Solved: Devices access the router great, but can't connect to the Internet.

Q: Solved: Devices access the router great, but can't connect to the Internet.

I have 2 laptops, an ipad, and 2 smart phones using a dlink router. All devices connect to the router beautifully but will not access the Internet.
Both laptops will access the internet when hardwired to the modem via Ethernet cable.
Rebooted the modem, rest the router, still no connection.
Reset router and one laptop can access the Internet. The other one can't.
ipad and 2 smart phones will not access the Internet even after the reboot of both the modem and router.

It would seem that one laptop at a time can access the Internet through the router with a lot of rebooting and resetting of the router.

I spent a long while on the phone with my Internet Provider and they were no help.
Any suggestions sure would be appreciated.

This is a new problem as all devices have formerly worked great.

Hello all i have trawled the internet for 6 hours and had my friend who manages an IT department look at it to try and solve this problem. His solution was to re-install windows but i dont have a copy and would like to solve it another way.

Here is the issue i have a "d-link airplusG dwl-g122" wireless adapter and a "dlink dir-615" router.

My computer will find and connect to the network via wireless and the ethernet port on the back, however, i cannot get the internet via any program that access's or can access the internet. In internet explorer i get "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page"

I ran diagnostics and here is what i get

Hello, I am having a very strange issue with my computer

This morning I left the ethernet cables for my router and modem disconnected for about an hour, and when I returned home, the connection was not working. A diagnose of the connection tells me "Local area connection does not have a valid IP configuration"

so I try ipconfig release/renew and this did not work because "Unable to contact DHCP"

I cannot figure out for the life of me what the problem is because:

-Connecting the router to a laptop, I am able to access the settings
-Going from my computer straight to the modem works perfectly
-I did a COMPLETE reinstall of Windows 7 64bit, and it did not resolve the issue. Firewalls are off.

I typically run wired to the router, which is connected to a modem from Comcast. It just stopped working abruptly.

Please help, I have been at this for about 6 hours now

Edit: Fixed it myself

As it says on the tin really! I am an absolute non technically minded person so have no idea how to even start trying to fix this problem. A few weeks ago our router quite happily let multiple devices attach wirelessly to the internet at once but in the last couple of weeks it has started only allowing one device at a time to connect to the internet. If say my partners work laptop is connected then our home laptop/iPad can see the wireless router but it will not allow them to connect to the internet anymore. Can anyone help me to try and sort this please...I can use my computer for basic things but am in no way technically minded so please be very clear and simple with any help you are able to give.

TIA

Hi all,

I was hoping someone could help as I have spend hours scouring forums and trying fixes with no luck..

I have recently started getting the little yellow triangle with the exclamation point on my network access system tray icon.

My internet is fine as all other devices (pc, iPad, I phone, Android phone & ps3) all connect perfectly to the internet.

If I disconnect or run the network troubleshooter my computer connects for anything between 30 seconds and 5 minutes before telling me no internet access. Network Diagnostics tells me the default gateway is not available and has fixed it but only for a few moments.

I am using an Edimax EW-7622UMn wireless network adaptor for which I have installed and uninstalled and reinstalled and updated drivers.

I have performed a clean boot and am getting the same issues. I don't have any other connections configured on my pc that could be conflicting.

Please, does anyone have any bright ideas? Thanks in advance.

I have a new router connected to my internet from FIOS. I was sick of the ActionTec router requiring a reboot every few days in order to get it to hand out ip addresses again, so I purchased a Ubiquiti edgmax router. After changing the MAC address of the
router to match the MAC address of the actiontec router, I was able to get it functioning. Sadly, that's when the weirdness began. I am able to connect to the internet fine on almost all my devices. I have two Roku streaming media players and an Ooma Ip phone
box that connect to the internet fine with the new router. All my iOS devices connect fine to the internet. I have a dual boot desktop connected via Ethernet and when I boot to Linux, it connects to the internet fine. If I reboot to Win7 (same exact hardware!),
there is no internet connection. I can see the other devices in the network map (I see the Brother printer and the Roku boxes) that are on this side of the firewall, but Internet access past the firewall is not available (red X between router and Internet).
I have done a virus scan using both MalwareBytes and AVG (in safe mode), and there are no virus found by either. I can reconnect the crappy Actiontec router and everything is fine. I also tried bringing the router, wifi access point and Win7 laptop (that
was NOT connecting to the internet at my home) to my office and connected it all here, and it works fine!
WTF!!!
To say that I am frustrated would be an understatement.

Hello folks,

few days ago my people from my ISP installed a router in my house, now it's a D-Link DIR-100 router which they configured themselves and then left. Thing is I have never had a router before so I don't know first thing about them.

My current problem is that I want to simultaneously connect another pc to the router, without having to turn one of the pcs off, but they don't seem to be working at the same time, I am guessing it's because of the IP conflict, both pcs had the same IP.

I thought I would take a look at the routers web interface but was unable to connect to the default address mentioned in the guide (192.168.0.1), after some googling I tried every kind of variation of the IP addresses, including default gateway (which is different) and whatnot, but still unable to connect. I don't get a timed out, just immediately get the "Unable to connect" error.

So I am wondering, if there is a way to either fix the IP conflict without accessing the interface, or how to access the interface and then how to fix the conflict. Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

Hello Alicia,

Could you please save the file I've attached to my post to your desktop and unzip the file, right click on it and choose "Run as administrator". After you've done so;

Navigate to C:\tech\.
Attach all the files there separately or RAR/ZIP them down to your next reply.

