Router is broadcasting but no devices can connect

Q: Router is broadcasting but no devices can connect

Hello,

I have a D-Link DIR-652 router, and I can see that it is broadcasting but I cannot connect through my laptop, tablet, or phone. Sometimes it will let me connect but other times it says it is unable to. I can connect when I plug into the router through a cable. I'm doing that now, and I did an ipconfig/all in case it's helpful to see that:

My wireless network was working fine as of last night. This morning I couldn't connect. For some reason my router isn't broadcasting a SSID anymore. Tried restarting computer, powering router off and on, and also resetting the router. None of that worked. I cannot connect to the router's default ip of 192.168.1.1 either.

My router is an Asus RT-AC66U. I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit.

Suggestions? Thanks for your help!

My wireless devices are having a hard time connecting though my router. They see the router and can connect to it but cannot get on the internet. When I go into my router and check Wireless Status to see connected devices the window is empty. Usually if I reboot my router some of my devices will connect but if I leave them idle for any amount of time the connection is dropped. Suggestions. I have Dell 530 desktop running Vist Home Premium and the router is Dlink Dir 615. The desktop has no issues connecting to the internet as it is connected through LAN port

A:Devices can see router but cannot connect

Please show for the Dell 530 and, if any of the other devices are running Windows, the following ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Basically, what's happened is that after transferring my old PC's data onto my new one, and putting that one in place of my old one, therefore hooking up my modem to it, my wireless devices have been having trouble connecting to the router. Everything's hooked up fine, and it was working perfectly before, but now my devices such as my laptop and Droid Pro can SEE the router (As in connect to it and say that they are getting excellent signal strength), but when I try to open my browser, it asks as if I'm not connected to anything at all. The PC that's wired to the modem through the router works fine, however.

A:Devices sees Router but will not connect

can we see the following form one of the wireless pc when connected and working and the repeat ALL the tests when it disconnects

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Just recently my Lenovo laptop w/Windows 8.1 will not connect to my Vizio wireless router but it was fine a few months ago. This laptop will connect to my AT&T modem/router.
All my other wifi devices connect to both routers. The only one that does not is the Lenovo laptop with Windows 8.1. I suspect the last windows update screw up my connection. My laptop will connect to Vizio router wired. Every time Microsoft updates I get problems. Vizio router is xwr100. Any suggestions?

Please help me

A:Formatted PC with Windows disc, no devices and cannot connect to router

Hello,
what you need are the drivers for your PC.
If it is from Dell,HP or similar go on their support page and get drivers for your PC there.
If this is self built PC, than you will need to know what are the components inside, especially network card and than download the drivers.
I suppose you will download drivers on your laptop.Put the drivers on an USB key or CD and then install them on your desktop. usually once the chipset and network card is installed, the rest you can download directly on this PC. Do not forget to install anti-virus software and do the updates.
Cheers

Evening all !

This is is driving me bonkers !

I recently changed the wireless access password on my BT Infinity router and disconnected every device - including 4 phones, 2 iPads a laptop and an aging Vista PC.

I've changed all the passwords on all the devices and they all connect again to the hub under the new password - except the PC !

The PC connects via a Belkin USB adapter.
The wireless network appears - highlight, click connect - says getting information from BTHub, eventually asks for the password - enter my new password - and immediately get Windows cannot connect.

Things I've tried :

Rebooted BTHub
Rebooted PC (several times)
Control Panel > Network and sharing centre > Manage Wireless Networks  and deleted network profiles.
Deleted the USB adapter and reinstalled.

The Belkin device is working OK as I can connect to an non-secure BT Hotspot on the PC and it's blue light flashes (as normal) when communicating with the BTHub.

Any advice greatly appreciated - this is the Old machine I've dedicated to the kids for You Tube etc. - they ain't happy !!!!!!!!!

Many thanks

Blue Sierra

A:Changed wireless router password for security - all devices connect except PC !

Was the driver downloaded from the Belkin site? Right click the adapter in Device Manager and select Properties. Under the Details tab select Hardware IDs in the dropdown box. Copy and paste the first line in your next post. There may be a later driver available, especially if an intel chipset is used.

What is the model number of the Belkin? Did you change the encryption type on the router? i.e. from WPA to WPA2? TPIK to AES?

I have 2 laptops, an ipad, and 2 smart phones using a dlink router. All devices connect to the router beautifully but will not access the Internet.
Both laptops will access the internet when hardwired to the modem via Ethernet cable.
Rebooted the modem, rest the router, still no connection.
Reset router and one laptop can access the Internet. The other one can't.
ipad and 2 smart phones will not access the Internet even after the reboot of both the modem and router.

It would seem that one laptop at a time can access the Internet through the router with a lot of rebooting and resetting of the router.

I spent a long while on the phone with my Internet Provider and they were no help.
Any suggestions sure would be appreciated.

This is a new problem as all devices have formerly worked great.

Hello, I'm working with a netgear wireless router, that is connected to a desktop ethernet thingamabob, lol, and has two laptops connected via wireless. Up until the last two days, I have had no issues with this product working. Considering its range, and our demand on it, I felt satisfied. However over the last 24 hours or so it began dropping connection to all computers to the internet. This morning, there is no broadcast light and after attempting to reinstall/setup wizard, I am lost as to what to do. I suppose it's possible it took a **** and no long works???? But I think its more likely that there has been a firmware upgrade of some sort that i can not figure out how to access/download and now I simply don't have a working router. Ok, I'm rambling and that's not helpful to anyone. What do you need to know and what do i need to do to fix this problem? Thanks!

