First up, hello everyone.

I have XP computers connected to a SBS2003R2 domain that is posting 1030 Userenv errors in the eventlog. I've not checked them all but three of them definitely are, so we can presume they all are.

Through Userenv.log, I've wiggled it down to two variants of:

USERENV(314.480) 21:50:37:892 ProcessGPO: CheckFilterAcess failed for <CN={C94DA5DA-A892-44ED-B77D-618A143ED5CC},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=[domainname],DC=local>. Filter not found

Followed by many of the following that correlate with the eventlog errors:

USERENV(318.868) 09:47:24:929 ProcessGPOs: GetGPOInfo failed.

My question is - whereto from here? OUs, GPO and the such is on the edge of my knowledge. It seems that if I can find what GPO is failing, I'm there.

A:Eventlog 1030 and userenv GetGPOInfo failed

I would suggest since you are apparently having troubles with a Small Business Server that you ask to have this post moved to the Networking forum here at TSG. You will get a better response there. You can do this by clicking the little triangle at the top right corner of the window and ask a moderator to please move this thread to that forum

Hi, I hope someone out there can shed a little light on this situation as it's doing my nut in!

We have a network with 3 Windows 2003 servers and workstations all with XP. When the users log in a script runs which maps network drives and pushes printer connections etc. Also we have several group policies set which restrict pupils and staff in certain ways. Nothing drastic though. Just 'Cant see certain Control Pannel Items etc'.

Now all was working perfectly until a couple of weeks ago 2 staff members came to me and said "I can't get on the interenet or e-mail". I had a look and when they logged in on their normal computer it seemed to log in fine but then receieved a couple of "Cannot perform this action due to restrictions on effect on this computer" messages. This message also appears when they try to click on the Internet for example. On closer inspection it has run the scripts ok because I have the shared drives and printers. But the virus scanner which is sophos in our case hasn't loaded (it comes down from the server), also there is no All Programs in the start menu, or shut down.

If I log off and check the event viewer I have event 1030 there which refers to an error with group policy.

Now the most annoying problem is it appears completly random with it's timing. Usually a shut down and restart of the computer fixes it. Moving to another computer can also fix it. It dosent always do it on the same computers, other... Read more

These event just started appearing a day or two ago, but they continue to repeat every 5 minutes:

Event 1030:
Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects. Check the event log for possible messages previously logged by the policy engine that describes the reason for this.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Event 1058:
Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO CN={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=bbpi-pdc,DC=billsblue,DC=com. The file must be present at the location <\\bbpi-pdc.billsblue.com\sysvol\bbpi-pdc.billsblue.com\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\gpt.ini>. (Windows cannot find the network path. Verify that the network path is correct and the destination computer is not busy or turned off. If Windows still cannot find the network path, contact your network administrator. ). Group Policy processing aborted.
They occur exactly every five minutes, and always in this order. I searched for the gpt.ini file it's looking for and found it.

I don't really have any group policies in place, just basic users and computers. Nothing fancy. And I'm afraid I don't quite understand AD enough to just 'experiment' until I make these error go away.

Any ideas and/or guidance would be welcome.... thanks

A:Event 1030 & 1058, repeating. Guidance?

One possibility:
As per Microsoft: "This behavior may occur if the following conditions are true: your Windows XP-based computer is a member of a domain, and the Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS) client is turned off (disabled). To resolve this issue, turn on (enable) the DFS client". See M314494 to find out how to do this. Also check M810907 for a hotfix.

Anyway i tried starting Windows media player & i got the error

wmplayer.exe - Bad Image
---------------------------
C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\USERENV.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc0000428.

So i googled it & some other people had the error to & Microsoft advised people on turning it off in Programs & Features & re-installing it, it doesn't work.....

SO the simple fact is..... Windows Media Player doesn't need the file, like it says - 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\USERENV.dll is either not designed to run on Windows'

So there it is, delete it & it will run fine, i tried, it worked
Ive been finding bugs & patching/fixing them, Post a reply if it worked or whatever happened

I am running a Vista x 64 client with a SBS2003 server. There are now real critical issues, but there are some logon and logoff anomalies.

I consistently receive events 1030 and 40961 at Logon. I will post details in subsequent entries.