(Run the file once with the Wired cable connected, and once with Wireless-only. Make sure to separate the files/name them differently before you upload then. Like "Wireless_ipconfig.txt" / "Wired_ipconfig.txt")

A:Laptop can connect to router but wont allow access to the internet

There are two things I would like you try / verify. First: when you are using the wifi connection, did you leave the wired connection plugged in? If so, please unplug and try again.
Second: I see that you have a himachi adapter installed. Do you use Logmein VPN software? Can you uninstall it and see if that helps?

Hi, I'm having an issue about my new ethernet card. My onboard ethernet port got hit by lightning recently. I can see that, because the light on the port would not go off even when there's no LAN cable attached to it and it dissapeared mytesriously from the device manager.

So I decided to buy a PCI ethernet card and a LAN to USB device. When I first install the ethernet card (D-LINK DFE-520TX) I got no connection at all, it keeps saying that I have an unidentified network. So I deleted/uninstalled Bonjour service which is mostly from Adobe products. Then I tried again to see if it can connect, and yes it says "Network: Internet Access" on the bottom right icon. I thought that was it, but when I tried pinging to my router, it almost failed everytime.

Pinging gives me this result:

Acer Aspire 5560-Sb41
Quad Core A6-3400M with turbo core tech up to 2.30 GHz
Acer Nplify 802.11b/g/n
Wireless is a WRT160N linksys
Only program that I think could mess it up is LogMeIn Hamachi.
If you need more info on anything then please let me know!

Edit: I put this in the windows 7 area because I had a Windows update recently as well, so just a very very small chance that could have knocked it out somehow.

Hello.

I own two routers - D-Link DSL-504 (ADSL, not wireless) and D-Link DIR-635 (wireless).

The set-up used to be like this:
- Internet (ADSL) cable pluged in DSL-504 router
- PC connected to DSL-504 via Ethernet port
- DIR-635 connected to DSL-504 (Ethernet port to 'Internet' port) - DSL-504 works as a 'modem'
- Laptop wirelessly connected to DIR-635

Everything has worked (note: it wasn't me who set this up).

Unfortunatelly I have reseted the DIR-635 (wireless router) because of some troubles. Now the wireless router doesn't connect to the Internet. I can connect either computer via cable with the first router and it works like a dream. Computers can also see the DIR-365 router when connected to it via cable, but it does not see the Internet.

I've switched the setup on and off several times. Cables work. Computers work, they can see Internet from other sources.

I guess I need to configure the wireless router in some certain way, but I really have no idea, how.

I'd be grateful for your help.

A:Solved: Router cannot connect to Internet (via another router used as a modem)

Probably IP Address conflict as both D-Links would usually use 192.168.0.1 for default internal (LAN) IP.

You would need to change the LAN IP address of the DIR-615 to another subnet such as 192.168.2.1 for a modem LAN port to router WAN (Internet) port connection unless the DIR-615 can be set as an access point. Will need to check the User Manual to see. Will pull up a PDF and check.

Another option would be to set up using the following method by John Will.
Connecting two soho routers in a network
Tutorial from Johnwill from the Networking Forum

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Hello,

Short story even shorter, there was a semi-power outage this morning (lights were very dim but power wasn't totally off), and when the power came back on my router stopped working. Here's what I know:

-The WLAN LED is no longer lit so there's no wireless. That orange CiscoSystems button is no longer glowing orange either if that means much.

-For some odd reason a wired connection through any of the ethernet ports on the router no longer works either, though the LED's still light up when connected, along with the internet LED.

-The modem works fine, I'm connected to the internet directly from the modem right now.

-I've tried to reset the router, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

-I've tried to access the router config settings, and the page doesn't load.

-I've tried to look up the routers ip address through the command prompt but when I enter the command "ipconfig" when I'm wired through the router I always get the response something along the lines of "media disconnected". When I try the command when connected directly to the modem the default gateway ip address comes up as '68.43.36.1'. This doesn't work either.
I've been searching the web for solutions for hours and I can't find one. This is actually the first time I've ever had to post a thread asking for help and I've experienced a slew of computer problems over the years, lol.

I was attempting to port foreward for my PS3, but was having no luck. Long story short, I tried changing the router's IP to see if it would work. Here's where the problem began. I changed it from 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.1.1, which I believe may have made it conflict with my modem. Now I'm stuck not being able to access the internet through the router at all or access the router's configuration to change it back. When I try to access it, I just get a "Page not Found". The computer connected directly to the router is running Windows XP. The Router is a Linksys WRT54GS v. 4.

I've tried disconnecting the internet from the Router to see if it would stop the conflicting problem (if that is indeed the problem), but it didn't work. I've tried setting up many different static IP adresses for the computer connected to the router directly, but it didn't work. I've tried nearly everything, but I just can't get it working.

I'm posting this through a computer connected through a switch to my modem.

Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone. Ive been having a problem with my Netgear WGT624v3 router. Its broadcasting the WIFI signal ok. My devices pick it up but cannot connect. If i go and unplug the router and then plug it back in all the devices connect. They will stay connected for several hours but then the connection will drop. They can still see the router and they try to connect but i have to unplug it and then plug it back in, then they all connect again. Its happened with my phone, my laptop and my Kindle Fire. Any ideas guys? Thanks.

can we see the following form one of the wireless pc when connected and working and the repeat ALL the tests when it disconnects

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Basically, what's happened is that after transferring my old PC's data onto my new one, and putting that one in place of my old one, therefore hooking up my modem to it, my wireless devices have been having trouble connecting to the router. Everything's hooked up fine, and it was working perfectly before, but now my devices such as my laptop and Droid Pro can SEE the router (As in connect to it and say that they are getting excellent signal strength), but when I try to open my browser, it asks as if I'm not connected to anything at all. The PC that's wired to the modem through the router works fine, however.

