2 things-upgrade HP notebook from ME to 2000

Q: 2 things-upgrade HP notebook from ME to 2000

Merry Christmas

I hope someone can help. I have a copy of win2000 upgrade that I used to upgrade a brand new HP notebook PC from Windows ME to Win2000 (upgrade). Everything looks good except 2 things:

When it checked for win2000 compatibility with loaded software (I was just from the factory), it identified that 2000 was not compatible with any of the Windows Works programs that were pre-loaded. (that was fine as I have office xp I'm going to use). When I boot up the computer, I get an error message box saying:
WKSCal.exe -unable to locate DLL
The dynamic link library MSVCP60.DLL could not be found in specified path (.....yada-yada)
Question 1- how can I get that error message to go away for good since I don't need to ever use that file.

Question 2- win2000 shrank the screen display of the windows desktop, it doesn't fill the whole screen. It is shrunk on all 4 sides aproximately 20%. I have adjusted the screen resolution in the control panel/display/settings to the more setting and it does not help. The other parts of the screen are black and acts like the monitor is small.

I appreciate anyone's help on this. Thanks.

for the works calendar problem either go to add remove programs and uninstall it or you could try downloading this utility for 2k, acts like msconfig in win98. Should allow you to uncheck the line calling the works file

Currently my notebook has the standard 4GB of memory using the HP provided Hynix HMT451S6AFR8A SoDIMM, 12800 DDR3L-1600, 1.35V. I have been looking to replace it with either Kingston HyperX, HX316LS9IB2_8, DDR3L-1600 (2x4GB) kit or the Crucial Ballistix Sport CT6278900, DDR3L-1600 (2x4GB) kit. Both have 9-9-9 timings. My question is will the memory with lower timings and the density of the chips work on my HP 2000-2d37cl notebook with an AMD A6-5200 CPU? Also I was curious about postings in the forums where persons had lost the Admin or other passwords on theirHP 2000 notebooks or they purchased a used notebook that had a unknown password. They provide the codes from the error on screen and the reply's from techs allowed them to get past this and reset their systems. I hope I never have that problem, however where exactly are the techs getting the codes from? Is there some program or document available that has the code alogrithm? Thank You.

Gateway Notebook Model: ML6732
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit
Intel Pentium Dual CPU 1.73 GHz; 3.00 GB RAM; 300 GB HDD (partitioned)

Purchased one month ago. Immediately after unpacking and setting it up and before adding my software, I tried out the preinstalled stuff and thought it was running slow. Ran the Norton's Internet Security trial that was installed and it found a trojan - which I had it delete. I thought that was strange. Thought maybe the Norton's was slowing the system down, so I took it off and put my Zone Alarm on. That didn't speed it up, either.

I also turned off the UAC and tried setting the visual display to "Best Performance" - neither of which helped.

Installed Ad-aware Pro, Spybot, and Spywareblaster as well and they're not finding anything much - Ad-aware finds a few tracking cookies. Used CCleaner to clean the Internet cache, deleted temp files, etc. all to no avail.

I ran PC Pitstop's Overdrive test and it said there were several things wrong, including some outdated drivers; however, when attempting to update them, the system says it has the proper drivers. Pitstop also showed the CPU usage at 97 percent.

Checked the startup list and reset a few things, but otherwise there doesn't seem to be anything suspicious that I can tell. There's something on the computer called "Bigfix" that Gateway installed - - not familar with it and don't know if it's worth keeping yet. I wonder abo... Read more

as for messenger......go to start>run. Type in services.msc Scroll down to messenger. Right click on it, then hit properties. On the general tab, under startup type, use the dropdown box to disable it. Click apply>ok.

Hope this helps.

