Solved: All devices except laptop connect to wifi?

Q: Solved: All devices except laptop connect to wifi?

About a week ago, my laptop just stopped connecting to my wifi. I have an HP Pavilion dv6 running Windows 7 (64-bit). I've had this laptop for about four years, if I'm not mistaken, and I have never had problems such as this before. It can detect neighboring connections, but it just doesn't detect my personal wifi. The router/modem is not the problem because I can connect to them with my other devices just fine (Samsung Galaxy S3/S4). I am able to connect via Ethernet cable, but of course this is a terrible inconvenience. Cuddling my router is not something I feel I'd want to do just to get some work done.

I have tried:
- restarting my router (Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router model WNDR3400)
- restarting my laptop
- system restore
- uninstalling and reinstalling wireless drivers (originally was Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN, when reinstalled it changed to Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000)
- changed router settings (router channel, password/security options)
- manually connecting through Control Panel (SSID is not set to be hidden, but still couldn't be found)
- troubleshooting (nothing was found)
- updating basically everything (router firmware, drivers, software, etc.,)

Long story short, none of this worked. I feel as though I have tried everything I could find within multiple forums and endless internet surfing, but I am simply out of ideas at this point.
The connection on my other devices is slow, but they connect nonetheless.
Any help is strongly welcomed, perhaps it may be time for a new computer/router..
Note: I am not as tech savvy as I make myself appear to be in this post, but I know my way around the computer for the most part.

Hello,

My laptop (an HP Pavilion dv5 using Windows 7) won't connect to my home wifi. Both my iphone and my ipad does without any problems. I've tried removing the wifi network from my laptop and adding it again. When I type in my password for the wifi it tells me there's a key mismatch although I'm 100% certain the password is correct. I kept typing it in and eventually it just tells me it cannot connect to my laptop.

I tried a system restore but my laptop wasn't able to complete it. It told me the restore failed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am on vaca, but supposed to be working remotely. My Asus laptop has worked w/out issues at home, work, airport, etc, but it won't work in this house. The Nook connects to the wifi here w/out any problems.

The network box shows four bars and says I'm connected when I pull up the list of possible connections, but then when I troubleshoot it says, "no Internet acces".
I have Windows 7 currently.

Suggestions? Please help. Thanks.

Hello,

I have a strange problem. My laptop suddenly stopped connecting to the wifi network (comcast) last night. Interestingly my lenovo tablet, mobile phone and another laptop are able to connect to my wifi network without any issues.

I have also tried the following steps to troubleshoot:
1. switching off the router for 30 secs
2. Resetting the router
4. Restarting the computer
5. Releasing the ip and disconnecting the computer from the network followed by a reconnect.
6. Manually attempting to connect to the wifi network

Note: Interestingly I was able to connect to a neighbor's unsecured wifi network so I am presuming the wireless adapter is working.

I have run out of ideas on how to trouble shoot this further. could any one kindly help ? I have pasted below the windows Network Diagnostics report

Remove the wireless security
Is your wireless security enabled?
if so - log into the router and remove the wireless security - now see if it will connect.
if it does - log back into the router and try with the wireless security enabled again

Hello, new to the forum and relatively tech-newb.

I got a new DSL connection in my apartment today. Router was set up fine and most devices are working (my iPhone, my friend's laptop and my old laptop). However I can't seem to connect to WIFI with my primary laptop (Windows 7).

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network drivers.

I tried turning off the router and turning on again.

I also tried resetting the TCP/IP stack with "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" and restarting. (Not entirely sure what that does but I read it somewhere). No improvement.

I can provide two ipconfig logs. The first one is from my old laptop which is successfully connected to the WIFI network:

I have been unable to connect to anything on my wired network, for about the last week. I don't remember making any changes however, I just became unable to connect.

I having done a little troubleshooting.

1. I can connect to the shares of my Windows Home Server if I use the IP address. The name does not resolve.

2. Flushed DNS and restarting DNS server. Flushing DNS works on one client, to allow browsing by the name & restarting DNS works on the other. However neither works after a restart.

3. Only my Wifi clients are experiencing this issue. My wired clients, desktops, PS3, Xbox 360, and Boxee can connect perfectly.

This issue is not limited to my server. I can't connect to shares on my desktop, nor print to my wired printer.

Some network background:

I have DSL through CenturyLink and have a Linksys E2000 router.