Also, Logoff usually takes a very long time (like more than 15 minutes).

I've been investigating an "applications" eventlog error occurring since upgrading to XP SP2 and would appreciate anyone else with SP2 checking to see if they are experiencing the same error.

Instructions:

We have a Server 2003, logged on as administrator account or administrator privilege, Event Viewer allows Save then Clear, but not Clear and save.
From the server,

Clear All Events
Do you want to save ?Application? before clearing?
Yes
Save ?Application? As
Message ?Clearing the event log failed because of the following error:? Access is denied
From the server,
Event Viewer
Select Application
Save log file as
Save
Then Clear, No problem

Any ideas what would cause this? Worked for years Event Viewer Clear, then Save As, but now only save first, then clear

Thanks

I use XP Pro SP3 and have noticed repeated batches of the error Userenv Event error 1041 in Event Viewer. The error Properties are 'Windows cannot query DIIName registry entry for CF7639F3-ABA2-41DB-97F2-81E2C5DBFC5D and it will not be loaded. This is most likely caused by a faulty registration'. Scrolling using the arrow reveals a 2nd GUID: 7B849a69-220F-451E-B3F3-2CB811AF94AE. I have searched the Registry for both of these and drawn a blank. The existence of the error has no discernible effect on the operation of the computer but I would like to eliminate the error message if possible. The link to MS support does not help as searching it draws a blank for this error number Userenv. A general search for Userenv error 1041 in Google does produce some results but the solutions are far too complex for a non-specialist and seem to relate to Group policy on a network. I do have a laptop with Vista Home Premium networked through my modem router. Local Area Connection shows no problems in operation. Would be grateful for any advice on this matter.

At every shutdown, two error warnings were logged in the Application event log by Userenv:

error 1524 ("Windows cannot unload your classes registry file - it is still in use by other applications or services.")
error 1517 ("Windows saved user <user name> registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use. This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.")

I installed Microsoft's UPHClean to aid the unloading of the registry. This works, and it also reports the source of the problem: cpf.exe, a process of Comodo Firewall.

I now wonder: should I leave it at this, or should I go on to try and solve the actual problem (for example by doing what the 1517 warning said: "try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account")? The current setup seems a bit unnatural to me: a service is basically malfunctioning, and I employ another service full-time to keep it in check. What do the experts advise?

A few of our DNS servers are reporting Event ID 3000 periodically.

Full logging is on.

There are no failure entries prior to the event.

I can not find much on TechNet either.

I see that this is a problem for others in other forums, but I could not find a resolution on any site.

Anyone have a cause and resolution?

Details of the error entry:

Event Type: Warning

The DNS server has encountered numerous run-time events. To determine the initial cause of these run-time events, examine the DNS server event log entries that precede this event. To prevent the DNS server from filling the event log too quickly, subsequent events with Event IDs higher than 3000 will be suppressed until events are no longer being generated at a high rate.

I am totally obsessed with downloading music, but awhile ago I attemped to download an upgrade to the basic Kazaa system. Once I had fully downloaded the upgrade I went to click on Kazaa and a message popped up saying," You have uninstalled a part of Kazaa needed to run and to close and reinstall." (I believe it was called error 1030, I'm not positive though) Anyway, I uninstalled Kazaa and reinstalled several times and the same message keeps appearing.I checked to make sure I had all the needed componets to run Kazaa aswell. I can't figure out what to do. I tried other music sources but I can't find one I like as much as Kazaa. If you know what I should do please HELP!!

A:Kazaa Error 1030, any adivse?

What I would do is:

1. Use a spyware scanner to delete all the spyware that comes with the Kazaa download
2. uninstall Kazaa using the JV16 power tool
3. Do a file search for Kazaa and delete all of the files that are found.
4. Backup the registry
5. Use Jv16 power tool to clean the registry.
6. If you want to and are brave enough, do a manual search for useless Kazaa keys in the registry (be sure to have a backup if you do this)
Reinstall the latest Kazzaa with all of its Spyware. (Perhaps you might want to try Kazaa Lite)

i am having some issues with an upgrade on Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2003 Stamdard with Active Directory.

