Presario 1622 56K-DF Modem driver for XP

Hi guys. I have noticed that when i installed winXP on my old presario 1622 it didnt detected the modem. I've tried to find the driver for XP but i'm having a little trouble with it. I went to the hp/compaq site but there's a driver but only for win 95/98/ME. I downloaded it but when using the .inf file trying winxp to detect it, it doesn´t work.

Everything was ok when it had win98 because it detected the modem right away...i know, this machine wasn´t supposed to work with xp but with good ram and a good hard drive it is working well

The modem in question is the Compaq Presario 56K-DF modem. If anyone knows where to find this driver, please let mi know.

A:WinXP Modem Driver for presario 1622

Take down the chip name, board, and product numbers, then look for the WXP drivers on www.driverguide.com. The drivers are there, and are free. The Presario used several different modems. The 56k-DF doesn't help unless you also know the brand... if you cannot figger it out, repost with the modem card and chip numbers here and we will guide you.
The modem is usually a Lucent, now found as Agere. The driverguide version that usually works is the Presario 1275 56K-DF, file name SP20530, which you can also find with a www.hp.com search.

Hello. Does anyone know if USB drivers written for Windows XP will work with Windows XP Embedded?
Thanks.

A:WinXP / WinXP Embedded USB Driver Interoperability

XP Embedded is supposedly a componentized version of Window XP. It's intended for OEM's developing an embedded computer, usually for some industrial or large commercial application, rather than your run-of-the-mill PC.

I have a PC which has a PC-Chips M755-LMR Motherboard with a CNR modem. for some reason Windows does not detect the modem. I checked in BIOS to make sure it was turned on in there and there is no such setting. I then took out the CNR modem and tried a PCI modem, which XP also did not pick up. Does anybody have any idea why Windows wouldn't pick up either of these modems? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Modem not detected by WinXp

You might try downloading and installing drivers for that modem. http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/drivers_modem.html
Look at the model number of the modem and choose the correct drivers for XP. If it's not listed here (I only had the CNR to go by) then try a search with the model number and you may also be able to get away with Windows 2000 drivers.

I cannot get a new US Robotics 8656e V.92 modem to connect within Passport. Spoke to AT&T tech support and they claim possible conflicts between WinXP, Passport, & the modem. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to setup this modem? The Passport software does not have this model and chooses a generic one that does not work. I've tried the USR 56000 Sportster and that also does not work. Getting a no carrier error.

Sounds like you need to install the USR driver for the 8656e modem. Check out USR's site for instructions on installing the driver:

Hi All,

I have an Application called RDX to use MODEMs for connecting to our network and sending/receving files. It works well in win98. But when I had installed it in win2k and winxp, first connection is thru but the subsequent connections fail.

Also If I close the application and run again, first connection is thru but the subsequent connections fail. I get 668 connection dropped error..

Can somebody please help me.

fyi: I don't have source code for the app.
-----------------------
the INI file for the RDX had an IP to connect to. With winxp/win2k the app connects when I remove the IP from the INI file. For win98 it connects when the IP is in.

Thank you very much

Hi,
Recently i upgraded a pc from win98 to winxp. all did seem to be going well untill i needed to install a new modem.

The existing modem(swannsmart external) is playing up so i got a new internal one. now when i did the O/S upgrade the swannsmart was the current modem.

when i tried to install the new internal, xp finds that there is a new device (PCI simple controller etc...) but when i install the driver, all seems to be going well untill it finishes installing and says "There was a problem during the installation"
"data is invalid"

Now i have checked for newer updated drivers, and i even tried a different modem to no avail.

To my knowledge i believe that there is some sort of issue with the upgrade from win98 to winxp. I'm not sure but i think the device drivers may be getting overwritten by the previous drivers from win98???

as i said i am not sure but this is the only answer i can come up with.

if someone can help me out by offering an explantion or a cure for this problem i would be very appreciative!!! As this problem has been haunting me for a week now!

Thanks for any help offered

Question ! I'm having trouble installing a Motorola SM56 Modem with WinXP. For starters the computer was running
Win98 and the modem was fine. I tried to upgrade to WinXP but did the system check first. I received the Message that
the modem was incompatable with WinXP. I checked with Motorola if there is a new driver available, and they suggested
using the Win2000 driver, which should work. So I downloaded that. Microsoft says that the modem can only be installed
if it is a new install, and that once the driver of the modem is on WinXP it can not be upgraded or changed. For whatever
reason.
So I took the modem out of the computer, I had to format harddrive for some other problems did a clean install of Win98
and then went on to upgrade to WinXP. I had some other incompatable trouble with an onboard Yamaha ds-xg sound
but I downloaded the updated driver off of yamaha and it seems to work, it just gave the message that the driver is not
'signed' ?? by microsoft and that I shouldn't use it??? Well how the heck am I going to get the soundcard going without
an updated xp driver of yamaha?? I installed it anyway and it works. What is this signature stuff all about anyway?
So what exactly can I do with that modem, as I said, I downloaded the updated driver already. I installed the modem back
on the Motherboard, start up the computer and it detects it, I tell it where the driver file is, (extracted on the harddisks
temp file) but it doesn't want to find it th... Read more

Yep, having some major trouble getting a directly connect cable modem to work with my WinXP machine.

