My HP ProBook 4540s show Internet connection yet my browsers won't surf the internet.

Q: My HP ProBook 4540s show Internet connection yet my browsers won't surf the internet.

I have my hotspot turn on on my Verizon Note 4.

I renewed my nbtstat on the cmd and release the icon fig and nothing.
This is an emergency. I need to choose my players for my footbfootball fantasy for the EPL.

Please help!

ipconfig/flushdns
nbtstat -R
nbtstat -RR
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset
I tried those commands and nothing. And yes I restarted the computer.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults: netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults: netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.
I tried that also.

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc

lets see the following please

ipconfig /all

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the information above those entries

For Windows 8
To open a Cmd Prompt or an Administrator Cmd prompt from the Desktop.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/open-an-elevated-command-prompt-in-windows-8/
Use Win + X and choose Command Prompt or Command Prompt (Admin) from the list.
For windows version, XP, Vista, W7
Hold the Windows key and press R

Now type CMD

Now press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):
In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt
It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.

I'm having issues with my internet connection. If I'm watching video online or just sometimes after a while I lose connection and am not able to use any browser to surf the web, even though it says I'm connected and if I'm downloading, it continues to work fine, but I can't surf the web. The only remedy is to restart my computer. I've tried all kinds of things to troubleshoot the issue, but nothing works. I've also reset the ip address in the command window, and reset the winsock, but no luck. There's nothing wrong with the hardware though. I've been banging my head against the wall trying to figure this out. thank you for your input.

Attempted to up-date to Windows 10. Couldn't do it. Microsoft (MS) Tech tried to do it and couldn't do it. It seems there are some security tools that must be removed as they are incompatable with Windows 10. MS tried to remove and couldn't do it. He said they were on the mother board and when he tried to remove them they just kept coming back so once again he couldn't do it. He said contact HP and they could do it. Unable to find anybody at HP that can do it. As you can see nobody can do it so I guess it just cannot be done. That is unless some fine person out there has discovered a way to do it. If thats the case please tell me ho wo do it.

I have Verizon FiOs wireless internet throughout the house, I've connected before and got on the internet. There are other laptops in the house working wirelessly and doing fine. Mine is not working, even when I plug the hardwire in. I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop and I show an internet connection on my toolbar ( the globe is on indicating internet), and when I click on Internet Explorer, it says cannot display the webpage. Ive diagnosed connection problems numerous times and it still will not work. PLEASE HELP ME!! Ive called Verizon and they walked me through everything possible and determined its a problem with my laptop, not the network. I cant get Dell support over the phone due to my warranty ran out last year. Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong? Thanks-- Derek A.

Hello! My ProBook 4540s was working fine until a half hour ago, when I unplugged it to move it and then attempted to plug it back in, and it stopped charging.  When plugging in the power cord (that came with the ProBook when I bought it around 18 months ago), the light above the power jack (and no other lights) flashes white 9 times. I've tried following this fix I found on Google: 1. Turn off the notebook2. remove the battery3. remove the charging adapter4. press + hold the power button for 40 seconds5. insert the charging adaptor only6. press the power button and it supposedly continues but I get stuck at this point, because even plugged in, my ProBook won't start up without the battery in also. Is this a know problem/is there a fix for this?

It is unclear on the HP website if this model supports W10 -  HP has not tested your PC model for upgrade to Windows 10.If your Windows 7 or 8 PC was manufactured before August 2013 or is running Windows XP or Windows Vista, HP cannot confirm it can be upgraded to Windows 10.  Can anybody offer an advice if the 4540S supports the W10 upgrade and if so any advice on what may be causing the error. ThanksJohn

I have a new ProBook 4540s notebook that I shut down over the weekend. I am not sure if I put it into hibernate, sleep, or what as I am still getting use to it. When I tried to turn it on (not plugged in) I got nothing. So I plugged in the power cord and hit the power button again. All it did was the LED above the cord plug blinked about 8 times and nothing else. I let it "charge" overnight and tried again in the morning. Nothing but a blinking LED. I Googled the problem and it said to take the battery out, unplug, and hold the power button down for 20 seconds. I plugged it back in but left the battery out, and still the same thing - flashing LED. HELP! Thanks.

A:the touchpad of probook 4540s i5 freezes after sometime

Hello zamsam,

I understand that your touchpad will freeze.

Do a hard reset.
Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.

This should reset the hardware in the computer.

As you power it back on tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.
Run the startup test.

This will test all the hardware in the system and detect any problems.

If the entire test passes, turn off the computer.
As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.

When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.

My laptop is running Windows 10 64-bit.

For the past few weeks my laptop has been turning off unexpectedly.