The environment consisted of one Windows NT 4.0 PDC and four Windows NT 4.0 BDCs. As per the Microsoft recommended method to upgrade this environment to Windows 2003 I performed the following:

1. Build a new Windows NT 4.0 server with SP6.0a as a BDC on the production network.
2. Promoted this newly built BDC to a PDC whilst on the production network.
3. Ensured that the old PDC had been demoted to a BDC and that all servers were happy replicating with the newly built PDC.
4. I then removed the newly built PDC from the network, upgraded it to Windows 2003 Standard with Active Directory, turned on the registry setting to make this Windows 2003 a NT 4.0 emulator, and connected it back to the production network.
5. I then checked server manager on the BDCs and confirmed that they could "see" their DC again, and the DC could see the PDCs.
6. I left the server to run overnight then the next day I returned to it and ran the command "Nltest.exe /bdc_query:<domain name> to show the connection and replication status of the BDCs.

This is where I ran into problems.

Two out of the five BDCs were quite happy showing a connection status of SUCCESS and were replicating happily between themselves and the DC according to the Event Viewers on both the 2003 DC and the two BDCs.

These two servers were correctly displaying the status code 0 0x0 NERR_SUCCES... Read more

hi!

hello, first off i have scanned with adaware pro se, spybot, and h2, also mcafee antivirus and a couple of online scanners--this is what remains

i have some pesky files burrowed into my pooter, i am pretty sure the files in the temp folder are bad....but when i search for the executable, all i can find are prefetch files....i think the prefetch files are generating the temp files...

i have used msconfig to stop some files from statring, and that has stopped an error screen that displayed this message at start up everytime:

rundll egdhtml-1030 dll error

i reactivated them in msconfig for this logfile...

also- whenever i turn on the computer, it frezzes up after booting to windows, i found that killing all the rundll32.exe files make it able to run again!!!!!!

so they must be bad, too...

here is my log, thank you very much for any help!!

In the absence of anyone who knows what they are doing, yours truely is trying to overcome a problem with seemingly random restarts on my server PC. Sometimes the server restarts at 12.00 midday but also at other times.
The problem started on 22 Sept, a few hours after the installation of an upgrade to the "Symantec Client Security" small business pack ver 3.0 (this contains 10 license of Symantec Antivisus 9.0.0.338 plus 1 copy of Semantic Service Center v 6.0). This made me very suspicious of the upgrade and I have had since had exhaustive support from them up to the point of them exhausting all the possible problems and pointing me back to Microsoft.
So far I have been in contact with Symantec and Dell (the server PC) and done everything they have advised - all to no effect. Breifly, the list of tasks performed is as follows:-
1) Remove and Reinstall all Symantec software.
2) Update virus definition files & run anti virus scan on the whole PC from safe mode (no viruses found).
3) Change the timing of the AV automatic updates from daily to weekly (Now happens on Sunday).
4) Download and run the Dell 32-bit Diagnostic utility V5061 - all tests pass OK (this includes the memory test, which I see in several other threads, by the way).
5) Install microsoft exchange server SP1 (as advised by Microsoft article 837444). This needed the hotfix 831464. Also installed SP2, which needed the removal of Exchange intelligent message filter program.
6) Downloaded a... Read more

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Ah Symantec strikes again.

Both your minidumps crash at SYMEVENT.SYS. This is the Symantec Event Library.

This is a known issue on some systems/configurations.

Contact Symantec for more info.

If you can`t fix this problem, maybe you should try a different security product.

Hello,

I sent my computer in for repairs a while back and now the wireless card won't work. It can't find any signals unless I plug in the one from my desktop. I went to computer/properties/device manager and saw that the wireless card (Intel (R) Centrino (R) Wireless-N 1030) has a yellow "!" next to it. The properties tab says, "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)".

I have tried searching for new drivers automatically but it says they are up to date. I downloaded the latest drivers directly from Intel and tried to manually update them but it said that the drivers are up to date again. This problem occurs whenever I update my computer. I did a system restore and it worked fine for about a month, but once it updated it did the same thing again. There is no restore point to go to this time, so I'm stuck.

Anyone know what I should do?

