and "Password's" are those. I never set up any passwords on my PC. When my PC's turn on they go right into windows w/o having to type any passwords.

** One of the PC's is using Vista ... the others are using XP Prof.

Any help or links to how to configure my system?

Thanks,

I've searched google several times in order to find the right configuration, but since i'm such a networking newbie it didn't went so well.. could you guys help me?

I have a Thompson Speedtouch ST585 router supplied by my broadband provider. It is connected to the internet via DSL.

My main PC running Windows 7 is connected to the router via a Lan cable.
I also have a Panasonic DMR-BWT700 hard-disk recorder/blu-ray recorder/DNLA device which is also connected to the router via a Lan cable
I also have other devices such as a Wii and other PC's running Windows XP that connect to the router via Wireless.

I can happily connect to the internet from any of the devices on the network, however whatever I do I cannot get any other devices to show up in my Windows 7 network, or get my Windows 7 machine to appear as a DNLA server on the Panasonic device (which is DNLA capable).

I can see all of the devices listed against the appropriate connections on the network diagram in the router config.

I've tried every article I've found regarding Windows networking etc and even temporarily disabled firewalls and so on. I suspect that the router may be blocking access between the devices?

I really want to get the Panasonic device to see my Windows 7 machine so that I can stream media but they just won't see each other. The Panasonic connects to the internet fine and both the Windows 7 machine and Panasonic and IP addresses in the same range (192.168.1.x)

Any ideas?

I have enabled sharing of ethernet connection by going to ethernet properties>>sharing>>check box (Allow other network users to connect through this computer) but the internet is not being shared.
I have configured other devices with static IPs. Gateway and subnet mask is also correct. I am also using different IPs of the same subnet.
Everything was working fine until perhaps I tried installing Connectify software, I uninstalled it later.

I have My PC (Win7) with Netgear WGR614v7 connected by Wired LAN to Topfield 7100 Pvr and Laptop (XP Pro). My main concern is the Topfield Pvr which must download programs from IceTV Interactive for Recording. After setting it up as DHCP (reccommended by both Ice TV and Topfield) and Pinging both ways to prove connection, I logged into the Router to check Network Status. The Topfield was displayed in the Attached Devices Page of the Router. Satisfied that all was setup OK, I logged out of the Router. Later in the day, I again logged into the Router to again check the Status of the Network. The only thing showing in the Attached Devices was: My Pc - the Topfield and the Laptop, both previously present, were not displayed in the Attached Devices Page, even though they were still Connected, On, and able to be pinged. The bring them back, I have to Re Activate the Topfield connection, unplug and replug the Cable on the Laptop.
I am of the belief, that once Devices are Setup, Remain Connected. Remain ON and are available for Communication (proven by Pinging), they should at all times be visible in the Attached Devices Page of the Router.
As I am not familiar with how the Router maintains its contact with Devices, I am at a loss to understand if my belief is correct or what may be the cause of my apparrent problem.
Any advice will be most helpful. I do not particularly want to buy a new Router.

I have a Cisco Linksys E1200 router. Three computers are wired to it while my laptop connects to it wirelessly. When I look at the network topology (Network and Sharing Center->See full map), it shows that my laptop is connected to E1200 (this one has the same name as the router but different icon. The icon has an antenna. Thus, I think it is some kind of wireless device) which is connected to a switch, then a hub, then to the E1200.

Why are there three devices between the wireless router and my laptop?

A:Why so many devices between my laptop and the wireless router?

A friend currently has a Belkin wireless G router and uses a D-Link DGL-3420 gaming adapter to connect her XBox 360 to her wireless network. This configuration works fine but she did have an issue where the connection was lost and the troubleshooting tool on the Xbox 360 recommended using an 802.11a connection to avoid possible interference problems. Apparently, the wireless Xbox 360 controller she uses broadcasts at 2.4GHz, just like 802.11g.

So, I'm looking at replacing her Belkin router with one that supports 802.11a. I see 802.11n wireless routers should support 802.11a/b/g devices but I was wondering if anyone here had any "real world" experience with connecting to a 802.11n wireless router using 802.11a.

Did it work for you? Have any problems?

Thanks!

Peace...

Both my DSL modem router and a wireless surveillance system (cameras and receiver) use the 2.4 GHz frequency; of course, one inactivates the other.
Does anyone know a DSL modem router operating in another frequebcy range (fixed or adjustable)?

A:2.4 GHz for modem router and other wireless devices?

802.11a WiFi standard uses the ~5GHz frequency. These devices are considered enterprise class though and cost more than your normal wireless.

Have you tried changing the channel on your current WiFi gear? Changing it from 1 to 13 for example may be enough to make both your systems fit into the band.