Sent a test page from one laptop to the printer at 6:36pm, it finally printed at 6:48pm....

I hope that this is the correct location to post this issue, and that this request for assistance finds you in good health.

The core issue in my home is that I cannot connect to the WiFi router, an all-in-one modem+router provided by my ISP. The brand is Arris, if that helps ascertain what I'm talking about. Now, I run an Ethernet cord from the router to my computer: the computer works just fine. As of a day ago, though, none of the home's Apple devices will connect to the network, despite reboots, password retypes, and shouting at them. Each device (two phones and an ipad) can identify my network, but they cannot join. Additionally, there is an old laptop that cannot connect anymore.

Here's the wrinkle as near as I can see it. The Nexus 7 connects just fine via the WiFi, and it has not needed to reboot or to have the password retyped.

The aforementioned devices have suddenly stopped working, and despite searching these and other forums, my Google-fu has not yielded any answer to this particular question AFAIK. I have seen others post this information, so though I'm not sure it's relevant, I'll provide it just in case. Thank you for your time and attention in this matter, whatever you feel that you can and have spared.

Hi,

I am experiencing a problem with my Windows 8.1 Laptop connecting to the local network through wireless. Here is what I have tested/know:

When I use the W8.1 laptop and try to connect via WiFi to my home router I can either never connect (90% of the time) or the connection is very slow and drops after a short time (10% of the time).Problem has been apparent for a month or so but seems to be getting worse. If I set up my 4G phone as a WiFi Access Point I can connect to internet via W8.1 Laptop without problem. If I connect the laptop via a cable to my home router there is also no problem. The problem seems worse when I am on battery power but also exists when plugged in (but I cannot confirm this, just something I have noticed).

There is an Android phone, iPhone, Nexus, Kindle and a Windows 7 laptop (on it now) in the house all able to connect fine via WiFi to my home router. The problem exists even if I disable all above devices (I can check my router and see no devices are connected via wireless).I have used a WiFi Scanner to confirm there is no other network using the same channel. On the W8.1 Laptop I have tried to forget the network and reAdd it. I have also run ipconfig /renew but nothing is able to get me back.I noticed that in available Network connections when I reboot the Laptop I sometimes see (listed along with my Wifi) a connection called 'Hidden Network' but I don't know what that is.The W8.1 laptop is an Acer Aspire V7 (64bit)The router is a Sky Hub

Basically, what's happened is that after transferring my old PC's data onto my new one, and putting that one in place of my old one, therefore hooking up my modem to it, my wireless devices have been having trouble connecting to the router. Everything's hooked up fine, and it was working perfectly before, but now my devices such as my laptop and Droid Pro can SEE the router (As in connect to it and say that they are getting excellent signal strength), but when I try to open my browser, it asks as if I'm not connected to anything at all. The PC that's wired to the modem through the router works fine, however.

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 laptop that at home works great.

The problem starts when I go to other locations that i want to connect to. It won't connect and has been like this since I bought the laptop!

Without fail it will NOT connect.

Tonite, I plugged in my Mom's new Router, when I tried to login to the router - nothing. In Wireless connections available it says automatically store p/w and Connect.. when I click on connect it doesn;t even ask me for a password!

Change Adapter settings: Network connections (two of them) say not connected)

Anyone be able to help?

I have removed from Dev Manager the 3 network items listed and restarted the Laptop, Still no go!

DISCLAIMER: This is my first post so I apologize for any mistakes I make.

Hello all,

Yesterday morning upon waking up I discovered that the Wifi in my house was no longer working. It had worked fine the day before but stopped working completely overnight. At first I thought it might have been Charter Communications (My ISP) throttling the internet due to our bandwidth (My Mom watches a TON of Netflix). But the internet works fine with our two home desktops. It is the same connection but devices such as my iPhone 4, Nexus 7, iPad 3, iPhone 5, etc. are unable to get internet access. They are able to connect to the wifi and you are able to see the bars, but when trying to connect to the internet you get a network error message.

To try to fix this problem I ran measurmentlab (test for throttling), my virus scan (McAfee), and malwarebytes. I was unable to see any noticeable change in my problem.

I am hoping someone might know what I am doing wrong, but I haven't been able to find a thread that has helped me out thus far.

Thanks for reading, Nick

Hi,

I hope someone can help!

I am on holiday in Spain attempting to connect to a residential wireless network on a router that was installed up by an engineer this morning.

