A:Windows 2000 Resource Kit Tool : Setspn.exe: May 15

Do you have any good tips on running SU.exe from the resource kit? I'm having a hell of a time and I read all the help files on trying to run it. I used the correct syntax like in the examples but no luck.

Any suggestions or good test commands to make it run? In the end I am hoping to make a program run under another user without having to enter in a password all the time.

Been trying out vLite, It's looking pretty cool. Basically it allows you to configure Vista before it's even installed. You extract an ISO, customize the features you want in your install, and add extra drivers etc, then recontruct it and burn it. From there you can install your own custom Vista.

I've managed to get my install down to 800mb after stripping out loads of crap and it sure does run sweet :P

I'm going to post some tutorials and instructions etc on my site as soon as I've played with it some more.

Hi,
Install windows 10 and confirm activation as suggested in forums. Downloaded Windows Media Creation Tool to create fresh reinstall. Ran it to create 64 bit ISO. Now using the ISO to reinstall windows 10. At 30% restore, it failed. I tried various recovery. Even did chkdsk on drive c with /r and also with /f. Same problem again - failure at about 30% restore.

Reading in forums, I discover Refresh Windows Tool(exe). Downloaded and ran it (tool) to download Windows 10.
What I dislike. No Pause or ability to use a download manager. When this download of about 3gb is done, where is it saved? How to use? Yea, automatic for I still have prior install files (programs, data folders, etc) which means nothing was done. Did restart hoping for a fresh reinstall - no changes. Thus I am posting in this forum with paragraph 1 (media tool) and Refresh tool (paragraph 2).

Went into BIOS startup and told it to use DVD (boot order priority), but instead window normal login was done and given. Thus, use window recovery within to execute the ISO.

Hi. I'm new to W-2000pro and am wondering if anybody knows how to make the Windows pop-up toolboxes larger. I am talking about the kind of boxes that Windows pop-ups so that we can make a choice or change in what is happening. An example is if you right click on the desktop and get the Display Properties box. Can we make those type of boxes larger? They won't let me drag them larger.

Thanks, Steve-x8086

A security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to compromise a web server running Microsoft(r) Windows(r) 2000 and gain control over it. This tool, whose usage is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 815021, can be used to apply a registry setting that blocks known exploits of this vulnerability. I am using Revo Uninstaller now but would like to know if this problem is isolated to the Add/Remove Programs or if something else might be harmed. Also, what might have caused

I just came across MyUninstaller - is the Revo OK? Better? Worse?

Hi Guys

i just made some changes to msconfig and made so that a few programs dont start automatically on startup, to speed up my computer a bit, but now when i start my computer it comes up with a message saying:

"you have used the system configuration utility to make changes to the way Windows starts.

the system configuration utility is currently in diagnostic or selective startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the utility to run every time windows starts.

Choose the normal Startup mode on the general tab to start windows normally and undo the changes you made using the system configuration utility.

[]don't show this message or launch the system configuration utility when windows start:"

What do i do? because i don't want to revert back to my old settings, because it'll slow my computer down again, but then i don't know if i want my computer to be running in a funny mode. does anyone know what this means or what i should do?

Thanks heaps!

I am trying to decide what the best option is for configuring (set up, updates, installs) multiple computers on a network domain. Could someone who has experience with at leat one (ideally a few) of these solutions comment on which one is best? We are running mostly windows 10, a few windows 7 machines, and a server with windows 2012. We will most likely only have one or two configurations that will be cookie-cutter for everyone.
The solutions I am considering are:
NTLite
Windows ADK with group policy for some updates
System Center Configuration Manager
Things I would like to consider: Ease of learning and use, speed of setup, and features/usability. I would like to be able to not only install windows updates, but also third party software. What are you using? Is there anything else better than any of these? I'm looking to get a consensus on the best option, so please leave a comment with any opinions on the matter.

My system has Vista Home Premium, with Visual Studio 2008 (.Net framework 3.5). I can't seem to find the tool anywhere on my system so I'm thinking I may need to find where it currently is on my system now and install it or turn it on if it is there or download it if it isn't and then install it or turn it on. I would appreciate any help in either locating it on my existing system, or finding where I can download it from.

Hi there,

New to the forum and some challenge navigating topics, so please forgive if this has been covered.

I am trying to remove a virus titled Security Tool and any other problems from a XP system.

Following is a history of recent unsuccessful attempts
1. downloaded Malwarebytes, ran full scan, found three items, removed and rebooted. no appearance of Virus.

2. Next day, reappearance of virus

3. could not re-run Malwarebytes.

4. Renamed exe file to alternate on alternate computer with flash drive. Could not execute

5. downloaded again, and try to execute with random name from flash drive. Could not execute.