As it says on the tin really! I am an absolute non technically minded person so have no idea how to even start trying to fix this problem. A few weeks ago our router quite happily let multiple devices attach wirelessly to the internet at once but in the last couple of weeks it has started only allowing one device at a time to connect to the internet. If say my partners work laptop is connected then our home laptop/iPad can see the wireless router but it will not allow them to connect to the internet anymore. Can anyone help me to try and sort this please...I can use my computer for basic things but am in no way technically minded so please be very clear and simple with any help you are able to give.

TIA

I have a Belkin G Wireless Router that has been working perfectly for about a year now. This morning I noticed it kept dropping the connection to the internet. Internet connectivity is fine from a computer hardwired to the cable modem (which I'm using to post this thread).

I disconnected power and pushed the reset button on the modem, which had no effect on the problem. Powered down then repowered the Router. No effect.

Next I pushed the reset button on the Router. I'm a complete novice when it comes to networking and didn't realize pushing the reset button would delete all the settings and security configurations. Belkin Technical Support has walked me through the initial set up a couple of times (out of warranty so they can't help anymore), so I knew enough to go to the router set up page on the internet (by typing in an IP address).

After logging in, I managed to rename the router to what it was before (SSID), set the channel to what I had it on before, and I think I've have basic security back up. I Set it up as it was before, WEP 64 Bit (recommended by Belkin Te... Read more

A:Router Stops Broadcasting

When the problem arises can your wireless adapter still see other networks and just your has disappeared? If that is the case it does sound like a malfunctioning router. You can try updating the router to the newest firmware in case it happens to be bad mojo in the router but otherwise probably time for a new router.

I'm having a problem with my Netgear WRN2500 router. It doesn't seem to be broadcasting the SSID; at least that's my best guess. No devices pick up the wireless signal(iPod, PS4, laptop), ethernet works fine. The router login page says that everything is working correctly. I've tried the factory reset multiple times to no avail.

Things that I notice that seem to be off are the LED below the wifi on/off button never changes when I use it. It is always unlit. While other LED's will change when using the wifi on/off button

Also I am unable to upgrade my firmware from 1.0.0.18NA to 1.0.0.24NA. It always says i'm trying to use the wrong firmware package. I have tried the link on the router login page, and downloading a .zip of the firmware and uploading it myself. I get the same error report about it being the wrong firmware package either way.

One more thing, after performing restore factory settings. The default SSID and password had a character changed from what it was supposed to be. A 5 in the SSID was now a =, and a 3 in the password changed to a {. Not sure why this happnend because those aren't the factory setting it came with

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Greeting, I'm having problems setting up a ICS route in win 7 the same procedure worked fine in XP.

I have a dual boot win xp pro, win 7 pro x64 system.

The internet chain consists of a 3g modem (ics) <-> gigbit nic ip (192.168.0.1 in XP) (192.168.137.1 in win7 pro)<-> wan port of a dd-wrt v2.2 firmware linksys54g.

There is a second gigbit nic linked to a switch.

I used this arrangement on XP for quite some time with no issues. Laptops could connect wirelessly through the router to the internet. ICS in XP would assign an IP to the router wan port in the the 192.168.0.xxx range.

In Win 7 this doesn't work the wan port is assigned 0.0.0.0 by ICS.

Booting back into XP and it works fine. This leads me to believe either the ICS dhcp isn't assigning an IP or something in Win 7 is blocking it. I've tried more things than I want to mention. Anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong?

Thanks DArt

Perhaps IPv6 in win 7, or firewall AV. If you are using homegroup and IPv6 in win 7, create a new network connection using workgroup (uses ipv4)

For a while now my router has been playing up, I've not been able to connect to it via wireless and just been using my ethernet cable as I couldn't be bothered to try and work it out.

Today I reset my router twice, back to factory default settings, but in doing this, I now seem to have three different networks coming from my router, one called 'joewireless', one called 'JBSpeedTouch5F775D' and one called 'SpeedTouch5F775D'. I've just now stuck with the default name of the router (the last one), and yet the other two seem to still be broadcasting as networks. The first two allow me to access my router, however no the internet, but the third one does (which it is currently called (SpeedTouch5F775D)).

So anyway, can someone provide me with some assistance as to stopping my router broadcasting these extra two networks? Or is it possibly just Windows (i'm using windows 7 btw) still thinking that there these networks still exist?

Any assistance much appreciated,
Cheers, -joe.

I have a laptop with windows 7 (64bit). I've never had any trouble connecting to wireless networks but for some reason I can't connect here.

