Unable to connect multiple devices to home wifi

Q: Unable to connect multiple devices to home wifi

Hello,

Switched over the internet service provider to Time Warner. We are using the same router we have used before the switch (which was also with Time Warner service provider) and everything was working FINE before the switch. But now, with the new modem from service provider something is wrong -- My roommate is unable to connect her laptop, and her phone to the wifi even though the network is being detected. I can only connect to my laptop, which was the laptop I had opened to verify connectivity when the Technician was there. Also, my I-phone is unable to connect to the network even though it detects it. It's very odd considering we had the technician come out to resolve this issue in the first place. Could it be that the DHCP server has been turned off, so it's allowing only one device to connect to the one IP address on the modem?
Or do we need to delete the wifi networks off of our computers and other devices? My roommate tried that on her devices and still didn't connect. Please help.

A: Unable to connect multiple devices to home wifi

Do you know if your new modem includes WiFi? Is so, when you tested the connection with the technician present, did they have you connect wirelessly to your existing wireless router or to the modem itself?

Assuming you are running some version of Windows on the computer that can connect, please go into the Windows DOS/Command prompt screen and run an IPCONFIG /ALL command. Then copy and paste the complete results of the command here.

I hope that this is the correct location to post this issue, and that this request for assistance finds you in good health.

The core issue in my home is that I cannot connect to the WiFi router, an all-in-one modem+router provided by my ISP. The brand is Arris, if that helps ascertain what I'm talking about. Now, I run an Ethernet cord from the router to my computer: the computer works just fine. As of a day ago, though, none of the home's Apple devices will connect to the network, despite reboots, password retypes, and shouting at them. Each device (two phones and an ipad) can identify my network, but they cannot join. Additionally, there is an old laptop that cannot connect anymore.

Here's the wrinkle as near as I can see it. The Nexus 7 connects just fine via the WiFi, and it has not needed to reboot or to have the password retyped.

The aforementioned devices have suddenly stopped working, and despite searching these and other forums, my Google-fu has not yielded any answer to this particular question AFAIK. I have seen others post this information, so though I'm not sure it's relevant, I'll provide it just in case. Thank you for your time and attention in this matter, whatever you feel that you can and have spared.

Hello,

I have a strange problem. My laptop suddenly stopped connecting to the wifi network (comcast) last night. Interestingly my lenovo tablet, mobile phone and another laptop are able to connect to my wifi network without any issues.

I have also tried the following steps to troubleshoot:
1. switching off the router for 30 secs
2. Resetting the router
4. Restarting the computer
5. Releasing the ip and disconnecting the computer from the network followed by a reconnect.
6. Manually attempting to connect to the wifi network

Note: Interestingly I was able to connect to a neighbor's unsecured wifi network so I am presuming the wireless adapter is working.

I have run out of ideas on how to trouble shoot this further. could any one kindly help ? I have pasted below the windows Network Diagnostics report

As it says on the tin really! I am an absolute non technically minded person so have no idea how to even start trying to fix this problem. A few weeks ago our router quite happily let multiple devices attach wirelessly to the internet at once but in the last couple of weeks it has started only allowing one device at a time to connect to the internet. If say my partners work laptop is connected then our home laptop/iPad can see the wireless router but it will not allow them to connect to the internet anymore. Can anyone help me to try and sort this please...I can use my computer for basic things but am in no way technically minded so please be very clear and simple with any help you are able to give.

I can not connect to the home WiFi network using this laptop, yet I can connect this laptop to other public networks using the WiFi.

I can connect this laptop tp the home network using cable to the Netgear Broadband wireless router, and I can connect to the home network with other devises ie ipads, ipods and another windows XP laptop.

I had McAfee installed which was not working and I have uninstalled it.

I use a Dell 2010 laptop. I have consistently been able to use wifi. On 1 Jan I moved into a new apartment shared with a friend. My friend allows me to use the wifi by sharing the password. My friend's computer is a MacBook. But I cannot access wifi! Why is that? I am able to see the available connections and to see the one that my friend is using. But I am unable to access it. I tried manually adding the new wifi network. It shows up with "limited access" -- it does not enable use of internet.