When the engineer was here he connected an HP laptop using XP to the wireless router. At first there was an issue with the connection (seemingly the same error message I am getting now), he did something to the wireless settings on the laptop, which stupidly I didn't see, and it successfully connected.

When I attempted to connect my laptop to the same wireless router I got the same error message:
'Connection Unsuccessful'
I clicked Diagnose Problem and got this:
'This computer has got limited or no connectivity'

I first selected the 'Automatically get new IP settings for the network adapter' but this didn't solve the problem. I then viewed the Wireless Network Security Settings and as far as I can see they are identical to those on the HP laptop that has successfully connected:

Security Type: No Authentication (open)
Encryption Type: WEP
Network Security Key: **********
Key Index: 1

I then connected my laptop to the router using the ADSL cable and was able to connect to the internet, but I am still unable to get a wireless connection. When I view the wireless connections I am 'Connected With Limited Access'.

I have included information below about laptop/router types. I'm not sure if anything else is required. Please also bear in mind I am in... Read more

Hello, I have a Dell Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit) laptop that I've had for maybe half a month. When I first got it, I had no problems connecting to my router. But starting a couple days ago, the WiFi would not connect properly. I have to use the troubleshoot feature a couple times on my computer for it to work. About a week ago, our cable internet connection went out. Before I had a chance to reboot the modem & router, my 11 year old decided to completely reset the router to factory settings! Ugh! This caused several issues: my home network is now gone, only a unsecured factory network is available. When I try to plug my laptop into the router via ethernet cord (in order to login to router and setup secure network) my computer will not recognize the router and won't connect to internet. I tried troubleshooting with my cable provider and they say it's in my computer (IP address will not reset) and he recommended I replace my network card. However, today when I brought my laptop to work, it will instantly recognize the wifi at work. So is it really my network card that is causing issues? Please help, I'm desperate and not tech too tech savvy!

Hello,

Switched over the internet service provider to Time Warner. We are using the same router we have used before the switch (which was also with Time Warner service provider) and everything was working FINE before the switch. But now, with the new modem from service provider something is wrong -- My roommate is unable to connect her laptop, and her phone to the wifi even though the network is being detected. I can only connect to my laptop, which was the laptop I had opened to verify connectivity when the Technician was there. Also, my I-phone is unable to connect to the network even though it detects it. It's very odd considering we had the technician come out to resolve this issue in the first place. Could it be that the DHCP server has been turned off, so it's allowing only one device to connect to the one IP address on the modem?
Or do we need to delete the wifi networks off of our computers and other devices? My roommate tried that on her devices and still didn't connect. Please help.

A:Unable to connect multiple devices to home wifi

Do you know if your new modem includes WiFi? Is so, when you tested the connection with the technician present, did they have you connect wirelessly to your existing wireless router or to the modem itself?

Assuming you are running some version of Windows on the computer that can connect, please go into the Windows DOS/Command prompt screen and run an IPCONFIG /ALL command. Then copy and paste the complete results of the command here.

If the computer is running Windows ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If your only email accounts are free (Hotmail, gmail, etc.) try this direct link. If you need help with a screen shot see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

T-Mobile's tech support can't seem to figure out my problem so I'm hoping someone here can help.

I just purchased a T-Mobile hotspot (ZTE) yesterday. It can connect to the T-Mobile network and appears to be working fine. My Wii can connect wirelessly to the the hotspot, but my laptop can only connect to the internet through the USB cord (which it's really not supposed to, because that's supposed to be for charging the device). When I try to connect via wifi to my hotspot, my computer can detect the network. However, after I immediately enter my password, it says that it cannot connect. When I click "Diagnose the problem" it says there was a timeout.

I have Windows Vista and one of the tech support people mentioned that Windows Vista sometimes has problems connecting with handshake devices (but he didn't know how to fix it). Another person said I should have about 20 seconds to type in my password, so it shouldn't be timing out so quickly. Is it something with my computer? I have a Compaq Presario CQ60. I had this same problem when I tried to connect to a friend's hotspot a couple weeks ago (I don't remember if it was also T-Mobile or another provider, though).

Thanks

Hello, I,ve looked at the other posts but cant seem to find the solution.

I can not connect to the home WiFi network using this laptop, yet I can connect this laptop to other public networks using the WiFi.