Thanks

Every 5 minutes I get this error message popping up under event viewer on a Windows 2003 Small Business Server (all updates etc):

Event ID: 1054

Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network. (An unexpected network error occurred. ). Group Policy processing aborted.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
I have done the MS Support site "recommendations", but the Server is pointing to itself for the DNS and the IP address and all that are fine. Not sure why or what is going on here. I can't seem to stop it.

Please advise and hope able to provide me a better solution to avoid my server restart itself again.

Thank You.

Without seeing the minidumps this is your error per auhma.org:

This is a rare and fairly obscure error condition. Memory management issues can be one cause, and adding additional RAM commonly will resolve this version of the problem.

Hello, we have recently purchased several HP Elitebook 1030 G1 notebooks. These come with Windows 10 out of the box, and no discs at all. HP seem to offer a Windows 7 recovery disc via drivers & downloads but this only seems to be for drivers and applications post-Windows 7 install. We still use Windows 7 (Enterprise x64) deploying via SCCM. As the laptop doesn't have a LAN port HP support suggested getting an HP USB-C to Ethernet adapter, but this doesn't seem to help with PXE boot. So moving onwards, I then attempted to do a manual install of Windows 7 x64 via USB. Initially it didn't even boot without turning off secure boot and turning on legacy boot. As the laptop has an M.2 ssd it is not even found by the setup process. I have now gone through adding sata and usb3 drivers via dism to boot+install wim's and also an MS hotfix for NVMe support (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2990941). Unfortunately after all this it is still not able to see the hard drive. Unless I am going blind I cannot see any information about this on HP Support. Has anyone done this on this model notebook or similar (ie M.2 ssd)? Thanks

You should be able to use the XP drivers and install them in compatibilty mode.

Here's a link to the XP Home/Pro 32-Bit Drivers
Brother Solutions Center: HL-1030: Downloads: Others

To run the installer in compatibility mode:

Right Click Installer > Properties > Compatibility > Select the OS you want. (In this case, XP)

Every time I boot my laptop I get error message Event ID 10 in Event Viewer. The details are:

Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor"AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

Custom dynamic link libraries are being loaded for every application. The system administrator should review the list of libraries to ensure they are related to trusted applications.

This is listed under AppInit_DLLs in the registry and the dll being loaded is nvinitx.dll, from what I can find out this has to do with the optimus function on my laptop and having it loaded is okay. I just want to get rid of the error message being logged everytime I boot.

Alright this error isn't causing me any issues I just noticed it when I was going to check the log file of my recent disk check, and it pops up a few times and from googling it some people say it can be from a virus.

I just did all my full scans and nothing showed up, what exactly is this error from and should I worry about it?

Also under general of the error it says Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. I have a laptop running windows 7 home. Recently, I could not log on and get the error message
"The User Profile Service failed the logon
User profile cannot be loaded"

In safe mode, I could log in as a default user USER, and were able to look at the event logs.
Event error 1500 was consistently listed as the culprit and that the user profile could not be found.

I have searched various sites for a solution (even this Forum) but mostly 1500 refers to a error in XP which is not the same as what I am experiencing. The Windows 7 refers to problems with logging on to Windows 7 server. Seemingly Vista also suffers this error, but I could not get the Vista solution to work on Windows 7 Home.

I will appreciate any guidance towards solving this problem

Hi,

I am trying to help my friend with is computer, and I have exhausted my own knowledge on how to resolve the issue.

He is getting a "Windows Installer Error" when he tries to launch .msi files.

What I have done:

1) Check to see if service was running. (Services.msc - Windows Installer)
2) Msconfig, shows the service has (Stopped)
3) I have tried msiexec /unregister + /regserver
4) Checked the system files with sfc - Nothing reported corrupted
5) Exported, and Deleted - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions
6) Checked for the following keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations

I didn't find them.

Can anyone help shed some light on this for me.