I have been unable to connect to anything on my wired network, for about the last week. I don't remember making any changes however, I just became unable to connect.

I having done a little troubleshooting.

1. I can connect to the shares of my Windows Home Server if I use the IP address. The name does not resolve.

2. Flushed DNS and restarting DNS server. Flushing DNS works on one client, to allow browsing by the name & restarting DNS works on the other. However neither works after a restart.

3. Only my Wifi clients are experiencing this issue. My wired clients, desktops, PS3, Xbox 360, and Boxee can connect perfectly.

This issue is not limited to my server. I can't connect to shares on my desktop, nor print to my wired printer.

Some network background:

I have DSL through CenturyLink and have a Linksys E2000 router.

Sent a test page from one laptop to the printer at 6:36pm, it finally printed at 6:48pm....

About a week ago, our cable internet connection went out. Before I had a chance to reboot the modem & router, my 11 year old decided to completely reset the router to factory settings! Ugh! This caused several issues: my home network is now gone, only a unsecured factory network is available. When I try to plug my laptop into the router via ethernet cord (in order to login to router and setup secure network) my computer will not recognize the router and won't connect to internet. I tried troubleshooting with my cable provider and they say it's in my computer (IP address will not reset) and he recommended I replace my network card. However, today when I brought my laptop to work, it will instantly recognize the wifi at work. So is it really my network card that is causing issues? Please help, I'm desperate and not tech too tech savvy!

There are multiple websites that I cannot connect to, facebook, rottentomatoes, youtube, to name a few. Others seem perfectly fine. A few seem okay, but seem to be running slowly.

This is the case for both my computer (on which I am running Windows 7), which is connected directly to the router, *and* mobile devices which are connected wirelessly.

On my computer I have tried using several different browsers to no avail, but when I used the TOR browser to proxy, I was able to access them.

I apologize if this has been asked, but I haven't been able to find anything this specific.

Thank you.

Okay, so I moved my wireless router to a more central location in my house (I got low signal in my room) and since then I've been able to connect to the network but only with limited access. Trying to connect to a webpage results in the "DNS lookup failed" error message (Chrome). My brother's computer had had the same issue, and the PlayStation 3 has had connectivity issues also, however I have been able to use my phone with the WiFi without any issues.

I've tried unplugging/turning the router on and off to no effect. Using a different router does not change the situation either. When I try to diagnose the network connection, it says that it could not identify the problem. Any ideas?

Some information:

Both computers run Windows 8
My phone is a Nokia Lumia 620 running WP8
The WiFi status window states that IPv4 and IPv6 have no internet access
My computer uses a Qualcomm Atheros AR5B125 wireless network adapter and says it is working correctly. The adapter is set to work with IPv4/6. IPv4 is set to obtain IP & DNS addresses automatically.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Basically, what's happened is that after transferring my old PC's data onto my new one, and putting that one in place of my old one, therefore hooking up my modem to it, my wireless devices have been having trouble connecting to the router. Everything's hooked up fine, and it was working perfectly before, but now my devices such as my laptop and Droid Pro can SEE the router (As in connect to it and say that they are getting excellent signal strength), but when I try to open my browser, it asks as if I'm not connected to anything at all. The PC that's wired to the modem through the router works fine, however.

Hi,

I am experiencing a problem with my Windows 8.1 Laptop connecting to the local network through wireless. Here is what I have tested/know:

When I use the W8.1 laptop and try to connect via WiFi to my home router I can either never connect (90% of the time) or the connection is very slow and drops after a short time (10% of the time).Problem has been apparent for a month or so but seems to be getting worse. If I set up my 4G phone as a WiFi Access Point I can connect to internet via W8.1 Laptop without problem. If I connect the laptop via a cable to my home router there is also no problem. The problem seems worse when I am on battery power but also exists when plugged in (but I cannot confirm this, just something I have noticed).