I can connect this laptop tp the home network using cable to the Netgear Broadband wireless router, and I can connect to the home network with other devises ie ipads, ipods and another windows XP laptop.

I had McAfee installed which was not working and I have uninstalled it.

The laptop belongs to my family and is one of the two laptops that my family owns. Both laptops are Compaq Presario CQ57 PC Notebooks. One is 3 years or so older than the other and I've noticed that they both have to different wireless network adaptors. The older laptop has Broadcom and the newer laptop has Realtek. As I'm sure you can guess, the older laptop is the one we're having trouble out of.The laptop has never had any problems connecting to the ARRIS wireless access point that is through Fedility Communications.

To get to the point, the older laptop had been connecting to the ARRIS wireless access point just fine until 8/30/2014.Thinking back it has done this before one other time a little over a year ago and my family never figured out why it did it.It just suddenly went back to normal. Now it's doing it again and the strange part is it will connect to my family's U.S Celluar hot spot. Here is the info I got from it.Please let me know if you need any more info.I hope the info given below helps and thank you to anyone who replies.

My laptop is reading a full WiFi signal from my router. I am currently connected to the router via Ethernet on the same laptop. I've been reading tons of old threads to troubleshoot this. I'm at a loss. I have used this current networking hardware for more than a year without any problems. I do have a pretty old router but my iPod connects to the WiFi no problem at the moment. Here's what I've tried so far:

- soft reset of router
- power cycle modem and router
- removed saved network information from the laptop
- hard reset of router
- ip release/renew
- dns flush
- tcp/ip reset
- uninstalled/reinstalled drivers for wireless card
- system restore

I have supplied an ipconfig/all report, the 3 usual ping tests that I see requested, and I have attached a screenshot of Xirrus.

Thank you kindly for the help!

Hi. Thanks in advance to anyone who tries to help!

I'm in a rental condo. There's secure Wifi. My iPod will connect (we have the password) but my Dell Latitude laptop running Windows XP won't. (Only message is that it is waiting for the network, which eventually times out.) My laptop does connect to an unsecured wifi signal I can pick up in the same unit (from somewhere else).

I have tried unplugging/replugging the router, but since it's not mine, I don't have reconfiguration capability or anything like that.

Any ideas?

Hi;
Purchased a new HP Compaq laptop that's internal wireless (Intel 802.11a/b/g) capable.
I want to improve the wireless performance, particularly using hotspots where the built-in
antennas are presumably somewhat limited. Would appreciate some suggestions as to the most mobile and effective way to improve/increase signal strength/reception. I've seen everything from external antennas and amplifiers to external devices with their own cards like cantennas, etc. I've seen extenal usb antennas that claim 6db signal increases all the way up to 28db increases involving the installation of an exterior high gain amp and antenna (which is hardly portable). I'm just looking for the most portable/mobile and affordable device for increasing hotspot signal strength- Many thanks in advance for any and all replies-

So this has been going on for a few months. I have an HP DV6-7029wm laptop that will only get around 3.3Mbps over wifi. I have Uverse with the 20Mbps plan. Now here is what I have tried and nothing has fixed it.

Had Win 8.1 - Did fresh install to Win 7
Have tried 3 different versions of the Atheros 9485 Chipset Driver
Have swapped wifi adapters from daughters laptop
Disabled wifi security
Turned off Windows Firewall
AT&T swapped out my old gateway for the newest one they have

Now thinking it might be issues between my laptop and uverse gateway, I setup a Hotspot on my Galaxy S5 and used my phones LTE connection and was still only getting around 3.3Mbps. Now my phone will pull upwards of 25Mbps on LTE and the full 20 on my UVerse wifi.

Now the one that confuses me is I have a Cisco USB wifi adapter that I tried. And even with the USB adapter Im still only getting 3.3Mbps.

Any Ideas?

Just to start off, I am COMPLETELY clueless and have no tech savvy whatsoever, so simple language would be appreciated

I've owned this laptop for a little over a year, and all this time I've been able to connect to Wifi without a problem. This morning the icon at the bottom left of the screen told me there was no Internet connection available. when I troubleshot it, it suggested using the Ethernet cord to connect. The Ethernet cord connects them fine, and the internet connection becomes available, but I'm still unable to use the Wifi.

This is an issue with my laptop, because all the other devices in my house are able to connect to the Wifi, and the modem is showing all the appropriate lights and such. I've tried turning it off and on again, but alas, this once that method has failed :/ I've also tried resetting the modem, and it made no difference.