I've tried with battery only. With battery and power cable and with battery removed and only power cable.

I am using the machine normally and then screen just goes black and power offs - no restart, no hibernation, no shut down. Just instantaneously off.

It's not overheating. Could it be a fan issue?

I don't know - but it's getting quite irritating as I often have many apps open and many files open on each app and takes me 30 mins to get back to where I left off.

My computer runs on vista and since attempting to uninstall norton 2 days ago, I can no longer connect to any browsers. My wireless net connects fine but when opening Internet explorer, it shows that the page cannot be displayed and there seems to be a problem with adapters. I uninstalled the 6to4 adapter as it was showing the yellow symbol and then rebooted. Still no connection to browser. Can u fix this please? I rely greatly on the net for work purposes. Thanks in advance!

How do u reinstall ie with no connection to browsers? I'm having the same issue as above. I've called my net provider and they tried command prompts, reboots, safe mode admin runs and still no change.

A:Connection to Internet but no browsers

Try using the norton removal tool.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/U...val-Tool.shtml
click on the above link and download.
This will remove all norton produsts including norton ghost and go back.
You will obviously need to do this at another computer, but just save to a usb flash drive.
This should restore normal function.

Hello everyone, Specs: HP Probook 4540sWindows 7 Professional 64 bit8 gig ramIntel core i-5 3320Intel HD 4000 GraphicsAMD Radeon HD 7000 Switchable Graphics I have a serious problem with my HP Probook 4540s and I really need help.  I am somewhat tech savvy but this one has me floored.  So my brother recently installed a game on my computer and it completely crashed my system.  Apparently I didn't install some important updates on my computer and the new graphics updates corrupted my system and I have received several blue screens before my system crashed completely.  I reinstalled windows (fresh formatted copy), installed all upgrades, but as soon as I install Catalyst Control Center, my system crashes again.  I installed the base graphics drivers for my Intel HD 4000, but Catalyst Control Center will crash my system.  This is a switchable graphics system.  Am I missing something here?  I did a memory check, I did a full system diagnostic, and nothing.   Please help.  Thank you.

When I push the power button to my HP ProBook 4540s, it does not boot, but a few seconds later the fan turns on and the screen remains black.  If there were any error messages, I can't see them.  The only way to shut it back down is to press and hold the power button.  Then I try to boot it agian.  The computer will boot normally about 1 out of 35 or 40 attempts.  Briefly removing the battery and placing it back does not help.   I haven't made any changes to the computer.  It is about 10 months old.  Any ideas???

A:ProBook 4540s Powers on, but won't boot... fan turns on with...

Hello MS, Question:  Do any of the LED lights on the keyboard turn on when the computer doesn?t boot?  Here?s an HP troubleshooting document for notebooks that won?t start, along with some info about LED error codes: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01732674 If that doesn?t help, it is probably a hardware issue. Since you've only had the notebook for 10 months it?s probably still under warranty. You can contact HP: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html Please let me know if any of these suggestions helped.  If not, I will try to investigate further. TobindoHP Representative

Just got a new Probook 4540s and cannot get the on/off function of the touchpad to work.  There is a small dot in the upper left corner of tochpad.  User guide says to double tap it to turn on and off touchpad.  Doesn't work.  I then went to driver download and got the latest synaptics drivers.  Still doesn't work.  What am I doing wrong?

Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks  or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please have a look at this link. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility 2. Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,K N R K

My computer says it's got an excellent connection to the internet.  However, when I open a browser, I can't go anywhere.  If I type in a webpage, at the bottom it just says "Waiting for page..." and the wheel turns, but nothing happens.

I have been searching for days for solutions, but nothing seems to work.  I've opened the command prompt and done ipconfig/release & renew, I have unplugged the router and restarted, and I'm not finding anything helpful.  I need someone who can walk me through some things I can try, and also interpret the results the command prompt gives back to me.

What useful information can I provide to get started?

Good afternoon,

For the past week I've been having internet connection problems on my Asus laptop. This happens only on my laptop, not my tablets, phone, PS4, Xbox or anything else. I usually use Chrome for browsing, but have tested this error across all browsers (Firefox, IE) with the same results;

Chrome - Error code: ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT
Firefox - The connection has timed out
IE - This page can?t be displayed

While I have a very fast internet connection (23Mbps download, 2.13Mbps upload), browsing the internet has become next to impossible with webpages timing out, hitting refresh, page loading half way, hitting refresh again, getting a connection time out and going around in circles... About 90% of my browsing involves this scenario; sometimes it doesn't happen on the first try, but it WILL happen within a couple minutes of browsing.