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

SORRY FOR ALL THE BACKGROUND INFO

So I have had the same router for years now (Belkin f5d7623-4) and whilst its had its problems over the years its generally been okay. On my home network I have my Sony Vaio and my Asus, a ps3, both my iphone 4 and 5, my samsung tv, as well as my mum's acer netbook and her galaxy s3.

My iphone 4 is a few years old now and has for some time struggled to consistently connect and stay connected to the wifi, my asus had some problems but they were hardware related and I fixed them a couple of months ago. The acer netbook had been connecting to the wifi fine since my mum was given it when a few months ago it suddenly wouldnt connect and no matter what I did to the settings of the laptop or router it could not be solved, as my mum is not heavily reliant on technology we got her a long ethernet cable as a short-term fix. A few weeks later I wanted to use the internet functions of my samsung tv so I took the cable from the netbook as my mum wasnt there at the time. When my mum returned she complained about me having taken the cable but then found her netbook was working over the wifi again, since then it has stopped working with the wifi again. My vaio and ps3 have never suffered problems before and my 5 has only began to struggle since being water damaged.

Basically, what's happened is that after transferring my old PC's data onto my new one, and putting that one in place of my old one, therefore hooking up my modem to it, my wireless devices have been having trouble connecting to the router. Everything's hooked up fine, and it was working perfectly before, but now my devices such as my laptop and Droid Pro can SEE the router (As in connect to it and say that they are getting excellent signal strength), but when I try to open my browser, it asks as if I'm not connected to anything at all. The PC that's wired to the modem through the router works fine, however.

all 4 devices can connect perfectly. and use programs like 'VLC remote' perfectly.

but when it comes to itunes on the pc, after setting all the apropriate settings on itunes,
itunes is unable to see all 4 devices for 'wireless syncing'.

I was having issues with my old router so I got a new linksys AC1200. I have some devices that use 5.0 and they're working fine but my other devices are very sporadic and only work for maybe 30 seconds before losing connectivity then start working after another 30 seconds or so. Wired devices work fine

A:Dual band router devices work on 5 ghz but not 2.4

If you have a Windows PC with the problem ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with a screen shot see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows Vista or latter I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Identify your network if it is not obvious.

Hi,
Normally some router default is opening of some ports like http, and ftp which may be made more secured , by portforwarding the ports to unused devices ip, in one"s pc. This is the solution given by leading av, and i do not know, how to know the ips of the unused devices on my computer.

Hey guys,

Just a quick one I'm sure most could answer, I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to Wifi, and my router is kicking devices off when we have more than 4, picking and choosing which devices it will allow Wifi too. We often have 3 phones, 2 laptops and 1 PC in the house which need constant connection. What do I do to make this happen?

My Router is a D-Link: DSL-2780, I'm with Talk-Talk in the UK.

Thanks in advance!

I have a new tower (desktop computer). When it's powered on (active or sleep mode) it will boot all other devices in the house using the router (another desktop, 4 laptops, and 2 game consoles via ethernet or wifi connection - doesn't matter). The new tower does NOT have wifi and does NOT have to be connected to the router via ethernet to cause the disconnect.

Here's what the utility brought up about the tower:

Internet Provider - Comcast

Cable connection

Using a Western Digital My Net N900 router

Problem computer has norton installed.

Things I've tried:
* power cycling the router and computer
* ipconfig renew and release both wirelessly and wired
* a different command prompt - netsh followed by other stuff I could look up if necessary
* updating the drivers for the wireless connection
* uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the wireless connection
* resetting the router
*system restore to when it last worked

Recently installed a new motherboard -- ever since then I've been randomly disconnecting all users on my network -- four different computers usually. I've tried everything we can think of, including anti-spyware scans and antivirus scans, reinstalling ethernet drivers on the onboard ethernet, using a different ethernet card, releasing/renewing IP address, etc.

My friend told me to run a scan, and I removed two proccesses already but this is the update log I have for right now:

Hi,
In the past 3 days I've noticed that I periodically get randomly redirected via link bucks when browsing the internet. It was odd when it happened on my nexus 7 tablet but also has started happened on the 2 laptops that are connected to my router.
There's no specific pattern, time or website but it is certainly happening on websites that wouldn't use link bucks (Facebook/university e-mail). I have security software installed on all devices (lookout on nexus 7, MSE on windows 7 laptops).
Any advice anyone could offer would be appreciated, its getting annoying now!
Thanks!
P.s. - at the same time my nexus 7 stopped connecting to Google now with a connection error, but only when connected to my network, on other networks it works fine