Last night I was uninstalling various programs that I didn't need, and that's the only thing I've done differently to my usual computing habits. I don't think I removed anything unless I knew what it was, but it's possible I accidently removed something important. I don't know if that has any relevance or not, but it's all I can think of as the reason for this.

My laptop is a Toshiba Qosmio, and the system I use is Windows 7.

My modem is Telstra Bigpond.

Please help! D:

Im having problems connecting my laptop (Win. 7) to my network. I am able to connect to my network with various different devices EXCEPT my laptop. There for I've concluded this is not a problem with my network itself. Its something to do with my laptop. I am able to "connect" to my network but says in have "Limited Access". My Ipv4 & Ipv6 say not connected. I've tried connecting via Ethernet cable, but no luck. I've tried everything from restarting my laptop and router to opening command prompt and refreshing. I was just able to connect to internet a few hours ago. Also, I noticed this problem first at a friends on a totally different WiFi network. That is when the problem started. I thought maybe there was something wrong with his network, but that's not the case.

It sounds like your laptop is not being assigned an IP. Try shutting down you laptop, unplug both your modem and router from the wall. Wait about 60 seconds then plug you modem back into your power outlet. Once it is up (all the lights are on) plug in your router. Once your router has completed the reboot then boot your laptop.

Hope it works for you.

Hey guys,

Just a quick one I'm sure most could answer, I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to Wifi, and my router is kicking devices off when we have more than 4, picking and choosing which devices it will allow Wifi too. We often have 3 phones, 2 laptops and 1 PC in the house which need constant connection. What do I do to make this happen?

My Router is a D-Link: DSL-2780, I'm with Talk-Talk in the UK.

Thanks in advance!

Strangest thing happened today. A couple of my devices quit working on my wifi. I'll start with what I have.
Dell inspiron 620 Desktop: Works on wifi and internet
iPad: works on wifi, but doesn't access the internet
HP Laptop: Accesses wifi, but no internet
HP Printer: Accesses wifi
router: CradlePoint CTR35
Everything was working fine this morning. Sometime today, my iPad couldn't access the internet. Naturally, I figured the internet was down, or my modem needed rebooted. I rebooted both my modem and my router. Still no internet on my iPad. Contacted the internet provider, and they said the internet is working fine on their end. Noticed after that, my Desktop is working fine. Went back to my iPad and went into the settings and did a "forget network", and logged back onto my network. Logs in, but no internet. Tried switching to my "guest network", no internet. I can log onto my router via my iPad, and it is showing internet connection, and the clients that are on my network. Later on, I decided to fire up my work Laptop, which was working this morning, and it also can access my network, but no internet connection. I then came back to my desktop and opened my browser and went to my router page. On my desktop, I get a message:

My laptop STILL won't connect to the wifi, my cellphone, printer and other electronics are connected. I have gone through various different steps to connect to the wifi. When contacting hp "support" I was told it is MANDATORY I buy a software warranty to get help troubleshooting. My warranty is not expired I don't understand why I still have to buy separate coverage. I have a paper due in two days. If this is the service hp provides I'll go to apple.

I've recently just bought my laptop and have had wifi issues with it from day 1. After 15-20 minutes the wifi would changed to 'Limited Access' then disconnect. IT would eventually then reconnect after a while.A few days later the same happened then i got "SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEMPTION_NOT_HANDLED (Netwtw02.sys)" error which forced the latop to restart. This has happened about 3 times now. Now it won't even connect to the wifi at all. I know it is not the hub, as there are 2 other laptops, 3 tablets and 3 iphones (not all connected at once) and they don't have this problem. I have tried disabling and then re-enabling the Wireless Adapter but made no difference. Model = HP ENVY 15-ah150sa with Windows 10. Thanks.

HI!
I recently received a wireless modem/router from comcast. We connected it, renamed it also changed the password and it works properly. We can connect our playstation, phones, and other devices to it through the wifi with no problems. My neighbor across the street can connect on his computer with ease also. When I get on my laptop and try to connect. It says that it is connected but its not. What I mean is the little globe does not show up in the bottom right corner of the screen. Even when I open a browser it says it has no internet connection! When I go to the network and sharing center it has (" my computer "---------- unknown network-----X------ internet) and nothing is in color. Then under the little map thing it has a clock and beside that it says trying to identify IP?