Things I've tried;

-restart router
-restart computer
-apply all windows updates
-ipconfig /flushdns
-ipconfig /release
-ipconfig /renew
-netsh winsock reset catalog
-netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
-netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log
-checked proxy settings
-remove unused browser add-ons
-completed virus/malware scans to detect any viruses
-cleared browsing data, temporary internet files and cookies
-plugged in ethernet cable
-turned off anti-virus programs
-CMD prompt, ping google.com

Needless to say I'm going out of my mind trying to fix this. It came out of nowhere. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello,

I have just recently installed Windows 8 Pro and have had no problems, except my internet browsers.
I am connected to the internet and can use some programs using it such as skype, but none of my browsers will work. (Internet explorer, Google chrome, Firefox.)
In google chrome i get Error 138, and have researched that and found that it is apparently a problem with your antivirus blocking it, although I have gone into my Bullguard's firewall and allowed all browsers as permitted programs.
I also allowed them all in the computers own control panel. I have also found that another answer to it is unchecking the proxy setting in internet options, although that makes no change.
Can someone else please post another possible solution, I will be happy to answer questions.
Thank you

A:Internet Connection but browsers do not work.

I would completely disable all third-party security items (AV, malware, and firewall) and let the Win8 security features take over protection for awhile as a test.

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me. About three weeks ago out of the blue the browser I was using at that time Opera stuck loading its home page (Google). It would open then say blank page accompanied by the swirling circle despite google's address appearing in the search bar.

This problem was also present in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome. I know it is not a problem with the modem as Utorrent, Steam etc all connect and work perfectly. I went away for four days and came home to find it working but it soon cut out again. I have tried various system restores, command prompts etc and nothing has worked yet. I am typing this from the Steam browser which is slow and ineffective. Please if anyone could be of assistance it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
I hope you can help.
I recently updated my chrome browser and ended up with trovi search engine and numerous tabs opening with search conduit home page. It has impossible to get rid of. I am now unable to connect to the internet as my service provider has blocked access due to infected browser.

I'm not sure if the problem is related but since the trouble with the browser I am getting error messages saying that my laptop is low on system memory which I never had before.

Hi, none of IE, FF or Chrome currently work on my computer which does have an internet connection as Skype is still functional and the connection is confirmed. I tried a system restore to a date before some recent updates were installed but it didn't work. I've also tried deactivating any firewalls and anti-virus programs, tried the browsers and they still haven't worked. Could anyone suggest anything that might work? I would be extremely grateful. I have Windows Vista Version 6.0.

Gateway laptop running Vista home premium is connected to internet but browsers will not work. I have downloaded & installed over 150 updates that were available to this PC but cant connect to the net via Chrome or IE.When I received the laptop it would connect to Internet & browsers did work but was almost unusable due to the pop ups. I went thru it & uninstalled all the toolbars, download optimizers & all the other fluff that didn't appear to be legitimate software. The ones I wasn't sure of, I googled to be sure it was safe to remove. After getting it running good & smooth I attempted to get online but got nothing. Network properties shows that it is connected. Windows update does work as I downloaded over 150 updates for it & now it is totally up to date. I've ran Ad-Aware, Spybot, Vipre virus scan, rkill, malware bytes, Emisoft toolkit & Junkware remover. I've did all the different variables of ip config , flush, reset, & reset winsock & other variables I could find. I can ping google & get the the ping results with packet size & time. I've tried connecting in safe mode, no luck. Also, it will not connect via Ethernet either. I've also tried resetting my router & installing a wifi dongle. Those options didn't work either

When I try to download large files on my browsers (any file that takes more than a few seconds to load), my computer "loses" its link to the internet. The download stops, I can't browse anymore and I lose my Skype connection.

This happens on a totally random basis and can occur at any point during a download and some downloads work normally at some times. It only used to happen when I was attempting to download using Firefox or IE, and I was able to use the Opera browser as a workaround because files always downloaded normally when I was using that.

BUT, I recently changed to a different account with my ISP and now Opera is experiencing the same problems. I can "reconnect" my internet by going to my Local Area Connection icon in my network connections folder, disabling it (it still says that it is enabled before I do this) and then enabling it again. Then the internet starts to work again.

My computer is hooked up to a wireless router and the laptop I have remains connected to the internet when my PC loses the connection. (This indicates to me that the internet is functioning properly) The same things occurs with my firewall up and down.

This was happening when I had my D-Link 302G modem hooked up to the computer so I switched over to a Belkin high speed ADL2+ modem and I am experiencing exactly the same problem. I am running Windows XP. The problem also occurs if I have the modem running straight into the PC with the wireless router removed.