Simply, Windows XP cannot contact the DHCP 'server' in my Motorola SB4200 modem. Windows XP boots, waits, then the system assigns the NIC a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx address...

I've tried this modem and connection on a Win98 machine (which I'm using right now) and it works fine. No problem with the modem...

I've also tried:

1) A different NIC

2) Resetting the TCP/IP stack via the Netsh command

3) Going over the SPECIFIC settings for the connection with a cable company rep

4) Pinging localhost - the NIC seems to be bound to TCPIP fine.

5) Firewall issues - All visable settings show off. I had ZoneAlarm on initially and stumbled on some hidden TrueVector services which I thought were the cause, but I disabled them and uninstalled ZoneAlarm - wiping all trace of it from my system. I've identified the Windows Firewall service in Windows Services and its disabled.

6) Viruses - I have NAV w/ most recent defs and have performed a full scan with no trace of viruses.

phew. I've been busy but no luck. Anything come to mind!? I know I must be missing something!!!!!!

Thanks!

After upgrading from Win2K to WinXP I am no longer able to connect using my ATT Worldnet connection. First I attempted to "Restore my account" and got the message "There is no Modem configured. Please Configure a modem and restart Registration process." I check my modem and it is enabled and working properly. It is an Agere Win Modem, location: PCI bus 2, device 6, function 0. The driver version is 8.30.0.0 with a date of 7/1/2003. I downloaded the latest driver "8.30.0.0" from the agere website and it said that it was supported by XP but when installing, got the message that it did not have the XP compatibility logo so no guarantees.

Problem: inability to connect after clean install Windows XP done for computer freezes.

I have a WinMe Dell 400 desktop attached to a Motorola Surfboard 4100 external cable modem via an Asante PCI network card and a Dell 8100 laptop with Windows XP which is also attached to the same Surfboard cable modem by a USB connection. All worked normally together for the past 3 months.

Because of recurrent total laptop computer freezes, increasing over the past few days when downloading, using IE6, and requiring power off, I did a clean install of Windows XP this AM and also I followed explicitly the instructions of Motorola in installing the cable modem. The freeze occurred for example on trying to install ˇ§My Yahooˇ¨ and perform Windows update with IE6. I then installed all other programs. The same freeze problem recurred when using a dialup landline modem as well as when using Netscape 6 and also IE6 when I tried to download. I.e. both browsers froze on both connections. I was however able to update Nortonˇ¦s Antivirus.

This PM I did a 2nd format and clean install on the laptop of WinXP, the Dell drivers (nothing else) and again followed the Motorola instructions to install the cable modem.

Now clicking IE6 > ˇ§no connection to internet availableˇ¨ and ˇ§the page cannot be displayed.ˇ¨ This is even a worse problem.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the cable modem as per Motorola multiple times.

I'm using Win XP and have discovered that you have to manually enter all the TCP/IP settings. The setup wizard will just screw it up. Once you have manually entered the host, DNS server and gateway address and rebooted, try using Ping with the DNS server. If the server replies, then you are ready for IE6. Good luck.

Howdy folks,

So I just got a new laptop with Windows XP Professional installed on it. Problem is, I can't get connected to the Internet with it. I have a RoadRunner connection and a cable modem, but when I hook the cable from the modem up to the laptop, it tries to acquire an IP address and tells me that it can't get one (so it reverts to 169.254.something).

I know it's not the modem or the cable, because when I hook my desktop up to the same modem using the same cable, I can connect to the Internet, and type this here message, just fine. So the modem and cable are working properly. (I should say here that I don't have any "home network" to speak of, nor do I have a wireless connection; all I have is one cable modem and one cable for it.)

I tried turning off Windows Firewall, and changing the "duplex mode" setting on the network card (it was on Auto Negotiation), but it was to no avail. I still can't connect.

The network card used by this non-working connection is Realtek RTL8139 Fast Ethernet NIC. TCP/IP Internet Protocol is also installed in the connection.

I have some software RoadRunner gave me (something like the RoadRunner Welcome Kit), but it apparently assumes that I must already be connected, because when I try to use it, it tries to connect to the Internet and fails.