A:Linkbucks redirect across all devices connected to router

Welcome aboard  Try resetting your router.... Turn the computer off.On your router, you'll find a pinhole marked "Reset".Keep pushing the hole, using a pencil, or a paperclip until all lights briefly come off and on.NOTE. Simple router disconnecting from a power source will NOT do.Restart computer and check for redirections.NOTE. You may need to re-check your router security settings, as described HERE

So I have a TP-LINK TL-WR841ND 300Mbps router and the basic problem is, that it repeatedly drops the internet connection and also the devices connected to it. But the my main computer, which is wired to the router has never had any problem, even at the time, when the wireless doesn't work. I use many os like win7, ios 5.1.1 on iPad 3rd, a samsung smart tv and a samsung smartphone with android. But as I mentioned it only happens with wireless, never with the wired computer. When the problem occurs there is no device, which can connect to the internet and to the router, except the wired one.

I've tried all of the encryptions and security methods, at the moment I use WPA2-PSK with AES (also tried with TKIP and automatic mode, and with disabled security too), but neither have helped me. Then I contacted the reseller and they gave me a new one, and said it could have had some special problem. The new one, which I'm using now, got the same problem.

Have any ideas why this problem occurs repeatedly? Or if you need more information about my devices, router or settings, please write me. Thanks in advance!

Hello,

Yesterday afternoon, my internet appeared to have gone down. I attempted to fix it in the usual way (turn it off and on) but to no avail. I assumed it must be on the ISPs end and continued on with my day.

The internet was still not working this morning, so I checked to see if it might be the router that is causing the issue. Lo and behold, I can access the internet through the modem. Great, router is bust.

Reconfigured it, I updated the firmware, and then did a series of ping tests.

Ping test to google through the ethernet was successful. Ping test to router IP address through the router was successful. Ping test to google through router was unsuccessful.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be? Just to reiterate, this is an issue across all devices (Mac, PC, iPhone/iPad, Android, PS3, etc... )

A:Router spontaneously stops working across all devices

Hopefully, you know and can still log into the router.
find the WAN side, specifically Router Status or that display that
shows:

IP Address (the public address, not 192.x.y.z)
Default Gateway (your connection to the ISP)
DHCP Server (will not be one of your lan addresses)
Subnet Mask

DNS Server
Lease Obtained
Lease Expires
if any of the first three are missing, then the modem did not feed the information to the router
OR the router did not save it.

disconnect the modem->router
power off both
wait one minute
power on the modem
connect the router (but still powered off)
when the modem is fully sync'd with the ISP
power on the router
from your computer

ping 8.8.8.8 (a ping by address)
nslookup google.com (a dns request that should resolve to an address)

ping google.com (a ping that requires nslookup to work)

Two days ago, somehow Windows lost the ability to contact any DNS server in the middle of my browsing for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, and indeed a small browser called Midori. Strangely, Steam still had the ability to connect and browse, but after I rebooted in an attempt to fix the problem, steam could no longer connect.

Chrome Error: DNS PROBE FINISHED NO INTERNET FOUND

IE Error: This page cannot be displayed.

Firefox Error: Firefox cannot find this page.

No other device in my house has this problem. All other computers can connect just fine.

Things I have tried

Rebooting.
Cycling the power on the modem/router.
Using a direct ethernet cable rather than the laptop's antenna.
manually assigning a DNS server with control panel.
Reinstalling the network driver
flushing the DNS cache
Using system restore to go back DAYS before this problem ever emerged.

All yielded no change. I would really, really rather not have to reinstall windows 8 and lose all my information. I don't have the resources currently to back everything up.

A:Formatted PC with Windows disc, no devices and cannot connect to router

Hello,
what you need are the drivers for your PC.
If it is from Dell,HP or similar go on their support page and get drivers for your PC there.
If this is self built PC, than you will need to know what are the components inside, especially network card and than download the drivers.
I suppose you will download drivers on your laptop.Put the drivers on an USB key or CD and then install them on your desktop. usually once the chipset and network card is installed, the rest you can download directly on this PC. Do not forget to install anti-virus software and do the updates.
Cheers

I'm thinking of buying a wireless router for my son who has a laptop but he ALWAYS downloads huge files (games or whatever he does) when he uses my computer so is there a way to limit the bandwidth he gets when he connects to the router through his laptop?

A:Is it possible to limit the connection speed of devices connected to a router?

Look for a wireless router with traffic shaping and QoS. From my search, a Billion 7400 has traffic shaping. Also, the Actiontec MI424WR has it as well. Here's the shot from the Actiontec configuration pages.

Hi All,
I have an issue with my wireless router that I needed some help with. To start off let me give you a bit of background...