Hi, Try to run a diagnostic test Turn your computer offthen turn it back on and keep on tapping on ESCLook for Diagnostics F2Look for component test, Hard drive test, then click quick check then run once. It will then check your computer's hard drive. After the test it should give you a result if the hard drive pass or fail with a failure id number If the computer pass. Try running malwarebytes to your computer (I know that the antivirus of your computer is updated but we wanted to check if there are virus infection present) Try downloading bios update. Please refer here on how to install the bios update http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/randomly-shuts-down/m-p/5603375... Note: Please disable your computer's log in password just to make sure you won't encounter any locked up issues after bios update by going to  RUN then type netplwiz then uncheck the box click apply then enter your password and re enter it (Just dont mind the user)

My PC keeps flashing on alot of the pages, Im running Norton security and Malware Bytes, and nothing has been found. I need to find a way to restore this back to the way it was when i bought it.  bought in 2013 , and it had windows 8 , 64 bit.  Thank you  Dee33

A:HP 2000 Notebook PC

Dee33 If you did the Win10 Upgrade and are now trying to revert back to Wion8, I have some bad news for you. While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!The Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine.  This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work. So, any attempt to use F11 to do a restore is doomed to failure. Are you trying to use the Recovery Disks, by booting from the first one, and they are not working? If so, what is happening when you try to use them? We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue. The above requested information can be found on the bottom of your computer or inside the battery compartment. Please do not include your serial number.  It will be necessary to set the SATA settings in BIOS to IDE mode. Depends on the settings. You can change it to be always on or always off via the bios, or the system settings in windows. But if you set it to always off, the fan will turn on either way if the cpu gets over 70c

A few years back i got a pC built for me in Bangkok. I used the knowledge of a few on a Thai forum. So since this was about 3 years ago I am gonna upgrade a few things. RAM , HD and graphics card.
Currently i have this....
Athlon 64/3000 Socket 939 CPU
Mainboard with 939 socket with VGA slot
NEO 2
2x 512 Ram(400)
160GB HD (MT)

Graphics card is a Geforce FX 5900. Bare in mind my card is not PCI and i'm pretty sure my PC isnt either. Hence the graphics card. Its still a great card. But would like to upgrade to a newer faster card. One with at least Pixel shading 2. So what card would the experts suggest? Another thing. How easy for me to install RAM and HD on my own? I am into gaming and would be able to play the newer games at a higher setting. I can play Oblivion on my system as it is. The settings are adjusted to low. Though it still looks fantastic. Anyway. Any ideas about a card?

Hey everyone.

I'm looking to upgrade a few things in my computer. Right now I'm using this computer for mainly audio applications/mixing/recording and all the sorts of that. I also do play games but that's not too important right now.

Here's my current specs:
Windows 7 Professional 64bit
AMD Phenom II X6 1050T
4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3
ASUSTeK Computer INC. M4N75TD
GeForce GTX 460
2TB harddrive

The main thing I'm looking at is to upgrade my RAM since the applications I use are very memory heavy and since I use 64bit anyway I mind as well get 12gb.

I'll probably upgrade my graphics card to a 7970 down the line but right now I'm not too worried about it.

The next thing I want to upgrade is my motherboard being that the M4N75TD bios isn't very friendly, it's getting a little old and there are some conflicting problems with some of the pci cards I'm using with my graphics card.

The last thing is, if I get a new motherboard and ram should I get the AM3+ boards? I see that the FX AMD processors are out but they have terrible reviews. I like my 1050tt and I never have problems with it but should I make the switch to Intel? I have only ever used AMD processors and I don't really know too much about Intel ones so if there is something better than what I have out there please recommend it!

I have about $400-500 on budget for these upgrades and any help would be appreciated!

A:Looking to upgrade a few things. Could use some help.

I would think a RAM upgrade to 8GB will suffice - and even that is probably too much. I would keep the CPU and the board (unless there is really too much wrong with the BIOS). I would add a SSD. Here is a good deal for $60: OCZ VTX3-25SAT3-120G Vertex 3 Solid State Drive - 120GB, 2.5, SATA III at TigerDirect.com

A:Getting a new hp notebook. 1500-2000 budget. Need some help :)

Hey Zizou I am actually in the exact same boat as you right now. I'm looking for a sub 2k notebook. Here are a few things you might find useful that I did:

The Centrino's have just gone through a yearly hardware refresh called Santa Rosa. Since these are brand new Centrino's not all the notebooks that will use them are avaliable yet. By around the end of June though, they should all be pretty much on the market. I'd really suggest waiting until at least then before you upgrade.