I've added the network on "Manage Wireless Networks" and on the "Set up a connection or Network" on the "Network and Sharing Center".
I've tried to connect to "Other Network" and setting the SSID and password.
I've also copied the network setting from another laptop able to connect to the network and ran the wizard from a usb pen.
I've copied the name and password from a file to make sure I'm not making any typo.
Still it does not connect to it. I get a "Windows was unable to connect to...". troubleshooting resets network adapter but it does nothing.
I'm staying in a friends place for the week, the wireless is shared throughout the house (8 tenants) so I don't have access to the router settings (nor would I want to change them as I'm a guest). People usually have no problem in accessing the network and I was able to add it on my phone.
Would appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this problem.
Thank you in advance

Yesterday my Netgear router stopped working and broadcasting wireless so I disconnected it entirely. I reset it before throwing it away. The SSID it had was a unique name that nobody else would have. I bought a new D-Link Router and set it up today with a new SSID. For some reason, the old SSID is STILL broadcasting even though the router is in the garbage and disconnected. I've tried resetting everything, deleting it from the list of available networks on all computers, and it still comes back. I can connect to it with the WEP password and it still lets me connect to the internet and has around 3 bars of connectivity on average.

I used iStumbler and walked around inside and outside of the house. The connection is strongest inside the house so it can't be a neighbor. What is going on?

Yo! As the title says I have in my possession an Asus RT-N56U Dual Band Wireless Router. A friend gave it to me, since the 2.4 GHz Band stopped working. He says that the Antenna could have melted because he tried resetting the device, upgrading its firmware, and verifying that the Router's page had the spectrum enabled.

I also tried those steps to verify it to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

A:Asus RT-N56U (Wireless Router) isn't broadcasting 2.4GHz Band

1st, check that the 2.4 antennae is on and that the 2.4 SSID is broadcast in the wireless setup page of the router.

If that all good, you could try to update the firmware

So my girlfriend and I just inherited her dad's Netgear WNDR3700v3. They said the power switch on their surge protector got cycled one day and suddenly the router stopped broadcasting its SSID. After swapping out the router they still had various wireless connectivity / general internet issues, so they got their ISP out and found that specific issue was on their side... I'm not really network savi, for whatever reason, but I know that SSID broadcasting has to be on and the Wireless Radio has to be on. Both boxes are checked for both bands in the router setup and the indicator light is solid-on on the front panel of the router, yet I still can not detect the signal on our phones. What's really strange is that after putting a hardline from the router to my computer I can connect via my computer's WiFi... What could it be?

Thanks in advance.

I have been unable to connect to anything on my wired network, for about the last week. I don't remember making any changes however, I just became unable to connect.

I having done a little troubleshooting.

1. I can connect to the shares of my Windows Home Server if I use the IP address. The name does not resolve.

2. Flushed DNS and restarting DNS server. Flushing DNS works on one client, to allow browsing by the name & restarting DNS works on the other. However neither works after a restart.

3. Only my Wifi clients are experiencing this issue. My wired clients, desktops, PS3, Xbox 360, and Boxee can connect perfectly.

This issue is not limited to my server. I can't connect to shares on my desktop, nor print to my wired printer.

I have a wireless network that is WPA encrypted and does not broadcast the SSID.

I work for an IT company and part of my job is to service 2 different networks.

I have two HP 8510p laptops. Both are running Windows XP sp2, but each has the OS installed from a different image that is specific to that company.

I have configured both laptops for the wireless network but under the network's properties screen only one of my laptops have the option to "connect even if this network is not broadcasting", on the other laptop this is not present.

I have admin rights on both machines and I desperately need to enable this on the other machine because of a project I must finish by Sunday (July 5, 2009).

Enabling the wireless network to broadcast the SSID is not an option.

Is there a registry option or something that needs to be changed to enable the "connect even if this network is not broadcasting" option?

What can I do to make this available?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

A:"connect even if this network is not broadcasting" is not available for me

are both HP laptops using the same wireless network configuration programs? seems odd that they both have xp sp2 and do not have the same ops. system features.

did you try and use Windows wireless network config. to do what you are trying to do??? and the wireless network you are trying to connect to is at work or home where the ssid is not being broadcast??

are you trying to use the Windows XP wireless network setup wizard or the new Connection Wizard?

I was trying to make my sister-in-law's wireless connection secure (they've had wireless set up for awhile unsecured), and all seemed to go well until magically, it didn't. It allowed me to set up a password -WPA2/Personal, it was fine, other devices (ipod Touch and another laptop) connected to the network by putting in the right key. HOWEVER, the original laptop, now wants no part of connecting to this network. It finds the network, but doesn't even let me get to a stage at which I need to enter the WPA key. It automatically says it can't connect, and is very useless when I hit "Diagnose the problem". I am only marginally less clueless than the people that asked for my help, so please don't get too technical on me. I have spent hours trying to figure out what the problem is, and though I know it's obviously something with the computer's setting, I don't know what that is.

When I go to the Network and Sharing Center, rather than being a three-way "map", it's two - the computer, then the internet. There is nothing (ie, router) in between. I have no idea how to get that step back in there.

I have connected the router to the laptop directly, and an internet connection does come up, so it isn't an ISP issue. The wireless does work with the devices mentioned above, as well as my own laptop, just not the central laptop.

I understand it may be a TCP/IP issue (or something like that), but I don't kn... Read more

That IPCONFIG shows a direct connection to a broadband modem. If that's when you're connected to the router, something is amiss.

no, that will not work as it is only a 'wire connector' and not a signal converter.

here's how; do not put anything into the RJ11 slot on the ADSL WiFi router.

connect an ethernet cable from a LAN slot on the router connected to the phone line
TO another lan slot on the WiFi router. This will cause the WiFi router to act very much
link a switch. Just be sure the DHCP service (on this device) is disabled and only the primary router has DHCP active.