P.s. does anyone know how to re-install "Windows Installer 5.0"

Thanks in Advance,

Thawee

Regardless, IE9 Crashes and loops with Windows error reporting prompts until close is clicked heavily or the application is force closed. I have included the event viewer information below. Q: Userenv

Hi all,a bit of a problem,I think.During the course of using my computer,I keep hearing the sound Xp makes when there is an error.I hope I said that right.I have no spyware or virus and my puter runs really good.Boots ok and shuts down ok with no problems in between.I checked the event viewer just for giggles and under applications ther must be about 50 or so red x's.The error says Userenv event 1041.I googled it to see if I could solve this myself but no luck.I have the userenv.dll in my system folder so I know it's not missing.I downloaded the same dll from the internet so I could maybe try that but it was an earlier version.I'm puzzled because it doesn't seem to affect the computer that I know of.Would anyone have any ideas,Tony.

In trying to free up and clean up some space on my PC I was doing a defrag and the report listed the file Windows\Debug\UserMode\usernenv.log as not being able to be defragmented. I found the file and it is 4GB big! I looked online to see if I could delete the file, but I didn't find anyone saying it was ok to delete it. Can I actually delete this file? I guess it has a bunch of group policy info it in, but I can't even open the file in wordpad/word/etc to see what is in it. Can I delete this file w/o harming my PC, or am I just gonna have to live with it on my HD?

Good day to all.

I hope this is right place for this thread. I recently opened event viewer and found this error:

The description for Event ID 1003 from source ISCT Agent cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

CAgentState:oPeriodicSuspendResume ****Error in initialize NetDetect, status = 0x2
the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table

Any and all help is appreciated as I am scratching my head trying to figure this out. Thanks in advance.

A:Windows xp system error category 102 event-id 1003

Not enough information at this point to help. The error is 0xD1 and they are usually caused by faulty drivers but they also can be caused by faulty or mismatched RAM.

Please give us your hardware system specs including make and model of your motherboard, the make, type and amount of RAM you have installed, video card, etc.

Tell us what antivirus software, etc., you are running along with Operating System.

Lastly, when do these BSODs occur, i.e., randomnly, gaming, watching videos, etc.?

Server 2003 has a Shutdown Event Tracker that requires that you "best describe why you want to shutdown the computer". It is on by default, but can be turned off using Group Policy.

Wonderful!

Somewhere along the way, one (and only one) of my XP machines (SP2 + all updates) acquired that same "feature". The Group Policy trick mentioned above has no relevance in XP, so I can't stop this event tracker that way.

Among other things, it makes a remote shutdown impossible (unless I use an RPC terminal). Besides, it's a pain to have to type in a reason (usually "Windows F%#*ed up again") when all I want to do is to shutdown or reboot.

If it runs as a service, I can't find it in either "Services and Applications" or in "Sysinternals Process Explorer"

And another thing!!! I can't find the logged events in the Event Viewer for Application, Security, or System.

If I could find it, I'd drive a stake through its heart. How do I kill the beast?

To prove that I've taken my meds today, here's a screen dump:

Askme nicely and I might explain how I got a screen dump of an XP computer part way into shutdown.

Thanks in advance.

I recently posted this : http://forums.techguy.org/networking/606462-ads-monitoring.html

It was very understandable, and since then I am now logging any changes made in Active Directory by the "Domain Admins" group.

The only problem I have is that I see all the logs are logged and reside in the Admin Tools>Event Viewer>Secuirty Log.

This log contains ALOT of logs from user access to the domain controller and other network variables.

Is there ANY WAY to make the logging of the "Domain Admins" group for ADS appear in its own "area" or "log" so to speak. This way I dont have to filter through all this stuff in order just to see who and what is going on in ADS?
Thanks

Off the top of my head I do not know how. But you can use the filter in view as you already know. Might be a little clunky but it works.

I have discovered a file in my "c" drive I'm not familiar with. It is a text file with note pad. In the file the phrase "error report- impersonate user" appears often and it seems that action has been denied. I'm not really sure. Can someone elaborate? The file is "userenv" and I'm running XP SP2 with .NET framework SP1 at 433 megs. This file is in the debug folder. What is it?

A:userenv question?

Hi, Well here is some stuff I found, maybe you can get something from it, it does look legit though if that is what was bugging you. Basically, in ordinary terms, for ordinary users of XP, it would have to do with the User Shell and help with loading user profiles...as much as I can tell.
Some other things too, depends on what else you do with the computer, running a server, etc...multiple user profiles, too...

http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/dlllibrary/userenv/

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=312164

http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=1000&source=userenv

I think you can examine an error file and find out what the problem, if any might be...do you get any errors at any time? Did you upgrade from Windows 2000 Pro?