There is an Android phone, iPhone, Nexus, Kindle and a Windows 7 laptop (on it now) in the house all able to connect fine via WiFi to my home router. The problem exists even if I disable all above devices (I can check my router and see no devices are connected via wireless).I have used a WiFi Scanner to confirm there is no other network using the same channel. On the W8.1 Laptop I have tried to forget the network and reAdd it. I have also run ipconfig /renew but nothing is able to get me back.I noticed that in available Network connections when I reboot the Laptop I sometimes see (listed along with my Wifi) a connection called 'Hidden Network' but I don't know what that is.The W8.1 laptop is an Acer Aspire V7 (64bit)The router is a Sky Hub

Hello,

My laptop (an HP Pavilion dv5 using Windows 7) won't connect to my home wifi. Both my iphone and my ipad does without any problems. I've tried removing the wifi network from my laptop and adding it again. When I type in my password for the wifi it tells me there's a key mismatch although I'm 100% certain the password is correct. I kept typing it in and eventually it just tells me it cannot connect to my laptop.

I tried a system restore but my laptop wasn't able to complete it. It told me the restore failed.

About a week ago, my laptop just stopped connecting to my wifi. I have an HP Pavilion dv6 running Windows 7 (64-bit). I've had this laptop for about four years, if I'm not mistaken, and I have never had problems such as this before. It can detect neighboring connections, but it just doesn't detect my personal wifi. The router/modem is not the problem because I can connect to them with my other devices just fine (Samsung Galaxy S3/S4). I am able to connect via Ethernet cable, but of course this is a terrible inconvenience. Cuddling my router is not something I feel I'd want to do just to get some work done.

I have tried:
- restarting my router (Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router model WNDR3400)
- restarting my laptop
- system restore
- uninstalling and reinstalling wireless drivers (originally was Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN, when reinstalled it changed to Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000)
- changed router settings (router channel, password/security options)
- manually connecting through Control Panel (SSID is not set to be hidden, but still couldn't be found)
- troubleshooting (nothing was found)
- updating basically everything (router firmware, drivers, software, etc.,)

Long story short, none of this worked. I feel as though I have tried everything I could find within multiple forums and endless internet surfing, but I am simply out of ideas at this point.
The connection on my other devices is slow, but they connect nonetheless.

DISCLAIMER: This is my first post so I apologize for any mistakes I make.

Hello all,

Yesterday morning upon waking up I discovered that the Wifi in my house was no longer working. It had worked fine the day before but stopped working completely overnight. At first I thought it might have been Charter Communications (My ISP) throttling the internet due to our bandwidth (My Mom watches a TON of Netflix). But the internet works fine with our two home desktops. It is the same connection but devices such as my iPhone 4, Nexus 7, iPad 3, iPhone 5, etc. are unable to get internet access. They are able to connect to the wifi and you are able to see the bars, but when trying to connect to the internet you get a network error message.

To try to fix this problem I ran measurmentlab (test for throttling), my virus scan (McAfee), and malwarebytes. I was unable to see any noticeable change in my problem.

I am hoping someone might know what I am doing wrong, but I haven't been able to find a thread that has helped me out thus far.

Thanks for reading, Nick

I got a new DSL connection in my apartment today. Router was set up fine and most devices are working (my iPhone, my friend's laptop and my old laptop). However I can't seem to connect to WIFI with my primary laptop (Windows 7).

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network drivers.

I tried turning off the router and turning on again.

I also tried resetting the TCP/IP stack with "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" and restarting. (Not entirely sure what that does but I read it somewhere). No improvement.

I can provide two ipconfig logs. The first one is from my old laptop which is successfully connected to the WIFI network:

Hi there,

I have a new problem that has just cropped up today. I am no longer able to connect to public wifi or my phone's wireless hotspot. My laptop either will not connect or connect with limited access. It has connected without issue in the past and as soon as I returned home it connected to my wifi here.

What I did notice is I am connected to an unidentified network with no internet access in addition to my home wireless network:
Specs:
Acer Aspire S7 392
Windows 8.1 64 bit
Intel Dual Band Wireless 7260 (driver updated)
Disabled my firewall and antivirus

I just connected to my phone's hotspot again and here is what I am coming up with:
Attachment 57082

And when I run ipconfig/renew
Attachment 57083

Any ideas what could be causing this?

I tried restarting the computer, updating the driver software, making sure it wasn't in airplane mode, and troubleshooting. Nothing worked. What should I try next?