You will still need to setup the WiFi configuration (but do so ONLY with a wired connection to it).

This is the idea, I have DVR for CCTV and I need to configure it for port forwarding, and since it has only LAN connection it is not possible to connect in pocket wifi, so i used to have a wireless router since it has a LAN connection. But I do not know how to do this connection as the wireless router to be a bridge in my pocket wifi to DVR, Anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

A:How to connect pocket wifi to wireless router, to connect the dvr for cctv?

I'm not at all sure I understand. Are you trying to use the wireless router as a Wireless Bridge (to connect to the pocket wifi via wireless and the DVR via ethernet)? If so, does the router have wireless bridge (or AP Client) mode?

I have a lenovo u160 running windows 7, a couple of days ago it seemed my computer was infected with something, giving a series of security warnings I had not seen before (not av security suite). It slowed the computer down for a few minutes.

After closing these messages, there seemed to be no problem, but then my computer was no longer connect to the internet. It connects to our router/wireless network, but not to the internet.

I tried resetting and unplugging the router and the modem, but still no luck. We have two other computers on the same network that are connecting to both the network and the internet.

I tried running rkill and malwarebytes twice and no malicious items were detected.

I restored the computer to an earlier point (2-3 days earlier)

On the toolbar in the bottom right of the taskbar, it shows a 5 white signal bars, with a "!" inside a yellow triangle.
If I click on the network button it states it is "connected" to the network. It describes the connection as "excellent" (4-5/5 bars).

Above the display of the available networks, it states

"currently connected to:
Unidentified network
No Internet access"

I am not computer savvy and have not run into this problem before. Thanks for your time and help.

Hi,

I have been racking my brain for ages over this to no avail.

I am a professional designer with a digital press (canon imagePress C1)
What i want to do is connect the printer to a router and then some how connect that router to the main router where the internet comes in Wirelessly.

I cant plug a computer into the printer. The computers are upstairs and the printer is downstairs. There is also no way of connecting the printer to the main router(A)

My general basic idea is connect the printer to a router(B) via small ethernet cable.

Then me being optimistic Router(B) wirelessly sees router(A) so then I can print to it wirelessly from upstairs.

I hope this makes sense?!?!?!?

Thanks

Hey all,

I'm trying to connect my wireless router to my wired router.

Ideally I want the following: internet--> A --> 3 PCs + B -->itouch+ps3 +laptops

A: Gnet External ADSL modem with 4-port switch bb0055 (note: this is a modem/wired router)
B: Trendnet Wireless router tew-639gr

All 3 PCs have internet, so i'm sure my wired router is working properly. Using an ethernet cable, I've connected a Lan port in my Wireless router to a Lan port in my Wired router. My itouch, ps3, and laptops can connect to my wireless but I'm not getting any internet. I've also been able to access my wireless settings and change a couple of things.

From what I've read online, In B, I need to turn off the LAN DHCP and change my LAN IP Address. I've tried a couple of things but it still isn't working. Also what should I set my WAN settings to in my wireless router?

Thanks,

First I would like to say hello to everyone in the community as this is my first post. I would like to set up Linksys wireless router(wrt160n) with a Dlink wired router(DLR-604),The wireless would be the host router and I would like to isolate the wired router from that network,to protect my main computer's(2computer's plus network printer) from from my children s and friend's machines I connect to the wireless or wired ports on the Linksys. Thanks in advance, any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated .Cheers

A:Solved: Connect wireless router and wired router

This should be pretty easy. Just connect the D-Link router's WAN port to one of the Linksys router's LAN ports. The computers connected to the D-Link router will be isolated from the Linksys connected computers by the D-Link router's NAT firewall.

Can I just connect a new wireless N router to the Z100G? If so, would it then be best to connect all the network computers to the new router either via wired or wireless?

Hello.

I own two routers - D-Link DSL-504 (ADSL, not wireless) and D-Link DIR-635 (wireless).

The set-up used to be like this:
- Internet (ADSL) cable pluged in DSL-504 router
- PC connected to DSL-504 via Ethernet port
- DIR-635 connected to DSL-504 (Ethernet port to 'Internet' port) - DSL-504 works as a 'modem'
- Laptop wirelessly connected to DIR-635

Everything has worked (note: it wasn't me who set this up).

Unfortunatelly I have reseted the DIR-635 (wireless router) because of some troubles. Now the wireless router doesn't connect to the Internet. I can connect either computer via cable with the first router and it works like a dream. Computers can also see the DIR-365 router when connected to it via cable, but it does not see the Internet.

I've switched the setup on and off several times. Cables work. Computers work, they can see Internet from other sources.

I guess I need to configure the wireless router in some certain way, but I really have no idea, how.

I'd be grateful for your help.

A:Solved: Router cannot connect to Internet (via another router used as a modem)

Probably IP Address conflict as both D-Links would usually use 192.168.0.1 for default internal (LAN) IP.

You would need to change the LAN IP address of the DIR-615 to another subnet such as 192.168.2.1 for a modem LAN port to router WAN (Internet) port connection unless the DIR-615 can be set as an access point. Will need to check the User Manual to see. Will pull up a PDF and check.