I would try to correct the error by running sfc /scannow, if that doesn't fix the problem you may have other file corruption/manifest issues; check the log located in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Another possibility would be to uninstall/reinstall KB3035583. Disabling the GWX associated tasks in Task Scheduler is a bit of a problem, see this post for the gory details.

Me? I'd just uninstall KB's 2952664 & 3035583, hide them & be done with the Win 10 upgrade nuisance.

Regularly my pc does not shut down, it gets stuck on the blue screen with "Shutting Down"
After a while I need to shut down the pc, using the power-button on the case.

I already untagged "Turn on fast start-up (recommended)"
under Control Panel->All Control Panel Items->Power Options->System Settings under 'Shut-down settings"

Regretfully that did not solve the issue.

I checked the event log between me initiated shutdown (event 1074) and rebooting.

Greetings,

Not more than 3-4 months ago I built a new system in anticipation for WAR. The system was built to be, obviously, a gaming computer as well as a system I could do a bit of graphic programming on. Up until last month it was blazing fast, I mean insanely powerful until one day when I was playing TF2.

I had just loaded up the game, got ready to spawn into a 2fort server, walked out onto the sniper deck and I felt a massive system lag spike. Next thing I know there's blood all over the wall and my char had gotten shot in the head before I even knew what was going on. So I figured, maybe it just needs a reboot...

I rebooted and everything was fine until it reached the Windows loading screen. Once there it sat for about 3 minutes and finally booted completely. However, at that point, loading anything... games, web pages, you name it, took at least twice as long as it should. On top of this issue, the system lag spikes seemed to come every 3 hours and in groups of 2s for a session of 4 groups.

What I mean by this is:
1) APATI Error Event ID: 9 \Device\Ide\IdePort5 did not respond within the timeout period.
2) Disk Warning Event ID: 51 An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation.

Hi Pyrrhic, welcome to TSF..

have you tried different SATA cables?

As you mentioned the drive may be starting to fail...it can happen to drives of any age so it would probably be an idea to download and run the manufacturer's diagnostic tools so you can perform some exhaustive checks on the integrity of the disk. That should give you a good idea if the drive is beginning to fail.

Has anyone seen this error. MS has a wonderful description, "an internal error has occurred". We rebooted this server on Friday and it worked until this morning (Monday) and is back to reporting failure to find the counters in remote Perfmon. The Performance Logs and Alerts service is set to manual and when I attempt to start it, I get the error and the event log is Event 2003 (0x7D23).

This is a production server that cannot just be rebooted regularly.

TIA for any help!

I recently upgraded to Vista Business from XP Pro (I am downgrading back to xp pro), and at first had no problems. But now, when I try and post an event to outlook calendar it stops responding and restarts without an entry. I have tried re-installing, detect and repair and looking for answers everywhere. I just cannot get it to work. It is outlook 2003. The email works fine and so does the contacts.

I am guessing this is a personal PC. Did you use scan.pst to scan the pst file for errors and fix them?

Hi,

For one user in our company I am unable to delete an appointment in his calendar in outlook 2003 with the name (SICK: )

I have checked all active appointments and none are recurrent.

If I delete the appointment it is being generated automatically a few seconds later. Previously it was synchronizing with a crm software, but this has been disabled.

His outlook profile is on a citrix server. I really hope somebody can help. I have had other people to look into this, and they have never seen this before.

Appreciate all the help I can get.

Scorgi

I keep getting a DCOM error which re-boots my Windows XP SP3 PC. I didn't appear to have a proble prior to upgrading to SP3.

I've looked on the Event Viewer (Systems) and get this message:

"DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service WSearch with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{7D096C5F-AC08-4F1F-BEB7-5C22C517CE39}

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp."

The PC was idle at the time.

Also getting a "userenv" error message on Applications:

"Windows saved user MARTINPC\Owner registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account."

Can anyone suggest how I find out what is causing the problems and how to fix them, please?