I also tried manually giving my laptop the same IP as the one my desktop uses to connect to the network. This stopped giving me error messages about &q... Read more

I have a Dell 4300 that I inherited from my dad, running WinXP-home, with a factory Conexant v.92 56K voice modem When I install AOL, or NetZero either, (I tried that too) everything seems to connect fine until it gets to downloading the list of access numbers. At that point, the modem disconnects. I have run all the diagnostics I can find, and connected through Hyperterminal, and it all checks out fine, no problems. I have even installed two other modems, added +MS=V34 to the commands, changed the default to read the same, set the speed to 9600 baud, tried to force it to use Com 3 (it defaults to the next available, Com 5), and I have run out of ideas. Same deal (or worse) every time. I am currently on line with my old computer, using exactly the same phone line, even the same cord. It is slow, I'll admit, because I live in the boondocks, but it does work just fine. So why won't the other one work? I have a feeling that some setting in the bios is causing a conflict, but nothing I've tried there works either. Does anyone have any ideas? Oh, and I talked to my dad, he used the same modem and never had any problems. I am obviously out of my league here...

If you are not using your serial ports go into your BIOS and disable them. I had a similar problem and XP Home kept wanting to grab the IRQ3 serail port. I could not change the setting in Windows for whatever reason so I disabled the ports. It's not like I use them anyway.

Hi,

My PC came with WINXP factory installed. After 4 years of hard use, I decided to reformat my HD with the restore disk that came with the PC> I had saved backup files of all of my programs, documents, pics, etc. The reformat went smoothly.

But then, when the PC booted up, it said windows had recovered from a SERIOUS error. I wrote down most of the tech info --- it said something about a dumpfile. I have it written down if it's needed--it's very long!
Anyways, I guess it didn't recover from that serious error, because every time I try to connect, using my dialup fax/modem, as soon as the modem engages, the pc shuts down and reboots.

I'm using PeoplePC. I called them, and they said it is a virus. I told them but how? i just reformatted the HD---it's brand new again, like out of the box! They couldn't help me.

SO, I need some help, please!~ I've had to borrow a friend's desktop pc and lug it home, just so I could get online here and try to get some help.
Below is the tech info I pulled from the error message. (It was asking me if I wanted this info sent to Microsoft. I just laughed---HOW to send it when the damn modem is shutting down my PC?!)

I own a second hand Mesh computer and I have none of the official documentation. Recently I reformatted my pc to Windows XP Professional SP3 and did my best to collect drivers and so forth. The problem I am having is installing the correct driver for my Ethernet Port.

I found that I needed the driver associated with the motherboard -- ASUS P5N-E SLI. Went to the manufacturers site and located the LAN driver here -- http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5N-E SLI

I cannot work out how to install this driver. There is no .EXE and after a closer investigation I found it to be a Remote Installation. I did a google search but with my little knowledge of the topic, nothing seemed to answer my installation query. The documentation included speaks of a RIS image and an unknown directory to me -- RemoteInstall\Setup\Language\Images\Dir_name\I386

Any help on installing this driver? If there is any extra information needed, I'll do my best. Thanks in advance, I know how useful this forum can be.

I have a fairly old notebook that I have been doing a pretty good job of keeping on life support. I've updated and upgraded everything and everything else works just peachy except now I have a problem with WinXP and the CD-ROM drive.

The notebook is a Toshiba Satellite 2250CDT with a TEAC CD-224E-B CD-ROM drive. In Device Manager there is a yellow exclamation point on this drive. The Device status is "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupt or missing (Code 39)".

I'm guessing the TEAC driver is incompatible with WinXP and there is nothing on the TEAC or Toshiba websites. Is there such a thing as a generic driver? I've scoured the web looking for an answer and you may be my last great hope. Any ideas?

A:WinXP driver issues

Hi, Your motherboard has a chipset from VIA, and usually you must install motherboard drivers from an install CD, or download from the support site for the Gigabyte board...did you do this?
You have an onboard video adapter/chip. May need to disable it in the BIOS....I am not sure as some allow you to just install an added in card and load new drivers, some do not.
You may have to load the Standard VGA adapter drivers, then after that is loaded and running in 16 color (yuck) you can install the right drivers for your OS and the Radeon and it will install.
I would review the instructions from the mobo manual for installing an add in video card- the manual, if you do not have one, is here::
http://www.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/Products/Products_GA-7VKMP.htm
manual found in the list on the left.
Reading the FAQs might be quicker than opening the manual online with Adobe Acrobat.... but, it says "Coming soon" for them...oh well, manual is best I can do, unless you or someone can hunt for details on how to use add in video card easily.
Might be just the standard step by step, uninstall all video drivers and switch to SVGA, then install new ones. Safe Mode can help with this.