Another option would be to set up using the following method by John Will.
Connecting two soho routers in a network
Tutorial from Johnwill from the Networking Forum

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

My main concern is the Topfield Pvr which must download programs from IceTV Interactive for Recording. After setting it up as DHCP (reccommended by both Ice TV and Topfield) and Pinging both ways to prove connection, I logged into the Router to check Network Status. The Topfield was displayed in the Attached Devices Page of the Router. Satisfied that all was setup OK, I logged out of the Router. I am trying to build a setup to read a lot of smart cards.

I have a dedicated USB controller card with 4 USB port which each should be able to run up to the 128 USB devices.

On 1 powered USB hub with 10 ports I have connected 6 USB smart card readers and 3 other powered USB
hubs with each 10 USB smart card readers so a total of 36 smart card readers.

This connected gives a total of 42 USB devices (36 readers, 4 hubs, 1 mice, 1 keyboard).

We have checked the power setup and the powered USBs is providing fine.

It runs without any problems at all on any of the USB controller ports.

Connecting one more USB device of any kind results in it not loading. A reboot with the unit connected gives a random USB unit failing but the removing any other will bring that one up.

So it seems like somewhere theres a blocker at 42 USB devices any who know if there is such a thing in windows?

Hi,

Using Windows 10 I've set up a VPN server at home. The idea is not to hide my IP, but to use my own network IP when at work etc. Hence I do not use VPN providers or similar.

I think it uses PPTP (?) connection. After upgrading my iPad and iPhone to iOS 10 this connection type is removed and I do no longer have access to my VPN network.

iOS 10 allows the following VPN types:

IKEv2
IPSec
L2TP

Is it possible to set up a new VPN connection using of these connection types instead?

How do I do this when I have a minimum of computer knowledge...?

I have a Huawei modem and a Cisco Linksys E2500 Wifi Router.

Hello Everyone,

My roommate and I recently installed WiFi in our apartment, but since the beginning 3 devices have consistently been able to connect and 2 have consistently not been able to connect.
-----

DEVICES

Connecting:

-My Lenovo Thinkpad
-Roommate's HP 2000 Notebook PC
-Roommate's HP Compaq desktop

Not Connecting:

-My HP Pavillion laptop
-My Dell Precision desktop

All devices are running versions of Windows.

SYMPTOMS

On the HP Pavillion laptop (Windows 7), when I enter the password to connect to Wifi, I just get the message, "Could not connect to [network name]." This message seems to pop up too quickly, as if the computer didn't really have to think before rejecting the attempt. It seems like it took even less time than when you simply enter a wrong WiFi password on any given computer, which leads me to think that the HP didn't really try to establish the connection.

On the Dell Precision desktop (Windows 10), the problem is stranger: I have apparently connected to the network, but I still have no internet access; so when I look at the network in the queue, it says "Secured, no internet."

Also, I repeat that the problem is consistent, not sporadic. All devices consistently either work or don't.

POTENTIAL CAUSES

1. Signal strength: Definitely not--it is strong throughout the apartment.
2. Versions of Windows: Probably not. My non-connecting laptop and desktop ... Read more

Bit of an odd problem here, hoping someone could offer solutions until I have access to the router settings.
So, I just moved into the 3rd floor of a house here in Boston. I have a desktop, and so I have always used ethernet cables. Unfortunately, the router is on the second floor of the home here, and it's impossible for me to run a cable, so I went out and purchased a wireless adapter (netgear n300). The adapter is great, not a problem. The problem is, when scanning for networks, I can see his router, which is using WEP. I connect, but it refuses to acquire an ip. I can connect to other networks fine, just not the one I need. The man who lives downstairs won't be home for a few hours, so I won't have access to the router until then. I have tried to get to the router from my desktop, but 192.168.0.1/1.1 don't seem to be working, so I have no idea what the default ip could be. Are there any other possible explanations for why this could be happening? Also, what should I do in the router settings when I get access later on tonight?

Any help is severely appreciated!

A friend currently has a Belkin wireless G router and uses a D-Link DGL-3420 gaming adapter to connect her XBox 360 to her wireless network. This configuration works fine but she did have an issue where the connection was lost and the troubleshooting tool on the Xbox 360 recommended using an 802.11a connection to avoid possible interference problems. Apparently, the wireless Xbox 360 controller she uses broadcasts at 2.4GHz, just like 802.11g.

So, I'm looking at replacing her Belkin router with one that supports 802.11a. I see 802.11n wireless routers should support 802.11a/b/g devices but I was wondering if anyone here had any "real world" experience with connecting to a 802.11n wireless router using 802.11a.

Did it work for you? Have any problems?

I have a Cisco Linksys E1200 router. Three computers are wired to it while my laptop connects to it wirelessly. When I look at the network topology (Network and Sharing Center->See full map), it shows that my laptop is connected to E1200 (this one has the same name as the router but different icon. The icon has an antenna. Thus, I think it is some kind of wireless device) which is connected to a switch, then a hub, then to the E1200.

Why are there three devices between the wireless router and my laptop?

I have a Linksys RT31P2 router which seems to be acting funny. What happens is it randomly seems to assign my pc different IP addresses. I have it set to hand out a max of 50 addresses (100 - 149) and my pc has always been .100, but for some reason yesterday it assigned it .134. Both my DSL modem router and a wireless surveillance system (cameras and receiver) use the 2.4 GHz frequency; of course, one inactivates the other.
Does anyone know a DSL modem router operating in another frequebcy range (fixed or adjustable)?