Hello,

I have a D-Link DIR-652 router, and I can see that it is broadcasting but I cannot connect through my laptop, tablet, or phone. Sometimes it will let me connect but other times it says it is unable to. I can connect when I plug into the router through a cable. I'm doing that now, and I did an ipconfig/all in case it's helpful to see that:

Just recently my Lenovo laptop w/Windows 8.1 will not connect to my Vizio wireless router but it was fine a few months ago. This laptop will connect to my AT&T modem/router.
All my other wifi devices connect to both routers. The only one that does not is the Lenovo laptop with Windows 8.1. I suspect the last windows update screw up my connection. My laptop will connect to Vizio router wired. Every time Microsoft updates I get problems. Vizio router is xwr100. Any suggestions?

A:All devices connect to router except Windows 8.1 Laptop

If you are using both the Vizio router and Att gateway, you would need to place the Vizio behind the Att gateway in a DMS Plus zone

I have scoured the web for the past week and cannot find a solution to my problem. I can connect to my Netgear wireless router from my room PC but cannot connect to the internet. I can't use Messenger nor any other web based programs. When I open internet explorer, even though the icon in the tray says the computer is connected to the internet, 56mbps, signal good etc., i still get the "Cannot display webpage. You may not be connected to the internet, there may be a typing error, or the webpage may be experiencing technical difficulties." I have tried release/renew in cmd. I have tried disabling and then enabling windows zero configuration in services.msc. I have opted to use windows wireless software instead of the netgear software that came with the router, and I have tried connecting to my neighbour's open wireless connection (and this shows me that it's definately a computer problem and not a router problem) and thus far nothing has even come close to working. Every other wireless device in my house can connect to the router and internet. I've used an Ipod touch to connect and a friend's laptop. I also have a computer connected to the router through an ethernet cable. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm at my whits end with this.

Router - Netgear MR814v2
Compact Wireless - G USB Adapter

I have been successfully been using this combination to connect my older laptop to the internet wirelessly. However yesterday it stopped working. I installed the drivers for the USB adapter and when I did the software told me it could see the router, but not the internet.

Next I hard wired everything Cable Modem>Router>Laptop and still could not get internet access. The "internet" light on the front of the router is flashing very fast and constantly. I reset the router by pressing the button on the back as instructions suggested, but still no internet.

I did connect the Cable Modem directly to the laptop and everything worked fine as indicated by this message.

Any suggestions or has the router gone belly up?

Thanks. Jim

Hi, I'm likely missing something obvious and hope one of you can point it out to me.

I have a wireless router (dir-655) that plugs into a wired router (604 I believe) to my cable modem.
Never had a problem for years, until today where I notice that on one of my wireless" PC's... I had connection to my network, but NOT the internet.

PC 1 (wireless)
192.168.0.104
Win7 64bit
can ping 192.168.0.2 (wireless router)
can ping other PC/Laptops 192.168.0.1xx
cannot ping 192.168.0.1 (wired router)
... hence no internet

Laptop (wireless)
192.168.0.101
Win7 32bit
can ping 192.168.0.2 (wireless router)
can ping other PC/Laptops 192.168.0.1xx
can ping 192.168.0.1 (wired router)
... hence working internet via same wireless/wired setup as for PC above.

So I figure the problem is not router based, but on my PC.. and this suddenly appeared last night. No updates or new installs that I can think of, maybe a Windows update I didn't even notice.
Internet works from all wired PC's, and my other wireless laptop.

I tried disabling the windows firewall on the PC... didn't change anything.
I tried upgrading the wireless router firmware in case that might help, didn't change anything.

Any thoughts on what I am missing here?
Thanks,

Hi,
I can connect with no problems through my ordinary internet cable but not when I instead connect it to the router and I put a cable between the router and computer. Then a red cross appears between my "Network" and my "Internet" and it says "there may be a problem with your domain name server" when I try to repair it. I can access the router settings by going to 192.168.1.1 but I don't know what to change. It's a Linksys WRT54GL and I'm on a windows vista. I've tried stuff like reseting the router and doing ipconfig /flushdns but no success.

Some advice would be appreciated.

Our internet connection recently went out during a storm an when trying to get it working again, I've run into some problems. As of now I am able to run the ethernet wire from the cable modem to the computer and connect to the internet without problems. However, when I try to connect the modem through the router (a D-link DI-254) to the computer, the internet doesn't work. The computer says it's connected but websites will not load at all. I have tried resetting the router and have also went to the http://192.168.0.1 address and ran the setup wizard, but I still can't get it to work. Again, when the router is bypassed, the internet connection works as it should. My main concern is getting the connection wired through the router so the wireless internet as well as the connection on the desktop will function properly.

Also, when the connection is re-routed through the router, the wireless network I established can be found but when I connect a laptop to the network, pages will not load. I have tried everything I can think of, so hopefully someone else has some input.

Thank you

Well, here is my set-up. I have my modem which connected to a Netgear router, model WGR614 v6, which is connected to my pc and xbox 360.
Well i bought the router about 2 years ago for my laptop, but then my laptop gave out on me. So I have been using my router so that i can be on my Xbox and pc at the same time.
Well, yesterday I found a wireless adaptor in my grandma's house for the xbox 360 so i decided to see if it still worked since my cousions no longer need it. It connected fine to my wireless network.
Now today, everything went corrupt. Now if i connect my pc and 360 to my router, it does not work. But if I connect the pc straight to the modem, with no router, internet works fine. When I connect my router, it says that it has limited or no connectivity, what can this be? Did my wireless xbox 360 connection mess everything up?