Hi Guys,

Simple issue: Paypal.com won't load on any device connected in my home, pc, laptop, mobile phone etc.

This can only lead me to believe it's a router realted issue though I can't seem to find a solution. I've factory resetted the router, changed it for a new one etc. and still paypal.com is unaccessable.

If I run a 'cmd' ping test on the URL, it attempts four connections and fails. The windows host files are fine and I've tried turning of all firewalls, anti-viruses, malwares for a short time to test. Still fail.

Does anyone know a solution I can try?

Another odd thing is it's showing the computer as a desktop, but it's a laptop the same model as mine but her's is still windows vista.

I updated to Win 7 with a full/clean install so is there a driver that I should re-install or update?

A:Unable to connect to bluetooth devices

Depending on make and model of some mobile phones, phone manufacturer may not have or will not update the driver for those types of phones for windows 7. They want you to buy a new phone...same thing happened when vista rolled out and a lot of printers wouldn't work with the OS. You can call you mobile service provider and ask them about the compatibility issue.

After several years of running windows updates on my HP Pavilion computer and going from Windows 7 original to Windows 10 upgrade, the computer became unacceptably slow.  Staples center recommended the only fix was to go back to original Windows 7 configuration.  They restored the original system configuration to Windows 7.  The current problem is that I can no longer connect Bluetooth devices (IPhone and external speaker).  I read the tech report that this problem could be resolved with a MS hotfix (407159_intl_x64.  The Staples center technician helped to download and install the prescribed HOTFIX but when he attempted to RUN the file, a message of incompatible came up.  So I need to know what to do next. Contacted Microsft today and they said they could do nothing if the Hotfix didn;t work and suggested i contact HP. I believe I have all of the latest drivers and there are not alerts in the device manager, and the comuter recognizes my IPHONe but will not connect.

Hi Guys,

I am unable to connect to my network devices since I upgrade to Windows7 Pro with a new laptop. I am using a peer to peer connection, meaning just my laptop and the device with a static IP address set on my laptop (192.168.2.40) and a static ip address set on the device (192.168.2.47). I am using a CAT5 network cable to connect to the device (I have tried both straight and cross cable - both failed).

My local area network adaptor will show unidentified network, under properties -> status, it states No Network Access. There is no issue to connect to the internet. Just that my job requires me to often do a peer to peer connection with the device.

I didnt have this problem with windows xp.

Anyone can help? Thanks.

A:Unable to connect to network devices with Windows7

Hi Guys,

Please ignore the thread. I have tested that even though the network adaptor shows no network access, I am still able to web into the device. Initially I presumed that it couldn't as the network daptor icon shows an exclaimation mark.
That exclaimation mark was actually referring to internet connection issue.

Thanks.

I'm at wits end, and if I had hair, I'd be pulling it out.

I'm running a home network with a new Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router. I have an external drive connected, and running WPA2-PSK (AES) security. My ISP is Shaw (Canada).

I'm running several devices off this network successfully.

-Win 7 hard wired
-PS3
-Wii
-Win XP Professional
-Win XP home
-three cell phones (two BB, android)
-Samsung Galaxy 10.1
-several ipods
-Win 7 wireless*

*this is the problem child. When the network is booted, connections are established with no problem. When other items enter the network (particularly the ipods), the Win 7 wireless loses connectivity. I get the little circle around the network icon, and 'limited connectivity', cycling through with "No Network Access". When crashed, ping gets no responses. No other devices have any issues connecting or staying connected.

I try turning off and on wireless on the computer, disconnecting and connecting to the network again, nothing works. The ONLY solution is to reboot the router and modem. This will gain me connectivity for a while, but often, as soon as another device enters the network, it crashes again. It's exceptionally frustrating.

I've tried to designate specific IP addresses via MAC addresses in the router settings. I've tried to disable the IPv6, nothing helps.

I've been reading and reading various guesses about what's happening. The latest try has me disabling "Computer Browser" from S... Read more

A:Connection Drops when other devices connect to home network

Anyone... anything???