Now the mods here may kill me for this, but I found notebookreview.com and specifically their What notebook should I buy? section to be very helpful.

Personally I'm leaning towards getting a Compal IFL90 barebones and customizing it with powernotebooks.com. Here's the deal i was able to get on their site:

Hello

First:
My BIOS does not support booting from a USB device
The Notebook does NOT have a CD-ROM
I am able to access a USB CD-ROM with a bootdisk
I've created 3 partitions, but only the second partition is working, because the harddisk is corrupt
The partion is 7GB large and has the letter D

The Problems I've encountered:
I tried to start the ..\I386\winnt.exe but the setup doesn't see my Harddrive. Windows is unable to locate a appropriate drive with enough space.
Same as above happens when I run the winnt from the harddisk
The setup doesn't start at all when there is no CD-ROM driver loaded, so I cannot just use simple bootdisks
Well, what can I do?? I'd like to load the USB drivers during the bootsetup(using 4 bootdisk) but I do not know how. Does anyone have a idea how to get this installation going?
Thank you

Bye

My laptop probably suffered some damage within the couple years that I have had it but never had any running problems with my baby. I recently went to turn my computer on and the screen stayed black. The fan is still running and LED lights are still lit so I do not know what the problem is. I think it could be the monitor but I do not have an external monitor to test it on. I know that I am running on the Windows 10 OS but I  am not sure if it is 32-bit or 64-bit

A:HP 2000 Notebook (Energy STAR)

Try a hard reset.  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768 Without an external monitor it is going to be hard to test if it is the screen panel. Do you see the hard drive light blinking like there is activity? Do you hear sounds? Can you get into the BIOS (F10) or diagnostics (F2) as you power up?

I have tried several of the ralink drivers (secifially the 802.11b/g/n WLAN driver) with no success.   Any help would be much appreciated!!

Hello

Thank you

Bye

Last week I purchased an HP 2000 notebook with windows 8 installed I now wish to return and upgrade for a model with a faster processor. I only have a very few personal items on it such as my email address, windows password administrator details and log in passwords on a couple of apps. Therefore I am considering doing a factory reset to remove my personal information and any passwords I have installed. There is no windows key on the notebook itself. In the windows information there is a product ID number which I do not think is the windows key and another which seems to be it but consists of some asterisks and just the last five letters of a key therefore, I am uncertain about what I need to do.I am not very good with computers but as far as I can ascertain I need to do a factory reset via the HP repair software and not any other way.Any advice as to how I should proceed and what precautions I should take would be most welcome (I have watched the specific HP video on this proceedure, maybe I'm just stupid but I found it only added to my confusion).Don

Thought it might be interesting to note what seems to have been fixed that we've noted as longstanding quirks or bugs. These are things I've noted so far.

1. Items listed in explorer search which were deleted from the search results list formerly remained displayed unless on hit F5 to refresh the window.

Now they disappear after about 3s.

2. The Flight Mode/ Airplane Mode button in the Action Centre was at odds with the actual state of the mode unless toggled a couple of times.

Now it works as it should.

3. Desktop icon positions were often lost and icons rearranged on the left side.

Now the positions are retained.

Desktop icons keep rearranging - Page 14 - Windows 10 Forums

Hey guys, I've been noticing a strange issue with my 2011 HP 2000 Notebook laptop for quite some time and figured
I should look into asking for some assistance. For a long while now, my laptop, at very random and less-than occasional times, will make a squealing sound or a long beep, and then something inside clicks rather loud. I've noticed lately that I have received a "BAD_POOL_HEADER" Blue Screen error a few times, twice when I would wake the computer from Sleep Mode, and once while a Windows 7 update was in progress. Luckily, after my computer restarted from the one Blue Screen, the update continued like normal. I've also noticed once in a while if I shut the computer down, right before the laptop completely powers off, it may make a quick beep and click before powering off. I'm a little scared, as I don't know what could be the issue. I feel as though it's the HDD, but I don't know, hence why I'm asking for help here. Can someone help me out? Thanks!