But the site no longer has a field to type in the model number of the computer to check for compatibility. Please hurry! I am running out of time. Thanks,Tom

A:HP ProBook 4540s (Model C9K70UT) Windows 10 Compatibility

Hi: When I enter the product number for your PC after clicking on the Upgrade Icon on the link you posted, I get this message... http://www8.hp.com/us/en/ads/windows10/not_tested.html?jumpid=cp_r163_us/en/pc_cons/win10/update/Fin... So what that means is HP does not support your notebook with drivers and software to work on W10. That doesn't mean it can't.  It just means there is a possibility that some of the hardware won't work. I looked at the specs for your notebook, and it appears that it should work on W10. I have much older HP business notebooks than the 4540s and they work on W10. I do not use any of the security software such as the fingerprint reader, so I can't say if that will work on yours or not, and mine don't have webcams. There are some W7/W8.1 drivers you may have to install such as the JMicron Card reader driver to get the card reader to work. You can always give it a shot and if it doesn't work, roll back to W7 within 30 days of the upgrade. If you need help finding a driver or so, let me know and I will see what I can do.

My HP Probook 4540S webcam has stopped working after Windows 10 update KB3194496 was installed. I installed the HPUniversal camera Driver but the webcam still doesn't work. Prior to the KB3194496 update the webcam worked perfectly. Has any else experienced this and is there a fix?! Thanks!!

Hi,

I have a problem that I haven't found a cure for anywhere:

I have a Sony Vaio with Windows 8 installed, and last night I tried to intall Open Office, Firefox and a program called Paint.net on it. The system wanted to restart, and it installed some updates, but after the updates were installed, the internet connection failed. The modem is fine, all other cpu's and ipads and devices connect normally, but the Windows 8 one won't work, neither on wlan or through ethernet.

It shows the network ok and connects to it ok, but when I open the browser, nothing happens. And after a while I get the normal error message.

Anyone who could help me with this one?

A:Internet connection ok, browsers (IE, Firefox) won't work

Have done the router re-set thing, and the tcp/ip and winsock reset thing, and almost all other things on earth.

But maybe it's worth to mention that I have f-secure Anti-virus + firewall installed. Previous to the updates the browsers were working fine, but afterwards, nada.

All my browsers on my desktop will drop offline and not be able to connect to any sites every 2-5 minutes. My laptop works fine at the same time the desktop is failing. I have eliminated the router and the modem. On the desktop I am able to ping outside servers without losing packets during the browser outage.

Norton AV, NOD32, Adaware and Spybot S&D come up with nothing.

Thank you in advance for your help. I really appreciate your efforts. Here is my DDS log and zipped attach file.

Hello all!

I am a computer technician and i have come across something i have never come across before.

The customers computer connects to the internet just fine. Only problem is that both IE8 and Mozilla Firefox do not work. What is really weird is that i can still click on the yellow shield with the exclamation point in it to get windows updates. I also can update both Superantispyware and Malwarebytes. I have checked the settings for both IE8 and MF and they are both automatically detecting settings and the Local area connection is also automatically detecting settings

I am currently scanning for spyware and malware.

Any other ideas???

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I have two computers, both running Win 7 Pro.  One performs normally in all ways.  The other was fine until a few days ago;  we moved from a hotel WiFi network to a residential cable modem/router, and anything requiring an internet connection suddenly became very unreliable.  Browsers spin their wheels endlessly, Outlook 2010 won't connect to the Gmail IMAP servers, and so on.  The network connection is fast and stable from the other computer.  Both computers run Avast Internet Security, with weekly full scans scheduled.  Both the hotel and the residential networks have been treated as public networks. A quick scan with Avast revealed no malware on the malfunctioning computer.  The good computer is an old HP Pavillion DV7 4070us, the bad one is a newer Sony Vaio VPCSC1AFM. Nothing else has been changed recently.
I tried Malwarebytes.  Initially, it balked at the update, but after a restart it updated its database successfully.  It froze when I tried a scan.  I ran Rkill (nothing detected) and TDSSKiller (no threats found) then Malwarebytes again (no malware found.)

I also have tried changing DNS servers, and disabling IPv6.

I have tried the malfunctioning computer on a guest network at work, and have experienced no difficulties there.  That points to something on the residental network that isn't getting along with something on the malfunctioning computer.  I'm not knowledgab... Read more

Hi!
Whenever I try to browse on my laptop, the browsers (all of them - I've tried IE, Firefox, Opera and Chrome) keep on freezing randomly every 20-30 seconds for about 5 seconds. At the same time, I could see the same in steam - the game download speed at the very same moments suddenly drops to zero, and then goes back up. All the other applications work fine and even steam downloads work fine as long as I don't use the browsers.