Note that there is a 7VKMP-P version of this board.

I've been having a slight problem with my SATA controller drivers. The nvidia drivers that I was using would always cause a bsod pointing to nvgts.sys in system32/drivers. While trying to figure out which driver to install as a replacement, i found the nvgts.sys file and deleted it from system32/drivers folder, just to see what would happen... Now Windows XP can't boot up because the driver is missing lol; I can't even get into safe mode. So, is there any way to reinstall the driver from the Windows CD-ROM or something? I used this disk on a pc the other day and same thing happened(Is this common?) anyway I downloaded all the drivers from the dell site and checked the pc, played cd,played video and connected to the internet all ok. problem I'm faced with now is the owner uses a usb dongle ( from his mobile phone company) to get on the 'net but it wont work on the pc yet if I put it in mine it works fine, I was thinking it was something to do with the usb ports but then how come the keyboard and mouse still work.
next idea was maybe it something to do with the wireless driver, I checked device manager but can't find anything wrong, so I guess I don't know what I'm looking for, so I came here for enlightenment

Hello!
I am new here, and I hope someone here can really help me out of this dilemma. My wife somehow downloaded and installed a certain driver she thought it was to be upgraded for Window XP Pro. After she rebooted it, she got as far as just before the log on, everything freeze. I ask if she remembers what the driver was she downloaded and installed, she didn?t know for sure what it was. I try booting into WinXP Pro Safe Mode, and it did the same thin, mouse and all. I cannot log onto Safe Mode. Believing it may have been a certain driver in conflict with something incompatible ? possibly the USB ? I unplug all the devices using the USB including the mouse. The results are still the same, if froze as before. I use the command.exe to run chkdsi /r to see if it can repair it. That one fails. I try using the WinXP CD in an attempt to repair the Windows without losing the data. That didn?t work either.
My only option is possible reformatting the hard drive, but I do not want to reformat the hard drive until I can figure out how I can retrieve the important data (My Documents). I remember I can easily do that with Windows 95 using the DOS command by coping most of my files to the floppy disk. It was time consuming, but it was worth it before the invention of the Flash. Now I can?t figured out how I can retrieve the data to be copy to the Flash since WinXP doesn?t work like Windows 95. The hard drive, by the way, is healthy. It?s just like I say, there is a driver conflict that... Read more

Using the Windows Installation disk, did you try running "chkdsk /f" ? If so did it report and/or fix any errors ? Run chkdsk multiple times and get several clean scans before moving on; the HD may be getting ready to fail.

Also, in Recovery Console, run "fixboot" and "fixmbr".

Try Safe Mode. When booting to Safe Mode, disconnect ALL hardware except for the keyboard.

If all of these fail, you may need to run a Repair Install.

Having a bit of an issue with a driver. Motherboard is MSI K8T Neo MS-6702 ver. 1.0 running XP Pro SP3. I've installed all the driver's from the website as I don't have a driver disc for the MB.

Device Manager shows a WinXP Promise FastTrack 376/378 (tm) Controller with a code 10 error device cannot start. I've tried a few driver's and all have the same result. Forgive me if I sound noobish, but I'm a bit behind in my hardware The cpu is a 64-bit AMD Athlon 3000+ running at 2GHZ. I've installed 32-bit version of XP.

I pulled an old printer out of the closet to use on a new PC that I am building...just to have a printer connected to it. It doesn't work with the print driver provided with WinXP and Canon no longer supports it. Does anyone know where I might find a print driver for it. It prints test pages very nicely.

I just got a second-hand Dell Optiplex GX260. The original purchaser bought it with XP pre-loaded, and had only the reinstallation CD, which I got. Unfortunately, the CD says "This CD is not for reinstallation of programs or drivers." This apparently is true as I'm finding that I have to use the device mfr's disk to get drivers whenever I attach something to the computer. I was wondering if there's a separate driver disk that came with computer (the guy I bought from doesn't recall), and if so, where I can get one. I tried calling Dell, but got tired of pressing and holding.

Hi, recently I've been having some problems with my computer so I decided to give it a reformat. Up to this point I used to leave my computer at BestBuy to get things done because quite frankly I don't know squat about computers. But this time around I wanted to learn my way around the advanced aspects of computer maintenance, so I decided to do it myself.

At first I had to learn what BIOS is and how to make my computer boot from CD rom. No biggie, didn't take me too long. But when it got to the actual installation part I got a message that read something like "hard disk not detected." I gave it another try before searching the net again for an answer. I found one case in a different tech forum that was similar to mine, and most of the replies suggested that he either needed a fresh RAID driver install or reinstall in a different driver mode. After fiddling around on Dell's support page for a bit with the help of a very, very kind person I met online I finally made a RAID driver disk and gave the whole thing ANOTHER try. No dice, it still couldn't detect the hard disk even after the drivers were installed.