Just to add a little more info.. I thought it was just when the ipods entered the network, but last night, a BB entered the network (pretty much everything else running smoothly) and it crashed the Win7 wireless again. Very frustrating.

A:Connect to Multiple WIFI APs with single NIC

I have my home network set up with one wireless modem and then 6 WAPs. The way I got mine to work seamlessly was to use the same SSIS, password and security. I do use different channels so I don't get interference. It works great. I need so many because I have a farm with 3 buildings and some CB walls with rebar that doesn't let the wifi signal pass thru.

Hi all.

Can you help me configure my Win10 to automatically connect to multiple wifi networks?

I have wifi at home so when I get to the office I have to configure the "manage wifi settings" on my laptop, click "forget" my home wifi, and manually enter the office wifi password. I repeat the same process when I get home from the office or use the wifi in my brother's house. I had this on my Windows 7 but can't figure out how to in Win10.

Minor issues, I know, but still a pain. TIA

I have a toshiba portege and I am unable to connect to my wireless network at home. All my roommates can and two days ago I could! I haven't changed anything and none of my roommates or landlord has done anything. When I try to "diagnose" the problem I get the notice that there is a problem with the adapter. I have tried disabling everything and restarting it. The wireless switch is on. The security info is all correct and we have tried the restarting of the router.
Any ideas?
Cheers!

My laptop will not connect to the new home wifi for some reason. I have never connected to this wifi before. When I put in the current wifi password which we made ourselves it says it is incorrect. However when I put in the original password that came with the router it just says it "can't connect". I don't know if that means anything, but the main issue is that the laptop will not connect to the wifi when all of my other devices had no issue.

theres often a physical switch or a combination of the FN and one of the F keys to toggle the wireless on/off

A:Unable to connect to WiFi?

Hi: If your notebook is missing the wireless card driver, there should be a device listed in the device manager under an Other Devices category named Network Controller. Please post the hardware ID for the network controller device so I can figure out what driver it needs. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the Network Controller device. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Network Controller window. Now you will see a Property drop down list and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

Hello!

First, im using

-PLANET USB WLAN Stick WL-U356L.
- The router which is causing my headache is ThomsonST780 - SpeedTouch.
- OS is Windows 7 32bit

So here goes the problem - I connect normally to the router with my wifi stick - its around 50-60% signal. Im on internet - everything's fine. But suddenly it just: 1. Disconnects me. 2. Says - No Internet Access (I cant go to internet nor access the router configuration) - basically disconnected. I try to connect again and then it says "Unable to connect"
For absolutely no reason. It keeps saying unable to connect for 5 mins - 10 mins - 20 mins - 30minutes. Completely random! And then suddenly I can connect again.

What I noted is that - When I survey via Win7 default connection panel - after my problem occured - after it says unable to connect the router disappears for lets say 5-10 secs and then i can see it again but same problem - cant connect for random time.

What I tried so far is:

Updating my Windows
Tried it on XP via WiFi - same it wont connect (just on XP it says that connection is no longer in range)
Changed the channel on which router works
Tried connecting with my integrated wifi card in laptop - same thing.

Please guys its very important for me to fix this so if you could help me! Thanks

Hi there,

My neighbour has a problem which I've tried to help with, but have to say am stumped....

He is running a cable modem into a wireless router (Belkin), but since changing ink cartridges on the printer (maybe a coincidence) has lost his internet connection.

The PC (desktop running Xp) connects to the network, but there is no internet connection. I've been there with my laptop and all is well.

It also seems that every time you try to do something with network connections etc, the PC freezes the window/app and you have to reboot/log off and on.

I've never seen this before, but am thiniking pehaps the network card is done for.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
BJB

A:Unable to connect to Net via WiFi

Can't think of any reason changing the ink cartridges should effect the internet connection.

If I understand the problem:

Cable Modem --------> Belkin Router ---------> Desktop
No internet connection for the desktop.

Are you sure the Desktop is connecting to the Belkin? Can he access the Belkin's user interface from the desktop? If he can acccess the Belkin, then the card and cable is probably OK.

Did he try connecting directly to the cable modem to see if that works?

If you connected wireless, try connecting your laptop by the same ethernet cable to see if that works?