A:2.4 GHz for modem router and other wireless devices?

802.11a WiFi standard uses the ~5GHz frequency. These devices are considered enterprise class though and cost more than your normal wireless.

Have you tried changing the channel on your current WiFi gear? Changing it from 1 to 13 for example may be enough to make both your systems fit into the band.

SORRY FOR ALL THE BACKGROUND INFO

So I have had the same router for years now (Belkin f5d7623-4) and whilst its had its problems over the years its generally been okay. On my home network I have my Sony Vaio and my Asus, a ps3, both my iphone 4 and 5, my samsung tv, as well as my mum's acer netbook and her galaxy s3.

My iphone 4 is a few years old now and has for some time struggled to consistently connect and stay connected to the wifi, my asus had some problems but they were hardware related and I fixed them a couple of months ago. The acer netbook had been connecting to the wifi fine since my mum was given it when a few months ago it suddenly wouldnt connect and no matter what I did to the settings of the laptop or router it could not be solved, as my mum is not heavily reliant on technology we got her a long ethernet cable as a short-term fix. A few weeks later I wanted to use the internet functions of my samsung tv so I took the cable from the netbook as my mum wasnt there at the time. When my mum returned she complained about me having taken the cable but then found her netbook was working over the wifi again, since then it has stopped working with the wifi again. My vaio and ps3 have never suffered problems before and my 5 has only began to struggle since being water damaged.

SORRY FOR ALL THE BACKGROUND INFO

About 3 days ago I was in my kitchen where the wifi barely reaches and therefore paid no attention when my vaio lost connection and wouldnt regain it. It... Read more

I have a Medialink Bluetooth dongle that I am unable to get to work with all my bluetooth devices. I have the drivers installed and everything seems as if it should be functioning properly. However, I am not able to pair my two Android devices or my Turtle Beach PX5 headset. I was able to connect with my printer so I'm sure the device itself is working properly. I'm just not sure what I am doing wrong with my other devices. Thanks for the help.

I know it's not the devices because if I keep turning my router off and on it will work eventually but when reset then something else can't connect.

USB: you're supposed to be able to connect 100+ devices.

Erm... from my experience, when you connect multiple devices altogether, connected via different hubs: some will just stop working and not respond.

I've found that when this happens, if you randomly plug things in and out then you can get the one you want to work... or just do a reboot or something.

What am I missing? I'm sure I must be doing something wrong.

Is the secret to use powered USB hubs?

Thanks

I can't connect to the internet on my laptop for some reason - right now I am on safe mode and the internet is working, however it does sometimes lose the connection on safe mode too. All other devices, such as other laptops, phones and kindles can connect to the internet with ease, so I am so confused! I have run different anti virus checks and they have all found nothing. I'm not sure if this is worth saying - but my laptops battery needs to be replaced so maybe that has something to do with it?

I've recently upgraded my laptop from vista home premium to windows 7 ultimate and ever since I haven't been able to connect any usb devices. So I checked in device manager and all the usb ports have yellow exclamation points on them and according to device manager this is the problem 'Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)'. I've searched the internet and tried deleting the upper and lower filter registry files, but that doesn't seem to work, any other ideas?

A:Cannot connect any usb devices in windows 7

Hi, go to start search and type devmgmt.msc press enter. Device manager will open, navigate to Universal serial bus controllers, right click on all you see and for each one select "uninstall" if prompted (you should not be) DO not select to uninstall the drivers. Reboot windows will reinstall all devices.

A little advice to those that might read this "upper and lower class filters" if you right click on say USB root hub and select properties then the "details tab" you can expand the "device description" this will show if filters are installed plus heaps of other useful info.

Hi

In my home there are two desktops (the main one is hooked up to the router) four tablets, two laptops, two Roku boxes, and three phones that are all connected to my Belkin Router. All of a sudden the only device that will connect to the Router is the main desktop (I'm hoping it won't conk out on me too). On all the devices you can see the network but it won't connect. I want to say that this occurred after I renewed and reinstalled my Norton Security program on the computer but I'm not 100% sure that it started after that, maybe 85% sure.

What could be the reason for this and how do I fix it? The tablets, laptops, and phones all connect just fine to the internet outside of the home so I know it isn't the devices.

Thanks!

Oh I am a complete tech novice so please give very detailed directions as I have no idea about IP address, DNS or anything else to do with computers. I basically know turn it on and use it no back of the house stuff. Sorry.

Thanks

Angela

so no devices will connect to your router with wireless - is that correct ?

whats the exact model of the belkin and how old is it
have you switched OFF and left off for 15 mins
then turned back on

does it have any lights on the front - if so is there one for wireless and is it on ?

Hi,
I have just purchased a used Dell Inspiron 1525. Unfortunately I haven't been able to use it. Everytime I try and connect a usb device, it asks to check for the device's software but it won't install any devices without the internet being connected. Every time I plug one in, an dail up internet connection page pops up and as soon as I close it, it says that the computer was unable to install device. However I use a usb modem for my internet, so it isn't able to unpack and install on the laptop. Its not just the modem that won't install, its all USB sticks. If I let the internet connection page stay up it will just spend lots of time trying to install the device but won't and as soon as I close the internet connection box it instantly says device installation fail. Its running on Vista Home Premium.
The person I bought it off said she had a hard time getting all of her documents and files off without wiping vista too, so I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it.
I really have no idea at all in how to fix this. Any help would be very much appreciated!!