6. Cannot run, regedit; command.com; devmgmt.msc or cmd

7. separately downloaded dds; combofix and win32kdiag; "application cannot be executed." "notepad.exe is infected"
appreciate the support,
IrishO

A:Security Tool Virus (System Tool 2011)

Hello IrishO ,Let's disable the main file manually so you can run some tools. What I want you to look for is in Application Data (If using XP). There will be a folder, with a file in it of the same "name". This will appear random, but it has a pattern. Look for letters and numbers in this order: lower case, upper case, lower case, upper case, lower case, then 5 random numbers. For example:Folder -----> pEeHl02508\pEeHl02508.exe <-----file insideDelete the folder. Now, if you still have no access to the internet, download the following tool to a flash drive from a different computer, then put it on the infected one and run it.This tool is not a toy. If used the wrong way you could trash your computer. Please use only under direction of a Helper. If you decide to do so anyway, please do not blame me or ComboFix.* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. IF YOU USE AVG IT MUST BE UNINSTALLED OR THIS WILL NOT RUN.1. Download this file - combofix.exe http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe 2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please.Note:Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall. If you have trouble running it the first time, then rename ComboFix.exe to IrishO.exe and try again. Thanks, tea

Hiya

Tool for issues discussed in Q296088

Specific support tool to create a truncated copy of a .pst file allowing some recovery when the file size has reached over 2 gig. The copy does not have all the original data because the tool cuts a user defined amount of data from the file.

System Requirements

Recovery Limitations of the 2 GB Truncation Utility:

You must have 2 GB of free hard disk space (to make a copy of the .pst file).
The utility truncates the .pst file to under 2 GB. To have enough working space, truncate the file between 20 to 25 megabytes (MB) less than the 2 GB limit. The truncated data is removed from the new copy, which means some messages are missing from the recovered copy.

I'm looking at a table in ACCESS, but either I didn't make it, or don't remember that I did? So I'm not sure how to find the query that did make it?

Is there some quick way, with a right click or something, to get a table to tell you the source query that made it? updated it? appended it? whatever?

thanks,
J

A:ACCESS 2000? Is there a source tool?

Not unless you already had security setup on the DB to track such actions. Otherwise, you can right-click and select properties to see when the table was created and the last time it was updated.

A:Tool missing in MS Office 2000

You probably installed Outlook as "corporate workgroup", which is GENERALLY used for an exchange server (at work, usually), in which case, you use Tools-Services.

If you want to use it at home, for just one Outlook user account (not email account--you can have as many of those as you like), then go to Tools-Options, Email and look for "reconfigure mail setup" or something like that. Switch it over to Internet Mail Only.

You can easily see which one you've set it up for under Help-About...

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi, Y'all...

I'm running XP Pro SP2 on my desktop at home. Home built, 4 years old, AMD Duron processor. Recently (for last couple of days), any time I try to search, my entire system hangs. I checked the Microsoft articles, and found this, which I have seen cited in other threads here but include below.

On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Server 2003, the Explorer.exe process may experience an error in Rkadmin.dll and unexpectedly quit. To work around this problem, uninstall the Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit. (link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900004/en-us)

Unfortunately, I don't see the W2K Resource Kit in Add/Remove Programs, and if I try to search for the file, well...then I have to Crtl+Alt+Del to get to Task Manager to end task on the explorer window and end process on drwtsn32.exe (if I only end one or the other, it still hangs).

I've been poking around for two days now, because I'm sure the answer is on the very next post I read or article I check, but I leave for vacation in two days, and I need my files!

Please advise. How do I uninstall the Windows 2000 Resource Kit?

I did recently run CCleaner for the registry, but I have the back-up saved in case I need to restore.

Thanks for all the help - y'all have never let me down...

My laptop is infected with a malware that looks exactly like System Tool but it calls itself Windows Tool. I tried to download rkill and it stops all attempts to open it or Malwarebytes. I tried to save rkill to a cd on my desktop but I keep getting the message "You cannot save to this location. Please choose another location." Meanwhile, the laptop has reached some kind of overkill and shut itself down.

This is the 4th time my laptop has been infected and the other times I was able to do a system restore and get rid of it, but this time my system restore only has one option and it's not back far enough; any help with the reason for that would also be very appreciated.

Finally, this is the laptop that my teen son uses to play Blockland and he keeps infecting the )#&($*&%# thing. Is Blockland doing this or is he sneaking onto other sites? I've never found anything in history that would show that, but I am really interested in knowing where NOT to go so we can stop encountering this.

Thanks for all your help.