Could you supply the followong information for the desktop?

Taken from a JohnWill post.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands.

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Which web browser are you using? If you are using internet explorer, do a reset by going to tools, internet options, advanced, reset, ok, then start browser again. Make sure there are no proxies set that would interfere.

Also check any security software or antivirus, they can cause this problem many times.

it may be that the hardware in the HCL PC does not support WPA-PSK - depending on how old - but also may just need a driver update

Whats the exact make and model of the HCL - see if a later driver is available from the manufacturers website

I had WiFi installed at my university digs, and I believe I am the main laptop through which the internet connection runs. My parents have recently had a WiFi (Netgear router) installed on their home computer , but I am unable to connect to the internet through my laptop. i was told that as my laptop IP address was set to my university WiFi connection, all i had to do was reset my laptop's IP address and I would be able to connect to my parents WiFi.. However I am really unsure of how to do this, and am also concerned that if I do so I will be unable to connect my Uni WiFi once I return! Or even if this in indeed the problem!

A:Can't connect to Wifi on home network but everyone else can

I think its a security issue.
1) Check the password you put in and make sure its written correctly with the right case (lowercase/uppercase).
2) Disable any 3G/4G connections if you have any.

If that doesn't work giive me more information about your network:
1) General network layout (two computers, one laptop/one desktop, w/dsl modem to a residential gateway, etc)
2) Also, tell me what security mechanism you have on your wireless access point (WEP, WPA, WPA2). If you're using CCMP/AES and you have an older computer then you may not be able to use them together.

My laptop suddenly became unable to connect to my home wifi. When I try, it tries to connect for a few seconds and then i get the message "can't connect to this network". until this happened i connected to it without problems. other laptops (housemates) can still connect to it as always without problems. my laptop can still, as, always, connect without problems to all other wifis. I've tried updating windows, then restoring, i upgraded to windows 8.1, i tried changing the security settings, rebooting the wifi, all the troubleshooting i could find on my computer. any ideas? is it more likely to be a problem with the wifi or with my laptop?

A:windows 8.1 can't connect to home wifi

in windows 8
forget the wireless network
so that you reconnect and have to re-enter the password
if still a problem

turn the router off for 5 mins and backon again - try again
if still a problem

try removing the password from the router and see if it will then connect
if it does then put the password backon

Hello

I have recently up-graded my laptop from 8 to 8.1. Since that time, the laptop will not automatically connect to my home wifi. If I try to connect manually, it will say "unable to connect to network" and that's it, no more clues! The only way I can connect is by selecting 'restart' and then it will re-boot and connect automatically. If I 'shut-down' after use (or hibernate) it will not re-connect until I have selected 're-start' which is time consuming and annoying!

Any ideas? Thanks

This is most likely a driver problem but we need more info in order to find the correct driver.

Extra info:
- wifi light is on on laptop.
- can see other wifi network connections from neighborhood, but not my home one.
- when I manually type name of home network it says "network already installed", but still won't let it appear.
- iPhone and iPad don't have problems connecting to wifi network.
- iPhone, iPad and said PC all connected on same network for weeks in same room, never a conflict issue.

Couldn't sort it...please let me know if you have a trick.
Much appreciated.

First try powering your PC off and on. If that does not help, reboot your router and/or data modem (power them off & on). I have had my router stop working with one device while still working fine with others, a reboot fixed it.

I have a 4 year old Asus laptop that has been great through out the years. My son installed Skype and now it doesn't connect to the wireless network in my house on boot up. I have uninstalled Skype, but the problem still persists.
I have to run the trouble shooter and applied the fix it suggests. The problem found is, "Wireless capability is turned off." Applying this fix works every time until the machine is put to sleep or powered down, then it has to be done all over again. Curiously, when I press Fn + F2 I can disconnect from the wireless network, but when I press it again, it does nothing. I have to run the trouble shooter to connect again.

I have updated all my drivers directly from Intel and have made sure that the correct services and their depencies are all started.  Nothing seems to work.
Another Problem Found that the Trouble Shooter detects is, "A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken." I have tried to fix this problem, but have not been successful.  As far as I can tell, the cables are fine.  I don't know if the two problems are related, I would think so.
Any suggestions on how to automatically connect to my wireless network without having to run the trouble shooter would be great. Thanks.