So I simply decided to try the whole thing in different driver mode and I'm afraid this is what sealed my fate. I was able to fdisk in "RAID autodetect / ATA" mode (it was originally set to "RAID autodetect / AHCI" mode) and install a new copy of Windows - except I can't install any drivers necessary to ru... I am trying to reinstall WinXp onto my Dell Inspiron 2200. I had no problems with the OS when I installed it. But when it comes time to extract and install from the Drivers and Utilities disk, many of the drivers applications and utilities simply do not install. I get what seems to be one of two error messages. Either that an object was not found, or it cannot install on this system. The only utilities that seemed to install without a problem where ones that worked for WinXp and Win2000 and that were also listed as compatible with every Inspiron model type in the drop down list. A few months back I reinstalled WinXp on this machine without these problems using the same two disks. I do remember that when using the Drivers and Utilites disk, Inspiron 2200 was not a model number available on the drop down list. XPS, 600m, 300m, 8600, and 1150 were on there to name a few. I recall using the files for one of those model types and never having any problems. Anyone know if any models out there use the same drivers as a 2200? Or if something may have went wrong when I installed WinXp. Thanks.

Alright, I give up. If you go into your Windows XP device manager and View > Show Hidden Devices, look under Network adapters. You'll see WAN Miniport drivers, probably several of them. Unfortunately, on one of my Windows XP Pro machines, I don't. They're not there. Now, they're just software drivers, so it should be quite easy... but how do I add them?

A:WinXP: Install WAN Miniport driver?

I think I've got it...

If anyone runs into this, here's how I fixed it, although not well tested yet:

I just exported related registry settings from a similar, but working computer. Specifically, those referring to the ndiswan and related drivers. It seems that the most important of those are in Local_Machine\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\MS_NDIS...

Then, I temporarily changed the permissions using regedt32 on the non-working computer so that I could modify the Root folder... And imported! With a restart, the missing devices are showing up.

A week ago my computer crashed. Something wrong with one of the coolers. When I tried to re-install WinXP, but it failed. Something to do with a NTLDR-failure. I brought my pc to the retailer. They fixed all problems.

Yesterday i discovered my sound isn't working anymore. When i use Winamp to play any sound, the following message appears: Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers (...). Error code: 88780078.

Strange, 'cause everything worked fine under the previous install of WinXP.

Another strange thing: my computer seems to recognize the hardware, but 'there is no device installed'.

I want to try to install the Audigy-software again. Maybe that'll work, but my 'installation and applications cd' seems to be damaged. I can't read antything from it.

Help me.

I recently bought the supposedly excellent Canon MP530 multi-function printer, etc. and went to install it on my WinXP pro machine and . . . nothing. I've spent some time with Canon tech support (some helpful, some not so helpful) but I still can't get the freakin' things to communicate with each other. The consistent result of my installations is "no driver is installed" or "cannot find driver" - even though the driver itself seems to install. Also, when I turn the printer on, I get the New Hardware Wizard, which, I think, means my computer is detecting the printer. It's as if the driver is just not recognized by my computer.
I've installed (and uninstalled) the drivers from both the disc that came with the printer and from the Canon website. I've used two different USB cables. I've tried many combinations of plugging/unplugging, starting/restarting, turning on/off - all to no avail.
I've logged on as the Administrator. I've done my best to shut down any programs or processes- though I think this is tricky, as I don't necessarily know what each thing in my Startup or Services is. I've even tried installing from SafeMode. I've tried using the New Hardware Wizard; I've tried ignoring the New Hardware Wizard. I've received a few error messages, but only when attempting the full installation from the disc. The messages are: "AddPrinterDriverEx Error:2", "AddPrinter Error:1797&... Read more

Specs:
WinXP Pro
AMD Socket 939 (AMD X2 4200)
NVIDIA nForce4 SLI - GA-K8N Pro-SLI
2.5GB ram

So I was having problems with connecting to the internet so I decided to reinstall my drivers for my LAN device. The installation didnt seem to have worked successfullly (nForce utilities were not working) so I tried reinstalling the driver again. After installation completed, instead of saying "You must restart your computer now or later" all that came up was "1155: [Okay]"
Then I restarted the computer and now it does not load XP after BIOS initiations. Just kind of stalls with a black screen, but the computer does not reset or shut down, just stalls.
It gets passed the BIOS stuff but does not show any of the XP boot screens.
I looked it up a little and found http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
that for data recovery, and potentially making the drive bootable again?
I'm not sure what to do, any way to get the computer to boot windows again without any loss of data? And a correct procedure of reinstalling the LAN driver would be nice, as it didnt work as I expected (unusual)
Any and all help is appreciated, hopefully I can get my rig back up and running in no time!