I can connect with the neighbors wifi with no problem. I can connect to any and all wifi hotspots also. I have an ethernet cable and as soon as I plug it in. The internet automaticly connects but I dont want that. I pay for a wireless internet for my computer and for some reason cant use it!! Can someone please tell me how to fix my problem?

Also I must say that I know a little about computers but Im not a wiz. So I might need steps on how to fix it. lol
thanks in advance for the help!!

It does the same with all the hotspot except the open ones. I laso tried the Ethernet connection with my wifi but it shows the little logo saying it's connected with a triangle and an exclamation point in it and says the connection is limitited. I used to be able to connect to the wifi without any problems this has just started a few days ago. What should i do?Thank you for the help,Salomé.

can we see an ipconfig /all
have you checked the wireless is switched on - often a physical switch on the pc or a combination of the FN and one of the f keys to toggle

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Hi I just recently bought an Acer Aspire 5250 fro rent a center and for a while I was able to connect to Wifi, but I can't anymore. i have barely downloaded anything or installed anything, so that can't be it, I've googled this problem and everything, i disabled the wireless adapter and re-enabled it and nothing happened. Any clue what DID happen? I'm currently connected to the internet with my Wireless card from my cell phone company.

A:Laptop won't connect to Wifi

Could be loads of things: If you've genuinely not installed anything that may have caused the problem, or mistakenly changed configurations of the laptop or the router, the first thing I'd be doing is checking your wireless channels aren't suffering interference from a nearby neighbour, or a windows update hasn't damaged your connection. There are probably a few other things that might cause the problem, but without any more info we're in the dark, I'm afraid. How to choose the right wireless channel - you do this on your router, the wireless devices pick it up automatically.

My laptop suddenly stopped being able to connect to our wireless internet. All other devices in the house still connect fine including my phone which is what I'm posting this from. It has worked fine almost the entire time I've had the laptop but about a week ago it I booted it up and it couldn't connect to the internet. It says connections are available but when I try to connect it gives the error message "Windows was unable to connect to [my network]". I try to troubleshoot problems and it says "Investigate router or access point issues". Turned my router off and back on, unplugged it for 10 sec, etc. wifi still doesn't work. I've toggled the wifi button on the keyboard, and uninstalled and reinstalled wireless adapters and did a system restore to a point when I know the internet was working. None of that has worked. I did try following some pinging directions I found and when I ping google.com I get the error message "Ping request could not find host google.com. Please check the name and try again". I pinged 4.2.2.2. and the request timed out. 4 packets lost(100%) so I'm wondering if maybe this is where the problem is, I've also wondered if it's possibly a virus?. It's a Samsung RC512 laptop Windows 7, Intel Core i7-2360QM CPU 2.00 GHz. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Hello--

I have a desktop PC running Win7 Ultimate x64 and a Netgear WPN824 v3 wireless router. I also have a Sony Vaio laptop running Win7 Home Premium x64. The laptop is connected to the Internet via the wifi network, but I can not for the life of me connect it to the HomeGroup, which I created on the desktop. I have read every forum and Internet tutorial on fixing this issue to no avail.

The weird thing is, it was previously working -- until about a month ago, when I had to to a hard reset on the router because it was having issues. I changed the name of the wireless network and updated all my devices to connect to it, and everything is connected, but the laptop just won't see the HomeGroup. The PC, on the other hand, CAN see the laptop, but it can not actually connect to it or see any of its files.

Any suggestions to fix this problem would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

A:Laptop won't connect to HomeGroup over wifi

Hello Mister Clemens, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since this is only happening over WiFi, double check using step 3 in the tutorial below to make sure that you have Enable Wireless Isolation unchecked in your Netgear router settings. If checked, it blocks wireless connections from seeing any other connection on the router.

Hope this helps,

Alright, so I have a Dell xps 12 running windows 8.

On my school's campus, there are two wifi options. One is secure with a login, the other is unsecured but with a Web login. Normally I connect to the secure one and have no problem.

However, in one building I've encountered issues connecting. My computer will pick up the signal for both options (and says there is strong signal) , then try to connect to the secure one. It will say "connection is taking longer than usual" and then fail to connect, then say no networks available. I tried resetting the network adapters and it picks up the signal again for a moment, try to connect, and then same problem again.