I've recently installed Windows 7 on a new pc and am having 2 distinct issues.

The first is that I have found that I am unable to make many programs start with Windows. Avast will, as will AI Roboform and Open Office but other simply refuse to do so. My firewall (Look n Stop) for example has the option "Start with Windows". Checking the box has no effect, the program fails to start with Windows. This issue is repeated with a number of other programs e.g. Speedfan, Peerblock

In addition adding the programs to the Startup folder has variable success. The firewall for example does load on startup when added to the startup folder but neither Speedfan or Peerblock do.

The second problem is that I am registering the error "The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: EIO_XP" in the Administrative Events section of Event Viewer.

I've searched everywhere and have been unable to find a copy of this driver. It appears to be associated with the ASUS Smartdoctor utility which I do not have. I did download and install it to see if that corrected the problem but it did not and I have since uninstalled it.

I am running Win 7 (64bit).

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Hi There

First of all I found following thread about event handler registration:
"How to get a Word 2003 macro to fire just before printing"

This solution works almost perfect for me but I need it in the normal.dot. When I open the normal.dot (not new documtent) the registration works. But when I create a new document based on the normal.dot template I get a new document with all macros and stuff in it. Just the part of "ThisDocument" is missing and this is the place where I do my event handler registration.

Is there a way to put some code based on a normal.dot into "ThisDocument" of my new created document?

Thanks

Andy

I am running Windows7, 64-bit operating system. In trying to run Windows Office Access 2003 on this operating system and an Access data base (which runs fine in Windows XP), I get the following error message when I try to execute an Even Procedure. This problem only occurs when running on the Windows7 platform with 64-bit, and not on Windows XP with a 32-bit system:

"File not found"

The following in Blue is the event procedure I am trying to run which upon clicking, is suppose to grab the contents of the "Bates" record (which is the name of a TIF image) and feed the TIF image name to an external image viewer: "i_view32.exe", so that the viewer then displays the image.

Private Sub Command13_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Command13_Click

Dim stAppName As String
Dim txthold As String

txthold = "C:\Docs\" & Bates & ".tif"

stAppName = "C:\Program Files(x86)\IrfanView\i_view32.exe" & txthold

Call Shell(stAppName, 1)

Exit_Command13_Click:
Exit Sub

Err_Command13_Click:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_Command13_Click

End Sub

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi you tech guys! Thanks for offering your services!

I have a mess now on my hands after I incorrectly removed the wrong program that reminded me of spyware in a panic a couple months ago. I couldn't remember what the name of the program was, I just searched for everything related to what I could remember, one-click answers, and deleted it from my computer everywhere without using the proper add/remove program as Blue Zee was so kind to point out on another thread. But 1-click was the wrong program; I think the one that scared me was starware. Anyway, when I removed 1-click, I removed part of my mecanism to start up and/or download new things, and I can't anymore. Not even Firefox can download some of their stuff. Each time I start my computer I get the noise and a message saying userenv.dll not found. But now, I am getting more and more errors: in the script, shell32.dll, oe0187bff775B4, and the computer freezes and turned off once.

My computer is a Compaq FP745A and uses Millenium 2000 unfortunately.

Blue Zee says that now it's a question for the security experts.

I want to download the CCleaner, but don't know if I can yet. What do you think?

Please help me save my computer!

Grateful,
Inbred

Just curious if anyone knows of any sites that may have some detailed listings or information on deciphering information in the userenv.log file?
Such as
MyGetUserName: GetUserNameEx failed with 1753
MyGetUserName: Retrying call to GetUserNameEx in 1/2 second.
{repeat}
GetUserGuid: Failed to get user guid with 1753

I've found a few references online to this problem but the suggested resolutions haven't worked. ei. removing and readding to the 2000 domain, etc.
The prob is that it takes 15 minutes to login to the domain where everything then works fine. This is 2000 pro - none of the NT boxes at this location have any probs. The odd thing is that this computer didn't used to have this problem until it was moved.

Windows Events Viewer shows:

I tried to disable the Intel Rapid Start technology from BIOS but it seems that the problem is not solved.

Any ideas?. I guess that an Intel Rapid Start technology Driver is coming.