A:Windows Tool

Hello.Blockland itself isn't harmful. . . but any third party mods or applications might be. There's no way to be absolutely certain. Another possibility is that the machine was never really clean after the first infection. System restore is rarely sufficient for removing malware. One thing you can try. From the following page. . . download the version of Rkill titled iexplore.exe. See if you can get that one to run. If successful, continue with the steps in the following guide. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-windows-toolIf that doesn't work let me know.~Blade

The only way i can get to the internet is through a support limk at the bottom of the page i dont have a start menu or any thing just a blank page i would greatly appreciate any help i can get thank you i have windows vista on a hp pavillion

A:no windows or tool bar

Hi cro, welcome to the board,
You may get into safe mode and search for the unusual or suspected program file and have it removed. If you can't, that means you have got a bad ass one that is very likely you need to restore to previous restore point. If this wouldn't help, boot from OS CD/DVD and repair by restore from there. If failed, save all important data and reinstall Vista.

Good luck and let us know how is it turns out.

I'm told that I need to reinstall xp to fix this problem because it was probably caused by a virus that existed for a time but was removed- but damage was done to the registry--anyway-- when I brouse, or open a program, and minimize it, it no longer leaves an icon in my tool bar--it looks like it is reducing and going into the bottom bar on my screen, but it disapears completely. I am able to bring the window back by pushing alt-tab. And any open programs are visable in task manager under the applications tab, but I miss having them in the tool bar and easily accessed. Anyone know a easy fix?

Windows ISO Downloader is a free program for Windows that allows you to download Windows operating system ISO images from Microsoft servers.

Downloading an ISO image of the operating system that is already installed on devices you are working with is always a good idea in case you need to reinstall the operating system or repair it.

Microsoft for whatever reason makes it difficult to grab official ISO images of versions of Windows that it supports currently.

You have to dig deep to find official and direct download links of Windows ISO images on Microsoft's website.

One of the better solutions is offered on the company's Techbench website, but it only highlights downloads for Microsoft's newest operating system Windows 10.

We have revealed in the past how you can modify the page using development tools that are part of all modern web browsers to display ISO download links for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 as well.

Windows ISO Downloader

Windows ISO Downloader is a free program for Windows that does more or less the same. It displays the available operating systems that you can download ISO images from -- those are Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 and Windows 10 Insider Preview -- and loads a form that looks identical to the one found on the Techbench website.

Note: Windows ISO Downloader does not need to be installed but it does require the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.1.

First, you are asked to select the edition that you want t... Read more

No
you need to format & reinstall XP

you should have read the webpage carefully before installing W8

It might have backed up XP but you can't boot to it any longer. You can hopefully copy off nay vital documents etc that are needed before you format & reinstall XP

This is probably a super simple question for most of you..

The tool bar at the bottom of the screen. I've recently loaded a few programs and performed some tasks that i don't really understand (at the advice of this forum to remove spyware) and now all my program icons on the tool bar are crammed into a tiny space at the right hand side, next to the clock. There's an up-down arrow that i can use to scroll through open programs.

Before they would start on the left and fill up, and now i would like it back the way it was.

Sorry if some of my terminology is wrong.

I recently reformatted my computer because of a Malware and I felt like changing it up so I partitioned my drive to Windows 7 and I'm looking for some tool like I had on Windows XP that allows me to unlock anything and delete because I have some locked files on my external hard drive that I cannot enter nor can I delete which arouses my suspicion that my malware might be hibernating in there. I've ran a few virus scanner such as Norton, AVG, Avast! and some free Trojan removal software and I had a few traces left but now nothing comes up but I'm still slightly paranoid about this.

Anyway... I'm looking for help about some software that can unlock and delete anything.. and maybe (I know I'm in the wrong section) but if you know anything further I should do about this threat.

Thanks.

Hi,

I back up my music, photos, docs from time to time using win 7s built in backup tool. When I back my stuff up does the software backup just the new entries? As it would be pointless already backing up stuff that's been backed up previous.

A:Windows backup tool

Hello Clark,

The backups are incremental. Windows Backup backs up all selected folders the first time it's run and then it only backs up files that are new or have been changed since the last scheduled backup was made.

The blue Note box at the top of the tutorial below can give you more detailed information on the workings of this if you like.

A large number of PC users today use USB drives to install Windows operating system thanks to dirt cheap USB drives and plenty of free tools out there for creating bootable USB drives.

Back in Windows XP and Vista days, most users were not even aware of the fact that it?s possible to install Windows operating system from USB drives. The method became popular with the release of Windows 7 Beta in January 2009. Plenty of free utilities have been released since than with variety of options to help users create bootable USB to install Windows operating system from USB drive.