Once it gets past the POST screen, press F8 a few times and see if you can get into Safemode.

If you can, then you could use System Restore to roll the config back before the drama.

compaq 5wv270/windows 98/kds 17" crt monitor

I started out with problems with win 98. Had changed several parts of my compaq computer so my recovery cd would not work. I still have recovery cd but I can not get any information off of it. I Finally purchased a new, full install copy of win 98 and reinstalled windows. Now I need new drivers. I thought I found correct drivers and installed them. When I go to control panel / system / device manager it shows the modem and driver installed. If I go to control panel / modem / diagnostics it shows no modem. Aol will not work.
I know that the modem is good. If I plug the modem into a computer running win xp, it finds and installs driver and everything works fine. I just cannot get modem to work in win 98 ( it did before I reformatted hard drive and reinstalled win 98) (Yes I was stupid and reformatted hard drive without saving old drivers or even finding out name of file or modem.)
What do I do now? I also have lousy driver for monitor. It is new kds monitor but new driver loaded by win 98 only gives 16 colors/640 display.
It is most important to fix modem problem first so I can get back on line.
Thanks,

Excuse the question if it seems at all DUMB! Though I've been using computers forever I don't know how they work. So, I have a Dell Dimension 8200 that constantly crashes when I'm on the Internet. It crashed yesterday and I had to use the Power button to shut off the computer. Now I can't connect to the internet anymore. I can't even pull up the logon screen! I attempted to jiggle chords and reset my DSL equipment but nothing worked. I then tried reinstalling the software 1st without removing the previous version. When that didn't work I removed the old version OF SBC and attempted to reinstall again. However, the installation process gets locked up and never gets past the point of attempting to connect to the internet. WHAT'S GOING ON?! CAN i FIX IT? Or, just get a new computer?

So after downloading it from the site, i followed the directions and rebooted but the modem redetects and re-installs itself with the existing driver without asking for the new updated driver. How do i use this thing?

A:modem driver

Try installing the modem manually. Leave the non functioning modem installed, go to the Control Panel>. All New Hardware. Follow the directions but dont let it self detect new hardware. Pick the modem to install, point it to where you saved the downloaded drivers. It should install with the new ones and if it works, you can go back and delete the non functioning one from Control Panel>Modems

Hi all!

I have read on several threads here on TSG that it's often helpful to update the modem drivers to get the fastest connection possible. I have never updated my modem, and at present, I get a miserable 24 kbs connection. Now, I do live very far up in the mountains, so I realize that that will be part of the problem, but I would like to at least do everything possible to get the most out of my dial-up, lol. By the way, I ONLY have dial-up available, so that is why I am trying to get it working as best as I can.

So, I went looking for my modem's drivers. And got really confused, lol. Here is what Everest says about my modem:

Harmonics (Conexant) HSF 56k HSFi Modem

And here is what my system info says:

CNXT V9x PCI modem

So, I went to the Conexant website, and they kept saying that they only make generic drivers and to make sure that one goes to the manufacturer's website, ......but that IS Conexant!

So I go to DriverGuide, but it gives me a HUGE list of Conexant drivers........

Could someone please point me in the right direction of the correct driver for my modem??

I recently purchased a used Gateway E4100 computer with Windows XP from a local school system at a great price. I didn't realize when I bought it that it didn't have a modem for my dial-up internet needs. I visited my local computer store where they gave me a used one for cheap, but now I am having problems locating the modem drivers for it. It has been a real headache searching for the drivers on-line when 95% of the driver download sites require that you have internet on the computer you are getting the drivers for so that their program can scan your computer for the correct updates. I would love to do this, but since I am downloading the drivers so I can access the internet in the first place it's pretty pointless. I have installed the modem, but the device status is a "Code 10," simply the device cannot start. I get all sorts of numbers as far as the modem (model) goes. Under properties it says it is a HSP56 MR manufactured by eMachine. The number off the modem itself says it is a Dell intel 56K Data Fax Modem X2749 537epg. I need a driver that I can download onto a USB stick so that I can insert it into my computer and load it so that my modem will finally work. Please help! I am at my whits end in trying to fix this on my own.

And just to be clear, are you using this modem to connect to the internet with a dialup connection? Or are you connected on a high speed connection and you must disable the modem in order to be connected? I am a little confused.

If you are using the modem, how is it that it does not work? In other words, do you receive an error message? Does it not dial out? Please describe in more detail exactly what is happening.

bought a zoom 3025 56k v.92 modem over the weekend and installed it. when i fired it up it would only connect at 4800 bps then disconnect after a minute(btw, I'm using my old external modem right now).

called up my ISP said it's probably a driver problem. I've been trying to get into thier web site all day www.zoom.com and no luck.