This is a brand new laptop and I've done a full antivirus scan, so it's definitely not a malware/virus issue.
I've been using the same internet cable with my windows 7 laptop for around a year, and never had a single issue with browser freezing.

Any advice on how I could try to fix this?
Thanks!

One of our computers got hit with a trojan that disabled Norton and Malwarebytes and all browsing except to the pages that tried to get you to buy whatever program was supposed to "fix" the problem. We managed to get rid of the pop-ups warning of impending doom (by deleting the most recent files deposited on the machine) and got Norton and Malwarebytes running again. Malwarebytes found nothing, nor did Norton, but it did clean up the registry. Everything seems fine now, except neither browser -- IE or Chrome -- can get anywhere.

The internet connection is active. I can successfully ping sites from the command prompt, packets are going out and coming in, and the 2nd computer -- which connects through the same router -- can get to the internet just fine (that's the computer I'm using).

I'm to the point where I think all we can do is reformat, but he has soooo much stuff on his computer that it's going to be a major time investment to back up the files and reinstall all the software. I thought I'd come here first and see if anyone had any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

for details of this problem, please see my original post here at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/206488/ff-ie-intermittently-refuse-to-access-internet/please read it carefully. thanks.I didn't give system specs there - windows XP home, SP3, right up to date, 550mhz CPU, 120g and 40g HD's plus 500g external drive, with 100g windows partition on it. Zone alarm Pro firewall, avg8 free antivirus. I use BOOTIT NG, a dual boot, partition manager, and imaging program. I posted this problem at Protonic, and have had no answers there. my original post here was closed because I was considering using combofix. so, left on my own, here is what I have done. bootit ng does a bootable image on a weekly basis, so I decided I would go back a bit to when I knew the problem was in its first stage -browsers would quit, but closing and restarting them resolved the problem. the image is usually copied to my 100g partition on my external HD.so I copied my image for jan 14, to my second HD, and booted from it. now the browsers work, and everything is fine. after using the system for a while, with no problems, AVG update comes up and says it needs the system rebooted. this doesn't normally happen with AVG, so there must be some significant program change. immediately upon reboot, the browser problem occurred. so I replaced the jan 14 system with the jan 7 bootable image, uninstalled avg8, and now the system has been running perfectly since that time, feb 26 or 27. the browser problem... So since last night, I have been having some issues, staying connected to the internet
I can get on either browser (whether it be IE, FF, Chrome) and it will work just fine, but after 10-15 minutes, I can no longer access any sites. I haven't downloaded anything recent either so I can't figure out what is causing it
I am currently connected wirelessly, and it has happened on two different access points. Home and work.
Anyways, could use any and all help. I'm getting tired of restarting!

A:Losing internet connection after 10 minutes to browsers. Please help!

As a first measure I would restore from a restore point before last night
and just to keep it safe, run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: Malwarebytes

At home you could try to switch the channel (check your router manual) but that doesn't help you at work.

I would go to your Power Options -> Advanced settings Wireless Adapter settings set Power savings mode of whatever plan you're using to Maximum performance

Hello everyone,
For the past three days, I have had a problem with my PC.
It will show I have internet connection, however, no matter what browser I use, whether Firefox, IE or AOL, they will say no internet connection. I decided to disable my Windows Firewall, and even tho it still does it, sometimes I'm able to get online. When I cant get online, I have to reboot my PC and then I'm able to access internet and all works out but then will just freak out and not work. Now, yesterday, I also had problems with my 1394 bus IEEE driver, but was able to fix that and I'm not even sure what happened to begin with it. Today, I decided to remove AOL, I cant stand it anymore anyways. I also downloaded "Advanced system care" and did a full system scan, and it said it fixed a TON of stuff. I also did a full virus scan and also a complete boot scan, where I saw that my Java had some corrupted files and also another program, and I did a malware/spyware scan and with everything, there were no virus' and no maleware/spyware at all. Thank God! However, I still haven't been able to pinpoint why its just losing connection and I just cant seem to find any help. My drivers for my modem are up to date as well. I usually just use my Firefox and what will happen is that I'm online, and when I click a tab to open up a new window, it will just say loading...continuously and then it will say theres no internet connection. If so which program was it ??You are usually better with free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php and Free SUPERAntiSpyware programs http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE for malware detection -Do you do regular maintaining like defrag , clearing temp files , etc. that will help your system -Have you got XP Service Pack 3 installed and all Microsoft updates also ??These things will help for a start - Next run Check disk program by opening Run Box and copy / paste this code in, close all programs and let it check your system -CMD /C ECHO Y|CHKDSK C: /R | SHUTDOWN /R /T 30The code will reboot your computer in 30 seconds after you click OK then run a full 5 stage check/repair on the disk -On average this takes 30 to 45 mins but can take longer if errors are found and fixed -Thank You -

Hi,
Since updating my windows 8.1 it seems that now the browsers will not work at all on my laptop. Keeps giving me cannot find secure connection. I have reset the every protocol, checked the wifi connection. Ran trouble shooters, ran every malware and virus scan, nothing. When I boot in safe mode with networking it works fine. Also have used a portable Tor browser and it connects.
On my desktop, Chrome and IE will not work but Mozilla will BUT it will not complete any downloads, stops at 99%. I am stumped. Any thoughts PLEASE. This is driving me nuts.