Thanks,
Vaughan

Recently I bought a TP-Link WR841N router and, unaware of what it needed, there had to be an ethernet cable coming from the main router (BT Homehub 3) for it to work. Is there any way I can connect these two wirelessly? I don't mind whatever way I connect it to my PC.

A:Connect router wirelessly to main router

Why do you need the additional TP-Link router - is the BT hub not a combined N modem/ router ? A bit more detail of your setup would help understand what you're trying to achieve...

Hi all

A friend of mine currently has a wired network connected to the internet via a router. He has gone out and bought a wireless router already and he wants to connect a couple of machine and a laptop to the wireless router. I know he woulod have been better with a AP (access Point) but what i would like to know is if it is possible to connect his new wireless router to the wired one somehow. Any advice is greatly appreaciated...Cheers

A:Can i connect a Wireless Router to a wired router

Very simple:

Connecting two SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

Please forgive me if this isn't the right area of the forum I should ask this. I'm not really tech savvy when it comes to router stuff, so I'm also going to explain this as best as I can, so sorry if I'm not as thorough as I possibly can be.

I just got Verizon Fios and I'm wondering if I can connect it to my old router. Basically I'm trying to do this because my office is at one area in the house(where the Fios modem is) and on the other side is my media PC and game consoles.

Now I have enough cable to go from point A to point B, but it's only one cable and I have several things I'd like to hook up.

Hopefully someone here can help me because,I don't want to go buy a ton of ethernet cord and I'm not looking to spend any more money buying a wireless bridge.

My old router is a D-Link WBR-2310.

Thanks.

A:Can I Connect my old router with with my new Fios modem/router?

I disabled DHCP in my d-link router and I'm now able to connect to the internet on my PC. I plugged a cable that was in a LAN port on my fios modem/router into a LAN port on my D-Link router then plugged my PC into the D-Link modem.

My only problem is that when I plug in my Xbox 360, It won't connect(It will though if I just plug it right into my Fios modem/router).

Thanks.

Hello,

Yesterday afternoon, my internet appeared to have gone down. I attempted to fix it in the usual way (turn it off and on) but to no avail. I assumed it must be on the ISPs end and continued on with my day.

The internet was still not working this morning, so I checked to see if it might be the router that is causing the issue. Lo and behold, I can access the internet through the modem. Great, router is bust.

Reconfigured it, I updated the firmware, and then did a series of ping tests.

Ping test to google through the ethernet was successful. Ping test to router IP address through the router was successful. Ping test to google through router was unsuccessful.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be? Just to reiterate, this is an issue across all devices (Mac, PC, iPhone/iPad, Android, PS3, etc... )

A:Router spontaneously stops working across all devices

Hopefully, you know and can still log into the router.
find the WAN side, specifically Router Status or that display that
shows:

IP Address (the public address, not 192.x.y.z)
Default Gateway (your connection to the ISP)
DHCP Server (will not be one of your lan addresses)
Subnet Mask

DNS Server
Lease Obtained
Lease Expires
if any of the first three are missing, then the modem did not feed the information to the router
OR the router did not save it.

disconnect the modem->router
power off both
wait one minute
power on the modem
connect the router (but still powered off)
when the modem is fully sync'd with the ISP
power on the router
from your computer

ping 8.8.8.8 (a ping by address)
nslookup google.com (a dns request that should resolve to an address)

ping google.com (a ping that requires nslookup to work)

If you have a Windows PC with the problem ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with a screen shot see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows Vista or latter I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

There's no specific pattern, time or website but it is certainly happening on websites that wouldn't use link bucks (Facebook/university e-mail). I have security software installed on all devices (lookout on nexus 7, MSE on windows 7 laptops).
Any advice anyone could offer would be appreciated, its getting annoying now!

So I have a TP-LINK TL-WR841ND 300Mbps router and the basic problem is, that it repeatedly drops the internet connection and also the devices connected to it. But the my main computer, which is wired to the router has never had any problem, even at the time, when the wireless doesn't work. I use many os like win7, ios 5.1.1 on iPad 3rd, a samsung smart tv and a samsung smartphone with android. But as I mentioned it only happens with wireless, never with the wired computer. When the problem occurs there is no device, which can connect to the internet and to the router, except the wired one.

I've tried all of the encryptions and security methods, at the moment I use WPA2-PSK with AES (also tried with TKIP and automatic mode, and with disabled security too), but neither have helped me. Then I contacted the reseller and they gave me a new one, and said it could have had some special problem. The new one, which I'm using now, got the same problem.

Have any ideas why this problem occurs repeatedly? Or if you need more information about my devices, router or settings, please write me. Thanks in advance!

I have a wireless network, through LinkSys an access point and switch.
The access point acts like the router, I have to laptops which need to connect to the internet, they can see the intranet, but when I ping the router the host is unreachable. The ip's are static, and have been setup manually. I can't understand how they can reach the local network but not the external. Any advice?

I feel bad for starting a new thread on the subject, but I looked through a bunch of the other threads and I couldn't find a solution.