Alrighty! Here goes!

I've been searching online for five hours looking for fixes for this. I recently replaced the Windows 8 on this Notebook with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Edition because, simply put, I bloody hate Windows 8.

This has become problematic for me because it appears that there are no compatible drivers that pair Windows 7 and this device's hardware.

I posted in Yahoo Answers about an hour and ten minutes ago and I'm incredibly frustrated with the results (go figure). A link to that question, in case I forget any information I mentioned there: Downgrading to Windows 7 with HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook? - Yahoo! Answers

The product information page for the HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook is located here: HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook PC Product Specifications HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook PC | HP? Support

I have several drivers that are "Out of date." The main one that I'm worried about is the Graphics/Display driver. On the HP website, the device is listed as: Intel HD graphics 3000 with up to 1696MB total graphics memory.

I've tried installing the Windows 8 drivers (which do nothing) and I have also tried updating my drivers through Windows Update. I've also visited HP's driver site, Intel's, and even NVidia, I believe, all to no avail.

I'm hoping that an informed someone can tell me whether or not there are drivers for my graphics chip, and if there are, where I can find them and how I can install them in working order.

Thank you so much for any help! ... Read more

A:my hp notebook 2000 is not starting but caps lock is blinkin...

The heat damaged the motherboard. You can try keeping it in the sun. Kind of a substitute for baking the main chipset which sometimes works temporarily to melt the solder connections and get everything flowing again but never lasts very long.  The data recovery did not cause this, by the way, just a coincidence.

I have a dv6t with the i7  720m processory from about 3 yrs ago build. I think it has clarksfield processor. I have a 2 x 2 gig installed for total of 4gig now from the original build.   I am wondering (assuming Win  7 64 bit home premium which supports up to 16gig), will this laptop only support 8gig?  I ran a tool and it has a reference of Logical/Chipset memory banks  maximum memory installable of 32gig and a reference to Computer memory controller Max installable memory of 8gig.  So what gives? Will the laptop support 2x8gig memory sticks or just 2x4gig memory sticks?  The DV6T 2000 CTO Entertainment laptop.  If it supports 16 gig, I would like to just buy one of the 8gig rather than 2x4gig sticks. And maybe try to use one of the 2 gigs with the 8gig giving me 10gig for now...or just wait to see if I need a 2nd 8gig.  And will a bios upgrade support the 16 gig?

A:DV6T 2000 CTO Entertainment Notebook with i7 72QM processor...

I figured I would update my own question with the truth and working answer which hopefully helps anyone else that stubmles into this.  But in a nutshell the DV6t 2000 CTO models one could order about 2009 DO DO DO support 16gig and NOT just 8 gig. I have 2 slots. I have the 720QM quad first edition, yes first edition. Both Intel site and Memory checker sites are WRONG!  The saying was 1st gen cpu quads do not support more than 2x4gig=8gigs.  In fact one of my tools suggests I can put in up to 32gig assuming I can find 2 x 16gig memory sticks that I don't even think exist yet for general sale let alone affordability. Spread the word as hopefully this will help others. I bought memory at egghead and figured I would chance it since I read several reviews and comments in various locations suggesting they tried 16gig and indeed it worked for the 720QM processor.  I did not have to update my BIOS that HP last suggested I install circa 2010ish as opposed to the 4 or so that are available today for my model but I think were updated to support other things my model did not require. I ran memory tests too in 5 iterations without issue and in fact it booted right away with no problems with WIN 7 home premium recognizing the sticks. I also checked the CPU64z tool  tab for memory.

So i got this hp 2000 notebook pre installed win 8 from a friend. I did some HP tests and shows HD short DST Failure.
I was able to refresh the pc and it does run per sa but constant always getting dst failures. So i assume its dying. I bought a new hard drive for the unit. Now if i put it in, will windows setup pull the product key from the bios? I put windows 8 on a usb key. Can anyone guide me through the process?