I can see other people in the room connected to the Internet with no issue. My phone also connects with no problems, and has full signal. I have no idea why my computer won't connect.

Anyone have any advice?

I have been trying to connect to the internet on my laptop via Wi fi when travelling abroad. This can be in hotels or anywhere where Wi fi is offered. My laptop connects easily to Wi fi away from my home when I am in the UK but will not make a connection when abroad. I have tried searching for available b/band signals but none appear. If a code or password from the hotel is required and supplied, still no connection can be made. This seems to have happened since I have upgraded to W10 but may be just a coincidence.
My wife's laptop using W7 connects easily every time.
Can anyone please advise what settings I need, if in fact this is the correct action and advise how this is should be done? Many thanks.

For some reason my windows 8 Hp will not connect to my home wifi network. Has had no problem connecting in the past but yesterday I unplugged my router to move it to another part of my house and ever since then it can't connect. My cell phone and other laptop connect to the internet no problem.
On my Hp it will show a list of wifi networks and my home network is on the list, however, when I try to connect to it and then troubleshoot the problem it says I can't connect to the network because it is hidden. I don't see how thats possible since the network name shows up on the list of nearby wifi networks.
What I've done but hasn't worked:
Reset my router and laptop multiple times.
Tried to manually connect to network.
Forgot the network on my laptop and tried to reconnect.
I don't understand how one day it can connect to the wifi fine and then I unplug it and all of a sudden it can't connect but my other devices can.
Please help me this is very frustrating and I couldn't find a specific answer anywhere else online.

Often with that adapter you need the driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site.

I think that adapter is not compatible with WPA2. Try with no encryption and if that works then try WPA-PSK.

Also, more specific specs on your system would be helpful.

It wouldn't hurt to look for updated driver/software for your wifi device either.

A:cannot connect laptop to wifi, it s asking for PIN code

PIN code can also be called an passcode or access code. It's usually a 8 digit code (all numbers).

If I am correct, on the same screen, it should have a section where you can click " i dont have a PIN, i want to use a security key instead" and that would allow you to use that instead.

Having said that, since you are saying it's at your job, talk to the IT people there.

Hi, I need to please ask that you be patient with me as I have an extremely limited knowledge of computers or laptops, so I am actually struggling to even word this question correctly! I have an HP G60 laptop with Windows XP.

I had WiFi installed at my university digs, and I believe I am the main laptop through which the internet connection runs. My parents have recently had a WiFi (Netgear router) installed on their home computer , but I am unable to connect to the internet through my laptop. i was told that as my laptop IP address was set to my university WiFi connection, all i had to do was reset my laptop's IP address and I would be able to connect to my parents WiFi.. However I am really unsure of how to do this, and am also concerned that if I do so I will be unable to connect my Uni WiFi once I return! Or even if this in indeed the problem!

Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hi everyone,

I was helped here last time very thoroughly, and now I'm back.

I realize this is a pretty minor issue, or it seems like, but i've tried everything, resetting my connection from router to connect to wifi (yes all the buttons are enabled on side of laptop for wifi to be on)

I'm not quite sure what happened, and w/o wifi my laptop is literally useless.

I've tried everything that I know to do to fix it, when I hit "repair" option by right clicking the connection where it normally connects in bottom right, it just gets stuck on "renewing your IP address" but it reads that it's connected to everything, but without any internet function.

PC Specs

Dell latitude e6500
The system specs are:
Windows XP Ver 2002 SP3

Intel Core 2 duo cpu
[email protected]
2.24GHz 1.98GB RAM

A:Laptop won't let me connect to wifi anymore

Go over to your Modem and Wireless Router or if a combo device, and unplug them for 15 seconds and then plug them in. While waiting for all of the lights to come back on the router and modem, restart your computer.
Go to Start/Run and type ncpa.cpl and press enter. In the Network Connections, you should see the Local Area Connection, and your WiFi connection. Right click it, and it is is disabled, Enable it. Then click Connect. You should see available wireless networks in the taskbar by the clock.

Help.

My laptop will not connect to the internet. It is saying Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. When I click Diagnose Connection Problems it states:

Contact the company that provides you Windows XP Product Support. You can also use another computer to visit online support services on the Microsoft website: http://support.microsoft.com/winxp.

Has anyone had this problem? Can you advise on how to correct? Thanks!