A:Formatted PC with Windows disc, no devices and cannot connect to router

Hello,
what you need are the drivers for your PC.
If it is from Dell,HP or similar go on their support page and get drivers for your PC there.
If this is self built PC, than you will need to know what are the components inside, especially network card and than download the drivers.
I suppose you will download drivers on your laptop.Put the drivers on an USB key or CD and then install them on your desktop. usually once the chipset and network card is installed, the rest you can download directly on this PC. Do not forget to install anti-virus software and do the updates.
Cheers

We got a new ISP today and now I'm trying to get the router to work but it's not working with me. The modem works when hooking the computer up directly through the ethernet cable but when I try the wireless router it's no bueno. It's running through a Static IP address.

I get full signal from the router but I don't get any internet through it. My IPv4 is "Local" and my IPv6 is "Limited." Disabled the IPv6 but it didn't really change anything. I looked through a few other threads with similar problems but none of them really fixed my problems.

1) Tried the Winsock reset
2) Tried disabling the security
3) Made sure the cables weren't faulty
4) Factory reset on router
5) Firmware upgrade on the router
6) Ipconfig /renew
7) Tried automatically finding the IP address/DNS and my own set IP address/DNS's

I can see my router's interface by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar,and I can see the LAN icon that says "connected"
I can see that the router is normally connected to the internet, and I do have internet on my other laptop.

I have disabled windows firewall.
I disabled and reenabled the lan connection, nothing happened.
I turned on and off the router, nothing.
I can reach the router's interface, but no internet:no browsing with either browser, and no updates possible for spyware doctor I just installed.

Keep in mind:
I did connect wirelessly to the internet with the laptop in a friend's house few days ago.

Any ideas?

When I tried to login, I tried various generic usernames and passwords, but it would not accept any of them. The label on my router (Netgear WPN824 v2) says the default username is "admin" and the default password is "password." I do not recall ever giving it a password. Anyway, they did not work.

I figured I had to start all over, so I reset the router with a paper clip and I went to 192.168.1.1 and it would not let me on without a password.

I put in the installation CD, but it will not run. I even tried to install it on a laptop I have, but it would not run on that either.

And now? My router won't access the internet at all.

Am I missing something really obvious here? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I've got a terribly frustrating problem with my internet. I'll give the basic background first, the system that is having technical problems runs vista 32, and my ethernet cord that runs to it is working properly (i tested it with other computers).
My router is qwest's actiontec GT701WG, i also have another router that's a leviton gateway (which connects my other computers to the internet).
If you need more specs, just let me know.
The problem is this: I've have a connection of 4 computers running through the leviton gateway, which connects to my qwest router, which connects me to the internet. For a few years now, this connection has worked great, no problems like this before. But just today, one of my computers couldn't connect to the internet, or to any of the routers. It's LAN line was receiving a ton of packets, but it says it wasn't sending a single one. My first thought was that it was just a small glitch so i restarted everything. Unplugged all the cords to my routers as well, still nothing. Then i thought the problem was my ethernet adapter, so i tried an ethernet to usb adapter, and that adapter didn't work either. So finally, i plugged this computer through the usb line of the actiontec router, and it still wouldn't connect to the router (i use this usb line for one of my other computers in my house so i know it works).
I don't see how it could be a hardware problem, and i can't imagine what kind of so... Read more

I am unable to connect to the internet through my belkin wireless router.

We recently switched from ATT to Comcast in our house so we needed a new router since 2wire won't work with the Comcast modem. So we installed the router - no problems. Its been working great for about 3 weeks now, but yesterday when I tried to get on, it said the router had "no internet access" and I haven't been able to get it to work since.

I have restarted the router, the modem, and my computer several times and reset the router to factory settings to no avail. I thought it might be a problem with comcast (maybe the storms knocked something out) but the modem is working fine; TV and phones still work and all of the lights on the modem box (power, DS, US, Online, ect.) are still on. I called comcast and they said they have registered no issues in the area.

Right now I'm connected to the internet through the modem. I have absolutely no idea what the issue is. I've tried everything I can think of so I'm hoping somebody can help me out. Hopefully I don't need to buy a new router.

Here's everything I can think of that might help solve this:

Dear Experts,

Need your help on an issue I ma facing since I have moved to cable internet.

Originally, I had a DSL service and my netgear router was working properly.

Very recently, I moved my internet to cable internet and phone services to Vonage. So I had a new Cable Modem and Vonage Device, but the same wireless router.

After configuring these devices as required in the installatio guide, my vonage is working and internet when connected directly to the modem and to the Vonage device is working fine as well.

However, as soon as I bring netgear wireless router into the loop, the problem begins. I cannot anymore connect either wired or wireless through the router except when connecting via VPN.

When I connect to my office network using VPN through the same wireless router it connects and everything works fine. But when outside of VPN, the internet doesnt work through the router.

I have set and reset my router configurations multiple times, but the same issue. The IP and other settings are chosen by default by the router and there is nothing out of the ordinary as far as setup is concerned.

I am thinking of buying a new router to resolve this but wanted to run this issue by this group of experts.

Please let me know what information can I provide you for your analysis and reference.

Thanks,
SJ

I am able to connect to the router and the strength of the signal is 'excellent' however I am not able to connect to the internet and get 'no internet access' as a message.