After the release of Windows 7 RTM in October 2009, Microsoft also released its official Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool to help users easily make USB drives bootable and then install Windows from the bootable USB drive.
Windows USB/DVD Download Tool
The official Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool is one of the largely used tools to prepare bootable USB of Windows operating system. Although it has not received any major updates since its initial release, Microsoft has quietly renamed the program page as Windows USB/DVD Download Tool in the last few months.

As you likely know, a couple of months ago, the official page of Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool used the title Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool but the title of the page is now Windows USB/DVD Download Tool. The content on the page even refers to the software as Windows USB/DVD Download Tool. Going by last edited information on CodePlex, it looks like... Read more

I have a brand new 16GB drive that I am trying to use so it has PLENTY of space on it. Anyway, I go to run to tool and it gets to the part where it says formatting and then it says something like "we are unable to copy your files, check the USB drive and the ISO and try again."

Anyone run in to that issue? I tried to google it but can't seem to find an easy fix. Any thoughts?

Hello,

I'd like to use Windows 7 DVD/USB Download Tool & I have a question. When using the USB Copy part and after installing Windows 7, can I delete the installation files on the USB? It seems like you can't do this with a CD, so I'd like to know about a USB too as I need to use my USB in the future.

Thanks

Of course, USB drives are erasable and re-usable.

I have been using Malwarebytes Anti Malware (free edition)for over a year and each time I run it it finds one infected item. I originally had an infection that had the classic symptoms of the Windows Tool Malware. I had to down load, rename and run the cleaner under safe mode but ever since this lingering part has remained. It is always the same thing named "Windows.Tool.Disabled"
I just got a new laptop and after I downloaded and installed the Malwarebytes program it found it on the first run. Can this virus be on my hands? I would really like to be rid of this.

HI,
Right now I have a computer in my office that is running out of disk space on the 4 Gig Hard Drive, but when I opened the spanning tool in XP I saw that she had a 4 Gig Partition and 2 Gig Partition and it is just sitting there. I installed a 20 Gig Hard drive, because we had one in the office, but if I can span from the 4 gig to the 2 gig and m ake 6, I think she will be fine. I can't figure out how to use that spanning tool.

I made them both Dynamic, but it will not let me extend on the disk with all tha data, I don't want to play around too much in fear of losing the data. She is the one person in the office that keeps a lot of data locally, which I have backed up, but I still don't want to mess it up.

Thanks for any help or any ideas.

Allison

Heya, I've been having so much trouble lately with this, such a pain gahhh..

Alright so i'm trying to run bootcamp on my mac, as i have no blank Dvd's i'm trying to use my 8gb pendrive. I downloaded my files for windows 7 as an iso, used Windows 7 USB TOOL, but then it says:

Files copied successfully. However, we were unable to run bootsect to make the USB device bootable.

(I've also tried Universal USB Installer, this time with no errors. But when i connect it to my mac, nothing happens.

What can be the problem?

I'm doing this off a Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit

A:Windows 7 USB/DVD TOOL not working?

Try UltraISO Software To Create Bootable USB Flash Drive which always works for me.

You'll need to figure out how to boot it on the Mac.

Hey Shawn,
I have a bit of a different problem. Ultimately I'm trying to repair Windows 7 (got your tutorial from another thread) so I downloaded the Windows 7 USB DVD tool to burn an install disk from an ISO. I can't install it. And I couldn't update other programs yesterday either. I have the "Run as Administrator" on the context menu but nothing happens (well the screen dims as if it's about to ask me if it's ok to run, but nothing happens. It just un-dims after several minutes). I was trying to run an elevated command prompt so I could run sfc /scannow and it wouldn't open an elevated command prompt either.

A:Can't install Windows 7 USB DVD tool

Hello DB,

When the screen dims, press an arrow key to see if you see the UAC prompt afterwards to click on Yes. I get this sometimes as well, and don't see it until I do.

Hello Friends!

Which according to you is the best Windows Enhancing Tool??? Consider features, ease in usage and system resources while deciding...

Thank you.

A:Which is the best Windows Enhancing tool???

I'd have to say simply replacing the uxtheme.dll so you can use visual styles is the best over all due to its ease and the amount of VS's out there. Also Ave Desk would be a good one for people that like widgets and such. My personal fav due to the low amount of memory it consumes.

Hi, I'm looking for a Windows 7 customization tool i found some time ago, but i can't remember the name. It had a alien-space interface, and a robotic-futuristic voice when it started or clicked on any tool. It could change the logon animation, logon screen, logon startup sound, change your drive/library icons and many more. Also there was two versions of the software, like part 1 & 2, and they both did completely different things. I found them in one customization forum, the post was made by the original software author. Does anyone happen to know which one i'm talking about? It was one of the best custom tools I've found.

BTW: It's not UWC (Ultimate Windows Customization)