I just bought a HP Pavilion dv7-1132nr notebook and it has vista. I have verizon dsl at home, and that works perfectly fine, internet works wirlessly.

I try to connect my laptop to the wifi i have at work and i get a message saying that windows authentification has timed out. I have a bunch of friends there who bring there laptops in and they connect without a problem. I also had the router turned off and turned back on and still no change.

One last thing, everyonce in a while the little cpu screen in the lower right hand side will go from having a red circle on it to flashing the bars as if its connected and then it just stops. And also the internet light on the laptop is lit and is blue.

A:Brand new laptop will not connect to wifi

From what I can tell at first look at the errors you are getting, it appears that it may be a security issue. The router you're trying to connect to has a WPA key associated with it. Make sure that when you try to connect, you are using the correct type of WPA and using TKIP as the encryption type. If you're not sure what type of WPA it is using, you can have them (assuming at least one of them is running vista as well) go to the network and sharing center, click on view status next to the network, then click on wireless properties, followed by the security tab and it will show it to you right there. Also make sure you are typing in the WPA key correctly.

Hi,
My Internet suddenly stopped working on my laptop. I can connect fine on my phone, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with the router. Nonetheless I've tried restarting the router but it didn't help (I've restarted my laptop too).
The windows troubleshooter said I'm connected fine and there's no problems, but I still can't access any Web pages. The icon on the task bar seems to be a monitor with a square in the top left corner rather than the usual connection bars.
I'm not on flight mode and there doesn't seem to be any physical switches on my laptop. I'm using Windows 10 and my Internet hasn't been working for around 24 hours now.
Hopefully someone is able to help me

A:Can connect to WiFi on phone but not laptop

Press the "Windows Button" and "R" simultaneously.
Typ in cmd

A new window will open.
Typ in cd Desktop

Then typ in ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt
Go to your Desktop and open the file "ipconfig.txt".
Copy and paste the content of that file here.

1. You may wish to omit the "Host Name" part, because of your privacy!! (in case your hostname includes real names of you or someone else)
2. If you do already have a file called "ipconfig.txt" on the Desktop, then you may wish to move that file somewhere else, otherwise it is being replaced.

Hi all,

My Dell laptop is running Windows 10.  A few days ago I noticed it was not connected to my home wifi. The wifi card detects all of the local networks including my home router, but when I click to get it to connect, I eventually get the error "Can't connect to this network".

Connection through an ethernet cable works.

The reason I suspect an infection is that my first instinct - to run Malwarebytes was blocked until I did a clean install of the program.  Two objects were detected and removed.

I then tried a system restore, which eventually told me was unsuccessful.  I booted to safemode with command prompt and did the system restore successfully.  However, the connectivity problem persists.

I have tried everything google as suggested for my problem. I have a toshiba satellite L305D which I believe had a virus. I went to Best Buy and bought a WipeDrive CD and cleaned it out completely except for Windows Vista and important programs I needed to keep. I went to connect to the wireless internet and it comes up "Unidentified Network- Local Only" then I repair and it says "There might be a problem with one or more network adapters on this computer," I reset my network, unplugged everything, still local. I clicked "Automatically get a new IP" and that does nothing either. My IP is coming up 169 XXXXX which I know is not a "real" IP address. I already did ipconfig, renew, release, all, I made sure the Local Area Connection was set to "Automatically get IP", everything I found on google as a solution I have tried. Please help!!!!!

Disconnected or remove the network and add it back
Check that wifi driver is okay - check in device manager

Hello my friend has a laptop that will not connect or show any wireless networks. The wireless Icon in the toolbar just has an red x over it. He says he has tried to re install drivers from the manufacturer website but it did not help. I am not sure if he needs to uninstall the ones he has on his laptop at the moment before installing the newer ones or not cause I am sure he did not uninstall them the first time he tried to install new drivers. We attempted to trouble shoot with the windows internal troubleshooting tool for networks but was greeted with the message in the link below. What else should he try.

A:Laptop wont connect to wifi

Is the adapter turned on from the keyboard? does it connect using Ethernet?
Post snip of Device Manager with Network Adapters expanded.
Also a snip of Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections.

This is the preferred, best way to upload an image or a file to a post.

Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums

Press the ALT and PrntScrn keys at the same time, this will capture only the active window to use in Paint or your preferred graphics editor.

You may also upload a photo or image you already have on your PC, as you would a file, without using the Snipping tool.