I use a macbook at home and a pc at work and I wanted to be able to access my macbook remotely. I used RealVNC for this and had to open up port number 5900 on my router, and the local IP used was 192.168.1.4 - which is the local IP address of my macbook. I am now able to access my macbook from my pc at work.

Unfortunately as a side effect, no other device is able to access my home wifi connection anymore, not another pc, my nokia e71 or my friend's iphone. Is this a by product of the port forwarding? or is it unrelated and should I try and figure out if something else is the matter?

My macbook seems to be able to use the wifi just fine.

Would appreciate any insight on this matter.

Thanks a lot

A:Has Port Forwarding Disabled Other Devices From Accessing My Router?

I think the other devices are not able to connect not because of the port forwarding, but because you went ahead and gave a static IP address to your macbook, The 192.168.1.4, and all the other devices for some reason also want this IP addresss. Try assigning your macbook to a different IP.

-Here is my setup so far. I have a vista machine with 2 lan cards, one from motherboard, one on pci. The lan from motherboard is connected to the WAN port on my router. I have alltel wireless internet that uses ICS through that. The lan card on my pci bus is connected to a LAN port on the same router. When i am not using ics i disable the lan on my motherboard and vice versa. I am using the second LAN on my pci bus that is connected to one of the LAN ports on my router so my computer can use MCE and DIRECTV2PC. I have another line connected to a LAN port on the same router going to a switch which is connected to my 360 and my directv receiver.
-Here is the problem. Say im using DIRECTV2PC and the xbox gets turned on, what happens is i lose connection to my directv and my computer only sees the xbox and vice versa. I am confused on why that is, it should see both at the same time and not lose connection to any one of them right?

A:I lose connection to some devices on my switch connected to my router.

whoa man never heard of that kind of set up before. try connecting your internet to the WAN port on the router and connecting the rest of your stuff to the inputs on the router. its a little less complicated this way.
sounds like your computer is controlling your internet and getting confused... hope this info is usefull.

Hi,

I just bought a Mentor ADSL Router (sorry no model number than I can see).

I've plugged the ADSL cable in between the wall and the router, and the network cable between the Router and the PC. The PC has on board Ethernet on the mobo, and it is enabled in my BIOS. The router is DC powerred, and the only light I can get to come on is the POWER one, which is always on. No other lights show up, and the PC won't connect to the router. It always has the message "Network cable unplugged" beneath the LAN icon in Control Panel. I've tried switching the network cable, and plugging it into different ports on the router and restarting after doing so.

The manual is a bit pants and doesn't help, just says to press Quick Setup on the Driver CD menu, but this button loads nothing (although it shows up in Task Manager, it never arrives on screen or does anything).

I've successfully connected it via a USB port but, even then the Drivers will not install (even manually selecting them) and Windows will only recognise it an Unknown Device.

PC is running Windows XP Home.

Any suggestions?
Tunga

After I had to use ATT tech support to get my dsl working again.. which they did , by doing a re-set of my dsl modem.

Now my router won't connect.
I see security icon, light bright green,
I see wired icon bright green,
I see router icon, bright green,
I see a flashing icon for my modem flashing red.
The internet icon is doing NOTHING at all.

I've tried unplugging the router completely, all night .. then rebooting.. after reconnecting the power cord, the router cable and the DSL cable.. so far I'm just stuck as to what I should do next.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I have HP DV6 1335 laptop. It comes with windows 7 home premium and realtek nic PCIe FE(It might be 8169). I am trying to connect it to netgear router using wire lan, its not able to connect. When i run diagnostics, it says to restart the router. I restart it and click the check again it says "local area does not have valid ipconfig". But i have 2 other laptops (a dv4(vista) and a lenovo(xp) connected to the router through wire lan). When i run ipconfig the dv6 ip address starts with 169... ,no gate way or subnet mask for the nic. But my network is 192.168.... as both lenovo and dv4 has 192.168... addresses(auto detect). I disconnected the cable and connected it with a desktop running xp and it worked fine. I tried disabling ipv6 or giving manual ip also but still the problem persists. The dv6 can connect using wireless but i want to connect using wire cable so wireless solution is of no use

thnx

I have a fractional T1 connection coming into my home. The way that my network is setup right now has my servers and Linksy routers connected into an Intel switch and from the switch to the T1. However, I am wanting to redesign the network (eliminate old/useless equipment and add some new stuff) by taking a BEFW11S4 router straight into the T1 and then having the switch and everything else plug into the router. I have been trying all day to make this happen but no matter what I do I can't get anything to connect to the internet when I have the router straight into the T1. Everything works fine when everything goes through the switch to the T1, but not with the router. Is there anything that could be causing this problem? I have all of my business information stored on servers and I can't risk having them offline for very long, so I can't simply unplug everything and figure this out the hard way. Thanks.