The little icon in the corner indicates that the internet connection wors no browser will load any pages. I've released/renewed my ip address, tried in safe mode with networking (doesn't work), tried tcp/ip repair and pinging (all said, could not find host). There are other computers in the house and this is the only one that has this problem.

I've heard great things about techguy forums and I really hope someone here can help me. It'd be much appreciated.

A:Internet connection working but browsers won't load anything

Check the proxy settings and make sure that they are not set.

As to pinging, try to ping 8.8.8.8

If that works, then you have a DNS issue. If it does not work, you may have something else.

I have VISTA home premium+ HP laptop g60 amd 32 bit op sys. problem is can only get IE to work, I have disabled ms firewall as best as I can. I also have undone an MS Update connected with IE to get IE to work. I have tried most options under the Internet tools. I have stopped practically everything starting on start up. I have reset TCP through cmd prompt. so for example i download google chrome and it wont connect. I did have symantecs NORTON 360 internet thing which I believe I have disabled. I did have problems uninstalling it. The only firewall registered on the system is the MS Firewall. this my first post ever on a tech site so please be gentle if I havefailed to mention something. the problem occurs whether im wireless, hardwired or on mobile bb. I think I now have IE8. The internet connection works with an existing game programme ( KGS Go)

about two weeks ago the lap top stopped working I resolved this by process of elimination and found that 6 norton drivers were somehow involved. I removed those drivers. I use 02 mobile broadband and believe it was their new version of the connection manager conflicting somewhere. this occurred at the same time ms released some internet updates. Asyou can tell I am not particularly technical but would appreciate some guidance. many thanks in anticipation.

I am trying to avoid replacing the OS on the drive.

After having my laptop on for a few hours I encounter a situation where I clearly have an internet connection but my browsers do not work, (both Firefox and Edge). What's weird is, on firefox, it will usually go to home page (google) and google will search, but from there every link I try to click on will display as 'unable to connect'. The only remedy is to power down and reboot.

Reading around I see this issue cropping up back as far as windows 7 but no definitive cause, although potential DNS issues are mentioned.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi.
You could try assigning Google DNS servers to your adapter, and see if that makes a difference. In Control Panel>Network and Sharing>, Change Adapter Settings> right click on your wireless adapter and select Properties, then highlight the IPv4 and select properties, select the radio button Use the following DNS server addresses and input 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

I have a relatively new HP Probook 4540s, running the Windows 7 x64 Edition OS, which regularly stalls for a few seconds (5-6 secs), before returning to normal operations. This is witnessed while writing documents, viewing web-pages, opening any application, and other general use items.

Appreciate anyone's help in resolving this issue. Is this an OS issue or hw/sw combination problem? Look forward to your help in clearing this annoying and in-comprehensible problem.

Thanks and best regards,
Akbar

Hello,

I run windows 7 ultimate, and it seems like my wifi is acting up.

I can access the internet fine when i have a network bridge enabled ( used for xbox 360, but I have a wifi adapter for it now) but when i unbridge the connection it says that I am connected to the internet via wifi card, however I cannot surf the web.

When I go to diagnose the problem on my Wireless Network Connection, I get 2 problems, each appearing different times when I diagnose.

And this problem

And also for more info, when I view the properties of my wireless adapter it shows the following:

(Note the IPv6 Connectivity Status!)

I really need to figure this out!
I use a Wrt150N Router with the lastest firmware upgrade and a Macbook Pro Computer (wireless), Windows Vista (wireless) & Xp (wired) run fine with it.
Also I can run a wired connection with the computer fine. So I really don't know what the problem is.

Thanks in advance,

Tony N.