A:hp 2000 notebook Hard Drive DST short failure, Reinstall?

Hi, if the PC came originally with Windows 8 preinstalled the product key is embedded in the BIOS so it would be detected automatically. Here is a great tutorial how to install Windows 8 Clean Install - Windows 8.

Good luck, werty

Hi, As you are confirming that issue is intermittent, and now its working fine, it means that issue would be of display cable. The display cable would be loose. Issue can be fixed by refixing the display cable, if the issue persists then the display cable needs to be replaced. This is the only reason, I asked you in the previous post whether issue was intermittent or display view changed while moving the display lid. This particualr issue has nothing to do with the temperature. Regards,Sumit I am an HP Employee

"For Dim display issue if you use a flash light and point it on the screen you'll actually see the screen behind....And for display cable failure there will be no display or blurry..lines etc.."IF this is true, when flashing the light on the black screen, I was able to see it, although it was very dim, So, what do i need to do in order to fix the screen?

A:My HP 2000-369wm notebook won't boot past the HP logo screen...

Not a lot of info here1) Can you access the BIOS /CMOS screen2) IF yes can you move around the screens and or see that the system has recognised the hard drive. Does the system make any strange noises? How long does it take to switch on ?Is it getting over hot? What happen eventually?Do you can you power it off easily or do you have to hang on to the power button to get it to go offWith it powered OFF!Have you tried removing the hard drive?Reseatting the Memory?Removed the Optical drive? If no then try this below.  Try using a boot DVD/CD to establish if the system will 'get out of bed' Or a linux boot flash stick you can then see if the system is viable and or if the system can access the Hard drive(s) It will also allow you to recover the data transfer to a flash stick.

1. Do you have a second hard disk? You could move the indexing to it.

2. Personally speaking I wouldnt bother with the 7100-7127 upgrade.

So about 2 weeks ago, my Windows 8 PC decided to upgrade itself to Windows 8.1 - I SWEAR I did not click "Yes" to update to 8.1 it just did it on it's own!! Every time that window popped up, I clicked cancel. All of a sudden, it tells me to reboot my PC to finish installing the Windows 8.1 update. WHAT?!?!

And, now that it's done... my PC is completely screwed up. Half my software doesn't work properly. I can't get from my traditional desktop to my "tiles" not that I use them much but dragging the mouse into the corner doesn't bring that up. I can't drag the mouse into the other corner to bring up the menu to shut down the PC (I just hold the power button now) and lastly - neither of my Blu Ray drives works. The PC came with a BR burner, and I had a BR burner in one of my old PC's that died, so I installed it here. And they were both working in harmony for the past several months, until now. Now when I put a disc in either drive, nothing happens.

How do I fix this? Should I just try to use the recovery and revert back to a fresh Windows 8 install? How much will I lose from my HD? I have a 1 TB HD and it's about 55% filled with stuff.

A:Windows 8.1 "upgrade" does weird things to my PC... how can I switch back?

It would help if you were to post the make and model of this computer.

If this is a OEM computer you should have a recovery partition which you can use to reinstall the operating system to the condition it came out of the box.

Windows 10 'Free' Upgrade Breakdown

Microsoft's free upgrade options for Windows 10 have been garnering increasing attention as the July 29 release date for the operating system fast approaches. Partners said there are still unanswered questions about licensing terms, clean installs versus in-place upgrades, and whether once you upgrade to Windows 10 is it possible to downgrade back to Windows 8.1 or 7.
"Nothing is ever as clear as we'd like it to be with Microsoft," said Bob Nitrio, president of Ranvest Associates, Sacramento, Calif. "When Windows 10 is popular in the press, it initiates a lot of discussion with our customers. The good news is, we are in no rush to upgrade to Windows 10. But we still need more answers."

I recently purchased a HP-1d60us. It currently has an a4-3320m APU. I was looking around and found that you can upgrade the APU (which makes since because it is just a CPU, which are interchangeable), but I can't find ANY website that sells amd APS, I have found intel mobile CPUS, but no AMD. Does AMD not sell their APU's by themselves? Could someone point me in the right direction, give me a link, or just tell me AMD doesn't sell their mobile APU's.