A:Can't Automatically Connect To Home WiFi

Another Problem Found that the Trouble Shooter detects is, "A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken."
The above problem just means you don't have the Ethernet cable plugged in. If you do have the Ethernet plugged in, then you have a problem though!

For the above problem and the wireless issue I would do a System Restore to before Skype was installed, and see if that fixes it.

My workstation is running Windows 7 Professional

I cannot connect to the internet after using adwcleaner to remove the Ads by Advertise from my browser.

At that point, Chrome presented this message:

DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

So I did a Google search for that phrase and tried various recommended actions, including various ipconfig commands from the cmd window as an Admin.  No luck.

Then followed instructions to change the TCP/IPv4 DNS settings to use 8.8.8.8 and alt 8.8.4.4  Still no luck.

Read some threads the that Winsock settings in the registry may be corrupt. Referred to a MS too called FixIT.  Instructions said to use msinfo32 to check Components > Network > Protocol and make sure various Titles were present. If not, run FixIT.  FixIT was supposed to delete all entries and then replace the missing ones. Didn't work. It only deleted. And now. I get this message when trying to connect and can not longer connect to my Wifi.

DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET

Did more searching and found a list of tools to help repair Winsock issues. Ran these three utilities, none of which helped. Maybe Winsock is not the issue. Maybe I used these incorrectly. I don't know. I am pretty discouraged that I have created a digital Gordian Knot.

Complete Internet Repair
Winsock Fix
WinsockReset

Finally decided to come here for help.

Hello, I'm having some wifi issues. In the past few weeks I've only been able to use the internet on my laptop when connected via ethernet, despite having used the same wireless, router, laptop, etc perfectly fine for years!

When I first start up my laptop, I can see the list of my available connections. I press connect for my usual home router and then it will say "Windows was unable to connect to blahblahblah". And then the list will have a red cross and claim no connections are available.

If I press troubleshoot problem, Windows Network Diagnostics says to "investigate router or access point issues", which involves turning the device off (done this several times). When I select "check to see if problem is fixed", it thinks for a bit then says "Windows cannot resolve your wireless connectivity issue".

Please can you help?

A:Windows unable to connect to Wifi

Welcome to BC. !

Have you Reset the router ?....this usually involves inserting the end of a paperclip into a tiny hole located on the router itself......google the name of the router and it will show you where that hole is.
The word Reset should be written directly above/beside the hole.

To do this, press and hold the Reset button for 10 seconds. NOTE: Resetting your router to its default factory settings will also reset your router's password. The router's default password is “admin” as for the username, just leave the field blank.

I'm unable to connect with some Hotel wifi's but many others there's not an issue. The hotels where I can not connect sees the wifi and says it connects, but the browse and everything else says it's not connected. When connected to many Hotels a splash page will appear for acknowledgements or passwords, but no splash pages appear when I can not connect. I have not updated or know that I need to update my wifi drivers, but the Hotels I'm having issues with are not the ones with the newest routers and my home wifi is the latest technology.

I've had issues in the past and I do not remember any of the solutions. Would flushing the DNS help? I'm running Win 8.1.

Thank you

A:Unable to connect to wifi at some hotels and able to with many others

Some of it will depend how the hotel manages their network. Some use passwords, some use splash screens and some just have open networks. Some splash redirects don't work right away and take a couple minuets to come up. specially if its a small hotel and its check in time. Other redirects don't work with some browsers like Chrome. Last, try manually entering in a website in the address bar to trigger the redirect.

Hi
I've searched the web endlessly trying to solve this problem with one of my laptops - without any luck at all. Hoping someone here is able to assist.

My main PC, 2 laptops, an iPhone and an iPad all connect to my home wifi network. All worked perfectly until 3 days ago.

The 2 laptops and my PC all run Windows 8.1 (all updated). 3 days ago my Toshiba Qosmio stopped being able to connect to my home network. All other devices still connect perfectly.