Anybody got any ideas on what I can do?

Someone gave me a discarded pc last night, and I've been working on it since. It's not new, PIONEX (brand) has Pentium 2, had WIN 95 in it. And many years of junk. Thus it was discarded for a new DELL notebook.

I've been letting people know if they have a computer they're throwing out, I want it to learn on.

I first had to replace the CD ROM (one I had on hand) and formatted C and installed WIN 98. No problems, went in great.

When I came to set it up for online, it doesn't have a driver for the modem.

I've been trying to track it down, but about to give up. I have another modem to put in, but the one that's in it, has the sound jacks in it (mic and speakers). It has another card above it, with plugs, but think it's aux speakers or something because the speakers that came with it don't work in that one. It has 3 plugs (showing on the back) red, green and black, with "sound" icon (like waves) beside them.

The regular speaker (and mic) plugs seem to be in the modem. Showing in the back beside the phone cord plugs. The two cards are connected with a thin sound clip/wires.

The modem says on it: WINCOM 56 SLM 010-0419A-01-BOO C S/N 0043842
(I wasn't sure if that was BOO or 800 but on the google site I found it was BOO)
Looking in google, I found this exact same name and number, the source (of the driver) is driverguide.com. I sign in, and put it in SEARCH and can't find it. I can find different ones by Jaton th... Read more

I just acquired a machine with an internal 56Kb P&P modem. The system found it and loaded a driver. It is identified as a Conexant SoftK56 PCI Modem(M). The driver is identified the same way (?) It seems to want to work and connect to my ISP - but it dials and dials and dials. In aprox 50 attempts it has connected just once. My external 56 (same machine & phone-line/lead) connects just fine every time. I have experimented with some of the settings (buffer sizes, port speed, etc.) and moved to different PCI slot. Nothing helps. Can someone recommend another driver or provide info on Conexant Semiconductor modems (problems, reliability, etc). Thanks in advance.....................bk

if it is dialing you probably need to check dialing properties to make sure it is dialing the correct number for your isp

I just upgraded a PC from Windows 95 to 2000. I am trying to find the driver to a Hi-Val 56k PCI modem. I've gone to their web site but the drivers did not help. It gives me a zip file. I exctracted these file to the hard drive but still cannot get the modem to access these files. Model number is H561P-00R with a ess chip set. When I take the modem out and reinstall it I don't get the hardware wizard stating it has found new hardware. I don't have the original disk setup that came with the modem. Where can I dowloadable drivers for this modem or does this mean that the modem is bad?

A:Hi-Val modem driver

You are going to have to add/remove hardware manually, and then hand feed it the drivers to the directory where you've downloaded them....

What was your operating system before you installed windows xp home? Did you do a clean install on an upgrade? You can also search for a driver on your modem manufacturer website.

Hello Dewflowersp, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If you can connect the modem to your computer with a ethernet LAN port instead of by USB, then you usually will not need a driver.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hey,

Are their any known troubles or concerns with drivers properly running on XP pro 32 with 4 GB of Ram? I ask this as I know some who is getting random blue screens and he is running a computer with above specs when running an audio application that required drivers. I have read elsewhere XP32 has a tough time when 4GB is installed is this factual?

A Microsoft response would be great and much appreciated,I am also open to anyone with knowledge regarding this instance.

Thanks,

Matt

Hello All Of You Tech Heads, This one is Stumping Me. I was Trying to Put in Some of the Old 16 bit Games into my computer the other day and Got this Message saying that the Virtual Device Driver Could Not Be Found, and got the same little GLITCH when I tried to Install a program that Defrags the Memory called MemTurbo. It is a Good Program Also but got the same Error Message when I was trying to install this program. So I went into the HELP Files in the Start Menu and it told me to go into the Reg Edit Program under the Run in the Start Menu. So Did This and Cruised Thru the RegEdit could not find the VDD file. So I was Wondering if there is a Proram to get to put this back in ?? Then I would be able to put the old games in! !

A:WinXP Home_VDD_Can Not Find the Virtual Device Driver

It should say which VDD is missing in the error message. If it does, google for the file, and DL it. Should come with a self-extractor.