I can cinnect to both the router and internet with a desktop computer and a different lap top and can connect to the internet on my new computer when wired directly into the router.

I have tried disconnecting and connecting etc.

Many thanks

I have been trying to connect my Dlink wbr 2310 wireless router to the internet.

First off it worked earlier today when i had verizon as my ISP. now that i got Comcast which has a different modem it doesn't want to work. I can connect to the router (192.168.0.1) but when i try to go to a website it said "server not found". so right now the only way i can get on the internet is if i connect the computer directly to the new comcast modem. once done i want the computer to be connected to the internet wirelessly. Does any one know any way to get the wireless router to work again?

i have been working on it for 3 hours now, here is what i have done. cycled the router with modem many times, check computer network setting, checked router's firewall and wireless settings, and have disabled the firewalls on the computer.

Dlink router works
Comcast modem works
Computer connects to Comcast modem
Computer connects to Dlink (wireless)
Computer window vista

i just got a dell computer using vista. i have comcast as my provider. i can connect through direct connect to modem but not through zyxel p-330w router. i had no issues with my old hp that was running xp.when i do an ipconfig/all with the router attached, the router shows up but it will not connect to the internet. here are the settings it shows
dhcp enabled- yes
auto config- yes
ipv4 address- 192.168.10.33
subnet- 255.255.255.0
default gateway- 192.168.10.1
dhcp server- 192.168.10.1
dns server- 192.168.10.1
netBIOS over tcpip- enabled

i have upgraded the firmware for the router to v1.8, disabled ipv6, turned off all firewalls, unplugged and reset both router and modem, and restarted computer with everything hooked up and turned on.
any help with this issue would be greatly appriciated as i have another system i would like to get hooked through the router to the net

I think I have a problem with my router. I used to have a Belkin N1 and that worked fine until it broke. So temporarily I'm having to use a Pluscom one I found lying around, but the problem is that I can connect my laptop to the router, but I cannot connect the router to the Internet. I'm using Windows Vista and I have WiFi built into my Sony laptop. The signal strength is consistently on Excellent. In the "Network and Sharing Centre", it clearly shows that my computer is connected to the router, but the connections between the router and the Internet is broken (shown with a red X between the two icons). If I try to connect to someone else's network, I can connect to their router and the Internet, so I'm assuming I'm going wrong with my router somewhere. Anyone have any ideas about what I could do to resolve this issue? Any help would be much appreciated.

Here is my issue: My modem CAN connect to the Internet but my router CANNOT. I've called my ISP (Brighthouse) and went through a whole process of bypassing the router, restarting the modem for 2 minutes, and restarting the router for 30 seconds. Then I even got a little help from the router's maker (Linksys) by switching the IP address of the router, they said this could be the issue if my modem had the same IP address. I switched it to 192.168.2.1, but still no luck.

I'm drawing a blank on this. I think I have tried everything, even buying a new router. Any help would be far-passed appreciated because I do not know what to do now.

The new router is a Linksys E1000. I haven't got the specs of my modem yet, I'll update this post or reply later with them. If I need to post anymore info please specify what and how, thanks.

I have recently been having a strange issue with my computer. For some reason, i can no longer access the the internet through my wireless router. I have tried the network diagnostic tool in Windows 7, and it claimed that my drivers needed to be updated. I updated the drivers, and still no connectivity. I have tried pinging my router/gateway IP and i recieve "transmit failed. General failure" message. I have retried pinging it using a different ethernet cable and i still have the same error message. My roommate who i share internet with, is able to connect to my network and the internet with no problem. Also, i used to be able to acess the internet using my phone as a hotspot. That no longer works either. The only changes to my system that have happened prior to this problem occurring is that i removed several viruses from my computer, and ran a program to clean my registry. I think there may be a chance that a virus somehow interfered with my network settings. Any suggestions?

A:Solved: Can't Ping Router, or Connect to Internet.

"General failure" is often caused by a misconfigured or corrupted firewall. But viruses and the "program to clean my registry" also have to be considered serious suspects.

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Evening all !

This is is driving me bonkers !

I recently changed the wireless access password on my BT Infinity router and disconnected every device - including 4 phones, 2 iPads a laptop and an aging Vista PC.

I've changed all the passwords on all the devices and they all connect again to the hub under the new password - except the PC !

The PC connects via a Belkin USB adapter.
The wireless network appears - highlight, click connect - says getting information from BTHub, eventually asks for the password - enter my new password - and immediately get Windows cannot connect.

Things I've tried :

Rebooted BTHub
Rebooted PC (several times)
Control Panel > Network and sharing centre > Manage Wireless Networks  and deleted network profiles.
Deleted the USB adapter and reinstalled.

The Belkin device is working OK as I can connect to an non-secure BT Hotspot on the PC and it's blue light flashes (as normal) when communicating with the BTHub.

Any advice greatly appreciated - this is the Old machine I've dedicated to the kids for You Tube etc. - they ain't happy !!!!!!!!!

Many thanks

Blue Sierra

A:Changed wireless router password for security - all devices connect except PC !

Was the driver downloaded from the Belkin site? Right click the adapter in Device Manager and select Properties. Under the Details tab select Hardware IDs in the dropdown box. Copy and paste the first line in your next post. There may be a later driver available, especially if an intel chipset is used.

What is the model number of the Belkin? Did you change the encryption type on the router? i.e. from WPA to WPA2? TPIK to AES?