The Qosmio doesn't detect my wifi network. I immediately went to the network adapter's (Qualcomm Atheros) website and downloaded the latest driver. Installed it and for a brief (very brief) time it could once again detect and connect to the network. Last 3 days unable to either detect or connect.

It detects other networks fine, and has no problems connecting to any other network - except mine (doesn't even detect mine anymore). It connects to the iPhone (when used as a hotspot) without any issues.

I've uninstalled and re-installed the new driver, re-booted the wireless router (several times), re-set the router to factory settings, used Windows trouble shooter, checked & deleted the netsh profiles. Re-booted the laptop a dozen + times, disabled (& uninstalled software) for the laptop's Bluetooth.

It simply stopped working.

I've tried everything I can find on the web - without any success at all. I've had the laptop sitting only a few cm from the router.
Not sure where else I can go with this now... Read more

Hey all!

Few days ago I got Acer V5-531. On this laptop, I can easily connect to wireless networks, but my home one. I could do it on my old laptop with no problems. How is it possible to solve this? It's getting quite annoying, especially knowing that this is the only network I can't connect to. In case with this network, it prompts password and then says "Unable to connect".

What have I tried

Air Mode is off
Updating/rolling drivers back
Resetting the router once (owned by neighbor, thus, I cant perform all maintenance on it)
router lights are on
pw is correct
wireless switch is on
What else can be done?
Thanks all!

Ever since I got internet home service with Charter, I have been unable to connect to public hotspots. or rather I can connect for about 15 sec, and then my computer automatically disconnects. This never happened when I had home service with Verizon. Is there a setting that needs to be changed on my HP?

A:unable to connect to public wifi

Do you actually get connected and are able to see a web page at a public hotspot? Have you made SURE your firewall is properly configured to allow you to connect to the hotspot? Perhaps you've restricted the connection to a specific IP address subnet?
Let's see this when you're at home, and again when you try to connect to a public hotspot.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

I try to connect to hotspot in friends phone for file transfer from WIFI.
But since my friends data connection is off, and when i try to connect , it shows me "no internet access" and wifi doesnot get connected .
After turning on-off wifi multiple times (around 15-20 times), sometimes it gets connected . But it never gets connected in 1 shot .
Is it compulsory to have internet access to connect to a hotspot?
Is it bug or feature of windows ?
I use lumia 640xl lte with latest windows 10 Anniversary update.

Hi all, My friend asked me to look at his laptop as he had an error message relating to a .dll file. This error box would pop up roughly 100 hundred times during loading. I managed to get rid of some of the malware on the computer, including Greener Web. Since then the .dll error message has stopped, but i'm unable to access the internet via WiFi. Can anyone help? I took my work laptop home for the first time yesterday. It wouldn't connect to the home wifi, but it does connect to other networks including work and McDonald's. It's not the modem, all our other devices work well with the home wifi and I reset the modem just in case. I've changed the proxy settings, which allowed me to connect to networks outside of work but no luck at home. I've allowed all my browsers through the firewall, even tried with the firewall off for a bit. I reset the tcp/in and winsock, didn't work. I have an Atheros AR5007 802 11b/g wifi adapter which is up to date and has been reset.

A:PC does not connect to home wifi (Windows Vista)

Also: When looking at the wireless network connection status, it says 3,000+ bytes sent and none received. I tried the "automatically acquire new IP settings option" and it says there is still a problem & that my modem/router is unavailable. A diagnostic test performed yesterday said there is an antispyware product installed that is not protecting the system but no infections were detected. This antispyware product is the last thing I can think to have caused this.

Hello, I am having troubles connecting my laptop to my wireless router. Currently, I am hardwired to my internet (totally defeating the purpose of having a laptop...). My computer sees the network, but when I try to connect it, it says "UNABLE TO CONNECT", yet I can connect to other networks... All the other computers in the house along with game consoles connected just fine once I put in our password. My patience is running low on this issue. Please help!

Until yesterday everything was normal but now my home wifi doesn't show up on the list of available networks on laptop but I can see other networks from my neighborhood. However my home wifi shows up on other devices and I can connect to it.

I have tried going in the safe mode but no luck. Still won't show up.

Don't know what to do. Please help.