The printer refuses to install under WinXP.
It worked under WinXP before. However, I uninstalled Windows and worked under Linux for several months before returning to WindowsXP. I was able to use the printer, although problematically, under Linux. When I installed a fresh copy of WinXP, the WinXP drivers refused to install.
As a side note, the previous installation was an upgrade of Win2k, where the printer worked fine. It also worked fine on Win98SE.
When I try to run the installtion file (really a self-extractin ZIP) 'XPC11_15.exe' after the warning screen, it just closes and does nothing. I then unzipped the contents into a seperate folder: two file named 'xcc152k1.EXE' and 'XP_VB.exe'. The second file contains nothing but a warning message, while the second one is the installation of the printer drivers.
The installer loads, and looks OK. I choose the language and agree to the license agreement. Then a box informs me that I need to upgrade my firmware (I did so before, when the printer worked under WinXP previously). Left without another option I click Upgrade. It opens a little box called ,which displays "Copying Files..." and then "Installing Files...". These messages flash by quickly. Then a warning message called 'Printers' appears telling me that "The arguments are invalid." Another message appears in a seperate window also called 'Printers' telling me "Operation could not be complet... Read more

A:Xerox DocuPrint C11 Driver Installation trouble on WinXP

OK, I've solved the problem myself.
As I mentioned above, add the printer through the Add Printer wizard. There, choose the "Choose From List" option, and find the driver listed on the bottom of the Xerox part.
Install.
Then, in the Printer Properties, go to the Advanced Tab. There, change from Spool to Print Directly to Printer, and VOILA. It works!

Hello, it's about installing WinXP on SATA (AHCI) hdd, by default standard windows xp installer can't detect AHCI, so while install you'll get a blue screen error.

I have found out that problem, and there is 2 available solutions:
1. By setting BIOS, advance, HDD, to compatible mode
2. By install windows XP that has integrated AHCI driver

If you are using solution #1, then you can install windows xp by using standard winxp installer, but if you are using solution #2, then you need to find AHCI driver for your chipset, and then integrated it to winxp installer by using software called nLite.

Nah, I want to know, where I can download AHCI driver for nvidia MCP75L chipset for winxp pro sp2.

I just found AHCI driver for win xp pro sp2, but it's intended for intel chipset, whereas mine is nvidia MCP75L.

Do you guys know where to download it?

Thanks.

I am using an Asus P5W64-WS MB, XP Pro SP3, and an older 74GB WD Raptor. I've never really messed around with doing the "F6" installation of RAID drivers when installing XP. Instead I've always just selected the default in the BIOS where the SATA drive is treated like an IDE device and I did not have to install the drivers during OS installation. I currently see under a speed utility that my Raptor is giving transfer rates of 85MB per sec. maximum, 24 MB per sec minimum, and 73 MB per second average.

My question is this - what sort of improvements might I see if I did a clean install of XP Pro and configured the drive as an SATA drive using the F6 driver installation option during install?

Also, is it worth going to a RAID 0 configuration if I am going to do the SATA thing? I would be using the ICH7R controller for that.

Finally, what does the AHCI option allow, and is that used with the IDE or F6'd SATA driver installation?

Thanks for any help.

A:IDE vs. F6 SATA driver install on WinXP Pro & Speed Improvements?

The HardDrive is working off the same speed on PATA or Sata.
The F6 is usually used for Sata Drives that require extra drivers
The Raid 0 is not the safest idea, and in actual fact normally I would say, don't do Raid anything if you're unsure.

I have 20 Compaq Deskpro computers and access to used conexant modems..........cheap!!!!!!!!....the computers are all pentium 1s w/ 48 MB RAM. Can I use these conexant modems and if so.....where can get I drivers from?.........win 98 (which is what wll be on all of them) dosn't have a driver for them. Am I going in the wrong direction?

I rebuild older computers and have developed a decent word of mouth market, but, of course the computrs I sell must be internet ready. Would I be better off just going to my local store and getting some new US Robotics? I hate paying 'new' price if I don't have to.

Hi All,

Recently I was talking to my ISP, Earthlink, about my connection speed. I know that the diistance one lives from the phone company, the lines inside the house, ect all contribuite to low speed (and yes I do live way out in the boonies, and I do not think the phone lines in this house are that great), however, I was checking to see if there was anything that I, or they, could do to help get a faster connection. ( Right now, my speed averages about 24 kbps.) The tech suggested I update my modem driver, since my modem was is about 2 years old and I've never updated it.

I've spent most of the morning searching for the proper driver for my modem, and I am finding it difficult to be sure of which one is the correct driver.

My modem is: CNXT V 9x PCI Modem

Will updating the driver for this really help anything?

If it would help to update the driver, could someone please show me the correct driver to use?

Thank you !

A:Modem Driver update?

I don't see updating the modem drivers speeding up connection, they tend to be more for conflicts with other device drivers. More than likely its a software problem with applications installed on your pc trying to access the web when you logon choking your system and slowing down your connection. Try posting in the network forum those guys might be able to tell you how improve your internet speed by closing start up programs etc.