I am also connecting via bridge. In order to bridge something you have to have 2 diff networks connected (see my snip). There should be the wifi>bridge>something else (in my case wired)

Are all the networks shared? The errors seem to point to DNS. can you type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>IPconfig /all and upload a snip of the output

I'm experiencing unusual increased time in Windows startup, but the main issue is with the browsers that are showing strange behavior, especially Firefox. All of a sudden Firefox and, to a lesser degree, Chrome and IE, would freeze for several seconds and sometimes a minute or 2. I also experience temporary disconnection from the internet. Usually this is temporary, but sometimes I have to reboot my router and modem.
Yesterday I had a BSOD and I had a chance to take a picture of it that I'm including in attachment here.

Thanks for all your help!

I've been having a problem with my new Dell Inspiron laptop. I mainly use Firefox and very often, it will just stop loading pages as if the internet connection has cut out. I've found this mostly happens when I try to load more than one thing at once or interrupt loading at all. A lot of the time, IE will work fine for a bit longer, and then that too will stop working. I'll be running Windows Live Messenger, and that will continue to work.
When Firefox stops loading, after I close it, it will continue to run under processes in task manager, but won't close, and when I try to reopen, it will say that firefox is already running.
The problem will always fix itself once I reset the system, but it's really frustrating to have to reset every half hour. I've been finding that whenever this happens, it takes a really long time to log out, and I'm thinking that's due to the programs refusing to close, but I'm not sure.
I'd absolutely love the person who could fix this for me. :)

Hello guys!

I have a problem with an install of Vista Home. I purchased my computer last year and was part of the delayed Vista roll out - so when it finally arrived, I was running a dual booting XP/Vista set up with no problems.

Then recently my XP was mauled and so I went for a complete format and installation of Vista only, which went smoothly for the first few days.

It has been randomly updating itself through the Microsoft site but the last couple of days I've had problems with my internet connection.

I am with BT (sadly no choice in my village) and have a Homehub connected with an RJ45 into a Realtek network card.

When I turn on Vista, I get the network icon with the yellow exclamation mark. Clicking on it reveals I am connected to an unidentified network, with limited connectivity.

I then "identify the problem" and choose the option "automatically get new IP settings for the network adapter" which I choose. Before picking this, my ipconfig reads as follows:

Connection Specific DNS Suffix :
AutoConfig IPv4 Address : 169.254.35.95
Subnet Mask : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway :

Once I have clicked the "automatically get settings" option, Vista repairs something, then says that it did not fix the problem, but that resetting the network adapter might do something. The output in IPCONFIG hasn't changed at this point.

So I reset my adapter and magically it works and suddenly I can access websites and my ipconfig has cha... Read more

A:[SOLVED] Browsers won't connect to active internet connection

Hi. . .

Great detailed write-up.

I would suggest that you look in the Event Viewer if you have not already done so. There are 54+ logs there - start w/ Custom view/admin & see what is happening during connectivity to Internet then when you lose it.

Also have you un-installed the Network devices via Device manager? If not, do so - remove them all then re-boot. Vista will re-install for you.

Is BT British Telcom?

One thing I would recommend is that you download and install a Vista Sidebar gadget called Network Meter so you can see activity, signal strength and refresh IP.

http://addgadget.com/

Please run msinfo32 and save as an NFO file so that I can see some system info -
START | type msinfo32 and hit enter | Save as default NFO file - you'll see the NFO file extension when you go to save it.

Zip it up and attach to post.

I posted before and college took over my life a bit. Sorry about wasting your time. I've completed the scan requested. It didn't seem to find anything.
I've realised that it's not just Firefox that refuses to close. Whenever anything crashes, it will remain in the processes list in task manager. For example, if MSN crashes, it will stay in processes, and if I try to reopen it, I'll just end up with multiple copies of it in processes, but it won't actually open, unless I reset my laptop. When anything crashes or internet browsers stop responding, it takes a really long time to log off, occasionally over 30 minutes.

I am having issues with my web browser that I hope someone can help me with. When I open IE or Firefox, it takes an EXTREMELY long time to open a webpage (about an hour).

When I open a web browser in IE, it hangs at "connecting" for about 20-25 minutes. It then moves to "waiting for http://(whateverwebsite)" for another 20-25 minutes. Then it displays the website, but hangs for another 15-20 minutes. When I open a webpage in Firefox, nothing happens at all.

I know there is nothing wrong with my Internet connection because I can still download updates at a normal speed and I have a couple of online games I can still play normally. I can also still access the Internet fine on other computers (hence this posting). The only issue is with the web browser is on my laptop.

My web browsers were working fine last night and the only change I have made was downloading McAfee. I contacted McAfee and of course they said this is not caused by their software. I conducted a virus scan with McAfee and PCTools and everything is normal.

One thing I just noticed is if I open a web browser and disconnect the Internet connection, the web browser will still go through the steps I listed in the second paragraph and display the webpage an hour later. So the webpage is still being downloaded at a normal speed, it just takes forever to be displayed.