I am on a Dell Laptop (Latitude D600)
And I'm running Windows XP Ver 5.1 Service Pack 3
My ISP is Speedlink Cable
We are using an SMC modem/router SMC8014WN

My roommate can connect to wirelessly, and I can connect with a hard wire connection. I also can connect to the router (full speed), but I get limited or no connectivity to the internet.

I connect to the wireless via a 'NETGEAR WG111v2 54Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter' using the NETGEAR SMART WIZARD - Wireless Assistant WG111v2

When I run IPCONFIG /ALL the output is:

A:Can connect to wireless router BUT cannot connect to internet :(

Try putting static IP addresses in to your wireless network connection.
By the looks of it it seems your wireless connection cannot get an IP address automatically via DHCP.

Let me know if this works or you need help doing this.

Connect your computer by ethernet to the Microtik router (or the switch); use a static IP address and leave the Default Gateway and DNS server blank.

I hope that this is the correct location to post this issue, and that this request for assistance finds you in good health.

The core issue in my home is that I cannot connect to the WiFi router, an all-in-one modem+router provided by my ISP. The brand is Arris, if that helps ascertain what I'm talking about. Now, I run an Ethernet cord from the router to my computer: the computer works just fine. As of a day ago, though, none of the home's Apple devices will connect to the network, despite reboots, password retypes, and shouting at them. Each device (two phones and an ipad) can identify my network, but they cannot join. Additionally, there is an old laptop that cannot connect anymore.

Here's the wrinkle as near as I can see it. The Nexus 7 connects just fine via the WiFi, and it has not needed to reboot or to have the password retyped.

The aforementioned devices have suddenly stopped working, and despite searching these and other forums, my Google-fu has not yielded any answer to this particular question AFAIK. I have seen others post this information, so though I'm not sure it's relevant, I'll provide it just in case. Thank you for your time and attention in this matter, whatever you feel that you can and have spared.

Which devices are commonly connect to com 1,2,3,4 ports?
Where to know more about them?

A:Which devices are commonly connect to com 1,2,3,4 ports?

Normally nothing as they are usually reserved for externally connected devices, although a laptop may use one for Infra Red comm port.
A modem is the most likely, and internal ones usually use Com5

Hi, i am new to this forum and am having difficulty in getting a wireless connection to my Netgear DG834GUv5 wireless modem/router.

5 days ago my 2 laptops running windows 7 and 2 iphones could all connect to the wireless network and onto the web. Now all of them can see the home network mark100 but not connect.

The laptops get to the part wher you add the password but then still gail to connect.

The iphones (which i do not want help with) can see the network but again try to connect but are unable to.

My warranty has expired on the router and they want me to pay for an extended warranty, which i would rather not do considering i believe this has happended before to me and was fixed quite easily, i just cant remember how.

As all 4 devices will not connect I assume its a modem/router fault

I look forward to any advice

In these types of cases it's required that you reset the modem/router using the reset button or you can try unplugging the unit for ten minutes.

After that you will need to go through the router's set up page and type in the required settings like SSID, wireless password, type of security and encryption, which should be WPA2 and AES.

During the summer we had three laptops and an iPod. Two of the laptops and the iPod were having trouble connecting to the Internet, but I thought that was because we had too many devices but I looked it up and most sites said that wasn't true.

Now we have two laptops and the iPod and there are still problems so I thought it was a modem issue. It's a Webstar DPC2100R2 and when the Up and Down lights go off our wireless has trouble but if I use cord which goes through a D-Link DIR-615, the Internet is fine. When the lights go out I usually turn off both devices and turn them back on after about a minute and that usually works.

But then, the lights didn't come back on so I called my Cox, my provider and they did something that fixed for about a week then the two lights went out again. Yesterday I reset them again and my Acer Aspire connected and so did my iPod but my HP Pavilion couldn't so I reset it again. Now my HP and iPod work but my Acer doesn't even though I've reset it multiple times.

What's weird is that the HP never has any trouble connecting, even when the lights aren't on or when my iPod, Acer and my sister's Dell couldn't.

Hi,

I am experiencing a problem with my Windows 8.1 Laptop connecting to the local network through wireless. Here is what I have tested/know:

When I use the W8.1 laptop and try to connect via WiFi to my home router I can either never connect (90% of the time) or the connection is very slow and drops after a short time (10% of the time).Problem has been apparent for a month or so but seems to be getting worse. If I set up my 4G phone as a WiFi Access Point I can connect to internet via W8.1 Laptop without problem. If I connect the laptop via a cable to my home router there is also no problem. The problem seems worse when I am on battery power but also exists when plugged in (but I cannot confirm this, just something I have noticed).

There is an Android phone, iPhone, Nexus, Kindle and a Windows 7 laptop (on it now) in the house all able to connect fine via WiFi to my home router. The problem exists even if I disable all above devices (I can check my router and see no devices are connected via wireless).I have used a WiFi Scanner to confirm there is no other network using the same channel. On the W8.1 Laptop I have tried to forget the network and reAdd it. I have also run ipconfig /renew but nothing is able to get me back.I noticed that in available Network connections when I reboot the Laptop I sometimes see (listed along with my Wifi) a connection called 'Hidden Network' but I don't know what that is.The W8.1 laptop is an Acer Aspire V7 (64bit)The router is a Sky Hub