A:How do I upgrade my notebook to an SSD

For some people, upgrading a notebook to an SSD may be like diving into the deep end of a swimming pool. An SSD upgrade may involve extensive disassembly of your notebook, depending on the model. Some models have hard disks that are easier to access than others. There is the small, but important detail involving accepting the risk of damaging your notebook and violating the warranty. You will need to decide whether you want to migrate your OS to the new SSD or perform a clean installation of Windows. If you have already upgraded the notebook?s OS to Windows 10, your notebook will have a digital entitlement on the Windows licensing servers. That is Microsoft?s new licensing model which makes activation of the OS a seamless process. In the part of the installation where you see a box to put the twenty-five-character license activation key, there is a link below it that says, I don?t have a key.     That is what you should click on to continue the installation. The type of SSD that will be compatible with your notebook depends on a few things. The first is how recently your notebook came to market. The second is whether your notebook is an entry level or a high-end model with advanced features. The third is dependent on the interfaces present on your notebook?s system board. Your notebook may have only SATA ports or it may also have an M.2 or mini PCIe slot.  Older notebo... A:Notebook CPU upgrade

I strongly suggest you forget about the idea. The difference isn't worth the trouble of the conversion, and it's frequently very difficult to swap processors in laptops. In general, if you gain less than a 1.5:1 improvement in processor speed, you'll notice very little difference in visual performance.

I even connected it through an Ethernet cable and nothing happened. I clicked on the troubleshoot link and windows network diagnostics and it says to Install a driver for your network adapter. Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver. I tried to reinstall the operating system and nothing change. My niece is looking for a laptop for her son possibly for a holiday gift. Office Depot has this machine for $299.00 after $50.00 rebate, and being considered the nerd of the family they always ask me, but I am not familiar with this processor. He just started high school and would be doing some homework, browsing the net, and if any, light gaming on the laptop. He does his gaming on his Xbox 360 at this time. So unlike me who is big into MS Flight Simulator and pc programs like this, he does not do any kind of things like this on their existing old home computer. What about heat issues? And I am sure the ram could be upgraded but almost sure there is no need for his purposes.

Here are the specs:

"HP - Notebook - 15.6 inch - 3 GB RAM - Windows 7 - 320 GB disk - Intel CPU - 2.13 GHz CPU - With DVD Drive - 1366 x 768 - Widescreen - 5.5 pound - 4 hour battery
The Pavilion 2000-210US 15.6 Notebook Computer from Hewlett-Packard is a 15.6 notebook computer that weighs about five and a half pounds. The computer's 16:9 widescreen display features LED backlight technology for superior image quality and enhanced energy efficiency. The system is powered by a dual-core 2.13GHz Intel Pentium P6200 CPU and boasts 3GB of RAM a 320GB 5400rpm hard drive a SuperMulti DVD burner Bluetooth 2.0+EDR 802.11n Wi-Fi and integrated Intel GMA HD graphics. Windows 7 Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit) is the installed operating system."

picked up this USB/SATA wire with the intent to hook it up to a Hard Drive I removed from a lap top and transfer the files to a new Hard Drive I installed in the lap top. I'm sure you know where this is heading, I had no clue what I was doing. I bought the new Hard Drive at Best Buy along with the Upgrade wire brought them home and quickly removed the hard drive and replaced it with the new one. I then quickly opened the Upgrade Kit (bad idea). Anyway this is the problem, I returned the new hard drive and I was thinking they informed that the new hard drive had no operating system so it would not work unless I bought the software. Also, I was going to return the Upgrade kit, but they would not take it back because they said I may have already installed the software that came with the kit. I now have this Upgrade kit that I spent $40.00 for and not  quite sure what to do with it.
This leads to my question, is there any way I can hook this wire up to the old hard drive that will not Boot and send it to my computer?
Then again there may be something in the hard drive that may compromise my hard drive. Do I have any use for this Upgrade kit.
Sorry for the long drawn out post and many questions.