I have already tried restarting both my computer and modem. I have also conducted the following that was posted by JohnWill:

Problem arose yesterday. I've ran diagnostics and turned the router on and off, plugged the Ethernet in for a better connection. My hp envy 17 laptop finds no problems with the connection yet I cannot access any pages through the web browsers properly. I've restarted my laptop several times and sometimes a page will load but never load completely and if I click a link on the page it will not load at all. My Skype works fine and I've ran a full scan with panda security which has detected no problems. I haven't downloaded anything in the space of when my laptop was working fine and when it stopped working, in fact I barely used it at all. I've tried all the conmand prompts I've seen suggested in previous cases like this i.e. The netsh winsock etc. sort of stuff but they haven't seemed to work. I believe I don't have any proxy servers active on my laptop or in any of the browsers (not sure if that makes sense since I'm not really an expert on this technical stuff ) also chrome keeps crashing every time I load a page, which has happened to me previously so may be a separate problem, but it isn't really helping the matter. Really hoping I don't have some sort of malware.. Any suggestions of solutions would be great, the laptop is fairly new, bought it in September I believe so I don't see why there should be any problems with it (considering its price too >.>) thanks a lot. Greetings

I'm not really sure where to post this, please move if needed.

My internet connection is fine, programs such as MSN work, but when I go to either Internet Explorer it displays the 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' notice on every page that I try to connect to, also displays a 'Page loading error' notice on every page that I try to visit.

The problem appeared to start when I installed an update for Firefox, and at the time I had an old version of IE which worked fine, although the updated Firefox did not display any pages, I decided to update to IE8, because the version I had installed was pretty ancient, after which IE also began to display this problem.

I have fiddled with my firewall settings, to no avail.

Incidentally I am now using an old version of MSN explorer, which works to display webpages (which is how I am managing to post this!) I am guessing it is something to do with the updates, although I'm not an expert.

Any clues as to what I can do to fix it (I don't want to be stuck with this awful MSN browser!)

Thanks in advance
Laurens

A:Internet connection working fine, browsers can't connect to any sites.

Try opening a command window (type cmd into yor run box and click ok)
Then type 'netsh winsock reset' and hit enter.
You should get a message 'successfully reset winsock catalogue' or similar.
then restart your computer

I installed a trial version of TuneupUtilities 2010 about 10 days ago, since when I’ve encountered masses of problems with my five-year-old laptop, which had previously been working pretty well!

The laptop is an Acer Ferrari 400 Series; AMD Turion 64 Mobile; 1.79GHz; 1.00GB RAM; running Windows XP, SP3. It’s been happily running with IE8, Firefox 3.62 and Google Chrome and all the latest Windows Updates. Protection includes AVG 9.0 Free Edition, ZoneAlarm (version 8.0.298.000), Spyware Blaster 4.2, SpyBot S&D 1.6.2 and SUPERAntiSpyware 4.34.1000.

I’ve run AVG scans in both standard and safe modes, plus a SpyBot scan and then an ANTISpyware scan – nothing dangerous was flagged up.

I can send and receive e-mails totally fine with Outlook Express and I can also listen to music on Spotify with no problem whatsoever.

However, persistent problems encountered are as follows: Windows Update fails to run, Firefox hangs on navigating to any second site, Google Chrome hangs and won’t update to latest version (“Update server not available error: 3”), all browser Internet connections are extremely slow, major time delays in booting and shutting down (previously they were both pretty prompt), can’t download latest AVG DAT files.

I also have Secunia installed, but now it will only run as far as about 90% of the usual scan.

I uninstalled IE8 using Revo Uninstaller but Windows Update still fails to run and doesn’t prompt to run the necessary Active X control – I’ve trie... Read more

This problem happened after sending my laptop away to be 'fixed' for a faulty wireless connection. It came back with both this problem and photoshop failing to start ('licensing for this product has stopped working'), where they both worked perfectly before. I can't send it away again as I need it for uni work, but this is driving me mad.
Pages are not loading in both IE and Firefox (3.0.6), there is no error message, just 'Loading...' in the tab title and a blank white page - loading bar appears in the bottom right but remains empty indefinately. When this happens, MSN and other such programs keep working fine.
This happens randomly with no apparent cause - the browsers will work fine and then suddenly seem to 'switch off' in this way and not load any pages.
Wireless capability is on and internet connection is working fine for other people in the house. Disconnecting and reconnecting does nothing.
Reinstalling hasn't solved the problem.
Scanned with Kapersky to no avail, can't find any viruses.
The only thing that fixes this problem is an entire restart of the laptop. I'm finding myself having to restart several times a day and it's very frustating!