Hi

I had to replace my wireless router as the old one blew up. The new one (Linksys WRT54G) seemed to load up fine with the supplied software, but when it came to the part about testing the internet connection, it fails dismally. I'm connecting through a US Robotics 9015 ADSL modem, which when connected directly to the Lappy, works fine, but the new router doesn;t seem to get on with it. Can someone smart please help me?

I have triple checked the WEP encription on the adapter and the router, I have also checked all the firewall settings and thats OK, my router also shows that the adapter is connected as the client but still I can't get access to the internet on my laptop in the same room.

Any help will be much appreciated.

I'm trying to hook up a Siemens Speedstream 4100 and a Linksys E2500. The internet works fine when I plug the modem directly into the computer. When I try to run it through the router, though, the router install appears to work right but I get a message saying that my internet connection might not be working.

I power-cycled everything - unplugged all the cords and waited 20 minutes before restarting. No dice.

It sounds like putting my modem in bridge mode might be the move? When I type in 192.168.0.1, I get a message that says "Server says: Linksys E2500." It also wants login information, and I'm not sure what that would be.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi everyone,

I have been trying to troubleshoot my vista why I can't even connect to the internet, before when I had this problem, I'd repair and diagnose and it worked and now, nothing works........

For a while it did work.... then it did not work at first I thought it was the network cable then I got that changed, had even reinstalled my motherboard drivers and vista and still nothing works

My desktop motherboard is a Zotac GEforce 8200 AM2+micro atx motherboard and processor is an AMD athon (tm) 64 x 2 dual core processor 5600+ 2.8GHZ.

The router/modem is a wireless ADSL2+ Router DSL -2640T Dlink Wireless G, my friends at home are all able to connect to the internet with no problem at all either wireless or by cable.

I had been looking through the forum and this is what I have done.

Hi,

This issue has been bugging me for months.

I've configured my ADSL Wireless Router to have an "always on" connection to the internet.
This I can check in the router configuration page, under status and I see that there is indeed PPP connection to my ISP, with transmission and received statistics to prove it.
Ok, no problem there.

However, when I connect to the wireless router from my PC, I would expect that because the internet connection is already active on the router, I would not have to log in to the ISP again from my PC. But I do!
Why I do not know, but this has been irritating me for months.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

FYI, running VISTA (rubbbish) and connected to a Siemens SL2-141/SL2-141-I ADSL Router.

Regards

JP

I just connected a linksys WRT54G version 8 wireless G router to a desktop computer in my apartment that's directly connected to the internet via cable. I have a desktop pc in the next room with a WUSB11 version 2.6 linksys adapter. I'm trying to connect to the main computer's internet connection. When I first set up the router, everything worked fine. The second computer was connected with the wireless adapter. As soon as I secured the network, that second computer couldn't connect anymore. I've tried both WPA and WEP, and my wireless connection settings on the second computer are configured correctly according to the linksys site and various other places with instructions on the web. I've rebooted my router, reset passwords, tried disabling that wireless zero thing in windows administration tools I've read about online, and looking through every option on that linksys router website (http://192.168.1.1). Any more suggestions? I'm a Windows XP home user.

Just so we're clear. If you disable encryption on the link, you connect fine, but any encryption on the router inhibits the wireless machine from connecting?

Have you tried using only WZC and not the adapter's wireless client?

Hi everyone,

this is my problem: My laptop is connected to the router but when I try to open any website it says "Website not available.". On other laptops and on my phone the WiFi works just as usually.

What happened before: I tried to solve some other problems on my laptop. I run the Ccleaner, Malwarebytes and deinstalled a few programs, as far as I remember it was mainly Yahoo stuff.

What I have tried so far: Turned my internet off and back on. And even disconnected and reconnected that way that I had to type the password in again. Trouble-shooting says that there is a "problem with the wireless adapter or the access point" but it also says that it is solved then. And after another trouble-shooting "The problem could not be identified.". I've done a system restore. I tried ipconfig/release , ipconfig/renew and ipconfig/flushdns. Nothing changed.

Please donīt only advice me WHAT to do but also HOW to do it. Make it as foolproof as possible, please. Thanks in advance!

A:Solved: Able to Access Wireless router but not internet

I have a pc that is connected to my router through an Ethernet cable. The network sharing center confirms I am connected to my network, and that I am connected to the internet; however, I can not connect to the internet with IE, chrome, or any other internet-based application. The icon in the bottom right also says I have internet access. As well, another ethernet-connected PC in the house works just fine, and my laptop has no trouble connecting through the wireless. I have switched the connection ports on the router between the two PCs and the problem still persists.Trouble shooter results without identifying any problems and trying to "set up a new connection or network" says "you are already connected to the internet". This issue occurred over night and had been working for over a year without issue.
I have restarted the router as well as the pc, connected to the router and it shows the pc as "inactive"
HELP PLEASE!!

Hey everyone!

Specs:
Windows 7 x64
Intel I5 3570k 3.4Ghz
MSI Z77A-G43 Intel Z77 ATX
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 8GB (2x4gb)
R9 270X Saphire Toxic 2GB OC Edition
Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD x1
Thermaltake Urban S31 Case

This problem started two days ago. I ran a full virus scan with AVG 2014 and it found 36 threats. I then proceeded to rid the threats then reboot my pc. When it was fully booted up I was able to connect to my router and have an apparent five bars connection but no browser or programme can access the internet, although everything else in the house can access the internet so it's something to do with the pc.

When I try to connect to a website my browser (Google Chrome) says "Unable to connect to the internet" with the error code "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET". I tried the using an ethernet cable but nothing changed. Although, when I go to Control Panel> Network and Internet> Network Connections> Change adapter settings, there are 3 icons:
Local Area Connection (which has a red X on it and says Network cable unplugged), Wireless Network Connection (which is my adapter and has 5 green bars) and Wireless Network Connection 2 (which has both a red X and 5 green bars and says Not connected). Not sure if this is relevant

I opened a command prompt and typed "ping www.google.com" and "ping 4.2.2.2" not sure if it means anything but here are the results:

Im using a Netgear DG638 modem/router with the family PC downstairs, and connecting to my PC upstairs via Ethernet Crossover Cable (RJ45 or whatever its called). Now my PC was receiving the internet connection with no problems. I was playing happily on WoW when im called downstairs and i find that the family PC can't access the internet. Now i dont know why this might be (other than me stealing all the bandwidth..) but i check the router connections, and its fine, since mine is working upstairs. But no matter what website i try, i get a "page could no be displayed" error. Now what could possibly be causing this? My setup goes like this:

ISP > Router ----[usb to family PC]
............|.....................................
My PC via Ethernet

I'm using tiscali 2mb broadband. Checked network connections and its shown as connected but i can't seem to get the pc downstairs to connect..

..any advice?

apologies if this is in teh wrong section (again!) but i figured its a networking problem, as the hardware appears fine.

cheers!

Yesterday when I got home from college my computer randomly could not connect properly to my wireless modem. It tells me the SSID etc but when I connect to it, it becomes an unidentified network and has no internet connectivity. This problem only occurs on my laptop via wifi, wifi still works fine on other computers and my phone so I assume it is a problem on my laptops end. Also my laptop can connect to other wireless networks, ie my schools public network, and they work fine. I'm running windows 7 home premium. Need help desperately! So far I have reset my modem, deleted the network from my computer and reconnected again.

I have a Linksys WRT54G version 1 router. My basic problem is I can't seem to connect to the Internet. My PC can connect to the router and it can detect my Internet settings, but I can't actually connect to the net. There's nothing wrong with my Internet connection. I can still connect to the Internet through my old Linksys BEFW1154 v2 router easily.

I've updated the firmware on my Linksys WRT54G router and I've reset all the settings to factory defaults. Originally I had two Vista OS PCs, an XBox 360, a PS3, wired to the router and I've connected one XP OS PC and a Tivo to the router wirelessly. Right now I'm trying to apply my old config to the new router. My primary PC is wired. I've already checked my Ethernet cables and I've made sure that the modem is connected to the plug labeled Internet on the WRT router.

I'm not 100% on the terminology, but I believe I'm only connected to my router locally. Originally my new router couldn't even detect the Internet through my ARRIS tm402 Touchstone Modem. The status page would display all 0s for the dns addresses. My new router wasn't able to detect the net until I contacted Comcast and had them reset my modem. As I mentioned, now my router can detect the net, but my PC can't actually access the net. I thought the problem might be with my PC, but as it turns out my XBox 360 and other PC (which are both wired) also can't access the net. I really need some h... Read more

I have seen multiple threads on this, but have not yet found the fix I need in any of them. I have had this Toshiba A505-S6960 Satellite laptop since September '09 and have never had any internet connectivity issues until last week. It came with Vista Home Premium 64-bit and I've used in my apartment and at my parent's house, and it has always automatically detected both networks and connected immediately.

Last week, I started getting "Local access only" when I connected at both my apartment and at my parent's house. I've clicked "Diagnose and Repair" and it says "Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server(192.168.0.1)."

I have tried many fixes, including disabling IPv6, adjusting the DHCPBcast Flag in the registry editor, etc. Nothing is working. I took it into Best Buy where I bought it and have an active warranty, and the Geek Squad connected to the Best Buy wireless network right in front of me and told it looks like its working and there's nothing they can really do.

Please help. Here is my ipconfig info:

I have two PCs wired to my Linksys Router(BEFSR41).

PC1 - Compaq Presario with Windows XP media Edition
PC2 - Emachines W3052 with Windows XP Home

I am using PC1 to post this message because PC2 is having a connection issue.

I ran the router setup/configure disc in PC1 and it connected perfectly and I am able to browse the internet from it(Obviously). I had previously hooked a PS3 into the router and was able to download content for it. But when I got PC2 and plug it into the router via belkin fastcat cat5e patch cable(which works fine with PC1), I can see that the LAN is connected but I have no connectivity of any programs that use the internet(Firefox, IE, Messeger and whatnot).

I have a Motorola sr 5100 SURFboard cable modem that I also get foxtel on. I can run a CAT5 cable into the back of my PC and it automatically connects me to the internet. But I dont know how to connect the cable modem to my TP LINK TL-WR941 ND wireless n router so that I can allow my laptop to connect to the internet. I am able to connect to the wireless router from the laptop and it resolves an IP address no worries. I have connected the cable modem through the WAN port and also one of the LAN ports but it still doesnt give internet access. I am not sure about how to set it up properly

A:Solved: Access cable internet through wireless router

It's not working because your font is too small for the router to see. Actually, it's me that's having the problem reading it. Please use normal size if you want me to attempt to read any more.

Reset the router to factory default settings.
With the modem and router unplugged and the computers shut down connect the modem to the router's WAN port and computer(s) to LAN port(s).
Plug in modem. Plug in router. Boot computer(s) and you should have internet access. If not, clone to the router the MAC Address of the computer that gets internet access when connected to the modem.

Hi folks,

I just finished rebuilding an old PC, to now run a fresh install of Win7Pro32-SP1. No matter what I do, I can't get it to connect to devices beyond one of two (identical) access points on my LAN.

I have one AP inside my home, which a Win7Home32 netbook and my phone and tablet connect to, and another one outside my home which connects via WiFi to a remote solar-powered camera site about 300 meters away. (At that remote site, there is a TP-Link client router, which connects to an Axis camera, and to a Tycon Power Systems site monitor. All three devices have static IPs set up and the system has been running fine for over six months, with barely a hiccup.)

There are six other PCs here on the network, and three Android devices. All of these (including the Win7Home32 netbook) CAN connect to those three remote devices at the other end of the long-range WiFi link. I can even place an Ubuntu DVD into the drive of the newly built Win7 machine and boot Ubuntu, and it then can see my three remote devices, so I know it's not a hardware issue or unplugged cable. It has got to be something in the LAN adapter settings, or the firewall, or something that's evidently over my head.

When running in Win7Pro32, attempts to connect to the remote devices through that AP just won't go. (I CAN connect to that AP with no trouble - just not to anything beyond it.) Pings to the AP return in less than 1ms. Pings to the devices beyond the AP return "destination host unreachabl... Read more

Hi

In my home there are two desktops (the main one is hooked up to the router) four tablets, two laptops, two Roku boxes, and three phones that are all connected to my Belkin Router. All of a sudden the only device that will connect to the Router is the main desktop (I'm hoping it won't conk out on me too). On all the devices you can see the network but it won't connect. I want to say that this occurred after I renewed and reinstalled my Norton Security program on the computer but I'm not 100% sure that it started after that, maybe 85% sure.

What could be the reason for this and how do I fix it? The tablets, laptops, and phones all connect just fine to the internet outside of the home so I know it isn't the devices.

Thanks!

Oh I am a complete tech novice so please give very detailed directions as I have no idea about IP address, DNS or anything else to do with computers. I basically know turn it on and use it no back of the house stuff. Sorry.

Thanks

Angela

A:Devices won't connect to the internet

so no devices will connect to your router with wireless - is that correct ?

whats the exact model of the belkin and how old is it
have you switched OFF and left off for 15 mins
then turned back on

does it have any lights on the front - if so is there one for wireless and is it on ?

I can't connect to the internet on my laptop for some reason - right now I am on safe mode and the internet is working, however it does sometimes lose the connection on safe mode too. All other devices, such as other laptops, phones and kindles can connect to the internet with ease, so I am so confused! I have run different anti virus checks and they have all found nothing. I'm not sure if this is worth saying - but my laptops battery needs to be replaced so maybe that has something to do with it?

Hi,
I have just purchased a used Dell Inspiron 1525. Unfortunately I haven't been able to use it. Everytime I try and connect a usb device, it asks to check for the device's software but it won't install any devices without the internet being connected. Every time I plug one in, an dail up internet connection page pops up and as soon as I close it, it says that the computer was unable to install device. However I use a usb modem for my internet, so it isn't able to unpack and install on the laptop. Its not just the modem that won't install, its all USB sticks. If I let the internet connection page stay up it will just spend lots of time trying to install the device but won't and as soon as I close the internet connection box it instantly says device installation fail. Its running on Vista Home Premium.
The person I bought it off said she had a hard time getting all of her documents and files off without wiping vista too, so I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it.
I really have no idea at all in how to fix this. Any help would be very much appreciated!!

Thanks,
Vaughan

Ok I will try to give as much info as possible. My roommate has the broadband modem and wireless router (D-Link Dl-524) in his bedroom, along with his Vista machine. He connects into the router so he is a LAN and has access to the Internet.

I have a XP Home machine and a USB wireless adaptor (Linksys WU8546) and I am able to connect to the access point but I can't connect to the Internet. I was able to connect to another router that my adaptor found and got Internet access on that...

Help please!!!

Between here and the internet, I have a D-Link Router installed - a DI-624S. One of the features of this router is that from the control panel, you can deny a computer on the network permission to access the internet. This router was working perfectly fine up 'til a year ago, when I started encountering this problem:

Spontaneously, once or twice a day, the router will decide to deny my computer - only my computer, nobody else in my LAN has this problem - access to the internet, at a time it is not meant to. Its internal clock is correct. This can only be resolved by restarting the router.
Lately, it is not scheduled to deny anybody on the network permission at all - ever. However, it still denies my internet and only my internet, and it seems to do this every other hour.

At the time I am denied internet, everybody else in the household has full internet access. I am on a LAN cable, just like one other computer (which is exactly the same type as mine, bought from the same store), and there is no wireless connection between here and the internet.

The firmware is still at version 1. My Dad would rather not upgrade it if he could help it; he'd have a load of portforwarding to set up again.

Does anybody have a solution? I will be glad to provide extra information if necessary.

Thanks for reading!

Hi all.

Got a problem that i need help with.

I have a Netgear DGN2000 router wired to a desktop machine running windows 7. In another room i have another desktop machine running windows XP. I have a netgear WN111v2 network adapter connected to this machine. The network adapter says it is connect to the router, the icon in the bottom right hand corner is green and the signal strength is in high 90%s, yet when i start up internet explorer the message i get is "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".

Also, in the house there is a laptop running windows 7 (connected wirelessly - no problems) another laptop running windows xp (connected - no problems) and an Xbox 360 (connected ok).
Been on to netgear tech support all they could suggest was to lower the security settings on the router, ultimately lowered down to disabled - still nothing.
Disabled homegroup on the windows 7 machine still nothing running out of ideas now. Can someone out there help please?

Cheers
